It was the nocturnal sky widespread in a portion of Russia. A group of four warriors was seated at a table. The dining was situated quite far from the markets. The place was quite secluded from the markets and street shops. They got to enjoy the serenity and peace of the sea that was aside. The chefs and the Waiters were doing their tasks. The leader of the gang ordered drinks for them. While the waiter was gone, they started their talks and gossip.
The tall guy was silent. The lilac-haired couldn't shut his mouth. The others were decently engaged.
Suddenly, their eyes spotted some new faces around the dining. They weren't Russian at all; One with a bob cut, and the other had a Mohawk fringe covering his right eye. They seemed suspicious.
Yuriy kept a close eye on them. Sergei and Boris wanted to rag them, but Yuriy restrained them.
"No, this is not the right time. We aren't sure if they are local thugs. Don't take action without proper assurance. We might face the consequences."
Sergei nodded and sat. Boris unwillingly sat down and made a face. Ivan couldn't care less.
The two strangers were involved in a serious discussion. One hid behind the bushes, whereas the bob guy remained seated.
"We'll be here till they leave. Possibly, let's follow them and report to the higher officials. I have the gut feeling; Just saying." Yuriy narrowed his eyes.
Boris yawned and was left bored. He wanted to sort that out immediately.
Soon, a boat landed on the shore, having a beautiful woman around Sergei's age. She wasn't a Russian but seemed like an Indonesian. Deep wine-colored eyes were intoxicating under the moonlit night. She stepped out of the boat and went towards the strangers' table. Her white Kebaya was dazzling.
The lilac was stunned to see the seductive beauty. Sergei was a muscle head, and Yuriy was neutral yet curious about her. Ivan was nothing less than a fanboy in a crush.
The boys snapped out of their senses. They were back on guard, stealthily spying on the situation.
"Ivan, Bryan! Hide! I'll raise my hand. Then, you guys attack. Spencer and I will keep a closer eye."
The two hid behind the opposite bush. Spencer had his dagger ready. Yuriy held his fists on the table.
"Sheesh, I thought I could save her directly and become the hero! I missed it! And she is so alluring! Damn Tala, I knew you wanted this girl!" Bryan seethed.
"Cool down! We intend to save her, not to make love!" Ivan yelled.
Bryan frowned. Yet, he blushed.
Sergei and Yuriy carefully set their eyes on the strangers.
"Hi, Queen!" Gerry greeted her.
Queen blushed and sat beside him.
"Well, a little bit about yourself?" He asked her.
"Oh no! Is she dating him?" Bryan was alarmed.
"You're too late to realize this. Your brain is still in the trash." Ivan mocked him.
Boris hit his head and turned his face away.
"I've had enough of you. Please cooperate. You'll get a better girl than her.
Queen and Gerry were having drinks and laughed along.
"Ah, man, I guess we over-estimated the situation. They were just dating. The other guy went away so that they could talk privately. It seems so," Sergei said.
"Could be; because the guy doesn't seem suspicious. He looks terrific, anyhow."
Sergei kept back his dagger.
In two hours, all chefs left since it neared the closing time. The waiters were gone too. The owner and some of his men were winding up for the day. Boris lost hope of impressing Queen and went to the bar close to the dining. Ivan left home. Yuriy and Sergei were still there.
Gerry and Queen were tired after dancing.
"Well, can we go somewhere?" Gerry offered her.
"Still? It's late already."
"Why not? We are on a date."
"I understand, but umm….. Okay, well, where shall we go?"
"To my house?"
"House? Why? Isn't it too early? We met each other just today."
"Please."
Queen felt awkward, "If you don't mind, I have a few things to tell. We need not get too personal right on the first day. We'll gradually know about each other. Is that fine? There are limits."
Yuriy grew suspicious and pulled out his weapons. Sergei was about to attack Gerry.
"Will you listen to me now or not?" He seethed.
"I just can't believe you are the same guy my friend told me!"
"I had no intention of hooking up with her. She wasn't looking up to my expectations. I never revealed this side of mine; because I wanted to reach you. But you look extremely enchanting, unlike your friend," He licked his lips.
"Stop it! This is bad!"
"How dare you?!" Gerry yelled at her and pulled out his dagger. Queen fretted and inched a step back. She attempted to run away, but Gerry caught her wrist.
"Leave me! Leave me!" she wobbled her hand vigorously. Gerry showed no mercy.
"I am taking you to my home! We'll have some fun; come on!"
Queen cried so hard.
"Yuriy, we'll attack him."
"In some time, he'll put away the dagger. We can attack him then. He has another man here. It's futile to attack now."
"At least she can escape and run away if we hold them off guard," Sergei suggested.
