I cannot stress enough that this might be the most important doll I've posted about.

Meet Jafra, the Palestinian fashion doll.

Information on her took a bit of digging, but as far as I can tell she debuted in either December 2015 or January 2016. She was initially available for purchase through her website, and after a year began to be (and still is as) sold at Hamleys in Jordan, UAE, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. In 2021 the Palestine Museum began selling her for $49.99 each, and is now completely sold out.

Each doll wears a detailed thobe, the longer one in front for their bridal collection. The thobe is a traditional Palestinian dress with tatreez (embroidery) which uses color to indicate what region the wearer is from. During the First Intifada in the 80s, it became a symbol of resistance against Israeli Apartheid, and of Palestinians' connection to their land. As far as I can tell based on discrepancy in stock photos, the dolls with embroidered thobes were considered collectors items with a higher price. Meanwhile the details might have been printed for playline/budget releases, likely to lower the price for better availability.

Jafra's dream is to "empower all the beautiful girls from the Middle East". She lives away from her homeland, but hopes to design and build her own house in Palestine. She grows Chamomile and Thyme in her garden, studies architectural design in college, and always tries to volunteer and help others. Her thobe binds her to her home country, passed down from her ancestors.

Met Gala 2023: My Top 10 Women’s Looks

Here we go, this is my 10 women’s looks from the Met Gala 2023. Just to remind everyone that my opinions are mine alone, so feel free to agree or disagree with me as much as you like. However I will not tolerate any hate personally aimed at me if you disagree with me to the point where you want to start an argument. So let’s keep it respectful, clean (language wise) and more importantly let’s have some fun with this. Like I said, if you’re looking for an argument, then you’re following the wrong fashion blog. 

1. Kim Kardashian wearing Schiaparelli. This was the first look I saw this morning when I switched my phone on and I was blown away by it. I honestly didn’t know what to expect from Kim after her look from last year that got a lot of people talking. So I was pleasantly surprised to see her in an original design that shows off her body in all the right places and I love the draped pearls across her breasts (which are actually covered by a nude bra). Overall it was another Met Gala and another show stopping moment from Kim Kardashian.

2. Doja Cat wearing Oscar De La Renta In comparison to Jared Leto, Doja Cat understood the theme and took it to a whole other level that was both unexpected but not at the same time. I loved the use of prosthetics that complimented her simple yet stunning crystallised gown. Plus who doesn’t love a gown with a hood that has cat ears coming out the top that makes you look like a fashionista rather than someone attending a Halloween party?

3. Gigi Hadid wearing Givenchy I’m a sucker for a black gown that comes not just with a corset but a lot of tulle draped perfectly in all the right places as well. Gigi just looked stunning in this and considering a lot of attendee’s were also wearing either black or white, her Givenchy gown stood out when I was scrolling endlessly through all the looks earlier today. Simple, yet perfect sums up her look that I couldn't not add to my top 10 favourites. 4. Cardi B wearing Chenpeng Studio  I just loved the edgy yet alternative bridal look that also incorporated a masculine energy through the shirt and tie design blended with a corset that still made the overall gown look and feel feminine as well as beautiful. I’m not a fan of Cardi B as a rapper but like Kim Kardashian her Met Gala looks have never disappointed and I think this look was one of her best yet. 

5. Devon Aoki wearing Jeremy Scott Even though it’s yet another black & white gown, I just love the cartoon styled wings on the bust line of the corset. To me it made this gown stand out in the sea on monochrome that plagued the Met Gala 2023. Without that unique design, this gown would’ve gone unnoticed and it would’ve easily become another gown that was worn to the wrong event.

6. Florence Pugh in Valentino Florence has been killing it with her red carpet looks in the last 18 months or so, so it was no surprise that she would turn heads at the Met Gala. Whilst I'm not a fan of Valentino since Pierpaolo Piccioli took over as creative designer when Maria Grazi Chiuri left for Dior back in 2016, I can’t help but love this look. A simple white gown paired with a huge feather crown just looked stunning on Florence and it’s another reason why we love seeing show stopping numbers like this one.

7. Glenn Close wearing Erdem Moralıoğlu Similar to Florence Pugh’s look, Glenn Close just looked phenomenal in her Erdem Moralıoğlu design. Once again it was simple yet stunning and I loved the colour on her. It suited her to a tee and what better way to pair a simple gown that with a huge pale blue cape and the sparkliest jewellery of the night. It just goes to show that anyone of any age and can look amazing when dressed perfectly for the Met Gala.

8. Liu Wen wearing Tory Burch I just love how simple the gown is yet at the bottom it’s filled with white flowers that make the Tory Burch gown stand out amongst hundreds of Met Gala looks. The whole look screams red carpet but it’s also the ideal gown for a bride who doesn’t want to wear white to her wedding. Liu Wen just looked stunning in it and it’s why her look has made it into my top 10. 

