Favorite moments in the MDZS manhua chap 236:
(covers novel chap 99, adapted in donghua ep 35 and audio drama S3Ep13)
Big Bro retains his spot as the #1 WangXian shipper. ALL HAIL BIG BRO!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Big Bro just slaps Wei Ying's hand away...respect! 👊👊
Tumblr media
I love Big Bro's passionate indignation on behalf of his little bro. 🥺
Tumblr media
🥺🥺🥺 Imagine, if Wei Ying never came back, these would've been the last words he ever said to Lan Zhan. 💔
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way Big Bro calls him out...I love Big Bro so much! (Of course I know it's not completely Wei Ying's fault but still...I love Big Bro)
Tumblr media
*implied: like what horrible things has he been doing to Lan Zhan because he was being so thoughtless about them.
Tumblr media
They left out Wei Ying's line in the book where he says "You understand my ass!" to Jin Guangyao when he says he understands Wei Ying's anxiousness to get back to Lan Zhan. A shame, I always thought that line was funny.
Between the audio drama, donghua and now manhua, my favorite adaptation of these scenes still is the audio drama. The amazing score and performances, especially Wang Kai-laoshi's Lan Xichen, just made the scenes so much more gut-wrenching. Of course I was utterly grateful to the donghua for even including the cave scene, but...just listen how much MORE it is in audio drama (I included the cave scene and then Big Bro Xichen's You don't know scene):
In the cave scene, I just love the way the music reaches a crescendo when Wei Ying says "Get lost" to Lan Zhan ( or, according to MTL, "roll" 😂). And the very resolute way Lan Zhan refuses to leave Wei Ying's side even when his elders tell him to is just...ugh, my heart just clenches for him. Then Big Bro's "You can actually say you do not know" is like heart-aching itself...almost as if Wei Ying was breaking HIS heart instead of his little brothers'. It's just...PERFECTION.
Next week, finally, Lan Zhan's life is in Jin Guangyao 's hands. 😁
~
The above inferior translations of the manhua are my own, please pardon any shortcomings.

Finished
Teen:
With Surgical Precision, by metisket
If Wen Qing had realized sooner that she wasn’t in the afterlife or hallucinating, but had actually traveled back in time, she’d have done things differently. There’d have been less murder, for one thing.
The Straightest Path, by meyari (🔒, 14 chapters)
The moment of Xiongzhang’s death would live forever in Lan Zhan’s mind. He’d turned towards Lan Zhan, qiankun pouch holding the library in his hands. Then he’d gasped as arrows flew towards them both in a hail no one could survive.
How Often Do You See Your Mother?, by Winxhelina
It is the one day of the month, when Lan Zhan gets to see his mum. This month is different. They are outside. His mother has somehow managed to convince the Lans to allow all three of them, and 12 Lan disciples, to go to the market. 'Like normal children get to do with their mummies and daddies' his mother had said. Of course his daddy isn't here.
Lan Zhan chews on the too sweet strawberry and looks through the crowds. There is a small boy, around his age, sitting on a dirty blanket on edge of the street. No one else seems to notice him, everyone's just passes him by, some of them even step on the corner of the little blanket. The boy is looking at Lan Zhan. Staring really. Lan Zhan stares back. The boy smiles at him, his smile is warm and friendly, a bit like mum's. He waves at Lan Zhan.
Inspired by the scene in the donghua that seems to suggest Wei Ying and Lan Zhan met as children.
In which Lan Zhan and his mother meet a homeless Wei Ying on the streets and decide to help him find his parents.
General:
The Other Half of My Soul, as the Poets Say, by IrisPines618
"Wei Wuxian spoke again, soft and plaintive, "Would you know him, if you saw him again ? He is much changed from who he was.... from the man you loved "
The response sounded again, sure as steel, "I would know him blind, by the way he breathed, and the sound of his feet against the earth. I would know him in death, in different forms. I would know him till the stars burn out, and in utter darkness, and in all this, my love will remain. I would love him if he hated me. Even if he killed me, my last act would be to confess my love for him. I would love him until the world's end, and beyond. I will love him forever"
Wei Ying awakens at the bottom of the canyon in the Burial Mounds, and finds a red thread tied around his ankle, one end sinking into his heart, the other stretching out towards the horizon. With nothing to lose, Wei Wuxian decides to follow it, and finds, at the other end, his destiny, his soulmate, his zhiji
Lan Qiren Time travel AU, by @marzaid (tumblr fic)
Time travel AU where post canon Lan Qiren travels back in time to when Wei Wuxian is 4 and has just lost his parents. Lan Qiren may hate the man (now boy), but he still follows the rules strictly and will not kill. Instead, Lan Qiren finds a 4 year old Wei Wuxian cowering in an alley hiding from dogs. He protects the boy because the rules tell him that it is his duty to do so.
Trellis, by WithBroomBefore
Jiang Yanli spends long enough weighing the merits of a second child against the inconveniences of another pregnancy for the decision to be nearly made by default. She is a sect leader’s wife now, and even with her mother-in-law still living, that is more than enough work to fill her days. By the time Jin Ling is nine years old, she has accepted that he will not have siblings close enough in age to grow up alongside as she and her brothers did. Still, she and Jin Zixuan speak wistfully of another from time to time, with the growing awareness that they are unlikely to follow that path. So it is a joyous surprise when the question answers itself.
No-One But The Pure In Heart, by sami (part of 2 series)
anyoneanyonebuick
I can't decide whether I think "yeah, it checks out that the Immortals would all get in on his bullshit this time"
or
"yeah, it checks out that he'd have a bunch of people pretend to be them, it's exactly what he'd do"
No, Wei Wuxian, You Cannot Divorce A Man You Haven't Married Yet!, by stiltonbasket (8 chapters)
"Have you heard? The second young mistress of Yunmeng Jiang broke her troth with Hanguang-jun and ran off to the Burial Mounds with Wen Qionglin!"
"Ah, poor Lan-er-gongzi. Breaking her sister's engagement wasn't enough for Wei-guniang, she had to betray her own intended!"
In which Wei Wuxian ditches the cultivation world, Lan Wangji goes grocery shopping, Lan Sizhui narrates his parents' love story, and Nie Huaisang is the only one who knows what's really going on. Prompt fic!

What Remains After the War, by Swan_Song
There is a child in the burial mounds.
Looking at the face of a sobbing toddler, crying for the man he once called brother, Jiang Wanyin he can’t find it in him to care that the boy has Wen blood.
He takes the boy home
我们不要伤心了 - lets not grieve anymore, by bonesntears
Wei Wuxian lost it all for a second time. The one thing he thought would stay, didn't stand by his side. The only constant throughout his entire two lifetimes shook his head and turned around. The rain felt more like drowning in tears of everything he's hurt, gray clouds hiding the life he clung to so desperately. Lan Zhan, please--come back for me one last time.
i.e., instead of reincarnation through Mo Xuanyu, Wei Wuxian finds himself waking from death in his own body, as a child again.
Seven Seconds to the End, by Admiranda, miixz
Wei Wuxian has been alive for less than an hour, he has no plans for his future. But if there is one thing he knows, it’s that he wants to see Lan Zhan again.
Wei Wuxian remembers all that happened at the end of his first life. He remembers that Lan Zhan stayed on his side until the very end, how he'd tried to save him before Jiang Cheng attempted to kill them both. When he fell, the last thing he saw was Lan Zhan's eyes, the last thing he heard was his cries.
When he finds himself unexpectedly returned to life, he knows exactly who he can trust and where he needs to go. A Chen Qing Ling retelling.
How Well You Walk Through Fire, by Eternal Scribe (Shadowcat)
Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji were not sure exactly what they were seeing, but they knew that they couldn’t look away. They had been searching for these two men for days and had finally found them trying to hide undetected in an out-of-the-way inn on the edges of Yiling. Listening to their conversation it seemed that they were trying to get to Wen Chao’s father before whoever was hunting Wen Chao caught up with him again.

