Truly, there is nothing exactly like the sheer level of “did we even read the same book/watch the same thing” that one feels when met with the reaction “Ewww but they’re BROTHERS” about a ship where it’s actually a plot point of pretty critical importance that A., they *AREN’T* brothers by either blood or adoption, and B., there IS NO FORMAL DEFINITION for their relationship status within their sociocultural context but whatever they are, it sure does inspire people to call them “childhood sweethearts” in a way that’s loaded with romantic innuendo and act like Character B is Character A’s ex (full romo) vs. Character A’s endgame marriage to Character C

Why do you like jiang cheng?
At the risk of liking him for the wrong reasons, let me be verbose and annoying about it.
A short anecdote: I finished the donghua before the novel and I liked JC's aesthetic so I was happy to have that imagery in my head for the novel, but mostly I came out of the donghua like "cool story, the ending was frowny face though" and I came out of the novel like I was lost in the IKEA store "there's stuff here but it's not what I want and it's organized in a way that's hard to navigate through." Bit like giving me a puzzle to solve.
Anyway, imagine a cat bapping at a thing trying to get fandom to show me what to do with MDZS (i.e. reading fanfic) and then I come across anti-Jiang Cheng stuff.
//record scratch
I'm sorry what?
Why?
NO.
I started then on Shuangjie reconciliation fic and quickly evolved into Jiang Cheng "Apologist" ((I actually don't think he has anything to apologize for even if he would do so anyway.))
I've been in the xianxia/wuxia sphere of media consumption for a year or so before trying out MDZS and JC just fits so well as the main character of his own story; destined for a position of power through birth, friends with someone in his life that causes conflict, seemingly betrayed by said friend when needing that friend the most, losing and losing and losing as his trust in said friend proves unfounded because the friend walks a path he can't follow, and then he's left with the tragedy that befell the world because--ultimately he trusted this friend too much.
It's a classic story of love and attachment and how good intentions can have massive consequences. Two men entwined by fate and in the end there's a battle on a hill (off screen in this case) where one is forced to "kill" the other.
MDZS could have ended with the past timeline, and I would have liked it more but at least in the present timeline we get Jiujiu and a-Ling.
Anyway: Excerpts and Commentary Below about WHY I LOVE JIANG CHENG, courtesy WANYIN

Of all the clans to offend, you don’t offend the Jiang Clan, and of all the people to offend, you never offend Jiang Cheng.
We stand by a badass mf in this house. The first thing we learn is that he gets credit for killing a big baddy and the second thing we learn is how fierce the rest of his reputation is. He brooks no shit and leaves no quarter. Amazing 💜
Well, I was done for at "gaze like two streaks of cold lightning" so RIP me, I guess. Reminds me of some antis that are like "you only like him because he's hot" which isn't true but it is a nice plus. He's described as inferior to LWJ so like, if it was only about hotness then wouldn't I like LWJ???
“I am his uncle. Do you have any last words?”
At the sound of that voice, every drop of blood in Wei Wuxian’s body seemed to surge to his head but then immediately drained away again. Thankfully, his face was already a mess of ghastly white, so it didn’t look strange when he went a little paler.
A man in purple attire strode over. He was dressed in a narrow-sleeved light robe, with his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. A silver bell dangled from his waist, yet there was no sound when he walked.
This young man had fine brows and almond eyes, with a chiseled handsomeness to his features. His eyes were deep and intense with a hint of aggression, his gaze like two streaks of cold lightning. He stopped and stood three meters away from Wei Wuxian. His expression was like that of a nocked arrow on a bow, ready to shoot, and even his composure was suffused with arrogant pride.
Jiang Cheng ruled the Jiang Clan of Yunmeng alone, so it could have been said that he was in a state of isolation.
🥺 Alone?? And he could still afford 400 Immortal Binding Nets? Self-sufficient king 🤩 And like, his reputation is so fierce and he's boiling over with anger in that scene, but still he restrains himself because he did the cost-benefit analysis! And then later he takes a huge risk on WWX, like he always does for WWX, and that doesn't work out for him--like it always does.
Seeing that nothing had happened to Jin Ling, Jiang Cheng was greatly relieved. However, that relief soon turned into a furious reprimand:
Parent behavior. Enough said.
He has a twisted smile when encountering a trigger for his PTSD and then he decides to fight it instead of letting it paralyze him. He's such a doer. Like, every other moment of the day he's carefully calculating pluses and minuses to every choice (valid) but when it comes to facing his personal demons he's ready to throw down. Excellent.
A moment later, Jiang Cheng’s lips pulled into a twisted smile. His left hand subconsciously began stroking that ring once more.
He said softly, “Excellent. Back, are you?”
He let go of his left hand, and a long whip dangled from it.
“Oh? Then please enlighten me, what is your type?”
Walking A-Spec flag very concerned about what the man who might be his shixiong thinks about him, more at eleven!
Wei Wuxian waved him off and then hooked his arm around Jiang Cheng’s shoulders. “Who cares? I’ll tease him a bit more before I go. You’ve already collected my corpse so many times. Once more won’t hurt.”
Okay but big lol that JC doesn't get to collect WWX's corpse that final time. //sounds of sobbing
A smile appeared on his face, but then he immediately humphed.
He's so grumpy and adorable! I love him! pre massacre JC is precious and I just want him to have someone to bring out that smile again.
He literally didn't have to do this. He makes all these excuses how he'll be embarrassed if WWX is rolling around 😂 Perfection. Boy, you are still carrying him and he doesn't want you to stop.
Jiang Cheng, walk slower, you’re gonna throw me off.”
Not only did Jiang Cheng want to throw Wei Wuxian off, but he practically wanted to bash his head into the ground to create a human crater. “So fussy even though I’m carrying you!”
“I didn’t tell you to carry me,” Wei Wuxian reasoned.
Jiang Cheng flew into a rage. “If I didn’t carry you, I think you’d hang out at their ancestral hall all day, rolling around on the floor. I can’t afford this embarrassment! Lan Wangji took fifty more strikes than you, but he walked away on his own, and you’re not embarrassed, pretending to be an invalid? I don’t want to carry you anymore. Get the hell off!”
“No, I’m wounded,” Wei Wuxian said.
Alrighty, like I'm just going through the entire book at this point.
Let me see if I can make this more concise:
Sacrifices himself despite his very dutiful nature that would oppose this. He throws away all his responsibilities for WWX, again and again, carrying on a tradition of favoring WWX over his own health and happiness. Citing: JFM favoring WWX to the detriment of his marriage, JYL dying to save WWX, and JC (exhausted and with little or no power) running into danger to save WWX ala distracting the Wen patrol and 2nd Siege.
Can't be honest in his affections and makes up excuses to do nice things for others.
Loves and understands his sister. She wanted JZX so he made it happen when LLJ had absolutely no reason to reinstate the marriage contract between Xuanli. JGS notes in the CR arc that he didn't want the marriage for his son in the first place and that there were better options than YMJ, and that was before the war! JC helped her get to Yiling to show off her wedding dress! Even though she married out he still felt so attached to her son he couldn't not co-parent Jin Ling.
Yes, he has Zidian, but he also has a second horsewhip that he keeps on him which is very exciting to know.
The narrative hates him but he survives. (He survives because the narrative hates him).
Most BAMF entrance in the novel at the temple scene with the busting the temple doors down and coming in from the rain with an umbrella. Like sure the narrative hates him but small blessings that rule of cool still counts for something.
Mama's boy.
Just some dude, shows up late to treasury room nonsense, knows all the gossip, no one has faith in him including himself, but he keeps going and doing what needs to be done even when he's so so tired and his shixiong shows up 3 months late with a ghoul lady and a latte, or disappears to liberate slave property without warning first and now he's called into a midnight meeting after trying to get some much needed rest and now he's got consequences to deal with. Someone help him!
An expert at sneering. Threats as a show of worry and care. This makes all the little and brief smiles so much more endearing.
Sandu Shengshou is an amazing title, get out of here if you don't agree. Holy Hand of the Three Poisons? Brutal, perfect 💜 It gets used like, ONCE. Crime against me personally.
Link to Blorbo Sheet for JC
He loves, he hates, he wants to hate he's not allowed to love. Zero middle ground, he's all in and there's no way out.
//is shot and dragged off stage
But just as the Wei Wuxian of the past who’d extracted his golden core for Jiang Cheng had been unable to tell him the truth, the Jiang Cheng of the present could no longer bring himself to speak up.

"If Jiang Cheng is all about debts, he should repay his debts to Wen Qing and Wen Ning!"