"No, be patient. We need to calm ourselves. We can get a better solution."
Figel came out of the bushes and stood beside Gerry.
"Who is he?" Queen asked.
"We both together will have fun with you! Come!"
"Please, some help!"
"Stop crying bitch!" Figel yelled. Both of them giggled.
Soon, Queen quickly searched for something in her baggage and pulled out her pistol. They dropped their daggers and lifted their hands.
"Surprise!" Queen smirked.
Yuriy and Sergei stood frozen.
"A gun? How the hell did you have one?"
"I am a pirate, you bastard! I've been living in Russia for five years. I'm part of the group which allied with the Russian Pirates. We heard that you and your goons are trapping women like this, and that's why I've come to catch you in disguise!"
"Uh, well! We-We don't do this seriously! I mean, for fun!"
"Oh my! Fun? Deceiving them, fucking forcing them, kidnapping them, and so on? Are we dolls to you? Can we do the same things with men like you? Huh? Do you enjoy destroying the lives of women like this? And you said that my friend doesn't look up to your expectations? She is beautiful!"
She snatched his ear and pointed the gun to his collarbone, "Listen, if I took control over this from the beginning, you would've been dead meat! Understood?"
Figel tried to escape. Her gun pointed toward him, "And you. If you move an inch, I will shoot your head. Clear?"
Figel cried and knelt.
"Please don't do anything to us!"
"I won't do anything now. They'll deal with it." she pointed backward. The owner bought the soldiers from the fortress.
"Thanks for helping me, sir," Queen thanked.
In a few minutes, they winded up the place. The thugs were taken to the fortress. Yuriy and Sergei sighed as they saw her leaving.
"Yuriy, shall we acknowledge her at least? I've never seen any woman brave as her."
"Hmm, I guess we'll leave it as it is. But…." Yuriy smirked, "Not a bad idea. I'll approach her differently."
"How?"
"You join Boris in the bar; I'll deal with her."
Queen was taking a stroll, but she didn't care to notice Yuriy following her back.
"Where did all your sharpness go?"
She turned back to see the scarlet. Her eyes narrowed.
"So, were you watching me for the whole time?"
Yuriy smirked and captured her waist.
"Are you like them?" She asked as she pointed her gun toward his forehead.
"Nope, not at all. We were trying to save you. But, you….. Not only you saved yourself. But arrested them." He took his pistol out and pierced it on her hip.
"Wait, what the heck-"
"You still can't get it? I am going to arrest you in my arms. I won't let you go away."
Queen's eyes widened.
"Wait, you're the leader of-" Queen asked for confirmation. She placed her pistol back into her bag.
"Guess…. because there is one group where the members are not pirates. But they have pistols. They protect the town in the shadows," he chuckled.
"The….. Demolition boys." Her eyes turned. He felt her stiff body loosen.
"I appreciate your bravery, dear Pirate. Come with me on a date. The bar is still open."
Queen was drawn deep into his blue eyes. She snapped out and agreed.
"Let's go," she held his hand and strolled with him.

are you good at character analysis? I wanna know what your analysis would be for Gaz, I’m trying to figure out his story since he’s my favorite out of TF 141
KYLE GAZ GARRICK
BASIC OVERVIEW — BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Kyle “Gaz” Garrick is a British Black man who enlisted into the British Army around 2008 or 2014 (unfortunately, the developers have inconsistencies). His operator biography states 2008 while the official activision website in a blog post about MW2019 states 2014, however it does make sense for him to enlist in 2008. He would have been at least sixteen years old which is the minimum age requirement to enlist. I would like to quickly throw in that Gaz is indeed older than Soap, as this is a misconception that I surprisingly see a lot! Gaz’s blood type is B- and he currently ranks as sergeant (which according to the official British Army website, it typically takes at least twelve years in the service, however it implies it also depends on the person’s abilities).
Gaz spent four years in the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment. During these four years going through a multitude of tests and challenges before passing selection for Special Air Service (SAS). The activision blog says during MW2019, it’s his sixth year serving as a sergeant. However, as Gaz had been selected for TF141, I believe their ranks have paused in time. Gaz has mostly spent his time in anti-terrorism in his military career. He’s an expert in demolitions, VIP escorting, weapons tactics, covert surveillance, and target elimination. He’s been awarded multiple medals, and earned his Parachute Wings whilst spending time at Camp Lejeune in the U.S. whilst collaborating with Navy SEALs. Kyle is a master of evasion and deception, being the only candidate in his entire class to escape capture from the facility and evade detection during resistance training.
