Stop yearning so desperately for the next best thing that you forget to appreciate the present. Sitting in a brand new BMW wishing it was a Bentley, chasing some elusive end point, and losing the magic of today. You do not have to keep pursuing, acquiring, moving. There can be satisfaction in contentment. There can be satisfaction in the now.

Habituation: The secret to not being shocked.
Those who have not fallen into the MAGA sphere shake their heads in wonderment at what his followers choose to ignore. I won’t lose any voters. They have become habituated to his behavior to a point where they seemingly will live his famous assertion, “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose voters.” While that claim was part of a boast about loyalty from…

the irony of cesare slutshaming juan for sleeping in brothels had me with tears in my eyes considering his very first scene in the show is him rawdogging a prostitute like his life depended on it...like babygirl we see you!!!
#like they're such whores i'm screaming!! but also so on brand when you think of it. since the real ones both were fucking sancia byeee#i believe the scene where cesare fucks that girl is just a glimpse of the show adapting the Real cesare's General Manwhorishness™ though!#if you're the borgia family enthusiast you already know that cesare has sired 7 illegitimate kids because of his romantic exploits lmao#cesare borgia i love your hypocritical ass fr like yessss#also love their rivalry so much because there's cesare who always wanna one-up juan in every aspect and be seen as the serious and driven#which is true about the hypercompetent and ambitious part!! but he fulfills his duty in the family in ways that are not conventional#meanwhile with juan...he fully embraces his hedonism and isn't ashamed of it. while he's aware that cesare outdo him in everything...#the only thing he has over cesare is his position as a gonfaloniere!! so he winds cesare up with flexing it!!!#the difference is cesare is as much as he hollers about doing everything for the family...he pretty much does it mostly for selfish reasons#his desperation for juan's position and rodrigo's attention made him sabotage the family more than persevering it etc#while juan is genuine but is reckless and incompetent but he Really tries yk? he really does! but he spiraled bc he feels weak and insecure#oh well both brothers are idiots in their own ways#i miss them fr#cesare borgia#juan borgia#the borgias#juan and cesare#text post

if your country has or could have commuter trains would you take a train to a destination cooly without thinking much of it OR would you play it a little coy whenever the train shows up to the platform and flashes open its sexy little doors at you yearning for your attention for you to fall into its mouth but you look away seemingly uninterested and as it closes its doors defeated and leaves the station and you catch a glimpse of all the seats and handles and even tables in some compartments and as it pulls away you allow yourself to shudder with pleasure at the sound of the engine and you think about what it would be like to get consumed by this megafaunal steel block so you show up to the station day after day never quite getting onto the train but giving it just enough teasing to build the tension between you and this 500 ton beast of steel and plastic and you want to be trapped like a little fly inside its maw and explore its teeth and throat and trachea and into its stomach and feel yourself dissolve into the walls and become one with it but that can't happen just yet maybe it can never happen and it certainly cant be of your own volition to step in and get swallowed because whats important to you is that the chase never ends whats important is that it can never catch you or else the fun is over it can never stuff you into its jaws because its locked into a destiny of eternal edging unless you give it release and you stand at its precipice with its teeth and tongue and lips slick with oily salivation but you never quite fall no matter how much the poor trapped train flaps its stupid pathetic flimsy doors and coaxes you with the desperate voice inside the cabin announcing arrivals and departures no what really gets you off is the cruelty of it all the way you can burden it with human desires far beyond its own capacity to form them the way you can transform its dutiful burden of carrying passengers to and fro into a frustrating hateful drive of pleasure and you hope that one day it'll slide off its steel guides and finally squish you like the bug you are like a little defenseless prey-thing so naughty for having teased it for so long you want utter annihilation at the hands of a great big nasty oily puffing charging engine with no care for its own life just solely wholly focused on getting you in, on, or around it and you want to make sure both you and the train become so twisted by the chase that the pleasure awaiting you at the destination can no longer be distinguished from the pain of the journey and the hedonism just keeps adapting to baser and baser wishes until sex and death are a singular simultaneous yearning? which one would you pick

Twst as Lana Del Rey Songs
I tried my best…so many different choices, please keep in mind that probably all of them would likely have multiple songs that represent them well or even share songs, either way this is all just for fun so yeah!!
Tumblr media
🐉: the whole song is apparently about death & love coming together, sleep=death, love= his relationships with the other characters
🦇: his whole life changed once he met Silver & Malleus
⚔️: it’s a song abt going/finding home
🐊: rlly difficult choice but this feels right- cherished every memory w/ his found fam (mostly) as his life is on the line during chapter 7, seems to carry bits & pieces of them to stay strong
Tumblr media
💀: in the name + the verses are abt the way things were with someone (the way things rlly were w/ Ortho) & the chorus was all thinking abt how things could’ve gone (Idia wishes Ortho had never overblotted)
🤖: Idia almost always says yes to him, hence the lyrics. He watches over Idia & is his heaven😔
Tumblr media
👑: he literally fears turning old + it’s apart of a movie soundtrack.
