"Holiness Hoodoo: Rediscovering Ancestral Roots Without Jesus"

The term "Holiness Hoodoo" may leave some people puzzled, so allow me to clarify its meaning. In my view, Holiness Hoodoo represents a return to the traditional practices of my ancestral lineage, a way to decipher who I am and what my purpose entails. Many of our forebears were devout Christians, and this undeniable fact forms the backdrop of my spiritual journey. Despite the complex relationship that many Black Americans have with the Bible due to the scars of slavery, it's essential to remember that it wasn't the Bible itself that caused harm, but the people wielding it as a tool of oppression.

As I delved deeper into the realms of ancestral magic, I began to notice striking parallels with church practices. To some, I seemed too "churchy" for hoodoo, and to others, too "hoodoo" for the church—there appeared to be no middle ground. However, I've come to understand that my connection to my ancestors is the cornerstone of my spiritual practice. I've realized that perhaps the reason some individuals struggle to communicate with their spirits is that they try to venerate them through African traditions, tarot, or other methods their ancestors might not recognize.

The Bible, as a potent tool in hoodoo, is not revered because we live by its teachings but because it contains powerful scriptures. My mother, for instance, believed in Jesus, yet she was a practitioner of hoodoo—a tongue-speaking, spirit-conjuring woman. Her approach, which I now embrace, is what I refer to as "Holiness Hoodoo."

So, what does Holiness Hoodoo look like for me?

1. Setting the Atmosphere:

I play inspirational or gospel music that resonates with my specific needs, allowing it to fill my home as I clean, pray, or perform spiritual work. Gospel music serves as a direct conduit to my ancestral spirits, and sometimes, when I hear a song I haven't listened to in a while, an ancestor's presence is assured.

2. Keeping a Bible on the Altar:

While I don't read the Bible frequently, I keep it open to the Psalms as an offering to my spirits. The Bible also serves as a powerful tool of protection, and specific verses and pages can function as talismans and petitions.

3. Baptisms:

Baptism, in my lineage, is a ritual practice to wash ourselves of sins and start anew. It's not just for babies; it can also cleanse generational curses and traumas passed down from parents.

4. Shouting:

Listening to gospel music, I engage in the practice of shouting, a form of ecstatic dance that connects me with my spirits. This practice fills me with light and often results in downloads of ancestral wisdom.

5. Laying of Hands:

I perform the laying of hands, a practice I'll discuss in more detail in the future. It's distinct from Reiki and is a significant part of my spiritual tradition.

6. Fasting:

Fasting is a part of my spiritual practice, serving as a means of both elevating my spiritual consciousness and cleansing my body. I firmly believe that one's health plays a pivotal role in their spiritual journey.

Holiness Hoodoo is about preserving the traditions of our ancestors and finding connections with them. It doesn't rely on dogma or strict religious doctrine; instead, it is a pathway to tap into the wisdom and spirituality that has been passed down through generations. In this practice, there is no room for being "too churchy" or "too hoodoo"—it's about embracing the rich tapestry of our heritage and harnessing it for a profound and authentic spiritual experience.

Mojo Wish Beans also called African Wishing Beans is believed to possess the power to make your wishes come true. In some beliefs they are distributed for luck or carried in a flannel bag to obtain desires.

Buckeye Nut. Gets rid of and turns back all evil, jinxes, or curses placed on you by the devil or your enemies. Brings good luck to you!

This curio is often used for protection both in the home and on your person in a mojo bag.

A Jet Stone has long been carried in real traditional hoodoo, to keep away negative spirits, energy, and vibrations.

Black Tourmaline, known as a grounding stone, is believed to foster a connection between the Earth and the human spirit, aiding in the removal of negative energies within a person or a space. Helps with your work.

Friday: personification of abundance and status. A commanding presence. Building legacy, great manifestors and conjurers, specially for work and finances.

Saturday: guardians of waters and the beyond. Community leaders, gifted healers, divine messengers. Carrying all the wisdom of the Elders and Ancestors.

Sunday: priests and priestesses that defy status quo, very old Ancestors coming back to reshape and rebirth reality. They will enter your life and purge every aspect of it.}

Bakongo spiritual protections influenced African American yard decorations. In Central Africa, Bantu-Kongo people decorated their yards and entrances to doorways with baskets and broken shiny items to protect from evil spirits and thieves.

