Looking out the window, you watched as campus had been clearing out from the current short term break that was being offered. Christmas was around the corner and due to the storm in your hometown, you'd be spending it on campus alone. There wasn't too much to complain about, however. Your father had done a good job of making sure that you were in a nice apartment where you could bounce between being an introvert and extrovert at the same time. You kept to yourself and often stood out amongst many like a sore thumb. You only had yourself to blame for being interested in going to a PWI and managing to accomplish such with a full academic ride.

Your best friend had been on a plane, so there was nothing left to do besides put on something decent besides your sweat and t-shirt combo of pajamas. Out of your closet, you managed to pull out a hoodie and jean jacket combo with dark ripped jeans and comfortable converse. Your curls had been doing amazing throughout the pre-winter and current fall weather, so a low slicked bun was your go-to. A cafe had been in your interests, so you packed a tote bag with your laptop and some headphones with the idea of premeditated peace.

Pulling your car into a parking spot, you exited while keeping your head low of the other surrounding students who had been up here for a reason gone undetermined by you. It was much quieter inside, but your blood ran cold when you saw Park Jimin. He was...not supposed to be here at this time. Behind the counter with his blonde locks and fitted apron, serving up hot coffee to some hot bimbo with his attractive smile. You were next in line -- not that he'd know because he was too busy smucking it up with the campus sweetheart slash whor-

"__," The sound of his name will never not cause you to freeze. You tried to find somewhere to look - Ah, the menu. "Are you here for your usual caramel macchiato with two pumps of brown sugar and mocha drizzle?" You looked to him with panic, surprise that he remembered. It wasn't that he was cold, but he was different from the last time you'd seen him.

"You're the most warm thing in the room," He said while holding you from the back, trying to catch his breath from the fresh release that both you and him had come down from. Naked and underneath your comforter, he might've been right.

"The air conditioning is on auto, i could turn it on," You said, turning to him and snuggling against him. You looked up from his marked chest and into his eyes, a smile on your features. Of course, he didn't want you to leave the bed. You could feel that in the grip that he had around your waist. Plus size or not, Park Jimin knew how to handle you in all the right ways. Your hands danced throughout his dark curls and he closed his eyes, basking in you and everything that you meant to him.

You remembered when the two of your first interacted. It was an accident, getting jammed in that elevator. He was known all around campus for his many talents and being a heartthrob of course. You hated closed spaces and nothing more than being trapped in that elevator, but he made sure to keep you comfortable that entire time.

You interacted two more times after that, both of them being accidental. The third time was when you'd been one of the only students in the library during Thanksgiving. Of course, he had been horsing around with some girl but you couldn't deny that the sly smile on his features was enough to distract you from the red lipstick that was on the collar of his shirt.

"Are you going to walk home this late?" He asked, the instant regret that you felt coursing through your veins wishing that you'd decided to drive instead of tag along with your study buddy. You nodded your head, gathering your belongings with a smile at your features. His stare lingered and it made you feel a little uncomfortable in the best way? Your cheeks warming over and it wasn't the heater blasting through the air conditioning. "Let me take you home. The temperature is dropping outside."

"You don't have to. I'm around the block from here and I'd rather not be in debt." You slung your backpack over your shoulder, shuffling your hands inside your hoodie before you'd given him a warm smile. He missed it though, too busy checking out the curves that had been hidden underneath your sweater. Plus size and all -- He couldn't keep his eyes off you. "Excuse me," You said, moving past him with the intention of brushing past him and making your way home.

You'll never forget how his hands felt. While they were pleasuring you or his thumb lodged in your mouth to apply pressure to your tongue. The way he knew how to pleasure you just about in every part of your body -- places that you forget to even consider when it came to pleasure.

You'll never forget when the rumors kicked up. The slight speculation about the glances he'd deliver to you when he was on the soccer field after making a goal or catching you roaming around the common ground area when he was with his friends. It was hard to deny that there had been something going on when he was a little too drunk and almost kissed you when you'd gone to one of your first and last campus parties.

You'll never forget the online bullying that you suffered from. People had thought that Jimin was only dealing with you because he'd been behind in a class or was participating in some sort of bet. Accusations of your weight and off guard pictures of you doing something just as regular as eating. No, you won't forget how the dance team surrounded you in the alleyway of your apartment while dropping your trash off and threatened to have you expelled if you continued to associate with him. Not even just yourself, but getting Jimin removed from his throne on campus and shunning him out. Knowing that he wanted a future in entertainment, you couldn't let that happen.

So you ghosted.

"Can you hurry up? I'm in a bit of a rush here," Someone said behind you said, causing you to snap from your old reality and into your current reality. You nodded your head and ordered exactly what he said, pressing your hand into your forehead as you'd gone to sit by the window. You continued to hear Jimin's sweet giggle and it was becoming all too much.

You stood from the table and mentally said fuck it, exiting the shop without your coffee. It was ridiculous how much you couldn't tell him the truth, but reputations needed to be protected.

"Hey, you left without your coffee!" Jimin said, grabbing your arm lightly which caused you to turn around. The regret of smelling his sweet cologne and a soft smile to match. You took your coffee without a word, shaking your head to actually shake him from your brain. "Why do you keep avoiding me?"

"It's better this way. Okay?" You spat at him, furrowing your brows and avoiding his expression. You could tell from the slump of his shoulders and darkened expression that he wasn't pleased. He'd tame your attitude on a regular last year with orgasms behind orgasms that made you forget how to even form an attitude. It was different now. "Can you move from in front of my car? I need to leave."

"No."

"What?"

"I said no, __," Jimin folded his arms over his chest, ignoring the surrounding reactions from strangers that were close enough to hear it. You looked to him as though he'd lost his rabbit ass mind.

"You're crazy." You said, half of your body in your car and half of it out.

"I never took you as a selfish person, but I'm finding out that you are." He spat. Your expression of surprise faltered more than you'd like to admit and your eyes swelled. Selfish? You? "How could you disappear on me after making me...Did you just want to use me for my status?"

You scoffed aloud, not even believing that he believed what he'd been accusing you of. Of course, you had take into consideration the rumors that were being spread and the fact that people were fat-shaming and threatening to have the both of you expelled. Both of your futures had been at stake and it was your decision to simply make all that go away. "You might want to watch your mouth or you might find out something that's true," This was the only way.

"I didn't use you for your status. You were nothing but an amazing orgasm after a hard day of doing something you could never do. You've had a full ride access to everything in your life, so excuse me for wanting to relieve stress with the campus dick that was already being talked about. You were a good fuck, never anything more to me, Jimin. Isn't that what guys like you do to girls?" You tilted your head with a smirk, eyes overspilling. You couldn't control them. "Why do you care? Get back to serving your coffees and while you're doing that, remember the position you'll never have again in my life."

Despite the crack of your voice at your last few words, it was impactful enough for him to chuckle and nod his head. He lowered his head and covered his mouth area, processing the words that probably did more damage than you ever intended to do. You swallowed thickly, wondering why you'd been waiting here for him to respond. Why?

Nothing was said though. He looked around, suffering from embarrassment that you could only come up with as being rejected from a fat girl. He ran his fingers through his blonde hair, watery eyes looking at you one last time before he sniffed and walked off.

The entire car ride home had been full with nothing but silence and your occasional sobbing. You promised yourself to contain it as best as you could, eyes flickering to the coffee cup that had been in its respectful cupholder. Something in your heart ached and you just wished that it would get easier as the hours passed on. That coffee rested in your kitchen and the intuitive part of you knew..

You had broken Jimin's heart.

Whumptober Day 7: Helplessness

Quinlan’s tone is lighthearted, the only way he knows how to be in these situations. “Hey Kenobi,” he calls as he knocks on the door. “Anybody home?”

Anakin answers the door in pajamas. “Hello, Knight Vos,” the little padawan says politely.

“Hey kiddo, I heard from Tachi that you weren’t in your classes today or yesterday,” says Quinlan.

“Oh yeah. Sorry,” Anakin mumbles.

“Is there a reason why?”

Anakin shrugs. “Obi-Wan is in the living room.”

Quinlan takes off his boots at the door, because old Kenobi has always had strong opinions about the tracking of mud and the cleanliness of living spaces. But looking around, it strikes him that the place is not up to Obi-Wan’s usual standards.

“Hey Kenobi,” Quinlan says as he enters the living room. Obi-Wan is curled up in a ball, staring out the window with a blank expression. “Everything going alright?”

