If I could, I'd choose you (Royal!au)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Matty Healy x f!reader (and a bit of Prince!George)
A/N: Hiii guys, i come back with a royal!au i wrote AGES ago! I hope you like it...let me know!! <333
Warnings: hurt feelings, mention of death, typos.
Word count: 3.3 K
MASTERLIST
One year ago the kingdom went to war with a long life enemy. The kingdom won the war and
brought back home many treasures, but sadly they lost many people as well. The victory was bittersweet.
Among those brave men and women, the king gave his own life for the sake of the better good. With the supreme gone for good, the heir to the throne had to step in. Problem was, the king had three daughters: Y/n, Victoria and Angelica. Before Y/n was born the first the king and his helpers decided what would happen if he decided to decline or in the other case died.
During her entire life Y/n lived with the idea that someday she will be queen. At the very beginning, she felt lost and insecure. Since Y/n was only a little girl, running around the castle with her sister, she was far from sure about her being a good ruler or if she could do it without her father along her side. Time went by, and the little girl turned out to be a very confident woman, ready to rule since the first minute someone told her.
Duty called and Y/n answered for her people right away. Although she was still a young girl who suffered the loss of her father with her little sisters. On the contrary when they lost their mother, they were alone in the world except for the company of each other and most of the decisions– not to say all– fell on Y/n’s shoulders.
One of the many decisions she had to make was to find a husband. One of the big rules her father insisted was that when Y/n became queen she had to marry a wealthy man. Y/n hated her father for that, because she felt very capable of ruling on her own without a partner. Also, she didn’t have the time or energy for courtship, she had a lot of important matters to deal with instead of wasting her time.
Y/n tried to delay the choice as long as she could, although the time was ticking and her advisors -a couple of old men very old-fashioned- insisted on the matter every day a little more. So, despite her complaints the royal ball for Y/n to choose a husband was in the making.
She felt bad because, despite her opinions about it, the whole kingdom woke up. After a difficult war, with many losses and suffering, there wasn’t a single soul unhappy for this. The news about the influential men and princes that will come travelled fast and cheered everyone up. All of them were happy except Y/n.
………………..
The morning of the ball, Y/n woke up sensing her body vibrating with anxiety and wishing she could run away from this madness. But the sense of responsibility and duty keep her in place. Well, not in place exactly because she started to walk around the throne room from one side  to the other.
“Why are you huffing now?” Victoria, her sister, came in, interrupting Y/n’s thoughts.
Y/n turned to look at her, with an annoying face,“You know why!”
“The marring stuff?” she walked closer to her, while her velvet dress flew between her feet.
“Yes” she simply stated.
Victoria rolled her eyes visibly, “You’re making a big deal out of it…”
“Excuse me?” Y/n exclaimed.
“You heard me.”
“Yes, but watch out. I am…” the queen went to scold her, but Victoria interrupted.
“Yeah, yeah…the Queen. You still have to wait for the coronation to say that…” Y/n’s sister reminded her.
“Victoria!” Y/n warned her.
The girl was unbothered by her sisters words, she continued walking away from her going to sit at the throne. “As I was saying…”
Y/n stopped her this time, “I’m not making a big deal. I don’t understand why I have to marry someone I don’t know at all, just to claim my right of birth.”
“Because that’s the rule!”
“I know that part, but still…”
“Y/n, just do it and live your happy life as the Queen.”
“I can’t.” Y/n said looking down.
Victoria stood up, coming closer. “You can, and you will!” Victoria said, lower, reaching for her sister’s hand. “You’ll be the best Queen this fucking- “
“Victoria, watch your mouth!” Y/n interrupted.
“This place would ever have, and no matter which asshole-” Y/n huffed again. “Which man you marry, you’ll rule! Not your husband, not me, not the servants…you! It’s just like a procedure, okay?”
Deep down she was thankful for her sister’s words, even though her mind was foggy with thoughts about her father and the future. And more importantly…who would be the man she married? What if she ended up hating him?
“It’s easy for you to say.” Y/n walked away.
“Do you want to marry for love?” she inquired.
“That would be very idealistic, unrealistic of me to expect a love…” Y/n said trying to convince herself.
Who didn’t want to marry for love and not because of an arrangement? Maybe somebody, but not her. At the same time, she had no choice.
“Yeah, but…” Victoria tried once more.
“It doesn’t matter.” Y/n shook her head, stopping her sister. “I’ll choose somebody suitable today and that will be the end of this nonsense.” she stated, stretching the wrinkles of her dress while walking away.
Y/n didn’t look a way, or she would’ve seen her sister's empathy filing her eyes.
………………………………………
The party was in its highest peak. Y/n didn’t know how many men she greeted, and her face was hurting for all the smiling. The soon-to-be Queen was beyond exhausted and frustrated too.
No one, not a single soul seems suitable or slightly good for the place they’ll have to fill.
In line awaited three more princes. One of the servants was in charge of announcing the names one by one to later approach her presence.
“Prince George Bedford Daniel, Kingdom of Ocaton.” the loyal servant shout for everyone to hear.
The prince walked forward without dropping the eye contact. Those hazelnut piercing eyes playing a battle with hers, made Y/n felt observed and insecure for a minute.
“Princess Y/n, it’s a pleasure to meet your highness.” the tall blonde said while he bowed.
Y/n extended her hand, which George answered kissing her rings. “The pleasure it’s all mine.” the princess didn’t know how many times she said the same sentence.
“It is?” he crocked an eyebrow.
“Excuse me?” she was shocked by his abrupt answer.
“Pardon me, your highness. I can tell you met more eloquent men this night.” he said, smiling with sarcasm.
“Sir!” one of her advisors tried to warn him about his attitude.
“Don’t worry, Philip.” she turned to look at him, and then returned her sight to George. “I can manage him.” she gifted the old man a smile. “Replying to you, Prince…” Y/n inquired him, faking not remembering his name.
“George, my princess.”
Y/n didn’t acknowledge the possessive pronoun. “Right. Well, I’m happy about meeting all of  them…all of you, my guests.“
“Yes, I can perfectly tell.” George kept the amused tone, surprising Y/n once more. “Can I tell you how stunning you look in that dress, princess?” he asked, cheekily gaining a smile from Y/n
After many boring candidates George was a breeze of something different she found quite interesting and seductive. Y/n still have two more candidates waiting for her attention, so he would have to wait.
“Thank you. You look adequate for the situation, Prince.” she teased him.
George found it amusing, replying, “It was what I was aiming for, your highness. ” Y/n tried to hide her chuckle, but the man noticed it.
Containing her laugh, Y/n ended the conversation with a simple, “Hope you enjoy the evening, my prince.” finally dispatching him.
“Until next time, Y/n.” he lined down kissing her hand once more before leaving without looking back at her.
****
The next candidate was pretty much the same as the previous before Matty. Hence why, Y/n didn’t spend more than a minute talking with him, listening to the stupid speech the advisors of the prince –with a flat personality– made him memorize probably.
“Sir Matthew Timothy Healy.” the servant screamed the name of the last men.
Since the first moment Y/n placed her eyes on him, her entire body tingled and burned. She was shocked by this unknown causing a reaction on her. Y/n couldn’t keep her eyes away from him. He was shorter than George but not for much. His eyes were brown, like hers, but shined brighter than any others. His brown locks were perfectly and imperfectly at the same time arranged in the top of her head.
As if he knew what colour her dress would be, Thomas wore a blue suit which defined his body in the most beautiful way. Physically, he was perfect. The definition of the prince her father always talked about for her.
“It is a great pleasure to meet such a beautiful Queen.” he said, looking directly into her eyes.
“Princess. Soon to be Queen.” she replied.
“Pardon me, your highness?”
“It’s my pleasure to meet you.” she continued the conversation.
Y/n wanted to listen to his voice forever, she was very sure she would never get tired of it, of him. His voice was mellow and rhythmic, inviting her to drown into his beautiful melody. He captivated her.
“Are you satisfied with the candidates?” he dared to ask.
“Watch your place, Matthew.” she said sternly but sweet.
“I only want to know if I have a proper competitor or if I’m winning already.” he smirked. From sweet, he turned to a little bit cocky and that was another refreshing moment during the boring night.
“You’ll have to wait for my answer…as the rest of the men.” Y/n answered.
“I’m looking forward to it.” he lined down and kissed her cheek.
Y/n froze on her place even though before she could acknowledge the action or even say something, Matty was gone and out of her sight. Her heart was pounding so loud in her chest that probably everyone could hear it above the music.
The princess had to decide, although between all the people she met that night she had only two options.
……………………………….
Y/n was talking with her advisors and letting them know what she thought about the men they chose for her when Victoria stumbled in her private conference room.
“Princess Victoria, you have to wait outside until we finished!” Philip reprimanded her.
“I want to speak with my sister.” the young princess demanded in her place anxiously. Probably the men in the room didn’t notice her bubbly feelings but Y/n knew her sister as the back of her hand.
“It’s all right. I already finished expressing my opinions and heard yours, when I have a final decision I’ll go out and speak to the waiting room.” all of them moved their heads in agreement, proceeding to leave the room.
Victoria couldn’t contain herself and started talking. “I meet the love of my life!” she screamed, sitting down abruptly in a chair near Y/n’s.
“Oh, really?” Y/n said suspiciously. Victoria tended to fall in love with many men along the way and never truly persuade a relationship.
“Yes, he’s perfect. He’s handsome and dresses very nicely. He’s a gentleman and…I love him.” she sighed romantically.
“That’s quick.” Y/n bitterly said.
Victoria turned looking at her older sister, stunned, “You don’t believe me.”
“Who is this prince?” Y/n decided to ignore her words because she knew it was useless to tell her sister anything involving love and feelings.
“He’s not a prince. He’s a Sir.” Victoria looked at her, waiting for a reaction. Y/n didn’t show a single change on her face, but her body got warm again. Sir Matthew was around the castle, and she wanted to talk to him again.
