#ZUKO MY SWEET BABY

One of the many things that had me sobbing in the show is how they made Zuko’s fleet the 41st division. Meaning the division he spoke up for, the division that earned him his scar, is the division he was assigned for his goose chase. Imagine how heartbreaking it is. AND THE TEAM DIDNT EVEN KNOW HE DID THAT FOR THEM. MY BOY WAS ALWAYS GOOD!!!

Okay can we please have a post where we just completely go OFF about how they tried to make Aang out to be a bad father???? LIKE ARE YOU FR RN????
One of the many things I can’t fucking stand about Korra is that they tried to make Aang out to be an absent husband and a bad father to all of them but tenzin. And was super hard on tenzin.
Excuse me? Aang in the ATLA series clearly remembers the importance of peace and love between his relationship with the Air Nomads and with his friends/family. And how badly he tries to avoid any type of harshness or fear not just throughout his own training but within his family group as well.
AND YOU HONESTLY GOING TO COME AT ME TELLING ME HE WAS A BAD DAD AND WASN’T THERE FOR KATARA??? Boi gave up going into the avatar state and loosing that entire part of himself just because he THOUGHT she was in danger. He hated ever leaving her side.
I have so much anger about this I need a rage room for two hours where I just scream facts about Aang and break stuff with a sledgehammer at the same time.
LIKE LOOK AT HIM. YOU LOOK AT HIM AND YOU'RE GOING TO TELL ME THAT IM WRONG?!?! HE CAME OUT OF AN ICEBERG AND INSTANTLY FELL IN-LOVE AND WANTED TO PLAY, DAWG. GROW UP BRO

Hi, this is my beautiful cat zuko. I made a post a week ago about him and his health issues that he was facing. I want to say thank you to everyone, EVERYONE, who donated and shared and overall supported zuko. I’m seriously incredibly grateful. Unfortunately, his kidneys did not respond to the aggressive treatments. I was given the horrible news that I should put him to sleep. On Tuesday January 9th, my sweet baby went away peacefully . I was horribly devastated and incredibly upset. I still very am. But his life was filled with joy and he lived the most comfortable life, and that I should be more than happy about. Thank you, seriously thank you a million times for your guys support. I don’t know what I would have done without it. Thank you❤️

Hi , i don’t know if u do hcs but what headcannons would u have for firelord zuko regarding kinks?
I do HCs just not that much, I'll do headcnaons every time I feel lazy or too busy with uni work. But yes I do have headcanons for Zuko's kinks, although are they just my kinks, the world will never know
Tumblr media
He definitely has a breeding kink in my mind. And quite specifically a breeding his heirs into you kink.
Probably doesn't always talk about it, but when you beg him to fill you up, he can't help but tell you to give him an heir, to get all full with his baby.
The thought of having you swollen with the crown prince or princess to the Fire Nation is so arousing to him.
He also has a thing for titles, but not you calling him titles, but him calling you titles.
Despite the fact that he's technically higher status, even when you're his consort, he's still gonna call you by your title
"My sweet boy, your highness, my lord" (as he's fucking you)
Stuff like that.
Semi public sex is his thing too
Having sex on his throne, bouncing you up and down on his cock while he sits on his throne is so hot.
Knowing anyone could walk through the curtained entrance to the throne room
And he has also had some dirty fantasies about actually public sex, claiming you in a war meeting, maybe one of the generals flirts with you so he just fucks you in front of them
And of course a temperature play kink. He's gonna heat his hands up just enough to excite you and push his fingers into you

them :) dino refs finally complete, so now i can make all the joke comics i want
design thoughts under the cut
aang- second hardest design to ge through. at first i couldn't decide on a species, and then i couldn't get the colors to work. believe it or not, bright yellow right next to bright blue is painful to look at. so instead i opted for an all orange color pallette. does he look like a candy corn? yes. and we love him for it. puny lil candy corn avatar
katara- sweet baby so easy, love her, perfect design, no tears shed except for joy. also GIGANTIC. non negotiable part of her design tbh. and aquatic dino!! spinosaurus was the only choice. the sail is meant to look like her necklace! isnt that cool. im so cool and talented.
sokka- nanuqsaurus is! maybe a cold weather dino. possibly. so we did that. he's smaller than his sister and he's mad about it :) also, him face is warriors paint!! and i know that atla water tribes didn't really have anything to do with orcas, but I love orcas and i wanted to give sokka some recognizably hunter-y pattern. so, orca white markings.
toPH- i am ENDLESSLY SUGFERING. do you know how many times i flip flopped on toph's species. do you understand how many hours i spent debating over the benefits of triceratops vs protoceratops?? ankylosaurus vs. pachysephalosaurus???? my agony is unending. im still unsure. sacrificing the concept that toph could take down a t rex (trike) for the small n unassuming character theme (proto). also the badgermole looking markings are cool i guess
zuko- this is where you pretend that im bot playing favorites when it comes to dino species. why is he a deinonychus? cuz i like big raptors, that's why. go away. dont look at me. he's cute. he looks like a bird and i love that for him. also something something aang and zuko similar species that specialize differently based on how their environments changed them, zuko an echo of the potential of flight and aang an echo of the potential to hunt. flock bird vs pack hunter. same but different.
height chart:
Tumblr media
i really cant say if it's accurate at all to the real dinos, but i was lazy and didnt want to do math, so it's just eyeballed heights. the important part is that we understand how tiny aang is and how massive katara is

A/N: normalize blaming the world’s problems on long feng and captain chhay…public enemies numba one and two !! (blaming the fact that i lowkey hate this chapter on them too ngl)
Tumblr media
“Well done, Chhay,” Long Feng said. “As soon as I am named regent, I will appoint you as the captain of the Dai Li. If you agree to keep doing my bidding, I will ensure that your salary is enough to fund all your luxuries.”
“I would’ve followed your commands no matter the compensation,” the young Earthbender said. Chhay had only just joined the Dai Li, and yet he had been singled out by Grand Secretariat Long Feng already, identified as a remarkable talent. Just for the recognition alone, he would’ve done anything. Extra pay was an additional benefit — certainly, he and his wife could use it, so he would not complain.
“It’s for that reason that I’ve selected you, Chhay,” Long Feng said. “It’s for that reason that I trusted only you to kill the king. And it’s the same reason why I’m approaching you with another job.”
“Whatever you ask, sir,” Chhay said. “You only need to say the words, and I will do it.”
“This request is a little more abhorrent,” Long Feng said. “I need you to kill a pregnant woman. Can you handle it?”
Chhay thought about his own wife, whose stomach was just beginning to swell with the beginnings of a child, and then he nodded. As long as it was not her, what did it matter to him?
“I’ll do it,” he said. “It’s as I promised. You’ll find no supporter more loyal, Long Feng. When you are regent, you will serve with me as your right hand.”
