ramblings about how winter king is not a simon but an ice king from my insta story. no idea how much sense this makes

Not to post a serious analysis of mr oncest bait, but it's kind of... *wrong* to say the winter king is Simon? I think it's more accurate to call him an ice king who THINKS he's Simon. His whole bit is that he removed the madness of the crown from himself, but the ice king isn't just "simon but crazy". The ice king is the result of the wish crown's curse over the span of 1000 years breaking down Simon's psyche and replacing and warping and mixing it with Evergreen (specifically Gunther's warped view of him) and adding more madness and sadness till he basically experiences ego death. We know our Simon (at least at this point) considers he and ice king separate entities. They have pretty different personalities

Winter king is more like ice king than Simon:

* Physical stuff. Obviously. He's taller, has longer straighter hair, and is fucking bright blue+ still has evergreen's nose LOL. But also smaller stuff like the fact he dresses different and has different shaped glasses

* WAYYYYY more outgoing. Even before All That, Simon doesn't seem like the most outgoing guy. He would go on expeditions yes but could you imagine that guy throwing a party? No.

* Way more selfish and self absorbed. Which is in line with ice king, but now he's conventionally attractive so everyone else agrees. This is opposed to the fact Simon want to khs

* No consideration for PB. This is an interesting one, because it's the first departure from both our Simon and IK. Obviously ice king was terrible to PB LOL but like....he liked her.....because she was like betty..... And now Simon really respects her (and feels terrible about it.) while WK straight up does NOT care about her. Different from both, but closer to IK because he is a dickweed

* Deals with emotions differently than Simon. Seems to have completely blocked Betty out (assuming they were still close in this universe). And marceline bro... whatever happened there, ice marcy is the KID version of her. He has her bass, so she at least grew up and they've interacted. Maybe she saw him get "fixed" and was like. Wow! You're not Simon!

* The name. Fionna's dream has the "ice prince", and that's what she calls Simon upon meeting him for the first time. If this was a True Simon, it would make more sense for him to be called the ice prince in universe, no? But he keeps the King title.

Simon spends a lot of the episode jealous of the winter king because he seems so well adiusted while he has the crown.

Simon has no magic, no nothing, but at least he has his brain back. The crown is very much directly linked to his loss of identity and to see WK be CONSCIOUS and LIKED and seemingly HIMSELF with magic is something he desperately wants especially at a time like this when his mental health is down the shitter while everyone talks about how much more fun he was when he was legitimately insane

The difference is that Simon spent every *conscious* moment FIGHTING the crown. Winter king is NOT fighting that shit. He says that he "conquered" it, but no you did not buddy. He is still dependent on it. He cannot survive without it. He just gave up. He's accepted that he's become one with it instead. So did ice king. Except without the madness of ice king, he can be a semi functional human being. He still gets the high of the crown and all its power, but this doesn't change the fact it Changed Who He IS.

Doesn't fucking matter rn becauee Simon hates himself and wants to be someone else but you get the idea. Winter king is just a version of Ice King LARPing as Simon. He can just do this way more convincingly even to himself because he can actually think now

Like “Betty? OH HAHA THE DEAD ONE” is an ice king ass reply and I swear to god at least part of the reason they didn’t get Tom Kenny to do his voice is because it would just be ice king’s voice again

also in regards to why candy queen is like that-Okay one, this goes with the name thing. Princess bubblegum. Normal. Candy Queen. Insane. Same as winter/ice king and ice prince. We cool?

Anyway

The Madness manifested in Simon/ice king in regards to Betty as romantic obsession. With the madness gone, CQ is the one feeling the brunt of these feelings- which would explain why Winter king doesn't remember feeling so Strongly about betty. Because Simon's feelings about her are naturally just fucking insane, it's so intertwined with the Madness that when that part is removed, so are any feelings towards Betty.

CQ is probably also obsessed with WK and "being together" because the sane part of her mind recognises that this madness is HIS and this is her fucked uo way of trying to like. Give it back.

MAWS - An Allegory for Autism, too?

God like…there have been so many amazing posts about maws right now, and I don’t want to detract from any of them because I absolutely agree with how powerful an allegory the show is in regards to being an immigrant/alien.

But at the same time I just. I have been literally losing my mind at how autistic Clark feels. And at this point I can’t tell if I’m seeing things that aren’t there or he really is just so god damn ‘tism it makes his experiences of being othered two- and triplefold.

Like. Okay. He keeps acting on what he thinks is just or morally right in the moment, but sometimes struggles to see the social signals (or bigger picture) that might indicate somebody is deceiving him. If he does realize he’s being deceived, he does the right thing anyway even if it’s to his detriment--because he can’t accept looking away from a problem he might have resolved. Helping someone, no matter how difficult or unreasonable.

Okay.

When he’s trying to protect himself from Lois. He tells the truth in the most evasive way humanly possible, and because he thinks she’ll find him dashing from saving people he comes off as dissembling. He is convinced that he has charmed her to no end with his alter ego since he’s Such A Super Cool Strong Normal Guy as Superman, and that she couldn’t possibly be suspicious any longer because he told the truth. Lois wants to throttle him for lying. He has no idea as to why that is--and is openly surprised that she’s upset.

This is not even touching the fact that he lived for YEARS with Jimmy and literally destroyed stuff in front of him by accident, and never once thought Jimmy knew some shit was going on with him. Jimmy, being subtle and considerate, didn’t snitch because he was a homie. Clark does not notice in the slightest. ‘IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE SCREWS’ ASS.

This also not touching on the “How did you know you were bulletproof?” “I didn’t. I just knew you weren’t.” Despite pervasive signs that his powers weren’t operating as they should in that area. Despite knowing Lois was still upset with him and may not forgive him, could hurt him with what she knew.

Okay.

I'm going to put the rest under a cut because I never go on short tangents:

In a lot of New Age illegitimate medicine and psychological constructs, autistics are often conceptualized as people with ‘special powers’ or religious enlightenment in accordance with some manifestations of their disability. Clark’s superspeed and strength and heat vision can EASILY be seen as an extension of that. However, what I really want to talk about is the latest episode’s super hearing.

Most autistics have sensory issues, both with textures but also with hearing. A very common surprise for undiagnosed individuals, for example, is that they use music and headphones to stim in a more socially acceptable way. Particularly loud noises or constant loud chatter can cause distress otherwise, and having constant meltdowns/catatonia reactions isn’t feasible for survival.

Of all his powers that might be a weakness I think it is a fascinating--and honestly, deliberate--choice that speaks volumes (please pardon the pun). Because that’s the horrible thing about having sensory overload with your hearing; you don’t always have a choice as to what you’re subjected to. Ear-piercing alarms can flare at any moment, people can play what they consider harmless pranks, or day to day fighting to focus can make every sound feel like nails on a chalkboard from the overstimulation.

While Clark is able to distinguish voices if he knows what to look for, lack of sleep and rest tremendously weaken his ability to focus. I noticed that as the episode wore on, there was a distinct and exponential progression. At first, when he overdid it and didn’t sleep for a day or so, he still managed to operate without hurting himself or risking others. But as he kept pushing himself without rest to answer every cry for help, he grew progressively and sharply overwhelmed. He quickly became overstimulated by the mounting flurry of oncoming stimuli (e.g. the truck about to hit someone, dodging people around him, the relentless super hearing flooding in) and began to react in ways that were careless and random.

Though his powers appear supernatural and inexhaustible, we are forced to face the fact that he still possesses hard limits. Even if autistics seem more capable than NTs at points, there is a reason “high-functioning” became an obsolete terminology with which to differentiate people on the spectrum ‘who seemed to be above average’. Because just as we see Clark forcing himself to exert his superpowers until his body collapses to prove he is good, autistics also push themselves to be useful/helpful/amenable/inobtrusive in order to be accepted as something not other/monstrous.

(Please note, by the way, towards the end of the newest episode--his power comes out in a flash of blue, overpowering light as the last of his strength begins to wane. A surefire sign that he was truly at the end of his endurance before he’s knocked unconscious.)

The fact that Clark starts to learn how to listen in for people so fast, but also doesn’t think to tune them out (if he can) adds even more to the first point too. Because he can’t turn it off in full, it means he has no way to ignore people who are hurting no matter how small--and for him that places the cognitive burden of making a choice. And he can’t choose not to help people.

Okay.

Clark’s incipient refusal to discover more about himself, the sheer overwhelmed look he had as a child--but also as an adult--at the prospect of having to rewrite and re-evaluate everything he thought he knew about himself. There is no excitement, no positive anticipation. When he chooses to face it, it’s because he perceives a kind of responsibility to better understand/control his powers to help more people. And it’s because his friends support him that he ever finds the will to do it. He has no desire to acknowledge or define his otherness head-on. (Once again, he can only act with courage on behalf of others and/or to ultimately win their acceptance.)

GOD. AND. AND how he tells Lois how much she made him “come out of his shell” and forced him to face the world, to stop living in his formerly simple bubble. How autistics instinctively hate breaks in routine and the unknown and the horrible ordeal of change, especially if they have trauma linked to it. But he was trying because yeah, as people we need new and varying stimuli to be happy and healthy. To be alive is to change, whether one likes it or not.

