Hello! Welcome. Have a look around. I encourage horniness on main, don't be shy!
I am a librarian by day, and am currently dipping into freelance work doing a variety of things - editing, beta reading, research, writing, general bookishness. My DMs/ask box are open, or you can email me at [email protected]. Check out my ko-fi, my most important blog post of all time about how to buy books anywhere other than amazon, or my affiliate page on bookshop.
If I reblog ask memes, I promise I always want your ask!
More about my blog under the cut
Common tags for things I post and reblog a lot about, for you to either dive into or block:
Kuroshitsuji Grell sutcliff Nsfw Nsfw text Ecology Plants Books Writing Gpoy My writing My fic Libraries witchcraft history of medicine history
Spouse tag (I'm married to @/rain-shoshana who is an artist and author, so you'll probably see me reblogging a ton of their stuff. if you like Poirot or Sherlock Holmes fanfic, mushrooms, or historical costume illustration, their stuff is for you!)
Gremlin register (@/lululeighsworld and I are frequent collaborators and always screaming in each others' mentions so the variety of posts here is wide)
Monoc (a current original fiction project, full working title is Monoculture. It's a historical fantasy, set in the 1880s in Germany and England, about queer witches, the dangers of colonial imperialism, and working in true harmony with the land)
Potf (other original fiction project, less developed, short for working title People of the Forest, about three truly terrible queer assholes who are coworkers and also toxic codependent lovers. Some as-yet undetermined theme of community and decentralized power. Very horny. It's a mess)
Catholicism (this one is very personal to me, and mileage will vary for you, but rest assured I believe that Catholicism has always had room for a lot more queerness and variety of devotion and/or interpersonal love than modern american practice and communities would have you believe. I also fully believe in the literal practice of communalism that the early church embodied, and I think for a true vision of catholic social justice to be achieved, capitalism must be abolished. you'll find a lot of hagiography and death in this tag as well)

Generally speaking, if you think of yourself as an anti, we're probably not going to get along.
You can find me on ao3 as thislittlekumquat as well!

that's one fine-looking manuscript you've got there
tl;dr: if you've got a book in the works, I want to proofread and/or edit it; I'm good at what I do, and because I'm building a new business from the ground, my rates are on a sliding scale that will put a Slip'n'Slide to shame; message for deets; trust me, I'm more scared of you than you are of me.
This isn't a pitch. (Although I never could resist a douchey post title.) This is just me reaching out to fellow writeblrs, with a so-informal-I-had-to-blur-my-zoom-background offer/request.
If you have a manuscript in the works, I want to proofread and/or edit it. Maybe you're planning to self-publish, maybe you want to score a small press, maybe you want to pitch to agents. Heck, maybe you're book-binding a fic and want it to be as shiny as it gets! Whatever you're planning to do with your book and whatever your budget is, I want to help.
I'm starting my own business as an independent editor. It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time, and last week, my steady freelance writing gig of eight years folded in the scope of one afternoon due to corporate shenanigans (yay, capitalism!), and I figured: if I was looking for a sign, that was it.
I'm a good writer, and also a good editor. I have an eye for detail, an ear for language, and a butt for staying in the chair until the job is done. Also, thanks to my deep roots in fanfic, I've got a ton of skill points in characterization, voice and the ability to match a story's style and vibe.
I've been writing and editing my own and other people's work for the best part of 15 years now, but because a lot of it was ghostwriting, putting together a portfolio is going to take some time. Having an editor or proofreader credit on a handful of titles that are finished and out there would make a world of difference: which is why, if you take a chance on me at this so-early-it's-still-late stage, you'll get a very low price, very good service, and a fiercely loyal word wrangler on your side for years to come.
This is where I should sign off with an enthusiastic call to action. I've tried a bunch and deleted them all. I know you're supposed to project confidence at times like this, but I've written way too much marketing copy in my day, and being fake on the page makes me queasy. I like being honest, and the honest thing is, I'm trying something I've wanted to do for a long time, and I'm excited, and also scared. Starting a new thing is hard, but I know I can do a good job if a handful of people give me a chance. So if you're one of them, message me, and I will treat your words with the care that they deserve. I am a writer myself, after all. I know words are precious. I know stories matter. I want to help you tell yours.
Thank you. 💛

