Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
Tumblr media
Bad movies come in many varieties but usually, they either waste your time or leave you feeling angry. If you’re lucky it might be one of those “So bad it’s good” titles but they’re few and far between. Christmas with the Kranks is another kind of bad entirely, a once-in-a-lifetime catastrophic miscalculation you (almost) have to see to believe.
When their daughter leaves for a year-long assignment with the Peace Corps, Luther and Nora Krank (Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis) lament the upcoming Christmas Holiday. That’s when Luther gets an idea. Instead of spending the money, time and effort going through the motions this season, he and his wife will go on a Caribbean cruise instead. When their co-workers and neighbors learn the Kranks are skipping Christmas, they desperately try to change their minds.
This scenario is only a few music cues away from being a horror film. While Luther and Nora act like aliens once they decide to forego the Christmas celebration - Luther goes so far as to write a memo and personally distribute it to everyone in his office - their neighbors are disturbingly obsessed with the holiday. Threatening phone calls, people observing them through their windows, dirty looks everywhere they turn… it’s like the Kranks walked into Midsommar or a holiday-themed version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Everyone is so creepy and obsessive about decorations up on the roof and other trivial things. The "Conform... or else!" message makes you wonder if the Communist Party didn’t secretly fund the picture.
What makes Christmas with the Kranks fascinating isn’t merely the tone-deaf story, it’s all the little details. At one point, Nora is uncertain about the holiday cruise thing. Her problem is that Luther doesn’t want to make the usual charital contributions. He asks her “Are you really going to let $600 stand in the way of our vacation?” You want her to turn around and ask him the same thing. Hey man, you’re saving $3,000 by going on this cruise rather than spending money on decorations, a tree, gifts, etc. Just consider that extra bit of money part of the investment. Then, after they make a big deal about the charity… several people - including the police with their calendars - approach the Kranks and are turned away. It doesn’t make sense but if they didn’t, we wouldn’t have the Kranks’ big dilemma in the third act: who can the Kranks ask for help when they’ve made enemies out of everyone in the neighborhood and all two police officers that make up the city's law enforcement?!
That was only one anomaly and it gave me enough material for an entire paragraph. Other memorable jaw-droppers are a scene in a tanning salon in which Nora is embarrassed when she walks out in a bikini and her priest stares at her cleavage, an extended gag about a Frosty the Snowman decoration that radiates evil, Luther getting botox injections that makes him unable to eat, and dozens of logical errors. It’s all tied together with horrible slapstick and an abundance of anti-cheer. You’ll hate everyone in this story at one point or another and the movie knows it but can’t tell its story without the Kranks being the villains in one scene… and the victims in the next.
The bow on top of the present is an ending so clumsy and artificial that it feels like it was taken from a completely different movie. You’re scratching your head, wondering if your eyes deceived you and then it hits you with another puzzler right before the end credits. There’s no way a 20-car pileup this fatal happens on purpose. Everyone involved thought they were achieving greatness but they couldn’t have been further from the truth. This makes Christmas with the Kranks a dreadful experience to watch but certainly never boring. It’s the kind of movie you could spend hours dissecting and discussing. I can’t think of any reason why you’d want to sit down with other human beings to watch it but if you do, at least it’ll get some conversations started. (December 4, 2020)

We are getting really close to the scene in lost fragment of snow that was genuinely confusing in the book, and it's the scene were everyone in the circus is killed. I think what we will probably get is a scene were mana finally ends up giving into despair after he is hit and then allen is fed to a lion.
I think that with more current info, i can say for sure that sleeve earl and mana are a hybird. This will likely cause a resurgence of sleeve earl into taking over the body and becoming whole. This only lasts for a short time however and when cross confronts him after the rest of the circus has died from the audience turning into akuma(which i suppose are implied to be constantly just around the earl and is probably one of the many reasons cross warned Allen to stay away) some exchange of words or damage causes a lots of control. This damage however also hurts mana(or potentially just being forced out off control) causing him to loose even more memories as seen when mana and Allen reunite the next day.
Now i think we can agree that sleeve earl exists as a third entity, especially since her recent art exhibit interview, as she talked about the suit being a super sophisticated golem. I think in this case as with tim and lero yhat "golem" refers to AI. Id argue with the weird phrasing like helix of life and all the biotech style that magic is more often than not just more advanced technology, and wherever the noahs came from likely was, hence why they say they only seem strong because we have become so weak. This is only further shown with innocences resemblance to machines like its gear like parts and percentage resonance.
The noah memories in general i think are some kind of AI that passes through generation lines, carrying significant portions of its past forward and then fusing with a similar person in their lineage. For example early on road would have been just road, then through some means either became an AI(or was given a piece of someone that counts as one under golem, its unclear). Regardless once connected to the noah memory, it acts like a save file and becomes more sophisticated with time. It carries each life and gives all those memories, feelings and drives to a new body. So new road would remember being road, her life and everything, but also the life they had been living up until the two combined. Over time the noah memory keeps getting larger and larger to the point new experiences are so small, relatively speaking, that it overrides much more than normal. Since they are fuzed as one being they likely cant be separated without mutually assured destruction, were the current entity will die and any remains will not be the origionals, if anything remains at all. An example of this is that tyki could not be made human by Allen I their fight i the arc, despite having a blade that should destroy only part of him. Admittedly tyki is a special case though, and more tyki backstory is needed.
Changes from body to body become more subtle, but the base, which likely has a distinct core function as seen by its response to certain tasks and ideas, remains a strong aspect. This creates an almost reincarnation like effect for them, needing to only find a new body to continue.
The suit is like this, but different. I don't know how the original earl split, but i do think that some aspect of him was placed on the suit. I would like to say its the original version of the noah memories of the earl and nea got like a brand new copy, but i actually have no idea what memories he has of being past earl so its mostly a guess. Regardless the noah actually all seem to transform in some way when they get mega pissed. Im looking at you skinn, jasdevi, and tyki/joyd. So the suit is likely that kind of thing, but way more distinct and capable of acting autonomously. Since they all have different forms it makes sense that his would also be unique. They all probably represent some inner desire related to their memory. Skinn is just rage so big angry man works fine. Jasdero and devit are bonds so they want most to be one. Tyki got all fucked up before he changed so i got nothing, but it had a heavy does of sadism, which I guess is pleasure? Taking into account that killing in horrible graphic ways is his guilty pleasure it kinda makes sense.
So because of that, this sentient AI is constantly trying to pair with half a fucking brain because nea and mana only share one brain cell. Some kind of resistance from mana or strain causes him to constantly fall ill or comatose. Now to be clear on naming, sleeve earl does not refer to themselves as adam in the mirror scene nor does he refer to mana as adam, and only uses "we" when talking to mana about being the earl. Oddly enough the earls self pronouns are we, using wagashi which is kind of like the japanese equivalent of the royal we used in europe for the entirety of the series. For the record, mana in the flashbacks uses male or single they pronouns, i don't remember if he uses boku or watashi, but he uses at least one if not both.
So from this it seems millennium earl is a title, used by whatever is paired with the suit. Adam is the original name of the noah, and is the preferred name of the current earl aside from the title.
This circumstance was likely caused by the rest of the noah, who are using the earl for something related by the pillar. His separation either by accident or by intent was likely by the hands of his family trying to keep control for their ends. This is why the current earl is called a broken puppet and has so many things around him related to acting and stage plays. He is playing a role, the red clown to allens white clown as stated in the ark arc. He even wears a mask. His memories and mind have been damaged though, therefore broken. However broken puppet for both allen and the earl could also refer to a puppet that doesnt work as a double meaning, implying they can no longer be controlled or puppeted.
It is also implied that he is still unaware of this betrayal, but it is likely nea does to some degree as it would explain why he became a traitor and killed his own family. To be clear, i dont think all of the noah know everything, and i dont think they dont actually care for the earl. It seems they still genuinely follow him to their death and see him as one of their own, especially in cases like road, tyki and wisely.
Now early i said that different generations of noah would cope woth reincarnating differently. Since the earl only died once before 7000 years ago, id say resetting to a new body with only 17 years would be just smashed flat by any algorithm with that much data. However manas feelings are still the newest, and so still have an impact even on the current earl.
Now we come to resurrecting mana. How? Why? Well i dont know. But my guess is whatever part was the memories of mana for the 20 or so years he lived, or at least his memories at death, are in allen. His curse and weird hallucinations of mana seem to suggest it. Alternatively that part of his soul may have passed on, or it fuzed with the noah memory making the origional mana part of the hive and much like tyki and his noah memories cannot be seperated. Not good regardless.
As two additional things, i want to mention that hoshino is a twin and has always been obsessed with it, so having twins in her book was inevitable. What is extra weird is hoshino was actually going to be a triplet, but either her or her sister absorbed it before birth. She has mentioned it in dgm interviews and i cant PROVE it translates to anything in the plot but its suspicious. She also still list mana, nea and the earl as distinct in every book up to date in extra novels and at the start of her books. Oh and her favorite hat for the earl right now? The one featured on the most recent chapter? Has two faces on the front that are visible, and one in the back thats hidden, and the most recent art has the back face as the only one visible, angrily staring allen down. Great art foreshadowing if im right. Its also usually sleeve earl, if not exclusively, that wear it.
The second thing is mana talking about love and drive in the most recent chapter just brings up the earl having the noah memory of love or devotion or something for me. Ive written about it before but it just seems to fit. This character is all about that from the ability to fuze loved ones together to the hearts he talks with and his drives being based on grand acts of devotion, being by their side etc. Mana also loved and adopted both and dog and a homeless child and keeps talking about how the world is so beautiful despite all the bad. The earl literally acts like the whole noah clans mom by his own words and cooks for them, and both of them go out of their way to be cartoony to break tension. The earl literally goes and buys a single red rose from a poor girl while tyki pontificate on how he doesnt act like a villain. He doesnt take an umbrella because he wants to feel the rain. He talks about how what he does is in human nature and requires a connection between two people. He is even designed with his ideal colors as red and purple with white, as well as being designed after flowers. I know this probably doesnt make sense, but its stuck in my head.

Who Am I?
I have attempted to dialogue the events in my life at least 100 times beforehand but probably more but could never bring myself to be completely honest.  Call this a personal inventory if you will.  I consider myself a better writer than most however when it comes to writing about myself my brain goes blank.  I know what I want to say, it’s just how do you go about telling anyone....”I am a Heroin addict.”
I have read a couple books about other addicts & have watched countless documentaries, movies, & shows about addiction.  Always paying close attention to how the writer unfolds his/her story trying to translate it to my own with little success.  I eventually came to the conclusion that so much has happened in the two decades of drug use that there is no way fathomable to include everything...at least not in your standard literary fashion.
A few days ago I stumbled across a new series on Netflix about a girl that liked to blog on Tumblr & suddenly I felt I may have an outlet to format this timeline of events.  Make no mistake about this...everything I write from this moment on is 100% true whether you choose to believe it or not.  Hell looking back....I don’t believe it sometimes & constantly find myself asking God why am I still here & why have so many perished before/besides me?  What makes me so special?
Most stories I read/watch about addiction are pretty generic.  It typically starts with someone who was injured & prescribed pain killers only to get cut off from the doctor & led down the dark & endless path of Heroin addiction.  They tell stories about the terrible things they did to maintain their habit & of loved ones they hurt along the way.  While I did horrible things as well, hurt & lost too many loved ones to addiction...this story is unlike any of the rest.  This is a story of addiction...obviously...but also one of organized crime, corruption, murder, extortion, jail/institutions, & love but mostly death.
Every addiction specialist or rehab I have been to always had the same fault....they try to find some underlying reason as to why I started, “self medicating,” & attempt to address it.  I’ve had numerous heated arguments with councilors & doctors who insisted I was suppressing something deep down & may not even know it!  While I have heard of such instances to actually be the case I can very well tell you I am as normal as you are.
I grew up in a child’s utopia in an upper-middle class suburb roughly 20 miles North of Detroit.  Think of the famous Tim Allen show, “Home Improvement.” Not only was I raised in Metro Detroit but I also come from a family of two parents, still married, & was the youngest of three boys.  I know most people’s perception of Detroit isn’t very high however in the 80′s & 90′s it was a great place to start a family.  Before the auto industry tanked most people skipped college to work on the assembly line at one of the, “Big Three,” (Ford, GM, or Chrysler) & lived comfortably.  My dad was a, “Safety Restraint Engineer,” for a subsidiary company with several patents still in use today!  We spent our days riding bikes through endless trails behind our house, building forts, playing back yard football, & camping in the backyard on warm summer nights.  My brothers & I were raised Catholic.  Went to Church every Sunday & Catechism on Thursday nights.  If I could change one thing about my childhood I wouldn’t.  It was that perfect!  My Father didn’t fail to raise a man...I failed to be the man he raised.
When someone asks me why I started doing drugs I tell them because it was fun....simple as that.  I know it sounds cliche but it’s true, everyone was doing them.  My older brothers were way ahead of me, listening to Grateful Dead & dropping acid in middle school!  I just liked drugs a lot more than everyone else. My mother knew I had an addictive personality because I would take everything I did to the max & always looked for instant gratification.  I never wanted to wait/work for anything.  I think my brothers were aware of this as well because they would NEVER sell me pot in these early days.  They wouldn’t even talk to me about it.  So as far as being as normal as everyone else....maybe that one’s a stretch.  On the other hand I was years ahead of my classmates & understood how things worked much easier than the majority of my class.
By the time I reached High School I was selling/smoking pot & hanging out with kids my age but it wasn’t long before I caught the attention of the older guys in the neighborhood.  I had already garnished a somewhat questionable reputation through my brothers by default & everyone knew my name from the paper route I had since I was roughly 12 years old.  At first they were intimidating & I hated whenever I had to deliver papers on one of their streets...praying they wouldn’t be outside playing basketball or something.  They always hung around the same two or three houses depending on who’s parents weren’t home that day.  If they saw me coming every one of them would stop what they were doing & aim their attention towards me.  All of them except one.  I knew his face & heard stories whispered about him in the hallways at school.  His name was Franco & he was not just the leader of their group...he was, “Head Fucking Hancho.”  You know the scene from mob movies where people from the neighborhood come to sit with the boss & ask him all kinds of favors in return for their loyalty?  That was Franco at age 15!  He had everyone’s respect....even that of my older brothers who looked up to nobody.  If you had a disagreement with Franco it didn’t go far.  I’ve seen him hit guys so hard they temporarily lost the ability to speak!  After a couple minutes of hazing from the guys he would shout from the porch telling them to leave me alone & they would scatter like roaches!
These encounters would eventually lead up to my first drug deal.  Up until that point I had been stealing whatever I could from whichever brother wouldn’t notice at the time & smoking/selling it with & to my friends.  They eventually caught me & beat the living shit out of me.  I don’t think they were actually mad about the missing weed it was more about not stealing from your brother.  The same day I was caught stealing weed I planned on meeting several kids from school at a friends house & of course everyone was expecting me to bring the pot.  To this day I don’t know how I got the phone number or the guts to call it but I reached out to Franco’s best friend Mark.  I don’t really no why I chose him....any of the older guys could have found me weed.....but I knew Mark sold it regularly & to pretty much anyone.  There was no cell phones at this time so I had to call his house.  He wasn’t as angry as I expected & told me to wait 5 minutes before riding my bike towards his side of the neighborhood.  I did exactly as he instructed me to & before I could get to the end of my street he was pulling up in a dark green Ford Ranger...Frank was with him riding in the passenger seat.  Mark got out...threw my bike in the back of his truck telling me to hop in the backseat before getting back behind the wheel & pealing off.  The music was so loud I could barely understand the lyrics over the bass let alone what Frank & Mark were saying but it didn’t matter because they weren’t talking to me.  At the time I thought Mark must want to get out of the neighborhood before doing the deal but after getting to know him I learned...that was his, “thing”.  He loved to drive around, blaring music, & smoking weed with whoever was willing to tag along.  He hated driving alone & his truck was like his office.  Frank acted as if I wasn’t even there...holding a cool composure looking out the window while nodding his head to the music.  Eventually we pulled down a random street, where Mark turned down the music before pulling the truck over.  He turned around & asked me how much money I wanted to spend before opening a large grocery bag filled to the top with little, “dime bags,” or roughly a large gram of weed in each bag.  I don’t know if it was how he had them bagged up but it was more than I had ever seen in one place at the time & my brothers always had a lot.  I had a handful of crinkled five′s & one dollar bills I collected from my friends earlier in the day at school.  It came out to around $24.  I remember it was less than $25 because Mark insisted that an 8th cost $25 & that I was a dollar short.  I didn’t even know what an 8th was or how much it cost but didn't want to screw up my first deal so I pretended it was just an honest mistake & he threw three bags in my lap.  Franco asked where I was going & asked if I needed a ride which I humbly excepted.
From that day on things changed little by little with every passing day.  I hung out less & less with the kids my age to be around Mark, Frank & the rest of the older guys.  They saw me as the kid who could sell a lot of weed since I already had that reputation from my classmates.  I saw them as a ticket to popularity.  In my mind it was an even trade.  My mother had an entirely different opinion.....constantly telling me I should be hanging around with my younger friends.  To me it was harmless....choosing to see it as normal for a kid my age.  I had no idea where this new found friendship would lead us.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into.
As I was saying before....so much has happened since this day that I cannot even begin to piece it all together in a manner in which it flows conveniently into a timeline of events.  This is the beginning of my attempt & you will have to stick with me to learn more as I continue to publish.  I will warn you upfront that I will be changing some names, maybe even places or be vague as I am still getting death threats to this day & also don’t want to negatively impact any of the families that have already been ripped apart from unimaginable losses.  Lastly I am still weary about telling my story in it’s entirety.  I am sure those who are close to me will be able to figure out who I am since most of what I am going to tell you has never been a secret save one part.  I have never told ANYONE the FULL story other than my parents.  I feel it is the main reason I have struggled in all my attempts at telling/writing what actually happened.  Please understand that I take absolutely NO pride in the things I have done & only feel I need to document what I went through so maybe the next kid contemplating the path I chose....will rethink the decision.  I can tell you now their is no glory or honor in what we did & the end result was nothing but pain & suffering for our victims as well as ourselves.  I really hope nobody reads this the wrong way & that I am able to accurately portray the pain/anguish we caused so they realize how brainwashed we were & the impact you can have on others no matter how minor you think it is.  You have to stand up against what may seem to be the correct/hard decision at the time or even a harmless one that you know in your heart/gut is questionable & choose to do what you know to be right.  The definition of the word, “popular,” is; liked, admired, or enjoyed by many people or by a particular person or group.  The groups that are using/selling drugs are the minority & in the end you will find most are not truly your friend.  When I go on social media, looking back at all the kids I graduated with, I realize now that those who did well in school & actively participated were actually the, “cool kids.”  They are the ones posting pictures of new houses, nice cars & beautiful wives with blossoming families.  There is nothing cool about being alone & having nothing to show for the last two decades of your life but scars.  It is not romantic in any way shape or form.  You will not find comfort.
Stay tuned for more to come!

Super Force (1990 TV series)
 In the year 2020 Astronaut Zach Stone returns to earth from the first mission to Mars. When he returns he finds his older brother who was a cop has been murdered after being framed by a corrupt billion dollar company that secretly runs the police force. Stone decides he will become a cop but when he finds the system is too corrupt or filled with soulless pay cheque worshiping goons he also takes up a night person as Superforce. Wearing a Robocop meets Power Rangers outfit and riding a suped up motorcycle that would make Cyclone jealous. Tech made by his friends Larry B Scott and talking computer Patrick Macnee (badly animated since they could afford to have Macnee around enough). Randomly making up new powers like his super nightstick and his electro force field. Made to air after the Superboy tv series of the time with costumes designed by the same guy that worked on the 90s Flash tv series this show covered every 90s superhero stereotype visually and contextually. Obviously suffering from budget cuts mean that some scenes jumped pretty hard as not much of the show flowed well. Random ascetic changes from dry sci fi to psychedelic 60s like super hero antics switching to Tim Burton twisted picket fences back to noir burnt out ugly future city wastelands. The issue with super hero 90s story telling is no one knew what style to keep it in , since the comic book makers all so had so many styles then the TV and film makers tried to  homage them all at once.
Tumblr media
  Even if you never saw an episode of this before you will feel like you did as it does so many low budget 90s things that shows like Flash or even sci fis like Trancers did with future fashion choices only the 90s could design. The female police offers wear skirts so short and sports jackets with shoulder pads so big. The outfits that the star Ken Olandt wears along make him look like a cross between the Mask and the Griswalds when they go shopping in France in National Lampoons European Vacation. I wont go much on spoilers as the 2 hr pilot is online and I will link it on facebook and some of my social medias but the evil head of the corporations is an old white man being in a future wear Asian currency is in control so he is now somehow Asian as well. A sort of a Fu Manchu kinda thing. The villain is played by G Gordon Libby , yes the FBI agent from the Watergate scandal turned actor. As the series goes on the Supercop called Superforce would battle people like Lou Ferrigno , ex porn star Ginger Lynn Allen, LSD cult psychologist Timothy Leary and WCW wrestler STING.
Tumblr media
  Expect me to rant about this on a future podcast as its this weeks timely obsession just like my obsession with Baywatch Nights recently. A future of bad style and corporate control of our police, pretty spot on except we never got to mars and our shoulder pads are not as big as Beat Arthurs... other than that this show wasn't too far off. Also the present day has let prove that some bad guys are or are not secretly robots.. oh spoiler for the pilot wwwhhoops
Here is the first 4 episodes edited together as a full length movie ripped from a 1990 vhs tape... watch if you dare to live this 90s fever dream .