This practice is the origin of the bottle tree in Hoodoo. Throughout the American South in African American neighborhoods, there are some houses that have bottle trees and baskets placed at entrances to doorways for spiritual protection against conjure and evil spirits.

In addition, nkisi culture influenced jar container magic. An African American man in North Carolina buried a jar under the steps with water and string in it for protection. If someone conjured him the string would turn into a snake. The man interviewed called it inkabera

🖤💀 The Hoodoo Holiday festivities continue! Today we step into the shadow of deep healing work as we continue to welcome, celebrate, & venerate our Dead.

For those who are familiar with Catholicism, All Souls Day is dedicated to "all other loved ones" - non-Saints & those who are not of Elevated status. Thus, today we tend to the shadow work of our lineages; we uplift the Ancestors of our small egun (i.e.: our less than honorable ancestors, who died violently or suddenly, who remain in unrest, who lived hard lives, who endured great suffering, who perpetuated generational curses, who contributed to generational trauma, etc.).

Some differentiate this day from All Saints by focusing solely on small egun Ancestors; those who need elevating, prayer, healing, light, love, karmic debts paid, etc. & are open to receiving it - more akin to Dia De Los Muertos.

Others simply keep yesterday's tradition & festivities going (i.e.: tending to the graves of our Ancestors, communing with our Dead, getting the family together, enjoying leftovers, building family trees, prayer offerings, lighting candles, playing music, singing, dancing, etc.).

Regardless, however you choose to celebrate IS valid! May your Ancestors, - Big & small Egun - continue to be blessed. Ase. 💀🖤

I feel as if materialism takes away from the purpose of practice. You are trained to believe that with more, you can achieve more. That is not the case. Realize that you can achieve your goals within your practice without spending money. When you understand that, you may be interested in studying more and engaging in meaningful practice.

I was watching In Our Mother’s Garden (2021) on Netflix last night and was surprised to see Dr. Zauditu-Selassie cook for and feed the ancestors at around the 1 hour mark in what fits Dr. Brenda Marie Osbey’s description of an authentic voodoo tradition. Dr. Zauditu-Selassie explains her family of creole descent was matrilineal and “believed in Hoodoo,” though she is now a priest of Obatala in the Lucumi tradition. I understand many of the African diasporic religions share commonalities, though distinct, such as feeding the ancestors, but this is probably the closest to an authentic and respectful depiction that exists out there.

Holiness Hoodoo: Speaking in tongues

In my exploration of the question, "Do any other religions practice speaking in tongues?" I arrived at a resounding "NO." More specifically, I discovered that speaking in tongues, or Glossolalia, is primarily native to Pentecostalism. This revelation left me pondering why the internet isn't more updated with information about the practice of speaking in tongues in African Traditional Religions (ATRs), as this practice predates the knowledge of Christ or Pentecostalism.

My curiosity extends to how this practice correlates with spirit possession in other cultures. Speaking in tongues is often seen as a form of being possessed by the Holy Spirit. I wonder how this phenomenon compares to the concept of being "ridden" by the lwa in Vodoun rituals, a practice prevalent in various religious traditions, such as shamanism, Yoruba, Santeria, and Spiritism. In these cultures, spirit possession is not only accepted but viewed as a privilege or a sign of divine favor and great power. The question arises: does it matter if one understands the spoken words, especially when the person speaking has no control over them or doesn't comprehend their meaning?

I shared that I grew up in a Pentecostal environment, where I witnessed numerous instances of tongues speaking, the laying on of hands, Holy Ghost encounters, and more. While I have not been gifted with the ability to speak in tongues myself, my sister has received this "mantle." I acknowledge that it might still be possible for me to receive this gift; it simply hasn't manifested yet.

A striking discrepancy lies between the way the Bible describes speaking in tongues and how it is practiced in the Black church. These two interpretations do not necessarily align. The way in which the Black church practices speaking in tongues could be considered blasphemous by those who do not understand the cultural context.

For instance, 1 Corinthians 14:27-28 (ESV) advises that if anyone speaks in a tongue, there should be only two or at most three speakers, and someone should interpret. If there is no one to interpret, individuals should remain silent in church and speak to themselves and to God. However, I recall watching my mother enter profound trances in church and speak in tongues. She often conveyed familial messages, sometimes from loved ones or ancestors. On occasion, her utterances were messages directly from the Most High. This suggests that, despite our belief that we are communicating solely with the Most High, we may inadvertently be connecting with ancestral spirits.