How part of the reason Lois is so dear to him is because she makes him feel capable and safe when he has to face the truth of his difference and change. (THIS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE LATEST EPISODE. “CLARK, JUST TRY TO BE NORMAL”. I’M EATING MY SHIRT. THE ENDLESS OSCILLATION BETWEEN HIS DESPERATION TO BE NORMAL BUT ALSO STRIVE FOR MORE, AND HOW LOIS ANSWERS BOTH THOSE WARRING CALLS WITHIN HIM JUST BY BEING HERSELF.)

SCREAMS.

Okay.

The most recent episode being a direct result of Lois and Jimmy’s acceptance of his alter ego Superman. Because of course Superman is the preferred variation of himself. Everyone loves Superman. Everyone finds him cool and heroic and dazzling. Jimmy gets social media acclaim that he enjoys from it. Lois has a Cool Guy Boyfriend, and she told him outright she thinks he’s amazing in the last episode when he complained about being weird.

Why go back to being Clark? Under the unending burden of his new super hearing, he seems to be so drowned in voices that he forgets a very important one: Lois. She loved him as Clark long before Superman existed, the lumbering gentle giant who always treated people with dignity and respect was more than enough for her to fall in love. And that’s why it’s so poignant, but also so unbelievably devastating when she asks him to be normal in the newest episode.

Because what she was trying to say was “Please stop overexerting yourself, you’re hurting yourself. This is only going to end badly if you don’t rest and think about how you want to move forward. You’re enough as you are. You’re enough as Clark Kent.” She was trying to tell him that Superman isn’t all that matters, that Superman is a person with feelings and needs and vulnerabilities, just like anyone else.

What makes this miscommunication so powerful to me is that it’s clear Clark’s ability to differentiate has become confused ever since Lois and Jimmy accepted him. How much of him is Clark, how much of him is Superman? Before, when he had decided Superman was too much for him to handle and something that needed to stay hidden, he knew how to behave day to day. But now that the aforementioned operating precept has been dismantled by their acceptance, what is his blueprint now? To be freed of his chains, but to be too afraid to leave the cage--he becomes so openly and rapidly lost. It was easier when he didn’t have to choose or think about it.

Okay.

Like. I can see how it could be construed as a result of his inexperience, right? He’s never met intergalactic beings, so how would he know? He only just unlocked his powers as Superman, so of course he’s clumsy about it. He wasn’t a born fighter or a trained one, so of course he’s going to be a little green when he’s in combat.

But that’s the thing for me. It’s not that he doesn’t always have the time to re-evaluate, or strategize, or notice he’s being deceived. He just has such an unwavering sensibility, this one-track sense of “I am strong. So I must protect. And to do that I need to act.” And a lot of times this is as far as his thinking goes. And if that isn’t the most autistic shit imaginable, I’m really not sure what is.

The overshot clumsiness of his movements and occasional awkwardness, how he’s learned to smooth that over by being helpful to people or meek to be accepted. Like. I swear to god this show is going to kill me.

So much of the reason he tanked so badly in this episode was because he was using a broken coping mechanism to its absolute extreme. And instead of listening to his bodily and mental signals that he could no longer sustain helping every single person in the world, he just forces himself to push through. He’s so desperate to prove he’s a good person and belong, he doesn’t notice that it’s literally destroying him from the inside.

The mask that is Superman, and the unmasking that is the mindful and imperfect Clark Kent. That everyone adores Superman and wants him to fulfill their every need, no matter what it costs him to be that person. The fact that the moment they learn he’s an alien or see the raw extent of his power (pushed to unsustainable limits in desperation) he becomes a horrible, inhuman threat and a monster. The fact that it’s his friends and his family who see him unmasked as Clark and love him just as he is, that they care little for what Superman can give them because Clark is already enough. That they love Clark precisely BECAUSE he is somebody with weaknesses and flaws and imperfections, that adore his quirks and endearing fumbling.

The horrific reality that the more he leans into his masking out of desperation to be accepted, the more he estranges and incites violent rejection in the people around him. Even if he wants to do the right thing, he is so staunchly and too openly opposed to the malice of others that they hold grudges from the stark, exposing contrast. How choosing to be Superman can endanger and estrange the people who love Clark, isolating him even further. And yet when he is unmasked and acts like himself, he is hardly ever taken seriously or people take advantage of his meekness/willingness to help.

The first episode. When he just keeps chanting ‘be normal be normal be normal’ and the more pressure he puts on himself, the more he hyperfixates and the less his actions align with his intentions. The way he can never do both and can only manage to sustain one at a time. The core conflict that’s ever present; the desire to be ordinary under the reality that you are extraordinary, with the agonizing knowledge that you never had the choice to live under so much difference and scrutiny.

The never-ending autistic battle of being socially acceptable to the detriment of your greatest virtues: your passion and your honesty. To be left feeling empty and drained despite your success, no closer to self-satisfaction or feelings of human camaraderie. The reality of being always forced to choose between one bad option and a worse one, that the only choice you have is what you’re willing to sacrifice. That people will toy with your vulnerabilities no matter how desperately you try to conceal them, how your weaknesses will be a game or a spectacle to the rest of the world.

How one has to wonder to what degree the Superman witnessed in Lois’ memory capsule was pushed to the very brink. Or the pointed lack of context: what brought him to such extremes, what could inspire so much indifference to the pain of others? How, while it is frightening, he is a person just like anyone else--who possesses the potential for raw good and raw bad. Why is it that everyone so easily believes that his potential will be negative? Why is it so difficult to have faith in someone who is trying so hard to be good?

The irony of Clark’s predicament, that the sincere fulfillment he feels upon helping others is precisely what inspires fear in those who insist on their comparative self-serving normality.

“What’s your angle!? What’s in it for you?” “Trust me, kids. Nobody puts on that big a show of being good. Unless they’re hiding something…All he wants is to pull cats out of trees? Yeah, I’m not buying it.” “He’s not normal like you and me….If he really wanted to hurt us, what could we do about it?...Just him having a bad day could spell the end for us…Well, not all of us share your faith.” “You want to be number one? You don’t get there by writing fluff. You go for blood. That’s something Perry never understood. Do you?”

The unbearable but inevitable fact that being autistic is a perpetual experience of loss. If you are not selfish or egocentric like the rest of the world, you are naive and weak. If you exhibit an ounce of self-centered desire or emotion, you are something that must be eradicated for the greater good. No amount of good that you accomplish can ever balance the scales of what has been lost or spent to sustain you, because at the end of the day your life is considered one without value. It is irrelevant that entire military regimes have collectively decimated and endangered thousands for their so-called “results”, because you as a sole actor are so much easier to blame and trample.

The enduring fact, especially in a culture so absorbed in easy answers and harsh binaries, that the human mind does not care for the struggle of truth.

Wardrobe Malfunction Reaction

BTS/FemIdol!Reader

Warnings: Wardrobe malfunction, crying, being upset, being exposed accidentally. Some are angst and some are fluff. I think thats it.

Kim Seokjin

You and your group were performing at an event in an open topped arena, along with many other groups.

It was extremely windy that day, and wind mixed with short skirts was never a good thing. You all spent the entire performance holding down your skirts and holding back laughter.

As you all ran off stage, you saw BTS waiting in the wings for their turn to perform. Jin was waiting with open arms, smiling widely.

‘Oh my God that was so embarrassing!’ You laughed as you ran into his arms. He laughed back, both of you able to find humour in the situation.

‘You handled it so well though. Nobody was able to catch anything.’

‘They better not have seen! Or our stylist will have a lot to answer for!’

‘Jagi don’t be dramatic. You have shorts on underneath!’ He jokingly flipped your skirt up to prove his point.

‘YAH! Have you lost your mind?’ You whacked his arm as he let out a hearty laugh. ‘You are sleeping on the sofa tonight mister.’

Min Yoongi

As you were performing you could feel the zip on your dress slowly slipping down your back. You didn’t think much of it at first, but as it slipped further, you quickly reached back and held it together the best you could at the awkward angle. You also weren’t able to wear a bra with this specific dress, so there was a lot on the line.

You could see the shocked faces of the crowd as you finished your performance. You kept your head down as you ran off stage, wanting to get to your dressing room as soon as possible, until you felt someone grab your arm.

‘Hey. Let me help.’ You spun round to see the concerned face of your boyfriend. He was stood with the other BTS members, who had all adverted their gaze respectfully. You nodded thankfully and he lead you to a secluded corner and proceeded to zip up your dress, with a surprising amount of difficulty. He made an annoyed face.

‘Why is your stylist giving you clothes that don’t fit?’ You turned round and buried your face into his chest.

‘I’m so embarrassed’ You cried into his shirt. He sighed sadly.

‘There’s no need to be-‘

‘Everybody saw!’ You cut him off sharply. Undeterred, he took your face in his hands and wiped away a tear with his thumb.

‘I promise you, nobody saw anything they shouldn’t have, and you handled yourself so professionally too.’ You nodded, though you were still unsure.

When you saw the broadcast, they had been considerate enough to edit in a way so that the wardrobe malfunction was barely even visible. If people in the studio saw, there had been no footage released of the incident and you hoped it stayed that way.

