"Close" | Eddie Munson
pairing: Eddie Munson X Fem Reader
summary: Eddie is teaching you how to DM, but what you don't realize is how close the two of you get throughout the night.
warnings: tooth-rotting fluff
word count: 1.3k
a/n: Just thought we could use some fluff in our lives.
*******NOT MY GIF, CREDIT TO OWNERS*******

When I showed up in the drama room before the weekly Hellfire game, Eddie thought I was lost. Just by the clothes I was wearing and the smile on my face he thought this was some prank from the jocks. He told me later on that he thought “there was no way that someone like you, someone so pretty and normal was interested in Dungeons and Dragons.”
But I was, I love D&D actually. Always have, well since my friends at my old school dragged me along to the first club meeting that year, but I fell in love instantly. The way you can just transform into someone else and not care about the shit going on in the outside world was a dream come true for me.
Once Eddie and I got to talking we hit it off, he was a god at being a DM and I loved that because my last one just wanted to kill all the players as fast as possible as if it were a race to see how many he could off before anyone got into the real storyline.
“So meet at my place around 8? My uncle should be at work by then so we can have the place to ourselves.” Eddie was walking with me to my next class after lunch. The two of us were planning on joint DMing a campaign and wanted to get together soon to start planning.
“That should work. Man, I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they see me sitting in the throne for the campaign!”
“Woah there sweetheart, the throne in there is mine. But I’ll gladly have you on my lap,” Eddie whispers at me before winking.
I just laughed and punched him in the arm, “In your dreams lover boy,” We reach my classroom after the short walk from the cafeteria, “See you later Eds.”
“Bye sweetheart,” Eddie waves at you before heading off to his own class.
---
The school day couldn’t have gone by slower. The anticipation for tonight was gnawing at my stomach all day. I’ve always been interested in being a DM but never had the chance, so when I approached Eddie with the idea I was fully prepared for him to shoot it down.
To both my luck and surprise he agreed to teach me and help me with a joint campaign to get my feet wet in the Dungeon Master pool. I had almost every book on D&D, reading them late at night when I should’ve been studying for my tests. They were just too fascinating to put down once picked up.
Once I heard the high pitch screech of the school bell dismissing us for the day I was out of my seat and through those doors before my teacher could even give me the homework. I’ll just get it from May tomorrow. I headed straight home to get prepared for tonight, not that this was a date or anything. I just wanted to look good because this is the first time Eddie and I have hung out one on one since we met.
By the time 8 rolls around I’m already dressed and prepared to see Eddie. I’m going a little out of my confort zone with this outfit because I’m not wearing a bra which is weird for me. The white tank top I have on doing nothing at hiding my nipples and the attached nipple piercings. It’s starting to get colder outside so I threw on some loose fitting jeans and a leather jacket to complete the look before I was off to Eddie’s trailer.
Truth be told, I wanted to wear something that involved a skirt because I notice the way Eddie’s eyes travel to my thighs when I wear one but I also felt like that was coming off too strong, so I decided against it. This shirt will have to do for now.
The drive was short and quiet, the only noice being the wind blowing in from my windows and the animals outside. I reach Eddie’s house and hop out my car, grabbing my bag out the passenger’s seat before heading towards the door.
Just like Eddie said his uncle was at work since I didn’t see his truck outside next to Eddie’s van. I walk up the steps and knock on the door a few times until I hear the lock click and am met with a bright faced Eddie.
“Right on time, come on in.” Eddie opens the door a little more allowing me to walk inside, “Make yourself at home.”
The place is cozy and nice, hats and mugs are hung from the walls in the living room. My eyes scan around, taking in the place Eddie calls home.
“Want a drink?” Eddie offers from the kitchenette to my left.
“Coke if you have it please. If not water’s fine,” I reply, sitting down on the couch. Eddie returns with a Coke for me and a beer for himself.
Eddie couldn’t take his eyes off me as I took the Coke from him, the way my nipples just barely peeked out from beind the leather, showing him the faint outline of my piercings. It was killing him not being able to touch me the way he wanted, to feel me underneath him.
Eddie clears his throat, “So where do we begin?”
---
A few hours later Eddie and I are sitting on the couch, looking over all the pages of notes and open books on the coffee table in front of us. We’ve been going over the base plot line for the campaign for a while now and just need to figure out monsters and level up points.
“I think it would be wise to level them up just before the Ogre caves so that way they won’t get immediately killed you know?”
“I hear that but if we level them up then, we would have level 3 players fighting level 9 monsters in the next town.”
“Shit right, okay what if we,” I think for a minute, taking a quick drink of my third Coke of the night, “I got nothin’.”
Eddie is still looking at the book in front of us, his leg bouncing up and down quickly showing how anxious he is at the moment. I look up from where I’m staring when I feel the movement, my eyes immediately locking with the point where our legs are touching.
My gaze then raises to our arms, his shoulder squished against mine, the muscles flexing as he plays with the rings on his fingers. I took off my jacket a while ago, getting too hot with excitement as we talked about the storyline. Now it felt like my skin was on fire, his heat engulfing me as we sat side by side.
Eddie must have noticed my staring and stopped looking at the books and looked at me. His gaze follows mine when he notices it’s not focused on his own. And once he does notice what my gaze was focused on, he gets even more nervous, his eyes growing wide at the sight.
The softness of my skin on his and the rough feeling of my jeans on his skin through the holes in his own is like heaven to him. He wishes I would stop looking at his arms and look at his eyes because he needs to read my full expression.
As if I read his mind my eyes lock with his, the brown orbs he has containing nothing but warmth in return. The two of us just sit like that for a full minute, neither one of us wanting to break the connection we have. I can see the mix of emotions behind his eyes, the conflict of what to do next. I’m sure he can see my emotions too, fighting and slowly losing the battle to not lean in and kiss him.
I can clearly see the moment when his restraint snaps, the way his eyes darken and become softer at the same time. He leans in slowly, so aganizingly slowly, he doesn’t want to scare me away, he’s giving me an out. But I don’t take it. Instead I take my hand and put it in his hair before pulling his face to mine, locking our lips in a long awaited kiss.

Tumblr media
I never noticed this line from Masquerade Sebek before, but it surprised me how he mentions that his cape resembles bird feathers. His cape is only on his right, and Silver’s cape mirrors his by being on his left.
Tumblr media
In Sebek’s groovy, we get a better shot of the cape from the back, and it certainly does resemble a bird’s feathers. It’s specifically mentioned that Sebek and Silver’s outfits were made to compliment Malleus as “his knights.” The paralleled dragon wings definitely got a lot of attention, but I never realized this part about both of their capes!
Tumblr media
I am a firm believer that the Halloween events in particular are special cases of foreshadowing the late game. There’s a reason why it’s such a huge event every year, with even unique, animated trailers (a treatment only the opening and dorm trailers have gotten). So I wonder if this was a reference to not only the live action Maleficent, but to Levan (Malleus’ father). In the live action, Maleficent turns Diaval from a crow into a human, telling him she “needs him to be her wings.” Levan was similarly compared to this, by being Meleanor’s “eyes, limbs, and husband.” (Translation credits to GasMask on YouTube🐦‍⬛)
Edit: Also a potential parallel to Meleanor specifically, with Silver and Sebek forming the “left and right generals” to Malleus, who heavily resembles her
Tumblr media
Silver and Sebek’s wings put together make a fully winged cape, not only the dragon wings on their shoulders, but the feathered wings as well. This seems like yet another homage to both Meleanor and Levan, with the combination of dragon and bird (it has not yet been confirmed what type of Fae Levan is, but his overall character seems to be inspired by Diablo and Diaval, Maleficent’s ravens). I believe the closest other example of a winged cape would be Crowley.
Tumblr media
And as I was watching more of Glorious Masquerade today, these lines stuck out to me. In-universe, these masquerade outfits were patterned from designs from over 500 YEARS ago. The people of the City of Flowers would emulate nobles, royalty, merchants, and knights for festival periods. Now, I’m sure Noble Bell College were able to design such fitting designs for the NRC boys because it’s revealed that Crowley gave Rollo A LOT of documents relating to the students. So I’m sure the patterns were adjusted and decorated to fit each individual student with the information they got regarding their background and dorm.
Tumblr media
But over 500 years ago is an interesting number, don’t you think? Sebek remarks that he’s amazed that an attire outside of Briar Valley could elevate Malleus’s elegance and beauty. But…what if that’s not the case? What if Malleus’ outfit was patterned after a Briar Valley outfit from over 500 years ago? Or rather, specifically inspired by Levan’s outfit?
Tumblr media
Levan was in charge of foreign affairs and was a diplomat. He was an reputable and excellent envoy (a messenger or representative for diplomatic missions). Shockingly in Book 7, when General Lilia was traveling the world to try and find ways to hatch Eggleus, he went to the City of Flowers. I’m sure the story of Meleanor and the Human-Fae war was twisted by the Silver Owls, so the City of Flowers turned on the Fae during that time period. So what if there was a time before the war that Levan visited the City of Flowers? (Translation credits to OtomeAyui🐦‍⬛)
Tumblr media
I am running woefully low on mobile photo post limits lmao, but if you look at the masquerade outfit designs, Malleus’ is the most distinct. His overall outfit definitely has the City of Flowers flair, but look at the others- where there are themes of shoulder pads, and ruffles and thicker cloth at the sleeves. Yet Malleus’ is the only one with transparent sleeves that expose his arms, and a square neckline. Why is only one outfit patterned so far from the traditional norm? (Playful Land Lilia was also said to have this distinctive and old style of neckline compared to the rest of his classmates, so it’s been theorized that this is/was potentially a fashion trend in Briar Valley).
In the above photo, I’m also surprised at how Malleus’ mask curves a little to resemble a beak. With Malleus’ shoulder feathers that have infamously been noted amongst the fandom to resemble Crowley’s, Malleus seems to have a raven theme with the mask and black feathers.
Tumblr media
And bringing back what Rollo said about 500 years, in Book 7 we visit Lilia’s dream that first begins 400 years ago. 500 years ago is when Lilia received an admissions letter from NRC. I can’t say for sure when the Human-Fae war started, but Levan went missing around 100 years after. The point is- he was around during that 500 year time period that Rollo mentioned
So…all in all, I suppose this isn’t some lore-shattering theory/headcanon haha, but I wonder if Levan, in one of his previous diplomatic missions, visited the City of Flowers pre Human-Fae war. The way I envision it, Levan established a relationship with the City. After all, Lilia and Meleanor describe him as a kind man who sought to reunite all kinds of human and Fae together. So while he was there, some locals took note of his attire- perhaps even sketching him as well. Remember what Rollo said of the city taking inspiration for festival clothes from royalty and nobles, which Levan fits perfectly under that description. This was before the war, so the locals were kind and not afraid of him, unlike how they were with Lilia post-war
And through some twisted hand of fate, Malleus was best suited for the pattern inspired by his own father from 500 years ago. Perhaps Silver and Sebek’s cape resembling bird feathers were patterned after Levan’s wings as well? Because even though NBC definitely made unique outfits for the NRC students, why does Diasomnia of all dorms have this feather and raven theme? 👀
Tumblr media
I like the implications that Crowley has been to the City of Flowers before haha. It’s a very nice and safe place, he says 🌸🐦‍⬛