Obi-Wan ignores him.

“Buddy, nobody’s seen or heard from you two in a few days. What’s going on here?”

Obi-Wan’s head tilts slightly, glancing towards Quinlan and then quickly away again. “Nothing,” he whispers.

“Are you feeling alright?” Quinlan falls silent when Obi-Wan meets his gaze again. “I’m sorry, Obes.”

Quinlan knows what this is about. The same thing it’s always about. In the first few months after Qui-Gon’s death, it had been dark and incessant. In the past month or so, Obi-Wan had become less open about his grief, maybe starting to wonder if the socially acceptable period for mourning had passed, but they all knew it was still a heavy weight on him.

Too heavy to lift himself off the couch, some days.

“I’ll make us some tea, would that be alright?”

Obi-Wan gives no response, which is a yes as far as Quinlan is concerned.

Anakin hovers in the kitchenette while Quinlan puts water on to boil.

“You had lunch yet, kid?” he asks over his shoulder.

“No.”

The afternoon is quickly waning into evening; it’s going to be a very late lunch indeed. Quinlan opens the refrigeration unit, and there really isn’t much inside. He files that away under concerning observations about Obi-Wan’s current mental state, but decides he’ll think about it later. He checks a few cupboards before he finds one with some dehydrated soup packets.

“Hey Anakin, is there anything in here that both of you like?” he asks, inviting the young padawan to come pick one out. Anakin frowns over the choices.

“What does this word mean?” he asks, pointing to one of the boxes.

“Haranfruit. It’s a savory vegetable, like a squash.”

Anakin wrinkles his nose and puts the box back. He picks up another one that is just rice and roast nerf.

“This?” he offers.

Quinlan nods. “Sure thing. Do you want to go put on some daytime clothes? I assume those are last night’s pajamas,” he says.

“Okay!” Anakin scurries away.

The tea is ready before the soup. Quinlan sets a cup down on the coffee table in front of Obi-Wan.

“Hey, far be it from me to judge whatever’s going on here,” he says. “I get it. I do. Sometimes you just need to sit in a pile of blankets in yesterday’s clothes. But if you need help, especially with Anakin, you know you can ask any of us, right?”

“I’m sorry,” Obi-Wan whispers.

“You don’t owe any apologies to me,” Quinlan says pointedly. “Do you mind if I take him out into the city this afternoon? It’ll give you a little break, and him some fresh air. We can ride up to that huge supermarket, the one where you found Tatooine food that one time.”

In his mind, Quinlan is already brainstorming ideas for simple meals that don’t require a stove or anything that Anakin shouldn’t be operating unsupervised. As a harm-reduction strategy, there should at least be food in the apartment that Anakin could prepare for himself if he got hungry.

Obi-Wan only manages to nod. When the soup is ready, Quinlan sets a bowl next to the teacup, but doesn’t press the issue. Anakin eats his at the kitchen table.

Grief is like this, sometimes. It leaves Obi-Wan feeling helpless.

They’re getting to be old friends now (honestly, Quin feels like they’re getting to be old, period.) Quinlan knows how to provide what comfort he can, same as they would do for any of their friends. He’ll spread the word, and Bant will probably stop by the next morning to offer to take some laundry to the quartermaster and walk Anakin to his morning class. Garen can’t often call from the Starfighter Corps, but he’ll reach out and leave Obi-Wan a message even if Obi-Wan doesn’t pick up.

“It’s okay,” he says, just as a reminder while he’s cleaning up the dishes and getting ready for his outing with Anakin. Obi-Wan doesn’t respond, but Quinlan doesn’t expect him to. “It sucks. But we’re here for you.”

Also making various shapes like hearts etc with ketchup,

What's wrong with me. I'm getting horny over food 🤔,

Paz would still be doing his cooking magic after you guys had Andromeda,

Stirring something with one hand while cradling Andromeda in his arm, what is this balance, totally like a boss,

Ad'ika trying to steal baby's porridge 😂,

I know he is a small pupper but somehow he'd manage okay 😂,

Andromeda helping Paz with collecting the eggs, well she'd surely drop most of them but well it's still a cute image,

One day at Din's school was this dressing up as your fav character day,

You joined his class, dressed as a princess with the tiara Din got you at Disneyland,

Grogu from now one was not only flexing about his dad being the Mandalorian but his mommy being a real life princess 🥺,

When Din introduced you to Andromeda sr. you both instantly hit it off,

She was spilling all the tea about him,

Omg! And showing you album with all the embarrassing photos,

She'd tell you how happy she was, because she thought Din would die a virgin lol,

After Boba opened up to you some more, he told you all about his father and how dearly he misses him,

Boba would be surprised by finding fresh flower bouquets at his dad's grave,

He quickly found out it was you,

He got so touched by this kind act of yours 😭,

You low-key dissing Din's truck and him getting butthurt,

''Din, did you find this car at the junkyard?'', '' When will you fix this dent right over there?'', ''When was the last time you changed the tires? '',

''Sweet girl, it's funny that you don't bitch about my truck when I am pounding into you in the backseat'' lol,

Boba and Paz for sure had THE TALK with Din, encouraging him to finally confess to you,

When you started staying over at Boba's place, Fennec would totally ignore him,

He'd be grumpy and slightly jealous,

''Well, shit. My both princesses ignoring me 😔'',

He would be all pouty if you tried to cover the hickies with makeup,

Paz is actually a really good dancer (when he is sober lol), he'd totally pull of some fancy moves while dancing with you,

Din can't even put a hand on your waist before getting all flustered, also he can't dance for the life of him.

And Boba? Well he'd just be standing guiding your hips to grind onto him

The morning routine with Paz is beautiful, and him holding his little girl while cooking 🥺

Then him letting her help him cook, and prepare mommy's breakfast and little to go container 🥺

Imagine how cute these two would be on Mother's Day

Them making you a four course breakfast in bed, where you all are just curled up together

Ad'ika jumping on the bed and stealing a slice of toast, and everyone just laughing

Then Paz takes the two of you on a trip to an aquarium and he lets his little girl feed the turtles and play in the wade pool area

Andromeda loving the shark tunnel and watching them swim over top of her

Then when you get home that night and you lay Andromeda in bed, because she fell asleep in the car, Paz takes you to bed and makes sweet love to you

Thanking you for being with him, and giving him everything he has ever wanted

Then imagine making frozen chocolate dipped bananas with Andromeda

And Paz walking into the kitchen right as you place the tip of yours in your mouth and you just instantly see his eyes cloud with lust

Paz bites his lip and coughs saying he is going to go take a shower because he's been in the garden (and because he has a tight big problem)

Paz knows how to tango (both in and out of the bedroom)

Now, Grogu introducing everyone to his daddy the mandalorian and his mommy the princess. You're killing me

You and Andromeda sr. getting along like a house on fire

You constantly teasing Din about, dying a virgin

Teasing Din about his junky truck, only for him to pin you down in it next time you both go for a ride

At least one of the kids were definitely conceived in that truck

Boba has tried to get him a new one, but Din refuses, saying that his truck is trusty and has always been there for him

It breaks down like every week....

Talking with Boba about his dad 😢

One day you find a picture Boba has of him and his father when he was little

You went out and got a nice frame and hung it in your living room

When Boba had come home he noticed it immediately, and had just stopped and stared at it

Unexpected (2/?)

You weren’t expecting it. Neither of you were.

That didn’t mean you weren’t happy with how it ended.

Warnings: Cheating, Threats, Sad Boi Hour, Heatbreak, I’m not quite sure what else.

Steve and Sam are waiting for Bucky when he walks into the shared living room; looking every part of a pair of worried parents. The familiarity of it lifts a weight from his shoulders. Meeting you hadn’t been what he expected, then again, he didn’t know what he was expecting in the first place.

He only knew that you weren’t it and he was glad.

“How’d it go? You rushed outta here before either of us could stop you.” Steve worries, resting a hand on his best friend’s shoulder. Steve had been there for him for as long as Barnes could remember and Sam had been a rock keeping the two old men above water in the new age.

“Y/N is something.” He mutters cryptically as he crashes onto the couch, mind swirling as he tries to make sense of everything that had happened. The lack of elaboration has his friends looking at him for an explanation.

“Something as in good or something as in she threw something at you and called you a liar before chasing your ass away from her house.” Sam asks, taking the seat next to Barnes and earning a glare.