The Line Between Good and Evil, by Dandesamm

The Eternal Endings Cast and History: The Down-Timers
//Hey everyone, Mod Bubbles here! I bring you some more of My Thoughts.
//Having gone through Danganronpa: Eternal Endings with my friend Timeline Anon, I can say it's one of the most unique and interesting fangans we've seen thus far. We had no idea how it would work, but somehow it really seems like it can.
//One thing that really piques my interest isn't just that the cast is in the afterlife, but the fact that all of them come from very different points in history. That's something I think is worth speculating on, especially with how it may play into their characters, both in terms of their places in history and the context from where they're from.
//There have always been small historical tidbits in DR, both canon and fangan, but Eternal Endings is the first one I've seen that specifically has real-world events playing a role here. Our protagonist, Krystal Willard, died in 2021, specifically referencing how the travel restrictions imposed during the height of the Pandemic were being lifted.
//This game specifically doesn't take place in the same timeline as the Hope's Peak saga, since the founder of the talent program is another figure altogether, but I thought it would be interesting to examine the eras each of them are from.
//As a bit of shorthand, I also decided to borrow some terminology from Eric Flint's Ring of Fire series (a great book series btw), where people from the past are referred to as "Down-Timers" and people from the present/future are "Up-Timers."
//This also just gives me a chance to talk about history, which I enjoy doing : P
//So, without further ado, let's get into it.
THE DOWN-TIMERS:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhao Ying (1903-1932)
Hailing from the furthest back in time is Zhao, a personal favorite of mine, who was the Ultimate Singer. Just from that time frame, she would've been around for the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Warlord Era, the rise of the Nationalist Government and the very early stages of the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War II. Just days before her death- on February 18th 1932- the Imperial Japanese conquered Manchuria and established the puppet state of Manchukuo.
There's also a bit of an anachronism with the PRC's flag being there, given that the design wasn't adopted until 1949, but that's probably for the benefit of a modern audience.
Anyway, Zhao is an entertainer and doesn't really make a lot of commentary on these conflicts. She's a singer, a dancer, and an actress, and had an upcoming role before her death. This is very interesting because the 1920s and 30s represented the emergence of cinema in China. The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple, a 16-part box office hit, was released between 1928-1931 and represents one of the first martial arts action films, but has sadly been lost to time.
Zhao was more than likely a silent film star, although 1931 brought the first Chinese sound film, Sing-Song Girl Red Peony, so it's possible her voice has been recorded as well. If I had to guess, Zhao probably lived around Shanghai, given that it was the center of the Chinese entertainment industry in this era.
One of the most overlooked aspects of Chinese history is that, while China itself was never colonized, it was forced to make Concessions to outside powers. These were pieces of territory in major cities like Shanghai, which were effectively enclaves of foreign territory that were exempt from Chinese law and provided a foothold for European Empires, America, and even Japan to exert influence and trade.
A byproduct of this is that many gangs and secret societies were allowed to operate with impunity in the Concessions, which resulted in prostitution, drug dealing and gambling being quite common. This probably explains why Zhao isn't a fan.
However, the saddest thing about the losses in Zhao's life? She was a mother.
Tumblr media
Given that the photo says 1932, this had to be around January or Early February, meaning Zhao's boy, Wang Wei, couldn't have been more than 2 or 3. In-story, she's in tears over leaving her son behind and wonders if he'll even remember her.
Not to make the hurt worse, but given that Shanghai would be occupied by the Japanese Empire from 1937-1945...well, I'm going to hope that the poor kid and the rest of her family made it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Earnest Mikkola (1910-1945)
Speaking of World War II, Earnest would've been around for it and its prequel. Essentially the Indiana Jones figure of this setting, Earnest was a worldwide reputation as an explorer, having discovered new animals, plants and even civilizations. His expeditions took him quite a ways around the world, but it's his death that catches my attention.
See, Earnest is Finnish. I've seen some people worried that this means he was one the side of the Axis during the war, but this is a misunderstanding. See, just months after the Invasion of Poland, Finland was on the receiving end of an ultimatum from Stalin. Because he felt the border was too close to Leningrad (today St. Petersburg), he demanded Finland hand over some land to provide a buffer zone or else. The Finns said no, obviously, and thus began the Winter War.
To put it simply, while the Soviets ultimately got what they wanted, the Finns gave them a pretty bloody nose in the process. In just three and a half months, the Soviets suffered over five times as many casualties as the Finns and their international reputation suffered worse.
The conflict was also ultimately pointless, as Finland- while it didn't side with Germany- formed what was an alliance of convenience. When Operation Barbarossa took place, the Finns actually occupied much of the Karelia peninsula, even more than they had before. This lasted until 1944.
That's when Finland pulled an Uno reverse card and sided against Germany, starting the Lapland War, where the Finnish military tried to push all Axis forces out of their borders, and this lasted until April 1945, just a month before victory in Europe was declared.
How does this relate to Earnest? I guess it depends on where he was during the Lapland War, whether he was at home or elsewhere in the world, and whose side he was ultimately in favor of. Could that be why he was poisoned? It remains to be seen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yun Jung-Hoon (1936-1952)
Continuing with the war trend, here we have the first one to ask a historical question: local fly boy Yun. Even just from the patch on his shoulder, I could tell what his deal probably was before Krystal even spoke with him.
Sure enough, Yun here was a pilot in the Korean War. For those who don't know, Korea- which had been occupied by Japan since 1910- was divided along the 38th parallel North after World War II. The Soviets occupied by the north and established a communist government, led by Kim Il-Sung, while the Americans occupied the south and established a non-communist government lead by Syngman Rhee.
If you're only familiar with the North/South divide in the modern day, this is where it began. In the Spring of 1950, Kim lead an invasion to unify the country under communist rule, and because the South was militarily weak at the time, he thought it would be easy and conquered all the way down to an area called the Pusan Perimeter. Of course, America and a United Nations coalition force arrived to push them out.
They managed to push their way up to the northern border, where it seemed possible to conquer the North...only for the newly-established People's Republic of China to send hundreds of thousands of troops to support the North. They pushed the front lines south, where it stagnated around the 38th parallel for the next three years.
Tumblr media
Based on his death date, if he died in battle, I'm guessing it was either in the First Battle of Hook or The Battle of Triangle Hill.
Yun also asks Krystal about the outcome of the war, but he decides he doesn't want to know and instead says he needs time to mentally prepare himself. I can't say I blame him, given that the war he died in was ultimately just a stalemate and technically never really ended.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oumar Dembélé (1939-1969)
Another personal favorite of mine, Oumar is hilariously melodramatic, but also quite empathetic and emotionally-conscious dude. He's a relationship counselor and a published author, which is very interesting.
Oumar is Malian, and with that time frame, he would've been born when the country was under French colonial rule. At the time, Mali was called "French Sudan" and was ruled as part of French West Africa, a federation of eight colonies in the region. Mali and Senegal both achieved independence as the Federation of Mali on June 20th, 1960, although their status as a federation only lasted two months.
