This has been sitting in my drafts for a while. It was suppose to be a chapter 2 of this, but i never finished it:
December 1941
The fire pops and a spark flies out, then extinguishes in the air before it hits anyone, anything. Paul, who stands right beside her, watches curiously as Eglantine pokes the fire iron into the fireplace to readjust the burning wood. The fire strengthens, and Paul lets out an astonished puff at the sight before him. She admires his ability to see magic in the most customary circumstances. He lifts a hand as if to touch it. “Be careful, Paul,” she warns. “Fire can be dangerous and very unpredictable if not handled properly.”
Carrie enters with a tray of hot coffee and pudding. Mrs. Hobday–or, Jessica, as she is known in more intimate moments–moves to assist her in taking it to the table. “You'll burn yor mitts right off, that you will,” Carrie says in a stern tone only meant for her brothers and, on occasion, Emelius–whenever he joins in on their misbehaving.
Paul pulls his hand away. “I know not ter touch it,” he claims dominantly. He looks up at Eglantine with innocent eyes. “'onest, Miss, I do!”
“I believe you,” she says, guiding him away from the fireplace. “Still, it's best if you keep your distance.” Jessica gestures for him to join her on the sofa as Eglantine finishes tending to the fire.
“Oh, I forgot to tell you, dear,” says Jessica suddenly as Eglantine places the fire iron back onto its holder. “Mr. Jelk would like to meet with us at the museum tomorrow morning. Bright and early.”
Eglantine turns to her friend. “Whatever for?”
“Why else? To have us settle his disputes with Dr. Fletcher, of course.”
She shakes her head as she moves closer to them. “The committee chose the museum, not the church. When will he accept that?”
Mr. Jelk’s motives for most things seem to go beyond the Lord’s plan, especially regarding Eglantine’s informal adoption of the children and her courtship with Emelius. So, when the committee first announced Pepperinge Eye would open a convalescent home to treat wounded soldiers, the most logical place was, in fact, the spacious museum. However, Mr. Jelk offered his church of all places. After going back and forth for quite some time, Dr. Fletcher, along with the rest of the committee, finally agreed the location would be the museum. Mr. Jelk still insists on fighting it, despite everyone else moving on. Emelius suggests he acts the way he does because he wants to become the town’s savior: rather than doing things out of the goodness of his heart, he does it to be the hero, to make his image more pristine.
“When the war is over, perhaps,” Jessica says. “Or when he’s six feet underground.” The men enter with lit pipes in their hands and a chuckle in their throats. Charles trails close behind, imitating their comportment as much as his child self can manage. “Whichever comes first,” she adds as her husband finds his spot beside her. She and Eglantine laugh.
Emelius stands near Eglantine and takes a whiff from his pipe. Smoke fills above them as he asks, “What’s this?”
“Oh, nothing that hasn’t been said before,” Eglantine responds, her laughter still lingering. She moves to help Carrie pass out the dessert.
“You two seem to have taken your time,” Jessica says, her attention on her husband. Like every visit before, the two of them (often with Charles or Paul, or both, asking to come too) make their way into the parlor after dinner to discuss everything from Saturday’s local cricket match to the latest war news. “What was it that had you in there so long?”
Bill Hobday, her husband, serves as the General’s right hand man in the Home Guard when not working with his wife at the post office. His tall stature and round spectacles differentiates him from his peers, as well as his restful nature–in comparison to his wife, he is her opposite in every way. Eglantine knew him as a boy: fresh faced and shy, about to go fight in a war they all thought would be the last. The Hobdays and Prices were–and still are–very much family friends. Her father, before his passing, was very fond of the boy quickly-turned man. And she too is quite fond of him.
The room falls silent for neither Emelius nor Bill dare to speak, dare to blab.
“Well, my dear,” says Emelius with a slight discomfort in his tone, after a bit of insistence from Eglantine. “We were discussing… er, future business endeavors, you see.”
“Business endeavors?” questions Eglantine.
Charles smiles. “That’s right! Mr. Browne's opening a magic shop,” he tells them. “Right here in tahn: Mr. Browne’s Magical Emporium. Best shop in all o’ England, it'll be.” The children around them perk up; Paul especially looks thrilled. But there is a slight pause from the adults as Eglantine finds Emelius’s avoiding eyes. He almost looks ashamed, like a child being scolded for misbehaving. Perhaps because this is the first time she’s hearing of such plans–or, maybe, because he did not want her to know. Something unsettling bubbles in her stomach.
