They didn't have to go hard on this scene but they did and I am so grateful. It was beautiful, haunting, and sorrowful.
Tumblr media
The lighting is ethereal making it feel like the entire train ride is of an entirely different world - like some sort of limbo between life and death. The art is just so beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The above drawings look straight out of a sad scene of a high quality movie. I don't know if it can be seen but even the light particles are there animated! WTF?
Tumblr media
One of my favorites in this episode. The light almost looked like a tear drop running down Mechamaru's face.
The voice is top tier here too especially with Miwa.
Tumblr media
And then this iconic most awaited scene

This fucking hurt.

Megumi Fushiguro as your boyfriend (SFW and NSFW headcanons)
Warnings: (for the SFW section) None honestly it's just soft fluffy stuff, it's mostly Gender Neutral, but implied fem bodied reader for one of the SFW headcanons (on periods =")), NSFW as stated in the title but it will be separated by a pic <3
A/n: AHHHHHH Happy Birthday Megumi my precious baby!!! I love him so so so much I don't even know what to say. He's so cool and I love all his shikigami sm I love animals I love Megumi I-
Tumblr media
(Images do not belong to me. All credit goes to Gege Akutami, MAPPA, and everyone involved in the production of Jujutsu Kaisen)
SFW
Megumi… he's such a sweet boyfriend! He always looks out for you and makes sure that you're good as ever, both physically and mentally.
Megumi really loves baking and cooking simple dishes in his free time. He finds it really therapeutic and he does it whenever he has the time. He'll bake the cutest cookies, in the shape of hearts or bunnies, and give them to you after he's done decorating them <3
The two of you definitely have matching demon dogs slippers! You bought two pairs of slippers, one white and one black, and then gave one of each colour to Megumi. The two of you spent the whole day decorating the slippers to look just like his demon dogs and he even summoned them for reference on how some of their features looked!
You also bought him a bunny onesie as a joke for his birthday once… and he actually loved how comfortable it was! And of course he got all flustered when you started calling him "cute" and "adorable", but he secretly loves it when you say such things to him. He asked you to buy another one for yourself as well. So now, the two of you can match with your onesies and slippers 🥺❤️
Whenever you go out with Megumi, he always stands on the side of the pavement that's nearer to the road! He also holds your hand almost all the time, to show affection and to also pull you away in case of anything. His priority is always making sure that you're safe and sound 🥺
He loves it when you stay over in his dorm room for the night. Over the course of your relationship, it's become such a normal thing that Megumi's room is basically yours, and vice versa. His bed has plenty of your plush toys and his closet is half filled with your clothes, though he doesn't mind if you take his clothes to wear (he loves it but will never live it down). Spending the evening together before going to bed and cuddling is the highlight of his day and he loves being able to feel the warmth of your body next to his as he slowly falls asleep every night.
He showers with you quite often too. It's nothing sexual at all, just him helping to shampoo your hair and wash your back while you soap other parts of your body. He loves shaping your hair into random things since it always makes you giggle. He just loves to hear you laughing 🥺❤️ If you do the same to him, he'll smile before poking your nose gently in a affectionate manner.
Please please please play with his hair!!! He loves it!!! He'll relax into your touch as he lies on your lap, letting you take your hands through his silky hair, instantly feeling the stress from the day that just passed slowly dissipating. He might even fall asleep if he's tired enough, and of course, who are you to deny him a well deserved rest?
He acts indifferent, even annoyed at times, when you call him different nicknames. But deep down, he is absolutely in love with all the nicknames you give him. From "gumi" to "my little sea urchin", and even some of the silly ones like "sugar bunny", he absolutely loves hearing you say them and he just feels so loved when you use those nicknames. It makes him feel so special and important to you <3
Piggybacks with him! Whenever you're tired after training, or just not feeling super great, he'll piggyback you back to his dorm and help take care of you from there! Something about the intimacy of having you leaning on him, and knowing that he's the one supporting and carrying you that makes him feel warm on the inside, like it was always something he was yearning for and finally got.
He prefers reading non-fiction books but if you ever recommend a book to him, no matter what genre or how long it is, he always makes sure to read it so that he can share his thoughts with you. It's his way of bonding with you, talking about a book you've both read and sharing your opinions with each other.
When you're on your period, he'll take extra good care of you. From making you your favourite drinks, to reading a book to help you fall asleep more quickly, Megumi does anything he can to make you feel better and relax. If you ever have cramps, he'll be summoning his shikigami to play with you in an attempt to distract you from the pain.
He's a very prepared boyfriend, so you never have to worry about forgetting things or emergency situations. It's raining suddenly? Don't worry, he has an umbrella to share with you. It got cold despite it being hot just a while ago? He's got a jacket for you. You forgot to take your water bottle and you're thirsty? He brought his, so you can share with him!
Overall, he's super sweet and kind about everything, and he's always looking out for you! Even if he isn't the best at expressing himself and his emotions, he makes sure that you know just how much he loves you ❤️
Tumblr media
NSFW (Gender Neutral reader) (Megumi is aged up here!!!)
Warnings: Praise kink (both giving and receiving), oral (giving and receiving), overstimulation, switch!megumi, riding him, orgasm control, edging, pet names (baby, good boy, darling)
Honestly, Megumi is quite vanilla when it comes to sex. He doesn't want to cross any boundaries and make you feel uncomfortable, so he'll be super gentle and careful with you when you first start out, unless you tell him otherwise.
He hardly initiates anything because he's worried that you aren't in the mood for it. He starts to kiss you and give you hickeys all over your neck to kinda build the atmosphere and it just… carries on from there. Before he knows it, you're straddling him and grinding on his growing bulge in his pants. And that's when he'll ask you if it's ok to continue, because consent is everything to him and he doesn't want to do something you don't want! 🥺
His favourite position is definitely missionary. He loves that he can see your expression, not just to see all your different expressions while he pleasures you, but also to make sure that you're not in any pain whatsoever. He loves that he's able to kiss your face and lips whenever he wants too!
He definitely has a praise kink. He loves telling you just how good you make him feel, just how well you're taking him, taking all of him in you, being his good little precious baby and making him feel so damn good. And if you tell him how good he feels inside of you, he will melt internally and start kissing you all over your face. He adores it when you tell him how you're just full of him, being so ruined all just for him and just how good he's making you feel <3
He doesn't mind if you offer to give him a handjob or blowjob, but he much rather go down on you and make you cum at least thrice from just his mouth alone. You'll be crying and begging for him to stop because it's just too much but he won't unless you use your safeword. He knows that you enjoy it, and he enjoys it just as much, so he won't be stopping anytime soon 😉
Loves it when you ride him! Maybe he's had a stressful day and just wants to be taken care of, or maybe he just wants you to be in control, but no matter what, when Megumi is more vulnerable and desperate than usual, he wants nothing more than for you to ride him and make him cum over and over again. It's a bonus if he's came once, twice, maybe even thrice and just as he's reaching one of his last orgasms for the night, you tell him that he can't cum yet, because good boys only cum when they're told.
And if you tell him that he gets to control your orgasm, be prepared. He'll edge for goodness knows how long, and just as you're on the verge of cumming, the kind of sensation that you can cum with just one more thrust from him, he'll pull out and kiss your forehead, telling you that you're his "pretty baby", his "wonderful darling", telling you to wait just a little longer for your high.
Aftercare with him is super important! He'll carry you to the bathroom if you're too tired or sore and run you a bath with some bath salts while he changes the bedsheets. Then he joins you in the bath and lets you lean on him and relax fully while he tells you how good you were for him, kissing the top of your head over and over again.
Megumi is a super gentle boyfriend, even in bed, and he'll never cross any of your boundaries. He loves you so so much and wants you to feel that love when you two are having sex <3
Tumblr media
AHHHHHH this one is longer than the other two I made… oh well! I love Megumi so so much and he's so precious!!! I had lots of fun writing this and would've written more but it's really long already so… Anyways I hope you enjoyed reading and Happy Birthday once again to my dearest Megumi!

