jj maybank x reader, short lil best friends to lovers + love confession, 1.6k
“Holy shit, he’s here and I’m not ready yet! J, go stall for time!” You exclaimed, angling your head towards your bedroom, where JJ had been camped out on your bed for hours now, having been the poor soul relegated to help you choose an outfit for your date tonight. The doorbell had just rung whilst you were in the middle of doing your makeup, nearly sending you into a frenzy.
“Got it!” He yelled back, heaving himself to his feet and stomping down the hall to answer the door, albeit a bit begrudgingly.
There was nothing he wanted to do less than make small talk with yet another guy that wasn’t him taking you on a date. But you asked, and JJ always did what you asked. It came with the territory of being head over heels in love with your best friend.
He plastered a neutral look on his face, pulling open the front door only to be met with some dude who he vaguely recognized as being one of Sarah’s slightly less stuck up Kook friends—Preston who the fuck knows what. Probably some fancy ass last name like Berkeshire. Harrington. Vanderbilt. Something hyphenated, or with a Jr. or II tacked on the end of it.
Preston something or other looked a bit surprised to see him standing on the other side of the door but recovered quickly, guy nodding at him suavely. “Hey man. Is Y/N here?”
“She’s almost ready.” JJ replied, leaning against the doorframe with crossed arms. Preston nodded again, shifting on his feet. He looked nervous, JJ noticed. Good. Then he noticed the bouquet of flowers clutched in his hand. “Carnations, huh?”
“Yeah, you think she’ll like them?” He straightened the cellophane surrounding them, tucking a stray leaf back into the bunch.
“Oh, totally.” JJ was being one hundred percent sarcastic, but Preston didn’t know that. If he really knew you at all, he would know that you hated carnations. That you thought they were tacky and too bright. And if JJ wanted to be a good guy, he’d tell Preston before he made the wrong impression on you. But he wasn’t going to. He knew he probably should, but he wasn’t going to. Call him selfish. “So tell me, Preston, what’s the agenda for tonight? Where are y’all going?”
“Uh, nowhere special. Dinner at that new bistro on Main and maybe a walk around town afterward.” Preston chuckled awkwardly, licking his lips.
Damn it. That was actually a really good date idea.
“Preston, hi!” You interjected breathlessly, rushing past JJ to give the other boy a brief hug. “Sorry to keep you waiting, I hope this one didn’t tell you too many embarrassing stories about me.”
“I would never.” JJ mock gasped, pressing a hand against his chest.
“Yes, you would.”
“Alright, maybe I would.” He shrugged. “Anyways, whatever! Get outta here, kids, go have fun. Not too much fun though, Preston my man! No funny business, have her home by eleven, yadda yadda.”
“Bye, J. Try not to burn down the house while I’m gone.”
“I’ll try my best.” He saluted you, ignoring the warmth in his chest when you rolled your eyes playfully at him. Then you were gone, leaving JJ alone.
He did admit, he worked himself up a little too much waiting for you to come home. Maybe he almost paced a hole in the floor just thinking about what could happen if this date actually went well. He could see it now, ten, fifteen years into the future—you were a Figure 8 trophy wife with two kids who looked annoyingly just like Preston, and JJ was still here on the southside, hopelessly in love with his happily married, Kook-converted best friend.
Okay, maybe he was overreacting a little bit, but he couldn’t help it. Nothing he did seemed to quell the thoughts ping-ponging around in his brain; all he could do was wait for you to come home and tell him everything, like you always did.
-------
He straightened up the second he heard your key twisting in the lock, swinging his legs down to the floor from where they’d previously been hooked over the back of the sofa. Play it cool, bro.
“That’s it!” You huffed, throwing open the front door and traipsing inside, kicking off your shoes before flopping down next to him rather dramatically. “I’m calling it now! I’m never gonna find anyone!”
JJ thumped your forehead from where your head had landed in his lap upon landing. “I take it the date didn’t go well?”
“That would be the understatement of a century.”
“Well, I didn’t like him anyways, so.” You squinted up at him, frowning. “What? He got you carnations, Y/N. You hate carnations.”
“Yeah, but I didn’t hate Preston. He seemed nice, but the whole night, he was just…off, I dunno.” You sighed, waving a vague hand. “It was weird, I saw him this morning and he said he was excited, but when he came here it was like his whole vibe changed.” Part of that was probably his interaction with JJ, but the blond boy held his tongue. You sat up, angling yourself to face him with furrowed brows. “What did you say to him when he got here earlier?”
“Me? I didn’t say shit, I was just sussin’ him out. Simply exercising my duty as best friend.”
“Bullshit, you were probably sabotaging me!” Grabbing a pillow, you shoved your face into it, letting out a strangled groan. JJ patted your leg soothingly (he hoped), lips pressing into a thin line. “It’s whatever though. I don’t care anymore. I’m just never gonna find love in this lifetime.”
“Hey, don’t say that,” He chided, easing the pillow away from your face. “That’s not true. You’ll find love.” With me, he wanted to add. He didn’t.
“Thanks, J. But I don’t…I really don’t know anymore. Maybe I’m being dramatic, but it just feels like everytime I think ‘wow, this could be the time’, it just doesn’t work out.” You mumbled, picking at a loose thread at the hem of your shirt. “Makes me think that maybe it’s me, maybe I’m just unlovable.”
And that—you thinking that you were unlovable when JJ had loved you all his life—that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“I love you.” He blurted, brows furrowing.
Your breath caught in your chest, and you hesitated a second. “You do?”
“Fuck—yeah. Yeah, I do. ‘Course I do.” He sighed, dragging a hand through his already unruly hair, causing it to spring back in every which way. “How could I not?”
“Since when?”
“Are you kidding me? Since forever, Y/N. Honestly, probably since the first day we met, back when we were what, seven? You told me you liked my hair. Said it reminded you of gold, then you shared your fruit snacks with me. And that,” JJ chuckled, shaking his head, “that stuck with me, ever since then.”
“I remember.” You said softly, the memory bringing a small smile to your face. You’d met JJ on the first day of second grade, and it seemed like you’d just been attached at the hip ever since. He knew everything about you, you knew everything about him—except for the fact that he’d been in love with you ever since.
So really, maybe you didn’t know him as well as you thought you did.
“I can see the gears turning in your head right now.” He bumped his knuckles against your knee, ducking to meet your gaze. “You don’t have to say anything right now, I know it’s—it’s probably hard to take in. But it’s the truth. You were never unloveable, Y/N, you’re fucking perfect. You just…hadn’t found the right guy to love yet. And it might not be me, but I just needed you to know that you’re not doing anything wrong. Those guys are just fucking stupid if they didn’t see what I see in you. What I’ve always seen.”
You didn’t respond, instead just leaning forward and taking his face in your hands and pressing your lips against his, kissing him before you chickened out. If JJ was surprised he masked it well, only taking less than a beat to react. He reached out blindly, hands finding your waist to pull you onto his lap as he kissed you back eagerly.
“That was—what was that?” He breathed, pink lips parted and now shiny with your lipgloss, eyes bluer than the summer sky gazing wide right at you.
“Wanted to see if it felt right.” You whispered.
His chest rose and fell, pushing against yours with every deep breath he took in an attempt to keep calm despite his electric nerves. “And did it?”
“It did.” You confirmed with a nod, a small grin stretching your lips.
Everything was making sense now, like pieces slotting into a lifelong puzzle. The reason you were having such a hard time finding someone to love and someone to love you was because the person you needed and didn’t realize you wanted had been right in front of you for years, and you’d been too blind to see it all this time. But you saw it now.
You saw JJ now, and nothing had been clearer.
“I love you, J.”
JJ’s eyes fluttered shut almost blissfully, head lolling back against the couch cushions. “Shit, you have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to hear you say that.” He gave your waist a quick squeeze before letting his hand come up to give himself a light slap on the cheek.
“What’re you doing?” You giggled, tugging his hand away from his face.
“Making sure this isn’t another one of my dreams.”
Your brows lifted teasingly. “You dream about me?”
“All the fucking time, sweetheart.” His fingers traced the inside of your wrist, basking in the feeling of your soft skin warm against his, the view of you sitting on top of him looking like the epitome of beauty. He’d imagined this moment countless times, but never once did he think it would ever become a reality.
“And how do those dreams usually end?”
JJ smirked, eyes now gleaming with mischief. “You want me to show you?”

