TERF has become so synonymous with bad person (which is true btw, not claiming it isn't) that people stopped thinking critically about what TERF actually means. Like I just blocked a blog that had TERFs and lesbian men in their DNI. You are still vulnerable for falling into TERF thinking if you keep a strict binary thinking about sexuality and can't imagine multigender people IDing in contractionary ways or trans people having a different relationship with sexuality than you think they should have based on their gender. Just saying TERFs DNI does not make you immune for their thinking or automatically right about your opinions about trans people. According to the UK government, as of March 2022 (as this is the most recent reliable study I can find on the subject) there are only 230 transgender people in prison in the UK, with 168 of those identifying as trans women. This is compared to, according to the 2021 Census for England and Wales, around 262,000 transgender people in the total English and Welsh population of 59.6 million. (I could not find a reliable statistic for Scotland since they don’t have a Census, but the estimated transgender population is thought to be 0.5%, which would add up as around 24,000 Scottish people. Finding a reliable statistic for Northern Ireland is even more impossible but the estimated amount is 0.1%, which would add up to only 1885 people as of 2019.) Of those 168 trans women, only 6 were placed in female prisons — female prisons hold around 4% of the total UK prison population, adding up to around 3150 women. So 6 out of 3150 adds up to around 0.19% of the total female prison population in the UK.

According to the same study, as well as one done the year before in September 2021 (since the statistics did not increase significantly during those 6 months), there are estimated to be around 65,000 sentenced prisoners (if you include remand the number is around 79,800) in the UK, about 14,000 of which are sentenced sex offenders. Immediate custodial sentenced sex offenders make up around 11,900 of that.

So. We don’t know exactly how many trans people, particularly trans women, are in prison specifically for sexual offences. However, even so, neither 230 nor 168 are anywhere near 47% of 11,900, 14,000, 65,000 or 79,800. In fact, just to recap and tie this all up, the maths shows that transgender people make up a measly 0.29% of the total prison population, with trans women specifically adding up to 0.21% — and only 6 of those being placed into female prisons, meaning trans women make up a microscopic 0.19% of the total female prison population in the UK. All of this adds up to an even smaller amount than the 4% of total female prisoners and even that 6% statistic you just gave me of (cis) female sex offenders in prison, anon. Funny, that. Reckon your maths needs some work, eh?

It's so wild to me that as a community we're still so hostile to multigender and genderfluid people existing in gay and lesbian spaces.

You...are aware that people who are both men and women are allowed to be gay, right? And lesbian? Their other genders doesn't cancel their connection to womanhood, or manhood, or whatever else they id with. They are allowed to be gay despite their fem-alignment, and they are allowed to be lesbian despite their masc-alignment.

It comes from these weird online spaces that the standard to be gay or lesbian is to be a "non-woman" or a "non-man," which is inherently transmultiphobic and...extremely ahistorical. And completely misunderstands nonbinary identity. So if you're both then you just don't belong anywhere I suppose.
