THE ODDEST COUPLE: Carrie Underwood will open three of Guns N’ Roses’ North American gigs in August.
METALLICA, FROM TEXAS TO THE WORLD: Metallica’s Aug. 18 and 20 concerts in Texas - each night with a different setlist - will be simulcast in movie theaters worldwide.
HORNSBY TO MAKE SOME SPIRIT TRAIL NOISE: Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers will celebrate 25 years of Spirit Trail with a “special tour” in the fall. Attendees will receive a copy of the Spirit Trail 25th-anniversary Edition box set; “more on that soon,” Hornsby said.
MOVIN’ OUT (BILLY’S MSG SWAN SONG): Billy Joel’s residency at Madison Square Garden will end in July 2024 on the occasion of his 150th gig at the venue, thus ending a monthly tradition that began in 2014.

This was a very fun chapter to revisit--I originally started writing the draft I am updating eight years ago, so reading it again after all this time, it's like I've never read it before. What you've been reading hasn't been just small edits here and there, either, I've been making some somewhat substantial changes. The character of Arif wasn't even in the original draft but I created an entire scene with him because it was a better way to deal with Ryca than having Sato just happen to be a master hacker (ugh--too easy!) and I named him after a buddy of mine from a previous dayjob. We're not in close touch anymore, but it makes me remember those days together. My old friend aside, in this chapter I got to rewrite a bunch of stuff that was clearly the result of a bad night of bad writing. A lot of the "beyond the 33rd" stuff I had written was too vague and what wasn't vague was to cliche--almost comical. Plus I had the idea of a for a future antagonist and I introduced them in a very subtle way.

You don't hear Ransom as he returns home from work, tossing his bag beside the door with a quiet grumble. As always, he's not in the best mood after spending nearly six hours at his grandfather's, helping the old writer with the logistics of his business. He can't wait to spend time with you, the sunshine that always brightens his day and erases any worries that might be floating around in his mind. He doesn't see you as he looks around the living room, but what he does see catches him off guard. On the floor, across the room, sits a strange-looking contraption— some sort of swing. He lets out a gasp as he sees what's sitting inside: a tiny baby whose big, bright eyes are looking over at him with a darling sense of curiosity.
"Oh my," Ransom hums to himself. He stands frozen for a few moments, looking around the room again. You're nowhere to be found. "Now what are you doing here all alone?" he hums softly, finally building up the courage to start making his way over to the swing.
He stops several feet away, just observing the tiny being. Judging by the sweet pink lettering on her jumper that spells out Mama's Girl, he's able to easily guess the infant's gender. "My goodness," the large man whispers, his face softening as the sweet little girl smiles at the sound of his voice, "you're so tiny. What're you doing here, hmm? Was y/n looking after you this afternoon?"
He sits down cross-legged on the floor, scooting himself up a bit more as the baby sways gently in the swing, clapping her tiny hands together clumsily to show the stranger that she's happy to see him. Ransom bites back a smile, reaching out a hand to brush back the little one's thin tufts of hair. "Hi there, pretty girl," he murmurs, "Are you clappin' for me? That's so nice of you, sweetheart. What a smart girl you are."
The infant claps a few more times, giggling softly as a defeated smile finally crosses the brown-haired man's face. "You're too sweet," he admits, stroking the baby's chubby little cheek. "I wonder where y/n is, hmm? Have you seen her?" he asks comically, his grin widening as the baby just continues to wiggle and smile in the swing. "You wanna come out, sweetheart? C'mere, let me hold you."
His hands are steady and careful as he gently unbuckles her from the swing, being sure to support her neck and head as he lifts her up and brings her to his chest. "Oh my," his voice flutters as she tucks her tiny head against his shoulder, snuggling right up to him. "There you go, angel. I got you," he whispers, stroking her hair as he bounces her gently in his arms.
"Welcome home," you giggle as you enter the doorway to the kitchen, your heart swelling at the sight of the giant man holding the tiny baby so carefully, as if she's the most precious thing in the world.
"Look, there's y/n!" Ransom coos excitedly to the little one, causing her to look over at you and offer you a huge, toothless smile. "I bet she missed you!"
"Looks like you're Uncle Ran, huh?" you joke as you join the two on the floor, rubbing the tiny girl's back as Ransom sways and cradles her. "Never knew you liked babies."
"Me neither," the man chuckles, looking down at your niece with the gentlest smile. "But I think this little one might've changed my mind. Look at how tiny she is. So tiny and precious, aren't you?" he fusses her again, earning a chorus of giggles from the baby as he messes her hair carefully. "How long is she staying?" Ransom asks, looking back up at you. "Can we see her again soon? I'll take off work, Harlen won't mind— we should bring her over to see him! He loves kids."
"Hey, hey, slow down," you laugh, leaning over to kiss the sweet man's forehead as you remind him, "I haven't even told you her name yet."