My theory on how the next arc on BUCCHIGIRI?! would go down
Ok so since it was announced that next week’s episode would be postponed on the 2nd March (thankfully it seems like MAPPA is giving the animators and writers a break), I’m going to brainstorm on how it would go:
- Arajin slowly but surely is developing back into his old self but with much more confidence and vigour.
- Mitsukuni returning and there would be a reunion between the Asamine brothers.
- We have a limelight episode on the lesser known characters such as Jabashiri and Hagure.
- Zabu and Komao will get more focus in the next arc and probably have backstories.
- Mahoro, out of nowhere, asked Marito to train her. Marito would be hesitant at first because of the danger his sister would face but after some convincing from Outa, Marito would take up the offer but warns his sister that he won’t go easy on her.
- (Continued from above) Of course while this could be a front where Mahoro wants to be closer to her brother, she actually wants to be on his level and be just as strong as him (which would of course means that she would have a character arc)
- Arajin and Matakara rebuilding their friendship and having some ship subtext lol.
- New antagonist would be a corrupt political figure.
- Akutaro somehow returns and is now serving under the new antagonist to exact his revenge on Minato Kai, Siguma Squad and Arajin for foiling his plans.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 5: Hidden Inventory 5
Tumblr media
This ending scene for the episode captures arguably my biggest frustration ever. They nailed the character designs here. They got them just right, making subtle adjustments to the ones from S1 to bring them closer to the manga style. They look great, even in the new art style. So then why, pray tell, does Mappa struggle so greatly with the designs and facial expressions of this episode to the point that it can entirely misconstrue characters? I'm not really sure, but thankfully I'll have a two week break to mentally prepare for Shibuya's adaptation after what's gone on here.
Unsurprisingly, I have a lot of gripes with this episode. I say unsurprisingly because Gosso storyboarded for it, but the part that does get me is that the episode director is Jun (sometimes seen written as Atsushi?) Nakagawa. They've done some really solid episodes for Ousama Ranking (which is where they would have come into contact with Gosso), alongside stuff like Akiba Maid War. Regardless, the point is that Gosso's style as the lead director and storyboarder overrides the sensibilities of Nakagawa's direction and produces something decidedly different.
I think the easiest example is the use of space in the episode. Sometimes it's great, other times.... you're left wondering what's up.
Like this sequence, it's a bit of a two-in-one. The first being that with the space it doesn't really look that great, because well, it's just sorta an empty scene devoid of any details or importance with a distant Gojo as the focal point as we look from Geto's perspective.
It's one of those things that's on the tails of discovering greatness, sadly. Looking from Geto's perspective, and seeing Gojo so far away. It's a great idea, except for the fact that it's not balanced. Take a look at the manga panel it's meant to compare to. It switches out Geto's downward gaze for distance, which works well, but does nothing to address Gojo's proximity and levity.
The whole point is how distant Geto feels to Gojo, but that Gojo has none of that to him. What we're shown is a one-sided affair in the anime, that really had potential to go and one-up the manga but stopped halfway through and called it done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, moving on to a similar story in the so-close-yet-so-far territory: Geto's monologue. I still despise them for shifting such important dialogue to episode 1, especially considering they feel comfortable re-using it here. What I hate even more than that though is the fact that they discard the most important pieces visually.
Tumblr media
I don't mind the idea of him being on a train and through his monologue the crowd around him growing to show his feeling of suffocation, but it's just so divorced from the action of him ingesting the curses of humanity, the evil born from the masses. I especially despise it because they entirely erase the disgust painted on Geto's face in the manga.
Tumblr media
I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a total erasure of Geto's most pivotal moment as a character, but it does try to weaken it considerably in how it approaches it.
Now, just to touch on something good for a second. The idea behind how Geto's mind wanders in the shower is well done. No two ways about it. The idea borrows from the manga and extrapolates it impressively well. The idea of the water from the shower turning into applause is well executed and fits the scene just right.
But that's about where my praise for the scene ends, because good old Mappa steps up to the plate. I'm sure plenty of other people have caught it, and I'm sure I've said it at least once or twice, but Mappa is reaching a convergence point with their art and coloring, the origin/core of it being Chainsaw Man. It's pretty incredible to have scenes adapted from such a stylistically unique manga end up looking laughably alike a totally different anime.
Especially when it's so disparate to the manga. It just plain hurts to see them entirely unable to capture Geto's character for whatever reason. It's not even about the hair at this point, rather it's just the eyes. The way it's a downcast expression rather than a gaze that looks out into nothing. The difference in thought and feel that it provides is just something else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really though, this episode completely forgoes Geto's internal struggle and replaces it with aimless depression. Rather than his struggle with right and wrong, what should and shouldn't be, it's just "Geto's sad". It's such a weird change that I can't begin to understand. He doesn't express depression or sorrow in the manga. It's frustration, confusion, hatred. Negative emotions that he ascribes to both normal humans and the Jujutsu world. It's the entire basis for his hate, not the words that Yuki Tsukumo gave him. Those are simply the catalyst for his choices, but they are ultimately his and his alone.
Speaking of Yuki, what the hell happened Mappa? Apparently new characters/designs are just on the chopping block for this season? Sure, you can easily ignore the proportion differences here and there, but the hair? Just a totally different style, for zero reason. Also? Weird decision with the closing where it is now skintight and form fitted rather than the more accurate (and far more normal/less sexual) style Yuki sports in the manga.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also on the topic of Yuki/Geto, they erased the involvement of this panel for, you guessed it, the use of space. I don't know if I have to even say it, but I will: it's a continuation of the removal of Geto's character and the shallow reconstruction that takes place. Geto's still on edge, he's still his wary and aloof self that carries a sharp gaze. But that's of course nowhere to be found in the anime.
Tumblr media
And then there's whatever this is. Geto looks desperate, he looks like he's fishing for justification, for praise and kindness. Manga Geto on the other hand? He's engaging in some classic self-deprecation. He's finding ways to hurt and discredit himself as he's stuck in a swirl of emotions and thoughts. Also, anime geto's hair just sorta sucks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's almost funny how painfully similar JJK and CSM's adaptations come in terms of line art, colors and shading, and just overall design. I think the environment art is about the only thing in this image that would give people the inkling that it's not CSM (if they hadn't seen JJK before).
Tumblr media
Anyways, another good thing! Wow, so many today (I say, in jest). The use of superimposition for exposition. Overall, I'd probably say unironically that the exposition of the story is the best handled aspect in all of these 5 episodes. I'm not kidding. And it's because it has effectively free reign. There's no rules to how you'd explain something, so long as it fits. Though I'd say this episode in particular has the most creative uses of it.
Tumblr media
Back to basics though. Poor Geto. I love his character so much. I love his story arc through Hidden Inventory so much. And it's just sort of toyed with. They ignore every piece of visual importance for his character and instead impose their own weird interpretations and executions upon it. Geto's supposed to be shocked here, he's supposed to be afraid of someone voicing the sentiments that he's had. He's afraid of that side of himself, that a piece of what Gojo left in the Star Plasma Church may appear in him. He saw it, and as much as he understands that side, he doesn't want it at this junction.
The easiest way to explain it might be how someone acts in frustration. "Oh I could just hit this person!", says Person A. Person B responds with, "Then do it. You're justified". It obviously creates a rift in logic where the frustration and rage that is on display is being used as a vent rather than as a tool. And that's what's happening with Geto right now. He's venting, he's expressing his hatred in a non-committal way that has hardly even bubbled up to the surface. But then Yuki Tsukumo arrives and tells him that she's seriously considered killing all non-sorcerers because it's easier.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hell, the whole idea of Geto's shock at Yuki's statement is collected in his uncertainty about how he views non-sorcerers. It's something he has no side in currently. It's something that he doesn't understand fully. Yuki has not flipped a switch, she has done nothing to Geto at this point aside from forcing him to explore the darker parts of his heart.
Anyways, the conversation comes and goes and this pointlessly goofy bit of Yuki leaving on her motorcycle appears. Seriously, what's the point in slowly rolling out of frame not once, but twice?
Tumblr media
I really struggle at times to understand what it is this staff team sees as significant vs insignificant in terms of adaptation and importance. Because really, they replaced Geto's reaction to such an important turning piece in his character with Yuki just sorta gliding by in frame. I'm not even kidding. I'm not really gonna complain about not seeing the dejection in his face in the following scene, but I'll just say that Gosso's vision and approach alongside Nakagawa's influence here really stifles a lot of the core sentiment in regards to characterization for people like Geto. A sense of space and visual consistency is proving more important than presenting the best version of a character.
Also, Yuki's sorta of grinning in the anime? While telling Geto, and fully knowing, that what he and Gojo did was for nothing. That Riko died for nothing. And in the anime they paint her with a more cheery demeanor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly, I'm already getting tired of pointing out all the easily solvable issues with this episode, but we still haven't reached the highest point, so I'm just going to skip there and call it a day.
Gojo and Geto. The untouchable one, and the one forced to take on the sins of humanity. Opposites that once represented a whole.
And they just sort of ruined it. There's a chance that people haven't caught the significance of what Gege did here, so let me explain. They're supposed to start off head to head because they're challenging one another. They're testing the waters to see where one stands in comparison to the other. That's the whole point, having Geto not even face Gojo is just a failure in that regard. What I hate even more is that they still understood the assignment. They understand that the roles in this sequence are reversed, so rather like the previous episode that had Gojo on the right and Geto on the left, this time their sides are reversed.
They get it, they can understand these pieces, but continue to choose to misrepresent what it is that's going on here. Gojo didn't give up on Geto in the previous episode, and it's not until the end of the argument in this episode that Geto gives up on Gojo. It's such a simple thing to grasp but they choose to deny that aspect of the characters for a reason that I simply can't understand.
And that's not even talking about the brutal expressions that they give Geto (and Gojo) here. I should have known what to expect with how the prior episode was handled, but I foolishly held onto hope.
Anyways, here's an angry/shocked Gojo from the anime, I guess. Yeah, I don't know either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't even know if I want to continue this into Shibuya, really. It's not that it's hard or whatever else, it's just draining. It's draining to point out a mountain of flaws that are self-inflicted, with zero reason or purpose. I struggle to call a lot of this JJK when I compare it to the manga, season 1, or the movie. There's just so much that it deviates from. The art style, the character designs, the animation choices (bar a few incredible efforts), and even things like the soundtrack. I mean, they put one of the more upbeat and JJK-sounding tracks over Satosugu's breakup. I just lack the energy to continue to show how the anime fails to live up to a meaningful amount of the manga. Thankfully we've got a two week break coming up, so I might find the means or reason to recharge to come back for Shibuya.

