Hopes for TBOC’s marketing campaign

Let me start by saying that this is a marketing rant. I’m going to unfold glaring issues I’ve noticed with the marketing strategies being implemented so far. If it’s not your cup of tea, now is the time to scroll past this post. 

If you’re feeling more exhausted than usual in the fandom, you're having to defend Carol/Caryl online a LOT lately, or you’re finding yourself exercising the block/mute button a lot or finding the lack of Carol-focused promo quite disheartening – this may clarify a few things. I’m shedding some light on some marketing nuances that I‘ve noticed over the past few months that are snowballing into the landscape we see today. I'll try and do it in order so you can see the how some of these strategies connect with each other.  

Promotion without both leads

After the initial two weeks of promo during October, we didn't see a ton of Carol-focused promo. If you go back and look at promo content, news, articles, casting calls, teasers, etc., that followed, you’ll notice one person is largely missing from all of them. Melissa McBride’s name or Carol's pictures/ footage aren’t always found in articles/ news related to the show dubbed “The Book of Carol,” which is often just referred to as Daryl Dixon S2.  

Articles often say, "McBride is joining Daryl Dixon S2." Sometimes, she isn't even mentioned, which may not seem really big or just an error, but these little things compound into bigger issues, like fostering disrespect towards the female lead. We all know that it's their show together, so why not call it that? Why not feature her name in every instance? Why not speak about them equally?

94% of consumers are likely to be loyal to a brand that offers complete transparency.¹ Why let speculation and disrespect continue when they can be neutralized by taking a stand?

Toxicity-inducing posts/narratives

What I mentioned above inevitably starts rumours or opens pathways for people to disrespect Carol or, worse, makes fans feel like they need to be “grateful for the crumbs that they’re getting,” which not only lowers expectations but perpetuates this tactic that leans into the bare minimum and festers toxicity.

Most importantly, it encourages narratives and speculation that she's a "small part of Daryl's story" or that she may not be around for the long haul. It opens the forum to speculate about Carol's fate and I don't have to explain why it's frustrating to read narratives like that.

It's especially problematic because the show is supposed to eventually make way for "their story". This makes TBOC's core audience feel like they’re waiting for crumbs or encourages infighting in the fandom. It's causing strain on people's mental health, and so many are hanging on by a thread. This toxicity makes fans feel unsafe and uncomfortable in the space that is supposed to provide a safe haven. A space where they can share their love for their favourite characters/ship and build anticipation for their show. Which brings me to...

Positioning strategy

When TBOC promo strategy commenced, the fandom rejoiced because “to find home is to find each other” was established as the tagline and a positioning strategy which leaned into who Carol and Daryl are to each other. When I say "positioning strategy", I mean leaning into what makes the show unique. Now, sometimes, it can be incorporated more unethically when it pokes holes into the competitor's product/service/show, but In TBOC's case, they leaned into the biggest selling point of their show, which is Daryl and Carol's relationship, aka what Carylers have been asking for since S2 of the flagship show. Carylers are a great core audience to have because engagement online picks up quickly, with or without their help. 

There are two ways of looking at it – the first way is building on the hype until the promo circuit picks up, and the second way is not putting in a lot of effort because the fans are doing a lot of the legwork. Which one do you think is being implemented right now? They built hype for the first two weeks after Carol's cameo, but unfortunately, that wave crashed before they let fans do the amplifying for them. Which brings me to…

Placating instead of amplifying 

Carol’s pictures/ footage so far has been taken on set or promo stills from the flagship show used in tweets by the official accounts. We can all agree that seeing Melissa and Norman on set is lovely. But a lot of Carol solidarity posts drop because of some inflammatory comment/post/article that pissed Carol/Caryl fans off. Take this, for example: 

There are multiple instances of this. Many set pictures/ promo related content drops around the time there is discomfort amongst Caryl/Carol fans. When you're placating fans because they're pissed, you're trying to neutralize a negative feeling, so the anticipation doesn't build as sustainably and leaves people wanting more. Happiness helps people connect and share content quickly. Positive content spreads faster on social media than any other type of content.² Pictures used to placate fans don’t have the same effect if they amplified the hype for the sake of it. When you amplify a character or ship to build on the hype, it capitalizes on people's positive feelings like excitement and happiness and builds anticipation quicker. Like this:

Carol deserves more than being promoted only when the toxicity gets so bad that fans start to take mental health breaks or think of leaving altogether. Now we all know that the promo circuit hasn’t officially kicked off yet, so I am hoping that these things change when it begins. This is what I want to see:

Equal promotion – I’d love to see Daryl and Carol featured equally when they promote the Caryl show. Give us all the posters featuring both of them and map out their journey towards each other in the posters and their promo. Daryl and Carol should be featured on equal ground, with no doubt left about both of them being the leads of their show. 

Or, as my friend @kryptoniancape said in our podcast, “The posters need to be so in your face that you have no choice but to accept it, or you can’t deny it anymore.” Daryl and Carol have waited long enough for their story to continue. They deserve a compelling story, but most importantly, they deserve a robust marketing campaign that creates buzz for that story and respects both leads equally. 

Build hype. Build angst – Build hype for Carol’s return. Build the angst with Daryl’s return. Their ship has a robust fan engagement on socials which is a goldmine for any show. The marketing campaign practically writes itself here. 

The Carol-focused promo hopefully leans into her marketability as a timid housewife and a survivour to one of the most formidable women on the show. Carol travelling across continents against all odds for Daryl is a huge defining trait of her character. Daryl’s character is known for his love and loyalty to Carol and his family. His longing for her and his unwavering need to protect her are defining traits of his character.

S1 established that he wants to go home, but he feels “stuck” (why? I don’t know). The angst needs to be focused on Daryl’s need to get back home to Carol, the kids, and the rest of his family. Trying to lean into Daryl’s “indecisiveness” because of people he’s known for a short period of time, IMHO undermines his character development. Especially because S2 is focusing on Carol’s side of the story. They both need to be on the same page even though they’re far apart. I don’t know how they will achieve that, but I speak for many when I say most Carylers are waiting for the story to just be about them. 

Leaning into ship baiting to manufacture tension is neither cute nor compelling. Quite frankly, I'm tired of it, especially because Carol and Daryl can build tension with a single look. It's not like this show needs more angst (especially, manufactured angst) than it's going to get with these two trying to find each other.

Building Carol’s and Daryl’s authority (individually and together) – This means tweet threads with memorable moments, articles that validate their characters individually and their ship and its potential, video compilations of their moments together, hyping fanart/fan edits that feature Caryl. The whole enchilada. There are creators sharing their work in this space every day. Take your pick and support them.