Title: Fly With Me Word Count: About 14k Genre: Fantasy-Adventure Fandom/Universe: Green Lantern, Flash (comics) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Hal Jordan/Guy Gardner/John Stewart/Alan Scott Warnings: Mild/implied body dysphoria Rating: PG-ish Summary: When Watchman Barry Allen arrives to a grisly murder scene, the last thing he expects is the enigmatic dragonlords of the realm to arrive and ask for him specifically. They are handsome and charming, but the existence of enormous fire-breathing flying lizards that seem to exert some kind of... Strange emotional aura is more than a little terrifying. He is introduced to the prince of these dragonlords, Hal, and steps up to be taken back to the towering natural fortress of Oa, a massive hollowed out mountain that sits on the edge of the continent. Called the 'weyr', Oa is home to the dragons and their riders, and Barry soon finds himself welcomed inside with all the honours that a prince might receive. In the morning after a restless night's sleep he is bathed and anointed, and taken down deep beneath the mountain to a holy underground sea, where he must confront the mysterious Lord of Oa and receive the prize for which he had been chosen: A dragon egg, rare and precious. The last third of the story will be hatching the dragon, and a montage of sorts with Barry further bonding with the dragon riders and forming a... Tentative proto-romantic relationship with them. He trains in arms with Guy, learns the histories and concepts of the weyr with John, is taught about the running and logistics of Oa from Alan, and finally Hal tutors him on bonding with his dragon, and eventually flying with it. The broad aesthetic of the fic is very much generic medieval fantasy, set mostly in the mountainous fortress/castle of Oa. Characters vary a little bit from canon appearances, mostly in regards to hairstyles and the like, but a few characters are trans, which is mostly going to be a background detail. There are no warnings except for a crime scene early on (which will be edited down) and brief discussions of trans characters being trans, so there's a bit of mild dysphoria but no explicit details or transphobia/homophobia. There is implied polyamory and age difference, but everyone is consenting adults and nothing is properly established in this fic.

3 Title: Forth My Mimic Comes Word Count: 19k Genre: Mystery, Supernatural Fandom/Universe: Batman (mostly comics) Characters/Pairings: Gen; Jason Todd, Barbara Gordon, Tim Drake Warnings: past canon character death, non-consensual bodyswap, thoughts that could be construed as non-specific suicidal tendencies (i.e., "I was already dead, if I die again it's no big deal," etc.) Rating: PG/T Summary: Robin saves a boy from being hit by a car, only to discover that the victim is none other than a very alive (if comatose) Jason Todd. An already unusual situation turns even more bizarre when an unfortunate turn of phrase and an errant bit of magic cause Jason and the current Robin to end up in each other's bodies. Knowing it's only a matter of time before Bruce learns of the switch and locks him up in a fit of paranoia, Jason must seek the help of the enigmatic (and familiar) Oracle to fix the problem, all the while learning far more than he ever wanted to know about the boy who replaced him. Takes place immediately following Jason's resurrection in a slightly canon-divergent timeline, primary locations being the clock tower, manor, and cave (and all of Gotham, because patrol).

4 Title: Pussycat, Pussycat, Where Have You Been? Word Count: 4,579 of 5k Genre: Mystery Fandom/Universe: Batman (comics) Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle, Tommy Elliot Warnings: Nonconsensual body modification, some torture Rating: PG-13 Summary: Selina Kyle is missing. Bruce finds mannequins and dummies of her around Gotham, each with a modified nursery rhyme about cats. Bruce follows these clues all across Gotham, growing more desperate to find her. Finally, he confronts the villains of Gotham and finds Selina, only to find Hush there as well. They battle and Bruce rescues Selina and takes her back to the Batcave. This takes place solely in Gotham, from the streets and graveyards of Gotham, to beneath Arkham Asylum, to the Batcave.
~ ~ ~
5 Title: Daily Gab Word Count: 5776 Genre: Coming Out Fic Fandom/Universe: Batfam Characters/Pairings: Jon/Damian, Damian & Dick Warnings: Bullying Rating: PG-ish Summary: Damian finds a tabloid taped to his locker at school. The headline? "Wayne Kid... Gay?" He endures a day at school listening to the gossip from all the other kids. Dick does the brotherly thing and helps Damian sort through all he's feeling. Damian admits to Jon what the tabloid said and why he's been running scared all day, they talk about the reality of what they want together and Bruce manages to be a real father for once. Summary I'm posting when I post the fic: Damian swallowed against the bile in his throat and carefully took in his next breath, walking himself through the steps of emotional calm. Pretend this was only torture. Pretend it was only a gunshot wound. Pretend it was only his body in pain and not his heart and his mind. Remove himself from the situation and take a few steps backwards from the reality of it.

6 Title: Stay My Tragedy Word Count: 16k Genre: Drama, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance Fandom/Universe: Batman, Deathstroke, Red Hood Characters/Pairings: Slade/Jason Warnings: explicit sex, angst, descriptions of violence, references to self harm, slight dubcon, problematic relationship Rating: NC-17 Summary:
Soul marks can appear at anytime in one’s life -- a mark of karmic destiny that most people take to mean they’ve met the person they’re meant to fall in love with. Jason knows that’s not true. He knows because his soul mark appeared in the very last moments before he died -- marking his destiny to be murdered by the hands of a madman.
It is a world in which fate is unbelievably cruel, when Jason’s soul mark is of none other than the man who murdered him. Slade has other ideas however, and he might just be the one man who can change Jason's tragic fate into something else.

7 Title: New Horizons Word Count: 6091 Genre: Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Canon Divergence/AU Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown, Tim Drake Warnings: Major Character Death, Abusive Parents, Child Trafficking Ring, Drugs Rating: PG Summary: Jason, Tim, and Stephanie meet while Jason still holds the Robin mantle. Jason is suddenly thrust into life with a billionaire (and vigilante), but not everyone might want him there. Story is mostly set in Gotham and Wayne Manor, with a few scenes in Titans Tower. The Major Character Death is Jason, but it happens off screen and in the epilogue. The Abusive Parents is Tim's parents neglecting him. Drugs are a passing mention. The Child Trafficking Ring is a major plot point.

8 Title: You’re saving Blüdhaven but who saves you? Word Count: 3457 Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Humor Fandom/Universe: Batman/Nightwing comics, Under the Red Hood Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd/JayDick – Jason Todd/Dick Grayson Warnings: child’s death, mentions of rape, canon typical violence, non consensual drug use, incest (pseudo-incest? Jason and Dick were adopted), self esteem issues Rating: T/Teen And Up Audiences /PG14+ Summary: After a kid got killed Dick, already in a bad place, decides that his only option to make a difference is to fight crime in a different way. He decides to partner up with a carefully chosen criminal and Red Hood caught his attention even if some of their morals are on the opposite sides of the scale. This somehow leads to Dick having an elusive roommate he developed an attraction to. It’s a shame no one told him Red Hood is in fact Jason. This story is canon divergence or alternate universe and takes place after the events with Blockbuster and Tarantula in Nightwing comics and intertwines with some happenings from Under the Red Hood. The action is placed mainly in Blüdhaven, but there are trips to Gotham and Wayne Manor. The story has a romantic relationship between adopted brothers. The rape is mentioned several times and one of the character is forcibly drugged. It also contains description of child’s death and violence.

9 Title: A Bit(e) Wild Word Count: 5-6k total, 4k written Genre: mostly Angst/Fluff but some Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Losers/Batfamily, no particular series Characters/Pairings: established Jensen/Cougar, will be Jensen/Cougar/Jason Todd later in series. Background canonical Pooch/Jolene, mention of Clay/Aisha. Warnings: Graphic violence, swearing, maybe sex in the flashback Rating: Explicit. Even if no sex happens yet, it will later, and there's also the violence to consider. Summary: The Losers have just barely taken down Max and cleared their names; Jensen's still cleaning up post-mission but they're all back home. Jason Todd's preparing to move back to Gotham and butt heads with Batman when a bit of pest control ends with him bitten by a wolf shifter. He didn't think the Pit's aftereffects would allow him to be changed, or that he'd call the Losers for backup again, but of all the people Talia had him learning from, Cougar's the only shifter he knows he can trust if this IS the dreaded change coming on. Cue frantic phone call. The Losers load up and head out immediately, but Pooch brings his family just in case, Clay rides up with Roque, and Jensen and Cougar lead the charge because they've already got the shifter genes and being bitten again isn't going to do anything to them (Jake is a recent change; Cougar was born a shifter). By the time the others arrive, they've got Jason settled and all three are in their animal forms. Jensen is a wolf, Cougs is a cougar, Jason is a snow leopard. After the first few lessons, Jason gets impatient--maybe the Pit, maybe new instincts, partly the knowledge that the Losers aren't going to just let him leave until he's got enough control over his shifter side to satisfy Cougar. He tries to slip out in the night, half hoping they won't follow him, subconsciously aware this will be much easier with trusted backup. Every Loser was expecting this, though, and when Jason slinks off to Gotham, they're still mostly packed and ready to head out. It doesn't take them long to follow.

10 Title: where monsters lie (in dead men's dreams) Word Count: ~75k total, 47.7k written (including unfinished draft) Genre: Drama, Horror, Angst Fandom/Universe: Batman Arkham Games, and a lot of creative liberty taken with comic canon and the traditional Alpha/Beta/Omega AU Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd/Dick Grayson, Jason Todd/Bruce Wayne, Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson Warnings: Non-con, Dub-con, Drugging, Non-traditional ABO Dynamics, Bondage, Descriptions of Torture, Pseudo Incest, Kinky/Rough Sex, Intersexed Characters, Background Polyamory, Angst, Murder Rating: R Summary: Oracle enlists Red Hood's reluctant help to find Batman and Nightwing, who have disappeared during an arms bust deal orchestrated by the Penguin. They've been captured and dosed with a perverted form of the Scarecrow's latest toxin, and the effects of the toxin force the three of them to face their feelings for each other. All Jason wants to do is run away, except Dick won't let him leave. Things grow more complicated when the Penguin re-emerges with a threat none of them had expected, and Jason takes it upon himself to teach the Penguin a permanent lesson. Meanwhile, Dick has been experiencing random bouts of mania and murderous intent, ever since getting dosed with the toxin. By the time he confronts Jason about the Penguin's vicious murder, Jason sees more of the Joker in Dick than he does in his nightmares. Fortunately for them both, there's no mystery in Gotham that Batman can't solve in time. The story is set in Gotham City, 1.5-2 years post the game Batman: Arkham Knight, but also features several flashbacks of bastardized canon scenes from the comics. If you're a stickler for canon, this will probably kill you dead so please bear that in mind. Besides that, there is a single instance of non-con and another instance of molestation. There are also two implied sex scenes which can be considered dub-con. There is pseudo-incest between Jason, Dick and Bruce. The Penguin gets tortured to death but the torture occurs off-screen and only the results are described in graphic detail. The polyamory is mentioned throughout but does not occur on-screen.

11 Title: The Sacredness of Tears Word Count: 13k Genre: Romance, character study, elements of fantasy and drama/angst Fandom/Universe: Batman comics, set in the future and using events from New Earth and the current continuity Characters/Pairings: Tim Drake/Jason Todd, Tim Drake-centric Warnings: temporary character death, pseudo-incest, canon-typical violence, discussions of mental illness, parental abuse through neglect, swearing Rating: PG-13 (maybe R for swearing?) Summary: Tim Drake Wayne isn’t weak. He can’t be. And now that he can travel through time, he has the perfect tool to make sure he’ll never be vulnerable again. Gradually, Tim’s family, friends, and his slowly blossoming relationship to Jason teach him otherwise. The story is set in Gotham with scenes in Tim’s apartment, the Batcave, a diner and various rooftops. There are scenes with multiple members of the batfamily and Tim’s team. The romantic scenes are focused on cuddling and size difference. The plot spans several years. Tim is eighteen at its beginning and twenty-five at its end. There is one detailed description of a meltdown or anxiety/panic attack. There are discussions of mental illness; some symptoms of depression are shown, especially withdrawing from the world and diminished self-worth, but nothing too bad and absolutely no hint of self-harm or suicide. Jason dies in one scene (not the canonical temporary death), but that is quickly reversed. There are descriptions of injuries. The parental abuse refers to Tim’s and Jason’s canonical backstories, not Bruce (who tries to be a good parent in this).

12 Title: The Nightingale Word Count: ~14k total, 8.5k written Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Alternate Universe, Drama, Healing Fic (kinda) Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types, Red Hood and the Outlaws Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd Warnings: No Warnings Apply Rating: NC-17 Summary: Crushed by the guilt of Jason's death, Dick quits the vigilante life, gives up Nightwing, begs Bruce for a clean slate, and runs away to New York City. He takes shelter at the Nightingale, a nightclub where Dick works as an exotic dancer, a stripper named Richie. Dick uses the blinding stage lights, Bloody Marys, and a mysterious man named Jay to hide his past. However, Dick's rather painful former life is slowly uncovered by Jay through a series of one night stands. Meanwhile, Dick also has some unconventional run-ins with the Red Hood, a supposed antihero working in the tri-state area and associated with the family Dick has not had any relations with for over five years. Old wounds reappear, and Dick's new life slowly falls apart around him as the truth comes to light. Set primarily in NYC, in the Nightingale nightclub and at the different hotel rooms Jay books. Towards the end, Dick and Jason will eventually move back into Gotham City and Wayne Manor. Story takes place five years after Jason's death. Dick's "new" life is an emotional roller coaster of hurt/comfort, a path of healing, a life built on lies, and identity porn woven all throughout it, until it is all untangled in the end.

13 Title: Between Flight Word Count: ~15k, 10.8k written Genre: Romance, Drama, Humor, Alternate Universe Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd Warnings: No Warnings Apply Rating: PG-13 Summary: Jason is a 15-year-old orphan, living at a crappy orphanage, going to school because it is the only fun in life, and dreaming of the day he becomes eighteen. After a little altercation with a pickpocket, Jason meets Robin, and from that night on, Jason could not get rid of the Boy Wonder. Coincidentally, Dick Grayson starts at Jason's school as well, and decides to befriend him of all people. Jason finds himself being tugged in two directions - towards a charming and talkative circus boy with a past similar to his, and towards Gotham's own hero in scaly panties. Over the course of a couple weeks, Jason is dumped at a school dance, kissed on rooftops, taken on dates a couple times a week, and even glared at by the Batman himself. Needless to say, Jason finds that his life is a lot more interesting after he met both Dick and Robin. But of course things smell fishy to Jason. Especially when Robin knows tricks that only Mr. Circus Boy can do. Or when Dick uses the same girly shampoo as the teen hero. Or when their identical disarming smiles send bursts of happiness straight through Jason's heart. Batman might be the World's Greatest Detective, but Jason Todd is not so shabby either. Set primarily at Jason and Dick's high school, the orphanage, the rooftops of Gotham City, the luxurious halls of Wayne Manor, with special appearances of "date" locations around the city. Jason is 15, while Dick is 17.

14 Title: Moon Dust On Your Lips Word Count: ~6100 Genre: Romance, First Time, Mutual Pining Fandom/Universe: Batman and Green Lantern, no specific canon Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Hal Jordan Warnings: Mild sub/Dom, explicit sex, biting and bruising, praise kink Rating: NC-17 Summary: The Justice League is trying to expand their potential pool of allies in the known universe, and with the help of their Green Lanterns, they set off to personally negotiate with as many people as they can. Everyone is involved, but it mostly falls to Bruce/Batman and Hal Jordan. The longer Bruce and Hal work together, the more Bruce let's Hal see under the cowl, and the more Hal starts to like what he sees. Bruce even accepts advice from Hal on an issue dealing with his children. Then Hal, returning exhausted from a mission to Oa, loses his temper at the tail end of a League meeting. He says something stupid within Batman's hearing, and then goes off to get decidedly drunk with Barry. Hal confesses that he has a crush on Bruce, but there isn't anyway that he can see it ever happening, so he decides to just ignore it and move on with his life. Bruce doesn't exactly get the memo right away, but as soon as Hal starts physically distancing himself from Bruce as much as possible, their tentative friendship falls to the wayside. Soon, Bruce and Hal are back to being uneasy coworkers. It culminates with Bruce and Hal on the return trip of another successful negotiation, when their escorts decide to up and leave them in the Middle of Nowhere, Spaceville in a small, cramped, one man space pod. There's an argument, confessions, and then sex, before being rescued. The story takes place in a variety of locations, including Wayne Manor, the Watchtower, Barry's apartment, and the space pod. The sex will include Bruce manhandling a very willing Hal, with some rougher edges (biting and bruising, praise kink).

Hal turns the tide on Bruce, teasing him until Hal decides he's ready to ride Bruce to their mutual completion. This takes place solely in Bruce's and Hal's bedroom in the Manor, described as having a darker color scheme with blues, blacks, and grays. All kinks are negotiated prior to the story, as this is a well established, husbands!fic. No noncon here.

16 Title: Hold Me Tight (or Don't) Word Count: 6055 Genre: Mystery, Angst, possible supernatural elements Fandom/Universe: Batman, no specific universe Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne, Talia al Ghul, Conner Kent, Jason Todd Warnings: Medical experiments, but non-graphic Rating: Teen Summary: Sometimes, a Family is you, your Beloved's dead kid in a coma, and your Beloved's best friend's "clone" who's other gene donor is sort-of kind-of your boss off to play at politics Or There’s been a rash of robberies in Gotham, leaving Batman puzzled as to what the villains are up to, all the while seeing Jason appear to him, even though he’s been dead for a few weeks. Meanwhile. Talia takes care of a comatose Jason, while discovering Lex’s secret project taking a form no one expected. On the other side of bay/river, Clark is investigating a mysterious Cadmus fire, under a building Lex Luthor (who is now the president) owns. Not to mention the mysterious new villain who may be more connected to the robberies in Gotham that it seems.

17 Title: untitled as of yet! Word Count: 3039 Genre: 5+1 things, fluff, probably eventual smut Fandom/Universe: dc extended universe, films 2013-present Characters/Pairings: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne Warnings: none Rating: T at the moment, will likely slide into M/E Summary: After a few months of working together side-by-side as a team while not actively trying to kill each other (even in their spare time), Clark realizes he’s developed Feelings for Bruce. He knows Bruce is stubborn and self-isolating, so he decides the best plan is to figure out a way to make things a little (incidentally) romantic without scaring off Bruce: little notes on rooftops, a dubiously agreed upon makeover by Lois, advice from Barry and Victor and Diana—even Alfred ends up in on the game. Unfortunately for Clark, Bruce is even more slippery (or oblivious) than he ever imagined. Maybe what Clark really needs is a little help from a Higher Authority… or, the five times Clark Kent tried (and failed) to seduce Bruce Wayne, and the one time Bruce Wayne allowed himself to be epically seduced.

18 Title: the weight of eventuality Word Count: 24,000 Genre: Romance, /Action, Drama Fandom/Universe: CWTV Flash (2014) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart, Team Flash Warnings: canon typical violence, graphic sex Rating: NC-17 Summary: Life was pretty great for Barry Allen, honestly. Team Flash successfully pulled him out of the Speed Force, he still had his job, and all of his friends and family where there to support him. Eddie and Iris were expecting their first child, and even with everything that happened between Caitlin and Julian, the team worked as well as ever together. Barry didn't want to tell them that he was still slipping backward and forward in time, or that every night the Speed Force made him witness the death of Leonard Snart. Rescuing Leonard was easy. Falling in love with him? not really part of the plan. With Captain Cold back in Central City, it was hard to remember that there were other people out there who wanted to do more than flirt and steal pretty jewelry. It was just a matter of time until they made their move. This story takes place mostly in Central City, with a detour into the Speed Force. There isn't really anything to warn for, I think. There's an explicit consensual sex scene near the end of the story, and canon typical violence and injury. There's some mention of minor medical procedures. There's technically some torture, but that happens off screen and Barry is in the speed force of the entirety of it, so there's no graphic detail.

19 Title: your continental divides Word Count: 9k Genre: Hurt/Comfort Fandom/Universe: DCU. not set in a specific universe, borrows from several continuities. Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson centric, Batfam and company, Gen Warnings: non-con Rating: PG-13 Summary: After Catalina Flores, Dick is dealing the way Bruce taught him: push it down and carry on. It's not working out very well, and people are starting to catch on. The story is set mostly in Gotham, and guests a few characters besides the batfam (mostly Wally and Roy). It's essentially just an exercise in letting Dick be comforted by the people who love him. This focuses on dealing with the sexual assault from Nightwing #93. The assault is not graphically depicted but is referenced and discussed, in addition to self-destructive behaviors and a variety of coping mechanisms.

20 Title: Broken Wings and Notched Arrows. Word Count: Around 6-6.5k total. 4,280 written Genre: Action, Romance, Drama. Fandom/Universe: Young Justice, Batman. Characters/Pairings: Will Harper (Roy Harper's clone)/ Jason Todd Warnings: Temporary Character death, mild language, mild violence, small age gape, Rating: NC-17 Summary: The only thing Will Harper wanted to be doing that fine winter morning was to play dress up with his beautiful daughter Lian. What he got however was a surprise visit from the legendary Bruce "Batman" Wayne. And if that wasn't a big enough shock being hired by said legend was icing on the cake. So now instead of spending Christmas with Lian Will is kind of, maybe being held against his will on Infinity Island. Bright side he did find Jason Todd like he was hired to. This story takes place in multiple locations. The main set is in the Caribbeans, mostly Infinity Island and the League of Assassins HQ. It also show cases Will's home in Star City and a major fight screen in Gotham. There is no major warnings. Temporary Character death as Jason Todd doesn't stay dead for long. Some violence but nothing more then a few short details of fight scenes. No gore just a little blood.

Jason's back in Gotham. All he wants to do is figure out how he can successfully help fix his city, without falling foul of the rest of the Bats and the GCPD again. He's even hung up his red hood in an attempt to stay under the radar. When he discovers that Alfred is in danger from the gang he's investigating, he infiltrates a costume ball at Wayne Manor in disguise as a supervillain. He ends up flirting with Dick to stop him interfering with the rescue plan. Dick doesn't realise who he is and flirts back until they end up making out furiously in a closet. Afterwards neither of them can get the encounter out of their heads, and they start to get to know each other again. Featuring conversations with Alfred, Dick attending a party in a Superman costume, Jason spray painting his red hood grey, everyone rescuing each other and lots and lots of pining. Warning for pseudo-incest between the adopted brothers, Dick and Jason when they reach adulthood.

