The sounds of cutlery hitting the plates and the wooden table caused your cheeks to flush more, a hand rubbing at your nape as you began to avert your gaze from the group. Wide eyes were staring at you, as if you said something that was a complete shocker. God, this had to be worse than actually fighting Titans.

"You're what!?" Sasha was the one that finally broke the silence, hands slamming on the table as she got up from her seat abruptly.

"And to who?!" Connie followed suit, slamming his hands down but instead hitting his dinner, gravy sauce going everywhere. His face cringed at the mess but he still stared at you with seeming horror.

"Guys, it's not that serious."

"Bullshit, it's not serious! You're dating—"

"—And it's not Eren?!"

Your body tensed up immediately, realizing that he was the only one that barely reacted to your confession, still focused on his dinner as his now long brown hair marred the side of his face. A part of you felt nervous not being able to really know what he was thinking, the other part of you felt worried. Jean slapped the back of both Sasha and Connie's heads, a scowl on his face.

"Knock it off you two! Of course she wouldn't date him, we're talking about Eren for God's sake."

They started bickering with each other and you tried to resolve it as always, but every single sound and word started to muddle together like his head was pushed underwater. His fist clenched around his spoon, to the point where he could feel the metal bend to the shape of his hand. You didn’t pick him. He wasn't as nearly surprised as the others, mostly because he had already seen it coming, but witnessing it come true was a pain that was utterly indescribable.

Out of everyone, they had to be some random civilian that caught your eye. Someone who doesn’t know the true horrors of the world out there, someone who never struggled the same way you and he did growing up. Maybe he'd be fine if you ended up with Armin or fuck, even Jean was a viable option but no. You went off and found yourself some guy who didn't come close to understanding you.

It didn't make sense, Eren's been with you since the two of you could walk. He was the one that saved you over and over again by those bullies that taunted you and Armin, never minding the fact that Mikasa had to save everyone at the end of it. He was your shoulder to cry on, especially after everything that happened back when everyone was still young scouts. He was the one who sacrificed everything for you. Everyone in the squadron knew that the two of you were inseparable, like two peas in a pod. No wonder everyone was surprised that you guys didn't end up together but the Paths denied him the end he sought out for years, even if he had only seen the flashing glimpses of the inescapable future.

"Er— Ere... Eren. Hey Eren!" You snapped your fingers in front of his face, his gaze latching onto yours immediately. You always had such a kind look in your eyes, he's glad that it never went away despite what you've gone through.

"Your spoon." He looked down and saw that he completely severed the metal utensil in half, the indentations of his fingers prominent in the silver handle. The others were looking at him, puzzled and confused expressions on their faces. He knew what they were thinking. Why didn't you take a chance?

There was no chance to begin with. Eren was on the losing side of the game no matter what.

"Must've forgot how to hold a spoon. Remember what happened the last time I held one like this?" He mused, placing the broken halves down on the table. The more they quietly stared at him, the more he wanted to run out of the room with his shattered heart pieces. He dismissed himself out of the mess hall, saying that he was exhausted. They knew that he wasn't but none of them mustered a word of any sorrowful condolences, his frame disappearing into the shadows of the hallway.

The pitter-patter of running came up from behind him and he felt the brush of a hand against his, heart pumping back to life as he recognized the familiar texture of your skin. Eren looked beside him and saw you, smiling at him like you had no clue what was running through his mind. Breathlessly, you asked him a simple question.

"Rooftop?"

He nodded, letting you lead the way for him. Rooftop meant that you wanted to talk in the spot that you found for each other back when you two started in the Survey Corps, a flat area at the top of the building where the night sky was all that you could see. The rules were that you weren't allowed to bring anyone else up there besides each other and that you weren't allowed to go there without one another. Eren wouldn't admit it but he did sneak there every once in a while, basking in the memory of you and him being young and slightly naïve.

"You're upset." You finally stated as you settled yourself down on the floor, an old blanket covering the rough ground.

"I'm not."

"I know you are, you get all awkward about it instead of bursting out your feelings." He grimaced, was he really that predictable as a kid? Eren leaned himself back on the edge of the roof barrier, staring up at the sky.

"Are you... happy that I'm dating someone?" He could hear the hesitancy in your question, curiosity and fear intermingling. His hands clenched against the concrete, the texture scraping his skin. If he knew that this is what you wanted to talk about, he would've avoided you like the plague.

He took a slow inhale.

"What do you want to hear, the honest truth or an honest lie?" Eren heard you stand up and walk closer to him, cautious hands grabbing his and pulling him towards you.

"The truth."

You've always looked so pretty under the night sky, the way your eyes reflected the stars and the way the moon shone down on your form. He never told you because he was so scared of ruining what the two of you have. This was nothing like what he felt towards Mikasa or Armin. You were special, you were his. Now that he knew what lies beyond the future, he should've said something before. Would that have changed anything now?

"The truth is, I'm not happy. There's nothing you can say that will change my stance about it." You frowned and squeezed his hands before letting go of him, your warmth escaping him.

"Eren, you can't keep disapproving every man I'm interested in."

"Yes I can and I will. You've always had terrible taste, remember how you liked Bertolt back in training?" You gasped in horror, hitting his arm.

"Stop! I never want that to ever be brought up again and I only liked him because he helped me out that one time with the chores," There was a flush on your cheeks, embarrassed about how you once was ever interested in a traitor. "But I'm serious this time, this relationship is serious."

In all of his years of knowing you, serious was never a word that fit you. Eren rolled his eyes, crossing his arms and leaning towards you.

"How long?"

"How long, what?"

"How long have you been seeing this guy?"

You started fidgeting your hands, your tell-tale sign that it's been a while and you're figuring out how to lie about it. You could never lie to him though, he'd always figure you out.

You finally sighed and relented, giving up on trying to say anything but the truth. "2 years."

"Fuck, so it was right under all of our noses huh?" His hand gripped against his sleeve, his voice almost shaking as he spoke. He thought that you trusted him with everything, whatever you tell him would be confidential. He would never snitch on you, he thought you knew that. Eren had to turn away from you because if he didn't, you would've witnessed the tears roll down his cheeks. He felt your hand against his back, slowly rubbing circles on his back.

He hated you. He hated the way you made him feel like a pile of mush. He hated how you pretended not to know that he loved you, not as the childhood friend but as the man who pined after you the minute he was able to comprehend what he was feeling towards you.

He hated your smile, that annoyingly beaming grin directed at him whenever and for whatever reason.

He hated your affection, how you pretended to truly care about him when you were off loving another man.

He hated your warmth, radiating like an everlasting sun and cheering everyone up as if you were a carbon copy of Historia.

With all the love he had for you, there was the same amount of hatred that came along with it.

Eren looked at you, turning his body towards yours and you looked at him. As if he was under a spell, he felt himself mouthing the words that he longed to tell you for years. Your reaction was unexpected, perhaps even completely expected. His cheek stung from your strike, your eyes big and wide as if a Titan just walked up in front of you.

"Eren, y-you don't mean that do you?" His hand rested on his cheek, his fingers digging into his skin.

"I meant every word," He uttered softly, suddenly grabbing your hands and pulling them close to his chest. "Do you feel it? I love you. I'll love you until my bones are nothing but dust, I'll love you until my lungs stop taking in air, I'll love you until the world falls apart. Please Y/N, I'm already forever yours. Will you be mine?"

There was only silence that came from you after his confession, the pounding reverb of his heart being the only thing he could hear. You pushed him away, a stunned and confused look reflecting in your moonlit eyes. He felt wounded, like you stabbed a blade even deeper into his chest.

"N-No, no. Eren, I'm already dating someone. You can't just say all of this now." Your hands gripped your uniform pants tightly, the fabric scrunching together. "You're too late."

He shakily sighed, pushing his hair out of his face. What he hated most about you was your ability to constantly deny anything that you didn't want to hear.

"I thought you might say that."

He was instantaneous, quick. You never reached the level of ability of being fast on your feet in sparring and you wouldn't ever beat him in it now. He pinned you down onto the old blanket, his hand gripping both of your wrists tightly together above your head as he rested himself in-between your legs. You fought back but he didn't budge, only pressing you harder into the ground. His other hand made quick work in removing your pants and undergarments, shoving your panties in your mouth to keep you silent. No one needs to know about the rooftop after all.

Eren's selfish, you've always known that he was. You just didn't know how deep it went, how his selfishness of what he had deemed was love for you dug in and rotted into his heart. You tried begging through the cloth, muffled and incoherent cries being the only thing that was heard. He clicked his tongue, dragging his thumb across your spit-slicked lips before giving you a light kiss on the side of your face.

"If I can't change your mind with words," Eren pulled back and drank in your partially nude body, admiring you as he watched tears form at the corners of your eyes. He placed his free hand over your mound, fingers barely inserting themselves into your folds, your body reactively shivering from his touch. "I'll fuck you over and over until you can think about nothing but me."

We do have some het ships, but they really are rare. We talked about it at some point, here are the posts: 1, 2. Katsu was kind enough to find them… But it was ages ago (3 years ago, in fact), so I’ll talk about it again!

It isn’t weird for us to ship f/m; and if the dynamic is our “type”, we’ll very likely to gravitate towards the said ship. A good example of one of our favourite het ships is Eren and Annie from SnK. They have a lot of features and elements of our favourite m/m and f/f ships: one is passionate, determined, stubborn and a bit dumb (due to being blinded by his own determination), the other one is quiet, snarky, a kind of depressed and looks unapproachable, but actually has a soft spot for the first one.