I think we can all agree that both Carol and Daryl deserve equal promo; their ship deserves validation, and Carol deserves respect. My last wish for you, dear Caryler, is that you find a safe space where you can talk about the things you love. Take mental health breaks if necessary. Remember that any show related content that you see online is placed there strategically (from a marketing perspective) to leverage the audience or boost viewership. If it doesn't make you happy or bring you hope, or feel good for your mental health – refocus your attention to what does make you happy. Starve the content that doesn't deserve your attention, feed the content that brings you joy.

2012 TMNT 😁

The first character I first fell in love with: 

This should be a no-brainer...I think you know him. Tall, purple bandana, gap between the teeth, way too smart for his own good...yeah, it's him. 😌💜

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: 

Honestly, Raph! I started the show thinking very surface-level of him; awesome ninja, anger issues, stuff like that. Then when I started rewatching the show, I started to see how vulnerable and soft he could be with his brothers - along with unbelievably sassy he can be. Seriously, dude has some of my favorite one-liners in the whole show.🤣❤️

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: 

Oh, this is gonna be interesting...I'm gonna be blunt here, Leo. Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot and he has some amazing moments, but he doesn't necessarily have the snark that makes Raph and Donnie stand out, and the sunshine and humor that makes Mikey so endearing. I love Blue, but he's 4th place out of the four. 💙

The character I love that everyone else hates: 

Hmm...probably Shredder. I've seen people say that his motivation is pretty lame (which, in some way, it kind of is) but he's not just a bratty child. He's a really twisted villain and seems to really believe his motivations are completely justified - and you can't deny he's completely ruthless in battle. Really exemplifies the concept of the head of the Foot - and honestly, I think he's a great villain.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer:

Probably April. I liked her a lot when I was younger (the concept of girl power and she's got a potential romance with my favorite turtle? Sign me up!), but once I got older...she really grated on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, I like her in season 1; she's an inexperienced teenager who's dealing with the pain of having her dad be kidnapped and is meeting some new friends along the way. Season 2 onwards? I wanted to strangle her. Not just because of the love triangle (although that is a part of it,) but also because she lost a lot of that awkwardness that made her likable in season 1, and just became a cliche girlboss. But she wasn't even likable there; she just felt like the token female character needed to add "diversity" to the group.

The character I would totally smooch:

The character I’d want to be like: 

Probably Raph; minus the short temper, I'd love to have the skills he has and the undying love with an animal - be it Spike/Slash or Chompy. Plus, the sass. ❤️

The character I’d slap: 

Well, I already mentioned April, but I like her in season 1 so that saves her. And it's kind of a cliche choice to pick a villain, so let's pick someone that I've despised since the beginning - even when I was a dumb kid.

Casey.

Does he get better in later seasons? Yeah, I'd say so; he becomes less in your face and more...just annoying, but kinda like Mikey annoying where you can't hate him. But in season 2, I wanted to strangle him too - and admittedly, still kinda do. He's way too obnoxious for his own good, is way too gross in his flirting with April (he's not chauvinistic or anything, but you just roll your eyes a lot of the time), and doesn't back up his bragging or anything with actually being likable, unlike Raph.

So yeah, he's the one.

A pairing that I love:

If you asked me this when I was a kid, I would've said Apritello - April and Donnie. Now, I don't shame anyone if they ship them, but let's just say I way prefer my version in All's Fair in Love and Science (shameless self-promo 😅) where they love each other platonically and April shamelessly teases him about his crush on my OC, Andi.

But to answer, a pair that I love? Mikey and Renet, personally. She captures that inexperience as a Time Master wonderfully, and she never comes off like an idiot - she's just trying to find her footing. And Mikey's so in awe of her that it's kind of adorable. They both have that same kind of childish, free spirit that makes me just want to protect them. 😅🧡

A pairing that I despise: 

Okay, there are two.

One is the aforementioned Apritello. I used to like them as a kid, but watching it in hindsight is just cringeworthy. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Donnie having a crush (and admittedly, I'm a sucker for the love at first sight trope), but did they have to make it so forced and awkward? And I understand April feeling uncomfortable and not wanting to ruin their friendship about his feelings for her, but that's what communication is. And by not having that, she just kept leading him on and making him think he had a chance - only to either ignore him or just continue treating him like just a friend. It was so forced and awkward and...ugh.

And for the obvious - Leorai, Leo and Karai. Okay, who thought it was a good idea to imply that two siblings could have a romance - and have it be canon that one sibling had a crush on the other? Don't get me wrong, I love Karai; she's bar none my favorite female character in the show. And like I said, I love Leo - but the crush he had on Karai is what brings his character down for me. If they wrote him as impressed by her skills and seeing the good in her from a platonic point of view, it would've been sweet - and added another layer to Leo's character. But no, they went with the pseudo-incest perspective and made us all creeped out.

Just as many of us are thrilled to see rep in s3, many, many women were thrilled at the idea of representation for themselves in s2. It isn’t unreasonable for them to notice the discrepancy in how one actress was treated in comparison to the s1 and s3 white female leads, and it takes nothing away from your love of Nicola / Polin to allow them to express their feelings about that without trying to gaslight them.

It wasn’t the pandemic that made Netflix not do a couple’s poster, or one for Simone alone, or deny requests for joint Johnny and Simone interviews. It wasn’t the pandemic that had Netflix do that and give the EW article to other characters, rather than Simone, Simone and Johnny, or heck, Simone, Johnny, and Charithra. No, y’all essentially got a Polin shoot for s2. Which, yay for you, but think how you’d feel if this season it was all Benedict or Francesca promo instead of Penelope. Wouldn’t you think Netflix was wrong? That it was fatphobic? I would. I therefore think what they did for s2 reeks of racism.

It wasn’t the pandemic that had the writers compare the Sharma sisters to horses, literally, horses in a horse race in s2, and pit them against each other for a white man.

I could go on, people post receipts of this all the time, and you don’t need to take it as personally as many have, but don’t gaslight fans who saw it. Don’t encourage white fans to dismiss the people who are deeply hurt by it. No one is saying not to celebrate what y’all are getting, but there is a discrepancy and pointing it out and demanding better is a good thing that in no way detracts from the fact that Nicola / Polin / s3 is getting everything and more than y’all could ever ask. It’s gross to tell woc to shut the fuck up and be grateful when they got so much less than what the selling point of the show (diversity) promised.

I normally don’t get involved in this kind of stuff but your post was in the Kanthony tag, so I felt it merited a response, knowing how much it would hurt people. People who have already been deeply hurt by Bridgerton and the fandom. This isn’t some kind of shipping war, it’s so much more important, and I’m dismayed at how callous the fandom is being about all this.

