“More coffee?”
The waitress Shelly, at Double R Diner asks you with a smile. You look up from the mess of paperworks and at the blonde woman.
“It’s needed.” You reply with a smile. She fills the cup with more coffe. “Thank you!”
“What are you doing?”
“My boss gave me this article to write. Economy stuff…”
“No more paranormal articles?”
You shrug.
“Oh I wish… But apparently that was too much ‘bullshit’ for the newspapers.”
“He said that? I’m sorry to hear that. Norma and I liked your articles.”
“Thank you.” At least you feel a bit appreciated now. She meets your smile. “But it is what it is, I guess…” You sigh and are about to go back to the mess on the table, but get distracted when the door opens when a man in his 30’s enters. He is dressed in a suit, with a beige trench coat layered over.
When Shelly greets him as “Detective Cooper”, your curiosity rises.
“You haven’t met him before? He’s been here for a couple of weeks!” Shelly says to you when noticing the way you look at Cooper. “He’s a bit… Weird, but nice. He’s here almost everyday, for coffee and pie.”
She giggles and looks his way. You can’t help but look too. He has dark-brown slicked back hair, which matches his dark eyes. The waitress notices how you stare at the special agent, and smirks.
“Ah… You got a good eye for him already? You should say hi.”
With that, she leaves you to greet Cooper, leaving you too stunned to speak. Did she just…? Your face is burning as you look away, before it’s too obvious you’re staring at the mysterious man. You once again read through the papers and take notes, whilst fidgeting with your pen.
“May I?” When you look up, you meet a pair of warm brown eyes. “Or am I interrupting work?”
“Not at all!” You quickly fix the mess on the table, and toss it aside so the man can sit across from you. He takes a seat, placing his coffee cup and a pie on the table. He takes off the coat and fixes the black blazer underneath. You try not to stare, but it’s difficult to look away. He’s handsome, there's no denying that.
“I’m Special Agent Dale Cooper. May I ask for your name?”
He speaks so formally, and his voice is soft as he asks you for your name. As you tell him your name and offer a handshake, he smiles and takes your hand in his own big warm hand.
“How long have you been in town?” You ask whilst sipping the warm coffee.
“It’s been two weeks!”
“I see… Is it the Laura Palmer case?” You feel slightly ashamed at how curious and nosy you sound. With a chuckle you’re quick to add: “Sorry, I don’t wanna sound like a nosy journalist.”
“Aren’t you a journalist?” Cooper smirks and nods at the papers next to you.
You chuckle and meet his eyes again, and can’t help but feel warm from the way he looks at you.
“Yea… But not one of those journalists!”
“It’s ok.. I can’t say too much, but indeed I’m working on the Laura Palmer case.”
“It’s horrible that such things happen in Twin Peaks.”
Cooper nods in agreement and looks at you with compassion, and his eyes have that shine that you already like, despite only having known him for a couple of minutes.
“Yea… Especially such a young woman.”
You nod, and there's a heavy silence between the two of you before Cooper looks at the bunch of papers next to you.
“So… Journalist, huh? What are you writing about?”
“Local news mostly! But there's not much going on in town. So I’m writing about politics, economy… Yea.”
You sigh, showing your dislike a bit too much. The brown haired man looks sad for you.
“And what do you like writing about?”
“Well…” His question startles you a bit. But then you remember Shellys words: He’s a bit… Weird. Those exact same things, people tend to think about you. “I like writing about historical events in town. And… Well, paranormal cases.”
He gets a big smile on his face.
“That’s so interesting! I would love to read those articles.”
It warms your heart. Never before has someone been this interested in your work.
The two of you get really well along. It feels like you’ve been sitting there for ages, talking shit, when you realize what time it is.
“I should go back to work”
Dale looks a bit disappointed, and so do you. You’d love to continue this discussion.
“I’d love to see that National Forest you mentioned.”
“I’d love to take you there… Tell me, are you free this weekend?” You realize how flirty that sounded. The last thing you want is to make someone you like uncomfortable. Luckily, he doesn’t look weirded out at all.
“I’d like that very much.”
“Well then… I’ll pick you up outside The Great Northern on Saturday at 2?” He nods, and you grab the paperwork, and gives him a quick smile. “Well then, see you later, Dale.”
As you leave, Dale’s eyes follow you, and he can’t help but admire your beauty, intelligence and way of talking. You’re also one of few to call him by his first name and he likes that. He finishes the coffee and pie, already dreaming about meeting you again.