YOU FIGHT ON THE COLONISERS SIDE IN SUMERU?!?!
I’m honestly losing track of all the bullshit going on with Sumeru, mihoyo, what the fuck, how are you this bad? For my own sake I'm putting all this nonsense in one place.
Sumeru is a nation in Genshin Impact, like all other nations it’s based off a real world culture. Mondstadt: Germany, Liyue: China, Inazuma: Japan, Snezhaya: Russia, Fontaine: France, Natlan: South America and Africa, Sumeru: SWANA countries (note the non-white/east Asian cultures are just lumped together rather than being separate, distinct cultures.)
First inklings of the problems to come with Sumeru were apparent with the travelling npcs, who are all incredibly pale. They look exactly like the white npcs. Pale SWANA people exist, but they are the minority, the Sumeru npcs we see should not all be so pale. Mihoyo has a long history of colourism, out of the 48 playable characters only 2 are darker than milk, there are no darker skinned npcs, the majority of the non-white playable are paler than most white people. In their other game, Honkai Impact there is only one character with a darker skin tone than milk, that is Carole Pepper, who has slight tan. Despite how pale she already is a major characteristic of her is that she hates how dark her skin is. I repeat one of the main characteristics of Honkai’s only non-white coloured character is that she hates her skin tone. Mihoyo has shown themselves to be consistently colourist before, including how they characterised there only slightly darker skinned characters, Kaeya and Xinyan, both being described as more aggressive than their paler counterparts.
Then designs for Sumeru were released. Not only were they white as fuck, but there designs were quite frankly messy. In the case of Tighnari there was no discernible connection to SWANA culture, and in the case of Doir, she is straight up an orientalist caricature of Indian culture rather than SWANA culture, so they couldn’t even get their caricatures to stick to one region. The conflation of SWANA cultures with each other and non SWANA cultures is a form of racism/orientalism and is unacceptable. The orientalism that is Dori falls in line with the larger misogynistic trend in Genshin Impact, virtually all girls who aren't aren't little children are sexualised/fetishized in some way, with high heels, objectifying outfits, and egregious amount skin shown (something not shared with the vast majority of their male counterparts). This objectification is especially dangerous with the SWANA characters as it is this fetishization and objectification that has been used to justify and condone sexual violence against SWANA women. More details about Dori were released, which showed her riding a genie like it was an animal which people criticised as being disrespectful due to genies being based off the Djinn of Islamic belief.
Then the archon was leaked. And she was a white elf child with a generic Isekai design and absolutely no connection to any SWANA. I repeat, the leader of a supposedly SWANA coded nation has nothing SWANA about her. Her whiteness is even more egregious as a 2D cutscene showed her as a brown skinned adult. Not long after this the trailer for Sumeru dropped. With generic and not very good ‘oriental’ music playing it showed a tropical jungle landscape. Tropical jungles don’t really exist in SWANA countries, don’t get me wrong they do have vast beautiful forests but this didn't resemble them in the slightest. Instead of a) showing how cultures can flourish in desert landscapes as SWANA cultures have done for millennia and the plants that can and do grow there. Or b) showing an accurate depiction of the actual forests that exist in SWANA countries, dispelling some widespread myths about the area. But instead they just went with a jungle. During this trailer we also got to see some of the architecture with only slithers of it referencing actual SWANA architecture.
It was right around this time that Mihoyo themselves put out the terrible defence of ‘it’s just a fantasy world, it’s all cool bro, stop being so mad’ an abysmal defence that doesn’t hold up in their own considering how extensively Mondstadt, Liyue and Inazuma were based on Germany, China and Japan respectively. The level of research and care that went into making these areas and the characters from these areas is what makes Sumeru such a slap in the face. Not helped by the names being accurate. The names of the Sumeru characters are accurate, which shows that Mihoyo is in fact capable of doing research into SWANA cultures and putting it into their game, proving that the orientalist caricature was a choice.
More designs were released, more orientalism. Then the harbingers dropped, a pretty blatant distraction tactic from the racist mess that is Sumeru, with people noting noting that this sliver of Russian culture has more care an accuracy than most of Sumeru.
A couple more Sumeru designs were released/leaked, hinted at being dark skin before release but in fact had the world's slightest tan. These were Dehya and Cyno, who are Eremites, the indigenous people of Sumeru and now live in the desert (keep that in mind.) There was also the release of the desert bandits, enemy npcs who hilariously are noted as being more accurate than the playable characters. The enemies you fight are more accurate than the playable characters (though they still are incredibly inaccurate, especially the women), this will become darker with the recent release of Sumeru’s backstory.
Now the backstory of Sumeru has apparently been released, with a rough summary of it being: the eremites (the indigenous people of Sumeru who are for some reason named after a type of Christian hermit) lived in harmony in Sumeru before the Scarlet king fought the original Dendro archon, creating the desert. The dendro archon subsequently forced the indingenous people to the desert and built a wall. They built a wall to keep out the indigenous people they kicked out, and the enemies you fight are from the desert, i.e. you’re fighting the indigenous people of sumeru, on the side of the coloniser. Genshin already has a history of anti-indigenous racism with the hilichurls, humanoid beasts, countless of which you slaughter, with native americans used as reference for their behaviour. People have also pointed out the uncomfortable parallels to the Israeli genocide of Palestine, white people forcing out the darker skinned indigenous people whilst also claiming to be the ones who are causing it to bloom.
Whilst we don’t know how this plot will end, considering the track record of genshin and other companies the plot is unfortunately likely going to resolve with, ‘the indigenous people and colonisers should just get along.’
Pretty much every single thing about Sumeru is racist and orientalist in someway and it just gets worse with every new update.
An especially annoying part is the fans so insistent on denying and defending a fucking gacha game of all things, showing how racist they are in both their support and defense of this mess.
Fuck genshin, fuck mihoyo, and fuck the fans defending it.
I am quite frankly terrified for how they will handle natlan, a South American and African coded nation.