“Oh, how exciting,” Jessica responds before Eglantine can speak. Her eyes are kind and her smile is encouraging. Bill, however, does not share her enthusiasm. “It will be good to have a little magic in our lives. Take our minds off the real world for a bit, I think.”
“Does this mean we’re gahn back to Naboombu, then?” Paul blurts out. Listening to Emelius’s solo adventure in Naboombu has only strengthened his desire to return. Any mention of magic always ends with him asking about Naboombu.
“Naboombu, dear?” questions Jessica. Eglantine’s heart nearly drops. Paul, realizing his mistake, covers his mouth with his hands, his eyes popping out in panic. Charles and Carrie both turn to Eglantine, their expression much the same as Paul’s. The Hobdays remain seated, awaiting for an explanation but Eglantine cannot seem to find her words.
Emelius reaches into his pocket and pulls out his watch. “Oh, just a place from his favorite book we pretend to travel to sometimes. Dancing sea creatures. Rambunctious king lions. Dreary dungeons.” He mutters the part about the dungeon, a hint of disdain in his voice, in his expression. “You know how children’s imaginations soar these days,” he explains quickly and casually while checking the time. His attention turns to the children: “Bedtime, I think.”
“Say goodnight to Mr. and Mrs. Hobday,” commands Eglantine when she regains her composure. And the children all mumble variations of goodnights and goodbyes before ascending the steps toward their rooms.
She turns to see Jessica smiling at her. “What a happy family you five have become this last year,” she says. Her eyes go to Emelius, who shifts slightly. “Now all that’s left is for you to make it official…”
“Now Jess,” comes Bill’s protest, but Jessica always has to play matchmaker, no matter the circumstance:
I can see it in your eyes. You’re both so beguiled. You love her, you do. And she, I think you see, Loves you too.
“We’ll take our leave now,” says Bill, clearing his throat. He stands to shake Emelius’s hand, then kisses Eglantine’s cheek and mumbles an apology for his wife’s behavior.
Jessica says her goodbyes as Bill fetches their coats. “Remember my words, dear,” she tells Emelius. “Someone will swoop in and take your place, if you wait too long.”

Funny how you reblog that post about dark content when Shadow and bone is coming out soon and all your hoe friends will start promoting their toxic stuff again 🤔
...babes, have you not seen my masterlist? Let me share some things with you, okay?
The Art of Seclusion which deals with an OC trying to survive and the obsession of the man interested in her. (Divergent fic. Eric x oc) Find it on Ff.net and Ao3
Succumb (M) - Steve/OC- Dark Fic! Steve Rogers is betrayed. He’s not the only one.
The Choice (M) - Steve Rogers/You - Dark!Fic. Dark!Steve Rogers - After a horror marathon, you check under the bed only to find out that you should’ve looked sooner.
there’s a heaven above you (don’t you cry) - Lost Boys fic where the boys are clearly obsessed and make the OC worse
Wrong Number - Dark!Billy Russo/OC - When the burner phone rings, Billy expects another job for Rawlins. What he gets is someone calling the wrong number and Billy wants to know who. (Another obsession and kidnapping fic)
Empty Halls to Echo (Billy Russo x OC) - Billy has to take the stairs. He finds something unexpected. (A dark!Billy and dark!oc fic)
Noise Complaint (PG) - Charlie (from Jack Reacher) at her door is never a good thing…but at least he’s effective when it comes to dealing with the noise above her. (it's clearly implied he burned down her last apartment and has stalked her)
Making Friends (T?): “I’m waiting for my friends.”/“Hell, I can be your friend.” (Lost Boys fic with open/unhappy ending)
Untitled Request (M): Prompt: #3 “There’s nothing the cops will do about your stalker, nothing they can do against your monsterish pursuer.” Dark fic. (Lost Boys dark fic)
This doesn't even cover the rest of my Halloween/Horror Prompts - Various Characters, or the multitude of "Dark drabbles/ficlets" with named and unnamed characters I've written.
See? This has been going on for years, and funnily enough? My darker stuff is some of my most popular, so complain all you want about "toxic stuff" but no one's forcing you to read it. You're just trying to cause problems. Again.
Things are tagged for a reason, babes. If you can't read a tag and move on, that's your own problem. No one else's.

