he says i hate everyone except you and that is addictive and that is kind of romantic and beautiful because you're young and you're kind of a sarcastic asshole too and you don't like bad boys, per say, but you don't really like good ones either. and you like that you were the exception, it felt like winning.
except life is not a romance book, and he was kind of being honest. he doesn't learn to be nice to your friends. he only tolerates your family. you have to beg him to come with you to birthday parties, he complains the whole time. you want to go on a date but - people are often there, wherever you're going. he's just so angry. about everything, is the thing. in the romance book, doesn't he eventually soften? can't you teach him, through your own sense of whimsy and comfort?
at first - you know introverts often need smaller friend groups, and honestly, you're fine staying at home too. you like the small, tidy life you occupy. you're not going to punish him for his personality type.
except: he really does hate everyone but you. which means he doesn't get along with his therapist. which means he has no one to talk to except for you. which means you take care of him constantly, since he otherwise has no one. which means you sometimes have to apologize for him. which means he keeps you home from seeing your friends because he hates them. you're the single exception.
about a decade from this experience, you'll type into google: how to know if a relationship is codependent.
he wraps an arm around you. i hate everyone except you. these days, you're learning what he's actually confessing is i have very little practice being kind.

The Magician: “The representation of pure willpower. With the power of the elements and the suits, he takes the potential innate in the fool and molds it into being with the power of desire.” (x)
Not-so-little design breakdown below!
Of course Phil had to be the Magician. Take a look at his TATINOF and II segments—the literal reference is already there (and can be seen in his outfit, which is a mix of the TATINOF magician’s tuxedo and the II red button-up).
Not only that, the Magician is characterized as a “master manifester”. How many of this guy’s tarot predictions have come true? Talk about psychic manifestation abilities.
The wand held by the Magician traditionally represents balance, being a “perfect union” of two ends of a candle (x). What’s a more perfect union than PINOF itself, the pinnacle union of dnp’s channels in those first ten years? Hence, the wand in his hand became a Sharpie, and to mimic light emanating out of what would be a candle flame traditionally, I added cat whiskers in bright yellow.
The workbench in front of the Magician holds all four suits (pentacles, cups, swords, wands) to symbolize how everything can be channeled together to create (sorry, “craft”, taken verbatim from the website) new ideas and endeavors. The bench itself I stole straight out of the phouse (other side partial kitchen reveal yay), while the suits have been turned into dnp-project-related objects. The pentacle (glitterface pentagram) and sword (slime knife) are from DAPC, while the wand (Wii remote) and cup (Flame Susan mocktail) are from DAPG.
This card, helpfully, is surrounded by plants; I chose some of their non-crispy houseplants for the background. In the back, obviously, is the vine creeping along the cool black wall in the kitchen area. In the front, the fronds are inspired by plants I could see in the background of the 2nd London apartment AP set, accompanied by two roses (orange, for the flowers Dan receives at the end of WAD… and the orange heart).
I saw in the visual breakdown for the card that one site says the infinity above the Magician’s head represents “the equilibrium of opposites that The Magician requires to create”. That is THE most Dan and Phil thing I have ever heard, with all their cosmically coincidental opposite characteristics.
When I drew that infinity on the background though, on the phouse wall, it hit me. This is the “forever home”. Of course, there’s an infinity sign plastered on top of it. This revelation was so strong, I broke down and texted @bewareofthenewphannie about it.
Oh, and ginger quiff Phil? Thank Misty for that one, they suggested it would be a good look if I wanted to combine past and present in one outfit/style.
All in all, I had so much fun making this! What a pleasure and an honor to be a part of such a beautiful project. 🧡

it is my humble yet passionate belief that Deltarune takes place in 2009, here is my take on the lightners’ phones/devices
[ID: Digital paintings of five devices, each with the screen off.
The first is a silver and blue Nokia flip phone. It has a number pad and arrow keys, and a selfie camera on the front. Handwritten next to it is text in bullet points that reads “Kris’ flip phone. Nokia 6290 from 2006. Passed down from Asriel. Only has the number pad so they don’t text much and when they do it’s short messages. Nokia Arabic ringtone. Contains a frightening amount of low quality images.”
The second is a black iPod nano. The top right corner is heavily cracked and covers half the screen and so is the area around the circular select wheel, yet the device is still intact. Text next to it reads “Susie’s iPod Nano. iPod Nano Gen. 1 from 2005. Cracked as hell, 2 GB memory full. Still kickin’. Will work for another decade until she leaves it in her pocket and it goes through the washing machine (which has happened once already).”
The third is a Samsung slide phone. The top is sliver and the screen covers most of the front of the device, with answer, hang up, and a center button on the bottom. A black QWERTY keyboard slides out from under it. Attached to the phone are three charms, a smiling star, a Christmas tree, and a candy cane. Text next to it reads “Noelle’s slide phone. Samsung M900 Moment from 2009. Keyboard so she texts a lot and uses creative emoticons. Lots of charms. Stickers on the back.”
The fourth is an iPod touch. It has a dark blue case and has visible fingerprints on the touchscreen. Text next to it reads “Berdly’s iPod Touch. iPod Touch Gen. 2 from 2008. Crusty grody case. Greasy fingerprints (feather-prints??). Sometimes he plays games on there like solitaire, sudoku, fruit ninja when it comes out in 2010. Mostly uses it for YouTube (where he watches The Guild).”
The fifth is a black BlackBerry phone with a black and bright pink checkered case. The phone has a screen on the top half and a QWERTY keyboard on the lower half. Answer and hang up buttons and a silver center button are in the middle. Text next to it reads “Catti’s BlackBerry. BlackBerry Curve 8330 from 2007. Texts a lot. Lots of music on there. Beloved device, will not be replaced until it dies many years later.” End ID.]

oughh quiet pining…..
gazing at you fondly when you’re not paying attention, your hands brushing against each other and their heartbeat going crazy, finally having a moment alone to themself and just thinking of you, blushing and covering their face
they can’t say it, not yet, but…they’re so deeply and completely in love with you

I finally watched Gift of the Night Fury and I gotta say this is my favorite characterization of Astrid ever. Like I have no hate against her she’s always just been a yeah she’s cool kinda character to me but her being so optimistic in gotnf bordering on manic is so good to me. Her trying her best to forcefully bring cheer during sad times is so entertaining and gives her the chaotic touch that I always felt her character was missing. And those moments when it’s apparent that she’s really bad at comforting people sometimes is so funny to me it makes her feel a little more real.
Also I think the art style really helped I don’t know how to explain it other than it feels like they syringe fed like two tiny droplets of Tim Burton into it - it gives all the characters a slightly insane look in their eyes favorite animation style for em yet <3

What do your boys smell like?
I talked about this a bit on this earlier post and I don't think I have anything significant to add to it at this time. But I could tell you which perfumes they might wear in modern times? (Scents are hard to describe but I included some of their main notes to give you a vaguest idea of what they're like).
Vasco
État libre d'Orange - Tom of Finland (iris, leather, tonka bean)
Dior - Homme Parfum (leather, iris, rose)
Tom Ford - Tuscan leather (leather, woody, amber)
Machete
Heeley - Cardinal (linen, myrrh, frankincense)
État libre d'Orange - Rien Intense Incense (frankincense, amber)
Lalique - Encre Noire (cypress, vetiver)