23 Title: we just now got the feeling that we're meeting (for the first time) Word Count: Around 36K (34K written) Genre: Drama, Romance, Fluff, Angst Fandom/Universe: Superman and Batman, DCEU canon/movie canon Characters/Pairings: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne; Lex Luthor, Diana Prince, Barry Allen, Arthur Curry, Victor Stone Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Rating: Teen Summary: While fighting Lex Luthor for his latest weapon, a time weapon, Bruce Wayne gets hit and sent back twenty years into the past. Meeting Clark Kent on some snowy mountain side in Alaska was not exactly what Bruce thought would happen, but he’s here now and there’s nothing for him to do except wait for his team to pull him back to the future. Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite know when that will be, so sticking with Clark is his best option. Of course, it would be much easier if Bruce wasn’t already pining for Clark in the future. How long until Bruce is pulled back into the future, and will he be able to stop himself from falling in love with Clark Kent in the past and potentially creating a time paradox? This story is set in a couple of locations. Most of it is set in the past in Alaska during the beginning of Clark’s pilgrimage, specifically in the Denali National Park. Other locations include the Wayne-Turned-League Manor, Bruce’s Lake-House in Gotham city, and the lake itself! Primarily it involves young versions of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, although the very beginning section and at the last few parts of the end is focused on the present/older versions of them. There are no Archive Warnings that apply to this story. It is mainly an excuse to just write cute scenes of Bruce and Clark falling in love in the snow with the added bit of dealing with time travel, with a lot of focus on Bruce Wayne's character! The most rated this story goes is the occasional swear word.

26 Title: Make an Ass of U and Me Word Count: probably 10k-12k (6k written) Genre: Romance, Comedy Fandom/Universe: DCEU Characters/Pairings: Clark/Bruce, Dick&Bruce Warnings: sort of assumed incest, but no actual incest Rating: Teen Summary: Bruce neglects to tell the newly formed Justice League that he has a son, because he and Dick aren't talking to each other . Until they suddenly are. Unfortunately, he doesn't clarify who exactly Dick is to him, so Clark gets the wrong impression. Or: Five times Clark thought Dick was Bruce's boyfriend, and the one time he found out the truth. 27 Title: Honey Trap Word Count: 7.7k Genre: Porn-with-plot, crime/modern AU Fandom/Universe: DCU (Comics) Characters/Pairings: Slade Wilson/Jason Todd, Dick Grayson Warnings: Consent issues (consent is there on both sides, but dubious on one side due to situation), manipulation, some BDSM-style kink Rating: NC17 Summary: Slade's used to dealing with informants. Most get caught in the screening process before they ever get a hold of anything useful, but this one, 'Jason Todd,' gets as far as working in the lower ranks of his organization before Billy drops the file on his desk. Another attempt at an undercover CI from Detective Grayson, this time just some random arrested civilian, instead of a fellow officer. Billy would prefer that he throw him out now, but Todd's not bad looking, and Slade likes the idea of ruining this plant just like he ruined the last one. Modern AU, no-capes. Aside from sex scenes, one character is primarily in part/all of a suit throughout scenes. As Slade is aware from the start that Jason's a plant, the sex has some consent issues. Jason is doing it partly to ingratiate himself, and Slade absolutely manipulates him into it. However, Jason enjoys/consents to everything that happens, it's only the situation that's sketchy.

28 Title: Don't Let Your Yearnings Get Ahead of Your Earnings Word Count: 7.2k Genre: Western, technically Romance Fandom/Universe: DCU (Comics) Characters/Pairings: Slade Wilson/Jason Todd Warnings: Some non-consensual touching, non-sexual Rating: PG-13 Summary: Slade Wilson is a bounty hunter, one of the best in the business. The contracts that specify 'alive and unharmed' are rarer, but usually worth the extra bonus that comes with. This one is definitely not. Jason Todd was supposed to be just another young outlaw with more balls than brains, not a slippery sharpshooter who Slade would have to chase halfway to the next town. And just to add to everything, he still has to get the damned boy all the way back. That's going to be fun. Western AU with bounty-hunter Slade and an outlaw-ish Jason. Most of the story is traveling, but there will be an inside-mansion scene near the end with Roman Sionis. No real warnings for this. There's some brief non-consensual touching of intimate bits, but it's entirely non-sexual.

29 Title: [insert song lyric here] Word Count: 8084 Genre: It's a slowburn at its core, with action and drama mixed in Fandom/Universe: DCAU's Justice League/Unlimited Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Wally West, Shayera Hol, J'onn J'onzz, John Stewart, Diana, Clark Kent Warnings: human trafficking, threat of dub/non-con, language, sexual themes Rating: R Summary: Ever since their run in with the Justice Lords, Flash and Batman reached a new stage in their teammates-but-not-quite-friendship. The only problem is Flash is the only one who seems to think that, so he decides to see how far he can push at Batman's annoyance level before the Bat snaps at him. Unfortunately for Flash, their job keeps getting in the way, including but not limited to stumbling upon a human trafficking ring and a worldwide invasion. When the dust settles, Flash finds himself wanting more from the man under the cowl, and the harder Batman pulls away, the harder Flash is drawn to the man and his elusiveness. The Fastest Man Alive needs to rely on his patience if he wants to get anywhere in his quest. This story takes place throughout the entirety of DCAU's Justice League as well as the first two seasons of Justice League Unlimited, with the main locations being the Watchtower and Wayne Manor. The human trafficking and threat of dub/non-con are contained to two scenes in which a main character falls into trouble, but nothing too graphic occurs. Still, the subject matter isn't everyone's cup of tea. The R rating is just to be extra safe.

30 Title: Anachronistic Crises Crossover Word Count: 8k Genre: Gen, Crossover, Fluff Fandom/Universe: Red Robin, Batman- All Media Types, DC Comics Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd (Post Crisis),Tim Drake, Jason "Jay" Todd (Pre-Crisis)/Rena(Pre- crisis), Jason "Jay" Todd (Pre-Crisis), Rena(Pre- crisis) Warnings: Period Typical homophobia, possible inclusions of bad mental health care later Rating: T (just to be safe) Summary: Coming off of the Search for Ray Palmer, Jason Todd reconciled with his family. Just in time for Batman's apparent death. After an international adventure that led them to finding the batman, said batman in his Hyper-Adapter crazed state seemingly vaporized them with Omega Energy. Jason and Tim wake up to find themselves stranded in Gotham, New Jersey where its somehow the April of 1986. Tim takes the lead and stalks a young person also named Jason Todd- who is very unlike the one he knows. The Alfred Pennyworth with him seems similar enough though. In there efforts to observe this world's Bat-family Tim ends up having to go to high school again- where the shear amount of brightly colored clothes that are either skin tight or falling off makes him want to claw his eyes out. Jason is comparatively having a much better time as a librarian in the Gotham Public Library to fund their tiny studio apartment with money that doesn't look fake for the time period.
Night work continues as well, with Red Hood and the vigilante named by the media as "Shrike". Their quick and calculated moves on the Gotham drug trade lead them to colliding first with this world's Robin. Jason alone is confronted by the Batman, and nearly has a panic attack though Tim will never be privy to that information.
Gotham is a not as insane back drop of retro-not-so-chic. Jason enjoys the small pleasures of being legally alive and having a job. Tim doesn't cope well without all his compact gadgetry and hates school- but likes the closeted lesbian couple he meets. A budding bat-detective trying to figure out who these new and weird people are, and who these new sci-fi like vigilantes are. Will the people back home in Tim and Jason's Gotham ever succeed in getting them home?
The entire fic takes place in either version of Gotham, with the exception of the Watchtower being there for like 5 minutes. Post-Crisis Gotham features locations like Oracle's clock-tower Jason is wearing his Under the Red Hood costume, Tim cosplays as knock off Midnighter (red robin), Bruce has blue accents and trunks, and Robin-Jay makes Jason re-live cold nights in hot-pants and pixie boots.

32 Title: The Past Still Ties You Down Word Count: 7k Genre: Angst, Romance Fandom/Universe: The Flash (TV) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart Warnings: implied/referenced violence and abuse, alcohol abuse Rating: NC-17 Summary: On another earth, Barry falls in love with the most hated man in Central City - mob boss Leonard Snart. Only, Central doesn’t know Len like he does. They didn’t grow up with him like Barry did, sleeping in the bed above him, patching up his wounds and crawling under the covers with him when his bullies had been especially cruel. Even as the years go by - where Len is no longer a teenage boy forced into a life he didn't choose and Barry is no longer the child still grieving his mother while hating the father who killed her - they can't seem to let go of each other. Set in multiple locations in Central City, including a foster home, hospital, and the West house. The violence and abuse are not actually shown, but the aftermath is (ie. patching up wounds, some blood, some discussion of specific actions after the fact).

33 Title: Unfortunate Souls Word Count: around 8-9k total, 4958 written Genre: Dark Fairy Tale Fandom/Universe: Batman, Batfamily Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd, Jason Todd/Slade Wilson, Dick Grayson/Slade Wilson, Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Slade Wilson Warnings: dub con (may have a bad ending that pushes it into non con) Rating: Explicit, NC-17 Summary: Based off of The Little Mermaid (Disney film mixed with aspects of the original fairy tale) as well as fandom-type Mer AU’s. With red-headed Jason taking the part of Ariel, Dick as Prince Eric, and Slade as Ursula. Jason, adopted prince of King Bruce’s underwater kingdom, is fascinated by all things human. One night, while stargazing on the surface, he decides to follow a ship out of curiosity. On the ship is a handsome human prince who steals his heart. After an accident, Jason risks his life to save the human, which puts him at odds with Bruce. After inadvertently challenging Bruce during an argument about his ‘hobby’, Jason flees the realm and accepts the offer of octo-mer Deathstroke, a one-time rival of Bruce’s, to turn him human. But Slade’s intentions are murky and hidden. He wants Bruce’s throne, his son, and if he gets a human pet out of the deal, that’s just one more trophy to show that he is the stronger Mer. The story is set in the underwater mer kingdom ruled by Bruce; Slade’s underwater lair; and the idyllic land kingdom of Bludhaven, ruled by Price Richard. I haven’t decided whether I want a happy ending, like the film, where Jason and Dick ride off into the sunset or a bad ending where Slade gets everything he wants. If happy, there will be some dub con between Jason and Slade when they make the agreement and later when Slade is using magic to enthrall Dick. If I go with the bad ending, there will likely be some non con.

Can Jason be trusted to keep Gotham safe? The story is set in Gotham, featuring set pieces like Crime Alley, warehouses, tall buildings, the Bat cave, and more. It features many Batfam characters as well as several OCs all taking part in self defense instruction, with a few action scenes thrown in. (Slightly rambling) Thoughts on Dressed to Kill (1980)
Tumblr media
Oh man, this might turn out to be a rant, so be warned. Also, there will be spoilers after the cut, but to be honest, if you’ve seen Psycho, you know what the spoilers are going to be pretty much, so what’s the point?
I remember in Tim Brayton’s review of the reviled Gus Van Sant Psycho remake, he said the one good thing the movie does is remind people why the original movie is such a great film. Dressed to Kill, Brian De Palma’s kind-of homage to Psycho, does much the same thing for me.
Because man, I did not like this. I’m sure some will protest “you just don’t get it, you don’t get the meta qualities about Laura Mulvey and Hitchockian sadism etc.”
No, guys. I get it. In a distanced way, I can even appreciate those ideas. But when these things are grafted to a sloppy and shockingly not-that-visceral thriller story, why should I care unless I’m writing a dissertation?
Tumblr media
Just from preliminary reading in college film classes, I expected my worst possible reaction to Dressed to Kill to be meh or mild annoyance. Brian De Palma is known for his “Hitchcock movies,” the only one of which I had seen prior being Obsession, a riff on Vertigo that skates close to plagiarism while still having its own feel and unique twists. Not a perfect movie, but an enjoyable thriller with interesting set-pieces and cinematic storytelling.
DTK has some of this: the museum scene is rightfully celebrated, for one, very much in the spirit of silent film. Angie Dickinson’s neglected housewife is very sympathetic, about the only character the film bothers providing any emotional center or soul. The music is very Bernard Hermann, often providing ironic counterpoint to particular scenes.
Unfortunately, DTK comes off as an experiment in cold mechanics in style and cinematography. As far as that goes, it’s interesting, serving as a kind of meta-commentary on the voyeurism inherent to cinema as an art.
I don’t mind style over substance movies, and the style here is a blend of Hitchcock, Bunuel, and giallo slasher, so I can’t quite place why I am so frustrated by this movie and not at least okay with it. Maybe it’s a feeling that it didn’t have to be so hollow or sloppy. I wasn’t really scared by the horror stuff nor did I often find the tongue-in-cheek stuff that intriguing or funny.
Tumblr media
There are some things to like: the dreamlike quality of particular scenes prefigures what Stanley Kubrick would do in his own erotic thriller Eyes Wide Shut. I actually admire the opening scene, an erotic shower scene revealed to be a fantasy the Dickinson character is having in the middle of bad sex with her apathetic husband. Those three minutes alone say a lot about “the gaze” and voyeurism and objectification than most anything else in the movie.
But for every good sequence, there lies a corresponding bad one-- like the shower scene which bookends the movie. Only this time, De Palma is ripping himself off, redoing the final nightmare in Carrie, only here it does not work. In Carrie, the “gotcha!” works because it illustrates that the bullies who so tormented Carrie were still vulnerable kids themselves and they will be traumatized by what happened at the prom.
In DTK? It’s just a gimmicky scare, an attempt to end the film on a bang. But it doesn’t. It’s just an empty bit of nothing, which is a shame, since the dream itself might be the creepiest and most effective suspense piece in the whole film.
Tumblr media
Other things I don’t like? There’s Nancy Allen’s chipper call girl, who takes over the way Vera Miles does in Psycho, only while Miles’ worst flaw is that her character is dull, Allen is actively annoying with unconvincing line readings that feel like a kid playing dress-up. Michael Caine is comatose. Keith Gordon is actually good as Dickinson’s teen prodigy son, but he’s underused to a criminal degree.
Oh, and you know that one scene everyone hates in Psycho? The psychiatrist exposition dump at the end? This movie has its own variant on that too. Because... I don’t know.
The film also gets a lot of flak for being sexist since the central murder victim is essentially punished and humiliated for wanting a satisfying sex life, but I’m shocked no one talks about its treatment of its transgender characters or that one rather racist scene on a subway (at first, I thought that whole bit was a hallucination from the Allen character, revealing her paranoia, but no, it’s revealed as actual).
Tumblr media
So yeah... I’m just so disappointed. I have similar feelings about Hitchcock’s own attempt at a sleazy shocker, Frenzy. I will admit I like this more than Frenzy, if only because it’s marginally more entertaining to watch, but not by much.
I’ll just close this post with a comment on Tim Brayton’s review of the film. User WBTN sums up the way I feel about this one pretty well:
More than any of De Palma's films, Dressed to Kill frustrates me, even if I've settled towards "I enjoy it a little, maybe even a lot". The sociology is a waste (not just the "trans people are murderous freaks with multiple personalities" angle, but a concentrated dash of "eeh! black people are scary!" in the subway scene), and it's easiest to accept that as the film's ultimate meaning, if you're looking for it. In a more generous mood, I don't think the film has any meaning; it's just bait. Glossy, self-reflexive Bait for everyone on De Palma's wavelength or against it and all in-between (hence the doubling down on everyone's least-favorite part of Psycho; hence the unsatisfying climax; hence the last-shot steal from Carrie, et cetera).

1.5k Followers Milestone Drabbles 3/10
I need to cringe! I'd like to request a drabble where Bart decides to only speak in slang and dead memes for a week. He'd probably drive the team insane -Anonymous
Set in between season’s 2 and 3 but probably closer to the end of season 2! Also thank you guys once again for sending in your meme and slang suggestions I’ve never cringed harder when writing a drabble! -Terra

Also the easiest way for me to write this was to do a small collection of “mini scenes” in which Bart would use his memes instead of spending hours I didn’t have this week with all my assignments to make it one long story so I’m sorry if this isn’t what you wanted but this was the way I could push it out faster! Enjoy!
Monday:
           When Tim walked into the Watchtower that morning the last thing he expected was to see Bart, dressed in his Kid Flash uniform lying across a gap between two of the branches in the Watchtowers courtyard. He paused mid-step as he looked at the speedster’s placement, a faint flicker of familiarity pricking at the back of his mind at the rigid posture to Bart’s body. Then it finally dawned on him.
           “Bart… are you… planking?”
           “Fo’ shizzle Tim Drizzle.” Scratch that maybe that was the last thing he expected today.
           “Excuse me?”
           “You’re really harshing my mellow with all those questions, not very radical behavior of you man.”
           He’s sure his eyes were as wide as saucers by now as his mind scrambled to make sense of what he was hearing. He even pinched his arms a few times to make sure he was actually experiencing this right now and it wasn’t just some weird concussion dream.
           “Flash said he spent the whole weekend reading up on slang and memes, he hasn’t stopped speaking and acting like this ever since.” Jaime mumbled, his head resting on his palm from where he sat under a different tree. “I already tried explaining dead memes and dead slang to him, but I don’t think he’s quite grasped it yet.”
           Tim already knew this was going to be a long week.
Tuesday:
           Tim crouched among the underbrush of the jungle, using the thick foliage and natural shadows to conceal himself. The rain was light, but enough to make their stealth mission somewhat miserable with the wet seeping through the seems of their costumes and mud cling to their boots. They had been trudging through this for hours now, and now the end was in sight. There just ahead of them was the plant that had been pushing out a Reach-like drug under a new name. Kaldur had placed Tim in charge, giving him Bart, Jaime, and Vrigil to take it down.
           “Okay.” He whispered, looking over to his gathered team. “We need to do this carefully. Jaime, you and your scarab need to crunch the numbers, what are we looking at in terms of numbers and success percentage if we proceed with plan A?”
           Jaime paused, looking out over the small compound while the scarab did what it needed to do with its sensors. “Scarab says we’re looking at a thirty-two-point three repeating percent chance of success if we just barge through the front door in a full assault.”
           “Okay let’s not do that then. Static you’ll be on point.” Tim started dishing out orders for their plan B strategy when Bart stood up, pulling his red visor down in front of his eyes.
           “This is taking too long, time’s up let’s do this! LEEEEEEROOOYYYYY JENKINSSSSSSS.” Bart had sped off into the plant before any of them could stop him. The sounds of gunfire and shouting erupted from inside.
           “Oh my god we need to go in after him! Move let’s go!” Tim shouted vaulting over his hiding spot and rushing in through the front doors. Jaime and Virgil were thankfully right behind him. Inside they were met with complete chaos, enemies were scattered everywhere spraying gunfire in every which direction they though Bart was. Tim could only grumble as he threw himself into the fight, dodging what he could and taking the guards out one by one.
           Just when they thought they were in the clear, the last of the guards tied up and down for the count, Sportsmaster appeared on the catwalks above them. “I thought I heard the sound of you brats in here. Where’s the rest of your little team? Don’t tell me you’re all that came to shut this place down?” He laughed and jumped over the rails, landing on the concrete in front of them. Tim threw down some smoke pellets and circled around. Jaime and Virgil did their best to keep hitting him from range while Tim did his best to get up close and get a few hits in at crucial points. So far, it wasn’t working out well for them. He didn’t know where Bart was, but they were losing the fight badly, and they really needed his speed.
           With a few lucky hits, Virgil and Jaime were down and out. The small distraction from glancing at his teammates let Sportsmaster land a hit to him that sent him flying back and gasping for the air that had been knocked out of his lungs. From the corner of his eye he caught sight of yellow and red at the crate crane control panel, and one of the cranes lifting up.
           The crate came back around and smacked into Sportsmaster before he could advance on Tim, slapping him into the adjacent wall hard enough to knock him out. Over his shoulder he could hear Bart in the near distance.
           “HE NEEDS SOME MILK.”
           He would deny ever laughing as hard as he did later when he was giving his report on what happened.
Wednesday:
           Tim was speeding after Brick on his cycle, Cassie and Jaime right behind him. It wasn’t often the team ended up in high-speed chases but if Tim were being honest, he liked the change from the usual stealth missions where they had to watch each and every step. Bart had sped off ahead to try and cut off Brick and his thugs’ convoy. They had stolen important weapons tech, and they couldn’t afford to let him escape.
           “KF we’re losing ground where are you!?” Tim shouted into his comm. His motorcycle was fast but not fast enough apparently, especially with the way Brick and his gang were currently swerving through traffic. As much as he liked the change of pace, he did hate it when it was through the middle of a densely populated city.
           “I’m practically right there, just hang on tight for a moment everything will be totally tubular just wait!”
           “Ay mi dios.” Jaime mumbled from above. “You’d think with as fast as he goes, he would have at least caught up to current slang by now.”
           “Tell me about it.” Cassie replied, “I never thought I’d miss him saying ‘crash’ and ‘mode’ as much as I do right now.”
           “Let’s focus guys, please?” Tim called. “Blue can you get a shot at any of their tires yet?”
           Before Jaime could respond, they saw a familiar yellow and red blur cut into the street just ahead of Brick.
           “Damn Daniel, back at it again with the white vans!”
           Clever use, Tim just gave snort as Brick and the rest of his gang, very much driving white vans, had no choice but to suddenly swerve and crash into each other in order to avoid hitting Bart.
Thursday:
           Tim knew Bart was up to something as soon as he saw the shit-eating grin on the young hero’s face. The shaving cream in his hand was also a pretty good clue. With a small glance in the direction Bart was looking he confirmed exactly what was about to happen.
           “Bart if you value your life you will definitely abort exactly what you have planned.” His grin only grew wider.
           “Bart I promise you, as someone who lives with the guy. Don’t.”
           “SMACK CAM” Bart screeched as he used his speed to race forward, outstretching his hand at the last moment and slapping Batman right across the right cheek with the hand that was full of shaving cream.
           “Oh my god that poor dead bastard.” Tim whispered.
           It was dead silent in the Watchtower as everyone held their breath for the Dark Knight’s reaction. For his part he stayed silent as he wiped the shaving cream off his face, completely stoic before he turned to Barry.
           “Say goodbye to your grandson until he’s born Allen.”
           A muffled “YOLO” was the only thing Tim could hear as Bart sped away with Batman hot on his heels.
Friday:
           By now it was safe to say the entire team was sick of Bart’s new slang and meme knowledge. Sure every now and again Bart would have a clever use that would earn a small laugh or two, but for the most part they largely missed their mark prompting a lot of groans and sighs.
           Jaime had even tried bribing Bart with thirty bags of Chicken Wizee’s in order to get him to stop. It hadn’t worked so far. Nothing had, they were stuck in dead meme and dead slang hell until whatever this was had run its course with him.
           That’s why they all cringed as Bart walked up to the group. “What’s up my homeboys and homegirls?”
           “Bart we are literally begging you to stop.” Tim said.
           “No can do, haters gonna hate!”
           “Bart I will literally give you free Chicken Wizee’s for life if you stop.”
           “Lit, but as swag as that sounds, I’ll have to pass. Catch you guys on the flip side!” He called as he walked out of the room.
Saturday:
           “Hey Robin!” Tim just cringed and tried to ignore him, hoping that Bart would leave if he didn’t say anything. From the sympathetic look Cassie gave him, that wasn’t going to be the case. “Robin! Yo Rob! Robster! Robmiester!”
           He just sighed, “Yes Bart?”
           “Something came for you in the mail!”
           In a momentary lapse of judgement, Tim made a fatal error in his next choice of words. “Oh? What came?”
           “DEEZ NUTS.” Bart’s cackles could be heard all over the Watchtower. Tim was going to murder him.
Sunday:
           Once again Tim found himself in the middle of a fight with Cassie, Jaime, Virgil and Bart. This time however, the team had been called to assist the League with another bust this time being a large-scale reproduction of the Reach drink under a new name. Zatanna had been stationed with Tim’s squad for their particular section. Their job was to fight their way and disable of the brewery rooms.
           “Hey Zatanna!”
           “No Bart.”
           “I didn’t even say anything yet!”
           “I know what you want me to do and my answer is still no.”
           He stopped right in front of her, fixing her with his best puppy dog look. “Pleaseeee?”
           She just sighed and turned towards the rest of the team. “Everyone get up off the ground now!” Confused they did as they were told except for Bart who looked like a kid in a candy store being told he could get whatever he wanted. “eht roolf si aval!”
           Oh, that’s what he had wanted. The floor morphed from simple concrete to burning lava right before the team’s very eyes, taking out the robotic guards they had been pinned down by in mere moments. As soon as Zatanna called off the spell, Tim was quick to get his birdarangs ready before the next wave could barge in.
           “Hey Bart.” Tim handed the speedster the birdarangs primed for detonation upon impact. “These bitches empty.”
           Bart looked at him with big hopeful eyes as if he didn’t quite believe what he was hearing. With a nod from Tim, he gently took them from his hand, turning towards the vats. “YEET.” Bart put his whole body into the throw, each of the birdarangs hitting their target and detonating the vats in an impressive show.
           “You’re encouraging him now?” Cassie called as they watched the compound explode in the distance.
           “Hey at least this one was current.”

