staying on anon bc i talk about sparklecare/cometcare a lot on my blog and i do genuinely enjoy them but it's kinda reassuring to me to know that this blog exists and i'm not just like... being weird over being critical over the series lol. like i'm an aromantic gay guy and i also find it really weird that barruni/carlsly were initially introduced as mlm only to be flipped around into being hetero + hemera being aro but still having like five qpps in cometcare (keeping in mind I'M a partnering aro in a qpp and still find that as an excuse to ship hemera without really acknowledging that she's aro because it's mentioned. one time and never again in main sparklecare). i didn't say anything because i didn't know if i was just being a hater or whatever since the majority of ships are sapphic but yeahhh the lack of proper mlm/nblm and aro/ace characters that are either never acknowledged as such or just straight up changed into something else feels really iffy to me.

also tangentially related, i don't want to name names since i've seen that person on this blog's replies before but i feel like i can't have shit as a gay man kinning dr party (who is canonically gay) because of that person shipping him with uni and then being under like, every cometcare post and post relating to party. i know party's sexuality is never stated in-comic but it's been listed before and that person is under so many of kittycorn's posts that i feel like kit would said something about it if kit cared lol. sorry this ask is really long (this isn't even mentioning everything else i have issues with) but i haven't admitted this before and it's pretty important to me as an aro gay man. thanks for running this blog, it makes me feel normal. /gen -🐍

[The last of the Tim Morris D&D monsters commissioned by @glarnboudin​. I wanted to do this one because it reminds me of some toys I had as a kid. They were little rubber aliens or monsters with long snouts. All three of the ones I had had legs (some with toes, some insect-like), but I’ve seen tentacled ones more like this in passing. But I never knew who made them or where to get them (I got mine as prizes at Chuck E Cheeze, but never saw them after like one summer). I just looked up “rubber monster with snout” and apparently they were called Slurfies? I might need to buy some to reward my inner child for solving this more than 20 year old mystery.]

Tentaspouter CR 3 N Aberration This creature is vaguely like an octopus, with eight tentacles, but two of them are larger than the others and tipped with claws. It has eight eyes overlooking a long siphon, which is mobile and flexible.

Tentaspouters are cephalopod-like ambush predators that live by the water’s edge. They are most common in fresh water systems, although some do move into estuaries or salt marshes. Their hunting strategy consists of using powerful blasts of water to bludgeon and push prey around, preferably into the waiting arms of one of their kin. Only two of their tentacles are large and strong enough to strike from a distance, but once prey is grappled, all of the limbs come into play, as does the tentaspouter’s beak. The beak is much more like a stylet than the parrot-like beak of an octopus, and can drain blood at an impressive rate.

Tentaspouters are social creatures, and typically live and hunt in groups. These “gauntlets” are so called because they usually set up outposts running along a natural or constructed bridge, hoping to catch passing organisms on land. Tentaspouters can speak, albeit only to a limited degree, and supplement their speech with tentacle gestures and shifts in color. They are not inherently evil, but only a few of them realize that humanoids are different from animal prey. They do not value treasure, but valuable items may be found near their lairs, still held or carried by desiccated victims.

[Commissioned by @thetygre, who wanted a more mythologically accurate medusa than the PFRPG standard. That meant looking hideous, wings and tusks, and certainly no snake body. There's not a lot of art of gorgons that meets that beyond actual red-figure pottery. My flavor text refers to the Hesiod genealogy of the Gorgones, who places them as sister to Echidna and other divinity-defying monsters. No transformation narrative here. This also completes something of a set, as Bestiary 6 introduces the euryale as a super powerful, snake bodied gorgon.]

Stheno CR 13 CE Monstrous Humanoid This creature resembles a caricature of a human woman, with a bulbous nose, curving tusks, and frenzied eyes. Her hair is a tangle of snakes. Feathered wings grow from her back, and her hands and feet have talons of bronze.

A stheno is a medusa-like creature that is consumed by fury and violence. They rage especially against the gods—according to their own lore, they are the daughters of the titans, and resent the loss of their power in the ancient Titanomachy. Sthenoi live in remote hills and rocky islands, brooding on their hatred of the divine before swooping out to raid temples, monasteries and festivals. They delight in melee more than their medusa kin. Although they are practiced archers, they usually have the patience to stay at a distance for a round or two before losing themselves to bloodlust. When attacking mixed groups, they focus first on those using divine magic or carrying holy symbols.