“And that’s fine for you?” Y/n asked.
“Yes, he’s the love of my life!” Y/n admire the self-confidence she had to say that so easily.
“Do you know his name?”
“Yes!” Victoria smiled even more widely if that was possible.
“And?” Y/n grew anxious.
“His name is Matthew.” with that sentence Y/n’s world fell apart.
She knew they were talking about the same man that captivated her half an hour ago. Right away, Y/n understood why her sister was so sure about it, and she knew very well that her desires couldn’t be fulfilled.
Y/n needed, had to make the better decision not for her heart but for the kingdom and for her family. Matty was a Sir and George was a Prince, she couldn’t pass above that fact. And with the information of her sister wanting Matthew for herself, the decision was already made.
“Tell me more.” Y/n said absently, letting her sister rambling about this new man while her heart broke bit by bit.
…………………………………………
The night of the ball ended with Y/n’s assistance, Philip, announcing that George was the choosing one by the soon-to-be Queen. After that, Y/n gave a short speech thanking all the candidates and promising George her willingness to build a good and prosper alliance.
During her turn to speak, Y/n couldn’t look at Matty. Although, she felt his sight on her. Y/n would’ve to live with the pain weighing in her heart.
Matty understood right away why Y/n chose George, but it hurt him deeply. Sir Matthew felt his heart settle down for Y/n since the moment he saw her standing, listening to boring men without a single grimace of annoyance. He admired her and felt very fond of Y/n.
Healy decided that no matter what he wouldn’t run away like a wounded animal. He would be close to her and help in everything he could, or she asked him.
Matty wasn’t ready to walk away, so he decided to turn all his love and caring to Victoria who was obviously whiling to accept whatever he offered. He proposed to her right away after Y/n’s engagement and Victoria accepted without skipping a beat. Since their father was gone, Matthew had to ask Y/n for Victoria’s hand, and he would never forget the pain on her face when she muttered her approval.
It was so frustrating for both of them because they only had the chance to properly talk only once, and they never shared a proper kiss, but the love was there. Matty and Y/n could feel it, even though they’ll never tell anyone…or the other. They weren’t selfish people. He was sure of it. Both of them knew that it was a better option for everyone.
****
Even though the day of the ceremony something itched him thinking about what he was going to witness, what the whole kingdom would. The ceremony would declare Y/n and Harrison as a married couple, as the new rulers, Queen and King. Matthew’s heart felt heavy.
During the morning of Y/n’s wedding, Matty felt the need to find Y/n and tell her about his feelings, or do something. He didn’t want to live his life letting this opportunity slip through his fingers.
He ran around the castle looking for her. Matty thought numerous people would be surrounding her although to his surprise, two guards await at her door and not a single sound could be heard. Even the clicking of his shoes was louder than anything else.
“I wish to see Princess Y/n.” he told the guard.
“You’ll have to wait for after the ceremony, she didn’t want to see anyone.”
“I need to speak to her.” he urged the guard.
“Sir, please.” the other one alerted him.
In the middle, one of her personal stylists opened the door and Matty took the opportunity running inside. The guards followed him, stumbling till the three men stood in front of the future queen.
Quickly the guards rearranged their posture and the senior one started talking, “We’re deeply sorry to interrupt this way, Princess Y/n. Your brother-in-law…” he continued, making her heart sank. “We warned him you didn’t want to see anyone.“
“It’s fine. Leave us alone.”
“But Princess- “
“Leave us alone! It’s an order!” she half shouted. The guards obeyed and until the door made a noise letting Y/n and Matty know they were in fact alone, they just stared into each other’s eyes.
“What do you need, Sir Matthew?”
“Please, don’t do it!” he said directly.
“What are you talking about?”
“Please, don’t marry George!” he walked closer, but Y/n moved backwards.
“I don’t understand.”
“I know you do.” Thomas grabbed her hands carefully.
She warned him, “Matty- “
“Y/n, please.” he begged. “I know you, as well as me, felt it…” he leaned forward and touched her forehead with his.
“Please don’t do this now.” she closed her eyes, feeling pain and happiness having him so close to her. “You have Victoria, and I have Harrison now…You’ll be happy.”
“Every time I tried to convince myself of that I instantly think that I’ll be miserable for the rest of my life without you.”
“You have me forever.” she stated low. “You have my heart, although you know this is better for everyone.”
“Think of me. Think of you. Us. What we want…not what is best for- “
“I have to- “
“Screw that!” he startled her with his high tone, leaning slight backwards.
“This it’s not easy for me either…” she looked down. Y/n was as hurt as he felt. Matty took her chin, making her look up.
“My angel…” he whispered, making Y/n sob quietly. “Shh, shh, don’t.” he cleaned her tears. “I love you.”
“Matty” she looked up to his eyes. She saw the love for her.
“I love you, I’ll never stop but… I do understand that’s why I’ll leave my selfish heart here when I leave. I’ll marry your sister, watch you marry another man…and no matter what I’ll be close to you because I can’t live without you in my life, my eternal love. We’ll be close…because you’re my moon, and I’m the stars. I’ll be by your side watching you become the best Queen this twisted world would ever have the privilege to have. I’ll be close, supporting you…but I’ll love you from afar…I’ll love you till my last breath, Y/n.” Matty leaned forward, catching her lips on a slow kiss.
The kiss was bittersweet. They shared in that simple but meaningful act all the love and care, as well the pain and frustration they felt.
“Please go.” she said, closing her eyes while crying.
“Of course, my Queen.” Matty reluctantly walked backwards.
“I’m not- “
“You’re…for me.” he smiled at Y/n.
Y/n watched Matty walked around her room going directly to the double door. She had her heart in her hand at the same time she held the tears from falling.
“Matty!” she exclaimed, desperately. He didn’t turn around completely, he gave her a side look.
“Yes?”
“I- “she tried to say it.
After a couple of seconds in silence, Matthew asked. “Yes, my Queen?”
“I lo- Damn it!” she exclaimed, and he chuckled a little, turning around fully.
“I know, my love. I know.” he gifted her a sweet smile and then he left for good.
…………………………………………….
After the ceremony, the newly-wed couple step outside on the balcony, greeting the people that happily cheered for them. Some of them cried, some laughed, even though the entire kingdom was alive again in spirit.
Y/n turned around making her sight land on Matty.
No matter how much the people, her people, would be happy for her and her new husband she would never felt the same as them. The only reassurance was thinking Matthew would be there, by her side, forever. Their love would last until their last breath and beyond.

Nerd Talk! Time to discuss the Daughter of seemingly every major player in the DC Universe!
DUELA DENT
Ah, Duela Dent.
AKA the Joker's daughter.
She is, ironically, not that complicated of a character. The issue is DC as a universe
Because there have been THREE different Duela Dent's, all of which are completly different characters. Because Duela is one of the FEW characters they have been consistant with rebooting each time tey half ass it. But since OTHER characters ARE half assed, it makes Duela stand out in a weird (and bad) way
Tumblr media
Originally debuting in the 50's, she was an annoyance to Robin. A pain in his backside who eventually joined the Titans for a bit, using the name Harleyquinn (yes, before THAT Harley existed. Same name origin. But it is just one word) before she revealed herself properly to Dick Grayson, again he was Robin at this time.
She then revealed her origin, as she was older than he was (at the time, Dick was about 14/15) which was far too old to be the Joker's actual daughter. She revealed that her name was Duela Dent, TwoFace's daughter. She left her mother because he wanted twins (haha, get it? 'Two'?!) and she was doing this to get his attention, but has given up
There is a bit of confusion about this, since it was implied Harcy was TwoFace when she was born but Harvy had only been TwoFace for about two years in universe.
But... yeah. Duela walked off and that was the end of the original Joker's Daughter
...
Then came CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS!!
Following that big.... thing, DC did it's first "Reboot".
I use the quotation marks because, as I have said, DC has enver TRULEY rebooted. They have never TRULEY started from Zero. Because they refuse to let things go.
They reduce the time frame heroes have been around, they change things about the history, but it is still the same universe going on.
But where it gets annoying is where thet half ass some things (oh yeah, Batman is still on Robin number 2 with the first one currently being Nightwing) they DO actually reset and reinvent and reboot SOME things.
Such as... our second Joker's Daughter
Tumblr media
This Joker's Daughter appeared... I wana say late 90's, early 2000's. First off, love her design.
And second... yeah, true reboot. Duela Dent, claiming to be the Joker's daughter. And Two-Faces. And a whole bunch of others. A chaotic ball of energy that was trouble for everyone, joined the Titans again.
Eventually it was revealed... she was from Earth-3!
From those of you who remember my muse list, Earth-3 is DC Universes mirror earth where good is bad and bad is good. It is where my Superwoman muse is from, who is an evil version of Wonder Woman.
So Duela from Earth-3 is the daughter of a man called Three-Face (yes, seriously) who is Harvy's Earth-3 counterpart, and a hero who fights against Owlman and the Crime Syndicate. But the thing is.... Harvy's Earth-3 counterpart is called Evelyn Dent! Yep, Earth-3 Two-Face is a girl. And she had a kid with the Jokester, Earth-3 version of the Joker, before they whrre divorced (Jokester not knowing of his daughter). Evelyn eventually remarried, getting with the Riddler of her world.
She was in a secret relationship with Talon, Owlman's sidekick (no idea which Robin this was supposed to be a parallel of), with the two planning on getting married. But Owlman killed Duela's family... and that (somehow) lead to Talon and Duela being sent to the main universe
Where, because of inheriting her mothers psychosis (multiple personalities) and the trauma, Duela forgot where she was from. And Talon.... fucked off I guess?
And then Duela was killed to kickstart Countdown
And that was it....
Untill the NEW 52!!!!!
*Imperial March plays*
Anyone who is a DC fan should be scared of that name.
Anyway, DC did another half assed Reboot in 2012 and then... three years later we got our third Duela Dent
Tumblr media
Yep, drink it in.