Jung Hoseok

It was the day after the awards show when the photos were released. You and Hoseok had arrived together, and just as he was helping you from the car, you had accidentally flashed your underwear, which you weren’t even aware you did until the following day.

Some a-hole photographers took advantage of you in that vulnerable moment, so they could get an easy pay check.

‘Hobi... How could I have been so careless?’ You whispered out, trying hard not to cry. Hoseok slammed the laptop closed before sitting next to you and taking your hand.

‘Don’t speak like that. It’s not your fault that some perverts saw and took an opportunity.’ You nodded sadly but didn’t speak.

‘Plus both yours and my fans have been mass reporting the images. Everybody is on your side jagi.’ He rubbed your arms soothingly. Hoseok was trying his best to comfort you, but he didn’t think it was working. He himself had put out a cryptic post on his own Instagram, basically calling out predatory photographers, against the company’s wishes no less. But he knew you wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about the situation until every last one of those images were officially scrubbed from the internet....

Kim Namjoon

Your group and BTS were sat besides each other at the awards show, with you and Namjoon bridging the gap in the middle.

Everyone was waiting for them to announce the winners of the current category. You didn’t even know what the current one was, they all kind of mesh together after a while.

Namjoon had his hand on your knee and was whispering things to you that should never be uttered in a public setting when suddenly, your groups name was called, causing you all to jump up in surprise. Only, when you jumped up, Namjoon’s hand came with you. His ring was stuck to your fishnet tights!

‘Joon what have you done!?’ You laughed as you tried your best to free yourself.

‘I didn’t mean to! And you guys are no help!’ Referring to the sniggering BTS members doing nothing to help their leader. You finally managed to get unsnagged and ran to your other members who were already on stage with the award.

‘Sorry I’m late!’ You spoke into the microphone. ‘Wardrobe malfunction!’

Park Jimin

One of the downsides of being a female idol, was dancing in heels. Usually it was only for televised or awards shows you wore heels to dance, but either way you had gotten used to them over the years.

Your group was currently performing on stage for a televised show. There were many idol groups in the audience, but you always managed to spot Jimin in the crowd, cheering you on loudly.

Everything was going smoothly, until you suddenly found yourself on the ground. There was a shoked gasp from the crowd, and your group members were looking on with wide eyes, but they had to carry on. It was then tat you felt searing pain in your ankle. Looking down, you saw your heel had somehow snapped in half and your ankle was now sitting at an odd angle. It was obvious you couldn’t continue to perform. You were trying your hardest to not scream out in pain, but that was easier said than done.

A few stage hands ran out on stage and whisked you away to the medical room.

You were sat on the medical bed, ankle wrapped up and feeling sorry for yourself, when Jimin burst into the room, running over and enveloping you into a hug.

‘You’re one to talk about performing whilst unwell.’ You retorted smirking, knowing he couldn’t argue. Jimin flopped down in the chair and crossed his arms with a pout. You had won this round.

Kim Taehyung

Both your group and BTS were attending an American awards show. Since you and Tae were dating, your groups had been close to each other the entire evening. At some point, you and Tae had wondered off a little ahead of the group arm in arm, when you suddenly heard frantic screaming and shouting coming from behind you.

Just as you spun round to see what was going on, you and Tae were knocked to the ground by a girl, excitedly exclaiming about how much she loved you.

As soon as she made contact she was pulled away, though not without taking a chunk of your dress with her. The damaged front of your dress slipped down, exposing the top of your breast before you quickly bought your hand up to cover yourself.

There was so much commotion around you didn’t know what was happening.

‘Jagi your dress!’ Taehyung hissed out, draping his jacket over your shoulders, which you pulled tight. He quickly helped you up, before both of you were lead to a back room by staff.

Taehyung was fuming when you were settled in the private room.

‘What the hell happened? What if she had a knife or something!?’ He yelled at the poor attendant who was profusely apologising.

‘Tae...’ You whispered meekly, catching his attention. He came and sat next to you, rubbing your back.

‘Did anyone see?’ You were afraid to ask, but he knew what you meant.

‘No jagi. You covered up in time..’ He was quick to reassure you.

‘But what if I didn’t though? Oh God.’ You covered your face as you began sobbing. All he could do was try his best to comfort and reassure you that nobody saw anything.

Either way, once he found out who screwed up, he would make sure they no longer had a job.

Jeon Jungkook

You were performing on an outdoor stage. Weather had been predicted to be sunny and clear, but in reality it was coming down so bad that there was talk of cancelling, though with only 1 song left there didn’t seem to be much point.

Unfortunately, what you were wearing had completely slipped your mind. If it were sunny and dry it would have been fine, but in the pouring rain...

You just so happened to glance to the wings where Jungkook was standing, only to see him wide eyed and gesturing up and down his body. It was only then that you looked down at yourself and all the blood drained from your face.

Your WHITE dress had become completely see through from the rain, and your light pink bra and pants were on display.

You froze in place, dread completely taking you over. Hesitantly, you glanced up to the crowd. Your worst fears came true when you saw hundreds of wide eyes and open mouth gaping up at you.

You burst out crying and ran off stage, performance be damned and tried your best to conceal yourself.

Jungkook captured you in a hug backstage, and some helpful stylists ran over and basically threw a couple blankets over your head, to cover your modesty.

‘It’s ok jagi.’ Jungkook comforted you as he quickly lead you away from prying eyes.

‘It’s not ok! Don’t tell me it’s ok when you weren’t the one on display for the whole world to see!’

Jungkook stood wide eyed as you screamed at him. You pushed him away roughly and stalked off alone, clutching the blankets close to your body. Jungkook wouldn’t take your tone personally. He knew you were upset and needed time.

He would do everything he could, pay as many lawyers as he needed to, to make sure that the footage of you never saw the light of day.

toya is an interesting person, it's hard to tell what he's thinking, but besides that, you still love him.

he loves by being considerate without you asking. one time, he heard you were having difficulties with an exam. so he came over and studied— even if he was tired, he's still considering you. motivating you even though your also tired.

he loves by giving you gifts as appreciation. we all know toya has a habit of literally winning a lot of stuff in arcades, so most of his winnings go mostly to you. you know, your plushies have their own bed now because of him.

he loves by reassuring you with anything and everything. telling you even when you're stuggling, bad times and good times, that he's still in love with you, even in arguments. tells you he'll still love you as you are whenever your too shy. tells you it's okay to make mistakes.

he loves by doing what he dislikes the most just for you. even if you never asked for it. you could say you love piano covers and suddenly he sends you a recording of him playing your favorite song on the piano even though it brings him unpleasant memories, he knows you'd never do something he doesn't like, but he can't help but do it for the person he loves.

rui is also an interesting person. you question him sometimes, but you still love him.

he loves by flirting with you. will stop if you're uncomfortable of course, but if you aren't, pickup lines are daily. and it isn't those weird cheesy ones. it's the ones that come out of no where. when you say something— he always has a pick up line to say. it's a 6th sense at this point.

he loves by listening to you. when you tell him to eat and stop being picky, he's pouting while eating vegetables. listening to you also means while you're sad. he's all ears. giving advice there and then unless you only want him to listen. and he's greatful that you're willing to share with him.

he loves by always willing to help you with anything. especially with robotics if you take it. he's really smart, you know. but he just.. doesn't use his smartness well if you know what I mean. if you two listen enough in class, then you two are definitely passing.

he loves by always noticing you when you're left out. he sees your trying to talk but other people keep interrupting. suddenly his voice gradually gets loulder when he says "ah wait [name], what were you trying to say?" always considering you even in moments like these, and you always appreciate it.

There are many people saying that working with Queen Lilith is closed, id ask that you please go to the last link. A Jewish content creator goes into detail about why 1.) That's false and 2.) Why claiming this is actually antisemitic.

I understand that this deity may hold a negative context to different people/cultures(i.e. people of Jewish culture)/faiths etc. Please be respectful and mindful. Both the people and the divinity have the right to respect. Just because a divinity/entity has been the best thing in the world to you, doesn’t mean that’s the case for someone else(vice versa). Thank you for your consideration.

Mother Lilith is a divinity that I hold very dear. She has been a big help to me and has guided me in my journery of self love and reparenting myself.

Lore/mythology (briefly summarized)

Lilith originally was the first wife of Adam; made from the same primordial matter as her counterpart by the one who created her. She has left the garden in anger because she refused to lay under Adam; Lilith wanted to be seen as Adams equal but he refused. God sent angels to take Lilith back to Eden at Adam’s request. She was located near/in/at the Red Sea. Her children had been slain because of her refusal to return. ( I have heard conflicting info from different sources but I’ll recall what I think is to be more accurate at this point). Some of the fallen angels (a big figure being Lord Lucifer) had made themselves acquainted with her and they had gained each others’ trust. This is the point where Lilith had became a demon and was at least set on the path to becoming a highly ranked Infernal deity(if not at this point already). Lilith at some point after this whispered empowering thoughts into Eve during her dreams; leading her to eat the fruit.

Lilith also has an aspect tied to the Mesopotamian demon Lilitu.

What is she like?

