GUYS GUESS WHAT
I took my friend (who doesn't get out much and needs to have a quiet retreat space) to the library today.
I FORGOT HOW RAD THE LIBRARY IS.
-My library has private rooms with locking doors that you check out with your library card and then have keycard access to.
-These rooms are made of plexiglass for Obvious Reasons, but still. Rooms.
-I checked out a Lounge space and, guys, it's a balcony.
-It's over the main entrance to the library so you can see everyone coming in and out. The door locks so it's private, but it's also open air to the tall ceilings and has SO MUCH natural light.
-literally so much natural light the one exterior wall is floor-to-ceiling windows with a view over a fountain and a courtyard and the local shopping district. the sunset was rad.
-My laptop connected directly to the WiFi.
-There were so many people there! There are chairs spread throughout and a bunch of computers and people just chilled and hung out!
-My friend was thrilled to be able to navigate a quiet space with strangers who didn't speak to her, and then to have a retreat space.
-My library also has a Makerspace (!!!) and a Cricut machine (!!!) and I can email someone and get trained in how to use it!
-Someone was in the recording booth and I couldn't tell what she was reading but it sounded cool.
-There's a whole room along the side of the upstairs that's just for teens. Like literally just. The sign says that if you're not a teenager you should see the staff for other rooms. There wasn't anyone there when I stuck my head in but there's a giant whiteboard and orb-style chairs and
-sorry I forgot to mention that my balcony has not only a couch but also several big comfy chairs (like, I can sit on my chair and put my feet on it too and balance my book on my knees and it's STILL not too small of a chair) and a couple coffee tables and a corner where the sunlight isn't direct y'all it's so nice
-I'm so glad my tax dollars went to this, guys. We're stuck on campus for Thanksgiving break and we desperately needed to go somewhere that didn't cost money.
-for as much as I get on about the necessity of Third Spaces, you think I'd remember this.
-I also found out my friend likes Agatha Christie novels. She read me a section while I washed dishes tonight, and I think I'm gonna like them too.

Tumblr media
March 12th 2024
LIBRARY HAUL WOOOOO I LOVE THE PUBLIC LIBRARY LETS GOOO WOOOOOOO!!!! They had all of the ms marvel graphic novels and all of fruits basket! I’m gonna go insane theres so many manga on my to read list there lots of good old stuff. I’m a pre 2015 anime/manga supremacist that was the Time the Peak. Today was pretty productive, I got my book club book, worked, made my mom come visit me at work and then we played some of the games when I clocked out- It was a really sweet and nostalgic moment because I used to go to the cec I work at as a kid! it’s changed a lot but we still have the sketchbook machine and so we took a pic on that to put on the fridge. Anyways I’m gonna read before I go sleep time and tomorrow is gonna be cleaning and rest day!
🎧 - Maneater, Daryl Hall & John Oates

TikTok has some good takes, great takes even, but you can tell when someone hasn’t read the absolute dumpsterfire that is the twilight saga when they try to argue over something that SMeyer unfortunately has told us too much about
Like some girl was arguing oh we don’t know how old Ribosome will be when she matures! Uh we kinda do SMeyer said around 7 she’ll look 17. It’s in the book and the guide… or lol they can’t kiss with tongue. Like they do it’s in eclipse(?) or breaking dawn pre-wedding. Even steph was like a sprinkle of spice (as spicy as mormons can get anyways). Or someone was arguing edward’s salvia should have turned Bella when she swallows it? Like -! Or Jacob x Rhinoceros was CUTE with romantic edits and all like! Someone was romanticizing Rosalie, Emily, Leah, and Esme’s traumatic experiences saying it built them to become strong women like?? No babes shut it.
Twilight has so many flaws and problematic material. Let’s focus on those. If you’re going to criticize it let’s criticize it don’t just get on the bandwagon on hating it for giggles. Some amazing creators on here talk about Native representation, SA/PTSD/narcissism/depression, folklore used, plot holes, Mormonism - be critical and petty. Not just petty.
(Please no hate. I genuinely do think some TikTok creators are great but 1) read critically and 2) read what you criticize before going off of what people say. 3) I’m open for opinions on this! Just let’s keep it respectful!)

Sometimes life feels completely meaningless and it feels like you are a thousand years old and can’t even remember what you used to like...
and sometimes you decide to go by your childhood public library and it’s like ah. right. here is the meaning, here is the self. Maybe I will be myself again someday. Thank you juvenile fiction aisle for saving my life
it’s gonna be okay

I unintentionally bought two patterns from etsy that the seller is going to print out and mail me. Even though they definitely have a scanned copy of the thing because how else can you sell multiples of a paper pattern if you don't?
One reviewer said, "I'm old-fashioned! I wanted printed patterns, not PDFs. Love this store!"
Like, my person, you do realize you can just...print out a PDF right? I am stuck waiting three days for a pattern* because it has to go IN THE MAIL even though it could have just been emailed to me.
*do i need it right this second? No. But I expected it would be electronic, so I am pissy.

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).
Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.

Library Snap Shot Day
April 1st is both Library Snap Shot Day, and Edible Book Day. A day for both fun and awareness when it comes to celebrating literature, and public access to it. Library Snap Shot Day being a day to bring awareness to what life could and would be like without access to library services. Some may say that libraries no longer have any purpose or use in society with the rise of the internet and its…