And the girl doesn’t always have to be the “passive” one, because a lot of our favourite het ships could be described as “a bossy woman/a pushover guy that complains a lot”. Like Jordan Sullivan/Perry Cox from the tv series “Scrubs”. So the guy bitches about how much of a Satan she is and how miserable she makes him, and he clearly knows just how villainous she could be, and yet for some reason the moment she stops torturing him with her attention, he is suddenly lost and confused. Basically, it’s either this, or the previous dynamic for the most part lol

If the ship is fun to play around with, we’ll ship it, even if it’s f/m. We don’t have anything against it in general. But we do have a bias towards f/f and m/m ships that is partially caused by the fact that our favourite dynamics are more likely to exist within those. And of course because the same sex ships are less likely to get canonized and therefore reduced to “happily ever after” in canon… which is something that we absolutely hate :(

And to answer your second question: Katsu isn’t non-binary; it’s just that the pronounces that we use are all over the place. It’s mostly due to the fact we use masculine form when talking to each other (and a lot of our friends) in Russian, mostly out of habit: a lot of people of our generation did (or still do) that either for the sake of sounding more neutral or because they used to roleplay male characters. I’m simplifying it a lot though; it’s kind of one hell of a can of worms that works differently for different people lol This is why you can really use any pronoun when talking about us, it doesn’t really matter that much. Katsu called me a “he” in one of the Nebula replies a couple of weeks ago lol and likes it more in general.

But technically Katsu and I are each other’s girlfriends. We can’t get married, so this status is permanent, but it doesn’t sound that serious, I guess.

And worry not, Katsu has heard your prayers… the other day we were actually shocked to learn that it’s been quite a while since we’ve posted anything fish-related, wow yikes! Gotta fix that!

The tapis rouge event isn't even over yet and I'm already wondering who they're going to choose if they decide to make an extra ssr card like silk Vil and applepom Jamil. Based on the group they have in this event, Floyd seems to be the most likely candidate. Maybe Ace and Jamil are feeling generous! I could also see Azul getting his hands on an extra outfit and just handing it to the tweels going "you guys can figure it out" and letting them decide. However, for some reason if feel like they’re going to pick someone from a different dorm. So Idia actually would be a great pick. I feel like it’s been a while since he had Non-Birthday SSR cards..? But actually! I believe we never really talked about things that you’ve mentioned, which is a shame, because this is such a hot idea. Saying goodbye to Idia sounds like something that Ortho would never want to happen, so he really might start modifying Idia’s body while he is still young. One day Idia is just going to wake up with his legs cut off, because Ortho suddenly decided that it’s time to start. Why didn’t he talk about it with Idia first? Well, it’s better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission, right? Hehe~

ATTACK ON TITAN COMPLETE REVIEW

Attack on Titan, one of the most iconic and legendary anime of all time has just ended and in honour of this I want to give a complete all seasons review on this blog. Attack on titan was the second anime I ever watched after Death note during the first lockdown. I caught up right as season 3 ended and was able to experience the pure excitement and hype that was the buildup to season 4, the first trailer for season 4 is still one of my favourite trailers of all time, displaying all our beloved characters as matured and serious and showing the insane war about to begin without giving too much away. For a time this was one of my favourite anime and maybe in my top Tv shows of all time but I will admit my passion and love for the show dwindled towards the end, especially in the final arc and I will explore this later. This is going to be by far my longest blog post so be prepared.

SEASON 1

Season 1 came out just over a decade ago now and despite only being 8 years olds during the time this released I am very aware of the absolute hype it created, breaking into the mainstream form early on and being constantly compared to Game of Thrones for its violence and shocking character deaths. I don’t know if this comparison is especially accurate since early seasons of Game of Thrones were slow and methodical, building up the characters and their dynamics before turning to action in later seasons whilst attack on titan’s first season can best be described as a non-stop roller coaster of action, gore and thrills. I am mixed on season 1 overall but can say its opening arc is incredibly strong. The first episode perfectly sets up the danger and terror of the Titans and introduces how cruel and dystopian the world is, watching Eren’s mum being brutally eaten alive. The worldbuilding is very strong in the opening act, illustrating to the audience the medieval life within the walls, the power of the titans and ideas the like scout regime. The series keeps up a great pace for the first 10 episodes or so, having the characters train up and become scouts then being thrown into their first real mission only for most of them, including seemingly the main character to be relentlessly slaughtered, the moment is shocking and emotional, watching the characters breakdown in fear at their unstoppable enemies. Then the story has the main character return as a Titan, adding a new layer of combat and worldbuilding, creating mystery as to how that won’t be explained till seasons later.

Some of the later arcs of season 1 however do slow down a lot and focus too heavily on the same shock factor of lots of new side characters being slaughtered in an inhumane fashion and having the main character lose, this is most evident with the female titans rampage against Levi squad. The pacing takes a hit in this section as there are long stretches riding horses or cleaning and living with disposable characters only written to die.

The standout characters of season 1 for me are the two Ackerman’s, Levi and Mikasa. Mikasa takes the lead role for a section of season 1 and establishes herself as a capable and badass whilst not being overpowered and still struggling, the message she takes from Eren on not giving up and always keeping fighting is awesome. Levi is simply cool exemplified, his stoic demeanour combined with his absolute insane ODM gear skill makes him an unstoppable monster. The other side characters are all quite weak admittedly, not being developed at all or having much of a personality besides basic traits like Sasha being hungry. Eren also starts as quite a weak lead, being a stereotypical edgy anime protagonist who screams the same phrases all the time. One final complaint I have is the twist of the female titan as Annie was the only viable character it could be, it felt like a very obvious and blatant twist.

The strongest parts of season 1 are the animation and the cinematography, the scale of the show is excellent, making the titans and especially the colossal feel terrifying and unbeatable. The framing of ODM gear scenes is genius, it is easy to follow and clear whilst being fast and chaotic. Overall ODM gear was a genius invention by Isayama, such a unique form of travel and combat.

SEASON 2

Between season 1 and 2 there was a 4 year wait which meant people’s expectations were very high and at the time many were disappointed with this season, it being very slow paced, only 12 episodes and no including certain characters like Levi, him only having a handful of lines. HOWEVER, I personally prefer this season to season 1. This season does have a slower pace but it feels necessary and useful as the characters it actually develops aren’t disposable they are important and likeable, the anime takes time to build up dynamics and romances.

There are lots of examples of this great development in the first half of season 2. Sasha gets her own solo episode where she is shown to be so much more then just comic relief, she becomes more heroic and brave, taking on a titan alone with just a bow an arrow, becoming a truly inspiring character. You also get a glimpse into her past and family which will get even further development later. Ymir and Historia get the most obvious development both being literal background characters with a couple lines in the training arc of season one are given their own romance sub plot that feels believable and subtle. They are both hiding a huge secret from the world, Historia hiding her real name and Ymir hiding the fact she is a Titan shifter just like Eren and Annie, they relate to each other, both being outsiders and both hiding their true selves. They open up and help each other as their romance blossoms, finally their dynamic is so successful due to their contrasting personalities, Historia being so kind-hearted and fun whilst Ymir is more aggressive and serious. The final characters that get lots of development in this season are Reiner and Bertolt.

Reiner and Bertolt are both likeable and dependable in seasons one, acting as actual friends to Eren when he is disliked in the training camp, they are joint with Ymir and Historia at the start of Season 2 on the same mission and their dynamic as a group grows as they are trapped in a fortress surrounded by Titans. You get a deeper insight into their desire to travel home and you get to see Reiner’s fear for being weak and useless despite seeming so physically strong.

Then you reach season 2 episode 6… one of the single greatest plot twists in media, on the level for me as the twist in Oldboy or Gone Girl. The reveal that Reiner and Bertolt are the armoured and colossal Titan is truly brilliant. Firstly, it is foreshadowed very well, for a start both characters have a subtle resemblance to their Titan, Reiner survived his interaction with the female titan despite everyone else being murdered, they are said to be from a different land then the others and in the episode before the reveal when the group is in danger Bertolt goes to BITE HIS HAND to transform, such a small but genius detail. The framing of this twist also makes it so much more memorable having the audience follow Hange’s conversation theorising how Titans climb the wall only to have Reiner admit he is the armoured Titan in an off screen line underneath her dialogue. This almost non-challant reveal completely disorientates the audience and makes them question themselves. The tension after Reiner admits his identity is palpable as Eren feigns being surprised as Isayama reveals all the characters around have already worked it out and are ready to strike. Reiner’s character is given so much depth in this scene as he admits how weak and foolish he is, how he forgot his mission somewhere along the way and genuinely began to love the scouts he was with and form real friendships, knowing he would have to betray and kill them, his reluctance and regret makes him such an engaging character. Then we reach the transformation as Mikasa attacks, slashing both their necks, not quite killing them allowing them to transform, Bertolt’s fear and reluctance to transform combined with Reiner’s now full conviction and commitment to betrayal is MASTERFUL, having a lightning swirl around them, even having a neat bit of animation where the screen flashes and their titan faces cover their own. The rest of this scene is just beautiful as the music YouSeeBigGirl sweels to a cinematic and dramatic crescendo, gorgeous German singing combined with a heavy orchestral song creates an unforgettable scene. This single scene alone puts this season above season 1.