Good. You were definitely good despite your very bad situation. He had run to you half cocked with no plan and laid what was probably the worst news possible on you while your kid was asleep in the other room.

“She- They- a kid. She has a daughter named Laysa. Four weeks old.” Disbelief laces his voice. He could understand why Claire would cheat on him; he was a broken weapon made by HYDRA with more issues than Time Magazine. But, you?

He couldn’t understand why anyone would cheat on you. You were beautiful and thoughtful and the brief glimpse he’d caught of the fire in your eyes made his stomach twist in a way he didn’t want to elaborate on for a long while.

And you had a child. Patrick had a family with you; a domestic life Claire had snubbed Bucky for desiring.

“What?” Steve says through grit teeth. The Captain was like his friend; he too wanted to eventually settle down and start a family. When they were younger, the two Brooklyn boys had it all planned out. They’d marry the loves of their lives and get houses side by side; their kids would grow up together and they’d take turns having Sunday brunches at each other’s houses till they were old and gray.

The dream may have been postponed a few decades but, when Bucky told Steve about proposing to his long-time girlfriend, he was happier than he could ever remember being. After all the shit HYDRA put him through, he was glad Buck had found a nice girl like Claire.

How wrong he had been.

“You did the right thing telling her. She deserved to know.” Sam adds but, Bucky just shakes his head.

“I could have worded it better.” He admits, twisting the ring on his finger. “She opened the door and I blanked. Then I basically yelled it in her face: Your husband is fucking my wife.”

He watches Steve’s face go red from secondhand embarrassment and Sam fails in holding back a laugh but, they all fall silent when someone clears their throat. Barnes feels the hairs on the back of his neck raise as he reluctantly turns to face the new person in the room. A person he had purposefully left out of this because A. She was on a mission and B. He thought she would raise hell when she found out.

“Hey Nat…” Steve coughs awkwardly.

Fresh off a hard mission, covered in scrapes and bruises, and scowl on her face; Natasha Romanoff looked ready to raise all seven layers of hell.

“Someone. Explain.” She asks calmly… too calmly. It unnerves the three men in the worst way possible and Bucky’s explaining the situation before his brain can catch up. Once he’s finished, the woman simply mutters an okay before walking out of the room and leaving the trio speechless.

She returns a minute later in a fresh change of clothes and is stuffing knives in different pockets of her pants.

“What are you doing?” Sam asks, curious and worried at the same time.

“I’m going to fucking kill them.” She announces, making her way to the door. If it were anyone else, Barnes would have thought it was a joke but, he knew Natasha. He knew what happened to people that hurt her family and, even thought he loathed himself for it, he still cared about Claire.

“Natalia.” She stops with a huff when Bucky calls her name. “Please, don’t.”

For once, she doesn’t fight him and she instead takes a seat on the armchair across from him.

“If I ever see her again, I will not hesitate. I mean it Bucky.”

“She doesn’t even know I know yet. Neither of them do. Y/N wants to wait until her divorce papers are ready.” Her green eyes soften at his obvious pain. In all the years they’d known each other, she’d never seen him like this. “Her friends are lawyers and she asked if I wanted to meet them with her tomorrow.”

“I hope you said yes.” To his surprise, its Steve that says it. Out of everyone in this room, he’d have thought Steve would be the one handing out second chances. In a messed-up way, he was glad the courtesy didn’t extend to cheating spouses.

“I did. We’re meeting for breakfast.” He nods, and the three Avengers let out a collective sigh of relief.

“Mr. Barnes.” FRIDAY’s voice echoes in the silent room. “There is a Miss Y/N Voight calling for you. Should I take a message?”

As soon as the AI says your name, his breath catches in his throat and his mind goes straight to the worst-case scenario: Patrick came home and something happened to either you or Laysa.

“No, you can patch her through Fri.”

There’s a shuffle over the speakers before your voice is heard.

“Hello? James?” To his relief, you didn’t sound any more distressed than you were when he left.

“I’m here Y/N. I’ve got Steve, Sam, and Nat here with me. Is everything alright?”

“Oh, hi other Avengers. Yeah, it’s just that I called Matt’s secretary and explained the situation. She told me to bring any official pre-nuptial documents with us tomorrow and figured I should let you know but, I didn’t have your number. Had to call the station to get this one.”

He didn’t like the idea of you calling your husband’s place of work but, you didn’t sound bothered by it and he hopes its because you managed to avoid talking to him directly.

“Секретарь? Я думал, вы сказали, что юристы - ее друзья.” The secretary? I thought you said the lawyers are her friends. Natasha asks in her mother tongue, a habit she and Barnes had gotten into whenever they needed to have a private conversation, and the man shrugs.

“Они мои лучшие друзья и заботятся обо мне.” They're my best friends and, they care about me. You reply without missing a beat, catching everyone in the room off guard. “If I tell them before tomorrow, nothing is stopping them from finding and maiming Pat… my soon-to-be ex-husband. You aren’t the only one with scary friends Barnes.”

Your words were so brazen that Bucky could picture you sitting on the phone with a smirk on your face as clear as day and a grin finds its way onto his face; earning a curious glance from Steve.

“Anyways, I’ve gotta go. Laysa’s fussing.” Sure enough, a sharp cry comes from the speaker. “I’ll see you tomorrow James and, I guess goodnight everyone else? Keep up the good work? Bye.”

When the call ends, everyone’s eyes turn to Bucky and he keeps his head down. It was kind of you to risk a confrontation with your husband to help him get prepared for tomorrow. He couldn’t imagine being kind in a situation like yours. You had a child to worry about through this; you had every right to be bitter.

“Fri. Can you print out-“

“Already on it Mr. Barnes.” The AI announces and, not for the first time, Bucky is grateful for Tony’s stubbornness. If it weren’t for Stark there wouldn’t be any pre-nuptial documents. James had thought it a waste of time when it was first brought up but, it looks like he’d need to thank the billionaire once more for forcing him to sign the papers.

“She sounded oddly cheery for someone who just found out their husband was cheating on them.” Sam frowns, causing Bucky to look at him in confusion.

Did Sam not hear the way your voice cracked when you mentioned calling the station? Could he not tell you had just cried your voice hoarse? Was he oblivious to you attempt of covering up your pain with thinly veiled humor?

No, you were not cheery. You were shattered, just like him but, you were trying your best to seem put together. He could see right through you. His friends though, they didn’t seem as attuned to your sorrow.

“We all process grief differently. For all we know, she’s still in shock.” Steve reasons, ever the mediator.

“She sounds like she has her hands full.” Natasha hums in agreement. “She’s probably focused all of her attention on the baby. I know it helped Laura whenever Clint was away on missions.”

You were coping, in your own way. Barnes decided to take your lead, standing from his seat.

“Heading to bed Buck?”

“Yeah. I’ll see you all in the morning.” He lies before leaving in the direction of his room. He wouldn’t be able to sleep, not with the images of Claire and Patrick burned into his eyelids so, he bypasses his bedroom and makes his way to the gym a floor below. He hated lying to his friends but, they were like yours, they cared about him almost too much. They were always so eager to help and he was grateful for it, really, but sometimes he needed to be alone in order to work through whatever problem he was having. The man liked his solitude.

When Bucky had told Steve he wanted his own apartment, the blonde nearly had a conniption but, he eventually relented and together they had found a place not too far from the compound. Right now, he was missing his little slice of solitude.

Thankfully, the gym is deserted when he arrives and, as he sets up a punching bag, his mind wanders; remembering times when his life wasn’t so damn complicated. Back when he’d spend the afternoon looking down alleys to make sure Steve wasn’t getting his ass handed to him. Back when the most he had to worry about was whether to take Sally or Jane dancing that evening.

He can only stay in that headspace for so long before he’s back to reliving the worst moment of his new life. He had thought he finally got it right with Claire; he used to think she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, she was smart, a kick-ass agent, she made him feel like he was able to put himself together again with her help. She was too good for him and he used to think it was only him who thought it.

After years of being together, she’d finally thought it too.

A hard jab to the bag slices it open, pouring sand into his sneaker and he almost yells in frustration. Then he remembers you and the way you chucked your phone past his head without so much as a sound. His anger was explosive but, yours? Your anger was silent and seething; dare he say calculating.

He wondered if you’d look as lovely screaming as you did seething before shaking the thought from his head with wide eyes. Whenever he and Claire argued; whether or not she was pretty was the last thing on his mind.