🏹: he loves everything & everyone, wants to live in the moment
🍎: similar to Ride, but seems to be abt how you can choose whether to be happy or sad, Epel could have overpowered his stubbornness if he originally tried adapting into Pomefiore
Tumblr media
☀️: his money protects him, sure, but the world’s problems will eventually catch up to him-displays his naivety
🐍: lyrics kinda sound like he’d be lamenting over his losses right before Azul turns his “live stream” on)
Tumblr media
🐙: he seems all nice & genuine until you realize he’s a mafia boss-
🍄: abt desire, longing, hedonism, the allure of the unknown- the lyrics themselves just straightforward, it’s all Jade-coded
🦈: his constant pursuit of hedonism
Tumblr media
🦁: he was actually happy in Savanaclaw this whole time, but kept chasing aft the crown even tho happiness was right beside him
🍩: bec of that 1 verse that’s like “we don’t need money, we can make it all work” but the guy leaves to go make money anyways
🐺: the song is abt self-expression, self-assurance, & inner power- very Jack mentality
Tumblr media
🌹: it describes his relationship w/ his mom & how he wants ppl to comfort him
☘️: he feels trapped w/ defending Riddle, also the revealer of his evil mom, lyrics show a hint of his sadist side, & he turned a blind eye to Riddle’s early tyranny, hence the storyline that goes w/ all the lyrics
♦️: abt living in the moment, appreciating ppl ard him. Love vs. ambitions, kinda sounds like someone trying to fit in
♥️: bec he’s no good for me:p + I feel the lyrics could literally describe his way of life & some of his morals
♠️: literally Deuce’s song😭😭!! Song abt starting over & self-discovery

For those who are reading Dorian Gray, I just want to emphasize something:
A lot of adaptations make Dorian’s breakup with Sibyl Lord Henry’s fault, either indirectly (through giving Dorian bad romance advice) or directly (taking him to a brothel instead of going to see Sibyl perform). For some reason, adaptations seem really adverse to portraying the breakup as-written, which is a problem, because this is so important.
Dorian’s breakup with Sibyl is entirely his own fault. It’s a sign that Dorian was never really that great of a person, independent of Harry’s influence, and that he’s already cruel before shit starts really going down. It also is a point towards my self-serving theory that the story is not a cautionary tale about hedonism, it is a cautionary tale about taking art too seriously. More on that to come!

Higgs Monaghan's MBTI + Enneagram Typology (pt. 1)
Tumblr media
(disclaimer: this is my opinion based on deep character study, eight or so years of special interest in typology, and subjective interpretation. if you wanna argue, good luck finding my PDB. friendly debate is fine.)
MBTI: ENTP (Ne-Ti-Fe-Si)
Enneagram: 7w8
Instinctual Variant: sx/sp
Tritype: 782
MBTI Analysis
This one is easy. Higgs displays all of the classic ENTP traits. He's well-read, adaptable, strategic, authentic, contrarian/anarchistic, charismatic, energetic, emotionally guarded, impulsive, and excessively idealistic. ENTPs come in two flavors: rebel with a cause, and rebel without a cause. The former typically has a strong alignment to enneagrams 1, 7, or 8, whereas the latter is more likely to be rooted somewhere in 6, 5, or 9. This can be a pull from within the tritype or wing, but we'll get to that. Higgs is, quite obviously, the former. His rebellious nature is driven by idealism first and foremost.
ENTPs are "introverted extroverts." They thrive in the spotlight, crave attention, and love being the loudest presence in the room. However, unlike "true" extroverts (i.e. see: ESFP) they require plenty of personal space and time on their own to nurture their inner worlds, reflect on their feelings and values, and retreat into the safety of their own private minds. In a reasonably healthy ENTP, this time is often spent pursuing knowledge, fresh ideas, and deeper meaning in the world, through things like literature, arts, and creative pursuits or pet projects. In an unhealthy ENTP, that focus goes towards obsessions, fixations, and hedonism. Such as... making a conspiracy board, covering the walls in manic writings and pictures of their no. 1 enemy, and drinking... a lot. Hello, Higgs.
Function Stack Breakdown
ENTP's cognitive function stack is Ne-Ti-Fe-Si.