What debts? The two were from a sect that decimated his own. Be it willingly or not, they occupied the burned remains of his sect and helped the war effort on the Wen side (whilst assisting WWX and JC, but bear in mind, WQ only did it begrudgingly due to the risks associated with asissiting them. It's funny that y'all would jump to her defence whilst shitting on JC when she was in the exact same position he was in btw. But that's a debate for another day~).
Expecting him to pay a debt to the people that were, to at least some degree, complicit in numerous genocides is pretty messed up.
Even then, JC DID vouch for them to express his gratitude for helping him and WWX to escape and get their parent's remains back. But the other leaders shut him down when he did and scoffed at him. I feel like I've said this so many times on here, but he was in no position to argue any further on the matter. Especially when a more established sect leader like LXC was shut down, too.
As for the core transfer that he didn't consent to, how can he thank someone for that when he never knew it had happened in the first place?? Or asked for, for that matter?? The whole thing made him feel shitty anyway when he found out about it.
WQ and WWX, although both had good intentions, still had no right to experiment on him like that and keep this very invasive secret from him for so long, too. You can't just do something for someone without them knowing or consenting and expect them to repay that "debt" when you find yourself in a pinch. That's kinda like blackmail and is very coercive.. Something WWX and the Wen sibs are certainly not..
Then there's the situation with WN. Sure, he could be thankful for WN helping to get him to safety and treating his wounds (which, see my earlier point, JC did express gratitude.) But that opportunity kinda all fizzled out when WN killed JZX (I know it was an accident due to him being under the influence of DC but let's be real. That resentment is going to be there. Espeically since the topic greatly upsets JL soooo).
Even all that aside, you seriously can't expect JC to "repay his debts" and help WN and WQ out of that situation when the whole CW was against them. Helping them was suicidal and would bring on the wrath of the other major sects. And we all saw how that went for WWX (as JC rightly predicted)..
Had JC sided with the Wens and took them in to "pay his debts," he would have dragged the whole of his sect into the siege that happened soon after. This would mean more innocents would have been involved, and it would be the destruction of Lotus Pier all over again (and quite possibly the destruction of the Jiang, too). JC had to prioritise his own people. He would be a shit leader otherwise.
I feel as though some of y'all put some unrealistic expectations on JC when assessing his character. Especially when you compare him to the others in the story (returning back to my point I made earlier about him and WQ and how similar they both are).
On the topic of "debts" though, I would also like to argue that doing a good deed out of the kindness of your heart shouldn't be seen as a debt. And if you do something with the expectation that someone would do something for you back in kind, wouldn't that make you a shitty person? Is that what you're implying the Wen sibs are (or should be) ? Self-serving people who only help others if something is to be gained? 🤨
But what about the "debt" JC goes on about, you might ask? Oh, you mean the PROMISE that WWX made HIMSELF? That he would stay by JC's side? And be his subordinate? To fulfil his role as promised and expected of him?
That wasn't a debt.
WWX construed it as being one, but it doesn't fit the criteria, honestly. What WWX had was an obligation. He made that promise himself, and JC held him to it. It wasn't one JC forced him into as some form of servitiude, nor was it made in return for bed and board or something.
We know JC isn't truly about holding debts over others. If he was, he would have dangled his own sacrifice over WWX and used that to guilt trip him instead. Or force him to pay him back in kind. But he never did. Why? Because he loved WWX, and he didn't want him to feel "indebted" to him. Especially when WWX revealed his feelings of "letting go and moving on" to him.
You could go on forever about debts and who owes who what, but the thing is, each of these characters have hurt eachother in one way or another that at this point, the notion of who owes what doesn't matter anymore. The situation is far more complex than that. That's why all "debts" were dropped at the end, and JC and WWX just moved on. I feel that was the message MXTX tried to convey in her work. About moving on and letting go of grudges. Perhaps JC antis should take on that advice? And move on too?

Hello! Do you know that scene in mdzs where jyl comes to yiling with jc to show wwx her wedding dress?
What is your interpretation of wwx's attitude towards jc here?
I always thought he sounded pissed at him almost the entire time, telling him to shut up, saying it's none of his business when asked a question and getting annoyed at jc provoking him by toasting to the "yiling patriarch"
I've seen some comments where other people's reactions were something along the lines of "glad they're still friends" or laughing at the "banter" in this scene and I have a completely different view on this so i got curious and wanted to ask what do you think? And if you know how is it written in Chinese, what the tone of this scene is?
Maybe I got the wrong idea but it's almost uncomfortable for me how cold wwx is to jc in that scene, and justifiably so considering how jc fucked him over last time they met
Hello there anon!
For the scene in question (Seven Seas Edition)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hanzi of it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My translation:
Hearing this title, Wei Wuxian thought again of that domineering long flag fluttering in the wind, and his mind was filled with eight bright golden characters reading "Supreme Evil Lord Yiling Patriarch", and said, "Shut up!"
After taking a sip, Jiang Cheng asked, "How is your injury from last time?"
Wei Wuxian said, “It’s already healed."
Jiang Cheng hummed, "Ahh," After a pause, he added, "How many days did it take?"
Wei Wuxian replied, "It's been less than seven days. I told you, with Wen Qing, there's no need to worry. But, you were really fucking violent."
Jiang Cheng ate a piece of lotus root, "You asked him to break my hand first. You were sitting for seven days, and my arm was hung up for more than a month. "
Wei Wuxian hesitantly laughed and said, "How could I have not been cruel? It was your left hand anyway so it didn't prevent you from writing. A hundred days of broken muscles and bones to heal, three months of waiting isn't long."
Wen Ning's stuttering reply could be heard faintly outside the door. After a moment of silence, Jiang Cheng said, "Is this what you're going to do from now on? Do you have any plans?"
Wei Wuxian said, “Not sure. Those people don’t dare to go up the mountain, and no one dares to mess with me when I go down the mountain. As long as I don’t take the initiative to cause trouble, it's fine."
"Not taking the initiative?" Jiang Cheng sneered, "Wei Wuxian, believe it or not, even if you don't cause trouble, trouble will still find you. There is often nothing you can do to save someone, but there are more than a thousand ways to harm someone."
Wei Wuxian lowered his head, "One force with enough effort can defeat many, no matter the method. So, I will kill whoever comes. "
Jiang Cheng calmly said, "You never listen to any of what I tell you. One day you will know that what I say is right."
He drank the rest of the soup in one breath, stood up, and said: "Awesome. Amazing. As expected of the Yiling Laozu."
Wei Wuxian spat out a piece of bone, "Are you done yet?"
Before leaving, Jiang Cheng said, "Don't see us off. We don't want to be spotted."
Wei Wuxian nodded. He understood that this was not an easy journey for the Jiang family siblings. If others saw this, all the drama they put on for others would be in vain.
He said, "We'll go first."
So, as to my take for this, it's less of anyone is truly angry, as it is waiting for something to happen. The situation is played as a simple meeting when it no longer is, can't be, and will never be. There is a lack of this foreboding that overshadows the scene in the seven seas translation. Something I am not fond of as it uses more banter than Wei Wuxian exhibits in the scene. (Where snickers and the weird tone comes from with Wei Wuxian being surprised he was stabbed basically just brings more ire than I want that doesn't pertain to this question)
I think it's less that Wei Wuxian is angry at anything more than understanding what point they are at and him fully expressing he doesn't want anything further endangering him or the Wens after the defection was over and done with. If they keep low as he intends to, all could move on. Jiang Cheng of course doubts this as he thinks Wei Wuxian can't do anything else but cause trouble in his efforts to help. Two opposing sides of leave well enough alone, or, step in once again against cruelty despite the hurt.