When Gaz first meets Cpt. Price, Gaz is currently assigned to an SAS specific counter-terrorism program in the UK who collaborate with the police, which is another misconception that Gaz was a police sergeant at one point (he was not! I believe some people think this because at E3, Gaz was wearing a police baseball cap).
CHARACTER OVERVIEW
Like true to the original Gaz, he is Price’s protege, being his student. Gaz is overall a serious and hardworking man, loyal and unbreaking. He knows when to joke and he knows when to reload. However, Gaz is not perfect and he does lose his cool (we see subtle development with this later down the road). While being loyal, Gaz does not hesitate to question Price’s choices and actions. We see this multiple times during the series, the most prime example being in MW2019 when Price and Gaz are interrogating The Butcher with Yegor. The Butcher taunts Gaz, causing Gaz to lunge and Price to send him off to fetch.. “The package”. The package being, The Butcher’s family. The reboot games, you have choices, so I’ll give the very basic run down.
You have the option to opt into the interrogation or to opt out of it. If you opt out, Price bursts out of the room with the information (if you go near the door, you hear The Butcher’s family sobbing). If you opt in, you have so many options. At the end of the day, Gaz is mostly silent and follows orders from Price. In the police cruiser scene, Gaz questions Price in the car—he did not expect to be using women and children as bargaining chips and he makes that clear, and this is a big teaching moment between Gaz and Price. We have to remember that Gaz is young and considering everything, inexperienced to an extent. Price makes up for that inexperience, teaching him along the way. During the interrogation scene, Price makes a remark: “We’ve taken the gloves off.” This is because Gaz lashed out. Later in the car, Price says “When you take the gloves off, you get blood on your hands, Kyle. That’s how it works.” after Gaz questions him.
CONCLUSION
Overall, Gaz is a very complex character and I enjoyed watching his development during these games. I’ve seen people claim Gaz is boring or plain, but I genuinely do not believe that to be the case. Gaz, in my opinion, is also the most relatable character. He’s young, ambitious, and determined. He’s charismatic and efficient. I don’t believe a character has to be extremely traumatized, or look very very unique to be a well-crafted character and Gaz is a great example for this.
Gaz is just a man who enlisted; someone who is smart and well-rounded (as much as an SAS member can be), he’s quick on his feet and he molds into group work fantastically. He’s extremely versatile and is a quick learner—and wants to learn. He has his flaws that make him human. Gaz develops great self control, is level-minded and is able to think for himself. A great student questions their mentor in everything and you see this with Gaz.
You see Gaz struggle with morality in the series in a sea of characters who kill and do things without a second thought. We see him question things, we see his emotions and his extreme reluctance. We definitely see some development down the road as Gaz becomes more ruthless, but he never quite forgets his humanity in a way, compared to Price where he can easily disconnect humanity (ex. Calling The Butcher’s wife and son “the package/leverage”).
Along with this, we see him struggle with the rules in place. I also think this is why Gaz and Price’s dynamic is great. There are rules for a reason, and both Price and Gaz know when to break them—but Gaz learns that breaking some rules doesn’t always happen for the most heroic of actions (again, Price’s quote about bloodying your hands after taking the gloves off). Gaz wants to save people and keep the peace, we see this in Piccadilly during the terrorist attacks and the aftermath scene with Price where Gaz lets the Captain know that he and his unit had actionable intel on the terrorist cell who committed the act. Of course, we see later down the road that taking the gloves off removes all limits, not just some of them. We also see a glimpse of Gaz’s conflicting feelings when 141, Farah & Alex, as well as Laswell learn about Hadir and his plans, as well as when Farah’s forces are deemed a terrorist organization.
I think I rambled on a lot about him, hopefully this is understandable!