There are two more moments that stand out this season, one being Eren’s speech about being useless and powerless, reflecting on how nothing has changed since his mother died, the voice acting is immaculate and emotional in this scene. Eren definitely improves in this season, his rage and pain towards who he thought were his friends is great, having no sympathy for them. The other character that becomes a standout in this season is ERWIN, leading the charge to save Eren from being kidnapped but having a Titan charge him, bite his arm and tear him off his horse only for him to only command “ADVANCE” to his troops, completely accepting the chance of his own death to save Eren, so cinematic and epic.

Admittedly season 2 doesn’t have the same ODM gear action or hype as season 1 but still having some very well-choreographed Titan vs Titan fights that focus more on grappling. My only problems with this season is the lack of some characters like Levi, important characters being completely sidelined, also this season relies on the next ones as it creates so many questions and mystery boxes meaning it can’t stand on its own as it feels incomplete and the ending is quite abrupt.

SEASON 3 PART 1

If season one could be described as humans vs Titans and season 2 as Titans vs Titans then season 3 part 1 is Humans vs Humans. This section of the story focuses mostly on the political worldbuilding within the world and explores the royal family and the power systems within the wall. The most interesting part of this arc is the moral implications, watching these young scouts matured be faced with a situation where instead of killing monstrous titans they have to kill other humans to survive is very engaging and a new spin for the show. This creates some great character moments like Jean being unable to kill another human whilst Levi is ruthless due to his childhood in the underground, used to the cycle of death.

The animation of ODM gear fight scenes definitely reaches its peak in this arc, most notably with both confrontations between Levi and Keeny squad. The action is so well-choreographed and framed keeping everything clear, the animation manages to stay detailed whilst being fluid and fast which is a credit to the impressive team at WIT. These sequences don’t even use darkening or shadowing to hide the animation as the quality is so good.

I am very mixed on the antagonists of this section of the story. On one hand I really enjoy Kenny but think his introduction is very underdeveloped having him never be mentioned before but suddenly appearing th first time Levi ever utters his name, it feels very forced and contrived. HOWEVER, he is a very interesting character, being morally grey and just working for the money rather then a personal stake which is unique for attack on titan. He also has one of the coolest ideologies of the show, the idea that everyone is a slave to something, very similar to Askeladd from Vinland Saga. The other antagonist is Rod Reiss, Historia’s father who doesn’t really work for me as a villain he is basically just insane, stuck in the old traditional ways and then turns into a giant titan that can’t even stand in the end, crawling to the wall. In theory this is a unique idea but doesn’t really provide for an interesting action scene or character. Overall this part peaks with Erwin’s trial and the moral implications created, allowing for new scenarios but still ending with Eren being kidnapped again and a slightly disappointing villain but some great final developments for Historia, giving her the closure of delivering the final blow.

SEASON 3 PART 2

I cannot understate my pure love for this arc. The Return to Shiganshina is easily the best arc in this anime and is one of the greatest arcs in Animanga history, up there with the Chimera Ant Arc, L vs Light and Eniess Lobby. It is the accumulation of the first three seasons, creating a perfect climax. Return to Shiganshina is split into two key parts, the climatic battle and the reveal of what is in the basement.

The battle is perfectly built up and cinematic, starting with the heroes plugging up the final hole in the outer wall, blocking out all the Titans on the other side, then tracking down Reiner and Bertolt who both transform as outside the wall the Beast Titan appears with a squadron of Titans around him, the arc splits into two distinct battles of Levi and Erwin vs the Beast Titan outside and the Main scout group vs Reiner and Bertolt.

The battle against Reiner and Bertolt is intense and thrilling, having a close fight between Eren and Reiner combined with the scouts new invention of Thunder Spears to take Reiner down whilst they try to stop the immovable Colossal Titan, having Armin and Eren trick Bertolt into exerting too much steam, killing Armin but allowing Eren to cover up the wall and sneak behind him to chop his nape. This section is an intense fight with lots of twists like Hange’s return with a missing eye and Reiner’s refusal to give up after being beaten over and over but the main focus of this arc is on Levi and Erwin.

Erwin’s final moments solidify him as my 2nd favourite character in the entire show, I will get onto my favourite character a bit later during season 4. Erwin and the scouts trapped outside the wall are faced with an unstoppable force, they are faced with inevitable death, there are dozens of Titans surrounding them including the Beast Titan throwing boulders and they have no gas for their ODM gear left. When faced with nothing but death and pain Erwin doesn’t stand down, he admits to his troops they will die but they can go out fighting for what’s right and they can die to save the world whilst distracting the Beast Titan, allowing Levi to sneak up on him and assassinate him. Erwin’s inspirational and courageous speech will always stay with me, his heroism and determination when faced with nothing but inevitable death is beyond inspiring. The final charge as everyone screams and shoots their flairs is beautifully tragic, having Erwin cry out his final lines, “My soldiers rage! My soldiers scream! My soldiers fight!” before being barraged with flying rocks, slaughtering them all. This sequence is just masterful in every aspect, the animation, the MUSIC, the framing, having Levi swing over the whole battlefield giving an almost ariel view of their charge, the storytelling and deaths it’s unbelievable and possibly my favourite scene in the whole show.

The show doesn’t slow down after Erwin’s death however, leading straight into Levi vs the Beats Titan. One of the most satisfying and hype battles in anime history, having Levi unleash his full rage and skill, completely destroying the Best Titan, taking out each part of his body one by one until he tears Zeke out of the nape. This is a moment that gives me goosebumps and still makes me tense with excitement each time I see it. Then in the same episode as this we see Armin’s courageous self-sacrifice and as all the antagonists are defeated we are left with an impossible choice, saving Armin or Erwin’s life as one can become the colossal titan which would bring them back. After half a dozen episodes of unadulterated insane action and hype moments this decision slows the anime down and allows the characters to shine again, all of them displaying their love for each other and posing the audience with a very difficult question of saving Erwin and his skills of propaganda and inspiration combined with battle IQ or saving Armin’s intelligence and tactics. ALL of this I have described is within the space of 3 episodes, what an exceptional series of episodes.

After this action packed emotional rollercoaster the story switches to the lore and backstory of the world, revealing there is life outside the walls and all Titans are actually just humans banished to this land. There is so much information revealed about characters identities and true motives and the audience isn’t given a chance to breath, reflecting how Eren is given all this information in a single moment, completely overwhelming him. This almost perfect season ends with the potential of a new country, a whole new world to explore, one that is more in line with the industrial revolution, something more contemporary and terrifying.

SEASON 4 PART 1

I am splitting season 4 into 2 parts, the Marley arc then the war for Paradis and the ending together so season 4 doesn’t end up having 4 different sub sections, I don’t want a subheading of Final season part 1 chapter 4. The first three seasons I believe have a clear progression, starting a simple action anime of humans fighting Titans then turning to Titans fighting Titans as the idea of Titan shifters and there being different factions is developed, then it focuses on humans vs humans building up the politics and governmental systems within the walls all th while developing the characters further and having them mature. Finally season 3 part 2 acts as an amalgamation of all of this, having all the leads fight against the threats from the very first episode and win as well as having seemingly most of the questions of the world answer… So where could the show go from here?

So Isayama decides to switch the perspective for a while, we spend time in Marley meeting the characters who live there, following Falco and Gabi, two children training to be soldiers and to become the successor of the armoured Titan. The worldbuilding for Marley is incredible seeing the blimps flying over and even the invention of automobiles. Gabi is a headstrong young child wanting to fight all the people on Paradis island, kill the so called Eldian devils, a perfect parallel of early seasons Eren. We see through the worldbuilding how Zeke and Reiner, two evil villains in the eyes of the main characters be treated as beloved war heroes in Marley, Isayama gives us a sense of perspective and greatly portrays how this story isn’t as black and white as we thought back in season 1.

Before continuing I want to discuss my favourite character… Reiner. At the start of season 4 we see Reiners struggle with depression and guilt, so many people he has known have died and he firmly believes he doesn’t deserve to still be allowed especially since he was never meant to be the armoured Titan to begin with. He is riddled with PTSD and tries to commit suicide due to his guilt and his inferiority complex. Reiner is such a tragic character who was forced to be a child soldier, to cause the deaths of so many and then to integrate himself into the scouts knowing he would have to betray them eventually. Reiner’s guilt comes to a crescendo in season 4 episode 5 where after the first 5 episodes of only being with new Marley characters, getting to know people like Pieke and Galliard, developing their dynamics and personalities Falco tells Reiner an old friend is waiting for him and Reiner is faced with Eren. This episode is perfectly suspenseful as we see a seemingly battered Eren with only one leg and eye question Reiner about why he did everything, ending with Reiner crying and begging at Eren’s feet for forgiveness due to his overbearing guilt and shame. Eren seems very composed and mellow compared to how he usually acts, so headstrong and aggressive. Whilst they talk above them is a huge political speech being delivered by Willy Tybur, where he berates the devils of Paradis and describes the evil they committed, his speech builds up in parallel with Reiner and Eeren’s discussion. In the end Eren forgives Reiner for everything, standing up to shake his hand, stating “I keep moving forward,” a calm and relieving ending until lighting appears around Eren and his eye glows and he states, “Until I destroy my enemies,” transforming immediately, smashing upwards through the stage in unison with the end of Tyburn’s speech where is roars out a declaration of war, creating a mesmerizingly cinematic moment that shows Eren’s new mercilessness as he instantly crushes Tyburn and eats him.

