The incomparable @hookedatweiss got wind that I'd never had candy corn before and went to truely heroic efforts to send me some! Thank you thank you! 😍 I don't know why, but I expected the texture to be hard, but it's not! It's such a fascinating flavour - it keeps getting sweeter after you've eaten it. I got so excited I had to make a candy corn opossum 🧶❤️🌽
I can't properly put into words the amount of disgust that I feel seeing someone who looks like she could be my cousin fight for a genocidal occupational force like Israel but I will say this.
If you are Chinese, Korean, Japanese or any one of these Asian ethnicities that the West deem "acceptable" and you align yourselves with western-backed racial supremacy, you are making fools of yourselves. You have fallen prey to the myth of the "model minority" and you are suckers for it.
The premise of racial supremacy is based on exclusivity. And here's a dose of reality - the myth of the "model minority" is nothing but a tactic to placate you. To sow divide in the ranks of people of colour. To artificially manufacture another realm of racial supremacy in minorities so that you're distracted from how we all suffer under colonialism.
Did we all forget about the skyrocketing of sinophobia in the wake of the first COVID outbreak? The transformation of Chinese people into fiends with barbaric eating customs, poor hygiene, and mass conspiracy to infect the world with biological weapons?

What about the hate-crimes? The attacks in the street against anyone visibly asian? The rampant discrimination and ostracisation from society?
In 2020, Donald Trump referred to COVID-19 as "The Chinese Virus", "Kung-flu" at a campaign rally to raucous applause, a chilling echo of the times where fears of the "Yellow Peril" had the western world in a stranglehold.
For all that Chinese people have been lauded as "prodigies" and "well-mannered workers", the moment our existence was incovenient, were were nothing more than another target. And although Chinese suffering then wasn't close to the scale of suffering that Palestinians now endure, we all received a reminder on what it was like to be in the world's crosshairs.
Now, in 2023, Biden dismisses death tolls as unreliable and remains proudly Zionist even after Netanyahu described the genocide Israel is inflicting upon Palestine as the "struggle between the children of light and the children of darkness, between humanity and the law of the jungle." At the same time, Palestinians are being compared to fleeing rats in a gesture of dehumanisation that mirrors how the Nazis portrayed Jews during the Holocaust.

And let's not think Abigail's Jewishness will save her, not when it's been proven that Israel has administered contraceptives to Ethiopian Jewish immigrants without their consent. Racial supremacy is an exclusive club that never stops getting smaller, and there is nothing that you, as a minority, will ever be able to do to fit in. One day, you too will be a target and there'll be nothing you can do but blame yourself. After all - it's already happened.
So shame on Abigail. Truly. With the memory of knowing what it's like to be targeted for factors out of your control fresh in her mind, she happily fights to do the same to others. And that says more about her than I ever will be able to.
FYI just want people to know that the abbreviation of Omegaverse with and without the slashes is a very real world derogatory slur that has been hurled towards Indigenous Aboriginal Australians for centuries. I obviously understand not everyone is fully aware of Australia's history of institutionalized racism, genocide of traditional land owners and the stolen generation etc., but seeing the Omegaverse abbreviation everywhere is genuinely frustrating especially when people are ignorant to the actual serious implications of the word when put into a different cultural context.
EDIT: it should be noted that is also frustrating that people outside of Australia don't really know much about it's racist history (which is no fault of their own, hell even my education on Australian history back in primary school was abysmal and never mentioned the countless genocides the English settlers caused on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during colonization), but that's a whole other wider conversation - and even then you should be looking for Indigenous Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander Voices if you want learn about Australia's history.
The little penguin (or fairy penguin) of Australia is a brighter blue than its New Zealand counterpart. They don't usually travel far, but one population exists in southern New Zealand and sometimes they are spotted in Chile.
I've finished NAPLAN forever and I'm so happy so take a Good Omens thought:
Hell definitely accredited NAPLAN to Crowley, and he just sat there like "Thanks, man"
They gave him a commendation and everything cause it just fucking sucks that much, and Crowley isn't gonna say that it was the humans who invented it cause extra brownie points, y'know?
OK ANOTHER THING BECAUSE I READ THE NEXT PART… THE WIBBLES??? ;-; the wiggles I am only now discovering are in fact not a universal childhood staple… next thing your gonna be telling me you don’t know about playschool… lol
Playschool like... the educational institution?
I mean my brother went to playschool. I guess.