Even under French rule, there was a considerable divide between Northerners, particularly the Tuareg people, and Southerners. Under independence, the country's first president, Modibo Keïta, moved quickly to establish a single-party state, nationalized a great deal of services, and withdrew from the French Community in favor of closer ties to the Eastern Bloc, although economic problems lead to them rejoining the Franc Zone in 1967. He would later be deposed in a coup the following year.
This doesn't mean Oumar would've stayed in Mali, of course. In fact, I get the impression he probably moved to someplace like France to become as prominent as he had. This probably would've come in the wake of the Algiers War, when France saw many years of economic growth.
Oumar's death is also equally interesting and horrifying to consider, given that he was specifically crushed in a small venue.
Tumblr media
This was a case of human crush injury. This is when a crowd of people is so tightly packed together (4–5 people per square meter/2.5 square feet per person), there's no room for them to move or even breathe.
The 1989 Hillsborough Disaster is a pretty infamous example of that, where 72,841 people compacted together in a stadium designed to hold just under 40,000. The result? 766 people were injured, 94 died and another 3 later died of injures they received. The crowd was so packed that even people who had died were still held up through the pressure.
Personal space is important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bonnie Clark (1959-1978)
And here's Bonnie, easily the saddest character in the game and I can't blame her at all. Out of all the Down-Timers, she's the one we actually learn the most about in her introduction. She has the vibes of an all-American girl, with a very fitting accent and everything.
She had a friend group that she frequently went to the arcade with, and she worked at a place called Don's Diner. How do we know? Krystal finds a picture.
Tumblr media
"Now disgraced" in this context likely refers to Bonnie's untimely death. If any of you are familiar with the Terrible "Accident" PSA on workplace safety, you can probably imagine what happened. It's easily one of the most horrific ways to go, not gonna lie ^^;
Beyond that, there's not too much to really say with her in terms of historical context, given that she's a pretty archetypal small town girl, albeit much more pessimistic than many other examples. That could relate to how the 1970s were a difficult time for America, both economically and socially, due to factors like OPEC's oil embargo due to the Yom Kippur War.
That being said, it was still a time of significant social, scientific and technological progress, although for a teenager trying to make end's meet, that probably would've been a small comfort.
On a much lighter note, Bonnie got to enjoy some of the classic video games of the era: Pong, Space Invaders, Breakout, Death Race, Asteroids, Galaxian and many others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fernando Gomes (1958-1984)
And here we have our local himbo, Fernando. He's a pretty laid-back dude and his bio states that, while he's attained worldwide fame for his surfing skills, he prefers to stick around his home town and stay in the lifeguard job he's had since he was a teenager.
Even if you know history, it's almost easy to forget while talking to him that Fernando would've spent most of his life under a military dictatorship.
The Fifth Brazilian Republic, which was established after a coup on April 1st, 1964, was a brutally repressive government. Strong anti-communist policies, hard-line conservatism, political repression, mass censorship, curtailment of freedom of speech and the widespread killing, torturing and deporting of dissidents were all commonplace, particularly in the 70s.
So common, in fact, that the decade between 1968 and 1978 is also called the "Years of Lead."
Despite this, Brazil adopted a highly diversified and developmentalist economic model that helped boost their economy, and they developed the slogan "Brazil: Love it or Leave it." Fernando, ironically, seemed to adhere to that slogan given his love for his hometown.
Of course, Brazil would eventually return to democracy, but Fernando would fatally hit his head on a rock before he could see it happen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sonechka Morozova (1978-1996)
And another favorite of mine, Soneckha is our local magical weirdo, whose predictions of the future have been far more accurate than chance would suggest. She's also not disappointed that she's dead, but rather than she didn't end up as Queen of Hell like she wanted.
She's also very interesting in that, while she doesn't seem to play well with others, she'll respect you if you respect her in return, such as not giving her a nickname and understanding what a soothsayer is.
Timeline-wise, Sonechka would've been around for the latter days of the Soviet Union, the Chernobyl Disaster, the collapse of communist rule over Eastern Europe, the independence of the Russian Federation, the 1993 Constitutional Crisis and the First Chechen War.
It's not hard to see how, given that she has the ability to predict the future to a supernatural degree, she likely saw these events, and watching them play out probably shaped a lot about her personality and outlook.
My biggest question is how she wound up dying of hypothermia in the middle of the summer, as July is actually the warmest month in the country.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Petra Nightingale (1987-2006)
First introduced as "Scene Kid," Petra is definitely someone whose design would grab your attention. Her talent was a bit of a surprise to me, but her attitude, not to mention her sweet personality, really make her well-suited to caring for seniors.
Petra is English and would've been a 90's kid, so her time might've been spent with things like classic shows, crisp packets with prizes in them, Mr. Blobby and that time when the console wars were between Nintendo and Sega.
In terms of social and political history, the 90s saw the end of Margaret Thatcher's time as prime minister, the restoration of relations with Argentina after the Falkland War, the latter half of the Mad Cow Disease scandal and the Good Friday Agreement that brought an end to the Troubles.
Petra also mentions she's from Brighton, and during her childhood, she would've seen the city become much more prominent, which resulted in housing prices going up and a lot of people moving away. Would that have influenced her decision to start caring for seniors who couldn't afford to move.
I think the most interesting part to consider is that, as a senior caregiver, Petra has probably met a lot of veterans from Britain's various conflicts, from both World Wars to the various colonial conflicts to maybe even people who were in conflict with the IRA during the early days of the Troubles.
Not that I think it would've made Petra a judgemental person, as she seems very nice, but someone so young and very clearly quite lonely could have had her worldview shaped quite a bit by vets from these conflicts. I just think it's interesting to consider.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vivian Wright (1966-2015)
Finally, the most recent Down-Timer and one from an era most of us are familiar with, Vivan was a Canadian teacher who was killed in a car accident. She's actually the first one Krystal meets after arriving, and we see that, while Viv is pretty nice, she also definitely has those anger issues.
I think most of us know what she would've been around to witness just before her death, but in terms of her adolescence, she would've been around for things such as Trudeaumania, civil rights for the First Nations, the many political tensions within Quebec and Terry Fox's famous attempt to run cross-country.
As the Ultimate Teacher, Viv probably has a lot to share on these topics, and I think it's interesting to consider how she could potentially be the one to help her fellow Down-Timers accommodate to the discoveries that came after their deaths. It's an interesting possibility.
//So there you go, some historical context for each of our Down-Timers, which I think could potentially play a role in their characters, arcs and motivations in the story. It's understandable that a lot of them probably have values that we today wouldn't agree with, but the same could be said of us and the Up-Timers, who deserve their own essay as well.
//This is also my way of saying "Go check out Eternal Endings, it's genuinely interesting and I want to see more!" : P