Updated 10 February 2024
About
I've been editing in a non-professional capacity for about five years (usually volunteering to edit other writers' work), and I passed The Publishing Training Centre's Essential Copy-Editing course with a Merit in early 2022. I'm an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading.
As well as being an editor as the "day job", I'm also a self-published author who writes in the SFF playground. I genuinely love editing, and I especially want to work with fellow self-published writers, whatever the genre and in whatever capacity your writing is published. Full details about my services (and my non-editing ventures) are all available on my website, along with testimonials from previous clients.
Services and Rates
I provide proofreading, copy-editing, and sensitivity reading services. There's more detailed information about what each service entails on my website's editing services page.
The rates are:
Copy-editing: typically between £0.01 to £0.02 per word
Proofreading: typically between £0.008 to £0.01 per word.
Sensitivity Reading is £20 per hour (for d/Deafness, sign language representation, and autism)
My usual editing niche is fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry. This includes short stories/short story collections, poems/poetry collections, illustrated children's books, fanfiction, memoir, genre fiction (novels, novellas, etc), and personal essays. I'm fine with editing erotica and horror, and can work in any age range from children's to adult. If you're unsure, just ask either through my askbox here or via work email – advice is always free :)
I'm happy to do a sample edit for free (usually about 500–2,000 words or the first chapter, depending on the type of project). The usual payment plan is 1/3 upfront and the remaining 2/3 on completion, but there may be some flexibility depending on the type of project.
If you're interested, email [email protected] or fill out the contact form on my website. If you're considering for a later date, or even if you're not interested at all, a reblog would be super helpful in boosting my services <3

hello friends! ya boi is in desperate need of some extra cash to fund moving apartment costs. So in the hopes of off-setting at least a tiny bit of those costs, I'm opening up editing services!
By default, my editing will be a mix of line-editing for spelling/grammar, and development edits for ensuring your piece makes sense from an outsiders perspective.
Happy to read anything other than erotica.
Turn-around will depend on piece length, but I will try to have them returned as quickly as possible.
Prices are 1$ min for each 250 words in your piece.
Want to help but don't have anything you want/need edited? I'll make you an edit or moodboard or banner or whatever for your story!
Payments can be made through my Ko-fi!
Absolutely willing to edit longer pieces/full novels! Please reach out to talk to me about payment beforehand!
Whether commissioning editing or donating for a graphic edit, either DM me here on Tumblr or message me on Discord (#cataclysmicqueer) to give me more information on your request.
Even if you're not able to/don't need to commission, just boosting this would help tremendously!

[Image ID: dark text on pale background saying 'I still ate'nt dead'; a quote from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett]
Hi, kiddos! Your favorite owlbear hasn't fallen off the face of the planet. (Nor, despite what my feed may suggest, have I permanently fucked off into the Hazbin Hotel fandom.)
I have, however, spent the last few weeks helping family members move, hanging out with adorable niblings, and moving my own shit into my own freaking home after twelve years of renting. (Home ownership, bitches! Hold my avocado.)
While I'm still unpacking / recovering, I'll be making my way back into writing, so watch this space for:
- the Don't Starve Rhack AU
- more Jack/Meg drama (leading up to the plot point re: 'second wife bolted')
- progress on my novel inspired by the Fallout Rhack AU!
P.S. Did you know I offer proofreading and editing services geared towards neurospicy creators? Well, I do. Hit me up if you're interested!
P.P.S. You probably already know that I finished Lost and Found (the Atlas timeline, anyway), but just in case you missed it: yeah. I did that. 😎

Hey. Hope you're doing well. Wanted to ask you, are you still doing freelance editing? Cause I want to write a book and I will need an editor to help save me from myself.
I am, and I'd be so happy to help with that!! If you DM me I can give you the rundown on timelines and prices.