Nimona headcanons plus a little bonus at the end
Whenever the trio gets home it's like a switch is flipped off inside their brains and all they want to do is be lazy and relax
They’ve got very busy and stressful lives and a pretty small home so it’s not uncommon for them to yell when they’re asking a question instead of just getting up
And if they can’t hear each other they’ll just call the other person
One time Ambrosius was yelling asking them what wanted for dinner and was interrupted by Nimona calling him
He answered the phone and all they said was “What’d you say I couldn't hear you” he didn’t even question it he just kept talking
Nimona brings dead animals home
I have this small headcanon that the first time she shifted into her human form was when she met Gloreth
So before that she was living mostly as different animals and she kind of learned their ways and those ways stuck with her
So there is a small part of her that sees Bal and Ambrosius as incompetent hunters (can you blame her)
The boys always thank her for her doing a good job and then they wait for her to leave the room before they freak out because MY GOD SHE BROUGHT A FUCKING DEAD RAT IN THE DAMN HOUSE
There have also been times when she’s brought live animals inside the house the trio spent half an hour trying to get a traumatized bird out of their living room
I just know for a fact that Bal has a crazy amount of brain damage
This man has used his head as a weapon and has been hit on the head more times than I can count
So I feel like he has a really hard time remembering the little details he gets really bad migraines and headaches pretty frequently his eyesight is absolute shit and he has to wear contacts or glasses and he gets really bad vertigo if he doesn’t take care of himself
This worries the shit out of Ambrosius and Nimona but there isn't much they can do except deal with the symptoms when they show up
So I was thinking about the fact that as far as we know Nimona never told Bal about what went down with Gloreth
But I know that the boys would try and heal the damage that Gloreths legacy left behind
And in the middle of everything Bal turned to Ambrosius and said “I just wish that fucking eyesore was gone”
He didn’t have to ask what he meant he knew it was the statue
So Ambrosius got to work trying to get it torn down
A lot of people including some distant relatives that he hasn’t heard from in years tried to argue that it was an important monument and that her story touched a lot of people
To which Ambrosius responded with “I’m her direct descendant if anyone gets to choose what happens to that statue it should be me”
It was a couple of months into Nimona’s return when the demolition was approved
The boys had asked him a while after he came back if it was something he wanted
And all he said was “As long as I get to help”
It was super therapeutic for both Nimona and Ambrosius
Like don’t get me wrong the damage she did to Nimona is still there
And Ambrosius will always have a complicated relationship with his lineage
But tearing down the “fucking eyesore” heals something inside them
It was supposed to be a month-long process but Nimona and Ambrosius kept going and it was completely gone after two weeks
When all was said and done they collapsed on the couch and went through just about every single emotion you can go through
A little bonus I made my mama watch Nimona with me and here are some of my favorite comments: Mind you when I first put the movie on this woman was acting like I was pulling teeth
“I like the queen she seems nice” (and then she freaked out when she died)
“So they’re nice to him 'cause he’s gold I would just steal the armor what does he have without that?” “Money Mama” “Ah”
“Why are they so mean to him he’s just a baby?” (talking about Bal)
“She’s just like you especially with those freaky eyes” (when Nimona met Bal)
“Oh, so she’s the rhino…. Makes sense”
“Awe she’s cute I can't hate her” (about Nimona again)
“Oh wait she isn’t cute that’s freaky” (when Nimona was the demon baby)
“That’s like you and your sister” (Bal and Nimona interrogating the squire)
“Hey, mama is arm chopping a love language?” “I’m worried that you would even ask me that”
“Oh he’s got issues huh?” (after Ambrosius’ internal freak out)
“Can he die a little quieter… and faster” (after the Director stabbed “Ambrosius”)
“Oh fuck that little blond girl”
We had to pause the movie right before Nimona started her rampage because we were getting tired and I woke up to her in front of the tv with it pulled up on Netflix and she turned to me and said “Can we finish it already?”
“If she sacrificed herself I will never forgive you”
“Do you watch anything with straight people?” “Mama you literally ship them” “That's not an answer” (this is right after Bal and Ambrosius kissed)
“Is there a next part?..... so when’s the next one coming out?”
Once the movie was over I told her some people thought Ambrosius and Bal were related and she looked me dead in the eyes and said
“You’re joking. No you have no be kidding… He literally said it in the movie!” “Said what Mama?” “oh I love him so much and I lost him whatever will I do”
And then she kept making fun of Ambrosius for the next three minutes
I asked her who her favorite was and she said Nimona I go “aweee you love me” she looks me dead in my eyes and says “don’t make it awkward”

Dungeon: Grandfather's Hungering Maw
Said to have been carved by an exiled dwarven king after his name and ignominious deeds were stricken from the records of his clan, this brooding edifice contains a darkness far deeper than any normal glacial cave.
The dungeon's name comes from a settlement in the foothills, with a mostly human population ignorant of the monument's dwarven origins. In their myths the face is infact that of a great giant, tricked by the folkhero founder of their village into staying very, very still while he was served a great feast, growing so spoiled and indolent that he was eventually buried by the mountain snow and froze solid. A recent series of avalanches that've buried paths and even destroyed homesteads have put it into people's heads that grandfather might be waking up.
Adventure Hooks:
A merchant caravan the party is riding along with takes a detour up into the highlands, following rumours of a village that's paying a premium for foodstuffs of late. Upon arrival they're strongarmed out of their cargo by a crowd of armed villagers, who heap the provisions on an overburned yak cart set to depart up the mountain on the next day. Fear of the giant has made some of the villagers turn into a panicked mob, emptying the granaries and raiding their neighbour's larders to supply ever larger and hastier "tribute" runs up to the mountain's mouth. Food is growing scarce in the village, and those with the foresight to worry about winter provisions dare not speak up: An old woman was accidentally killed trying to fend off the toughs uprooting her garden, and her still warm body was piled into the yak cart next to her unripe rutabagas.