There is one thing I noticed in this fandom and I do not understand it and that is dividing Wei Wuxian and Yilling Laozu. My understanding after reading the novel was that while whole world was thinking him evil Wei Ying was still himself, just trying his best to take care of others and this contrast was very stark. He didn’t have any personality changes as Yilling Laozu yet half the fan fictions about Burial Mounds are characterised as this brooding hero, constantly shut off in his cave, emanating top energy like he would ever and it’s just so off 😥 just let him be a sunshine boy with a lot of empathy even for his enemies, a bratty bottom dear fanfic writers 🙏
So true. Ppl are acting like whoever posted the weird, edgy Yiling Laozu banner lol:
One time, when Wei WuXian saw a long banner that said ‘all hail the supreme Lord of Evil Patriarch of YiLing’, a mouthful of fruit wine shot from his lips. He really couldn’t take it any longer. He went down the mountain, accepted with pleasure all of the tributes with which they ‘honored his most wise sage’, and began to use another mountain path from then on.
Meanwhile the fearsome, superme Lord of Evil :
Wen Qing’s voice was low, “These past few days, you’ve worked hard.”
Wei WuXian, “You… You’re suddenly talking so nicely to me. I’m kind of scared?”
Wen Qing’s knuckles seemed to have cracked. Wei WuXian shut up at once.
and using any pretense to faint in LWJ's strong arms...
Wen Qing walked up to him and gave him a loud slap on the back, so hard that it managed to make Wei WuXian cough up a mouthful of blood. His face is full of disbelief, “You… You’re so cruel…”
After he finished, he shut his eyes and passed out. Lan WangJi’s face paled as he went to catch him, “Wei Ying!”
Wen Qing, however, revealed three silver needles, scolding, “I have crueler things that you haven’t seen yet. Get up!”
As if nothing happened, Wei WuXian got up from Lan WangJi’s arms, wiping away the blood at his mouth, “Please don’t. The cruelest is the woman’s heart. I wouldn’t want to see that.”

Zombies in MDZS
The cultivator world is absolutely frightened of Wei Wuxian’s demonic cultivation powers and is ready to turn against Wei Wuxian after the Sunshot Campaign. They fear that he’s raising an army of corpses to take over the world, doubly so after he takes the remains of the Wen Clan and flees to the Burial Mound.
Everything is pose to break down... but then Wen Ruohan’s various experiments with the yin fragments explode in the worse way, somehow turning all the dead bodies from the war and in Wen territory into zombies with a single minded focus to eat humans and turn said eaten humans into zombies in their own right.
Wei Wuxian can’t control these new zombies, but he can raise any dead bodies in advance and coat them with his resentful energy before they get infected by that odd qi flow in the Wen zombies. The Burial Mound also has a natural defense against the Web zombies for some reason.
From fearing Wei Wuxian to hailing Wei Wuxian as their only hope against the Wen zombies, the remains of the cultivation world now flock to hide behind Wei Wuxian’s corpse army.
Everything in mdzs has flipped on their heads. People have no choice but to move into the Burial Mounds and trust Wei Wuxian or be slaughtered by the large mass of zombies destroying everything.
The Jin still try to undermine Wei Wuxian, desiring to get a hold of the Tiger amulet, but a couple too close calls with the zombies make them shut up and suddenly the Jin are Wei Ying’s greatest supporters. Meng Yao is now actually seeking methods to stave off Nie Mingjue’s qi deviations because the Nie Sect Leader’s fighting prowess is still needed.
The Wen Remnants are now unsure if they can rely on Wei Wuxian anymore. They fear that Wei Wuxian has too many priorities to remember about them - to protect them - anymore, especially because none of them are fighters which is what is needed most now. They are farmers, which is well welcomed by the other sects crammed in the Burial Mounds because none of the sects know how to plant, but they can’t help Wei Wuxian in any way, not even in providing potatoes.

Prompt 38: Superheroes AU
Wei Wuxian is the infamous Yiling Laozu, a Supervillain that has been stealing classified documents from military & government officials. Lan Wangji is titled Hanguang-Jun, the Light Bearer. He's an upstanding and righteous Hero, working alongside his brother and his family on the side of Lawful Justice to stop Wen Ruohan's reign of terror. He's also Yiling Laozu's Archenemy. ___ Years ago, Wangxian got engaged. But Wei Wuxian discovered, that the government under Jin Guangshan's authority was colluding with the Wens to stay in power. They tried to buy his silence by threatening his sister, married to Jin Zixuan. So he took on a mask and swore to take them down, even if it meant siding with Villainy. He gave himself until the next elections. So he told his fiancée that he was to work overseas for 5 years, and to wait for him before disappearing from his Life. Lan Wangji was glad that Wei Wuxian was aboard, and that they kept little contact. It was harder and harder to hid his Hero work from his Love, and his ties to him would have endangered him if it had gotten out that the Light bearer was in a commitment. In the meantime, he worked harder and harder with the support of his brother and Jin Guangyao to apprehend the Yiling Laozu. Once he does, the country would be a safer place, he believed. ___ Then Yiling Laozu was gravely injured following one of their altercations. He could have lived, had he chosen to surrender to Justice and receive medical aid. That was what Hanguang-jun was aiming for. However, there was too much at stake. So he died, bleeding to death, with Lan Wangj's name on the lips despite Wen Qing's best abilities, to deliver compromising information to his brother. It did cost his Life, but that was enough to uncover the conspiracy. ___ Jin Guanghan was arrested. Jiang Yanli and her son, safe and away from the Jins. Jin Guangyao was on the run, and Lan Xichen under investigation for his willingness to collaborate with them. Wen Ruohan's Reign fell without the financial support of his greatest ally. Sandu Shengshou was hailed as the Hero behind it all, despite him being vocal about Yiling Laozu's contributions. It was mostly his brother’s work, and he might have been envious in the past but he’d never take credit for his accomplishments. While Hanguang-Jun's reputation took a serious hit for his involvement with the Jins. But that was alright, perhaps it was better this way. He always felt as if civilian Life suited him better. He always hated the thought of lying, even by omission, to his Beloved. Nie Mingjue was elected, and took great pain to get rid of the corruption. 5 years had passed. Jiang Yanli named her second child “Ying”, Jiang Cheng insisted. And Lan Wangji waited for Wei Wuxian to come home, as he promised. And waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Wei Wuxian always kept his promises. ___
Additional Notes: Jiang Wanyin deemed Lan Wangji, Hanguang-jun as the one Responsible for his brother's Death. So he never told him that he Died, and left him to wait. And per Wei Wuxian's request, he also never told him that his fiancée was Yiling Laozu. (It was a Mercy, in a way, that Lan Wangji never knew that he was the one that gave Wei Wuxian the killing blow, and that he chose to die by his hand.)