...
Also, yes, she is wearing Joker's face. Literally. This was during DC's super edgy phase where, just before this Duela was introduced we had the Death of the Family event where Joker 'became serious' and cut his face off as he tried to destory the BatFamily for realsies.
There is next to nothing to say about this Duela. She is an overly edgy character who is cruel and aweful with no subtlty or anything deeper. Just an aweful, aweful being. With no connection to Harvy Dent or the Joker.
She found Joker's cut off face, started wearing it as a mask... and then had it sowed to HER face as well
Yes
Seriously
Again, edgy DC
She then "joined" the Suicide Squad and died
And that's the end of the story of Duela Dent.
...
...
...
Yeah, weird wasn't it

Looking At the Stars like we used to
09:12  Seven years ago, February, Shuji and Kashimura
You’re so annoying, Kashimura!
Shuji scribbled on the piece of paper and expertly passed it to Kashimura, two desks diagonally in front. Kashimura glanced at the note and glared at Shuji—that bastard. Kashimura scrawled an angry sentence back.
I am NOT giving you the answer! You know how to solve that question anyway.
Kashimura scrunched up the note and threw it to Shuji. The paper flawlessly landed next to Shuji’s book.
Pft! Kashimura is so mean! I bet that’s why he’s still 150 cm tall!
LAY OF MY SIZE, YOU JACKASS! I’M FIFTEEN, I’M STILL GROWING!
Hobbit species. Replied Shuji simply.
What an ass. Kashimura was about to write something (in all capitals) when he was suddenly called out by the teacher, looking sternly at him.
“Kashimura, what answer did you get to question three?” Asked the teacher, clearly knowing he had been passing notes with Shuji. The blackboard was full of expressions and equations Kashimura hadn’t noticed. Fuck.
“Fourteen to the power of seven.” Grumbled Kashimura, saying the first thing that came to his mind. The class erupted in snickers— attempts of trying not to laugh, but failing. How very annoying.
“Nowhere close.” Said the teacher, unimpressed. “If you are going to pass notes in my class, you need to know how to do your maths first. Now, will Shuji give us the answer?” The teacher peered at Kashimura’s “accomplice”.
“Negative six, sir.” Chirped Shuji happily.
“Correct.” Said the teacher, but disappointed that he couldn’t tell Shuji off.
Kashimura glared as Shuji smiled, all cocky. Why did Shuji even ask what the answer was when he knew it all along?
***
“Hey, mackerel! It’s all your fault! Why did you even decide to pass me a note? It was a nice maths lesson too!” Kashimura continued to rant as Shuji poked his tongue out at him. It was 3:15, right after the final period of the day. Kashimura threw his satchel at Shuji’s head.
“Kashimura, you’re a psycho for liking Maths! And the teacher!” Shuji spoke lazily in his voice as if he didn’t even want to use his energy to talk with Kashimura.
“You son of a bitch.” Muttered Kashimura. Yes, he likes maths, mostly because he can irritate Shuji to entertain himself, but that always somehow gets reversed.
“Now, Kashimura, that’s not a nice thing to say!” Said Shuji, pouting his lips. He discreetly likes it when Kashimura swears, but it will be on his deathbed when he says it.
“Have I ever intended to be nice to you?” Said Kashumura icily, side-eyeing Shuji.
“Why are you talking to me then, chibi?” Teased Shuji, eyes wide with mockery.
“Stop. Calling. Me. A. Fucking. Chibi.” Growled Kashimura.
“I’m fourteen, I’m still growing~!” Mimicked Shuji sarcastically.
Kashimura didn’t speak, instead casting a glare. Whatever he says, Shuji always has a way of retorting.
“You going to that drama audition tomorrow? You know, the one Port Mafia is holding for six plays?” Asked Shuji, In an attempt to steer the conversation away. It was a bit stupid, considering the answer would be no.
Kashimura is a Sheep actor, and the Sheep hates the Port Mafia productions. The Port Mafia Theatre Department has lots of successful productions, eight out of ten of their plays were recorded and released online. and even if you never saw their plays, you would have watched Port Mafia Products on TV. But the PMP was also known for hiring underage actors and involving sketchy deals. That was probably why The Sheep hated them.
The Sheep was a small local company, consisting of little kids, it was almost like a drama workshop. Kashumura is a skilled actor, but Shuji personally thinks he is wasting talent in the Sheep. They usually do common plays in the town theatre, with storylines so dire they were funny. Chuuya was a Sheep actor, but still a tiny tot fifteen-year-old, so he had to go to school. Being in the Sheep made Chuuya quite popular at school, though.
“Yeah.” Said Kashimura, surprised. “How did you know?”

extremely late chapter 14 thoughts:
1. sejanus as much as i love you- maybe not throw yourself inside the house when coryo is having an existential crisis.
2. i love lennox because there should be at least one person who thinks the right way. i hope lennox keeps him on his toes so he thinks three times before doing anything.
3. “Unless you still didn’t see it that way.” ohhhh… the drama.
4. “the back cover of an old book about a man who hunted humans.” is the book “the most dangerous game”?
5. trying to materialise her morals with her prize must’ve been awful. only having money to hold as you’re in a train for that long with that many thoughts, i can’t even imagine.
6. i truly love the family r has and how even that makes her different than lucy gray. the latter was the oldest in her unit, as far as i know, while r isn’t meant to take care of anyone. also you are doing an excellent job at not casting them aside, as side characters usually exist for a quick second in fanfics.
7. Coriolanus Snow Being Honest To A District Woman? It’s More Likely Than You Think.
8. well, ladybugs bring luck.
9. thank you so much for not making her jump to his arms in a few seconds. she went through hell in that arena and at least half of it could be traced back to coryo. the emotional weight of that isn’t something that will lift quickly. she is bound to him by something greater than her feelings.
10. “I am yours for the walk and especially when I walk away.” MA’AM IS THIS FORESHADOWING IN A WAY?
welcome back bestie!! also i hope you had such a great birthday !!
1. yeah he was not thinking LMAO he was just like “on my way to see my friend !” and lucy gray was like “bro cmon read the room”
2. yes i love him :’) he was ready to swing immediately. i really love writing sibling relationships bc with my brother i’ve had so many different perspectives on it through the years haha, but now it literally doesn’t matter i’m like “this person is annoying” and he’s like “i’ll fight them rn” lol. i really think lennox needs to bring that energy bc r is WAY too gentle for her own good, even after all that she went through. he’s a good kid, of course, raised by the same parents, but he’s not nearly as timid and i love him for it.
and ANOTHER thing ab lennox- him and lucy gray both know more than her parents do, and both are clearly protective of her but she is still willing to give coryo a chance. he sees coryo as untrustworthy and a threat to r even though he knows she cares about him, but lucy gray is more optimistic ab it. idk, i feel like they see the situation clearly but in very different ways.
3. he’s like “shit i came all this way to be shut down didn’t i-“ lol
4. yes ma’am 🫡🤭 i mean i know it’s a short story but i have seen individual prints of it too (i had someone on wp be like “but that’s not a book it’s a short story” like girl i know pls-
5. no literally i would lose my damn mind. like you’re staring at an amount of money that can change your life and trying to convince yourself it is somehow worth it (which i know she could never do) would be actual torture i think.
6. i love her family so much, like realistically i can’t imagine r being the person she is without having a loving and supportive family.
also thank you! i love lucy gray and the covey too much to neglect them. especially maude ivory!! we deserved more of her in the movie!!
7. no literally. especially r’s mom. i think he doesn’t consciously know it either but r had talked about her mom quite a bit while she was in the capitol so i think he trusts her more than he would care to if he didn’t feel like he “knew her”. also i think important to mention that his fathers death also affected her so deeply and even physically.
8. that they do 🤭
9. AH you are so welcome. like as much as that would have been cute or whatever i seriously don’t think that was even an option for her it wouldn’t have made even a bit of sense. honestly, she was more likely to bolt back out the door and make a run for it hahahaha
10. IDK WE’LL HAVE TO SEE

For the fandom ask: the three musketeers ❤️
What originally drew me to it
What I like most and least about it
The character/story arc I find the most compelling
A scene/moment that makes me really emotional every single time
What originally drew me to it
You do realize I first read that book 25 years ago?! I have not idea why I picked up that book in particular then, except for the fact that as a kid, I read as many French classics as I could. But what I do remember immediatly enjoying are two things:
The camaraderie. That strong and immediate friendship. That deep sense of loyalty, and that feeling that together we can face anything. Together, we're unstoppable. You need to cross the Channel and go right into the Enemy's den? Let's go, I've got your back. They didn't call it that back then, but it's totally the foundation of the "found family" trope. Tous pour un, un pour tous.
The other thing that contributed a lot to my love for this book was Dumas' writing style. It's joyful, and funny, and very rhythmic. There is quite often a sort of jubilation in his words. It's classic literature, beautiful and with a lot of flare, but still very readable (nothing annoys me more than a writer that makes it unnecessarily complicated. Words must flow.).
What I like most and least about it
What I like the most is the aforementioned friendship and the sense of adventure (see above).
What I like the least is probably the whole Milady story arc. As much as I love those books, I have to admit that, as a product of its time, the story lacks truly compelling female characters. Yes, there are a couple of female characters (including the Queen, who feels actually more important than the King), and of course Milady. And yes, Milady is an interesting and complex character but she's also, despite being originally the actual victim, shown as a very dangerous woman. One we must not feel too much sympathy for (and well, she did some pretty nasty things to our heroes, so I didn't feel too much sympathy for her...). And I've never really like the Femme Fatale archetype, which really is a male fantasy.
So on the one hand, she's not a character that I liked, but on the other hand, boys, what the hell?! You don't take justice into your own hands like that!! That's just... wrong! And Athos, my friend, really?! For a tattoo?! And you're supposed to be the wise one. So, yeah that whole *hand wave* thing at the end of The Three Musketeers, not their finest hour. (I'm actually quite curious how they're gonna solve that in the movie...)