The next few episodes depict Eren rampaging through Marley, defeating the Warhammer, Jaw, Armoured and Beast Titans attacking him, tearing through them all whilst the scout regiment arrive and similarly slaughter the army of Marley. We see as Eren and his friends murder innocents and kill indiscriminately, causing fear and chaos, perfectly reflecting the fall of Shiganshina, exemplifying how this story is all about perspective and there are no goods or evils. The rest of the season focuses on Eren’s change and new mission of causing the rumbling and destroying all his enemies, killing everyone who isn’t Eldian. Eren’s change in character is very welcome as he becomes so intimidating and mysterious, much more subtle and calmly confident then ever before.

I’m not going to go episodes by episode for the rest of this part because there is a lot to unpack but I have some more general statements about this season. For one the music definitely isn’t as good in this season as for the most part it isn’t Hiroyuki Sawano, who composed such cinematic and dramatic music for the first three seasons, having a mix of heavy rock and metal with beautiful Japanese, German and English singing. The music composed by Kohta Yamamoto is still decent but reuses the same track of Ashes on the fire too much. The animation change is also a big debate in the fandom as the original studio handling attack on titan Wit passed the anime over to Mappa who decided to use more CGI for the titans and also use more realistic human designs for characters. I am not a huge fan of CGI but it is passable and I prefer the larger eyed designs of seasons 1-3 but the new designs help reflect the dark tone and the way the characters have aged.

Speaking of characters I find a lot of the newer characters introduced in season 4 like Yelena, Onyankopon, Pieke and Galliard to be quite lacking, they are decent characters but no one gets much time to shine and could’ve done with more, it kind of falls into the trap of having too many characters where they end up fighting for spotlight, having some of the old squad like Connie and Historia fade into the background. Despite saying that, one character who does improve a lot from his brief appearance in season 3 is Floch. He at first didn’t think he deserved to live in season 3 and expressed how important Erwin was as he was the evil devil they needed to inspire them to fight. The during season 4 he joins forces with Eren and the Yaegerists and takes on Erwin’s mantle of inspiration and propaganda, becoming the passionate leader. The way Erwin’s personality gets split between Armin’s tactics and intelligence and Floch’s comradery and extreme passion is genius.

THE END

I’m going to start with the positives around the finals arcs, I believe the war for Paradis is an awesome arc that stays suspenseful and has some amazing revelations and twists. It is action packed and keeps the audience second guessing where it is going to go. I found some of the deaths very impactful even with characters I wasn’t very engaged in, the two best examples of this are Colt and Galliard. Colt is barely a character and doesn’t get much screentime but has a very emotional death, begging Zeke not to scream and turn his little brother into a Titan, holding his little brother close and protecting him to the end. Similarly, Galliard didn’t have much besides disliking Reiner and Paradis but has such a memorable death: he sacrifices himself to save Reiner even after all their hostility and proclaims whilst half his face is missing, “I always was better than you,”.

All the stuff in the paths and travelling through time with Zeke and Eren is great, revealing the biggest twist in the entire anime that Eren actually manipulated his father into killing the Reiss family, starting all the main events of the current story, portraying Eren as a mastermind. This moment is shocking and horrifying and Grisha’s voice actor really sells it.

Despite the run from Return to Shiganshina to the War for Paradis being exceptional Attack on Titan really stumbles to its finish and I really lost my interest and love for the series in its last act, the last moment I really enjoy is Hange’s death, being fitting for her character and a dramatic self-sacrifice. Everything after her death mostly disappointed me so lets discuss the end.

To start off I hate how Eren’s character is handled, having him seem like nothing more than an angry child, some would say it is consistent with him in early seasons but I would argue he had grown past his immature ways by the start of season 4 and him turning back into a clueless child just wanting to kill everything is regressive and very inconsistent. It makes the Rumbling feel less impactful that Eren just murdered mist the population of the world for the sake of it. Similarly, I really dislike the Eren and Mikasa romance, I always saw it as terrible fan fiction and a weird ship some of the fandom perpetuated and having the show end focusing on how much Eren wanted to be with Mikasa just disappointed me, the panel of her kissing Eren’s decapitated head is terrible in my mind and made worse by Ymir. The founder Ymir’s character mostly made sense in her backstory until in the end it is revealed she actually fell in love with her abuse repulsive King, it just feels so cheap and unexplained.

I feel like the stakes were quite messy I the final battle, having Reiner, someone who has been weak the entire series fighting off dozens of Titan shifters from the past, some are even Warhammer titans who are so powerful with such an insane ability but are easily defeated, in general the lack of death in the finale is very distracting, especially for a show so iconic for its brutality and constant death. It greatly lowered the tension. Another problem this finale has is its similarities to Code Geass’ ending which is one of the greatest endings in television history and closes everything out perfectly, this feels like a cheaper and not as well foreshadowed or fleshed out version. There are a few good moments in the ending like Levi killing Zeke and his emptiness after it. But overall the ending really failed to meet my expectations and showing how the cycle of hate eventually continues felt unneeded, allowing peace for just a little bit would’ve been better.

This review has turned out much longer then I even anticipated I there is so much I failed to mention like how stellar the sound design is throughout the show, whether it be the Titan’s transformation or screams, the ODM gear or the thunder spears, everything sounds impactful and crisp. Overall, Attack on Titan has defined a generation of anime, it will go down in history as an incredible story with lots of twists, beautiful animation, amazing characters and perfect action but with a disappointing ending that made so many fall out of love with the series…

eren and jeans dynamic makes it look like its impossible for them to share a girlfriend but it actually? works surprisingly well?

arguing is kinda their love language in a very strange weird way. if theyre not fighting somethings wrong but their like constant bickering actually is rlly important to you three's relationship lmfaooo a lot of communicating is just eren and jean fighting and then you pick up on something they say and you three talk it out. plus its gets all their energy out at the end of the day... like when puppies run around in circles bc they didnt go on long enough walks

jean is the planner of the couple, always making sure you guys get tickets to see this that and whatever, always figures out how ur gonna get places and when everyone will be picked up, makes sure everyones schedules are free and that theres no big game release that you'll miss and eren doesnt have work and jean isnt volunteering

in terms of nerdiness jean is a decent middle ground between you (who says "ummm actually..." unironically) and eren (who thought dungeons and dragons was a kinky thing) because he lives with connie so he gets roped into playing stuff like rainbow six seige and watching battlestar galactica into late hours of the night. also he's an only child who was prone to boredom as a kid so he played video games like any other only child. that being said he has a more extroverted personality and aptitude for sports so he just never got as absorbed in it as you did

this kind of makes eren jealous tbh because he thinks jean has more to relate with you then him. but jealousy is like a natural feeling and despite his feigned reluctance jean is happy to share his knowledge with him.

plus eren realizes that what he lacks in video game and movie knowledge he makes up in anime bc jean is clueless on that front. once you went on this huge rant about how sailor moon would decimate goku in a fight and jean just goes "gokus the pirate with the fox spirit, right? hes trying to become number one pro hero right?"

speaking of eren eren and jean are on the same volleyball team (i hc they play volleyball bc theyre tall but i think theyd be cute on any sports team because im weak hearted) and you become their fave cheerleader <3 they look for you in the stands before each game and have their own little ritual for good luck. when he spots you jean jumps really high (despite the team captain, levi screams at him to save it for when the game starts) and makes a heart with his arms and blows you a kiss when he gets in the air and its so embarrassing so eren just dogpiles the embarassment but giving you an over exaggerated wink its the worst theyre gross

jean gets you into connie's discord server after you complain that people are really rude to you in online games and eren is quick to demand an invite too even though he literally plays nothing and has no idea how discord works. he will log in and ping you to show you a meme and even though connie's server is really chill with rules (like 10 ppl max, just some friends hanging out) he has always wanted to say "no memes in general" so he does it every time. you have to show eren how to use private messages once connie jokes abt eren being his discord kitten.

cuddle pile while watching movies... jean is a film buff so you three have movie nights rlly often. its usually you sandwiched in between them with jean behind you and eren in front of you so you can play with his hair. jean's movie taste is actually really broad and you and eren both find a ton of new favorites through him.

they both really like listening to you ramble. you can explain soooo much lore abt your fave series and theyre both really invested. eren is more invested in the characters while jean is more focused on what happens next, but theyre both listening rlly well and making sure you know they care. they kinda care in different ways though? while eren is just passionate and because he's so passionate he must know about all things you like, jean is either interested or just likes hearing your voice. of the two jean is more likely to give you short answers and he'll be more dozed off so he's good to go to when you just want to rant. eren is going to ask you more questions and get wayyy more confused so he's good to go to when you want to explain or flesh out your points.

jean finds eren's jealousy of fictional characters sooooo ridiculous. whenever eren is pouting about some new video game guy youre in love with jean is rolling his eyes because of course its eren jaeger he's just looking for things to get angry at. "what are they gonna do idiot, come out of the tv?" but then one day there's a character that looks a lot like eren and suddenly he understands everything. but he realizes you have a thing for guys with long hair. he'll keep the mullet around for a while

they both really like having you sat in their laps and (unbeknownst to you) in order to avoid conflict they created a system. cozy game? eren. reading? jean. watching anime? eren. watching something live action? jean. playing a game on your phone? eren. watching an analysis video for your favorite franchise? jean. just messing around on your computer? rock paper scissors, best of three. eren likes to hug you tight and rest his head on your shoulder while talking to you. when it gets quiet he'll nuzzle his face in your neck and give you small kisses there. while jean likes to put his hands under your shirt and rest it on your stomach while you two chat. he's puts his head on your head or throws it back depending on your height and kinda just likes letting his hands wander, like rubbing up and down your arms or tickling you lightly.

you: i hate this stupid game

eren: yeah babe that game fucking sucks (has never played it in his life)

jean: then stop playing it?

you and eren, at the same time: what? no.

all in all they are good boyfriends 10/10 would recommend.

