Hunter's Experiences After Belos's Death
Tumblr media
Oops, this got long. Aw well, it was really fun to write.
Special thanks to @ashanimus!
This is speculative at the end of the day, but since:
1. This is my fave animated show of all time
2. I grew up with Complex PTSD (CPTSD) like Hunter
3. I work as a therapist,
I thought to list down some things I can visualize happening in the duration of the finale's timeskip, before that beautiful epilogue we saw. And I want to dive in using whatever clues, leads and parallels I can find in canon: to analyze and see how he went from the Bad But Sad Boy to that peaceful-looking palisman carver in the epilogue.
A small reference I had for this meta is Cinema Therapy's episode on the Hunger Games movies (link), since the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, from the book and also movie trilogy would have the same diagnosis as Hunter. Those books and movies explored how Katniss coped with the frightening and dramatically different landscape that was the calmness of her world post-victory.
Part 1: His Possible Experiences Leading Up to Seeking a Therapist
His disposition could possibly become like Luz's from early Season 3: a state of emotionally shutting down and numbing out. He appeared to nearly head in this direction right after he was revived by Flapjack, as he began to cry. There was that small window where he could have expressed more tears than he did, and have his body shut down under the weight of bereavement.
But the immediate physical threat, Belos, was still on the run. He got up, sprang into action and didn't catch a break from the time he followed Belos through the portal until he stood in The Collector's palace after Belos died (had he even received the news of his 'Uncle' dying yet??!).
Now that Belos isn't around anymore, the Isles will have a completely different feel and rebuilding the land would've taken grueling work after the dismantling of a damaging Coven System.
I was looking at Luz's behavior and gestures in Thanks to Them, which were indicative of her sinking into depression after 1. the horrible revelation in Hollow Mind that she unintentionally helped Philip. 2. witnessing Flapjack's death. I'm putting screenshots of her below in parallel with Hunter's own emotions in For the Future:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have different mental health conditions if you talk symptoms, e.g. Luz doesn't show signs of CPTSD hypervigilance, while Hunter doesn't have that slowing down in his physical and mental activity which points to depression. But both have suffered from moral injury thanks to Belos's violence and manipulation.
However, a major comparison is that Hunter has had much more repressed emotion over a long period compared to Luz. The column with Hunter screencaps above, is what he may feel with a much higher intensity in the weeks and months after he first hears that his abuser has passed on.
Shown below, the few seconds of Hunter's big smile drooping when it was all over, was a big hint for me:
Tumblr media
A hint that there is a deep undercurrent of emotions he'd much rather not feel, that he'd probably rather hide from himself. Even while smiling, we know how his heart-wrenching story has played out and the light in his eyes here doesn't match the brightness we see in his expressions in the epilogue, post-timeskip.
That is the face of a kid who has not cried out massive amounts of tears yet. He doesn't look like he's carrying a light load yet, compared to what we see in his future self. And it's certainly a heavier smile than the jollier one he makes here right after King's Tide when Flapjack was still around:
Tumblr media
I can't imagine the amount of grief that his body has yet to dredge up and release, once he finally doesn't have to worry about his 'uncle' threatening his life anymore. Too many times to count, I've been in the situation where I cry intensely after being retraumatized and think "Huh? More tears? Where did it come from?? I thought I had cried it all out from my whole being the last time!". It kind of convinced me that anyone with CPTSD has so much grief stored up in their body that the number of times needed to have a good cry feels like a really endless expanse.
However: because I had 7 years of being in and out of therapy, what matters is that the durations between these episodes of mine, the durations of the episodes themselves, plus their intensity have reduced a lot. It was around a 4-year timeskip in the finale, so for Hunter to get as far as he did to heal, his own therapy sessions would've probably been rigorous and very consistent.
Anyway, he might now cycle through his own version of what Luz cycled through when she gradually shuts down from failing to build a new portal door in Thanks to Them, continually believes she's as bad as Belos, and when she alludes to her suicidal ideation in the classroom:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
whereby there is a likely parallel between Luz wrestling with guilt from her own moral injury, and Hunter's own guilt from what he wished he could've done to prevent being possessed, to prevent Flapjack from dying. Both their situations are that of moral injuries.
The adrenaline rush would be over for everyone on the Isles.
I'm quite sure the therapists on the Isles will operate pretty soon after the news about Belos's death was out. They would conduct whatever version of mental health triage they have, that involves risk assessments and crisis counselling. Both of these based on what I've learnt are shorter in duration (30 minutes) and are one-off sessions, compared to regular talk therapy which is an hour minimum.
The therapists would be redirecting people to necessary resources e.g. where to find food or loved ones, and managing distress only related to people's immediate needs instead of forming a longer term plan for several weekly sessions.
I believe things are simpler when you are running away from an external threat, like the two Hunter scenarios below. In Hollow Mind there is no emotion on his face because in peak C-PTSD mode he has shut down his emotions to pour that energy into escaping Belos. In Thanks to Them, he appears quite obviously scared with widened eyes because he got comfortable with safety for months and Belos's return was a surprise attack (thanks ashanimus for pointing out to me how his expressions are animated!):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But what is there to run from now? Not an external threat for sure. The war zone is now the one in his mind, heart and soul and it would become front and center. I believe both these screenshots are two notches on a dial, and the missing third image - which would show him finding it difficult to stuff down the grief any longer, might look like a more exasperated version of when he told Willow "Please don't call yourself [a Half-a-Witch] ever again" in For the Future, and eventually a more depressed version of his vanishing smile in The Collector's Palace.
When can he really run from himself? Only while asleep, if he's spared nightmares on any given night, or while distracting himself with the main mission of rebuilding the Isles or continuing to bond with his friends and other people.
His anger in For the Future was a telling sign for me that he made sure his focus was still on an external threat: he still had the opportunity to do so back then, because Belos was still alive. But when we see him in The Collector's palace sending Willow off to her dads, there has realistically been a shift in what will threaten the more fragile shreds of inner peace he's still clinging on to. There are those scary trauma-related emotions to worry about, which wouldn't have just evaporated into thin air. They would be looking for a new outlet, and they'll find their way into flashbacks, nightmares, tension still stored in the body, an exaggerated startle response, etc.
We have seen a range of reactions he has to danger, triggers and emotional pain: some involve moving his body more, and fewer involve a short of shutting down:
Flinching during Belos's tantrums, being able to fight Kikimora calmly, freezing up in the throne room (Hunting Palismen)
Suicidal ideation and even a sort of suicide plan (Eclipse Lake)
Freezing up and expecting punishment from Darius (Any Sport in a Storm)
Being able to stay almost entirely calm as he learnt more and more of the truth about Belos, though his hand was shaking briefly, then a panic attack later on (Hollow Mind)
Lots of avoidance symptoms like numbing, combined with hypervigilance e.g. shivering and another panic attack (Labyrinth Runners)
Feeling fear with underlying shame and subconsciously expecting punishment, when he failed to save Luz (Clouds on the Horizon)
Freezing and recoiling, though he fought against this by asserting a boundary with Belos (King's Tide)
Panic attack when looking into the mirror and having an emotional flashback, hypervigilance e.g. stamping his foot and shivering (Thanks to Them)
Anger and rage to cope with bereavement, later being tearful (For the Future)
Most likely a sense of bereavement, deep exhaustion and possibly loneliness, during that briefly shown moment in The Collector's Palace (Watching and Dreaming)
The serious work he has to put in to heal from his trauma would begin once his whole body gives in to the exhaustion, catching up with the bereavement-related emotions that have also begun to settle in. It could be a massive emotional and physical collapse that he can't fight off, where his physical energy levels become tanked seemingly out of nowhere. And I think it would look like a worse version of him lying in his makeshift grave, where he is barely able to move around the house or anywhere for some time.
This happened to Katniss in the Hunger Games trilogy, and while the portrayal was done differently in the books and movies, both were good explorations of what it's like to shift from the default high alert (and long-term) mode of CPTSD to coping with the scary unknown world of newfound safety. Katniss spent her childhood in poverty and being constantly on edge that she might be chosen for the Hunger Games, being parentified, to provide for her family.