The character/story arc I find the most compelling
My favorite character is d'Artagnan. He's the youngest one (18 already seemed super old to 12-13 years old me), and when we meet him, he's full of innocence and hope, something I could relate to. I love that he is so full of energy and ideas. Daring and adventurous. Very positive, though he becomes more philosophical and sarcastical as he grows older (I'm including Twenty Years Later and The Vicomte of Bragelonne). But always, all his life, he remains attached to his original three friends. He is the definition of loyalty.
And a story arc that I love is actually something that happens in Twenty Years Later. It's more of a scene than the whole arc, but it's one of my favorite. D'Artagnan and Porthos are in England for like, capturing Charles I, who was on the run or something. On the road at night, they encounter some enemies and start fighting, though it's too dark to see who they are. And d'Artagnan gets annoyed cause his opponent is parying all his attacks and he let go an exasperated "Mordious!" and his opponent freezes and they recognize each other - the enemies were Athos and Aramis, who were helping the King - and they just fall into each other's arms. Like, the circumstances that brought us here don't matter, we'll figure things out, but man it's so good to see you. Let's go clean out an inn, and we'll talk.
(I really wish they'd adapt Twenty Years Later for once)
A scene/moment that makes me really emotional every single time
Of all the very emotional scenes from The Vicomte of Bragelonne is probably Porthos' death. I won't give too many details as to not spoil the how and when but damn, I actually remember a lump in my throat as I was reading that chapter. It really felt like I had lost something. Or someone. The book goes all the way to the end of their lives, so, like, they all die, but Porthos', for some reason, is the one that hit the hardest.
Wow that got long! Thank you so much for the ask, my friend :)

12, 15 and 25 for Vanica, Dante and Zenon :D
HELLL YEAHHHHH THE BITCHES LETS GOOO. HI CY :DDD
12. What's a Headcanon you have for this character?
Dante: He can't cook for SHIT. like as much as I love him (which is more then I will ever openly admit) bro can't make a sandwich or boil and egg so Vanica runs him out the kitchen with a wooden spoon. Also he can't drink. Homie is a lightweight and he hates that so much
Zenon: He really likes dancing! Though no one (except Allen) knows about it. Not even Vani and Dante. Plus he has a REALLY big sweet tooth, if their is a box of sweets in his field of vision he will leave nothing for the rest the siblings (this annoys Dante beyond belief )
Vanica: She is (somehow) a really great cook! She kicked Lucius out of cooking duty a month after she learned the basics. Dante has made the "Haha, your a woman and you cook" joke only once in his whole life because Vanica put rat poison in his food and uhhh it wasn't a nice experience. And she can sing too! Most of the time she acts like she can't just to annoy ppl
15. What's your favorite ship with this character? ( Doesn't matter if it's canon or not)
Dante: OHHHHHH BOYYYY UHHH. Sweet rat man, I love you (regrettably) but your ass is so fucking bitchless. The closest thing he has to a relationship is the fact that he is fuckbuddys with Lucifero, I won't count Yami x Dante as a ship bc it's literally just rat man being a weird ass mother fucker and getting his ass beat which is funny as shit. However I will say he is pansexual and he will get into a relationship with literally anything and anyone.
Zenon: There is only one correct answer. Allen x Zenon for LIFE. Because come on BC fandom that man is not attached to Wemon in any way, only thing he feels for them is fear bc of Vanica and his Mom. But moving on they are soulmate-coded and I will die on that, Golden retriever bf and Black cat bf
Vanica: Listen, all of Vanica ships are fucking soulmate coded ok??? (I'm dilulu shut UP) and I love them with my heart (except Vanica x Acier, not soulmate-coded but annoying cat x Tired mother of 4). I have three I would die for bc I am insane. 1) Vanica x Megicula and Vanica x Lolopechka really they give off SUCH old married couple energy I wanna DIE. 2) Vanica x Lolo x Gajah, it's the "We can fix her" mentality AND THEY SECSIDED THE MOTHER FUCKERS. They are very funny and funky but not everyone's cup of tea but it's ok.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Dante: My first impression was "OHHHH, he looks cool! (I also like the beard shot me) wonder what he can do" and now it's "Cring ass motherfucker pls stop being weird for the love of god (affectionately, I'm afraid), can you not have beef with an 18 year old?". Can you tell that I like him but wanna throw him of a clif?
Zenon: First impression "Emo boy, with a sad backstory incoming" I didn't care about bonehead at the start, I thought he had BANING magic but beyond that meh. And now "UHHH BABY BOY LIL WET CAT MAN BONE ASS IDIOT. can someone get this mans husband pls?" now I put him in my pocket and take him as far for house Zogratis as I can
Vanica: First impression "WEEEEEEE WEMON, IF HOT WHY EVIL???" I was uhh it was love at first sight honestly, same with Lolopechka so now I call them BOTH baby girls. Now "Oh baby- I would feel bad for what I put you through BUT I DONT SUFFER, then I wack her with the angst stick in almost all my Aus" really can you get more baby girl then Vanica? ( yes you can but SHUT up) she is both insane and has her mental health hanging on a thread, she really needs some tits to lean on and a tea to drink.
Thank you for the asks Cr!!
Asks for this are always open for any fandom I'm in!!

IT/TUA Crossover
Okay I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for a while and I want to share my thoughts. I also kinda want to write this into a oneshot but we will see. Also this is only a crossover in the sense that the Losers are in the place of the TUA fam. So like what would happen if the Losers were the ones born with the marigold and adopted by Reginal Hargreeves. I mean....both TUA and IT have seven main characters so how could I not try to merge the two?
Anyways moving on to who get's what marigold (powers) and I have some maybe controversial opinions
I'm not basing this on the TUA character's personalities, just their powers btw
AAAA also for those not familiar with TUA, the numbers don't really matter, like just because someone is "Number 1" doesn't necessarily make them the leader
Number 1 with the power of strength should be Mike and my reasoning for this is because Mike has a strong heart and he would love his adopted siblings (the Losers) and would use his strength to protect them- also Mike staying at the academy the longest, hoping his family would come back
Number 2 who's power is uhhhh how do you word that? Super Aim? Basically he never misses AND he can stop something in motion in it's tracks, like bullets fired from a gun- Anywho I think this should be Ben. I feel bad bc this is my least favorite power (but I LOVE Deigo) but I like the idea of Ben being a knife guy, it's outta pocket and no one would expect it
Number 3- Mind control- Miss little "I heard a rumor" is definitely Bev. I don't have to say much about this, but Bev using her rumor power to get ahead and be one of the most successful people in Hollywood- not that she needs much help. But also like how Luther and Allison have that weird relationship, her and Ben would have that too
Number 4, the power to commune with the dead and *Spoilers for TUA season 3* the power to come back to life after dying. This is where I get a little controversial but hear me out...I feel like this should be Bill. Unlike his TUA counterpart Klaus, Bill would channel his fear of ghosts into writing and he becomes a bestselling authors selling stories that the ghosts tell him. In an interview he gets asked how he comes up with these ideas and he just shrugs "They just come to me" and meanwhile the ghost who told him the story is yelling at him. I do think that LIKE Klaus he would distance himself from his family
Number 5 who can teleport and time travel is obviously Stan. Stan is literally an 85 year old man in a 13 year olds body. Stan is already a little unhinged but getting lost in time, seeing THREE apocalypses and constantly trying to save his hairbrained family. Five in TUA IS Stan. An old soul who loves his family but also wants to murder them because they somehow keep causing the world to end. Also Stan would be so mad at himself that he hasn't mastered time travel since teleporting came so naturally to him
Number 6, the ability to summon tentacles out of his chest is Richie. Which also means Richie is dead. RIP. He's dead for everyone else but Bill can NOT get rid of him. Remember Bill talks to the dead? Richie would be following him around and aggravating Bill every chance he gets. Bill acts annoyed but he is happy he gets to talk to his technically dead brother while the rest of his adopted siblings had to mourn him. Just imagine all of the BICHIE friendship moments I could write if I wrote this ship. Richie would make so many dead jokes
Number 7, the power to turn sound waves into energy is Eddie. Poor Eddie who was constantly told he didn't have any powers bc Reggie was terrified of them. Jokes on Reggie. Eddie ended the world. Twice. And he's the strongest one of the bunch. I feel like that would be a strong character moment for him
I want write parts of this AU, I love it. Who knows if I'll ever find the time. Also yes ik there's spelling/grammar errors. I am tired

BEN ANS JEFF RAMBLE BUCKLE UP LETS GO!!!!!
QUICK WARNINGS, THE FOLLOWING ARE MENTIONED: Sex, rape, drugs, abuse, self harm, suicide, anything bad to be honest. Read at your own risk, because I really get into some of these topics.
Its about time I talk more about my Ben and Jeff, specifically how their relationship is. In a post I made months ago, I stated that they were a point where it was incredibly toxic for both of them. I'm going to put a screenshot because I'm gonna be honest I don't have to energy to explain again😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'd like to talk about that before disaster fell, during the hurricane of hurt, and afterwards. I'm going to flesh out most of their lore. Not EVERYTHING, but all that's pretty important
So, to start off with, Ben is Japanese American, his mother was Japanese American. He's not 100% Japanese, he doesn't look like it, he just knows and speaks Japanese fluently. Jeff is Mexican. Ben was born and raised in Florida.
Jeff was born in Maine but his family moved to Florida almost a year prior to the burning, during summer break. He and Ben met before EVERYTHING ever happened to any of them, when they were 12 and 11. Despite not knowing each other for a long time before things went to hell and they were separated, they clicked IMMEDIATELY, and were practically inseparable. They were together pretty much every day.
Ben was also introduced to Liu; They were all extremely close, a Trio, just the three of them, fighting against the world, because none of them had it easy. Jeff had to deal with physical, verbal, and mental abuse, and Liu and Ben had to deal with Physical, verbal, mental, AND sexual abuse. They all had mental issues and disorders sprouting from their trauma, Jeff taking the worst of it.