Ne (extroverted intuition): First and foremost, ENTPs live in a world of possibilities. Like INTJs, they live somewhere between their minds and bodies, existing in a nebulous sense of insight and personal sentiment. Where INTJ sees how the world "should" be, ENTP sees the world as it could be. This trait is amplified intensely by a core fix in enneagram 7, which many consider to be ENTP's most likely/common enneagram alignment. Ne is constantly tinkering with a thousand ideas at once, scattered in all directions. Higgs embodies this beautifully; he is an intrepid explorer, both in the material world and in the realm of ideas and philosophies, shown by his love of literature, his hands-on approach to life, his sensory fixations (must! touch! everything!), and his deep investment in history. He takes external ideas in and challenges them, redefining them to his liking. This shows in his adoption of the ancient Egyptian aesthetic/practices after reading about them, his poetry references, his adjustment of literary quotes to change the meaning ("sound and righteous fury"), and his overall fascination with the world around him.
Ti (introverted thinking): ENTPs prefer to act based on logic over emotion, processing the world through what makes sense and where their curiosity takes them. They love puzzles, problems in need of solutions, and detail-oriented issues. The Ne-Ti axis makes an educated, mature ENTP a capable, adaptable strategist who always has a plan and the ability to craft an entirely new plan B, C, D, etc, all the way to Z on a moment's notice. They're rarely shaken by change, likely to relish the challenge presented by unpredictability. This shows in Higgs' accomplishments both as a porter and terrorist, earning him a reputation as "a damn good leader" and later, a fearsome foe with the presence of "a ruthless emperor" (thank you, DS novel Sam). As highlighted by the novelization, his leadership pre-Amelie was defined by idealistic yet practical solutions. He was insightful and precise in determining that the resource shortage wasn't a shortage at all, but an issue of unequal distribution brought on by greed, corporate hierarchy, and distrust. He showed people that they didn't need to sacrifice freedom in exchange for security, they only needed to pitch in and share fairly, and he backed his promises up with results and an olive branch by cooperatively setting up a new distribution system and bringing supplies from his territory in the West. Meanwhile, in the intellectual sense, Higgs is a skeptic. Due to his mental roots in Ne, he wants to believe in things, but he can't until he's thoroughly questioned them, examined them from all angles, and tested them. When Ne says "jump," Ti says "wait." This causes a constant push-pull between reckless impulsivity and calculated caution. Thus, Higgs is inquisitive and curious, with Sam describing him (again, in the novel) as a truth-seeker, reminding him of a philosopher. In line with the classic image of the ENTP personality, Higgs thrives in a vast marketplace of ideas and values, picking and choosing the ones that suit him after playing with each and every single one of the available options, especially if he has someone to bounce his thoughts off of. ENTPs are masters of the "yes and," but due to their weaker Fe-Si axis, they're also vulnerable to being manipulated and exploited for their ingenuity and inexhaustible drive. Higgs dives head-first into Amelie's promises, but then spirals when he realizes she's not telling him the whole truth. He intuitively knows when someone is hiding things from him and he isn't content to just let it go. If answers aren't freely given, he'll form his own and act upon them. "If there's another layer to this, I can't work it out -> Dear diary, today I nuked Middle Knot City."
Fe (extroverted feeling): Herein lies ENTP's soft side. Contrary to popular belief, the feeling function of MBTI goes much deeper than simple emotions; it determines moral direction (inward vs. outward) and social dynamics. Fi (introverted feeling) pushes against the grain, concerning *my* feelings and values, whereas Fe goes with the grain, concerned with *our* feelings and values. Fi is a rugged individualist, Fe is a team player. The tertiary function is a point of conflict for all personality types, and it doesn't usually develop until middle age unless significant trauma work or self-awareness development occurs earlier in life. Higgs has both. His early journals show the expected disconnection with his feeling function, as he resists the idea of group values, and denounces the notion of community as unsafe and unrealistic. This is why many ENTPs, especially below the age of 40+, are considered insensitive and disruptive; they haven't developed the balance between nitpicky Ti and open-hearted Fe. After shaking off his instinctive and learned aversion to group attachments, Higgs quickly does a 180 into "I'm an altruist now" and dedicates his life to serving others, going so far as to "offer my soul to this world while I live." More about this when it comes to his emotional center in enneagram 2, which amplifies his Fe. Overall, Higgs displays high Fe and thus has high empathy. He makes strong use of the Ne-Fe axis to imagine others' viewpoints and feelings, making attempts to step outside of himself to try and understand others on a deeper level. Anything an ENTP can understand, they can work with. Thus, they can be highly forgiving when there's a good explanation and they're not likely to hold grudges if they can relate. Here's hoping that factors into DS2.