... You know, I was just thinking about Hua Mulan ChengQing AU. Hahah, ha. This movie is SOMETHING. Handkerchiefs are necessary.
oh I HEARD? but idk if i wanna see it. I’ve seen other things Liu Yifei (Mulan) was in and i don’t really like her?
NOTE: OKAY so there were some confusion!!! Before ppl get offended, anon and I are taking about two different movies. The one that anon is saying is good is Mulan (2009) an original Chinese movie BC I had been asking ppl where to watch it and received many inbox msgs about it. The Disney film is what I won't be watching for so many reasons, including bc I know the actress's work and is just unimpressed by her in general on top of all the other reasons.
Oh boy, but like...what IF it’s reverse!Mulan, aka matriarchal society. Where Jiang Cheng is the “sneak into the army for my family c”!Mulan and Wen Qing is the “I wanted to be a doctor but then the Fire Nation exploded in on itself”!Shang. And I worldbuilded for no reason...

WEN QING
Wen Ruohan was never supposed to be the Emperor, Wen Qing’s mother once told her, but the imperial court had allowed him to inherit because his late Empress Mother had no daughters to inherit the throne. As long as WRH promised to father daughters and pass on through them, then the Wen dynasty legacy would be preserved.
“What did his wife say, that her children must take his last name?” Wen Qing had asked her mother, wide eyed and curious. Her mother had shrugged and said, “Well some women don’t mind, I guess, especially if it meant her children would be heiress of the throne.”
Wen Qing had frowned at that. What’s so bad about children taking their father’s name, she wondered. Men may not be allowed the same liberties as women, may not attend public school or join the army or hold court with the Empress, but they were still children’s parents. Not all women agreed on this of course, but that was the way of their world.
Her father died of consumption some years after Wen Ning was born, but Mother never took a second husband or a concubine. Wen Qing liked that about her mother. Brave, loyal, true.
Wen Qing’s mother, Dafan-junwang, a distant relation to the throne, was a renowned marshal, hailing from a proud line of generals and marshals, trusted by the Wen imperial family as protectors of the realm, without fear of usurpation. The people whispered that Wen Qing had much to live up to, if she were to inherit her mother’s duchy and hold a command of her own.
Wen Qing never had much interest in war or martial arts, but she learned, trained, practiced and perfected her skills because she could never bear the thought of letting her mother down. In her heart (and in her free time), she learned the science and art known by father. He was a quiet man, a physician (quite skilled too), before he married her mother. He wasn’t what her grandparents would have wanted for their daughter, but Mother had been adamant.
Wen Qing’s mother hadn’t been good at expressing her love, but she did love her husband. Very much. Mother was only ever soft around Father, and Wen Qing only knew this because she’d seen them hold hands when they thought no one was watching.
Wen Ning, being the son of a wealthy aristocratic family, was destined to marry well when he came of age. Unlike girls, boys weren’t allowed to attend publicly funded scholarly schools or martial academies. Wealthy and noble families however were able to afford private tutors for their sons, so that they would know the four arts (play the qin, weiqi, literature, and art) and be elegant, competent husbands for their wives. If Wen Ning was competent enough, charming enough, and gave his wife daughters (because everyone knew it’s the men who control the sex of the baby), then she would be faithful to him -> at least that’s what their nanny said.
“How did they know, that men determined the sex of the baby?” Wen Qing asked her mother one evening when she turned thirteen and was given The Talk.
Her mother tilted her head and said as if it was the most obvious answer in the world. “My dear, women are the earth, we grow and birth life. Men are like the seeds. If you plant an apricot tree, the earth will nourish it and let it flourish, but the fruit will always be apricots, you will never have peaches.”
Once, Wen Qing had asked her mother if she could be a physician instead, if Wen Ning could take her place as general. Her mother had given her a very stern look and said, “No only is your brother of a sickly disposition, but you are my daughter. The duchy and my command can only be inherited by you. For your country, you do not have a choice.”
Wen Qing conceded, because she was good.
The days dragged on, and slowly it was becoming clear Wen Ruohan would have no daughters. Not only so, the sons he fathered were ill-mannered and haughty, unfit to rule. Wen Ruohan’s mind, too, was slowly leaving him, due to unknown reasons. The ministers of the court and notabilities of the peerage urged Wen Ruohan to take on the daughter of his cousin born of his maternal aunt, and to groom her as heir. This brought on much discontent from Wen Roohan’s two princes, who aligned themselves with lurking enemies from the north, and before anyone could mitigate the situation, the country was thrust into a full blown civil war.
Every bit her mother’s daughter, Wen Qing did not hesitate to mount her horse and ride off into battle. She had her duties and she would serve until her death.
Jiang Wanyin had a very pretty face - she would reflect in retrospect. Perhaps that was why she believed him when he showed up at her camp with a conscription missive claiming to be his older sister Jiang Yanli.
JIANG CHENG
The Jiang family was a wealthy merchant family situated southeast of the capital, in the province of Yunmeng. The current head of family is Jiang Ziyuan, known for her sharp business mind and sharp ways with her sword.
(the only reason i’m switching Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan’s last name is because it’s a matriarchal society, and Yu Cheng and Yu Yanli sounds way too awful as names, but Yu Fengmian and Jiang Ziyuan are actually not bad.)
There was a rumour that her husband Yu Fengmian of a Meishan Yu clan, had betrayed her with a wandering traveler from the pugilist world named Cangse...something something, and that he had fathered a son with her out of wedlock. If it were true, then by the conventions of the land, Jiang Ziyuan would have every legal right to divorce Yu Fengmian and send him back to his family to live out the rest of his days in seclusion, shame and repentance.
But when Yu Fengmian came to her with the little Wei Ying, freshly orphaned, Yu Ziyuan turned the boy this way and that, examined him for “abnormalities” and nodded. Then she summoned her son, and said to him, “Our manor purchased  some new indentured servants. This boys is yours from now on, he is your responsibility. Keep him in line, find some uses for him, or get rid of him.”
Jiang Cheng looked to his big sister, but his sister just shook her head. Not quite understanding what was happening, or why his father was bowed down on the floor, Jiang Cheng took his new “servant” and left.
Watching them go, Jiang Yanli then turned to her mother and said, “Muqin, if I may be so bold, I have an idea.”
Jiang Yanli was not the heiress that Jiang Ziyuan had hoped for. Though incredibly intelligent, Jiang Yanli was of poor health and not suited for martial training. Jiang Ziyuan had been quite troubled by this for some time, fearing others would cause trouble once Jiang Yanli inherits. However, she was also hesitant to train her son Jiang Cheng, even though he showed both interest and aptitude. It was not often that well to do families would want to take on a too “rambunctious” boy as groom for their daughters. Yet to leave Jiang Yanli without close protection...
“Are you thinking that boy...”
Jiang Yanli nodded. “Father denies being Wei Ying’s paternal parent, but surely tongues will waggle regardless. Mother, you are within your right to dismiss father, but he is still my father, and if not for me, think of A-Cheng. One day he will marry, and what family would want a son with a disgraced sire. Wei Ying looks healthy and strong; as I am unfortunately unable to train with the sword, mother may yet train him. Surely you’re not worried about his future marriage prospects. Perhaps it is better yet that he never marries, for he will remain close to Lotus Pier and serve at my side.”
Jiang Ziyuan listened to Jiang Yanli’s words and decided that her daughter made very valid points. Her relationship with her husband could never be repaired but she had her children’s future to consider.
And yet happiness would not last for long. Two months after Jiang Yanli’s sixteenth’s birthday, she received news that her mother’s private boat, which she used to inspect her properties, had capsized in a terrible monsoon storm, killing everyone on board.
After the news reached Lotus Pier, Yu Fengmian took his own life in the dead of night, leaving a letter stating that he had owed Jiang Ziyuan too much to repay, that though Wei Ying was not his son, he had kept secrets from her that he swore he would not reveal in this life. Now that she’s gone, he would keep her company in her journey to the beyond.
The Jiangs mourned, but they survived.
Then when the boys turned seventeen, war broke out over the lands, and the conscription missives arrived demanding one female from every household. Jiang Cheng panicked. Wei Wuxian had been sent to Gusu on business and would not return for some time. The military missive was time sensitive, so Jiang Cheng didn’t have another choice...besides it’s not like A-Jie’s matchmaking attempts for him had been all that successful...he was next to blacklisted anyway after his last debacle with the Qin girl.
Jiang Cheng decided that he could pass as a woman if he dressed properly and redid his hair, but his voice...he'd just have to pretend he could not speak. That way, no one would know.
WQ: “Who are you?”
JC *hands her his letter*
WQ: “Jiang Yanli? The Yunmeng Jiangs? Of Lotus Pier?”
JC: *nods*
Her subordinate, “I didn’t know Jiang Ziyuan’s daughter was mute, they only said she was of poor health.”
-
Luo “Mianmian” Qingyang finds out first.
Mianmian: *GASP and points* You’re a man!
JC: *covers his body* SHH!!! Turn around! Don’t look at me! *turns to look away*
Mianmian: *naked by the river ready for a bath but too shocked to move* but, but, but, how?? How did we not know????
JC: Mianmian - no- Lt. Luo, please don’t tell the Young Marshal! Please, I only came so my sister wouldn’t have to -
MM: Cowardice! It is every woman’s sworn duty to -
JC: My sister is of very delicate health. She won’t survive! She’s my late mother’s only daughter, if she dies... I’m expendable. I don’t mind being cannon fodder, please don’t report me.
-
JC shivering in the snow. “You said you trust Yanli! Why should Wanyin be any different?!”
WQ stood impassively over him with a sword at his neck. Then, she closed her eyes and turned away. “A life for a life. My debt is paid.”
---
JYL: *Proud* “A-Cheng helped secure the future of our nation. The adopted young crown princess was too young to rule without a loyal regent, and Wen Ruohan’s sons colluded with outside forces...it would have been chaos. Millions would have died.”
WWX *teasing* “Sure he brought home a sword, if you ask me he should’ve brought home a wife!”
---
JC, “W-would you like to stay for dinner - ”
WWX: WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER?
JC: Wei Wuxian! She’s regent now, be respectful!”
WQ: Dinner...sounds lovely.