Sweet Tricks and Sweeter Feelings
leonardo x reader, friends to lovers
cw: literally nothing
word count: 3838
One evening, you started on a walk, or rather a ride, to a new skate park you had just recently discovered. While doing some business over on that side of town, you had a bit of free time to yourself, and decided to explore since you didn't go to that side of town much. You eventually stumbled upon an abandoned building, and your curiosity got the better of you. After looking around for an entrance, you somehow found an unlocked door that led inside. After making your way around to what seemed to be the main area, you found yourself looking at what seemed to be a well maintained skatepark.
“Woah, what is this? I've never seen this before…must not have been taken down when this place was closed. Someone's certainly been working hard to keep this place nice.”
Now, returning here, it was certainly a different vibe at night. Walking around to the unlocked door, you heard noises coming from inside, as if someone was also using the skatepark. As you made your way inside, you looked around for the source of the noise. You could barely make out a dark figure skating around the park. As you sat and watched in awe at all of their amazing tricks, they came a little too close and noticed you standing there.
“Oh! Hello there, you-”
“Augh! I'm sorry, I-I'll leave-”
“Wait, no, you're fine! I just didn't expect to see anyone else here.”
“You could say the same here. Those were some sweet tricks you were hitting, uh… what's your name? Don't think you mentioned it.”
“Oh, my apologies, you can call me Leonardo, or Leo for short. How about yourself, mysterious friend?”
“I'm y/n.”
“Well, y/n, since you're here, would you like to join me for some late night skating?”
“Yeah! Let's do this!”
After a couple hours, Leonardo announced that it was time for him to return home. It was pretty late, so you decided to head home yourself.
“When are you planning on being here again?”
“Oh, my brothers don't like me being out this late too much, so really only once a week.”
“You have brothers? How many?”
“Just 3.”
“Do they ever come out here?”
“Not that I know. I haven't told anyone about this place.”
“Not even your brothers?”
“Nope. I love them to death, don't get me wrong, but when I'm with them all day every day, a little time away can be nice.”
“I understand that. Well then, I'll see you next week, same place, same time?”
“Only if you show up.”
“It's a deal!”
Next week, you entered through the doors of the abandoned building and sure enough Leonardo was there, skating just as before.
“Yo!” you called out.
“There you are, I was getting a bit worried that you had bailed on me.”
“Sorry, I live on the other side of town. Yeah, no, I would have felt terrible. I wouldn't have even had a way to tell you, which would have made it all the worse.”
“You want my number? Easiest way to contact me.”
“Oh, sure.” You and Leonardo exchanged numbers, but while he was typing his number into your phone, you noticed some red marks on his face through his mask he was wearing.
“Is that…blood?”
“Hm?”
“On your face there.”
“Oh, um…no…”
“Then what is it, if it's not blood?”
“It's, um…I'll show you next week. But you have to show up.”
“Aw, what? Fine. Is it like a personal thing?”
“Kind of. A lot of people are often surprised when they see what it really is.”
“It can't be that bad. C'mon, lemme see!”
“Next week! If you show up.” You begrudgingly agreed as Leonardo started skating again. Realizing you hadn't yet even touched your skateboard, you followed suit.
After another long night of skating, Leonardo headed home, and so did you. On the way home, you texted Leonardo, thanking him for his time and reminding him of his promise.
-you better show me what's under that mask next week
-chill bro, all you gotta do is show up. I'll have you know I'm not one to break my promises.
-we'll see about that
-we will, won't we?
You smiled as you looked up from your phone. The curiosity was killing you, but you trusted that he would show you.
The next week passed slower than usual. If you weren't doing something, your mind would eventually drift to Leonardo. What was hiding that he couldn't show you immediately? You theorized about many different possible options, but you couldn't truly know until you met up with him again.
But slow as it was, the week finally passed and it was time to see what Leonardo had been hiding. You walked through the new familiar doors and looked around for Leonardo.
“Boo!”
“Augh! You- stupid- whatever.”
“C'mon, just a little joke. You aren't mad, are you?”
“No, I can't really get mad at you for that. I just get easily spooked.”
“I can tell.”
“Oh, shut up about it. Now how about we see what's under that mask?”
“Right. Now, before I do this, I should warn you. Whenever I show this to someone, they usually don't want to associate with me anymore. I've heard it all, so whatever you say probably won't hurt me. And whatever you think it is, I can guarantee it's not that. Do you still want to see?”
You paused and thought for a second before saying yes. He made you close your eyes while he took the mask off. When he said he was ready, you opened your eyes to see…
“A…stripe? Wait, you're a…turtle?!”
“Yep. What do you think? Be honest.”
“That's, like…awesome! I can't really think of a better way to put it.”
“So…you like it?”
“Totally! What would I not like about a walking, talking, skateboarding turtle?”
“Well, most people see me and think I'm sort of a rejected lab creation, and while they're not wrong they usually carry a negative connotation with it.”
“It's probably just because they don't get to know you. You're awesome!”
“Aw, thanks.”
“Wait, does that mean your brothers-”
“Are turtles too? Yep.”
“Woah. Can I meet them?”
“Uh, maybe next week? I don't think they would exactly be fond of me bringing home a human unannounced.”
“Do they even know about me? Have you told them?”
“Well I've mentioned you once or twice, but they don't even know anything about you. They don't even know that you know I'm not human.”
“Oof. Well, you better tell them because I totally want to meet them now.”
“Haha, I think I can work something out. But for now, I wanna see your cool tricks! We keep getting distracted.”
During your late night skate session, you had to stop for a second because you were hungry. Leonardo stopped as well and walked over to where you were standing, slouched over.
“Hey, you good? Looking a little weak there.”
“Yeah I’m okay, I just forgot to eat before I came here.”
“Woah, that’s not good. Hm…oh! I know this good Asian place down the road from here, it should still be open.”
“Oh, I love Asian food, and I totally would, but I don’t have any money on me.”
“Eh, I can cover you.”
“What? You don’t have to do that.”
“Please, allow me. I would feel bad if you were to faint from hunger under my watch.”
“Well, if you insist, I’m not going to refuse.”
“Come on, then. Follow me, I’ll take you there. You need some help?” You nodded as Leonardo grabbed your hand and started leading you out of the building. He slowly led you out of the building and down the streets.
“You doing okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine-” You were silenced by the sound of your stomach growling from hunger.
“Maybe not. Here, stand back.”
You stepped back as Leonardo pulled out what seemed to be a sword. He started moving it in a circle until a portal appeared in front of you.
“You can make portals too?!”
“It’s a long story. Maybe I’ll tell you one day, but for now we need to get you food. Come on, this should lead us straight there.”
You cautiously followed Leonardo through the portal, and stepped out on the other side right next to the restaurant.
“Wow, that was impressive. Can your brothers do that?”
“No, but they have their own special abilities. And anyway, how are you not focused on your hunger? You’re nearly starving.”
Leonardo led you inside, and the lady behind the counter greeted the two of you.
“Hello, you two! Out on a little late night date, are we?”
You just chuckled at the comment, but Leonardo was quick on his feet.
“A date? I mean, one could call it that. Only if you want.” He looked at you as he said that.
“I wouldn’t mind that.” Leonardo ordered for the both of you, and you sat down at a table to wait for your food.
“You should ask your brothers if I can meet them. I’m really curious about them.”
“Man, you are quite insistent on meeting my brothers, huh?”
“Well, it’s not every day that you learned that you’re actually friends with a mutant turtle, let alone that he has brothers who are also mutant turtles! And you’re super awesome and nice, so I bet they are too! Why would I not want to meet them?”
“Well since you have to be so nice about it, I guess I can ask them. I have no clue if any of them will be up this late, though, so I can’t promise a fast result.”
“That’s okay. Oh, but when am I going to meet them? Or where? I have no clue where you guys live.”
“Well, we’re pretty free, so whenever you have time during the day probably works for us. As for where…”
“What about your place? I think it would probably be a good idea to meet them in their natural environment, y’know, so they don’t have to feel stressed or anything like that.”
“That’s not a bad idea. Although, nothing about our home would be considered normal.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, for starters it’s pretty big. And it’s underground. We’ve got a lot of cool stuff as well. We have an arcade room, a humongous garage, a skate ramp…”
“You have a skate ramp inside your home?! No wonder you’re so good at skating.”
“Oh, stop it.”
The waiter came over with the food, and made another comment about the two of you.
“Here’s your food, nice and hot. Don’t stay here just talking too long now.” Leonardo took this opportunity to show you how sharp his wits truly were.
“Nice and hot, huh? The food’s not the only nice and hot thing here.”
“Are you…talking about me?”
“Maybe, maybe not. You’ll never know.”
“Oh, you’re so stupid. I’m eating, you have fun doing whatever you’re doing over there.”
You and Leonardo finished up your food, and finalized your plans to meet up with his brothers. Much to Leonardo’s surprise, all of his brothers responded before you finished eating, and all of his brothers had agreed to meet you in their home.
“Thank you so much for everything tonight. Definitely one of the best nights I’ve had in a while.”
“It was my pleasure, only the best for my best skateboarding friend.”
“You’re too kind. I’m excited to meet your brothers.” You and Leonardo started walking out after saying good night to the employees.
“I’m sure they’ll love you. Have a good night!”
“You too, Leonardo!”
A few days later, Leonardo texted you to help you get to his home to meet his brothers.-now turn left and you should see an alleyway down the street. once you get there, just wait a couple of minutes and I’ll be there to lead you the rest of the way.
-I better not be getting kidnapped
-wow, I buy you food and this is how you treat me? you’re lucky I even let you in at all.
-okay, okay, I trust you. happy now?
-I guess
-how about dinner on me next time?
-wow, making moves huh? you’re slick
-...I don’t even know what to say anymore.
During the texting, Leonardo had snuck up behind you. He scared you when he spoke up.
“How about you come say hello to my brothers?”
“Damn it Leo- would you stop scaring me?”
“It’s so cute the way you react when you get scared though. And I don’t mean any harm, I hope you know that. Now, come on, you’ve been waiting a while for this, haven’t you?”
“I sure have. Where are we headed?”
“Look down.” Confused, you looked down to see a manhole at your feet. You looked back at Leonardo, and he gestured you to move out of the way as he lifted the manhole cover.
“It’s not as bad as you think.”
“Well, I’ve gone this far.”
As you climbed down into the manhole, Leonardo started to lead you through the sewers. He seemed to know these dreary hallways like the back of his hand. After several minutes of walking through the sewers, you eventually saw a light coming from somewhere up ahead. You followed Leonardo down the hall, until eventually reaching the end, where he began something of a grand introduction.
“Welcome to my humble abode. Hey guys, they’re here!” As he presumably called to his brothers, you stood in awe as you took in everything that was in front of you. It was bigger than you could have ever imagined. There were so many rooms, so much graffiti all over the walls, string lights everywhere. Leonardo grabbed your hand and pulled you along to somewhere else though.
“C’mon, it’s time!” Your excitement could hardly be contained as Leonardo led you to the bottom layer of the area. Leonardo stopped in front of what you assumed were his brothers.
“y/n, meet my brothers. This is Raphael.”
“You can just call me Raph. Leo’s mentioned you a few times, but it’s nice to finally meet you in person.”
“This is Michelangelo.”
“Hello! I’ve been super excited to meet you! Leo says you’re really good at skateboarding. You’ll have to show me your moves later!”
“And this is Donatello.”
“Hello, nice to meet you. I do have a nickname, but I reserve it for people who are close to me. I mean no offense with this, as I’m sure you’re a kind individual, but I just don’t know you very well. With time you should be able to call me by my nickname.”
“Well, hello, everyone. My name is y/n. I’ve haven’t really heard much about any of you, but assuming you’re anything like Leo, then we’ll probably get along.”
“Well, how about we show you around? I’m sure you’ll get to know them along the way.” Leonardo and his brothers proceeded to show you around the very large area in which they lived. Along the way, you managed to pick up a few tidbits of information about each of his brothers. Raph was the oldest and seemed to be the leader of the group, but he also had a very soft heart. Mikey was the youngest of the four and was definitely the creative one. Donatello was the smart one, and was often very direct about everything.
“So how did you meet Leo, anyway?”
“Well, one of my hobbies happens to be skating, and one night when I went out to skate, he was the only one at the skatepark I went to. Then we kinda made plans to meet up there every week.”
“So that’s what you’ve been doing! Leo sometimes comes home late at night with a big smile on his face and just a little happier than usual, but he never mentioned you when he did that. Now I’m starting to put some dots together.”
“Well, that can happen when you hang around such an amazing skater such as myself.”
“How about you live up to that claim, huh? Show us some moves.” Leonardo finally spoke up. You took it as a challenge, and everyone headed over to the skate ramp.
After showing everyone what you could do on a skateboard, and a couple more hours of just hanging out with the turtles, you eventually had to head home. After saying your goodbyes, Leonardo showed you the way out.
“See you soon!”
“Yeah! If you ever want to come back over, just text me!”
“Will do!”
However, you would remain oblivious to the conversation that was about to follow. After walking you out, Leonardo started walking back to his room, but little did he know that Michelangelo was following him.
“Ah, man, that was nice. Now time to lay back and-”
“Oh, Leo~”
“Mikey? Did you need something?”
“Mmmm, not exactly.”
“Then what’s up?”
“I should be asking you that. Seems you and y/n have a little something going on.”
“Yeah, we hang out quite a bit. It’s been pretty nice.”
“Leo, I’m going to get straight to the point. I think it’s pretty obvious you like them.”
“Woah, that’s quite an assumption. Care to run me through your thought process here?”
“Well first off, you regularly went to hang out with them, a human. That doesn’t happen very often. Next, you revealed the fact that you’re a mutant turtle. You don’t exactly do that for everyone. And they told me about your little “date” you went on. Listen, Leo, you know I’m the expert on these things, you can’t hide them from me.”
“…Fine, I’ll admit it. They’re just so…I don’t know how to describe it. Something about them just draws me to them.”
“I think it’s because you guys are so similar. You bounce off of each other. I’d give it a bit more time, but you should tell them how you feel.”
“Ahh, I don’t know. It’s hard. I think they just see it like a normal friendship.”
“You never know until you try. Like I said, give it some time and we’ll see where it goes. I’ll be your wingman, give you tips and tricks. And I’ll keep on the down low, but I can’t promise that Donnie and Raph won’t find out. That’s out of my control.”
“Heh, thanks.”
A few weeks passed, and you hung out with Leonardo and his brothers more and more. You learned more about each of them, but you noticed Mikey being particularly weird whenever you and Leo were hanging out.
“Raph, have you noticed anything weird going on between Leonardo and Michelangelo?”
“Yeah, but I haven’t been able to figure out what they’re up to. I think it might have something to do with you, though.”
“Me?”
“Well I can’t be sure, but I feel like I often overhear your name in their conversations.”
“Oh, that makes me all the more nervous about what they’re doing.”
“Eh, knowing them, it can’t be anything bad. I wouldn’t worry too much.”
“If you say so. I’ll trust your judgment on this one.”
A few months had passed now, and you were a lot more comfortable with your turtle friends. You were allowed in their home at any time, and Donatello had even come to know you well enough for him to let you call him Donnie. Leonardo made his classic one liners. Raph and Michelangelo often cheered you on whenever you showed off your moves on the ramp in their home. But nothing ever came of Leonardo and Michelangelo’s scheming, and over time you forgot about it. However, it never stopped and you would soon come to learn what it was all about.
One night, Leo had texted you, asking you to meet up at the entrance to their home.
-make sure to bring your skateboard, I’ve got a little surprise for you
-it’s pretty late leonardo, you better have something good
-I think you’ll like it
You arrived at the meeting spot, with Leonardo already waiting for you.
“Hop on your board, we’ve got a long ways to go.”
Leo started, leading you through all the secret alleyways and tunnels. You managed to keep up, but your legs were starting to get tired from the distance you were riding.
“Are we there yet?”
“Almost, just another minute or two.”
By this point, you were on the outskirts of town. Leonardo was headed further and further away from the city. You were becoming more and more curious as to where he was taking you. Eventually you stopped at the bottom of a hill.
“I won’t make you ride up this. Follow me.”
Again he pulled out his sword and made another portal. You trusted it would take you to the top of the hill, and it certainly did. What you didn’t expect was a little area hidden in the brush which had a perfect view of the city.
“Woah, Leo, this is insane. How did you find this?”
“Spots like these are my specialty. Come, sit.”
He invited you to sit next to him and watch the city, which looked very different at night.
“Is there a reason you brought me out here?”
“Uhm, yes, actually. I’ve been reserving this spot for a special occasion. Y’know, we’ve been hanging out a lot these past few months, and we’ve come to know each other pretty well. But there’s something about myself I haven’t told you, and I think it’s pretty important that you know.”
“Okay, go ahead. I’m listening.”
“I-I really like you. You’re just a cool person, and when we hang out or go skating together, I don’t know, something about you just seems that much cooler. And the fact that you’re even willing to hang out with me in the first place is already amazing. I understand if you don’t return the feelings, I just-”
“Wait, so all of those stupid pick up lines were actual attempts at trying to get with me?”
“Kind of? Most of them were jokes, but they did actually mean I liked you.”
“Well, funnily enough, those pick up lines kind of worked…”
“What do you mean?”
“Well when we first met, I did just see you as a good friend. But I think your sense of humor accidentally made me like you too. I didn’t say anything because I thought that was just you being you, and I didn’t think those stupid little pick up lines meant anything. So I just left those feelings alone, destined to be banished to the recesses of my mind for the rest of eternity.”
Leonardo paused for a moment, before wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug. You returned the gesture.
“So, are we like, together now?”
“Only if you want.” Leonardo smiled.
“I wouldn’t mind that.” You smiled back at him before turning your head back to look at the city. This was certainly a surprise you liked.

okay but now i want to see mikael, noel & mefy’s reaction to their s/o being jealous 😭 but anyway i love it that you’re back but pleaseee take care of yourself first, we’re here for you!!!
mikael, noel, & mefy + jealous gn!so
happy new year!
genre: angst, comfort
cw: jealousy, miscommunication, petty behavior, language
Mikael
❧ he's hosting his annual obligatory gala at his castle and everything was going as planned
❧ the two of you split up to greet all the guests, wanting to get it done and over with, and while you're gone this clueless mf gets hit on and doesn't pick up on it
❧ so when you eventually come over to check in on him, you see him talking to this one lady who was making herself just a little bit too comfortable
❧ this, ofc, makes you upset and you approach to stand next to mikael and you send a glare between the two of them
❧ it takes him a second, but mikael eventually connects the dots and figures that you don't like this woman talking to him
❧ then she has the gall to make a more direct move by reaching forward and grabbing onto his hand, to which you reach forward and slap her hand off of mikael's
❧ the woman looks at you like you just offended her entire bloodline, meanwhile you're staring her down like you're ready to throw hands
❧ sensing the tension, mikael grabs you gently by the hand, excuses the two of you under his breath, and leads you away from the party and toward the empty balcony for some fresh air
❧ he gives you a minute to collect yourself before raising a questioning eyebrow at your behavior, yet there's a soft smile displayed on his face
❧ "she was flirting with you," you state plainly
❧ he gives you a slightly incredulous look as if to ask if that's all it was, but at the same time he understands why you're upset
❧ getting annoyed by his silence, you decide to continue on, "she was flirting with you and you did nothing to stop her. i was the one who had to interfere; did you even mention me?"
❧ he almost cuts you off toward the end of your rant to defend himself, "darling, i didn't even realize her intentions. i promise if i had known, i would have shut her down"
❧ you stare at him in silence for a moment before responding softly, "but now you know and next time you will shut it down yourself?"
❧ he hums and nods his head in response, "yes, i promise"
❧ a small smile appears on your face and you hold your hand out to him, which he accepts eagerly, grateful you forgave him
❧ the two of you decide to spend the rest of the night out on the balcony, looking up at the night sky and enjoying each other's company, only returning inside to bid farewell to your guests
Noel
❧ he won't do anything to outright make you jealous, at least not on purpose
❧ instead, he ends up doing a bunch of little things that eventually push you over the edge of jealousy
❧ for example, someone will call him cute while the two of you are in town, or someone tries to take advantage of his naivety and hit on him shamelessly until you eventually drag him away
❧ sometimes he'll come home and say something along the lines of "beverly has invited us over to her house tomorrow night for dessert" and you're like "who??"
❧ so you end up having a conversation about how it's okay to not talk to strangers and to not accept their,, invitations
❧ but the thing that really pushed you over the edge- it's so stupid really- is his garden
❧ it's harvest season for some plants he uses a lot in his concoctions, and he's taking full advantage of every opportunity he has to collect and treat each one
❧ ofc more time in the garden means less time with you, so you try to go down and help him, but he's just too in the zone and is in his own little world the whole time that it makes no difference
❧ it's actually ricardo who catches how you're feeling and talks to you about it
❧ he's listening to you vent about how you've been feeling almost neglected and how there's just been so much piling up, yet you haven't had much of a chance to talk to him about it
❧ unbeknownst to you, the clueless mfer in question is walking down the hall looking for you and overhears you talking to ricardo of all people and now he's jealous and absolutely does not know how to handle it
❧ fast forward to bed time and the two of you are being so petty, not really talking to each other like y'all should be doing, until finally, surprisingly, he breaks the silence first
❧ he looks over at you with a pout on his face, eyebrows furrowed, and he mumbles out, "why were you talking to ricardo? i thought i was the one you come to..."
❧ this makes your eyebrows shoot up in shock; now noel is jealous??
❧ so you sigh and explain to him how you've just been feeling a little jealous and a tad bit neglected lately, going over every instance you've felt so lately
❧ he's silent as he listens, as per usual, and once you're finished he simply apologizes and says he'll learn from this and be more attentive going forward :)
❧ to address his jealously, he just asks that you no longer go to ricardo for relationship help lol
Mefy
❧ unlike the other two, this man gets flirted with and will flirt back just to get a rise out of you pls dump him
❧ it happens when lucia has some rich family visiting for lunch, and they bring their child, who just so happens to be around mefy's age, with them
❧ the three of you are having a lovely conversation, but somehow the guest assumes you and mefy are just friends and takes that as their invitation to start hitting on him
❧ you're staring at this person, eyebrow quirked up at this behavior before turning your gaze to mefy; surely he'll set the matter straight
❧ or not, because this bitch starts flirting back shamelessly as if you weren't there
❧ your eyes widen at the sheer audacity before you huff out a quick "excuse me," before making your leave of the day room
❧ you don't spare a glance back at your partner to gauge his reaction, opting to just hunker down in your room for the rest of they day to cool down and think this over
❧ mefy feels a slight twinge in his heart seeing you storm off like that, aware of his actions, but he decides to just let you be for now
❧ to his credit, he does at that point set the record straight with the guest, affirming his relationship with you and how he's not interested in them
❧ the day goes on slowly, until the guests leave and it's finally dinner time and everyone gathers around the table
❧ well, everyone except for you, and everyone is well aware of your absence
❧ although unaware of what went down, lucia, levy, and even kaim are all staring at mefy with a disapproving look that screams at him, "you fucked up"
❧ with that, he sighs, pushes his chair back from the table, and heads to your shared bedroom
❧ he hesitantly knocks on the door, waiting a second before letting himself in
❧ he finds you lying down in bed, back facing him at the door and refusing to say a word
❧ he makes his way toward the bed, sitting down at the edge, still not saying anything
❧ the two of you are held up in a silence competition, one that both of you know he's gonna have to lose
❧ eventually, he sets his pride aside and apologizes for his behavior. "i shouldn't have played along like that. it was a spit on our relationship, and it will never happen again," he tentatively reaches a hand out to place it on your shoulder, continuing when you don't move away, "i swear it. i hope you can forgive me, y/n"
❧ after a moment of silence, letting you take it all in, you turn over to face him and prop yourself up on your elbows. "you ever pull something like that again, mefy, and i swear it, i will feed you to the dogs. got that?"
❧ he gives you a soft smile, "understood"