While participating in the games, she had to utilize battle skills and kill others to survive and sustained many injuries, still constantly on high alert whereby any respite would last for incredibly short durations. Towards the end of the story, after she loses the one she loved most (her sister Prim, who I think can be a parallel of Flapjack in this meta), Katniss shifts from peak physical activity into mostly sleeping and being actively suicidal for months, hardly moving and not leaving the house, until the shock of traumatic grief began to wear off. She absolutely crashed and went from one extreme to the other. In the movie Mockingjay Part 2, they added a non-book scene where her grief comes out in an outburst when she sees their pet cat hanging around on the kitchen counter. She flings an object in the cat's direction, then screams "[Prim] is gone!!" repeatedly before collapsing into heavy sobs, picking up the cat and holding it to her chest to soothe herself.
This kind of major collapse might happen very soon to Hunter after he leaves The Collector's Palace or only after some weeks. The timing of this, I can't predict. The reason why he didn't appear to have this issue in the early months being in the human realm is because there was still something external to concentrate on: help his friends get back to the Human Realm, help Luz reunite with Eda and King, while him and Flapjack hoped to go home too.
You could argue that even now, he still has something external to focus on i.e. helping the others rebuild the Isles. However I keep imagining that the people who love him are going to be quite adamant in getting him, Luz and the other kids to please rest. Since we saw Steve recommend his therapist to Lilith in O Titan Where Art Thou, I can picture the adults in particular monitoring how Hunter is doing without Flapjack.
But if this collapse I'm speculating about doesn't happen so soon, he would be pouring himself into helping others, referencing his character-centric line all the way back in Hunting Palismen about wanting to offer help, which he utters twice in that episode. There is an overlap between this expectation he has of himself and the old habit he's at risk of falling back into periodically: overworking.
Once his desire to help others is clearly comes across as an avoidance tactic on the outside - a maladaptive coping mechanism to run from the very difficult emotions that he should be processing - people around him are definitely going to set boundaries and say "No" to any attempts he makes to assist them. Someone is probably going to tell him that whatever desperation he is showing in wanting to help other people, needs to be redirected at himself. Making time and space for himself, taking time off to rest.
Him suffering from a major emotional and physical collapse is pretty likely because things are more complicated (though, physically much much safer) for him now than at the beginning of Thanks to Them when he had just fled from Belos to the human realm, and had Flapjack as his closest company. Fast forward to the victory won in Watching and Dreaming: both Flapjack and Belos are gone now.
It's telling that different thoughts are occupying Hunter's mind now, from how his expressions are drawn during his first days in the human realm vs. when peace is restored in the Isles.
1. See the sense of calmer urgency in his expression, putting the mission of building the portal door first, while experiencing a strong sense of togetherness with his friends, and learning to trust Camila who is treating him well:
Tumblr media
compared to
2. the sheer exhaustion and feeling of "What now...?" (see his upper eyelids below?) that set in, once he helped Willow find her parents and there was no more task at hand that didn't involve himself. His bright smile from a split-second ago has drooped and disappeared:
Tumblr media
I know that right after the above frame, Darius and Eberwolf reunited with him, but his emotions are going to cycle up and down in the hours, weeks and months ahead. The elation from seeing Darius and Eber - people who were there to greet him when he expected nobody to turn up - is not going to last, though it will certainly come and go, because high-running positive emotions like that don't last as long, especially in the context of the life he's had as a child soldier. It's totally possible that on the same night, hours after this reunion with their loved ones, their emotions will shift drastically.
The tired look in his eyes above and the sad face he then makes, is in between two moments of him having something external to focus on (Willow and then Darius). I'm inclined to think that the above depressed look reflects a lot of the complexity that is going on underneath the surface. What is his state of mind when alone with his thoughts, when he has zero tasks to perform? How is he handling those thoughts?
There will be a deep, sometimes mind-numbing sense of bereavement over two significant figures in his life. First Flapjack, now this:
Tumblr media
He used to love Belos. But I'm really not sure he can just uproot that love from deep within and discard it. Hunter carries memories like the following ones around which will be confusing to navigate on tougher days, despite being able to tell Luz "That's what Belos does, he tricks people". Because these were his formative years:
Tumblr media
and something tells me that Philip was cunning enough to strike a delicate balance between being 'nice' to Hunter like above, versus unleashing his violent temper to terrify and harm him. Making sure that balance was so close to 50/50 that it would leave a child very confused. So confused he would rather believe he's never good enough rather than the more frightening prospect that his so-called family does not actually love him at all.
Hunter will have a moment now and then of still missing the 'niceness' that his 'uncle' showed towards him (felt in his heart and subconscious), while still knowing (in his head, rationally) that Philip was not genuine when treating him that way.
To note though, he did not witness Belos's death which reduces the severity of intrusive images that the poor kid would see in his mind.
What I'm worried about is how he'll handle the news about the grimwalker graveyard, since I'm sure that location is going to be scoured and Darius would want to give his mentor a proper sending off. They'd want to give all the Golden Guards and Caleb a sending off and pay their respects. This might add to what I suspect will be the messed up depression he'll fall into.
It will be very confusing and emotionally disorienting, literally not needing to worry about anyone killing him anymore. He has had no point of reference for this in his life at all. It might possibly the furthest he ever goes from that primal survival instinct he had while living in the Castle for so long, which took up the majority of his life so far:
Tumblr media
There will also be the added layer of how he feels about those first emotions. This is literally a concept called Feelings About Feelings and it's a key part of my work since I use the Satir Model in my style of counselling. We don't just feel emotions, we also tack on our own judgments and evaluations about them. E.g. shame about feeling anger, guilt about feeling sad because of burdening others, or even a combination like fear about feeling joy which can show up in healing from bereavement.
Depending on how we feel about whichever emotions got there first, it makes a difference because we could be adding or subtracting unnecessary suffering from the first emotion, especially if the first emotion is an already unpleasant one.
I have a feeling that we'd see Hunter look very very tired, till he makes breakthroughs in therapy. A tiredness that sleep, a healthy diet and exercise alone simply cannot fix. Because there's an entire upbringing in the Emperor's Coven to sort through in his head, this time not combined with the avoidance of having fled to the human realm and living under one roof with his friends.
The Hexsquad are not living under the same roof anymore, they are reunited with their own families with much to emotionally talk out, and the group no longer has a very urgent single collective mission. Sure, Hunter has an active role to play in rebuilding the Isles, but what about rebuilding his very self? He has the steepest climb, because we have seen the symptoms he exhibits.
Most of all, referencing a section of my Retraumatization and Self-Soothing (Part 1) meta (link), a memory as horrible as this:
Tumblr media
will likely be the most intrusive image is going to be replaying again and again over the months to come, and it may flood his thoughts during moments of being triggered or even out of nowhere during quiet moments for no apparent reason. It will be just like a broken record, where the same small excerpt of a song loops endlessly until the needle of the gramophone is repositioned.
It was remarkably poignant that his final words to Belos were "And most of all, I'm going to make sure you never hurt anyone again", and I'm happy with the story keeping it this way and understand why the writers likely made this decision - not just because the season was shortened. Hunter did not need to directly see or hear more from Belos in close quarters, not after his abuser minimized his needs for years, gaslit him, possessed him and got him to murder his best friend with his own hands.
It's more straightforward to make sure someone else isn't hurting anyone. It's easier to think of what plans to implement, when it comes to him protecting others: which he has had plenty of practice with. Because those are practical methods that we can see in action on the outside.
But here's the kicker: what about applying that last grand statement from his TTT speech to himself, emotionally: making sure he isn't psychologically hurting himself with harmful unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, after Belos's death? "I'll make sure I don't hurt myself (and by extension, my loved ones) again".
This will be very new to him, and it is a theme that I handle in pretty much every client case in my therapy work. The client's self-dialogue, the self-compassion or lack thereof. Which, in real life, is often not a concept that our own families and schools introduce to us to be familiar with.
For Hunter, this may translate into him making the decision to get help and truly accepting the gift of life that Flapjack gave him.