Si (introverted sensing): The inferior function is every MBTI type's greatest weak point, second only to the "blind" eighth function which is essentially not consciously used at all. The inferior function acts to balance the dominant function, kicking in as a rescue mechanism when the usual approach fails or stress overload causes the given personality to begin breaking down. Being forced to use this function otherwise requires conscious effort and is, in turn, highly stressful and overwhelming. The inferior is an area of insecurity and discomfort. ENTP's inferior is Si, meaning they struggle with seeing projects through to the end, handling the day-to-day minutia of life, learning from past mistakes, and neglecting physical health due to poor internal bodily awareness. And oh boy, Higgs displays this in spades. Granted, he's absolutely suffering from chiral contamination and mind control don't forget the mind control but... still. His house is a wreck, he appears to eat little more than pizza, alcohol, and soda, he struggles with the gravity of life not bending to his idealistic efforts. Further, he believes it's on him to save the world all by himself despite evidence to the contrary, and this isn't even based in a god complex, he's just that caught up in what he wants to achieve and he can't see past it to why that's an unsustainable attitude. He creates unrealistic expectations for himself, punishes himself for *checks notes* being human, and is constantly seeking new, sweeping solutions to Fix Everything™ instead of spending his time putting in the work and giving himself breathing room to let his efforts pay off. He doesn't take stock of the good he's done, the things he's accomplished, the way people looked up to him (these folks called him King Midas!!), he simply pushes forward to the next big thing, fashioning himself Atlas with the burden of the world weighing down upon his shoulders. Always planning, always moving, incapable of sitting still or tolerating boredom.
Final thoughts before moving on
Overall, Higgs is like most ENTPs (who are sadly much more common in fiction--usually as a quirky protagonist or witty, Joker-esque villain) in that they are dynamic personalities, the best of whom have brilliant minds and restless spirits that create an even mix of genius and madness, and the worst of whom become internet trolls (Higgs is not immune to this, cough cough, the pizza emails) who provoke people for fun with little regard for others' needs or feelings. ENTPs have a quiet, soft side that's quite sensitive, fears judgment, and craves attention/validation. Once appropriately matured and self-aware, these personalities become surprisingly empathetic, directing their high-energy zest for life into everything they touch. Higgs is a beautiful, beautiful representation of the mature-but-unhealthy ENTP.
(part two: enneagram deep dive)

@ilarual YOUR TAGS ON THIS POST ARE SO REALLLL I had to make a separate post about it
cas canonically does not angst about liking men. liking one man in particular yeah, but not about being gay in general. in an AU though? he literally comes from a fundamentalist xtian """community""" (cult) that has a disproportionate level of power over the lives of the general public. everyone in the cult is a huge narc, including himself. one of the only trustworthy people is his big sister who ran away and went no contact years ago. His mother is a CONVERSION THERAPIST who, let’s be real, probably isn't great about the autism either. too. i don’t get people who think cas’ backstory is impossible or even difficult to adapt to a mundane setting because the parallels are blatant and everything hints towards cas being deeply closeted.
I mean fuck, remember how balthazar was like “wow i’m so glad i rebelled and get to do whatever i want now including have obscene amounts of gay sex” and s6 cas was like :O you're using your freedom for HEDONISM? instead of SERVING THE CAUSE??? meanwhile he had spent the last year watching dean rake leaves in dead silence. and that's a cas whose family were only homophobic in the metaphorical and not literal sense. AU cas is not going to figure out that he's gay without a real fight!

Not to be a total Ray apologist (especially now at all times!) but I am somewhat irked at the way Top and some online opinions talk about Ray "dragging" Mew into his destructive lifestyle as if Mew is an innocent lamb being led astray. Mew is an adult who knows exactly what he's getting into with Ray - he's spent the past couple of years chastising him over said lifestyle, and he knows it's driven by Ray's substance abuse and mental health issues. Yes he's heartbroken so isn't making the best choices, but he is still responsible for those choices . Ray, however is an addict. We know this, Mew knows this, Ray denies knowing this. The idea that the addict is more responsible than his non-addict friend (who is very much cognizant of addict's addiction) when said friend decides to dip his toes into the self-destructive world of said addict...well, that's something. People rightly criticised Ray for demonstrating a type of 'poverty tourism' during ep 5 and as far as I can see, Mew's actions seem to be something similar, because we all know it's not going to stick - he's going to try on the unhealthy hedonism shoes cos he's pissed and heartsick, but he can take them off whenever he wants, whereas for Ray those shoes are cement blocks made from childhood trauma which are dragging him down to an early death (as Mew himself prophesied only an ep ago!).