Lavi anon: whoa thanks so much for the epic long reply. I love everything about it! Some stuff definitely caused me to think new things (so much I won't remember everything). 1st thing, The way I've always interpreted Roads Nightmare was that she accessed Lavi's dreams and let Lavi become his worst enemy letting all his fears fight back. Road meanwhile played a passive role by hiding in Allen. Afterall she didn't control bookmanJr. That was Lavi warring against his own mind. BookmanJr stuck-
2 around even after Lavi had stabbed Road. BookmanJr in my opinion was the one controlling the dream (thanks to Road, in return she controlled the body) trying to punish the part of him going astray. But BookmanJr (like you said) accepted Lavi and him were the same person when BJr heard Allen’s calls and tried to sacrifice himself to save his friend. But that’s my interpretation of Lavi’s worst fears and how even BJr couldn’t distort how Lavi sees Allen (you know it never occured to me how -
3 messed up it must have been for Lavi to stab dream Allen. Road could have been bias, but you’re right in that she could have seen how unchanged Allen was compared to the other’s and assumed Lavi would have treated dream Allen differently).
(cutting it one mins again) first thank you for the nice word
Second, actually you’re right. I gave Road maybe a little too much credit on how much she manipulated the situation but considering the final manologue of how “Lavi” convinces “Bookman JR” you’re completely right: it was indeed more his internal self talking.
I do think Road nudged a few things around. But it does lessen how much of her impact it was. And it says a lot about Lavi that this is how his fears manifests itself. How for everyone else in teh order it’s how much they’d judge him for him thinking of them like that, and all and so forth, but for Allen, what breaks him, is just how much of his emotional attachement to Allen was something his “duty self” had to reject and the fear of that one loss broke Lavi.
But therefore if it’s really just Lavi’s fears coming out, Road probably only went into Allen because after seeing Lavi’s fears he knew she would be safer there. Like… if Road had all controle over the dreams and how she nudged it, she wouldn’t have just have let her Bias for Allen put her in a vulnerable situation. If we go with your interpretation (which the more i think about it, the more i think it’s accurate) it means Road saw the way Lavi wouldn’t even get to hurt Allen in those fears.  And you have also a point: considering how the nightmare evolved, i think perhaps the fears showed themselves by layers. And considering in the first layers, the first nightmares, Allen didn’t appear, Road probably put one and one together knowing that Allen would dig deeper into Lavi’s fears and consciousness. And now i’m sad.
It also says a lot about how much Lavi’s duty is challenged by Allen that it became the One “Ink” worth taking out. Worth killing by his duty self. Like in those fears it also acknowledge how this affection for Allen is the biggest risk against his duty. Guuuh it’s making me even sadder but that makes sense considering how it’s his grief about Allen that got called out by Bookman. (I think it’s a question of bad timing, but Bookman beat Lavi up with how he doesn’t need a heart over Allen’s loss, when Lenalee is crying for him - when Lenalee almost dies, there is no real time to lecture Lavi over his duty. Sure Lavi was still thinking about it,the whole thing was started in his mind, but Bookman didn’t act on it again due to the others stuff that kept happening. So even if this affection extended to Lenalee it was Allen who was the catalyst and therefore “the risk” in his nightmare. Funny enough considering Lenalee’s involvement in his nightmare were that her helplessness and how Lavi wanted to help her could be his downfall (but it wasn’t)- that echo how he was seeing the Lenalee’s situation on the boat. while Allen’s situation is fully on loss and it breaks him. Man. That hurts once put into that perspective.
Oh man Lavi’s right. No matter how much darkness ensnares Allen he’s such a creature of the light. Even kids see it better then adults. Timothy adores Allen. That girl Allen rescued in the Alma Arc thought his star was lucky. Another girl mistook Allen for-4 angel. It gets deeper when you realize a part of Lavi stopped emotionally/mentally aging when he became bookman jr and is the one who identifies Allen as dazzling Light. Even Kanda is getting in on being mesmerized by Allen’s white light image going by his expression from the last chap (Kanda’s 9 so…). I feel like Lavi’s observation was both a foreshadowing and resigned fear of losing Allen. Allen’s probably the best thing he’s ever recorded but he knows the natural state of the universe-5 is darkness with light only coming from sources. Humanity’s biggest light right now for Lavi is Allen. But even stars go out and Lavi probably wonders how long will Allen’s light shine for others until Allen himself goes out. I agree. Lavi is defintely overprotective at times. He freaked over Lenalee several times and during the Ark ark Allen was his main concern. Always staying close and getting jumpy when Noah attacked him. I’ll stop for now but I do love how Allen affected Lavi. X)
Nonny i love u and yes this is perfect.
And tbh you have a point with especially resonating with children (although low blow for Kanda. Completely true and deserved and needed low blow but still). but it’s true that when “Lavi” gets to hear Allen’s voice and reason for a last time with his Bookman self against Road, his Bookman self turns back to a child. I think it meant a lot of having to face the values that had him start to be a Bookman to begin with. it’s apparently a decision Lavi took when he was 6 after all, before humanity made him numb to the “elder self” level. I think getting back to his Child self was a way to face back what were his original intentions by becoming a Bookman, trying to reconnect with that after years of losing yourself to cynism. But indeed it does create also an ongoing thing with younger people being carried away by Allen’s light in general and feeling hope in it.
But yes agreed, Lavi’s mention was really both foreshadowing and resigned fear of losing Allen. I think Lavi knows at this point, from almost losing Allen that it is something that will happen.
tbh even if we know Allen was “lost to his darkness” with Nea coming out, for Lavi, litterally, Allen “died” trying to save Suman after all.
OKAY SO WAIT so as i was answering that i rewent to from chapter 55 to Allen’s death to notice what I wanted to say so:
Timcanpy leaves VERY LATe the Tyki VS Allen showdown, and we know he recorded everything, so this is how much he saw. But here’s what happened:
Tyki killed Suman, making him explode from the butterflies. Allen was seriously injuried from the fight, right, and had to process all of that. Tyki eventually realizing who it was, started to show off his power: said Tease was only a weapon and he showed Allen how he could kill him, by tearing his heart out (so the whole scene of Tyki getting through Allen, litterally, and threatening to take his warm heart out, was reccorded by Timcanpy). THEN, Tyki destroys Allen’s innocence, STILL IN FRONT OF TIMCANPY (so that was reccorded). He also checks his hitman card to make sure and confirms that Allen is on his “to kill” list. But most importantly:The reason Tim left was that, while Tyki destroyed Allen’s innocence first, then headed to Suman’s, specifically talking about how he was looking to destroy the Heart. Allen knew at that point that he was on Tyki’s hit list. At this point, his innocence had already been destroyed, he saw Tyki’s destructive powers, and was too weak to try to fight back anyway.And what does Allen do? He asks Timcanpy to take Suman’s innocence and bring it back to the boat. Allen’s last action was to protect the innocence one last time. That’s what was recorded.
And also something I’ve never noticed until i looked for it but you know who is the first character we focus back on when Tyki is “killing” Allen? When Timcanpy leaves? Who is the first character from the boat we see again?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is what serves as a transition from Timcanpy leaving Allen’s side to warn people on the boat, right before Allen gets killed. It’s Lavi who starts this “transition”.
Tumblr media
also this is right before they find Tim and I might need to scream at this reaction. Before being sure he died, he clentches his teeth remembering him and his kindness toward Suman before trying to believe that they will find them. He actually went througha  bit of denial there  g o d. I completely forgot. (also not helping the “memory effect” looks like it is fading away, a bit like light)
the point I wanted to make when i checked those out tho is that: Allen died “for the light” in a way. He died trying to protect, to save, and he spent his last minutes protecting the Innocence. In a way I can see why Lavi fears the Light swallowing allen more than the darkness: because to him, he saw Allen’s kindness taking him away. That Light that everyone sees in Allen, it had taken him away.
Allen is a star, a light that is shining through and you’re entierely right: even those lights are doomed to fade away. And Lavi is aware of that, if only because it happened once. But he cannot hold hope for Allen even if he cares for this life. But ye at this point Allen is probably the best thing Lavi saw in his life and it hurts to think about how he might lose it at any moment like he already did.
And you’re right he does get overprotective, especially toward Lenalee and Allen. It still kills me that during the whole ark’s arc, while he remains mostly quiet, he spends most of his time stuck to Allen. It’s like,, dude,,, com’on,, you’re so scared to lose him again and you don’t even realize. He even felt for Allen when the Jasdebi were being vicious with him.
Man Lavi you care so much u fool.
Everything about Lavi breaks my heart.
Take care!