Silly enough, you feel nervous as you pull up with your car at the parking lot outside the hotel where Dale is staying.
There's still 5 minutes left, but you didn’t wanna run late, since you never asked for his number.
Is this a date? A sightseeing? Two friends meeting up?
Deep in thought, you barely notice when Dale knocks at the car window. You open the door and let the special agent in. He’s wearing a button up shirt and black pants as usual, layered with the coat.
“Do you have any other clothes?”
You tease. He chuckles.
“Maybe I wanna look good?”
“You do.”
As you drive towards the destination, you look at him with a smirk. Maybe it is a date?
You begin the Twin Peaks sightseeing at the National Forest, and you enthusiastically tell Dale about the history of the place, and its mysteries. He looks intrigued and asks questions, clearly interested - and not only to sound polite.
“And then, we have the Owl Cave.”
“Interesting! I need to see that.”
“You seriously wanna go in there?”
“Why not? He takes the opportunity to tease you. “Scared?”
“Well, yea! It’s a weird place!”
“Then I TOTALLY need to see it!”
His enthusiasm is contagious and you can’t do anything other than agree. Maybe you need an adventure.
Once exploring the cave, it is hard to leave. Dale asks millions of questions, walking around with the biggest smile as he tries to unravel the mysteries. It’s been one hour.
Lucky thing he’s cute, otherwise you’d be annoyed by now.
The sightseeing continues and you grow more comfortable in Dale’s company. Just like that time at the café, time seems to run away when you are with him. As the sun starts to go down, you realize how long you’ve been out for.
“You know, I know it’s getting late, but I don’t want to go home just yet.” he says, looking at you with a warm smile.
“Same. It’s so beautiful here.”
There’s a comfortable silence between the two of you, as you walk away from the cave, and find a place to sit. Looking out over the town of Twin Peaks, you feel a connection to the man next to you. You hope he feels the same. The evening sun shines on his face, making him even more handsome than he already was. There’s a spark between you two, a spark that can’t be ignored.
Sneakily, you take your hands out of your pocket, letting them fall to your sides. You move your hand dangerously close to Dale's hand, which radiates warmth. He feels your cold fingers slightly brush against his knuckles and it sends a shiver down his spine. If he had the courage, he would kiss you right here and now. But instead, he lets your fingers be intertwined. His warm hand makes you stop freezing momentarily, and together you look up at the sky.
You still remember how good it felt to hold his hand later that night, when trying to sleep. It was a perfect date. Because it was a date, right? The day was amazing, but you’re still wondering if it’s a bad sign you and Dale didn’t kiss.
It’s like he senses your worries. You almost throw yourself over the phone, quickly answering as Dale calls.
“I had a good time today. It was nice going sightseeing with you.”
“I had a good time, too.”
After a moment of silence, Dale’s soft voice melts your heart with only one sentence.
“I should’ve kissed you.”
“You have more opportunities.”
“So… How about I take you out tomorrow… Is that too fast?”
You smile and shake your head, although he can’t see it.
“Not at all.”
“Sweet! So… Double R Diner tomorrow? My treat.”
“Yes please.”
“Good. I’ll see you tomorrow then.”“Goodnight, Dale.”
“Goodnight. I’ll dream of you. I bet your lips are sweeter than any pie in the world.”
With those words, he hangs up, leaving you standing by the phone with a blushing face.
Now you look forward to tomorrow.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'M SO IN LOVE W THIS MAN

I've Just Seen a Face...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been over a year since Agent Chet Desmond disappeared, and Sam Stanley seems to be the only one still looking for him.
Can a certain case lead him closer to finding his elusive partner?
Okay, here it is: my first fic. Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, set roughly a year after the Teresa Banks investigation. I put a lot of love into this one, and I hope it carries through! And for added incentive, I put links to two of my Twin Peaks playlists among the notes, so there you go.
Let's rock!

Damn Good Coffee and Company
Dale Cooper x Gender Neutral Reader
Summary: You share your morning coffee with a certain federal agent.
TW: none :)
WC: 900
Twin Peaks had always felt off. You'd never deny that accusation should anyone ever make it. The entire town felt like a liminal space to the rest of the country.
Even time itself felt strained and different, like each second moved slower than the last.
But you'd gotten used to it since your father had moved the family up to the Pacific Northwest and gotten a decent paying job at the Packard Sawmill. The very place you now worked to make ends meet, though there were rumors that the place was on its last legs and about to shut its doors for good.