It's me again! I hope that you don't mind me chatting you up, just say so if you do, I'll understand! 😅
Do you think that Hassel can be originally from Johto? Since Blackthorn City is a home of probably the most well-known active dragon clan in the series so far (since Draconids, the people Zinnia's from, are mostly gone)? I've seen theories that the little cape Hassel has on his jacket is a call back to the capes "dragon tamer" trainer class has (and I'm mostly agreeing with this). And when I thought about it, I had this idea: What if Hassel's first pokemon wasn't the baxcalibur that's his ace now, but the dragonite he uses in the school champion tournament? Since the dragon clan from Blackthorn mostly uses the dratini line. What if he got that dragonite as a dratini when he was a kid and raised it his whole life, and now kinda retired it after a lifetime of battling? Baxcalibur is his main now during champion assesment, but he brings out dragonite for some friendly competition every once in a while, like the school championship. And, of course, that would mean that Hassel, Lance and Claire are distantly related.
Oh and I think that Hassel is totally besties with Rika. Gay/lesbian solidarity who go to brunches together. I think that it would be a fun contrast between his husband being such a grandiose artistic mind and his bestie being a very grounded and sober-thinking person.
Oh my god, could you imagine if the DLC will allow us to have some kind of a gym leader/elite four doubles tournament like they did in SWSH? If I'll get to see Hassel and Brassius fight together in doubles as partners I think that I will explode.
I'm also super excited to see them both in the anime and maybe, down the line, in masters. And I hope that they will somehow will return/be referenced in the DLCs- the first one is a school trip, so maybe Hassel will go as a chaperone.
And I totally get you about fanfics and such- I'd love to write something for them one day, when I will have a specific concept in mind. I'm thoroughly disappointed that I can't find any character studies for them, my favorite genre 😔 do you have any headcanons you'd like to share? 👀
You're definitely not alone on pretty much all of those >:D
Again, under a cut because I'm long-winded lol
I've got Hassel from Johto, Galar, or a region we haven't been to yet. Regardless of which region, I figure all the dragon clans are connected in some way so he's cousins with Lance and Clair in some sort of way. The childhood dratini -> semi-retired dragonite is definitely one I've seen and discussed before. I think the fic where Hassel rescues/nurtures a sick baby one isn't on AO3 but it's cemented for me that he's had it since he was young <3
The cape is a nice visual to connect him to other dragon tamers and it being short and part of his jacket also separates him from the dramatic looks of Lance and Clair
I think Rika teases Hassel for being old and out of touch but it's just friendly banter. I hope she was the one who told him about "fleek" over a cup of coffee with pastries.
I pray so hard for them teaming up for double battles (my drawing of them in a silly double battle pose) and/or for them to be at the festival at all (I drew them in the outfits from the trailer). I'm hoping for crumbs at most but I definitely want so much more of these two. They're so interesting.
I am so impatient to see Hassel in the anime. Besides that I love him, I also need to see him moving in 2D so I can figure out how to draw him better/more easily because he gives me so much trouble 😅. I want to know what kind of voice they give him too. Brassius' voice surprised me but it worked really well and wasn't distracting
If they end up in Masters, then I will be downloading Masters. God I want to see them put in funky alternate outfits. And whatever else happens in that game.
I'm super self-conscious about writing (and as you can imagine from my drawings, I'm all about that soft, tender shit) so most things I write pretty much live on Discord
I'm a little head-empty right now so the only headcanon that immediately comes to mind is that Brassius being ill and them spending a lot of quiet time together while Hassel helps care for him gave them both time to figure out their feelings and they don't do anything about it until after Brassius is better.

LAIKA movies
Ira and I visited Seattle at the end of August, and happened upon the Laika exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture. In the exhibit were tons of the sets, models, armatures, and clothing from all their movies. Seeing it all made me realize that for how much I’ve thought of Laika as an amazing studio and how impressive I thought Coraline and Kubo were… I’d actually only ever seen those two. So we decided to get caught up on the rest together, in release order.
Tumblr media
ParaNorman
I felt nothing about this movie
The Boxtrolls
Tumblr media
Damn, this one was great. I’m trying to remember why I never watched it; I think I must’ve just read the name and blurb and was uninterested. Clearly I never saw a trailer for it, because the setting and designs are gorgeous and incredibly unique. I love the fucked-up, stupid Cheese England setting, I love all of the costume design, I love the Boxtrolls themselves and how they move (especially the tandem platforming in the intro).
This one did strike me how it felt like a bridge between the more character-focused, close-in shots of Coraline (and ParaNorman) and the wide, sweeping landscape shots featured more heavily in Kubo (and Missing Link). While Coraline certainly had its large setpieces (the house is obviously iconic), it feels like this is the turning point where they started working more on showing off huge vistas to lend a larger sense of place to their worlds. The mountain cave Kubo and his mom live in was my ur-example of this; the lingering establishing shot of Cheesebridge from Boxtrolls now supplants it.
One of the things that stood out to me in the exhibit that I hadn’t considered much before was all the clothing. I guess, somehow, I imagined they were just part of the model, like you’d do in claymation… but in fact each character has separate, fully sewn and handcrafted outfits that are put onto and worn by the armatures. Seeing it in person was pretty incredible; there’s tons of tiny details nearly too small to see, let alone create, and lots of them seemed to be made with custom fabric / textiles to get the exact shades and patterns they wanted. With that fresh and front of mind, watching this movie was honestly pretty staggering. The texturework alone on the outfits of all the nobility and the snatchers…
Deborah Cook is the head costume designer at Laika, which I’m writing down here in hopes that I remember it.
Kubo and the Two Strings
Tumblr media
I saw this one when it first came out, actually, and was somewhat disappointed. I think that while I liked the aesthetic, animation and action, I felt let down by the narrative and writing - I remember coming out of the movie thinking that every joke fell flat, all of the dialogue felt slightly off, and the wider narrative didn’t conclude in a way that felt particularly satisfying.*
Holy shit, it hit different seven years later.
I started to crack within the first five minutes, as Kubo tends to his catatonic mother who can’t even feed or clothe herself on her own anymore. Then, as night falls, she becomes alert enough to talk to him again, even if some of the words are wrong, even if she’s forgotten a thing or two, even if she can’t quite finish some of her sentences… and then as quickly as the lucidity came, it goes again, leaving her incommunicable. Why yes, certainly, as someone who in that seven year time gap has spent a lot of time dealing with a parent with Alzheimer’s, yes, that scene certainly did have a wholly different connotation to it, and yes, it certainly did immediately make me cry before even establishing much of the story’s premise.
The dialogue landed quite differently to me this time around, as well as the tone of the movie in general. I think my first impression may have just been an expectations issue; obviously animation doesn’t (and shouldn't) have to be aimed solely at younger audiences, but in western productions it almost always is, so I think I went in expecting a certain amount of levity. Instead, the movie is just intentionally pretty god damn serious the whole time. Monkey is grim nearly the whole movie - her introduction scene consists of her giving Kubo a sharp reality check and telling him there’s no more room for fuckups, and any jokes she gets to make are usually at someone else’s expense. Beetle has some great line deliveries that break the tension, but the jokes themselves are never laugh out loud funny.
The thing is, this kinda just makes sense - the leads are in a bad fucking situation and the movie takes it seriously. The movie is about Kubo, a child, who above all else Must Not Go Outside at night because his grandfather ripped his eyeball out and wants to rip out the other one, Going Outside Anyway and getting his entire village destroyed as a result. After spending the entire journey with Monkey and Beetle, he realizes they’re his parents only moments before they are killed in front of his eyes. The movie tries to end on an uplifting note by swelling the music and presenting an uplifting voiceover, but there’s really no getting around the fact that the closing shot is Kubo standing alone next to the ghosts of his two dead parents. What the fuck?
With this in mind, the tone and dialogue really worked for me this time. Monkey is dead serious, because she knows she’s dying and she has one last chance, with the time limit measured in days, to get her only son to safety. With that context, the stern demeanor, slight remove and awkward clip of their interactions fully click into place, and now I mostly just find myself impressed by how serious and genuine they managed to keep this story and still get it distributed.
*Well, and I also remember thinking it was criminal how little shamisen was actually used in the score, given that the main character is literally a goddamn shamisen bard - and despite acknowledging that it managed to be enough to be the reason I want to learn shamisen, I still fully stand by that criticism today. On rewatch, I will at least grant it that the Regina Spektor cover over the credits fucking slaps.)
Missing Link
Tumblr media
After loving Boxtrolls and Kubo so much, I was really excited to get to this one and see what the most cutting-edge release of Laika’s had in store. Ultimately… disappointing?
After the absolutely killer opening sequence, I was all-in on the character of Sir Lionel Frost - from the intense Loch Ness Monster setpiece, the vibe I caught was a smarmy, uncaring exterior covering a heart of gold, a man who would fight through hell for his comrades despite his faults. Unfortunately, he then unrelentingly spends the entire rest of the movie being an intolerable piece of shit to every single person he’s around. It feels like a lot was cut from this movie, or it had some issues in the editing stage, because the character arcs felt more like character right angles, and none of the reconciliations or growth moments felt especially earned or natural to me.
Also, I found it odd to release a movie in 2019 about a racist, English colonialist explorer trope character and not really interrogate it much. It felt like they flirted with it a bit, with some of the monologues we get from the Society Chairman indicating he’s even worse than our lead, but the movie making Frost look good by comparison still doesn’t leave him looking especially good. I seriously felt like I was teleported into a movie from the 80s while watching the dinner scene with the yak cookies…yikes.
The action sequence in the tilting boat was great, though.
Unrelated to any specific movie, this was also the first time I really dug into Laika’s past as a studio and how exactly Travis Knight came to be CEO. I was previously aware that Travis Knight kinda forced his way in there via wealth, but figured, hey, he does seem to at least be a decent animator, and I have to applaud one of The Rich using their fortune to keep an incredibly niche artform alive rather than the multitudinous bullshit they usually use it for. After learning Laika was essentially formed from the ashes of the studio of one of claymation’s pioneers in a somewhat forceful takeover, though…
Well, I think the upshot for me is still largely the same, but it definitely does make me feel some sort of way now seeing Travis Knight be the one spotlighted in all the post-credits timelapses and featurettes, that’s for sure.