9 Anime to Watch if You Want to Feel Like This 👇🏾
Tumblr media
At the heart of everything, anime (and manga) is an expressive art form worthy of being appreciated. If you're looking to break your art block or perhaps you just want something scintillating to look at, these short series/movies are worth a view.
Tumblr media
Promare (movie) - Studio: Trigger and XFLAG
Trippy dippy effects and uncommonly contrasting color palettes (triads and squares), this action movie is dazzling and the character design, for some reason, reminds me of something retro that I’m having trouble putting my finger on. The movie logo for the film is a nod to Akira for sure. The film focuses on the hunt for flame wielding mutants who are believed to be a danger to themselves and others. Kind of like Fire Force but with mechas.
Sub/Dub | HBO Max
Tumblr media
The God of High School (series) - Manwha by Yongje Park, Studio: Mappa
This was actually one of the first anime I watched upon getting back into anime and was the first indication of how far animation and design had come since my last nerd phase ended in like 2005/2006. The more I caught up, the more I realized a lot of my favorite projects were animated by Mappa which is no surprise. I chose to include TGHS for its brevity (to meet the bite size requirement for these recs) but also I adored the character design (which was a departure from shows I’d watched previously) and the storyline focuses on the action you can only get during training arcs or tournament arcs in your favorite shonen shows. This was a fun watch that accomplished that and forged a friendship you root for in an abridged format.
Sub/Dub | HBO Max
Tumblr media
Devilman Crybaby (series) - Manga: Gou Nagai, Studio: Science SARU
So many simps for Devilman Crybaby so I had to see for myself. The series is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea unless you like your tea topped with titillating carnage, fornication and light body horror. The story is dark and debaucherous as main character Fudo evolves into Devilman having merged with a demon. The whole series is a sad and lonely trip that oscillates between the banal depiction and color of “everyday life” and the saturated and starkly contrasted psychedelic scenes of the underbelly of a demonized/sinful subculture. The series explores the beauty and hideousness of human nature and our tendency to cannibalize those that stand against mob prejudice and mentality.
Sub/Dub | Netflix
Tumblr media
Bubble (movie) - Manga: Erubo Hijihara, Studio: Wit Studio
On this list, you’ll probably find more than a few recommendations that have a water or space element simply because of how enchanting I find them to be. Bubble is a modern retelling of The Little Mermaid’s traditional story and it has gorgeous animation that translates in its action scenes as well as in the more delicate details.
Sub/Dub | Netflix
Tumblr media
FLCL (series) - Studios: Gainax, Production IG, Signal.MD, REVOROOT, NUT
Based on that lineup of studios, you can probably imagine the chaos that is FLCL and still not come close. Artistically, it’s interesting? But this show and each of its iterations really shines for its innovative and unexpected concept that I’m not sure is ever truly clear. It’s just weird and expressive in a way that makes sense when you’re coming into yourself. How it can be raw and awkward and difficult to confront. I won’t say that the show is stylistically avant-garde but it manages to animate and bring into fruition that discomfort for the viewer and I think that’s the goal.
Sub/Dub | Hulu
Tumblr media
Nanbaka (series) - Manga: Shou Futamata, Studio: Satelight
Over saturated is an UNDERSTATEMENT. The flamboyant and garish character designs paired with scintillating visuals despite taking place in a prison adds to the humor in this series about a group of prisoners’ attempts to escape an inescapable prison. It’s made even funnier because, usually in shows with superpowers or supernatural elements, they’re generally explained somehow through exposition. Nope, not here just powerz✨ it has an ever present silly and fun veneer masking an underlying harshness that surfaces every so often. All in all, the series has the potential to be a Haha that Ends in Tears (*ahem* Assassination Classroom).
Sub/Dub | Crunchyroll
Tumblr media
Ponyo (movie) - Studio: Studio Ghibli
I’m surprised this is only the second water focused show so far but no list about beautiful anime would be complete without at least one Studio Ghibli feature. Ponyo is another adaptation of the Little Mermaid that allows for dizzying imagery of marine life (as above) that also features a signature Ghibli food scene (uh, yea, slide me a bowl of that ham ramen, Sosuke). Something about the dulcet color palettes of Studio Ghibli films always feels like home on a rainy day with a comforting bowl of soup.
Sub/Dub | HBO Max
Tumblr media
Weathering With You (movie) - Studio: CoMix Wave Films
Speaking of beautiful food, CoMix is another studio that just gets it right ✨ The way they capture rain, light, fireworks, skylines… just dumbfounding. This piece, in particular, is a perfect deluge into magical realism especially in moments of Hina’s transcendence. The film follows a runaway who strides to start a life in Tokyo and meets his very own Sunshine Girl. “Your Name” is also worth checking out and hails from the same studio but isn’t available without buying or renting (and I try to keep recs relatively convenient and inexpensive).
Sub/Dub | HBO Max
Tumblr media
Blue Period (series) - Manga: Tsubasa Yamaguchi, Studio: Seven Arcs
OKAY. Maybe I’m cheating with this one. An art appreciation recommendation about art? Is this subversive or the opposite therein? Don’t care. The premise of this show and what lends to its beauty is that it’s about art. Follow aimless Yaguchi as he falls down the rabbit hole of oil painting in his second year of high school then works his ass off to close the gap between himself and other college hopefuls trying to get into a competitive public art college. The way the animation takes care to provide texture for each medium that’s experimented with. TBH, the show made me nostalgic for when I was in traditional art classes at college. This show had me shopping for drawing benches with back support at my big age. So if you’re experiencing a block, fall in love with art again by checking this show out.
Sub/Dub | Netflix