It wouldn't be shocking; all hell seemed to break loose after the homecoming queen's body washed up on the shore.
You tried not to think about it or the feds that would no doubt flood the town since there'd been rumors milling around about cocaine and the brothel that did business at the border.
Christ Almighty.
That was the only though you could muster before cutting the engine outside the R & R Diner. Work boots crunched against gravel as you hopped from the old pick up, crackling with you every step until the door chime announced your arrival.
No one paid much mind other than Norma.
"Morning, Y/N," she beamed tiredly, "Usual?"
"Am I getting that predictable?" a comfortable laugh was shared as the order was jotted down and cash was shelled out.
"Predictable isn't always bad. Especially around here." Norma was filled with sage, maternal wisdom. Something Y/N appreciated greatly. "Have a seat. I'll have Shelly bring you some fresh coffee when it's done brewing.
Grinning shyly, you spun on one heel to see a sea of familiar faces. Yet one stuck out like a sore thumb amidst all the blue collar workers. Agent Cooper, the federal agent from DC, sat alone sipping at a dwindling cup of coffee. Normally he had case files spread across the table with a put upon Sheriff Truman sitting in the other booth.
Today was different.
Cooper stared into the middle distance, whispering to himself about owls. It wouldn't be the first time an outsider lost their marbles within town limits. Sighing, you padded over and decided to play the part of friendly townie.
"Mind some company, Agent Cooper?" you asked shyly, breaking the man of his reverie. Concentration broken revealed a friendly smile and slight crinkling of dark eyes.
"Not at all, Y/N. Have a seat." he offered cordially yet completely accommodating. He was different than how you pictured most FBI agents, always upbeat and excitable. Almost like a puppy dog. "Sheriff Truman isn't here today."
"Harry must be pretty busy if he decided to skip breakfast at R & R." you both share a chuckle as Shelly confidently strides over with a fresh mug and steaming pot of coffee. The mug is slid in front of you while Cooper obediently holds his mug out. After a moment, the waitress is gone and you're left alone.
Conversation is sparse yet enjoyable. There's something about this outsider that's different from the rest. You strive to impress him as much as learn more about him. Dale, he asks you to call him, is as intelligent as he is charming.
Not to mention odd. Maybe that's why he fits so well into such a fascinating town.
"Must be way different out here than in Washington." you offer awkwardly as the conversation hits a lull.
"On the contrary." he offers cheerily, "I think every place is similar in its own way. Filled with as many interesting people as there are shocking secrets."
"You think Twin Peaks has a lot of secrets?" that would news to you: everyone was pretty forthright to a fault around these parts.
"Absolutely. It's a puzzle." he stops after that, smiling vacantly. Something is amiss but that's common in Twin Peaks.
"That's an odd way to look at homicide." you add tersely, taking a sip of coffee. He grimaces, pondering a potential misstep.
"Forgive me. I suppose you do this kind of work for so long you get used to it. Were you close with the deceased?"
"Laura? No. I'm practically a decade older than her," you guffaw darkly, thinking of that homecoming picture that was plastered all over town. "But I can't help but think that she and I would have been enemies."
"What makes you say that?" he cocks his head doggishly, gelled hair shining in the sunlight pouring through the window.
"Look at me," you motion at the ball cap, flannel shirt, and mud-stained boots, "Lumberjacks and popular girls don't exactly mix."
"I like your ensemble," he adds wholesomely, "It has character. And it takes character to be different."
Then he smiles warmly before reaching out to pat your hand. Heat rushes to your cheeks, something you hope he doesn't notice. But before anything can be mentioned, he looks at a digital wristwatch as doe eyes grow wide.
"I'm late for a meeting." he scoots out of the booth before setting a few crisp bills on the table. "But I've enjoyed our conversation. See you tomorrow morning?"
"S-sure." you stutter, not quite believing his words.
"Then it's a date."

25 - Teen Daddy in Jail
Tumblr media
(Picture belongs to respectful owner)
Part 26
Texas Romance
Tags - @supernaturalgirl30 @bvbwestfall
Leaning against the wall I rummaged around in my bag finding some cash having a feeling about this. "Okay dear...just don't tell them we got arrested. At least try.." Hanging up the phone I cursed under my breath going to wake up my daughter. "Son of a bitch, Georgie!"