The Shape of Water & Female Sexual Desire.
Tumblr media
This year’s Oscar Winner The Shape of Water was, let’s say different, firstly in that science fiction monster flicks are a rarity at the Academy Awards and, if they are they are only nominated for special effects awards. However, The Shape of Water blasted on to the awards scene winning Best Director at the BAFTAS, and now winning the sought after Best Picture Oscar. But what makes this film so special? It has certainly caused quite the controversy online, with people getting rather hooked (excuse the pun) on the concept of fish/human intercourse.
Now although this is quite iconic, this is not what I found unique about the film. For me what I found groundbreaking for a mainstream film is the fact that in the first five minutes of the film, we see the main female protagonist masturbating in the bath, which, as the film goes on appears to be part of her morning routine. In popular culture, we see references to male masturbation everywhere, mainly in teenage comedies. However, women are overlooked. Because heaven forbid that women have sexual desire! Open sexuality has long been the realm of men. But shock, horror, guess what. Women kind of like sex. But movies don’t seem to get this. Female characters in film are rarely the active party in seeking out sex, men are a lot of the time the active pursuers. Yet in The Shape of Water, the woman has a clear and active sexual desire, she actively pursues the fish man, she is the initiator in all the romantic elements of the film.
I recently watched the 1984 film Splash starring Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah, and I couldn’t help but see parallels with The Shape of Water. The roles are kind of flipped in Splash, the woman is the sea creature, the man is the human. However, it is the woman, the mermaid who is quite active in her pursuit of Tom Hanks’ character, Allen. Yet in this film, it isn’t seen as a weird perversion, because on land, Madison (Daryl Hannah) looks like a human. Her desire in the film is presented as cute and naive. She is not human therefore doesn’t know the conventions of courtship that we have set in place, making her seem even more otherworldly. I mean, when we see Madison when she first arrives in New York, on land, she is completely naked leaving the humans who discover her are completely shocked, some disgusted by her open sexuality and others (the men) are excited by it, taking pictures and crowding around her like she is a magical rare being (and that’s without her tail)!
Tumblr media
In Making a Splash, Philip Hayward describes the mermaid as a sexual being relying on certain aspects to achieve this, “predominantly, their representation as having the upper body of a young, attractive female; representation as actively in pursuit of human male attention; their seductive vocal skills; and their most complicated sexual aspect; the allure and symbolism of their tails” (98). He also highlights the importance of the modern mermaid being able to switch between forms in order to have sexual intercourse with a human. Therefore, making the sexual desire in these films more heteronormative and not as shocking or perhaps in some eyes perverse.
Yet in The Shape of Water Eliza is human, her desire is equally as different in her setting, one because of the time-period (the 1960’s) and two because of the subject of her desire. He is not human. He does stand on two legs, has two arms and one head but other than that he is totally alien looking. Even though these films pretty much tell the same tale, of human falls in love with a sea creature, one is seen to be more perverse than the other. Is it because one creature looks more human than the other or, is it the fact that it is a human female who actively sexually pursues the creature? In The Shape of Water, I feel like it is perhaps both. Indeed, when discussing the male mermaid Phillip Hayward suggests that “mermen are symbolically unmanly due to lack of a penis” (151). Unlike their female counterparts, the representation of mermen as sexual beings is nonexistent, unless they turn into humans. Hayward states that mermen in films never have sex with women, in fact, he states, they are often feminized, for example, in the advert, Derek Zoolander features in in Zoolander.
The Shape of Water, in a way very explicitly solves the problem and mystery surrounding the sexual nature of fish creatures. Although the fish man in the film is not a merman. There is a distinct question that went through everyone’s mind when it appears that Eliza has sex with him. This is very quickly answered in a highly entertaining scene with her friend Zelda, who asks the question that everyone is dying to know. The solution is simple, the fish man’s sexual organ reveals itself, leaving Zelda shocked, stating lightheartedly, “Never trust a man”. This is perhaps what would happen in the case of mermen. But why are films so against showing this?  Because it is out of the realms of the heteronormative, breaking into the taboo subject of bestiality?
Tumblr media
What then, does this say about Eliza’s desire? Is it perverse? If we were going to be black and white about it, then perhaps. However, it is much more nuanced than that. There was never a point in the film where I thought it was particularly strange. Yes, I have never seen anything like it before, but it was still not weird or perverse to me in the slightest. I found the whole thing rather sweet.
The narrative presents a setting in which traditionally, the monster would be the villain. He is totally otherworldly and highly dangerous. In the film The Creature from the Black Lagoon, which Guillermo Del Toro was hugely influenced by, the creature is dangerous and totally monstrous attacking anyone who goes near him. Yet there is a hint that it does feel an affinity for the woman of the group. In this case, he is the one who captures her, there is no element of courtship or tenderness, he aggressively takes her from the human, male group of explorers. In fact, in an interview with Variety, Del Toro when watching the part where the woman is swimming and we see the creature reach out to her “he thought it was so romantic and exciting that he assumed the two would end up together. He was shocked when they didn’t. “I decided I would someday have to correct that,” he says”.
Tumblr media
Del Toro has stated that The Shape of Water is a sort of ‘what if’ narrative. What if the explorer from The Creature from the Black Lagoon had captured and brought the creature back to the US? In this case, the roles of villains are switched. The small amount of sympathy we may feel for the fish man in Black Lagoon is intensified. The villain is now the human male. Richard Strickland feels a complete and utter hatred for the fish man. We see him torture him with a cattle prod with apparent satisfaction, this is only intensified when the fish man bites his fingers off.
So, what is so different about the two monsters. One is traditionally monstrous, non-human and very dangerous. The other is a seemingly normal looking man, but what makes him more villainous? He commits acts in the narrative that made me more uncomfortable than anything that transpired between Eliza and the fish man. One scene, in particular, was when he is having sex with his wife after he had his fingers bitten off and then stitched back on. As he is stroking his wife’s face his fingers begin bleeding, as his wife tries to tell him, he then tells her to shut up and covers her mouth with his bleeding fingers, all the while still (quite forcefully) having sex with her. Funnily enough, the scene that made me most uncomfortable was a heteronormative one. The heteronormative sexual act has here been made uncomfortable and rather disgusting to watch. Which plays of the romantic and tender encounter that Eliza has with the fish man. We, as viewers are made to be disgusted by the heterosexual male’s sexual desire, it is terrifying and abhorrent. Made even more so later in the film where he sexually threatens Eliza.
In the final scenes of the film Strickland’s monstrosity reaches its peak, when he rips his fingers off in front of Zelda in a show of terrifying masochism, which “does not allow for sympathetic identification” as it is a “profoundly disturbing occurrence, one which emanates from both the unexpectedness of the monster hurting himself when his apparent role is to harm others” (Briefel 18). In this final gruesome act, Strickland has stripped any identification that we, as humans may have ever felt with him, and because of the tenderness and humanity expressed by the monster we choose to side with him instead. The fish man only ever hurt others either out of self-defense, or in the case of the cat, out of hunger, however this is quickly rectified as he is able to learn that some creatures are not for eating. We see him understand morals very quickly, while with Strickland we see his morals are non-existent.
It is not just female sexual desire that is explored in this film, it presents the notion that heterosexual male sexual desire in some cases is problematic and that the feminine, which has mostly been ignored in society and in film, is less harmful than the (sometimes) aggressive male sexual desire. The man in this film believes he has a power over women, which is expressed numerous times in an oddly sexual manner. The woman, however, has a sexual desire apparent from the start that does not harm anyone, the film normalized women’s sexual urges and does so in a non-conventional manner.

~~~
(Y/N)’s POV
“013; Black Canary. B27; Siren” The computerised voice said as Dinah and myself walked into Mount Justice,
“Black Canary, here to train?” Aqua-lad asked as he approached us,
“I’m afraid not. I’m here to introduce Siren to the team” Dinah said mentioning me,
“New member?!” Impulse asked as he appeared next to Aqua-lad, soon enough the whole team was stood in front of me,
“This is so crash! You’re her!” Impulse said as he ‘fan-boy’ over me, I raised an eyebrow glancing at Dinah,
“Why’s he so excited that I’m here?” I whispered, she shrugged
“Everyone this is Siren, my sister and your new teammate” She introduced,
“Hi! I’m Bart Allen, grandson of the Flash and your son’s best friend!” Impulse introduced as he appeared in front of me, I raised an eyebrow
“My son?” I repeated,
“Yeah! I’m from the future and you and-” He was cut off as Blue-beetle covered his mouth,
“Ignore him. He tends to babble. I’m Jaime” He introduced,
“Right” I said slowly,
“Enjoy your time kid. I’m needed at the watchtower” Dinah said as she went to leave,
“I’m not a kid!” I yelled after her, she chuckled and disappear through the zeta-tube,
“Welcome to the team; I’m Nightwing” Nightwing welcomed, I gave a small smile
“Hi. You can either call me (Y/N) or Siren” I introduced, the whole team introduced themselves to me before separating, except Robin, “Something on your mind boy-wonder?” I asked as I stood in front of him,
“N-no” He stuttered, I raised an eyebrow as he cleared his throat “No” He repeated before disappeared, I smirked to myself as I headed towards the training room.
***
“Wonder-girl, Siren. You’re up” Dinah ordered as she moved out of the arena, Cassandra and myself stepped in and prepared ourselves, she swung the first punch which I blocked then she went to swing her legs under me which I saw coming and flipped backwards avoiding her, she then began swing left and right attempting to hit me, which I responded with either avoiding it completely or blocking it, what I didn’t see coming was her bringing up her knee colliding with my stomach making me buckle over allowing her to get me in a headlock on my knees,
“You think I haven’t seen the way you’ve been eyeing Robin up? Stay back, he’s mine” She whispered/growled, I glanced at Robin and smirked before breaking out of her headlock, sliding between her legs knocking her down on her knees then kicked her in the back sending her on her chest,
“Fail; Wonder-girl” The computer stated,
“Guys we’ve got a situation” Nightwing said as he came in and pulled up the screens revealing Black Manta doing something on one screen as Deathstroke was doing something on another,
“Black Manta’s more important, send a smaller team to deal with Deathstroke” I say making everyone look at me,
“You’ve been on the team for a week and you think you can give orders? You’re the newbie” Cassandra spat as she stepped up in front of me, I rolled my eyes,
“Enough. Siren’s right” Nightwing stated coming between the two of us, “Robin, Blue Beetle, Impulse and Siren you’ll deal with Deathstroke. The rest of us will go deal with Black Manta” He ordered, we all nodded and went separate ways.
***
We arrived at the location where Deathstroke was,
“Anyone have a plan?” I asked through the com as we all had a different position around the scene,
“Yeah. Run in and attack” Bart said, I rolled my eyes
“Anyone have a better one?” I asked making Jaime snort,
“They may actually be our best option. Slade is unpredictable” Robin commented,
“Leave Slade to me” I demanded,
“On three. One. Two. Th-Goddammit Bart” Robin growled as Bart had already ran into battle, I sighed jumping down from the rafters landing in front of Slade,
“Ah, I was wondering when you’d get roped into their little league” He chuckled as he withdrew his sword,
“I didn’t get roped in. I wanted to join” I growl as I prepared myself,
“Then you’re more stupid than I thought” He commented before attacking me, I rolled out of the way and kicked him in the knee and he backhanded me on to the floor, I groaned as I got up, he went to swing down on me but I ran towards him, slid through his legs, hit the back of his knees making him stumble forwards, he swung his sword around making me flip backwards avoiding it but he kicked me in the chest sending me on my back, he came over and placed a foot on my chest as he held his sword to my throat,
“Siren!” Robin yelled,
“Pity we’re not on the same side” Slade commented before he went to finish me off, but I grabbed the blade of the sword stopping it in its tracks, I let out a scream sending him backwards letting go of his sword, I got to my feet and twirled the sword in my hand, “You must’ve been desperate” He chuckled as he withdrew another sword,
“Bring it, old man” I smirk, he charged at me, so I blocked his strike before disarming him then kicking him on to his back and impaling his shoulder with the sword into the ground,
“Siren to watchtower. Deathstroke is restrained” I announced into the com,
“Wait you’re connected to the watchtower?” Jaime asked as he and the other two came over,
“Someone’s on their way for pickup” Martian Manhunter replied,
“Copy that” I answered before cutting off, I turned to the three boys, “Of course I’m connected to it. I’ve had to help with their missions before” I answered,
“So, you’re one of the Justice League members?” Bart asked, I shook my head
“No. When they needed someone they could trust but that none of the criminals knew they were a ‘good-guy’ they called me in” I replied,
“Then why join the Young Justice if you were already a valuable member to them?” Robin asked,
“I needed to interact with people my age. Wonder woman’s words not mine” I sigh,
“Is that why wonder-girl acts the way she does?” He questioned, I nodded
“Among other things” I say, he nodded
“Siren” Oliver said as he approached us, I turned to him,
“Arrow” I greet.
***
I let out another sigh as I looked around the Wayne gala, Oliver and Dinah dragged me along to get me out of ‘work’,
“That’s a heavy sigh for an attractive woman like yourself” A male voice commented, I turned to the voice to see Tim Drake stood there,
“I’ve been dragged here against my own will” I reply making him chuckled,
“Tim Drake” He introduced holding out his hand,
“(Y/N) Lance” I greet shaking his hand, another song began and the dance floor was being loaded up by couples as they prepared to dance,
“Would you care to dance?” Tim asked, I gave him a small smile and nodded, he led me onto the floor and we prepared ourselves, we began to dance,
“I know it’s you Robin” I whispered in his ear, he tense up
“I-I don’t know what you’re on about, Miss Lance” he stuttered, I lightly chuckled as he twirled me,
“Oh come on. I know Bruce is B-man, Dick’s Nightwing and Barbara is B-girl” I whispered,
“How?” he asked,
“Bruce trusts me” I answered, he dipped me and brought me back up as the song finished, our faces an inch apart, we both smiled at each other before backing away from each,
“Can I borrow my sister?” Dinah asked as she appeared next to me, Tim nodded, and Dinah dragged me away, we arrived on a balcony and she stopped dragging me, “What was that about?” She asked,
“What do you mean?” I asked,
“The whole thing with Tim” She answered, I rolled my eyes
“It was just a dance” I sighed before there was an explosion and screams, we looked at each other and nodded, we changed into our alter-egos, we entered the room again to see 20+ gunmen dotted around the room, Oliver, Bruce, Dick, Barbara and Tim were on the ground,
“We do this together” Dinah ordered, I nodded and we jumped down, simultaneously taking down four gunmen, we took down the remaining working together before both of us froze as Tim and Oliver were held at gun point, we glanced at each other and created a plan and smirked, nodding at each other, we mentioned for Oliver and Tim to cover their ears before using our scream/cry, the gunmen were momentarily paralysed so Oliver and Tim knocked them out,
“Is everyone alright?” I asked as the other guests began to get up, there was a chorus of ‘yeah’ and ‘yes’, they all began to file out of the doors to return home, I approached Tim, “What about you, Mr Drake?” I asked as a smirk pulled at the corner of my mouth, he rolled his eyes and nodded
“I’m fine, thanks to you” he said, we both smiled at each other “I was wondering if you’d want to go out to dinner with me?” He asked as a light blush appeared on his cheeks and his feet becoming more interesting,
“When?” I asked, his head shot up as he looked at me with wide eyes,
“Tomorrow 6pm?” He offered, I nodded and went over to him and placed a kiss on his cheek and slipped my number in his pants pocket,
“Consider it a date” I smiled as his face went bright red.
***
Tim and I arrived at a diner,
“I thought you’d be more comfortable in this setting than a fancy restaurant” He said as we sat in a booth,
“That’s considerate of you, but a note for the future; I don’t mind either” I smiled, his eyes widened
“Future? You mean we’ll go on more dates?” he asked, I chuckled and nodded making him beam, a waitress came over to our table,
“What can I get you kids?” She asked as she took out a pen and pad, we gave her our orders and she disappeared into the kitchen, after ten minutes our food was placed in front of us,
“So, how’d you get into the business?” I asked, he hummed and finished the mouthful,
“After the second Robin died, I deducted that Batman needed a Robin and became it” He explained,
“Just like that?” I questioned, he nodded
“Just like that. What about you?” He asked,
“Well, I knew about Dinah being a ‘superheroine’, and me being smart decided to follow her and Oliver on one of their missions, a leagues mission, so things escalated, and I end up fighting along side them” I explained, he hummed
“So, how’d you get the name ‘Siren’?” He questioned,
“I didn’t want to be seen as Black Canary’s protégé, but I wanted to be related to her name somehow, so I chose ‘Siren’ with my ‘Siren scream’” I answered, he hummed and looked around the diner, I did the same and stopped on a booth that had Dick and Roy on, I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose.
“What’s wrong?” Tim asked,
“You haven’t noticed?” I asked mentioning their booth,
“Oh, yeah. I noticed, since I could feel Roy glaring at me” He commented, I chuckled
“That’s Roy for you” I say making him smile,
“How about we finish up here and go?” He offered, I nodded, and we went to get up, but Dick and Roy slid in next to us, blocking us in, we both groaned
“Hey guys” Roy greeted,
“What a coincidence that we bumped into each other” Dick commented, Tim and I rolled our eyes
“So, where were you two about to go?” Roy interrogated as he took a fry off my plate,
“I was going to go to the toilet, but someone decided to block me” I answered narrowing my eyes at him, he smiled innocently at me before turning his attention to Tim,
“What about you?” He asked,
“I was going to pay then we were going to leave” Tim answered, then it fell quiet, Roy and Dick were obviously having a silent conversation but then so were Tim and myself, the silence was broken by Dick’s phone pinging, closely followed by the rest of ours,
“Looks like the date’s gonna have to come to an end” Dick commented as we all got up and filed out of the diner, we arrived at the base in our alter-egos,
“What’s the situation?” I asked as we approached the screens,
“Joker and Bane” Kaldur answered,
“You pulled me out of a date for this? You could have handled it with the people here” I exclaim as I threw my hands up in the air and left the room, a few minutes later I was approached,
“So, it’s us, Bart, Jaime, Cass and Barbara that have been left behind” Tim said, I turned to him
“I’m sorry for exploding. It’s just I was really enjoy the date before Roy and Dick crashed then work called” I ranted,
“Hey, don’t worry about it” he smiled and placed a hand on my upper arm, “Besides you did say that we’ll have more dates in the future” He commented, I chuckled
“I did say that, didn’t I?” I mused,
“Can I-?” He cut himself off making me raise an eyebrow,
“Can you…?” I encouraged, he cleared his throat
“Can I kiss you?” He muttered, I lightly chuckled and nodded, so he pulled me into him and crashed his lips onto mine, I smiled into it and returned it, placing my arms on his shoulders.
***
My apartment’s door bell rang making me raise an eyebrow as I went over to it, I opened it revealing Dinah, Oliver and Connor,
“Hi Auntie (Y/N)!” Connor greeted as he hugged my legs,
“I told you I couldn’t do tonight. Tim and I have a date” I say as I picked Connor up,
“You do? You’ll have to cancel” Oliver said, I set Connor down and he ran over to the couch,
“What do mean, I’ll have to cancel? He’s your son, you should spend more time with him” I hissed as I folded my arms,
“(Y/N), Ollie and I haven’t had a date night in a while-”
“And who’s fault is that?” I asked cutting Dinah off, they both sighed
“Please” She pleaded as Oliver held out Connor’s bag,
“You’re so lucky it’s only movie night” I groaned as I took the bag, they smiled and did a mini air-punch,
“We’ll see you tomorrow morning sweetheart” Dinah said to Connor, he ran over and gave his parents a hug,
“I love you” He said,
“We love you too bud, behave for your Aunt” Oliver replied before they disappeared, I sighed resting my head against the door, closing my eyes
“Hey, I’m not late am I?” Tim voice asked making me open my eyes and lift my head off the door to see him holding a small bouquet of flowers, I smiled
“Hey, no. Dinah and Oliver’s just dumped Connor on me” I sighed as he came in, he handed me the flowers placing a kiss on my cheek,
“Well, I guess we’ll have to re-schedule movie night and babysit” He smiled, I closed the door and gave him a massive hug,
“You’re too kind” I mumbled,
“What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t help out?” He chuckled pulling away, I smiled and gave him a small kiss,
“I owe you” I whispered before we went over to Connor, it'd taken Connor three hours to fall asleep, I placed him in my bed and partially closed the door behind me, I let out a heavy sigh as I threw myself on to the couch,
“That was one heavy sigh” Tim commented,
“I’m tired” I groaned, he chuckled shaking his head, I raised an eyebrow to him, “What?” I asked,
“Nothing” He answered, I narrowed my eyes at him,
“Timothy Jackson Drake” I said in a warning tone as I made my way on to his lap,
“(Y-Y/N)” He stuttered as his face grew red, “W-we can’t. C-Connor’s next door” He whispered,
“I suppose we’ll just have to be quiet” I smirked, his eyes widened slightly before he crashed his lips on to mine, I smiled and returned it, my hands going to the back of his neck as his went to my hips as he laid me back on the couch as he climbed on top.
Rewatched - Die hard (1988)
What the bloody hell actually is a Christmas film? I got asked what my favourite one was the other day and it gave me pause for thought. My answer was Home Alone but apparently that’s not a Christmas film either. Is it only a Christmas film if it’s some saccharine laden rubbish about how Christmas heals all wrongs and brings the family together so the people watching can pretend that everything’s all peaches and cream? In that case, I have no favourite Christmas film. But bugger that, I thought.
I’ve long been in the ‘Die Hard is a Christmas film’ camp, so it’s about time I reused this film review format to go through it. I mean, it’s admittedly not as family friendly as an average Christmas film. Most of the ones featuring Tim Allen generally don’t involve German terrorists or bloody messages written on sweatshirts. But it’s set during Christmas, they play Christmas music and someone says ‘Ho Ho Ho’. That’s good enough for me.
Tumblr media
It starts with Bruce Willis looking suitably devoid of emotion as he gets off a flight to go meet his estranged wife. On the way he meets an incredibly chatty limo driver who drops him off at Nakatomi Plaza. There he wanders into a work party, despite being (as far as he’s aware) completely uninvited and underdressed and is immediately served a drink. Then the boss reveals that he invited him down, at great expense, for… some reason or other. I guess when you’ve got big business money, you can just ship your employee’s spouses around whenever you want.
I had honestly forgotten how wooden Mr. McClane actually is. Bruce Willis responds to damn near everything with a slightly bemused smirk and a flat voice until the actual action happens. Still, in the true spirit of Christmas, there is a dose of marital arguments. Then, mercifully, the action begins. A group of thugs roll up, immediatly add a murder charge or two to the list and set to work securing the building. Then the real star of the film shows up: Alan Rickman. Hans Gruber. The reason why we’re here.
His team do the usual bad guy stuff like cutting the phone lines, disabling the security systems and holding all the party goers hostage. It’s up to John McClane to somehow sneak past the guards even though they’re everywhere. Thus begins the whole ‘That’s the way he likes it’ thing in the tagline, despite the clear fact that he’s not having much fun. Never got that tagline. Unless John’s indication of liking something is breathing really heavily all the time, it’s not really accurate.
Tumblr media
I mock but I do genuinely like the cuts between John sneaking around the building and the scenes with Hans screwing with people. The owner gets a bullet in the head while John slowly realises the scale of the whole thing. It’s a genuinely tense moment, one of quite a few that pop up during the course of the film. Mr Takagi’s death is actually quite shocking the first time around as it goes to show the lengths that these criminals will go to. You know, if you exclude the poor doormen.
John gets the bright idea to set off a fire alarm which is immediately cancelled but it does light up a nice ‘you are here’ symbol. This brings us to our first action scene, which proves that the handle of John’s gun must be covered in butter as it flies straight out his hand. Instead, he has to use the rare staircase method of dispatching his enemies. After some more heavy breathing, he gets his hands on a machine gun, a radio and a lighter. Then he writes a humorous Christmas message to put a smile on the face of all the criminals below him. Just a shame it’s written on a dead bloke.
John then shows off his magical bullet repelling vest, as all the shots fired at him miss. We then cut to Sergeant Powell, who is set up to be the comedic relief but mercifully does not stick to that role. He’s actually one of the most endearing characters in the film. He too appears to be wearing a bullet repelling vest as his car gets riddled with bullets but he remains fine, other than a few superficial wounds. He also has a dead body dropped on his car, so it’s not all good. Such is the luck of a heroic character in an action film.