Seeking the power of her infamous ancestor, a disfavoured daughter of the dwarven throne has ventured to the Maw with a group of sellswords in tow in the hopes of discovering the means of making herself queen. Down into the mountain's gullet they've found a great labyrinth, hewn over centuries by the still shuffling corpse of the nameless king, unable to fully rest until he has constructed a tomb worthy of his hubris. The would be ruler and her entourage are eating well thanks to the unsuspecting villagers' food deliveries, and have a few agents in town helping the process along while they continue their delve.
There's more than a stone worn skeleton and a few fortune hunters inhabiting the depths. A millennia ago Ahlkenahl the Vanquisher was a feared demon of war, thought invincible before the dwarven king forged a ring with the fiend's true name inscribed upon it and forced the Vanquisher to pledge an oath of eternal servitude. Driven into exile along with his mortal captor, Ahlkenahl has resentfully laboured alongside the king as he descended into witless undeath, even centuries after the ring was lost somewhere in the tomb along with the chipped fingerbone it rested on. The demon's occasional demolition filled bouts of rage cause the avalanches on the mountain's exterior, and they've only grown more frequent as he's attempted to stop the Heir and her underlings from finding the ring.
It's a three way race between the players, the dwarven heir, and the fiend to see who can find the ring first, having to not only battle eachother, but subterranean monsters, collapsing tunnels, and freezing glacier caverns along the way. Of course Ahlkenahl doesn't play fair, as the fiend can revive any body that finds its way into the Hungering Maw (such as dead villagers loaded on the Yak cart or slain sellswords) into undead minions, growing in strength as the situation becomes more desperate. The fiend can even send the undead down into the valley to do his bidding, chasing after whichever group managed to get the ring first or even go on a murder-filled supply run to bring back more bodies.
Simply getting the ring isn't enough to control Ahlhenahl, as the war-demon's true name is written in an infernal script that must be researched before it can be understood and spoken aloud. This gives the party a chance to catch up if the heir makes it out of the labyrinth with the prize and vice versa. It likewise gives Ahlkenahl's undead minions time to become a real threat both in number and as he deliberately creates more fearsome versions.
The Vanquisher can freely communicate with anyone holding the ring, an ability originally intended to allow the exiled king to command his bound demon in the field which now allows Ahlkenahl to whisper temptation into the ear of whoever holds it. Think of what he could do for them if they let him out of the labyrinth, the enemies he could slay, the kingdom he could carve on their behalf. Sure it would mean unleashing a walking massacre on the landscape but what's a little carnage between pactmates?

Ogimaa Mikana is an artist collective founded by Susan Blight (Anishinaabe, Couchiching) and Hayden King (Anishinaabe, Gchi’mnissing) in January 2013. Through public art, site-specific intervention, and social practice, we assert Anishinaabe self-determination on the land and in the public sphere.
The Ogimaa Mikana Project is an effort to restore Anishinaabemowin place-names to the streets, avenues, roads, paths, and trails of Gichi Kiiwenging (Toronto) - transforming a landscape that often obscures or makes invisible the presence of Indigenous peoples. Starting with a small section of Queen St., re-naming it Ogimaa Mikana (Leader's Trail) in tribute to all the strong women leaders of the Idle No More movement, the project hopes to expand throughout downtown and beyond.
“The Anishinaabeg endure. We do so through settler colonial time, and across space.  We do so in contention. Untitled (All Walls Crumble) considers this movement. To be Indigenous in the city is so often a struggle for recognition, to be seen, and to resist the erasure that is common in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, etc. Yet with recognition also comes appropriation and co-optation. In this unease, we consider the benefits of erasure, or at least, covert movement. Inspired by stories of our relatives and ancestors counting coup, and Basil Johnson’s description of warfare more generally, the Ogimaa Mikana Project considers the tension between visibility and invisibility to challenge settler colonial logic. Against a crumbling wall holding up Ottawa’s major highway - scheduled for demolition and replacement - we draw attention to the ways the settler state recycles itself, and by extension, affirms its legitimacy. We see it and resist in provocative ways that mirror a there/not there presence. Against this crumbling wall, we reclaim space for an anti-recognition: to speak to each other, as Anishinaabeg, as communities pushed out by gentrification, as the colonized, and offer a refrain and a sign of defiance: “Wakayakoniganag da pangishin. Nin d'akiminan kagige oga ahindanize.”