Basically this on a much bigger scale:
Tumblr media
whereby in Flapjack's absence, he can truly believe in this new and positive fundamental belief about himself. The evidence that he managed to make it to that heartbreaking but incredibly beautiful place is pretty strong:
Tumblr media
But before his happy ending, the pressure on himself to be useful to others via helping and working is likely going to come back and be used as his way of coping, and there's a chance it will cross the line into becoming a form of self-harm that he's relying on to avoid the frightening, deeper emotional pain. People around him know him well enough that they'll be able to spot his behavioral changes and then sense he is not going in a helpful direction. They'll see that it's hurting him even though it's the most familiar territory for his mind to be in, and someone is going to tell him to change that.
He's going to be seeing his friends with their palismen. How will it be like being among them, even if they are pretty good at supporting him? How would he attempt to make sense of the void that is the absence of the incredible love he experienced from that first friend, the absence of that mental link between witch and palisman?
What emotions could be lurking beneath the surface? Believe it or not, there are some signs from Luz's nightmare even though yes, Hunter was being controlled by The Collector. I wouldn't quickly dismiss this dark Flapjack-related scene as 100% being about The Collector's goal to scare Luz in the nightmare.
I think there was a smaller subplot going on as well.
The Collector needed material to work with in the first place, to perform the puppet acts: the material was whatever fears and whatever pain was already there in their targets.
Tumblr media
The Collector didn't create Hunter's emotions from scratch for the puppet act; instead he manipulated and redirected what existed at the base level. All this wouldn't work as analogies of mental illness vs. mental health if The Collector could just engineer emotions on their own and simply replace whatever his puppet targets were already feeling. Emotions never vanish and always take up space somewhere, they are redirected, transformed or channeled into outlets even if it means they become repressed or locked away. But they never stop existing.
I have a feeling that despite the nightmare being Luz's, despite Hunter being used as an instrument for The Collector to achieve their goals...the pre-existing emotions that Hunter himself felt in his body, not puppet!Hunter's verbal responses towards Luz, were true. He is a haunted boi.
Tumblr media
This face he makes above might be a hint at the worst of his pain. It might be the furthest he has felt from when he said "I like who I am right now" to Flapjack. In the place of that confidence from before, there might now be his own version of Luz's "I'm as bad as Belos". I cannot be entirely certain, but the negative belief that may have taken root in him could be "I am not deserving of the life Flapjack gave me".
Interestingly, if this is the case, it could easily parallel his line from all the way back in Any Sport in A Storm: "I'm unfit to wear the sigil of the Golden Guard." It's definitely a possibility, since Hunter is now faced with having a lot of time and space now, and less urgency than he's ever had in his life, to think back on all those times he helped to further Belos's cause. Especially when it came to sending many palismen to their deaths.
With his own palisman now dead, the engraving we would eventually see on Flapjack's grave: "Thank you for finding me", would be the destination. But the journey needed to reach that destination of amazing gratitude in the first place...must have been a harrowing one. In the early months of the acute grief, it would've been more like "Why did you have to find me?! You shouldn't have. Then none of this would've happened". Not forgetting the number of times Hunter has replayed in his head what he could've done differently, trying so desperately to rewind the clock and make that better alternate timeline a reality.
If you remove The Collector and even Luz from the equation in the Luz nightmare scene, Hunter may well be having such responses - the ones that puppet!Hunter directed at Luz to blame Luz - as a dialogue with himself. He might direct those negative emotions towards himself since he's so careful about hurting others and has taken on unfair punishment for so much of his life.
Even when he was temporarily himself, smiling, expressing a positive emotion to encourage Luz with "What's the first thing you do when you wake up from a bad dream?", that was him conversing with another person, someone external. Not his own self. I am willing to bet he wasn't at a point in his arc where he would smile at himself like that and easily encourage himself in the same way.
While we can be certain he had already reached his breakthroughs by the time we saw him post-timeskip, he has not experienced them yet in the frame above. He has not felt (yet) what Luz felt onscreen when she had breakthroughs in relation to her moral injury:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taking a leap of faith to accept the Titan's gift, to trust that he chose her because she has a good heart and will never be Belos.
Then later, being able to stand firm, believing she truly is good ("I am the Good Witch Luz!"), and not uttering a word to Belos as he died - which was post-traumatic growth beyond how she broke down under his threats and manipulation towards the end of Hollow Mind and later in King's Tide.
Recap time. In the (quite likely) long period that passes by before we meet his new palismen, he's likely going to want to jump into action and attend meetings with Darius, Eberwolf and co, help to physically rebuild things and organize people with his own Coven Head experience. Leaning back on the ingrained and familiar lifestyle of pouring himself into work and gearing towards burnout is certainly a risk to watch out for.
The Hexsquad, CATTs and the Clawthorne sisters are going to notice his behavior and likely urge him to get appropriate rest and seek help.
However, there is the other extreme: Belos isn't around anymore to torment him, and Hunter would know this in the rational sense (head knowledge). Which leads to the possibility that he may swing towards shutting down as opposed to overworking tendencies. He would feel allowed to do whatever he wants, in this new Boiling Isles, and he had months of opportunities to do that in the early part of Thanks to Them before Belos's return.
What I'm getting at is, if he didn't sleep enough before, he might swing towards sleeping too much after finally collapsing from the familiarity of survival mode into unknown but genuinely safe territory. If he cared too much about helping others before, he might swing towards a depressive state of apathy (the closest canon reference point would be him digging his grave: he was very disarmed in that scene to even think much about helping anyone including Belos). This is why the screenshot I used of his smile drooping in The Collector's Palace, feels like a big clue to me. This would be where Darius, Camila and other adults have to seriously keep watch over him.
In the Cinema Therapy episode I had as a small reference for this post, the licensed therapist who hosts the series mentions that "It takes a lot longer to put oneself back together than it took to fall apart." In Hunter's case, the "falling apart" period here refers to that collapsing I mentioned. It would be the time between:
1. the grief hitting him in full force: when he subconsciously understands and acknowledges that Flapjack isn't coming back (which...will involve hell of a lot of wailing and sobbing. Him having a full version cry of those first few tears he shed at the end of TTT),
and
2. the time when the painful shock from feeling the full force of the grief has decreased enough that it plateaus.
This falling apart stage may need to pass before he seeks therapy. If he tries going for sessions while still going through that shock and pain, it might be too much for him.
As terrible and sad as it sounds, a deep dark spiral like this might be necessary. It would be his body and mind wanting to compensate for several years' worth of unnatural hypervigilance which wasn't serving him in a advantageous way (i.e. surviving) any longer. His body and mind begging for rest at last, to try and make sense of everything that happened. This big collapse into depression would empty out the old and free up much room in him for new stories, beliefs and perspectives to take root. Depression is, after all, the body's attempt to (maladaptively) try and protect us by numbing us, or else we would be overwhelmed.
As someone whom we know keeps himself very busy, this could be the period where he is the furthest he has ever been from that old simpler life. Because his CPTSD-ridden body would be demanding more than ever that he compensates for a childhood and teen years' lack of general rest, he may not even have the strength to cope the way he did before. The only way he might possibly cope in this period is to go with the flow of that raging current and do exactly what his body is asking of him: getting real rest.
Like what happened with Katniss in the Hunger Games trilogy, this early grieving stage would emotionally be difficult and terrifying, like walking along a tightrope, finding balance between left and right to angle yourself as straightly as possible and walk forward. (the tightrope metaphor is what I use with some of my clients to explain swinging between extremes of coping mechanisms).
The missing pieces of the puzzle in his arc, in the 4-year duration before the timeskip, might be his own version of these points in Luz's arc:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
where she sank lower before she realized her deepest wish and emotionally experienced her worst fear in her Watching and Dreaming nightmare.
For Hunter, these could look like the following:
Like Luz saying it'd be better for everyone that she permanently stays in the human realm, Hunter might say he wants to remove himself from his loved ones in some way, for good. Whether a literal suicide attempt (like Katniss from The Hunger Games) or not, I can't say for sure.
