cursed child was the worst thing that happened to fans of the next gen we were thriving in clueless headcanons and random pairings and friendships but now we have to deal with this mess of a play that feels like an ai mash up of early hp fanfiction from people who hadn't opened the books in over five years and don't remember any details please i just want to get one good characterization of these kids what happened to good fanfiction and why did they get so unpopular after cc they used to be all i ever read and now i need like three hours and expert tag manipulation on ao3 to find something that is barely decent

Why do people give Harry more Black family storylines than Draco?!
It's hard being a Draco fan...well a canon Draco fan. If you want great fics that explore his character, you have to deal with a bunch of Drarry and sometimes Dramione. That's not even factoring in how OOC Draco is in so many of these fics. That's why I partly gave up on Drarry fics. It's almost impossible to find a good Draco fic that does not involve him shagging someone in the golden trio.
But this post was inspired by posts by Snaters and/or Dumbles antis who claim Harry should have named his son after Regulus. Here are my grievances:
There needs to be more exploration of DRACO as the Black heir
I don't know how Siri was able to keep his fortune when he was supposedly disowned but it's very frustrating seeing fics where Harry is the Black heir and becomes Lord Black. Just stop and think for a moment. Draco is literally the only pureblood Black offspring left! The Black line is basically extinct! And if you factor in Drastoria, Draco was willing to let his maternal AND paternal lines fade away! The only time Draco's Black heritage seems to be brought up is in fics where abusive Lucius disowns him. It's just sad. Harry is NOT a Black! As much as I love Godfather!Sirius, part of me is disgusted that Harry inherited Grimmauld's place. That house should belong to Narcissa and Draco and I don't care if I am the only one on this hill.
More Regulus & Draco, please!
People seem to prefer to write a relationship with Reggie and Harry. Which makes a bit of sense...but wouldn't it be more interesting to explore Draco & Reggie?? Draco and Regulus are family and they share quite a few similarities. I have seen some fics where Narcissa is so protective of DE!Draco because she sees him as a second chance after she failed Reggie. Or I have seen some fics where Regulus lives but so many of those center on Harry and Draco is lucky to be an afterthought. Why is Draco so divorced from his Black family? There's hardly any exploration with Draco & Sirius either. I don't even recall Draco expressing any feelings about Sirius as a family member in book 3 when the dude is his cousin! Draco, Harry's rival, is related to his beloved godfather and NOTHING is done with this! Like WTH!!!
The positive side!
At least there are incredible fics out there that explore Draco's relationship with Andy and the Tonks family. I love Dora being Draco's surrogate big sister 🤩. So cute!!! I also like the Tonks family being involved in Draco's redemption and Ted being so fatherly towards Draco. Chef's kiss. Please, let Draco interact with his family 😞! Why is JKR so against Draco having a family?! Even his damn wife dies in CC!!! He only has one kid! Please, give this man an extended family!