The Unforgiven 1960 (Photo - Lillian Gish behind the scenes - Durango Mexico - filming The Unforgiven (Matilda Zachary))Late in 1958, Huston signed a contract to direct a Western for the production company of Hecht-Hill-Lancaster, whose first big hit had been the Academy Award-winning Marty. The film would star Burt Lancaster and be based on the novel The Unforgiven by Alan LeMay. Huston and Ben Maddow, with whom he had written The Asphalt Jungle, began the adaptation. To save money, the film, set in the western United States in the late 1860s, would be shot near Durango, in Mexico, a country that Huston knew well and felt happy working in.In an interview with the Hollywood Citizen-News in 1959, Huston announced, “In The Unforgiven . . . the gross salary of any of the stars — Audrey Hepburn, Tony Curtis, Burt Lancaster— is more than the entire cost of The Maltese Falcon, which was made for less than $300,000.“ Curtis would drop out of this cast and be replaced by Audie Murphy, but the cost of the film would not drop. It would eventually hit more than $5,000,000, making the project the most expensive Huston had done to that point in his career. There were a number of reasons for the expense. One involved a long delay that occurred when Audrey Hepburn was injured falling from a horse — a recurrent danger in Huston films because of the director’s insistence upon using horses — and had to be hospitalized with a bad back. Another major expense was the house that had to be constructed. There are only two apparently simple houses in the film, one in which the Zachary family (Lancaster, Hepburn, Murphy, Lillian Gish, and Doug McClure) live and the other in which the Rawlins family (Charles Bickford, Albert Salmi, June Walker, Kipp Hamilton, and Arnold Merritt) live. The Zachary house, however, proved to be one of the most expensive sets Huston ever had made. Built against a fake mountain that itself had to be constructed, the house was made in specially fitted sections so it could be taken apart easily for shots at various positions. It was a marvel of engineering, supervised by art director Stephen Grimes. “The house,” said Huston, “was almost as ingenious as the whales built for Moby Dick. It served as a studio as well as our main set because we did our film cutting right there, in the back of the house under the artificial hill.” After each day of shooting, the color film would be flown to England for processing and then flown back to be viewed by Huston. In the finished film, which runs over two and a half hours in its uncut form, the Zachary family, led by the eldest brother, Ben (Lan- caster), is in partnership with the Rawlins family in cattle ranching. The Zachary father had been killed in a Kiowa attack and the Zacharys — particularly Cash (Murphy) — bear a deep hatred for the Indians. A mysterious figure, Kelsey (Joseph Wiseman), dressed in a Union uniform arrives one day and tells the Indians and then the Rawlins family that Rachel Zachary (Hepburn) is really a full-blooded Kiowa. The Zacharys admit that she is a foundling but deny she is Indian. When the oldest Rawlins boy, Charlie (Albert Salmi), is killed by the Kiowa after he courts Rachel, Kelsey is brought in to be hanged for helping the Indians. He again insists that Rachel is an Indian and that he had been with the dead Zachary father when the child was found. The Zacharys deny this and refuse to allow Rachel to be examined. Zeb Rawlins (Bickford) renounces his partnership and sends the Zachary family off alone to fight the Kiowas, who have vowed to take Rachel. The Zacharys find an Indian message indicat- ing Kelsey’s story is true. Mattilda (Gish) admits the truth, and Cash denounces Rachel and leaves. The Zacharys then fight the Indians through the night. Mattilda is killed and Andy (McClure) wounded. Cash returns to help at the last minute, and Rachel kills her own brother, the Indian who has led the war party to get her. Ben announces his plan to marry Rachel and the film ends. The similarity to Huston’s other films can be seen in the search for a truth hidden in the past, a truth that reveals someone has been posing as something he or she is not. This recurrent Huston theme was to be developed even more explicitly in Freud and The List of Adrian Messenger. Again, a small group must stand alone against great odds and risk their lives for a goal or principle, for the first time in a Huston film a principle that involves a group of people held together by racial prejudice. The film is filled with Biblical dialogue and Old Testament refer- ences. “The Lord sayeth, be fruitful and multiply,” says the patriar- chal Zeb. This verselike Biblical prose was to be used even more in Huston’s only other Western, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. There is a strange undercurrent of mysticism in the film. Cash, for example, has special powers and is able to sense the presence of Indians. During the siege of the family house, when he is ten miles away, he tells the Rawlins’ daughter (Walker) exactly what is hap- pening. Kelsey appears as a prophet out of the mist to forecast doom just as Elijah (Royal Dano) in Moby Dick did before the voyage, but still the characters move forward, committed to their path. While the film does adhere to conventions of the Western in many ways, it also introduces some rather bizarre touches. The ghostly presentation of Kelsey throughout the film is one example, but the use of the piano may be even more striking. Ben brings a piano back home from Wichita so that Mattilda can play Mozart. When the Indians play their war flutes — not drums — in the night during the seige, Ben moves the piano outdoors and his mother counters with light classics. The image is surreal and followed by an equally strange sequence in which six Indians are killed in a frenzied attack on the piano. Unfortunately, while reviews were mostly good, The Unforgiven was not popular with audiences. At this point, Huston had made three films away from his home in Ireland and had thoughts about heading back there to work on his Freud project, but he was to be delayed for almost two more years by a film that took him back to the United States.