Besides her first language being Portuguese(pt-br), she can also speaks english, spanish and french.

She’s closer to her mother than she is to her father. They don’t have a good relationship.

Your sleep started to fade away as you opened your eyes and saw the ceiling of the bedroom full of pictures of you, Rudy and your best friends. Your lips turned into a little smile and you felt a strong pair of arms hold you closer to another body.
Rudy...
You looked at him, with his face buried between your boobs, his arms around your waist holding you in place, his legs intertwined with yours and one of your hands buried in his blond locks. His sleepy face was the most beautiful one at this time of the morning and just seeing him sleep was relieving, because he was so excited at the day before for his birthday, even looked like a little boy. Your little boy.
Then you noticed, your little birthday boy.
You tried to move to grab your cellphone to see which hour it was, but as you tried to move, Rudy held you more tied. You tried again, but nothing seemed to work and just sighed laying in bed defeated. You waited a few minutes and started to drift off to sleep again until he turned around and laid your body upwards his.
You took one of the pillows and put it between his arms, as it was you. You got out of bed and stared at his sleepy state for a while, just waiting to see if he was going to wake up, but when he didn't, you tiptoed out of the bedroom and send a last glance to him.
As you walked to the kitchen and passed in front of a mirror in the hallway, you noticed that you were wearing just one of his shirts your favourite and a pair of panties his favourite. You could even hear Rudy saying how gorgeous you looked with his clothes, just like every day.
Your cellphone vibrated and you saw a notification of Chase, saying that Madelyn had just called to the pub next to Drew's and reserved a table for all of you. You replied to him, thanking the couple and saying that Rudy was still asleep.
When you opened the fridge, you smiled to yourself when you noticed that you would be able to cook Rudy's favourite breakfast, pancakes with strawberries and chocolate. You put your playlist to play and the first song that came up was Only Angel by Harry Styles.
You connected the AirPods that JD gave to you for Christmas with your phone and started to dance while cooking four pancakes for Rudy and three for you. As the pancakes got ready and at the beautiful bed tray table you had bought especially for today, you got the coffee done and toke it to yours and Rudy's bedroom.
You opened the door slowly and saw that Rudy was now sleeping with the pillow under him 'thank god it's not me or I would be without air'.
"Good morning, sleepyhead." You said while walking to the bed and playing with his hair. Rudy groaned and turned around rubbing his eyes, he blinked a few times and smiled when he saw your face.
"Good morning, my love." His raspy voice sends shivers running up and down your spine and his sleepy smile made your knees weak, just like every other time.
"Sit." You whispered and tapped the headboard of the bed while Rudy adjusted himself to sit at the bed, you grabbed the breakfast and laid it down at Rudy's lap. You sat beside him in bed and eyed his face, waiting for a reaction. But all you got was a confused Rudy. "Breakfast birthday for the birthday boy..." You said and at the exact same second his face lighted up with the realisation that it was his birthday.
Rudy smiled at you and pecked your lips as a thank you. You two ate breakfast and had a super fun day with all of your friends. When you came back home, you saw how happy Rudy was, with all of the birthday wishes and gifts.
With his arms around you at the couch, while watching the movie he chose for the night, you knew that you wouldn't pick anything else in this world...
You loved him and he loved you too.