Tumblr media
From there, the film turns into a succession of hostage negotiations, while John does his best to screw everything up. On a side note, what is with the inconsistent changes between German and English. I get it, the majority of your audience isn’t going to understand all the German, but why change between them both. Even when speaking to other German characters, they’ll switch back to English for no readily available reason. The famous ‘Shoot the glass’ scene being a classic example. Odd choice all round.
A less odd choice is that blend of comedy that actions films of this day have. It’s all one-liners given after blowing someone away. ‘Welcome to the party, pal’ comes to mind, delivered after John has sentenced a cop to almost certain death. This only increases when John gets in touch with Hans and proceeds to screw with him at every turn. I actually love it, to be honest. It stops the film being too far up its own arse.
Another action film trope that becomes apparent here is that everyone who isn’t a main character is either stubborn or a straight up idiot. The police chief ordering a raid while ignoring Sergeant Powell, the guy whose car got swiss cheesed, comes to mind. You might as well paint a bullseye on their helmets. Unsurprisingly, the strike team gets shot to bits and their RV gets blown to smithereens. If it’s not the chief screwing things up, it’s the newsreader getting on everyone’s nerves. At least he gets a solid punch in the face at the end.
Tumblr media
John then blows out an entire floor of the plaza with some C4, apparently forgetting that the place is full of hostages and explosions don’t tend to follow the rules. This is an action film, though, so it only kills about two people. On the plus side though, the sleazy coke addict gets shot. So it’s not all bad. On the actual positive side, we get some chat between John and Al, which is frankly adorable. It’s almost a love story cut in over this action backdrop. If only it wasn’t for Mr. Gruber relentlessly hunting down John.
We then get to the infamous ‘helsinki syndrome’ scene before the FBI turn up, who proceed to stonewall everyone. Hans then gets captured by John. He tries to put on a neutral, scared voice but this is Alan Rickman. You could identify Alan Rickman immediately as soon as he opens his mouth. John apparently can too, given that he gives him a gun without any ammo in it. Not sure why he doesn’t just tie him up or take him hostage or something like that but hey, then we’d lose out on a one-liner. Unthinkable.
After failing to take down the leader of the criminals, despite multiple opportunities, we get to my least favourite scene. The bit with the glass in the feet. Every time I see it, it makes my toes shrivel up and crawl back inside my body. It’s just… not nice. Still, after that we get a lovely rendition of Ode to Joy as the vault opens and Hans and the Gang stare in awe at their gains. It’s a lovely Christmas moment. Meanwhile John comes to revelations about his marriage and relays them to his best friend, Al. It’s that holiday catharsis we all love about Christmas films.
Tumblr media
Then in the true Christmas spirit, John McClane beats the everloving crap out of Hans’ second-in-command. But he does it very jovially, even after taking a bullet in the shoulder. Looks like it should’ve hit a lung but action heroes are filled with nothing but muscle, so it’s fine. After number two, of course, it’s time for Hans himself. You all know the scene. A few laughs, a few jokes and a man thrown out a window.
After that, it’s a lot of hugs and reunions and punches in the face. Truly, just a joyous scene. There’s even blank sheets of paper falling down, filling in for the requisite flurry of snow. John gets a touching meetup with his BFF, Al. See, it is a Christmas film after all. There’s some wonderful family bonding and everyone learns the true meaning of Christmas: don’t go to your estranged wife’s Christmas party.
Duke Reviews: The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift
Hi Everyone, I'm Andrew Leduc And Welcome To Duke Reviews Where Today We Are Continuing Our Look At The Fast And Furious Films By Talking About The 7th Movie...
Tumblr media
I Mean 3rd Movie?...
Technically It's The 3rd Movie But Ever Since That End Credits Scene At The End Of Furious 6, It's Become A Spin-off Film. But Can A Fast And Furious Film Be Good Without Vin Diesel And The Original Cast?
When It Came Out, No, Now? We'll Have To Find Out This Is The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift...
This Film Starts With What I Only Can Describe As The Most Boring Opening Credits Ever, The Look Of Them Is Horrible And The Song That Plays Over The Scene Is Dull But Throughout Them We See Our Main Character's School Life.
However Our Main Character, Sean (Played By Lucas Black) Gets His Car Made Fun Of By A Beautiful Girl (Played By Nikki Griffin) Which Leads To Sean Flirting With Her. But Unfortunately Her Boyfriend (Played By Home Improvement's Zachery Ty Bryan) Doesn't Like This At All...
(Boyfriend) For Your Information, My Dad Does Not Own A Viper!, He Owns A Hot Rod...
Tumblr media
Mad That He Dissed His Dad's Car, Brad Throws A Baseball At The Window Of Sean's Car...
No Offense, Brad But I Thought You Were More Of A Soccer Player Than A Baseball/Football Guy...
With The Girl Saying To Let Their Cars Do The Talking, Brad Challenges Him But Sean Declines Saying That He Only Races For Pink Slips But With Brad Saying..
Tumblr media
The Girl Ups The Stakes By Saying That The Winner Will Get Her...
youtube
(Start At 4:10, End At 4:16)
I Think You Guys Get The Gist...
Liking That (And Who Wouldn't Seeing How Hot She Is) They Go To A Housing Development Area Where They Hold The Race...
Now I'm Not Going To Comentate The Races Like I Did In My Other Fast And Furious Reviews, Because This Film Is Basically A Spin-off Now And I'm Only Doing This Movie So I Can Talk About Furious 7 Next Week...
And Since We're Cutting Things Short, Nobody Wins This Race....
Yeah, Nobody...
Brad Ends Up Crashing His Car Into A Billboard, And Sean Damages His Car To The Point He's Lucky To Be Alive...
Taken To The Police Station, The Girl Is Picked Up By Her Mom While Brad Is Picked Up By His Dad (Who Looks Nothing Like Tim Allen) But As For Sean He Apparently Has 2 Priors For Reckless Driving And Willful Destruction Of Property Moving To Different Cities With His Mom In The Last 2 Years And Unfortunately She Doesn't Want To Move Again So, She Sends Sean To Live With His Father In Tokyo...
Once There, He Lays Down 3 Rules Go To School, Come Back And Stay Away From Cars. The Next Morning, Sean Starts School Where He Meets Twinkie...
youtube
No, Not Twinkie The Kid, Just Twinkie (Who Is Played In This By Lil' Bow Wow) Who Tries Selling Sean Everything From Laptops To Cellphones To Air Jordans...
But When Sean Sees A Steering Wheel Twinkie Got For His Car, Sean Is Putty In His Hands As He Takes Him That Night To Show Him His Car...
The Incredible Hulk-Mobile...
No Way In Hell Are We Going To Let Marvel Make A Stand Alone Hulk Movie But Sure We'll Allow The Fast And Furious Movies To Make A Car Out Of Him!
Seriously, It Looks Like One Of Those Die Cast Disney Cars You Buy At The Parks That Looks Like Characters From Stuff That Disney Owns In Fact...
Tumblr media
Yeah, They Made Their Own Hulk Car! And To Tell You The Truth That Looks More Like A Vehicle The Hulk Would Drive Than What Disney Came Up With!
What I'd Like To Know Is What Happens When You Press The Horn Does It Say Phrases Like....
"Hulk, Smash!"
"Puny God"
"Hulk Like Fire, Thor Like Water"
Or
"Take The Stairs, Hate The Stairs! So Many Stairs!"
Also No Offense But Shouldn't The Music Playing Over This Scene Be...
I Got More Hulk Jokes About This Outrageous Vehicle But I Think It's Time That I Continue This Review Anyway, Twinkie Takes Sean To A Parking Structure Where They Find A Bunch Of Racers With Cars Ready To Race And It's There He Meets Neela (Played By Dynasty's Nathalie Kelly) But Neela's I Don't What He Is Takashi (Who's Known Around There As DK) Doesn't Want Him Hanging Around Her Because He's An American Yankee...
And Of Course Twinkie's Like "Yes, Sir We Leave Right Now, Sir" But Sean's Not Willing To Back Away So Easily (But What Sean Doesn't Know Is That DK's Uncle Yamata Is Part Of The Yakuza (Chinese Mafia)) Challenging DK To A Race, DK Declines At First Because Sean Doesn't Have A Car However, Our Old Friend, Han Enters Telling Sean That He'll Lend Him His...
Going Up The Elevator, Sean Finds Out That Racing In Tokyo Is Different Than America...
Telling Sean That Han's Car Is Basically His Baby Or Mona Lisa As Twinkie Puts It...
Hmm, I'm Surprised He Didn't Call It Giselle...
So In Other Words, Twinkie Tells Him, You Break It, You Buy It...
And When The Race Begins, Takashi Wipes The Floor With Him While Sean Damages Han's Car While Trying To Keep Up...
Han Tells Sean That He'll Be In Touch As Sean Returns Home To His Dad Who's Upset At Him For Being Out So Late, Saying That If He Breaks The Rules Again, He's On An Airplane Home...
The Next Day After School, He's Met By Han Who He Thinks Is There For Money To Repair His Car But Turns Out He's Not As He Tells Sean To Get In His Car...
Taking Sean To A Sauna, Han Tells Sean That There's A Guy With A Tattoo Of A Paw That Owes Him Some Money And He Wants Sean To Get It For Him...
Well, Give Sean An A For Effort As Tries But He Gets His Ass Handed To Him By The Guy Who Looks Like A Sumo Wrestler...
Eventually, Getting His Cash, Han Takes The Kid For A Ride To Tell Sean That He's Going To Handle Pick Ups And Deliveries For Him Calling Him Maybe Once A Week Or Once An Hour And He Doesn't Care If He's Sick As Or In Bed With Beyonce, He's Gonna Do It....
Sean Tells Him He'll Do It, On One Condition, He Teaches Sean How To Drift, Saying That It's Not A Negotiation, Sean Tells Han That He Wasn't Negotiating...
Taking Sean To The Pachinko Hall Where Ernie Got That Pachinko Machine That Lord Zedd Turned Into His Pachinko Head Monster. Han Meets Up With DK To Give Him His Pay For The Week. One Of DK's Men Asks Sean When His Next Race Is As He'd Like To Be There To See It, However Sean Goats Him By Saying Why See It When You Could Be In It?...
With DK Asking If Han If He's Ready To Lose Another Car, Han Replies Telling DK That He'd Like To Take His 86 Corolla Off His Hands Which DK Agrees On Only If Han Offers Up His 72 Skyline, Which Han Agrees On...
Heading Out Front While Han And DK Discuss Business, He Goes To A Pay Phone Where Sean Calls His Dad Saying That He Had To Stay After School For Extracurricular Activities And That He'll Be Home Soon, Hanging Up, He Runs Into Neela, Who Asks What He's Doing Here Which Leads Sean To Say That He'd Drop By To Ask DK For Drifting Lessons...
To Which She Warns Him To Not Be Apart Of The Drifting World Which Leads To Sean To Say That If It's Good Enough For You Then It's Good Enough For Me But Then She Says That He Doesn't Know Her As Well As He Thinks He Does When Really He Does...
With Han Returning To His Car, Sean Asks Han If Everything Went Okay With DK? Which He Says That It Did However, Sean Says That He's A Little Worried About Han Because DK Is Yakuza, Han Reminds Sean That DK's Uncle Is Yakuza And That All DK Is Just A Kid Playing Gangster In A Storage Room But Like It Or Not He's A Necessary Evil That Keeps His Uncle At Bay Because They're On His Turf And Being Close With DK Gets Him A Discount...
Asking If Han Has Ever Raced DK, Han Tells Sean No, Because There's No Point To It And That If He Was To Do It, It Would Have To Be For Something Very Important Or Why Do It At All And He's Only Letting Sean Race Because He's DK's Kryptonite...
Taking Sean To A Club, They Go Into Another Room, Filled With Women Where They Find Twinkie Before Heading Into Another Room Where The Real Magic Happens...
Han Gives Sean A Red Evo Because He's Representing Him Now, Sean Begins Practicing Drifting However, Sean Keeps Crashing Into Things...
Oy Gevalt, I'm A Japanese Guy And Yet I Sound Jewish Go Figure!...
About To Go To School, He Sees His Dad Working On A Car He Said That He Found, Sean Tells Him That It Has Potential. Which Leads Him To Send Sean Off To School...
With Friends Of Han Getting Sean, They See Some Guy Knocking Around Twinkie Because An Ipod He Got Off Of Him Was Busted...
Tumblr media
Giving Him His Ipod To Get Him Off Twinkie's Back, Twinkie Gets Mad At Sean Because He Doesn't Do Refunds Or Exchanges...
youtube
(Start At 0:31, End At 0:34)
Talking With Sean About What He Did, He Apologizes To Neela About Last Night And She Walks Away...
Later That Night, Han And Sean Watch As Friends Of Theirs Play Soccer Which Leads Sean To Ask How Han Ended Up In Tokyo...
(Han) Ah, You Know The Old Story, Boy Falls For Girl, Boy Ends Up With Girl, Girl Dies Trying To Save Guy's Life...
Asking Han Why He Let Him Race His Car When He Knew He Was Gonna Wreck it...
Tumblr media
All He Says Is Why Not? He Has Money (Probably Left Over From The Rio Heist) And It's Trust And Character He Needs Around Him Because Who You Choose To Hang With Lets You Know Who You Are...
Wow, I Hate To Say This About This Movie But That Is So True...
Asking What Han Does Drift For? If Not To Win, He Decides To Show Sean And It Turns Out He Does It To Impress The Ladies....
You Know I'd Like To Know To Know If This Takes Place Immediately After Furious 6 Or A Few Years After Furious 6 Because If Its Immediately After Furious 6, Han Sure Got Over Giselle Quickly...
This Leads To Han Teaching Sean How To Drift By Basically Saying That There's No "Wax On Wax Off" With Drifting, You Just Do It...
But As This Montage Continues We See Sean Moving Out Of His Dad's House And Moving In With Han And Twinkie...
So, With Sean Winning The Race, DK Gives Up His Corolla To Han...
Wow, That's A Burn To Your Ego...
Going Out With Neela, Sean Finds Out That Her Mom Died When She Was 10 And She Came Out To Tokyo When She Finished High School And That All She Knows About Her Mom Is That She Used To Work In A Hostess Bar But After Her Death, DK's Grandmother Took Her In...
Ha, Why Do I Have A Feeling This Is Like How Thanos Adopted Gamora...
Talking About His Family, Sean Tells Neela That His Parents Split Up When He Was 3, And Him And His Mom Moved Around A lot Mainly Because Of Him...
Drifting In The Mountains With Neela, She Takes Sean To A Place She Used To Go To When She Was A Kid, Where Sean Talks About The Day He Got His Driver's License...
The Next Day, DK Punches Sean In The Face, Telling Him To Stay Away From Neela, Seeing Sean's Wounds At School, Neela Confronts DK To Tell Him She's Leaving Because He's An Asshole, Which Leads Him To Say The Classic Villain Phrase Of We're Not So Different, You And I...
Because They're Both The Products Of Screw Ups And If They Hadn't Taken Her In She'd Be Just Like Her Mother But No Matter What DK Says Neela Still Leaves And Moves In With Sean, Han And Twinkie...
Being Visited By His Uncle Yamata, DK Gives Him The Week's Pay Through He's Not Able To Understand Half Of The Paperwork There, But One He Does Know Is That Han Is Stealing From Them, DK Doesn't Believe It At First Stating That If It Was True, He'd Have Caught It Which Then Leads Yamata To Say In His Own Way Deal With It Or Else..,
Visiting Han, DK Is Pissed Off And Ready To Kill Han, Which Leads Twinkie To Lower The Doors, So Han Can Fight And Escape...
With Sean And Neela Getting In One Car And Han In Another, DK And His Cronies Follow Them In A Chase Across The City...
Which Leads To The Crash Heard Around The Entire Fast And Furious Franchise...
Tumblr media
And Where Do I Begin To Talk About This Scene?
Tumblr media
Red Dot=Sean And Neela
Blue Squiggle=Shaw
Gold ?= Han
First Off, I Know That This Was Just The 3rd Movie And Furious 7 Wasn't In The Blink Of Their Eyes Yet But All I'm Doing Is Giving A Funny Analysis Of A Scene That Was Way Different Then Than What We Know Now And Second, I'm Not Going To Go "Oh, There's No Cross There For Dom To Find" Shaw Could Have Planted That When The Camera Panned Up...
But Now Onto What I Have To Say, Starting With...
Sean Tries To Save Han Just As The Car Explodes!...
First Off, Shaw Would Not Take Any Chances, He Would Hold Sean Back To Make Sure The Car Exploded And That He Got What Wanted Then When Sean Asks Him "Why He Did That?" He Wouldn't Say A Word, He Would Kill Sean By Either Shooting Him Or Breaking His Neck Before Going After Neela Because They Were Witnesses! Then After That He'd Call Dom Saying...
youtube
(Start At 1:19, End At 1:27)
And Second, As We Get An Up Shot Of Sean And Neela Watching Han's Car Burn, We See That Shaw's Car Is Still There Beside Them! If There's One Thing I Know About Killers It's That They Always Flee The Scene Of The Crime Which Means Shaw Should Be Gone By Now Especially If There's Police Coming!
So, To Finish This Part Off, Shaw's Car Should Have Been Gone After The Job Was Finished And Sean And Neela Should Be Dead Now, This Review's Over, Bye!
Tumblr media
Okay, It's Not Over, It Should Be, But It's Not Anyway, Sean Takes Neela To His Dad's Where They're Found By DK Who's Ready To Kill Sean, But Sean's Dad Is About Ready To Do The Same To DK Only For Neela To Say That She'll Go Back With DK If She Spares Sean So, He Does...
Ready To Put Sean On A Plane Home, Sean Tells His Dad That He's Not Running This Time, He Made This Mess, So It's Up To Him To Fix It To Which Dad Gives Him Credit For Trying To Fix His Problems..
With Twinkie Arriving In The Hulk-Mobile, He Tells Sean That Maybe It's Best He Listen To His Dad And Run But Sean Says He Can't, Deciding Instead Solve His Problems By Dealing With The One Person That DK Listens To And Can't Disobey, His Uncle!
Using Cash That Han Gave Him, Sean Manages To Get Into See Yamata By First Apologizing, Saying That Him And His Nephew Have Disrespected Themselves By The Way They've Been Acting And That He Wishes To Offer A Peaceful Solution By Challenging DK To Another Race With The Winner Staying In Tokyo And Loser, Leaving Town, Never To Return...
With Yamata Agreeing To Sean's Terms, Sean Gets To Han's Garage To Build A Car But Unfortunately, They Have Nothing, Police Confiscated Everything, However, They Do Find The Car That Sean Damaged In His First Race Against DK Which Leads Them To Combine What's Left Of That Into The Car His Dad Found..
Wait A Minute! The Hulk Mobile Has Hulk Toys And A Hulk Bobblehead On It's Dash!?! Oh, God, I Am So Glad I Am Done With Hulk Mobile Jokes Because There's A lot More I Could Take From This...
With The Car Built, The Night Of The Race Is Upon Them As Both Contenders Go To The Starting Line...
And I Think We Know What Happens, Yep, Sean Wins The Race And The Title Of DK With Neela Going Back To Him, Takashi Leaves Tokyo Forever And Everything Seems Happily Ever After. However, One Night At The Parking Garage, Twinkie Comes Over To Sean Saying That Someone Who Knows Han Wants To Race Him Saying That Han Was "Family" So Getting In His Car, He Sees A 1970 Charger, Gee, I Wonder Who's Driving It? Yep, Who Else But Good Old Dom...
And We Never Find Out Who Wins. This Movie Is Okay...
While This Film Does Have A Few Good Moments, It's Mainly Outweighed By A lot Of Bad, While The Setting Is Great, I've Seen Tokyo In A Lot Of Movies And TV Shows (More Recently On The Reality Show Better Late Than Never And If You've Got A Brain Please Watch It, It Is The Funniest Show You Will Ever See, It's Not On Tv Now But If You Have Hulu Watch It On There They Have Both Seasons) But Besides Me Doing A Promotion For An NBC Show, The Cast Was Very Bland Only Cast Member That Was Good Was Sung Kang As Han And While Some Of The Cars Were Well Designed Others Like The Hulk Mobile Were Ridiculous So In Other Words, Just Skip This Film And Go Right To Furious 7 Cause, You'll Be A Lot Happier If You Do...
Till Next Time, This Is Duke, Signing Off...
RANDOM PAIRINGS UNDER THE CUT!
Hey there, everyone! As promised, under the cut are your random thread pairings, and prompts to go along with them! If you have any questions or anything needs to be changed, please, feel free to let the admin team know, and we’ll work things out.
For now, enjoy!
UPDATE: Wanda Maximoff is now paired with Laura Kinney, and America Chavez is now paired with Kitty Pryde!
Tumblr media
DAMIAN WAYNE + KAREN PAGE
God, he seems so young to be out on his own, doesn’t he? And with all the people around him in that alleyway, moaning and groaning in and various states of disarray, what kind of person would Karen be if she didn’t stop and help?
TJ WAGNER + FELICIA HARDY
Turned around and totally lost in a new city—a new universe, even—TJ finds herself in a seedier part of town. In comes Felicia, the night’s bounty in hand, and immediately, TJ feels like there’s something off. Two of them, alone, on a darkened street, in a shady part of town? Nothing could go wrong.
SELINA KYLE + CLINT BARTON
After spending yet another night in Stark Tower, Selina runs into Clint. Immediately interested by his bow and arrows, she makes it her goal to get Clint to be her friend—if only to steal a few of those trick arrows for herself. Just for fun.
HARVEY DENT + JAMES RHODES
Harvey isn’t very good with machines, but seeing the man struggling, he’s going to do his best to help out—unfortunately for Rhodey, that might not end up going exactly as planned.
BARRY ALLEN + JUNE MOONE
June is sketching in the park when, before she could even realize what was happening, there’s a man standing in front of her with a coffee cup dangerously close to slipping out of his hand and onto her paper. It’s a close call, and she’s about to say excuse me, when, of course, someone bumps Barry’s arm, and suddenly, there’s coffee everywhere.
DICK GRAYSON + BOBBI MORSE
A joint investigation with the SCPD and SHIELD should be smooth sailing, but for the life of them, these two just can’t seem to get on the same page about the Genovese case. It’s not going to be long before they start exchanging blows in the conference room.
STEPHANIE BROWN + CASSIE LANG
Concerts are fun, they certainly aren’t as fun when you’re alone—needing a break from the constant shoving of the crowd, the girls bump into each other when they go outside for a break.
JASON TODD + KATE BISHOP
Pfft. He’s seen better. She’s not even as cute as Roy—and he’s going to be sure to let Kate know of that fact. Even if they are in the middle of fighting some baddies.
FRANK CASTLE + JAIME REYES
Frank is dealing with a broken down car, and he’s supposed to be getting somewhere in a hurry—thankfully, Jaime is around to help him out. The only problem is that if Frank isn’t exactly where he needs to be in 15 minutes, he’s missing out on his only shot to get....whatever it is he needs to do, done.
HOWARD REYES + (TIME-DISPLACED) WARREN WORTHINGTON
Picking pockets is easy, but when Howie slips slightly and brushes up against Warren’s back, things get a whole lot more interesting. Of course, he steals the wallet anyway—Warren, noticing it before it’s too late, takes off after him to get his wallet back.
PEPPER POTTS + SARA LANCE
Pepper is no stranger to danger, not when she’s spent so much time close to Tony Stark, but assassins are a little bit different. Sara, knowing that these people are after her, refuses to let anything happen to Pepper—but that easier said than done.
LAURA KINNEY + WANDA MAXIMOFF
It’s less than easy being a mutant in this city, that much is for sure. Anti-mutant protests have been springing up all over the city, and while the number of them have been declining lately, that doesn’t make them any less terrifying when they crop up. Wanda just wants to keep walking—Laura looks ready to get in a fight.
BARBARA GORDON + JONNY FROST
Jim told Jonny to leave his daughter out of it—but honestly, Jonny’s never been good at following the rules. Surprisingly, however, he’s helpful and kind to Barbara, if only to further his own agenda.
BILLY BATSON + IRIS WEST
Working on the easy stories has never been Iris’ forte, and the current story she’s working on is about the ban—and while searching for sources, she quite literally stumbles upon the best source possible. How could she write a story on heroes without input from a hero himself?
NYSSA AL GHUL + ERIK LEHNSHERR
Nyssa is finding more and more that coming here to get Sara might not have been the best plan—and she’s searching the city for something, anything, any source of inspiration to make things click together. Erik isn’t one to pry, but a woman dressed as an assassin certainly seems like someone worth investigating.
WINN SCHOTT + KAROLINA DEAN
Winn is used to being the one being saved (a side effect of being a civilian in this city) but when the girl who’s saving him looks like she’s made of literal rainbows, well—he can’t help but feel a little ridiculous.
KURT WAGNER + DIANA PRINCE
Kurt is blue, and that can get difficult to deal with—especially when he walks out of a building to see a group of anti-mutant protestors he has to push through. Diana, noticing his apprehension, decides to help as best she can, but the protestors aren’t so willing to just let them pass.
 VIV VISION + DANIEL RAND-KAI
Viv isn’t particularly fazed by people being unkind to her but Daniel, upon witnessing the scene, is furious. He decides to step in.
BUCKY BARNES + TIM DRAKE
Bucky’s arm isn’t working, and he’s shit out of luck. Tim thinks he can fix it, but Bucky is wary to say the least—but the way his arm is glitching, well. Bucky can’t decide what he’s more nervous about.
ROY HARPER + TONY STARK
Tony gave his boyfriend a goddamn dog, and Roy still hasn’t met him. He decides that needs to change.
PIETRO MAXIMOFF + JAINA HUDSON
The White Rabbit is fast—but Quicksilver is faster. Whatever the hell got these two into a disagreement, everyone else better steer clear.
PETER PARKER + TOMMY SHEPHERD
It’s midterms season, which means cramming for these two—after chugging about four energy drinks each, however, they’re bouncing off the walls. Now, Tommy is trying to convince Peter that they should suit up—what’s the worst that could happen?
KITTY PRYDE  + AMERICA CHAVEZ
Of course, the one day it rains in Star City, it pours. And of course, that’s the day America and Kitty forget their umbrellas, leaving them stuck inside a large store. They’re wandering the aisles when the power goes out—leaving them in the pitch black.
JESSE CHAMBERS + ROSEMARY ATKINSON
Studying for midterms is stressful—but at least it’s a little less stressful in a pastry shop. After noticing Jesse sitting in the corner poring over her textbook for hours on end, Rosemary decides to give the girl a reason to take a study break—a cupcake and a quick distraction.
JUBILATION LEE + SAM WILSON
After everything that happened with the man who tried to kill her, Jubilee is a little jumpy—which is more than fair. Sam, leaving his office, notices that the young woman seems a little agitated, and tries to help as best he can.
ADALINE LANGSTON + CASSANDRA CAIN
Cass accidentally let Alfred the cat out of the manor—it was definitely an accident, obviously, but she also obviously cannot let Damian find out. Adaline is looking for the owner of a cat she found, but Cass can’t quite tell if that cat is Damian’s cat—and she knows bringing home another cat would be even worse than just losing the cat.
KORIAND’R + DAISY JOHNSON
Daisy just needs a drink—and thankfully, the bar is empty. Kory is more than happy to just spend some time talking to the other woman, but when a group of rowdy drunkards walk in, their quiet time is heavily disrupted.
JOKER + JIM GORDON
My, my, Jimmy! You can’t drag in Jonny-Jonny and hold him for hours and hours and expect to get out of it without any commotion!
JAMIE-DEAN ATON + NATASHA ROMANOFF
Natasha has seen that look before. Something with JD feels off, but she can’t quite place what it is. However, Natasha isn’t one to leave a mystery unsolved—so, while she’s talking to him, she’s trying to do a little digging, too.
ROBBIE REYES + JESSICA JONES
Bar fights seem to be Jessica’s scene lately, and Robbie just knows that he wants no part of it—somehow, he gets dragged in, anyway. After everything is over, they have to deal with the carnage before the cops show up.