Do the Hunks of Walker: Independence: Calian, Hoyt Rawlins, and Sheriff Tom Davidson, give off any Daddycest Vibes? ;) Calian makes me think of an Alternate Version of a Saying Charlie Bradbury said once: "If the Tipi is rockin', don't come a-knockin'." I think Calian and his Son Y/N just LOVE to Rock! ;) Hoyt, No Matter the Time, is a Walking Wet Dream! But, that Dirty Shirt showing off his Hairy Pecs and Dad Arms, those Sexy Suspenders, ALL those Bullets, and that Gun! OOOOOooooof! ;)
Y/N just wants to Bury his Face in his Furry Dad Pecs, Breath in his Musk and Sweat, Lick up whatever Booze he let slip from his Bottle, Hump his Pistol on his Thigh like the Horny Manwhore he is for Daddy Hoyt! and Sheriff Tom Davidson... Ooooof! I think we both know why he killed Abby's Husband, the REAL reason he wanted to be Sheriff, don't we? No Guessing now! Just be Curious! ;) A bit of Playful Bossiness!
Oh the hunks of Walker: Independence......
There’s a special place in my heart for Hoyt Rawlins, if I’m honest, but the rest are just as handsome.
Idk why but in my head there’s this wild idea where Hoyt Rawlins loved his boy a little too much but, in th 21st century people are a little too hyperaware of how men should act with their sons. Then he dies and wakes up in 1873, along with his son (don’t ask me how). And it’s great. Sure, there’s no showers or decent electricity but there’s a lot more...freedom with one’s family life ;)
[just ignore me i’m insane]

How do the boys react to reader getting home late and not answering their calls because she lost her phone!?
Billy Russo: The fear and anxiety he feels translate directly to anger. He’s pacing the room when you come home, and your confused, innocent expression just pisses him off more. He starts an argument immediately, accusing you of being careless and forgetful. He was worried about you, but instead of saying that, he just argues with you... until you huff and say you’re going to spend the night at your friend’s house since he’s being an ass, and then he switches tactics. He races over to you and crushes you to his chest in a hug. “You’re so frustrating,” he sighs into your hair, “Just... Let’s go to bed, and tomorrow we’ll go get you a new phone...and an Apple watch...and maybe a pager too, just to be safe.” *cue make up sex*
Logan Delos: His mind immediately goes tot he worst. He’s spiraling out, eyes wide and chest pounding, thinking of all of the horrible things that could happen to you, wondering if you were ignoring his calls because you found someone else, someone better... So when you walk through the door, sighing and complaining about your shitty day, he’d run up to you, cup your face in his hands, and kiss you, taking your breath away. “Where have you been? I’ve been calling you,” he’d ask, hating how insecure and panicked he sounded. But when you explained, sitting on his lap on the couch, he’d calm down. The next thing you knew, Logan was pulling out his laptop and ordering you all kinds of new gadgets that you hadn’t even heard of.
Jax Teller: Jax puts the prospects on the case, sending them out with strict instructions not to set foot in the clubhouse again until they found you. They found you in town, shopping, and they called Jax and told him that you’d lost your phone. Less than 15 minutes later, Jax was pulling up beside you on the street on his bike. Grinning, he held out his helmet to you. “Hop on, darlin’,” he says, “We’re getting you a new phone.” Jax takes you to a local electronics shop and buys you a new phone. He also gets you a burner phone because he assumes you’ll have to use it at some point in the future lol.
