Hellfire Gala Quicksilver

I commissioned the wonderful @ecairnsart to create this gorgeous Hellfire Gala art for the lovely @esteicy-blog 💙 Pietro deserves to have beautiful fashion!

Artist Comments: Pietro's outfit is influenced by Balkans & Roma Folk clothing to reflect his background. The embroidered jacket has a lightning bolt inspired motif to reference his classic costume. The Boots are a hybrid of traditional/fantasy boots and futuristic/modern running shoes. One other detail is that Pietro does not wear any metal parts in his outfit (buttons, chains, etc.); he's always had a rocky relationship with his dad so I think the idea of him wearing an outfit that doesn't include anything affected by Magneto's powers is a subtle but interesting detail.

Random Quicksilver thought...

It's canon that Pietro was ostracized by the community he and Wanda grew up in. It's also canon that he learned traditional dances and to play at least a mandolin, if not also other instruments, during childhood/adolescence. And it didn't matter that he was the best dancer, or a good musician, or the fastest thing around, because he was still shunned no matter what he did or did not do.

I think there's always this sad little boy voice in the back of his mind going, "If we're perfect and we anticipate everyone's needs/wants and we're perfect, maybe--please, please, please--maybe someone will love us this time? But only if we're perfect."

And yet the voice of experience is also there and going, "Nothing we do is ever good enough for anyone. We can literally save the entire fucking planet and everyone everywhere will still hate us every single time."

Pietro tries so hard at everything he does and goes into people-pleaser mode, because that sad little boy voice insists this time someone will love him if he's perfect. But experience has taught him that never works, that he can exceed everyone's expectations and they'll still treat him how they've always treated him. So he tries--he tries so hard!--but he also bitches about it constantly. And why not? No one's going to appreciate anything he does, anyway. Might as well complain about it. No one's even listening, right?

Does Pietro Maximoff in the comics have a job? If he does, what is it? If he doesn't, what do you think his job could and should be?

The one actual job I think Pietro had was when he was a teacher in Avengers Academy. His teaching methods were... interesting.

He did really care about his students though, and he formed a friendship with Finesse!

Pietro has been mostly on teams since he was a teenager, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Avengers, X-Factor, or working with the Inhumans, or working for mutant rights, and he was a Knight of Wundagore too but it's not like a normal type of job so I think Teacher is the closest to a normal job he's ever had, though he did try to get a job at the circus back in his Kooky Quartet days, Avengers (1963) #22

I do think Pietro works best when he is on the X-Factor team, because it's really the only team book where I feel you get the best out of his character rather than having him as a background character in Avengers.

Honestly for a job Pietro should have; teaching Mutant or Superpowered Kids is what I would want him to do again, he's pretty good at it and I think he would get bored at any other normal type of job.

And today's sad Maximoffs headcanon is...

Pietro and Wanda don't have really big, really loud, explosive arguments after House of M--unless she's possessed and/or he's mind-controlled--because of House of M.

Pietro is afraid that if he upsets her too badly, Wanda will abandon him again. Because that's what she did at the end of House of M. She abandoned him, powerless and surrounded by enemies, in NYC. He worries Wanda will do it again. He tried to kill himself last time. He'll probably succeed the next time. So he tries not to lose his temper with her, tries not to upset her, tries not to lose her again.

Wanda thinks she was doing him a favor. If he was depowered, if he wasn't a threat, surely the Avengers would just leave Pietro alone. If she'd taken him with her, the Avengers and X-Men would have tried harder to track them down, to kill them both. She thinks she saved his life by leaving him behind. She doesn't understand why he's so angry--it was for his own good. After all, Pietro was just fine when she "died" fighting Onslaught. (He was the very definition of "not fine.")

Wanda doesn't know about Pietro's suicide attempt. If she ever finds out, someone really is going to die. It won't be one of the twins.
