Mum preps this Pork Ribs & Noodles Soup for our dinner. Beside the pieces of yong tau foo (酿豆腐), she also added fish maw (鱼鳔/花胶) and leafy lettuces. The slightly flatter yellow noodles to better soak up the dried scallop, sweetened broth.

Dad’s pepper stock
I know it’s slightly past its expiry/BB date but . .. I assure you, it’s okay!
This was something I got from Hmart several months ago. I literally forgot about it .. . but it’s called “Dad’s pepper stock” in English.
It’s about the size of a TP cardboard & it has ‘pills’ inside :O
I have never seen this product before.
The stock pills o_O sooooo weird. I mean, I use the pho broth stock often but those are in cubes but this was in this disk pill form.
Anddddd of course, the instructions on the back of the container was covered with the nutrition facts sticker -.-” so I had no idea what it’s used for / how it’s used. But I Googled in Korean briefly & it’s just a mild spicy broth with slightly vegetable flavour. So I added 1 pill to my fish cake broth for my noodle soup.
It was mildly spicy with. .. not much flavour besides a little heat TBH. Bcos it was my 1st time using it, I wasn’t sure how spicy it’d be but now I know I can put 2 in next time for my singular serving of noodle soup. I’m unsure what else I should use it for.. . it’s literally bland; just a little spicy. Hmmmmmm

Mum is growing old and not as energetic as before so I told her to take it easy and not spend too much time preparing dinner. When it is just the two of us eating, just do one pot meals like this Yong Tau Foo & Pork Ribs Noodles Soup or I can always do takeout.