On an entirely unrelated note, my two favourite First moments in this ep were 1) the adorable little noise he made after Ray asked him to help him/pulled out the 'na?' and 2) after Ray asks if he really doesn't want to talk to his dad, there's a second where you can see him imagining it before he sort of shakes himself out of it - it's such a lovely and subtle moment. And I think it's a pattern that repeats in his interactions with Ray - we see him allow himself to fall under his spell, or live in the moment, imagine what his life could be, and we also frequently see him give a little shake of the head and a rueful smile as if to gently knock some sense back into himself. Like we saw in ep 5, his life follows a routine necessitated by his financial situation and the emotional walls he's built up as a result of this and perhaps his romantic history, and he acts like he's fine with it, but then little cracks sneak in now and then that serve to remind him he's just surviving, not thriving. And I do think he's okay with not knowing his dad, and of course he's right about families not having to be mum/dad/child, but still, there's that wistful moment of 'what if' that seems to be a recurring theme throughout his story.
That's a great point about Mew being able to live Ray's addictive lifestyle with none of the longterm consequences; it's definitely a nice callback to Ray's poverty tourism and the ways in which these characters are adapting to other characters' lifestyles and being let into their world. Ray got to see Sand's world and became more empathetic towards him in the process. Maybe this foray into the world of drugs, alcohol, and hard partying will show Mew something similar about Ray? Specifically regarding his own criticisms.
I want Mew to open his eyes to his own errors when chastising Ray about drugs and alcohol. I want Mew to understand that simply lecturing someone and looking down on them isn't enough to make them quit. I want him to see why Ray has turned to these methods of release, and why even if he tried, he wouldn't be able to get himself out easily. This could be a groundbreaking moment for Mew to get to experience a fraction of what Ray is going through (not on a psychological level exactly, but as far as the addictiveness of drugs and alcohol). And yeah, Top's anger over Ray corrupting Mew is frustrating, because he acts as if Mew is a little puppy on a leash, going whichever way Ray pulls him. We know for a fact that Mew is capable of making his own decisions, and whether or not he's going through a heartbreak doesn't change that. He's letting himself fall, and he can ultimately only blame himself; he knows what he's getting himself into with Ray.
(Sidenote, but this is such a big blow to Ray--agreeing to be with him only when you're at the lowest of the low and your judgement is impaired. Mew is winning friend of the year once again...)
First! I agree--he does a great job with subtlety as far as making us aware that he is curious about what it would be like to know his dad. One of the reasons I think First is so good in this role is that he's excellent at portraying the little cracks in Sand's facade, whether it's about Ray or his father. He's good at acting one way but clueing the audience in that he really feels another way. I'm not an actor, but I suspect executing all of those emotions would be really hard to do.
Speaking of Sand though, I just. Want to wrap him up in a hug and tell him that he deserves better. (But also, SandRay endgame PLEASE.)

What have you manifested and I feel like people don’t talk abt how different they really feel when they’re living their dream life. Like is it really that easy ?
I’m still probably never going to make a mega post of everything I’ve manifest till this point just because I think there are so many out there and mine won’t serve any difference. But I did draft this post a year ago, and even since then I’ve done so much more and my life has only gotten easier and better ! I hope this can kind of gage obviously how happy & grateful I am and continue to be.
I also see other bloggers get comments like, well you don’t seem happy, or how are you already used to it, I’ll never stop being happy. I know it’s surprising but you will. I talked about this earlier but I can’t find the post so I’ll just say it again. No matter how much you have, the capacity you have to be happy forever is limited.
This concept is better known as the Hedonic Treadmill. This is the idea that even when life gets better, our happiness and appreciation for it eventually wears off and goes back to what is called our “baseline” or default level of contentment.
The Hedonic Treadmill is the idea that we can get used to any improvement in our lives. In other words, when something gets better in our lives, we eventually adapt to it, whether it be in our job, lifestyle, financial outlook, or any other aspect of life. Over time, our happiness returns to this baseline level and we no longer feel the sense of elation or appreciation we once did when the situation first improved.
To better explain this concept it’s important to look at the history of the term. It was originally coined by British psychologist Michael Eysenkek in the 1960s, and he explains the idea that “human beings have a limited capacity for happiness, and thus when their quality of life improves they soon adjust and return to their former level of contentment.”
In other words, the Hedonic Treadmill is the idea that no matter how much our circumstances or environment improve, we always return to a state of baseline contentment. This is due to our psychological ability to adjust and adapt to new changes quickly.
We also see this in lottery winners which shows the effects of their happiness no matter how much they won wears out, in about 2-3 years. I’m even seeing this in my own family. If you want to always be happy and living your best life, even after the void you’re going to have to continue doing the work to do so. Will it be hella easier? Yes. That doesn’t mean stop improving your life

Oh man i'm really sorry you have to deal with so many anons being weird in your inbox!! It's really strange to me how many people within the goth lit space try to stir up shit about people having different takes or views of a character, especially if it's of a character they like. It's like an epidemic of people unwilling to critically analyze or dig deeper into the texts and characters they enjoy beyond what they already have, trying not to put it too harshly! That aside I GREATLY enjoy reading and hearing about your crossover AU and views on different characters! I really love scenarios where Adam/The Creature doesn't khs at the end of the book and instead has to deal with the guilt and grief of his past actions and how that presents itself over time! I hope you have a good rest of day!!
