A/N: Happy Valentine's Day! I give you some Kaesoka content! Have a wonderful day you amazing people! Been a while since I've posted a new chapter of this! Think it was about last year.
Here's what Kaeden and Morai are like in the AU!
Also Kaesoka Mer AU link here.
________________________________________________________________________________
Kaeden trudged through the morning muggieness on her way to her job. She moved quickly and with determination so as not to attract any unwanted attention.
Work always started early, she worked aboard an Imperial sea farming ship, her work consisted of doing on board tasks to help collect the catches, and she would be sent to tend to the underwater crops the Empire grew around her home island and its neighbors. It wasn't entirely unpleasant, as she enjoyed working with plants, but the Empire appointed captains were usually not very amicable or forgiving of mistakes.
That was one of the reasons Kaeden made sure she was at work early.
She made it to the dock and checked the board to see if there were any departure delays or cancellations. To her surprise, all ships had been canceled for an undisclosed reason.
Huh, guess I'll just go help Miara at Selda's, get some free food. She started heading back, going at a bit of a slower pace than before.
The morning fog hung over the docks, creating a hazy blur of gray. Idly, Kaeden's thoughts wander back to the mermaid she'd seen, the mermaid was a wonderful swimmer, no doubt about it. When she closed her eyes she could still see the flash of that brilliant blue in the mermaid's tail.
I wonder if I'll ever see her again.
XXX
Ahsoka only ever came this close to docks and ports if she had the cover of darkness with her. On a cloudy, dreary day with heaps of fog and mist hanging over the bay, it was the perfect time for a daylight approach.
She swam low, with sea plants dragging behind her and covering her to give the illusion of some sea creature covered in plants. She knew it was risky, she knew how badly it could go if she was caught, but she had to know. She needed to know if that girl who saw her had talked, needed to know if she said anything at all and if Ahsoka needed to find a new place for her and Morai to live. She really didn't want to move again.
A transformation via magic would be less detectable here, it was remote and the sound of life here could decently cover up the magic use, not as well as on her island, but good enough and brief enough for it to cause no more than the assumption of a baby or two, maybe twins, being born. And she was using a potion, which further cut back on the amount of magic noise.
All I have to do is find the right place to change. She swam towards the emptiest, yet still magically loud area of the bay, a spot that it wouldn't be odd to see someone coming from.
She popped the screw off and downed the potion, using it at the same time as magic to assume a landwalker form.
She examined her body, her legs were nice, they looked fully natural, even if they felt especially odd to walk on after five years without practice. Her scattered scales had disappeared, and the brighter blues on her lekku and montrals were gone as well, her gills too.
She still had her scars, a pity. The pair that cut across her thighs looked worse than they did on her tail. She hoped the marks weren't too defined to give away anything, if anyone asked, she could say it was from an accident as a youngling, a partial truth.
I'm fairly certain landwalkers still don't walk around half naked, I should change. Ahsoka had been smart enough to think ahead and bring an extra set of clothes, her usual attire was unfit for above the waves, since it didn't provide much support, didn't exactly have a bottom half, and it was wet.
She almost laughed at the reactions she could have gotten strolling in as she currently was. The faces would have been priceless.
She changed into something more suitable for a landwalker. It was a little difficult, getting dressed wet while looking out for any danger, but she succeeded and decided it was best to practice her walking before entering the port town. She'd definitely be attracting unwanted attention walking like she was drunk.
She spent an hour practicing her walking and posture, until her muscle memory started to kick in and her body caught up with the change. She also came up with a cover story for her sudden appearance.
She was Ashla, a mechanic, from one of Shili's colony islands, the one she was from was unimportant and unremarkable. She was visiting to inform a friend of her mother's and to take a look at the problem they had last written about, though if they weren't here she wouldn't be surprised because it had been quite a while since she got that letter and it took her a while to arrive. She was also in town to see if there was anything she could do, and hear about local lore and folktales, since she had a passion for that sort of stuff and liked to write the stories down, and, she almost laughed, make some of her own.
Ah, a mechanic from an unremarkable island colony who aspired to be a folk writer. Yes, that would do just fine.
She checked herself in a tide pool of still water. She looked enough like a passable landwalker. She just hoped her back story was enough cover.
Ahsoka ran a hand down her lekku, checking for any remnants of scales that might give her away. There were none, so she braced herself and walked up the small, barely defined path to the port town.
XXX
Kaeden dropped the bucket of dishes off at the washing station, waved an apology to the washers, and went out again.