Hi!
I just dropped by to say that you are one amazing author. I found your fic "little lamb to slaughter" and i absolutely love the way you wrote goyuu and their character and interactions. the intensity left me breatheless. I'm so happy to have you joined our fandom and to write for goyuu. they are actually my favorite otp, so to have you write fics about them and give the fandom such a brilliant masterpiece is like winning the lottery. I'm looking forward to more goyuu fics from you, of course, at your own pace!
I just have one question, I hope you don't mind. why do you like goyuu? and what made you ship them?
Tumblr media
Actual footage of me reading this ask 🥺
Thank you so much, anon!! This is incredibly sweet, and I don't even know what to say. I got into goyuu thinking it's a fairly small fandom/ship (by my standards—I've spent several years onboard juggernaut ships like victuuri and stucky), not expecting much interaction, but you guys have been so damn amazing from the start. I'm delighted to be here, and honestly, I'll be here for quite a while at the rate Gojou and Yuuji have me writing fics for them.
I don't mind at all! I'll put my answer under a cut because I am incapable of being concise, and I sure have many, many thoughts about this ship.
There's not really any rhyme or reason to the kind of characters or ships I like, only that I need to (a) love both characters a lot individually and (b) love their interactions in canon enough to want more of it—doubly so if I'm to write for it.
And honestly, both Gojou and Yuuji ticked off those boxes pretty early on. Yuuji's hands-down one of my favorite characters of all time. I liked him a lot in the anime itself, and by the time I caught up to the manga (it was around Chapter 200 at the time), I adored him beyond reason. Gojou was a wild ball of delight from the very first scene, and the more I saw of him, the more I liked him. I won't get into the whys of either now since that's not really the question, but suffice to say that both of them make me want to dig into their psyches teeth-first.
The shipping kind of evolved naturally. I blame MAPPA for the initial visual appeal—Gojou getting up in Yuuji's face and generally being a shameless thot definitely made me perk up. The whole basement training arc added fuel to the fire with the sheer potential of it all. But what made it go from cursory appreciation to full-blown obsession is that there's a lot of genuine affection, respect, and ease between the two of them despite the extremely brief time they know each other.
From Yuuji's end, there's adoration without awe and respect without fear. At first, it might be because he doesn't have a clue what Gojou's capable of, but then he sees Gojou's domain and watches him rip the head off a curse and step on it—and still nothing. Acknowledgement, yes, but he still treats Gojou as human first and foremost. When he dies the first time, he mentions Gojou in the list of people he doesn't have to worry about anymore with 100% sincerity—and who the hell worries about Gojou? Why would they? But it's consistently something Yuuji displays, even at Shibuya. Well before shit goes up in flames, he thinks Gojou should have support, and after he's sealed, it's clear Yuuji's concern is all for Gojou the person, not Gojou the strongest sorcerer. One of my favorite scenes from the Shibuya arc (which is saying something because I'm rabid about that entire arc) is Yuuji, bloody and utterly wrecked from Kenjaku's attack, snarling for them to give Gojou back. The fear, the worry, even the phrasing—kills me every damn time. It's there in the recent chapters too: Yuuji's unflinching willingness to die to free Gojou, his gratitude Gojou and Megumi gave him a role to play, his complete faith that everything will be fine once Gojou's free. Plus him not even batting an eye at Gojou's pre-battle aura in Chapter 220. There's just a lot of genuine trust and comfort there.
From Gojou's end, there's that instant liking to Yuuji. The anime legitimately makes it seem like he sees Yuuji shirtless one(1) time and decides to tap that, but even putting that aside, especially after the scene in the crematorium, it's pretty clear he just likes who Yuuji is as a person. There's an impressive number of scenes where he's just looking at Yuuji, and I am forever weak for how he takes off Infinity for Yuuji from, literally, Day 2. And apparently makes it enough of a habit that Yuuji takes it for granted and is comfortable asking him to lower it—which Gojou does, changing the whole mood of that scene in 220 for the better. I would kill to see more of their interactions in the post-unsealing times honestly. The reciprocal faith and respect also compel me. In the couple of weeks between Gojou meeting Yuuji and Yuuji dying due to Sukuna, Gojou gets attached enough to give us one of his few genuine displays of uncontrolled rage—as opposed to the usual deranged grin or coldness we see when he's violent—and also comes to believe Yuuji could've one day matched his power. Coming from him, that sure is something. Then there's how Sukuna, of all people, imply that Gojou never intended to let Yuuji be executed—which I do think tracks with Gojou's attitude toward Yuuji and the whole vessel business from nearly the start. There's just a lot of consistent care and faith there.
I can keep going, but you get the gist.
On top of all that, it's been a hot minute since I've sunk my teeth into a pairing with all sorts of power imbalances: adult/minor and teacher/student, plus the whole walking death sentence/executioner angle (Yuuji's willingness to die, Gojou not planning to let him but never telling him, etc.). It's fucked up, and as my Ao3 in general shows, I have a deep and abiding love for that kind of thing.
Also, I think Yuuji deserves to bend his pretty teacher over and rail him into infinity. As a treat. Since not much of that content exists, I will make it exist.