I'm still not allowing myself to be excited for the One Piece live action but after having seen the trailer a few more times I'll say that as long as the pacing is good (bad pacing trips me up so hard) and the show captures the essence and spirit of the story, I won't hate it.
I just hope the rest of the writing is better than that "Not a crew" scene, I'm still not very happy with that. Sure, a lot of the comedy from the manga and the anime doesn't translate very well into live action but they can still bring out the silly parts without relying on the same kind of 0815 quips that are used by every action adventure movie since the beginning of the MCU.
Something I didn't learn until today is that Oda himself was heavily involved in the adaptation, including greenlighting the cast, which I guess gives me a little more confidence that the show won't be a trashfire.
I really like the cast (and now that I know Oda gave his okay for Nami's and Sanji's actors I'm putting my earlier reservations to the side), I like their energy, I highly appreciate their love for the One Piece universe, so I have a feeling they may be my favorite part of the adaptation.
Something that's also been pointed out is that the characters are wearing a lot of outfits from color spreads from the manga, which is really cool, I like that a lot, it gives them realistic costume changes while still staying true to their designs.
As for some of the criticism I've seen float around the tag:
"WHY ISN'T LUFFY WEARING FLIP FLOPS????" I was a little put off by that at first, too, but I honestly doubt that we'll pay a whole lot of attention to his feet when we watch the actual show (and who knows, maybe they'll show up at some point)
"WHERE IS SANJI'S CURLY BROW??????" This is probably completely a Me thing but when I watched the trailer for the first time I didn't even notice that because I was honestly much more worried about his hair before the trailer was released; I totally get that him not having the curly brow is a little disappointing and leaves out some of the greatest bickering between him and Zoro, but it's still possible that they'll bring it into the show some other way, even if he doesn't have it all the time; same goes for the smoking (which, given that it's an American production that is aimed at kids, isn't really surprising, since smoking/tobacco is its own content warning on American TV), we might see him light a cigarette here and there but we were never gonna see him chainsmoke the way he does in the manga/anime
"WHAT ABOUT USOPP'S NOSE????" Okay, let's be real here, had they given Usopp his Pinocchio nose through either CGI or VFX make-up, everyone probably would have complained how stupid and cringe it looks translated into live action; Jacob has a very expressive face that more than makes up for the lack of the Pinocchio nose in my opinion, but maybe that's just me (Jacob was also the first cast member I was fully on board with from the start, so maybe I'm biased, but that's how I feel)
"BUGGY LOOKS TOO SCARY" Guys, we only got one shot of him and we don't know the context for it; maybe this is his introductory shot, maybe this is a special dramatic shot, maybe this is how other people describe him, we just don't know; just wait until the show is out
"THE FOOTAGE IS TOO YELLOW" While it is likely that this is the final color grading, it's also possible that the final color grading wasn't done by the time they put the trailer together (like, some of the shots look like the yellow isn't as strong), they still have more than two months until release, they could still be doing final tweaks until then; and maybe they wanted to emphasize Luffy's sunny personality, who knows, the cinematography probably looks different in emotional scenes
Also, and this is only of interest to my fellow Germans, the German anime voice cast is dubbing the show, so I might actually watch it both in the original version and with the German voices because the nostalgia is reaaaaaaaallll
Be still, my heart, so you won't be disappointed, but be hopeful, be so so hopeful 🥲

I saw that you are doing match ups (sorry to bother if I'm wrong!!😵💕)(im so sorry if my english is bad!!!)
i'm kind of pale i have blue eyes(looks like green most of the time) my hair is a little short but not too short is it light red? I've had many different colors like blue or pink. I'm 1.62 tall Brazilian, about style I vary a lot, I love wearing pink but I love wearing black too, I like skirts, short shirts and lots of accessories, I love getting ready and certainly one of my favorite things is shopping for clothes
I've always been very shy because of my anxiety but with people close to me or on a cool subject I don't shut up. I LOVE listening to music and nobody can stop me i can talk all day about musical artists i listen to everything, i love art all kinds of art but mainly drawing and fashion i don't know what career to pursue(and that kills me 💀) but i love animals SO MUCH i'm the type of person that would rather save a dog's life than mine 🤷‍♀️.
sorry if this is too big or boring 🏃‍♀️
Hello! I am doing matchups, and your English is good don’t worry! This was fun to do so I hope you like who I picked! Ps this was written on my phone so I apologize if it’s laid out weird
I paired you up with…
Tumblr media
Tiffany Valentine!
Tiffany has a wonderful sense of style and would love for you to design her outfits and clothes! She looks good in practically anything, but with your designs? Oh buddy she’s practically a beam of light she is so stunning.
Tiff would let you borrow/wear or even keep any clothes of hers that you want! What she owns you own, and that is especially with clothing.
I think Tiff would make her own clothes as well or at the very least she customizes a lot of clothing, so she would love for your help or tips! You two would have dates where you sit in her trailer, listening to all kinds of music while you two make clothing together. Bring whatever music you’d like to her! She likes all kinds as well!
Tiff is better at making accessories than she is clothing, so you bet you have an entire jewelry box now full of things she made for you.
She would love to spoil you during shopping trips. You were looking at that purse for a second? It’s sitting on your bed the next day. She would love to pay for everything, she doesn’t mind! (But if you feel guilty about this you can just treat her to some lunch. You may have to yank the bill out of her hands-)
Tiffany is good with helping you with your anxiety. When you told her of your anxiety she was very understanding and asked you what she could do to help. Are you okay with touching, or not? Do you take any medication? She’ll help remind you to take it. Do you need or want stress toys? Any items that help, like weighted blankets? She wants you to be as comfortable and feel as safe and loved as possible!
Tiff loves to hear about cool subjects you like, wether that be fashion, art, or anything else, she will listen with a smile and even contribute her own thoughts and questions.
Oh you bet she is hanging up any art you make on the walls and fridge like a proud partner. It’s brings a smile to her face every time she looks at it.
She would send you pictures of art/clothing supplies and see if you want or need it. ‘Saw these cool pencils. Want them?’ ‘Check out this fabric!’ ‘Think you could make anything with this?’
Please please put on a little fashion show for her, she will absolutely melt
She loves animals too! I think she’s more of a bug person myself so… hope your cool with bugs! You guys probably adopt so many dogs together omg

Yeah I got the obvious ones
Tbh I got…nephews (cousins sons that shit how) and when I was building up my anime collection I went
“Oh shit, I need some kid friendly stuff!”
So I got digimon, the pokemon movies, and studio ghibli movies. Still building it up
Also from ac red, idk wth is their pr department doing. During black history month, I suggested to a friend that Ubisoft could have down a post at the end of month like
“Thanks for the Amazing Black History month…but there are more black stories to tell”
Cut to a quick gif of Yasuke putting on his ONI mask (very likely to be in game) and flicking his hidden blade and then say “Full Trailer Reveal In May”
Twitter a shitshow about Yasuke being a lead mainly because of Afrocentrism
But I would tell the executives, to just fucking rip off the bandaid and let people get used to fact Yasuke is the second playable character
I would have done a reveal trailer like this Viking game https://youtu.be/L0Fr3cS3MtY?si=xrkk3hycjg3ksxUs
Basically it start out with the two protagonists childhoods. Naoi being trained by her father while kid Yasuke is on slave ship.
Than cut to Yasuke washing up on Japanese shore (they change his past for the narrative) where you see his samurai training and Naoi more depth ninja
While show they will fight each other
Then show the tragedy of the hojo incident and Naoi father who will be killed by the Templars
And cut to Yasuke nearly being killed by the Templars only for Hattori Hanzo (who part of the brotherhood) to save him and offer him a chance to join the order
Then the final part of the trailer is Naoi in her marking outfit on a mission being cornered, but cute to Yasuke now in his assassin outfit helping her
Then Yasuke and Naoi standing side by side to symbolize their understanding that they must work together to unify Japan
Sorry for the fanfic, but the issues with non white characters especially black ones is the EXECUTION
If red acknowledged that Yasuke is a outside and DO point out the no gain rule that the Tokugawa established it might be good
Still don't think I've ever even seen a whole episode of Pokemon, Ghibli movies I know and love tho so that's stuff I can approve of at least. Pokemon is fine too, they've been bringing smiles for a insanely long time.
Also from ac red, idk wth is their pr department doing. During black history month, I suggested to a friend that Ubisoft could have down a post at the end of month like
ect.
That actually could have been cool, don't need much footage to make it work either even just a few drawings could do it.
Twitter a shitshow about Yasuke being a lead mainly because of Afrocentrism But I would tell the executives, to just fucking rip off the bandaid and let people get used to fact Yasuke is the second playable character
Personally I'd tell them these are people that will never be happy so listening to them is pointless, not like they're gonna buy the game anyhow either.
They can make their own if they're not happy.
Which is a attitude I wish more creators would adopt, don't like it don't buy it but we're not going to custom tailor our products to cater to your narcissism.
Sorry for the fanfic, but the issues with non white characters especially black ones is the EXECUTION
FanFic is always good, no need to apologize.
I hope the game meets to your expectations when it comes out finally.