Selda's place was extra busy due to the port being closed, and thus all the sea workers not having any work today.
Lots of them were taking the chance to get drunk with whatever extra money they had on them. And there were a fair amount of patrons leaving for a while, then coming back with a partner or two.
So Selda's was full of a bunch of rowdy drunkard workers, sex workers and others.
Selda had his hands full with stopping any fights. He gave the drunkest diluted drinks so they didn't kill themselves drinking.
Kaeden bent and scooped up a handful of spilled credits.
The one good thing about the drunk patrons was that they didn't notice when they dropped their money.
Days like these were when everyone got to bring home extra money.
She went to a table on the calmer side of the establishment, there was a divider to keep the partying drunks from the diners.
She caught sight of Rahari and Yseno Obun. The pair of Twi'lek women had finished with their appetizer. They were talking and laughing with each other. They were on a date to celebrate their first anniversary. They both loved the place so they had to come here.
They were some of her friends. She didn't see them, or anyone, much due to her job. It would be nice to catch up with them. She hadn't really seen them since their wedding.
"Kaeden!" She almost dropped the dish tray when Rahari called out to her.
The pale indigo Twi'lek was waving to her. She approached their table.
"Hello ladies, how's your night going?" She asked as she collected their dishes.
"We're having a great time." Yseno told her.
"We didn't expect to see you here, what a treat it is, how've you been? We haven't seen you in ages." Rahari said.
"Oh, you know me, I've been working-"
Rahari rolled her eyes.
"Kae, your always working, you should take a break so we can hang out like we used to, it wouldn't kill you to take a break every now and then, would it?" Yseno said, giggling.
"With the rent I have to pay, it might." Kaeden scoffed.
The older girls gave her a concerned look.
"Why don't you and Mia move in with us, we got a house not to far from the port so you could still make it to work." Yseno suggested.
"Or you could ask Selda to help you out, everybody in this port respects that man. Even the Empire." Rahari added.
It was true that Selda was well respected, outside of the small island of Raada even. The reason was lost in tales and stories, most centered around him once fending off and possibly even killing a sea serpent. The mysterious injuries to his arm and lekku made it all the more likely, as did the sea serpent fang that sat in a protected case. It was all the Empire had let a civilian like him keep from the beast.
He had been payed a very hefty sum for both the slaying of the beast and it's body, as well as being declared the offical warden of magic in Raada and it's neighbouring islands.
Selda was who you went to when you had a magic problem.
He'd had his restaurant before all that, and used his money to expand it, hire more people and get better quality food, all at a decent price for patrons. At Selda's you could get good quality without having to spend a full paycheck. He would still use the money to help people out, as his restaurant was quite successful and he didn't keep much of his money from that, only enough to easily cover any accidents that might happen. The rest was put towards helping the community and paying his workers.
Many suspected his concern over the communal wellbeing stemmed from his Togruta nature. Togruta were extremely communal and protective of their community. He would help anyone who needed it, like when Kaeden and Miara's parents had been killed by the same sea serpent he slayed and he'd given them the support they needed.
Kaeden suspected he felt personal guilt for her parents deaths, they had been good friends.
"Maybe, I don't want to bother him too much." Kaeden said.
"I'm positive he wouldn't mind, Kae." Rahari said.
Kaeden just nodded and took the dishes to the back, passing the waiter bringing the Obun couple their food.
The door opened, someone came in and went to the receptionist.
"I'd like a table please."
Kaeden stopped and almost crashed into some other worker. That voice was absolutely beautiful, it sounded like a gentle song sung in a quiet, star filled night. Her cheeks burned and she continued on her way.
"Of course ma'am, do you have someone you're waiting for or is it just you today?" The receptionist asked.
"Just me, although I wouldn't mind an extra seat or two, I like to chat with new people." The beautiful, song like voice spoke again.
"Aha, yes ma'am, right this way." A waiter said, taking the woman to her seat.
Kaeden caught a glimpse of orange as the woman followed, she didn't see any more of her. Lots were staring. Kaeden hoped she hadn't attracted the attention of the rowdier patrons.
She quickly scurried back to the kitchen and delivered her load of dishes.
Everyone was already whispering about the woman with the beautiful voice. So she got everyone's attention then. Kaeden thought.
She wiped her hands on her apron and prepared to deliver the next order.
Right when she had everything together, the waiter who had seated the woman approached her. There was a sly grin on their face.
"Kaeden, she's asked for you." They said.
"Oh? Does she want me to be her waiter?" Kaeden asked.
She didn't know she had gotten that woman's attention. She hoped it wasn't just because she'd almost fallen in front of her.
"No, she wants to talk with you." They smirked.
Kaeden was keenly aware of everyone staring at her, her cheeks burned.
"I supose if that's what she wants." Kaeden said, unsure of what exactly she was supposed to do.
"Come with me then."