CHRIS KENT + MON-EL
It’s always strange to meet someone who’s like you, especially when you’re an alien in a sea of humans. It’s even stranger when Mon-El know who Chris is, but not the other way around.
ZATANNA ZATARA + DODGER
Dodger knows of someone who has an artifact that Zatanna is after—and while he’s willing to sell, he’s only willing to sell to Dodger. Now, Zatanna has to convince him to do this, but it doesn’t look like there’s anything in it for him. Zatanna has to convince him.
HARLEEN QUINZEL + KATIE POWER
Hunky-Dory is missing! Harley is sure he’ll come back, but still, enlisting some help on the way, she’s hunting through the streets to find him.
GABRIEL SUMMERS + WADE WILSON
Yikes, Gabriel has a kid? Oh boy, Wade knows that he should probably steer clear, but something about the guy looks familiar—he can’t help but get closer to get a better look at the father and son.
SHARON CARTER + ANNA MARIE
Sharon can take care of herself, she knows that, but Star City is far from safe at night. It’s definitely a relief to know that Anna Marie is in the same boat—and she won’t have to walk home alone.
HOWARD STARK + HOLLY ROBINSON
Holly isn’t known for being particularly patient with people who don’t seem to show her respect—and she’s fairly sure that Howard is just about the worst person she’s met in a long, long time in that regard.
STEVE ROGERS + SCOTT SUMMERS
Laser eyes—at least, what he assumes are laser eyes—are a new one, but Steve takes it in stride, using his shield to deflect the beams before any damage could be done. But why is this kid using his power on Steve—what could he have done to make it necessary?
BEST MOVIE MOMENTS OF 2019
WARNING: ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS
BONUS:
The Mall Climax from POLICE STORY
Jackie Chan’s early hit Police Story saw a recent re-release via the Criterion Collection. Northern American audiences could finally see the film and its sequel in its original language. I got the opportunity to see this film in a theatre and I was treated to one of the greatest action sequences of all time.
Officer Chan Ka Kui (Chan) is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, and the mob is after him. The only one who can clear his name is gangster moll Selina Fong (Brigitte Lin), who has just collected incriminating documents and is being chased in a mall by mob henchman. With the help of his girlfriend May (Maggie Cheung), Chan takes on the bad guys to save Selina and get the documents.
This sequence is itself a masterpiece of action filmmaking. It has everything you want in a Jackie Chan movie. The martial arts are fast and intense, with mobsters flying of their feet and falling down floors. There’s destruction galore, with many kiosks and glass smashed to pieces. There’s even a motorcycle chase. But that’s nothing compared to the piece de resistance when Chan slides down a long pole with sparks literally flying on the way down. It was so nice they showed it thrice.
What makes it all work is the pacing. Chan and his stunt team do a perfect job building tension throughout, maintaining focus on the story. Of course, it’s not a Jackie Chan movie without visual gags, and this sequence delvers between Chan blocking baseball bat attacks using a clothes rack or causing a henchman to slide down an escalator rail.
If I were teaching at a film school, I’d use this sequence to show how to pace an action sequence.
10)                                  The Final Confrontation from THE ART OF SELF DEFENCE
Sure, you may have predicted the outcome when meek martial arts student Casey (Jessie Eisenberg) challenges the psychotic Sensei (Alessandro Nivola) to a fight to the death. But it’s still hilarious when he puts a bullet through Sensei’s head. And in a very Eisenberg moment, Casey states he can’t decide which one liner to use, so he uses both. And as an icing on the cake, he brags that he killed Sensei using the finger-punch technique.
9)                                    “I Love Me” from ISN’T IT ROMANTIC?
I don’t know about you, but I enjoyed this movie. Sure, the romantic comedy clichés are nowhere near as frequent as they used to be (unless they’re Hallmark movies), but it’s still fun to watch them get mocked remorselessly. But the high point of this film subverts the classic wedding climax.
You know the scene. The object of the hero(ine)’s affections are about to marry another person and he/she must stop the wedding and proves his/her love. At least, that’s what Natalie (Rebel Wilson) thinks when she crashes Josh’s (Adam Devine) wedding. But in that moment, she realizes the person she needs to love is not Josh, but herself. Thanks to a cruel mother (Jennifer Saunders), Natalie has left herself get pushed around by everyone, believing she isn’t worthy. So, she’s brought into the world of a romantic comedy universe to teach her a lesson in self-worth. It’s an important lesson for a little girl to learn.
8)                                    “I don’t have to prove anything to you” from CAPTAIN MARVEL
This scene was a true standout in an otherwise superhero movie.
When Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) former mentor/nemesis Yon-Rogg tries to goad her into fighting him without her powers, she takes a lesson from Indiana Jones and instead blasts him with her light beams.
This of course plays into the cliched scene where the bad guy goads the hero into fighting him/her without powers, seeing if they’re so tough without it. Admit it, there are time you’d wish the hero would just shoot the baddies when he/she’s got them dead to rights.
Plus, I love that this is now a gif used to mock douchebags who cry “Debate Me”.
7)                                    Rey Vs. Kylo Ren from STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER
No matter how weak the film, Star Wars always delivers an awesome lightsaber battle, no matter how far the two opponents are.
While the film goes out of its way to distance itself from the Last Jedi, the film takes advantage of the psychic connection (or force connection) between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and Rey (Daisy Ripley) for an awesome lightsaber battle. As Rey fights from the Star killer base and Kylo from Kijimi, their connection becomes strong enough they can make physical contact. It leads to a mind-blowing visual where Kylo cuts a bag in Kijimi and it spills out in the Star killer base. But it causes Rey to give away her location when they smash the pedestal holding Vader’s destroyed mask.
The recent film had the same problem as Return of the Jedi with playing it too safe. But at least both have great lightsaber battles.
6)                                    Woody Says Goodbye from TOY STORY 4
Pixar always knows how bring on the tears. They certainly gain a lot of tears when Woody (Tom Hanks) says goodbye to his friends.
When Woody finds himself stuck in the closet with the preschool toys (played by comedy legends Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Carol Burnett and Betty White), I suspected the film would end with Woody leaving his friends and staying with Bo Peep (Annie Potts). That never stopped me from welling up when Woody says goodbye to Bo for the last time. But the real gut punch is when Buzz (Tim Allen) gives him permission to leave with four words “Bonnie will be okay.”
I suspect this film is an allegory of either retirement or a parent’s life after the parents leave. Woody’s devoted his life to being played with by Andy and Bonnie. Even when he’s ignored by Bonnie, he still goes out of his way to take care of Bonnie, leading him to create and watch over Forky (Toby Hale). Then he reunites with Bo, who shows him an alternate life free from owners. When he decides to stay with Bo, it feels like he’s finally being rewarded for all the sacrifices he’s made for others. After some hard-learned wisdom, he has earned the right to do something for himself.
5)                                    The Final Battle Scene from AVENGERS: ENDGAME
MCU had a lot to live up to after Avengers: Infinity War. After the previous film has not only managed to pull off an enormous ensemble while giving ups one of the most compelling villains in movie history, Avengers: Endgame needed to deliver the mother of all battles. Once again, the Russo Brothers have done the impossible, giving us one of the best final battles in comic book history.
Just seeing all the Marvel heroes assemble to take on Thanos (Josh Brolin) and his minions is an awe-inspiring image worthy of a splash page. And the film keeps on deliver, giving many heroes a chance to shine, whether it’s Captain America (Chris Evans) finally holding Mjorner, All the female heroes standing together to assist Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) or just Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) holding one finger. And it all leads up to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) making a final sacrifice, not before delivering his iconic line “I am Iron Man”.
Credit should go to screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley for juggling and endless array of characters while keeping a consistent flow with the story.
4)                                     Combining Two Worlds in a Soup in RAMEN SHOP
Here’s a moment to showcase the heal power of food.
Ramen chef Masato (Takumi Saito) has gone to Singapore in hopes of finding out more about his family after finding his late mother’s notebook. But his grandmother (Beatrice Chien) wants nothing to do with him, still haunted by WW2. So, one night, he serves her a dish combing ramen and bak kut teh. With one take, his grandmother bursts into tears, finally tearing down the wall of pain.
3)                                    The Pale Lady from SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK
This year has seen many movie monsters, whether it’s Chucky’s (surprisingly good Mark Hamill) successful return, the Tethered or Pennywise’s many horrifying transformation. But none have terrified me more than this enormous blob with the warped smile.
Allan Schwartz’s macabre illustrations for the Scary Stories series are as iconic as the stories themselves. As such, it was important creature designs to match Schwartz’s style, especially with Guillermo Del Toro producing. But a character as stylized as the Pale Lady is a challenge to bring to life. It’s so easy for it to come off as unintentionally hilarious. But this film not only succeeds in bringing the Pale Lady (Mark Steger) to life, but makes it look downright terrifying. Just seeing it twiddle its fingers and blink sends a chill down your spine.
It all helps with the mis-en-scene. While most horror films would show a scene like this in darkness, Andre Ovredal and cinematographer Roman Osin break the rules by shooting this scene with bright red. And it works; giving the scene a nightmarish feel.
What makes this film truly terrifying is the feeling of helplessness. As the Pale Lady slowly approaches, Chuck (Austin Zajur) runs across the hospital hallways. But no matter where he turns, the Pale Lady appears in front of him. And it’s getting closer. Seeing that demented smile and beady eyes coming closer to the camera feels all too real. But that’s nothing compared to what it does when it catches you.
2)                                    The Final Sacrifice from MIDSOMMAR
Here’s one of the best endings of the year in the Break-up movie of the year.
Throughout their trip to a Swedish Midsommar ritual, Dani (Florence Pugh) has been reeling from the trauma of her murder/suicide. Her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) and his friends are no help at all, caring way more about their thesis than offering emotional support.[1] Despite their foreign customs (and murderous rituals), this pagan society offers way more emotional support than her boyfriend does. It’s here that she finds a twisted triumph over Christian when she’s named May Queen and he’s paralyzed by drugs, stuffed in a bear carcass and offered as a ritual sacrifice.
Sure, the earlier scene of two elders jumping to their deaths is gruesome and horrifying, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the idea of being burned alive and unable to even blink. But what makes this scene so unforgettable is that it’s shot in the least horror ways imaginable. Cinematographer Pawel Pogorzelski makes colours pop with bright blue skies, the clean white wardrobes and the bright yellow burning house, to contrast with Christian’s horrible fate. But the icing on the cake is the haunting score by Bobby Krlic, delivering some sad strings.
And that’s not even getting onto the layers of subtext writer/director Ari Aster leaves for the audience to discuss once they leave the theatre. When Dani smiles in the end, has she found healing in the most bizarre way or is she a vulnerable woman manipulated and driven mad by a cult? Aster never offers an easy answer.
1)                                    When Housesitting Goes Wrong from PARASITE
Things seem to be finally working out for the Kim family. They have successfully tricked the rich Park into hiring them as servants and now they have less financial insecurity. And the matriarch Kim Chung-sook (Hye-jin Jang) housesitting the Park’s home while they’re out camping, she, her husband (Kang-ho Song) and children (Woo-sik Choi and So-dam Park) seize this moment to live like they own the place. Life is good.
Of course, you’re waiting for the shoe to drop. And that shoe drops when a former servant comes ringing the doorbell. From that moment, the story takes one unexpected direction after another, keeping you off guard without sacrificing story. And that’s before the Park family come home. Most filmmakers wish they could create as much suspense as Bon Joon Ho does as the Kims hide from the Parks while Chung-sook distracts them.
But at the core of this sequence is how poverty forces people to hurt others and degrade themselves for survival.
[1] Hell, Christian’s not even good to his friends, even stealing Josh’s (William Jackson Harper) thesis idea.
DCU Bang 2nd Story Claims
Tumblr media
Hello! Second claims are now open and artists are free to claim as many stories as they are reasonably sure they can finish! Second claims are optional. Don’t want to claim a second story, or don’t feel like you’ll be able to create something for two stories? You don’t need to claim! I would much rather an artist focuses and creates something awesome for one story, than for an artist to be stressed out trying to create something for two stories. Know your limits and don’t overburden yourself! Each story can be claimed an additional two times. That means there is a potential total of 3 artists per story, and a minimum of 1 artist per story. While unlikely, it would be pretty hectic and stressful for an author to have to coordinate with 16 artists on their story! That’s why there is a limit, and to encourage people to spread the art around to other stories. =D Stories are guaranteed only one artist each. I cannot guarantee that every single story will get a second artist. Please be understanding of this! Second claims will close Saturday, July 13th 23:59 MDT, when all fanworker sign-ups will be closed. How to Make Multiple Claims:
Stories are claimed on a first come, first served basis.
Fill out this Google Form right here
A matching email will go out to both the artist and the author containing each other’s contact information after a claim is successful. I plan to start sending these emails out Sunday morning. You should receive this email no later than 72 hours after I have confirmed the claim. If you don't get this match up email, please get in contact with me ASAP so that artists and authors can get to work quickly! Every story is listed here is not guaranteed a second or third artist! I can only guarantee one artist per story.
  If you have any questions or concerns, you can email me at [email protected], or contact me on the DCU Bang Discord!
1 Title: Fly With Me Word Count: About 14k Genre: Fantasy-Adventure Fandom/Universe: Green Lantern, Flash (comics) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Hal Jordan/Guy Gardner/John Stewart/Alan Scott Warnings: Mild/implied body dysphoria Rating: PG-ish Summary: When Watchman Barry Allen arrives to a grisly murder scene, the last thing he expects is the enigmatic dragonlords of the realm to arrive and ask for him specifically. They are handsome and charming, but the existence of enormous fire-breathing flying lizards that seem to exert some kind of... Strange emotional aura is more than a little terrifying. He is introduced to the prince of these dragonlords, Hal, and steps up to be taken back to the towering natural fortress of Oa, a massive hollowed out mountain that sits on the edge of the continent. Called the 'weyr', Oa is home to the dragons and their riders, and Barry soon finds himself welcomed inside with all the honours that a prince might receive. In the morning after a restless night's sleep he is bathed and anointed, and taken down deep beneath the mountain to a holy underground sea, where he must confront the mysterious Lord of Oa and receive the prize for which he had been chosen: A dragon egg, rare and precious. The last third of the story will be hatching the dragon, and a montage of sorts with Barry further bonding with the dragon riders and forming a... Tentative proto-romantic relationship with them. He trains in arms with Guy, learns the histories and concepts of the weyr with John, is taught about the running and logistics of Oa from Alan, and finally Hal tutors him on bonding with his dragon, and eventually flying with it. The broad aesthetic of the fic is very much generic medieval fantasy, set mostly in the mountainous fortress/castle of Oa. Characters vary a little bit from canon appearances, mostly in regards to hairstyles and the like, but a few characters are trans, which is mostly going to be a background detail. There are no warnings except for a crime scene early on (which will be edited down) and brief discussions of trans characters being trans, so there's a bit of mild dysphoria but no explicit details or transphobia/homophobia. There is implied polyamory and age difference, but everyone is consenting adults and nothing is properly established in this fic.
2 Title: The Case of the Missing Son Word Count: 6,031 of 10k-ish Genre: Mystery, Romance Fandom/Universe: Batman (comics) Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson, Talia al Ghul, Damian Wayne Warnings: Minor violence Rating: NC-17 Summary: Bruce Wayne has come to PI Dick Grayson with a problem. His ex-wife, Talia al Ghul, has been sending him letters claiming they have a son. Bruce wants Dick to find the boy and bring him home. Dick gathers information from various sources before running into Talia herself, which only results in him getting beat up. He goes back to Bruce to convince him to confront Talia. Eventually, the son goes to Bruce, and Bruce and Dick get some private time together. The story takes place solely in Gotham, from Dick's office, to Wayne Manor, with one trip down into the caves of Gotham for the showdown.
3 Title: Forth My Mimic Comes Word Count: 19k Genre: Mystery, Supernatural Fandom/Universe: Batman (mostly comics) Characters/Pairings: Gen; Jason Todd, Barbara Gordon, Tim Drake Warnings: past canon character death, non-consensual bodyswap, thoughts that could be construed as non-specific suicidal tendencies (i.e., "I was already dead, if I die again it's no big deal," etc.) Rating: PG/T Summary: Robin saves a boy from being hit by a car, only to discover that the victim is none other than a very alive (if comatose) Jason Todd. An already unusual situation turns even more bizarre when an unfortunate turn of phrase and an errant bit of magic cause Jason and the current Robin to end up in each other's bodies. Knowing it's only a matter of time before Bruce learns of the switch and locks him up in a fit of paranoia, Jason must seek the help of the enigmatic (and familiar) Oracle to fix the problem, all the while learning far more than he ever wanted to know about the boy who replaced him. Takes place immediately following Jason's resurrection in a slightly canon-divergent timeline, primary locations being the clock tower, manor, and cave (and all of Gotham, because patrol).
4 Title: Pussycat, Pussycat, Where Have You Been? Word Count: 4,579 of 5k Genre: Mystery Fandom/Universe: Batman (comics) Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Selina Kyle, Tommy Elliot Warnings: Nonconsensual body modification, some torture Rating: PG-13 Summary: Selina Kyle is missing. Bruce finds mannequins and dummies of her around Gotham, each with a modified nursery rhyme about cats. Bruce follows these clues all across Gotham, growing more desperate to find her. Finally, he confronts the villains of Gotham and finds Selina, only to find Hush there as well. They battle and Bruce rescues Selina and takes her back to the Batcave. This takes place solely in Gotham, from the streets and graveyards of Gotham, to beneath Arkham Asylum, to the Batcave.
5 Title: Daily Gab Word Count: 5776 Genre: Coming Out Fic Fandom/Universe: Batfam Characters/Pairings: Jon/Damian, Damian & Dick Warnings: Bullying Rating: PG-ish Summary: Damian finds a tabloid taped to his locker at school. The headline? "Wayne Kid... Gay?" He endures a day at school listening to the gossip from all the other kids. Dick does the brotherly thing and helps Damian sort through all he's feeling. Damian admits to Jon what the tabloid said and why he's been running scared all day, they talk about the reality of what they want together and Bruce manages to be a real father for once. Summary I'm posting when I post the fic: Damian swallowed against the bile in his throat and carefully took in his next breath, walking himself through the steps of emotional calm. Pretend this was only torture. Pretend it was only a gunshot wound. Pretend it was only his body in pain and not his heart and his mind. Remove himself from the situation and take a few steps backwards from the reality of it.
6 Title: Stay My Tragedy Word Count: 16k Genre: Drama, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Romance Fandom/Universe: Batman, Deathstroke, Red Hood Characters/Pairings: Slade/Jason Warnings: explicit sex, angst, descriptions of violence, references to self harm, slight dubcon, problematic relationship Rating: NC-17 Summary:
Soul marks can appear at anytime in one’s life -- a mark of karmic destiny that most people take to mean they’ve met the person they’re meant to fall in love with. Jason knows that’s not true. He knows because his soul mark appeared in the very last moments before he died -- marking his destiny to be murdered by the hands of a madman.
  It is a world in which fate is unbelievably cruel, when Jason’s soul mark is of none other than the man who murdered him. Slade has other ideas however, and he might just be the one man who can change Jason's tragic fate into something else.
7 Title: New Horizons Word Count: 6091 Genre: Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Canon Divergence/AU Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown, Tim Drake Warnings: Major Character Death, Abusive Parents, Child Trafficking Ring, Drugs Rating: PG Summary: Jason, Tim, and Stephanie meet while Jason still holds the Robin mantle. They band together to take down a child trafficking ring, all while each one is fighting their own personal battles. Stephanie's dad is a small-time crook who is major-times ruining her chances at a better life. Tim's parents are never home--he doubts they could pick him out of a lineup. Jason is suddenly thrust into life with a billionaire (and vigilante), but not everyone might want him there. Story is mostly set in Gotham and Wayne Manor, with a few scenes in Titans Tower. The Major Character Death is Jason, but it happens off screen and in the epilogue. The Abusive Parents is Tim's parents neglecting him. Drugs are a passing mention. The Child Trafficking Ring is a major plot point.
8 Title: You’re saving Blüdhaven but who saves you? Word Count: 3457 Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Humor Fandom/Universe: Batman/Nightwing comics, Under the Red Hood Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson, Jason Todd/JayDick – Jason Todd/Dick Grayson Warnings: child’s death, mentions of rape, canon typical violence, non consensual drug use, incest (pseudo-incest? Jason and Dick were adopted), self esteem issues Rating: T/Teen And Up Audiences /PG14+ Summary: After a kid got killed Dick, already in a bad place, decides that his only option to make a difference is to fight crime in a different way. He decides to partner up with a carefully chosen criminal and Red Hood caught his attention even if some of their morals are on the opposite sides of the scale. This somehow leads to Dick having an elusive roommate he developed an attraction to. It’s a shame no one told him Red Hood is in fact Jason. This story is canon divergence or alternate universe and takes place after the events with Blockbuster and Tarantula in Nightwing comics and intertwines with some happenings from Under the Red Hood. The action is placed mainly in Blüdhaven, but there are trips to Gotham and Wayne Manor. The story has a romantic relationship between adopted brothers. The rape is mentioned several times and one of the character is forcibly drugged. It also contains description of child’s death and violence.
9 Title: A Bit(e) Wild Word Count: 5-6k total, 4k written Genre: mostly Angst/Fluff but some Action/Adventure Fandom/Universe: Losers/Batfamily, no particular series Characters/Pairings: established Jensen/Cougar, will be Jensen/Cougar/Jason Todd later in series. Background canonical Pooch/Jolene, mention of Clay/Aisha. Warnings: Graphic violence, swearing, maybe sex in the flashback Rating: Explicit. Even if no sex happens yet, it will later, and there's also the violence to consider. Summary: The Losers have just barely taken down Max and cleared their names; Jensen's still cleaning up post-mission but they're all back home. Jason Todd's preparing to move back to Gotham and butt heads with Batman when a bit of pest control ends with him bitten by a wolf shifter. He didn't think the Pit's aftereffects would allow him to be changed, or that he'd call the Losers for backup again, but of all the people Talia had him learning from, Cougar's the only shifter he knows he can trust if this IS the dreaded change coming on. Cue frantic phone call. The Losers load up and head out immediately, but Pooch brings his family just in case, Clay rides up with Roque, and Jensen and Cougar lead the charge because they've already got the shifter genes and being bitten again isn't going to do anything to them (Jake is a recent change; Cougar was born a shifter). By the time the others arrive, they've got Jason settled and all three are in their animal forms. Jensen is a wolf, Cougs is a cougar, Jason is a snow leopard. After the first few lessons, Jason gets impatient--maybe the Pit, maybe new instincts, partly the knowledge that the Losers aren't going to just let him leave until he's got enough control over his shifter side to satisfy Cougar. He tries to slip out in the night, half hoping they won't follow him, subconsciously aware this will be much easier with trusted backup. Every Loser was expecting this, though, and when Jason slinks off to Gotham, they're still mostly packed and ready to head out. It doesn't take them long to follow.