When I was a child in the '80s, I absorbed some kind of cultural truism that disco was ridiculous, embarrassing, cheesy, a cultural relic to be mocked at every turn. Remember, I'm under ten years old at this time, and I still manage to get this impression. There was another, milder sea change when grunge overtook the hair metal of the late '80s, so I never questioned the idea that disco should be dead and buried. We like silly things, I thought in my 13-year-old wisdom, and then we get over it.
Then I saw The Last Days of Disco (1998) while I was in college, and suddenly I realized that disco was fun, and it was like—it was in the roots of—music I already loved. And the end of that movie also—hints? tells you? I can't remember how explicitly—that disco didn't just fade like most trends; it was killed off.
I watched a lot of VH1 in those days, the late '90s, with a little TV sitting on my tall university-issue dresser, its corner overlooking my computer desk while I struggled with piles of assignments. This was the heyday of Behind the Music, so it was great background TV. And then one day (1999) they ran a Donna Summer—the "Queen of Disco"—concert special. The video up there is the song that immediately became my favorite of hers. It’s just instant serotonin to me, any version of it. I bought the whole VH1 album on CD, and "This Time I Know It's For Real" may genuinely be one of my all-time favorite songs, now, still, more than 20 years later. You can hear the original version (1989) here (the backing instrumental that I just found today is lovely), but the live version ten years later, the video up there, has a really special comeback—joyous, gracious survival—energy to it.
Watching the whole concert, I got it. Why the fuck did I ever think disco wasn't amazing? It was always the kind of thing I loved; we had all just been pretending that it was embarrassing glitter trash.
And then I found out why we were pretending. From densely-footnoted Wikipedia:
Disco Demolition Night was a Major League Baseball (MLB) promotion on Thursday, July 12, 1979, at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois, that ended in a riot. At the climax of the event, a crate filled with disco records was blown up on the field between games of the twi-night doubleheader between the Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers. Many had come to see the explosion rather than the games and rushed onto the field after the detonation. The playing field was so damaged by the explosion and by the rioters that the White Sox were required to forfeit the second game to the Tigers. [...] The popularity of disco declined significantly in late 1979 and 1980. Many disco artists carried on, but record companies began labeling their recordings as dance music. [...] Rolling Stone critic Dave Marsh described Disco Demolition Night as "your most paranoid fantasy about where the ethnic cleansing of the rock radio could ultimately lead". Marsh was one who, at the time, deemed the event an expression of bigotry, writing in a year-end 1979 feature that "white males, eighteen to thirty-four are the most likely to see disco as the product of homosexuals, blacks, and Latins, and therefore they're the most likely to respond to appeals to wipe out such threats to their security. It goes almost without saying that such appeals are racist and sexist, but broadcasting has never been an especially civil-libertarian medium." Nile Rodgers, producer and guitarist for the disco-era band Chic,
(who survived the disco era to make half the music I loved in the '80s)
likened the event to Nazi book burning. Gloria Gaynor, who had a huge disco hit with "I Will Survive," stated, "I've always believed it was an economic decision—an idea created by someone whose economic bottom line was being adversely affected by the popularity of disco music. So they got a mob mentality going."
The DJ who ran the whole thing, Steve Dahl, complains that it was VH1 itself—you know, those Behind the Music specials I was watching—circa 1996 that labeled the whole debacle as bigotry when it so totally was not, you guys, and he is so tired of defending himself. But I'm gonna tell you, Steve, I don't really care. Maybe Disco Demolition Night was your fault; maybe you were just a part of something so much bigger and uglier that you couldn't see the whole size of it. Can you draw a direct line from the weird bigoted vitriol directed at those dance records to Ronald Reagan, elected the very next year, not giving a single fuck about the AIDS crisis? You probably don't want to, but I will.
And I don't care because I can look around the U.S. right now and tell you, nearly 45 years later, people are trying to demolish a lot more than disco. The Club Q shooter was sentenced to life in prison just a few hours ago. It's Pride Month, and we're all sitting here holding our breaths. That's a terrible way to end a post about a beautiful happy song I love, I guess, unless you turn it around and say, that should have been the whole point of this post in the first place. Listen to this song and think, people wanted to destroy this music, this sound, this joy for some reason. They want to stop people from just living their lives, from dancing. And yet, disco is still here. It was there in 1979, and it was there when Donna Summer released this song in 1989, and it was there when she returned in 1999. The Queen of Disco passed away in 2012, and it's still here. I feel a lot of joy when I listen to this song, but I don't think I'd ever thought about it being the joy of grooving with something just because it’s beautiful, the joy of just being here, still.