I haven’t and will never say that people can’t be upset by the blatant differences in how the seasons have been promoted. Nor have I said anyone shouldn’t talk about it or to be quiet about it. I see now that it was wrong to say the pandemic influenced what went on, bc people have sent me things since indicating that there very much is a lot of racial differences and unfair treatment for both of the leads the last season. It’s true Simone and Johnny both were paid dust, and to have the sister’s stories altered and changed is not something I agree with. I’m not trying to encourage anyone to do anything. The only thing I don’t agree with and I’ve said before is making it seem like any of these actors chose things that production did. I wish Simone and Johnny were featured more in this season and got more than what they did in the last! It’s Netflix and Shonda that are the ones pushing these things and deciding what does or doesn’t happen. Blaming the actors for it doesn’t do anything because they don’t have a say in what is or isn’t done, that’s all Netflix and Shonda. I don’t understand throwing vitriol over couples and actors who don’t decide things. I don’t agree with anyone doing that. And I’ll make it clear now that I don’t agree with Netflix or Shonda or condone anything they’ve done that has hindered Johnny and Simone in any way, shape, or form, or has caused fans to come after them for starring in a show and playing characters that people connect with and love dearly. I wish there would’ve been better representation than what we were given, and I hope the future seasons have even better representation and they take the criticism over racist descriptions and lack of promotion to their heads and it actually clicks that what they did wasn’t fair or right.

Summary : Two witches, two personalities, for an interesting enemies to lovers story.

Ominis Gaunt, heiress of the renowned Gaunt family. The Gaunts were a perfect family, pure-blood wizards, silky blond hair, soft and fair skin, Ominis was everything, except for one thing, her eyes. She was born blind, due to their highly incestuous family tree. She also suffered from several traumas, because of her family's antics, but she was strong, she didn't want to let her family win, she would succeed on her own without the use of dark arts.

You on the other hand were a simple half blood, your father was a muggle, living in the muggle world while your mother owned a farm in the wizarding world, they were divorced but it didn't matter to you, they were happier like that and you loved them all the same. Your life was rather uneventful aside from one thing, your best friend, a Hufflepuff girl who loved risking her life saving animals. You wanted her to stay safe, so you always accepted to accompany her on her adventures, but that was about it.

That day, you just came back from a rescue mission with Poppy, and despite the dangerousness of it all, you had a lot of fun escaping with all the Puffskein rolling alongside you as you ran. Laughing and joking with your bestfriend about it, you didn't pay attention to where you were going and ended up colliding with something, a surprised gasp leaving your mouth before you realized it was someone you bumped into. Immediately, you started to apologize, but the girl you bumped into just stayed silent before sighing, her tone weary.

- "Do be careful... Slag."

Resuming her path, you watched her walk away, her wand in hand, glowing red. Dumbfounded by this encounter, you blinked multiple times before looking at Poppy.

- " Who is she ??"

Frowning her brows as if you just asked her who was Merlin, she still replied, with a confused tone.

- " You don't know her ??... It's Ominis ! Ominis Gaunt, she's a pure blood, her family is obsessed with their lineage and they're kinda scary... I don't know her much but a lot of students are wary of her..."

- "I see... And what's up with her wand ?"

- "Oh that, yes ! She's blind, so she uses it to navigate in the castle, I honestly find her wand so fascinating, it's almost like it's sentient. But Y/N how did you spend so many years in Hogwarts without knowing her ? She's one of the most popular students!"

- "I don't know... I guess I didn't pay attention to her before..."

Shrugging your shoulders you glanced in the direction that Ominis girl went before resuming your journey with Poppy.

After a girl bumped into her, Ominis felt exhausted, she was the one who was blind and seeing people were the one who didn't look where they were going... Bunch of ungrateful idiots... Fortunately, her best friend was here, Sebastian was the only guy she could rely on, and she was grateful for it, they both took care of each other after they both went through difficult times. Sebastian had lost his sister, and Ominis naturally became his "sister" of heart, even before that they often bickered like real siblings, so the relationship wasn't forced.

She was currently going to their secret place, the Undercroft they called it, there they could talk about everything and train their magic without being disturbed by anyone. As she entered the room, she rapidly noticed Sebastian's presence, approaching him.

- "I swear people in this school are pathetic, some girl managed to run into me and she definitely wasn't blind"

Sighing, she sat next to her friend, suddenly smelling a foreign odor on him and frowning.

- "Did you meet with someone ? You smell weird"

Sebastian who didn't have the chance to speak until now, suddenly remembered something and nodded his head even tho Ominis couldn't see it.

- "Ah yes ! I uh... I tried bare-hand fighting"

- "Bare-hand what ??"

- "They introduced it in Crossed Wands ! It's Y/N who brought the idea and I fought against her, it's actually pretty fun- I learned a lot of hand-to-hand techniques thanks to her"

- "Bloody hell Sebastian... "

Even more desperate Ominis shook her head before hitting his friend in the shoulder.

- " If you want to fight I'm right there, stop getting in trouble would you"

- "Actually you should try it, maybe it would remove the stick up your arse"

Not thinking twice, Ominis started hitting Sebastian with more force who started laughing while trying to protect himself with his arms.

- "Sorry, I'm sorry !! I take it back !"

- "Yeah you better"

Glaring in what she thought was Sebastian's direction, she then remembered the name his friend mentioned.

- "Who's Y/N by the way ?"

- "Hm I actually don't really know, she's a Hufflepuff and she spends a lot of time with Poppy, but that's about all I know. Oh and she fights really well with her fists"

- "And she's a girl ?... Seems like an odd customer"

- "She is !.. Anyway, shall we go eat ?"

Yes, you were a phenomenon indeed, you loved fighting, the thrill, the adrenaline of it all, it was so exciting! So yeah, you didn't accompany Poppy only to protect her, but also because you loved it. What you didn't like though was Ominis, since the day you bumped into her, you kept on seeing her everywhere, and everytime, you could feel her glaring at you, and you didn't even know how since she was, well, blind. You just had cold sweat running down your back every single time even though you were supposed to be one of the most fearless students in the castle, and it made you furious.

- "What's going on Y/N ?"

- "I feel weird... I'm just gonna go to the toilet, I'll be right back"

- "Okay..."

Poppy watched you leave the table, it was unusual for you to look this down, so she inevitably started to worry but she wanted to give you some privacy so she didn't insist.

That's how you found yourself in the girl's toilets, washing your face while mumbling curse until a sly voice interrupt you.

- "Y/N, is that right?"

Straightening up and wiping your face with the sleeves of your robes, you turned to face the blond woman, glaring at her.

- "What do you want?"

- "Why so aggressive? I'm just here to talk... Sebastian was right, you really are something"

- "Sebastian ? You know him ?"