To me, Lilith is very much like a mother. Im sure you could probably guess by how I addressed her in the beginning of this post( which I call her Mother Lilith for personal reasons). She very much holds the energy of a firm mother who cares very much for her children. Lilith is very much stern when she feels the need, but knows when you need her to be gentle. Many times she has been a source of comfort and encouragement for me. If you show her the decency and respect she deserves, she will give it to you in return. If she sees you as her child (or holds you dear in anyway) she will go to distant lengths to protect you or to show your abusers not to mess with you again ( at times on her own accord). There are times where she made things difficult for people who wronged me on her own(probably a lot more I don’t know about). Mother Lilith is extremely supportive and will be there when needed, but she will not coddle you. She will not baby you. I see a lot of practitioners say “ she wont hold your hand” that’s true in a sense. Yes there are things you need to face alone, but a mother wont deny holding your hand if needed, she just wont do things for you. She will empower you to do things with independence. Lilith is definitely the kind of mentor to give you a rude wake up call when you’re not acting like yourself or doing things that wont benefit yourself or others. She is not afraid to be mean and wicked with you if need be.

Lilith’s energy generally feels airy and fiery. She carries herself regally and a sense of pride. Like i’ve mentioned, she doesn’t necessarily tie herself to one element, I’ve felt energy of all elements come from her, I assume this comes from her shapeshifting nature.

why i think richard cameron is Like That

the long awaited cam analysis post of sorts!!!

so to start off, let me acknowledge the obvious: CAMERON SUCKED FOR WHAT HE DID TO HIS FRIENDS. THAT WAS MEAN AND SHITTY OF HIM, HE DESERVED TO GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE AND HE DESERVED TO HAVE HIS FRIENDS STOP LIKING HIM. this post is just to paint a more nuanced picture of the motivations and reasoning behind his cam-ness. also i feel the need to address that my love for dylan kussman HEAVILY influences my opinion on cameron, so please keep that in find when u read this. if my bias shows at any point then feel free to offer your perspective, odds are i'll find a way to agree :3

lets start at the very beginning of the movie, his first appearance with the tradition banner. this obviously wasn't anything i rly thought of in depth on my first watch, but on my second watch i was like oh Hm.

tradition, of course, is a BIG aspect of welton that the movie repeatedly emphasises, drawing lots of attention to how nothing changes. i find cam holding the tradition banner especially interesting in relativity to neil holding the excellence banner specifically. cam very clearly tries his best to embody the rules of welton (more on this later) and very rarely deviates from those rules, although he does on occasion (again - more on this later.) but despite his attempts to be the manifestation of those values are never met with any praise, unlike neil. that's not to say that neil isn't deserving of that praise though, absolutely he is deserving, but in terms of academics specifically, cam's pretty up there too! this part doesnt exactly tie in directly with the rest of the post, but just thought id point it out first to add a layer to the rest of my thoughts.

how i view cam's character arc is something that's framed in a way thats not supposed to be viewed as an arc, i suppose (interesting considering the tradition thing hm). of course thats inaccurate as he does in fact have in arc, it just small in relation to the more forefront-ed poets. and it makes him ultimately less likeable, so.

during a majority of the movie (pre neil death) cam is known as the guy who doesnt like to break rules, that much is obvious, but in the end he still does with the dead poets society. now the reasoning behind that isnt actually touched on in a direct way, so there are a few different ways you can view that. i'll touch on a few different reasonings that me, @pencileraser1, and @good--merits-accumulated came up with.

my reasoning - i see cam's willingness to break the rules as cam holding his friends' idea of him on a high pedestal, constantly taking into consideration what they think. not wanting his friends to consider him a loser or boring in any way, he joins despite the anxiety surrounding being caught. not without fuss though, he does still outwardly talk about how this isnt something they should be doing. all this and yet he does in fact join, AND he doesnt rat anyone out for a majority of the movie (even after the call from god dealio!!!) fomo, basically.

nick's reasoning (found in this post) - he just wanted his friends to be safe!!! joining to (in my view) keep them in line in terms of safety as well as. i guess. provide the reminder of the consequences i suppose?? nick im opening up the floor to u if u wanna delve into this point more cuz ur definitely able to provide better reasoning n such. if asking nick to talk abt things was a full time job.

tristan's reasoning (discussed in dms) - cam's need for authority. tristan brought up a very good headcanon/ theory/ something or other that cam is the type to need constant direction or authority, and i totally agree! (reason for that will - again - come up later.) now this culminates in a couple different ways. 1) most obviously, adhereing (ehh) to the rules of welton, and 2) his relationship with the rest of the poets. due to the size of the welton student body, a lack of individual direction from teachers and staff is almost inevitable. so to fill that gap, he adheres to his friends' """"""rules"""""", and joins the poets. floor is open to you as well if you'd like to elaborate further, tristan :3

my thoughts of cam being super focused on his friends' idea of him actually started as a bit. i believe i made a hc post about smoking weed?? maybe?? and said something along the lines of "cam would smoke even if he doesnt want to, not cuz of peer pressure from his friends but more of a self imposed peer pressure. thinking its rude/ cringe/ uncool to turn down smthn like this bc all the rest of the guys r doing it." but after a rewatch of the scene in dps where theyre all walking outside, it started having some merit in my mind! in that scene, keating does a sort of imitation of cameron when he first starts to walk, something like "am i doing this right?", "am i walking weird?", etc. (paraphrasing ofc.) so i sort of took that aspect and applied it to other parts of his character and found out that oh, this actually kinda makes sense!

speaking of keating and his lessons, lets talk carpe diem.

now my interpretation of cam is that he doesn't exactly *want* to apply carpe diem in his life, seeing it as an antithesis of the welton values. only joining the poets for the reasons mentioned above. however, he does indeed apply it in my eyes, but more as a fucked up reversal and dickish version which eventually ends up in him deservedly getting punched. now is this how keating intended him to interpret carpe diem? ehhhhhhhhhhhhh,, it's complicated, let's talk about the context a bit.

this part is more theorising than anything, so take it with a few grains of salt if u wish.

cam quite obviously is a pretty big stickler for the rules, which i believe is a result of outside influence. id like to thank @lovech1ld for reminding me of this! cam's parents/ grandparents/ guardians are noticably older than the other poets, which, in my eyes, makes a heavy emphasis on following the rules make a lot more sense (respect your elders type shit.) so this, combined with the inherent fear of authority that most of the boys seem to have, makes him a chronic rule follower. but it goes further than that, after these ideas have been pushed for so long, i feel that cameron's started to mix up his own personal morals and values with the morals and values of welton, viewing those two things as one in the same. here's where that starts to muddy things up in terms of carpe diem.

i interpret cam's finking AS his application of carpe diem in his life, but as more of a subconscious choice. now you may be thinking "hey. mona. what?" and i UNDERSTAND! but here's my reasoning behind that. as i mentioned/ theorised before, cam has a very high opinion of his friends' idea of him, but this does eventually change after neil's passing. his subconscious carpe diem application, to put it into proper words, was a way to stick up for himself and his beliefs despite what all his friends think. again, being brought about by neils death, since he didn't choose to rat anyone out when the opportunity first presented itself during the call from god assembly. and i dont think cam sticking up for himself is inherently a bad thing!! but! since cam's idea of his morals are so clouded by welton's, this isn't actually sticking up for himself, this is just being a tattletale.

he did provide other reasoning for doing so to the poets of course, so lets talk a bit about that too. he says something along the lines of "i did it for neil" and "this is what he wouldve wanted" which is obviously bullshit, objectively. but i don't think he saw it that way, i think he genuinely believed thats what he thought neil would've wanted, as stupid of him as that was. obviously thats not what he wouldve wanted AT ALL, and why he actually thought that is FAR beyond me. but i really dont think he wouldve turned anyone in if he didnt genuinely believe it, especially considering the fact that he was PART of the dead poets. even if he was the one to confess, im sure he likely got punished as well. (which also couldve been what he wanted? tristan this is an opening to also discuss catholic cam on here bc ur reasonings for that were INCREDIBLE.)

on top of this, i really dont think that cam actually understood the weight of what turning in everyone would do. now i will say right away, hes not dumb, he knew that keating would be fired and charlie would be expelled, and that alone should've turned him away if he really wanted to honor neil. as i said before we started, he absolutely deserved to be punched and lose his friends, that was a dick move that ended up ruining two lives for a long long time, if not forever.

but.

due to him grieving, his rules = morals shtick, and fear of authority, i think he turned in the poets without giving actual, proper thought into what the consequences of that would be. which manifests itself both in the film with the final scene.

in the last scene where all of the boys stand on the desk, we see multiple shots of cam looking around and looking at everyone standing. and we (or at least i) can definitely see some sort of consideration to join them!!! he of course doesnt, and ends up choosing to sit, looking QUITE ashamed. this too can he interpreted a couple ways, either as him being embarrassed that his peers are doing this, or as him wanting to join them but knowing that he was the reason keating was fired. knowing that it would be incredibly disingenuous, even if he stood as a way to sort of apologise to keating + the poets for what he did and show that he regrets his actions, he stayed seated. and was so. so. mad at himself for it.

now i don't remember where i heard this so im not sure how to go about fact checking, but i believe the choice to keep cam seated was ultimately dylan kussman's?????? but dont take my word as gospel in terms of that, i very well could be wrong.