A parental figure trying to reach out to him, saying he is deserving of Flapjack's gift. But he still struggles to believe that. What matters though is this parental figure is present and he's not pushing them away.
Him hearing some confirmation of his deepest negative belief about himself, in his own nightmares. Like Luz hearing the most terrifying things she could ever hear - Amity's "You've been the real villain this whole time" and "But for the sake of everyone you hurt, I challenge you to a witch's [duel]".
Him being able to reach an emotional space where he can begin to question that unhelpful belief: "Am I really deserving of Flapjack's gift?", or something similar.
The big moment when he finally tells someone how he really feels about the possession, Belos's death, Flapjack's absence in this new supposed peace and quiet....this would be the important invitation for the other person to connect and meet his emotional needs, and is a lot like how support groups for addiction work: a client needs to acknowledge that they are struggling with a problem, not avoiding it with distractions any longer, and then seek help and express their need for said help.
I suppose the question is how soon Hunter might decide to accept professional help and give it a go: or whether he'd have the genuine need for space first and say "I need some time". Because one's rational mind can be ready to go for therapy, but their subconscious and body would find it too unpleasant if it's too soon. Every part of him would have to be ready to begin putting himself back together after the falling apart stage occurs.
The messed up experience of CPTSD is that you stay shockingly calm during real danger, but on the flip side have big, disproportionate freakouts during actually safe times. Compare how calm Hunter was when he smiled at Luz in her nightmare while he was tied up with puppet strings vs. his fear and shame when he couldn't save Luz in Clouds on the Horizon.
In a CPTSD memoir I read, the author describes that it was horribly frightening to hear her partner be in a bad mood and wash the dishes more loudly than usual, while during the pandemic, she felt completely calm seeing empty shelves in a supermarket when she struggled to get supplies.
From my own experience, I have experienced being pretty damn calm when bleeding out and needing hospitalization. But in a different year before that, I recall one afternoon alone in my house right before a vacation where a strong gust of wind very loudly slammed an open door shut next to where I happened to be standing, and I broke down sobbing from a retraumatization via an emotional flashback. Because it felt extremely real as if my abusive parent was lashing out to physically hurt me.
After a 5-year period of mostly being in talk therapy, and then a 2-year period of regularly scheduled EMDR therapy, my response if I have a door loudly slam shut near me now would maybe be a smaller-scale flinch and a flash of anger that would last about maybe a minute. Which is miles better than sobbing for half an hour and being dissociated and frozen in a memory for hours before I thaw out of that flashback.
Since the show's writing is just that good, I could look at Luz's depressive symptoms manifesting in Thanks to Them and see a likely parallel in Hunter's story moving forward, since we know how much this show also digs neat and tidy parallels. These are characters written for TV after all, so they'd have to fit a formula to an extent, to have compelling arcs and reach high and low points along said arcs.
Part 2: Therapy Itself
Part 1 was the setup to give a good amount of context: now for the technicalities of the therapy sessions themselves:
Like Adrian Graye said in Labyrinth Runners, Illusion Magic can sort through memories. We have seen from Gus's own powerful Illusion abilities that he could do so with Belos. It makes sense that a therapist does this in sessions to have a magnified version of how in our world, therapists exercise empathy by imagining what it is like to be their clients:
Tumblr media
I would monitor whether his mood (what he is feeling within) and affect (how the emotions appear on the outside e.g. tone of voice, face expressions) are congruent. Congruence usually means a client is in less distress. Incongruence might mean they are in so much pain that they can't connect directly with the main emotion: the perfect example of this being Hunter laughing when digging his grave.
We therapists take note of aspects such as affect, mood, the client's motor activity, any indicators of psychosis, even down to things like how untidy their hair looks in case we get clues about the severity of their issues (this is called a Mental Status Exam, and we write what we see in our case notes per session).
Because CPTSD is so relationship-centric, I'd discuss how he's getting along with new parental figures (the Belos replacements who will heal him so much and change his life forever!) and friends.
If the Boiling Isles therapists use their own equivalent of EMDR therapy, which is theorized to be like a waking version of how REM sleep and REM-related dreams help our brains to sort through memories, it sounds like a great fit for his case. This intervention involves subconscious work and could help him reshape how he experiences memories of Flapjack and Belos. EMDR clients are expected to see vivid images popping up without control in their mind during the sessions, and they are quite symbolic e.g. seeing a grey sky often indicates grief, seeing lighter colors indicates more calm. This technique helps a client's subconscious rewrite their story the way they'd like it to be, and install new positive beliefs and emotions over time.
My own example of EMDR experiences from the second half of 2019 as a client, is it majorly changed how I related to my own abuser, got me to finally feel allowed to emotionally break away from her, even though she is still alive and even lives in the same building.
In the early sessions, I saw an image of my 5-year-old self being forced to wear an ugly grey apron that my abuser used for baking. The apron is a real object, not fictional, and the emotions I felt showing up were matching with the image: feeling very uncomfortable seeing a visual representation of my abuser's hold over me.
But in a later session after a few months, guided by my therapist, I saw a vivid image of my abuser receiving a sea burial. She was lying peacefully on the water surface and sank down until she was gone. That was me subconsciously burying any expectation that she could ever provide what I needed. This was so powerful that I could go home after that session and permanently (so far) be significantly calmer around my abuser.
Therefore if Hunter goes through something like this, he'd potentially be able to put Belos to rest and have it feel very real and true: and have significantly reduced distress about Belos-related memories. There is the potential for powerful breakthroughs for him here, especially also related to Flapjack's death and how challenging it might be to carve palismen in the beginning. Especially since in the worst case scenario, even touching palistrom wood might be enough to badly trigger him. I cover this particular point a bit more in my other meta, Retraumatization and Self-Soothing (Part 1).
We would also be discussing what he's implementing into his routine and what may benefit him. I would be seeing if he is able to laugh about things, be motivated enough to be outdoors and among people, experience pleasure when creating new things, and form closer bonds with parental figures (what I just listed is to do with neurotransmitters in the brain that increase mental health: serotonin, endorphins, dopamine and oxytocin).
If I were his therapist I might suggest that whatever volunteering tasks he does, he carries those out with his friends, and time should be allocated to managing and taking care of a specific demographic: children. Because I think it'd be a safe, low stakes form of unfamiliarity for him to have enough emotional distance from his traumatic memories. Early months of acute grief usually require such emotional distance.
Having a good dose of an environment like that alongside the other tasks where he's working alongside Darius etc, could help him because kids' emotions are less complex, and their infectious laughter and fun-loving nature may play a role in helping him be more open with his own inner child. His therapist would be seeking to draw out that inner child in their sessions, and that little child would need to feel safe enough to emerge.
Importantly, his future palisman: it would've been interesting if he did what Luz did with Stringbean and allowed the palisman to be whoever they wanted to be...that would've been a nicely organic process. But even if he had a good idea to incorporate a Flapjack-like design but change details like the color, I'm sure he thought it through very well. I'm certain that this was a major topic of discussion at some stage of his therapy. Discussing the guilt he'd feel about replacing Flapjack vs. still taking Flapjack with him in a new way.
Coming from a strengths-based angle: paying attention to which of his individual strengths he is shows and recounts in the session. If he needs reminding, I could give him a simple worksheet listing various positive qualities and ask him to circle/colour in which ones he feels he has, which then prompts further discussion and questions. Lastly, a powerful tool called reframing e.g. if he says he's worried about being a nuisance to his friends, I'll point out how much he cares about their comfort and affirm that place of kindness.
Work on inviting self-compassion into how he sees himself. Is he able to view himself the way he views his friends? If he remembers the encouragement he gave to Luz about "turning on the light", I would ask him what that would look like in his own life, symbolically.
Tumblr media
Hunter's own life has been a really really bad dream for a very long time. He himself has to reach for that light switch and choose to heal by embracing Flapjack's ultimate gift to him.
And we can rest assured that Hunter did that.
Because this post-traumatic growth right here?