Realized I haven't gone into how Bitterbat reacts/gets revenge on Freebird…at least on this account SO lemme drop that here because he definitely has STRONG reactions to him.
Freebird is stationed in mainland America so he isn't a permanent resident of Decking City. He only really visits when there is hero business to take care of. But when there is word that Freebird is coming to the city, Bitterbat becomes way more territorial over Sweetheart.
He can read people's emotions like a book and Sweetheart has discomfort written all over her. She tells him she can deal with Freebird because yeah he's a pushy asshole but he isn't a complete monster and he eventually backs off but it's annoying every time.
And the guy has only become more assertive after Bitterbat showed up.
Bitterbat knows Sweetheart doesn't like missing a hero meeting but he tries to get her to call out when Freebird is in town. And if that doesn't work, he tries to figure ways to sneak in. And if that doesn't work, then he's always lurking somewhere nearby the place.
In the beginning, Sweetheart has def turned down having him accompany her because it's too risky but at a point she realizes how much anxiety she is beginning to get by just thinking about running into Freebird and she decides to pull the "Itty Bittybat in boobies" maneuver.
It works pretty well and helps her make it through the day when Freebird is around with the only draw back being how hard it is to keep Bitterbat from leaping out and attacking his face. It hasn't happened YET but the chances of Bitterbat snapping are low, never zero.
Her has certainly pulled a fair share of tricks on the bird man, like making him trip and fall or making something spill on him but it's always something to seem like a freak accident.
Another thing he does when Freebird is in town…and make sure Sweetheart leaves him with some "battlescars". Of course she makes sure to reel him back so he doesn't go hog wild but there's a bite here, a hickey there.
There's finer details I cannot get into because this is a sfw account but he makes sure she is absolutely covered in his scent so if she ever runs into Freebird, he might not know what it is he's sensing, but he def can tell something is "off" about her.
Because of how much more "aggressive" Bitterbat gets during battles when Freebird is in town, the two can lie and say it's just actual scars from them fighting. Speaking of their battles, they def get more risque.
It's nothing too explicit but those stolen kisses get a whole lot deeper. Like "Bitterbat makes sure the camera sees tongue" deeper It drives Freebird up a wall. Especially with how much Bitterbat loves to have his hands on Sweetheart during battles.
Of course, this leads to Freebird trying to talk Sweetheart into letting someone else handle Bitterbat because he claims that he seems to be "too much for her to handle" but Sweetheart stands firm that she is more than capable of dealing with him...because it's true tbh.
Does Bitterbat kick Freebird's ass at somepoint. AT LEAST twice with the first being him going easy on Freebird because he tried to step in during a battle between him and Sweetheart.
The way Decking works, heroes claim what villains are theirs. Heroes know their villains the best so they always are the ones sent or called when a villain they claimed pops up. The Decking Defense Force state it's because they are the most qualified to handle them...which is true.
Things are different in mainland America. Heroes tend to just deal with a villain they have run ins with but there's no paperwork to assign them, it's just "oh yeah that guy usually takes on that other guy".
And while it's not breaking the rules necessarily for a hero in Decking to jump into battle against an unassigned villain, it's often advised against if the designated hero doesn't have them marked down as "other capable heroes". So when Freebird tries to take Bitterbat, Bitterbat drops his weights and fucks him up JUST enough to make him know his place.
Bitterbat considers this fight to be his "warning" to Freebird because the guy could still walk away from it and he left his face quite in tact. Plus he was still going by the "script" he and Sweetheart vaguely have in their heads.
But the second fight they have…it's definitely an unscripted event. And while Freebird could walk away from the first battle with his tail between his legs-Bitterbat makes it his mission he crawls away from the second.
Sadly, Bitterbat cannot kill Freebird as he would basically be marked down as one of the biggest threats to America and that's a whole headache for Bitterbat and Sweetheart to deal with when they just wanna cuddle and kiss while binging movies. But maiming is def on the table.

Fuh You
If we can get past the stupid attempt at ambiguity, this is actually a really interesting (and good!) song.
Most of Paul McCartney's music videos are abominations that have the potential to ruin the song they go with. But, again, this video is super interesting, so this post will include some details about the video, and some screen shots.
Tumblr media
The protagonist is a young teen called Jamie (Paul's first name is James), who wanders around Liverpool singing about the girl he's just kissed. My theory is the girl represents John. It would have been amazing if the love interest had been a boy, but even in 2018 that would have been a huge deal. And, as we all know, Paul is not out (yet?).
Come on baby now, let me look at you Talking 'bout yourself, try to tell the truth
These are the opening lyrics, and they're not repeated. I interpret them as John's voice in Paul's head, talking to Paul. Or just Paul talking to himself.
On the night that I met you, I was on the town On the night that I met you
The second time these lines are sung, Jamie is standing outside the chip shop where John and Paul actually met for the first time. If you haven't heard this story, there's a great blog post about it here.
Long story short, Paul saw John at a chip shop, and some locals figured out which shop it was. The exact address Jamie is walking past here:
Tumblr media
I adore the idea of 14 year old Paul stealing a chip from 16 year old John before they'd ever met (as Jamie does from some girls outside the shop). The authors of the blog post above paint the picture, then decide it's unlikely. But I think maybe the Paul who played his heart out in his white jacket to impress John could have been brazen enough.
I just wanna know how you feel Want a love that's so proud and real You make me wanna go out and steal I just want it fuh you, I just want it fuh you
"Proud", eh? What kind of love would you have pride in, Paul?
Who was it again that sang about Real Love? *taps chin*
I have a theory that 'steal' and 'rob' are sexual innuendoes for Paul, but that's for another post when I'm feeling braver.
Come on baby now, help me work it out I won't let you down so you don't need to shout
"Help me work it out" reminds me of We Can Work It Out.
"I won't let you down" points me to Oh! Darling, and Don't Let Me Down.
I could stay up half the night, playing with your head I could stay up half the night, but I'd rather go to bed
The official lyrics really do say "head", not "hair".

So since you wanted some ianthony song recs... And I am also currently working on creating a playlist for them. I figured you wouldn't mind if I ramble about some of my favourite choices so far! :D
For now the playlist is still pretty TS heavy , since I went through her albums first to look for songs. So here are some of my top choices (aside from midnight rain) for them there:
- forever winter
"he spends most of his nights wishing it was how it used to be" "all this time I didn't know you were breaking down. I'd fall to pieces on the floor, if you weren't around"
- 'tis the damn season
"if I wanted to know who you were hanging with while I was gone I would have asked you" "so we could call it even [...] I'm staying at my parent's house and the road not taken looks real good now" "and I always leads to you, in my hometown" "so I'll go back to LA [...] And wonder about the only soul who can tell which smiles I'm fakin'"
- and then of course the corresponding "Dorothea"
- closure (this song hits even more since we know about the letter that Anthony wrote)
(tho I'm glad that the song doesn't actually apply to them irl anymore; it just feels like Smth for the in between phase)
- both happiness and evermore also fit pretty well for that time
Especially with "sorry, I can't see facts through all of my fury. You haven't met the new me yet" "now I get fake niceties. No one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you and you know you hurt him too"
And
"motion capture put me in a bad light" "writing letters addressed to the fire" "I rewind the tape but all it does is pause on the very moment all was lost"
- also "right where you left me" for Ian Vs "it's time to go" for anthony
- I almost do
Literally the whole song fits so well here idk what else to say (works from both perspectives imo)
- Breathe
"Cause none of us thought that it was gonna end this way. Ppl are ppl and sometimes we change our minds. But it's killing me to see you go after all this time" "you're the only thing I know like the back of my hand" "It's 2:00 am feeling like I just lost a friend. Hope you know it's not easy for me"
- That's when
Just really reminds me of that time when they were still apart and when asked if there are any plans of Anthony coming back one day or Smth like that and said Smth along the lines of "the door is always open"
- the story of us
Again, literally the whole song istg
But especially "now I'm standing alone in a crowded room and we're not speaking. And I'm dying to know: is it killing you like it's killing me?"
- from folkore I think both "the 1" and "exile" fit pretty well
Especially "and it took you 5 whole minutes to pack us up and leave me with it" and the whole bridge with "you didn't even here me out. You never gave a warning sign/I gave so many signs"
- also "this is me trying"
With "I didn't know if you care if I came back. I have a lot of regrets about that." "But I'm here in your doorway. I just wanted you to know, that this is me trying" (Anthony)
"and it's hard to be at a party when I feel like an open wound. It's hard to be anywhere these days when all I want is you. You're a flashback in a film real on the one screen in my town"
- you're loosing me (right before the Anthony left smosh)
"do I throw out everything we built or keep it?" "my face was gray but you wouldn't admit that we were sick"
- New Year's Day (hurts during the "break-up" era, but also feels very healing atm tbh)
"don't read the last page. But I stay when it's hard, or it's wrong, or we're making mistakes"
"hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you"
"Please don't ever become a stranger, whose laugh I could recognize anywhere"
Honourable mentions:
- I wish you would
- you are in love
- long live
- the very first night
- hits different
Sorry this was way longer than intended lmao.
And mostly angsty
Hope you enjoy some of them tho! :D