10 Fanfictions that Characterised Rose Weasley Better than the Cursed Child
1. Four Times Rose Weasley Woke Up In Places Other Than Her Bed - Maybe the best Rose Weasley written out there (take notes Jack Thorne). Rose’s narration is absolutely brilliant due to her relativity and funniness. There are so many embarrassing things she does and you just cringe for her. And I am happy that the writer did not write her as a perfect human who is beautiful and poised all the time. Despite this, Rose IS a very endearing person although she pretends to be tough around Scorpius. She is definitely her own person and her love life doesn't define her as she is focused on her career and dreams. And can we appreciate badass Rose Weasley kicking ass in the Quidditch field? Yes please!
2. This Is(n't) Acting - This fan fiction is so beautiful (SOBS). I think one of the reasons why the relationship is so beautiful is because Rose brings the best out of Scorpius. She was extremely awkward, but had a kind and caring heart. While she was self-conscious, she also seemed to value herself and didn't let anyone treat her like shit. One of the reasons why I loved Rose was because she was imperfect. She had heaps of embarrassing moments, can be impulsive, had a temper and made plenty of mistakes. Nonetheless, her affectionate nature and character development is enough for you to fall in love with her, very much like Scorpius did.
3. Solitary Confinement - You must be wondering...why am I putting a smut fan fiction on this list? Other than this being one of the best Scorose smut fan fictions ever, Rose’s character was full of energy and spark. She is passionate, she is courageous and she is not afraid to get what she wants (intimate time with Scorpius). Under her feisty attitude, she has a compassionate heart and does what she thinks is right, despite the consequences. She won't sit back and see Muggles suffering. I appreciated her sense of justice, which is a trait that she would undoubtedly have.
4. The Thing (that is by no means a relationship) - One thing I like about Rose in Graeliars’ stories is that she is very blunt and direct with people and her own internal monologues. Which provides so much comedy and makes you appreciate her character. She is incredibly authentic, vivacious, adventurous and kind-hearted. These are all the qualities Rose would undoubtedly have. I also love the relationship she has with Scorpius! It is so sweet and fluffy (with smut)
5. Adverse Side Effects - Ugh, this story gives me all the feels!! This story is from Scorpius’ point of view so you see how he falls for Rose over the course of the story. One thing that is for certain is that Rose’s loving nature, bravery and kindness is positively influencing Scorpius’ life. She definitely has Hermione’s intelligent, dedicated and sensible nature as well as Ron’s wisecracking humour and loyalty. She treats everyone around her with kindness, is dedicated and she is sassy as hell.  The dialogue between Scorpius and Rose is some of the best I’ve ever read as well (and the story is romantic as hell too)
6. One of the Boys - Yes, Rose is “not like other girls” here. While I am not fond of this trope, Rose’s character retained energy and charisma nonetheless. I really liked the male friendships she had as it provided enough banter and laughter. Despite that she was a tomboy, she had relatively good relationships with her female cousins, which I liked. She also learns to appreciate femininity in some regard and pleased herself. I am sick of fanfictions where Rose is Hermione’s clone and has none of Ron’s characteristics. In this fan fiction, she was definitely Ron’s daughter as she was funny and was not afraid to let loose.
7. Before Malfoy Had It Going -  (The author of the story deleted bot of her stories but she said she was planning on updating them. So I linked her profile @weasleykingrocks )The prequel to Malfoy's Got It Going (so when she was a teenager). I think she is the perfect combination of Ron and Hermione. She is funny, loves Quidditch and is sarcastic whilst being a perfectionist and overachiever. One thing I appreciated is Rose’s constant need to live up to her parents. Yes, Ron and Hermione are awesome, but it would be hard for their daughter being compared to their hero status. Thus, you feel awful for her as she is drowning in negativity and self-doubt. Her relationship with Albus and Scorpius is special, as you could see her imperfections and love for others.
8. Malfoy’s Got It Going - Rose is the perfect combination of Ron and Hermione. She is friendly and charming, but is stern and tough when life is difficult. She is funny and playful but she is emotional and hot-tempered. She is intelligent and sweet, but she can be argumentative and judgemental. One thing that the writer was able to pull off well was her charisma and why many of the people around her were drawn to her. She has a heart of gold and her relationship with Scorpius and Albus is beautifully written. Despite this, Rose is not morally perfect and is capable of doing awful things. As we see, she does certain things that are definitely problematic, which allows character development.
9. Art and Alchemy - @languidbones In most Scorose fan fictions, Rose is written as a popular, sassy and fierce Gryffindor who intensely plays Quidditch and studies all the time. Rose in this fan fiction is completely different from anything I've ever read. She’s a quirky Hufflepuff who has no interest in studying or Quidditch and spends all her free time painting. I’ve become so comfortable with Gryffindor Rose who is academically competitive, a Quidditch star and has a feisty personality. This Rose is absolutely adorable, creative, endearing and she will make your heart melt.
10. Bouquet of Scandals - @languidbones Believe me when I tell you that this fan fiction has made me laugh, cry, gush, smile, scream and everything in between. Partly because of Rose’s fascinating and unique character. She has her undivided attention to magical creatures, her pygmy puff and classical music. She isn’t interested in studying, Quidditch, or dating, until she spends time with Scorpius. The fan fiction is utterly beautiful and captivating, with a Rose Weasley who is so loveable and you don’t question why half the boys in her school fall in love with her. It’s best if you just jump to it and read the whole thing. I hope the author writes more!