Coco Cruz: He was already feeling anxious when you didn’t answer his calls or respond to his texts, but as the day went on and he didn’t hear from you, his anxiety was getting worse and worse. He’d snapped at Chucky, been mouthy with Bish, and almost got into a fist fight with one of Miguel’s guys, and so Bishop had told Angel to take Coco for some air before he (Bishop) shot him (Coco) in the foot. So Angel, Coco, Gilly, and EZ went for a ride--partly to calm Coco, and partly to look for you. When they didn’t find you, Coco went back to the clubhouse and broke a few tables and chairs. He’s still keyed up when you walk through the door, and he yells at you. Thankfully, you stay calm and your gentle explanation calms him too. Coco hugs you to him for about 10 minutes then, before pulling back and growling “we’re getting you a new fucking phone right now, querida”
Angel Reyes: Angel knows you, and he knows this isn’t like you, so he’s immediately on guard. Living the kind of life he lives, he’s instantly afraid that something bad has happened to you. You always respond to his calls, and it’s getting late now... EZ, Coco, Gilly, and Felipe go out to find you, and Angel--on his father’s suggestions--stays home to wait for you. It’s hard for him, and when he hears your car pulling up out front, he’s outside and opening your door for you before you even turn your car off. The first thing he does is ask if you’re okay and checks to see if you’re hurt--which you’re not. Once that’s established, he’s glaring down at you, angrily telling you how worried he was and how much he loves you. Then he’s taking you to bed, and it isn’t until you’re both lying on your backs, grinning up at the ceiling that he realizes...he never told the guys that he found you.
Miguel Galindo: Miguel doesn’t even give you the chance to come home late. He has his men out and about looking for you, Dita at home in case you come back, and he and Nestor are out in the streets, too. He’s worried as hell--in his line of work, there are so many threats and so much potential danger, and you know that. He knows that you wouldn’t ignore him or field his calls, so there’s something that is preventing you from calling him back, and that terrifies Miguel. But when he finds you--safe and sound--he finally allows himself to breathe. He holds you close, whispering into your hair how concerned he had been. He doesn’t want to scare you, but his mind is still racing, thinking back on all of the horrible things that could have happened to you. And that’s the last day you go ANYWHERE without some kind of escort.
Nick Amaro: Nick is the human embodiment of anger and anxiety, and he goes into overdrive when he doesn’t hear back from you. Being a SVU detective, his mind circles back to some of the incredibly terrible crimes he’s seen on the job, and he’s nearly shaking with fear for you. This isn’t like you, and so he reaches out to the squad. Liv drives him around the city, going to some of your favorite places in search of you, while Carisi, Rawlins, and Fin canvas other areas. Cragen even reaches out to a few of his contacts, and it’s through him that Nick finds you downtown, trying to purchase a new phone. He’s out of the car and running over to you before Olivia can even finish parking, and as soon as he’s close to you, Nick pulls you to him. You try to explain what happened, even pointing out that you were in the middle of fixing it, but all Nick wants is to hold you--so you let him.
Johnny Tuturro: “You seen Y/N?” He asks everyone in the house a good 10 times. Johnny can’t sit down. He paces, he works out, he goes running (and looking for you), he bounces on Mike’s bed... He can’t stop moving. He’s trying not to come off as an overly protective, paranoid boyfriend, but it’s getting late and he hasn’t heard from you... Eventually, Charlie makes Mike and Paige play football with him on the beach while she goes out looking for you... You actually stumble upon the trio as you’re walking home. Johnny is so happy to see you, he tackles you to the sand. He’s still on top of you as you explain that your phone broke and you lost your wallet, so you had to walk home... So then he picks you up and carries you inside for a ‘Johnny Tuturro Spa Night’ where he pampers you, gives you a foot massage, and gets out a map of the city and shows you all of the places that have phone booths...for future reference.
Rio: This dramatic king... He’s sitting in the dark in the living room when you get home. After you missed his third call, Rio tracked you down and found you having dinner with some guy. So he went home, that cold, cool anger right in the center of his chest, and waited. “Jesus, Rio,” you gasped when you turned on the light, “what the hell are you doing?” “Yeah, you know, I was gonna ask you the same thing... Had a good meal? You enjoy yourself?” He asks back, his hands clasped in his lap as he glares over at you. You quickly explain to him that it was a business dinner, and he’s almost ready to believe you, but... “Why didn’t you answer my calls? Your job more important than me, mama?” At that, you walk over to him and dump the contents of your purse on your lap. It doesn’t take him long to see that... “Where’s your phone?” Once he gets all the details and learns that, yes, is was a business meeting, and you lost your phone, that knot in his chest loosens. He stands up and holds you, apologizing for thinking the worst, and promises to get you a new phone before lovingly taking you to bed. When you wake up in his arms, you see a box on your nightstand with a red bow on it, and you know that he’s already replaced your phone.

Thanks for reading! Please let me know what you think! Also, who’s gonna write an elaboration on Rio for me?...