me gushing about tgcf for... idek-
Haha, don't ask why i'm making this post when I'm basically dead, BUT- TGCF is honestly was got me into the danmei fandom. Two of my friends were gushing about it so in order to not feel left out i watched the donghua and it was the BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE not only because the donghua was actually so beautifully animated and the story was so captivating, but also because i watched it in dub and got to see howard wang. Which was great, obviously. unfortunately, i spoiled a LOT. And i mean A LOT of stuff after finishing season 1. I spoiled the ghost city arc, the 800 year wait, and some of Xie Lian's trauma before even starting season 2. And i didn't even have to wait that long for it- some people were waiting over 2 years!! which is crazy to me. The character designs are so intricate and beautiful in all mediums, including the audio drama (which is actually my favorite art out of all of 'em), which HOW?!??!?!? ITS AN AUDIO DRAMA?!?!??! i ended up buying all the books, despite spoiling myself a TON. And i don't regret it at all- i even convinced myself (not really myself, but my dead bank account) to buy the special edition of TGCF!! The official art is gorgeous, the pop-up is gorgeous, the books\ mark is gorgeous, and- despite all the spoilers, after i got used to the writing style it was honestly A BLAST. I finished all the books in less than 2 weeks. I stayed up late reading them- and my favorite part was finishing a book so i could jump to the next one. And my greatest surprise was i didn't even spoil ALL of it to myself! The instigator of the war between xianle and yong'an (if ykyk, hint: family) was such a surprise to me i had to put the book down for a good second before reading it again! xie lians occasional sassiness was honestly really in character, but still a surprise. I have seen some who didnt like tgcf because of the character arcs and hualian- which is fine, but as long as you have the right expectations going into the book, you will not be disappointed. Xie Lian is honestly my favorite. Sue me for being basic, but i love him. Even before knowing all the trauma, i loved him. (Followed closely are Ruoye and Feng Xin, so i guess you can guess my type which i immediately attach to, haha) anyway, in case you weren't looking for my life story, then here: watch the donghua of tgcf, then read all the books, no spoilers. Trust me. Spoilers ruined some of the emotional moments for me yet i still felt empathy for all the characters, which is kind of hard to do. (it hurts, dream on, there is no banquet that does not come to an end). then consume the fan content. Literally all of it. We are the most blessed fandom in history. You may look up some things to expect for tgcf, because i believe the theme is actually quite different from mxtx's other works! I still love wwx tho ;) ----- PS: I also love the parallels. I'll talk about one since this post is so long already, but here- I absolutely love the quotes. A lot of times, popular quotes are remembered when Hua Cheng is saying them, but when you read the books, you realize he's just parroting what xie lian has said... im biased and this isnt for everyone, and obviously his tone and context are wayy different + he has great quotes on his own- but I think it shows his love for him. or maybe i just love Xie Lian, haha.

Wei Wuxian would NOT help Jiang Cheng torture demonic cultivators
So a while ago (and I mean a while ago), I saw the worst take at that moment. If it was just one poster I would have ignored it, but! There were at least 3 people and even art was drawn and all of it to say that if Jiang Cheng was really torturing those non-existent demonic cultivators, than Wei Wuxian would have happily helped his brother! And before anyone comes at me, I don't care what people do with their free time or with their skills. I'm an artist myself and would definitely not appreciate people telling me what I can and can't draw. It's not about that, it's just that their take was so bad that I couldn't ignore it and had to vent about it! So, where do I begin?
Well, let's begin with those demonic cultivators! (I know a bunch of people said it already, but I don't mind repeating it for the slow learners.)
Oh! And keep in mind that mdzs is a third person omniscient narration (not wwx's narration!) That's why we get to read direct thoughts of so many different characters, not just Wei Wuxian.
Jiang Cheng really did torture them. He admits it himself!
A moment ago, Jiang Cheng was certain that this person was Wei WuXian, and all of the blood in his body started to boil. Yet, now, Zidian was clearly telling him that he wasn’t. Zidian definitely wouldn’t deceive him or make a mistake, so he quickly calmed himself and thought, this doesn’t mean anything. I should first find an excuse to take him back and use every possible method to get information out of him. It’s impossible for him to not confess anything or give himself away. I’ve done things like this in the past anyways. After thinking it through, he made a gesture. The disciples understood his intention and came over.
ExR ch. 10
His nephew, who lived half the time in Lotus Pier, also confirms it:
Wei WuXian asked, “Do you know why your uncle wants me?”
Jin Ling answered, “Yeah. He believes that you’re Wei WuXian.”
Wei WuXian thought, 'This time, it’s not merely ‘suspect’ anymore. He’s got the right person.' He asked again, “Then, what about you? Don’t you suspect it as well?”
Jin Ling, “It’s not the first time my uncle did such a thing. He has never let any of them go, even if it was possible that he caught the wrong ones. But, if Zidian couldn’t draw out your spirit, I’m just gonna trust that you’re not. Besides, he wasn’t a cut-sleeve, but you even dared to harass…”
ExR ch. 24
Even the Lan juniors speek of it! Reminder that gossip is forbidden, so this must not be gossip or at least the possibility of it being just some rumours is low.
Lan SiZhui tried to reason with him, “Young Master Mo, it was for your sake that HanGuang-Jun brought you here. If you do not follow us, Sect Leader Jiang will not be willing to let the matter go. During these years, there were countless people whom he caught and took back to Lotus Pier, and none of those people were ever let out.”
ExR ch. 11
And let's not forget the innkeeper from Yunping with her eyewitness!
Wei WuXian moved his gaze from Lan WangJi’s calm face with a short pause of surprise, “Lotus Pier is scary? How could Lotus Pier be scary? You’ve been there?”
The owner, “I haven’t been there myself, but I know someone who went because his house was being badly haunted. But it was all bad luck. That Sect Leader Jiang was cracking a glowing whip right on the training field. The victim’s flesh and blood flew as high as his screams! A servant secretly informed him that the sect leader caught the wrong person again, that he hadn’t been in a great mood, and that he definitely shouldn’t be irritated in any way. He was so scared that he dropped off the gifts he brought and fled at once. He never dared visit again.”
ExR ch. 92
So. There is no point arguing that Jiang Cheng didn't torture those poor people demonic cultivators. So, how about Wei Wuxian? Would he have helped his "brother"?
No.
The answer is simply no.
Wei Wuxian is a kind and caring person. He would never judge and even less attack a person without a good reason. And before someone says, "But he killed so many people! Torture Wen cultivators, massacred 3000 cultivators in the Nightless City! Surely he would–" Let me stop you right there. It was war. Like Mianmian once said:
The woman tried hard to protest, “The Sunshot Campaign is a battlefield. On the battlefield, would it mean that everyone is killing indiscriminately? Let’s consider this as it stands. I really don’t think it’s right to say that he killed indiscriminately. After all, there is a reason. If the inspectors really abused the prisoners and killed Wen Ning, it wouldn’t be called killing indiscriminately anymore, but rather revenge...”
ExR ch. 73
(This passage is in case someone argues that the deaths of those guards were also unjust.)
Wen Chao and his people massacred Wei Wuxian's home. He had every right to exact his revenge. In case someone forgot, this is seen as just by the cultivation world:
Xiao XingChen spoke as though he couldn’t believe Xue Yang’s words, “Chang CiAn broke one of your fingers in the past. If you sought revenge, you could’ve simply broken one of his fingers as well. If you really took the matter to heart, you could’ve broken two, or even all ten! Even if you had cut off an entire arm of his, things wouldn’t have been like this. Why did you have to kill his entire clan? Don’t tell me that a single finger of yours was equal to more than fifty human lives!”
ExR ch. 41
And after that, he never went after people that did him nothing wrong! He even protected the Wen Remnants. (Unlike a certain someone that holds a grudge until the very end, even after that person had saved him countless times!)
In case of the Nightless City, let me paraphrase Wei Wuxian: who attacked whom first? Who had gathered 3000 cultivators to pledge to kill 50 innocent elderly, sick and a child? Who went against their word to let the matter go?
Wei Wuxian is the moral compass and we should aspire to be more like him. This is how MXTX wrote him. He would have never helped his "brother" (they were never brothers, people, let it go already) torture and kill innocents. And he would definitely not relish in it.
+ Bonus
The same innkeeper from Yunping about some rando with surname Wen:
The owner, “Also, I’ve heard of another person who was scared away.”
Wei WuXian, “Scared away by what?” It couldn’t have been when Jiang Cheng was whipping someone again, could it? Just how often did Jiang Cheng capture people and whip them?
The owner, “No, no. It was his misfortune. The person’s surname was Wen, and that Sect Leader Jiang’s archenemy happened to have the surname of Wen as well. He's hating on everyone in this world whose surname is Wen. Whenever he sees one, he’d grind his teeth in hatred, wanting to skin them alive. How could he give a single friendly look to...”
ExR ch. 92
Good thing that guy's name wasn't Wen Kexing or it would have been Jiang Cheng who was tortured to death!

Why was WRH so stupid?
I've been thinking about this for a while and like, WRH's actions were deeply stupid in a way that turned the whole cultivation world against him in self-defence when, with a bit more patience, he could have wiped out all the Great Clans within five or so years and set himself up as a petty-Emperor of the cultivation world.
If I was WRH, this is how I would do it.
A ten-step plan for world domination.
Step 1: don't attack Cloud Recesses. The pretext was dumb and nobody bought it. Send a polite invitation to a Wen Study Term just like Cloud Recesses'. A POLITE ONE! The clans will acquiesce because nobody wants to rock the boat.