I'm dropping yet another collab and this time it's to celebrate my blog anniversary! Yep, that's right! It's been an entire year since I dropped my first ever fan fic 'Playing With Fire' and it's been an incredible year since then! My writing style has grown and changed and I've created SO much writing since I started and my blog growth has been crazy. It's only my blogs first birthday so I thought first kiss would be a really fun idea for a collab. As always it's 18+ only but fluff, smut, DC, etc. are all welcome! How This Collab Works

So as you can probably guess, this collab has to involve a first kiss. It can be the readers first kiss, or whichever character you choose, or even both! But there must be a first kiss involved. Of course that can be the end of it, or you can choose the proceed into lewder territory after the kiss. It's up to you what you do with your story! BUT MAKE SURE THERE IS A FIRST KISS.

Can we please stop with the live-action adaptations of anime classics?

They never do the originals justice.

With the recent announcement of Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios launch and plans to begin production of an animated Avatar: the Last Airbender feature film later this year, do we really need that Netflix live-action adaptation anymore? Well, we really didn’t need it in the first place.

Before I continue any further, I should make the disclaimer that I am aware that Avatar: the Last Airbender is an American cartoon and doesn’t necessarily fall under the “anime” category. However, considering the show’s creators drew heavily on both the anime style and East Asian culture as a whole for inspiration, and considering the word “anime” is just a shortened version of the Japanese word for “cartoon”, I believe it is perfectly valid to lump Avatar in with the other shows I will be discussing.

After the well known disaster that was M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, many fans of the original series (including myself) were justifiably wary of Netflix’s announcement to create their own live-action Avatar: the Last Airbender series. The only saving grace that came with this announcement was the fact that the original creators would be working with Netflix to produce the new series. Updates on the show remained non-existent from 2018 up until half-way through 2020, when original creator Mike DiMartino made a blog post announcing the decision for him and co-creator Bryan Konietzko to leave the production, citing creative restrictions from Netflix. So far, this upsetting news has been the only confirmed updated on the series since it’s initial announcement two years ago.

With the departure of the creators, many fans have gone from skeptical to full on pessimistic about Netflix’s live-action series. Along with worries about how Netflix will tell the story of the Gaang, there are also valid concerns with how visually appealing the set and special effects will appear in a live-action setting. Production quality has come a long way since Shyamalan’s 2010 adaptation, but there is always something a bit off-putting about meshing real actors with fantastical worlds and creatures, as is apparent with criticism on shows as recent as The Witcher.

Meshing cartoon fantasy with real actors heightens disbelief

One of the beauties in using animation as a medium for story-telling is it’s ability to create other-worldly environments and characters that fully immerse the viewer in the magical setting of the creator’s choosing. But the constant push to make everything from Disney classics to popular animes into live-action films tells me that audiences have seemingly forgotten the value of a well animated show and would much rather see real people thrust into environments that highlight the unbelievability of all things magical.

Live-action adaptations of animes like Fullmetal Alchemist, directed by Fumihiko Sori, were impossible for me to watch for more than five minutes because I couldn’t get passed the fact that main characters just looked like cos-players running around an Amestris theme park, like how you see Potter-heads running around Universal Studios. Even with the understanding that it was a Japanese produced film, watching Japanese actors attempting to embody all the European qualities inherent to Amestrians, golden locks and all, made immersion into the story impossible. And while the CGI was well done, it still missed the mark in feeling believable, again because watching a real person use CGI alchemy to create a weapon just doesn’t hit the same as watching a cartoon character using cartoon alchemy.

Live-action creators never seem to grasp the importance of character ethnicities

The Fullmetal live-adaptation isn’t the only recent film to disappoint with it’s disregard to character ethnicity. The 2015 adaptation of Attack on Titan, directed by Shinji Higuchi, is also guilty of placing an entirely Japanese cast into a European world. Again, this would be forgivable considering the Japanese based production, but one would have to set aside a major plot point that is directly tied to the characters’ ethnicities. In the world of Attack on Titan, we experience the last survivors of humanity. Forced into hiding from human-eating titans, presiding safely behind massive walls, it is no surprise that diversity is non-existent. Except for, of course, the ever perfect Mikasa.

In both the manga and anime, Mikasa’s Asian heritage sets her apart from others not only in appearance but also in important plot points. If it wasn’t for her unique ethnicity, she wouldn’t have fallen victim to human-trafficking and therefore wouldn’t have formed an allegiance with main character Eren Yeager. As both the manga and anime have progressed, it has come to light that her Asian roots prove even more important than setting up a tragic backstory. But all of that is thrown out the window in a live-adaptation that casts all characters as Japanese, not even attempting to make Mikasa a different ethnicity to highlight the importance of her character’s arc. It makes one wonder if character development and story-telling were even important to the directors when creating their version of this widely regarded story.

While we have Japanese productions dismissing key plot points tied to characters’ Eurocentric ethnicities in Japan, we also get to watch Hollywood continue to whitewash Asian characters in adaptations like Netflix’s 2017 Death Note, directed by Adam Wingard. Here we have a classic anime, originally taking place in Tokyo with a cast made up entirely of Japanese characters, yet Netflix decides to change the setting to Seattle with a predominantly white cast.

If you want to make characters unrecognizable from their source material, just write your own original story.

As if changing that much of the original story isn’t enough, Netflix’s creators also felt it necessary to practically rewrite main character Light Yagami’s entire personality. In the original manga and anime, Light is a promising high school student with the academic potential to go far in life. His mature nature aids in his ability to smooth talk his way through conflict while remaining calm, cool, and collected. This basic personality trait makes the premise of him playing moral God and evading police interrogation all the more believable. Yet Wingard’s interpretation rewrites Light as more of a social outcast and awkward burn out, who delivers one of the most hilarious blood-curdling screams about ten minutes into the film- hardly the same Light that manga and anime fans would recognize.

Live-action adaptations have proven countless times, in numerous ways, that their visions are incompatible with their source material. Constantly providing a disservice to fans and critics alike, one needs only to look at the less-than-stellar Rotten Tomatoes scores for the films I listed above (Attack on Titan being the only exception for fan admiration).

In a time where shifting anything and everything to live-action seems to be the key money maker, it is essential to remember the riches that other art mediums provide. Animators and illustrators hold a magical key that allows viewers to enter worlds us humans aren’t meant to tread. With their various styles, animators are able to create fictional worlds that hold such beauty and magic, it seems almost too pure for the likes of us to actually set foot in.

Instead, we get to walk the worlds of Edward Elric, Eren Yeager, Light Yagami, the Gaang, and countless others (could you imagine if someone tried to sully the worlds of Cowboy Bepop or FLCL with such live-action nonsense?) from their perspective, in worlds unsullied by real human footprints.

So, Netflix, I guess go ahead with your live-action Avatar, but I’m not holding my breath just to be disappointed yet again.

MAIN HUB BLOG/SIDEBLOGS: My main roleplay hub blog is knightinsourarmor and I follow, send asks, and like from there. I currently have seven sideblogs, one for each of my muses. Todoroki Shoto (repressedkindness), Pro-Hero Todoroki Toya (hopelesslypersisting), Amajiki Tamaki (sunlitsoul), Novak Castiel (BNHA verse for SPN canon) (shatteredoptimist), Kambe Daisuke (unwaveringdetermination), Levi Ackerman (dreamsofregret), and Castiel (defectivesoldier). If somebody follows me on any of these sideblogs, I’ll assume they wish to interact with them. You don’t need to follow my main blog, but I suggest you do so. On my main blog I post ooc posts, muse updates, activity updates, memes, starter calls while any testing muses will be portrayed there. If I find you only follow my main blog… You either haven’t read my rules and my muses page or you only care for my ooc shit?

REPLIES: I want to study as a med student and have to work at the same time. That means that I can be really slow when it comes to replies. I wish you understand and don’t feel offended or lose your interest if I take some time to answer our thread. I believe in quality over quantity. Some days I might reply to specific people. That has nothing to do with you or your writing. I just might need to roleplay a specific matter or thread or enjoy someone’s writing too much and need to focus on that for some time. Not replying may also mean the exact opposite. That I can’t come up with a good enough reply compared to yours and need some more time.

MUTUALS/NON-MUTUALS/FOLLOWING: When I follow someone, I have read their rules, about and verses pages, and some of their threads. If someone follows me and I haven’t followed back in a week or two, that means I’ve checked their blog but I can’t find myself writing with them. Non-mutuals can send me asks, like my starter calls, and reply to my open starters. If after some interactions I find myself interested in their writing, I will follow them back. When I become mutuals with someone and if I am not on a hiatus or semi-hiatus, I’ll write a small starter to break the ice. Nobody is forced to reply to it.

AGE: I am over the age of eighteen. I won’t write with anyone younger than the age of sixteen. I am open to roleplay almost anything and this will be a free NSFW blog. I won’t roleplay anything which will be considered R-rated with minors, meaning anything that includes sexual themes, intense graphic violence, drug abuse, etc. but I am open to write most things if both muns are of age.

TRIGGERS: I tag the triggers my mutuals have on their rules/about page. A doc with all the triggers tagged will be added soon. If you need me to tag a specific trigger, feel free to send me an ask or a message. I tag triggers like: ’#tw: yourtriggergoeshere’ without the quotation marks. My own triggers are ridiculous ones, but I’d be grateful if you tagged them. It’s aliens and cockroaches. That’s the reason I won’t be writing with any roleplay blogs having alien muses (those having a disgusting non-human form).