Chhay made his way down the hallway, balancing a cup of milk in his hands as he approached the royal chambers. The servants scuttled out of his way when they saw him; no one questioned his presence, even though it was out of the ordinary for him to be visiting the area. He was a Dai Li agent. He could do as he pleased without fear of retribution or questioning.
Her second pregnancy had been harder on the queen than her first, or perhaps it was the recent loss of her husband that had left her in this state. Either way, she was a depressing sight, sallow and worn, her cheeks sunken and eyes like pits, though she managed to smile at Chhay when he entered her room. He did not return it.
“Thank you,” she said, accepting the glass and holding it in thin, shaking hands. “I didn’t realize that you Dai Li were the considerate sort.”
“We do what we can,” he said. “Anything for her royal majesty, the Queen Regent of the Earth Kingdom.”
She took a sip of the milk, which he had warmed and stirred sugar into. Her nose wrinkled, for she obviously found the drink far too sweet for her tastes, but it was as Long Feng had predicted — she was far too polite to stop drinking it, far too well-mannered and high-born to ever do something as rude as rejecting his gift.
“The baby will be born soon,” the queen said. “Tomorrow or the day after, perhaps.”
“Hm,” Chhay said, not finding any particular interest in the conversation but needing to stay until she had finished and he could take the cup back with him.
“My husband wanted it to be a girl,” she continued. “He made sure to tell everyone he encountered about the news. But you’re new, aren’t you? So you likely didn’t hear him. Oh, he was so excited that we were going to have another baby. He would lay his cheek against my stomach for hours at a time, talking to her — he was convinced it was going to be a girl, you see, he even had her name picked out and everything — telling her how she’d be the most loved girl in the entire Earth Kingdom. He promised that as long as he was there — as long as he was there, she’d never want for anything. He’d take care of her no matter what. Even though he never met her, he loved her so much, to the point that Kuei got jealous of how his father spent all of his time waiting for an unborn baby to kick so that he could feel like she heard him. That's why they went to the zoo together, he hated seeing Kuei so upset, but then…”
She broke down into tears, covering her mouth with her hands and rocking back and forth on the bed as sobs wracked her body. Chhay watched her, waiting for her to compose herself. It took her a second, but eventually, she did so, taking deep, crackling breaths before finishing off the last of the milk and handing it back to Chhay.
“Thank you again,” she said. “I’m sorry for burdening you with all of that. Please be well. If you have a wife, remember to tell her you love her.”
“I will do that,” he said, leaving the queen to continue sobbing alone in the chambers she had once shared with the king. The door shut behind him with a note of finality, and he trained his gaze on the pewter bottom of the cup so that he did not have to look up.
It was fine. Long Feng said that nothing would happen to the child. It was that kind of poison which he had fed to the queen, a rare one that worked in peculiar ways, and so he had no reason to feel guilty. He hadn’t killed an innocent baby. He hadn’t killed anyone innocent at all. He had only done what the Grand Secretariat demanded him too.
The very next day, the queen fell sick. The best physicians in the kingdom were called to look at her, but none of them could discern what the matter was. She held on admirably, he had to admit, struggling to live for just long enough that she could be certain her child would survive.
She died the minute the young Princess Y/N was set in her arms. Chhay had been there, though he had hidden to watch her final moments, employing every bit of his Dai Li training to avoid detection.
“A girl,” the queen whispered, too weak to do anything but let the baby rest against her breast, her arms arranged around her daughter by one of the doctor’s. “So beautiful. You look just like him…”
The baby began to wail as she was abruptly ripped away from her mother, a wet nurse doing her best to soothe the girl. It was futile, though; she continued to cry and cry, as if she understood that the circumstances of her birth had been unfair, as if she could not bear to live without shrieking her frustrations to the world.
There was only one moment when she was silent, and it was when she locked eyes with Chhay. He thought he had been so well-concealed, but there was no doubt about it: Princess Y/N saw through him. Still wet with birthing fluid though she was, he nonetheless felt that, for just that one instant, he was staring at someone who knew what he had done and was judging him for it.
“Quynh!” you shouted breathlessly as you ran into the Den. She was awake immediately, her great head rising as she regarded your countenance. Her nose twitched, and then her eyes widened and she growled.
“Why is there blood on you, Y/N?” she said. “Were you attacked? Are you hurt? Who was it? Why did no guards step in to protect you?”
“No,” you said. “No, Quynh, I was the attacker. I’m the one who hurt someone else. I killed someone.”
“What?” she said.
“Captain Chhay of the Dai Li,” you said. “He’s the one who killed my father, as well as the assassin who came for me while I was in Ba Sing Se. He and Long Feng have been conspiring against my family for who knows how long! I was caught in Ba Sing Se, so Long Feng assigned Chhay to be my guard, but I knew that if I dared to sleep in front of him, it might be my final act. I pretended I had had a nightmare to lure him closer and catch him off-guard, and then I — I — I killed him.”
The magnitude of the act was starting to sink in, and your vision swam the longer you stared at the rust staining your palms. Wiping it off on your dress was futile; though your skin was clean, you were not. You had killed a man.
“Shh, it’s alright,” Quynh said, quick to pick up on your every shift in mood. “It’s alright, Y/N.”
“What have I done?” you said. “I killed him! I killed a person! What does that make me?”
“You did what you had to,” she said. “What would have become of you if you did not? What would have become of Kuei?”
“He must’ve had people who cared for him,” you said, pacing back and forth, rubbing your hands against your skirt. “There must be people who will wonder why he hasn’t come home. Even Chin the Conqueror was someone’s son; doesn’t that mean Captain Chhay was, too? And I killed him.”
“But weren’t you someone’s daughter?” Quynh said. “Until he stole that from you, that is? As you said, he killed your father. He is directly the reason why you have suffered so greatly, why Ba Sing Se has suffered so greatly.”
“I still ended his life,” you said. “Doesn’t that mean I’m a monster?”
“No,” Quynh said. “You cannot be faulted, princess. Understand this now, and understand it well: if you want to save your kingdom, then this will not be the last time you kill. In order to ensure peace, you must mete out death in equal measure. How many men do you think I have torn apart with my claws? More than you can count. More men than years I have lived. If I allowed myself to be lost in regrets, then I would be paralyzed with doubts or dead from indecision. The truth is that if a person threatens me or the people I love, then I cannot allow them to exist. It must be the same for you.”
Captain Chhay had killed your father. Captain Chhay would’ve killed you. He would’ve killed your brother, the only family you had left, the only person in the entire world who you were certain loved you as much as you loved him.
“I could not allow him to exist,” you repeated, the conviction chipping away at your lingering doubts. “When he was so set on my family’s destruction, I could not allow him to exist.”
“That’s right,” she said.
“But I don’t want to be like that,” you said. “I don’t want to kill the people I’m responsible for protecting. I don’t want to kill more men than I can count.”
“You needn’t,” she said. “Sometimes, though, it cannot be helped. I am not telling you to kill senselessly, without reason or justification. All I am saying is that if you must do it, then do not linger on it.”