2: now you have to decide whether you want to go after the Jiang, the Lan, or both. I would recommend choosing one - both is too ambitious. The Nie are not an option for reasons that will become clear. I would recommend the Jiang.
3: kill Wen Chao. He's useless anyway, but he's still the son of the sect leader.
4: frame Jiang Cheng (not WWX - WWX can be disavowed, but Jiang Cheng is the sect heir, his actions are, to an extent, the actions of the Jiang Sect) for the death of Wen Chao. It doesn't have to be murder, although it would be best if WC could pick a bunch of fights with JC beforehand so that whatever 'night hunting accident' he dies in can be spun as JC deliberately getting him killed out if rage. (now we see why the Nie are not an option. Nobody would believe that NHS murdered Wen Chao, and if WC got killed on a night hunt because of NHS' incompetence, the Nie can easily say that the Wen knew that Second Young Master Nie is not suited to night hunting so why was he there in the first place? Not that NMJ would do that because the loss of face would probably send him into qi deviation, but best not let it come up)
4a: Massacre the Jiang. Nobody is going to object - and if they do, they won't do it loudly. The loss of a son and heir - because WC is still in the succession, I believe? - is sufficient pretext that nobody is going to object too loudly. If you want to be super practical you can just kill the Jiang inner Disciples and take the sect for yourself, but I feel like WRH does have the manpower to take Lotus Pier and keep industry flowing with civilian labor. No need to risk hostile cultivators at his back.
5: we are now one Great Sect down, and no war. Everyone is kind of 👀 about it because they never thought their own tactics would be turned against a Great Sect like this, but there is sufficient precedent that nobody wants to object too loudly.
6: now you wait. Move too soon and you could scare the Lan and the Nie into uniting against you, and you don't want that. While you're waiting, you consolidate your hold on Yunmeng, bringing the smaller sects in the region under your banner. Nothing to see here, just doing what sects do. Make sure your relations with the Jin remain good. Jin Guangshan won't cause any trouble for you if you don't cause any trouble for him.
7: choose whether to go after the Lan or the Nie next. I recommend the Lan, because the Unclean Realm is a tough nut to crack.
8: attack the Lan. Kill everyone - but most especially you want to kill everyone in the line of succession. You don't want Lan Xichen or Lan Wangji rallying people against you later on. A pretext would be useful for this, but at this point is not entirely necessary. Don't burn the library, you idiot.
9: you are now left with the Nie and the Jin among the great clans. This is good because they don't get along, and also Jin Guangshan is useless. Besiege the Unclean Realm. You don't have to go frontal assault, just keep them bottled up in their nice little fortress where you can pick them off at your leisure. This may take a few years, but once they are sufficiently weakened you can take them out.
10: CONGRATULATIONS!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Important things must be said three times! World domination is now yours! The Jin are the only Great Sect left, and they won't dare move against you and can't unite the smaller clans (whom I hope you have been treating well as you unite them under the Wen. You have been treating them well, right?) . At some point later, you can take them out if you wanted, but it's not necessary. I'd recommend taking care of Jin Zixuan, who is likely to bear a grudge and is an honorable idiot who won't take well to having a Wen boot on his neck. Jin Zixun will be much more amenable.
There are some people who might see your plan and derail it - primarily NHS and Meng Yao. NHS is unlikely to be able to do much since nobody will listen to him, although if both he and Meng Yao are in the Unclean Realm they might be able to convince NMJ to take action before the attack on the Lan can happen. I would recommend convincing JGS that a spare heir is never a bad idea (if this works you can always get Meng Yao installed as head of the Jin later - if he knows you're the one who convinced JGS to take him on he will be loyal to you, and if JGS and Co treat him as they did in canon he will not object overmuch if you kill him, and might even do it for you). If that doesn't work, kill him.

Lan's actually have AMAZING alchochol tolerance. The rules against alchocol in Cloud Recesses is bcs they would all drink like fish otherwise. ALT: They all still pretend to be lightweights for *dealer's choice of reason* / LWJ drinks WWX off the roof first time they meet
Wei Wuxian came to find Lan Wangji the next day.
He had to ask four different people and be extremely charming about it, but he eventually found him before classes were due to start, as he’d hoped, and rushed over to pull him over into a corner between buildings to chat.
Lan Wangji, looking unimpressed, allowed himself to be dragged.
“All right,” Wei Wuxian said. “I’m going to tell you right now: I’m impressed. No one’s drunk me under a table since – well, for rather a long time. Isn’t alcohol prohibited here?”
“So you do know the rules,” Lan Wangji said pointedly.
“I don’t!” Wei Wuxian, who may have heard a rumor or three about the one against alcohol, said very sincerely. “Anyway, you mentioned it yesterday!”
Right before they’d gotten into a drinking contest, which Wei Wuxian had lost.
Lan Wangji merely scowled at him.
“But seriously,” Wei Wuxian persisted. “How in the world did you get such a ridiculous alcohol tolerance if it’s against the rules? For that matter, why did you agree to a drinking contest with me if it was against the rules?”
“The rules must always be weighed against each other. As much as we seek to follow them all, it is sometimes impossible, or else impracticable or undesirable. In such cases, we must select the rule we are to follow, and accept the due punishment for the one we violate.”
“I get that,” Wei Wuxian said, scratching his head. “It even makes sense. But…what rule were you following that outweighed the prohibition against alcohol?”
Lan Wangji looked at him.
“The one,” he said primly, “that says take no shit.”

It's been few weeks or months that i have been obsessed witha idea about a mdzs x svsss crossover where after sj death in svsss he reborn as female wwx twin sister.
Sj kinda remember his past life but slowly means that he remembers that he shouldn't be this small and this isn't his world but couldn't put his finger on it.
Anyway he got reborn as a female and was quite happy cuz of his past life so *she* was more happy here but not as chaotic as wwx.
Her name is wei xing/wei wuyan( i saw it in a video on YouTube so hope i didn't offend you)
Wcz choose her name since his other daughter name already chosen by his lovely evil wife( baby seriously a-se) so he named her xing as in prosper,and wuyan i don't know what it means but thought it would suit her.
She was really happy cuz not only she didn't have that cursed name and actually has a real birth name not a number but a real name with a loving family she was really happy so much that she couldn't believe it
This peace ended with that faithful nighthunt after getting kicked out of inn wwy went to seach for them with wwx and find their corpses wwx Burst in to tears and keep promising to be a good girl and listen to them wwy tried hard not to but was unsuccessful cuz wei couple were the first adult who treat him kindly in his both lives not with pity not with underhand motivation nor were they expecting anything in return,they gave her a life she always wanted a name with them she understood the meaning of love and family so he cried, cried like child he was they cried for a few hours then begin to bury their parents and since wwy could read and write from her past life she manege to write their names so they could visit them.
After that wwy and wwx to always protect each other and stayed side by side in everything. Wwy might be smart but wwx was sturdier than her sister so they have to be in tune with each other to survive.it wasn't that hard wwx might be a child but she learn really quickly and unlikely yqy ,wwx trusted wwy this made wwy to be both proud and emotional since she never had someone like that in her past life so she became even more overprotective of wwx . And since wwx wasn't alone she didn't have that much fear from dogs but they still made her uncomfortable and made her flinch her sister was always there to protect and teach her and she protect here in her own way .
She knew her sister was little too smart for her age but she didn't find anything wrong if anything it made her happy that if anything happens to her her sister is smart enough to protect herself so to not be a burden she listened to her all time except maybe sometime when she scolded her for sharing her food with other beggars but she couldn't help it she was kind like that and always smiled that made wwy soft and so hard to be mad at.
After few years jfm found them wwy distrust him cuz he kept reminding her of yqy but for her sister she would do anything so she didn't put much of a fight.
After reaching lotus pier and meeting madam yu who was so angry and utter thousands of insult about their parents wwy couldn't take it anymore and spit as much venom at her so much that made jfm to lose his balance wwx tried to shut her up cuz she was afraid that the madam would hurt her and yes almost did by brandishing zidan on her if jfm hadn't stop her . After lots of arguing and fighting neither parties apologized .
After jfm finding out aboout wwx condition aboout dogs he sended them away. jc was angry so he lash out and wwy lash out in return but not only that she bring up her parents, about what a failure of couple they are and with everything like money and status they still aren't happy and how his mom jealous of a dead woman who had nothing but was always happy unlike her.
Jc brust to tears after hearing this jyl chose that moment to come and said what was wwy said was out of line and should apologize but wwy said your mother hadn't spare a though about us losing our parents and still speak ill of in front of us she just returning the favor in kind to see how does it feel hear your parents get badmouth and you could do nothing about it .