After everything, they were all separated; Jeff on the run, Liu in the hospital, and Bens soul trapped in his Majoras Mask game. Ben died before the burning even happened so he was yet to know what happened to his best friends.
Eventually they all reunite.
Jeff and Ben reunite first.
It wasn't like the movies though, happy and crying and hugging. No. Jeff refused to believe Ben was alive and STILL wanted to be around him after what he did to Liu, after what he ruined. So he pushed Ben away, became an ass to him, picked fights.
Ben eventually got fed up and would annoy him on purpose so Jeff would pick a fight rather than try to bring the Jeff he knew back. Deep down though it hurt like hell. Losing the first friend he ever had? That's not easy, especially at young ages like they were at when they reunited(14 an 13)
Ben wanted more than anything for his best friend back, both of them. He would admit it was hard to look at Jeff after he found out what he did to Liu. But at that point Jeff was all he had. Eventually he just started to avoid Jeff all together.
Surprise surprise, Jeff found himself missing Ben's sarcastic and irritating remarks. He'd begin to seek him out himself, try to pick arguments. Ben was reluctant but didn't shove him away like he did to him.
Gradually, over time, they found themselves laughing at each others bad jokes of an attempt to insult the other. They found themselves having decent conversations. It wants long before their old friendship sparked up again.
Once it did, they were even more inseparable than they used to be. You'd never see one without the other, never. If you did, one would always seem miserable without their other half around. They began to help each other through their traumas, their issues, began to open up to each other.
Then Liu came back. Jeff was in shambles. He didn't know if he were to feel angry, glad, guilty, he had too many emotions. He saw all the scars on Liu's face, the scarf he gave Liu when he turned 14 around his neck, the hopeful expression that should've been hate like Jane. He saw it all and ran.
Ben was the one to talk to Liu, understand the situation, and go retrieve Jeff, soothing him into letting his older brother hug him for the first time in years. Liu didn't show up until he himself was 19 and Jeff was 17 and Ben was 16.
It was awkward for the three of them for awhile. The trio was back, but freshly scarred from past terrors. It wasn't the same for a long time. Eventually the awkwardness faded away. Once it did, the trio was back - They began to help each other heal once more, they were all close again. Everything was perfect.
But there were untold secrets to be discovered.
Ben was the one who fell first, and he fell hard. He'd be super clingy and never wanting to part from Jeff's side. Jeff fell too not long later once they started to flirt and deny being gay. He was oblivious to his own feelings and Bens hints though.
Liu caught on quick before either of them and was the one to nudge them in the direction of discovering their feelings for each other.
It started as a accidental hookup while Ben was higher than the stars and Jeff was drunk off his ass. Words were exchanged that night that made them look at each other in the morning and immediately begin wondering what they were.
Flirting got more intense, they both got jealous easily, and this was the point where you'd literally NEVER see them apart. Eventually, Ben was the one to bring it up during another night where things were getting a little heated again. That's when they made it official. They laughed about how stupid they had been.
For about a year after getting together, things were amazing; Like a dream come true. But then Jeff started drugs, obtained an alcohol addiction. He started going out late at night, refusing to tell anyone where or how he'd even get the deadly substances. He fell into a rabbit hole, the one I talked about in the previous images above.
He'd force Ben to do things for him, all while he slunk around and began cheating with random whores he'd find on the streets late at night. Ben sat back and quietly accepted all of this, too afraid to lose Jeff all over again.
It all got so bad though to wear Jeff would physically attack and try to kill Ben sometimes, leaving him with countless scars, including a healed up scar cut across his cheeks that some of you may have noticed in a few of my drawings; Jeff's signature mark on him.
Ben would ignore everyone who told him to leave Jeff though. Liu turned on his own brother he loved dearly to try and help Ben, by trying to help him give Jeff the help he very much needed. Jeff was a stubborn alcoholic and wouldn't listen to reason at all though.
Things got even worse when Ben started drugs and began preforming in self harm and suicide attempts as a way to try and get away from everything.
Ben eventually grew rebellious, and would stand up for himself, fight back. This is where the constant loop of breaking up and getting back together started. It continued like this until Ben finally cut ties completely. He couldn't take it anymore.
He told Jeff it was over one last time and avoided him to the best of his ability. This is when Jeff knew he fucked up. He finally got his senses back, and put in about a year working on himself. He quit drugs, he stopped drinking as much, he didn't stop until he was sure he was better.
That's where things end and get better, right? No. During Jeff's redemption arc, Ben is having his whole arc where he falls into his own hole, getting more hooked on drugs than Jeff did and becoming an absolute bitch.
Liu stepped in once more at this point. He forced them to go see EJ and see what medications they needed to be on, what they needed to do and stop doing. Needless to say it was a long list of do's and donts and quite the amount of prescriptions.
He couldn't bear to see his best friend and his brother go down like this, especially as a former drug addict himself. He knew how terrible it was.
He helped drag them out of their holes.
Ben and Jeff eventually grew past their bitterness and guilt. Jeff had left Ben more traumatized and fucked up than when he lived with his father.
People ask him all the time why he's still with Jeff, why he put up with all that abuse. He tells them all the sams thing:
Jeff is not the bad guy.
He has issues, and yes, it doesn't excuse a hell lot of the shit he did, but he wasn't receiving proper treatment, proper held and medications and therapy.
He was left alone to struggle all by himself.
He's a sad man who has done awful things that for a long time he'll never be able to forgive himself for. He has fucked up in so many ways, ruined so many lives, for his own gain, and at the end of the day you might catch him in his room staring at his knife, on the verge of a break down as he wonders where everything went wrong, why he had to become the villain in the story where he was supposed to be the hero, protecting his older brother who was too timid to take up for himself.
It's rare moments where one might see him crying; Only very few people get the honor of witnessing him in a vulnerable state like that. He just needs some help he's needed from the very start, a long hug, along with comfort and reassurance that things won't be as bad as they were then. That they'll get better, that he himself will get better. That he'll become a person people actually like again, not someone everyone avoids out of fear or resentment.
He just needed someone to be there with him, to help him. Not even his own brother could stand to look him in the eyes during those times without being reminded of their parents.
So Ben stayed when no one else wouldn't. When everyone else lost hope that Jeff could make a come back. He was the only one Jeff had during those times.
Ben was the only one who was trying to help him from the very beginning to the very end. He still helps him, he's never given up on him. He knew him before the fire, unlike most of the mansion residents. He knew who Jeff really was. He knew he needed help.
So help he gave him, even with the horrors it forced him to receive.
And it worked in the long run. They both got better. They both stopped the terrible things, they learned to move on.
They're married in my au at this current point of time.
They've been through hell and back, together.
No one knows them like they know the other; Their like parts of a puzzle that'll never fit with anyone else, only each other.
Okay so yeah thats my take on them theres a lot more and there's probably so many confusing parts, so feel free to ask questions, I'll be glad to answer!
Here's some art I did to post along with this btw just two guys being cute and wholesome idk

crutchie is not like.. ✨uWu soft baby cinnamon roll✨. its fbhjdksabkh frustrating like the whole "let crutchie say fuck" thing annoyed him. just bc he has a disability doesnt mean hes infantilized. he is actually a little fucking menace and he will hit you. he is opinionated and not a innocent little child.
i (race) like biting. thats it. i bite.
jack is like chronically adhd but he doesnt think he is. hell hyperfixate and infodump and get so distracted on one thing (90% of the time its his current artwork) that the outside world just stops existing. yet he thinks this is just normal people things to do while i just 🫠
hes also a manwhore. he gets around a lot (albeit as a coping mechanism for his ✨everything trauma✨). like before the strike he slept around, with random people hed pick up on the street, theatregoers hed see during meddas shows and talked to afterwards ("dont come a knockin" style), meddas backstage crew, people hed sell the evening paper to, anyone. gender was irrelevant to him, he just needed an outlet for all his energy. it was usually a no stings attached scenario, but not like, "wham bam thank you maam" sorta thing, he treated them with respeect
alberts safe food is lamb. thats it.
spot is a chihuahua. down to the soul. (he will deny this till the day he dies)
everyone is some form of neurodivergent. all funky in the brain /lh
also some things that are not true (soz guys)
-um. ralbert. it just doesnt make sense for either of us? hes my best friend and i do love him but not like that. also i dont think wed be able to survive as a couple. we collectively share about three (3) brain cells and i think we would destroy a house together. like blow it up (storytime for later about that if yall wanna hear)
-neither is javey (sorry everyone). jack an davey love each other. yes. but not in a romantic way. theyll trust each other with things theyd never tell anyone else, but they are strictly platonic. they said they could never imagine being together, sorry to all the avid javey supporters out there.
-kathy's a lesbian. false 💖
shes bi with a preference for women. she did THINK she was a lesbian until she had this big dumb guy come up to her on the street and offer to bring her a paper personally.
-newsies dont have an age limit. we dont "age out" of selling. it isnt "just a kids job". anyone could sell papers. the whole point of being a newsie is that anyone could do the job, it didnt matter who you were or where you were from, you just had to have enough money to buy the paper from the distributor. we had a like 40 year old woman who used to come buy her papers after we did. so the theories of "what happens when jack ages out??" arent nessicarily accurate, if anything he would leave by choice.

"Sonic 06: gameplay is shit, story is shit."
Okay, I somewhat disagree but don't see the need to expend energy toward-
*comparison between 06 and Forces is drawn*
My brain: heyguesswhatyou'rehyperfocusednow
I was going to do things today. . . but here we are.
Okay, up top and up front: 06 and Forces are both flawed, yes.
But they are flawed in fundamentally different ways, and Forces flaws are, quite frankly, far more glaring and demeritorious for a franchise like Sonic than 06. Anyone who, years from now, goes on to claim that "Uh, actually, Forces was peak." the way that some people are saying about 06 now will be just as, if not more, wrong. And I'll attribute such claims to declining media literacy.