BUT! this gives me an opportunity to talk abt how much i love dylan kussman!!!!! nick vocalised the thought before i was able to in one of his posts, but considering the fact that i agree wholeheartedly, i'll reiterate it. i see rsl and ethan hawke constantly be praised (deservedly!) for their understanding of the inner workings of their characters, especially reflected in the desk set scene. and while YES ABSOLUTELY, i think dylan needs this praise as well. dylan was the PERFECT casting choice for cameron and i will shout that from the rooftops until my voice goes hoarse. so so so many of his little mannerisms, facial expressions, ways of speaking, soooo many etceteras are just so. so. HOWEVER. i have lots and lots of thoughts after a long convo with tristan about certain headcanons and post-canon theories and whatever. will probably touch on those but i dont really have my thoughts properly collected enough, so that wont be until later.

Loki S2 Review

I rewatched S2 and I liked it even more on the second watch. I'm giving it a 6 out of 10 in average(8 for the finale). Since I didn't post a review week by week like for S1, I'm just going to talk about the main things I liked/disliked

The Improvements & Things I liked:

The pace and the narrative's tone and framing have changed. While the pace drops sometimes, these moments aren't as boring as S1. Meaning you don't want to constantly check when it's going to end(like you know, S1 and especially 1x06). The narrative is neutral and doesn't villain code Loki and hero code others. It doesn't turn Loki into a clown, a punching bag or someone who deserves humiliation(I guess they've done enough of that in S1). On the contrary the characters are shown as flawed people, with Loki being the most moral, considerate, logical and heroic amongst them.

They stated bluntly in episode 1, that what TVA used to do, were atrocities. That they were killing numerous innocent people who had a right to live their lives as they chose.

The characters were three dimensional, likable or tolerable despite their actions in S1. They showed remorse for the things they had done. Although the way the narrative chose to go about it in S1 still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It shouldn't happen to you for you to realize sth is wrong. But at least it was shown that the characters weren't slaughtering people mindlessly and some of them deep down knew it was wrong. Although the fact that they still did it, because of the "greater good", and "woe is me! It's not a comfort it's a burden" attitude about it is repulsive.

Loki using amazing magical stuff and DID YOU SEE THE GREEN MAGICAL GLOW IN HIS EYES?*incoherent screaming*

No Romance. It was unnecessary and rushed in S1. This time they focused more on Loki needing friends and that was definitely a better choice imo and what they should have gone for in S1 too.

Sylvie's actions and personality framed as what they were. She wasn't put on a pedestal as this amazing different FeMaLe version of Loki. She was framed as a flawed character with wrong and right actions and beliefs.

Loki and Sylvie's talk in the pie land, about change, hope, fixing what's broken and being gods. That sigh before Loki saying "We are gods" with all the weight of the world on his shoulders. Wonderful acting.

The ending and its epic soundtrack.

Topics & Things That Could Have Been Handled Better:

The Topic of New York Invasion

"Sometimes a rage builds up and you just gotta let it out. Do you remember that time I was so angry with my father and my brother, I went down to Earth and I held the whole of New York city hostage with an alien army? Tried to use the mind stone on Tony Stark? It didn't work so I threw him off the building. It wasn't tactical. I lost it"

On the surface it looks like Loki's saying that's why he attacked New York and probably most people accept this without a second thought.

But the context of the scene matters. We see during the interrogation Mobius loses his temper. He was worried about Loki getting angry, but he was the one who loses his temper and hits Brad. Loki tries to calm him down by sympathizing with him to try and see what caused his behavior. It's the same thing he did for Thor in the first movie, before coronation and after it, while Thor was nervous and angry. What he says about New York while isn't the whole truth, it also isn't untrue. He was angry with Thor and Odin but as we know his anger and thoughts were influenced by the scepter. We also know Loki doesn't like to talk about his time with Thanos or being tortured. Instead he uses a half-truth, sth that is in character for Loki.

So the scene can be rationalized by this analysis but it's still annoying that this analysis is even needed. They should have been clear about the scepter's influence especially when mcu confirmed it.

Loki thinking about Thor's change as being a weakness. While both Thor and Loki were groomed and taught to consider being soft as a weakness, that wasn't Loki's true feelings. At least I don't think someone who prefers words and magic-that are considered a weakness in Asgard-over brawn thinks like that. His goal in the first movie was to goad Thor into fighting him. So the line should have been sth like this: "Asgard taught us being soft is a weakness, so I used that against Thor to goad him into a fight. I said he's gone soft…"

Plotholes and things that weren't explained.

Why Loki and Sylvie weren't sent to their original timelines like others? And why neither of them showed any interest in seeking their family? You're telling me Loki wants to see these people he knows for 10 seconds more than Frigga or Thor? OOC.

Sylvie's sudden mastery of magic since 1x06 isn't explained. She didn't know much, but then suddenly could do everything Loki did. I mean I can headcanon that her and Loki linking their power taught her some things but these sudden developments without any explanations are annoying.

Loki's genderfluidity. No mention of it at all. Although I believe that no representation is better than bad representation. And you should leave a topic alone if you don't understand it, otherwise you're gonna mess it up. Because bad rep can be more harmful. And so maybe it was a good thing mcu let that one go. But they could still fix it with some shapeshifiting, explaining its difference with illusions and Loki confirming that he is comfortable in her female form.

Loki's clothes. It's probably not that important in comparison with other issues but I really hate that beige suit. Why Sylvie who doesn't even want to be Loki and wasn't in Asgard since childhood changes into an Asgardian outfit for a fight and not Loki? Yeah I get it. It was because of the last reveal and transformation and finding his identity blah blah blah but at least they could have gave him his old Asgardian clothes or he could change the suit's color ugh

Criticism & Things I didn't like:

The ooc moments for Loki in some comedic scenes. Especially in episode 5. While the character has a comedic potential, it's not based on clownery or clumsiness. The best humorous moments for Loki are the ones where he outwits others, use sarcastic language or he is being outwitted despite his careful plans.

Certain emotional stakes aren't clear from the start. The audience know that saving TVA is the right thing because it protects all the freed timelines but they don't know why they should care? Or more accurately why Loki is so emotionally invested in this goal. That gets answered in episode 5 and while Loki's talk with Sylvie is a good emotional scene, the fact that it's stated so late in the story, makes the first few episodes boring when it comes to saving TVA.

The main reason the emotional stakes aren't clear(at least for me), I believe is because most of the people Loki call them his "friends", haven't done anything to either deserve his friendship or aren't close enough to be considered a friend. Let alone someone Loki tries to move heaven and hell to be with them, instead of for example trying to find his brother and family. It is an issue which again is rooted in S1 and carried to S2. What happened in S1 wasn't therapy or a healthy friendship.

However, Loki being loyal to anyone who show him an ounce of affection or him being moral enough to try to save people are in character for him and that's sth good about it.

The torture scene.

The trick Mobius and Loki pulled was predictable as hell. I didn't even doubted Loki in TDW, let alone here. And even though I didn't believe for one second that Loki's actually going to hurt the guy, and he wasn't shown enjoying it, I still hated that he went along with the torture idea Mobius had come up with. Especially considering the fact that he was a victim of torture himself and never shown any sign in canon that he would torture someone. So yeah I hated that scene.

And why that scene was even necessary? Loki could get into X-5's mind when they weren't in TVA. We know he is capable of it. He did it both through mind stone in Avengers and in TR. how else they were going to delve into Mobius' problem though smh

But alright let's say they needed a scene like that. Still the whole Brad believing Mobius is against torture, and Loki's the one who would be in favor of it, is so fucking ridiculous. Any way you look at it, it has always been TVA and Mobius who did any torture we've seen during the two seasons. The tortures that Loki endured might I add. Even in the previous scene, it was Loki who didn't hit Brad and only tried to intimidate him non-physically by acting as a villain. It was Mobius who hit him, who was shown more affected by Brad's insults. So logically the scene they had planned to fool Brad, should have been played completely the opposite way. By having Mobius do the torture. At least it was recognized that the torture idea was from Mobius and both he and Loki gave the credits for it to Mobius.

Verity Willis. Hunter B15 unlike the Verity in comics, doesn't have a close friendship with Loki or truth detector powers. Not having a good friend like comics Verity for Loki, was such a wasted opportunity in the series.

Mobius saying to Loki "You're a man of action...". That was such a stupid, unnecessary line. As if the main difference between Loki and Thor wasn't Thor acting before thinking, and Loki thinking and planning before acting. While Loki is also a man of action, he is first and foremost a man of strategy. The only plausible explanation imo is that Mobius said it to not feel useless in comparison with Loki and his skills.

"Thor's not that tall". Yeah, no. I don't think Loki's reaction to seeing Thor and Odin's statues would be that. Knowing his brother and family were murdered by the very same people he's working with now. Remind me again why he's considering them "FrIeNdS"? Someone really needs to explain the concept of friendship to Loki. Or rather the writers of this show.

And while we are at it. Let's talk about how Loki's past and identity issues were completely swapped under the rug as if they were all magically fixed and didn't matter anymore. As if those weren't the most important part of his journey. Another issue rooted in S1.