Thank you so much. this fandom can definitely be a little trying from time to time. But for the many many people I engage with who are genuinely awesome it's worth it.
I am right there with you on the creature surviving to the end of the story. I love Frankenstein but was left unsatisfied with the ending and I really love exploring the character in a way that lets him process and reflect on his actions. I feel like he showed a lot of growth at the very end of the story and his character has so much potential that I kind of ended up latching on and adapting my own version of him. When Adam says he has "love in him the likes you can scarcely imagine" I believe him, and I believe he would like nothing more than to be able to express that side of himself. I still won't defend his choices.
The same goes for Jekyll/Hyde and Erik. Even if I'm sometimes critical of these characters I do love them and I see their potential and even their good qualities, because they do have them.
When Gaston Leroux said "He had a heart that could have held the entire empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar" I believe it. That doesn't mean Erik did nothing wrong or wasn't toxic but I fully agree that the capacity for goodness and even greatness are there.
I believe Jekyll when he says he's horrified by the things he does as Hyde, I believe that he is a character that wants to be a good person but being Edward Hyde and giving in to the violence and hedonism feels too good to give up and he feels guilt and shame for it.
I write and draw these character because of how much I love them and I would honestly love them a lot less if they weren't flawed or tragic because they would be so much less interesting to me.

We need more non-Dracula classic vampires adaptations so the guy doesn't become an amalgamation of all!
It's come to the point that "a vampire" and "a dracula" are interchangeable
They really deserve their own spotlight!
"The Vampyre" has potential to be a film or a series if the right script fleshed out Ruthven's other victims outside of Aubrey and his loved ones. A good gothic horror romp that looks like it'll be your classic Romantic Dark Noble Vampire at the start...until Ruthie takes off the safety and goes full torturous undead serial killer monster mode.
"La Morte Amoureuse" is probably one of the best, if not the best, classic representation of a morally ambiguous (leaning towards progressive in her hedonism, considering the staunch and starched dry contrast she beckons Romuald away from) but genuinely loving vampire. She's romantic, she's powerful, she's bawdy, and the story never demonizes her for it. At the same time, the tragedy of it and of how her own slowburn attempts to be with the priest leads to the sad end and her heartbroken departure... God, that would work deliciously today. Begging for an opulent Filme.
"The Family of the Vourdalak" lands perfectly in the middle, painting a vampire's love as immediately, inescapably dangerous. If you are loved, you Will be turned, no allowances made for dithering or silly things like consent. If you are not loved, you're slaughtered. It's a vampire type that acts in terrifying extremes. Doubly so for how frighteningly durable they turn out to be while not subscribing to Sexy Bloodsucker appeal, instead becoming full greyed-out sentient eternal corpses. I could see a24 jumping on this in a heartbeat to really sell the whole 'There Are Fates Worse Than Death' aspect.

Hey since I also have threeleaves brainrot: do u have any opinions on how Kingsley's style might adapt as he goes on? Since when he was "born" he hated Molly's coat and thought it was tacky. But now seems to be leaning into the big sparkly red coat and tall boots look?
On the other hand, the official art seems to suggest that he had Molly's face tattoos removed. Which I get, but.... still makes me sad 💔😭😭😭
i always ascribe to the idea of king being the reconciliation of lucien and molly's souls a la tneol so i imagine his sense of style to be a healthy mix of both. I can see why he, at first, found mollys fashion distasteful seeing as he was very much Not molly and didn't want tht identity shoved onto him. But i can imagine the more comfortable he gets with his life and sense of self, he'd loosen up more i guess on past opinions. The 3leaves have a flair for the dramatics after all, so while he may not be into the bright colors like molly, he'd have his own way of making a statement. Also ik u only asked abt Kingsley but ill get into my 3leaf fashion his bc they're all so different and i love them <3
Lucien: ik the book said he liked those rlly deep cut shirts but tbh i think thts the most Risqué hell get lol. Lucien to me has a very modest fashion sense, as in function is more important than looks, and hes fine with it so long as its durable. He favors darker colors and prefers looser easy to move in clothes tht can protect him from the elements. Maybe its the former urchin kid in him tht wanted to survive the run and not draw too much attention to himself 🤔 Anyways i also personally think he wld rlly like skirts and dresses (this has nothing to do with my latest Lucy drawing but alas). As always, performance is a big theme for him, so i think he wld have clung to the idea of looking intimidating and wld have a hard time letting go of the specific image of what being the nonagon looks like in bis head. But without the weight of tht title and maintaining appearances, as well as getting to actually explore his gender and presentation, i think lucien wld rlly enjoy nice flowy skirts and dresses. Still very low key with little to no jewelry tho
Molly: what is there to say tht has not been said abt our favorite tacky tiefling!!! His appearance is like the picture definition of hedonism, getting intricate tattoos and wearing the brightest most garish clothes in existence. Regardless, i think its touching how he woke up with no memories knowing he had a dark past, and deciding to make his body his own. A complete 180 from lucien in terms of appearance and thts exactly how molly wld have wanted it. In regards to gender presentation, he wldnt have the same hangups lucien wld so molly did whatever the hell he wanted and he looked good doing it!!