Is it just me or do the guys from ch39 look like they Were overworked like mappa animators
They went through like 10 days of intense training before second selection started so I'm pretty sure they were very exhausted

I think I realized what was so off to me about the Makima train scene in the anime, I'm sure I'm not the only person who noticed this however so if I sound like a broke record pls ignore me lol
Tumblr media
It wasn't until after looking at this panel that I realized how big she looks. Like when comparing Makima's height to the man on the right, she almost looks taller than him. Her coat makes her shoulders and chest appear much broader, too, and the expression on her face reminds me of the expression my cats would make after they dropped a dead animal at my feet.
She doesn't even look mad. She looks like she wants to eat this guy. Very unnerving, to say the least! I know I'm not alone when I say this is one of my favorite panels of Makima because it really captures her aura.
Tumblr media
Now to the anime (apologies for the low quality image)! Here we can see a difference in height between Makima and the man to the right, who we can't even see the top of his head because it's out of the shot while Makima is in full view from the torso up. We can also see that the coat doesn't really make her look any wider, and it looks like it's a better fit for her. As for her expression, it reminds me of the look a teacher would make if they were going to scold a student.
That being said, I think it was still a very good scene, and I still really enjoyed this episode a lot. I would say I enjoyed the temple scene in the anime more than I did when I read it.
Tumblr media
Here I thought she was using different hand gestures like Aki to summon the fox devil, but in the anime, she was straight up smushing her hands together like she was crushing her victims. (Don't even get me started on how much I loved the animation for that gahh).
Overall, I would say mappa is doing a very good job with this adaptation, and even when they don't exactly "capture" the vibes from the manga, they make up for it with the music, lighting, voice acting, etc.
Again, this is just my own opinions and observations, so if you disagree, I respect that! I'd love to hear what other people thought of this scene (especially anime only fans) so uuhh thank you for reading my rambles if you got this far!

Yuri!!! On Ice
Tumblr media
I low-key love figure skating. Wait, you might say, your last Shelf Life post was essentially nu-metal nostalgia, how does that track? When I saw Yuri!!! On Ice get a favorable comment from Johnny Weir on the back of the box?? Johnny Weir is a badass. Sold.
I'm not really sure what I expected from this show, but I didn't really expect this. And that's not a knock. After only a couple of episodes, I was literally ready to anoint Yuri!!! On Ice as my all time favorite anime.
That first skating sequence where Yuri Katsuki did Victor Nakibarov's program? Tears. So good. So, so good. The animation of the skating sequences is gorgeous, which really should be no surprise coming from MAPPA. (I just found out that MAPPA was founded by one of the co-founders of Madhouse. The more you know.) The opening theme just sets the stage for how just beautifully animated the skating is, you can tell that the animators really fell in love with the sport as they worked. The OVA, "Welcome to the Madness" is some of the most incredible animation I've ever seen.
But what I wasn't expecting was the tone of the show--it wasn't the kind of melodrama that the sport of figure skating is known for. There was a surprising amount of comedy, from Yuri's "loser" characterization, to the three mischievous daughters of the local rink proprietors... they even did a kind of clever reversal of the "naked girl suddenly appears in your bath" trope when Victor showed up at Yuri's family's hot spring! The show then settles into this kind of "feel-good" sports anime.
But the middle of the series was kind of... average? I so very rarely ever say this: I think it could have been longer. I feel like we didn't get enough of the training aspect. Figure Skating training is brutal. It's not that they really left anything out, but it didn't have time to breathe. It just seemed like Yuri's transformation from choke-artist to world-class skater just sort of happened? I think they missed an opportunity. Having 26 episodes to flesh out the space between competitions would have also helped the charming supporting cast.
I will say, though, it was kind of nice to not have a villain. All the skaters, even Yurio the frenemy, even the brash King JJ, they all more or less got along and wanted each other to ultimately find success.
There is a point of contention out there about how "gay" this show actually is. I do understand how some might be disappointed that Yuri and Victor's relationship was not explicitly defined, that it's not true BL or yaoi. But it's also not a show that "only horny fan girls care about." This isn't a lightweight show, and it's awfully reductive to say that some ambiguity of a relationship status reduces it's effect as positive representation. There's an incredible depth of emotion on display, the empathy and compassion in the face of failure showing us that romantic love and winning medals won't solve our problems. Victor and Yuri's relationship is but one facet of their complex lives and not the all-consuming focus. Not to say that it is perfect, that it coudn't be improved, or that you don't have the right to be disappointed, but I think it still is powerful.
I can't say that Yuri!!! on ice quite cracks my personal S-tier of anime, mostly due to the underdeveloped middle of the series, but it is very comfortably in the A+ tier. Shelf worthy!