One thing Sevika needs to be appreciated for more is how fucking funny she is like. Her character is HILARIOUS I love her SO much.
First of all, the most obvious example is the fact that she ditched Vander for Silco because he was being too soft for his kids to the point of abandoning the cause, only for Silco to adopt one of those same fucking kids like a DAY later.
Sevika:
Tumblr media
That same kid also happens to be the one who blew her up and vaporized her arm. Imagine waking up in severe pain, missing a limb, and your boss is like "Welcome back. btw meet Jinx, she's my child now haha say hi to the newest member of the Cause :)" You look. It's the same blue haired gremlin Vander ditched the cause for. Your boss isn't done. "Btw she's the one who bombed us ahah quite the little demolitions expert eh?" You want to die.
Then as Jinx grows up and becomes more and more of a Problem, she starts seriously beefing with this 17 year old kid. Just full on disdain and hatred for this child. This is Sevika's face when she gets the chance to trigger Jinx's trauma and prey on her deepest insecurities to try and bring about a mental breakdown:
Tumblr media
Fucking hell, Sevika.
Then the FUNNIEST fucking thing she ever does in this show. Plays Finn like a fiddle from the start all the way to the end. Her telling Silco that she was never tempted by Finn specifically makes it even better because that means that this...
Tumblr media
... isn't some look of contemplating his offer to join his ranks, she was never swayed by this dumbass. So it's very likely that in this scene this woman is thinking "Damn that's a nice lighter. I'm totally taking it after I kill him lmao."
And she just leans into the drama of it all, partly to make her ploy convincing, but also partly, as I choose to believe, because it's hilarious. She really barges into Silco's office, pulls out a chair for Finn and dusts it off before he sits on it akdjandmakskss
Tumblr media
All the while knowing she's going to kill this fool. The theatrics. The savagery. The commitment to the Act. *Chef's kiss*
She gets blown up, beaten, shot at, gassed, strung upside down, and thrown through walls - and is still alive by the end of it. Comically unkillable queen. I laughed my ass off every time she reappeared Alive and Well after suffering the most brutal ordeal and seeming to be dead.
Like. She believes in freedom for the oppressed but she's not above being a dickhead to mentally ill teens. She's willing to die for her boss but also orchestrates a situation where she can make him shit his pants just to get a point across. She has terrible luck and takes constant Ls. She gets her head bashed into concrete numerous times and somehow doesn't have brain damage. Skull of steel. She is fucking hilarious. I'm obsessed with her.

Now that I've played the MW campaign and am even more unhinged about the MW3 campaign, here are my completely unasked for thoughts on how Activision should've mapped out the games for an at least 6 game story arc
MW
Absolutely no changes. Kyle is a precious muffin. Price is a precious muffin. Alex is a precious muffin. Farah is a queen.
Interesting campaign. Diverse levels. Dynamic and well thought out storyline.
MW2
My baby. The love of my life. My most precious muffin. That campaign? That storyline? Chef's kiss. Ale and Rudy? The best additions. Valeria?? Fucking wonderful. That plot twist?? Grasping my pearls
No changes
MW3
More 141 levels, make the intro levels 141 as a well oiled machine, digging up the intel telling about the prison break. Give more background to what Farah is in the middle of instead of dropping right in especially with fucking Graves suddenly chilling on the comms, bridging that gap between MW2 and here. Take out a good chunk of the Makarov cut scenes and give more levels chasing intel, letting the player put together the pieces with every cold trail Makarov leaves behind, getting frustrated along with the team. Keep the flashback once the team reaches boiling point, but make Ghost less inclined towards Johnny to keep more inline with their reluctant start in MW2.
Shepherd and Graves go off the grid after they give their intel, they disappear. Makarov is making moves in Urzikstan so 141 goes to help ULF (did I mention more 141?). It was a distraction, they uncover Makarov's plans for London, scramble back, it plays out, Price ends up dead (it's a military game, people are going to die, and Price dying had the most potential impact. Come along, I'll explain), Makarov gets away.
Final cut scene is a funeral send off Price deserves, montage of the boys back on base dealing with the aftermath, and Laswell finding Ghost, explaining how he's the Lieutenant, he's the obvious next choice to take up the mantle and Ghost simply says "I'm not the obvious choice" and the final scene pans on Gaz, the Robin to Price's Batman.