Comparing you to his wife should have been the last thing on his mind but, no matter how hard he tried, your face was the one to pop up when he lost focus. He wasn’t upset by it thought, he’d much rather remember your face instead of Patrick and Claire’s in the throes of passion.

Yeah, he’d much rather remember how nice your smile was as you got your daughter’s bottle ready.

Sweat glistened off of my body while my legs pumped at full speed, half resistance on the elliptical. With music blasting in my ear, I pumped hard trying to drown out the stress and trepidation that resonated through my bones over these past five days. Coming back to my hometown gave me a certain uneasiness that I couldn't ignore. The gym being my main stress outlet, I made it my first priority, the second I got here, to get a weekend pass to work out until I was numb, physically and mentally.

It’s been three years since I left this town, unannounced. Mia, my best friend, being the only person informed of my whereabouts. I made the impulsive decision of moving from New York to California, 2,764 miles away from everyone, the day after my high school graduation. This weekend was the first time we’d seen in each other in years. Over the past years, the act of Mia and I interacting, physically, was forbidden and taboo. I wanted nothing persuading or swaying me to feel guilty of my selfish decision. We communicated through social media and FaceTime, keeping our connection strong. Now that I’m prepared, and my life in California is too established for me to leave, I decided it was time for us to have a reunion.

Minus the constant trouble, negative energy and depression, I did, unfortunately, have a good, oblivious life here in Brooklyn. The universe gave me friends that cared about me, a boyfriend who loved me, and, all-in-all, a family that I chose.

We’re called the fab five. Five of the baddest, black women in our hometown walking around like the world revolved around our satisfaction. Honestly, we’re just a bunch of rude bitches, dividing and starting unnecessary mess within our community. The fab five hosts all of the parties, keeps our grades top of our class, dresses to impress, keeps our hair and nails slayed and only dates men that were above or on our level. You had to be cute, to our standards, or rich to associate yourself with us. We didn't even know the damage we were causing to self-esteems and quite frankly, we didn't care. The group started in the ninth grade and lasted until our senior year, surprisingly.

Tori, a dark-skinned, beautiful demon is the leader of the group. With her being rich, powerful and smart, the name and rules of the group was coined by her. Jade, Tori’s right hand woman, is always cleaning up Tori’s mess and creating some of her own. Her light skin complexion got her in and out of a lot of trouble. Keiosha, another member, followed Tori and Jade. The most calm of the group, Kei made it a priority to stay out of mess and settle any beefs. Although peace is her mantra, she finds herself in a lot of sticky situations, you know, with her head being stuck up Tori’s round ass. Then there’s Mia, a sad, depressed, troubled young woman and my best friend. We are polar opposites from everyone else and try to stay as far away from their mess as possible. The only reason we joined the group is because of the connections and, although we hate to admit, power.

“Bitches, we’re getting dumb lit prom weekend!” Tori announced while stuffing chicken nuggets in her perfect mouth. The rich bitch payed the security guard to allow the fab five to leave campus for food. Her father owned an oil company and her mother was an investment banker. The influence that they had on the school and public officials around them were too real. There was nothing money couldn't get them. “My mom rented out this club in upstate New York and we’re going to have the time of our lives. Free drinks, an unlimited supply of weed, a DJ, food catering, you name it and it’s there! My dad set up the arrangement and he’s working on the flyers. We’ll be passing them out Wednesday.” A squeal came from the girls that sat next to her, Jade to her right and Keiosha to her left, both her little minions. Unimpressed, Mia and I gave each other a look and stood up from the table.

“Uh, sounds good,” I said picking up my bag and putting on my backpack, “we’ll catch up with you all later.”

Tori waved her hand, dismissing us like we asked for her permission. Just a couple of more months and I don't have to look at this tired ho ever again. If it was up to me, I would've beat her ass a long time ago, but my fear of jail and losing all of my life investments spooked me out of the idea. Being her friend wasn’t all that miserable. I got a bomb ass scholarship out of the situation, Bill Gates to be exact. Almost one million dollars for college that I can spend at my own leisure. No debt, all four years paid for and extra spending money is what heaven sounds like to the average college student.

“Is she trying to mess up our opportunities or something? Talking about alcohol and weed. Bitch, we’re barely eighteen!” Mia ranted beside me. We were headed to our sixth period, government class that we shared together.

“Girl, you know how that silly bitch gets, thinking she runs New York and shit. I’m not going to the party. I refuse to associate myself with her after prom.” Mia shook her head in agreement. Inches away from the classroom, Mia took my hand and pulled me backwards.

“Wait!”

I yanked my hand from her firm grasp.

“Girl, what the fuck is wro-” I was about to tear the bitch another asshole when the sound of the orchestra played beautifully behind me.

Monica’s, For You I Will was being sung by our school’s choir. They all wore yellow, my favorite color. The smiles on their faces were enough to wipe my anger away and send me into a smiling fit. I turned to Mia to see if she had some information but my eyes immediately fell to the beautiful yellow rose in her hand. Holding it closer to my face, she shook her head and stuck out her tongue.

“Take the flower bitch and go in the classroom!” I took the flower from her hand as she slid my backpack from my shoulders. My legs moved hesitantly towards the classroom where I was instantly blown off my feet at the scenery inside.

Hanging from the ceiling were beautiful yellow lights and the desks were pushed against the back wall. Yellow flowers, dahlias, my favorite, were shaped on the floor in letters that spelt out the words ‘Prom, lil nigga?’. A chuckle escaped my lips as tears rolled down my cheek. Nobody but Erik’s weird ass would do something so thoughtful and romantic, yet so hood. My tears were cut short when I felt a couple of strongs arms wrap around me.

“Prom,” his lips grazed my ear, “lil nigga?”

Turning around to meet his gaze, I pecked his lips. “Sure, big nigga.” With the choir and orchestra still going, we swayed in the middle of the classroom to our favorite song.

I pumped a couple of more times before my music paused and started again.

-Bitch, the kick back starts in 10 minutes.

Honestly, I forgot all about that party. Going to the party was not apart of my agenda. There was going to be too many of my demons there for me to face, unfinished business. If it wasn't for Mia manipulating and threatening me, I would've blocked her number and called her when I got back to Cali.

Forcefully removing myself from the machinery, I shot her a quick text saying that I’d be there in thirty minutes. I walked to the gym’s restroom, wiped my body with a fresh towel then headed to my car.

The girls and I planned on going to NYU together before I broke the group up changing to UCLA at the last minute. The fab five was not true to my character or who I wanted to be as a woman. Being self-absorbed is not a bad thing but when it’s used to divide and single out other women, it reaches a new form of evil. The group was not the best time of my life and if I could erase some of the memories from it, I would and that’s exactly what I wanted to do. If it wasn't for the history, prior to joining the group, that Mia and I shared, I would've cut her off too, but she was my sister and we promised to always be there for each other.

I parked in front of the huge chateau, belonging to the leader of our dismantled group. It was supposed to be a small get together, only the fab five and their plus one, but the cars splattered out of the driveway and on the road said other wise. Glancing at my self in the mirror, I pulled my now frizzy silk press back in a ponytail, adjusted my sports bra and smeared lip gloss on my lips. Maybe, I should’ve brought a change of clothes. Opting out of being completely careless, I pulled my light purple jacket from my gym bag and placed it over my body. My gym outfit was colorful, but not too bad. Why do I even care?

I checked the time that read, 8:03. My plane departed around two o’clock so I had my escape plan ready. Everything was packed back at the hotel but that was going to be my excuse. I plan on gettting out of here by nine o’clock, amen. Before I even arrived to the door, it swung open letting out an aroma of weed and alcohol. It’s about to be a long night.

“BITCHHHHHH! I missed you!” Mia yelled out, fake because we’ve been with each other for the entire weekend. I squealed and pushed her off of me quickly, denying that type of physical contact.

“Leigha!!!” And just like that the other three members of the fab five were embracing my body, kissing, grabbing and tugging all over me. Some touchy bitches they were.

“We missed you so much!” Keiosha practically screamed in my ear while hugging me.

“Okay get off me!” I said pushing them, knowing how I felt about intimacy.

“UGHH, you couldn’t find some better clothes?” Tori asked with a disgusted expression plastered across her gorgeous face. She wore a light blue, fitted, thin spaghetti strap dress with some strappy, nude heels, showcasing all of her womanly curves and kick ass body. Her thick hair was pulled up into a curly ponytail, leaving her shimmery shoulders on full display. A whole meal and I wanted a bite. My mouth watered ready to taste the rich chocolate and if she wasn’t such a bitch, I would have asked, even begged to have a piece.