Quynh was a spirit, and one born of Father Glowworm’s powers to boot. Her morality was tainted by the immense time she had lived and the malevolent source of her power. What did it matter to her if a man died now or in twenty years, when to her, those twenty years would pass in the blink of an eye?
“I will do what I must,” you said. “For my people. For the Earth Kingdom, and also for its king. Yet I do not think I can ever forget how it makes me feel. I do not think I will ever stop wishing I did not have to do it.”
“If you did forget, then you would cease to be yourself,” she said. “I do not want that for you.”
She was right. If you became the kind of person that killed without thought, that murdered without care for the consequences of those actions, then you would no longer be Princess Y/N. You would be another girl entirely, and the very thought made you shudder.
So you would kill, if that was what the situation demanded. If it meant protecting yourself, your home, your brother, or whatever else you deemed to be of import, then you would kill again, as you had tonight. Of course, it was not a decision which was lightly made, but one which was necessary. It was one that only you could make — you, the princess, the bender, the girl who cared for her subjects more than anyone.
“I have to go,” you said. “At any moment, they’re going to find Captain Chhay’s body and realize I’m gone, and I have to be far away by then.”
“Where will you go?” Quynh said.
“Ba Sing Se,” you said. “I have to go back. There’s things I have to do in the city. A person I have to explain things to — after all, I might not ever see him again, not if things go the way I need them to. And then, after that, there’s another person whose help I require, and I must go to him and ask him for it directly.”
It seemed counterintuitive, but the truth was there was no time safer to go to Ba Sing Se than now. Nobody would dare to be seen on the streets, not in the wake of the Dai Li’s brutal suppression of the earlier riot, and you had until the morning before Captain Chhay’s body was discovered. The night was yours to do with as you pleased, and you had to take as much advantage of it as you could before the sun rose and you were once again hunted by Long Feng and the Dai Li.
“You’re risking your life to explain things?” Quynh said. “You’ve already been caught once and already been nearly killed numerous times. Who is so deserving of an explanation that you will go to them in spite of that?”
“You know already,” you said. “But as I said, it’s not just him. The only way I can help Kuei in any way that matters is if you let me do this. I’m aware of the danger. I’m frightened beyond belief. But I have to do it.”
“It’s foolhardy,” she said.
“Yes,” you said.
“You’re drunk on the rush of victory,” she said. “You might’ve been able to catch Captain Chhay by surprise, but do you think you could face the Dai Li if they swarmed you?”
“I don’t know,” you said truthfully. “Perhaps not.”
“Reckless girl. Rash girl. Why must you be so similar to your father? Why do you never listen to those who advise you?” she said. You startled when you saw that she was weeping as she spoke.
Even though Quynh had never met your father, she had known him, as she knew all of those who were descended from Shan. She had loved him, too, loved every one of your family’s members as her children, and she had told you once that she could feel all of your deaths as stabs in the heart. She had felt his death like a stab in the heart.
“The Earth Kingdom was doing alright when my father was its ruler, wasn’t it?” you said. “Maybe things weren’t perfect, but they were okay. Being compared to him isn’t the worst thing.”
It was the grief that naturally accompanied vengeance. Your father’s killer was finally dead, but that didn’t mean your father was coming back. He would never come back. Your father was gone, and it was for that reason that Quynh was crying as she opened the door to Ba Sing Se.
“Thank you,” you said, and then, because you were overwhelmed with a bout of emotion from seeing her weep, you said, “I love you, Quynh.”
“I love you, too,” she said. “Go, before you are out of time and Long Feng finds you again.”
You shoved aside your misgivings and began to run as fast as you could down the passageway she opened for you. There was not a second to waste, and so you sprinted at top speed, praying you’d reach him in time, praying he didn’t hate you now that he knew who you really were. He couldn’t, right? After all, he had protected you during the riot. He had found out then who you were, and he had still protected you.
The door deposited you by the fountain, but you did not linger there as you once might’ve. Bowing your head and hunching your shoulders, you scurried down the street, staying in the shadows, though there was no real reason to fret. All of the houses had their doors and windows tightly shut, and the few stores which hadn’t been destroyed in the riot had long since closed for the night. If there was anyone left in the city who could recognize you, they were nowhere to be found.
You reached the tea shop in record time. Recalling that they lived in the apartment above the store, you looked around, trying to figure out where the door was. After all, the tea house itself was locked, and you weren’t about to break in, so you had to find an alternate method of entering that wasn’t the staircase you knew was located by the kitchen.
When your search proved fruitless, you took off one of your shoes, winding your arm back and aiming at the window. It was the only way you knew how to get his attention; however, there was an off-chance that the window was actually his uncle’s, which would be unfortunate. You wavered, suddenly doubting yourself and your methods, though of course you were limited in the scope of what you could do.
You had just about made up your mind to go ahead and throw the shoe anyways and hope that it was the right window, but that second of hesitation was all it took for an arm to wrap around your waist and a hand to cover your mouth, yanking you alongside your invisible assailant as they ran into the alleyways of the Lower Ring. Out of reflex, you screamed, but it was muffled by the attacker’s gloved palm, and though you struggled against their grip, you were not successful in breaking free.
Had the Dai Li found you again? Was Long Feng aware that you were missing? What had they thought of Captain Chhay’s death? What would they do to you now? If you had already proven too wild for a guard, then what fate was left for you — prison? Execution? Assassination? Obviously, that wasn’t something they were above. Would you face the same fate as your father after all?
You had just resolved to bend glass again when you realized that you weren’t heading towards the palace. Instead, the mysterious person had veered down a road that led towards a place you held familiar and dear: the fountain. The fountain! Did they want to kill you somewhere you had been happy? Were the Dai Li interested in poetry and theater to that extent? Because it felt more like a story than anything.
But when you emerged into the firelight of the deserted fountain, you realized that the person who had dragged you all of this way wasn’t a Dai Li agent. It was someone else, someone far more agreeable if not unexpected, and so, as you reached the fountain’s edge and he slowed his pace, you began to cry.
He stopped in his tracks, obviously alarmed by the development, but then he took in your appearance, and though he wore a mask, it was clear that he was horrified by what he saw. Bloody handprints on your nightgown, splashes of the same on your shins, possessed with only one slipper…you must’ve seemed like an entirely different person than the girl he had come to know.
“You scared me,” you hiccuped. “I thought you were the Dai Li. I thought you were going to kill me. Why did you do that? I’ve been so frightened all day, and you only made it — I’ve been so — I thought—”
Your stomach threatened to turn itself inside out as you sobbed, your fingers digging into his back, your tears soaking through his shirt as the world crashed down around you. You had almost died. You had almost died. You had almost died.
“I can’t stay for long,” you said, contradicting the way you could not bring yourself to let go. “I can’t stay for long at all. I’m in danger, and by being in danger, I am putting you in danger, too. I shouldn’t even have come in the first place, but I wanted — that tea shop idiot. I wanted to see him again.”