Was in a bit of a depressive mood as of late, not being able to get writing done and feeling paralyzed at my internship, so I haven’t been very active. I’m working on that a bit, but right now, I feel like talking about RWBY: Ice Queendom.
I had seen the first few episodes, but I only got around to finishing it now. One of my friends kicked my butt into doing so, great guy. Here we go. Spoilers ahead.
Tumblr media
I loved the first episode of Ice Queendom. I loved how it was a mix of all the Color trailers, but tied together in an neat, organic way. Obviously there’s an  extra focus on Weiss- it’s her show after all. I love how they establish her familial issues off the bat and had cameos from her whole family, even Willow, to give some extra context into Weiss’ decisions. I also love the way the other trailers were incorporated. Blake’s Black trailer was included with some subtle tweaks to make it more interesting. While the Yellow trailer was cut, and the Red trailer was downplayed in comparison, the series more than makes up for that by giving Ruby and Yang expanded scenes establishing their characters, starting the episode with a visit to Summer’s grave, covering the trip to Vale, their interactions with each other and Tai which were so wholesome. The first fight with Roman managed to be breathtaking thanks to the score and the animation. I love the narration that book ends the episode- and the not so subtle allusion to Pyrrha’s eventual fate in the last part.
It was my favorite episode of Ice Queendom, putting a genuinely interesting spin on old events in a way that felt refreshing. In all honesty, I think it makes a better introduction to the world than the actual first episode of RWBY did at least in my opinion. I was delighted.
The rest of the series... well, it couldn’t help but feel disappointing by comparison. NOT BAD. Just disappointing.
The next two episodes give a brief recap of the events of Volume 1. It was rushed, but that was to be expected given how much was crammed in. I like the Nightmare Grimm attack JNPR had to fight off, but I thought what it was doing with Weiss was more interesting. She’s presented as more of a flawed character than even in the original, which is especially noticeable in the scene where Port gives her that speech from the Badge and the Burden. While in the original Weiss learned to be more humbler and accept Ruby’s help, this series plays up more of her arrogance, taking the lesson as her needing to mold Ruby into more of the kind of leader she feels she has to be. In general, she’s more prideful and arrogant, more open with her faunus racism, and I enjoyed seeing this new version. I was wondering where the series was going with this new foundation set forth.
Episode 4 came around and revealed the real premise of the series: Weiss is attacked by the Nightmare Grimm, and her team (plus Jaune) have to save her before the Nightmare breaks apart Weiss’ mind forever.
The dream world presented is a marvellous one. The snowy mountains, the Grimm like White Fang attacking the trains, the robot guards surrounding faceless crowds, the Klein doors, the walls protecting the city that Weiss looks over, the shadowy wails of her mother from the walls, Bat Whitley, so much creative imagery is thrown into the mix. If nothing else, the action sequences inside of the dream world was pretty awesome, as are the expanding rules and tricks our heroes come up with on their quest to help Weiss. I like that the series delves more into Weiss’ psychology, how much she works to keep her most precious feelings trapped inside of the cold exterior in insanely literal terms. In particular, I found the ways Weiss views Ruby and Pyrrha in the dream world to be revealing. Dream!Pyrrha is wearing more or less the same outfit Weiss had in Volume 4, giving a haunting rendition of Mirror, Mirror that serves to emphasize how Weiss sees a kindred spirit with her (which turned out to be more correct than she realized). With Ruby, though there are some conflicting feelings, as it turned out Weiss actually does come to see her as someone to care about... someone to keep locked away in her heart forever... These insights were welcome. Also Dream!JNR being animals stuck in a cage was pretty funny.
I can’t say there’s much I find awful with this series. Episode 10′s animation was pretty dire. I feel like the Dream Pyrrha could have been used more, she seemed like she was going to play a role because she didn’t glitch out the way the other dream characters eventually did, but nothing really came of that. I felt very disheartened the Nightmare form Blake eventually tuns into within Weiss’ dream. It makes sense in the context of the series, but taking on the form she did felt very wrong in a way that left me in a bad mood. Real!Jaune feels like a pointless add on. I guess I side eyed a little at how Roman was given screentime, but Cinder got a very minor cameo, not even getting to do the cool clash with Glynda like in the original’s first episode.
It’s definitely not bad, but it’s not really one of my favorite RWBY things perse. Even though they teased the promise of a new story, functionally it serves as a filler arc between Volume 1 and 2, primarily used to explain why Weiss chills out a lot between those Volumes. It’s disappointing to me, because I would have liked to have seen either A) How this more flawed Weiss would have developed over the course of the story, whether she’d grow as a person or not, or B) A series that fully took place in the alternate universe presented in the Dream World. As it is, I like Ice Queendom just fine, heck I probbaly enjoy it more than the first two Volumes if I’m being honest, but I don’t really feel like looking back on it again.
The first episode is still my favorite though, woof.

How it’d be to watch animes with them
A/N: While i’m working on my Mikasa x reader royal au, this little idea came to my mind. I tried to put the links when i mentioned a specific scene and speak a little about the anime in case you don’t know it.  So here it’s:
Warnings: Me exposing my otaku self, mentions of 18+ animes (Not hentais)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eren -  Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (13+)
A / N: The main characters like each other, but none wants to confess because being the person who takes the first step would also represent being the defeated person. The anime develops in a series of plans that both elaborate to make the other confess their love.
Warnings: None
It was his idea to watch an anime together since the two of you liked it a lot. You saw no harm and agreed to go to sleep with your boyfriend on Friday night. So, you would have the dawn and the weekend to see everything.
“We could watch One piece! Everybody likes"
“In three days ?! We will not finish even if we do not take breaks ”
"Naruto then?"
“Haven't you seen it all five times or more?
"But it is a classic!"
"It is also too long!"
He would sulk when he saw you reject each of his suggestions for being too big animes. The truth was, he was trying to convince you to stay longer. After much searching in the catalog, you choose to watch a short comedy of 12 episodes.
Biggest mistake ever
Eren is already annoying by nature, and after watching Kaguya-sama's two seasons he would spend the day and night trying to get you to confess to him EVEN IF YOU'VE BEEN IN LOVE FOR TWO YEARS AND HE HAS BEEN THE FIRST TO DECLARE. HIT HIM, PLEASE.
"Do you think that using such a low trick will make me give in?"
“Eren, I just got out of the shower. What trick? Wear an outfit? ”
“Showing off your skin won't make you win”
If you wanted to play with him, great. You are going to spend the day in this little game until he gets tired and just hugs you or something because he can't spend a lot of time without touching you. But if you didn't want to, just you could use that touchy side of him against him too.
"Maybe I shouldn't show you anything else then"
"Yes, of course, do- Wait what?"
"You heard"
“NO, BABE! YOU WON! I CONFESS! I LOVE YOU"
Watching anime with him would be quite an experience. For being very verbal, Eren would be the type of person who doesn't shut up watching anything. Especially, something that makes him laugh. You would see him laughing out loud and throwing himself back on the couch or on you, whether you were with him or not. You may even complain, but it would be fun to see him react to everything as immediately and naturally as an unfiltered child.
He will sing ALL the openings for the rest of the days around the house until you are humming some without realizing it.
For some reason, can I imagine him doing Chika dance ?? Yes, please film this big bear dancing like a little girl.
Tumblr media
Levi - Death parade
A / N: Do you want to cry and hurt yourself? This is the right place. Death Parade is a story about what happens after death. The characters are sent to mysterious bars where they will be judged to decide the fate of the souls themselves. (18+)
Warnings: Suicide, depressive themes, mentions of rape and domestic violence
I don't see Levi watching many animes. In fact, I don't see him watching much anything at all. He would be the type of person who can't spend a lot of time in front of the television without feeling like he's wasting time. Which would result in a very selective and demanding taste.
He would always read the reviews about the film, and after watching it, he would make his own. Ever. No exceptions. Unlike Impossible-to-be-quiet-Eren, Levi would be silent to be able to capture and understand all the details. This is interesting because getting his attention is a difficult task. But once it's done, he is 100% focused on the story and immersed in the characters.
So, after reading about it, he would agree to watch Death Parade with you.
He would have low expectations at first, and if the anime failed to hold his very difficult attention in three episodes, he wouldn't even try with the rest.
So when in the first episode, all suspense and doubts left to the viewer entered Ackerman's head, he would finish the other 11 without realizing it.
As a rational person, he would love things that make him think and reflect on the proposed theme. In the case: Life and death.
For some reason, I imagine him as someone who would like to study and read philosophy as a hobby and that he would love Nietzsche? So, you could expect deep conversations after each episode.
But without any arrogance, humanity's strongest soldier might not be the most talkative man in humanity, but surely when he opened his mouth to it, it wouldn’t be to show himself off with something that he knows and you don’t. On the contrary, he would be more than happy to explain if you asked and added your opinion.
He wouldn't cry, but he would be touched by the way the emotions were shown and created in the characters.
He would probably see the scene where Decim cries more than once for being impressed with how the pain of a character who is supposedly not flesh and blood is expressed so well.
And after the anime is over, you would always see him listening to the music of the ice skating scene around the house while doing something.
When you were finished watching everything, you would talk again about the anime. You lying on his chest and he touching his hair, smelling him.
"Do you believe in reincarnation, Levi?"
“If so, I wouldn't go back to this shit a second time. No matter what they offered me ”
"Levi!"
"Unless it was to have you again"
“What a cliché” He would roll his eyes after hearing your response “But I like clichés”
Again, he wouldn't cry, but he would be thinking about how ephemeral things can be, including being alive. Then you can expect a more touchy Levi for a few days.
Tumblr media
Jean - Banana Fish
N / A: Another one to cry and get hurt. Banana Fish is way more than just a story about one character just is hard to define. So in case, you didn’t watch it, here’s the trailer. (18+)
warnings: pedophilia, rape, violence, drugs, your heart being destroyed
You know that guy who says that no yaoi is good, it's just a way to feed a bunch of fujoshi and stuff like that? Jean. It's him. I just know it. So when you suggested Banana Fish and said it was a BL / yaoi, he would probably laugh and ignore the idea.
But after insisting a little and showing him the many compliments that both the anime and the manga received, he would accept.
At first, he wouldn't pay much attention. He really thought it would be just another bad anime. But by the end of the first episode, he would be too involved in the story to stop.
I think he would love crime novels for the same reason that Levi: To think. Try to find out how things are going to end and pick up any clues that the author has left about the ending. So the plot would hold him so much because he would make a ton of theories about the end.
He will ship Ash and Eiji with all his soul. I mean, how can he not ship? To see an anime in which the physical touch between the couple doesn't really happen and still builds a well-developed and healthy relationship would be a new experience for him.
Jean is somewhat similar to Eren in this respect. So you can expect to see him huffing in anger, cursing one of the characters, throwing a pillow away, or using it to hide a tear or two that he would let go of you. The kind of person who gets emotionally involved with the things he watches.
He would cry an entire river after watching the last episode and deny it later.
“I was not crying. The cushion fabric made my eyes itch a lot ”
Show him again and he will cry the same amount and intensity
Tumblr media
Armin - Haikyuu
A / N: Considering all the texts on Tumblr for haikyuu characters, I’m pretty sure you know what anime it’s lol (10+)
Armin is an otaku with a license card and no one can change my mind. He would probably start watching it as a child. So, his first animes would be everyone's classics: Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, etc.
So it would be normal that as the vast majority, he would continue to have a preference for shounen when he grew up. So it would be your idea to see Haikyuu.
He would have low expectations because he thought it would be just another anime with cute characters for everyone to be thirsty as an inverted harem. And also because the synopsis does not create a strong impression, especially for those who consume shounen daily.
"So we are just gonna see a little boy trying to catch a ball?"
“It's gonna be good! Everyone is talking about it now ”
"Does he have some superpower?"
"No"
"Something scary?"
"Armin, just give a chance!"
He would like it. Did I say he would like it? Because he would love it. The atmosphere created and well developed with such a simple plot would hold his attention well. (Is it possible to dislike Hinata in the first episode?)
It would be a great anime for him to watch because 1. It is different from what he usually sees. Unlike shounen, Haikyuu deals only with real and tangible scenarios. Of course, still with that touch of anime, but it is very easy to recognize yourself in the characters and learn from them and therefore reflect on yourself as well.
It would be great to make him think about his own insecurities and how most of them were inside his head.
He would be so immersed in the anime universe that he would have to pause the game scenes because he would be too nervous waiting for the ball to fall.
You will probably see him taking a deep breath in each drawing scene of the characters and see him truly cheering for the team as if it were a real national game.
More than that, you will see his eyes full of tears when Yamaguchi hit the serve in the match against Aoba johsai.
In fact, Yamaguchi would be his favorite character. No discussions.
"I said it would be good"
"Shut up"
"Make me"
Tumblr media
Mikasa - Heaven’s official blessing
A / N: I'm going to leave the trailer here because I don't know how to define it very well. It's a novel, but the story doesn't focus ONLY on that. (14+)
Okay, you didn't suggest. She did not suggest. So how do you end up watching together? You catch her watching when you come home by surprise lol
Until then, you would know that she watched some anime, but nothing romantic. Never. In fact, that was her little secret.
Although common sense is that Mikasa would be cold even in a modern au (and I agree in parts). I think she would be the type of person who loves to see the sweetest and softest things to melt alone on the couch without anyone seeing. A moment for herself and a part of her that she would not show to anyone.
You would already know about her romantic side, but seeing her under the covers sighing while watching the Netflix special episode is a totally different story.
Please don’t mock her!!. She would be red enough by the time she was discovered.
When she was less shy, she would ask if you want to watch with her. She would say she saw no problem watching it with you again since doing it with you would be a different experience.
If you accept, you would spend the rest of the night in the room sharing a blanket and absorbing the soft atmosphere, the soundtrack, and the Chinese culture so present in history.
She would not speak a lot because she was paying attention, but she would hug you all the time. In the romantic scenes, she would tighten her arms around you a little and sometimes left a kiss on your shoulder.
I think she could relate to Hua Cheng's way of loving. He is always there to protect, care for and see his lover even if sometimes Xie Lian doesn't even know.
And that is what she wants to show you, that more than a girlfriend, she is also someone you can count on.
Days later, you will see her reading the rest of the work around the house because she couldn't stand to wait for a second season.
And later, SURELY melting and vibrating while watching Mo Dao Zu Shi.

