Tumblr Trios Tournament: Second Edition

It's happening, folks! The second Trios Tournament! I did this before but have decided to do it again to have new trios and give it a second shot. So let's just get to our first fights and show off who's here! I did make some last-minute changes but either way, we have some names, both well-known and not well-known, fighting for the title of winner.

But first let me lay down some stuff-

The question is not "Who would win in a fight?", it's "Who do you love more?".

The polls will last a week so that there is enough time for a larger sample size. You are allowed to reblog to help in that process so please be sure to reblog.

There is a Side A and a Side B. I will have Sides A and B be separated into different weeks to make keeping track easier for me to do. This will end when we are in the finals with the last two.

All the battles have been randomized so some fight pairings may be bizarre.

Hehe uh I'm so sorry I thought I posted this ages ago but must've misclicked to drafts... so sorry

Penny loves Rapunzel. For one they're both just a tad unhinged, she hardcore relates on wanting to see the outside world and feeling a bit trapped ya know. Like Rapunzel she has a million and one Hobby's! She adores the love story between Rapunzel and Flynn. She's obsessed with the scene in the movie where Flynn breaks outta prison.

Mischa's would be Mulan. he loves himself a badass shawty just tryin to save china and make her family proud anddd he's sobbing like full on sobbing she did it she saved china against all odds, She made her family hella proud and she got the hunk. He thinks Yao, Ling and Chein po are the most hilarious trio of all time.

Ocean really likes Elsa CONCEAL DONT FEEL no but ocean thinks Elsa is hella smart and would be a amazing queen(Totally doesn't have any hidden away feelings that are gonna burst at any given moment of stress) she super dislikes Anna though too ditzy for her liking (didn't help that everyone in school calls her Anna for months after frozen is released)

Noel loves Tiana! She's a bit tragic she falls in love with a "bad" boy but still being a strong lady who knows what she wants (also he loves the theatrics of the shadow man)

Ricky is a old fashioned boy and he likes Cinderella. He loves a rags to riches story. He likes the old animation style of Disney especially the dress animations. He also is the loudest voice in the argument of how the hell prince charming couldn't tell that Cinderella was Cinderella

Constance likes Merida. She too doesn't want to be the same as her parents she wants anything but. She understands the annoying little brothers the I'm right all the time mom the dad who just doesn't want to argue. She dreams about just doing whatever she wants. She also understand the absolute love of her brother, the mom who loves her without questions, the dad who would die for her.

Platonic Shidge and Klance Mulan AU

Pidge—Mulan

Shiro—Shang

Keith—Yao

Lance—Ying

Hunk—Chein Po

Rover—Milan’s horse

Green Lion—Mushu

I got the low key basics down there, and the Primary Color Trio definitely keep their normal personalities.

So Katie decides to go to war in place of her father, and also find her brother, Matt, who was already fighting and disappeared. She gets to war, and has the alias Pidge.

The Primary Colors discover her secret pretty early on, and decide to help Pidge (and, Pidge thinks, the name is starting to grow on her)

Also, all the romantic moments in the movie belong to Klance in this okay? Okay, they are a while subplot and this is Pidge-centric (what is it with me making Pidge-centric ideas with a Klance side?) It also has some Adashi, but I’m gonna break your heart in a second.

So the gang does all their training, which is intense, but Hunk decides to be a sweetheart and help Pidge, which means Lance and Keith follow. They train together as much as possible, and eventually impress Shiro a bunch.

As they are marching to the grounds of the first battle, and they talk about their types (see: the song that’s sung there.) Hunk says he has someone waiting for him at home, Shay. Lance says something along the lines of Keith, and Keith describes Lance (they don’t notice though). Then they get to the site, and all they see is wreckage. The Primary Colors know Pidge’s identity (they found out during all the training because the training is included and not glossed over in a song, it is also when Klance mutual pining happens), and everyone is horrified at the scene. That’s when a random soldier tells Shiro to come over, and lo and behold, Adam’s captain helmet is in the middle of the wreckage.

Now let’s go to when everyone finds out Pidge is a girl. They don’t kill her, duh, but she tells the Primary Trio to go on without her. They do so reluctantly, and now Pidge is stranded.