The Blue Spirit was gentle when he held you, unlike the last time he had tried to comfort you. He was like a wall, something solid that refused to move even as everything else was ruined around it. It was only by leaning on that wall that you could manage to keep yourself together, and so, despite Quynh’s warning, despite how the minutes dragged on, you did not pull away.
“After tonight, I might not ever see you again,” you said. “There’s a chance this’ll be the last time. I don’t know what’s going to happen. To me. To Ba Sing Se. Any of it. Tomorrow’s sunrise could be the last one I witness.”
The Blue Spirit held your face in his hands, cradling it like a glass sculpture, and there were so many things you still had left to say to him. A thousand things. A million things. Or, if you thought about it, really only one thing.
“Please,” you said. “Let me see your face. If this is the last time, then let us meet truly. Let me understand who you really are.”
You weren’t sure what you were hoping to see. Maybe you weren’t hoping to see anything at all. You just wanted to know. Once and for all, you wanted to know. The man who had given you jasmine flowers. The man who had run with you on moonlit rooftops. The man who had saved your life. Who was he really?
He ducked his head towards you, and you raised your trembling hands to untie his mask, your fingers fumbling with the carefully bound knot until it was finally unwound, pushing his hood back off of his dark, shaggy hair, revealing his face to you for the first time.
No. Not for the first time. It was a face you knew so well, for you had spent so long admiring it. Eyes like gold. Extraordinary features, fine and strong in equal parts. And, most notably, a large burn scar on the left half of his face, which you placed your hand against.
“Lee,” you whispered. “It’s you. It’s been you this entire time.”
Quynh had been right, though she had not recognized the extent of it when she had said it. You had always known. There had never been a dilemma, because they were one and the same. The person who saved your life. The person who made it worth living. They were the same.
“You — you say that you understand, but do you accept it?” he said, voice breaking. He was quoting The Mask of the Blue Spirit, you realized, and unbidden, a lump formed in your throat. He was afraid, and so he was asking the same question that the titular character asked Jin. “Now that you have seen how hideous my true visage is, what will you do?”
You tossed the mask to the ground and pushed the hand resting on his scar back, so that it could instead make its home tangled in his hair. Reaching up with the awkward inexperience that came from your many years of solitude, you pressed your lips against his own in a soft kiss.
It was brief. Flitting. Like spun sugar on your tongue, you barely tasted him for a moment before he was pulling back, searching your eyes with his own, disbelief etched on his expression. You allowed yourself to smile at him until tentatively, he smiled back. It transformed his face, that smile, turning it kind and filling it with light.
“Why did you wear a mask?” you said. “Why didn’t you tell me who you were?”
“At first, it was an accident. I used the disguise to steal jasmine flowers for my uncle from a nearby abandoned garden, and that’s where I saw you that first time. But after that…it was because I thought that who I was was someone you wouldn’t like knowing,” he said.
“How could you think that?” you said. This time when you embraced him, your cheek lay against his own instead of the cool material of his mask, and the rise and fall of his body felt natural instead of mechanical.
“I just didn’t want to lose the — the way you made me feel,” he confessed against the skin of your shoulder. “No matter what, I couldn’t lose that.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you noticed that the horizon was beginning to lighten. The sun was beginning its steady ascent, and soon it would be in the sky in earnest. You had to leave now to have any hope of making it to the Upper Ring before the rest of the world awoke, but it wasn’t fair. You needed more time. You needed an entire lifetime with him. How could you lose him so soon after finding him?
“I can’t stay,” you said. “I can’t stay any longer.”
“Don’t go,” he said. “Anyone that comes for you, we can deal with. Stay here and let them try; they will find themselves on the wrong end of my swords.”
“I won’t do that to you,” you said. “I won’t make you fight my battles any longer.”
“Then promise this won’t be the last time I’ll see you,” he said. “Promise that you’ll tell me what happened to you in the palace and why you are in this state. Promise that we will meet again.”
You kissed him once more, and this time, he did not draw away but kissed you back with equal fervor, his mouth hot and searing against yours, burning his desperation, his anger, his sorrow, into you. And this time, it was you who pulled away, pressing your forehead against his, clutching the fabric of his shirt to stabilize yourself.
“I don’t know if I will be able to come to Ba Sing Se again. Not in the daylight, and certainly not for a while,” you said. “But there is a way.”
“What is it?” he said, stroking your cheeks, your hair, your neck and your back, every part of you that he could conceivably reach. “What other way?”
“You can come to the palace,” you said. “You can come see me.”
“They’ll never let me in,” he said.
“They don’t need to,” you said. “There is another entrance. One that only you can find.”
“Quynh’s Door?” he said, his voice ticking up with uncertainty.
“Yes,” you said. “Quynh’s Door. You are loved by someone of Shan’s line, Lee. You can come and go to the palace as you please.”
“I’ll come,” he said, and there was no uncertainty remaining in his voice when he did so. “I swear I will.”
“Good,” you said. “I’ll be waiting. I swear I will be.”
By the time the sun peeked out over the rooftops and people re-emerged to go about their daily lives, you and Lee were both long gone.

Anyone saying the live adaptation of ATLA was bad, does not remember the series well and/or does not understand how adaptation from cartoon to live action has to function. Is it identical to the original? No. Should it be? No. It's called adaptation not remake/remaster, dummies. I loved shifting more of the Zuko/Iroh relationship earlier and to the forefront. Y'all do not remember Iroh well from season 1. His ass got a whole retcon/rewrite to gloss over the very anime trope of "gluttonous pervy old man" to "talented and emotional statesman who is playing a role". THAT is this Iroh, just from the start.
Is the series "darker"? Yes. Is it ANY different from the darkness of the original? Nope, we just freak out watching real people burn to death. Because yeah a FUCKTON of people burned to death and most of the characters are orphaned, lost one parent, or were traumatized by their parents (or all three Zuko you over achiever). If you just now realized that or disagree, go rewatch the series. The message was always "the world is bleak but the youth will always fight for a better one, so we should listen and help them". In what way was that altered?
Oh you didn't get to see the canyon crawlers or elephant seal riding?? Ooooh poor baby, you miss the filler arcs. Yup, they were fun episodes, but they were very much episodes about teaching little kids morality. That's not this show. It is clearly geared towards an older audience. I am rewatching the ATLA cartoon and I skimmed most of season one, watching it but doing other stuff, because it was a bunch of filler. And the live action literally name drops that those things happen!!!! They just do not have the time or inclination to make a shot-for-shot live action remake. Because that's not what this is. Again, ADAPTATION.
It is more blatant about the message now, and somehow y'all still missed it. It added more lore from the books, cooler fights, more spirit world, more relationship movement. All the things from the original, just moved up a season. Which, my sweet ding dongs, will mean MORE OF THE SEASON 2 AND 3 CAN BE DONE SHOT FOR SHOT. Starting emotional arcs sooner rather than later could mean we get more later, when there is less filler! We could get the swamp benders episode in full. We could get the entire wrestling match. Hama. Boiling Rock. EMBER ISLAND PLAYERS. We could get everything! Yeah I could be wrong, but I could be right. And isn't the god damn Jeezy creezy point of the show that it's not all bad? To find the good?