the wind on another star
[On Ao3]
Lan Zhan wondered if pirates, of all things, were going to succeed where dozens of far superior fighters had tried and failed to kill him before.
The wide open void of space mocked him. Millions of escape routes within sight, and all worthless to him with a sabotaged hyperdrive and navigation system. The Hanguang-Jun was stranded in the middle of nowhere and caught in the crosshairs of a rather established band of mercenaries who doubled as pirates when they were between paid jobs.
Lan Zhan stood at the helm of his wounded starship and watched the empty escape pods drift away with so much fury he half expected them to explode.
Su She had conned his way onto Lan Zhan’s ship, hacked the navigation controls to drop them out of hyperspace and straight into the heart of a company of heavily armed mercenaries, and taken the only escape pod that he hadn’t already ejected into space.
Lan Zhan’s crew was trapped. Lan Zhan was trapped-- his ship’s weapon systems were mostly offline, brought partially back to life only by Lan Jingyi’s sheer desperation and skill. It wasn’t nearly enough to keep a dozen fighter planes and two cruisers at bay.
“Ambush,” Mianmian said tightly from beside him. “This was carefully planned, Captain.”
“What did we ever do to piss off these guys?” Lan Jingyi asked over the open comms, an edge of panic to his voice that made Lan Zhan’s mouth twist. It was his fault that his cousin was here in the first place, after all; he’d offered him a position on his ship due in part to Lan Jingyi’s skills and also to get him out of Lan Qiren’s hair. Apparently a too-clever, loud mouthed teenager trapped in the peaceful City of Clouds in Gusu had driven everyone up the wall.
He’d reminded Lan Zhan of Wei Ying-- the irrepressible character, the frequent mischief, a voice that ricocheted off of steel walls like a blaster shot. He was joy and humor and noise, a welcome change from the solemn silence aboard the Hanguang-Jun. It made him think of things loved and lost, bittersweet memories that perhaps made him more lenient with Lan Jingyi than his family would approve of.
And Lan Zhan had brought him straight into a trap, likely to be picked off by power hungry mercenaries or held as a hostage.
Even as the thought crossed his mind, the control panel beeped urgently, warning him that the cruisers had locked their missiles onto the Hanguang-Jun.
So they had decided to kill him after all.
His brother would be devastated, Lan Zhan thought distantly.
“I’ve still got the sonics,” Mianmian said, strapping herself into the copilot’s seat and reaching for the weapons controls. As his security expert and weapons master, Mianmian had seen them through insurmountable odds before; she remained as cool as ever under the flashing red warning lights. “I can pick off the missiles as they come, unless they unload several at once on us.”
“Can we use them to hit first?” Lan Jingyi asked, breathing heavily as he worked in the overheated mechanical room. “No one in the galaxy can counter Lan sonic tech.”
“They’re out of range,” Mianmian said regretfully.
“They haven’t attempted to hail us?” Lan Zhan asked, staring the largest cruiser down as it loomed over them in a blatant attempt to intimidate them. He suspected there was more at play here-- cruisers like this cost serious money, and even if simple mercenary crews got their hands on one, they didn’t keep them long. But two? Lan Zhan knew a set up when he saw it.
Lan Jingyi-- their mechanic and communications officer, because he was “skilled like that”-- made a sound of disgust. “No. So much for intergalactic law, right?”
“So many for just us,” Mianmian said, scowling out the front shield. “That’s half a damn army out there.”
The Hanguang-Jun had a reputation, though. Lan Zhan and his tiny crew went where the chaos was, and recently they’d taken on a number of jobs that had required the full force of their combined skill and strategy to survive. Except they’d not only survived, they’d demolished multiple bands of the rogue mercenaries that wandered the galaxy, terrorizing the helpless colonies too small or poor to defend themselves.
Someone had been paying attention, it seemed. And they had gone so far as to plant a spy-- Su She, hired only a week ago as extra support-- to lead them to an ambush in the middle of nowhere.
No one would know of their deaths for some time; the largest cruiser had an active jammer to block any distress signals, and Lan Zhan wasn’t due for a check in with his family for weeks.
He regretted the deaths of his crew. His friends. The loss his brother and uncle would soon face. And, privately, Lan Zhan regretted that he would never find Wei Ying. The bright, brilliant boy who’d vanished entirely after the Sunshot Wars, wherein the galaxy had come together to bring down Wen Ruohan before he could harness a sun’s energy to demolish entire planets.
So much left unsaid. But Wei Ying had broken the Wen remnants out of a prison world and disappeared into the darkness between the stars. No one knew where he’d gone. If he was alive. If they’d ever see him again.
Lan Zhan, it seemed, would never find out.
“Our shields?” He asked quietly, gripping the sleek rail separating the pilots’ seats from the rest of the control room so tightly his knuckles were white.
“In tatters,” Lan Jingyi said, trying to sound brave and landing somewhere around apprehensive. “I’m doing my best, Captain, but…”
“It’s alright,” Lan Zhan said gently. “We will try the sonic cannons.”
Mianmian’s eyes flickered to him, but she kept quiet. They both knew it would only take one missed shot to destroy their ship, and they were laughably outnumbered. But the comms were open and Lan Jingyi was listening intently from the engine room, so they kept their mutual understanding nonverbal.
“Well. It’s been an honor, Captain,” she murmured, too low for the comm line to pick up.
“For me as well,” Lan Zhan said, and dropped his hands to the pilot controls. He would try to help Mianmian dodge missiles as best he could, despite the futility of the situation.
The beeping became frantic, screaming in urgency as the second cruiser locked onto them. The cockpit was dim, lit only by the flashing warning lights that cast them in hues of red.
They waited, braced for the first burst of light that would signal a dispatched missile, surrounded on all sides, caught in a killing field with no way out.
Three bright souls on the cusp of darkness, facing a death that would leave them floating adrift in the eternal expanse of space. Not so terrible an end, he supposed, for a crew of wayfarers.
Mianmian suddenly jerked in place. “What the...?”
Lan Zhan’s attention snapped to her, wondering if he’d missed the beginning of the execution. He followed her baffled gaze, and then froze at the sight of a mid-sized, battered red cruiser dropping out of hyperspace, right on top of the armada.
He knew that cruiser. Had seen it only once, when a small collection of Wen prisoners had boarded it in the midst of a fierce storm with a slender, defiant figure guarding their escape.
The Yílíng Lǎozǔ drifted casually along, drawing the attention of the armada when its heavy artillery cannons dropped into active position. Half of the mercenaries turned their starships around to face the new threat.
“Is that who I think it is?” Mianmian whispered. Lan Zhan could not answer, though the hope in her voice matched the rising sun of his own.
“Is what who you think it is? What’s happening?” Lan Jingyi asked. They didn’t answer, too focused on the Yílíng Lǎozǔ and its unhurried course through the mercenaries’ ranks. Neither took much notice when he skidded into the cockpit to join them, breathing hard with wide, fever-bright eyes.
MianMian made a noise low in her throat when one of the cruisers disengaged their missile lock and turned it onto the Yílíng Lǎozǔ. “They’re going to get blown into pieces, why aren’t they moving out of range?”
Lan Zhan didn’t even notice the moment he stood, so tense his bones felt as though they’d shatter into pieces at a single touch. Wei Ying, what are you doing?
As if in answer, the largest cruiser angled to give chase to the Yílíng Lǎozǔ-- and exploded so abruptly and violently that Lan Zhan nearly staggered back in shock. Mianmian swore in mingled fear and delight, and Lan Jingyi exclaimed similar feelings at the top of his lungs.
“They dropped mines, did you see that?” She asked, leaning forward with bright eyes. “Completely off the radar-- we didn’t get so much as a blip, and this radar’s the only damn thing that is working on this ship.”
“Wei Ying has always been inventive,” Lan Zhan said, chest tight with something huge and undefinable.
“Fucking brilliant is what he is,” Mianmian said, and then made a face. “Don’t you dare tell him I said that.”
That implied Lan Zahn was going to see him, which promptly overrode every other thought in his head and made him feel as though he’d been struck in the head with a Lan sonic cannon.
Debris from the destroyed cruiser littered the battlefield, briefly hiding the Yílíng Lǎozǔ from sight.
“They won’t fall for that trick twice,” Mianmian muttered, leaning forward. “Careful, now.”
And then, so suddenly Lan Zhan and Mianmian made twin noises of shock, the starships closest to the Hanguang-Jun exploded. He thought at first it was another trick with the mines, but--
A ripple of darkness rocketed past the nose of their ship, far too fast to track. It was utterly undetectable except for the trail of destruction it left behind. The starship moved at impossible speeds; not even the Nie’s most advanced fighters could move like that, and they were the foremost engineers in the galaxy.
It took another moment, during which starships blew up like a pre-planned chain reaction, for Lan Zhan to realize there were two of these ships-- starfighters, combat aircraft built for speed and stealth. They worked off of each other like they were a hive mind, targeting clusters of enemy ships and annihilating them with some unknown invisible weapon that pulverized the ships into fragments.
A series of explosions along the remaining cruiser nearly tore it in half. Lan Jingyi whooped as it careened wildly out of control and erupted into blinding light.
Lan Zhan’s focus, though, was drawn inexplicably to the shimmer of darkness flitting through the ranks of the armada, slipping into impossibly narrow spaces, performing acrobatics that only someone absolutely fearless would even dream of.
Wei Ying had always taken “attempt the impossible” to heart.
“Look!” Lan Jingyi exclaimed, pointing outside their windshield to a furrow in the black void of space. A third ship, this one hovering just beside the Hanguang-Jun as a clear threat-- come any closer, and you’d be decimated like the rest of the ruined armada. Lan Jingyi waved, and the ripple of black dipped low and then back into place.
“What kind of weapon is that?” Mianmian wondered, watching in awe as a single shot from one of Wei Ying’s starfighters dissolved a starship into particles.
Lan Zhan remembered Wei Ying’s theories on dark matter, and he wondered.
It did not take long for the battle to end. None of the ships even had a chance to escape, and any that tried were chased down within a few heartbeats and destroyed.
The communications system blipped as the two starfighters finished off the remaining enemies. Lan Jingyi looked at Lan Zhan in question, who nodded and waited for him to open the channel to say, “This is Lan Zhan, Captain of the Hanguang-Jun.”
“Hello, Captain,” someone replied. A young man, by the sounds of it, and politely cheerful. “Our captain has asked me to escort you to the Yílíng Lǎozǔ, if you are amenable.”
That was almost certainly not the way Wei Ying had likely worded it. Lan Zhan found himself wanting to smile. “I am amenable,” he said. “My ship is badly damaged and in need of repair.”
“We can help with that,” the boy replied, and was then interrupted by a voice that made Lan Zhan’s stomach swoop violently.
“Lan Zhan! Are you really going to let me put my grubby hands all over your shiny ship?”
He closed his eyes, emotion swelling in his chest. “Wei Ying can put his hands on anything of mine he wishes,” he said calmly, and meant every word.
He heard a squawk, a faint crash followed by an angry beep, and then a third voice calling in concern, “Wei-gongzi!”
“I’m fine, Wen Ning,” Wei Ying said hastily. Lan Zhan eyed the small piece of debris spinning away into the void, as though it had been clipped by the wing of a starfighter, perhaps.
“Ah,” Wei Ying laughed. “Lan Zhan, I didn’t expect you to have jokes now! I’ve missed a lot, it seems.”
“I have missed more.” Too much, if Wei Ying had made advancements like this; he’d clearly discovered some secret to the universe and left the rest of them far behind.
Lan Zhan had let him slip between his fingers once before. He was tired of being left behind.
“Wen Qing is bringing the Yílíng Lǎozǔ to you,” Wei Ying said with more warmth than Lan Zhan deserved. He had, after all, let Wei Ying down all those years ago. “I’ll see you soon, Lan Zhan.”
“Soon,” Lan Zhan agreed, and let the comm line fall to silence.
Soon. He felt his heart skip a beat in anticipation. Soon he would be face to face with Wei Ying again, the boy he’d loved and lost before he truly understood the potential for what it was, too busy being offended by the concept of his own stupid infatuation.
Soon, Lan Zhan thought again, and his tiny, hopeful smile was witnessed solely by the blanket of darkness and the glittering, luminous lights of a nearby star. A secret of his own, held between him and a universe full of possibility.