Well this as much i could think.i would be really happy if someone could make a fic out of this or something close.

Jiggy.
MY SPECIAL LITTLE GUY MY BLORBO LOVE OF MY LIFE. i am insane about him. he is the character of all time
My first impression: huh. i don't know what's going on here but he seems interesting and competent.
My impression now: i would kill and die for him. he is my favorite character in mdzs and one of my favorites EVER. he has so many layers!! a-yao....
Favorite thing about that character: he's COMPETENT. to an absolutely insane degree. learning what he did about cultivation from shitty useless manuals and forming a golden core as an older teenager/young adult takes an INSANE amount of talent, not to mention HENSHENG??? he is the only (named?) character to have a soft sword, he's adapted bits of fighting styles from multiple major sects, and he's skilled enough with Hensheng that at some point he has shattered multiple spiritual weapons with it. he was a spy under WEN FUCKING RUOHAN for months. he and wwx are entirely responsible for winning the sunshot campaign and he dealt the final blow. also what he did with the song of turmoil?? equally insane amount of talent.
Least favorite thing: the Bad TakesTM. he attracts them like FLIES
Favorite line/scene: Lan Xichen! In this life, I’ve lied countless times, killed countless times. Like you said, I killed my father, my brother, my wife, my son, my teacher, my friend—of all the evil in the world, what haven’t I done?!...But I’ve never even thought of harming you!
i am very normal about them.
honestly his entire Guanyin Temple showing is nuts in the best way and i am chewing on him. close seconds are him on the stairs of Jinlintai looking at Nie Mingjue and going, of course they and I are different! the utter RESIGNATION of it. the truth of it!! he will never be treated like the rest of the cultivation world, he knows it, and Mingjue can't see it like he does!
Favorite interaction that character has with another: every time he and xichen are on screen or on page together is just. so nuts. the box scene. guanyin temple (god!!!!!!!!!! augh). everything cql added in.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: Qin Su!! she needs more time anyway but god their relationship is SO TRAGIC and i love looking at AUs where the whole marriage can be avoided and there aren't lasting scars left on both jgy and qs from. you know. accidentally marrying your half sibling because your shared father is a rapist. also, we get zero real looks at how their relationship is before everything goes south and it pains me.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: this is so fucking hard oh my god. there are bits of He Xuan and Ling Wen that i see in him, i think? especially the. "i was born the same day as you and i am cleverer than you but my life was a tragedy and yours was perfect, so why was I not worthy of the same fate you were? why did I get nothing when you got everything?" and the "you know what? I am tired of cleaning up your messes. i am going to cause problems now." he also... i cannot explain this one but his vibes are very similar to Alexander of Tirragen from the Song of the Lioness quartet in my mind. i genuinely truly cannot comprehend WHY those two are associated in my brain, but they are.
A headcanon about that character: he was in love with Xichen and Xichen was in love with him. god bless the cql xiyao agenda.
A song that reminds of that character: lying beast by run river north - it reminds me very much of what he would think of himself esp. towards the end (and guanyin temple)
An unpopular opinion about that character: he and Mingjue's relationship could not have been fixed, or at least not without considerable effort on Mingjue's part, post-Sunshot and especially around the time of the stairs before JGY starts playing turmoil. JGY did not need to put more effort into it! he was already putting effort into it! Mingjue's worldview is fundamentally incompatible with JGY's existence, frankly. It never mattered how hard he tried to mend the relationship because Mingjue would always see him as a liar who was trying to manipulate him, and the sworn brotherhood was not a good idea, Xichen, good god.
Favorite picture: all of them but especially these. i support his wrongs (he has never done anything wrong ever in his life). he is the prettiest man alive and yet!! he suffers! but oh god his thousand yard stare after Mingjue kicks him down the stairs...

I decided these sketches would go up as is so here they are! i might work on the left sketch separately in the future, because that one is my favorite of the wwx sketches on his own but i don't think it looks quite right like this [and i still like the sketch alone more than with any color even if its muted, which is usually a sign it needs to be worked on lmao]
anyway, this is IMBSB WWX! aka Angel WWX for my other afterlife au, "In My Blood, Stardust Blooms". i wanted to focus more on figuring him out than drawing anything super nice for these. [these were drawn before my actual ficlet art i recently posted, so he looks better in that ficlet art than here imo lol]
more info and links to art under the read more line!
“In My Blood, Stardust Blooms” / IMBSB is a short project that not unlike COI is about the afterlife, but centered on angels pretty exclusively this time [while COI is mostly centered in hell]. It delves into the mysteries of the forbidden land of Yiling and loss, and of course a particular couple of angel’s love for each other. I have started writing, but it's of course not up yet as it's going to be either a one shot or very few chapters. [this doesn't mean i won't make more stories about this setting in the future, it's just i don't have any future plans for it yet past what i'm doing as of now]. You can find the first post on Reddit here and Tumblr here!
Previous Artwork or segments / previews!
Wen Ning first concept drawing [will be reuploaded once i finish editing/correcting it]
A gift for the second jade of Gusu IMBSB preview 3 [contains all previews & snips]
if you want to read what i said in the previews here they are one by one. preview 1 preview 2

JC gets sick/injured/incapacitated for a week, the feral ones go (extra) wild with worry, now yungmeng jiang disciples aren't the only ones bothering baoshan sanren to get JC to immortality, no one wants to deal with yungmeng jiang without their sect leader's control, and the immortal is only used to chaos on the singular cangse sanren level, not the wwx squared x ever multiplying feral goblin level
Baoshan Sanren had gone through a lot to reach immortality. And it wasn't like her life had been completely idyllic since then. The tragedies that haunted her students upon their departure from her mountain was chief among her griefs.
But there were griefs, and there were GRIEFS, and Baoshan Sanren had recently become acquainted with the latter quite intimately. Ever since the misbegotten disciples of Yunmeng Jiang had gotten it into their collective skulls that their sect leader should be granted immortality, Baoshan Sanren had not known peace. The constant pestering. The combination of bribery and attempted blackmail. And the less said about the... incident... with the goose yao, the better.
Anyway, the point was she had come to the conclusion that the most irritating and annoying nuisances in the Jianghu would invariably be clad in purple.
But that was before she met Sect Leader Yao.
"Oh, Venerated Immortal, we beseech you to hear our plea!"
"Hear our plea, O Venerated Immortal," a chorus of voices droned in echo.
Baoshan Sanren massaged her temples, wishing that a tempest would suddenly strike up and blow everyone off of her fucking mountain. After a blissful two weeks of peace she'd thought the Jiang disciples had finally given up. But now, representatives from half of the cultivation clans had paid her a visit.
How the fuck was she even getting so many visitors, now?! Those little Jiang gremlins, she could almost understand. Their clan specialized in the impossible, and she knew that a determined Jiang was all but unstoppable, but that did not explain the massed group of chucklefucks currently at her doorstep.
And at least the Jiang got to the point. She'd been listening to this Yao asshole heaping mindless praise and petitions for an hour without actually getting to what they were there to ask for.
Pushed past the brink of what any immortal could be expected to endure, she donned her weimao and grabbed her sword, swearing to herself that she would kick a whole bunch of asses if this turned out to be a waste of her time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sect Leader Jiang was missing.
Normally, Lan Wangji would be privately celebrating the situation. Wei Ying's inexplicable fondness for his shidi notwithstanding, Jiang Wanyin was now at the very bottom of Wangji's list of tolerable people now that Su She was dead.
True, Wei Ying was worried, and that was unacceptable. His soulmate had long since joined the Jiang sect's search throughout Yunmeng and beyond. But despite the size and importance of Yunmeng Jiang, the cultivation world could not come to a halt just because one sect leader was missing. There were trade agreements to finalize, conferences to attend, and night hunts to engage in.
And ultimately, those reasons were why he was here today. At Baoshan Sanren's mountain. As Chief Cultivator. At the behest of a number of people who had persecuted Wei Ying in the past.
Because, for the last fortnight, the tasks that Jiang Wanyin would have handled personally had instead been handled by his deputies. His angry, worried, desperate deputies, who had long internalized Jiang Wanyin's simultaneous bitterness at and insistence on Yunmeng Jiang's independent isolation.
The Jiang head disciple, Hu Fai, had glowered quietly during the cultivation conference, except when responding allusions to Jiang Wanyin's absence with blistering and unrestrained commentary that would have made his sect leader both proud and horrified. Jiang disciples scoured the countryside, searching for their leader without concern for territorial borders. And reports said that Jiang Fu had made Anping Rong's chief negotiator actually cry during their trade negotiations.