In closing, any adaptation that gives me this June, Azula, Kyoshi, and the hottest tribe ever (how is everyone on the water tribe so attractive?!?!?) is not bad in my eyes. The acting was great, bending was sick, writing was solid as the original (y'all don't remember how corny and dramatic the show was so you? EIP were there for a reason). Give this an honest chance. It's not the original, but it shouldn't be. Because we already have that, we don't need another.

Update :)
It's funny how it's been such a long time since I've posted here, yet it still feels like home—hello, loves~!
It goes without saying that I owe an explanation as to why I disappeared from the face of the Earth for so long.
The last time I was able to truly connect with you was when my family and I caught Covid (great times, let me tell you) - after that, I totally disappeared, and as much as I would love to say it was for good and positive reasons, to be very blunt and straight to the point, it wasn't.
For those sensitive to the topics of illness and mental health, skip to the image of a giant cat for the good news!
Once again, as everyone knows, my whole family got COVID-19. While my Mom, Dad, and I weren't too hot, we were functioning. But my husband was really struggling. And when weeks passed, and his health started to get worse and worse, we realized that this was something more than just COVID-19.
My husband is hesitant to provide full details about what occurred, primarily because it's still a recent event and something he's currently grappling with. Still, my husband went from being a healthy, physically active person to being bedridden.
It was a really hard time for everyone because my husband is like the sun. All smiles and outgoing - to suddenly unable to eat or hold down food, needing help with showering and to be very blunt, depressed and suicidal because he lost everything due to this sickness.
Unfortunately, cancer runs in his family, and while he got tested multiple times and came back negative (yay!), he is still not out of the dark. He has done numerous surgeries in hopes of getting better (his most recent this January), and at this time, his last resort is getting a colostomy bag. He is currently undergoing some experimental treatments because doctors don't want to do the surgery based on his age.
It goes without saying why I haven't been posting and updating anything. There's been a lot going on, and I want to be on his side as much as possible.
But there is some good news!
Tumblr media
I am mainly posting this message because he has improved greatly these past few weeks and is now in a much better physical and mental state. Seeing him get his feet back on the ground has given me the confidence to resume writing.
I have never stopped writing, but I have stopped publicly posting my writing mainly because I didn't have the time to sit down and properly edit.
My friends behind the scenes have been real stars. They have kept me going and encouraged me to keep writing.
I aim to post small works and drabbles until I feel confident enough to finish my biggest baby, Limerence.
To all those messages saying you missed Yue and Zuko, they're back - sorry, not sorry.
Thank you to everyone who has written messages to me. Trust me when I say I read them all, and I truly appreciate them. It meant a lot to get them and read them when I was not active because there were a few dark moments during my time away with everything going on, and honestly, it made me really happy. While I could never express my thanks in enough words, please know I greatly valued it.
I wanted to keep this short and sweet, but as we know, I am not known for short things (I try I swear askdjahjhksdj)😅
Thank you, and I wish everyone a fabulous day with tons of hugs and kisses.
I can't wait to write to you all soon~ ❤️

Tumblr media
you stood at the balcony. just taking it all in. with your boyfriend becoming the new fire lord and all, you haven’t seen him much lately.
you missed him. like crazy.
he never liked it when you waited up for him, but that’s exactly what you did. you sat on his bed, your back against the headboard. your eyes closing every now and then, with you forcing them open every time. you wouldn’t allow yourself to fall asleep before he got home. and when he did, he called out for you
“y/n?”
his voice called out. your eyes immediately open, the corners of your lips curling up into a smile “zuko, your home” you say as he takes his jacket off, hanging it up and taking his shoes off, putting them to the side before he comes over to you.
“you waited up for me? it’s late, baby”
his voice was like honey. and his face looked tired. his eyes decorated with dark circles, though they aren’t much of a decoration they were beautiful (to u that is). his soft, warm hand made its way up to your cheek, cupping it. “missed u while you were gone”
you half-assed your words, making your voice sound tired (which you were). he smiled a bit at this, finding you cute. before changing into something he could sleep in and making his way under the covers and patting the spot next to him. “cmere” he said. his arms open, waiting for your presence to fill them. and when you layed down next to him, his arm wrapped around your waist.
he was on his side, facing you. his arm around your waist and your arm on his chest, you also on your side. the way he looked at you made you nervous. it was a look of pure love. he adored you with all his heart, and it showed. his honey-colored eyes and long eyelashes just beautiful.
with his arm on your back, his warmth engulfed your body. his firebending warming up your body, which was always cold. you unconsciously scooted closer, snuggling closer to the man you claimed. you closed your eyes, relaxing completely. he watched you do so, smiling at you. he was always sweet with you. you always kept moments like these closest to your heart.
it was just perfect.
he was all yours, and you were all his.

My younger cousin (16) watched tlok season 3 for the first time. Here's her opinion of the characters
Korra: "is it bad that she got more attractive to me when she was suffering?" Me: "idk, maybe?" Her: "... i'll talk abt it in therapy don't worry"
Asami: "i'm so confused is there something between her and Korra???" Me: "you know i'm not gonna tell you" Her: "yeah i hate it when you do that."
Mako: "alright he got more tolerable this season i'll give you that"
Bolin: "and he got worse. So sorry" Me: "but the lavabending?" Her: oh yeah that was cool. He still sucks tho"
Tenzin: "now THAT is Aang's son right there. That shit was bad-fucking-ass."
Bumi: "again, now THAT is Aang's son. THOSE are his children. Not the shitty adults we saw last season"
Kya: "a lesbian?" Me: "doesn't get confirmed til the comics" Her: "oh for FUCKS SAKE"
Jinora: "i love her i cherish her she's the smartest and most powerful character in this show she beats everyone else"
Kai: "he reminds me too much of my brother and i don't like that"
Ikki & meelo: "they're still annoying i'm so sorry"
Lin Beifong: "she needs therapy"
Suyin Beifong: "of all the characters i expected, i didn't think Toph would get the messiest. Like not one but TWO baby daddies? Man. Suyin is cool as hell tho but she does give awkward soccer mom vibes"
Opal: "does she have more personality other than 'sweet cute girl for bolin to bang?'"
Zaheer: "best villain this universe ever produced only for him te become absolutely pathetic in the end bc bolin pushed a sock into his mouth. They should have kept him stoic and scary. He was so cool until that exact moment and they HAD to have a dumb bolin one liner. I'm so mad about this if you couldn't tell"
P'li: "sparky sparky boom WOMAN. A win for feminism."
Ming Hua: "i still think young Katara would beat her in a fight and i'd pay good money to see it."