Editing Available
Writers! Alas, my house has been hit with a multitude of car troubles beyond the comfortable capacity of my bank account. Please hire me. I have an MFA in Creative Writing and have been editing for 13 years now. I especially love working with science fiction and fantasy, but I am comfortable with a very wide range of genres.
Here's what I can do for the current low low rate of let me know what you need and what you can afford and we'll see what we can work out, because right now I am a little desperate:
Developmental Editing - I look at the big picture plot and character and story stuff. I read your manuscript through twice. The first time to just react and see where it's all going, and the second time to look for ways to fix any issues. ("This bit in Chapter 10 solves an issue I had in Chapter 1. Let's move some things around.") I will leave comments as I go, but also give you a write up fully explaining my thought process and suggestions. Once you've had time to read it over and think about it, I'm more than happy to talk you through it all and answer any questions via email or Discord voice or text chat. (I like text because then you've got everything written down.
Line Editing - All of your plot holes have been closed. All of your characters are acting in character. Now my favorite part, taking a closer look. At this level I will be going over word choices, dialogue, descriptions, and grammar. I use Chicago Manual of Style for my style guide and Merriam-Webster for my dictionary, but we can also work out anything specific to your work. The most important things, to me, about grammar are clarity and internal consistency. Again, I do two read throughs. On the first one I will catch all the standard stuff and make suggestions. But I will also make note of anything that may need to go in a style guide specific to your work. This is usually especially important in science fiction and fantasy works as you do worldbuilding. I will reach out about any decisions you need to make and then do a second read. You'll get back the edited manuscript as well as a style guide. Again, I will be available for a chat to answer any questions.
Proofreading - This is it. This is the last step of the writing and editing process. One last read through to catch any grammar* that might have slipped through the cracks, or new problems that may have been introduced. (Did you use find and replace all? You definitely need one more read through.)
I prefer to edit in Word, but can work in Google Docs if needed. You can contact me here on Tumblr, or through MoxieFurious at Gmail.
*One note on grammar. It can be subjective. Often the rules for English are more malleable than people think. This is where I fall back to clarity and internal consistency. It's also where having someone with a degree in writing comes in handy. I can recognize the difference between a sentence fragment for effect and a sentence fragment because you accidentally dropped a word. In fiction we play with the building blocks of writing, and that does not always directly adhere to the standards of academic English.

What proofreading / copy editing / line editing looks like (when I do it)
Disclaimer: you may have different idea of what each of the three entails. But in my editing services, this is what you can expect from each tier.
Below is a snippet of my own writing (with errors introduced for the sake of this experiment), subjected to proofreading, copy editing, and line editing, respectively. This way, you can decide what level of involvement your manuscript needs.
Original:
Tumblr media
Proofreading:
Tumblr media
As you can see, I fixed punctuation, grammar and formatting errors, pointed out an erroneous word choice, and flagged a possible continuity error. Beyond that, the text remains untouched. If you don't want any (and I mean ANY) interference with your writing style, this one's for you.
Copy editing:
Tumblr media
This time around, in addition to the proofreading pass, I tightened a few sentences, suggested a more evocative word choice, and pointed out where the scene's flow could be made clearer. If you're looking for a light-touch edit, that's the one.
Line editing:
Tumblr media
This is the most involved level of editing I offer. In addition to everything in the previous tiers, I flagged a detail that didn't 100% make sense to me and could benefit from a brief explanation; made suggestions on tightening the prose further; and included several style suggestions to give a high-stakes moment more emotional punch. If you want me to really sink my teeth into your manuscript, and shine every diamond that's still in the rough, then the line edit option is for you.