Nooooooo! This gives me so many feels. And the fact that such a good and wholesome moment ends with such tragedy, partly because of how good and honorable both Harry and Cedric are, is heartbreaking.
Also the writers (if we can even call them that) of Cursed Child trying to say that Cedric would become a Death Eater if he lost the cup is ridiculous. What slander.

Just tried reading cursed child and wanted to see if it was actually as bad as everyone was leading on…
It was.
it was so crappy, I couldn’t get past it. not in any universe would harry james potter, even out of anger, tell his son he wishes he wasn’t his son. not in any universe. I know I maybe shouldn’t be that mad about it but I am. whoever said that was not harry potter, I don’t know who that was, that ain’t my hero.
the real harry potter would have loved his son unconditionally, it doesn’t matter what house he’s in. yes, i know harry loved him deep down, but the whole relationship with albus and harry was not at all how it would have been, given the things we were given in the books before cursed child.
don’t even get me started on how stupid it was to just kill of astoria. that’s a different post.
the only thing i will take from cursed child is albus being in slytherin. that’s it.
phew okay, I’m done ranting :). I wanna know what you guys think of cursed child. <3

Do you have any opinions about next gen hp? Either how the parents are now or the kids?
I don't have a ton of opinions about the next gen hp, mostly because I don't like what JKR chose to do with post-canon, and I absolutely despise the Cursed Child, so I tend to ignore anything outside of the 7 books. But since you asked, I thought about it, and...
I Headcanon That:
Molly & Lucy are identical twins
Bill & Fleur and Harry & Ginny eventually got divorced
Percy & Audrey never got married - she got pregnant while they were dating but they decided not to stay together and just co-parent the girls, and they are still good friends
Fred II is quiet, reserved, and academically smart
The only kids that were sorted into Gryffindor were James, Rose, Molly, Lucy, and Roxanne
Charlie is aro-ace
Percy stopped working at the Ministry of Magic
Roxanne is the best Quidditch player out of all the cousins
Hugo & Lily team up to play pranks on their older siblings/cousins, because they are the youngest Weasleys
Dominique is non-binary
Louis plays the piano really well
All the parents needed therapy, but only some of them went (Bill, Hermione, and Harry were too stubborn or in denial)
Thanks for the ask! 😊

Me: Inhales deeply
Time-turners were destroyed in both the 3rd and 5th book so I don't know how the girl (Delphini) is able to turn back time in order to prevent her father's (Voldemort) death in the second Wizarding World War.
I try not to be overly critical, but the entire series contradicts the Cursed Child screenplay.
And Delphini is supposed to the secret love child between Bella and Voldemort but she's trapezing all around London with the brightest blonde and blue hair, dressed as a Muggle which by Wizarding Society standards would stick out like a Wizard wearing Wizard robes at a Walmart

I can't believe the O'Connells & Ben and Kai were the only ones to avoid the shitty parents trope.

I tried reading the Cursed Child and I honestly can't find it in myself to take it seriously or even believe it's canon. Every plotline is ridiculous and makes no sense, the characters are all so incredibly ooc, it flies in the face of consistent storytelling, many important things in the main series were suddenly retconned here, and it wasn't even written by Rowling. The whole thing just read like a really bad fanfiction. Why do some people take it seriously?
Even keeping in mind that it's written as a play not a novel, it's still incomprehensible and boring.