Not to worry though, she finds a cave that is filled with supplies. She rests there, too tired to think about anything else. When she wakes up, someone is tending a fire in the cave. She screams, and the voice says “woah, lady, calm down,” and Pidge gapes. Then his eyes widen in recognition, and Pidge whispers “Matt?”

So they travel together and get to the main place, and the normal battle happens ya know yeee, Pidge is SO BADASS, and by the end, Shiro is like another big brother figure.

Pidge watches as Lance and Keith lean against each other at the end of the battle, and she knows something happened during battle okay.

They all have a happy ending, and I didn’t go into depth on the brother-sister relationship Shiro and Pidge will have but it’s THERE

How I would rewrite Mulan 2020 pt 3

#3 Mulan trains in the army and makes new friends

Mulan is on guard the moment she stepped into the camp, intimidated by the overwhelming presence of testosterone. She joins the throngs of men queuing to be registered, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible, but an asshole named Yao, who is bothering a sweet, doe-eyed young boy nicknamed Cricket, causes a commission which ended up having someone pummeling towards Mulan and knocking her off her feet.

“You alright?” a nice young man, Shang, extended his hand to help her up. She pushes his hand aside and stands up by herself, muttering, “I’m fine.”. Shang is a little taken aback by the coldness of this strange, petite, young boy, but shrugs it off and resumes his position standing behind Mulan.

Her guarded behaviour did not sit well with the hot-tempered Yao, who took it as a sign of arrogance and rudeness. He will often make snide remarks at Mulan and make fun of her, and sometimes play pranks on her with his friend, Ling. Harmless pranks, but Mulan is thoroughly annoyed and dislikes him.

At first, Mulan has real trouble keeping up with the training. Sure, she had ran around the fields as a child and practiced martial arts and swords with her father, but she is still after all a lady that did not have to do heavy farm work. Needless to say, her physical condition is weaker than most of the men training alongside her. She is one of the last few in running drills, she can barely lift one stone weight to train her arms and her aiming with a bow is terrible (everyone is terrible at it too, except Cricket, who is extremely lucky).

Practice matches with bamboo poles as makeshift swords are the worst for Mulan. Initially, Mulan is matched with weaker opponents, such as Cricket, who has neither strength nor the skills to wield the bamboo pole. She easily defeats them with her skills, and is always humble after winning a match. As Cricket fell to the floor with a hard thump, Mulan extended her hand and commented, “Good match!” with a smile, earning a grateful smile back from Cricket as well as his respect and friendship. Her luck ran out when she is matched with Shang, whom, after an intense match, finally defeated Mulan with some skill and strength, tiring her out with powerful whacks of the pole and lasting longer with his good stamina, gotten from years of plowing the fields and other farm work for his father. The next day, she is matched with Yao, who is merciless in delivering blow after blow. His brute strength soon overpowered Mulan, who quickly fell to the floor with new bruises forming on her body. This continued for several days as she is matched with stronger and bigger opponents.

Everyday is torturous, and as Mulan lies her aching body carefully onto the hard wooden bed one night, a single tear drops from her face. She remembers her family, the last time she saw them before she left for the army. Her father laying quietly at the side, her mother with her face knotted in a worried frown as she slept beside him, gripping the hand of her sister sleeping on the floor. She struggles to keep her tears in, and forces herself to sleep.

But Mulan is not one to give up. Like her father, she is hardworking and smart, and over time she learns to adapt. Through sheer grit, she pushes herself to run faster everyday and no longer finishes as one of the last few. She can now lift one stone weight with one hand, which she passes to the other to work out both arms. She asks the better archers to teach her how to use the bow, and improves over time.

Finally, she is once again in a practice match, and her opponent is Yao. As Yao comes after her with all his strength, she avoids as much as she can, frowning as she tries to figure out how to defeat him. Yes, he is stronger than her, but what does she have that she can take advantage of to strike him? Distracted, she is hit in the stomach by him, and falls backwards on the floor. While Yao gloats and basks in the praises and cheers thrown for him, Mulan struggles to stand and uses her pole as a support. The bamboo pole bends a little but does not break, and this gives her an idea.