“You couldn’t find a darker foundation shade?” Her makeup was fine but I wanted to match her tone.

“Tuh, bitch, my makeup is beaT.” her arms found her chest.

“Yea-” my mouth was ready to combat.

“Alright, Leigha, everybody is here and they’re so excited to see you.” Mia took my hand and walked me through the foyer, up the stairs and down to the party room where the rest of the guest were. If it wasn’t for her, Tori and I would have stood there fighting for dominance with our words daring the other to make a move. The tension between us was sexual on my end but volatile on hers, which is not a good combination. She’s still mad I broke up the group. Mad because she can’t control me like she does the rest of these girls.

I greeted all of the guest individually, genuinely happy to see everyone. There were a couple of football players, dance members and ‘popular’ kids along with the boyfriends of the fab five spread out in the dim-lit room. I get sick to my stomach thinking about how much these people love to hang on to their high school glory days. That shit was three whole years ago, it’s time to grow up.

One thing I can give Tori is that, the devil knew how to throw bomb ass parties. The music was banging from the wall speakers and the decor complimented her home well. Rose gold accessories were spread out on the tables and floor with off white flowers creating that bougie feeling. It was a small party, to her standards, so there was no need for catering. She had a food table, with finger foods and a sweets table with cookies and brownies. To the far right of the room, there was a bar with pre-rolled blunts on a rose gold platters. I walked over to the bar and found a bottle of water. Making my way around the room, I stopped at the food table and viewed my options.

“Leigha, when are you going back home?” I was picking through the small selection of finger food when I heard Tori’s irritating voice over the soft talking and speakers. Of course everyone stopped when the queen began.

After filling my plate, I turned to her and stated bluntly, “At two AM.”

“So let me get this straight,” my legs worked their way to an empty chair, “You just got out here from California, today, after three years of no communication and now you’re leaving for California in a few hours?” Her hip swayed to the side and stayed, her hand meeting it.

“No,” I placed the plate on the table and took a bite from my cucumber, “I came here Thursday and I’m leaving tomorrow, which is Tuesday, at two AM.” I plopped my fingers in my mouth and sucked them loud enough for her to turn up her nose at my rude table manners.

“See! This bitch is a whole ass bird.” I chuckled at her choice of words and dug into my tuna sandwich. The chatter picked up again and the four girls pulled up some chairs close to me.

“Lei, why didn’t you tell us you were here?” Keiosha spoke, the mediator of the five. Her hair was in a blunt cut and she wore a silk, red pants, two piece. Her and Tori had on the same shoes. Jade, a light skinned devil, sat next to her with her gorgeous body covered in a cute, orange romper. Mia was trying to contain her laugh while she stared at me with the other set of eyes.

“I didn’t want all of the attention on me. We all know how Tori gets when people aren’t talking about her all time.” Mia lost it.

“Cut the shit. You know exactly why you failed to inform us of your arrival, exactly why you failed to tell us about you going to UCLA. Ex-fucking-zackly why we had to get updates about your life for three fucking years from Mia. You're a coward. You and Mia are two selfish ass bitches who only think about yourselves.” Rolling her long neck, she placed her arms over her breasts pushing them up a bit

“If you don’t get the fu-“ My insult was cut short when the chatter in the room picked up, volume increasingly high. We all stood up in unison, ready to defend each other from a possible threat.

Unfortunately it wasn’t a murderer or a thief, nope, it was much worse, Erik Stevens showed up. The way I left things off with Erik was nothing short of a disaster. He was in the dark like everyone else. Mia promised me that he didn't know about this party. She told me that she made everyone promise not to tell him about it. My stomach knotted and sweat built up on my already scorching skin.

“Why is he here?” fear was laced in my tone.

“I invited him.” Tori announced pulling down her dress and making her way towards him. Jade and Keiosha followed like puppies, waiting for their owner’s command. Me and Mia sat down watching the pettiness exude from their perfect bodies. I wanted to get up and smack fire into them greasy bitches, but my memory of Tori’s power slapped me out of the thought.

“I hate that bitch! She’s always starting some shit. I’m sick of her, man. How do you still hang out with her?” Mia touched my leg as it shook fiercely and looked down at her feet. Against all of my natural reflexes, I left her hand there and rubbed my thumb on her skin trying to ease mine and her nerves.

“They’re all I have, Leigha. You left me, remember?” My body couldn’t have turned quicker.

“That’s not fair. You could have came with me, you didn’t!”

“Tuh, you’re the one who got that Gates Scholarship, Lei, not me! I couldn’t afford a move to Cali and I for damn sure wasn’t getting into UCLA.” Her arms found her chest and her body slouched in the chair. My lack of problem solving skills and empathy made me turn back around in my seat and glance at the wall, all thoughts of Erik’s presence pushed out my head, guilt replacing it. “I missed you, you know? You’re my best friend. The only person who knows everything about me. You ju-“

“You told me this before, Mia. I don’t want to hear this shit.” Standing up, I walked to the door that led to the balcony and slammed it shut behind me.

What did they expect from me? I don’t live my life for them. I’m tired of being the backbone. They need to learn to survive on their own, I’m doing it. Pressuring me to conform to them and cater to their needs is only going to push me away further. Mia will be alright. She don’t need me, man.

My thoughts were cut short when I heard the door open and shut behind me. “Mia, it’s my last night with you. I don’t feel like this, okay?” My legs turned so my eyes could fall on a creature that was the exact opposite of my soft best friend. With his dreads pulled back in two braids that ran to the back of his neck, his firm features were on full display. The gold in his mouth glistened on his pearl, white teeth as his dimples made an appearance. He looked simple with a plain white, fitted shirt, light washed jeans and white Nike’s.

“Do I look like Mia, lil nigga.”

“Fuck no. Mia’s not nearly as ugly.” I turned around to my original spot and placed my arms on the metal gate that circumferenced the balcony. Shortly, he stood next to me, his shoulder touching mine.

“Now you know I’m not ugly.” I felt his eyes burning the side of my face. Naturally, I turned to meet his gaze.

“You may not be ugly but you certainly not cute so what is it?” Gorgeous, an angel, crafted from the finest soil and molded by Jesus himself? Yes.

He showed his grill again and put his hand on my hips pulling me into his chest. My nipple grazed his bumpy upper body and my vagina shuttered at the touch. Aren’t I supposed to be feeling some type of guilt or anxiety? Nope, I’m horny. The same feelings that ran through my bones three years ago resurfaced for this man and my previous nerves vanished at his touch.

“I missed your smart ass.” Surprisingly, I welcomed his embrace and we stood there for a while, silent. It was nice to be held by a strong, confident human again. I haven’t felt this feeling in a while. Hugging was such an intimate thing for me, being an empath and all. Auras and spirits are absorbed through hugging so I try not to do it too often. Emotions were transferred from their body into mine and I felt some of his strength radiating through my blood while his arms pulled me closer. I wonder what emotions he took from me.

“You feel so good in my arms, lil nigga.” His softness surprised me, why isn't he yelling, making a scene? Something big twitched near my lower region and I knew that wasn’t his leg. I pushed him off of me, breaking the contact.

“Alright, that’s enough.” My arms found the rail again.

“You wasn’t trying to come to this party, huh?” Closing my eyes, I prepared to get dragged. At his lack of words, I opened them and found his eyes on me scanning my body. I looked down and remembered my work out attire.

Relieved, I chuckled lightly and did a slow spin while swaying my hips. “You not feeling it? Straight from the clearance rack at Academy.” I stopped and met his expression.

“Oh, I love it. The color contrast is what really speaks to me. A purple sweater, a pink sports bra and green shorts. Girl, what you trying to do, taste the rainbow?” I cackled. He always came prepared with the jokes.

“Anyways,” My legs moved to the lawn chairs displayed against the back of the house, he followed.

“Speaking of rainbows, you still with that gay shit? Mia told me about you dating girls and shit.” I’m killing the bitch. My sexuality wasn’t something that I brought up to just anyone, so I trusted her with that information. I didn’t even explore the thought until I got to California but that’s beside the point. Let’s get into this nigga trying to invalidate my entire existence.