Climbing in the passenger seat Mary was watching my daughter since it was an eight hour drive to the jail. Slamming the truck door George and I picked up Dale since the money I had wasn't going to be enough. Resting my chin in the palm of my hand George glanced my direction as we drove there. "I'm sorry you're having to deal with this honey. I thought I raised him to be better than this."
Lifting my head up I immediately interpret him. "Mr. Cooper you did raise him right I was the one in the wrong. I - I should have waited till we were married. If anything I failed my parents. I told them - I told them I would wait but I didn't and now my baby daddy is in jail and I am staying at his grandma's house because we had a fight. Gosh what am I gonna do..." Laying my face in my hands I felt some tears slipping out until someone touched my shoulder.
"You didn't fail anymore kid." Peaking one eye through my fingers I saw the hand was from Georgie's father but Dale was the one speaking up for me. "For months I have seen you and Georgie bursting your asses off to provide for that kid. You didn't fail your parents or your kid. You'll get through this."
Wiping away the tears with my sleeve I lightly smiled to the pair. I looked up to the both of them in their own way and here they are helping me through the hard times. "Dale's right Y/n. One thing is for sure Georgie loves you and even though he got arrested. I - I hope that he had good intentions to help you." After a few more hours we reached the jail Dale and George dealt with the money while I stood outside the cell door arms crossed over my chest watching Georgie and Connie sleeping on the benches. Bending my head down I felt guilty for this still like I had some cause in it all. The officer unlocked the cell door with Dale pulling out a camera taking their picture.
"This is gonna be my Christmas card." He chuckled when she woke up cursing up at him. "What the hell...what are you doing here?"
He smiled glancing our direction while Georgie still layed asleep. "I'm saving ya."
"You think I got that kind of cash laying around." George shrugged his shoulders nudging me in the arm to wake his son up.
Dropping down on a knee i grabbed his shoulder shaking him in an attempt to wake up. He grumbled something I couldn't understand that was probably about tator tots or brisket. "Georgie it's me. I'm here to bail you out. Wake up." Glancing over my shoulder slightly his dad suddenly shouted making him actually wake up this time.
"Ugh I'm up - Y/n where's Aurora?" He asked slowly sitting up before I grabbed his hands pulling him up off the bench as best as I could since he was still half asleep at this point.
Squeezing his shoulder Connie and I glanced to each other before I tossed Georgie the keys to the truck. "She's fine. You're mom's watching her. Let's go you're driving."
"I'm really sorry about this dad...Y/n you too." He mumbled looking down at his shoes before we headed back to the car. Dale and Connie decided to drive her car back leaving the three of us to ride back together. Laying down in the backseat of the truck I closed my eyes just listening in on the conversation between the boys for a second.
"Were you scared when mom got pregnant with me?" Georgie asked to which his dad replied sitting in the front passenger seat. "I was terrified...why you scared?"
"Yep..." Georgie sighed heavily. "I don't know what I'm doin'. I don't know what's expected of me. Ar least you and mom got married and were a team." He glanced over his shoulder at me where I peak one eye open where he wouldn't notice. His brown eyes held regret and fear at the same time. "I got married and then Y/n thought I was getting back together with my ex-"
His father cut him short asking with concerns. "Were you?"
"No way. I love Y/n more than I ever thought I would anyone." Georgie immediately replied back making my heart flutter a little. "I've tried explaining it to her multiple times. Veronica and I are just friends and she was only in town for graduation parties and to catch up with friends. And when she found out we were pregnant she said that if I didn't treat her right she'd kick my ass..."
Secretly I reached inside jacket pocket I was using as a pillow finding the ring still inside. I had given it back to Connie and she must have given it back to him to make things right. Slipping it on my finger I smiled holding it against my chest falling asleep to hear his father talking again. "You are in a worse situation then I was that's for sure. But I know you two love each other a lot with or without a baby. So you have to find a way to make it up to her. She's the one for you I can see it."
"I hope I am as good a dad as you are." Georgie replied with a weak smile seeing me laying asleep with the ring back on my finger which was a step in the right direction he hoped.

“All stories were originally published in fanzines from 1991 thru 1993. The first six stories listed below are a serial. The first story was written before the second season of Twin Peaks, so the series became alternate universe. These were written in the pre-internet age, and are available only as pdfs from the original fanzine pages.”