some Foxes Animal Crossing: New Horizons headcanons because i miss that game so much. i never played much through the holiday events, so i didn’t mention any of them here.
----
Dan -
Dan was super excited about the release of New Horizons. she watched all of the trailers that were put out upon the release, and spent hours searching the list of villagers so she could have a villager that reminded her of each of the Foxes.
she really enjoyed collecting all of the bugs, fishes, and fossils. it was her main goal to complete the museum and have her entire encyclopedia filled out. she ended up a millionaire with how much money she made from the hundreds of duplicates she got, so she would use the money to buy items to make her island super pretty.
Kevin -
Kevin remembered hearing about Animal Crossing briefly before exy consumed his life. the memories of him around seven years old asking his mom if he could play the game even though he had no interest in playing any other game.
when New Horizons came out, Kevin didn’t have a switch of his own, so he would borrow Aaron’s switch while he studied. he tried to get into Animal Crossing, but he found it boring. he never enjoyed video games too much and thought of them as a waste of time, but he knew all of the Foxes were excited about the release, so he figured he try it for them.
Andrew -
Andrew played Animal Crossing when he was bored or stressed because of how calming it was. he enjoyed that you could sort of do whatever you want because the quests were relatively easy to do, so he could do them along with whatever else he wanted.
he decided that it would be funny to design his island like a giant maze. he set up terraforming so you wouldn't be able to see over the walls. he memorized the layout that he made, easily being able to traverse his island. the Foxes would always get confused and have to open the map to go anywhere on his island.
Matt -
Matt had no clue what he was doing. he got the game because Dan was really excited about it, but he didn’t really know the premise. he enjoyed the music and the art style of the game the most, second to the hundreds of different villagers he could meet through the Nook Miles islands.
once he understood the game, he enjoyed the Able Sister’s shop the most. he liked making different outfits with the new clothes that came in each day. his favorites were the fairy dresses, and he bought some for all of the Foxes so they could run around Dan’s magical island together in them.
Aaron -
Aaron got New Horizons for himself and Katelyn for her birthday shortly after the release. she had been talking about wanting it, but not having sixty extra dollars to spend on it. she hugged Aaron fiercely when he showed her that he downloaded it on her switch.
Aaron didn’t have much free time to play between exy, classes, and homework, so he was very behind compared to the other Foxes. by the time classes were over and he had free time, the Foxes would donate materials to him so he could complete the main part of the game. he didn’t play much after that, only usually getting on to visit Katelyn’s island and have Animal Crossing dates while she was at home for the summer.
Allison -
Allison didn't really enjoy the grinding part of the game, so after the main part of the game, she abandoned doing the tasks and focused on making her island prettier. the Foxes always enjoyed visiting her island and seeing what else she had added.
she wanted to have all of her dream villagers on her island, but she didn't want to grind for Nook Miles tickets, so she'd bribe Renee and Neil for some of theirs so she could get all of the villagers she wanted. Some of these villagers include: Diana, Aurora, Marcy, and Zucker.
Nicky -
Nicky loves Animal Crossing dearly. he played Wild World as a kid, so when New Horizons came out at the start of quarantine, he decided to relive his childhood. he loved being able to customize his character and unlock the different things from the Nook Miles shop.
he has a bit of a problem with restarting his island. it seems like every other month Nicky is asking one of the Foxes if he can put his stuff on their islands so he can restart. they started getting annoyed after the fourth or fifth time, so he started paying them in Nook Miles tickets and bells.
Renee -
Renee had heard about Animal Crossing, but never had the chance to play it growing up. Pocket Camp was easy to play when she had a few free minutes and didn’t have her switch. she enjoyed befriending the villagers, and was excited to have more of it in New Horizons.
she was the most organized of all of the Foxes. she was the first to develop paths and sections of her island dedicated to different things. she had a bunch of spots around her island where the Foxes could hang out with her, including a movie area with a popcorn machine and sofas. they would spend hours together exploring her island.
Neil -
Neil didn't know about Animal Crossing growing up. he had only learned about the game from the Foxes. he didn't understand the hype around it from what the Foxes showed him, and it took weeks of playing for him to realize how much he liked the game.
when he started playing the game daily he started to enjoy the Nook Miles+ tasks. he liked how they were endless and always had a reward. he managed to lose hours of his days by grinding the tasks, leaving him was tens of thousands of Nook Miles.