BEFORE the youngsters in the fandom start throwing things at me, note that I said just as wrong. 06 wasn't ever as good as some of the mainline games prior or even spinoff titles after.
The difference is, most of 06's issues stem from the fact that it reads as pitiably unfinished.
The problems with Forces begin and end with the fact that it reads like self-insert fan fiction that had either zero beta readers or too many beta readers that were all given editing privileges. There's definitely a place in the world for that sort of creativity, but said place is not within a licensed game that people have to pay for; one that drastically affects the canon of the franchise and how the fans old and new perceive it and the characters within.
All right? Okay, let's get into details.
Let's address gameplay first, since I have less to say about that.
On this count, if nothing else, Forces barely edges out by being functional; granted, that's the end of it. I wouldn't go back to play it again, and the 'highlights' I can recall mostly felt like reskins of stages in the style of Colors but shortened, with boss fights reminiscent of daytime Unleashed. I imagine the primary draw for people is watching their customized 'sona jump and fly around whilst listening to dialogue from the main cast.
And this isn't really a substantive point, but the fact that receiving stuff like outfits like loot crates at the end of virtually every stage feels kind of manipulative and annoys me. If there's unlockable features, put some actual challenge between the player and the prize, like how you perform within the stage. Otherwise it's just another example of "shiny, novelty, tickle brain often, get player to play longer."
Setting that brief tangent aside since that's just a trend in games in general and not Sonic specific, moving on to 06's gameplay. And uh, yeah. The USP was, like the adventure games, supposed to be that you got three interconnected stories and three main characters each with unique play styles.
I suppose 06 showed us before anything else that Shadow really isn't as fast as Sonic, and as an idea, Silver's psychokinesis was cool. If the tracking in the Speed Up stages and the hit boxes in a handful of other areas had been ironed out, there's foundation for a fairly solid experience. Project 06 is basically proof that the base of the game had potential that wasn't realized, whether due to time constraints or other reasons.
As far as environs, the concept for Kingdom Valley showed off the most soul, I'd say, with Silver's future coming in close second. Character design for the Iblis fragments (not sure if that's the official name but I'm doing stream-of-consciousness here) and Mephiles I actually like a lot. I don't think there's anything objectively wrong with them and however you rate them will come down to preference.
Also, the model for Sonic is like. . . ridiculously good. He just looks like an older teenager; it fits with the widely accepted idea that he was 15 as of Adventure 2. Polish it a bit and that's just how he appears in my head when I write about him.
That said, there are only about six different environs that serve as stages, discounting the hub areas, and compared to Heroes' twelve stages, it just adds to that incomplete/rushed feeling.
That's about all I can say on the gameplay aspect. Functional yet non-stimulating technically wins out over some creativity yet patchy. They are games, after all.
Now then, the "story is shit" business.
Look, if you're going to criticize Sonic's story—which, yeah, his should be subjected to more scrutiny, being the titular character—then much of what you can say against it also applies to the first Adventure. Eggman wants to collect a thing (emeralds/Princess), Sonic wants him to not collect the thing (emeralds/Princess) because he's obviously planning to do evil stuff with the thing, Sonic manages to get the thing only for Eggman to snatch it out of his hands.
Multiple times.
Meaning Sonic spends most of the games on fetch quests that Eggman keeps one-upping him on until the penultimate fight.
And those are the beats. Of both stories. (For Sonic.)
And then at the end of both games, a monster you've fought in various forms (Chaos/Iblis) reappears to threaten the world on a scale that requires the seven chaos emeralds to combat.
Super Sonic. Rad soundtrack. Credits.
Granted, much like how Gamma's story was the strongest in Adventure, the quality of the three main story lines in 06 also vary in strength, with Shadow's taking first place.
My point is, in a franchise that is about characters, you don't grade every aspect of the story on the same scale. You weigh the grade of various aspects differently; and the point that gets graded most heavily is:
Character moments; which can encapsulate literal moments, arcs, development etc.
And for all its flaws, 06 has character moments, almost immediately, even. Sonic's first spoken line is "My, that's a pretty snazzy performance there!"
Which, after the tension of Eggman interrupting the festival and threatening Elise, cuts through the moment right away and, paired with the next several seconds, shows who Sonic is. He sees Eggman's robots aiming and waits until the last second to jump before going to town bashing up bots. Even as he carts Elise off amidst homing missiles and explosions, he's grinning the whole time.
Sonic does what he does because it's fun.
And his third spoken line, answering Elise's question of why he's helping, is: "No special reason."
Again, that's Sonic. Doesn't matter who it is, he helps people because he Does what's Cool. And as well as being fun, fighting off Eggman and his bots is Cool.
06, as Silver's introduction to the series, also does a decent job establishing his character of Temporal Bulldozer. He can be aimed, but his solution to problems first and foremost is usually smashing, and it's really tricky to change his mind once he's focused. He suffers from myopia arguably as bad or worse than Metal Sonic. Amy's the only one who momentarily gets him to pause and wonder if really does want to kill Sonic.
Which is a character moment for her. As in Adventure 2, Amy will happily break laws and go against who and whatever to help her friends; and as she did with Shadow, she's rather skilled at getting very hurt people to listen.
She's not unlike Silver in her willingness to do whatever it takes, really; since Temporal Bulldozer can and does traverse time on several occasions to make things right. And up until the last moment, it never occurs to him that anyone but he should bear the burden of saving the world. Blaze has to physically shove him aside so she can absorb Iblis herself.
Silver sees himself as a Hero with a responsibility toward the future just as much Sonic sees himself as just Some Guy.
Finally, Shadow. And man, there's a reason a lot of people say 06 was the last time a game featured Shadow written correctly.
It's me. I'm one of a lot of people.
Team Dark in general gets a fair bit of spotlight in 06. Rouge, an anti-heroine with perhaps the greatest self-interest after Eggman, promises Shadow that she'd stand with him even if the very world turned against him. Omega, who loathes taking orders and prioritizes his own freedom nearly as much as Sonic, takes on Rouge's assignment for him without question or complaint to wait out 200 years to help rescue Shadow.
And Shadow, in an in-game line during his first fight with Mephiles, reaffirms all the progress he made in his titular game that was wholly about discovering his identity: "Don't bother trying to deceive me. I know who I am!"
And, in contrast to the Shadow the franchise first introduced us to, the Shadow of Adventure 2 who was thoroughly convinced that his only remaining worth was his ability to keep his promise to Maria, the Shadow who was so resigned that he chose to plummet through the planet's atmosphere to his presumed death. . .
That Shadow is faced squarely with his fate of persecution, asked why he would bother fighting to protect. That Shadow declares that it the world turns on him, "I will fight as I always have."
He's grown such that he's now willing to fight against fate.
And that's pretty fucking cool.
On the other side, applying the same grading method to Forces, we find what I call (as of just now) character fauxments.
Remember how I talked about 06's introduction for Sonic? How he cuts through tensions, finds joy and fun in fighting bullies and bad guys?
The thing about that, which Forces doesn't seem to understand, is that if you lean too hard on the wisecracks and nonchalance, you end up with a character who reads as either obnoxious or totally tone-deaf. Sonic knows when to take things seriously, yet in Forces he's purportedly been tortured as well as locked up for half a year, Infinite's destroyed countless homes and killed who knows how many people, and yet when Sonic interrupts his fight with Silver. . .
I mean, if Sonic was written correct, you'd cut out a bunch of faff and change his line delivery. Show that he's frustrated by his time confined and absolutely raring to throw hands and get to business; because Sonic does understand when things have gotten real, and while rare, he does get angry. Something like:
"Since you like talking so much, mind sharing the source of your power? I can ask the easy way or the hard way. I've been cooped up a long time, so I'm hoping you pick the hard way."
It doesn't need to be the most original lines in the world, but Sonic's banter in the middle of a war shouldn't be long-winded, no matter how pretentious his opponent is (and damn, is Infinite pretentious. Like to the point that it's the most memorable part of the game.) If there's banter, it should be punchy and succinct; quick, like he is.
Instead, Forces Sonic's attitude is just kind of. . . incongruous with the stakes the game claims to have established. But then, since we don't get a truly convincing scene showing the rest of the cast being sad that he reportedly died, that's not too surprising.
Speaking of setting up stakes, here's an idea. Rather than cutting from Sonic laying battered in the middle of the city for a lazy six-month time skip established by text on the screen, make it clear that "Oh shit, things are different" via gameplay.
After Sonic falls, immediately transition into a level. Where you run from right to left to escape Eggman's fleet. Turns everything on its head, you can witness and navigate the destruction as it's happening and if you string together enough environs, you can even have the city burning in the distance or the skyline as you near the end of the stage and escape to relative safety.
Anyway.
And of course, the notorious character fauxment: Tails cowering in front of an offline Omega.
There's nothing I can say about this fauxment that hasn't been said already. It's not the first time in the series that Tails was portrayed as having regressed to a scared child, but it is the most egregious.
And. . . actually, that's about it, at least off the top of my head. Which might speak to how short the game is and how little screen time and action the main cast get aside from Sonic and the player character.
But it's enough to determine that Forces' story, or what stands in for it, is weaker than what 06 offered.
Again, I'm not here to rally a feral defense of 06 as a masterpiece, but its flaws are not on the level of Forces. The reason they're lumped together is the amount of disdain both games got on their release; though in the case of 06, the 2000's were just a weird time when hating things was somehow cooler than liking them, and since 06 wasn't up to par with Adventure 2 or Heroes, people picked an aspect of the game-most often how much the almost final fantasy style model for Elise didn't match up with the Mobian models (and yes, the final cutscene, but there's nothing new I can say about that either, and talking about it here is just an open invitation for someone to blow it out of proportion again) and dogpiled the hate on the game.