Faced with the evidence of what Yunmeng Jiang was like without the stern and disciplined presence of Jiang Wanyin, the minor sects were panicking. Sect Leader Jin was too busy helping search for his Jiujiu to be bothered, and that asshole Nie Huaisang was gleefully watching the whole debacle from the sidelines like it was a mummer's parade.
Certainly, the political situation was concerning. Yunmeng Jiang under Jiang Fengmian had been expansive but laid back. Their general lack of discipline had been offset by the influence of their easygoing and indulgent sect leader. However, after the massacre of Lotus Pier and subsequent Sunshot Campaign, Jiang Wanyin had molded the remaining disciples and assorted joining rogue cultivators into a vicious and effective fighting force. The influence of the latter's introduction to the great sect could not be understated. Jiang Fengmian had had a friendly, egalitarian attitude, but because of the influence of the clan elders and his aristocratic wife, the line between high birth and low had been distinct within the sect. But Jiang Wanyin, desperate for numbers and hands after the near eradication of his bloodline, had allowed all but the most despicable of character entry into Yunmeng Jiang, and had bestowed his surname upon anyone who'd earned their desire for it. This chaotic and heterogeneous collection of disciples had bestowed a rather... feral... energy upon the sect, who sometimes only seemed united by their dedication to their bestowed sect and their fanatical devotion to their sect leader. Combined with Jiang Wanyin's rigorous martial training and the clan's motto advocating pursuit of the impossible, the whole situation was rapidly becoming explosive.
And for some reason, this had resulted in the amassed sect leaders coming to the conclusion that the current problem would be solved if Jiang Wanyin was granted immortality and not, under any circumstances, be allowed to ever resign from the position of sect leader.
To actually petition for such an offense was beyond Lan Wangji's ability to stomach. However, his presence had been demanded by the sect leaders for propriety's sake, and anyway, they needed someone of his skill level, talent, and power to find the Immortal Mountain for them.
Lan Wangji was sure that even the densest of observers could detect his pained expression.
ep50 (4/4): super special extra reunion post time
Tumblr media
I've said this already but for the uninitiated: I was a dumb idiot watching this for the first time and when this shot appeared I got all excited because for a split second I thought. I thought wwx was on one knee. like to propose 😭 obviously for several reasons that was not what was happening but I always think of it when they cut to this shot
ahh they're in the green of summer. growing things, life. not going towards winter. maybe the colors and season was why I think of jc and wwx's relationship as ending, but wwx and lwj's as persisting. that color symbolism is powerful
Tumblr media
oh god those mountains are so gorgeous behind them
Tumblr media
see he's wearing that patchy blue-black robe set from before! this could not have POSSIBLY been all in the same day.
anyway, bittersweet but ultimately for the best. not just wwx leaving to find some equilibrium in this world he's come back to, but lwj feeling the full force of his own affection and parting with wwx anyway. not exactly the same situation as lwj's parents were in, but significant all the same. wwx needs to be loved and cherished, but he also needs to be free. commitment (a collar) was something he feared in his previous life, and I don't think it's a stretch to say even now he's jumpy about it. after years of persecution and violence, letting him feel everything he needs to, establish himself in the world, and then come back when he's ready is one of the best things he can do for himself. staying in CR for a few weeks to rest and get ready to go back on the road made sense, but several things in cql point to CR not being wwx's preferred permanent home, especially the way this finale played out
Tumblr media Tumblr media
lwj looks so beautiful in these shots my goodness. and he's not wearing all white anymore :)
Tumblr media
wwx and lwj (and this shot) are SO dramatic I'm sure they didn't need to do All That. and yet they did. and I'm happy for it
Tumblr media
ah but he'll still miss lwj. he plays the song as he goes - don't forget, I'll be back to ask about this. I still care about you. I won't forget either. I'll see you again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this must be a fragment of conversation from the walk up. I think wwx does know - he's teasing, and lwj is reassuring - yes, I know it. I've known it for a long time. I'll tell you, when you come back
one of the most formative pieces of meta I've read described the name of the song as lwj's confession piece, which is why I always find it odd that postcanon fics don't often incorporate it. I guess if you're not worried about censorship, you can just have them make out. but it's such an elegant and thematically appropriate mechanism of confession, and the deep significance it holds to the characters make it especially suitable. that's how I envision the confession happening
Tumblr media
back to wwx after an unspecified amount of time, but definitely not the same day unless wwx very quickly and without stopping his music changed clothes. I think, minimum three months, max 12 . probably more like 6-8
reading get-togethers, I always get nervous about him standing right near the cliff edge. what if he falls! but he's easily 10 ft away from the edge so I guess I can rest my heart
on that topic, there's not much cover for them. if they wanna fuck it's going to be right out in the open. unless they pitch a tent or something ig
but honestly, if they never so much as kissed before this, they're probably going to take their time getting closer. they jumped right into intimacy in the book but even with their more consistent relationship here I think it would take a while. if they DID kiss in ep43, maybe not quite so long, but it's not like there's a rush. they're together, they'll go at their own pace. I feel like a lot of fics rush it, but sometimes the journey fun and exciting all on its own
Tumblr media
ah this is so beautiful
Tumblr media
HERE IT IS!!!
Tumblr media
oh and he FREEZES. I always assumed they planned to meet, but he seems genuinely shocked here, so maybe not
Tumblr media
aw I always liked this smile. a secret little thing, private and excited. anticipatory
Tumblr media
and there he is with the 🥺 vibes. before he breaks out into the big smile, he just turns with that look like this is the most important thing he's ever looked upon
Tumblr media
and there's that smile. he's okay, he's okay. we've come full circle, right down to a cliffside meeting. he's happy, and healthy, and ready. he made it! and now the next chapter of their lives can begin
Tumblr media
man I don't even know what to say. it's the end! what a journey. what a performance from everyone. what a lot to digest. what a lot to love. what a lot of grieve. this story will be with me for the rest of my life no matter what. wei wuxian and lan wangji, always in my heart. I love you all
personal highlights:
when I picked up that jgy was giving lxc a test, that was neat
lqr, running up, yelling "running is prohibited! loud voices are prohibited!"
jin ling looking over for wwx with such a yearning expression on his face...
the entire scene in the autumn courtyard. TAKE CARE 😭
wwx being happy and playful with chenqing 😊
wwx happy crying!!! as is his right!
waving bye with his dizi like he did when he was young!
wwx's mid-forest crying really did hit me ugh xz was so good in this episode as he always is
lwj playing in the springs and wwx walking down to join him on dizi...what was happening there 👀
remembering their shared vow and 'you deserve to be wei ying' are like two of the highest points in the SERIES for me
wwx quoting the 'do not associate with evil' line to nhs lmao
I really do love the entire cliffside separation scene AND the reunion scene of course but of particular note
them being dramatic and going in opposite directions of a massive mountain
"When I return, you better have a name for this song"/"I have long known it."
wwx freezing when he hears his name in lwj's voice, the tiny smile, the slow turn, the big relieved grin. my god. my god. all of it.
everything is just so beautiful 😊🥰♥🎉🎇❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍 and love is real!!! thank you the untamed!!!!
Fic Finder
~*~
1. I'm looking for two fics.
A) The first is a modern AU where LWJ is a doctor who finds WWX in his hospjtal after disappearing after a school fire years ago. He later learns WWX donated many organs to JC after the fire and was dumped by the Jiangs afterwards, which is why LWJ won't let the Lan partner with them.
B) The second is set (I think) after WWX's death, and is about LWJ collecting portraits of him that were done by an artist he met in Yiling before the siege. I think the artist wanted to show who the Yiling Pateiarch really was or something.Thank you as always for all the hard work you and the fic detectives do!