Requesting some nasty with All American Massacre era Choptop, or... Notchop at that point? Maybe him going out to find some dinner at a bar before he actually sees reader and is like "Nah I can think of some better things to do with this one" flirting, which then ends with them messing around in that combination fairylight torture chamber we have seen in the trailers? Obviously there is not really characterization of him at that point so I encourage you to go as headcanon as you would like. Just.... God, Mosley looking like a crusty ass punk in the few pictures we got really does it for me and I need to get rained by THAT version of the character specifically.
It's Been Years, Love. (AAM!Chop Top fic)
Pairing: All American Massacre!Chop Top Sawyer x AFAB!reader Word Count: 0.9k Warnings: Knives, weaponry. blood hint, unprotected sex, just some weird smut A/N: I set this up in case of a sequel, so if anybody enjoys this first one-- feel free to request a description of what went down that night!
Tumblr media
Alone in a bustling bar… this wasn't how you planned your Friday night to go. You let out an exasperated sigh, eyes glancing down in sorrow. Around you are laughing, conversing bar goers whomst seem to be having the time of their life-- but not you. That was until a greasy-appearing man slid into the unoccupied seat next to you, staring at you expectantly. He adorned a pair of purple sunglasses and an outfit that screamed hippie. His silver headplate glimmers under the bar’s lighting.
"I wouldn't expect somebody like you to be all alone in a place like this." The man comments, chuckling nervously. You cock an eyebrow.
"Somebody like… what?" You ask, confused if he meant an insult or a compliment. It could've meant anything.
"Somebody so… deliciously attractive." He answers with a lick of his lips. He slides his arm around your shoulder and orders you a drink, demanding the bartender put it on his tab. As you wait you take in his looks. He screams bastard with his slouched posture but warrior with his exposed head plate.
Drink after drink, the two of you start to become closer. You learn his name is Bobby Sawyer, but you can call him Chop Top. You learn his experiences in Vietnam, you learn about his years in prison. With every word, his hand slowly slides across your body and gropes your breast. You stumble on your words, trying your best to not let out a moan.
"Do ya wanna go back to my place?" Chop whispers into your ear, licking up your neck and onto your lobe. He grunts into your ear, giving it a gentle nibble. Your answer is an immediate yes, allowing Chop to lead you out of the bar.
You arrive in a musty truck, various bones hanging off the front mirror. What kind of animal could these possibly come from?
"Oh! M'brother Bubba made these for me." Chop explains as he sees your confused glance, "My brothers are… butchers."
The two of you arrive at Chop's place, surprising you at its messy state. The air chokes your lungs, a thick level of dust covering everything. The house looked like somebody hadn't been there for ten years, Chop was being genuine about his stay in jail. You'd think he'd clean up once arriving home. On the counters are various weapons and tools, some clearly used with some type of dried red substance on them. Your gut screams to question it, but the man seducing you seemed too good to pass up. Chop guides you to a suspended blanket fort, fairy lights strung across to provide romantic mood lighting. Inside are various pillows to provide comfort. You lay down, Chop sitting on top of you. Then it begins.
Chop leans in for a kiss, his hands holding his body above your shoulders. Your lips meet, beginning a passionate dance. You fight for dominance, kissing harder and harder. His wet tongue slips into your mouth, letting him win this battle. You gasp, panting for air as his fiery energy takes your breath away. Chop pulls away, taking his personal hunting knife and pointing it at the collar of your shirt. He cocks an eyebrow in question of consent, your longing eyes approving. He begins cutting off your top, then your bra. Your bare chest stings in the anticipating air.
"I could do anything to you…" Chop groans, gently tracing the knife down your exposed skin. "You're just my prey."
"If you could do ANYTHING…" You begin, grasping the excited bulge in his pants, "then show me what this can do."
Chop eagerly begins undressing, pulling off his tie-dye shirt and custom stitched jeans, along with some colorful boxers. Out flings his erect member, long and slender. He's dripping with precum in pure excitement. Chop tugs off your pants and panties, throwing them off to the side. His long fingers slide across your entrance, feeling your yearning wetness. Then he enters- out of your lips escapes a moan. Chop takes his time, slowly pulling in and out of your expectant sex. A plea emerges from your lips, a moan of "please, Bobby". Then he ravages you. His cock thrusts aggressively, speedily, filling you with wild pleasure. His lengthy cock pushes against your g-spot. Your back curves, your feet push into the floor, your head digs back into the pile of pillows. The aura of the room is lust as all the two of you can hear is your bodies coming together and sapped moans.
"I'm gonna-- I'm gonna!" Chop grunts, speeding up his pounding. Your sex fills with his warmth. He pulls out, droplets of his slime spilling from your pussy.
He flops down next to you, breath heavy from pouring his energy into you. Your sex is empty now, lonely. You sit atop of Chop, grasping his knife and pointing it at his chest.
"I never finished…" You pout, twirling the hunting knife in your hands, "Why should you be the only one having fun?"
Under you, his member raises against your sex. His erection throbs impatiently in a matter of seconds. His longing eyes gaze upon you, leaving him speechless.
"Maybe use that knife a little bit more and you'll get it." Chop growls, a shit eating grin spreading across his flushed face.
The night is full of passionate embracing, countless amounts embracing, now including various items and weaponry. The two of you are like rabbits, switching who's on top and who uses what. It seems the knife really excited him.

My Dress-Up Darling (Review)

Title: My Dress-Up Darling | OFFICIAL TRAILER
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oveGY6h6T8&ab_channel=CrunchyrollCollection
By: Beata Garrett  | @zhongxia246
My Dress-Up Darling has a lot of things going for it. What has drawn me to the series is its message of respecting people’s hobbies, its depiction of the work and dedication involved in cosplaying, and the sweet burgeoning romance between Wakana and Marin. It’s also undoubtedly fanservice-y, with close-ups that linger on Marin’s exposed body–sometimes it’s minimal, but other times it can take up a full episode like Episode 2.
I advise viewers to weigh these two things against one another if they decide to watch the anime. It’s a delight to watch Wakana and Marin share their interests in hina dolls and cosplay respectively, and see them develop feelings for one another as they become physically and emotionally close. While the fanservice can be off-putting, the physical touching is always consensual.

The two also share a bond that’s built on respect, admiration, and loneliness from having no one else to talk to about their respective passions. Both Wakana and Marin keep their hobbies a secret due to social pressure from their peers and the fear of rejection.
For Wakana, he’s unable to share his love for hina dolls because of an incident in his childhood where a girl called him creepy. Marin, meanwhile, is popular but doesn’t have any friends that take her hobbies seriously. People are surprised that she's interested in anime, manga, and video games, and don’t take her seriously. When she meets Wakana, she’s overjoyed to find someone that’s willing to talk to her about the things she loves.

I really enjoy the passion that radiates from the two leads as they bond over cosplay, and begin working together. Marin’s desire to cosplay is only hindered by her inability to sew but is clearly shown in the way she rants about her favorite games and anime. Her reasoning behind cosplay will probably strike a chord with cosplayers that watch the show when she says lines like this:

Another aspect of the show that may appeal to cosplayers and regular people is the show’s depiction of creating a cosplay outfit. My Dress-Up Darling takes viewers from the beginning stages of a concept to scouting the materials and then actually sewing them:

For their first joint effort, Marin and Wakana go fabric shopping and the two discuss how much detail goes into even choosing the fabric. Cosplay is not just looking at a picture and trying to replicate it shallowly but considers the context for the character’s costuming too.

Even shopping for the materials takes up money and time as one store doesn’t carry everything a cosplayer may need. They may have to find the right fabric at one place then buy wigs at a different store (and maybe cut the wigs to suit the character) and even consider what kind of lingerie to use with the outfit. Cosplayers may consider the eye shapes of their chosen characters too, as we see in Episode 4 (image below). The amount of detail that goes into a cosplay is astounding and My Dress-Up Darling lovingly depicts this well.

The show also doesn’t look away from how exhausting it can be. In Episode 4, Wakana is overwhelmed as the deadline for the outfit approaches amidst issues like his grandfather’s hospitalization, exams, and tours of his family’s shop. He and Marin are still students, and it’s very realistic to see how the desire to accomplish multiple things can lead to burnout and self-doubt.
In the midst of a breakdown, Wakana remembers why he started loving hina dolls and wanted to help Marin by remembering what his grandfather said to him as a kid:

This memory motivates Wakana to continue working and he meets all his deadlines, which includes completing Marin’s outfit. When Marin comes over to check it, the two grow closer as Wakana realizes he should’ve been more open with her about the struggle he was going through as a partner. It’s an important moment for the two as friends and collaborators, and a nice reminder for creatives to not push themselves past their limit and for partner transparency.

After their honest talk, they move onto makeup and Marin actually puts the outfit on, marking it their first official cosplay. It’s gorgeous, and knowing all the hard work the two put in and seeing how excited they are is very endearing.
I’ve also read the manga and look forward to the anime approaching aspects like photographing cosplay and the subversive gender norms that can exist in the community.

They touched upon it a bit more in Episode 5, wherein the duo goes to a cosplay convention.

Episode 5 is also an important step in introducing the two to a whole world of people that enjoy cosplay as much as them. There is a genuine sense of community and respect in the event, and it’s delightful to see people’s admiration of Wakana’s work and Marin’s modeling skills.

After the event, the romance really hits the show like a freight train. It’s a little jarring because Marin is suddenly attracted to Wakana, but she’s so shy and funny about it I can overlook this.

Something that is difficult to overlook, however, is how the fanservice takes a more disgusting turn. In Episode 6, we’re introduced to Sajuna, a famous cosplayer Marin looks up to. Wakana’s grandfather sees her outside the house, assumes she’s a friend of his who came to see him, and lets the girl take a shower because it’s raining. Cue Wakana stumbling across her naked after her shower. She slips on the wet floor and it’s incredibly uncomfortable—not only because she is a minor like Marin but also because she’s known for cosplaying younger girls because of her petite physique, so it feels somehow even grosser that she was used for fanservice.
The scene is made worse when Wakana compares her to a hina doll because she’s “completely smooth.” It really puts me off for the rest of the season because I know Sajuna will continue to be sexualized and put on display, especially when she’s cosplaying middle school characters.
Tumblr media
Source: Episode 6, My Dress-Up Darling
I’ve also noticed that My Dress-Up Darling ironically undercuts its positive message that cosplay is for everyone by focusing on certain body types and beauty standards. In Episode 6, Marin explains why she won’t cosplay a certain character: “I do think ignoring that and cosplaying characters you love anyway is valid, too…but in my case, I love her so much that I don’t want to destroy her image” (Episode 6, My Dress-Up Darling).
Tumblr media
Source: Episode 6, My Dress-Up Darling
The diversity of cosplayers is incredible, and it shouldn’t be limited to body types or those that perfectly fit a character’s image. However, My Dress-Up Darling wants to preach this message, like in Episode 5, without practicing it. None of the girls we’ve seen or will see in the show are unattractive and they all fit the ideal cosplay standard they’re set to.
The show seems to say that cosplay is for everyone but some are just better at it than others because of how they look. It’s unfortunate considering how welcoming the show has been before in inviting anyone to cosplay, and it puts a dent in my enthusiasm for My Dress-Up Darling.
Overall, it’s an anime with a cute opening and ending that has enough romantic subplot and detailed insight into the world of cosplaying to keep a wide variety of viewers interested. But it also comes with the sexualization of minors and the opening hints at a future cosplay that will involve skin-darkening. It’s a shame because I would otherwise love this anime.