- "Yes, very well, and that's why I'm here"

Ominis started walking towards you after speaking, making you back up against the sinks, it was like you couldn't control your body. You always stood your ground whatever the situation, so why were you acting like a scaredy cat all of a sudden ?

- "You see, Sebastian's my best friend, you could even say my brother, I care about him and his safety... So either you stop fighting with him or I'll snitch about your stupid fight club to the director, who happens to be a friend of my father, understood?"

Unable to object, you just nervously swallowed before whispering a small yes. A bit surprised by this change of attitude, Ominis frowned her brows before a little laugh left her mouth.

- "Not so cocky now are you ? Well, I guess the brave Y/N I heard of isn't so brave after all, I better not see you again... Well not "see" but you see what I mean"

Rolling her eyes while explaining the blind "joke", she then walked out of the room without another word, leaving you in your state of anger and incomprehension. Even more furious after this altercation, you clenched your fists before punching the wall, a scream leaving your mouth.

- " WHAT THE HELL, THIS FUCKING GIRL"

Clenching your teeth, you started whispering to yourself, thinking of a rational reason for your sudden fear.

- "She must have cast a spell on me, yeah that's it ! Bloody cheater..."

Satisfied with her intervention, Ominis got back to the refectory, sitting down next to Sebastian who looked at her, inquisitive.

- "Where did you go ?"

- "Toilets"

- "Hmm 'kay... You seem weirdly happy about it"

- "Oh really ? I guess I just peed well"

Sebastian started laughing snidely at that, Ominis following suit, the two having a fit of laughter for several minutes before resuming eating.

You, on the other hand, were all but laughing, sitting down next to Poppy with a dark expression.

- "Wow Y/N... You really don't look well..."

- "You don't know how much I wanna punch something right now"

- "Oh..."

Punching, punching and punching, until the bag falls on the floor from the force of your blows. I have 12 works, two are not finished, and the rest are mostly one-shots. I also have like 4 or 5 other works in my docs that I really need to finish.

Mostly criminal minds.

I do have a few fics from other shows, but that is just because every time two women look at each other for a couple of seconds, I like to write them being in love. 5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

YES!! Every. Single. One.

My heart melts every time I see that someone commented on one of my fics. I would love to hug every person who takes the time to comment on one of my fics and give them a little kiss on their forehead, but I can't. The only thing I can do is reply to those comments and let them know how much it meant to me! :)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I haven't written much angst that I like enough to post. And I usually write more hurt/comfort than angst, but I have a few of them.

The angstiest I have written so far is Paris is lonely in the mornings or (and if I didn't know better) I'd think you were still around. But I think once I finish the jemily fic I'm writing based on Is it over now? they won't be the angstiest anymore :).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Like I said, I usually write hurt/comfort or just fluff, so I don't which one has the happiest ending, but here are the softest fics I have written: Personal prayer, Home, Happy birthday! and When Elle falls in love.

Not the happiest ending as such because it isn't finished yet, but my Elle fic Hope (is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have) is on its happy Elle face, and it will have a happy ending.

I haven't (and I'm really grateful because I wouldn't know how to react, to be honest).

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have written a few fics with smut, but I haven't written enough to know what I like to write if that makes sense.

I have. But in the sense of taking a character from another show/movie and making them appear in a fic of another one. Most of the time, I make them into a sort of original character and keep their name.

(Unless you count me translating them into Spanish and keep that somewhere in my docs and forgetting they exist until months later and then delete them. I don't know why I do this because even though Spanish is my first language, I haven't really written in Spanish for years.)

Nope. I don't think I'd be able to because I write the ideas that have been stuck in my mind, but I can't explain them until they are finished (I don't know if it makes sense).

Jemily!! I love them so much!

I also love Elle with any other female character, and lately, I've been writing more of Elle/JJ and Elle/Emily.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have too many WIPs in my docs, and I hope to finish all of them, but I don't know if I will or when I will.

One I don't know if I will finish, and it breaks my heart because I really loved it at first, is one about Emily in Paris when she is "dead," and although I wanted it to have a happy ending, it is pretty angsty, and I don't have the energy to go back to it.

16. What are your writing strengths?

If I am writing a fic about a little idea I had, I have all the details of what I want to write in my head and in a little notebook I take everywhere. I think I'm pretty good at describing the emotions the characters are feeling. So that, I guess.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

It usually takes me so long to write, but in the I can write 70% of something in 4/5 hours but spend twice the time for the other 30% way. I always have too many things in my brain, so focusing on just one to write is the most difficult thing sometimes, and my dyslexia won't let me write the things I want to write in a way that makes sense.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I love it, but when it is a language I don't know, I'm too scared to do it haha.

I do love to write some parts in Spanish in my fics.

It was for a Spanish show about doctors that my best friend and I were obsessed with back when I was 11/12. After that, I would say a few other Spanish shows.

Tonight, for the first time ever, I get to see the very first canonically queer couple I've ever shipped get married and have a hard won Happily Ever After.

Pretty much every fandom I have ever been a part of, I have ended up shipping two male characters:

Crowley/Aziraphale (Good Omens -- could be argued they are canon, but it's not explicitly told that they are so for the sake of this we are going with not).

It's always been a pipedream, though, to have two characters I love love each other.

Then one night this past March I decided to finally give Roswell, New Mexico a chance while bored and lonely at home, scrolling thru Netflix. I went into it not knowing there was a canon gay character.

The very first time I saw Michael and Alex on screen together, I remember thinking, "Yup. That's it. That's my new ship. I ship them. Don't care."

The next time they were on screen together, I actually sat up on the couch because, omg, their dialog was making it sound like they really could be gay and had been a couple at some point.

And then, this scene happened...

And I am not kidding when I say I fell off my couch flailing and screaming and fighting back tears because OMG THEY ARE!! THEY'RE GAY!! I DON'T HAVE TO PRETEND THEY LOVE EACH OTHER, CUZ THEY ACTUALLY DO!!! And this was the pilot episode!

From that moment on I was hooked. I was so happy to finally have a canon queer couple!! And weirdly enough, they led me to some introspection of my own and made me realize that I myself am queer and that if I were ever able to/brave enough to transition that I would be gay.

I haven't been able to come out to many people except for on here because I know so many people in my life would react badly if I did (i.e. my family and even though I am 36, I do still currently live with them and I'd rather not deal with the fallout while under their roof). But slowly I have been trying to change things -- switching to Old Spice deodorant and bodywash, wearing guys shorts and flannels and pants, giving ambivalent answers to anything referring to me as female. Whatever I can do to make myself feel more like me without drawing too much attention to myself.