As Yao turns his attention back to Mulan, he smiles wickedly and sprints towards her, set to give her the final blow. To the crowd’s surprise, Mulan sprints towards Yao as well. Right at the last moment, Mulan sticks the pole hard into the sand and jumps. The bamboo bends at Mulan’s weight, but does not break, and as it recoils, it propels Mulan upwards and forward with such speed and force that for a split second, Mulan seems to be soaring in the air like a phoenix taking flight.

Everything is in slow motion as all eyes stare up at Mulan, who seem to be shining golden with the Sun at her back. Then, time speeds up as Mulan comes hurtling down fast, right leg sticking out to land a kick right at Yao’s chest with extra force from gravity. The force is so great that Yao flew a few feet back before landing hard, the wind knocked right out of him.

Silence. Finally, Shang recovered and lets out a cheer for Mulan. Cricket’s enthusiastic applause follows, and soon the whole crowd bursts into cheer. Mulan smiles as she receives the approval and respect of all these men, and she finally feels that she belongs.

On the other side of the ring, as Yao struggle to sit up, a couple of guys start booing and laughing at his pathetic state. Yao’s friends Ling and Chein-Po rush to his aid. Mulan sees this and quickly makes her way to Yao, extending her hand to him. “Thank you for the good match Yao, really. You were a very tough opponent,” Mulan said sincerely, letting her guard down and smiling for the first time at him. Yao is surprised at her smile, and smiles back, pleased that she finally does not seem arrogant. He takes her hand and stands, the two are finally friends, respecting each other.

From then on, and after various incidents (one of them involving Shang and Mulan accidentally taking a bath together), Mulan unwittingly bonds with her group of new friends as she opens up more. Previously, she felt like a fish out of water and was extremely uncomfortable and intimidated around the men, hence her guarded attitude. But after feeling accepted by them and feeling like their equal, she is finally comfortable enough to let her guard down. She talks and jokes freely with Shang, Yao, Cricket, Ling and Chien-Po and expresses herself comfortably, with nothing as superficial as gender to hold her back.

Mulan and Shang probably had the strongest fucking romantic relationship in Disney history.

You can say what you want and I could write a ten page essay on the fact that no matter what, Shang did fall for, or at lest really trusted and cared and respected her as Ping.

This solider starts off with wrecking havoc and causing massive chaos at the camp.

He then couldn't tell his name for almost an entire minute.

He went from being absolutely crap to then be the best at everything he used to struggle with. As well as Chien-Po, Ling and Yao. Which also makes me suspect that the three of them were definitely amongst the best soldiers, as well as Ping..Shang and the other soldiers trusted the three of them enough for like for the soldiers to trust them when they saved Shang and Mulan, and for Shang to trust them enough to join them at the end because he knew that even if they sometimes made mistakes, they somehow always managed to get the upper hand just as quickly. Even if their intent was comic-relief I think one can definitely interpret it in a way that would suggest that the they were amongst the best. Because unlike Ping, they at least had some advantages and everything Ping struggled with, Chein-Po, Ling and Yao were confident enough about to sabotage him. (Well not Chien-Po bc he was the purest.)

And Ping was the only one who couldn’t keep up with the other soldiers when they ran with weights. Ping was so bad that Shang almost sent him home.

And that’s when he fucking starts to really catch up, as well as the other soldiers. And that’s when he realise how truly talented Ping is. From being the worse at almost every challenge to become amongst the best. Which is why Shang is so fkn amazed and proud and fucking beaming every time Ping beats the shit out of him.

And then!!!!!!! This dudes cart blows up out of no where? He steals the last canon??? He’s not even AIMING at Shan Yu and instead he shoots it into the Moutain, causing an avalanche that wiped out SEVERAL THOUSAND soldiers and left only five survivors.

When he discovers Ping’s secrete he's not mad bc it turns out Ping is a woman, he's mad that she lied. And somewhere he, as well as Chien-Po, Ling and Yao knew that this was the same person. That's why the three of them were the only ones who tried to stop it when they thought Shang was going to execute her and also one of the reasons why he decided to spare her life.