23. It’s cold today.
happy blurb weekend :)
Winter is by far the superior season in your opinion. You felt most confident when you were wearing cute layers. The best fashion was winter fashion and no one could tell you otherwise. The best food came during the winter: hot chocolate, warm, homemade soups, the holiday cookies in December. And then there was the snow. The white frozen water that fell from the sky, blanketing the city, canceling everything, was the best thing in your opinion.
The first snowfall of the year had you bouncing up and down like a child by the window, Jake watching you from the couch in amazement that someone could actually like the cold as much as you did.
“Can we please go to the Commons and have fun in the snow?” you ask him, throwing yourself on the couch next to him, causing him to spill some of his water on his chest.
“Ah, babe,” he whines, putting his glass on the table. “It’s cold today.”
“Yeah, and? It’s New England. We only have two seasons: winter and August, and it’s not August. Can we please, please, please go play in the snow?”
He groans, clearly not thrilled with the idea. You flash him your puppy dog face, knowing that he will say yes to anything you ask of him when you give it to him. “Fine,” he groans, pulling you up off the couch to go put on the proper attire, “But you owe me big time.”
“I will do anything you want for the rest of the night if we can go be idiots in the snow for a few hours,” you tell him, dragging him to your bedroom.
“I’m holding you to it.”
You drag him to the Boston Common, finding it already covered with people having snowball fights, making snow angels, building snowmen. You take his hand in yours, kissing his cheek before dragging him directly into the snow. “I love you so much for this.”
The two of you start building a snowman, the perfect sculpture that you top off with Jake’s hat from the Winter Classic a few years back. He takes a picture of you, your cheek almost touched the cold snow, lips pursed and your eyes closed, captioning it ‘ice, ice baby,’ knowing that the guys would flood the comments with chirps. He posts the photo, putting his phone in his pocket. He smiles at you, biting his bottom lip as he slowly walks toward you, one of his hands behind his back.
“What are you doing?” you ask, backing away from him.
Without a word, he launches a snowball at you, hitting you directly in the face. You shriek, gathering up snow to fire back at him, starting a mini snowball fight between the two of you. He lifts you up off the ground, spinning you around before bringing you back down to kiss you, his lips warm against your now frozen skin.
“Thanks for amusing me.”
“Thanks for making me come outside.”

Hello, everyone! So with COA being such a long-running series and new readers finding it constantly, I have come to realise that a lot of questions I get often repeat. So to keep everything easy and clear and friendly for everyone regardless of whether you started COA at the very beginning of the story or just recently found it, I have spent the day relaxing, eating junk food, and compiling this FAQ. Please read through it because chances are the answers are here somewhere. I have sectioned the guide into following: general, story, ships, original squad (OCs), AUS, OC!V and tips/advice. GENERAL:
when does this story update?
I try to keep a bi-weekly schedule (now usually Sunday updates). But I always let you know when the chapter is done by making a final word count post (pre edits).
do you have a masterlist?
yes, you can find it here.
do you have a tag list?
not for COA. they’re very time consuming and I’m already really busy sorry :(
are your requests open?
I rarely open my inbox for requests. the only exception being the monthly blurb nights. then I reblog a prompt list and let people send some requests in for any fandom/ship. however, usually due to how many I get, it only happens every few months. that being said, you can still send me ideas/suggestions and if it inspires me, I will write it. that’s how the majority of the AUs have come about. but i’m also a very busy person so sorry if I can’t.
can I make X or Y for COA and tag you?

25. the last one being a very long epilogue.
have you decided on the ending yet?
yes. from as early as part 2. it's barely changed since.
will we ever see more of Prague/Naples? hoe, please say yes.
yes. I plan to write both as COA bonus stories after the main story-line concludes.
will there be a sequel?
depends. on two things: 1) if anyone will even care by that point 2) time. this story has consumed 5 months of my life entirely. i’ve been incredibly strict with myself when it comes to writing it (in a good way) but at best it won’t be finished till the end of august/beginning of september. so likely even if I do, there will be a break for a few months at least. I do have ideas though.