Kingsley: oh man ok. So he doesn't have the same taste as molly regarding bright and tacky clothes but hes not like lucien who's a function over fashion person. Instead, he makes a statement in a way thts a good mix of both. Whereas lucien is more rough around the edges and molly is bright and colorful, king is more sleek i think. Black, gold, silver, hints of red or cool tones. Dark coats befitting of a pirate captain, tasteful jewelry, etc. Dramatic in his own way, goth instead of glam rock. Maybe in the beginning he kept it plain to figure put what he liked without the burden of other identities being pushed onto him but after, he develops a look thts very much himself :)

Thread of Species Features
-if you don't know, hi I'm working on a fantasy type game called Witch Tuition, this thread is mostly to set in world building on my notable fantasy race features. Also all of these designs i will be using one way or another for my game, so im treating them like ocs lol
-dwarves, orcs and other such wont be here if they wont differ from standard fantasy
First up is the human race - the Atlans! Created by the god of magic that holds up the world Atlas As an example is the Dealer Yvonne, her purplish tinge is due to her practically hotboxing herself with potion fumes, incense, smoking and other stuff -making her poison resistant
Tumblr media
The adaptability works similar to vaccines so an exaggerated scenario would be like: if you just drop an Atlan not adjusted to a frozen tundra, they'll freeze to death. But if they're conditioned to the environment for a few months or so, then they can walk out in summer clothes
Next are Elves! I'm open to adding more, these are the most frequent. In Order Left-Right there's: Light/Dark/Nature I'll continue in their own tweet but generally, Light Elves hail a nobility of scrying glyphs, Dark Elves live more hedonic and have cave parties, Nature is Nature
Tumblr media
Light Elves were always the most connected to magic due to they're fey ancestry, yet the creation of telescopes by the dwarves propelled them into nobility. it allowed them to scribe constellations onto glyphs and runes, teaching other races to properly harness magic and riches
Tumblr media
Elf and Dwarven relations greatly deteriorated after the production of telescopes, dwarves responsible for the creation did not see a modicum of the credit for the creation by the light elves. The dark elves invade the mountain and underground spaces. and nature elves are neutral
Originally light elves, they transform through a ritualistic scorching after the discovery of eldritch beings beyond the constellations This discovery led them to be influenced by the beings, so as their own society, they decided to live more for themselves and party a lot
Tumblr media
Dark elves within their own civilizations are pretty open to other races Despite light elves looking down on them, dark elves don't hold malice, as it would transfer to their own children. They also don't force the ritual on their kids, most do just choose to undergo it
Nature elves live more secluded societies after finding primordial magics, some of which transition to druids The first druids were the fae creatures attuning to the chaotic lands of the fae, the rituals to become one very much depend on the planet’s primordial magics
Tumblr media
All fae creatures have a unique inner flame that connects them to the fae, which is why fae creatures live longer, especially when within said realm. The primordial magic that allows nature elves to attune to nature, instills elves to view beyond themselves, hence the androgyny
-to reiterate these are just common of their societies, but a nature elf can be rugged and not that, light elf can be down to earth n such also the ears are definite
Tumblr media
3rd are Daemen! They are the cursed firstborn to those who either make deals with devils or slay powerful demons. The curse is meant to keep their mark on the mortal world so they still have a connection to return Here is a rival concept for the example
Tumblr media
Here's the patterns of each domain, realistically it could be any demon powerful enough to cast a curse or devil lucky enough for a contract these examples are the most common of their domain's strongest demons. I also didn't forget her tail it's just not visible
Tumblr media
realistically also, the demon invasions could be ended completely if after a few years nobody makes devilish contracts and adventurers who kill demon generals just don't settle down, but that's why it hasn't they gotta play cheap, you always lose something against the demons
Part of the Hybrids are the humanoid Animal Race, they take on physically any of the animal aspects they inhibit
animal human hybrid type of people would still be classified under a hybrid, tho they are exceptionally rare since, most don't want to marry animal hybrids
Tumblr media
Elemental Hybrids (Hybrid is more of an umbrella grouping) share ancestry with primal fae spirits of the land
Water and Fire elements can control their temperatures and become amorphous at will outside of cold environments
Air and Earth elements can bend air and earth with ease
(The Water and Fire hybrids I thought would be really cool, hopefully i can use them in the future. Their names are Diana and Layla and rival dancers :> )
Tumblr media
Finally Half Giants! Descendances of actual giants who live more nomadically. Half Giants collectively live in harsh environments, born with birth markings said to be their individual destinies