They leave. Thinking they will never see this woman again. But then she fucking shows up!!! when that is the last thing they expected. She fucking predicts that the Huns are still alive and then she comes up with the most unexpected plan and they realise that this IS the same person. Just as reckless, just as clever and just as good as Ping was, Mulan was as well. They were the same person and that's why Shang and the others chose to trust her at the end.

He didn’t do it because she was suddenly a woman. He did it bc he realised that somewhere along the way, he had already fallen for her. Way, way before that.

When she was about to leave, Shang didn’t know what to say, because while he knew this was the same person, he didn’t know whether or not he should be be treating her the same. So the only thing that comes out is “You fight good.” Which leaves Mulan disappointed. Bc she too has fallen for Shang and formed a strong bond with him. So when that was his way of saying goodbye, she thought maybe she wasn’t the type of woman he would fall for after all. Because she was the complete opposite of what everyone thought she should be. So she thought that maybe this was his way of saying that he wasn’t interested in trying to explore this relationship further because of that. Which sadden her a great deal. So of course it means the world to her when he shows up. Because that means she has found someone she could truly be herself with.

So why the fuck did they think it was a good idea to erase that completely and give us some fuckwad.

Top Ten Characters You Want to See -- BDRPwrimo #21

Teens! More young teens! (Under 17). We’ve got a big gaggle of older teens about to start uni, but no one really younger. I love HS drama and it’s always so fun to have a variety of personalities all forced to interact. Since Swynlake Secondary is so small it is instant connections galore! (Foxy Loxy, Rex, Roo, Penny--just to name a few.)

Villains! Like real villains, here to stir some shit up. I just love me some good old fashioned evil. (Gaston, Clayton, Yzma, Facilier, etc.)

Fairies! I love the fairies, and there is a lot of potential to grow that part of our world. We have so many that are available, you can practically taste the variety.

Hospital People -- Kanga and Kala, etc, etc. Come join the Swynlake’s Anatomy fam. I promise, it’s a lot of fun.

Ashitaka. Someone pick him up before I do, I s2g.

Barbie and Ken. I wrote their skeletons so I’m biased, but I love them. Barbie could be so interesting. Ken is a doll (haha pun.)

Everyone else had said this but ALADDIN AND MULAN CHARACTERS, I’ve had both Mushu and Jasmine on my list. They are still there. We shall see, we shall see. They are both such great movies with great characters and there is so much to do world-building wise with those universes.

Any genderfluid/nonbinary character. They always bring a new and interesting perspective and we could always use more (Te Ka, Tortoro, Polyhymnus, Erato, Mulan!!)

Genderlect Theory

I choose the film Mulan by Walt Disney as an example of a Genderlect theory. Mulan often talks in private with Mushu, to convey her thoughts about her training or her worries of being caught as a female disgusing as a soldier for her father sake, for example. While Shang, as the head army leader in the camp was giving an order to the men to take an arrow from the top pole as part of their training, in which at least one man who succeed it can prove him that they are ready to go for war. This two scenes have prove Tannen's claim where she stated, women talks more in than men in private conversation, while men are much more suitbale in public speaking environment; where they tend to search the establishment of 'one-up' position.

In one of the scene, Yao, Ling and Chein-Po were joking around constantly and there was also one part where they challenge among themselves to see who is the strongest. Tannen noted that compare to women, the men tell more stories by joking; which to them is the most masculine way to achieve status, one of the way is like competing one another via 'can-you-top-this?'. Another way for the men to tell their stories, Tannen claimed that the men are the heroes in their stories. This is seen in Mulan, where Chi-Fu was telling how proud he was as being one of the Emperor's close advisor; to him, possessing that status is considered as one of the higly achievement at that time. In comparison to the women, Tannen stated that the way women tell their stories is by talking about others. In one of the muscial scene in Mulan, there was a part where when Mulan was getting ready for her appointment with the matchmakers, few of the women were mentioning how scary the matchmaker is by stating "Scarier than the undertaker. We are meeting our matchmaker". Tannen further mentioned that "woman is a character in her own narrative", which she meant was women would describe themselves silly in their own stories rather than how men would be the heroes in theirs.
