Just Another Autumn Morning
{{Drabble}}
The golden fabric of her cape swayed about her calves as she walked the streets, the soft white fur of the neckline grazing the smooth porcelain of her jaw and nearly concealing her ruby lips as a short exhale brought a playful fog, warm breath colliding with the crisp chill of the autumn morning. Just a quick trip to the Mainland, that was all, and now she made her rounds, a woven basket carried in either hand. A warm smile was given to each person she met along the path. Instead of heading straight to the hospital, she passed it by and ventured into the park where the scent of fall flowers and decaying leaves were pleasing to the senses. She did enjoy taking the scenic route.
Her first stop was downtown, that lovely little Black Forest Bakery. Warm scents of baked bread, spice, and sugar simply could not be beat on such a pleasant morning. Entering with a tender smile, she made her first delivery. The basket in her left hand was deposited on the counter, filled with fresh apples from her personal garden. Surely, the talented pastry chefs could put them to good use. In exchange, she happily bought two boxes of pastries for the road and continued on her way. The next stop downtown was the all-too-familiar veterinary office of Stop and Paws. Again, she greeted the front desk with a hearty “Good morning!”, this time leaving the box of newly-acquired baked goods with the receptionist as a thanks for all their hard work and, of course, stopping to say hello to every single bird in the place. Each avian was, as expected, quite happy with their care and she continued her trek downtown. Her path took her into the office of the Phoenix Rises, greeting with another pleasant “Gooooood moooorning~” as she placed the second box of pastries upon the closest desk. “Writing fuel~” she cooed before slipping out the door with a wave.
The final stop was somewhat out of the way, perhaps intentionally on the complete opposite side of the island compared to the hospital, but she did not mind the walk. Again traversing the park, her trajectory took her to the Bohemian district, specifically to that quaint traditional tea shop…but she did not enter through the front, oh no, she wasn’t entering as a customer. Instead, she made the casual detour to the back, sneaking in through the warehouse–but stepping out of her shoes at the door to tip-toe toward the kitchen where she briefly peeked around the corner and, without a word, left the basket on the counter, quickly making her exit as to not disturb the master brewer at work. Her delivery this time not only contained two discs of high-quality aged oolong tea from the Wuyi mountains, but also separate sachets of dried jasmine and rose petals as well as fresh ginger root, all from her personal garden, the handle of the basket decorated with a garland of white chrysanthemums. No greeting or announcement had been given; she just stepped into her shoes and left without a word, sneaking out the back just as she had entered.
Peaceful mornings such as this were pleasant to enjoy, gave her hope for the future, witnessing so many working together for a better tomorrow. Mornings such as this gave her hope, a hope she only wished would spill over to her patients and staff as she returned to the hospital. A quick change of shoes, cloak of gold becoming a coat of white, she fastened her hair with her customary peach blossom twig and made her way to her office–yet the moment she entered the hall, Director Xi was met by her assistant who passed her an iPad with an itinerary for the day which the doctor breezed through while listening to her assistant speak of the most pertinent and pressing tasks.

I like to imagine that if any of the Bat-Kids are out in public, whether they be getting food, shopping, patrolling, just walkin' around, whatever, that if they see the Bat-Signal pop on it's an unspoken rule between the siblings that they have to throw on their costume and try and find/deal with the trouble before Bruce gets there. Just to annoy him.
Batman: "Commissioner Gordon! I got here as fast as I could.. What's the situation?"
Commissioner Gordon: "Oh, Batman, thank you for coming.. It's alright, though, it's already been taken care of by these fellows."
*Gestures to the side where there's a couple of muggers sitting tied up next to Nightwing(He has pink, glittery shopping bags hanging all over his arms), Red Hood(He's rummaging through the bags Nightwing is holding, trying to find the black nail polish he just bought to touch up his nails after the fight), Red Robin(He's sipping a cup of coffee that he accidentally stole because he ran out of the cafe so quickly that he forgot to pay), and Robin(He's chowing down on a kids' meal from Bat-Burger)*
Batman: ...
Batman: *Subtle annoyed glare*