sweet nat I would like ur thoughts on one toji fushiguro!!
Thanks for this Mar! I dunno why I originally saw the post as separate ask prompts when I sent you the Gojo one, instead of answering them all about a character, my bad!
If anyone else wants to send an ask for this feel free!
Why I like them:
I'm always a sucker for a powerful antagonist lol Especially when they have heaps of trauma built in too, and Toji has that for sure! The way he was outcast by his family but used his heavenly restriction to overcome so much and become a notorious assassin is just peak character to me
Why I don't:
There's not really anything I dislike about him tbh 🤷🏽‍♀️
Favorite scene:
To thirst over- In the anime when he catches the fish in his mouth and then the way his tongue sticks out after releasing it??? 🥵🥵🥵 Mappa had NO RIGHT --plus the backflips in the air with his shirt riding up juuuust enough to give a peak at his back - Chefs's kiss /CINEMA/
In general- The moments of flashback where he recalls his first wife's words about taking care of Megumi and then ends up offing himself to protect Megumi from himself.
Favorite season/movie:
Second season of the show and every single scene involving him if im truthful
Favorite line:
“I don’t go by Zen’in anymore. I got married and took my wife’s name. I go by Fushiguro now." -mans loves his wife TO THIS DAY!
Favorite outfit:
The classic tight dark shirt white slouchy pants combo
OTP:
Toji x Mamaguro OF COURSE! Gosh what I wouldnt give to have some slice of life info from Gege on how they met, fell in love and the little time they all spent together after Megumi was born 🥹 Their love story is so important to me, like she's the G.O.A.T. of "I can make him better" uuuuugh
BroTP:
Uhhhh him and the worm lmao The fact the official fanbook says: "Toji was able to establish a friendly relationship with his inventory curse by earnestly training it like a pet." makes me giddy
Headcanon:
I dunno what's canon, fanon or simply conjecture since i havent read the manga but- I dont believe Toji ever /actually/ forgot who Megumi was in part 1 of Hidden Inventory. I think he was playing it up to downplay Megumi's importance to him in order to keep him safe. I think nearly every decision he makes is to try and keep Megs safe. Naming him a traditionally girl's name to potentially keep the rest of the Zenin clan off their trail since they dont value women no matter their cursed techniques. Finding a wealthy second wife to link himself to so that Megs wouldn't grow up destitute with just him ((even tho i read Toji and Tsumiki's mom apparently "ran away together" and spent up all the inheritance? i dunno i still wanna believe okay)) The way he saw his first wife/first love tbh- in Megumi when they were fighting in the alley and he flashbacked to her telling him to keep Megs safe. I also think that regardless of if it turned out Megs had ended up with the Zenins and taken their clan name after his first death- or the current timeline of him remaining Fushiguro, that Toji would have killed himself to protect Megumi in that last moment. I think the fact that he still had the Fushiguro name let him at least die more peacefully this second time.
Unpopular opinion:
It's hard for me to read certain Toji x Reader content because of how integral I view his relationship with Megumi's mom. I'm not a fan of erasing her from his story/life or having reader be that person for him. I dunno why this is a sticking point for me of all the things I read and write lmao Still love reading shameless smut and also sometimes fluff with him that doesnt dive too deep into things but for deeper dives I feel like any Toji x Reader should be mainly one sided, unrequited romantic feelings for him
A wish:
More backstory for him! There was a fan mockup of sequel focused on him as a kid and growing up and I wanted it to be true sooo bad! I mean we all know he's Gege's favorite so if Gege didnt hate us they'd make it happen, but alas 😩 For now I make do with the adorable art by DDub1618 on twitter!
An oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen:
n/a
5 Words to best describe them:
geeze this feels hard for some reason hmmm: The Greatest of All Time 😎
My nickname for them:
Daddy 😏

C/n: hello, Anon! Thank you for the request and I hope that you enjoy🤍

HCs on Levi With a S/o Who Puts Everyone Else First.
Tumblr media
You were Levi’s heart in human form.
You were kind and always looked out for others.
But sometimes, a bit too much.
You had this reputation of forgetting about yourself and looking for your comrades. Levi experienced this first hand.
It was one expedition where Levi got injured on his leg.
And you flew right to him, instantly.
“Captain? Captain, are you okay?” You ask him searching his legs. “I’m fine, L/n” he tries waking up but falls down.
“No you’re not. Wait. Medic!!”, you held him and called out. When the medics arrived they took Levi and you rode next to him.
But, you were injured too. You moved to suddenly on your gear and you sprained your back, plus you had wounds on your stomach.
Nonetheless, you grinded your teeth and wiped away your tears and rode to base, with Levi.
When you came back, you jumped off your horse and leaned against him, breathing heavily.
“Come on. Stay strong. Levi needs you.”
You feel your back and whince at the feeling. Yeah, enough muscle spasms to get you out of training for a week.
However, you still helped the injured. Your medical skills coming in handy at these times.
“Y/n!”, you hear Hange’s voice. “Hey Hange. How’s Levi?” “Eh, he’s alright. Just a minor fracture. But he needs to heal for a couple of days.”
You sigh. In relief and pain. “Good, that’s good to hear.”, you breathe out. Hange notices your discomfort.
“Y/n, are you injured anywhere?”
Your eyes shoot open and look at Hange.
“W-What? N-no no. I’m fine.”, you lie through your teeth.
“Hm. I don’t believe you. Come on. Let’s go.” “Where to?” “The medic. I’m going to do a check up on you. And if you’re lying, Levi isn’t going to be happy.”
Shit. Now you were in trouble.
Entering the medical room, you see Levi sitting upright on the bed. His eyes widen when he sees you slump against Hange.
“Y/n! What the hell happened?”, he quickly tried waking up. “Uh huh. Sit back down, shorty. I’ll take care of her. Rest your leg.”, Hange says authoritively.
He hesitatedly sat back down watching Hange move you to a bed next to his. She pulled the curtain and began examining you.
Hange fixed your stomach wounds then carefully flipped you over onto your stomach.
She pressed on your lower spine and middle section.
“Just as I thought. You moved too quick on your gear. I have to do acupuncture.”
“Acupuncture?!”, Hange heard Levi scream. “Yes. Now be quiet, Levi. I need to concentrate so I don’t paralyze your girlfriend.” That instantly made Levi shut up.
Hange inserted one needle at a time and pressed your muscles, making them relax. She got rid of your spasms and wrapped your torso up so your back was straight.
Revealing you, Hange opens the curtains and Levi wakes up to sit by you.
“Hi.”, you say to him. “Dont “hi” me. You were injured and you didn’t tell me. What is wrong with you, brat?”, he asks moving your hair away from your face.
“You were injured worse. I needed to take care of you first.”, you say blushing slightly.
Levi sighs and shakes his head. “What am I going to do with you?”,’he whispers to you.
You tuck your hands under your pillow and close your eyes smiling.
“How’s your leg?”, you ask him. “It’s fine. Sleep. I’ll be right here.”
So yeah, Levi always checked on you after that incident. Making sure you were treated first before anyone else and that you weren’t lying about injuries.
“Clumsy brat.”
———————————————————————
“So guys, how was the first episode? I really enjoyed it. MAPPA is doing amazing with the animation so far.”
🖤🤍Thanks for reading🤍🖤