All the Small Things
Note: This was transcribed from my AO3.
ship: buddie pov: eddie diaz, third person narrative written: March 8, 2023 first published: March 9, 2023 word count: 4,249 - summary: Five times Eddie Diaz absentmindedly shows his love to Evan Buckley the same way he does to his son, Christopher, and one time Buck does the same but Eddie gets confused.
Every day, Eddie gives Chris a kiss on the forehead or caresses his cheek at some point to show his love for his son– the light of his life, his pride and joy, the reason he fights to come home every day. Every day, Eddie is thankful when Christopher reciprocates through a hug or caressing Eddie's cheek back, because that's just how the Diaz family shows their love for one another. It's normal, and it's a habit– one that's hard to break and seemingly uncontrollable when you love someone, happening absentmindedly. So when it happens the first time, Eddie only thinks about it for a moment before moving on, acting like it's nothing.
Eddie is sick. His nose is running, his eyes are puffy, his voice is hoarse and throat is sore. He can't leave the house like this, much less go to work, but Carla is out of town. Thankfully, he has someone he knows he can always rely on when things go to shit. He calls up Buck, and within fifteen minutes he's entering Eddie's house without even knocking.
"Eddie?" Buck calls, leaning against the doorframe when he finds Eddie still lying in bed in his room. "You feeling okay? You don't look too good."
"It's just a cold," Eddie responds, pulling his comforters up further because not only does he have a cold, his body is freezing.
"Have you taken any cold medicine?"
"Yes. That's not why I called you."
Buck frowns, coming to Eddie's side and placing a hand on the back of his forehead. He not feverish, which is good. Eddie watches as Buck stands up, goes to Eddie's dresser and pulls out some loungewear, throwing it in his direction.
"Get changed. I'll make breakfast and some tea."
"Can you make sure Chris is up?"
"I heard the shower running when I came in, so I'm assuming he's in there."
"Good. We had a late night last night, so neither of us got the chance."
"You know what, you can change after you shower. You shouldn't change into clean clothes when you haven't done that yet."
"I know that, Buck. I'm sick, not an idiot."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
Then, Buck is gone. Eddie blinks a few times, slowly, stretching as much as he can before he smells bacon from the kitchen, and he begins to feel like a cartoon character floating towards the source of a scent. Eddie climbs out of bed, not bothering to make it back up when he knows he'll be back there momentarily anyway. He slips on his house shoes, leaving his room. On his way to the kitchen, he grabs a throw blanket from the living room to keep himself warm. When he does finally get to the kitchen, Chris is already settled in his seat putting food on his plate, and Buck is just sitting down himself.
"I don't want to get you sick," Eddie says, barely audible from just how sick he is.
"You're sick?" Chris asks, finally looking up. "Dad, you look terrible. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, buddy. It's just a cold. That does mean I won't be kissing you goodbye today though."
"That's okay," Christopher says, turning back to his food.
"So, what has Buck made for us this morning?" Eddie asks, taking a seat.
"Just some bacon, toast, and eggs. I figured since it's a school morning that I probably shouldn't do anything too fancy, but..."
"You got carried away, didn't you?"
"Just a little bit."
The three of them have breakfast together, and when they're done Buck cleans up all of the dishes while Christopher finishes getting ready in his room and Eddie lies on the couch, half fallen asleep. The thing to make him perk up is when he hears Chris near the door putting on his shoes and Buck passing by, the keys in his hand jangling. Eddie sits up quickly, making his way to the front door right as it opens.
"What's wrong?" Is the first thing out of Buck's mouth, he and Christopher giving Eddie the same worried look.
"Nothing, I just...I wanted to say 'bye' before you left," Eddie says, finishing making his way over.
Eddie places his palm on Chris's cheek, gently cradling his face before telling him he loves him. Chris does the same back before he crutches out the door. Eddie then turns to Buck, giving him a thankful look as he caresses his face in the same way he did to Chris just moments before. Buck's eyebrows pinch together at the action before they're raised, alerting Eddie to what he's done. He jerks his hand away just a centimeter or two, and Buck just smiles, leaving Eddie in the doorway by himself.
It leaves Eddie stunned until he hears the sound of Buck's jeep pulling away, and he decides he should probably shut the door. He decides on showering, changing into the clothes Buck gave him afterward, but his mind is still swimming. Had he really done that? While to most it wouldn't be such a big deal, for Eddie it is. For him, it's the Diaz love signature. It's a way he's been shown love from his abuela, from his sisters, his tía Pepa, and even his parents, and it's the way he's shown it back to them. It's what he's always done to express his love silently, often verbally expressing it at the same time, and he's just done it to Buck, his coworker and best friend. And it's not that he can't do it to a friend, because he definitely can, but something in his gut is telling him it's not, but rather something much, much more than that.
The next time it happens it's not even a cheek caress, either. It's a kiss on the forehead. In hindsight, that is what should have alerted him to his feelings for Buck, but it didn't. It only made him more confused. Bobby and Athena had decided to throw a Christmas party, and, of course, Eddie was invited. In the invitation was a request that every parent bring a gift for the kids to do a gift exchange, which Eddie thought was a nice idea, so he and Chris went out to pick a gift just before their arrival. It was during the gift exchange that the second thing happens.
"Dad?" Christopher whispers from his spot between Eddie and Buck on the couch.
"Yeah, buddy?"
"I'm thirsty."
"Me too," Buck says, and Christopher smiles at him, warming Eddie's heart.
"I'll go get you both something," Eddie says.
He gets up, rounding the back of the couch and kissing the top of Christopher's head. Then, it just happens. He does the same thing to Buck. This time, Eddie doesn't even pause. He doesn't realize what he's done at all. That is, until, he gets back to his seat with a soda for Chris and a beer for Buck that he notices everyone is looking at him, every now and then glancing to Buck before looking back over again.
"Did I miss something?" Eddie asks, looking at Buck to clue him in.
"That's what I'm wondering," Athena says, leaning forward over her crossed legs, looking right at Eddie. "Since when are you two kissing each other's foreheads when you leave the room?"
"What...?" Eddie goes to ask, but looking at Buck once again, things start to click. "Oh, um...I didn't– it's not– that's not– we're not...accident."
Buck just blinks, and Eddie isn't sure what to make of how everyone is feeling. Athena shakes her head and leans back into her chair, Bobby just sits there, brows raised, Karen and Hen share what Eddie likes to call their "all-knowing people watching look", Chimney sits with his brows furrowed, and Maddie is grinning brightly, like she knows exactly what's happening. Then there's Buck. His face is seemingly expressionless, minus the rapid blinking. And Chris. Thank god for the gift exchange, Eddie thinks to himself as he watches Chris participate in the passing around of the gifts rather than paying attention to the conversation being had.
Eddie's not sure how they got to this point, or maybe he does, but now it seems like half the time Eddie is the one to pick up Chris from school, Buck is there with him. Half the days that Eddie is home in the afternoons and evenings, Buck is there, too. Half the time they're not a work, Buck is at the same place as Eddie. It's not like Eddie is complaining, either. He enjoys being with around Buck. He enjoys his presence. He enjoys their conversations and the little moments that only they know about. Today is no different. That is, until the third thing happens.
Eddie and Buck are standing leaning against Eddie's truck as they wait for Christopher to get out of school. Like every day, they're so close that their elbows are touching, but neither of them seem to notice, and if they do, they don't care. Like every day, the second that Eddie sees Chris he opens his arms to pull his son into a hug, followed by him asking about his day. Like every day, when they pull away Eddie kisses the top of his head before patting him on the shoulder as a way of telling him to get in the truck. Not like every day, he kisses Buck on the cheek before, like every day, going to the passenger seat so he can focus on talking with Christopher before they get home.
When they are home, the three of them go straight to the dining table, Chris getting out his homework and getting math help from Buck while Eddie helps him with the rest. Then, at five, Buck gets up from the table and starts on dinner. The three of them stay grouped in conversation all throughout the evening, and when he's done with his homework Chris helps Eddie set the table. Buck finishes cooking and he serves everybody's plates, their conversation only growing more interesting.
"There's a school dance coming up," Christopher says, and Buck looks at Eddie in amusement.
"Oh, a dance?" Eddie asks, excited for his son. "Are you wanting to go?"
"Can I?"
"I think so," Buck says, and Eddie rolls his eyes.
"Can I, Dad? Buck says it's okay," and really, how could Eddie say no?
"Of course you can, buddy. When is it?"
"Next Friday."
"That should be enough time to get a new suit, right?" Eddie asks, more to Buck because, really, Eddie is bad at math.
"I think the more important question is if that's enough time for Chris to find a date," Buck says, and Eddie's eyes widen while Chris just laughs.
"Who said anything about a date? And aren't you the one who said he's too young to be dating?"
"Ah, yes, but there is a difference between acquiring a date for a school function and going out on a date."
"They sound the same to me," Eddie says, shrugging his shoulders.
"So," Buck says, turning to Chris, "are you going with someone?"
"Not right now, but there is this girl that I like."
"Yeah?" Eddie asks, focusing his attention back to his son.
"Yeah. She's super nice. I want to ask her to go with me, but I'm nervous."
"It's okay to be nervous," Buck says, taking lead on the conversation. "Just don't be so nervous that you chicken out."
"Buck is right. If you like her, then you should go up to her tomorrow and say 'Hey, I was wondering if you'd like to go with me to the dance next Friday', and see what she says. The worst that could happen is that she says no."
"What happens if she does say no?"
"Then you can either go with a group of friends, you can go by yourself, or you can stay home with us and watch whatever movie we can find on cable," Buck says, and Chris scrunches his face.
"I think I'd rather go alone," Chris says, getting up from the table, and Eddie laughs, big and loud. "Since I finished my homework can I go play video games?"
"Shower first, but when you're done you can, okay?" Eddie says, and Chris grins, immediately making his way down the hall. "Only for an hour, though!"
"Yes, Dad!" Christopher calls back, and both Buck and Eddie smile.
The two men get up from the table, working together to get the kitchen clean. Eddie does the dishes while Buck cleans the table and counters. While Eddie sweeps the floor, Buck puts away the dishes from the night before. We really need Carla back, Eddie thinks to himself. Then, he pauses his sweeping, stuck on his mind's use of the word "we". As in he and Buck, because at this point Buck is essentially Chris's second father, and that's, well...
Despite Christopher's adversity to his father tucking him into bed, claiming it's "too childish" and that he's "too old" for it, Eddie still pops his head in to make sure his computer is off and turn off the lights– and Buck is right there with him. So when Eddie gently pulls Christopher's door shut, turning around to go have a beer in the living room with Buck, he caresses his cheek as he passes by.
Buck follows Eddie out to the living, stuttering on whatever words that he's trying to get out. Eddie sits down on the couch, holding a beer out to Buck who takes it as he sits down next to him. Buck just looks...confused. Flustered, maybe, but definitely confused (a constant state, really, but it's been amplified).
"We need to talk," Buck eventually gets out, and Eddie takes a sip of his beer, raising his eyebrows at him.
"About...?"
"You. Us. This...thing."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean the cheek and forehead kisses and face caressing."
"Oh," Eddie says, setting his beer down on the coffee table. "That."
"Yeah. That."
"I don't really know what you want me to say. I don't mean to. It sort of just happens, you know? Like I get in this way with you and Christopher that it just...happens."
"So you don't...like me?"
"Buck..."
"No, no, I don't mean it like– I'm not saying that I like you, or that I think you like me, but just that it felt very...romantic?"
"Romantic?" Eddie asks, leaning back and crossing his arms.
"Or, not– not romantic, but maybe more familial?"
"Buck, look around. You are family. Half the time we're not at work either you're over here or Chris and I are at your place. You help me drop Christopher off some mornings and some afternoons you come with when I'm picking him up. It's– you're practically his parent!" Eddie confesses, letting out his thoughts from earlier.
"Oh," Buck says, sitting with it for a moment. "I mean, I guess I kind of am, aren't I?"
"Yeah, you are."
"I guess I just never thought of it like that before. I mean, I know that I'm the one you call when Carla isn't available, and I guess I should have figured it out because of what you put in your will, but– hang on, does Christopher see me as a father?"
"Honestly? I don't know. What I do know is that he definitely sees you as a friend and not an authority figure."
"But would a friend become your legal guardian when his real father dies?" Buck asks, taking a sip of his beer.
"Making jokes of my death, Buckley?" Eddie asks, copying Buck's motions.
"After the number of times you have almost died on me, I think I've earned the right to a couple of jokes," Buck says, and Eddie gets it, especially when Buck says, "Being your friend is traumatizing."
"Hey, now, I'm not the only one who nearly dies every day. You're Mr. Reckless."
"I'm not reckless, I'm young and agile. There's a difference."
"Uh-huh. Sure."
The final time it happens is when things start to change. They're at work, meaning Chris isn't around for Eddie to use as his excuse of "it just happens". Eddie and Hen are sitting at the bar counter, Bobby cooking with Buck's aide, and Chim off to the side on the phone with Maddie. For lunch, Bobby gave Buck full control over making the sauce, and he's bouncing on his feet out of excitement. He scoops some of the sauce out of the pot, holding it out to Hen.
"Buck, I already told you, I'm not taste testing any more food that you make. Not after the oatmeal cookies this morning," Hen says, and both Bobby and Eddie snicker.
"Wha– okay, that was not my fault. Eddie was distracting me."
"All I did was ask if you could help me get Carla a welcome back gift."
"Yeah, distracting. Which means that you have to taste test my sauce," Buck says, coming to Eddie's side and holding the spoon up to him.
Eddie raises his brows, shaking his head once before letting Buck feed him the sauce. It's not bad at all. In fact, it tastes just like Bobby's. It makes Eddie feel proud, smiling at Buck as he pulls the spoon away, still leaning close.
"So? What do you think?"
"You did good," Eddie says, and then it happens.
He kisses Buck on the cheek, right as he's leaving to go back around to the stove. Hen and Bobby turn to each other, sharing a look before they turn back to Buck and Eddie, glancing between the two of them. Bobby opens his mouth to say something, but Chimney beats him to it.
"Did I miss something?"
"Just Eddie and Buck continuing to be Eddie and Buck," Hen says, Chim's face relaxing as he sighs.
"Yeah, that sounds right."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Eddie asks, but he receives no answer.
"Alright," Buck says, clapping his hands together. Eddie already knows he wasn't paying attention. "Bobby and I will bring all the food over, you three go sit down."
"Yes, sir," Eddie, Hen, and Chim mock all at once, Buck just rolling his eyes.
Leaving the head of the table for Bobby, the three of them go to sit down. Hen sits to the right of Bobby's seat, the rail behind her. Chim leans over the rail, calling for Ravi and everyone else before sitting to the right of Hen. Eddie sits across from her, telling Ravi to sit in the seat next to the one next to him, claiming he was saving it for Buck.
"You two make me sick," Ravi says, and Chim bursts out laughing, Hen trying to hold hers in.
"What are we laughing about?" Buck asks as he and Bobby come over with trays and bowls and other kitchen materials.
"Absolutely nothing," Chim says, and while he's not entirely wrong, Eddie still shoots him a quick death glare.
As Buck passes, Eddie grabs him by the arm, begging him over. Buck follows, holding out the tray of breadsticks he's carrying so Eddie (and anyone else who wants one) can grab one. Eddie does so, taking a bite immediately. Buck pulls the tray away, kissing Eddie on his cheek before he continues on his way to the center of the table, where he sets down the tray of breadsticks along with his bowl of delicious red pasta sauce before sitting down in the spot saved for him.
Eddie, though, is stuck. His chewing slows, brows pinching together as he looks at Buck questioningly. It's not necessarily new, because Eddie has been doing it to Buck. So no, not new, just...different, because Buck has never done it to Eddie before. Not that he can't, either, but he simply wasn't expecting it. He did, though, and it wasn't out of reciprocity– it was because he wanted to. That is why it's hitting Eddie so hard.
"Uh, Buck—"
"Nope. You don't get to say anything. You do it all the time. Besides, we had that conversation about it, so it's just familial, right? No biggie."
"I'm sorry, since when are you two a family?" Hen asks, pointing her fork between the two of them.
"They've been that way forever," Bobby says, and everyone turns to look at him. "What? They've been best friends for years, and Buck is basically helping to raise Christopher. They work together, half the time they go home together, they have family dinners and go on trips to the beach together. Buck will pick up Chris from school, sometimes with Eddie and others without. If Buck isn't with one or both of them, it's because one of the three of them is sick."
"Well, the last time Eddie was sick– nevermind," Buck says, letting Bobby finish.
"My point is, it's not hard to put two and two together."
"Two and two together?" Eddie asks.
"Yeah, what are you talking about?" Buck asks, finishing Eddie's thought for him.
"That."
"So we're good friends," Buck says, clearly avoiding Eddie's gaze. "Is it really that interesting?"
"Very," Hen says, pulling out her phone. "I've got to tell Karen about this."
"Wha—" Buck starts, but Eddie cuts him off by patting his knee.
"We're good friends?"
"Best friends," Buck assures, but there's something missing from the way he sounds.
"Ugh," Ravi exclaims, shaking his head. "You two are terrible."
"We—" Buck starts, but Bobby shaking his head catches their attention.
"Listen," Chimney then says, setting down his napkin after cleaning his face, "I'm not saying you two need to get your act together and kiss already, but..."
"Um," Eddie gets out, Buck stuttering on a string of words.
"Chim is right," Bobby says, followed by Hen saying "ditto", Ravi nodding along.
Buck and Eddie look at each other for a moment before looking away, not talking for the rest of lunch.
Hen, Chim, and Ravi leave the locker room at the same time, Eddie and Buck having been working out post-work plans the entire time rather than grabbing their things. They're still talking, only now that they're alone their conversation has shifted. Eddie looks at Buck with a somewhat longing look before turning away and, finally, opening his locker.
"We gonna talk about it?" Eddie asks, and Buck sighs.
"Do you want to talk now about it?"
"I think we should try it."
"Try what?"
"Kissing. For real. Not a cheek or forehead kiss, but a real kiss."
"Now?"
"Why not? It might finally get them off our backs."
"I don't know. I guess I always thought that—"
"I'm sorry, you've thought about it before?" Eddie asks, stepping away from his locker to look at Buck, fully and completely.
"I mean, I– uh..."
Eddie brings his hand to caress Buck's face, getting him to stop stumbling on his words and just be quiet. They look in each other's eyes, both men occasionally glancing to the other's lips. Then, almost suddenly, their lips crash together, smothering each other with their mouths. Buck pulls Eddie closer by his collar, hands then traveling to hold him by his back. Meanwhile, Eddie has one hand on Buck's chest, keeping him pulled close through his grip on his shirt, his other hand running through Buck's curls.
"Buck?" Eddie says in between kisses.
"Yes?"
"Do you think," a kiss, "maybe," another kiss, "they were right?"
"Most definitely."
Eddie smiles a bit at that, Buck doing the same as Eddie's grip on his shirt loosens and he brings his hand to cup Buck's cheek, caressing his face once again. They're both panting, foreheads leaning against one another as they try to slow down their fast beating hearts. Buck takes Eddie's hand, gently pushing him back over to his locker, the two of them grabbing out their things before leaving the locker room, where they're greeted with the shocked expressions of their friends.
"Well, that was definitely a kiss," Chim says, sighing in defeat.
"Oh, that?" Eddie asks, raising his brows and looking at Buck with a chuckle before looking at Chim again. "That was nothing."
"Yeah, I have had way longer kisses than that– and I mean kisses. Like, I'm not talking makeout sessions. I'm talking five minute kiss because it was high school and it was passing period, so actually technically it was more of a three minutes kiss, because we had a minute to get to each other, three minutes to kiss, and then a minute to get to our classes, but– I'm gonna stop talking. I have to get going. I'll see you at home?"
"Yeah– make sure Chris does his homework, alright?"
"I always do. Don't forget the ingredients for the brownies while you're at the store. Also, we'll talk tonight, right? About..." Buck waves his hands, motioning them between he and Eddie and the locker room.
"Of course we will, and I won't forget. Now go pick up my son from school," Eddie says, caressing Buck's face one more and giving him a kiss on the cheek.
Buck smiles, reciprocating the cheek kiss before he jogs off to his jeep. Eddie watches fondly as he goes, turning to say goodbye to everyone, but pausing when he sees the looks on their faces. That, and the fact that Bobby had come out of his office but hadn't said a word.
"Like I said," Bobby says with the smallest smile, "It's not hard to put two and two together."