Final Thoughts(for now :D)

Season 2 was definitely better than season 1. Not perfect, and not for those who care about OG Loki's issues. They set him on a completely different path in S1 and they messed up any chance to actually delve into his problems. So in S2 we're having a character that we're supposed to accept has moved on from certain issues, and now tries to find what he wants and where he belongs. Still, I think that they listened to the criticism for once as they tried to fix some of the problems of S1. After many years it didn't feel like that the creators hate the character, or using him as a prop, or a plot device. It was a story about Loki. A bittersweet story for the god of stories.

Elden Ring Theory: The God who Cursed Miquella

Do you find it strange how Malenia was cursed to habor Rot from within which is attributed by a very specific God, and yet Miquella was cursed by the vague affliction of eternal childhood?

Because I sure do lol

So to start off with this theory I'm going to state my speculation right off the bat: while Malenia was cursed by the God of Rot, Miquella was cursed with eternal childhood by the Golden Order/Greater Will

Why you might ask? Well in a previous post I said how Radagon was made as insurance because the Greater Will sensed Marikas doubts and betrayal, so Miquella and Malenia who are mirror images to their parents, split by physical and magical skills, were also, by birth, superior beings to Marika/Radagon as they are the offspring of a single God.

But seeing as the Greater Will was struggling to keep its control on Marika/Radagon, it likely saw Miquella and Malenia as a threat. And so, to prevent the two of them from becoming stronger than their parents, the Greater Will likely cursed the twins to better keep them under its control.

In Malenias case, with the Rot God. And based off of an interesting statement from Brother Cohryn, "the Greater Will absorbed practices that opposed it in the past" that leads me to believe that the Greater Will had no issue with allowing Rot to take hold of the Empyrean daughter of it's God.

But Miquella...

Miquella was likely a whole different kind of threat.

With Miquella's genius/intelligence alone, I wouldn't be surprised if the Greater Will was especially wary of the potential Miquella harbored. And so, being extra cautious, it cursed Miquella with its own abilities, and then had the Two Fingers (or maybe even Radagon 😳) lie and misguide Miquella into believing that Fundamentalism could help, all so that Miquella could never grow into their own skills and strength.

But when Miquella did inevitably discover the truth; that the Golden Order can't cure Malenia and is the source of their own curse, can you imagine just how earth shattering that would be?

That the order and faith you dedicated your life too, the Order that said there was hope for Malenia within Fundamentalism, which was told to you all your life, not only lied about being able to cure your beloved sister from her crippling illness, but was also the very one to lay a curse upon yourself, stunting you from being able to achieve your own full potential and help your sister.

Just imagine how world shattering such a revelation would have been for Miquella. And to make matters worse, Radagon too, the leal hound of the Golden Order/Gods other half, likely would have known the truth, and that definitely would have fractured the relationship between the two considerably.

This revelation would've made Miquella's departure from Fundamentalism sting all the more....

And so Miquella, steadfast and fueled by the most bitter of betrayals, did not waver and found their own path thus leading to the birth of Unalloyed Gold.

You falling asleep on them after a long day

Characters: Jean / Yelan / Ei x gn!reader (separate)

a/n: I scrolled through some old posts of mine and found a request someone sent in when my requests were closed a few months ago, and it just seemed too cute not to write it. It was requested by @khanhlinh6809

If there are any mistakes, I'm really sorry. It's pretty late and I'm honestly really tired, that's also the reason why it's a bit shorter than my usual posts.

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

While Jean had noticed your signs of exhaustion the moment, she laid eyes on you that evening, it was fair to say that she hadn’t expected you to nod off the moment the two of you sat down on your couch.

At first, she couldn’t help but freeze, her face to heating up, once she remembered how often she had read about such situations in the romance novels she liked to read whenever she needed to a quick and effective way to de-stress from all of her work. And while she felt embarrassed to admit that she had always silently dreamed of being in such a situation herself, she had imagined her to be the one to fall asleep on the other person’s shoulder, not the other way around.

When she finally somewhat managed to calm down, the next issue at hand was what she should do. She could just follow suit and close her eyes, and while the couch was far from the worst places, she fell asleep on, the bed with her favourite pillow, sounded much better. But she also soon realised that trying to move you to bed would most likely result in you waking up, you were somewhat of a light sleeper after-all, and the alternative of sneaking off herself and leaving you to sleep alone also left a bitter taste in her mouth.

But as her inner monologue dragged on, Jean’s own eyelids started to feel heavy, and before long she began resting her head against yours before falling asleep and mumbling out a few last words.

“Good night, my love.”

Yelan

Naps have always been one of Yelan’s favourite past-time activities, especially after completing a tiring task or finishing her workload at once. So, when you fell asleep on her after finishing a workload even she couldn’t help but shudder at, she was more than considerate.

That being said, the schedule she had made for the day technically required her to get to work, and while she thought about actually following it for a few seconds, she eventually decided that work could wait. There were still a few weeks until she needed to be done with it, after all, so it wouldn’t hurt anyone if she simply did it another time. Her schedule couldn’t have possibly predicted your sudden decision to use her as a pillow, after all.

But while she’d have to remake her schedule because of you, the time spent sitting motionlessly by Yelan was far from a waste of time, especially after you began mumbling a few words while asleep, and while they weren’t coherent, the whole situation being more similar to someone reading out random words from a dictionary than actually saying anything, it still amused her.

“And? How was your sleep?”, she asked you once she felt the weight lift from her shoulder as you finally awoke, instantly starting to blush once you realised what had happened.

Yes, she was going to have a field-day with this.

While you falling asleep on Ei was far from rare, you clearly remembered how hesitant you were to do so at first, the thought of resting on your god seeming semi-sacrilegious to you. The goddess in question didn’t have anything against it however, seeing it as a nice way to spend more time with you, and while you weren’t awake, your simple presence was enough to make Ei feel at peace.

When you finally fell asleep against Ei’s shoulder, she immediately moved your head over on her lap, enabling her to have a better look at your sleeping face. Normally the Archon would use the time you spent asleep for her meditation, but this time, Ei’s eyes never stopped staring at your face, and before she had even noticed herself, her fingers slowly began running through your hair, as her mind wandered off to all kinds of memories.

Memories from centuries ago and memories of just a few days ago, some of them happy, some of them not, all of them found themselves in Ei’s mind, and while those containing her sister and friends were still by far her favourites, the ones she shared with you were the ones, that consistently brought a smile to her face.

But her memories eventually were interrupted when she felt something grab her other hand, only for Ei to be greeted by a tired smile of yours when she was brought back to the real world, making her realise how long she spent silently looking at your face.

“Good morning, Ei”, you greeted before letting out a small yawn, instantly covering your mouth with your other hand before giving her yet another smile. “Good morning.”

and I know I yelled about it before but AJJ canonizing the Tomberly coach duo RHRHHRHGRHGHHGHGH i just know AJJ heard about the whole PhD in paleontology thing and went "............no??? he teaches fucking karate"

“somehow shanks became aware that buggy's goals had changed” alright that is so FASCINATING! Most of theorists I saw had believe that Shanks was completely unaware of Buggy’s intention. That he just wanted him around (out of whatever feels) so asked about sailing together. I even saw Interpretations of them being co-captains.

I don’t think I ever saw anyone using the panel of “we should go separate ways”!

You truly made me more excited about where this relationship is going. How much Shanks knew about his friend inner thoughts??

You think Oda has some plans on writing sth about this relationships or in your opinion he would rather made them go “separate ways”? God, you good.

yeah, idk, maybe i’m reading into things too much?? i just don’t get the impression that shanks is the kind of person to ask a question he knows is gonna get an answer of “no way in hell!!” so i have to believe that either he forgot that buggy wanted to go his own way, or he thought buggy had changed his mind.

(and either of these scenarios also involves a shanks who has changed his mind. why. why do you want buggy on your ship, shanks? did he change, or your opinion of him?)

like i said in my tags on that post, i would really love to hear an explanation from shanks himself. i don’t think i’ll be fully satisfied by their arc without getting his perspective. i hope it’s coming! i’m not confident but i’m hopeful!

that said, i do 100% believe they’re going to run into each other during the hunt for the one piece. i just have no idea when. early on vs at laugh tale vs literally right in front of the treasure… my ideal conversation/confrontation would go totally differently in each context. (and this doesn’t even take into consideration whether luffy, bb, or other pirates are also present!)

as for your last question… god, i don’t know. what’s the purpose of the shanks & buggy relationship in this story? if it’s to serve as an example of how close relationships can go sour, then i think there are two endings that can serve that purpose.

they never become close again, to show the consequences for being too stubborn/too easygoing in a relationship

their relationship gets repaired right at the end of the story, to show it’s never too late to become friends again

so i really couldn’t say!

personally, i would love to see shanks and buggy wander off into the sunset, going on half-retired pirate adventures, but i feel like a lot would have to change for that to happen. i can’t really see buggy aboard the red force, or shanks at cross guild hq. maybe they go their separate ways, but stay in contact? (letters, snailphone calls, etc.) arranging to meet up for short trips a couple times a year… a compromise between permanently going their separate ways and always traveling together.

