My 1st Work of Art- A Friend in Need (September 22, 2020)

Creating Art always foretells a story about one’s self as well as the entire world around ourselves. It creates a door for everyone to discover their identity, their dreams, and their purpose for a greater change in life. I love to explore the road that I’m taking and my surroundings on how they inspired me a lot. It helped me grow as a kind-hearted woman who wants to spread love for others as we can give to those who really need it. It’s all conveyed in this new work of Art from my creation, A Friend in Need, for my Critique #1/ Blog assignment in Fine Arts Portfolio. In this artwork, a young African-American Girl is shown crying all alone as she was bullied by mean kids because they described her kindness as a “weak” trait. But then, she’s soon greeted by two pure-hearted people: one white American and one Black Lesbian as they welcomed her into their friendship circle. The young girl becomes very happy as she felt very welcomed and finds true great friends to be with.

I would have to say that this new work was a very tough challenge for me as it took me a lot of thinking on how to portray the message with the personal experiences from my own life as well as repairing time management due to busy schedules. But after exploring a lot of information about religion and LGBT movements, I was finally able to come up with storylines for my characters that connects with real events. I’m very proud with my original characters as I painted different citizens from different communities because I really want to express the love and connection of these characters. Going back to the drawing features of my painting skills with my comic book skills really saved me on creating the plot because it felt like the panels are connecting sides left to right. I really wished that I apply more details on the fingers and certain body features, but I think that it creates a childlike vibe of remembering what it means to be a good person. This work will really lead me to create more art on expressing people as heroes and heroines on making the world better as they come from different cultures. It really inspired me to explore more on movements and communities to get to know them as well as making sure that I got their stories correct.
