Steve and Robin go out to a gay club in Indy one night and Robin ends up pissed off because even if she did make a couple of friends and connections with the local scene she didn't have as much luck as Steve who made out with like 5 dudes in a row. How come they're going to the gay places and her straight friend still has more game than her?! Turns out maybe not so much, since Steve spends the monday shift at family video talking how much he enjoyed kissing guys and how hot it got him and how it didn't feel like a performance—which Robin can relate to that part—so maybe it's time to keep experimenting? Robin thinks he might be going a little fast but Steve is determined so he asks if he should ask Eddie if he's down to hooking up so he can try having sex with a guy which sends Robin into another spiral because whoa, since when are you aware that Eddie's gay? (And shit, if she said it out loud to Steve does that count as outing Eddie?!) Steve says he just knows, the same way he knows that Vicky is into boobies (ugh, not this again!) and anyway there's no harm in asking. Robin's mind is blown when Steve literally picks up the phone and calls Eddie if he's down to fuck that night at his place. She's not surprised Eddie agrees. He might be even more of a masochist than Robin herself, really. Which leads to a very interesting night where Robin spends hours trying to concentrate on her stupid homework and not think about how her best friend, her soulmate, the light of her life, is right now having gay sex literally days after finding out "kissing guys is cool actually," when it took her years to admit to herself that she was into girls. And it's even more mortifying when a little after midnight Steve calls her—of course he does—and informs her that sex with men is actually so much better than sex with girls, for him at least, he just had the best orgasm of his life (good for him) and inform her that he now has a boyfriend. Honestly, what did Robin expect. Good for Steve and his simple, honest heart.

Mmm, thinking about Ghost going on a date with reader after not having been in a proper relationship in years

He was never one for hookups, and he could never keep long-term relationships. Most lasted about a month at most before he backed out.

Fast forward to now, he's been invited out by you. He figures it'll be like most other dates, a quick dinner at a noisy restaurant before he gets overwhelmed and leaves.

To his surprise, it isn't. You kept his comfort in mind and suggested a walk by the bay instead.

When he walks beside you in silence, you don't seem to take offense. In fact, you don't seem to mind at all. You fill in his silence with easy conversation, keeping it focused on you and not trying to pry into his personal life.

You don't hesitate when he responds with one word answers, instead taking the opportunity to discuss an interest of your own. By the time it's long past dark out, you offer to take him home, apologizing for not acknowledging the time sooner. He didn't want to stop listening to your voice

When he declines your offer, you smile. You tell him to stay safe, to rest well, and to text you when he gets home.

At his apartment, he can't stop thinking about you. About how polite and kind you were. About how you actually cared about his feelings, how you weren't off put by him.

He glances at his phone.

You receive a text at 1 in the morning. A simple 'Back safe.'

I just went to the Fantasy exhibition at the British Library (which was fantastic and anyone reading this with the opportunity should go and support the library after the cyber attack) and saw lots of wonderful things relating to your work.

Some of your notes on Coraline were on display and I was wondering about how you tend to write now. Given the rise of the PC in the intervening decades, is your work now almost all written on computers or do you find writing on paper still to be most effective? I know a lot of writers who rigidly stick to one option but others who vary between notebooks, computer, phones, voice recordings etc and it's sort of fascinating how everyone has their rhythm.

Also big thanks to the doppelgänger who runs this tumblr account and gets such accurate answers despite Neil Gaiman's lack of social media!

Oh, we had computers back in the longago. The first book I wrote on a computer was Don't Panic! in 1986. The first third of Coraline was written on computer. And then in 1992 we moved to America, and Coraline was the book I was writing in my own time (because nobody was waiting for it) and I slowly realised that I didn't have any of my own time any more.

So the Coraline notebook in the British Library's fantasy exhibition is the book I bought in around 1998 and which lived by my bed, and in which I wrote about 50 words a night to keep Coraline going.

These days I normally write something in longhand first unless I don't. (Tragically, and it really is a tragedy for me, I've actually, somewhere in my travels in early January, lost the Good Omens TV notebook, so I need to start a new one.)