Hi!!!
So, out of genuine curiosity, if they were to make spinoffs from Gilmore Girls, what would you like to see?
Personally, I would love to see a spinoff of Jess and someone who could be a version of Jess, like Doula, who we haven't seen. And also, it would be flipping the main idea of Gilmore Girls- from 'mother and daughter being friends' to 'brother and sister being more like a father and daughter'. And then Rory could be like the stand-in version of Luke, and she finds herself pining over him.
Another one, for me, would be Jess's spinoff but with Doula instead, maybe finding a relative and staying with them, eventually trying to piece together her identity as both a Danes and well, TJ's last name...
What do you think of these?
Also, love your AYITL 2 head-canons... Do you have any ideas for Doula and what her relationship could be with Jess? And who do you think should play her? My personal pick is Izabela Vidovic, cause she has the same eyes as Milo Ventimiglia, and she has a very distinct Jess vibe, if you see her in Homefront (2013) and the Veronica Mars reboot.
Anyway, sorry this got too long. Thanks. 😃
God I love your asks!! Anyway I never put too much thought to gilmore girls spinoff but however, if we’re talking about next gen thing? i want it to be about Rory’s kids, or rather, the Mariano - Danes family after Liz left again. In my headcanons, Liz leaves again and she never comes back, which lead Luke takes care of Doula as he did with Jess. But Doula is more open and yeah, in a lot of hurt, but she still has her father and her uncle and Lorelai to take care of her. I’d love to see Lorelai - Doula dynamics because I think, by the time Liz would leave, Lorelai is already part of their family at this point. Doula calls Lorelai “Aunt Lor” since she can remember, they are a family and the situation is very different to what it was with Jess.
But I think Jess would struggle with that a lot. With Liz’s leaving again. He’d blame himself over it again and again, he wouldn’t want Doula to feel what he felt since he was 8. But I also think about how he’d never pack her stuff and told her to leave with him. She has her father, and while I don’t think T.J is very bright or smart, I think he would do anything for Doula to make her feel okay again.
I would love to see Rory & Doula relationship! Especially if Doula ain’t book-nerd as her brother and his wife. I think their relationship would be so interesting to explore. Mostly because I don’t think Rory was around when Doula was growing up, not as Luke or Lorelai were.
I see Doula as more of a gamer teenager? She’d love Zombie and Apocalypse shit, her favorite game would definitely be tlou in my opinion and I think she’d make everyone play it!
Doula and April relationship is something that I would love to explore as well! Actually, I would love to explore Rory - April relationship but also April / Jess / Doula relationship with Luke and his different approach to each of them.
I read @lanekim great fanfic the other day (haven’t finished it yet!!!) about how Luke is actually the town dad and how he takes in the kids nobody wants and i think it’s very true and i think he is a father figure to most of the kids of stars hollow, not just to Rory or Jess…
Anyway now I need that Doula spinoff lol 😂

ITS MY BEST FRIEND IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD @kalijami'S BIRTHDAY SO I WROTE ZEM BIRTHDAY FANFICTION WITH THEIR OC SETH TORRAD
Idia wasn't great with crowded places. He tended to shut down anywhere that was too loud or too populated. He often didn't even go out in person, preferring to interact using his tablet.
Seth knew this. Zae had started a relationship with Idia a few months ago. The two of them had bonded quickly in a forum for a video game series they both enjoyed. Idia loved the series passionately, as did Seth. They found comfort in each other and the lack of judgement towards their partner. It quickly developed into a relationship.
So when Seth suggested that they go into the middle of Sage Island on a weekend, Idia was confused. He knew Seth was aware of his social anxiety and how it affects him. He didn't understand why they would ask to go into town.
"It's a surprise!" Seth replied once Idia finally asked why they even considered the idea.
"Okay... I trust you," Idia said, watching how Seth's sharp teeth showed as he started to smile.
A few days later and they were off. Seth had called in a favor from Crowley that allowed the two of them to take the mirror into town, right around where they wanted to be.
Idia was stumped. He was standing in front of an ordinary mall with an almost empty parking lot.
"Where are we?" Idia asked, perplexed.
"Just wait! I swear it'll get good soon," Seth replied, taking Idia's hand and pulling him into the mall.
The stores were almost all shut down, save for a few. There was a restaurant and a bookstore. Yet the mall was almost entirely devoid of life. Of course there were employees and a few people wandering around. Idia was entirely unfamiliar with the place, but Seth seemed to know it like the back of zaer hand.
Idia stopped in front of a huge comic store. There were some arcade cabinets and pinball machines at the front. There were figurines and DVDs and manga and comics and games. His eyes practically sparkled from joy.
"See, I told you that you'd like it!" Seth said, softly nudging their boyfriend to go inside.
Idia adored the place. It had posters for his favorite movies and figures from his favorite games and little pieces of merchandise from almost every media he loved.
"Okay so should I get the Star Rogue figure or the blacklight Pumpkin Hollow poster? Because I haven't seen that poster anywhere before but the figure is super rare and really cheap here compared to how it would sell online," Idia was talking a mile a minute, but Seth kept up with every word.
"We can always come back!" zae said, smiling over at zaer excited boyfriend.
"True true," Idia replied, before settling on the figure and asking if maybe the employees could hold one of the posters for a week or two.
The two of them strolled out, Idia holding a plastic bag in one hand and Seth's hand in another.
"That was really cool, thanks." he said, the tips of his hair fading into a soft pink.
"It's not over," Seth replied, pulling Idia into the next store over.
The pair walked through a draped fabric curtain and into a small room packed to the brim with arcade cabinets. Stars and planets decorated the carpet, illuminated under blacklight. Seth walked over to a nearby machine and put 10 madol in, receiving a large handful of coins.
"Okay so I don't really remember how I found this place but I do know they just so happen to have a Star Rogue cabinet that's in and out of circulation. So I kinda had to drag you here," Seth fidgeted with his feather earring, purple tail swishing behind them.
And Idia could not hold back his grin as he grabbed a coin and pushed it into the slot of the game, listening to the theme music he cared for so dearly and watching the game start.
And Seth's bright yellow eyes were fixated on him. The way he deftly controlled the joystick and the way Idia's eyes focused on the screen. They were alone in the room and they felt like the only people in the world.
Idia beat it with the almost impossible skill that can only come from someone who's played the game a thousand times before. It felt like muscle memory to him.
"Holy shit! I cannot believe you found this! Do you have any idea how rare these cabinets are?" Idia was almost laughing. The joy in his eyes was like nothing Seth had ever seen.
"I did! So I knew you had to see it in the flesh," and zaer voice was tender. They knew everything Idia had been through. He knew how rare it was to see these moments of pure joy. So they savored it with everything in them
"Thank you," Idia replied, copying Seth in his softness. Soft like the pink of his long hair under the blue-purple light of the arcade.
Seth cupped Idia's face with one hand and brought him closer. Into a kiss holding all of the joy and the sweetness that Idia brought into his life.
They split after a few moments. The only sound was soft breathing and the calming cacophony of dozens of video game songs playing simultaneously, until Seth broke the silence.
"We still have like a bajillion tokens. You wanna watch me kick ass at Galaga?"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUDE!!!!!!

📕📗📘📙
okay so when people send me multiple emojis I try to do one fic idea for each book so uh. this may get long.
📕
I have this fic idea I'm in love with but haven't been able to take the time to sit down and write because it requires some kind of careful writing to make it work.
After he got home from Korea, Trapper started working as a general surgeon at Boston Mercy. Once he get settled, he wrote a letter to Hawkeye, but it came back marked "recipient deceased." I don't usually use the "Trapper thought Hawkeye was dead because of The Late Captain Pierce" trope but I did this time. So Trapper thinks Hawkeye is dead, mourns, and doesn't talk about him much. A year and a half or so later, the Korean War ends, and Boston Mercy gets a new chief of thoracic surgery. Trapper has to go to this hoity toity reception for him and he's miserable and he's gossiping and one of his coworkers tells him Winchester only got the job because a nurse named Houlihan pulled some strings with Harwell. Trapper says "Hot Lips Houlihan??" and then Charles, who's standing right behind them, says "well, when I knew her, she went by Margaret."
So Trapper and Charles figure out they were both at the 4077th and start talking about it, but Trapper just assumes Charles was Hawkeye's replacement (they have the same specialty after all) and when Charles talks about his annoying roommates he thinks one of them is Frank. This goes on for a while where they're having two completely different conversations (which is why it's so damn hard to write!) until finally Charles mentions Pierce by name and Trapper practically shouts "Benjamin Franklin Pierce???" and Charles says "his friends called him Hawkeye. I did not." And Trapper finds out he's alive and in Crabapple Cove and he's like I have to go to Maine right now immediately.
It will probably end when Trapper shows up at Hawkeye's door.
📗
I want to write about Hawkeye getting Sometimes You Hear the Bullet published. He gets home and mostly he wants to be left alone, he's not ready for all the small town socializing yet, but he goes to see the Gillises. He sits with them and Mrs. Gillis serves him bad coffee and when she leaves the room Mr. Gillis gives him liquor to put in it and tells him it's the only way it's drinkable and he's never done this, not even when Hawkeye visited as an adult, and he realizes Mr. Gillis sees him as a man now in a way he didn't before because he's been to war. Mrs. Gillis comes back with Tommy's manuscript of You Never Hear the Bullet, which was sent back to them along with the rest of his personal effects. She tells him they don't know what to do with it, and they were hoping he could do something. So he takes it home and he tries to finish the book but he can't. So finally he just writes an afterword, explaining who Tommy was and what happened to him and why the book was called You Never Hear the Bullet and isn't anymore. Amy Clark (the teacher friend from Letters) drops by to see Hawkeye and he shows it to her and asks if it's any good and she says it's perfect. She asks him about visiting her class from last year, since they enjoyed the letters so much, but he's reluctant and she doesn't push. I may or may not leave this part in (it may be a separate fic instead) but Hawkeye goes to Boston to see a publisher but panics. He needs to talk to someone who understands both Korea and Tommy, even a little, so he shows up at Trapper's doorstep (they haven't spoken since Trapper left). And Trapper is home and they talk and things are okay with them. Also, Trapper asks "what happened over there after I left?" and Hawkeye says "same war as before" and Trapper says "I mean what happened to you" and Hawkeye tells him he was in the hospital but he doesn't tell him why because he sees Becky and Kathy's baby pictures in the living room and he just can't. He gets the book published as Sometimes You Hear the Bullet by Private Thomas Gillis with afterword by Captain Benjamin Franklin Pierce, MD and he hates that but the publisher insists on it. He doesn't tell anyone else from the 4077th about it, although he does mail Father Mulcahy a copy since he did Tommy's last rites, and everyone else finds out when they see it on the bookshelves.
📘
Changing gears to The West Wing, I always wondered about Stanley talking to the rest of the cast about Josh, but this fic isn't actually that, it's the lead up to that, where everyone kind of gets together and says yes, they're all seeing the same thing, and Leo tells them ATVA is coming. Toby sees Sam after the Oval Office meeting and asks how it went and Sam distractedly says fine and Toby asks if he's sure and Sam says yes and kind of blows him off insisting nothing happened. And then later Leo gathers them all in his office, late, after Josh has left, and asks them what they've noticed and tells them about ATVA and that the ATVA guy will be asking them too. And Toby looks directly at Sam and says "something happened" and Sam says yes and Toby asks why he didn't tell him and Sam says "because if it happened to me I wouldn't want anyone to know and neither would you."
📙
I'm trying to avoid saying too much about this one because it's next if I ever finish ghost AU, but I have a GFA time loop fic in mind, where Hawkeye relives the Fourth of July again and again trying to make it come out right. It's a time loop that resets when he dies, rather than being tied to a specific time.

Here's Amore Rosa! Another fan part OC, temporary side antagonist, and equivalent to Melone! Character info under cut.
He's interested in people. Really interested in people. He wants to know about people's behaviour, how they react to certain things, why people love each other. He really wants to get close to people and find love (not strictly romantically) but he just has difficulty understanding people. His studies are out of curiosity and a desire for knowledge, but also a want to be able to understand people so he can get close to them.
He started working for Aureliano because he was offered money, resources for his experiments, and a chance to travel and find people who care about him. Aureliano wasn't being truthful about the last part, but he was able to find friendship with Merlin. Amore saw how cold and distant Aureliano was, and heard from Joyce how unloving he was towards his family. He, along with Merlin, quit and decided to step back from the conflict. He admired Joyce and her love for her friends though, so he still offered some assistance.
Asides from psychology, he also specialises in chemistry.