“What you mean ‘still into that gay shit?’ As if it was some kind of phase or act of rebellion? And I’m not gay, I’m bi-or- I don’t know, but boy, you can get the hell on with your dismissive tone.”

He pulled a blunt out his pocket and lit the end with the tip in his mouth. “Mmhm.” He took a drag and then held it out for me to grab. I swatted it and shook my head ‘no’.

“You’re still a square, I see.”

“You’re still annoying, I see.” I layed my head back on the lawn chair and stretched my body across the seat, memories of us in high school playing in my head.

“What if we get caught, Erik?” We walked behind the math building, going to Erik’s infamous smoke spot. It’s where all the rebels like Erik and his bad ass friends went to do God knows what. They smoked over here, had sex, shot dice you name it. No matter what it was, it was trouble and I had a reputation and scholarship to keep, so did Erik.

“We not going to get caught, relax.” His hand was soft in mine, making me swoon at his touch. Whatever he asked me to do, I did. I don’t even know why, honestly. He’s my closest friend besides Mia, but my feelings weren’t as strong for her as they were for him. We finally stopped at a spot hidden by an old raggedy storage unit. He pulled out a neatly rolled blunt and lit the end with the tip in his mouth. Taking a drag, he inhaled and let out the smoke then placed it in my hand.

“I don’t know what to do.” I admitted with no shame. Erik never made me feel insecure, everything was peaceful with him. I experienced a lot of firsts with him, this moment being one of them.

“Just place it between your lips, suck and inhale slowly, then let the smoke out.” He explained, simply. I did what he said but, somehow didn't have the same outcome as him. Instead, I was a coughing mess, cuffing and squeezing my chest. That stuff burned. I guess it was a comedy show to him because he laughed loud ass hell shaking and clapping his hands.

“Nigga, that’s not funny. I could’ve died.” I placed the death stick back in his hand and watched him in disgust. “But, I’m happy you’re amused.”

“Here, do it again.” He moved it to my face and I rejected his offer shaking my head ‘no’.

“I’ve had enough, thank you.” He took another drag and repeated the same action.

“Come on, man. I don’t want to do it on my own.” He made puppy dog eyes and fluttered his long lashes. I refused to succumb to his blatant manipulation and peer pressure.

“I said no, big nigga! Now hurry up before we get caught.” He laughed and finished off the blunt.

“Square.”

I smiled softly recounting that iconic moment in my life. Erik noticed my expression and spoke up gently. “What you smiling at?”

“You and how much shit you dragged me in.” He laughed sitting back in the chair beside me.

“Yeah, but you let me. I did as much as you allowed.” There wasn’t a lie in sight. If Erik asked me to jump, I didn’t even have to ask how high, I already knew. No matter what we did, I always knew that he had my back. I guess that’s why I followed him like a lost puppy, along with the attention he gave me that I so desperately needed.

“Yeah, I was stupid. But all that shit gone change when we turn forty, Craig.” Getting the reference, he laughed and placed his hand on mine squeezing lightly.

“You weren’t stupid, just in love.” Speechless, for the first time in my life, I was speechless because where is the lie? I couldn’t find it. Never have I ever been able to put how I felt about him into words and here he goes, with his all-knowing ass, telling me exactly how I felt about him. Telling me something that I would never admit out loud.

“Nigga, didn’t nobody love your wack ass.” My hand moved trying to lose his grip. He pulled it back effortlessly.

“Don’t lie.” His tone was serious now and I felt the tension from his body enter mine. This is why I hated physical touch. “Because I, unapologetically, loved your ass.” He sat up in his chair swinging his legs to where he was in between our chairs, staring at my body. His eyes were fixed on my frame, dancing over it, admiring my figure.

“You like what you see?” I tried to change the subject.

“Love it.” There he goes with that word again. “Sit up.” I did exactly what he said, my knees meeting his. “You loved me?”

“No.” He placed his hands on my thighs and pulled my legs open.

“Don’t lie, Leigha.” My body was off the chair as he picked me up and placed me on his lap.

“Erik, if- if you already know then why- why you need me to say it?” Pleased with my undoing, his lips turned up into a sinister smirk.

“Because I want to hear you say it with your words.” He kissed my cheek gently and took a puff from his blunt that I was suprised wasn’t finished yet. Keeping the smoke in, his lips met mine as he released the smoke in my mouth. I took it in like he taught me and then blew it out the side of my mouth. His lips met mine again and I instantly submitted to their passionate touch. A moan escaped my mouth while his groin touched my moist center. My body hasn’t been touched this way in years, his touch being the last, and it’s enjoying all of the attention. “Say it.”

Without missing a beat I uttered the three words I dread saying, “I love you.” With that, he pulled me closer to his chest, syncing our bodies together. I threw my arms around his neck deepening the kiss. His strong hands moved to my shoulders sliding the jacket off of my arms. The jacket hit the ground while his soft lips met my salty neck sucking and biting the exposed skin. Whimpers left my mouth and filled the air. “And I know what you’re thinking. No, we can’t fucking live without you. Tori was being a bitch, causing Kei to relapse. Jade went back to that abusive ass nigga that she won’t let me kill and Mia is just a sad, depressed, suicide case. Do you know how many hospital visits I had to make? The therapists, counselors. Nothing is working. You left us! We need you!” Quickly, my sadness turned into anger.

“How fucking dare you blame y’all fucked up life on me? Where the fuck were y’all when I needed help? Where were y’all when I was dealing with my crazy ass parents? Why the fuck am I always held accountable for y’all’s mistakes and life choices? I can’t cure depression or an eating disorder! Tori has always been a bitch and y’all know that! Y’all chose to stay here. Y’all could leave but y’all don’t!” The words left my mouth quicker than a freight train. I was not about to accept his abuse. None of that that was happening to them was my fault. We stood there for awhile staring and crying roughly. He tried to hold me but I rejected the contact. When he said nothing, I stormed through the door and grabbed my phone and keys.

“Leigha where were you?” Mia’s clingy ass asked. She saw my face and instantly softened her tone, “What happened? What’s wrong?”

“Fuck you, Mia!” That wasn’t the words that I wanted to say but that’s what came out. I was a mess.

“Bitch, what’s wrong with your dramatic ass?” Although the words were harsh, Tori was genuinely concerned as she ran after me with the other women while I ran to my car. I unlocked the car, opened the door and plopped down in my seat. Putting my key in the ignition I locked my doors, put the car in reverse and backed out. The women screamed words and beat on my car window begging me to stay and talk to them. I looked at the clock that read, 9:45. A few more hours and I would finally be back home. This place fucking sucks.

The ride back to the hotel was annoying and so was the ride to the airport. Surprisingly, Mia didn't show up, with the rest of them, at my hotel. I wanted to sleep away the emotions that Erik forced out of me, but I couldn't. Instead, I laid on the bed crying, for hours, begging the universe to take away the pain. I hated that he brought all of that up. He had no right to make me feel bad about their problems. I wasn't this kind of savior that they made me out to be. They needed professional help, all of them and I was just as fucked up as they were.

They all text me like crazy people. Between the five of them, I had over one hundred notifications: missed Facetime calls, audio calls, messages and even snapchats. These hoes were relentless.

One missed message stood out the most to me. It was a message from Tori, the wicked witch of the West:

-If you leave here without saying goodbye, make it a priority to not come back.

The words sat heavy on my chest. The audacity of her to think that I was going to come back, anyway.

Every Day My Confusion Grows

Cold air had cleared Maki’s head. Now there was not so much a cacophony of smells, crowd, noise closing around her, with everything Nico permeating the room. Now there was fresh air, free swinging arm movement, distant traffic noises, the crunch of snow, boot heels cracking through frosty crust, moonlight glinting off everything white and polished. And everywhere, in every sense, Nico. Who was humming happily, although Maki didn’t recognize the tune. But the pull was familiar, Nico’s voice wrapping around her senses, frissons of thrill connecting, the feel of Nico’s caresses etched by passion across her skin still vivid. The moon seemed so distant compared to this joy. Maki ran a couple of steps forward, bumping Nico. Nico laughed, merry bells and chimes of wonder, and Maki threw up her head in an ecstatic howl. Nico twirled, “Going to push Nico into the snow again, Princess?” Nico’s eyes twinkled.