I was pretty excited to see these pre-net zine fics still hosted, and it lead to some interesting reading on 90s fan zines.  https://fanlore.org/wiki/Playfellows https://fanlore.org/wiki/The_Rodilla_Project

“Hmm? Dale, it’s like 12am… What’s up?” You mumble, rubbing sleep out of your eyes as you stand by the open door next to your boyfriend Dale, who’s still dressed in a suit. His brown hair is slicked back, and he looks energetic and like he just finished work. Oh fuck sake…
“Don’t tell me you’ve worked until now!”
“Well…”
He smiles sheepishly and shrugs, stepping into your house before the cold air enters the house. Even though he looks energetic as always, his brown eyes look tired. He even has dark circles under them. You sigh and start feeling worried for him. He looks at you up and down, and with a hint of a smirk, he says: “Nice pajamas, cutie.”
You look down at yourself, realizing that you’re only dressed in the night wear you recently put on.
“I was just about to go to sleep, jerk!” He laughs and pulls you into a hug. “You should try that.” You mumble.
“Yea… But I always end up having crazy dreams.”
“Weirdo.”
“You love it.” You pull away from him and smile. “I’m sorry for just showing up out of the blue.”
You shrug. You did plan for him to come over tonight, but not at midnight. You can’t really be mad, you’ve missed him. So instead you take his warm hand, leading him to the couch. The tv is still on, after you fell asleep watching a show. Dale sinks into the couch with a happy sigh. He looks very exhausted now. You shut off the tv, making the room dark except the dimmed light from the wall lamp.
“Seriously… Why the hell did you work until now?”
“This case I’m working on… It’s…” He sighs and shakes his head clearly frustrated with work. He hasn’t told you the details for this particular case, just that it’s a tricky one, and very misleading. “...It’s difficult. I feel like I’m getting nowhere…”
You listen to his rant, but slowly get distracted by his suit. It’s no secret he looks good in his black blazer, that hugs his muscles in the right places, as does his black pants. Your fingertips dance over his shirt, up and down, down and up…
“I uhm…” Dale clears his throat and calls your name. “What are you…”
“Take off your blazer.”
His eyes widen, and you feel smug when your boyfriend's cheeks glow red. He doesn’t even question it, but simply sits up and tosses the blazer away. He turns to you with a coy smile.
“Happy?”
You reply by kissing him while your hand moves further up, finding the knot to his black tie. He doesn’t even try to control the kiss and simply lets your tongue invade his mouth. His breathing gets heavier as you pull the tie off, letting it join his blazer. You move your hand down his stomach again, unbuttoning the white shirt in the process. He squirms a bit, and you can’t tell if he’s nervous or excited. You work on the last button, pulling away from the kiss and teasingly bites his bottom lip. Dale whispers your name and his body feels warm from anticipation. As your hand moves to his belt, you figure out why he squirmed so much earlier. You let out a low chuckle and lay your palm over the bulge in his black pants, that suddenly seems too tight for him. He moans softly and looks at you, shaking his head.
“You’re killing me.”
His voice is raspy and low.
“Tell me what you want, Dale.”
“You know what I want….” He murmurs, needingly lifting his hips so your hand once again touches his boner. But you wont give in, not yet.
“I want you to say it.”
“Fuck… Please… I’m…”
“You’re…?”
“I-I…”
He suddenly seems shy, and you almost feel mean for smiling at his red face and the stutter. Dale is not directly prude, but when it comes to talking dirty or telling you what he wants in bed, he seems to lose the ability to speak.
“Talk to me, pretty boy.”
“I… I want you to touch me...” You smile at him proudly, but not yet satisfied. “Please… I need your touch. I need it…” His voice breaks slightly and he groans. His pleading really works, because now your own arousal grows.
He’s so desperate and needy, just the way you like him.
You quickly unbuckle his belt and work the zipper. With trembling hands, Dale helps you pull the pants down. He is sitting down, looking so vulnerable wearing only his gray boxers. The wet fabric reveals he’s already leaking for you. You take the opportunity, and raise a brow.
“I haven’t even started touching you yet, and you’re already about to cum?”
Gulping nervously, the special agent looks up at you with puppy eyes.
“No… It’s uhm…”
Before he can finish the sentence, you kneel before him. You spread his legs apart and push him back into the cushions of your couch. You free his cock from the boxers, which joins the pile of clothes. His cock stands proud and is leaking pre-cum.
Dale lets out - what you suppose is a nervous chuckle.