Actor AU: Season 2 [Asra Alnazar]
Credit for the basis of the AU goes to both @lightvsdark18 and @lynmay-arcana.

O*O*O
[Season 1: Nadia Satrinava] | Season 2: Asra Alnazar
Asra Alnazar—Behind the Scenes & On Set Happenings/Shenanigans
[Not long before the finale of Nadia’s season, the producers got word that Season 2 and Season 3 were greenlit! There was a lot of celebration to be had, but oh dear—there are more than several difficulties for Lyra and Asra in this season].
While it’s handy for Asra and Lyra to have known each other previously, shooting Season 2 with their roles as romantic characters became unexpectedly difficult.
[More under the cut!]
Here’s how the filming of this season went:
When it was announced that Asra and Lyra were going to be Season 2′s couple, rumors and fan theories were allllll over the place.
Some people that ‘shipped’ the actors before thought it was going to become a Showmance and become IRL ‘Canon’.
This made Asra and Lyra wildly, wildly uncomfortable.
It got so difficult to film together that it had to be discussed between the producers, the director, and the actors on whether or not to recast Asra.
He was having the worst of it, getting harassed by ‘fans’ and strangers alike over his and Lyra’s history in the past.
In lieu of this, Season 2 was delayed by a year because of it, nevermind all the reworking of the budget in order to afford all of the magic/water magic that’s going to appear on screen.
They used practical effects as much as possible.
Asra and Lyra rarely spent any time together outside of the set.
If they did ever spend any time together, it was usually with a group setting with mutual friends/they placed themselves far, far away from each other.
Paparazzi was almost always around them and ravenous for any hints of a relationship blossoming between the two of them.
It got to a point where Asra and Lyra needed to hire lawyers to get people to cease and desist.
It seemed to finally do the job, but their friendship would never be the same.
Initially, 80% of scenes where Asra and MC kiss have the camera pan away.
Kissing scenes were so difficult for them to work with that it got to the point to need body doubles to replace them when filming.
Asra: “Seriously the amount of kisses that had to be scrapped—”
Lyra: “It was bad. It was bad.”
Their favorite scenes to shoot together were when Asra and MC did magic together or when either of them would be ‘floating’.
The wire-work was exhilarating for Asra, but it took time for Lyra to adjust due to motion sickness and a slight fear of heights.
Their reactions to each other’s Masquerade outfits when filming that changing scene was genuine.
Despite the fact they’ve seen each other in their Masquerade outfits before, they really did get a kick out of seeing each other in it again.
The people both Asra and Lyra relied on the most—aside from their therapists and families—would end up being their fellow cast members.
Lucio often would set up playdates with Mercedes and Melchior with Lyra’s French Bulldog, Buddy.
The stray popped randomly onto set from the street back when Season 1 was wrapping up in filming.
The little guy got cornered and hid under Lyra’s trailer, whimpering and whining. It took the workers from the animal shelter hours to get him out of there to be looked over.
Lyra adopted him before he was set to be put down, and basically made sure everything in her home/trailer on set would be doggy safe.
Muriel took them out on day trips hiking on some land that he owned in a remote area.
Lyra has pictures in pages and pages of photo albums back at home.
Asra picked a lot of mushrooms and has a few cuts of his own growing back at his own place.
Nadia treats them both with spa days.
Lyra, unfortunately, is allergic to most makeup/beauty products, so she tends to stick with deep tissue massages/hot stone treatments.
That doesn’t mean she’ll say no to Asra painting her face/using makeup—that she’s not allergic to—on her face.
Portia treats them to a mix of movie/video game/etc. sort of nights, visits to cat cafés, museums, and so on.
There was a paintball thing once but after Ly’s glasses got shattered she swore off doing it again.
Water balloons filled with body-safe paint is definitely a go-ahead, though.
Julian has escape rooms, visits to hole-in-the-wall eateries, bars, secret gardens they break into on occasion visit. There’s a surprising amount of noir/Shakespearean/musical film nights at his place/designated meeting area.
A few times when filming the scene of Julian accusing Asra of being his accomplice in murdering Lucio, they used quotes from a number of different source material.
It always got Lyra laughing.
Filming Asra’s reunion with Aisha and Salim makes him tear up when recounting it.
Asra: “He’s been without them for over seventeen years. Seventeen. Years. Can you imagine what that does to a kid?! God . . .”
And that’s not even mentioning how MC’s supposed family was cut from the season, again, despite Lyra and said actors had a few flashback/flashing memory scenes filmed.
To say Lyra is getting irritated with it is putting it mildly.
At least those actors got paid for their time, though.
Asra, Lyra, Vulgora, and Nadia often lost it when Volta gagged or snuffled after she sniffs MC for the plague.
Volta felt awful when Asra and Lyra got into wheezing fits, but they reassured her that it was okay.
The scene where Asra and MC are compelled to sit in the ritual room was one of the most nerve-wracking for Lyra to sit through.
She ad-libbed the toast that MC gives to everyone in the room.
For reference, the paid scene version in that book.
Lyra: There were so many famous actors in that room. Nasrin, The Devil, Nadia, oh God there are too many . . .”
Once filming was all done, Asra and Lyra couldn’t stand being in the same room for a while.
It didn’t last too long. They’re still dear friends and all, but given what happened with the paparazzi they still get twitchy when they spend more than an hour or two together in public.
A lot of correspondence is done through snail mail, postcards, and video calls with the occasional text.
One of the most surprising things to come out of filming this series/season is that Lucio and Asra’s actors actually became friends.
Sure their respective characters hate each other to bits, but it’s a lot more fun when they’re memeing each other on set, online, and whatnot.
A few scenes that hit the cutting room floor are as follows:
Extended cuts of Asra and MC’s travels after the Masquerade.
[Concept of The Heist that ultimately got scrapped in the end].
MC meeting potential familiars.
They don’t pan out, but the concepts were there.
A/N: Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed reading this as I had with writing it!

Rise of the Titans trailer analysis
-That looks like a South American country.
-The animation...
-So the Titans appear in different parts of the world. This is the Earth Titan (wait, are they elemental creatures?) and emerges in Brazil or so.
-Kelsey Grammer (oh, my, what a range).
-Ice Titan! Or Water Titan? What’s that over its head? A spell? Well, they’ve been summoned, right?
-And yes, this one emerges in the North Pole or near.
-Fire Titan! Maybe from Asia?
-The Earth Titan is a quadruped... reminds me of that four-legged robot. Sorry.
-Also, this things have no face, they’re just minions.
-Mmm... weren’t Toby’s eyes turquoise?
-That’s an exquisite font. And this is coming from a designer.
-Is that an ice trail behind the bike?
-Ooh... Merlin’s tower is the new headquarters.
-Nomura! Barbara! Strickler! Freaking Eli besides Steve and being taller than him!
-Claire with her new hairstyle and old outfit! I’m a little sad because, while I was hoping to see this, part of me wanted a new cosplay project.
-Also lots of Akiridion tech.
-So Bellroc controls the Fire Titan, of course, Skrael is inside the Ice One, Nari in the Earth One... we still need air, since ice is technically water.
-Strickler in Troll form but wearing his normal outfit is weird... maybe it’s the colors. They clash with his skin.
-Hey, Blinky is not wearing a sling anymore. So time has passed?
-Aja’s hair is wayyy longer.
-Some travelling... looks nice.
-Vex got his own mecha.
-Yes, you have the support of all your friends and fans, Jim. Go put that sword out of the stone!
-Hey, cool artefact, Douxie. Is that a piece of the Heart of Avalon?
-Yay!!!!!!!!
-Eh... a gem? A ‘magic’ gem?
-Poor Stuart.
-Yep, mecha v.s. Titan.
-Okay, so Jim's hand is burned when he lifts Excalibur but now he has it but his hands are intact. Eh... a wizard did it?
-The Fire Titan has a sword and is taking a Heartstone. Are they going to use its energy?
-For the looks of it, there’s something important inside The Güerito and Krel is protecting it until they got somewhere.
-Hope they won’t try to attack the Titans separatedly. Guys, you’re stronger together!
-Agh, that hug doesn’t look like a happy one.
-Yeah, I need more Douxie content.
-Is that tornado purple? It looks purple.
-So, the new armor just appears from nowhere? Maybe Jim has to ‘earn’ it, like in his first fight with Bular.
- “This summer, they will rise.” Is that Blinky or Kelsey talking?
-Oh, my, I really hope there’s some slow moments in the movie.