The levels will be meatier, longer, and at least 5 more added to deepen the story. Diversity of the play style will be more than just standard campaign and online-layout. The Makarov plot will be discovered by the player, not told to them, adding more intrigue to the character. The final level will be multi tiered, hopping between the two pairs. Actually 8 hours of gameplay instead of the measly 3 they gave us (yes, the MW3 campaign is 3 hours of gameplay compared to MW and MW2s 8 hours each)
MW4
Open to 141 arriving on mission, Soap tapping Gaz on the shoulder and says "Ready when you are, Captain" with that cheeky smile. Makarov's gone dark, eerily quiet the past couple months, but they have a lead on Shepherd and Graves so they're going in. It all points back to Mexico, Graves accepting his military career is fucked after Las Almas and turning Shadow Company into full mercs instead of PMCs now, specializing in weapons dealings. He recognized the advantage a deal with Valeria could have and they've been working together.
CUT TO LOS VAQUEROS/141 REUNION. More Alejandro and Rudy background (just let Alain Mesa, the BAFTA Game Award Nominee for this freaking role, fucking shine). Dive into the Valeria background, make the raid mentioned during her interrogation a flashback level in Valeria's POV. The team has to go undercover to get close to the intel, Rudy gets picked, gathers the intel, but gets compromised. Now its a race to rescue Rudy. Ale and Gaz go after Rudy while Soap and Ghost follow the lead Rudy got them. Ale and Gaz raid a cartel base/prison, let Ale take Gaz under his wing recognizing the young captain's feeling the pressure, some banter, some advice, wholesome Ale and Gaz bonding.
Soap, on the other hand, is barely being contained by Ghost. He's in full attack dog mode with Graves scent nearby and Ghost has half a mind to let the demolition expert go completely feral, but the lieutenant part of him keeps his sergeant in check. Further their dynamic, more banter balancing right on the edge. They clear out the compound, find a gold mine of intel around the dealings, and Johnny gets to put the bullet right between Graves' eyes.
One line in the intel catches their eyes - Makarov
MW5/6
Make the Makrov storyline a 3 game storyline - MW3 intro and back-to-back MW 5 and 6. Now with ties in Mexico and ULF, all established teams and beloved characters can be brought in in some aspect throughout both games to take him down.
Ale and Rudy are cleaning up El Sin Nombre's ties in Las Almas, cutting each line of Valeria's arms dealings, trying to cut off the courier of Makarov's destruction.
Farah continues to lead ULF to free Urzikstan, Makarov taking advantage of the dissent and chaos and placing a foothold there, ultimately dividing forces and efforts from his background machinations.
With Makarov's trail warm again, the 141 are out for blood. Could take the plunge and make GhostSoap canon through subtle dialogue options or touch gestures in cut scenes. The end is possibly near, they're all allowing themselves to think about the future, why not take the plunge Activision? Or they stay vague/platonic and the dynamic is further developed. Dialogue options and cut scenes show further bond with Gaz as well who's stepped into being Captain a little more, easing into the shoes.
MW5 is cat and mouse. Makarov leaves little treats and traps and the team is chasing after their tails, always 3 steps behind him. Give Makarov more scenes, not telling the player his plan but let his character development fly. Let the unhingedness flourish.
Finally, they catch a break at the end of the game and MW6 is the final chase. 8 hours of them hunting down Makarov. Ale and Rudy cleaned up Las Almas and can join them, bringing the whole gang together internationally (bonus points to make one a cold weather mission and the two Mexicans are just bitching the whole time just for Soap and Ghost to tease them back about payback for having to deal with the Mexican desert for a whole week). Two characters would die (not in one game, over the course of the two) - Farah (she's been a fighter her whole life, it would be a full circle for her to heroically go out with a gun in her hand) and either Ghost or Soap.
Soap dying here would be so much more impactful. He'd be more established as a character, have deeper relationships with all members of the game, and it's highly possible to have a situation where a charge isn't going so he's the only one who can pull it off (reminiscent of Hevy in TCW). Going out in a blaze just like he's always imagined.
Ghost dying would be another full circle option with his canon (it would be a sacrificial choice, dying on his own terms as his own choice) and with his long career, it would be heartbreaking but understandable. This also leaves the 141 in the hands of the two youngest, the Captain and the new Lieutenant, tasked with bringing in the next generation of the best soldiers.
And if there just happens to be a cut scene where Johnny has an extra pair of dog tags and a modest ring dangling from his chain? Then you know I infiltrated the Activision writers' room.
Oh what happened to Shepherd you ask? End credits role on MW6 and another cut scene begins. A lone cabin in the middle of nowhere in the woods, smoke trailing out of the chimney. Cut interior, a haggard Shepherd bent over a desk, mumbling to himself, scribbling on something. He tacks the paper on the board in front of him, revealing Gaz and Soap's pictures amidst a mess of strings and maps and notes saying "Traitors". Then it cuts black
Boom, there you go Activision. Enjoy all of your awards and record breaking sales. It could've been that easy
