New headcanon:
Goku's hair doesn't get all downward-soggy in the shower, it just gets kinda like...a slightly-more-floppy version of the nonsense he has goin' on.
Vegeta, on the other hand, comes outta there lookin' like a goddamn water nymph. I'm talkin' ✨TRESSES.✨ I'm talkin' "shampoo commercials wish they could capture this look."
The first time they're in a situation where Vegeta steps outta the shower like, "OK ur turn," and goes grumping away to grump somewhere else, Goku's brain does a record scratch, and then the gears lock up, and then it just explodes like somebody shot a rocket launcher at a fireworks factory.
The fireworks burst into the sky to spell out, in glimmering radiance, "I WANNA FUCK THAT DUDE."

Some of the strongest characters I’ve ever seen in TV art/entertainment haven’t even been live-action portrayed characters but anime characters instead.
Specifically talking about Dragon Ball/Z/GT/Super.
Like the whole point is accumulating more and more power. Physically evolving in strength and ability.
Like that’s the premise and concept of the entire thing. Yet the way it’s written for the most part does not make you feel that their strength is enforced. It’s built up in writing so well that that’s just something that happens regardless and it’s not the heart of it.
You see this all the time. Practically every episode.
Tumblr media
But at the end of the day… it’s not this what tells you that these anime warrior characters are truly strong. Rather it’s what they’re fighting for that is what does. That’s what makes it heroism and not just warriorship.
Tumblr media
So you can have all the supernatural physical power and strength and ability you like for your characters. Just don’t make it the all or the only thing about them. If an animation that’s focus is on the accumulation of power can get this right, then why can’t live-action?
It really is just poorly thought-out and careless writing because I’d argue no human at all would want to see any humanoid character that’s just an empty shell of a person. That may as well just be a programmed robot.
In fact even robots have more personality in DBZ.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I think I’ve said enough now. I’ll leave it here.

Ok, so life's been crappier than usual individually and collectively.
This is why I'm indulging myself in Dragon Ball nostalgia, but with a new lens (gayer). The hype returned with everything after I read about Akira Toriyama's passing, of course.
I have stayed away from my childhood favorite animation since...my childhood. Despite charismatic characters, excellence in imagery, and groundbreaking shonen paradigms, we all know Dragon Ball isn't and isn't supposed to be a intricate narrative.
That doesn't mean it has not its many qualities and charms.
For quite a while, because of other works of art in animation and other mediums I've encountered, the downsides of DB and DBZ universe stood out to me. Particularly, the lack of development and agency of most female characters of the cast, subtle racism (the black-faced character, if I recall him properly), and all the sexual insinuations and assault from Master Kame and even our beloved Bulma (in the former case, I blame it on bad writing decisions).
However, Dragon Ball's many issues don't ofuscate the brilliance of the saga's special, inspirational writing moments. Toriyama was and will always be a pioneer, and a Sensei to learn from, while we keep on being aware of its critiques and issues. In other words, I'm going to enjoy my thing in a critical way, but allowing myself to be enthusiastic again for a thing that started my nerdy life and to which I never imagined to go back to.

I got Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot yesterday, played it a bit, went to bed
today I've decided I'm going to get and read all the comics because this media has been living in my mind rent free and clicks so naturally with me I want to just know more and then continue the game later
this is such a weird experience for me even Batman doesn't hang around this intense this long
maybe I finally found myself a new special interest after I physically stopped being able to do my last
I can only hope, it really feels off not actively having one anymore
tag for it will just be dragon ball universe so I got dragon ball, dragon ball z, and whatever else plus the games and fan stuff all tidy. I am so hyped