hi! there was this fic on ao3 i loved to read about half dragon wei ying who tries to court lan zhan in both forms and there's some misunderstandings. it's also kind of canon adjacent? i cant find it anymore, but if you know what happened or what it's called could you tell me?
The only one I have read that features a wei wuxian dragon (rather than dragon!lwj) is this one, although I don’t quite think it’s the one you’re looking for:
Of Skin and Scales
by firesonic152
E, 21k, wangxian, [my post here]
Summary:  It was a dragon, Lan Zhan thought dizzily.
He brought his hand to cup its face and distantly supposed that he should have been frightened at some point during this encounter. But the dragon leaned into his touch, intelligent eyes blinking down at him owlishly, and all he could think was how beautiful it was.
(The state of Wei WuXian’s shape never mattered. Human or not, Lan WangJi falls in love.)
~*~ FOUND ~*~
@akinohikari knew this one, and I’m excited about it, since I like this author:
no other cloud compares to you
by ectocosme
M, 125k, wangxian
Summary:  Divine beasts sometimes fall in love with humans. Half-divine beast most often than not. Dragons always. Wei Wuxian visits Cloud Recesses when he receives the first 'hail' of who will become his mate. At least, he is determined for them to become mates.
But life does not flow as the river, it is a meandering stream easily disturbed.