But tonight I get to watch my Emotional Support Queers get married. And for me that's like a confirmation that love wins. That even if your blood family hates you for who and what you are (Alex's dad forver hating him and thinking less of him for being gay, despite everything Alex did to try and prove himself worthy of love and respect from his family), it's okay to be who you are. There are people who will and do love you and support you no matter what. I will forever be thankful to these two characters and to the beautiful, wonderful, talented men who were brave enough to portray them so convincingly that for the first time ever I even found myself shipping the actors themselves. And I will also forever be grateful to Tyler Blackburn especially...who didn't finally find the courage to come out as bi until after he got the role as Alex...who was scared of coming out even into his 30s because he was afraid of how his family/father would react. Maybe some day I'll be as brave as him and be able to come out officially.

Thank you Michael Guerin and Alex Manes for being so stupidly in love with each other even while trying to move on and be with other people, you were always going to end up with each other because you're cosmic soulmates. Academic:

Languages - Ever since early Highschool, I adored all languages! I currently only learn German and Spanish, but if I could I would learn French too. My dream is to be at least tri-lingual!!

Maths - I think since I was young I was always good at maths, which I'm very grateful for. I think my favourite type of Maths is probably shapes in triangles or something like that, though algebra in general is fun :)

Accounting (ik ew) - In the beginning I found it difficult, but the more I learnt the easier I found it. Sometimes it's nice just sit and do numbers and nothing super creative.

Non-academic:

Gaming - I love gaming with all my heart. I think I've always been interested in games since I was at least 9 or something. My current favourite game is probably TF2!! I started playing in 2019 and haven't stopped loving it since (although the a lot of the playerbase can be toxic)

Drawing - I'm not the best at drawing, but a sketch now and then always helps me, especially when I want to make a new OC! I also like sketching up outfit ideas for me to try out later. I usually draw fem people, since I'm not that good at drawing masc people :(

Writing - Of course I love writing! I started writing 'x reader' fics when I was on Wattpad then moved to Tumblr!

Playing piano - I'm self-taught so I'm not that good, but I still enjoy playing simple tunes now and then. I'm currently learning 'I Giorni'. :)

Swimming - I don't take classes, I just enjoy relaxing in the water. Sometimes it's really nice just to immerse yourself in the water and not make a sound, you know?

Star Wars: Clone Wars - It's an amazing show with great characters and visuals! I definitely have it as one of my hyperfixations... Ah, Saiura. When I first started out in this fandom, I was convinced I’d never touch a single Saiki ship. And then I stumbled across one of @thetroninator ‘s fics and everything changed.

Saiki and Aiura make a legendary couple if you really think about it. I’m fond of opposite personalities when it comes to ships, so these two are just neat. Aiura’s outgoing and carefree personality is such a fun juxtaposition to Saiki’s closed off and exacting one.

I feel like there a lot of people who could speak to the strengths of this ship with much more eloquence than me. There’s a lot of things to love about them, but if I’m completely honest, I do heavily prefer them as friends. That said, I won’t say no to a good Saiura fanfiction.

I said they’re terrible for each other because they remind me of my grandparents they have a lot of differences that I imagine would result in some nasty fights. They’re both strongwilled and prideful; not a good combination. But I think they’re such interesting characters that I’d even be interested to know what happened when things went awry. And I don’t think either of them would be the type to leave if things got rough. At least up to certain point. If anything, I think Aiura would be first to leave, surprisingly. I think she has more self respect than Saiki.

Despite the fact that I think this ship wouldn’t end well, I still think it’s one of my favorites. They’re my children. 💖💛

But to be honest, it’s really more the idea of them that I love; AiTeru in canon has a long way to go, since I’m not convinced Aiura knows she likes girls, much less Teruhashi.

The reason I said I like them more platonically is because well… every relationship starts somewhere, right? I think they would need that start as best friends. I’d read a slowburn acquaintances to best friends to lovers fic about them… I’d read any content about them. I’m starved for prominent female characters in fics. As their relationship stands in canon, I don’t ship it. (I ship it a little… onesided AiTeru where Aiura is clearly crushing on Teruhashi is great. I take it as canon.) But in fanon? Yeah, there’s a lot I’d love to see happens between these two, but it would take a lot of time and dedication and skill writing romance, the last of which I have big fat 0 of.

When it comes to what their relationship would be like, I think Aiura and Teruhashi have a mid tier level of compatibility. The issue is, they are both strong willed and stubborn, and unwilling to compromise in a lot of cases. This would make the ship more interesting, but it would also mean hurdles in their relationship. However, I think they are both capable of acting reasonably. If they could learn go get over their pride, especially Teruhashi, I think the ship could work well. I think Aiura would be the one to initiate things, as she is more honest with herself (and more likely to come to the realization that she likes Teruhashi more quickly) and generally more assertive, because she doesn’t spend nearly as much effort worrying about her image. Therefore, she’s free to behave as she sees fit. I think that Teruhashi would admire this quality, but it would also inevitably grate on her nerves that Aiura stops to consider things so little. At least, until she learned to be more comfortable with herself. I think the Teruhashi of later chapters with more character development (after the chapter where she decides to stop memorizing her male classmate’s personal details) would be more likely to get through the adjustment period.

After that? Literal power couple. Lesbians of highest esteem, to be honored (and slightly feared.) Women across the globe would know their names as many things, including fashion icons (of course.) Maybe they would become famous and influential politicians who eventually landed seats in the UN.

In conclusion: Ship AiTeru!!!

I have seen alot of posts about respecting Female OC’s throughout my time here and as someone who has exclusively written female OC’s since 2012 on tumblr I really wanted to share some very specific situations that I have encountered over the years.  

Saying that we should all write with female oc’s is one things and its great but I really dont think people understand the extent that this can get to. I know I’m not the only one either.  

Writing with female OC’s is great and let me be clear- I have a lot of great partners and have written with wonderful people over the years but these are specific things that I’m sure others have gone through.  Please be aware that female oc’s are not here for your males or cannons.

- I have been told that if I dont write with their oc as well as the characters we were already playing, they would drop our threads.  

- I have been told to write males for my partners and make characters for them even though I only write females because that is what I like.  

- I have created a 67 year old male cannon’s profile (Barely) and gotten more memes/ starters/ shipping requests then my established OC’s have ever gotten....just to see what happened.  

-I constantly have to thread the needle on if I should tell someone I ship our characters or not.  

- If my girl is even remotely flirty I have been instantly dropped.  

- If I am out for a week I have been dropped, even if I tell people I’m going.  But if I ask if they got something from me after months, I’m disobeying rp rules by ‘nagging’.  

- I have been told because I play with ones persons cannon I have to ship with every writers version and have gotten chewed out when I say they are different.  