As previously mentioned in my post about "shouting," Black people approach worship differently, and our cultural influence extends to various religions we encounter. This manner of worship has roots that run deeper than mere survival; it dates back long before the era of colonization. Our unique approach to worship resonates deeply with the source, and we have been able to utilize the Bible to justify our practices.

Acts 2:4 (ESV) states that the disciples were "filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." In the Black church, particularly the ones I attended, deliverance magic, akin to exorcism or the casting out of demons, was prevalent. When witnessing the casting out of a spirit, the individual performing the exorcism would often speak in tongues. My mother would emphasize that she wasn't addressing the person but the spirit.

Mark 16:17 (ESV) further supports this practice, stating that "these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name, they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues."

Despite its significance, many people question those who speak in tongues, doubting the authenticity of their utterances. They may ask, "What are they saying? Can you translate it?" The answer is generally no, as this conversation resembles a language of light—words only decipherable by the person and the spirit. Sometimes, the person speaking in tongues is unaware of the message once they emerge from the trance.

The discourse conducted through speaking in tongues is not meant for everyone's ears. It is a communication meant for specific individuals, often excluding the person speaking. Consequently, I do not advocate listening to or repeating others' tongues or mimicking the practice. The spirit being communicated with may not be in everyone's best interest. Speaking in tongues is a form of spirit communication bestowed upon only a few.

Spiritual Waters.

On this post I wanted to speak on spiritual waters and colognes these products that I've listed are and have use in different spiritual circles. I think some of this products were added later because of the low cost and having a alcohol base, because alcohol in the south has a lot of uses and could cure most is what my grandparents said🤔😄 But enjoy this post.

Holy Water. Can't get must more powerful thin this as a reverend my self I can tell you it works. This water that has been blessed by an Ordained Priest or a member of the clergy or spirituality ordained person. Used for baptism, spiritual cleansing, to bless individuals, places and objects. To bless or dispell it has many uses.

Florida Water. Actually made in New York it was and still is a male cologne. It was used for a scalp cleaner, a foot cleanser. It has multiple uses it was dubbed paranormal. Now used mostly for spiritual properties, like cleansing, or adding to a wash. It's used to feed your gris gris bag (mojo bag) to keep it going, used to feed the spirit because of the alcohol and is oftentimes used in fire rituals (to stat not to burn), in ceremonies and offerings, venerating our ancestors and the dead. It's a good ingredient used in a African spirituality religion like Vodou or Hoodoo.

Peruvian Florida Water. This cologne is widely used by healers for purification, cleansing, healing, and protection. The Peruvian Florida Water has a sweet, and spicy scent. Different from traditional Florida Water. Because of its sweet scent if a good offering to Erzulie Freda.

Rose Cologne is used for peace and love It can be good to use when working or doing any love and attraction work or used as a offering to a spirit or deity of love. It can be sprinkle around the home or add to your mop with water for attraction.

Kolonia 1800 Natural Water. This is a nice alternative to Florida Water. It has a more manly scent to it and a different vibration. Used the same way to get rid of any spell and curses on your love life, sex life, or your luck etc. This Kolonia colone also come in different scents like 1800 Tobacco if one likes to work with native american spirits or ancestral spirits because probably 60 to 70% of people or spiritual practices deal with tobacco in some way. It's good for one self.

Kananga Water Cologne. A African word that it comes from Jamaica. Kananga water is mainly used for purification and for departed ancestors. Also dispel dark energy from a room, purification of one's spirit, energy, and ancestral communication.

Orange Blossom Cologne is good to use when you have a business to help draw customers. Sprinkle outside the front door, before opening.

The Siete Macho. Is used for spiritual and emotional guidance. It is also used to block or to send back and reverse negative energy, evil eye, hexes and curses. It has multiple uses.

Reve d'Or Lotion. Used to put an end to adverse conditions and open the way for luck, love, money, and happiness. This perfume scent is good for Erzulie Dantor.

Pompeia. Used in many spiritual baths and rituals, sometimes used in Vodou for love A good scent for Erzulie Freda.