TAGGING: I have a very specific tagging system. If someone doesn’t want to see a specific character or faceclaim (you’ll need to block the character’s name again) on their dash, I tag the character in both threads and fanart as: #|| (ch.) character name || . For most anime, their last name goes first, except Shingeki No Kyojin (Attack On Titan).

SHIPPING: I prefer male x male relationships. I am a little picky with female OCs because of bad past experiences. I do not mind age gaps as long as both muses are adults (p.e. Levi x Eren) but I will not ship a young muse with someone who is like a father figure to them (Aizawa x Shoto). I am very slow to ship, for the reason I like building a relationship through threads. If there’s chemistry, feel free to discuss shipping or like my shipping call.

SMUT: I will not write explicit sexual scenes anymore. For muses of age and muses with high sex drive, depending on the chemistry between our muses, the limit is foreplay. Most of my muses are asexual. For them, it is very rare to happen anything more than kissing and cuddling. I will fade to black. I do not feel comfortable writing detailed sexual scenes anymore, the only part that interests me is the tension and trust built between our muses and aftercare. Inappropriate language may be present for all muses.

DRAMA: I don’t care for any drama or witch hunts going around. If I see any on my dash, this will result in me soft-blocking or hard-blocking you. I don’t want to participate in any of these and I find them disturbing.

FORMATTING: I cut posts and use small text and icons. If my roleplay partner doesn’t use icons, I won’t use any myself.

MULTIPLE THREADS: I don’t mind having multiple threads with the same person especially if I enjoy their writing.

POST LENGTH: My writing style is advanced literate. That means I need more than a paragraph to roleplay with. One paragraph is fine still, but as long as there’s something interesting to reply. I don’t mind how long your replies are. Just take notice that I will probably mirror you and my reply will be the same length.

SELECTIVE: I am selective when it comes to writing. I need a paragraph or more to reply. I need to roleplay in third person and I don’t roleplay on DM. I roleplay on discord so if we are mutuals, feel free to ask for it.

MAINS: I have blogs/threads which I prioritize over others. This isn’t personal. I just feel more motivated to reply to those. I don’t have exclusives.

TRACKING/REMINDERS: I usually track my threads with an app but it takes a lot of my time. I try to use a tagging system even if it doesn’t work as well as I want it to. Don’t be scared to remind me to reply to something I might have forgotten. I could possibly forget to add it to my tracker but constant reminders make me lose my interest in the roleplay (if there’s any). I understand and appreciate for someone to tell me I have forgotten something. Myself, I will remind someone of our thread after two months or even more.

TIME-SKIP: Well, I’m someone who can enjoy something that is slow. I am pleased with anything as long as there’s some really good and inspiring writing (how many times have I said this?). I can keep a thread for years (and I have) and not be bored of it. If you start getting bored we can time-skip but I’d want to discuss this first.

DROPPING THREADS: Unless it’s a one-liner, I don’t drop threads. If you do drop one of our threads, I’d appreciate it if you told me.

ASKS: You are free to send an ic ask to all of my blogs. My main or my sideblogs, as long as you specify, I don’t mind. You can continue an ask I have answered. I actually encourage you to do so.

STARTERS: My open starters are actually open to everyone and don’t hesitate to reply to one if someone else already has. Then I’ll reply to another post and tag you. If I offer to make a starter and you accept and you don’t reply after a month, and if I have messaged you and you haven’t responded but you are actually active, sorry but no matter how specifically we have plotted our thread, I’ll assume you are not interested anymore and turn it to an open starter. I put some time into those and I don’t want it to be to waste.

CROSSOVERS/AUS: I really love writing AUs and crossovers. I enjoy the possibility of characters from other fandoms interacting with each other. I have crossover verses for some of my muses and more will be added in the near future. For characters from fandoms I am not aware of, I’d like to write with them on a modern verse or one both muns agree on. For those characters, I’ll treat them like OCs.

OCS: I enjoy writing with OCs, as long as they have enough info and our writing mesh well. For most OCs, our first thread will be one that our muses get to know each other for the first time. I’d like for them to meet as complete strangers and let their relationship build naturally.

ENGLISH: English is not my mother language. I have learnt English completely alone and it’s something that has been hard for me. I understand telling me if I have made any mistakes or ask me if you didn’t understand something but I won’t take any criticism.

MEMES/FANART: This is something I had recently started to be annoyed with. Please, do not use me as meme or fanart source. This goes for roleplay partners or not. Please, reblog memes AND fanart from the source.

Halo!anon submitted: June 4th 2018 I can’t help but imagine how tickling must play a part in other aspects of society in the accessor ‘verse, besides the sessions between master and accessory. So here’s some imagines and headcanons, with a touch of worldbuilding. (Warnings, besides the usual for this AU: death mention, reference to past trauma.)

- Among the high class, during parties and other celebrations, it’s seen as a common courtesy to string up one’s personal accessory in the center of the room and let the guests entertain themselves with them. Lord Castiel never does this with Dean, much to his fellow nobles’ disappointment; the mere suggestion had Dean quaking as things he’d rather forget came back to bite him.

- Every so often, a petty criminal(the poor man’s accessory, if you will) is placed in stocks in a small town’s square and left at the mercy of the very people they used to menace. What happens next usually involves honey, some sheep, and plenty of begging. A guard stands by to warn people, “No hurting, only tickling. Everyone please wait your turn, they’re not going anywhere any time soon.”

- Certain monastic healers perform tickle therapy as a treatment for anxiety, stress, and other “diseases of the soul”, as they call them. Balthazar himself proposed the idea, because of course he did. The rich usually indulge in this kind of therapy secretly, due to its undignified nature. Some contemplate the possibility of training accessories to tickle in the future, but it’s still a big taboo.

- Every town has a folktale about a tickle monster. Curiously, many of them involve controlling plants and attacking through dreams. The southern communities still have a giggle remembering that one time six years ago when Michael offered to hunt down one such monster and came back with Crowley, a sleazy drunkard with a fetish and a dream, sitting in a cage and wearing a mask.

- The Masters sisters, Lillith, Meg and Ruby, have a long history with law enforcement. Their favorite pastime is snatching unlucky merchants off the roads and tickling them into coughing up everything they have. Everyone is sure they had a hand in Fergus"Crowley" Macleod’s untimely demise by ferocious attack hounds, but they’re very good at covering their tracks. ~ Gabriel leads a furious rant regarding Prince Lucifer/Sam to Castiel, relating back to perhaps dealings he has directly had with the Prince between their two unstable-yet-truced Kingdoms. Castiel relates with similar views shared by Gehenna’s councilor(s).

~ Dean and Sam BM where the audience learns more about their homevillage. Dean starts it after a rather morose remark from Sam and ends with Sammy smiling and stealing my heart.

~ Balthazar helps Sam in several ways: 1) Learns the Sam was originally a psuedo-Advocates apprentice, as well as herbalist nephew when Sam identifies the components to some salves/medicines he’s making (he had been explaining what he was doing in an attempt to spare himself being attacked like the first couple times) 2) Calls Sam out on being intelligent and making a recklessly stupid choice by selling himself to find Dean. 3) Removes Lucifers mark. And maybe perhaps: 4) Allows Sam to assist in his own healing/medicine making under his careful observation, feigned as needing two sets of hands to do correctly and his assistant was running an errand, to assess his skills. 5) Offer he work in the hospice under him, apprenticing, should Gabriel allow his intelligence not go to waste. It’s not what Sam really wants to do/learn, but it’s better than doing nothing.

Dean's never been held immobile before so it's a new experience for him, but he ends up liking it. Cas notices how Dean relaxes into his hold after a minute or so. Cas doesn't fail to use this knowledge about Dean, coming up with teasing words and methods of ticking to make Dean all squirmy and giggly, taking special notice of how light tickles effect Dean even more than most other touches, using that specially designed soft brush meant to gently clean Cas' delicate computer chips.

Emo’s Top 10 MHA Characters and Why

1) Shinsou - (if you follow this blog and don’t know that already... kudos) Wow, where to start? To be honest, it really boils down to two things: a cool premise and good old self-projection. He’s more of a character prompt than a fully fleshed-old protag: he sparks interesting ideas. And for the second, I just relate to him a lot, especially the struggle with how people see me (even when they’re not actually looking).

2) Deku - My original fav till I developed the Shinsou obsession. Still love my broccoli boyo. Like Shinsou, I relate to him a heckin lot, especially the rampant a n x i e t y and the tendency to ramble endlessly about niche interests ;) As a general rule, I’m a sucker for the shounen protagonist stereotype, but I love Deku extra much because of his nerdiness and more emotional side.

3) Bakugo - Wow what an angery boi. Considering Eren Jaeger is another of my all -time fav anime sons, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I love Mr. Pop Rocks too. But he did take some getting used to, especially in the first season. Now he just makes me smile. Something about those outbursts of his make me smile. Maybe it’s the confidence I admire.

4) Aizawa - Dadzawa. What a protective badass. I’m a sucker for the cool characters that pretend not to care but actually care a whole lot. Also what a cool quirk, cool dynamic fighting style.. all that. Not gonna deny that he flat out looks like a hobo most of the time, but cleans up alright (I’m also ace as hell so maybe that’s why I’m not seeing what y’all thirsty allosexuals are seeing).