I've never heard about those fanfic tropes, can i bother you with some recs? (If it's not too much to ask and if you have them)
No worries! I got you! I even added a few other fic's that are my fave's for this fandom!
These are all surprisingly safe for work, mostly fluff but these are my go to's lol
5 Times People Realize That YJ is Batman's Team
It is common knowledge that Batman bends the rules of being a superhero by some of the stuff he does. Especially when he is interrogating someone for information. Even the Justice League are somewhat disturbed by his "methods" on occasion. So seeing as he probably helps train YJ along with Black Canary...
5 times it shows that Batman is the team's mentor and 1 time the mentors try and do something about it.
uaigneach - Ao3
Outsiders Looking In
The team is so used to communicating telepathically that they could practically do it in their sleep; drabbles from the perspective of the Leaguers as they notice the silence that is Young Justice.
justafandomfollower - Ao3
One of the SixTeens
The mentors have to face a horrible, horrible realization: even though their former-sidekicks are still nominally their partners, the members of Young Justice are all pretty much Batman's.

Just Like Bad Wallpaper
Somehow, it seems that every time he turns his back, another teen moves into his Manor. Basically, five times Bruce adopted a superkid without his knowledge, and that one time he did it on purpose.
midnightluck - Fanfiction.net
Impromptu Sleepovers
Set in the five year time lapse. All cannon pairings from then. Summary: When the team just can't go on, they figure out who's house is nearest and go there to sleep, debriefing can wait. And Robin's not the only troll in the Superhero family. Could also be: Five times the team slept over at a random place, and one where the League does.

Kids
Take away ten years from teenagers with masks, put their mentors in the same room as them, and watch as the world goes crazy. Only Superman is equipped enough to handle the Superboy now, and Robin won't let go of his favourite security blanket
Glimare - Fanfiction.net
Kids 2-0
The team comes back to the mountain to a group of five year olds. Unfortunately they're all Leaguers. It's funnier for some than others. And those who are usually scary, are somehow overly cute. Pre-misplaced.
Glimare - Fanfiction.net
Kids 3-0
Gamma squad didn't come back when they were supposed to. They didn't answer their hails either. But that's alright! Because Nightwing and his friends found out why. All four members of that squad were toddlers. Beastboy won't hold still, Impulse wants his grandparents, Wonder Girl's being shy, and 'Wobin' is just trying to communicate.
Glimare - Fanfiction.net
Kids These Days
Several members of the Justice League are deaged. The team are given babysitting duties while the rest of the League looks for a cure. It would be easier if they hadn't kept their powers.

Which pairings would fit here? 👀
"bottoms who come extremely easily x tops who can go all night and will make them keep up with them"
The ones that instantly come to mind are: Stiles/Derek [Teen Wolf], Wei Ying/Lan Zhan [MDZS], Jaskier/Geralt[The Witcher]

About the chemistry in arrowverse, i was just telling my friend that olivarry has the "occasional friends with benefits" vibe meanwhile coldflash has the "Enemies to allies to fuck buddies" vibe
You're right and you should say it.

Peter hale/stiles stilinski
6, 19, 5, 10, 23
6. Who would they ask if they ever had a threesome?
Chris Argent. Stiles would be sandwiched between two silver foxes and be quite pleased about it. The two men would sass and try to outdo each other in taking Stiles apart.
5. Who says ‘I love you’ first?
Peter actually. He would be a little shit about it, but he would mean it and Stiles would be bright red and grinning like an idiot by the end of his sassy but honest speech because Peter would have a speech and have a big reveal. He's a dramatic ass hoe after all.
19. Where do they go on their first date?
A high-class restaurant out of town where Peter knows the owner because of course does. Stiles is impressed with all of it and realizes that while he's more or less being treated like a sugar baby, he's totally fine with that and rolls with it.
10. What two songs, two books and two luxury items do they take to a desert island?
....I literally have nothing for this, sorry guys.
23. Where is their favourite place to be together?
Peter's loft, it's a fancy and luxurious place and it's super private so the two can have all the loud, kinky sex they want with no one to judge.

dick/bruce
1, 6, 23, 15, 19, 7, 10, 26
1. Who makes the first move and how?
Dick did and has to work hard to make sure Bruce sees him as an adult and not the boy with who he was partnered with. It takes some time and lots of flirting and getting caught on purpose with men for Bruce to finally snap and take Dick up on his offer.
6. Who would they ask if they ever had a threesome?
Clark. Bruce wouldn't trust anyone else with Dick and himself but Clark and he does want to see Dick spread out and fucked stupid on Clark's big cock. It's a nice image he wants to come true.
23. Where is their favourite place to be together?
On the rooftops, flying across Gotham together, with no crime, just the two of them.
15. When they watch a film what do they choose and why? Who gets the final vote?
Dick always gets first and final vote, it's always him who suggests the movie night and Bruce is fine with whatever because it means that He gets to hold Dick close and hope that the movie night turns into a make-out session.
19. Where do they go on their first date?
Sitting on the top of Wayne Tower, feet dangling and watch the sun set/rise.
7. What do they get up to on a night out?
They try to go out to do something normal, but it ends with them in uniform fighting crime and then a quickie in an alleyway before heading home.
26. Why do they need to have a serious chat?
Usually, before a mission that there is chance, it could go wrong, undercover or off world.