Sonic 06 feels unfinished owing to a lot of little and larger details. Knuckles' portrayal and having little to do in the story, poor optimization leading to nearly twenty second loading times, BLAZE BEING A GLOWING NEON MISSED OPPORTUNITY! (SEGA, I know I was literally twelve when the game was released, but my Phoenix headcanon works so well and makes her appearance in both Rush and 06 work! A retroactive fix would be so easy and we could get more adventures in her dimension!)
Even acknowledging all that, though, there were still attempts at creativity that just, for one reason or another, didn't pan out. There's significant potential here.
Forces is just. . . a mess. In every sense. And I understand how a mess can be attractive to a fandom, because a mess means you can take whatever you want from it and organize things however you choose.
But a mess that's sold as a finished game is not the same as a rushed title with visible untapped potential.

Realization
Tumblr media
It all started when Jeong Jeong decided to desert from the Fire Nation navy. He spent some time thinking and rethinking his past actions, but he came to the conclusion that even if he was caught and killed, he would have died a free man. Then he hid for a while in Oma Shu. There he had the honor of meeting King Bumi. Jeong Jeong will never admit it, but the crazy king totally scared him. That's why, when he offered him the chance to join the White Lotus, he accepted. What could he do?! that man had a fluffy beast as a pet!
When Bumi announced that one of his allies was coming to visit, the firebender was curious. His curiosity grew when he learned that the visitor was an extremely talented waterbender. When he arrived Jeong Jeong exploded with questions. But he was quickly angered when the visitor, Master Pakku of the Northern Water Tribe, told the earth king to control his servants. Then a certain firebender missed a shot right next to the new arrival's right ear. Let's say that Bumi was more than amused when Pakku immobilized the firebender thinking he was a spy and Jeong Jeong missed another shot right at the waterbender's feet. Which, of course, led to an even bigger fight. After Bumi got bored, he stopped the fight and forced the two to accompany him to dinner. There, Pakku complained about a not-so-beautiful bruise that he had received from the not-so-gentle encounter between Jeong Jeong's leg and his chest. Jeong Jeong rolled his eyes and retorted sharply:
Jeong Jeong: Did I hit you on the head too? Did you forget that you are a waterbending master?
Pakku: Don't flatter yourself, you couldn't have hit me that hard. What does my element have to do with you fighting like a kid who ate too much sugar?
Jeong Jeong: I did not know that you are also a master of the art of modesty.
Pakku: I didn't know either that the Fire Nation navy is so desperate that it can't afford to have standards.
Jeong Jeong: oh come on! If you squinted at the healing classes to look in the mirror, just admit it.
Pakku:healing is only for women. You would have known this if you had opened even one scroll during your life.
Jeong Jeong: how can you say that?! If I had been a waterbender, healing would have been the first thing I would have learned!
Pakku: why doesn't it surprise me?! Oh yes! I have seen women who fight better than you!
Jeong Jeong: I have seen fire nobles more bearable than you!
Bumi: done! you are starting to annoy me! You argue like 6-year-old children! You'd better start understanding each other because I won't hesitate to lock you both up in the labyrinth for the rest of your lives if you continue to be annoying.
The other two masters silently agreed that their lives were more important than arguing with an idiot. Over time, they began to understand each other better. Especially after the return of the avatar. Jeong Jeong even warned Pakku about the arrival of the three children at the North Pole. Also, he advised him to train Katara. Now Pakku didn't train Katara because she was Kanna's granddaughter, but because when he saw the girl's potential he realized that Jeong Jeong was right. And maybe the girl reminded him a little of that hopeful idiot.
Pakku will never admit  but in the camp, before the comet's arrival, he asked Katara for some healing lessons. The old man had a lot of work but managed to learn the key points before the arrival of Sozin's comet. He thanked all the spirits, especially Yue, for thinking to do this sooner rather than later when Jeong Jeong was injured. Even though the idiot was on the verge of death, he still found the strength to mock Pakku because he finally accepted his feminine energy. There, on the battlefield, Pakku finally realized that there are more important things than pride and the preservation of tradition.
I hope you liked it @hermitduck !  The next one will come soon!
Although I do not own the characters from avatar the last airbender, this work belongs to me! I sincerely hope you liked it. please rate it and leave a comment! follow me to see my next posts! Don’t forget that the request are open💖💖💨

Summary: Kya remembers that her father loved to dance.
Kya watched the vivid leaves dance in a circle on a gust of gentle wind. They were the colors of fall, the colors of the Air Nomads. Red spun in a wide arc, yellow twisting as if along the length of a temple's spire, and orange was caught in a never-ending spiral that spoke of pattering feet and carefree steps.
She was reminded of how her father loved to dance. He taught them all the steps of nearly two hundred years ago when there was no such thing as the lingering memory of a century-old war. He had friends in all four nations back then besides his own, he said. Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, and even from the Fire Nation.
Kya recalled the first time she attempted the Camelephant Strut, a dynamic, precise dance move that required a certain confidence she did not quite have at the age of five. But in time she learned. She was not as good as her older brother, Bumi, who was a natural at all things nimbly artistic. At least, she was much better than her ironically stiff younger brother, Tenzin, who happened to be their family's only other airbender.
"C'mon Tenzin," their father would say in that playful way of his, "you can bend air, remember? You have to be like a leaf in the wind when you dance too."
Tenzin it seemed, had the talent and the spirit of an Air Nomad, but not the wonder of one. Bumi had gotten all of that instead. Kya supposed it was only fair, as he was the only one out of the three siblings that could not bend an element.
Kya saw dancing like the water she moved through her fingers. It flowed and it rained, ebbing through the current of someone's body until it burst forth like a waterfall of unadulterated energy.
Bumi saw it as fun. "Because it is, obviously," he had said when they were children. "What else can it be?"
He made a game out of it every time their father walked in unannounced.
"I challenge you to a battle!" Bumi had shouted. "A battle that will revolutionize the dance world!"
Their father laughed. "So, a revolution?" he had asked the first time. He played along easily.
"Yes!" Bumi had agreed. "A dance dance revolution!"
Kya wanted to smile as she remembered those times. She felt the quirk of it at the corner of her dry lips as the autumn air sapped the moisture away from her skin. Still, the smile did not come.
She longed for the dock at the base of their family's island where she could waterbend to her heart's content. She wished for the night to settle more permanently on the back of Republic City's horizon, but instead, dawn's pink line broke through the surface and interrupted what she wanted.
Everything should be dark, she thought. She dreaded the new day coming...the day when she would have to bury her father.
There was nothing left in her to give.
She had thought that she was taking it rather well. She did not have to bear the burden of being the last airbender like Tenzin, nor did she have to carry the memory of being the last to keep watch over their father like Bumi. Their mother stayed resolute and kept moving forward, but Kya saw the tremble on her lips and the tears that came in spurts when no one but them could see.
Kya was tired of being told advice she did not need or want from strangers and people she hardly knew. She patted backs and said, "It's all right," to friends of friends of friends. She thought that someone else might think that she was consoling them. In fact, all of the theatrics and condolences annoyed her.
She did not want to see so many people. She did not want them to see the kind of weakness she only allowed herself when the darkness crept in and the door to her room was shut.
She felt fine. Then, she did not. It was a cycle, a curse. She had lost enough and yet too much. She had thought that after living a year of constant uncertainty she was made of the same metal even Toph Beifong could not bend.
Yet, it was not a sense of hope or acceptance that she felt, but rather the unrelenting roll of an ocean's waves as she rode them upon every dip and every crash. Because life, it seemed, would keep going, nonetheless.
And as the sun finally rose, melting the night off the trees, she remembered herself and forgot herself all at once.
She stayed that day to listen to the speeches, the eulogies, the cries, and the laughs. All of them were for the great Avatar Aang, the last true airbender, the man who had saved the world after the longest war in history.
When eventually an air acolyte who had been one of the first to join her father's followers sat beside her, she realized the anger she felt.
"I saw you tapping your feet to the flute rhythm Bumi was playing," they told her. "That's the dancing your father loved."
Kya perked up. "Yeah, he loved dancing!" she replied. "Once in a cave—"
"You know one of the Northern Air Temple acolytes, Tashi, tried dancing Phoenix Flight once."
Her shoulders fell. The acolyte kept talking to her.
She was searching for her father in places he could never be, in people that pretended to be interested in bonding with her but never were. They were people that emerged from the woodwork with pitying smiles and half-cares who arrived before her because it was right, and it was good, and it was what should have been done.
But Kya looked and never found the dad she really wanted.
She took their flowers and handwritten messages to add them to the collection piled and knew it was not fair.

[ chase sui wonders, genderqueer, she/they ] - was that DREW YAO i saw by the lighthouse today? i heard that the TWENTY-EIGHT year old who has been in nightrest for FIVE YEARS and works as a WOODWORKER has a reputation of being SUPPORTIVE, but also WITHDRAWN. they reside in FOG GATE & people in town usually associate them with LAUGHTER LIKE SODAPOP, THE FLUTTER OF A BUTTERFLY'S WINGS, & A WILTED FLOWER THAT'S FORGOTTEN IT'S A PERENNIAL. let’s hope the killer doesn’t go after them next. ╱ pinterest.
tw: parental death, drugs, accident resulting in injury.
basic background
first i should preface that, taking lily tomlin's sexuality into consideration, drew's mother was adopted by ida wistner as a child. however, due to her mother's preferred lifestyle ( drugs & partying ), it caused a lot of friction between the two, with drew's mother dropping out of high school and running away, soon landing in chicago where she eventually met drew's father.
anyway, i'm gonna make this as short and sweet as possible so if it doesn't make sense.......... yes it does.
--- drew's dad died from an overdose when they were three, their mother lost herself even further in her drug habit. drew's only saving grace was her skateboard and, through various competitions, eventually started making a splash as an up and coming pro; an opportunity they jumped on simply to get away from the mess that was her home life and terrible gang-riddled neighborhood.