What would you say are your more controversial opinions about the hp characters?
ohhhh okayyy. i feel like my opinions on a lot of the characters aren’t controversial because i dont feel super strongly towards anyone in any negative light but here are some i could think of at the top of my head:
i’m glad the malfoys faced more extreme backlash after the second wizarding war. a lot of people in the fandom seem to be very sympathetic towards draco and scorpius for getting dogpiled with the brunt of it (which yeah, it sucks, especially for scorpius) but the prejudice makes complete make sense to me. if i was someone who didn’t know scorpius’ character, and had someone from my family get killed in the second war due to death eaters or something— seeing the malfoys still be wealthy and walk around freely without any jailtime, i would be bitter too. they’re hated on but they’re still one of the richest families ever, so they’ll live LOL
another anon has asked about this and i haven’t responded to them yet but when i do i will link it here for my reasons. basically: the best character in the cursed child is harry potter. i think the way they wrote his character and ptsd carried the play. it was def his story, not albus’.
i do think dumbledore has some aspects of him that may be considered morally gray, but mostly i dont think he is. he does everything for the good of the world, and his complete selflessness leads him to sacrifice anything for it— even himself and the people he loves, when necessary. i completely understand why people wouldn’t agree with his methods though.
james potter isn’t a sunshine character he’s a dickhead. fans of him made him a golden retriever character to be more palatable for modern times. i like him the way he is: an asshole and then less of an asshole 👍 this is what true stanning looks like
pansy parkinson is racist and out of all the female side characters, developing HER is so questionable from fandom
harry had questionable descriptions about a lot of male characters to make people think he could be a little 🏳️‍🌈 there was bill, there was sirius, there was cedric. but draco is not a part of that list. harry was not feeling draco whatsoever throughout the series but drarry shippers cling to that one ‘obsessed’ line
furthermore, harry rejecting draco’s offer of friendship wasn’t a sad or a ‘what if’ scene. draco was being a classist piece of shit and harry didnt want to fuck with that, there isnt any way in any timeline he wouldve accepted draco’s friendship.
slytherin sucks just generally lol. people want so bad to pluck anti-heroes out of a series that was written specifically with the mind to make all the characters suck.
hermione and ron’s drama isn’t as toxic as people make it out to be. yes, this includes the time hermione sent birds after him. people act like its the end of the world but she was tackling puberty and the end of society soooo i give her a pass to tweak out.
mostly every harry potter character has horrific names. like literally mostly everyone. even the name harry potter 🙁
movie romione wasn’t that bad LOL
severus snape’s ‘redemption’ or whatever was so ass. he bullies kids for five years and then everything is chill because… true love? on harry’s mum? are you kidding me 💀
weasley family angst goes hard but people (especially percy stans and some ron&ginny stans) acting like they’re the most toxic family to walk the earth make me want to rip my hair out and eat it. molly loves her kids guys shes not evil. jesus.
genuinely trying to think of more but i can’t right now…. maybe i will reblog and add to it. i feel like most of my opinions aren’t that controversial though 😭

If you had to pick a candidate for next Dark Lord/Lady post hp canon, who would it be (pretend Voldemort's lovechild doesn't exist).
Beautifully, anon, I would not have picked Delphi had you asked me and after having read the play think it's remarkably in character and a likely contender for what happens post canon.
But that's too hot a take even for this blog.
Delphi's not really Dark Lord/Lady material, she's just... a very troubled mess.
So, with her off the table, who do I pick?
There's always Hermione abusing her power, though I doubt she'd ever be labeled as Dark Lady for doing as much even though it's essentially what she's doing.
Harry's off the table as while he has a very warped sense of justice and the law that enables things like becoming a Dark Lord, I don't see him ever rising above abusing his position as head Auror/however far he makes it up the chain. He would never set himself in a position to have power over the country as a whole/where people would ever call him Lord.
I think I'm going to pick the ever-delightful Albus Severus Potter.
Taking Cursed Child into account (which I will do because I can), Albus grows up with a very large chip on his shoulder in regards to his father and his perception of himself. He believes himself to be the family disappointment in Slytherin, resents both his older brother and his younger sister for more easily being what his father wanted, and proves he's willing to go to terrifying extremes to one-up his father. And while things do work out in the end for him, and he and his father at least try to reconcile, I'm not convinced Albus has actually learned the lessons he need to.
Albus is one of those that will live his life punishing his father, and there is a path for him where the best way to do that is to spit in the face of all of Harry's ideals and become the Dark Lord Harry can't defeat. Then Harry will be sorry.
The other candidate is the ever-delightful Scorpius Malfoy, though he's an honorable mention. See, Scorpius wouldn't actually become a Dark Lord. Everyone would think he's a Dark Lord because everyone thinks he's Voldemort's bastard child thanks to an unfortunate rumor about his mother. Scorpius in no way acts like a Dark Lord, but finds himself increasingly persecuted because the Aurors and the Government believe he is. Albus then goes off the rail and does activities Scorpius ends up blamed for.
Scorpius cries.