#there’s also the take that says chapter 19 was written so long ago it doesn’t reflect oda’s modern thoughts on the shanks-buggy dynamic #buuut i think doylist explanations of works in progress are boring! so i’m ignoring that possibility!#the co-captains idea interests me a lot but i would want to dig into the original japanese dialogue before i take it seriously #like does buggy actually say i won’t WORK UNDER YOU or does he say i won’t COME WITH YOU? much to think about #one piece #shuggy #asked and answered #shanks #buggy #*shuggy miscommunication #*the shuggy roguetown breakup #*post-series shuggy speculation

I really liked this comment posted here, and wanted to reply to it directly, but figured my inevitably long-winded response would work better in a separate post. Cuz the short/long answer is White Privilege.

I've ranted a few times about Lestat's toxic positivity and color-blindness--

--cuz Lestat grossly underestimated how effective systemic racism was, and overestimated his power as one (1) single French White vampire in the face of the American superstructure/superpower.

Lestat could use the Spell Gift to freeze time & cheat at cards & win piles of money; read minds to seduce/control people; use the Cloud Gift & superspeed to travel; use telekinesis to close the gates on the priest he killed in Ep1 & open the door for Antoinette in Ep7; use the Fire Gift in Ep1 screwing with the street-lighter dude; use the Mind Gift to command a whole platoon of soldiers (which gave him a literal aneurysm). But he's not omnipotent. The problem with AR vampires is that they are very PHYSICAL--although undead, they aren't spirits/ghosts or shapeshifting creatures like AR's Azriel/Lasher/Amel/Goblin/Gremt--or even Dracula--who can move in and out of physical material. AR vamps can't become mist or turn into wolves/bats or any of the OP powers Dracula has (and even he was defeated by a ragtag bunch of humans). AR's vamps are still subject to the laws & forces of earth--the world--and by extension, SOCIETY.

People have accused black!Louis of being "arrogant," but I strongly disagree--Louis was proud. Lestat, however, was wildly arrogant, looking down on "this primitive country"/human society as something beneath him; that vampirism was something that superseded everything in existence; thinking he was akin to God and that he could make everyone bend to his will--including Louis.

Eff no. Lestat dragged Louis to the opera cuz LESTAT wanted to go to the opera. He went on & on about Don Pasquale--DELIBERATELY talking over visibly distraught Louis; bulldozing over his feelings to force Louis out of his funk, while Louis was looking like WTF--

Lestat was like come hell or high water--i.e.: Louis almost eating his nephew, or racists at the door not wanting black!Louis to go in--we are GOING to the opera tonight so help me god! 😤 Granted, YES, the date had been planned in good faith--"I've been neglectful of our romance;" and YES, we know Louis LOVES opera--but it was also classic lovebomber!Lestat behavior, to thrust things at Louis & expect him to take it and smile; inconsiderate AF; or rather, considerate only so far as considering how effective his chess moves & manipulations would be.

However, Lestat's self aware enough (even in his white privilege) to know his limits: we see him use the Mind Gift on the soldiers in Ep3, WAY less people than everyone in the Opera House (or even the pub w/ the police chief & Tom in Ep5). Les wasn't strong/skilled enough in his powers in Ep2 (1912-17) to make everyone NOT notice black!Lou walking/sitting beside him. There'd've been a riot--those white folk would've acted a fool & thrown BOTH of them out b4 the opera even started, defeating the point of their date.

"Why did he conform to the human societal rules even though he knew Louis found it humiliating?"

Les felt it more important to see some stupid opera (which turned out to be TRASH cuz of the Tenor, LOL), than to have white people respect his black husband (a la "IF disrespect was done to you..." in the same episode 😒); or to bother finding something they could enjoy TOGETHER, w/out Lou being dehumanized in the process. But that's the whole point of vampirism: It's a dehumanizing process, "companion in the Dark Gift, finally." Lestat wanted Louis to stop acting like a human & start acting like a vampire--a white man, a god/monster, etc. And Lestat's PETTY AF, enough to be like: Ok Louis, if you insist on us both participating in this charade, then suffer the consequences of playing nice w/ people who hate you; take my effing gloves & walk 3 paces behind me, valet! Lestat KNEW it hurt Louis to be treated that way. Slap his face and kiss it after:

See the little micro-expressions on Samstat's face, when he double-takes? He sits in blissful white privilege, b4 remembering: Oh right! My black husband's just been mistreated by white society AND ME; lemme butter him up by making it all about ME again, trauma-dumping a whole monologue on how lonely I've been on him. 🥺

Lestat, an idiot, thought all black!Louis needed to do was act like Lestat a white man, and all his problems would be solved. By embracing his vampire powers, he could go & do what he wanted. But we see in Ep3 precisely what would've happened if Louis decided to REALLY be Lestat's "companion in the Dark Gift, finally." Killing the racist Alderman was just one domino in a string of factors that sparked the race riots, but Louis blamed himself anyways, quick to shoulder the guilt for things beyond his control, and LEFT Lestat.

Louis wants to be a "good" Negro, not rock the boat (even if inside Pyromaniac du Lac's boiling mad). Lou'd rather have racists learn to respect him & treat him equally, not go kill all of them, ruling over a pile of corpses. He's not the type to insist on walking side-by-side w/ Les into the Opera House, or sit beside him on the bus. Lou's passive/submissive, he's not an activist. When he "acts out," as Armand called it, it just leads to chaos--riots, the "Great Conversion/flying vampire apocalypse," the Theatre burned down. Lou's a hermit crab in his shell--he shuts down, hides away, full of regret & "self-loathing." He can't be devil-may-care Les & eff-the-police Claudia; that's NOT the type of person he is, or who Les wanted him to be--eff that sword-cane; every time Lou used it he was MISERABLE!

Bull-frikkin-sh!te. 😠

Lestat's selfish, arrogant, cocksure, and toxic AF. And Louis was unequipped to handle him (cuz they're UNEQUAL), loving Les despite all his faults, to the point of LITERAL self-destruction. Rolin & Sam have said many times that Les had yet to be HUMBLED. The world/reality only hit him in Ep7 that the very things he underestimated would be his undoing--Claudia got the jump on him back in Ep6's chess game, and offed him through poisoning Tom (another person Les didn't expect to hurt him). (We'd see this over & over again in the books, as Les got his arse handed to him by people he'd looked down on, from Armand in TVL, to some rando old AF human Raglan James in TotBT, to Rhoshamandes in the PL Trilogy.)

Most importantly, Louis has significant power over Lestat, too. The crazy part's that Les SAW Lou coming inEp7--he KNEW Lou was a garbage liar & was plotting w/ Claudia; he's too obvious--and STILL underestimated Lou. He LET Louis get away with crap, cuz he thought it was harmless, or just not worth confronting Louis about--biding his time & waiting. That's what Les had done for YEARS, with everything from Louis' vegetarianism, to running the Azalea's sinking ship, to sitting at the back of the bus.

"Same thing with the bus. Would he have rather had his family sit upfront with him? Why did he decide to sit in the back of the theater with Louis & Claudia? Is it because it was dark?"

Eff that bus. Lestat would've rather have had Louis (& Claudia) strong enough to use THE CLOUD GIFT. Buses are for weak AF humans who can't take to the air like strong vampires can, and FLY.

Les said in TVL that he held back with Louis, and kept from showing him even half of what vampires could REALLY do--which is why Louis was STUNNED to see the Theatre & Armand & Santiago (a vampire YOUNGER than Louis!) in action.

Poor baby bird had no idea. Cuz Louis had been trying so hard & so long to be human, not vampire--he'd stunted his own growth, which is why both Lestat & Claudia looked at him like he was crazy. "A fish that doesn't swim; a bird that doesn't fly. You're going to STRUGGLE." And the scary fact was that Lestat would struggle, too, pretending to be human and not a monster to accommodate Louis: "I'm trying to restrain myself!" 💀

Fyodor's Last Words in Bungou Stray Dogs

Hello! I know I've been saying I was gonna do this for a long time, and I really did try to find my notes quickly, but I'm here now. This post is meant as a Religious Studies Analysis. As such I would like to state that I was a dual major in Religious Studies and History to qualify myself for this discussion.

I am also going to be writing this post for accessibility, that is to say I am going to assume the reader has little to no knowledge about the New Testament so I will be explaining or giving context to a lot of things, even things that may seem obvious.

What Were Fyodor's Words?

Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachtani which as I'm sure you know is the Arameic version of Christ's cry to God as he was on the Cross in the Book of Matthew. The Book of Matthew is one of the four gospels in the New Testament. The Gospels (which translates to Good News) tell the life story of Jesus.

In the King James Version of the Bible these words are said, "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46)

A disclaimer, I am using the King James Version of the Bible for its importance to the English Language. If you want to see Matthew 27:46 translated differently please check Bible Gateway.

The Significance of Matthew 27:46

Let's talk about the context of Matthew 27:46. Now, this line comes during the Crucifixion of Jesus. This was the ninth hour of Jesus being on the cross, or around 3 in the afternoon, and is said following a period of darkness from noon to three.

Now many scholars and theologians have tried to understand why Jesus would have said God had forsaken him, and this is the same for Fyodor too.