--- sadly, after an argument with her mother over money won from a competition when drew was 22, she took off on her board and was involved in an accident with a car that resulted in various injuries, including a torn ACL, thus ending her skateboarding career.
--- whilst in the hospital recovering, drew was informed of the death of her mother via yet another overdose and the existence of her grandmother, ida. after going through the major part of recovery, ida convinced drew to come to nightrest, which is where she's been ever since.
extra bits
--- still skates, even though she probably shouldn't because it forces them to deal with knee pain on the regular.
--- really into music, the saxophone being her favourite, but she can play just about anything you put in front of her if given a bit to mess with it.
--- piggybacking off that, drew has no idea how to read music. she's one of those annoying people that can just play shit nearly perfect by ear.
--- was introduced to woodworking as a child by their neighbor and quickly fell in love with it. though they only ever calls herself a "woodworker" nowadays, drew also makes pottery.
--- doesn't partake in any hard drugs, given the history with their parents, but she's a big stoner and tends to have that kinda energy.
--- confrontation who???? drew don't know them. truthfully, drew doesn't even really know how to get upset. she's very much ~jellyfish just riding the waves~
--- hail satan maybe 🤷 depends the day
--- big lover of exploring abandoned places, both for photography purposes and ghost hunting purposes. seriously, where's the ryan to their shane?
--- really good at being a handyman? if you ever need something fixed around the house, drew is a good person to call for help.
--- has a black schipperke puppy named hades.
--- is a walking encyclopedia of a stupid amount of useless fun facts. collecting them is a hobby 😌
--- they're kinda a chameleon of sorts so this is all i'm gonna give you bc their personality changes on the fly and i'm tired bye.

I gotta say, I am happy the SL fandom has been more... calm, during the past year. Or, well... not calmed down, but I guess I have settled with it more?? Or y'all have settled with me?
Cause I stumbled across my liveblog posts from when I watched the show for the first time, and a lot of them had comments to them. Which, of course, was very fun! But a lot of comments I remember I got a bit stressed or intimidated by.
I have a way of writing and have a certain energy and I guess it takes a while to really get to know me. I also noticed that, as a newbie, people seemed to want me to think a certain way or want me to know how I was supposed to feel about things. I have noticed I can be the same with newbies, it's often well-meaning. But I didn't feel like that when I was in it myself.
I said that I liked Lumon, people told me "You will forget about them when you meet Simbar, cause Simbar is SO much better!" I said that I saw Nina as ace and I got an anon ask almost immediately asking me to explain myself why I would think that. I could write that I found a scene funny, and get a comment on the post, "this character really gets on my nerves here". Very often it was about Luna, or Jim or Yam. Three characters I often find very funny and sweet, so it wasn't the most fun when I just wanted to write something positive and I got the comment that people found them annoying in the scene - it was like, I was wrong for liking them in the scene. I could express that I didn't like Lutteo and get the comments "HOW CAN YOU NOT?!?!? THEIR CHEMISTRY IS OFF THE ROOFS?!?"
So what happened? I started to do the opposite out of spite.
I never forgot about Lumon. I did love Simbar a lot and I am happy they're endgame, but I never forgot about Lumon.
I don't think Nina is ace anymore, but I did for a very long time. Perhaps because, to some people, this caused a reaction?
I am still very defensive over Luna, Jim and Yam. Especially in season 3 - cause every time I see anyone say that they "pushed Nina to be with Eric" I just hope they'll see one of my thousands essays about it. They did not, and I will die on this hill. As much as it sucks, it was Nina herself primarily who got closer to Eric. Her friends encouraged it because they wanted their friend to be happy. Is it annoying when they go "ooh, I think he likes you". Yes. But guess what? Nina does that to them too. She actually has done that more than they have, they literally really only do it to her in s3. It just feels like you blame everything on them. And in the end, her friends don't give a damn who she dates as long as she's happy. I even think it would have been a little worse if her friends were like "No! You have to try to get back with Gastón! You have to keep thinking about him!" Did they do it perfectly? No, they're literally like 17 years old. They just go from their own life experiences, and yes, they might project their own thoughts onto Nina's situation, but Nina also does that to them. No one is innocent here. Every time I see a "they pushed her" post, I literally wish the person would rewatch season 3 or perhaps, actually watch it properly instead of jumping to conclusions. And if they have watched it then I am so tempted to send them one of my posts. This got very long, and I also have other examples - anyway, if I love and praise them, do not come and be like "they're annoying :/" in my comment section. Literally people being like this has caused me to always be on edge when mentioning them - even though no one has acted like this since last year (as mentioned above, the fandom has calmed down imo), I legit feel like I constantly need to be ready to defend them.
And yes, I still absolutely do not like Lutteo and I will like them even less if you tell me that I will like them. You can't tell me what to do??
Also I think due to how people reacted the first time, this may be one of my fave scenes out of spite, but weirdly enough one of my favorite scenes in the show is the girls talking about lutteo and niric in 3x56. I absolutely dislike both ships. I want them to not be a couple at all. BUT, the girls?? Being so excited for each other?? Luna joking that "what, should we tell everyone at roller to not be close to them" and Jim and Yam going "YES!! IT'S A GREAT IDEA!!"? IT'S NOT A GOOD IDEA, BUT IT'S SO FUNNY JUST BECAUSE IT'S SO TYPICALLY JIM AND YAM TO THINK IT IS (and guess what, Nina was happy they did that). And I've liked scenes like that before, for example in S1 when Luna and Nina dance away like "someone likes Ramiro!". I don't ship Yamiro at all either, but friends being supportive, teasing and excited for their friends just makes me so happy.
Anyway. Conclusion is, people in the SL fandom I feel aren't as much... questioning me anymore, like I felt people did when I first watched the show. But, as you noticed here, I do go off very easily, and that's because I have I am just used to having to defend myself. Even though, at this point, people are chill, people are fine, it's all good. You never know...

yesterday I got asked to cover about three waitressing shifts this month in the span of one hour - yes I did take all of them. one of them was today and I walk in and start doing pre-opening stuff and im told by the cooks that there's a party of 50 coming in today. first of all thanks for the heads up boss I wish you'd said something when you asked me to work but whatever its fine
BUT. the bartender I worked with tonight. oh my god.
listen I consider myself a pretty easygoing person, it takes a LOT for me to get angry. I can be frustrated and annoyed pretty easily, but not a lot makes my blood boil outside of like politics and human rights, you know stuff you should care about. I also don't want to flex or anything but I KNOW im a hard worker, I hold my own no matter where I am or what's thrown at me. literally a majority of the people I've worked with ever have only nice things to say about me - and they DO, to my face.
this bartender
oh my goodness
I can't remember the last time someone made me SO angry like that
I've only worked with her once before and she was pretty cool, we actually got along pretty well and so I was feeling pretty okay about today's shift because I was like oh it's her on today it'll be a good day. right off the bat she's being incredibly patronizing to me. literally within the first five minutes. I dont remember how we got there - it might have been because she was complaining about how people don't wipe the ketchup bottles before putting them away - but she started talking about the floor and how she wishes it had those like ergonomic mats and I mentioned how "oh, but at least there's some hardwood floor down now, we didn't have that a while back" and she claps back with "oh trust me sweetie I know, I've been coming here since you were in the fifth grade."
I brush it off because whatever, she can have her weird age superiority complex just because she's got maybe a decade on me, tops. she's also been a bartender like her entire working career, but I've worked at this particular restaurant for three years longer than her, so I'm not exactly clueless. I had worked at the coffeeshop this morning and hadn't eaten yet so I ask the cook to make me a lil sandwich so I can at least have enough energy to carry me through the shift considering I'm apparently serving a party of 50 tonight. I get it, I take a few bites, and almost immediately the bartender goes "can you do the ketchup and the parmesan" - HER job, btw, but I figure she's got a few people at the bar already so I go help her. she tells me "I started wiping them off but didn't get far, I also need you to marry them."
"to- to what"
"marry them"
"and refill them?"
"so you'll see I wiped this one off but obviously you still need to do the rest of them- you know especially since we've got a whole party coming in later we'll need some full ketchups. you've done this before right?"
"I've done what before? served a party?"
"no married the ketchups."
"what do you even mean by that"
"like combine the old ones"
"you're asking me if I've ever poured ketchup from one bottle into a different bottle...?"
there's this elderly couple sitting there witnessing this whole thing and they sort of laugh at that, the bartender makes some comment about how "oh I just call it that because I'm old and that's what we say in the industry" and the couple was like "we had NO idea what you were trying to say either." so they were basically my best friends now. when the bartender finally walks away we start making all these jokes about matrimony, they keep going "you're doing FANTASTIC, I've never seen anyone do a better job" and I'm absolutely playing into it because I literally could not believe this bartender was being serious.
anyway, the party starts coming in, I'm running around, the bartender is making drinks - not the ones I ring in, because apparently those aren't important, but making drinks nonetheless - and we're in the thick of it and she stops me while I'm grabbing some fountain drinks and goes "so are we pooling tips tonight or...?"
"I mean... idk, I don't really care what we do"
"well usually when we serve parties like this we pool tips"
I'm trying to run stuff out to my table so I'm kind of like "I mean whatever you wanna do I literally don't care" and she shoots back with "well just so you know in the future I prefer to communicate about this beforehand" so of course I snap back with "great, well I didn't know we were serving a party of 50 until about an hour ago. but I'll keep that in mind, thanks a lot." (please read that with nine miles of snark).
anyway apparently that pissed her off bc she went back to the cook - MY cook, the one who's literally like a mom to me - and starts bitching about how she "can't work with young people" and how much she can't stand me :p
and THAT made me so angry that I needed to step outside and take a breather.
anyway we did not pool tips, I did my cash out, tipped out the bartender, took my tips and walked out. she can keep those stupid party tips as my sincere apology for her having the burden of working with someone a little younger than her.
oh and my sandwich sat in the corner for the next four hours because I didn't get a chance to eat the rest of it after the ketchup wedding thank you so much for that one bestie