☆ Pairing: Au!Kuroo Tetsuro x f!reader
☆ Summary: Two broken hearts never truly heal no matter how many years pass. Maybe because the only person who can heal it is the one who caused the tear.
☆ Warning(s): angst, fluff,
☆ A|N: any feedback is appreciated! If you can please give it a heart or reblog it would really help my writing. Thank you!
Kuroo sighed for what seemed the millionth time today. His mind kept wandering off somewhere else, today felt different. There was something within him saying that today wasn't going to be the same again.
His phone vibrated once more alerting him of another incoming message. The screen lit up with the name Nanami. His lips moved as he saw the words spread out on the white background. Closing his eyes he leaned back against his office chair.
"What's with your face?" a voice spoke.
Kuroo rolled his eyes, "Nothing is wrong with my face, Kenma."
"Liar." he placed the folder down on his desk, "Is it Nanami?"
"No..." he half smiled "She's great actually... things are good between us right now."
"For someone who says that it sure doesn't look like it." Kenma said "Could have fooled me."
He sat up and looked at his friend, "Is there something that still needs to be done?"
Kenma shook his head "No everything important got taken care of."
Standing up he grabbed his blazer and put it on. "If anyone else calls can you take care of it?"
"Ok." before Kuroo could make it out the door, Kenma then asked him "Are you going to be alright?"
"I'll be alright. See you tomorrow..." he slightly smiled then took off.
Your feet grew tired as you kept walking the busy streets. The sun was just about to set down on the ocean. Even though it was warm, the air was nothing but fresh, the perk of living near coast.
A small smile formed on your lips as you saw kids running around the nearby playground, playing with their friends. It was the purest sound in the world; you thought.
There was never a doubt in your mind that being a mom was a gift. You hoped one day you too would have the chance at raising a mini you or a little boy that looked like your partner.
Your phone then rang. You quickly took it out of your bag and accepted the call.
"Hey love." you said "I'm on my way back home."
"I can't wait to see you." he said, making your chest tighten "I might be preparing something delicious for tonight."
"Really?" you asked "What's the occasion?"
He smiled, leaning back against the sink. "What, I can't just do something special for the love of my life?"
Your smile faltered as you remembered those words. Those were the ones that hurt you the most, even after almost 10 years.
"Of course you can." you replied "Can I have a hint on what it may be?"
"You would figure it out right away like last time. I'm not making that mistake again." he chuckled.
"It was one time, h/n." you smiled small, "Do you need me to bring something home from the store? I'm close to it."
"Pick out any drink you want to have and dessert if you'd like."
"Okay now I'm really curious about what you have up your sleeve, boy." you chuckled.
He bit his lip, smiling as he heard your laughter. "Don't take too long, alright?"
"I'll do my best love since it is rush hour. Wait for me?"
"Like you have to ask." he leaned over checking the food "I can't wait to see you. Text me when you get to the station."
"I will, love." you bid him goodbye and hung up.
It's sad how he has tried his best to make you happy and yet there's never a moment where something doesn't remind you of him. All these years you still wonder about how he's doing with his new partner. If he could accomplish the goals he had set out for himself. Even the thought if he maybe... still thought about you like you did.
Sighing, you shook your head "Stop it... you can't keep doing this to him. You're with h/n now not with him, he chose you agreed. No more second guessing." You mumbled.
You were about to turn left at the end of the playground when a stranger collided into you. Your feet slipped from underneath you. The bar that was put up around the playground was too far away for you to hold on to. Folding your elbows back, you opened your hands wide so you could stop your head from hitting the pavement.
Lucky enough, the tall stranger reacted in time and pulled you into him to avoid you injuring yourself. "I'm so sorry, are you alright?"
"Y-yeah... I'm fine..." you replied "That was close- wow I almost fell-" you tilted your head up and your breathing stopped.
The stranger kept their arm around your back, holding you against his chest. His eyes roamed the details on your face, from your eyes to shape of your lips. His heart was pounding against his chest, not believing you were in front of him.
"K-Kuroo..." you muttered.
"Y/n... I never thought I'd see you here." his brain couldn't wrap around the idea that you were here.
Realizing your chest was too close to his, you gently stepped back. Your cheeks flushed "I- um... I-I work around here."
"Right..." he mumbled "I thought you had stayed in Tokyo, is all."
"I got a job offer awhile back." You said "I've been living here ever since. What about you?..."
He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling shy suddenly. "I'm working with a company on a project along with Kenma."
"Wow... I knew Kenma was in town but didn't think you'd be here as well."
His head shot up "You spoke to Kenma?"
"Yeah..." you answered "He reached out to me and asked if we could meet up. I've been busy so I haven't had the chance..."
"Why didn't Kenma say anything to me?..." there was hurt in his eyes from the sudden news. "I thought Kenma of all people-"
You cut him off "I told Kenma that I didn't want you knowing. Don't blame him..."
"I see..."
The cars passed by, not knowing or caring about the two ex lovers on the sidewalk. Every person was moving on with their lives, focusing on getting home to their families.
You tried your best to calm your emotions. It was difficult to keep the facade up. Your body was itching to be again in his arms. "I should get going... goodbye Kuroo." you walked passed him hoping to forget you ever saw him.
However, Kuroo didn't want to let you go again this time. "Y/n, wait!" he yelled as he ran after you.
"He's not calling my name..." you repeated under your breath "He's not calling my name." Ignoring the loud sounds coming from the cars, you crossed the street.
"Y/n!" Kuroo yelled louder as he reached for you and held your wrist gently in his hand.
Looking over your shoulder, you made eye contact. "What are you doing, Kuroo?..."
"We need to talk." he gently spoke "It's been too many years."
"There's nothing to say about anything." you looked into his eyes "We both have our different lives, let's focus on that okay?"
"I don't want to walk away from you and regret it for the rest of my life again." Kuroo begged, "Please, give me a few minutes to talk with you...please."
Looking down at your watch, you saw you had some minutes to spare. "Okay..."
He let go of you, "Come on, I know where we should go." you followed him to the nearby bridge that was above an intersection along with shops down the street. You walked up the stairs and sat down on a bench that was in the middle of the two stairways.
It was awkward. As the seconds passed by, all you could think of were the things you wanted to say but felt afraid of saying it out loud. You were timid when it came to expressing how you felt since you were in high school. Yet when you met Kuroo that barrier was destroyed only for it to be rebuilt again a few years later.
"What did you need to tell me?" you asked, playing with your fingers.
"I'm sorry for how we ended things." your movement stopped "I thought back then that it was for the best. I didn't want to continue fighting every time with you. The amount of times we ended up apart became more frequent than the times we had ever spent together." His gazed was fixed on ground feeling too vulnerable to look at you "I didn't want to keep hurting you."
"I can't believe- why now?" you asked "Was that the reason you chose? You didn't want to stay and fixed things so you let me go?"
"We couldn't make things better and you know that y/n." he answered "Every time we tried it put distance between us more and more."
You closed your eyes trying to not let the tears fall "It's the fact that you lost hope in us that hurt Kuroo, not the breakup."
"It hurt me too..." he explained "But it hurt me more knowing you were suffering and not giving you the happiness that you deserved."
"I didn't care..." you sniffled "All I wanted was to be with you and solved it together. I kept on trying to find an answer as to what I did that was so wrong that made you leave me."
"What are you talking about-"
"You seriously don't remember?" you looked at him "The things you said to me that day... when I asked you why and all you said was because I didn't love you anymore, I don't want to stay by you. It's for the best Y/n go find your own life and forget about me."
He looked away, closing his eyes tightly. "I didn't mean to sound harsh..."
"But you did." you wiped away your tears "What hurt was the fact that you acted happy the last few days with me then suddenly... you ripped it off like a bandaid Kuroo..."
"I know..." he said "I know I fucked up- I kept thinking back every day after what happened."
You got up from the bench "Why did you pretend you were happy with me?"
"I wasn't pretending!" he exclaimed, getting up as well. "I was happy being with you."
"Could have fooled me... because knowing this now and you not remembering what you told me makes it harder to believe anything you say!"
"I need you. Trust me when I say that I still love you y/n." he stated.
"I-I can't..." you muttered, covering your face.
You were a sobbing mess, and it broke his heart that he was hurting you again when he vowed never to. Kuroo stepped forward slowly, trying to approach you.
"Please don't cry..." he said.
"I'm just tired of this... feeling this vulnerable and thinking about you," you admitted, "when I should focus on my future and not on the past..."
Kuroo stood in front of you, "Do you still love me?..." you didn't answer. He carefully took your hands into his own as he uncovered your face. "Do you still love me?..." he repeated himself.
His touch was arm, your head was dizzy. It's been so long since you were this close to him again. 'Did I still love him?' you thought, trying to figure out the answer on your own.
He gently wiped away your tears, "Because I haven't stopped Y/n... no matter where I'm going or who I'm with my mind goes back to you."
"Where was this 7 years ago?" you questioned "This love and worry you have about me? How you don't want to see me walk away from you again. Why did you show it too late to me? I wasted so much time wondering over someone who never once batted an eye to me when I saw you on campus those two years after our break up. I almost failed because my emotions were all over the place. If it hadn't been for the friends I had I wouldn't have moved on. Now you suddenly see me again one day and you confess you still love me? When you had chance after chance to tell me but chose not to." you clenched your jaw "You don't get to comeback and tell me you love me... it's not fair."
"I lived with the ache in my chest whenever I saw someone or something that reminded me of you. Out of all the y/n's in the world and each time someone said your name I turned around it hopes it was you but came empty every time it was a stranger." he breathed out trying to not break down in front of you but it became impossible. His voice cracked "I-I... still wish everyday that it had been you... y-you by my side a-and not someone else..."
"I wished we had met when we were older and wiser..." you whispered "Maybe then... this pain wouldn't exist within us."
He held your hand to his chest holding it tightly as he closed his eyes, trying to memorize your warmth. "We didn't know what to do... we were young and naive thinking love was such an easy thing to feel." he sniffled "It would be so easy... so damn e-easy... to say I'm sorry and start all over again. To go back to the days where were in l-love... without any problems..."
In all your years you had known Kuroo it was such a rare sight for him to cry and breakdown in front of you. After years, you were surprised to see he didn't feel shy or embarrassed of showing it to you again. It's like he had grown.
Gently you cupped his right cheek and he leaned into your touch. "I still do love you Kuroo..." you confessed "It scares me that I haven't been able to move on without you."
"I'm so sorry..." the pool of tears he held in his eyes were finally escaping "Maybe things would have worked o-out... if we had- no I had expressed my feelings earlier and told you how I felt from the beginning. If I had opened up myself up to you more and not runaway from the only person that had ever made me feel a whole. But I can't... I-I can't turn back time that was then and t-this is now..."
It was late. Yet hearing those words that you had dreamed for years to happen finally did. Life was definitely funny sometimes. One day you can keep convincing yourself you don't need that person that you're fine without them, then have it change with one interaction.
Smiling weakly you wiped away his tears. He smiled small feeling your thumb gently move against his cheek. "I can't believe I'm saying this but..." a chuckle escaped your lips "After all we've been through and still you make my heart beat like a teenager all over again."
"I would do anything to see you smile, Y/n." his eyes shined brightly as the sun's light reflected off his hazel orbs.
Your faces began to grow closer to one another. The space that was in between you two got shorter the longer you stared into each other's eyes.
"There's not anything else in this world that makes me happy as you do, y/n." he said.
Your foreheads gently rested against one another. His hands held your own tightly and brought them up to his lips. It made your stomach grow butterflies again.
Closing your eyes you focused on his touch not on the sounds of traffic. "I’d have my heart broken all over again if it meant that I could have those first six months with you."
He added "Those were the best months of my life."
Your phone then vibrated with messages coming in all at once. Kuroo freed one of your hands, you unlocked your device to see they were from h/n.
"Shoot..." you bit your lip.
"Is everything alright?" he asked.
"My...um boyfriend... is asking where I am..." you answered feeling conflicted as to what would be the best thing to do.
"You call him and reassure him you're okay." he said "If I was in his place I'd be worried too."
You were surprised by how mature he was, nodding you dialed his number. After a few seconds h/n picked up. Kuroo stood by your side and waited for you to finish.
"Y/n! Where are you I've been worried sick!" he exclaimed.
"I'm sorry... I saw a friend and they needed to talk to me. I didn't mean to make you worry." you explained.
He breathed out in relief knowing you were okay. "It's okay, I'm glad you're okay. Are you on your way back home or are you still with them?"
"I'm still with them I didn't realize it would take long. But I'll be going to the station soon to grab the last train home." you answered.
"Alright, are you sure you don't want me to go pick you up?" he asked "I don't want anything bad to happen to you."
"No don't worry I'll be home soon. I'll make sure to keep you posted okay?"
"Okay, please be careful. I love you." he said.
"I will, see you soon." you hung up then looked at him. "I should get going, Kuroo."
"I understand." he kissed your forehead softly "You don't owe me an explanation okay? Let's take it one step at a time. And if you still want to see me then I'll be here waiting for you. Like I should have done in the beginning."
Your heart swelled with joy that you wrapped your arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. He smiled softly hugging you back tightly, "I missed you so much." you spoke burying your face in his neck.
"I missed you too, Y/n." he rested his chin on top of your head "Can I take you home?"
"I'd like that."
It didn't matter how long it took, he wasn't going to mess this second chance he had with you. He would wait a year if he needed to to be alongside you again. You were his world.