However, I would like to talk about Matthew 27:46 in the context of prophecy. Now, for many Christian scholars the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) contain several prophecies which Jesus later fulfills. In Psalms 22:1 "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" is said once again. Therefore, a popular interpretation of Matthew 27:46 is that Jesus is emphasizing how his death and eventual resurrection were all proclaimed long ago and fated to happen.

In short: the quote illustrates the prophetic nature of Jesus and how he is the Messiah.

And How Does Fyodor Connect?

Well, I believe that Fyodor's last words were a warning. A warning to Dazai that Fyodor knew he would "die" and come back, just as Jesus did when he said it on the cross. Maybe he planned this all out or views his life as some sort of prophecy to eliminate all ability users.

If we take the quote and apply the Psalms connection to it, it becomes evident that the "sacrifice" Fyodor took was fated to happen and he knew it. He knew he was going to come back, he possibly knew this was going to happen.

Moreover, this quote may also have something to do with his resurrection. Later in Matthew (Matthew 27:50-53), Jesus calls out and an earthquake happens, "and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose." (Matthew 27:52). Right after Jesus calls out to God, the saints rise from the dead and go to heaven. The quote is intimately tied with resurrection, and I don't think that's a coincidence that Fyodor said it and then comes back. I think Asagiri took this into consideration too.

Most people would think that "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" would be a plea of a man caught in a trap with no way out. But, this interpretation does not make sense with Fyodor or his "death". Therefore, understanding Matthew 27:46 has both a line connected with the resurrection of saints and prophecy is crucial to understanding why Fyodor said it during the helicopter crash. He knew he was coming back. I think it was a warning and to illustrate how "ordained by God" his mission is. There's probably more context to add, but it's late and I am sleepy now.

I know this all kinda confirms what we already know, but I think it really illustrates the depth of Fyodor's planning and that he might have known how Mersault was going to go the whole time. Which is terrifying if you think about it.

My high school AP art history teacher once stated that ancient Egyptian art looks largely “the same” because the religion didn’t change until Akhenaten created a monotheistic religion, only then do we see naturalism emerge in art a la Queen Nefertiti’s bust. At this point I’m aware that this is a bad take, but I was wondering if you might be able to unpack it a bit more. Reading about how ancient Egypt spanned a six thousand year period makes me feel like it couldn’t be possible for there to only be one stylistic evolution in their art, or that there were no religious movements besides the one Akhenaten led.

Yeah, that's a trash take. Unpacking it a 'bit' more is quite an undertaking, especially since I'm being asked to unpack 6000 years of artistic changes. There are more changes than just the Amarna period, as well as there being more than one religious change.

First off, I'm going to paraphrase this post by @rudjedet on art, with her express permission, because frankly I do not have the spoons to fully address artistic change over 6000 years in any meaningful way. It's a lot to ask of someone outside of an actual research project. So, with that being said, be prepared for this to get long because this is a long question with a lot to unpack. All images will have their id in alt text.

So, art. It changes quite a bit, but the changes happen over centuries, rather than defined blocks in time for 'styles', and they're really not that noticeable to the untrained eye. The Egyptians also strived to keep their art style the same way On Purpose, which I feel I've talked about a lot over the past few days, but we've circled back to it again. To talk about art I'm going to borrow Sonja's use of statuary for examples.

The Ancient Egyptians always portrayed themselves as an ideal. What that ideal was did change over time - in the Old Kingdom, it was a man in the prime of his life, strong and fit. See for example this statue of Menkaure:

All Egyptians in their art and their tombs sought to present themselves this way, as this is how they would appear in the Afterlife and also because art is imbued with Heka meaning that you don't want to show yourself looking out of shape or that could come true. For Menkhaure, this is supposed to reflect his strong leadership and virility. Remember, Egyptian art is about image propaganda. This is why it largely tends to follow certain trends that people mistake for being 'static'.

This propagandistic projection was still largely the case in the Middle Kingdom/early Twelfth Dynasty (so when Senwosret I ruled), but it did shift to a portrayal of the king as a man with a care-worn face and big ears, to indicate that he was very concerned with the well-being of his subjects. This was largely due to the fact that there had been famine, and the people of Egypt had suffered. So, what better way of showing you care is to reflect that in the statuary.

This is a head of a statue of Senwosret III, and you can see that while he still looks like a fit ruler, still youthful, he has considerable lines in his face and around his mouth, bags underneath his eyes, and even a wrinkle in his forehead. This is meant to display his worry and concern for Egypt. His ears are large and sticking out, which we’re relatively certain wasn’t a portrayal of reality, but as stated above was a way to indicate a predisposition to listen to both the gods, and his subjects. Senwosret II also does this, but going further back you can see the statuary of Senwosret I is all smiles. This change occurs over less than 100 years, and then after this period changes back to the above style. Tomb art in this period, while remaining the same aesthetically, moves from fully carved to painted, as colour beings to be introduced to more private spaces.

Towards the New Kingdom we see a reversal towards the strong and fit archetype, but with far more of an emphasis on youthful facial appearances. See, for example, this statue of Thutmose I:

(Fun thing: the number of times I see this statue but people have labelled it as Hatshepsut because it's a little more feminine in the face is a very large number).

Round, plump cheeks that display an extremely youthful look. He looks like he’s barely out of puberty when he's likely a grown man at this point. Again, it's propaganda. He's projecting the image he wants people to see, and the image Kings want people to see in Egypt really doesn't change all that much.

Then the Amarna Period happens. And… well you already know about that. Akhenaten seems to break all molds for Egypt, pushing religion, the capital city, foreign relations, and even art all out the window in a very short amount of time.

But it's definitely hyperbole to say he did this out of the blue. I definitely need to point out here that new changes to the art style were already happening under his father, Amenhotep III, and grandfather, Thutmose IV, at least, but the changes there are still relatively subtle. Religion is also changing at this time, but I'll get to that in a bit.

You can see it well in this sculpted head of Amenhotep III, though:

A slightly elongated face, very pronounced lips, almond-shaped, large eyes. If you didn't know, most of you would probably automatically assume this was a piece from the Amarna period. Akhenaten then, almost overnight, just went all-in with this:

The biggest differences between this and the head of Amenhotep III, you’ll see, aren’t so much in the face, but in the body. Akhenaten has round hips and a soft belly, instead of the rock hard musculature that previous kings had themselves portrayed with. It would be inaccurate to use the term “more realistic”, as some people are wont to do, because it implies that Akhenaten truly looked exactly like that and by all accounts it is rather unlike Egyptians to not, in some way, show a perfected version of a thing or person. But it is probably true that a lot of Egyptian rulers had a “good life” belly on them in real life. In fact, it's common throughout all periods to have at least one statue of yourself with fat rolls as it demonstrates wealth and prosperity i.e. the ability to have enough food.

Then we move into the post-Amarna period, and while there we see a return to the more stylised portrayals of pre-Amarna art, the belly and a more subtle version of the fat rolls remain. You can see it in this statue of the Treasurer Maya (on the right, his wife Merit is sat next to him):

Even after this period, when you tend to get Late Period kings trying to replicate older periods and not quite getting the proportions right, the art still evolves and changes. It's just that the overall aesthetic, remains pretty much the same. As I said before this is a deliberate action on the part of the Egyptians. They wanted it to remain the same due to their obsession with archaism and keeping Egypt in it's Golden Age (the Old Kingdom). What you see as static, isn't really at all, but you've got to know the difference between the time periods in order to see the often subtle differences.

As for religion, and I'm going to wrap this up pretty quickly because we don't need anything near the length of what we have above, there are multiple changes but they occur across centuries so they don't have the same dramatic shift as the Amarna period did. Since Ancient Egypt had a pantheon of gods, there was always a 'chief deity' who sat above the rest of them as they were favoured by the priests. In the very early periods this was the goddess Neith, over time she faded out as the popularity of Osiris rose and he became the chief deity. After a few centuries you can see this change to Amun, and his priests became very powerful. During the reigns of Thutmose IV and Amenhotep III, you can see them focusing more on the Aten as the chief deity, but because Egypt had grown significantly by this point the priesthood of Amun was in direct opposition to the King. What Akhenaten did when he caused upheaval makes more sense in this context, especially since it was largely the High Priests of Amun that he was targeting. Once Akhenaten was gone, the priests restored Amun as chief god and that never really changed. Other gods became popular, but they did not oust Amun as head of the pantheon. But as I said, these changes were largely incremental rather than the huge change Akhenaten implemented. They took so long to happen that they wouldn't have been truly visible to the people living through them. There weren't religious movements because religion was the purview of the King and the Priests. Main pantheon worship was supposed to be done by the king alone, but in reality this was delegated to priests. The general public did not enter the temples unless it was festival time and even then they were restricted in the parts they could access. The reason there were no religious movements is because it was the purview of the state rather than its people to perform most of the religious rites, and if the state is in control of something it's very unlikely to change unless they can see that change as one that is expedient for them. After the Amarna period there were some small changes in the way people chose to worship their gods, but the state religion did not change. Like with art, it is this way because the Egyptians wanted it to be so. Also there are only 5 million people in Ancient Egypt. Why change what works?
