Common Boomslang (Dispholidus typus), juvenile, defensive display, family Colubridae, South Africa
This is a rear-fanged Colubrid snake, that is actually highly venomous, very dangerous to humans.
The famous herpetologist Karl Schmidt died from a Boomslang (a juvenile, no less) bite in 1957. He did not think that a rear-fanged snake could deliver a deadly bite. (In his defense, most herpetologists at that time concurred with this assumption.)
Most rear-fanged snakes are not seriously injurious to humans.
Venomous.

Boomslang snakes get used as "ooh ultra dangerous venomous snake" in movies and books pretty often because they have a good sounding name. This is funny as someone who occasionally has to worry about which venomous Southern African snakes they might run into because the boomslang is probably near the bottom of my list of concerns, they're very timid snakes AND they're back fanged AND their venom is extremely slow acting, so they don't bite often, they don't always actually envenomate, and when they do you still have like 24 hours to get antivenom before there's irreparable damage to your blood.
In contrast you really gotta watch out for puff adders. Much faster acting venom and way crankier. Wear boots.

I love how, according to every study testing the snake detection hypothesis, many primate senses have evolved with a focus on detecting snakes specifically* so we can better avoid them.
...And then there are the freaks (affectionate) who look at snakes and go "Aaaaw! So cuuute! <3".
Darren, that's a boomslang. If it bites you you'll bleed out of every orifice.
"But look at the cute danger noodle! :3"
Tumblr media
Darren, I get they're cute, but why would you keep one in your house? You can't even pet it! At least get one you can pet!
=-=-=
* A recent study, for example, showed test subjects blurry images of animals, making them gradually slightly less blurry. The first animal everyone was able to recognize accurately well before the others?
Danger noodles.

YOGA
[...] Technovintage is in the final phase of its new creation, the album "YOGA", bringing together ideas ranging from Yoga methods, to current experimental music producers, to Tenebrism painters and much more related to what caused and still causes curiosity in producer, from his childhood until now in his adult state.
At 24 years old, after producing many albums, eps and mixtapes, at this moment, this project sounds like something totally new, as I hadn't produced anything since 2021, so this time just releasing projects that were created a while ago, without creating anything new, he unleashed a more acidic and clear life regarding his vision of music and the world.
The covers will bring references to Tenebrism works, the songs are inclined to sounds created by Aphex Twin, Sophie, Arca, Grimes among others, the references of each track bring memories, as if it were a concentration of feelings made to bring oneself back, the channeling of songs with a lot of euphoria but with a lot of feeling and atmospheric effects, a work that brings pop, techno, new age, experimental and a lot of synth!! Everything the producer loves and likes most!!
The sequence of singles will show the specific duality of this era, the first half of the album is more spiritual and the second half more physical! [...]

What does "mildly venomous" mean?
Tumblr media
Mangrove Snake (Boiga dendrophila), "mildly venomous", from SE Asia, though severe pain and swelling may occur, envenomation by this rear-fanged snake is not considered to be life threatening.
Mildly Venomous Snakes
This phrase refers to a snake that delivers venom that is not usually medically serious to humans, though may have some "mild effects" on them.
Many rear fanged Colubrid snakes are mildly venomous, although there are a few that are actually quite seriously venomous, or even deadly, like the Boomslang or Vine snakes in the genus Thelotornis.
There are also a few Colubrid snakes, like garter snakes, that have such mild venom, that I don't even refer to them as venomous at all. These snakes do not have fangs, the venom is a component of the saliva, normally, and enters through the bite wound.
Many of these "mild venoms" are more effective against cold-blooded animals.
Side notes:
Tumblr media
Savanna Vine Snake (Thelotornis capensis), family Colubridae, from Africa, rear-fanged and deadly.
Famously, the herpetologist Robert Mertens died in 1975, from a bite from this snake. It was not, at that time, known to be deadly by western scientists.
The renowned herpetologist Karl Schmidt died in 1957 from a bite from a juvenile Boomslang, another african rear-fanged snake. Schmidt had underestimated the potency of this animal's venom.

my silly little ultrakill oc that's just a snake with robot leg. I'm not sure what type of snake I want them to be but maybe a pit viper of some type? I'm thinking probably a venomous snake that's venom causes lots of bleeding to power its robot legs. I could use a boomslang but I feel like it's funnier if it's a smaller snake because the image of Gabriel screaming at a small deadly snake that's in a tube with robot legs.
I think either some species of pit viper given that a few of those have venom that causes flesh decay and many don't have any antivenom or a boomslang because their venom causes bleeding from every opening