If you have time could you please write Frank pining over Alex and thinking he doesn’t reciprocate but he does?🥰
I love the way you write Alex’s struggle with the numbers and panic attacks also!
Aw thanks luv! And of course, let's buckle up and drive to fluff town folks! Also, if anyone needs relationship advice...don't go to Bell. 😅🤗
Frank Woods/Alex Mason [Fluff]
"Goddammit Frank, it's only 800 hours and you're already daydreaming." Said man was broken from his trance, realizing he had been staring at an oblivious Mason. He looked away, scowling when he saw Hudson's rolled up newspaper and knew that's what cut his thoughts off; and he hated that he was thankful for the distraction.
His eyes were a beautiful hue of earthly shades of green and brown and hints of grey. They were expressive, and Woods hated how often they darkened with sadness. Alex Mason was a broken angel, an angel deemed unlovable but Woods believed otherwise. He promised himself and Mason long ago that he will protect the younger man with his whole being, because there is no way Alex goddman Mason was going to end life without living every single minute. Love, a word Woods would always scoff at, hurt like a bitch.
"Boys, we're outta food!" Bell calls out from the kitchen, getting a loud groan of complaint from Sims. Woods smirked, hopping out of his seat and walking over to a clearly tired Mason, wrapping an arm around the shorter man's shoulders and pulling him close to his chest.
"Why don't we head down to Burger Town? I'm pretty sure they serve breakfast!" Mason chuckled, shaking his head and leaning closer to Woods, who held himself back from pressing a kiss on top of soft, messy brown hair. His nagging thoughts caused him to frown and pull away from Mason, immediately craving the warmth the other gave off in that goddamn caring and calm aura and-
"No, no. We are going to gain a hundred pounds if we continue eating off of greasy foods." Hudson speaks up, his glare pointed at Woods for his comment. Said man stuck his tongue out at him, then grabbed Bell once the youngest agent walked in.
"Haven't you gave Bell a good look over lately, old man? She's so small! Heck, maybe a few burgers would give her a few more inches to grow! Ain't that right, shrimp- ow!" Woods hopped on one foot as Bell had stomped on the other one, her usual friendly smile replaced with a scowl.
"I'm not that short, you bastard! But you're lucky I am craving a hamburger. Mason, convince Hudson!" Her orders were smug and sharp, getting Mason to put on a sad face and stare at Hudson. He tried looking away but couldn't, and sighed, waving off the others as they cheered. Woods managed to fight off a blush, but he felt lightheaded at how adorable Mason looked with those goddman puppy eyes of his. He ruffled the already messy bed hair, chuckling as Mason complained.
"Alright then, get ready, we'll leave in 20." Adler announces, walking off with Bell in tow. Mason sighs as he watched them, his eyes narrowed at Adler's retreating figure. Woods noticed and rolled his eyes, sitting on the table next to Mason and patting his shoulder.
"She's fine, man. You act like a mama polar bear." Woods laughed at his own "joke", getting a small laugh from Mason as well.
"I know...I just don't trust Adler. It bothers me, but if she's happy, then that's all that matters. Come on, Hudson is gonna get pissed if we're still.sitting out here when times up." Mason stands, stretching a bit before leading the way to their shared room. Woods dreams of them sharing a room, with one bed, with them sleeping together and him holding Mason tightly yet gently.
"Dreams aren't real, man." Is what the little nagging voice says, and it's what makes him deflate as he follows Mason.
The drive to Burger Town was full of chatter, with Bell and Sims getting into a mock argument to Hudson and Adler fighting on whether they'll be eating inside, outside, or in the car. Mason and Bell had begged to go to the nearest park with the pond and ducks, but Hudson was quick to shut down that suggestion. Mason had huffed, before turning to Woods and talking about some new educational thing he had read on some newspaper or magazine. Woods didn't pay attention to the words being said to him, no, he paid attention to how happy and content his best friend looked. When they did get to Burger Town, they decided to eat inside and Hudson immediately regretted the decision when Sims and Woods began acting up.
"Here my good sir, have my apple bits!" Sims says in a English accent. Woods shakes his head, holding up a apple slice and putting it in his shirt.
"No thank you, my good sir, for I have apple nipples!" Woods proceeded to push out his chest, where you can see the apple outline. Bell and Adler let out loud laughs and Mason choked on his shake. Sims ran up and out to the restroom, tears trailing down his face as he wheezed. Hudson was thankful it was still early in the morning and not many people were dining in, but the looks from the employees made him hide his face behind his newspaper.
"Fucking kids-" he grumbled under his breath. Mason patted Woods on the arm, still giggling as a small piece of strawberry slid down his chin.
"Frank, I spilled my drink on me, scoot over" Woods laughed at his friend, happy to know he got a good old laugh out of the usually quiet man. That's when he got an idea, and acted out on it when he heard Sims returning.
"Oh my damsel in distress! Do not worry, for I will rescue you!" Wrapping his strong arms around Mason's waist, he lifted up the somewhat lighter man and stood, smirking at the noise of surprise that left Mason. Woods walked over to the restrooms, stopping in front of the door and putting Mason down. The younger man hid his blush, a small smile tracing his lips as he awkwardly patted Woods bicep.
"Thank you, my dear prince." He plays along, his hand straying on Woods', his blush darkening and Woods felt proud to be the one to put such a pretty color on Mason's face. He leaned down instinctively, but Mason pulled away and rushed into the restroom, leaving Woods alone with his nagging thoughts once more.
"Stupid. Fucking stupid. There is no way in hell Mason likes you like that. Just good friends. Just. Friends."
Woods retreated back to the booth, forcing a smile at Bell. She tilted her head to the side, so identical like Mason's cute little head tilt, and if this was a whole other scenario where Woods didn't know Bell, he would've thought she was Mason's daughter.
"What the hell are you doing, Frank Woods." She says so casually but there was a deeper meaning in her soft voice. Woods shivered, wondering where the others were but saw them back in line, presumably to buy more food.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Emilia Emilsdóttir." He sings out her name, getting a small smirk from her. Bell leaned forward, her curly blonde hair framing her youthful face but her bright blue eyes were frighteningly dark.
"I know you'll treat Alex right, but if you make him frown even the slightest, you are dead. I worked with Perseus, remember? They won't know what happened to you if you hurt him." Adler walked over and Bell put on a friendly smile, scooting over for her fiancé. "So about that game, Woods."
Woods had paled definitely, but he knew the young woman meant good. It also gave him the boost he needed. He had to tell Mason, he had too. He couldn't stand being in this miserable loop of one sided affection. It might damage their friendship, and whatever dimmer of trust Mason has, but he always promised to tell the younger man the truth. He was done with lying.
Mason glared at his reflection, but he felt self conscious as he stared at himself. There is no way Frank Woods has any romantic feelings for him. He was just playing around, like what he always does. And sure it hurts, because Woods would never love him and he hates how Woods gives him that look, as if he was something so perfect and worthy.
"Damn it." He mumbled tiredly, averting his eyes elsewhere and ignoring the urge to look back at the taunting mirror. Someone could be there, and he was having a good time and didn't want his fucked up mind to ruin it. He walked out of the restrooms, smiling softly as he neared the table. Woods noticed him and stood, a charming smile tracing his lips as he bowed his head playfully.
"M'lady" he teases, and Mason bites his bottom lip in a weak attempt to stop his lips from tugging up in a big smile.
"Thank you, good sir" he says, sliding into his seat. Woods sat next to him, his arm hitting Mason's, and the warmth that radiated off the former Marine made Mason shiver. He looked at the addition of food and chose to distract himself from his wondering thoughts. "Did you order more food?" Sims points at Bell, who points at Adler, who then points at Hudson, only to drop his hand when the older man glared at him.
"Hey, we're growing boys!" Sims says, getting a innocent nod from Bell. Mason chuckled, about to grab one of his fries when a hand darted out and grabbed the one he was reaching for. Mason looked over at Woods, who snickered and chewed the fry he stole loudly.
"Frank Woods, you stole my french fry!" Mason says incredulously, "You gotta buy me more!" Woods turned to look at him, a grin on his lips and everyone immediately began to chant "no". The chewed up fry in Woods' mouth seeped out and Mason hit his arm, scolding him and trying to console Bell, who was encouraging Woods' behavior. Hudson groaned when he spotted an employee walk over and stood, getting everyone's attention.
"Let's go, I'm sure we're banned."
"Can we take the food?"
...
"Hurry up."
The drive back to their temporary home was also full of laughter and yells, and when they were all getting out, Bell dropped one of her many drinks. She gave one look to Adler, who nodded and they walked inside, and Woods made a joke about the two having silent conversations with their eyes. Sims laughed, but Hudson simply rolled his eyes and smirked.
"Reminds me of two good people I know." He remarks before dragging Sims inside, leaving Woods and Mason alone. Mason blushes, and he hopes he can blame it on the chilly weather as he walks over to stand next to Woods. Woods worried on his bottom lip before looking at Mason, smiling at how close the other was to him. And because of that cute little blush on his face.
"Hey Al," said man looked at him, eyes bright and that adoring look made his knees weak. "Listen, I gotta tell you something, and I want you to know that I am fine with whatever you have to say."
Mason tilted his head, "I won't judge you, Frank. You can tell me anything."
Swallowing the lump in his throat, Woods got on one knee and held Mason's left hand. "Alex Mason, since the first day I lay my eyes on you, I have loved you. You filled my empty heart, you made me believe that the world can be a better place. Your smile, it's always the highlight of my day, and I know, it's all cheesy or whatever kids say these days, but I love you. I have always loved you, and I understand if you don't feel the same, especially with everything that has happened these past years." Taking out a circle shaped object out of his pocket, Woods held it up with a dorky smile. Mason's eyes filled with tears he refused to shed, but they fell anyways. He inspected the object closer and let out a soft laugh, shaking his head.
"Frank Woods, is that a onion ring?" Woods shrugged, giving him a goofy look.
"Maybe, maybe not. But Al, would you take this ring and make me the happiest man on this crappy planet, and go out with me?" Silence settled over them, and Woods felt stupid for a second before he was tackled to the ground. Mason's arms wrapped around his neck and he embraced his newfound lover, his body shaking as he let out a small sob.
"I love you so much, Frank." He whispers, pulling away and smiling at the older man. Woods grinned, holding the piece of food still.
"So..." Mason laughed, gently hitting Woods on the chest and grabbing the onion ring, putting it on his ring finger. Woods leaned forward and captured those soft lips, his heart thrumming against his chest as Mason lightly deepened the kiss. It was slow paced but quick, full of love and passion. They pulled away, but their hands remained interwine with one another.
"I love you, Frank Woods."
"I love you more, Alex Mason."

Matt Murdock - I Can't Stop This And It's Killing Me (part 1/4)
Summary: Karen and Foggy think you and Matt are perfect for each other.
Word count: 1.2k
Warnings: Fluff and sarcasm.
Masterlist
"Karen stop I'm perfectly happy watching Netflix and spending my nights alone." You argue. Karen was your neighbor and tried desperately to hook you up with someone. She has worked with the new lawyers in town for a month and was already going on about how Matt would be perfect for you. You haven't even met him and she was already trying to get you two on a date.
"(Y/n) you have been in this city forever. As in forever alone-"
"What's wrong with that?" You cut her off.
"It can't be healthy! You need to get out meet someone, fall in love."
"Ha!" You laugh and stand up from the couch and walk to your kitchen. "That sounds overrated. I much rather spend my time with my boyfriends' named ice cream, movies, and bed." You defend as you start making a sandwich.
"Ughhh you're impossible to talk to do you know that?..... THAT'S IT. That's why you can't get a guy. You're cold-hearted, you push anyone away who shows the slightest interest in you."
"I'm not cold-hearted Karen I'm cold-headed. I actually have a heart and you of all people should know that." You sigh.
"I know. I'm sorry. But you need someone."
"No I don't, I don't need a guy to fulfill my happiness like I've said I'm perfectly fine being alone."
"Fine... Not happy (y/n)"
"I know you're just trying to help me. So I'm gonna think about it okay?" Karen smiles.
"Yeah. Okay. I've got to get to work but I'll talk to you later?" You nod and she walks out the door. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Hey, Karen did you talk to (y/n)?" Foggy asked when she entered the office. Before she answered she looked around to make sure Matt wasn't here yet.
"Yes I did but she's the most stubborn person I've met."
"More stubborn than Matt?" Foggy asked in disbelief.
"You've only met her once. She opens up more the second time around." Karen sits at her desk.
"Well, we should take her out again tonight. I'll meet her again then I'll talk to her."
"Ha okay, good luck. She's pretty dense. Fair warning 90% of what she says is sarcastic so don't take everything she says so seriously." Karen warns. The two have been trying to set you up with Matt but they needed to open you up to the idea first.
"Foggy if you're going on a date 'dense' doesn't sound like your type," Matt says walking into their finished conversation he heard as he came into the office.
"Well figured I should give every girl a shot you know since everyone is dying to get with a piece of this." He motions to himself making everyone laugh and Matt walks into his office. ________________________________________
"So what kind of girl is (y/n) when it comes to dating? I mean is she the 'baby' type? The clingy type?" Foggy questions as he sits across from Karen waiting for you to arrive after work.
"Oh god no, not at all. She's more old-fashioned. She would definitely prefer to be called 'darling' instead of 'babe'. She ah, likes to know a guy before they go on a date but Matt is a charmer no matter who he's around so that shouldn't be a problem."
"Ah, so she's the old-fashioned type." That's when you walked in and sit next to Karen.
"Would you two quit talking about me already I know how awesome I am you don't need to dwell on it." You joke making them laugh.
"Matt might have a run for his money if she's this humorous all the time."
"Wait you were in on this too? Is everyone ganging against me?" You look up as if talking to God.
"It's just fate. Your two are meant to be together that's why we keep pushing it." Karen answers.
"If it was fate, Matt and I would have met on our own."
"Sometimes fate needs a little push," Foggy said. You three spent the night at Josie's laughing and having a good time. _________________________________________
You woke up with a mild headache, your arm hanging off the bed. Your foot asleep and you were shaking it trying to get the needles and pins feeling gone. You reached for your phone to text Karen and see what her agenda was since you didn't work this weekend. After about the tenth text you got your ass out of bed and storm to her apartment.
"Karen!" You bang on the door when she doesn't answer you pick her lock to make sure she's okay. When you enter her apartment you see her phone on the table and her not in the apartment. You get a little nervous but decide to stop by her work before you jump to any conclusions.
Karen opens the door and is shocked when she sees you. "You forgot your phone." You hand it to her and she brings you in.
"(Y/n) what? How did you get into my apartment?"
"I may or may not have picked a lock. And I do realize what I'm saying at a lawyer's office but it was for a good reason. How was I supposed to know if you were kidnapped or something?"
"I could have been seeing someone."
"Please, I would know if you brought a guy home last night." She nods and you walk in. "So this is your office, can't believe I've never been here."
"Well, I hope we don't see you in here for anything serious and it's just a friend visiting friends," Foggy says. You laugh.
"Nah I came here with a mission. That mission was bringing my best friend her phone so she could call me if something happened to her." You eyeball her and she sounds an exasperated sigh.
"Thought I'd join the party." Matt came out and stood in his office doorway holding his cane. Everyone looks at him realizing he heard everything that was said.
"Ha if I realized Matt was here I wouldn't have said that thing about you bringing a guy home." You joke.
"Yes, you would have." Karen and Foggy both said. You smile.
"Yeah, I know. I'm (y/n)." You introduce yourself to Matt.
"Matt but you already knew that." He smiles and holds a hand out while you take a step over and shake it.
"Well, you're not missing and you have your phone now so mission complete." You say to Karen. "I'll be leaving now." You turn to leave.
"(Y/n) come on please stay you can help me on this case." Trying desperately to keep you here so you and Matt could talk to each other.
"Nice try Foggy, I'm not an idiot. It was nice to finally meet you, Matt." With that, you walk out of the office.
"(Y/n)'s pretty cool huh?" Foggy asks Matt.
"That's who you two keep talking about? The one that's sarcastic and dense? The one you two are trying to set me up with?" Matt asks smirking.
"Yeah..." Foggy mumbles.
"Seemed nice," Matt said.
"You don't live next to her." Karen comments. Everyone laughs then goes back to their office.

side character deaths in buffy
I've been thinking a lot recently about death in buffy, mainly inspired by Help and everything that has to say to us about avoiding, accepting and understanding death
obviously the main characters' deaths are heartbreaking, because they're written to be heartbreaking and break our relationships with characters we love and know well. buffy (twice), angel, spike, joyce, tara, anya, and all the many alternate universe and dream vision deaths that kill the main characters rip my heart out of my chest for obvious reasons. but today I've been thinking more about the deaths of people we didn't know that well and whose deaths we watch without knowing them well. so I'm gonna talk about some of those cause it's my blog and you can't stop me.
(for the purposes of this post I'm counting main characters as anyone who was in the credits, with the addition of joyce because come on)

These two deaths both make you gasp for the same reason - they're sudden, physically icky (warren has the edge here with the flaying but the dark blood and death rattle for allan is also horrible to watch) and while we don't have a lot of positive feelings for the victim, we gasp because of what it means for the murderers and how we suddenly realised this season is going to get darker than we thought. faith and willow both spend the rest of their time on the show dealing with the consequences of these deaths and the audience knows in the moment they happen what it has to mean for the main characters. we want to save faith and willow from the consequences of having done this. just like faith, we're confused in the dark when a figure comes towards the slayers and we don't realise what's happening immediately, and with willow we've been watching her friends approach through the forest the whole time she's giving her evil speech thinking they have to be in time to stop her because no way would the writers let willow torture a man to death on screen. If warren or the deputy mayor had died because of a demon or accident we probably wouldn't have noticed (in the deputy mayor's case) or we'd have actively applauded (I rly wanted to watch warren die).
Jesse in The Harvest
Tumblr media
I'm guilty of forgetting about Jesse (and so is the buffy writers room when they fail to mention him for seven years) but killing off a character who looked all set to become a scooby in the pilot and then making his best friend dust him as a vampire was both shocking and showed us a lot of the issues the show would go on to consider in miniature, right at the start. we've had campy vampires running around and wisecracking, we've had vampires being cool and edgy, the master being a total ham, but then we suddenly have to watch xander grapple with the idea that vampires are more than strangers in graveyards, they're the people you knew with yellow eyes and no soul, they can talk to you with all their childhood memories of you intact. season one might do a lot of floppy cardboard monsters but Jesse's death tells us they fully intend to Go There with the horrifying psychological implications of what vampires can do to you.
Jenny Calendar and Kendra Young in Passion and Becoming
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think of these deaths together because they were both characters that we half-knew and thought we'd get to know more. they were both characters who we felt could have gone on to be in the credits, have their own plots, and had a lot left to explore on the show. having two slayers in town could have been interesting (and would go on to be interesting in season three) and as well as her love story with Giles, we'd just had the veil pulled back about Jenny's heritage and reason for coming to Sunnydale - so both of these deaths were in the horrible sweet spot of having got to know the characters more than someone like Jesse, but not feeling 'done' with them yet. they were both killed by vampires who didn't even feed on them, by neck injuries that weren't bites by 'big bad' vampires who were really after someone else. after their deaths they both set more in motion and had long thematic afterlives - we think about Kendra when faith is called, and when we meet the potentials, and Jenny gives us the soul curse and gets willow started casting spells. Kendra definitely deserved more remembering than she got, and in a world where Joss Whedon had more time for Black characters I like to think we'd have got more of her and Mr Pointy.
the normal teens buffy couldn't save
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
before I started writing this post, I knew this was where we were going to end up.
(Jonathan maybe doesn't totally count here but I did because his final lines made me so sad)
characters who chose to join a battle between good and evil and died as part of that fight break my heart, but at least with Jenny and Kendra they knew at least partly what they were signing up for. Larry and Harmony we knew enough to have compassion for, and even when they were mean they were mean in regular school kid ways rather than big bad evil ways. I went to school with all of these people and probably so did everyone else.
Larry and Harmony died on graduation day when they were meant to be becoming adults under posters that said 'the future is ours' - Larry was newly out as gay and Harmony was about to get out from under the popular girls and maybe become a person who could stand on her own two feet, and Buffy could have helped them if there'd been less murder and death going on everywhere around them. harmony as a screaming blonde teen was exactly the type of victim buffy saves ten times an episode in alleys outside the bronze. Jonathan had more of an arc but at the end, back in high school after making an optimistic, bittersweet speech about coming to terms with high school and being optimistic about the rest of his life, leaving behind Andrew and Warren's bitter obsessive revenge of the nerds fantasies.
and Cassie, my heartbreaking queen, the one that gets me more than anyone that I wrote about a lot yesterday, knew what was coming and that no one could save her, and all the things she listed that she knew she'd miss were teenage coming of age things. she wanted to go backpacking, attend college, go to a dance with a boy, and fall in love one day. the whole of Help, she's considering the rites of passage she won't get to do, and in her therapy sessions Buffy tries to inspire her to want to go to college or join the french foreign legion. for buffy, saving Cassie means giving her a future. we haven't met the potentials or heard the word potential yet in Help but this episode is all about potential, and Buffy's attempts to save a life meaning safeguarding someone's potential and right to grow up.

