In hindsight, perhaps breaking into a magistrate’s office in broad daylight wasn’t Vi brightest idea.

The Noxian soldiers chasing them are hot on their heels, all of them big and ugly and incredibly willing – no, eager – to send a sword through their gut. Vi risks a glance back and makes eye contact with one particularly brutish man, the glare on his square face deepening as he catches her looking.

Vi quickly looks forward again and forces herself to run faster.

“Powder,” she calls out. “I am going to kill your girlfriend!”

“It’s not her fault she got the times wrong!” Powder gasps out to her left. “She said her source was trustworthy!”

Vi leans to the left just as a knife whizzes past her head, barely nicking her ear. “Well obviously she was wrong!”

Representation is so, so important. As a young kid, I had no idea you could... well, be gay! The older I got, the more I learned to associate it with negativity. Growing up in a small town in the Bible belt, it was the worst thing you could be called at school. I got called several slurs growing up, even though at that point I only showed interest in boys. By junior high, I remember reading an interview with Mark Hoppus about marriage equality, and that was the first time I remember being gay as something positive. By high school, I had friends who were openly gay and I didn't think anything of it. I remember being conflicted at the time, because people at my church were homophobic but I was becoming more and more understanding of it.

All of this being said, I didn't even know what being bi was. Well, I knew what it was, but I was told by other ignorant folks that bi people were just "on their way" to being gay. I felt so conflicted because I was primarily attracted to men, but I was ashamed of being attracted to women sometimes as well. I thought being bi was 50/50, and that wasn't me. And internalized homophobia made me ashamed and confused.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID: Last summer things really ramped up. And the more I'm learning, the more I'm realizing things aren't black and white, like I was told growing up. I still don't know what I identify as, but I guess I'm just officially saying I'm not straight. Maybe questioning things still?? Maybe next year I'll understand even more. After all, I'm learning more about myself all the time :)