9. Salma Hayek wearing Gucci I just love that it wasn’t black or white and the sharpness of the red looked phenomenal on Salma both in the PVC corset and the long tiered skirt. Plus the subtle draping of the pearls as straps just topped the look off altogether. Once again I loved everything about it and I can’t fault it at all. It was perfect.  10. Tems wearing Robert Wun This gown was a standout for all the right reasons. Tems looked absolutely gorgeous from head to toe and I love how all the feathers are perfectly placed on both the gown, the gloves and the headpiece from stepping over that line from haute couture into a costume. The shape of the gown also compliments her body to her a tee and I couldn’t think of anything better that Tem’s could’ve worn to the Met Gala.  So this concludes my top 10 looks from the Met Gala 2023. I have to say picking this list was hard because there were so many another amazing designs worn last night, however these 10 stand out to me the most. Listen, I know I said in this post from June 15th that Emily is perfect as a civilian, and I was vindicated when the Invasion story missions dropped and showed that Emily is holed up in some bunker in King's Row with omnics and bigots alike.

but Blizzard, PLEASE, I need more Emily content. I am starving. She deserves to be given a canon voice like Iggy in the Underworld mission. She deserves to have a canon last name. She deserves the world.

It's so infuriating that the Lena and Emily spray even gets censored in Play of the Games and highlights. I mean, I get why (and you can ask the winners of the 2023 Overwatch World Cup if you don't) but damn it!

I am SO sick and tired of seeing people ship Lena with men, whether it be self-ships, generic nude models in Blender, or male playable characters. (If you fall into one of those categories, please let me know so I can block your disgusting ass.)

I need the cishets to know- to have it absolutely drilled into their skulls- that Lena is dating Emily Overwatch. Give me a voice line about her in the Hero Gallery. Give me a weapon charm version of the Lena and Emily spray, or at least a weapon charm of an orange heart that says "Emily" in the center. Give me a victory pose where Lena is bridal-carrying Emily. Anything.

Also, this is going to sound very weird, but the "Caught you staring!" voice line still makes me uncomfortable every time I hear it in game. I get that Lena is a playful person, but did we learn nothing from the Over the Shoulder controversy in 2016? (Even the current Over the Shoulder victory pose makes me uncomfortable. It's one of the few victory poses I don't have favorited in the Hero Gallery. Why would Lena be striking a pose from a WW2 pinup poster?) I remember hearing complaints that it's unfair that Lifeweaver, Baptiste, and Mauga get to flirt with each other while our lesbian characters don't get to flirt with women, but Lena is in a loving relationship. I think she should be able to express an aesthetic attraction towards female characters (like Sombra saying "You're cuter up close" to any gender like the bisexual icon she is when getting a melee kill), but she should not be alluding to her butt whenever you use all three Blinks. The internet is so quick to objectify Overwatch characters, and it's disappointing to see Blizzard fueling those flames.

Rant aside, I also want to point out that Lena tells Emily to let the omnics in the bunker know about Null Sector.

I remember joking in a Discord server with friends who don't go here but know Lena "Tracer" Oxton is my lifeblood about the idea of Lena having paparazzi that write articles such as "The Rumour Come Out: Does Tracer from Overwatch is Gay?" after seeing them casually plan to meet Emily at the pub in London Calling Issue 1. Does everyone in the bunker just know Emily is Lena's girlfriend? Either way, I love to imagine the conversation that would ensue.

"So, omnics, I've gathered you here today to discuss some important matters. As you may or may not know, Tracer from Overwatch is my girlfriend, and uh... A majority of the omnic population in Toronto has been abducted and possibly even had their minds wiped. Overwatch was late, so they couldn't do anything about it. Sure, Null Sector could very well be breaking into this bunker in no time at all, but Overwatch is prepared now! We're going to be okay... I think."

I'll finish this off by saying that, if she can't come to Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Emily should at least be added to the Miscellaneous section of the Intel Database.

Which, if you told yourself two days ago that you would be blushing over a dead football player, would sound absolutely insane. Sitting up, you check the time. 9:00 AM. School has been going for a while now.

You sit up, swinging your legs from the couch to the floor. You pull out the change of clothes you always keep in your backpack. Nothing fancy, a light pink Harley Davidson shirt, a gray zip up hoodie, and plaid pajama pants. You quickly change, deciding to leave your shoes off, but socks on. What's the harm? You’d be here for.. A while. May as well get comfortable, right? 