5) Eri - I love the potential this girl has! Arguably one of the most powerful characters, plus she’s such a cutie: such a lovely character design. She’s the closest we’ll get to a magical girl in this series. Actually scratch that. She IS a magical girl. She’s a fricken unicorn.

6) Uraraka - I remember someone asking me when I started watching MHA who my fav character was, and responding Uraraka on impulse. She’s such a badass! And despite clearly being geared as the ‘designated love interest’ she’s got her own independent development! And non-romantic goals!! What a concept!

7) Toga - I really started liking her with the recent manga chapters. I like how her arc explores the darker side of whatever the heck ‘quirk counseling’ is and how impactful that early development can be on someone’s life. Also bisexual vampire icon.

8) Kaminari - Sweet sunshine boyo!! To be honest, I didn’t really pay him enough attention until I started shipping him with my purple son.. but that made me appreciate what a cohesive character he is. I love how he’s equally friendly with everyone, no matter what.

9) Ashido - Alien Queen!! Gonna be honest here and say it’s mostly she just because fits my whole aesthetic: spunk, pink, breakdancing, a little 80s science fiction flair, and will not hesitate to punch you in the face.

10) Iida - Nyoom. He needs more love :) The second I saw him in the UA entrance exams I was like ‘man I hope this guy sticks around.’ And he did. And it’s great :)

“When the story stops sucking...”

Ok so you’ve probably noticed my lack of reviews and activity in general. Even the anime didn’t make me raise my voice more than usual lately.

I’m gonna make it short: my lack of activity on meta and theories is mostly due to a lack of passion and interest regarding the manga events. It’s been since April that I haven’t written anything globally consistent, and it was mostly because the chapters were devoid of an interesting topic to elaborate upon. Everything I wanted to say was scattered in my asks and I had no motivation to sum everything up.

When I first started this blog, I mostly held theories about what was going outside the walls, what were the enemy’s true motivations and how the story could end. Even after the dull battle that was RtS, there was still something to elaborate upon: who was Zeke? What’s going to happen to Reiner and Bertolt from now on? What’s located inside the basement? What is the truth behind the world? Back in the day, I was more passionate on character analysis and what lies behind their motives.

The first major ragequit I’ve experienced was two years ago: two of my favorite characters died for some cheap, unnecessary drama (that wasn’t that unnecessary when you analyze Isayama’s words). At that time, when the basement’s secrets were revealed, I was more interested in how things can turn dark on Paradis than attachment to what’s left of the characters, since my favorites were on the other side of the ocean, dead or dead inside. Still, the prospect of a dark Eren following the wrong path because he can ws interesting enough to keep me interested.

Then we’ve got the Marley arc. An arc I was more than happy to follow, with an exclusive point of view from the fighters located on the other side, a team which has my favorite and a bunch of kids I came to appreciate. Naturally I would deliver as I’ve always delivered up until a certain point. You had Reiner dealing with the pain and the guilt accumulated through these years, the interactions between the group of warriors, an empire on decline, Zeke’s questionable motives, Eren’s presence that will ultimately cast doom, not only on Marley but also on the rest of the world, including Paradis.

Then the SC came and things weren’t as interesting anymore…

It’s almost as if the SC’s reintroduction brought anything I didn’t want out of the series: we’ve got the same dull fights since RtS, the same plot-armored cast, the same sob comedy we had an arc ago and Zeke’s character who currently looks like an expy of Light Yagami and his 456138D chess consisting in anticipating everybody to accomplish his goals. The entirety of Vol. 26 was more a deception than a satisfactory volume.

We’ve transitioned from a geopolitical festival to a full-fledged battle with a twist at the end, as well as some flashbacks, and the whole thing was either dull or laughable. Let’s review this point by point to show you how disappointing this whole mess was.

The action sequence

To summarize the whole battle: Eren transforms into the Attack Titan, the Warhammer had him cornered, Mikasa saves him at the last minute, Jean and co. barge in and defeat the Marleyan troops, Warhammer has more resources but Eren can put two and two, Porco comes to Sister Tybur’s rescue but overestimated Paradis, Porco was saved by Pieck, Zeke comes in, Zeke has to act, Armin nukes the harbor, Porco gets distracted and fucks up, which leads to Zeke being captured and Pieck fucking up, as Pieck was about to be finished, Falco and Magath interfere, the kids hide Pieck, Porco fights against Eren but panics in front of the zeppelin, screw up and allowed Eren to use him as a nutcracker, Porco almost dies but is rescued by a suicidal Reiner, everybody boards up safely and fuck off from Liberio with Zeke, another titan power, and the last remaining cadets, one of them successfully killing a soldier who had death flags on her for a long time.

To be frank, I’m not sure how people can think it’s a good battle overall. On one hand, you have a bunch of soldiers in gear with titanium plot armor and on the other hand you have a team of warriors who need to be ridiculed through and through and pass for incompetents as Eren does his job without suffering any consequences during the battle. The most active, Pieck and Porco went from careful to suddenly disoriented, being put down by their enemies just like that, not making this fight even equal. It’s not even close to RtS’ sense of battle, where the SC was backed against the wall before returning the situation with crappy tactics. Here, we’re witnessing an emergency plan working rather well. Too well even. 6 deaths in total? Really? On the other hands, you’ve got Marley depleted from two more titan powers, Pieck’s panzer unit and a couple of soldiers.

Concerning titan fights, Porco and Lady Tybur held their own against Eren but were wrecked not so long after they gave their best. Porco in particular is a huge contradiction, who went from prideful (vs. Levi) to careful (to Pieck) to outright rushing everything (seeing the Colossus and seeing the blimp). It was a bit embarrassing on his behalf.

The battle also recycles some common elements that are quite tiresome to watch: Mikasa saving Eren when he’s getting backed in a corner, Armin’s basic plans -that nobody could ever guess-, always working while everybody acts like a clueless moron around him, Jean being contradictory… For an arc supposed to illustrate the divergence of the main trio, there wasn’t much to show except both Mikasa and Armin being disappointed in Eren’s actions.

Even the major deaths of this arc were neither shocking nor impactful. The most shocking deaths I can recall were Udo and Zofia’s because they were kids, but they weren’t painted as prominent characters in the cadet batch unlike Falco and Gabi. Next we had Willy Tybur, whose death was expected in the same chapter he died in, his sister, who had a fair chance to only serve as a placeholder to be eaten, and Sasha, who not only had red flags being painted all over her (killing the guards in front of Gabi, being the only one not wearing a breast plate), but was the subject of Isayama’s planned death (from Oita’s Q&A, March 2018). Sasha was already a non-character at this point, and him spending a whole funeral (when no other character got this privilege) was just plain obnoxious.

The characters

I’m still amazed -and not in a good way- by how bland the main staff became. Supposing it was remotely entertaining to make me root for them, my thoughts would’ve been something other than “Jesus fucking christ when will someone die already Gabi please shoot these fuckers”.

In simpler terms, Eren is by far the most entertaining character of the SC so far. While I understand the need to oppose Eren to his comrades in terms of ideology, his opponents are either uncaptivating or uninteresting to watch.

Armin is, of course and by far, the biggest offender. From the victim of Eren’s actions, he’s the one who opposes Eren’s individualistic views, but his character -or rather, his lack of- makes it hard to sympathize with. Simply speaking, a simpleton like him would’ve been better if he didn’t enjoy himself like an idiot after not only inheriting the CT, but also living at the price of Erwin. His unexplainable mastery of the CT at the same level than a natural like Bertolt, as well as a poor copypaste of the sad giant who never wanted this feels at the same time forced, redundant and bent over for the character’s convenience. The way a gary-stu would. To add more on the injury, Hange, the commander, passes as a complete buffoon in front of him, going as far as to praise his basic plans and compare him to Erwin. When you combine Isayama’s interviews and his position in the story, the way he comes off as a special snowflake feels unwanted. Even more when he got to live at the expense of two -potentially- more interesting and more popular characters.

In the end, we’ve got an amalgamate trying to narrate the story to Annie, who wasn’t seen for six years, but who was used as a confidence pillow. Considering Armin is a grown man who, in the end, chose to go with Eren and used gary stu nukes against Marley, am I supposed to sympathize with this? You know, it’s a good thing Armin tanked in popularity. His character was borderline insufferable in the former arc, and in this one, you just wish someone would mercy crunch him.

Fortunately Armin is by far the worst, but other members have their characters suffering post-timeskip. Special mentions to Hange and Levi. Hange either switched between the eccentric clown and the serious commander. While I’m ok with them being less competent than Erwin due to the pressure, they’re also a vet losing all their team members and yet displaying the personality they always did before timeskip. It’s no longer the squad leader specializing in research, but the commander, sometimes incapable to maintain a serious side, like when Yelena introduced the anti-Marley soldiers. While there’s a certain pressure coming from Zeke’s directives but also Eren’s decisions, their whole character is somewhat lackluster. Going from almost leaving the strategies to Armin to outright try and be friendly with Eren while he’s, once again, jailed, right after scolding him.

Moving on to Levi, while he held his promise for later I’m under the impression he became a meme without convictions more than anything. All he does in these chapters is threatening Zeke, which can be fun the first time but quickly becomes annoying, since we’re getting back in the old ways where Levi lacked development and was simply the clean freak, who also happened to be Paradis’ strongest soldier. He doesn’t have much usefulness in the story except being the sharp razor cutter of the group. Considering what Isayama said in the character directory it had to be expected, but it’s still annoying.