- I have had an ex partner tell me I’m not allowed to ship with anyone else but then that they were shipping them with everyone but thats okay because they are cannon and I should just be happen they would write with me at all.  

- I have had someone tell other people not to play with me and send Anons to people that I’m writing with ‘warning’ them about me when I said that my character wasn’t interested in one of theirs.  

- I have been told my girls are generic- even though all of them have been around for at least 4 years and have multiple head cannons and back stories which are each in different fandoms with different up bringing, abilities, family lives, ect.  

- If I ship too much my girls are sluts.  If I dont smut, they are prudes. 

- If I write with more then one of the same fc (Even if they are totally different characters or even another OC) I have been called thirsty.  

-When I have set boundaries with people- well, a variety of bad things happen.  

- My OC’s have been used to make other people jealous.

- I have been told that my OC is ‘ooc’ but...I made them... If my character grows then I am changing them.

- I have been told that I should just be grateful anyone is writing with me at all cause they have so many choices.  

- I once answered an ooc meme-anon about being ignored the wrong way by saying that sometimes it does hurt to feel excluded or ignored/ its a natural reaction and was instantly blocked by someone I had been writing with for years. 

- I am supposed to forgive even when people keep doing the same things.

- OC’s are supposed to write with everyone who will have them.  We aren’t allowed to match writing styles or we are being snobby.

- If you post the mean anons or call people out for sending them- you are being the dramatic one- not the person sending them. Classic victim blaming.

- I have been told to kill my characters and than myself on Anon but then gotten shit for ‘not being able to take criticism’ when I turn Anon off.  

So yes, there are very specific situations in here but I also guarantee they have happened to other female muses.  It reflects a lot on how we view females in the world as well and kind of is a feminist issue...which is disturbing considering the demographics of this activity.  As women we should know this and alot of the stereotypes about female OC’s are the same that women deal with all the time.  Dont be too slutty but not a prude.  Dont flirt but also dont be frigid.  Be independent but also where is your partner.  If you want a kid you’re anti feminist but if you dont you’re limiting.  Be pretty but dont look like you’re trying.

 Just writing is not enough.  We need to be treated with the same respect.  I’m not writing this to make a scene or call anyone out.  I’m saying this because its happened and it is the reason why the RPC has thinned out so much.

Isn't it sad to see that fans that ship NH or SS always seem to define the ship keeping in mind only the female characters? I know you ship Naruto with Sasuke, with good reason, so do I. Because I want the best for both of them, I like both of them and try to understand both of their natures and motivations.

Almost like a Pity Love that needs to be reciprocated...

In SS, their story goes like... “Sakura, despite not having a background of a powerful clan.... She wanted to become strong... She is very intelligent to the point of clearing up Chunin Exams’ Paper Test without copying... She cleared the Tree Climbing Training with flying colours by BEATING THOSE BOYS... All she did was to love Sasuke truly and unconditionally. It may be her mistake but she is loyal to a fault. She wanted to save him at all costs... She cried over him... Despite Sasuke went through the Darkness, she never gave up on him... Sasuke was suffering from the heavy loss of his Family and Sakura was the only one to give him everything he ever wanted... He must be so lucky to have her by his side...”

These are the clowns who spouts shits like, “Sakura deserved Better”.... “Hinata is Strong... She is not a damsel in distress, She deserved better...”, “Kishimoto screwed her up... despite having lots of potential”, “Sakura could beat Madara”.

In this case, they think that they saved their man from the Darkness even though she don’t have any obligation to... She went out of her way to help a lonely soul and helped him out all along the Journey.... To them, this kind of Narrative excites them because they are some self-centered Assholes who think that the entire world revolves around them.

I agree SNS was all about being equal in EVERYTHING.... If One lacks in something, then the Other compensates it... This is their entire dynamics... 

And after all, Bond is something where 2 different people have a connection... It’s nature may be anything. Be it Friendly, Brotherly, Parental, Romantic... You name it. But when it comes to bonds... Isn’t it supposed to be, ‘I Like both of them, I understand why they do what they do and hence I Support this Bond’ Instead of, 'My favourite Character love this person... Plus compared to other viable options, this person is a lot better and hence I support this Bond'

But I see some SNS fans ships SNS, but like only one person while disliking or hating the other person... Am not saying they are wrong or they are not True SNS fans or something... If only he didn’t give his time of his day to Naruto, N wouldn’t even exist.... Naruto some times don’t understand Sasuke and the way he shows his care was strangling to S... He kinda mildly harasses Sasuke.. He didn't care that much about S because he beat Sasuke into Submission and Sasuke loves Naruto so much so that he went with his plan in Chapter 699.”

Ooooffffff..... Man!!!! I can’t even understand this logic. They ship him with Naruto out of Pity and also because they have this ‘Overtly Self-Inflated Ego & Narcissistic Tendency’.... 

Their whole point is, ‘Look how Naruto was obsessive about Our Handsome Boy Sasuke... He always makes people go crazy about him’.... But when you go and Trash Talk about Naruto to them, they won’t defend him at all.... I’ve seen it multiple times and I felt extremely annoyed...

I literally saw an SNS post where that person interpreted, "We'll die together" as something Naruto warning Sasuke that, "I'll Kill You".... Their twisted Meaning is, If Naruto wants to bear the burden of his hatred, why is Naruto telling that they will die together instead of telling, "I'll bear the burden of your hatred and die for you"??? Why should Sasuke has to die too???.... 😑😑😑😑😑

It shows they totally hate Naruto and ships Sasuke with him because he is better than Sakura.

When it comes to Naruto leaning SNS'ers, "Naruto was always right... Sasuke was the one who never listen to him and put Naruto in a vulnerable situation... He is too toxic for N because he tries to kill him multiple times. Naruto is too good for Sasuke... S never cared about N".... 🥴🥴🥴🥴

I understand Sasuke is the Anti-Hero of this story and his actions are designed to be subjected to criticism, no matter what... But under the context of SNS, Sasuke’s actions are pretty self-explanatory. Yes, He threatened to kill Naruto multiple times but unlike with Sakura, Karin or Kakashi where he tried to kill them like pests... He always gives N, a warning and all Naruto has to do was to give up... Sasuke has every right to do what he wants and which path he should take on.... He is not obligated to travel in Naruto’s path all the time... [[I am clearly aware that Naruto’s path was the right one]]... If Naruto values Sasuke so much and he wants to stop Sasuke, then he has to undergo certain pain as well... S can oppose N and viceversa.... Inside a Bond, there will always be conflicts, difference in opinion, arguments and Pain.... Just because S oppose N... it doesn’t mean he is Toxic or Bad... 