You walk through the halls, peering into some classrooms. Everything seems oddly unchanged. There's a small memorial for you in the drama room, but that's about it. As you finally reach the gym, you have to blink away the tears you feel beginning to form in your eyes. 

Taking a deep breath, you open the doors to the gymnasium. The group is there, sitting in their little circle. There's a chair for you, between Charley and Wally. You walk over to it and sit down, feeling somewhat mortified as to what the morning had held for you so far. You pulled your knees to your chest, letting your face fall into them. You wanted to disappear, but it didn’t seem you could anymore than you already had.

You feel Wally’s hand on your back, and then see his face in your line of sight. Your eyes had betrayed you and tears were steadily flowing out of them. The more you tried to stop, the more you wanted to cry. Before you could process it, Wally had swept you up in his arms and was carrying you out of the gym. 

“What’re you-” You began a sentence.

“I could see you crying. I’m not gonna let you put yourself through sitting there silently crying. I can’t watch that.” He set you down as you were in the hallway now.

‘I have too many times already.’ He thought to himself. You pressed your back against a wall and slowly slid down, crumbling into tears.. 

“What happened?” He sat down next to you, arms propped up on his knees, looking slightly down at you.

“I was walking around and everything was just- Nothing changed after I died, Wally. It’s like I was never even here.” You curled in on yourself as you spoke.

Oh how badly he wished he could tell you how much he loves you, how much he wants to be with you. About how he cared about you, he has since he saw you. He knows everything. But he doesn’t want to scare you. 

“It’s gonna be okay. C’mere.” He opened his arm, allowing you to curl against the side of his body and cry into his letterman jacket. You sobbed for what felt like hours. Eventually you fell asleep on him, probably from exhaustion. 

“Oh, you’re so precious.” He mumbled to you as he slowly and carefully picked you up. He carried you bridal style, and your hand found its way to his jacket. You gripped his jacket and pulled yourself closer to him, still asleep. He ended up having to leave his jacket with you because you wouldn’t let it go. He carried you to the teachers lounge, setting you on the couch. He kissed your forehead and intended to leave after that.

But then you whimpered his name in your sleep. It made his cock twitch more than he would’ve liked to admit. He wanted to touch you, to feel your body. But he had to wait. He had to find the right time. It was too soon. He fought the dark thoughts that he had, the ones of pinning you down and taking what he wanted- no matter what you said. So he turned and walked out of the door. He had more strength than he thought. 

February 3rd, 2016

It was getting closer to Valentine's day. The tension between you and Wally had been growing by the day, and you were almost certain that he was going to ask you to be his Valentine. Though, you weren't really sure if they did that here or not.

“Hey Y/n.” Wally walks up to you, as you sit on the football field picking at grass. 

“Hi Wally.” You looked up at him as he fidgeted with his golden chain. He sat down next to you, extremely close. He looked at you, but something was different in his eyes. 

“Are you okay?” You question, touching his shoulder lightly. He reacts quickly, taking your hand and pinning you to the grass. 

“You’re such a tease.” He growled in your ear. You shuddered at his hot breath against your neck. He moved his hands to where one was pinning your hands to the ground, and the other had your hip pinned. 

“Wally what do you-” He slapped you before you could respond. You felt your legs squeeze as he did this. Your mind raced. 

How did he know you liked this stuff? You haven't mentioned it at all. 

“Shut up, you’ll speak when spoken to.” You nod in agreement, biting your lip. 

“Let me tell you how this is going to work, sweetheart.” You feel his fingers trace along the lines of your pajama pants, slightly dipping below them. 

“You’re stuck here with me,” His hand moves below your pants, beginning to rub against your throbbing cunt. You began to try and fight him, not wanting to be touched like this.

“So I will do as I please with you, and if you don’t submit,” He let out a low chuckle at your struggling against him, and the small whimpers falling from your lips. 

Suddenly, he punched you in the stomach. Your vision blurred with tears, and you stopped squirming. 

“Good girl,” He mumbled, rubbing your stomach where he hit it. 

“See, if you don't struggle, I don't have to hurt you.” He smiled like he said something sweet and romantic.

“It was your fault, I had to hit you, you wouldn’t stop fighting me.” He comforted you as you looked confused and scared. 

He sighed, realizing he needed to dial it back. He could have more fun later. 

“C’mere baby,” He sat the both of you up, allowing you to crawl into his lap. 

“Just my little girl. My dumb, useless baby. Can’t do anything on your own.” You felt yourself relaxing as he manipulated you into a pacified state. You didn’t mind this. Maybe it was your fault he hit you.

are there any examples of batjokes being gentle? i guess? with each other? other than bruce carrying joker bridal style or in TBWL when he held joker after he shot himself

Depends on your definition of "gentle", I suppose. If that includes Bruce saving Joker's life, often in dramatic ways and holding/carrying Joker bridal-style, he's done that a lot-- not just in Batman Who Laughs. But besides that... they do have quieter moments. They're rarer and not necessarily divorced from violence, because (to quote a line from Hannibal), violence is the language they best understand. But they're there.