Ghazan: "i have a rlly good joke about him" Me: "ok shoot" Her: "he's mista Lava Lava" *burts out laughing*
Lord Zuko: "ngl i screamed when i saw him on screen maybe i do like his character"
Varrick & Zhu Li: "HOW MANY CHARACTERS ARE IN THIS SEASON JESUS" Me: "and we haven't even gone over the president yet" Her: "oh my GOD"

🐉 part 9
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8
TW: Blood,
Tumblr media
You watched as carriages were filled with chests of different sizes,"Everything is nearly ready" Zuko said from behind you, he was dressed in casual clothes, something which you hadn't seen him in for a while,"Nervous?", he chuckled and nodded,"We are getting married so yeah and it's only our first ceremony as well" you smiled and walked towards him,"Thank you for agreeing to do this" you smiled placing your head on his chest, Zuko wrapped his arms around you and kissed the top of your head,"It's part of your culture, I don't want you to lose that part of you just because you are marrying into mine" he said,"Will you be taking Haku or taking the boat with us?" he asked after a while,"I be taking the boat, Haku will be flying alongside us" you said pulling away from him,"You also be delighted to hear, that plan for a dragon pit is set in motion" your eyes lit up at the comment,"A couple of fire nation architecture's and builder will join us so they can inscept the pit themselves" you smiled widely and hugged Zuko again,"Thank you again" you smiled and kissed his cheek.
Haku was flying in the air peacefully, Zuko looked up at him before looking at the red egg still unhatched, he sighed and closed the lid of the stone container,"It will hatch don't worry" you smiled rubbing his back,"Teach me Valyrian" he said making you lift a brow,"You want to learn Valyrian" you said happily,"Yes, it's beautiful, mostly when you speak it" he said making your cheeks darken slightly,"Nyke krenyikhé bodmagho ao ñuha jorrāelagon " Zuko cocked his head making you giggle,"I gladly teach you my love" you said making him smile, he kissed your forehead when a servant approached them,"My Lord we be arriving soon" he said with a bow, Zuko nodded his head,"Let the others know as well, thank you" he said making the servant leave,"By Sun set tomorrow we be married in the tradition of old Valyria" you said holding his hands,"I can't wait"
"Wow, it's so cool looking" Kiyi said holding Ursa hand, who finally let her mother be close to her again,"It is quite impressive" she agreed,"Look at the dragons" Kiyi said pointing towards a small dragon flying behind it's mother,"Can I have it?" she asked excitedly but Ursa shook her head," Y/N, where do the dragons live?" Noren asked,"Those two are wild dragons so they live in the dragon mount a bit further from the castle, dragons like Haku live in the dragon pit" you explained,"There aren't many dragon's here, including the wild ones I say we have 11-13"," That seems like quite a lot," he said,"It's nothing to the glory of old Valyria," your Uncle said making you shiver,"Dragons roamed the skies like birds did, every child of dragon rider families received an egg at birth which always hatched, now they mostly suit for decorations," he said, "Uncle how glad I am that you are welcoming us," you said as you saw your Uncle,"I'm glad you found your dragon, your father is waiting for you all at the dining hall, your other friends are also waiting," he said, his eyes drifting towards your necklace, the gift he gave you, which you are still wearing, a small smirk played on his lips.
"Fireboy, good to see you again" Top said the second you all walked in, she punched Zuko in the arm making him wince slightly." Father" you smiled hugging your father, he kissed your forehead and squeezed your hand once the two of you parted from the hug,"It's been only 3 months but you have changed so much my sweet child, I missed you dearly," he said,"I missed you too, how are you doing?" he sighed,"as good as one can after losing part of your heart if it hadn't been for you and your sister, I be a dead man" you smiled sadly,"How is my sister doing?","she is a strong baby, just like you were when you were born and now you are getting married," he said his own purple eyes began to tear up but he quickly composed himself when Lord Coryls walked over,"Everything is ready for the dinner," he said,"Good to see you again Princess," he said with a small bow,"Good to see you too my Lord".
Dinner was quiet, you sat beside your father while Zuko sat next to you,"I'm curious what does your wedding tradition involve?" Aang asked breaking the silence," It's a union of blood and fire" your cousin said before biting into his duck again, "In old Valyria, blood magic is what made us dragon riders, not every family could do it, and the only ones who could, were made powerful" your father explained,"That's why we try to marry each other as often as possible, our blood is what makes us special" you said with a nod,"But now it's about to become diluted" your Uncle snarked making you sigh and your father rolls his eyes,"It will strengthen our bloodline, and we made a pact, your firstborn children will be wedded together" he reminded, making you sigh,"Has your egg hatched yet?" your Uncle asked turning to Zuko," No, it hasn't" Zuko said,"If it that isn't a sign" he hummed,"Your dragon wasn't born to you either Uncle, you claimed him when you were 12" you said making his smirk drop,"But still I got one dear niece" he said before getting up,"Where you going?" his wife Laena asked,"I have some business to attend to" he said kissing her temple,"Well this got awkward fast" Sooka said to Suki and Toph,"I love this family" Toph added making Sooka smile and nod while Suko just rolled her eyes at them.
Zuko held the egg above the fire,"Come on hatch" he mumbled,"They are like babies, they will come when they feel like it" you said entering the room,"Don't worry, it will hatch eventually. I have a good feeling" you said sitting down beside him, Zuko sighed and placed the egg on his lap,"What if it doesn't?" you shrugged,"Than it doesn't, my father doesn't have a dragon he rules this place" you said making Zuko look up,"Wait what?","Soon after it hatched, it didn't get along with the other dragons in the pit" you said with a sad expression," He was given another egg but it never hatched and he was fine with it, cause he knows a dragon doesn't define his strengths as a leader or his place within the family" you continued,"So don't define yourself either, you be a great husband" you kissed his cheek," Zuko smiled and placed the egg back into it's container,"What did you bring?" he asked finally noticing the stash of cloth,"The wedding attire for tomorrow, be careful with it, they have been in the family for generations" you said making Zuko nod, Zuko inspected the outfit the shoulders were red like blood and it blended into the beige of the rest of the outfit, it was lined with golden embroidery,"Nervous?" Zuko asked making you nod,"Yes, but at least I got to know and got to love you before we get married, not many people in similar positions have that luxury,"My mother didn't" Zuko said with a nod,"I see you tomorrow.
Zuko was met by the Chief of the sun warriors, Zuko took a deep breath before approaching him,"You suit the traditional clothing well" he said looking down at Zuko, evidence of dislike was evident in his voice, and Zuko couldn't blame him. Even though Dragon's do still exist, his ancestors still hunted them down to near extinction. "Now follow me this ceremony has many steps," he said,"Some, you find them familiar enough as you did some of them with the Avatar", Zuko nodded as he followed, the path becoming familiar to him,"Take a piece of the eternal flame and bring it to your bride who is waiting for you by the Master's with a flame of her own" he said slamming the bottom of his staff into the ground, unlike last time it was only him and the Chief,"Is their reason for this tradition?" Zuko asked curiously," The Dragon's came to us because of them, they are the blood of the dragon, previously you brought the flame to your show commitment to fire bending, now by doing this you will show the same but for each other. The Princess without fire bending carried the flame before you came up to the master's without the use of her dragon, now you need to do the same".