Ahsoka instantly recognized the waiter who almost crashed into another as the human who had spotted her the other day. With the port closed indefinitely, she seemed to have taken a temporary job here.
Ahsoka maintained her carefully crafted, practiced smile. She had been extremely lucky to come upon her so soon. She'd have to ask for her.
"Of course ma'am, do you have someone you're waiting for or is it just you today?" The receptionist, a young Nautolan woman, asked.
"Just me, although I wouldn't mind an extra seat or two, I like to chat with new people." Ahsoka said.
The receptionist nodded and motioned for a waiter to come up.
"Aha, yes ma'am, right this way." The waiter said.
She was taken to a secluded table in a darker corner of the restaurant. Small decorative lights were hung around the walla, and her table had a jellyfish light over it.
The waiter pulled back the jellyfish's outstretched tentacles, which formed a curtain that, with the light they produced and their overlapping, would keep prying eyes from truly deciphering any conversations. She suspected this type of setup was used for those who wanted more privacy, but also for those who would have shady dealings.
Ahsoka took her seat and started to examine the menu. She was excited to see the wide variety of options, obviously there was seafood, but it included more exotic options as well. Truthfully, a bit of a break from her usual diet of seafood and what little fruit she could properly digest on her island would be a welcome treat.
She glanced at the open seat across from her.
"I saw a waiter who almost collided with another when I arrived, could you bring her? I have a feeling she knows a few stories that might be interesting to hear." Ahsoka requested politely.
She was thankful for her years spent on land, they had taught her how to act in situations such as this, where she was pretending to be someone with some level of higher education. Of course she did have a higher education, but the content of said education was hardly something she could bring up in a place like this. Too many eyes and ears, she had to be extra careful now.
The waiter looked the slightest bit confused by her request, but nodded anyway.
"Yes ma'am, I'll go get her." They said.
She nodded her thanks and went back to her menu. If the human did not provide any useful information for this first meeting, she assumed she could stick around town to see and meet with her again. It wouldn't hurt anyone as long as she was careful.

Do you like it? I had fun writing, even if it took me a while to get going, that's how I am sometimes.
Also let me know what you think of the character designs!
I hope you all have a good day, whatever that is for you!

As for myself, I gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The creature spared our lives, and in return I honored her with my absolute silence. Some things, no matter how magnificent they are, are best left alone. And as to whether I'd ever see her again, the answer is yes. But that's another story.

The fandom consensus of "HE'S IN THE WALLS" is so strong that if it turns out Lucius survived in a different way I'd react to that like a real plot twist lmao
like what if they reveal he's alive because he's just a really strong swimmer

Celebrating Mermay, redoing for the billionth time that mermaid I posted sometime last year! That design disgusts me! :D It lasted a week before I regretted ever having the ability to draw. Hopefully now that she is actually based off of a fish her design will stick better.
Her girlfriend is this creechur thing I drew (clearly) off of a picrew! This reference is crusty but I still like it :> I do not know if the person has a Tumblr (the person who made the picrew) if they do, someone tell me so I can link their page! ..... Actually any of their social medias I could link that just as easily