The most obvious one is the ending of The Killing Joke, Bruce offering Joker his help and telling him he isn't alone, and then them laughing together while clinging to each other:

Another underrated moment that I'm personally very fond of comes from Legends of the Dark Knight (2012), and an arc called "Haunted Arkham". In it, the ghost of a little girl who was killed by the current head psychiatrist at Arkham begins to take over the residents, invoked by the head psychiatrist himself. Bruce realizes what must've happened to the little girl, who (of course) possesses Joker as her main avatar of revenge. She uses Joker to kill her tormentor, and after it happens, Bruce and Joker have this poignant scene:

That sock puppet Joker gives Bruce is the shape the little girl had taken to talk to Joker in previous issues, and he just accepts it. Bruce doesn't attack Joker either for killing the guy. They both clearly... felt for the child. (And don't even get me started on the meta aspect of it all, because what Joker's describing here is in many ways his own approach to loving Batman, hurting him so that he'd always pay attention to him and never forget him; which is why the little girl latches onto Batman too, and waits for him through Joker after the murder, because of the implied understanding.)

I'd also count Fool's Errand as a gentler moment. It's the anniversary of Jason Todd's death, and a child is missing (with only Joker having the information needed to save her, because he caused her kidnapping to happen), so you can imagine the kind of projection and grief that Bruce has got going on.

Joker covers it up as another ploy to get under Bruce's skin, but it doesn't entirely read like that. It reads like part of Joker compensates for Jason's death and lets Bruce have this win, this moment where he does manage to get there in time and save the child. ("Why? Just... because." And then he comes up with a reason Bruce would believe.)

Though, maybe one of their most gentle moments is during their amnesiac time. After Batman: Endgame... and does dying together the way they did count as gentle? Either way, the implication of Capullo's unused cover for that last issue is striking:

So they die, likely in each other's arms, but are brought back to life without their memories by the dionesium. And then (because the Universe apparently always brings these two together) amnesiac Bruce and Joker meet on a bench and have this iconic moment, in which Joker pretty much asks Bruce not to become Batman again and let them both rest:

The whole issue is beautiful, but my favorite is Joker (the champion of "nothing matters") telling Bruce (the champion of "everything matters") that it's okay for things to not have a point, that being alive and present is enough. Truly tragic that Bruce doesn't remember this.

Then there's a moment during the Rebirth Wedding arc, when Joker finds out about Bruce and Selina being engaged, and goes after them:

It's another instance of a deep understanding between them, an island of quiet within a river of violence.

Some of my favourite runway shows

Here are some of my favourite fashion shows, I'd really recommend giving them a watch or reading up on any that interest you. Please feel free to tell me about some of your personal favourite fashion shows!

Versace, autumn/winter 1991. To me, this show is timeless. Not only does it feature some beautiful pieces, but it also has what I'd consider one of the most iconic moments in fashion history. Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, and Cindy Crawford walking arm in arm and lip-synching is runway perfection and made the girls real supermodels.

Victoria's Secret Fashion show, 2013. This show is so ridiculously fun and over the top! I love the angel's looks and everything about the show feels so carefully planned and enjoyable. Taylor Swift's performance is also definitely a highlight.

Christian Dior, autumn/winter 2007. Honestly, this show is so beautiful. It was held at Marie-Antionette's former home and the models all look incredible. The outfits are so pretty and over the top and the whole theme of the show comes through perfectly.

Chanel, spring/summer 2019. This show brought Chanel back to its roots of being a fashion house focused on functionality and chic fashion. The runway itself is beyond iconic and I love a summer/beach theme. While some of the clothing feels a little too logo-centric for my taste, there still are some incredible pieces.

Yohji yamamoto, spring 1999. One of the most beautiful bridal collection. The use of colour is so simple and so exquisite, the pieces falling is incredible. This show is incredible.

Michael Kors, spring 2017. This show has an incredible casting and such fun, upbeat clothing! The live orchestra adds such a lovely touch as well, making this an enjoyable watch.

Alexander McQueen, spring 2005. This fashion show is so beautiful. The chess game theme is so interesting and unique, the outfits and colours are gorgeous and the whole show is so engaging and magical.

Givenchy, spring 2016. The staging is iconic and so dramatic, this collection embodies what Riccardo's past vision was. The show was held at sunset and the impact is incredible. The fashion is stunning and impactful and this was such a brilliant show.