TW: uh, corporeal punishment at school, so proceed with caution.
My, uh 'playschool' made me learn four languages in addition to maths and environmental science at the age of four, those languages (thankfully one being english) used different scripts, at the same age of four I had midterms and finals of fifty marks each and a grading system from A to F, and when we didn't do homework we were hit with wooden scales on the palms until a centimetre thick 30 cm long scale broke after hitting a whole class of five year olds...
If you're referring to playschool like a show/band/anything else, then I admit that no, I do not know about playschool.
According to the Florida Museums, there were 120 investigated cases of human-shark interaction, with only 91 confirmed shark bites in all of 2023, 22 attacks being provoked. There were 14 deaths relating to sharks in 2023, and 10 of them fell into the unprovoked. The number of deaths was higher then average based on previous years, with the average being 6 unprovoked deaths per year.
Even with the increased death rate, dogs killed 55 more humans in Canada the the U.S alone during 2023. This of course makes sense because we do not have sharks living in our homes like we do dogs, and people have less exposure to sharks. Even with the statistical, there is more negative stigma surrounding sharks, many are afraid to even go in the ocean due to fear. However, even with that fear 82% of Americans agree that they are an important part of the ecosystem, even if 51% are afraid of sharks.
we should treat sharks with the respect that they deserve when we enter their home, because that's what we give to dogs when they enter ours.
This will be a sticker that will eventually turn into a poster, but for now, enjoy the sticker version :)
CARIBOU AND ANTLER FACTS
Within the Cervidae family, there is a phenomenon where they go through cycles of shedding and dropping their antlers. This process has always been fascinating to me from a scientific and a horror standpoint.
Caribou (Rangifer tarandus) are the only ones in the Cervidae family which also have antlers that grow and drop.
The antler growth cycle goes like this: The antlers start to form with a layer of velvet which houses all the nutrients to assist in the antler's growth. It'll take five months for the antlers to grow to their maximum size and once it has reached that size, the blood flow to the antlers will be cut off and the antlers will begin to harden. Onto the third stage where the velvet will begin to shed and expose the hardened antler which will at first be covered in a layer of blood, and these antlers will stay for another five months before dropping, healing, and starting the process all over again.
This does not hurt the animal at all and is a regular cycle they have to go through yearly.
Hey anyone living in Queensland Australia the government's got a survey out asking LGBTQIA+ communities what things we think should be prioritised to strengthen outcomes for LGBTQIA+ people in Queensland.
It should be noted that just last week they passed the Births Deaths and Marriages Registration Bill that recognises same-sex and gender diverse parents on a child's birth certificate and repeals the requirement to undergo sexual reassignment surgery to change the gender on your birth certificate (+ lets you change your name and gender at the same time in a two for one deal) just last week (14/07/23) so there's a decent bet that they will actually listen to what you tell them.
Also apparently QLD is trying to pass new hate crime legislation too so this is pretty important.
James hates drinking as much as he hates sleeping. He is an absolute light weight and would rather be the designated driver then the one throwing up in a taxi as the others are still putting there liver through how songs describe heartbreak. Sirius makes fun of it constantly, but when he does he can’t even get a full sentence out anyway, James feels that the insult doesn’t pack a big enough punch when he’s in that state.
Tonight, in the back of a crowded bar with too loud music, he is, you guessed it! Sober, but with company, really pretty company.
Regulus Black, Baby black, Regulus “Eyes that can fuck you to Neptune” Black, all of them work. Regulus was his best mates brother, he was the dude who always tickled his brain with imaginary I love you’s. James has fancied him since he was 16, now he’s 23 with a 5 year old and a degree in the lovely artistries of bullshit. It probably isn’t just fancying anymore. He still isn’t completely over him, maybe because he never got under him.
Regulus tolerates him, because he’s got a pretty face. At least, he pretends that’s the reason, it’s probably just because Sirius is his brother and my best mate. In James opinion, he would much rather be a pretty face than your brothers friend, but hey, que sera sera Y’know?
Today is the day to watch the boy of your dreams drink different cocktails you don’t know the names and giggling with not so perfect hair anymore, completely sober. Fuck his life honestly, he just had to be an arsehole in another reality.
I just don't think it's normal that you should need to break up private companies' monopolies on standardised testing. It seems very alien and dystopian that a profit motive could worm its way that insidiously into education. I really just think schools should be about learning and not companies trying to maximise profit.
I don't know? Maybe I'm just naïve. Is this an American thing?