I would describe it more as “bittersweet” but whether it leans more towards bitter or sweet you’ll have to see.

lucien is a messy hoe. mika is his subject of “affection” but v is his foil and equal. he recognises the same hurt in her that he has gone through himself so it’s more of a fixation. with time, lucien would likely destroy v so no bueno.

whenever I have time/inspo. mainly time. so this means you can get it daily or not get it for several weeks because COA is priority. I keep you all updated on when I have something cooking tho.
what is the actual pairing for vamp!au?
undecided as of yet. i’m leaning more towards ot3 right now but we shall see.
how often do you update flowing in me?
same as the above. whenever I have the time but I will keep you updated.
how many parts will flowing in me be?
I have 5 parts(ish) planned.

this story is mainly camorra-centric but I do plan for John to appear at some point.
how did you come up with your lore in vamp!au?
to be completely honest....I just wrote a bunch of stuff down and used what stuck. mostly the ideas were pulled out of thin air while still trying to keep within the spirit of the canon material (the high priest, the holy church, the twelve priests, john being the boogeyman etc). camorra as the natural enemy seemed fitting and santino as a vampire prince even more so.
can we send you new au ideas/expand on old ones (manager!V etc)?
yes, always. I always try my hardest to reply but ofc I can’t promise I’ll be able to use them all but thank you in advance.

I have considered creating something original out of COA itself or one of its sister series/concepts (like FIM). since I really started working on COA during last year’s NaNo, that might be the time I create something original this year.
TIPS & ADVICE:
how do you write so much, so quickly?
I don’t think that word count is really reflective of the quality work itself. I don’t think you should worry how much you write, either. 100 words can be just as valuable as 1k. most of them time I have a deadline breathing down my neck and I do work well under pressure so that inspires me to force the chapters out. I also do very long days because despite what it might look like I’m not a fast writer.
how can I improve my writing?
read and practice. I know it’s dumb and overused advice but it’s how I learned english and found my style (still a mess and WIP) but still this advice does help.
how do you keep motivated?
spite, your support, genuine adoration for these characters/word, a lot of spite.
do you plan? outline?
I have a vague story outline with specific scenes in mind as I go along (helps to set up foreshadowing, twists, and those ‘full circle’ moments). I also plan each chapter scene by scene and know what each chapter is meant to accomplish. So yeah in a sense.

As I did with my 1K celebration, there are two parts to this - one is a blurb week (more than a week lads just saying I write for too many characters eek) and the other part is this: a writing challenge!!
This time around I decided to do a British Comedy Theme (yeah I was watching an episode of Outnumbered when I decided on this) so under the cut are the prompts, the characters and the rules!!

This is a card illustration from Fetch Quest, our family-friendly game of exploring the Realms of Pugmire. Fetch Quest‘s Kickstarter funded in less than a day, and one of the reasons we are running the KS is to enable us to have the coinage to add even more new card art, like this one.
You’ll also note that we’re calling it “family -friendly”, to suggest that all ages could enjoy and understand the game. Rather than say that it’s just for kids, because, you know, it’s not.
We’re also making sure to say that the game is set in the Realms of Pugmire as opposed to just pushing Pugmire itself. There’s a logical reason, which is that we don’t know where all the Quests and their missions might take place in the setting. In the Kingdom of Pugmire is a bit different than in the wilds outside the kingdom, after all.
But we also want to use Stretch Goals to expand the game to include the cats from the Monarchies of Mau, and maybe even other uplifted animal explorers. Collectively, Mau and the other areas of the setting go together with the Kingdom of Pugmire to be collectively called the Realms of Pugmire.
You’ll continue to see us (Onyx Path and Pugsteady) release and license other projects under the Realms of Pugmire banner as we get more and more cool projects arranged for and created.

Finally, I ran across an interesting take on the side-benefits of Community Content sites, like our own Canis Minor for Pugmire, and Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands, besides the overt one of allowing creators in our community to be able to publish, and get paid for, their own projects set in these worlds.
When you put up your own project, you’re essentially putting out a paid audition piece if you’re interested in actually doing official work for the company. We’re definitely looking at our Community Content creators to see if they have what we need in our freelancers. You might just see some of those names in official projects pretty soon, if you haven’t already.
It’s not guaranteed, of course, but in the various tips and tricks folks use to get professional work, Community Content is a new arrow in the quiver. Plus, because both Scarred Lands and Pugmire use the D&D5e ruleset as a base, you’re not only just auditioning for us, but for any 5e publisher out there, and there are a lot of them.

Fetch Quest, the adventure card game set in the Realms of Pugmire went live last Tuesday, May 22 and funded in under a day, and now we’re over 250% funded and are working on Stretch Goals that add a group of cats from the Monarchies of Mau to the game as alternative adventurers.