LOVEFOOL
Author’s note: HELLO! This is my part for the Valentine’s Day challenge that @1dffchallenges put together. Make sure to keep an eye out for any other pieces published by other authors. Enjoy! And happy Valentine’s weekend! (:
Summary: Harry agrees to go on a blind date set up by his friends in hopes that it will help him move on from an unrequited love.
Word count: 3K
Challenge prompt and dialogue: blind date set up by friends. “I don’t want this to end...”
Tumblr media
There’s a first for everything. Harry’s had his fair share of them at the age of twenty-seven. First time on an aeroplane at the tender age of six for a family holiday in Rome. First kiss on his home town’s park with someone he deeply cared about. First time in a recording studio. First time going on tour. The first night spent alone in his new and barely furnished home. The first morning he laid eyes on the girl next door. The ugly heartbreak after she got married, certainly felt worse than his first one.
Life is full of firsts, Harry knows that, and he wishes to have been the first to sneak his way into Jane’s heart, all those years ago.
"You love her" it almost sounds like an accusation coming from Jeff, though the last thing he wants is to make Harry feel guilty. The musician doesn't reply, he shrugs, eyes never leaving her no matter how deep into the ocean she seems to be. "Does she know?" Harry shakes his head in denial. "Did you bring her along just so you could tell her?"
"I enjoy writing music with her, that's why she's here," his tone leaves no room for more questions, the manager knows and sighs defeated. Harry stands from his spot on the beach and heads back inside the house, alone.
Is he being that obvious?
He reviews the past few days and wonders where he slipped, nothing rings any bell. Harry completely and conveniently forgets how he doesn't nag her for having a smoke after dinner, instead he just opens the window and stands close to it, or how he's been making her a cuppa everyday at noon. But it was the time when Jane asked him to help her French plait her hair when something clicked in Jeff's brain, the way Harry beamed at such a simple request left no room for questioning. Yet he asked him, because there was that tiny chance of it all being part of the manager's imagination, but when he looked back on it, the little things now made more sense to him and in a way he always knew.
They've been in Port Antonio for two weeks now and everything was going just dandy, Harry was writing more than ever, the first week he had a new song every day, he even polished the old ones and had a tune for his favourites, thanks to Mitch's help. When Jeff Azoff got there earlier this week, he spent a good two hours talking to Jeff Bhasker about how much of a good idea the trip was.
"Harry is on a writing spree." He complimented Azoff's client, it was nothing but the truth. However the reason for it all, was now heading back to the house to join the others after a good surfing session.
Jane went straight to take a shower, ready to rinse all the ocean's saltiness from her body, thinking how wonderful it would've been if her own worries could be washed away with her tangerine shampoo. In contrast to Harry's good spirits and excellent mood, her own cloud of trouble seemed to follow her all the way from London. She still hadn't heard from her husband, so it is safe to say he was still upset about her going away to work in Harry's album. It was impossible for her to forget the argument they had, at first thinking it was a joke on his side, insinuating that they were ‘shagging behind his back’.
After her shower, wearing comfortable clothes, Jane joins the others for supper but keeps to herself, still with the dichotomy about calling Alex or letting him be. He will eventually come to his senses and apologise.
What if he doesn't?
The thought alone of her clothes being packed in boxes by the time she gets back home almost makes her cry, perhaps she can call or text him just to test the waters. It is ridiculous how she seems to be more mature about this than him.
"Penny for them?" Harry's voice brings her back to the now empty dining room, the voices from the rest of their party can be heard from the living room.
"God I'm sorry H, lost myself out there for a moment," she is embarrassed, with him, the others and herself for letting this situation get under her skin. And she's also avoiding talking about it, with Harry or anyone. "I was just thinking about the tempo for Sweet Creature."
"Liar," he hates to be shut down by her more than anything. "Is it because I didn't let you eat the last peanut drop the other day?" It would've been easier for her to say it was, than to address the actual reason. But Harry hasn't lied to her, ever.
"No love, although I was a bit hurt because of that, it's actually this thing with Alex we are, I don't know, he was upset with me and said some things," Jane couldn't finish, her speech was cut short by a quiet sob and Harry was quick to pull her from the chair onto his lap and hold her tight. His own heart speeding at the sight of her distressed.
"When was the last time you spoke to him?"
"Two weeks ago." Her voice barely whispers on his chest, "he's being a wanker to be honest, just because he's not going on tour with any of his bands I'm supposed to be a stay at home wife!"
"Why don't you explain this to me, from the beginning, please?" He asks rubbing her back soothingly, and she spills it all, the having kids now or never argument, to her wanting to have a proper wedding party and finally the latest fight where Alex suggested an affair going on between her and Harry, the latter had to do his best not to put the option on the table, since her husband so kindly suggested it. Might as well, he thought. "It all sounds like a big misunderstanding, I know you're a great communicator sunshine, so it baffles me that you've let this go on for so long." He's got a point.
"You're right, but I feel like it's his turn, you know?" Jane's done weeping, but remained on her friend's lap and arms, head resting on his shoulder. "He's always forward, mature, a proper thirty year old except when it comes to arguments where we ought to reach an agreement," she plays a bit with the cross hanging from his neck, a scowl on her pretty face. "Like with the children thing, we only stopped arguing when I said that maybe in two more years we could have one instead of, you know, my early thirties." It's good that she can't see how upset Harry is.
"You gave into that one, he should do the same but it's his choice," Harry sighs and can't believe what he's about to say. "Take the day off tomorrow, call him or FaceTime, Skype whatever you choose, but have a proper conversation with him." She wants to argue and say it's not necessary to be absent the whole day, she can spare a few hours. But she will need time to think about what to say, make her point clear so they are on good terms until she goes back to London.
"Fine, but if he is still acting like a dickhead afterwards, I'm not going to let it into my head anymore, we will continue to bask in this great work environment going on here." Jane states, pulling away from his embrace just enough to give him that stern look she uses when trying to make a point, and Harry nods with a warm smile, the one she never gets tired of seeing. "I'll call it a night now, gonna be asleep in seconds now that I've got that out of my chest." She stands from his lap, missing his warmth instantly. "Thanks for that."
"Anytime honey pie." Harry says before leaving a kiss on her left hand that burns her skin from then till morning.
Jeff joins the musician in the dining room right after the girl walks away to her room, he takes a seat across from him and scrutinises the look of adoration his friend still sports once she is out of the room.
"She'll never know, if you never tell her." Jeff is right, but the thought alone of going through that again scares him to death. Or so he says, because there's a part of him that is fond of the thrill it makes him feel.
"It's not like I haven't tried, just last year I told her," Harry remembers that night vividly, how pretty she looked even with her makeup all smudged under her eyes. "I'm not sure if she heard, it was too loud like where we were at the time." He was also pissed out of his mind.
"H, there's nothing wrong with being in love."
"I'm not saying it is, but even if she did love me I– I would find a way to hurt her. Anyway. she's happily married now, it's too late." Saying it out loud doesn't hurt him any less like he thought it would. Harry sighs in defeat before rising from the chair, "she's everything to me, I wouldn't mess with her head by confessing my feelings, deep down I always knew she deserved better and now she has it and that's good enough for me." The musician disappears through the corridor where his everlasting love did just a few minutes ago, he paused for a moment outside her room, pondering whether to barge in and just follow his instincts, kiss her like he should've done after winning that award back in 2014.
Harry shakes his head and goes straight to his room, he reminds himself that it was time to let her go. It's for the best. He is not good enough for her, he can't even write a song for her, about her. He mustn't love her that much then.
What Harry doesn't know is that he can't write a song about her because he loves her too much, the poor lad can't even figure out where to start. But he's about to get rid of that curse in a day or two, he just needs to be patient.
The reward for it came, all of a sudden Harry wrote too many songs about her until she inevitably became aware of the situation they were in. Harry vowed to stay away from Jane’s life after recording the album. He dated people that didn’t remind him of her, and even moved temporarily to Japan. But despite all his efforts, four years later Harry still finds himself thinking about her, everything seems to be tainted by her. The music he adores, the new dinner recipes he cooks, the books he chooses to read.
Completely out of options he agreed to this blind date his friends set up for him.
He arrives at the modest restaurant they so kindly chose for the occasion. “All you have to do is wear something nice and show up.” Alexa reminded him over the phone last week.
This is a new first for him, it is also exciting, to take a seat at a table for two conveniently placed at the back, pretend to pay attention to the menu but let his green eyes avert to whoever approaches. Harry is having a great time, he knows that soon his date will arrive. He wonders what they’ll be like.
According to Alexa and Pixie, the person arriving is the perfect match for their young friend. Harry can only hope they like Vietnamese cuisine because that’s apparently this place’s special offer this week. If he’s lucky enough the date will agree to share a starter and perhaps two main courses, that way he doesn’t have to choose between one or the other.
“Here’s your table.” Harry hears the waiter speak and his gaze meets a very familiar figure standing beside him. It can’t be.
“Excuse me, there must be a mistake, I’m waiting for someone else.” Harry protests.
The waiter shakes his head and shows him the notepad with some specifications written down. “Nothing wrong, got specific instructions from Miss Chung, a lady will come in to say is here for Geldolf’s blind date, you are sitting at the table they reserved. I’ll be back in a few minutes to take your order.” He is quick to explain and disappear.
Jane sits because there is no way she can stand any longer, her legs are about to give out from the commotion. This was not the blind date she was expecting either. It’s been at least four years since she last saw Harry. The night after he finally admitted being in love with her, waiting for a reaction, anything from her, after what seemed like hours but was only ten minutes later, he walked out of her house and entire life, leaving her confused and upset.
“How’ve you been?” she asked after confirming that Harry wasn’t going to up and leave.
“Pretty fantastic, until you arrived.” He’s never spoken to her like that before, with so much affliction in his tone. “What are you doing here?”
“I was set up on a blind date by Pixie—
He interrupts her. “That’s fucking convenient, did you all went to this much trouble, just to mock me? I thought they were my friends, you know, that even after everything, they cared about me.” Harry stops, his voice breaks, he’s so angry, hurt and confused by the situation. “Did your husband come along, to witness my humiliation too?” He looks around, trying to find the man of Jane’s dreams.
“I wouldn’t know if he’s here, haven’t seen him since we got divorced three years ago.” She snaps before hiding behind the menu from a gobsmacked Harry.
The words he’d been waiting to hear were finally out of her mouth. Unlike the million times he dreamt about this happening, Harry is not sweeping her off her feet and running away into the sunset holding her hand. Instead he reaches out to touch her arm, testing the waters. He waits for her to lower the menu and surprisingly there are no tears in her eyes. Perhaps only a bit of sorrow that is quickly replaced with confusion, at how fast her heart raced after Harry’s touch.
“Do you want to talk about it?” His voice is back to oozing the tenderness he reserves just for her. Jane nods.
“But can we share a rice bowl and Pho noodle soup?”
“Yes, and dessert too!” Even after four years Harry’s sweet tooth hasn’t changed, Jane sighs before the waiter is back to take their order.
Keeping a conversation between the two of them is not hard at all, even if it is an awkward topic —her not so recent divorce. “We didn’t have anything in common anymore, there were so many fights every single day. When I finally suggested the separation, he seemed relieved and I felt like a complete fool.” Jane remembers the sigh of comfort that came out of the man she once loved with all her heart before that rainy afternoon, when she finally decided that she’d had enough. “He left that night, hadn’t seen him since, his lawyer took care of everything,” a sour laugh escapes her lips, Harry’s eyes are full of sympathy for her. “I’m sorry for ruining your blind date, I know you’ve never been to one before.” Of course she did, she knows him better than anyone.
“This has to be the greatest date I’ve ever been to.” He speaks without a second thought.
All those years Harry spent away from Jane were not going to be in vain. He was not going to neglect the feelings he still had for her. That affection he felt for her, only her. Harry shifts in his seat, this is not at all how he planned it, in a restaurant full of people on fucking Valentine’s day. It almost seemed like a tacky move.
But after all this time of pining for her, hating her and himself at times. Harry was brave enough, it was now or never, he didn’t want to wait any longer, not after his friends schemed and executed this soppy plan to bring the two soulmates together. Before she could take the final bite of dessert that Harry kindly left for her. The world stopped.
“I don’t want this to end...” Harry says with a dimpled smile she can’t look away from. “I’d like to take you out on a second date, a third, fourth, fifth. Believe me when I tell you, I have planned up to a thousand of them.” He takes her hand in his and can feel her pulse race along his own. The smile splits his face again, because he knows, he feels, he sees it in her beautiful eyes. “Janey, you’re the first person I’ve ever wanted to hold on to. I know there is a name for this emotion, I’ve written songs about it, but now I don’t think it’s a word big enough for us.”
She squeezes his hand and breaths out a laugh, tears of joy brimming out of her eyes. “Let’s call it love, until we come up with a better name for it.” Harry agrees and just then, Jane brings up his hand to her lips.
His skin tingles where she kisses him for the first time and he beams at her.
There’s a first for everything, and although it feels like it for Jane and Harry, this isn’t by any means the first time they confess their love for each other. It was always there, in every laugh they shared, every song they wrote together, every touch. It was on Harry’s unwavering devotion, on his impatience and selfless actions throughout the years.
They were bound to be together, their story didn’t begin on that initial blind date, it did years ago after he caught a glimpse of her shiny black hair on the morning she moved into the house across the street.
Harry drives her back to her new flat on the other side of the city, enjoying every minute of the long ride, happy to hear her ramble about her newest obsession with romantic novels and burst out laughing after Jane confesses that sometimes she doesn’t finish reading books she likes, just to pretend the story keeps going. With a quick kiss to the back of her hand he completely agrees.
No tale is more compelling than one that never ends.