Tumblr media
This looks like multiple breakthroughs have taken place while he's been receiving consistent care from an excellent community. And there's no way it was an easily won victory. It has been very much hard-won, after how dark the story became in Hollow Mind and Thanks to Them, and it looks like whatever breakthroughs he had left him pleasantly surprised.
It doesn't seem like his heart and soul can contain this much joy and hope, without a very painful dismantling to have taken place first, to make room for the most unexpected treasures to fill his life back up.
The joy becomes even greater if you never would've expected it in your wildest dreams.

Lots of Sparks
PJO
Pairing: PLATONIC! Jackson Family (Paul and Tyson inculded) x Mortal! GN!Reader
Words: 1222
Summary: This is supposed to be a Part 2, of my other work "A Little Spark", since I'm making this a timeskip it will be at the final of Book 4, in Percy's 15th Birthday Party, and the Start of Book 5, before he is with Rachel. The Jackson family receives 2 guests in the party, one we know who they are, but what about the 2nd?
Warnings: Timeline: End of Book 4: The Battle of the Labyrinth and Start of Book 5: The Last Olymlian. English is not my 1st language! And you are older than in Part 1. Canon change.
Notes: Thank you so much for liking so much Part 1! I tried to do my best since I didn't really have something to do. Most of this is fluff because Gabe (🤢) is finally gone! And family bonding. I hope you like this part as the first, but Idk..
⋆ ˚。⋆୨☆୧⋆ ˚。⋆
While preparing the party you and Percy were talking of what Paul calls 'Girl affairs'.
"...And then she KISSED ME." Percy says looking at you.
"Wait. She kissed you? And you are just telling me now dumbass!" You whisper to him.
"I didn't know how to bring that up and believe me when I say that I'm still trying to believe it." He says while taking napkins out of the drawer.
"...And you two are dating now right?" You ask.
"No.."
"What do you mean no?...You guys kissed and like eachother what more do you need to start dating?" You say taking plastic cups and putting them in the table.
"I don't know..it's just.." He says, don't knowing what to say more.
"Is it because of your new friend Rachel?" You ask.
"What? Why would it be?"
"It's just that you remembered her number after seeing it one time, ...and since you came back from the mission you are either talking about dying, Annabeth or her." You say looking at the sides and eating a bit of a chocolate from the blue cake.
"Hey! That's not true! And stop eating the chocolate! Mom will think it was me." He says blushing.
"Okay, but you three look like a love triangle or something. Like Katniss, Peeta and Gale." You say nodding to yourself.
"Since when did you read the Hunger Games?"
"1 month ago, but that's not the important, the important is that you are in a love triangle." You say laughing.
"I'm not!" He says getting out of the room, heat in his ears.
"Why are you running baby?" You tease but he doesn't respond back and goes to his room.
⋆ ˚。⋆୨☆୧⋆ ˚。⋆
You and Sally were eating the cake while Paul talked with Tyson, his eyes shining while Paul talks about how good at Monopoly he is, Tyson makes a big smile as he hears the compliments leave the other man's mout.
Percy was talking to his father, he looked like a fisherman to you, not the mighty God of the Seas, but you guess that was his human form.. when he saw you he gave you a quick, but genuine smile, while he smiled you thought how much his green eyes represented Percy's, they were certainly family, but he was Tyson's dad too, and Tyson loved him as you saw with his 'Daddy' the moment Poseidon enetred the apartment. You still can't understand why the gods are always having children, don't they have more mighty things to do? Like protect they're land or the Olympus? You couldn't really understand.
You get out of these thoughts when Tyson asks if you want to play Uno, you can't say no right? So you two play.
As you are playing Percy comes back from his conversation with Poseidon, looking happy but at the same time kinda shaken up.
"Are you okay Perc?" You ask, not wanting to know how the hell Poseidon dissapeard, problaly god stuff, and he looks at you and smiles.
"Yeah..it's nothing that I'm not used to." He says and sits.
While he sits Paul calls in the kitchen.
'Problaly to talk about the wedding proposal.' You think.
He already told you that he wants to marry Sally, for you it's all good, he is already the person who takes you to school and you see the way Sally looks at him and he looks at her. You know that Percy is gonna accept it too. Paul is a really cool and swett guy.
You scream Uno while Tyson still has 5 cards and you smile proud of yourself.
After that you hear a knock at the door, Sally goes open it.
As she opens a man in a suit talks to her and after the talk she looks at you.
"Y/N, dear, can you come here?" You nod and come to the door.
Sally passes her arms around you while you look at the man.
"I'm sorry to interrupt but..this is complicated to say..well.. you're biological mother entered in contact with us. She says she wants to take care of you." He tells and both you and Sally look tense.
"But why would she want something with Y/N, she never showed interest in your life until now." Sally asks while looking at you.
You tense up.
"Well, I have a guess.." He sighs. "After Mr. Ugliano death all of his debts passed to her. Maybe taking care of her would be a indirect revenge with the person with the most connections with Mr. Ugliano. That is you, Y/N."
"No, that can't be!" Sally yells alerting the rest of the family that were in the living room (Percy was on is room.)
"I'm sorry Mrs. Jackson but Y/N isn't still legally your child." He says to her and looks at you. "If your mother wants to take your full care of you, she can even go to court."
"She isn't my mother, Sally is, I don't want to see her. Or be with her." You say your eyes starting to go red, Sally hugs you.
"If those adoption files didn't took that long.." She whispers that only the man can hear, he nods.
"Im sorry Mrs. Jackson, the best you can do is go to the court against her, maybe if you win the judges acelarate the adoption process."
Sally smiles to him and nods
"Thank you Sir for alerting us."
"It's nothing Mrs. Jackson, have a rest of a good party." He smiles at you and gets out of the apartment.
"Well looks like I'm going to court." She says as she closes the door and looks at Paul.
"...What?" He asks and while he is explaining you go to Percy's room to explain the situation.
When you open the door Percy is with another boy, who looks like a zombie, and emo, really emo.
"I can come back latter, bye Perc and Perc emo friend." You close the door again and go back to the living room, hearing a laugh after that, problaly Percy's.
Paul tells you that you don't need to worry when you get at the living room.
"When the time comes everything will be solved." He says.
You nod and hug him, he smiles at you.
The rest of the night you all play card games and after some hours Percy comes back from talking with his emo friend, looking again shaken up.
⋆ ˚。⋆୨☆୧⋆ ˚。⋆
All of your family is taking another party from the court win. Your mom didn't even have the conditions to take you in, and even if she had you weren't coming.
In some days Percy is also taking a vacation with is friend Rachel family.
Every time he talked about it to you, you made a knowing look, his love problems were as good as a reality show, you don't even want to know Annabeth face when she finds out. You could laugh with that.
But now not even Percy is thinking about that vacation he is thinking of how much you grew up since he met you, still in the control of Smelly Gabe, and how much more happy you were in these years after taking you with them.
He hugs you. Now that doesn't matter,
you are officialy Y/N Jackson.

Rotisserie Chicken
Suna Rintarou x gn!reader
warnings: none! this is pure fluff wordcount: 1.2k content: fluff, SFW, genderneutral reader, bodypositive and poc friendly reader, domestic fluff, established relationship, post-timeskip, canon compliant, not beta'd, youre married and pretty handy in regards to like. building stuff LMAO, light humor and banter, no use of y/n, i googled rotisserie chicken a thousand times to make sure i spelled it correctly. it looks wrong no matter what i do
notes: this is part four of my domestic life with suna series! i should really make a masterpost actually. anyways, your 10 year old bed that you lovingly bought together at the start of the relationship is creaking; you fix it. suna has his thoughts and secrets are uncovered!
go to part 1, 2, 3 (but can be read as a stand-alone)
Tumblr media
Suna walks into your bedroom with a cold bottle of tea in his hand and his phone in the other, eyeing you for only a moment before throwing himself onto the recliner in the corner. You’ve been forced to take PTO days before they expire and so the recliner, dubbed the Laundry Chair, is actually available to sit on. Suna doesn’t hesitate.