“Change my name in your phone.” Maki demanded, feeling silly and bold, resisting the urge to bump Nico with her head. There was a new body language to learn, new moves to try. Maki pulled Nico close, tilting down to kiss the red lips that opened as a spark hissed between them, Nico’s tongue flicking Maki’s lips, Maki murmuring Nico’s name, need driving her to uncharted actions, so she pressed forward, lips tasting Nico’s cheek, ears, neck. Nico’s voice lowered, her mouth so hot near Maki’s ear, her voice another thrill as Maki heard her name whispered and moaned with vibrations that made her want to push Nico down in the snow right there, her hands ripping through Nico’s parka. Then Nico shivered. And Maki pulled her in, wrapping both arms around her, the silky smooth of Nico’s hair tickling her chin, and that was a new pleasure, Nico nuzzling into her, both of her arms pulling Maki closer, Nico breathing in everything Maki and then Nico’s scratchy mittens sliding under Maki’s shirt as she started kissing her way across Maki’s shoulder. They were both going to freeze, Maki thought, pulling back before Nico’s lips grazed her neck. She bent down and lifted Nico, bounding back to Nico’s house.

Nico unlocked the door and they fell into the foyer, Maki practically tearing off Nico’s parka, Nico nearly duplicating Nozomi’s favorite strategy, as she struggled with Maki’s shirt. Maki was completely undone, all instinct and action, Nico’s hands everywhere, Nico’s eyes gleaming in the dark, Maki’s fangs leaving little marks along Nico’s arms and neck as the singer traced her fingers back and forth across Maki’s neck, through the now wild hair, lips driving the werewolf into a whimpering frenzy. And then Maki’s ringtone went off again and she froze. Nico was suddenly holding a coil of confused, half dressed panic. The glorious lavender eyes were frantic, Maki’s gaze skittering everywhere in an effort to avoid Nico’s.

“Maki.” Nico forced her voice to be as soothing, as calming as she could, but Maki was already back at the door, tearing it open, howling as she leapt, what clothes that didn’t fall to the floor, Maki shredded with her claws as she became a red blur racing into the moonlight.

Nico stared, at the clothes, at the open door, at the space in front of her where girl had become wolf in a nearly instantaneous origami of weird angles and impossible melding. Clothes. Scattered. Shredded. Not being worn. Maki had been naked all that time. On the couch. Up against…Nico had been…

So that was what the world going dark felt like, Nico thought as her knees recovered some stability after a dangerous moment. Not pleasant. Not pleasant at all. But after a few minutes standing, silent, in the dark, pragmatic Nico returned, picking up Maki’s clothes, making sure to grab Maki’s phone. She’d have to call Maki’s mother to check the redhead got home safely. Nico groaned. So complicated. But Maki obviously had zero experience with…anything, and she had been so agitated and out of control when she bolted. Frantic. Nico hurried up the stairs and hit “Return Call.”

“Hello?”

“This is Nico. Is she there yet?” Nico was surprised by how concerned she sounded. What had it been, two weeks and here she was, breathless with worry over a skittish, gorgeous redhead, nudity and tail optional. And then Nico recognized a familiar snuffling sound coming through the phone. Princess, no Maki must have heard her voice. Nico smiled, just a little, picturing Maki eagerly nudging the phone.

“Get some sleep, pretty girl. Nico will drop off your phone tomorrow morning.”

Maki howled a response; Nico thought she sounded worried. What to say to be reassuring? And was her mom listening?

“Nico has plans tomorrow, but come over for brunch Sunday. Nico will cook.” There was a whine and suddenly Nico could see the scene in her head, Prin…Maki tilting up her head at her mother, the nod and then a short, determined howl.

“Good night, Maki. See you in the morning.”

A whine in response. Nico ended the call, restless, tired and with too much to think about.

Maki had refused to transform. Her mother had not been happy, but the absolutely last thing Maki wanted to do was talk. She had sprinted home, run up the treehouse, howled her heart out at the moon, informing the listening world of the change in her status, her voice a melody dedicated to the thrills of being caught by the lure of lips and sable and sensation.

After Nico’s call and an annoyed dismissal from her tired mother, Maki retreated to her bedroom, transforming, robe half tied, scenes from the night replaying in her head as her heart raced and she longed to hear Nico’s voice or have her there, near again, eager again, reaching again.

There was sleep, maybe, but Maki’s dreams were lost to memory, agitation and new awareness searching for avenues of expression, fear sneaking in as somewhere, Maki realized she had no idea what happened next, what was on the other side of the leap.

Last night, Eli had texted that she’d gotten Nozomi to sleep and described Nozomi’s faint. As she packed up some muffins to take to her friend, Nico wondered if Nozomi was overworked, ill or if there really was something weird going on at the theatre. Nico was a pragmatist; she knew all about theatre ghost rumors and made sure to avoid obvious jinxes, but in her heart of hearts, she believed in practical things like hard work, family, and friendship.

Now, the hot, very kissable girlfriend with bonus cute, furry ears and a tail was not really a practical thing, but Maki, while a little skittish, mostly just seemed shy, not dangerous or magical. And yet…Nico frowned. Maybe there were more things in this world than she had previously dreamt of…But surely Nozomi was merely a clever charlatan whose nosiness gave her an aura of awareness. Nico had been certain of that..yesterday morning.

Nozomi had been a bit too glad to see to see Nico, too free with the air kisses and “Nico-chi”s while a worried Eli watched from the bed. Tea was being served on the small table Nozomi had acquired. Singles in the Mid-Quads were large enough to move in, unlike the ones at the Plex. Nico had tried asking questions, expressing concern, but Nozomi had just dodged, finally just shoving her deck at Nico.

“If you won’t tell me how your date went, Nico-chi, the cards will. Shuffle.” Nozomi’s voice had an edge; Eli moved to the foot of the bed, watching Nozomi closely. Nozomi poured tea for herself, ignoring both of her guests as Nico shuffled.

“Three. Line them up. You know how it goes.” Nozomi ordered, her voice stripped of any warmth, curiosity or mischief. Nico raised an eyebrow at Eli, who shook her head and mimed dealing out the cards. So Nico did. Nozomi’s chortle when Nico turned them over was nearly a cackle.

Nico looked at the cards in front of her closely. First, that card with the dog, again. She would have suspected Nozomi of subterfuge but Nico had shuffled and drawn herself. Next to it was a flipped card with a two people holding cups, then another flipped card, two raggedy people trudging through snow in front of a church window…didn’t look cheerful, Nico thought. She should have stuck with drawing a single card. The first, with the dog, at least it looked warm and fun.

“Well.” Nico stared at her friend, who had her arms crossed and was only half looking at the cards.

Nozomi shrugged, her voice dismissive, “The Fool is a new phase, the 2 of Cups and the 5 of Pentacles, inverted, mean you have to beware of difficulties.” Nozomi’s voice got a little of its snap back and she leaned toward Nico, “Your ego is in the way, Nico-chi, of course, but you can move forward if you don’t let pride hold you back. So be nice to the redhead and remember she has feelings.”

And fangs, Nico thought, but her reply was a simple, “Nico knows.”

Nozomi took the cards back, reluctantly it seemed and shuffled the cards, much more anxious than Nico had ever seen, muttering. Nozomi turned to Eli, who nodded and moved to sit next to her. Nozomi flipped one card, a shining, naked, blonde woman pouring water into a pool. Nico shifted her glance to Eli and smirked, “So is that card a flashback or tonight’s plan?”

Nozomi recoiled, tears in her eyes, hands trembling, the deck dropping. Nico was almost sure the other woman hadn’t heard her at all. Eli just stared.

Nozomi stood, then threw herself on the bed.

“What the hell?” Nico pushed back from the table, demanding an answer from Eli.

Eli sighed, and moved to wrap an afghan around Nozomi, “The Star, reversed. Nozomi’s only been able to draw that or The Tower for a week. They’re not optimistic cards. She’s been having piercing headaches, at rehearsals and then at the party. She’s scared.”

Nozomi was still huddled, sobbing.

“Nozomi?” Nico asked quietly.

Eli sat next to Nozomi and wrapped an arm around her, Nozomi shifting to put her head in Eli’s lap, still ignoring Nico, “She’s been having problems since the first blackout at the theatre. The headaches getting worse every time she goes in and staying when she leaves.”

Nico kept hoping Nozomi would make eye contact or speak to her, but her friend just burrowed closer to Eli, “Why doesn’t she talk to a doctor? Or quit?”

Eli shrugged, “She’s been looking forward to this project and it’s a big chunk of what she’s promised her advisor.”