Sthenoi sometimes try to recruit medusas into their wars on the gods, but the true medusas typically prefer stealth and subtlety. The sthenoi see euryales are traitors of the highest order, having embraced divine gifts. A single euryale can lay waste to even an army of sthenoi, however, so the latter tend to keep their distance. Demodands, unsurprisingly, are a stheno's greatest allies, and some sthenoi can be found in the Abyss working with demodands to spread heresy and ruin.

Frenzy (Ex) Three times per day as a free action, a stheno can enter a state of frenzy. In this state, she gains a +3 bonus on all melee attack rolls, melee damage rolls, thrown weapon damage rolls and Will saves. She also gains 3 temporary hit points per Hit Dice (or 42 temporary hit points for an average stheno). She suffers a -2 penalty to Armor Class, and cannot use any Charisma, Dexterity or Intelligence based skills (except for Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate and Ride), or perform any task that requires concentration. A stheno’s frenzy lasts for 1 minute, whereupon she is fatigued for 1 minute. Improved Poison Use (Ex) A stheno can apply poison to a weapon as a swift action. She never risks wasting a dose, and can apply poison from her snakebites if she has no poison at hand. Petrifying Gaze (Su) Turn to stone permanently, 30 feet, Fortitude DC 21 negates. The save DC is Charisma-based. Poison (Ex) Snakebite—injury; save Fort DC 25; frequency 1/round for 6 rounds; effect 1d3 Str and Dex damage; cure 2 consecutive saves. Spurn Divinity (Ex) A stheno gains a +4 racial bonus on all saves against divine spells and the spell-like abilities of outsiders.

Probably? I think that monsterfucking goes both ways: from the point of view of the alien you're dating, humankind is just as alien to them as their race is to you.

Though as far as the spirits' opinion about humans goes, I think they'd just think he has hella low standards.*

That being said, spirits are apparently naturally ace so perhaps this kind of physical attraction would be as weird to them as the idea of lack of physical attraction is weird to humans (speaking as a proud aroace, people really make it into a huge deal for some reason.)

Sure, romantic feelings are perfectly game - Bartimaeus did mention a pair of djinn who fell in love and, when they wound up on the opposite sides of the battlefield, one couldn't bring himself to hurt the other and was torn in two by their will and the charge placed on him - but I imagine that the idea of physical attraction would be seen as just as weird as the subject of said attraction.

Tl;dr: he'd probably be considered a monsterfucker, but while usually it's the monster aspect that's seen as weird, in the case of a spirit, both the monster and the fucker parts of the label would be frowned upon by his kin.

*I personally hesitate to say that he has low standards because I firmly believe that both Ammet and Khaba are so genuinely weird that the only beings in existence they can hang out with without the relationship crashing and burning are each other. It's a one in a million happenstance of a fuckup meeting someone fucked up in the exact same direction and their respective fuckups actually meshing well together. Talk about a match made in hell.

Yes! I’ve been thinking lately about how that would work. It’s just as weird for the dragon, for example, as it would be for the human.

Spirits being naturally ace/ace-spec is another good point; I think it’s just because they don’t reproduce at all, sexually or otherwise, they (generally) don’t have that instinct, if that makes sense? I imagine there have been spirits throughout history who weren’t asexual, but they probably either didn’t act on this or fucked other non-ace spirits.

Yeah they really are a one in a million fucked up couple, and we love that for them.

For the Q&A: Who’s your favorite character from each game? (Any mod can answer this!)

This ended up being longer than I thought it would be. The answer is under the cut. But be careful, there are spoilers for udg.

My fave from Thh is Makoto. Im not going to write an entire essay about him because there isn't a deep reason. I just like optimistic characters that aren't so god damn loud and annoying.

My fave from Sdr2 (and my fave dr character ever) is definetly Akane. She is treated so badly both by the fandom and the creators. She isn't just some big chested Aoi ripoff with no character devolepment. Aoi is beter than her because Akane is not supposed to be like Aoi. Just because they have similar interests and looks doesn't mean that they're the same. Akane is a loving sister who does everything she can to help her siblings. Im not going too deep into her backstoy because it's actually pretty sad and might be triggering for some people. If you're curious about it you can do/watch her free time events.

My fave from Udg is Yuta. Like Makoto, there isn't a deep reson to it. I just liked him the second he appeared on screen. I really wish he wasn't used to show what would happen if Omaru left the City. His death destroyed me.

I really need to replay V3 but right now my favorite is Himiko. She is one of my highest kins. Seeing her happy makes me happy and seeing her sad makes me sad. I identify with her, she makes me feel valid.