Silently, he lifts his phone to stare into the screen again, making a point out of not commenting on your work. Out of the corner of his eyes, he sees you popping up from behind the bed frame to see if he’s looking at you. When he isn’t, you pop back down and fiddle with the screws. Profanities have been said because your small power drill hasn’t been charged over night like you planned yesterday (you forgot to turn on the outlet itself before joining Suna on the couch for a late night Netflix evening).
He knows that you’re hoping for an offer of his drink but he’s as stubborn as you are; you’re fully capable of asking, he reasons. You grumble out some more words before you turn to the next screw. He bites the bullet, “why, oh, why has the mattress been lifted from my perfectly functioning bed?”
The way your head rises up and your smile beaming has him rolling his eyes already, “I’m just tightening the screws. The creaking is making me insane.”
“Oh?” he says, unscrewing his bottle, “I find the clown bicycle honks kinda hot when you do your half-hourly rotating.”
You narrow your eyes but before you can speak he continues, “I wonder who would’ve been correct in saying that IKEA furniture that’s been disassembled before is shit. Who could’ve saved us the trouble?” He looks to the ceiling and around the room before his eyes lands directly on yours, “that’s right. Me.” he says dryly, challenging you with a raised eyebrow.
You snort before you turn back to your task at hand, the mattress balanced hazardously up against the walk-in closet that’s currently half-open. Not a dangerous thing at all, no, he observes to himself.
After a moment of silence you forego his scolding and ask, “what the hell do you mean half-hourly rotating? Who does that?”
He scrolls social media as he chuckles, "you. You do that. Like a little rotisserie chicken but instead it’s all natural, no electrical wires needed.”
The wide stare you give him is enough to make him crack a smile, eyes still theatrically trained on his screen. “Is that why I’m called rotisserie chicken on your fucking phone!?”
Bingo. Suna sits up straighter with as neutral a smile as possible, stretching his arms above him, “of course. Everyone knows I call you that.”
“Everyone!?” you shriek, completely forgetting about the screws that urgently needed tightening only a few short minutes ago. Suna groans from the stretch, “yeah, my boss ate it up.”
“Your boss? Who, the trainer? The physiotherapist?” you ask with a laugh spilling from your mouth; unbelieving but at the same time awed that Suna talks to someone about you. Those are useless details to share.
“No, the bald guy who sponsors the team. The one who loves hugging you when you stop by practice and matches.”
You make a grimace at the memory. He’s truly a kind, middle-aged man but he is very touchy-feel and while you don’t mind a hug once in a while even from acquaintances, it is shrewd how many he tries to squeeze in there. Then, you shake your head at your husband, “you’re unbelievable you know that, right?”
You pretend to throw the screwdriver in his direction and he mock-dodges to the left and wipes his brow in relief when he successfully avoids the sharp object, “what is unbelievable is the fact that we brought the bed from our first apartment to our house. I feel like we deserve something to go with the rest.”
You grunt as you reach a screw that no matter how much you tighten it, it seems to go loose. You realize it’s not even the same as the others on this metal… thingy. “Rin…” you say and it sounds like a warning. Suna’s muscles tightens for a moment, “why is this screw different from the rest?”
he gulps loudly. He’d forgotten about it; spent so long hoping you’d never notice (or that the bed wouldn’t fall apart underneath you) that it disappeared into the back of his mind. He gets up to take a look as if he can’t imagine the exact screw you’re fiddling with.
“Oh, that one,” he tries to say breezily, hoping casual will be the correct path to take. You look up at him when you realize that he knows something; he shoots a picture of you instead before he continues, “uh, we couldn’t find the screw so Atsumu just put that one in, saying it was the right girth.”
Your eyebrows shoot to your forehead in such a speed that Suna’s sad he didn’t capture it on video, spluttering out incomprehensible sounds that might’ve been words, accidentally spitting on the floor in your vigor. Probably something about different screws having different purposes. Then, you close your eyes and take a deep breath, “and why didn’t you just call for me? I was right downstairs when you and Osamu assembled the bed! Why did Atsumu suddenly help you?”
Suna avoids your gaze by looking pointedly out the window; snow was falling and staying. Winter would be cold this year.
“Suna Rintarou,” you say sharply and a shiver runs up his spine. You enjoy seeing the reaction. He deflates, “you were sitting with my nephew who’d gotten hurt. I didn’t want to… I didn’t want to disturb you.”
You warm at his confession. His nephew had gotten hurt, running around as family and friends were carrying furniture and boxes into the newly bought house; a box he’d been curious about had fallen over him. All it needed was a kiss and a band-aid and he’d been fine, but you had sat with him and sang until he calmed down. You even think you scolded the box together with him.
You shake your head, “well I guess this screw has been holding out. We’ll just continue using it then.”
Suna rolls his eyes, “why don’t we just buy a new bed?” the question makes you laugh, “we have one that works perfectly fine, don’t we? We even upgraded the mattress when you first got on the National team!”
Suna rolls his eyes, “next time the clown bike’s back, I’m buying us a new bed.”
You give him a thumbs up before you crawl out from the frame, “yeah, yeah. Now put the mattress back with me, will you?”
“Sure, Tjiken.” he says with a sly smile. It’s the nickname his niece once started calling you out of nowhere. Your eyes widen and mouth drops open in an ‘o’ shape as you realize.
“Is my cute, familial nickname a child abbreviation of the word chicken!?”
He can’t tell if you find it funny that his whole family’s calling you chicken, or if you’re slightly horrified. Personally, he’s amused that you’re finally learning the truth that’s been common knowledge among his family members.
He can’t wait to start his own family with you someday, hopefully soon. Then, he’d find an equally silly name and teach your child to call you that. His eyes twinkle with excitement at the thought that you might do it back, too.

Hope its okay if I ask about your versions of Florian and Juliana, thanks ^ _ ^
- Are they siblings?
- What are both their personalities?
- Were they actually raised in Paldea? The MC's in the game are implied to originally be from Galar so I was just wondering that
- Which storylines from the game are each the of them the main character of?
I'm so sorry if I've missed out an info sheet on them hhhhghg
Thank u again!
oh, it’s more than okay to ask about them! i actually really like talking about my interpretations of the pokémon characters, but i just struggle to articulate my ideas a lot of the time. or forget to share them. i’ve been meaning to drop lore for these two so i’ll do that now!
Tumblr media
( putting the answers under a cut because i kinda ended up rambling. oops. )
are they siblings?
yes, they are! juliana is the older of the two, but they’re actually super close in age ( with jules not even being a year older than florian. ) because of that, they’re pretty close and sometimes get mistaken for twins. they still bicker and annoy each other like any other typical sibling relationship, but they respect each other a lot and consider each other their greatest confidant. their relationship kinda ends up paralleling carmine and kieran’s own dynamic as siblings, with juliana and florian seeing each other as equals while the same can’t really be said for carmine and kieran.
what are both of their personalities?
while they’re both pretty level-headed, juliana is definitely the more outgoing and confident of the two. florian is more of the reserved type, someone who typically keeps to himself and would much rather wait in the wings than be center stage, ( too bad he’s basically the major protagonist of the story. ) they’re both fairly friendly, but he struggles connecting with others more when compared to his sister. essentially, they’re kinda like a dialed-back version of mabel and dipper pines. florian generally is a very sweet and open-hearted kid who tries to see the best in others, which often leads to his kindness being taken advantage of and getting pushed around easily, ( i.e. carmine convincing him to keep the secret about ogerpon from kieran. ) because of that, juliana is a little protective of him and isn’t afraid to step in when he struggles to stand up for himself. and while she does like to be seen as reliable, that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t encourage florian to be more confident and advocate for himself more. he does end up growing more of a backbone during the timeskip, which makes her very proud. meanwhile, juliana is a lot more outspoken and doesn’t hold back when things need to be called out. she’s still just as compassionate as her brother and is extremely reliable, along with having a very strong moral compass. she definitely fills the cool, reliable older sister role pretty well.
were they actually raised in paldea?
they grew up in galar like what’s implied in canon, but the details are a little different. they’re actually paldean on their mother’s side, who was originally from cabo poco herself. their family decided to move from wyndon back to her hometown after their father lost his job at one of macro cosmos’s now defunct finance subsidiaries. luckily, he was able to land a new desk job in medali and now larry’s his boss. ( the two get along well, they talk about their kids during lunch breaks. )
which storylines from the game are each of them the main character of?
juliana takes on the victory road and starfell street storylines while florian tackles the path of legends and filling out the pokédex, with both of them coming together for the way home. initially, i conceptualized them as co-protagonists and they still kinda are… but florian has definitely taken on the role as primary protagonist with how much shit keeps on just happening to him. i would expand the specifics of how the path of legends plays out for florian and how his friendship with arven develops, but i’ve already rambled enough so i’ll try to talk about that in another post.
hope this answers all your questions and sorry if it's a little long, i've just gotten attached to these kids and have a lot to say about them.
if you have any other questions ( about the paldea kids or mjverse in general, ) please feel free to ask them! it might take me a sec to reply, but i'll try my best!