The only change NFCV made to canon that I like, dare I say even more than canon, is Hector killing his own parents rather than the fire apparently being caused by demons. It doesn't go anywhere in N!Hector's case (at the end of S3 he looks angrily into the fireplace, but sadly he doesn't set Carmilla and Lenore on fire, what a missed opportunity of poetic cinema), but this change would work splendidly in Hector's case.
Tumblr media
Imagine. Baby Hector is tormented by demons day and night, who keep whispering in his ear that he doesn't deserve this treatment, and he should just kill everyone, because they should suffer the same pain they put him through, it's only fair. Hector is scared that one day he'll do something "bad", but he can't talk about anyone about these voices, everyone hates him enough and they think he's a weirdo when he stares into nothing, assaulted by vision and voices.
Then, one day, he returns home from his games with the animals… only to see that his mother killed his black kitten. His best friend in the world. "It's cursed, it brings us bad luck, as if you weren't enough." Father, of course, couldn't care less about anything: he never even noticed that his son went around with a cat in his arms, but even if it's dead, so what? It's only an animal. Nothing important, the kid should grow up already.
And Hector snaps. He agrees with the demons, for once. They do deserve to die for hating him so much. So he sets the house on fire, and enjoys his parents' screams, who don't sound too different from the demons screeching in his ear.
But then he returns to his senses, and he's horrified at what he has done, and he has no choice but to flee. He doesn't know where to go, so once again, he listens to the demons guiding him to Dracula's place. After all, he can't blame them for doing something horrible, can he? He was the one who killed his parents and enjoyed it. He really is a horrible creature. At least they care about him.
And there everyone, the demons, Dracula, Isaac, all tell him that he did the right thing, that it's alright to kill those who hurt you, and thanks to that action he saved himself and he found his true home.
And this is how Hector got desensitized to killing… but only those he believes deserve death 🙂 like the mob who executed Lisa, or Isaac when he orchestrated Rosaly's death. But not mankind as a whole.

Scorpius and Rose's dynamic would be like James and Lily's, except Scorpius isn't an arrogant bully and would try his best to get along with Rose's friends because he knows how important they are to her and he really wishes to be part of her life in any way possible.
Oh, and he'll respect her boundaries. If she asks him to leave, he will. If she rejects him, he'll accept it. But until that rejection comes, he'll keep asking her out and trying to win her heart (and gladly welcoming any hexes and curses she throws his way)
Rose wouldn't ever date someone that her friends and family don't aprove of. If he doesn't get along with her loved ones, he's done for.

"don’t even get me started on how stupid it was to just kill of astoria. that’s a different post" hello, I would like to get you started and read that different post if you feel like writing it 👀
hahahahaha okayyy!!!
the relationship between draco and astoria was obviously shocking considering no one thought anyone could actually want to marry draco and have kids with him, but as i started to see it more in fics, i realized just how good the relationship is.
warning: all this is my head canons but…are they?
the thought that someone was there for Draco through a hard part of his life and while he was torn up after the war is so comforting. I’m not that big of a Draco fan, but I know the war affected him as much as it did everyone else. I’m so glad he found someone that he could love and be loved by them too!!
now, on to the main point, killing off astoria looked like it was just out of boredom. draco was finally happy after so long and had the most amazing family and scorpius was a happy, sunshine-y kid who was also so happy and then all of a sudden she dies and everything becomes gloomy. it was like a stab in the chest. when you finally think that no one’s in danger of dying because the war is over and your so happy, then the source of your happiness is taken away from you. wow, that hurt.
it was pointless, hurtful and poorly written. and that could be said about the whole book.
so lets forget about cursed child and say that right now, draco and astoria are very happy together, with their amazing, adorable son and BOTH of them are watching him grow up.
okay, I’m done :).