Hi Sav! Have you seen the new levihan art? Do you have any hc? They look sooo cute! To me that's the true ending for them both :')
Tumblr media
I have a bad habit of needing context everytime i write but recently I’ve been trying to get into the drabble game because I think this is a pretty good exercise for writing.
And the new MAPPA art? I guess it was a good way to start. Thanks for the request.
Snow wasn’t anything new. It came once or two days a year within the walls but only as snow flakes that quickly disappeared as soon as they hit the pavement.
That day, for some odd reason, it was piling up. Piling high enough that Hange had to call off morning training, high enough that many of the afternoon meetings were called off
By late afternoon, Hange couldn’t have made any other plans anyway. She was snowed in. They were snowed in.
With nothing much else to do, Hange could only just stare at the window, almost accusingly. It was the snow’s fault after all she couldn't go about her day as planned.
The town was frozen. Life was on standstill. And the only things that continued to move where the snowflakes, piling on top of one another. And they moved quickly, they danced as if mocking the mere mortals whose productivity and work were so easily hampered by something as light as them.
Dancing snowflakes that don’t quickly fade as they fall was a rare view either way and Hange couldn’t help but be hypnotized. She found herself studying the motions of one little snowflake as it danced through the air and landed on the window sill. The windowsill was still untouched and no snowflakes were around  to have cushioned the fall yet it stayed, Then another joined it and before Hange knew it she was counting.
She was a quarter past her hundredth snowflake when something broke her concentration.
“You’re still thinking about work?” Levi had appeared beside her and she didn’t even notice.
Hange soon realized he was blocking her view of the window. “No I wasn’t,” she answered.
Levi raised one eyebrow at her. “You okay?” He had eventually moved away from the window at least and settled on the seat in front of her.
She was irritable for sure. And maybe it had been because she never got to finish counting the snowflakes by the windowsill. By the time she got back to it, it had piled on quickly, into some large completely compact pile by the window. The small flakes that comprised it have become imperceptible.
“You should take this as a sign. A commander needs rest too,” Levi said, giving the snow outside a side glance.
“There’s a lot that still needs to be done.”
“And it can wait another day. The whole city is on stand still right now. Trains aren’t moving, shops are closed…”
“Nothing’s moving so it’s a good time to catch up on work.”
“The work will never end and you have every day after this to do it. Times like these, they don’t come everyday,” Levi said. “Why don’t you use this time to catch up on other things? Like… being Hange for example?”
“I am Hange.”
“Not Commander Hange… I’m talking about Hange… Four eyes…” Levi’s eyes had narrowed at her, as if he were studying her then. His stifled voice, the way he had bit his lip then. He was far from confident with his words.
“That Hange you’re looking for. You think she’s still here?” Hange asked. She looked out the window again, finding something else to be hypnotized with. She had tried to count the snowflakes that hit the window, they fell too fast though and she couldn’t be too sure.
“It’s been a while since you read this right?”
She heard a light thud on the table and she instinctively turned towards the sound.
Levi had dropped a light book in front of her, one very familiar book.  I don’t think you’ve even touched this since last year...”
“Oh, this book…I ended at a really boring part...” Hange started, but really how could she explain that even the most climactic scenes didn’t give her the same rush of adrenaline anymore? Her ubiquitous reading material as of recent had been the purchase orders, invoices and blueprints for whatever new construction was happening in Paradis and it had been that way for the past few years.
“You still remember the story?” Levi asked
Hange didn’t need to answer. Or maybe she didn’t know the answer just yet. By the time she had opened the book, the pages had awakened parts of her memory, she didn’t even know existed yet. She still knew how many pages she had flipped through the last time she had opened the book.
She hadn’t ended in a boring part at all. The last scene had been a cliff hanger and she had been wondering what would happen next. So she was quick to recall it. “You know, I remember this…” Hange said.
“Then finish the book, you have all day to. We’re gonna be snowed in for a while,” Levi said.
Hange shook her head, consciously shifting her eyes away from the book. She remembered the cliffhanger well but her position, her reality didn’t allow her any escape. Could she ever indulge in a book that same way again?
“I said, we have all day to be ourselves. You have all day to be four eyes,” Levi repeated, that time more forcefully. His tone was forceful and maybe it was cold. But the sensation on her back and just around her shoulders wasn’t.
Levi had draped a jacket on her and before Hange could thank him, he had retired to the other room.
The jacket was a comfort, something Hange hadn’t indulged in in a while, and she thought it almost a waste to shake away. The jacket was acting like some sort of restraint, a comfortable restraint at least which Hange was almost willing to accept. With nothing much else to do, she stared at the book in front of her again. She only needed to scan the first paragraph to remember where she had stopped. She only had to read beyond that for the words to so quickly shift to images and once again. Before she knew it, like many years before, Hange’s heart was racing at that cliffhanger at the end of the chapter
You have all day to read. Levi’s words echoed in her head then.
So Hange flipped to the next page, once again careful not to shake off the jacket on her shoulders. The story told of lands of fire, kidnapping and forty degree summer heat. And Hange could have felt it for herself, with just the jacket on her shoulders.
“You seem to be enjoying yourself,” Levi said. He dropped a mug in front of her.
“Was I?” Hange asked.
Levi looked far from amused. But that had been his default anyway. He pointed his finger to his own lips.
Hange was quick to figure it out for herself and she was starting to get a little self conscious.
“Don’t stop smiling, it’s been a while since I’ve seen you like that,” Levi said. And for a second, there really could have been a hint of a smile on his face.
“It’s been a while since I had time to relax like this,”
“Then take it. Don’t feel guilty. I’m relaxing too.” Levi settled on the seat in front of her and took a sip.
Hange followed suit. The warmth lingered in her tongue and it had done wonders to simulate the glaring heat of the land of fire the protagonists were slogging through in the novel.
Around two chapters after, the story had slowed down again, a peaceful denouement before an epilogue. Hange took that moment as a quick reprieve to sip the tea again and stare out at the window at the snow that only piled hire on the sill.
“It’s still warm,” Hange said.
“The tea?” Levi asked.
Hange nodded.
“It’s because you used to always let the tea go cold back in the office. This is the first time in a while you’ve actually drank the tea as soon as I served it.”
She felt a shred of guilt then. Levi’s words had sounded nonchalant but maybe through the years Hange had just figured out for herself, with his own blunt way words and his frank attitude, the words he carried, not the tone, sometimes carried the heaviest weights.
“Thank you,” Hange said. She had opted for a sorry but before she even voiced it, she figured out Levi wouldn’t appreciate it.
“Just relax, that’s a thank you enough,” Levi said.
The two went silent and Hange used that moment again to take a larger gulp of team. She used that moment to stare once again at the snow just outside. She was counting snow flakes again except that time, she was counting them as they hit the sill before they reached the pile on the ground.
Before she knew it, she had picked a favorite snowflake, followed it down to the ground. When she couldn’t find it any longer, she started to appreciate the pile on the ground.
She took one more sip. She pulled the jacket closer towards and continued to stare at the piled up snow, a white blanket on the window sill.
Hange couldn’t help but think, maybe snow could actually be warm.

Fall anime 2020
And wow, it’s the last season of 2020! May the new year be a lot better, not just anime related!
{ Winter ‘18 }  { Spring ‘18 }  { Summer ‘18 }  { Fall ‘18 }  { Winter ‘19 } { Spring ‘19 }  { Summer ‘19 }  { Fall ‘19 }  { Winter ‘20 }  { Spring ‘20 } { Summer ‘20 }
Alongside the continuations and new seasons like fire force, danmachi,  mahouka koukou no rettousei, golden kamuy and so, these are the new shows that we started:
100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru
Tumblr media
It is pretty typical isekai anime, just that it has twist and they can go back to their world every time they do a quest. I could see potential in characters and their development, but they aren’t kind of characters I would care about or watch something with meh plot for. Maybe they are building up for something cool, but for now, it was kind of boring for me.
Akudama Drive
Tumblr media
Overwhelmingly cool show about criminals in a dystopian future world. There is not much to say about the story without spoiling other than being so unnecessary cool that I loved it an unnatural amount! The characters, the setting, the action scenes, the animation and conversations, everything is just so aesthetic! I looked forward to it every week! Gonna miss them a lot. Just beware of a lot of violence and blood scenes (even though they are mostly censored).
By the Grace of the Gods
Tumblr media
A really soft isekai with a boy who tames slimes. This is that one (at least) show of the season where you can just turn off your brain, watch some cuteness and forget about everything. It comes with no strings attached, you can drop it halfway and not think twice about it, it won’t make you feel bad in any way, just happiness and rainbows, and sometimes that’s what I need.
Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- Rhyme Anima
Tumblr media
Women rule the world and pretty boys rap to assert dominance. That’s it, that’s the premise and if you think that ridiculous, yes, it truly is haha If you want to have a laugh, listen to some rapping (can’t say much about the quality of it, but I enjoyed it immensely, good va’s!), go watch it. The plot quality is debatable to say the least, but it’s not really an anime about the story, rather about the 12+ guys and their friendships and rivals and well... rap.
Ikebukuro West Gate Park
Tumblr media
Although a little bit on the improbable side to happen IRL, Ikebukuro WGP showcases multiple situations where we dive behind the back of many realistic happenings in bigger cities. There is always some company in conflict with another thinking solving it in their way is the best possible choice, not taking into consideration what happens to the little people bearing their consequences. It is of course up to the “good mafia” guys to solve it. If you are reading the Webtoon Weak Hero and are in search for some more realistic gang divisions, then feel free to give this anime a try. It has a pretty lovable and crafty MC minus the high-school setting.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Tumblr media
Ohh my where to start xD yes, you are looking at the fan favorite anime of this season and there is no doubt about it having that title. I can go on and try to convince everyone saying it has the perfect animation, soundtrack, appearance of the characters and so on but to truly experience it, you will have to watch it. Character development is on the slower track but it is understandable since it is obvious that the series will be a “long distance runner”. What impressed me the most is the perfect balance of humor and tragedy, so if you are one to typically enjoy shonen anime, give it definitely a try through the 3 episodes rule!
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear

A girl got isekai’d in a game and now finds friends and people she cares about. Oh and she’s in a bear suit. This was one of those shows I watched for relaxation. There are no bad emotions coming from it and you can just relax, watch something that doesn’t need you to turn on your brain and try to be happy. If you are looking for something serious, you won’t really find it here.
Majo no Tabitabi
Tumblr media
A witch that travels the world, visiting many cities and meeting a lot of people, hearing their stories and moving on. Not action packed, but has things happening throughout the eps. I thought it would be another happy show, but it turned to be quite dark in some episodes. Most episodes have their separate story with minimal connection to the previous ones and some are heartwarming and some are downright grim. Overall, the plot is interesting and the MCs development and way of thinking is interesting too!
Maoujou de Oyasumi

I KNEW this one is gonna be good when I first read the description of the manga in the bookstore 2 years ago xD What you see above is a small princess who wishes nothing more than a good sleep and a bunch of demons who decided to capture her. It becomes clear early on that she isn’t your typical prisoner as she sets out on quests to find stuff to make her rest more comfortable and NOTHING is gonna stand in her way. Your time watching this anime will be filled with heartfelt laughter and love for the all the characters. Yes, some people might be triggered by her actions and personality but I do believe since I (as a person who prefers to watch shonen) am impressed with it, a great number of people will like it.
Munou na Nana
Tumblr media
I really love this anime. MC is an antagonist, pretty much an antihero, but she was made to believe that she is the hero. She is very smart, so anything she plots end up interesting. This show always keeps me on the end of my seat. And it’s a great combination of everyone has supernatural abilities + high school setting, but with a darker twist to it. It’s one of my favorites this season!
Noblesse
Tumblr media
I read the webtoon and I am fan of it, so I am really happy to see Noblesse became an anime! Characters are really awesome and plot is action packed. I’m sure you won’t regret watching it! The humor, the lore and the action is very well balanced and it’s just a good story. If you feel like you really like the anime, but something is missing and you have some time, the webtoon is amazing! Of course, they actually did the anime quite well, but some jokes or additional train of thought that goes in the characters head cannot be all transferred into the animation. Oh and - watch Noblesse: Awakening before this! That’s like the crash course of the first arc of the story.
Taiso Samurai
Tumblr media
A MAPPA anime about a japanese gymnast on the verge of retirement, his daughter and a ninja they adopted! That about covers it! It’s a soft and heartwarming story that really leaves a good feeling after watching it. The characters are lovable and the drama side of the story levels out with humor pretty well, without glossing over stuff too much. I can’t say much about the sports aspect since I don’t know much, but it was worth the watch even though it isn’t the most amazing action-packed anime ever. But it was a solid story, good charas and was just soft.
With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun
Tumblr media
One and a half minute of a lady with a cat and a dog being incredibly relatable.
Yuukoku no Moriarty
Tumblr media
Ah yes, I’m a sucker for every possible variation of sherlock homes, so it’s no wonder how much I enjoyed this. It’s centered about Moriarty, but Sherlock has his time in the later half of the show. The animation is just so beautiful, I loved the stories and mysteries and the way they handled Moriarty as a character. Also a good mixture of mystery, people being hideous creatures, main characters being pretty af and humor. I should continue to the manga now.

ooohhh wow!!
So I was looking up what new series are coming in 2022, and...
HOLY CRAP, JIGOKURAKU IS GETTING AN ANIME?
How come I didn't know about this before! I love Jigokuraku! It's in the same vein as the likes of Yamaguchi Takayuki's works, albeit a lot less unhinged and (homo)eroguro; the same kind of over-the-top, bold and dramatic manga built around tickling one's lizard brain, evoking primal and visceral emotions. It's a manga driven by "FUCK YEAH" lines and "OH FUCK AWESOME" visual punches. It's the kind of manga that feels like the comics equivalent of someone training for months, climbing up a mountain, taking off all their clothes and screaming "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" for hours.
(Just, like, a bit less loud than Yamaguchi Takayuki. All things considered, Jigokuraku is still a Jump manga.)
So yeah, I love Jigokuraku and OH WOW it's getting an anime!! There's even a trailer!!!

...and it's nice, but also a bit underwhelming. :(
I mean. I'm sure many fans of the manga are over the moon that MAPPA is animating it, and yeah, okay, it could've been worse, but yet again it seems like they're just not putting enough creativity and heart into a show, treating it as just another assembly line product. Yes, the animation is fluid and crisp, but contrary to popular opinion, fluid and crisp animation in itself doesn't automatically equal "good visuals".
I mean, look at that trailer. Yes, it looks good. But where's the drama and passion?! Where's the punch?! Where's the visual power that grabs your guts and pulls them out and makes you enjoy it? Just generally - where's the creativity? Jigokuraku is not a story for crisp, clean lines, clear and precise colors, straightforward camera angles and so on! This is a story for vague, messy and dynamic visuals, splashes and wobbles, distortions and moments of sudden clarity. The entire point of the island is how unreal it is, completely removed from what people think of as reality. It's Paradise that is Hell! I mean look at these:

(There's a lot more stronger and more fun imagery there, I just didn't want to be too spoilery.)
As much as I don't think that the first season of Kekkai sensen worked well as a "Kekkai sensen anime" (it was a case of Matsumoto Rie screaming "LISTEN TO MY SONG!!" way too loudly) its visuals were impeccable. They conveyed the style, the mood, the dynamics of the manga and the story perfectly.

This is the approach to visual direction that an anime adaptation of Jigokuraku should also have, at least in my opinion.
Anyway, it could be worse, and I'm still excited and will be watching it! I just hope that the animation will be, overall, more powerful than it seems like from the trailer because for a manga like this the visuals add so much to its overall feel and value.
I also hope it'll get two cours, because one cour would be a crying shame.