The way up was more tiring than Zuko remembered maybe it's also the clothing which added to it, as they were slightly heavier than what he regularly wore. He examined the flame in hand just to make sure it was still the same size and not too small or too big. Soon enough he was where he met the Master's last time, it was as breathtaking as the last time. His friends and family were already there so were your family and the sun warriors."You made it, good" the Chief said,"She is waiting up there for you" he said moving sideways to reveal the stairs, sun warriors were standing on each step on both sides, more lined up in a circle around the base of the stairs, he looked up at you, a torch was in your hand which was burning with Zuko assumed with the eternal flame, beside you stood even more sun warriors. Zuko carefully made his way up,"I thought you got cold feet" you smiled shifting the torch slightly,"I'm here now. There are so many more Sun Warriors here now than last time I was in this position" he said nervously, you smiled,"It's not as different than what you did last time with Aang" you said trying to ease him. The Chief appeared behind Zuko slamming his staff into the ground and making it stick, both of you turned to the Chief to allow him to take pieces of the flames of you, he then handed the flames to the warriors around him. The warriors used those flames to create circles just like they did for Aang and Zuko before."What do we do with these now?" Zuko whispered, holding up his flame,"You will see" you said turning around and handing the torch to a Sun Warrior whose hands where free, Zuko turned around and saw another free warrior and did the same. The man gave him a glare but he held it anyway before he faced you again.
"Princess?" the chief said,"We are ready? Aren't we Zuko?", Zuko smiled and nodded."Chanters!" he hollowed making the sun warrior who weren't carrying flames begin chanting like last time, Zuko reached for you hand as the music continued the horn blared signalling Ran and Shaw to come out but it was a different horn from last time, soon blurs of red and blue swished around them before,"The horn is from old Valeryia, it was used for weddings. Dragon's were always present in weddings to approve their rider's partner and the other dragon. As a wedding between riders is not only to unite families but also dragons. But as we are only family alongside the velar yon it turned into just having Ran and Shaw in it as a reminder of the fall of our people" you explained to Zuko who seemed a bit nervous. Soon the two dragon's stopped flying and stood facing each other with the two of you in between. The chanting has stopped as well. Zuko quickly looked down at everyone, everyone who wasn't holding fire was kneeling. Zuko felt a hand on his shoulder it was the Chief, he handed Zuko a stone, it was nearly clear, the light of the flames and setting sun shined on it,"Let me do it first" you said gently grabbing the stone. Zuko nodded, slightly embarrassed, you slide the stone horizontally over you bottom lip making blood appear, you placed your thumb on the cut making the blood appear on your thumb, Zuko than realised what will happen next, he gave you a small nod, you smiled and smeared the blood between the space of his brows, you than handed Zuko the stone who did the same, he handed you the stone back, you than cut your palm open a small wince leaving your mouth, Zuko followed but he showed no signs of pain, you held out our hand zuko placed his bleeding hand on top of yours, the Chief wrapped a red cloth around your joined hands as he began speaking,"Hen lantoti ānogar (blood of two) Va sÿndroti vāedroma (joined as two)-" as he spoke a female sun warrior showed up with a golden cup in her hand, she held it under the cloth as your joined blood dripped down into it,(-Mēro perzot gīhoti (Ghostly flames) Elēdroma iārza sīr (and songs of shadows)-" the chief motioned to the sun warriors who where holding the torch and Zuko's flame, the woman moved the cup and handed it to chief,"Don't panic" you mouthed, Zuko nodded he was slightly confused why you were telling him not panic but he was soon answered as the warriors used the left over flames to set the cloth on fire, his skin began heat up but you seemed calm so he tried to keep the panic to himself,"- Izulī ampā perzī (two hearts as embers)-" the chief said handing you the cup of your blood, you brought it to your lips slowly taking a sip before handing it to Zuko, who slightly hesitated before doing the same,"-Prūmī lanti sēteksi (forged in fourteen fires) Hen jenÿ māzīlarion (a future promised in glass) Qēlossa ozūndesi (the stars stand witness) Sÿndroro ōńō jēdo (the vow spoken through time) Rÿ kīvia mazvestraksi (of darkness and light)" he finished removing the cloth from your hands.
You smiled and touched Zuko's face gently making him smile. Zuko's hand cupped the back of your head pulling you in for a kiss. The dragons huffed making Zuko pull away from you in concern,"Don't worry if they didn't like you, they would have killed you the first time" you joked making Zuko smile just as the two dragons flew back into their caves. He looked down at his hand, it wasn't burned but slightly red and it stung a bit. He looked at your hand but yours wasn't red nor did it seem to hurt. "Congrats Princess....and Fire Lord" the chief said.
The two of you walked down the stairs to your friends and family,"Congratulations guys, it was a beautiful ceremony, it was an honour to attend. How can you top this Zuko?" Katara said,"Probably not, Fire nation weddings aren't anything like this" he said wrapping his arm around your waist and bringing you closer,"Thank you for letting us be here, it's truly an honour to see how other nation's celebrate," Aang said," It was cool, a bit gross with all that blood but still cool" Sooka said making Suki and Katara nudge him," I'm not big on tradition but yours are cool" Top said with a big smile,"It was truly beautiful," Suki said,"So romantic" Ty Lee added. "Thank you for attending guys, it truly means a lot to me" Zuko said as your father pulled you aside.
"My beautiful daughter is now married" your father said cupping your cheek,"I remember the day you were born clearly, it was one of the happiest day's in my life, today is a day happiness and sorrow as I won't be able to see you as often now, as you are part of the fire nation now","I'm still your heir father, and I will do you proud" he smiled and kissed your cheek,"I know you will, I wish your mother could see you" he smiled sadly,"She is watching father, I know she is" you answered making smile at you. In the corner of your eye you could see your Uncle, he had his arms crossed and was leaning against the rock,"I wish you a Wonderfull marriage cousin" Laena said taking your hands,"Thank you, I hope my Uncle is kind to you" you said honestly," You know your Uncle, he loves me in his own unique way. Mostly now since I'm with child" your face light it,"Congratulations dear Cousin, I hope for the babe to be healthy and a strong dragon rider","Thank you, it means a lot. He already found an egg, it came from the clutch of your mother dragon. I hope it's okay?" you nodded,"Of course, we are family after all" you smiled at her, Laena silver curls slightly blew in the wind. Laena moved away when her father and brother walked over,"Congratulations Princess, I hope the marriage is what you wish it to be" Corly said,"Thank you my Lord","You know where home is cousin, in case you ever need it of course"his son said with a soft smile, even though the wedding between the two of you never happened it was still good to see that he was good with it and not petty.