Hoyt's Cologne. This is another good cologne. Is said that it's traditionally used in conjure and hoodoo. I can't really say of that true traditionally what ever was available alcohol wise was used.

LOTION FEUILLES D'HAITI (SIMBI COLOGNE) if you been reading my blog you know Water is part of the life source, and energies. Water is one of the four elements that Vodou initiates are taught to respect as natural spiritual forces; it covered the earth at the beginning of time, and separates the living from the world of the ancestors.

So I wasted to add this spiritual cologne to the list an original formula, created in Haiti by Monsieur Trouillot. It’s made with Saut d'Eau Water is French for "Waterfall" it stand approximately 100 feet high and is the tallest in Haiti.

It also has natural, select Haitian herbs. "Lotion Feuilles" cologne gets its name from "feuilles" which is French for leaves. These potent leaves are used by Vodouisants for their medicinal & therapeutic benefits.

It can also be added to Good Luck, Prosperity & Blessing Baths - there are so many ways to use this and it smells good.

Now there are a lot of simbi products but to get the waters from that fall make it that much more special.

Sandalwood Water. Is one of these items that was give to Christ. It's good if you do a lot of prayer work. Prayer circles, seances, spiritual baths even for ones self. I like the spiritual washes that has sandalwood, or frankincense and myrrh.

7 African Powers Cologne is a popular one.

Total Solar Eclipse: April 8th, 2024,

This Solar eclipse on April 8th 1:27 pm starting in the state of TX and ending in Main for the U.S packs quite a punch. Places and people where the eclipse is visible will be most impacted, and of course please check houses and personal planets on the axis of Aries and Libra to see where you will be most impacted.

This eclipse is all about initiation regarding major reform surrounding ideas of nationalism and homeplace with a Cancer rising. With Cancer ruling the uterine reproductive system, I wouldn't be surprised if a major theme surrounding reproductive rights was brought to head this eclipse, as well as major conflicts surrounding immigration, borders, and national identity. With the ruler of the ascendant being in Aries, we can expect explosions, harm and destruction to play a major role as well within the overarching theme of this eclipse.

This destructive energy is hoisted up in the 10th house for this eclipse showing that there's going to be a broadcasting of the gory details in a shocking and upsetting way. This eclipse is taking place with a hard conjunction to Chiron, illuminating our collective wounds surrounding war, destruction, and patriarchal ways of being. The aforementioned configuration is square Ceres in Capricorn denoting that this is going to be a time of mass end and brutal climax.

With the ruler of the 10th house and eclipse ruler in the 8th house in Pisces, along with the influence from Ceres, we can expect the reaper to come for major political figures in a jarring and showy way. With the sixth house Ceres placement, and even the eighth house influence, this could be a significant “self-reapping” of a prominent political figure or even a secret taking out of a figure.

Mars is conjunct Saturn by one degree in the 8th house in Pisces, showing that there is a karmic exposure of secrets surrounding shared resources. Pay close attention to taxes during this time particularly institutions that deal with our taxes, as their rear ends will be exposed. Similarly, religious institutions as well are also going to be exposed surrounding practices, ideologies and behind the scenes behavior that's going to create schism and redirection of funds. This is going to come as quite a shock to the world, with Jupiter being conjunct Uranus and the 10th house, it is going to cause a major impact on not only the economy,but the environment. With comet 12P swinging past earth during this time until June 2024 which it only does in its eccentric elliptical orbit every 71 years, we can expect seismic activity, vulcanism, unrest and the fall of empires, how so…medieval, no?

There's going to be a major standoff in the global legal system as well with Ceres square Mars and Saturn, especially regarding crimes done in the dark, under the guise of religion and surrounding death. On a less grand stage, the federal legal system is going to be going through reform and reconsideration. Pay very close attention in particular to legal proceedings surrounding Donald Trump during this time.

The energies of this eclipse are somewhat like the ten of swords, where you hit rock bottom and have no choice but to change. This definitely marks a major pivoting point and a point of diplomatic relations with Venus being in the ninth house conjunct Neptune. Divinity and Destiny is at play here and with the North node in the ninth house, I cannot stress this enough, Creator is involved in the world right now. Destiny has a heavy hand move wisely.

The cards I pulled for this eclipse are as follows: 9 of cups reversed, 5 of cups reversed, 10 of pentacles reversed, 9 of wands.