10 Title: where monsters lie (in dead men's dreams) Word Count: ~75k total, 47.7k written (including unfinished draft) Genre: Drama, Horror, Angst Fandom/Universe: Batman Arkham Games, and a lot of creative liberty taken with comic canon and the traditional Alpha/Beta/Omega AU Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd/Dick Grayson, Jason Todd/Bruce Wayne, Bruce Wayne/Dick Grayson Warnings: Non-con, Dub-con, Drugging, Non-traditional ABO Dynamics, Bondage, Descriptions of Torture, Pseudo Incest, Kinky/Rough Sex, Intersexed Characters, Background Polyamory, Angst, Murder Rating: R Summary: Oracle enlists Red Hood's reluctant help to find Batman and Nightwing, who have disappeared during an arms bust deal orchestrated by the Penguin. They've been captured and dosed with a perverted form of the Scarecrow's latest toxin, and the effects of the toxin force the three of them to face their feelings for each other. All Jason wants to do is run away, except Dick won't let him leave. Things grow more complicated when the Penguin re-emerges with a threat none of them had expected, and Jason takes it upon himself to teach the Penguin a permanent lesson. Meanwhile, Dick has been experiencing random bouts of mania and murderous intent, ever since getting dosed with the toxin. By the time he confronts Jason about the Penguin's vicious murder, Jason sees more of the Joker in Dick than he does in his nightmares. Fortunately for them both, there's no mystery in Gotham that Batman can't solve in time. The story is set in Gotham City, 1.5-2 years post the game Batman: Arkham Knight, but also features several flashbacks of bastardized canon scenes from the comics. If you're a stickler for canon, this will probably kill you dead so please bear that in mind. Besides that, there is a single instance of non-con and another instance of molestation. There are also two implied sex scenes which can be considered dub-con. There is pseudo-incest between Jason, Dick and Bruce. The Penguin gets tortured to death but the torture occurs off-screen and only the results are described in graphic detail. The polyamory is mentioned throughout but does not occur on-screen.
11 Title: The Sacredness of Tears Word Count: 13k Genre: Romance, character study, elements of fantasy and drama/angst Fandom/Universe: Batman comics, set in the future and using events from New Earth and the current continuity Characters/Pairings: Tim Drake/Jason Todd, Tim Drake-centric Warnings: temporary character death, pseudo-incest, canon-typical violence, discussions of mental illness, parental abuse through neglect, swearing Rating: PG-13 (maybe R for swearing?) Summary: Tim Drake Wayne isn’t weak. He can’t be. And now that he can travel through time, he has the perfect tool to make sure he’ll never be vulnerable again. Gradually, Tim’s family, friends, and his slowly blossoming relationship to Jason teach him otherwise. The story is set in Gotham with scenes in Tim’s apartment, the Batcave, a diner and various rooftops. There are scenes with multiple members of the batfamily and Tim’s team. The romantic scenes are focused on cuddling and size difference. The plot spans several years. Tim is eighteen at its beginning and twenty-five at its end. There is one detailed description of a meltdown or anxiety/panic attack. There are discussions of mental illness; some symptoms of depression are shown, especially withdrawing from the world and diminished self-worth, but nothing too bad and absolutely no hint of self-harm or suicide. Jason dies in one scene (not the canonical temporary death), but that is quickly reversed. There are descriptions of injuries. The parental abuse refers to Tim’s and Jason’s canonical backstories, not Bruce (who tries to be a good parent in this).
12 Title: The Nightingale Word Count: ~14k total, 8.5k written Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Alternate Universe, Drama, Healing Fic (kinda) Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types, Red Hood and the Outlaws Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd Warnings: No Warnings Apply Rating: NC-17 Summary: Crushed by the guilt of Jason's death, Dick quits the vigilante life, gives up Nightwing, begs Bruce for a clean slate, and runs away to New York City. He takes shelter at the Nightingale, a nightclub where Dick works as an exotic dancer, a stripper named Richie. Dick uses the blinding stage lights, Bloody Marys, and a mysterious man named Jay to hide his past. However, Dick's rather painful former life is slowly uncovered by Jay through a series of one night stands. Meanwhile, Dick also has some unconventional run-ins with the Red Hood, a supposed antihero working in the tri-state area and associated with the family Dick has not had any relations with for over five years. Old wounds reappear, and Dick's new life slowly falls apart around him as the truth comes to light. Set primarily in NYC, in the Nightingale nightclub and at the different hotel rooms Jay books. Towards the end, Dick and Jason will eventually move back into Gotham City and Wayne Manor. Story takes place five years after Jason's death. Dick's "new" life is an emotional roller coaster of hurt/comfort, a path of healing, a life built on lies, and identity porn woven all throughout it, until it is all untangled in the end.
13 Title: Between Flight Word Count: ~15k, 10.8k written Genre: Romance, Drama, Humor, Alternate Universe Fandom/Universe: Batman - All Media Types Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd Warnings: No Warnings Apply Rating: PG-13 Summary: Jason is a 15-year-old orphan, living at a crappy orphanage, going to school because it is the only fun in life, and dreaming of the day he becomes eighteen. After a little altercation with a pickpocket, Jason meets Robin, and from that night on, Jason could not get rid of the Boy Wonder. Coincidentally, Dick Grayson starts at Jason's school as well, and decides to befriend him of all people. Jason finds himself being tugged in two directions - towards a charming and talkative circus boy with a past similar to his, and towards Gotham's own hero in scaly panties. Over the course of a couple weeks, Jason is dumped at a school dance, kissed on rooftops, taken on dates a couple times a week, and even glared at by the Batman himself. Needless to say, Jason finds that his life is a lot more interesting after he met both Dick and Robin. But of course things smell fishy to Jason. Especially when Robin knows tricks that only Mr. Circus Boy can do. Or when Dick uses the same girly shampoo as the teen hero. Or when their identical disarming smiles send bursts of happiness straight through Jason's heart. Batman might be the World's Greatest Detective, but Jason Todd is not so shabby either. Set primarily at Jason and Dick's high school, the orphanage, the rooftops of Gotham City, the luxurious halls of Wayne Manor, with special appearances of "date" locations around the city. Jason is 15, while Dick is 17.
14 Title: Moon Dust On Your Lips Word Count: ~6100 Genre: Romance, First Time, Mutual Pining Fandom/Universe: Batman and Green Lantern, no specific canon Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Hal Jordan Warnings: Mild sub/Dom, explicit sex, biting and bruising, praise kink Rating: NC-17 Summary: The Justice League is trying to expand their potential pool of allies in the known universe, and with the help of their Green Lanterns, they set off to personally negotiate with as many people as they can. Everyone is involved, but it mostly falls to Bruce/Batman and Hal Jordan. The longer Bruce and Hal work together, the more Bruce let's Hal see under the cowl, and the more Hal starts to like what he sees. Bruce even accepts advice from Hal on an issue dealing with his children. Then Hal, returning exhausted from a mission to Oa, loses his temper at the tail end of a League meeting. He says something stupid within Batman's hearing, and then goes off to get decidedly drunk with Barry. Hal confesses that he has a crush on Bruce, but there isn't anyway that he can see it ever happening, so he decides to just ignore it and move on with his life. Bruce doesn't exactly get the memo right away, but as soon as Hal starts physically distancing himself from Bruce as much as possible, their tentative friendship falls to the wayside. Soon, Bruce and Hal are back to being uneasy coworkers. It culminates with Bruce and Hal on the return trip of another successful negotiation, when their escorts decide to up and leave them in the Middle of Nowhere, Spaceville in a small, cramped, one man space pod. There's an argument, confessions, and then sex, before being rescued. The story takes place in a variety of locations, including Wayne Manor, the Watchtower, Barry's apartment, and the space pod. The sex will include Bruce manhandling a very willing Hal, with some rougher edges (biting and bruising, praise kink).
Hal falls back asleep, and then wakes Bruce up when he starts exhibiting signs of a wet dream. Bruce pleasures Hal until he wakes up, and then gets Hal off. Hal turns the tide on Bruce, teasing him until Hal decides he's ready to ride Bruce to their mutual completion. 16 Title: Hold Me Tight (or Don't) Word Count: 6055 Genre: Mystery, Angst, possible supernatural elements Fandom/Universe: Batman, no specific universe Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne, Talia al Ghul, Conner Kent, Jason Todd Warnings: Medical experiments, but non-graphic Rating: Teen Summary: Sometimes, a Family is you, your Beloved's dead kid in a coma, and your Beloved's best friend's "clone" who's other gene donor is sort-of kind-of your boss off to play at politics Or There’s been a rash of robberies in Gotham, leaving Batman puzzled as to what the villains are up to, all the while seeing Jason appear to him, even though he’s been dead for a few weeks. Meanwhile. Talia takes care of a comatose Jason, while discovering Lex’s secret project taking a form no one expected. On the other side of bay/river, Clark is investigating a mysterious Cadmus fire, under a building Lex Luthor (who is now the president) owns. 17 Title: untitled as of yet! Word Count: 3039 Genre: 5+1 things, fluff, probably eventual smut Fandom/Universe: dc extended universe, films 2013-present Characters/Pairings: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne Warnings: none Rating: T at the moment, will likely slide into M/E Summary: After a few months of working together side-by-side as a team while not actively trying to kill each other (even in their spare time), Clark realizes he’s developed Feelings for Bruce. He knows Bruce is stubborn and self-isolating, so he decides the best plan is to figure out a way to make things a little (incidentally) romantic without scaring off Bruce: little notes on rooftops, a dubiously agreed upon makeover by Lois, advice from Barry and Victor and Diana—even Alfred ends up in on the game. Unfortunately for Clark, Bruce is even more slippery (or oblivious) than he ever imagined. Maybe what Clark really needs is a little help from a Higher Authority… or, the five times Clark Kent tried (and failed) to seduce Bruce Wayne, and the one time Bruce Wayne allowed himself to be epically seduced.
18 Title: the weight of eventuality Word Count: 24,000 Genre: Romance, /Action, Drama Fandom/Universe: CWTV Flash (2014) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart, Team Flash Warnings: canon typical violence, graphic sex Rating: NC-17 Summary: Life was pretty great for Barry Allen, honestly. Team Flash successfully pulled him out of the Speed Force, he still had his job, and all of his friends and family where there to support him. Eddie and Iris were expecting their first child, and even with everything that happened between Caitlin and Julian, the team worked as well as ever together. Barry didn't want to tell them that he was still slipping backward and forward in time, or that every night the Speed Force made him witness the death of Leonard Snart. Rescuing Leonard was easy. Falling in love with him? not really part of the plan. With Captain Cold back in Central City, it was hard to remember that there were other people out there who wanted to do more than flirt and steal pretty jewelry. It was just a matter of time until they made their move. This story takes place mostly in Central City, with a detour into the Speed Force. There isn't really anything to warn for, I think. There's an explicit consensual sex scene near the end of the story, and canon typical violence and injury. There's some mention of minor medical procedures. There's technically some torture, but that happens off screen and Barry is in the speed force of the entirety of it, so there's no graphic detail.
19 Title: your continental divides Word Count: 9k Genre: Hurt/Comfort Fandom/Universe: DCU. not set in a specific universe, borrows from several continuities. Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson centric, Batfam and company, Gen Warnings: non-con Rating: PG-13 Summary: After Catalina Flores, Dick is dealing the way Bruce taught him: push it down and carry on. It's not working out very well, and people are starting to catch on. The story is set mostly in Gotham, and guests a few characters besides the batfam (mostly Wally and Roy). It's essentially just an exercise in letting Dick be comforted by the people who love him. This focuses on dealing with the sexual assault from Nightwing #93. The assault is not graphically depicted but is referenced and discussed, in addition to self-destructive behaviors and a variety of coping mechanisms.
20 Title: Broken Wings and Notched Arrows. Word Count: Around 6-6.5k total. 4,280 written Genre: Action, Romance, Drama. Fandom/Universe: Young Justice, Batman. Characters/Pairings: Will Harper (Roy Harper's clone)/ Jason Todd Warnings: Temporary Character death, mild language, mild violence, small age gape, Rating: NC-17 Summary: The only thing Will Harper wanted to be doing that fine winter morning was to play dress up with his beautiful daughter Lian. What he got however was a surprise visit from the legendary Bruce "Batman" Wayne. And if that wasn't a big enough shock being hired by said legend was icing on the cake. So now instead of spending Christmas with Lian Will is kind of, maybe being held against his will on Infinity Island. Bright side he did find Jason Todd like he was hired to. This story takes place in multiple locations. The main set is in the Caribbeans, mostly Infinity Island and the League of Assassins HQ. It also show cases Will's home in Star City and a major fight screen in Gotham. There is no major warnings. Temporary Character death as Jason Todd doesn't stay dead for long. Some violence but nothing more then a few short details of fight scenes. No gore just a little blood.
He's even hung up his red hood in an attempt to stay under the radar. When he discovers that Alfred is in danger from the gang he's investigating, he infiltrates a costume ball at Wayne Manor in disguise as a supervillain. He ends up flirting with Dick to stop him interfering with the rescue plan. Dick doesn't realise who he is and flirts back until they end up making out furiously in a closet. Afterwards neither of them can get the encounter out of their heads, and they start to get to know each other again. Happily married for more than five years with two perfect sons, they have everything they could possibly need. Unfortunately, good things don't last forever. Struck by a spell during a mission, Jason's mind has been scattered, putting him into a deep sleep and the only way to wake him up is for Dick to put his pieces back together. 23 Title: we just now got the feeling that we're meeting (for the first time) Word Count: Around 36K (34K written) Genre: Drama, Romance, Fluff, Angst Fandom/Universe: Superman and Batman, DCEU canon/movie canon Characters/Pairings: Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne; Lex Luthor, Diana Prince, Barry Allen, Arthur Curry, Victor Stone Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Rating: Teen Summary: While fighting Lex Luthor for his latest weapon, a time weapon, Bruce Wayne gets hit and sent back twenty years into the past. Meeting Clark Kent on some snowy mountain side in Alaska was not exactly what Bruce thought would happen, but he’s here now and there’s nothing for him to do except wait for his team to pull him back to the future. Unfortunately, he doesn’t quite know when that will be, so sticking with Clark is his best option. Of course, it would be much easier if Bruce wasn’t already pining for Clark in the future. How long until Bruce is pulled back into the future, and will he be able to stop himself from falling in love with Clark Kent in the past and potentially creating a time paradox? This story is set in a couple of locations. Most of it is set in the past in Alaska during the beginning of Clark’s pilgrimage, specifically in the Denali National Park. Other locations include the Wayne-Turned-League Manor, Bruce’s Lake-House in Gotham city, and the lake itself! Primarily it involves young versions of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, although the very beginning section and at the last few parts of the end is focused on the present/older versions of them. There are no Archive Warnings that apply to this story. It is mainly an excuse to just write cute scenes of Bruce and Clark falling in love in the snow with the added bit of dealing with time travel, with a lot of focus on Bruce Wayne's character! The most rated this story goes is the occasional swear word.
26 Title: Make an Ass of U and Me Word Count: probably 10k-12k (6k written) Genre: Romance, Comedy Fandom/Universe: DCEU Characters/Pairings: Clark/Bruce, Dick&Bruce Warnings: sort of assumed incest, but no actual incest Rating: Teen Summary: Bruce neglects to tell the newly formed Justice League that he has a son, because he and Dick aren't talking to each other . Until they suddenly are. Unfortunately, he doesn't clarify who exactly Dick is to him, so Clark gets the wrong impression. Or: Five times Clark thought Dick was Bruce's boyfriend, and the one time he found out the truth. Contains lots of unfounded jealousy, misunderstandings, Dick being delightful, and Clark being a mess. Lots of domestic settings, mostly around the lake house and the batcave, with the exception of one battle scene.
27 Title: Honey Trap Word Count: 7.7k Genre: Porn-with-plot, crime/modern AU Fandom/Universe: DCU (Comics) Characters/Pairings: Slade Wilson/Jason Todd, Dick Grayson Warnings: Consent issues (consent is there on both sides, but dubious on one side due to situation), manipulation, some BDSM-style kink Rating: NC17 Summary: Slade's used to dealing with informants. Most get caught in the screening process before they ever get a hold of anything useful, but this one, 'Jason Todd,' gets as far as working in the lower ranks of his organization before Billy drops the file on his desk. Another attempt at an undercover CI from Detective Grayson, this time just some random arrested civilian, instead of a fellow officer. Billy would prefer that he throw him out now, but Todd's not bad looking, and Slade likes the idea of ruining this plant just like he ruined the last one. Modern AU, no-capes. Aside from sex scenes, one character is primarily in part/all of a suit throughout scenes. As Slade is aware from the start that Jason's a plant, the sex has some consent issues. Jason is doing it partly to ingratiate himself, and Slade absolutely manipulates him into it. However, Jason enjoys/consents to everything that happens, it's only the situation that's sketchy.
28 Title: Don't Let Your Yearnings Get Ahead of Your Earnings Word Count: 7.2k Genre: Western, technically Romance Fandom/Universe: DCU (Comics) Characters/Pairings: Slade Wilson/Jason Todd Warnings: Some non-consensual touching, non-sexual Rating: PG-13 Summary: Slade Wilson is a bounty hunter, one of the best in the business. The contracts that specify 'alive and unharmed' are rarer, but usually worth the extra bonus that comes with. This one is definitely not. Jason Todd was supposed to be just another young outlaw with more balls than brains, not a slippery sharpshooter who Slade would have to chase halfway to the next town. And just to add to everything, he still has to get the damned boy all the way back. That's going to be fun. Western AU with bounty-hunter Slade and an outlaw-ish Jason. Most of the story is traveling, but there will be an inside-mansion scene near the end with Roman Sionis. No real warnings for this. There's some brief non-consensual touching of intimate bits, but it's entirely non-sexual.
29 Title: [insert song lyric here] Word Count: 8084 Genre: It's a slowburn at its core, with action and drama mixed in Fandom/Universe: DCAU's Justice League/Unlimited Characters/Pairings: Bruce Wayne/Wally West, Shayera Hol, J'onn J'onzz, John Stewart, Diana, Clark Kent Warnings: human trafficking, threat of dub/non-con, language, sexual themes Rating: R Summary: Ever since their run in with the Justice Lords, Flash and Batman reached a new stage in their teammates-but-not-quite-friendship. The only problem is Flash is the only one who seems to think that, so he decides to see how far he can push at Batman's annoyance level before the Bat snaps at him. Unfortunately for Flash, their job keeps getting in the way, including but not limited to stumbling upon a human trafficking ring and a worldwide invasion. When the dust settles, Flash finds himself wanting more from the man under the cowl, and the harder Batman pulls away, the harder Flash is drawn to the man and his elusiveness. The Fastest Man Alive needs to rely on his patience if he wants to get anywhere in his quest. This story takes place throughout the entirety of DCAU's Justice League as well as the first two seasons of Justice League Unlimited, with the main locations being the Watchtower and Wayne Manor. The human trafficking and threat of dub/non-con are contained to two scenes in which a main character falls into trouble, but nothing too graphic occurs. Still, the subject matter isn't everyone's cup of tea. The R rating is just to be extra safe.
30 Title: Anachronistic Crises Crossover Word Count: 8k Genre: Gen, Crossover, Fluff Fandom/Universe: Red Robin, Batman- All Media Types, DC Comics Characters/Pairings: Jason Todd (Post Crisis),Tim Drake, Jason "Jay" Todd (Pre-Crisis)/Rena(Pre- crisis), Jason "Jay" Todd (Pre-Crisis), Rena(Pre- crisis) Warnings: Period Typical homophobia, possible inclusions of bad mental health care later Rating: T (just to be safe) Summary: Coming off of the Search for Ray Palmer, Jason Todd reconciled with his family. Just in time for Batman's apparent death. After an international adventure that led them to finding the batman, said batman in his Hyper-Adapter crazed state seemingly vaporized them with Omega Energy. Jason and Tim wake up to find themselves stranded in Gotham, New Jersey where its somehow the April of 1986. Tim takes the lead and stalks a young person also named Jason Todd- who is very unlike the one he knows. The Alfred Pennyworth with him seems similar enough though. In there efforts to observe this world's Bat-family Tim ends up having to go to high school again- where the shear amount of brightly colored clothes that are either skin tight or falling off makes him want to claw his eyes out. Jason is comparatively having a much better time as a librarian in the Gotham Public Library to fund their tiny studio apartment with money that doesn't look fake for the time period. Night work continues as well, with Red Hood and the vigilante named by the media as "Shrike". Their quick and calculated moves on the Gotham drug trade lead them to colliding first with this world's Robin. Jason alone is confronted by the Batman, and nearly has a panic attack though Tim will never be privy to that information. Gotham is a not as insane back drop of retro-not-so-chic. Jason enjoys the small pleasures of being legally alive and having a job. Tim doesn't cope well without all his compact gadgetry and hates school- but likes the closeted lesbian couple he meets. A budding bat-detective trying to figure out who these new and weird people are, and who these new sci-fi like vigilantes are. Will the people back home in Tim and Jason's Gotham ever succeed in getting them home? The entire fic takes place in either version of Gotham, with the exception of the Watchtower being there for like 5 minutes. Post-Crisis Gotham features locations like Oracle's clock-tower Jason is wearing his Under the Red Hood costume, Tim cosplays as knock off Midnighter (red robin), Bruce has blue accents and trunks, and Robin-Jay makes Jason re-live cold nights in hot-pants and pixie boots.
31 Title: Batsons Be Crazy Word Count: 11,169 words Genre: Fluff With Plot Fandom/Universe: Batfam + Shazam basically DCU leaning towards the comics Characters/Pairings: Damian Wayne/Billy Batson Warnings: None Apply Rating: Teen Summary: The story takes place over a year, a year of Billy and Damian teaming up, falling in love, and meeting family. Damian has never liked anyone before, while Billy sees the best in everyone and will fall in love at the drop of a hat. Their romance isn't a crazy one, it's one built off of trust, comfort, and most importantly, a love of animals. Their romance brings them to many places, including Canada, Dick Grayson's apartment, and the dinner table in the manor. No warning apply except maybe underage because Damian is 17 when he begins to peruse Billy as a romantic interest, but doesn't start seeing him until he's 18.
32 Title: The Past Still Ties You Down Word Count: 7k Genre: Angst, Romance Fandom/Universe: The Flash (TV) Characters/Pairings: Barry Allen/Leonard Snart Warnings: implied/referenced violence and abuse, alcohol abuse Rating: NC-17 Summary: On another earth, Barry falls in love with the most hated man in Central City - mob boss Leonard Snart. Only, Central doesn’t know Len like he does. They didn’t grow up with him like Barry did, sleeping in the bed above him, patching up his wounds and crawling under the covers with him when his bullies had been especially cruel. Even as the years go by - where Len is no longer a teenage boy forced into a life he didn't choose and Barry is no longer the child still grieving his mother while hating the father who killed her - they can't seem to let go of each other. Set in multiple locations in Central City, including a foster home, hospital, and the West house. The violence and abuse are not actually shown, but the aftermath is (ie. patching up wounds, some blood, some discussion of specific actions after the fact).
33 Title: Unfortunate Souls Word Count: around 8-9k total, 4958 written Genre: Dark Fairy Tale Fandom/Universe: Batman, Batfamily Characters/Pairings: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd, Jason Todd/Slade Wilson, Dick Grayson/Slade Wilson, Dick Grayson/Jason Todd/Slade Wilson Warnings: dub con (may have a bad ending that pushes it into non con) Rating: Explicit, NC-17 Summary: Based off of The Little Mermaid (Disney film mixed with aspects of the original fairy tale) as well as fandom-type Mer AU’s. With red-headed Jason taking the part of Ariel, Dick as Prince Eric, and Slade as Ursula. Jason, adopted prince of King Bruce’s underwater kingdom, is fascinated by all things human. One night, while stargazing on the surface, he decides to follow a ship out of curiosity. On the ship is a handsome human prince who steals his heart. After an accident, Jason risks his life to save the human, which puts him at odds with Bruce. After inadvertently challenging Bruce during an argument about his ‘hobby’, Jason flees the realm and accepts the offer of octo-mer Deathstroke, a one-time rival of Bruce’s, to turn him human. But Slade’s intentions are murky and hidden. He wants Bruce’s throne, his son, and if he gets a human pet out of the deal, that’s just one more trophy to show that he is the stronger Mer. The story is set in the underwater mer kingdom ruled by Bruce; Slade’s underwater lair; and the idyllic land kingdom of Bludhaven, ruled by Price Richard. I haven’t decided whether I want a happy ending, like the film, where Jason and Dick ride off into the sunset or a bad ending where Slade gets everything he wants. If happy, there will be some dub con between Jason and Slade when they make the agreement and later when Slade is using magic to enthrall Dick. If I go with the bad ending, there will likely be some non con.
It’s easy to forget, even for Clark. That being an alien means more than his powers. There are traits rooted into the DNA, coming out in the subconscious, until not even Clark notices. Kryptonians, among other things, build Bowers for their mates, beautiful homes to settle into. It’s more than a tradition, it’s a way of life. When Clark begins to redecorate, he doesn't know why it matters so much to him. And why it hurts so badly when Bruce doesn’t even care.