Meanwhile, Zuko was talking to his own family,"You have grown a lot Zuko. You be a good husband I know you will" Iroh said patting Zuko's shoulder before pulling him in a hug, "Thank you for everything Uncle" Zuko said tears rolling down his cheek, "I'm proud to see the man you have become, I wouldn't change the journey we had for all the tea in the world" Iroh said. Zuko turns to his mother,"Thank you for letting me be part of this, I wasn't there for you at your lowest moments in the past but now I won't leave your side. I be there whenever you need me Zuko" Ursa said hugging Zuko tightly,"Thanks Mother"."Zuzu, the dragons were so cool" Kiyi said in Noren's arms, her eyes wide and filled with joy,"I'm glad you enjoyed it Kiyi" Zuko said pinching her cheeks gently making her giggle. Zuko looked up from his sister to Mai,"Congrats you are officially in chains" she said in her usual monotone voice,"No, I'm happy for you Zuko, Y/N is good for you" she said a soft smile appearing on her lips,"Thank you Mai, I hope you and Kei Lo happiness as well" Zuko smiled, Mai licked her lips and nodded,"So you ready to be a dad?" she said out of nowhere making Zuko,"What?","Come on Zuko, this only started because you need an heir and so is she, if you didn't need one you only be dating" Mai explained, Zuko sighed,"Yeah I guess I never really thought about it....It's probably in inappropriate time to ask but if we never broke up, would you see us being in this situation?","No, I don't like the idea of marriage or kids really...I guess we are destined not be a couple" she sighed,"And yes it's not a good idea to ask your ex at your wedding this question. Congrats again Zuko" she said as you approached again,"Let's head back to Dragonstone" you smiled kissing Zuko's cheek making him smile.
You and Zuko walked towards your shared bedroom, both nervous about what was to come. Once entered you noticed some small changes, the bedsheets went from a cream coloured cotton to a red silky sheet, more candles were brought in, thin curtains were placed around the bed,"Wow" you whispered turning to Zuko, your blood was still between his brows and vice versa,"Do you want to take a bath first? To get rid of the blood?" Zuko asked,"Yes, that be good. I call the maids".
The maids prepared a bath quickly, the tub was filled with steaming water to the brim, flower petals were floating on the top. I slowly turned around towards Zuko,"We can have separate baths-","No, it's fine, we are married now" he said playing with your outfit,"Take it off" you whispered,"What?","Undress me, Lord, husband" Zuko's cheek flushed, but he smirked,"Only if you the same Lady wife"

heart's fury - prologue
book one: hope "prologue"
in which a story begins.
pairing: zuko x (fem) reader
a/n: hey guys! first part of my big zuko x reader, which was originally post on ao3 here! this is a brain baby created by my return to the atla fandom (first time properly being in the fandom since i first watched this as a child rip) and a need to write something for it which woooo! big moment since i had been in the biggest writing slump i've ever had before i wrote this. i hope you all enjoy the first part, and the following chapters, because i have so enjoyed writing this and continue to enjoy it! love u all <3
warnings: none
words: 838 heart's fury masterlist
There was something so idyllic about the southern seas in the early morning. The way the sun’s fiery light reflected atop the soft blue waves; the smell of salt and cold air mixing together; the distinctly freezing southern air that, somehow, could not permeate (y/n)’s thick jacket. She felt strangely warm standing at the bow of the ship, staring at the towering icebergs that the ship easily slipped between. She wondered how anything could become so large, so imposing, but she supposed it was part of the southern charm. The last she had heard, the Southern Water Tribe had dwindled in numbers. Fire Nation soldiers imprisoned their waterbenders decades ago and, though they were accustomed to the cold, not every child could survive in such extreme conditions. No outsiders, including the Fire Nation, had set foot in Southern Water Tribe territory in years. (y/n) could only imagine how sparse their population was. But they were persistent, these Southerners, like the icebergs. They had not let the Fire Nation get the best of them.
“What are you doing out at this time?” a voice asked from behind. “It is far too cold and early.”
“Catching some peace,” she said simply. “My gut is telling me that today is going to be different.”
A hand came to rest on the railing beside her, old and weathered and gentle, but still admirably strong. Connected to the hand was, well, perhaps the only Fire Nation nobility she had been able to tolerate in years.
General Iroh, now retired, had a kind face and a soft smile that she was sure would alone keep her warm if she had not been wearing her jacket. The crow’s feet at the corners of his eyes, the wrinkles in his forehead, and the deepness of his smile lines did not age him but, rather, did the opposite. He reminded her of a mischievous - yet remarkably wise - child; one that could not be trusted alone with a basket of sweet treats. He shivered in his red robes, but he kept a firm grip on the icy metal railing.
“And why do you say that?”
(y/n) turned her gaze back on the icy path ahead of them. She had always trusted her intuition, knowing that it was a better weapon than her knives or even her bending, but she often couldn’t explain the reasons why she felt things. Maybe it stemmed from her childhood, some sixth sense she had developed by guessing what her mother would make for breakfast or which way her father would take her on his ostrich-horse to get to the Royal Palace in the mornings. Perhaps it was some semblance of a spiritual connection - one of Iroh’s stories that had taken root and given her a strong mind.
She wasn’t sure what her answer to his question should be.
“Just a feeling,” she said. She always said.
It seemed to be enough to appease Iroh. “We are nearing the south pole. I fear that my nephew will be let down once more.”
It was a justified concern. The reason they both stood on this ship, thousands of miles away from home, was a fruitless hunt, bred from punishment, shame, and a terrible lust for honour and, ever a self-centred royal, Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation was determined to get what he wanted.
The Avatar.
Two and a half years the three, and a handful of Fire Nation soldiers, had been hunting the living legend down. It was a futile search - Fire Lord Ozai was aware of this when he had banished his son - but Prince Zuko was adamant. He had ordered them around the world in search of a man who had not been seen in a hundred years, and thrown a princely fit every time they did not find him.
Iroh was right to worry. Prince Zuko’s sole ambition was to find the Avatar and restore his honour, taking back his rightful place as heir to the title of Fire Lord, but it made one wonder what would happen if he were to accept that the Avatar was unreachable.
Not that he would ever accept it.
“This isn’t the right path for him,” Iroh murmured. Despite there being nobody else on deck, he kept his voice low, leaning closer. “Capturing the Avatar is not the correct decision.”
He cast her a meaningful look, something in the wise, dark eyes sparkling as he turned and walked away, likely to make himself a cup of tea.
(y/n) breathed a sigh, watching the misty breath hover in front of her before dissipating. This was not the first time Iroh had hinted at the secret she kept close to her chest, clutched in iron fingers. If anyone else were to know, she would likely be dead by now. But Iroh shared her cause.
If they ever found the Avatar, wherever they were, she would fight tooth and nail to ensure Prince Zuko could never take them back to the Fire Nation.