1A)
FOUND! Step by step by apathyinreverie (T, 12k, wangxian, LXC & LWJ, LWJ & LSZ & WWX, WWX & WQ, modern, not Jiang friendly, not JFM or YZY friendly, guilt, fluff, past angst, flashbacks, protective LWJ, soft WWX, family, friendship, getting together, established relationship, hurt/comfort, organ donation)
1B)
FOUND! In Exchange by FlautistsandPeonies (M, 8k, wangxian, major character death (WWX), The Power of Yiling Laozu Sexy)
~*~
2. Hi again! I have an ask for the next FicFinder that this falls into. There was this one fic I read maybe back in 2021, where wangxian had had more than just Sizhui as a kid (i think it was two) and their youngest kid got lost and everybody was going crazy searching for him. The kid is eventually found by Wen Ning, thinking he was about to find wwx, because the kid was whistling like he’d seen wwx do and after all is said and done, the kid had to promise not to do it again. I think in this fic wwx was referred to as “mama” and it could possibly be an abo verse? I’m unsure as it has been a while, but if anyone can find anything, I’m super grateful! Thanks in advance 😁💜
~*~
3. Hello! I don't remember much of the fic, but I recall there was a specific part of madam Yu getting whipped by zidian. And this was a time travel fic; lan zhan went back to the past a bit before wei ying arrived at gusu lan. Last I remember reading this fic was in 2021, and thank you so much for your help! :) @suriaster
~*~
4. hello! I read a fic a while ago and want to reread it but I can't find it 😭 it was a modern au where lwj knew wwx in high school (they weren't friends though) then wwx went missing and like 3 years post high school they reconnected. lwj is either a librarian or he just really likes books. he goes to visit wwx and ayuan, they're living with the other wens at some farm and granny wen makes them a plate of snacks and lwj ends up staying the night. at some point him and wwx go to a farmers market where the wens sell their crops and lwj and wwx wander around. also, lwj reads like 5 books throughout and the author had linked them in the end notes, that's why I'm trying to find it again sjfbdjf so I can read those books. anyways thank you for your help!! @cryiling
FOUND! Flying in silver moonlight by twigofwillow (G, 14k, WangXian, Modern AU, Non-Magical, this is set in America, LWJ POV, Mostly Fluff, lil bit of angst just for seasoning, Found Family, Librarian LWJ, farmers market WWX, greenhouse au, [Podfic of] Flying in silver moonlight and in this close hand by exmanhater)
~*~
5. Hi! I hope to find this wx bnha au fic where wwx is an (supposed) quirkless inventor (but actually can manipulate resentmen but choose to hide it) and ceo of his self-made company which provides heroes with cool and innovative equipment with a name like Wi-fi industries or smth and he's also single father with teenager or uni student wei sizhui who works at reception here. basically it starts w twin jades requesting him to improve their weapons, lwj falls head over heels for our genius boi who is not at all opposed to his advances, and they also uncover jgs's plot taking over all sects w helps of jgy and xy (who also manipulates resentment) while being shamelessly in love w eo. I definitely remember that the name of this fic goes like "free wi-fi for heroes" but I couldn't find it anywhere :( I would greatly appreciate if u can find this fic
FOUND? Free Wifi for Heroes by JJSparrow (E, 50k, WangXian, Modern AU, Pro Heroes, Switching, Engineer!WWX, Hero!LWJ, CEO!WWX,Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Inventor!WWX, Top! LWJ, Top! WWX, Bottom! LWJ, Bottom! WWX, Explicit Sexual Content, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Fluff, Fluff and Smut, First Kiss, First Time)
~*~
6. Hi! I am looking for a smut fic I read a while back. In it, post-canon, married wangxian are on a nighthunt and wwx gets turned into a tentacle monster from the waist down. He can’t move around on land and is stuck in a particular pool until it wears off, so he and lwj have some fun and act out a couple of roleplay scenarios. Thank you for the work that you do!
7. hi! I’m trying to find this one wangxian fic where Lan Zhan stumbles across his mother’s family. Wangxian is sort of the background here, with Lan Zhan and his relationship with his long-lost relatives being the focus. His mother’s family are all tailors/clothesmakers. There was a scene early on where Lan Zhan has to tell his grandparents what happened to their daughter and it broke my heart so good, I just HAVE to reread it. If you could help me, I’d very much appreciate it!! @knightcorvidae
16. Hi! There is a fic where LZ takes the sword meant for WY at the battlefield instead of jiang yanli. Lz almost dies and lxc finds him like that. He thinks wy killed him and banishes him from near his brother. LXC keeps LWJ alive through a soul bond(?) between brothers and take him to qinghe to recovery instead of cloud recesses with nie mingjue. Lwj stays there in a coma for like 13 years. LXC asks the lans to keep the matter of LWJ being alive hidden from wwx. Lxc hates wwx.
Before losing conciousness lwj asks lxc to pardon wwx. Lxc asks his sect to not kill wwx.
In the meantime WY thinks he gravely injured lz and goes to cloud recesses to seek punishment, there he hears that LZ is dead from LQR and lan elders. WY screams gutwrenchingly and by thing LQR realises that WY actually loved LZ. But he cannot tell anything to wy because lxc forbade him.
I think wwx receives the 33 lashes? but I'm not sure. He stays at cloud recesses and WY's psyche gets worse and worse through the years.
LWJ wakes after 13 years
After 13 nhs asks wy to come to qinghe and sends him a map to the place. Nhs doesn't tell wy lwj is alive.
Wwx at this point reallt believes that lwj is dead.
At unclean realm wy finds lwj w lxc and thinks he is a hallucination and breaks down. His mental state is so fucking sad it takes him a long while to accept lwj is real. Lwj is also mad at lxc because he has asked lxc to make sure wwx is okay yet wwx mental state is in shambles because lxc hid lwj being alive from wwx.
[JC's daddy meets JFM]
AllCheng (RuoCheng focused) | Mo Dao Zu Shi Modern AU 10-04-2021
[#allcheng (slightly ruocheng focused)- modern]
Of course, jfm couldn't leave it at that and he/ needed/ to know. So he may or may not have learned what his son had been up to all this time and that he had never told him after snooping around (even wwx seemed to know some of it?!).
To say he didn't like the idea was an understatement. He hated it. How could his son not only be with an older man, but /five/ of them at the same time, one of which was an old business rival of his!
He tried contacting jc, but he was either too busy to talk (which now he knew /why/) or wouldn't pick up, so he decided to go to his apartment without notice. The semester had restarted, he shouldn’t be travelling around too much now, was he?
He had to ask wwx for the address, coming rather late in the morning to make sure his son would be awake, having no clue if the young man was working on the weekends. He was surprised by how big and expensive the place seemed to be, wondering how he could afford it (although he had his own suspicion).
He still went for it, only to not have his son open the door for him. Oh no, far from that, he wished it had been anyone else.
Wrh was standing in the doorway, only wearing pyjama bottoms, looking as if he had woken up only moments ago. There was a silence when they suddenly got face to face, only for wrh to smirk a bit. “How can I help you, jfm?”. Jfm doesn’t really have the time to argue anything when a voice comes from deeper in the apartment, footsteps coming closer to them. “A-han is it lxh? I thought he said he would pass only tomorrow to help me with my homework”.
Then an even bigger and more awkward silence fell on everyone when he finally saw his father, suddenly feeling that the only thing he was wearing was wrh shirt (which thankfully was too big and hide him rather well even though he was wearing underwear). He asked what he was doing here, trying not to sound too bad, seriously surprised because he did /not/ remember ever giving him his address (not that jfm ever asked about it in the first place).
“Can’t I visit my own son to make sure everything is alright?” he receives, clearly eyeing wrh, which jc doesn’t know /how/ to explain his presence, even less with all the scratch marks on his back (he really did that?) and the hickeys he had been allowed to place on his chest. He was probably no better, wrh just loving leaving tonnes of marks on the inside of his tights, knowing there were probably still some leftover marks from the restraint he had the night before.
It would be hard the deny what he had done.
He wanted to just say he had things to do, but jfm kind of forced his way in, telling him he /knew/ what he was up to. This only made jc nervous, thankfully wrh was here to keep him relaxed, moving them back to the kitchen so they could sit down. Clearly, jfm was not going to let it go and it was probably better if jc could just sit down and not worry.
It was hard to do when pictures were slapped on the table, showing him with his different lovers, either too affectionate or straight-up kissing in some. He was so screwed, jfm knew and now he was so disappointed He was taken out of his panic by a hand gently going through his hair, still wavy from the tight braid he had the day before. It helped him relax, going back to what he had settled for in the past months.
So what if jfm was disappointed? It had always been like this and now he was living /for himself/.
The following request for him to stop all this and stop acting in such ways wasn’t really that surprising. He was pretty sure jfm was probably even restraining himself not to say he was acting like a whore (he knew some people would think like this, but he didn’t care, he loved all of them the same anyway).
“And why should I listen to you? I thought you had made it clear enough that you didn’t care much about me anymore, I don’t see why I should care about your demands”. He tried sounding confident in his words, yet his hands were shaking under the table, so unused to talking back like this and outright /refusing/ anything his father was telling him.
The effect was good, as jfm looked rather stunned by his words, only once had jc really gone against him and it was when they argued after the young man changed his study course entirely without telling them.
“/you/ decided I wasn’t worth putting any attention and love into, I simply found people who saw my worth and decided to do what you never did: love and appreciate me without intendable expectation,” jc said, starting to feel much more confident now that jfm wasn’t immediately adding anything (and that wrh was sitting close to him).