For this example is the Carpenter Orin, who'd sell you decor, display cases and such

Anime Year in Review
Last year I made a silly post ranking the three shows I happened to watch. This year, I got way more into anime (and manga), so let's do it properly this time
Revue Starlight* - Easy top star spot. This anime was flawless. I watched it twice this year and will be watching it again. The story, the animation, the music were all impeccable. The music, oh my god; I listen to the soundtrack every day. Some of my other favorites on this list I'd only recommend based on your personal tastes, but this show should be watched by everyone. (The sequel and spin-offs, not so much. They all use the revues in a way that completely undermines the premise of the main series)
Heavenly Delusion - So fucking good. Second on this list, but I think it's the best show that came out this year. Deeply traumatic, but in such a satisfying way. The horror elements were so brutal and so well done, and I love that the man-eating monsters were the least gruesome part of the show. If it wasn't for the stinker of the ice monster episode, I think this could've been my favorite anime
Call of the Night* - Adored this show. Yes it's a celebration of the hedonism of vampires, but it's so earnest and down-to-earth with it that it feels so good to watch that I did it twice (sub and dub). I also got into the manga, which is sadly wrapping up next month, but hopefully that prompts an announcement about season 2
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Super chill show, which is a great way to wind down the week. It's such a cool concept too, following the adventurer after the adventure is over. It's just a reflection on life and I love it
The Witch from Mercury (cour 2) - Given that I run a sideblog just for this show, it might be surprising that it's so low on my list, but the second cour was a lot weaker than the first. Not nearly enough of Suletta and Miorine interacting, and way too much chaff following Guel's B-plot. I've said it before, but I think the worst part of this Gundam show is that it's a Gundam show. A+ epilogue though, and Suletta is still my favorite character this year
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - I enjoyed the original comic and the live action movie. I didn't realize this new adaption was really a sequel, but it ended up being a great way to bring the old story to the modern decade. (Two decades later isn't much, but it was very of-its-time)
Spy x Family (cour 2) - Very fun show. Following several viewpoint characters means the individual episodes might be hit-or-miss (as much as I love Anya, the episodes at the school are relatively bland), but the overall package was sweet and enjoyable
Nimona - Another comic I really enjoyed. The movie was strong, although it cut a lot of parts out that I thought were important to the original story
The Orbital Children - Directed by the same person who directed one of my long-time favorites (Dennou Coil), the first two acts of this really felt like a modern update. Stunning visuals, great sci-fi, thrilling adventure. Went totally off the deep in the third act, though
Joshiraku* - As the characters pointed out, adapting a manga that takes entirely inside the green room of a stand-up comedy club is an odd choice. It was off-the-charts hilarious, though. Considering some of the scripts were entirely pun-based, it must've been an immense amount of work to translate, but they absolutely pulled it off
Oshi no Ko - The only reason I watched this show was because the OP was such a banger. (Several fantastic anime songs by YOASOBI this year, and Idol is easily my favorite.) The first, feature-length episode was incredible and I literally cried at the end. If it was a stand-alone movie, it would be a couple of spots higher on this list. The rest of the show was fine, but not really what I was here for. I'll probably still watch season 2 though
Arknights: Prelude to Dawn* - I bounced off the gacha game immediately, but the worldbuilding and character designs seemed cool, so I wanted to give the anime adaptation a chance. The plot was very thin but serviceable enough. At least it looked nice to watch.
The Magical Revolution of ... - Not typing that whole thing out. It was a cute show. The yuri stuff was nice, but I wish for a show about a magical inventor, there was a non-zero amount of magical inventing shown on screen
* indicates the show aired prior to 2023
A lot of shows I really loved this year. Looking forward to next year, the anime I'm most hyped for is obviously Dungeon Meshi. It looks like it's going to be incredible. The second season of Arcane is also scheduled to come out late next year, which is also very exciting. Technically Frieren has a second cour in January, but they're airing both cours as basically a single 24-episode season, so that doesn't really count
For older shows I mean to catch up on, YouTube has recced me clips of probably every single joke from K-On!, and it's really grown on me. Definitely going to watch that soon. I'm also in the mood to watch Bocchi the Rock! again. I should also make myself watch the first couple episodes of PMMM. Nothing I've seen on Tumblr has grabbed me for that one, but it's right in the middle of some of the other shows I was gushing about here and it would be dumb not to try it