null and void ' kisaki tetta
cws. 18+ MDNI. gn!reader. canon divergence but also spoilers for bad toman timeskip. reader and chifuyu are friends. kisaki is a lil more ruthless (??) ig. blood and blood fixation. wounds, weapons, death, and violence. toxic relationship themes. no smut but they have a rank ass make out session and reader undresses. 3.2k words.
notes. sighhh kisaki so messed up from his dream girl not returning his feelings. he's killed her and now has no idea how to love anyone sighhh. inspired by the bath scene with venetia and oliver from saltburn
Tumblr media
chifuyu's shoulders rose and fell with heavy breaths, his hands tied behind his back and his legs to the chair. stating how he was is easier said than done. the cuts and bruises on your face and body spoke for themselves in terms of how he got there after he woke up too soon from being unconscious.
his head hangs low, drool mixed with blood dripping next to your shoes, and you stand over him, red spatter tainting your face and clothes in different patterns. your hands bruised and bloody from beating him. you try to relax but the spaces in between your fingers were getting sticky, making you keep them balled.
"matsuno," kisaki speaks. he's standing behind his desk, a fresh glass of bourbon in his hand. "you know it doesn't matter how many more of you there are." he takes a sip. "you're going to die here."
"there aren't—" he spits something out of his mouth, a dark object, a tooth maybe, landing between the hairs of the rug below. "there aren't any more. let takemichi go. just take all he's got and dump him somewhere if you want, he's got nothing to do with this."
you almost forgot takemichi was next to him, quietly passed out through the torture you endured onto chifuyu and bound to his chair the same way.
kisaki sighs heavily, finishing his drink and placing the glass down on a coaster. you turn back to your friend who's managed to raise his head up to meet your gaze, and the look you gave him, wordlessly begging him to tell the truth so the worst that can happen to him is be dumped in some alley, but chifuyu shook his head slowly.
"hanagaki has everything to do with this." kisaki's footsteps travel over the hardwood floor, taking his jacket off halfway and draping it over a chair. he rolls up his sleeves, "you wouldn't understand, matsuno."
chifuyu's breath is ragged. "whatever you have with takemichi, i don't, but baji..."
"still on about that?" kisaki says. "i've had your own friend beat the shit out of you and you still think about baji."
you look at chifuyu apologetically, thinking you could maybe work something out between them. "who's baji?" you let slip. you've known chifuyu for all the years you've worked here but you've never heard of this person before.
kisaki turns to you like he forgot you were even here.
"no one important." he says. "kill him."
to your right, you could hear groans and the three of you turn to the source. takemichi begins waking up from his unconscious state, processing his surroundings and struggling in his restraints.
"takemichi, don't move." chifuyu tells him between ragged breaths.
"what's going on?" takemichi's voice cracks. "did you fucking drug us?"
"jesus christ," kisaki sighs, frustratedly pinching the bridge of his nose as he paces.
"both of you, listen to me," chifuyu urges. "i need you to trust me, okay?" he looks up at you, the one, unbruised eye he has open gleaming. "because the future of toman—"
the corners of his mouth curled subtly but never formed fully into a smile, suddenly interrupted by a quick click and a bang. blood was heavily splattered onto your front and your friend was now lifeless in that chair.
you were frozen, your arm still raised with your gun in hand and your finger wrapped loosely around the trigger. kisaki was in the same position behind chifuyu's chair, his pistol was smoking but his clothes were clean and crisp.
takemichi struggled in his chair, crying out while chifuyu's blood continued to soak into the carpet, the bullet that travelled from his head lodged in the carpet near your feet.
"shut the fuck up!" kisaki yelled, the hilt of his gun clocking takemichi in the back of the head. it didn't knock him out but it was enough to silence him for the moment.
he cried out and whimpered, keeping his head hung low.
"are you serious right now?" kisaki snapped. "is this who you really are, huh?! be a fucking man!"
there's a loud thud after that, kisaki having landed a hard punch to the side of takemichi's head with his other hand.
"you really just won't stop." he shakes the sting off his hand and there's another click. all you can manage to do is watch. "even now after i gave you a place here. you're still your same old, pathetic self. i don't know what she saw in you."
kisaki stands at a distance.
"kisaki—" takemichi looks up at him with tears streaming down his face before the gun fires. his head holds up long enough for you to see his eyes roll back and cross, pupils looking like they're pointing at the bullet hole above the center of his eyebrows.
kisaki sighs, pulling up one of his sleeves. when he turns to you, he finds the end of your pistol aimed at him. he doesn't look phased.
"give me the gun." he calmly commanded, holding his hand out.
you stared him dead in the eye, but it did all but intimidate him. kisaki could easily see through you, that you were scared and confused with all the why-centered questions clogging your head keeping you from thinking logically.
"you killed chifuyu." you said, your voice a little wavered.
"he betrayed us. he betrayed toman."
"no, he didn't!" you yelled, tears streaming down your face as you take a step forward.
kisaki takes a step back in return, his hands raised in the air, one of them still loosely gripping his pistol.
the doors open and hanma and his whole division right behind him burst through. it doesn't take him a second to analyze the situation. he reaches for the gun at his side, but before he can pull it out kisaki calls his name.
"hanma, its fine."
"kisaki, be fucking serious."
"i said its fine." kisaki confirms. "i have this under control."
hanma's whole team looks skeptical, murmuring amongst each other.
"stay outside."
hanma glances from kisaki, who gives him a reassuring look, to you before withdrawing his weapon and nodding for his men to exit the room. once the doors close, your focus is back to him.
"don't think i'm not going to kill you." you say, both of your hands now grasping your weapon firmly.
"you're not," he says, confident. "but i'm not going to kill you either."
kisaki bends down slowly, never once breaking eye contact as he places his pistol on the floor and kicking it out of reach before standing back up.
his palms are raised, the silver shine from his rings reflecting. "what matsuno was upset for is between me, him, and the founders. it's a simple past misunderstanding he took too far."
"no, i know chifuyu. he wouldn't do this over something simple." you said.
"you don't know him like i do. we aren't close, but i've known him since we were fifteen." kisaki starts. "baji was a friend of ours, formerly a toman founder but he switched sides. there was a fight between us and his gang a few years ago and he died."
you body tenses when you see kisaki move a step forward, your trigger finger twitching.
"he was stabbed by the person he betrayed toman for."
"that still doesn't explain why chifuyu was out for you."
"i'm getting to it," he pauses. "it was because i joined toman around the same time and became a captain. chifuyu must've thought i had something to do with baji leaving, and if baji hadn't left, he wouldn't have died."
"you expect me to believe it was all because of some years long grudge?"
"i don't, but it's the truth. ask hanma. ask anyone when this is all over."
you didn't believe it, but maybe this really was something beyond your knowledge. kisaki was right on one hand, you didn't know chifuyu like he did. you didn't know much about toman's past at all.
you could feel your strength wavering, a layer of gloss forming over your eyes. the presence of their dead bodies was starting to get to you. you didn't know anything at all but you knew you didn't want to come this close to killing them and watching them die.