I don’t know, Man!!! I can’t understand this POV either.... This is totally absurd.

If they hate Naruto & Sasuke that much, then why are they shipping Sasuke with him & Viceversa??? 

Well, Their classic answer would be... ‘I can ship my favourite character with whoever I want’... Well, I was like, ‘You can ship whoever you want with anyone. No Problem... But your biased opinions are NOT the true representation of this Bond because at the end of the day you are projecting yourself too much... It’s as simple as that”

But regardless of all these differing opinions... I must agree that Only this part of the fandom has the best understanding of their Bond and the Narrative as a whole. There would be varying interpretations... Yes... But there won’t be any laughable delusion or dishonest write-ups.

I just want to rant a bit about gram's storyline and outline why I hate it for reasons other than me shipping gramblack and therefore wanting it to happen

Gram was removed from the gang/the main plot. At this point I'm left wondering what he even contributes to the gang/the plot anymore. If you cut his character out from the show, the story could literally remain exactly the same because all of the other characters' individual storylines tie into the main plot/the other main characters' stories but his doesn't and just feels like a waste of screentime. Sometimes it's fine if individual storylines don't connect to the overarching one, IF they serve some other purpose, such as character development for the individual in question, but this is not what's happening in Gram's storyline so... It's just taking away from potential scenes we could have of Gram with the gang so we could actually see more of his dynamic with the various members. For example, I still don't know what his relationship with Sean is like. (I mean, have they ever even spoken to each other outside of talking about the mission??) And what's his role in the gang? Just to... be there? Bring them food now apparently?? Idk, considering that he was kind of an outlier when we first met the gang (in the sense that everyone else was hostile and he was a ray of sunshine in an otherwise grim environment), I thought maybe his importance to the group was in the fact that he got along well with all of them and was therefore a mediator of sorts (one part of the glue holding the gang together) but nah, they didn't go in that direction. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We barely even see him with the whole group anymore.

Assassination of Gram's character. He really went from someone fun and nice and funny to... whatever he's turned into now. Some annoying guy that's just chasing after a girl (his supposed best friend's ex at that) I guess? The reason I say "annoying" is because all of his scenes apart from the gang (which is 99% of his scenes now anyway 💀) have just started to grate on me at this point. I really don't want to be irritated by him but what the show is giving us is making it hard for me not to be. He legit used to be my fav character at the start but everytime yet another gramgene scene comes onto the screen I'm just like "ugh, not Gram and his bullshit again 🙄" Thanks for making a character I loved my least fav member of the group now I guess. 🙃

Assassination of Eugene's character. I cannot tell you how much I loved the fact that Eugene rejected Gram's advances and told him "I just want to be alone right now" as a reason. It's just so rare to see a female character get over a breakup by wanting to be single (usually they just move on to the next guy, rebound or not). Her line about not wanting to be just some chick that chases after a guy because it's pathetic was so good. I loved what they were doing with her character but then today's preview came on and it was just more gramgene bullshit. I don't want to judge anything yet because previews can be misleading, so I'm just saying this as a hypothetical, but: IF she gets together with Gram next episode, then... What was the purpose of setting her up as an individual whose worth isn't dependant on having a boyfriend? Why say she wanted to be alone if it's only going to last a whole two episodes (mere days in the timeline of the series)?? And if she rejects Gram again instead... Why are you dragging her into this again when she already rejected him once? It's just redundant and she deserves better. I commend them for wanting to give female characters more screen time and more of a story but if that story is just about a guy, then I'd rather not have it because that ain't it, chief. 💁🏻‍♀️

I fear that by this point no matter which direction the show goes into (whether Gram really is just in love with Eugene and there's nothing more to it, or whether it ends with gramblack somehow), they've screwed up Gram's storyline/character enough that I'll just be annoyed/disappointed either way (one way more than the other, but still).

It's just such a shame because I love this show for so many reasons and I love most of the characters, but they really screwed up Gram's character for me. It just sucks when you love like 90% of a series and then there's just that 10% that's so disappointing it sours the whole thing for you somewhat. 🙃

So it looks like the MCU has decided to celebrate Pride with some disgustingly blatant queerbaiting and homophobia. How unfortunately on-brand. Mike Waldron, the head writer of the Loki series, sat down with Vanity Fair and had this to say:

One love story to keep an eye out for is brewing between Hiddleston’s god of mischief and Owen Wilson’s TVA bureaucrat Mr. Mobius. The two spark and spar, building on the duo’s chemistry from Midnight in Paris. “Mobius and Loki, that’s one of the love stories you might see in Loki for sure,” he says. “Although if you print that, knowing our fans, they’re going to take it the wrong way.” When I clarified that their love story might be more akin to the platonic one between Tom Hanks’s FBI agent Carl Hanratty and Leonardo DiCaprio’s con man Frank Abagnale Jr. in Catch Me If You Can, Waldron says, “Exactly. Right.”

What do you mean by the “wrong way” Mike? Would you say that if you were talking about a male and female character instead of 2 male characters? Oh right. No. The reading would only be “wrong” in this case because that would be queer, and you clearly think queerness is disgusting and wrong and a joke. I’m sorry. Assuming that by “love story” someone means...a LOVE STORY is perfectly reasonable. If you know people are going to make that very logical assumption why would you refer to it that way? Oh right. Because you wanted to bait the fans. But then also mock anyone for picking up on the bait because to you queerness is “wrong” and a joke. How dare people assume you mean “love story” when you say “love story” about two characters, one of whom is canonically queer (which I’m sure now is going to get erased)?! This is both egregious queer baiting and extremely homophobic. 

He knows exactly what he’s doing. Guess he’s trying to one-up the queerbaiting in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I mean c’mon. “It’s a love story. But tee hee! Some silly people might think that means queerness. And that would be wrong and icky!” We already had the Russos queer baiting stucky fans in a very similar way, and then in IW and Endgame Steve and Bucky didn’t even get to talk for more than 3 seconds. I mean. Really. Why say “love story” otherwise. Only to clarify it’s like Catch Me if You Can. What?? Catch Me if You Can isn’t a love story; it’s a movie based on the true story about a financial conman and the FBI agent in charge of tracking him down. They did later become friends after he went to prison. But it was hardly a love story. and it’s certainly not presented that way in the movie. 

Furthermore, his disdain for the fans is palpable. Clearly he thinks “knowing the fans” that of course these 2 characters will be shipped just by virtue of what? Both being male and being in the same space? That’s not what shipping is about. People actually choose their ships for a reason. And they care about the characters. That’s why depending on the characters every ship dynamic is different. People are usually drawn to ships because they are interesting and emotionally compelling for one reason or another. If you look at the popular MCU ships they’re between characters that had compelling interactions and emotional arcs with each other. But sure. Let’s just turn it all into a joke, assume these characters will be shipped because they’re near each other, and bait the fans while mocking them and reiterating how gross and wrong you think queerness is.