“Nozomi…” Nico sat on the other side of Nozomi and hugged her. Maybe Maki could find out if there was anything strange going on. Nico would have to smuggle in a…wolf, somehow, but if it was only Nico and the stage crew, that might work. Tsubasa seemed to like her.

Rin was off training so Hanayo didn’t have to explain much about her job yet. That could come later. She’d been called in to the tech sub basement this morning and wanted to be at least five minutes early. Walking through the noisy corridor, trying to remember unfamiliar steps, Hanayo saw the door was propped open, heard voices and slowed, not wanting to interrupt a conversation.

An unfamiliar voice was speaking, excited, “I can’t seem to find any time to chat up Yazawa, but since you’re making progress with Kashima, I’m going to focus on proving the werewolf is…”

Hanayo stumbled through the door, scared and surprised. Anju was sitting on the edge of the desk, another woman with shorter hair and green eyes not as bright as Rin’s leaning next to her.

“Sorry.” Hanayo squeaked as she fell into the room.

Anju smiled, “Five minutes early, as expected. Tsubasa, this is the assistant I hired, Hanayo Koizumi. She’s a freshman biochem major who can code. Hanayo, this is Tsubasa Kira, who started the whole project.”

Tsubasa winked at Anju as she extended a hand to Hanayo, “You give me too much credit, Anj. Welcome, Ms. Koizumi.”

“H…Hanayo’s fine.” Hanayo tried for a firm grip and decided since she’d walked in on a conversation, a question wouldn’t be unexpected. She let her nervousness shake her voice, “Did you say werewolves? Are they real? There’s a full moon soon…but surely they don’t…”

Anju giggled and took Hanayo by both shoulders, nodding to Tsubasa, “I told you she was adorable.”

Tsubasa stretched her arms in front of her, “Don’t worry about it, Hanayo. You won’t have to go stalking werewolves with me. We have a backlog of data for you from our primary location that needs to be sifted through, strictly stay in the office stuff. Erena and I handle the hunting, Anju’s the people person and you’re our computer cruncher.”

The excitement in Tsubasa’s voice when she mentioned hunting made Hanayo angry. Rin and Maki were both in danger. She needed more information. And an ally.

GETTTING INTO TROUBLE

My `heart pounded to the beat of my feet cycling over the hard ground, sweat trickled down my forehead causing my hair to cling, the rush of wind passing my face thrilled me, my muscle stretched as I pushed harder, I was wild with fear of losing Priyanka my best friend ever “I will fight for you no matter how hard the battle is”. All this actually started three days ago when I and Priyanka thought of exploring the countryside on our winter vacation .We started early in the morning in our bicycles ,the sun was shining warmly over the meadows around us, the morning stars peeped at us like silver asters ,glimmering ,the sweet surrendering scent of morning dew filled the forest with freshness all around ,it was two hours since we were riding so we thought of stopping and having some food .We ate few doughnuts and drank some juice and again started cycling . I saw few cows chewing the grasses from the meadow. “it must be awful to be a cow and eat nothing but tasteless grass” I said to Priyanka. “Think a cow never eats a chocolate éclair ,or an egg or even drinks cold drink” Priyanka laughed and said “you think of silly things sometimes” .We had fun riding the whole morning ,chit-chatting about silly things .Soon it was turning dark so we thought of finding a good place to put our tent. At night we ate few sandwiches, gingerbread and some juice. We thought of exploring the area around us so we walked with flashlights in our hands. The sky was already covered with a pitch black curtain. Soon we reached in front of an abandoned cottage .The cottage looked lonely and empty .The walls had crumbled .We went inside and saw the only furniture- table with an antique pedestal broken by the edges .It was getting colder so we thought of going back to the tent. After looking at the night sky for sometimes we went to sleep. Suddenly at night I woke up to some strange noise , I thought of going and finding out . I walked towards the sound and soon came in front of the same cottage when I suddenly saw a palm full of blood on the window .Terror held me with a vice- like grip ,I began to breath fast and hurried back to our tent ,an uncomfortable premonition of fear pervaded my senses. I whispered “Priyanka, wake up. I have something strange to tell you”. Priyanka would not wake up, she grunted. I begged”Priya please wake up “I was afraid of speaking out loud lest someone hears me, Priyanka woke up at last and I told “we are not alone here, there is someone in that old cottage” but Priyanka didn’t believe me and said “it is just a dream, go back to sleep we will talk about this later in the morning”.

The sun shine pricked my eyes and I was forced to wake up. As I got up I saw Priyanka was already up and was drinking water. Suddenly I remembered what I saw last night, I spoke to Priyanka about this again but she said “oh! I told you it was just a dream, that’s it no need to freak out so much “but I didn’t listen and just pulled her to the cottage and showed her the blood palm print. Priyanka said “so you were right, I think we should go to the police station”. We went back and packed all our stuff and were terrified to discover that someone had flattened Priyanka’s cycle, so we decided that I would go to the police station and Priyanka would wait until I return with the police. I cycled as fast I could but as soon as I reached the police station I found there was no one except a constable . I narrated him the whole thing and he told me to get my friend to the police station . I cycled back again ,I was almost there, I could see Priyanka waiting there for me but suddenly a ghastly whiteness spread over my face . I saw someone was there behind Priyanka who covered her mouth while pulling her into a car, there was a muffled scream “HELP HELP!”and then nothing. I was frozen to the spot and soon realized that my friend got kidnapped in front of my eyes and I could do nothing.

I chased the car as fast as possible, after some time it gained speed and I was left behind. I knew I had to get her back ,I remembered my promise of always standing by her …suddenly I had an idea, I took the shortcut through the meadows . I cycled fast and soon reached a house . I saw the car stopped and three men came out grabbing her from the car and went inside the house . I hid behind the trees .I blinked sweat from my eyesoo, there was no sound in the house yet everyone was moving, and saw after some time two men came out and drove somewhere out in the car ,now I thought of getting inside , I crept stealthily towards the house, the door was locked, I started to look for an alternative and luckily found an open window. I walked deliberately, I was not likely to attract any attention, suddenly I heard the sound of a squeaky chair from the room just beside the window. I was more cautious now. I peeped into the room and saw a man sitting in a chair and reading newspaper, I found it the right time to move further inside the house to find Priyanka. As I passed by the staircase I found a small door attached to it moving. I pushed open the door back and found Priyanka tied behind a rack. I untied her quickly and told her to be calm . As soon as we opened the small door to get out I saw the man was standing there angrily with a knife and was coming to stab us .

In a fraction of second I banged the small door and locked ourselves inside , the knife came through the door and got stuck in it . For a moment I thought we would be dead at any moment and my stomach turned into ice but fortunately right at that time I heard the sirens and heaved a sigh of relief . The police had come. Soon the police came in and arrested him and he confessed that after being shot last night by the police he went to hide in the cottage and thinking Priyanka was the one who saw him last night and fearing that she would inform the police, being the witness, he kidnapped her . We were praised by the police for our bravery and were told that he was most sought after by the police for committing several murders. The police were behind him since last two months. Then they dropped us home. Next morning newspaper carried our pictures with the caption “THE TWO VALIANT UNDAUNTED YOUNG GIRLS”

I dont want to sell the land, its been in the family to long and as they say you can only sell something once. On one side is a busy road with alot of passing traffic and on the other is a river. With university flats containing about 400-500 student across the road. It sits in the corner of 3 villages 1 is low income, 1 is low to mid income and the other is mid income. I though about converting the old shed into a coffee shop and running it myself and the cottage into an airbnb. However the shed would basically be a start from scratch and the cottage would need alot of work done as it has not been looked after so the outlay would be large for those which I assume would take far to long to repay itself. The premises has 2 entrances either side of the small cottage. I would be willing to generate money to invest back into it if I knew that it would recoup its self quickly. Ever idea I think of I check online to see how people with those ideas done and worryingly they all seem to struggle. Weather it be a coffee shop, barbers, soft play, unit rental, land rental. Obviously its the internet and you cant take peoples words as fact but reddit seems the only place that people are being truthful and helpful.Ideas pop into my head and seem to be shot down quite quickly when looking into them.land rental value atm is about £10,000 a year.On one hand I have an option to start a fresh doing something that I want to do but on the other hand I have a fear I could loose everything by making a bad choice.Any advice even the smallest suggestion would be great or further questions.Sorry for the rant I just though asking ideas from outwith family and friends.