The character I’m feeling sad for so far are Historia and Reiner: Historia because she still doesn’t know what she really wants and bends again to someone else’s demands, even giving her body to fill the conditions of a potential savior, all at the expense of her freedom, pride and happiness. I’m surprised she agreed with Kiyomi’s conditions so quickly, however. Meanwhile Reiner was feeling suicidal up to the point of letting himself die. Had it not been for Gabi and Falco calling him, Porco would be dead. Still disappointed the volume didn’t end on his point of view. Besides, I was expecting him thinking about Bertolt during his coma, since Eren picking him up was similar to how Bertolt picked him up as they were kids. Yet another blueballing moment for Bertolt’s closure… Oh well.

Jean is more or less okay. His character is consistent, but he feels to much like an underdog in comparison of other characters who have been put in front. He’s still the same guy who acts tough but still has a moment of hesitation. I still don’t get why he’s used for convenient survivals, especially when he decided to not toss Gabi and Falco away from the blimp. Gabi, a trained soldier, killed Sasha, who was one of your besties for a long time? Ok let’s not throw them out and blame Eren on this whole fiasco!

I’ve said my mind about Floch, but him becoming a fanboy of Eren was unexpected and I’m curious to see what role he’s going to play in the future. Connie’s reactions to him teaming up with the man who was responsible for his village being devastated is too lackluster. Still, him describing Sasha’s loss as a part of him dying was touching.

Sasha was practically a non-character whose death would’ve been more impactful if it was set on for earlier. Isayama let her not only for the sidelines for way too long, but she ended up being the only “major” death on Paradis, with a couple of death flags on her. The result was not only predictable, but quite obnoxious with the over-extended funeral. Her character never got past the food jokes and Isayama is adding another layer of grief and mourning. Layer that could be shortened and used for something else. If there was another one I’d say ok, but this extra mourning is just really unnecessary. No character, not even Erwin, had this treatment before. Is it happening because Sasha doesn’t require much plot significance like Marco?

Gabi deserves my appreciation however. Her motivations to become a warrior were touching and understandable if you’re a member of a minority who strives to be accepted among other folks who sees you and your upbringing as inferior.

Zeke is a complete enigma. His actions are the ones impacting the plot the most and I really don’t know what to make of this. His movies are clear and at the same time they aren’t. Clear in the sense that he plays everybody like a fiddle to reach some goal. Unclear in the sense we don’t understand precisely what this goal is and what pushes Zeke to do this. Whether it’s for the common good or his own safety. The keikaku master exposition is becoming old if we keep exploring yet again what’s happening on Paradis on the third year. It’s cool Zeke is at the origin of both solutions and conflicts, but nothing is really explained.

The current plot

Or more accurately, monkey shenanigans 2.0. They’re not really the most compelling but they’re interesting enough to follow the series monthly. Despite that, we’re getting more questions than answers with all these chapters. If Zeke sides with neither camp, what is he fighting for exactly?

Since vol. 26 was mostly battles, not much questions have been answered to, and in the end, we’re spending more time with Paradis’ cast, getting more and more unlikeable with each chapter, falling into their own ways, rather than finishing with Marley, a cast we’re accustomed to since vol. 23. It would’ve been much better to end the battle of Liberio on Marley’s point of view first, then explain the flashbacks after. Engaging on an exposition dump was a clumsy move, and ending the battle to see a bunch of soldiers attacking another nation like terrorists acting like a bunch of clowns feels off compared to the settled tone.

Plus, so many scenes could’ve been shortened or skipped to insert other character moments instead. Sasha’s funeral comes to mind. You could’ve cut it half and have Historia thinking about Ymir when Kiyomi made her a proposition. The food jokes are outdated anyway and they make the story feel more embarrassing to read than comical. Same thing as Levi threatening to make a sopa de macaco. Still a tier better than food jokes, but still annoying.

The sudden transition to Paradis really makes me wonder, overall, why I should care about these fucks while the Marley arc started with another perspective? You just can’t let things unfinished and have an exposition dump in the meantime.

Loot anime and merch haul

It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a merch post but about a month ago I got an urge to do some shopping and got myself a nice assortment of anime stuff. The internet hates shipping to me (I know it’s personal) so my packages started trickling in only a week or so ago, incidentally coinciding with this month’s loot anime.

The opportunity seemed perfect for a good old post showcasing my abysmal photography skills. I know these posts aren’t exactly the most incisive writing (I’m implying here that there are posts on this blog that are!) But I always love looking at pictures of your stuff. It’s like internet shopping with none of the risk!. This one is for my capitalist loving readers. I hope you enjoy it.

Accessories!

Let’s get some of these accessories out of the way. I love both merchandise I can wear and that isn’t too obvious. So little touches like this are my thing. Plus they’re super cheap. I have to say, most of these are pretty well made and look great in person.

Dararara Izaya’s ring set. (This is the second set I buy. I’m a fan of simple silver bands and wearing them on both index fingers is unusual. Just make sure you know your size).

Bleu Exorcist – Exorcist key pendant. (This is a small and discreet pendant that adds a tiny colourful touch)

Attack on Titan – Eren’s key (I know it’s supposed to be gold. In fact it come in with bronze, silver or gold finish but I prefer silver jewelry. I need my head canon this just happens to be Irina’ key… It’s a pretty striking pendant. I have worn it once to the office so far and recieved quite a few compliments. Of course no one new where it was from)

Attack on Titan – survey corp pin. (Nice metal pin. It’s on my bag. It only has one central pin so it has a tendency to spin)

Yuri on Ice – Victor pin and Totoro pin (two little cabuchon pins. Adorable. I really like both. I wear them on coats or jackets.)

Black Butler – seal locket watch (I already have one of these small locket watches and I love them. They come on a long chain and are perfect over a simple loose top. And the subtle design is just my style.)

Haikyuu and Bungo Stray Dogs keychains (Kenma and Dazai). I don’t know why I like keychains so much, I hardly use keys anymore. These are both adorable decently sized and super lightweight. I hope they’re also durable.

Figs!

I also got a few more figs. I recently discovered figs and both kinda love and hate them. I mean they’re useless. Little statues to just plop down in a bookcase or on a counter. Yet I just like them. It makes me happy to see them there staring at me.ç

The lovely Kirusu on gears. Her hair is a bit on the brown side but I love the pose. She watches over me when I work. Silently critiquing everything I do.

My misunderstood lovely Nagito. He came with an alternative crazy face and extra arm so I can put him in his condescending explain it all pose. I love Nagito.

Loot box

This month’s loot box was late as usual but was full of franchises I enjoy, so I was really looking forward to it. The actual product though….

Attack on Titan poster and t-shirt. I actually went out of my way to get some aot merch on my own. The poster is fine but I really only put up framed fan art so this will go in a box. As for the t-shirt. It wasn’t in the box, there was a post card saying that it will ship later.

Black Lagoon t-shirt. I love the color, the logo and the size but once again it’s clearly cut for a boy. I really need to figure out how to adjust them.

No Game No Life pin. It’s a lovely high quality pin with vibrant colours and two pins to keep it well in place. This is the standard loot anime pin, and I always quite like them.

Bungo Stray Dogs manga vol. 1. I’ve been playing the BSD mobile app a lot lately. It’s a fun little marbles game and it’s really doing it’s job. I.e. reminding me of the franchise and making me want more. I can’t wait till the next season… The problem with this is…I already have BSD vol 1… It’s nice that this is a loot anime exclusive alternate cover though. Otherwise it’s the same book.

My Hero Academia sippy cup. It’s probably not called that. This is a big plastic jug with straw. I don’t drink enough water at work (I love water, I’m wild!) This will get tons of use. My favourite part was the large sticker that was on it, proclaiming it to be made of non-toxic materials.

And that’s it…. Honestly I’m thinking it’s about time I drop this. They haven’t had figures for months. I can get all the pins I want for a handful of bucks elsewhere. The t-shirt never fit me nicely. Even in a box representing only properties I like a lot, there are no exciting items. I guess I would have been pretty excited about the manga if I didn’t already own it. Still, I highly recommend you put together your own box from highly discounted items in the vault. It will cost you half the price and you’ll only get stuff you like.

Bag

One of the bigger items I got is this persona 5 school bag. I absolutely adore it. I’ve been using it as my official work bag every day. It’s lightweight and practical. Very comfortable to carry around. It roomy enough for all my junk and has a variety of pockets to keep everything organized. Also the bottom is rigid enough to keep its shape and has these little pads so you can set it on the ground and it won’t get too dirty or topple over. A great buy.

Last but always best! Natsume’s book of friends.

First, Remy send me this absolutely beautiful fanzine from a con he went to. It’s full of Natsume fan art from all different artists. Part of me wants to take it apart to frame my favorite illustrations and put them up but it’s too beautiful. I wouldn’t dare. Once again, thank you so much Remy the is the best present ever.

Then l got this Natsume and Madara figure. You can’t tell from the pictures but this thing is huge. I’ll be honest, I’m not quite sure how I feel about it yet. It’s a little clunky. But it’s sitting on a corner counter in my bedroom and just knowing I got these two watching over my dreams makes me a little happy.

Finally, I got a litter of nyankos. These little guys are so cute. I really love all of them. They are adorable yet really display Nyankos sensei’s personality. For the moment they are lining a shelf but I plan to bring at least one to the office to keep me company there…

P.S. right after finishing this post I received a box full of anime keychains so that’s my header pic. I couldn’t pick the characters but the entire lot was about 4$…I have no clue what I’ll do with them.