Also. From what we’ve seen from the trailers, Mobius and Loki’s relationship is absolutely NOT a love story. I’m not saying you can’t ship dark ships. I certainly do. But that’s not love in a positive sense. That’s why dark ships are called DARK ships. They’re about obsession or toxic romance or power and control or all sorts of dark things. And that’s not what he’s getting at here. He’s using it in a positive sense. He’s calling it a love story (presumably a platonic one) while also queer baiting fans. But. Where??? 

We’ve seen Mobius be nothing but absolutely awful to Loki. He has quite literally not treated Loki decently once in any of the trailers. We’ve seen him silence and mock and denigrate Loki and show him 0 compassion or understanding or respect. We’ve seen him hurt and frighten Loki - the one trailer that actually leaned into this had the best moment of any of the trailers because Mobius is a great antagonist and when they utilize him as such it leads to actually emotionally compelling drama. I mean, already twice in the trailers he’s quoted Odin directly. How can they have him do that and then not take advantage of those parallels to make him into the perfect villain that he could be? Also, Mobius is part of the organization holding Loki captive and enslaving him. How exactly is that a love story??? Nothing Mobius has done has been loving at all. Calling it a love story validates that mistreatment. 

Why would I want to ship this in a positive sense??? I want Loki to get as far away from Mobius as possible, preferably after wiping the smug look off his face. Mobius is awful to him. And it doesn’t personally appeal to me even as a dark ship either. There’s no real complexity to their interactions or reason for me to want to see a romance - either dark or otherwise - explored. Mobius is Loki’s annoying, grating jailer who he just met and who so far has not gotten a single thing right about him. The assumption that every fan would see this trailer and just go “squeeeeeee!! SHIPPPPP!” is really insulting and denigrating. 

Waldron really seems to dislike Loki as a character and to dislike the fanbase because it is full of exactly the kind of people he so obviously despises and looks down upon. Why was this man given the chance to write for Loki? Imagine if we had a writer with professionalism and empathy - like Russel T.  Davies - at the helm. 

Given Waldron’s obvious disgust for the concept of queerness I’m sure he’s either erased Loki’s sexuality or has turned it into a joke. Happy Pride from the MCU I guess.

I don't know if I'm just a lesbian but I have to let you know I adore how you draw women. I love how you guys depict girls and some top notch depictions you guys have done off of the top of my head are Maria Gorey, Toph, Maki, Mikasa, Annie, and Canary.

I don’t know how to say it without sounding arrogant, but we genuinely try our best to do our favourite female characters justice: to explore different scenarios with them, to give them comfy outfits, etc. Especially when the title has fun female characters for once, we better appreciate it lol I literally feel blessed whenever we watch/read SnK or JJK because the girls over there are gorgeous and have complex personalities and relationships with each other.

Katsu actually gives me prompt lists specifically for the girlies sometimes, but unfortunately I haven’t finished any of these… I really hope to do it one day though, they’re really good, and I feel like we can create a lot of unique things with them. Edgy, scary, funny, all kinds of things that we usually do with our boy ships.

Acotar 5 is going to be one hell of a book. If you have the patience and resistance, I’ll tell you why.

‘Sorry to interrupt this short-sighted ship war, but has everyone ever stopped one second to think about how fascinating is going to be next acotar book, what the premises are?

Objectively, there’s no way that acotar 5 is not going to be Elain’s book. No. Way. She’s our next heroine, and I know that not because I want her to be, but because there’s evidence. In acosf, in SJM’s words, in the plot’s evolution since acotar 1. And, let’s be honest, the fact that’s totally predictable is the actual reason why is definitely going to happen. We’ve known two sisters out of three, now it’s time we know the third. Finally.

Are you not excited? We literally don’t know Elain, apart from what and who other people think she is. The fact that these people happen to be her sisters doesn’t mean they always guessed entirely right about her. And, not only she’s worth knowing because she’s a person in her unique way, she also owns powers that are unprecedented in the acotar universe. Why can’t you be excited to hear her story, who she is, what she can do? Can’t you see the Potential, El-haters?

Ok, let’s be honest again, we read Sarah’s books mainly because she writes breathtaking romances, but I read her books also because I love fantasy, and because I love strong, powerful characters, the ones that make me scream how COOL is hanging out with fictional people instead of the real ones. Elain is a seer and that’s freaking cool.

Now, I don’t want to talk about personal convictions, so I’ll try to keep this canon. What’s canon? It’s canon that Elain and Azriel feel attraction towards each other. Elain wants to be kissed that night after solstice and, well, Azriel wants slightly more than to only kiss her. This intense solstice night is going to be acknowledged in Elain’s book. Sarah can’t possibly throw this bomb at us and never talk about it ever again. She also said “one book, one couple”. From acosf, we know that there’s going to be Elain’s POV, the female protagonist, and the male’s POV.

Less canon but, still, obvious to me: I truly believe that POV is going to be Azriel’s, not Lucien’s. I’m sorry, I tried to analyse that in the most rational, objective way, but elucien is a sinking ship, in every sense. Because after all this time Elain still feels obliged to be with Lucien in order to not disappoint anyone and Lucien feels obliged to claim her as her mate because of a biological imperative.

That leaves Azriel as the ultimate love interest for her. Assuming Azriel is going to be our next male protagonist, can you imagine we are finally going to know his deepest thoughts? He is always been the most enigmatic and hermetic character of the bunch, and now we finally have the chance to truly know him, and not only guess or fantasize. What are the powers of Thruth-Teller, who gave it to him? Who’s his mother, what relationship they share? How did he overcome his 500 years unrequited love for Mor, what are his wishes for his future? Oh, I bet you do see his Potential, don’t you?

We know Elain from acotar 1, but do we truly know her? We know Azriel from acotar 2, but do we truly know him? These are two of the most interesting, intriguing and mysterious characters of the entire series. And we are going to know them very soon, hopefully. I cannot wait!

I guess the message I want to spread with this post is: be excited and grateful guys, because one of our favorite writers is going to give us a book that will surprise us, I’m sure.

Gwynriels, Elriels, Eluciens, only one of us will be right at the end of the day. The concretisation of one ship or the other doesn’t depend from our sheer will and desires, but from Sarah’s. Our personal convictions and all these inflamed (at times destructive) arguments are only a way to waste time and interior peace while we wait for the book. But we should always remember what we seek from the books we read: stupor, enthusiasm, knowledge, not frustration and hate.

Treat people with kindness, always.