Without wasting another second, you move your hand over his length, using spit as lubrication to slide your hand up and down with ease. You start with slow, teasing strokes that cause your boyfriend to gasp. Your focus is not longer on his face, all you can think of are the sweet moans and pleads he lets out. It only encourages you to continue, and soon you stroke him at a quick pace. He moves his hips, jerking himself off against your soft palm. You continue moving your hand, but let your boyfriend control the tempo now. You can’t help but watch his sweet face. He clenches his jaw, and you feel hypnotized staring at that sharp jawline you love. His eyes are closed and his mouth is half open, as he continues fucking himself into your hand, moving his erection in and out repeatedly. After a bit, you remove your hand. Dale sits up again, still panting heavily with pearls of sweat on his forehead.
“Please don’t stop…”
“Don’t worry, I won't.”
Because how could you stop now, when he’s so desperate and submissive?
He has earned a reward for being so patient with your teasing. When you lean down to kiss his leaking tip, he totally loses it. He lets out a whimper and grips the cushions on the couch. His whole body is trembling from pleasure as you lick his shaft, leaving kisses on his cock. He is whimpering and moaning your name while you work wonders on him with those lips. When you proceed to take him in your throat, he cries out.
“I’m gonna…”
“Not yet.” You warn with a raspy voice, pulling away from his throbbing member just to say those two words. He nods, and you wipe a couple of tears from his eyes before going down again. The sounds of Dale’s moans, and the sloppy noises from you, echoes through the living room. You both enjoy the moment, but mostly of all you enjoy watching Dale relax and being taken care of, after all that stress from work. You pull away from his cock and signal him that he can release. He calls out your name as he shoots out thick ropes of cum over himself, and your hand.
He is still panting for air seven minutes later - but does his best to hide it - after you helped him clean up and brought him to bed. His face is still slightly red and a bit embarrassed as he smiles at you.
“You really know how to take my stress away.”
“Of course, babe…”
“Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Dale. I like making you feel good.”
He cuddles up next to you, but soon the two of you end up making out again.
“Hey… What if I return the favor?”
He has a mischievous grin on his lips now and you can already picture how swollen and wet they’re gonna look once he returns the favor. You smirk at him.
“How can I say no to that?”
“You can’t…” Dale mumbles and kisses his way down. He is gentle and passionate with his kisses. “Fuck, I love you.” he murmurs before sliding his slick fingers into your underwear. You moan and look down at him as he gets between your legs, once again looking energetic.
“I love you too, Dale.”

“Am I?” Hotch asked, standing in the middle of the bullpen in his suit and tie that didn't quite fit the way he'd expected them to when he bought them. The style of the time was oversized, a little flowy, but he didn't care for the fit on his lanky, tall body. He should never have tried to be fashionable.
The city of Seattle stretched out in all directions as if cast by spell from the building itself. There was the Space Needle against an ominous gray sky, and there was the Puget Sound beyond. It wasn't blue, it wasn't gray, it wasn't green...it looked almost black. Out another side of the all window building he could see the the rest of downtown and sprawling steep hills of ivy that would lead to what he was told was the U District. Lake Washington wasn't far off in the distance another direction and that, he was well aware, would put him on a path to head East through the Cascades into the vastness of Washington State. Freeways packed with cars wove through the strange city and he stood awestruck in the center of it all. The city he understood, he'd lived in enough of them now, but the fact that it was so surrounded by wilderness that stretched further than his imagination was beyond him. He could travel from New York to Virginia in the same amount of time he could cover Seattle to the Eastern border of just this state alone. He wouldn't see another state line for hours and hours, hundreds of miles.
“Your desk is over this way.”
“Thank you.”
Everyone around him was younger. Considerably so. He'd known that was going to be the case, but it was one thing to know it and another thing to see it and be surrounded by it. He wasn't exactly old, but by the standards of those around him he was practically ancient. The people his age had moved into higher positions. Powerful positions, positions in the field, they weren't sitting here in desks getting people coffee and running errands.
And that hadn't bothered him before. When he made the decision, when his mother and Haley both told him he was being silly, that he had a good thing as a prosecutor, that with a few more years he could open his own practice if he wanted to. Have his own office. Eventually run for DA instead of just working for them, maybe. They had it all planned out, the scope and trajectory of his life planned out by the women who saw his potential and loved him dearly for what he was and more importantly, what he could be. What he represented. But he didn't give a hoot about his potential, about following in his father's footsteps, about following in the Hotchner family footsteps for that matter. His family had run the gamut from lawyer to politician to CEO. Where there was a Hotchner, there was money and power.
And greed. And violence. And he was good at it, the power part anyway. He was really damn good at it. But he didn't want it.