“/I/ decided I would live for myself and found what seemed good for me, /I/ decided to be the Jiang Cheng /I/ was, not the one you wanted me to be, which was basically setting myself up for pain and disappointment”.
His shaking as slowly went from nervous to angry, years of repressed anger and frustration finally coming to the surface. He felt like it was now that he needed to say what he needed or he would never find the same courage to do so.
“/you/ decided to never be there for me. Had an archery competition? Of course, couldn’t come, too busy with work, but wwx teacher was doing an art gallery for his class? Of course, you were there. Got badly sick at school one time and again you couldn’t come when you knew damn well mother was away and couldn’t either. But the time jyl was slightly sick you would come and get her, same for wwx. I never decided to push you away, you just never tried to keep me close to you as I was slowly crumbling down.”
Jfm didn’t miss the trilled and proud look wrh had throughout jc monologue, the young man kept on finding things jfm had done to fail at being a good father. He was so proud because jc was being honest and bold about what he thought, something he had slowly pushed him towards. Talking like this had clearly been something jc wouldn’t have been able to do when he first started helping the young man.
“I was not enough for you so I found people for whom I was more than enough, and you have /no idea/ just how much better I am doing now, having people recognise what I do and who are able to give me some praise”.
“So all you are looking for is praises?”.
Jc frowned at this, only to turn towards wrh when he heard him give a dry laugh “As always, you do not listen when you are being told something” he simply commented.
Then jfm proceed to try and say if it was praise, he wanted, he had praised him before. To which jc didn’t even let him finish with a “Don’t you dare. When was the last time in the past ten years you ever praised me because you were genuinely proud of what I did and not to make wwx shine even more in comparison to me”.
The silence and thinking were enough of an answer, making him both angry and wanting to cry. He already knew his father had given up on ever having anything good from jc for what /he wanted/ from him (because of course, jc doing good in anything else was just a waste of time).
“How pathetic, you cannot find anything in the past years yet I can find tone in the past days?” wrh asked, clearly loving how he was getting under jfm skin with how much he seemed to know more about jc than he did (and he was his father!). “a-cheng did really great in his latest culinary test, managed to create an interesting menu for a class which was in the top five for his class, kept on working hard in his study while working at the same time” he continued a little bit more, saying all things jc had done greatly lately, many being academic because it's as most likely what jfm valued the most.
“and you cannot even find one in ten years” he simply finished.
There was a silence between all of them. After some time, jc simply pushed back to photos of his father. “I found people that I love and love me back, I won’t give it all up because someone who doesn’t even spare me a glance other than if it can possibly stain his reputation is asking me to” simply stated.
He stopped him when he was about to talk again, cutting him yet another time like he would have never dared in the past. “You should go, clearly you are not open to understanding me and I am /not/ open to changing what I am doing now”.
There was more silence, before jfm took back his papers, stood up and left. This somehow made jc both relieved that he wouldn’t argue more against the small good he had found (the first in years!) but also disappointed that he didn’t even want to put some effort into understanding his own son.
Only when he heard the door shut that he finally stood up on shaky legs, wrh sliding his chair back a bit so he could straddle him, his arms hooking around the older man quickly, hiding in the crook of his neck, only then allowing himself to feel upset.
This had been a bit too much for him, too much anger, disappointment and hurt at the same time. All because jfm refused yet again to see who jc was and not impose who he wanted him to be. “It’s alright a-cheng” he heard gently whispered, arms keeping him close, a hand gently rubbing his back. “You did nothing wrong, you even did very well in finally saying what was bothering you, it is not your fault he decided not to listen, we are all here for you if you need it”. He kept on gently reassuring him, whispering sweet nothing by time just so he would calm down.
Yes, jc had made the right choice. He was truly better off with them, he wouldn’t need to change who he was for them to be happy about him. “How did it feel?” he heard after some time, still holding tightly to wrh.
“good” he replied after a moment.
It truly felt good to finally let it all out.
And here it is~ the drabble based on the results of these three polls (extra poll) – A WangXian Soulmate AU ~ CW: Mentions of Allergies and potential Allergic reaction, WWX purposely ignoring an allergy (ex. Wei Ying wants to eat an almond joy but is allergic to almonds)
It turned into a crack fic 😅 I hope you all enjoy it ~ And hey, I ended up using all three quotes anyway 😂
--Start--
"Wei Ying! No!" Lan Zhan exclaimed as soon as he caught sight of his soulmate. Wei Ying startled at his sudden appearance, turning to him with wide eyes and a slightly guilty expression, his hand bringing the candy bar to his mouth froze in place.
"Those have real almonds in them, why would you eat that if you were allergic?" Lan Zhan asked, horrified as he took the opened almond joy away from his boyfriend, suddenly grateful he entered the kitchen not a second later, "Where did you even get this?"
There definitely shouldn't have been any type of almonds in the house, let alone anywhere Wei Ying could accidentally or purposely get to them.
"Huaisang keeps saying how good it is! I wanted to try it!" Wei Ying whined, making grabby hands at the candy bar, "Come on, just a bite Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying gave him his best pout, he could see his Lan Zhan waver briefly before his stance firmed back up.
"No."
"But I'm not even that allergic to it! I'll just get watery eyes and an itchy mouth." Wei Ying defended, "Plus it's my body not yours!"
Lan Zhan shot him a Look.
"It may not be my body, but it is a body that holds a soul I care for very much and can not live without. Even the universe agrees." He said, with a pointed glance at the soulmark clearly visible due to Wei Ying's choice of slouchy tank top, Lan Zhan's matching mark was covered by his t-shirt.
Wei Ying flushed slightly, "Lan Zhan."
Ugh, why did his boyfriend have to take them being soulmates so seriously? It makes Wei Ying's heart melt.
He could still remember the day they realized it, it was a business event he went to with the Jiāngs. Everyone was dressed to the nines, alcohol was flowing, people were mingling; and Lan Zhan had decked Wen Chao after he attempted to throw a drink at Wei Ying for a reason he can't really recall anymore.
Attempted, because Lan Zhan had swiftly stepped in front of the line of fire just as Wei Ying prepared himself for the splash of cold amber colored liquid. His fancy shirt got completely ruined even with Wei Ying immediately dragging the other to the bathroom in hopes of saving it.
Seeing the soul mark on Lan Zhan's shoulder was the cherry on top of the cake that night (the cake obviously being watching Lan Zhan giving Wen Chao a black eye....and maybe also seeing Lan Zhan wipe his bare chest and abs down with a wet paper towel).
Wei Ying couldn't deny the pull he had towards the other since even before that incident, though. Constantly following after the other, making excuses to see him, hanging out with him whenever he could, touching him and teasing him a ridiculous amount. Seriously, his thoughts practically consisted of Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan 24/7.
Finding out they were soulmates just made sense. And Lan Zhan loved to remind him of it every day. Wei Ying is honestly surprised he hasn't combusted from all the blushing he does when Lan Zhan says literally anything sweet or romantic. Or even worse, teasing.
Lan Zhan softened, "Wei Ying, my love, I would hate to see you in any amount of pain, almond joy is not worth it."
"How would you know!? You don't even like almonds." Wei Ying pouted.
"Wei Ying, please. I will make you a homemade almond joy without the almonds. Please, don't risk your health for a simple candy bar."
Wei Ying perked up, "You can do that? Would it actually taste like a real almond joy?"
"It will taste even better." Lan Zhan promised with no hesitation.
Wei Ying hummed, eyes narrowed in thought.
Lan Zhan was surprisingly good at baking. Maybe he really could find an almond-less almond joy recipe or even make one up himself. Either way, it was obvious he wasn't gonna get to taste the candy bar any time soon.
Wei Ying sighed, "Fine. I won't eat it."
Lan Zhan instantly relaxed, going to throw the candy bar in the trash, "Good. They suck anyway."
Wei Ying squawked in surprise, laughter rising up, loud and bright, a fond smile crossing Lan Zhan's face at the sound.
"Lan Zhan! Don't let Huaisang hear you say that! He practically worships them!"
"Mn." Lan Zhan washed his hands before coming back to the island where Wei Ying sat.
"Take a nap with me." He said, gently easing Wei Ying from the bar stool by his thighs, Wei Ying instantly wrapped his legs around Lan Zhan's waist in response, arms slipping over his shoulders
"Okay." Wei Ying rolled his eyes fondly, "You don't have to carry me, Lan Zhan. I can walk."
"I know." Lan Zhan replies, heading off to the bedroom without once letting go of him.
Wei Ying pressed a soft smile against his shoulder, right where their soulmark was.
Two bunnies (one white and one black) curled around each other, the same position they fall into as soon as they hit the mattress.