"give me the gun, y/n." kisaki says one last time, his voice calm like the first.
you lower your arms and kisaki safely pulls the gun from your hands. his free arm wrapping around you and pulling you in close, the blood from your clothes now staining his.
"we'll share this and put it behind us." he tells you, rubbing your back in circles while your body tries to relax.
you don't have much collection of what happened after that. your mind was too exhausted and confused working itself into overtime to make sense of the situation when too many pieces were missing.
part of you didn't want to think about it, that you just needed to make peace with the fact chifuyu, takemichi, and the possibly others were trying to do something beyond your understanding. that was the conclusion your brain wired into thinking as kisaki stroked your hair in the car.
he booked you a room, something he thought you should rest in. on the way, you both and hanma, who had driven you here, had to sneak in through the back entrance, evading any civilians due to your bloody clothes.
you were clearly out of it, so mentally exhausted that kisaki had to hold onto you to keep you from falling over. the entire time you were anxious of him minding having to tend to your pathetic state, but every time you looked up at him and every time he helped you adjust, there was always a hint of concern. and strangely, there was security in the way he held you.
there wasn't much spoken between you, kisaki, and hanma when you get to the room, kisaki just leads you to the bath, letting you absentmindedly stand there while the turns the faucet to let the water run.
then there were two knocks at the door. in the way kisaki reacts, hanma likely needed to say his piece on this in private.
"just undress and step in. get yourself clean." kisaki says to you before he steps out.
you peer over your shoulder, watching him leave the hotel room with hanma who gives you a look of disdain. you look down at your hands that were smeared bloody and you don't think they'll come back.
undressing, your fingers fumble over taking off your garments. when you step into the bath, your teeth seethe from the heat of the water touching your skin, carefully lowering yourself until you've submerged deep enough to reach your shoulders.
you stare at the running faucet, wondering what's going to become of you after you leave this room even if it was some kind gesture from kisaki.
he'll definitely kill you. maybe he'll do it here, drown you in the tub or suffocate you with a pillow. there were too many ways to die and not many where you could fight back and live.
you sigh to yourself and stretch your foot over, turning the faucet knob the other way to stop the water flow. before sinking into the water deeper, all you could think of were kisaki's motives.
"we'll share this and put it behind us."
internally, you just denied it. it was sweet in the moment, a tactic he likely used to get you to calm down.
was he like this with everyone? admittedly, while you sank completely into the bath, that made you a little frustrated. but he killed chifuyu so easily, then takemichi after that, and no doubt many more himself without your knowledge or help.
you've fully submerged yourself under, the blood from your body dissolving into the water while your fingers fidgeted to get the stickiness off.
you closed your eyes, trying to stay still and let the nervous aches in your joints disappear, but the images of chifuyu and takemichi dead in their chairs were still so clear, and above all you can still feel kisaki's touch. his voice from the past few minutes playing clearer than chifuyu's last words.
a hand grips your shoulder, pulling you up with urgency. it startles you, making you jolt up out of the bath. you gasp when you resurface, some water spilling out of the tub.
"what the hell were you doing?" kisaki exclaimed, staggering back to not get wet.
you took in heavy breaths, slicking your hair back out of your face not really knowing how long you were under.
"thought you were trying to drown yourself," he scoffed, adjusting the roll of his sleeves. he picks something up off the side, a wash cloth, and dips it into the bath water. "come here."
he grabs your chin, not giving you time to comply.
you didn't feel like speaking to him and you tried not to meet his gaze, glancing from here and there while you kept everything below your shoulders underneath the water, preventing him from seeing something he shouldn't. you notice he's changed into some cleaner clothes now, his shirt back to being a crisp white color.
he tilts your head up unexpectedly, making you meet his gaze.
it was a first, but kisaki's gaze softened as he let go of you, moving his attention from your eyes to your lips. you saw his brows lessen in their furrow, the placement of his hand now shifting so his thumb grazes the edge of your lip, feeling at the scabbed over cut.
he pulls at your lip, reopening the wound and pressing down. it makes you wince, the dryness of your lips making the sudden pry worse but kisaki doesn't give you room to think. he kisses at the wound first, your mouth still slightly ajar, then the warmth of his tongue laps over it.
the saliva in your open wound stings enough to make you seethe, his kiss crashing rather than landing.
though you try and push him away, your hands clasped around his wrists, you don't give in enough energy to fully fight back. you try to breathe but its like he's consuming you, trapping you in this strange force that makes you want him to keep going. it makes you hope that somewhere in between all this he'll kiss you properly, comfort you through this trauma.
but he was still being rough, you could feel his teeth gnash on yours and graze your lips. he moves his kisses back to the side where he opened your wound, suddenly biting down on it.
now you really pull away, fight or flight kicking in because something in your chest drops when his teeth sink into you, but its like he's got you in his grasp again in the same second. with one hand, kisaki has you by the cheeks, forcing you to look up at him again. then with the other, he gently moves your hair out of your face.
the water in the tub splashes quietly as blood slowly leaks from your lip, a single droplet making its way down your face, over kisaki's hand, and into the water.
"matsuno," your body tenses at the name. "what he was doing was putting everyone in danger."
his thumb stretches to rub along your jawline. you breathed from your mouth, sick of the mix of iron in your nose. you needed a little more air from how much your heart was pumping. he stopped when you swallowed the welled up lump in your throat.
his hand moves to cup your cheek and you notice his eyes were a gunmetal type of icy blue. it felt wrong staring into them with the warmth of his palm on your skin.
"i hope you understand what i had to do, because he could've killed you too." both his hands now cupped your cheeks, his thumbs rubbing over them gently.
"but you're mine," he says. "and you will always be mine as long as you live."
those words could be endearing, but they came from kisaki—wicked and sinful kisaki—who made you his favorite thing in the world.
you're mine? you think.
mine like an object, you think. mine like you were under him, in a way different from even hanma who's been around since the creation of toman.
despite all the wrongs, you felt protected being called mine.
he leans down and you squeeze your eyes shut, wincing as his tongue licks the trail of blood from your chin to the corner of your lip. his mouth is now just centimeters away with your lips just brushing over each other, and he can feel your slight panting.
something boiled inside him thinking of all that anxiousness you're still trying to hide from him. he's never touched you like this before, kisaki hasn't even though about it, but now you're naked, washed, and touched so graciously by his hands.
and now, kisaki thought—no, he knew he deserved everything that had to do with you. he felt like he saved you from some unsure, impending doom by recruiting you and keeping you by his side, making you fill that lonely, voided hole left inside him.
and god help you. it felt so good to be needed by him.
you press your lips to his, your hands moving up his arms to hold onto his shoulders, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss. he grasps the edge of the tub for stability, not wanting to fall into the water with you.
you push your tongue into his mouth, every now and then lapping at his bottom lip. the kiss gets more fervent and its hard to keep yourself stable kneeling in the ceramic.
water from your body is soaking into his shirt. your chest nearly presses to his as you cup his face. one hand moves to the back of his head, the stubble of his shave pokes uncomfortably into your palm but you push him into you further, your tongue now lapped over his.
it feels like he forces himself to pull away, taking in a gasp of air as you loosen your grip on him. you're both shallowly panting and kisaki keeps himself still to catch his breath, all while you're eagerly waiting for more with closed eyes, impatiently inching back closer to him but the warmth of his body near you slowly leaves.
you raise yourself out of the bath to chase after it but he's out of reach now, standing at the sink to dry his hands with a towel, even patting down the shoulders and areas of his white button up that were soaked translucent from where your body touched.
"there are clean clothes for you on the bed." kisaki says. "spend the night here. have a warm meal while you're at it."
"you're not staying?" you say, monotone but expectant in some way.
he straps his watch back on his wrist, glancing at the time before he slides his rings back over his fingers. "i'll see you tomorrow."
when he leaves, he doesn't close the bathroom door. you watch him take his jacket, vest, and tie off the bed and walk out the hotel room door. the lock clicks shut and everything just falls silent. not once did he look back at you.
you sink back into the tub to get warm, but the water's lost its heat. you could only curl up, hugging your legs close to your chest and taking that much needed sigh of air.

MMSS: Silver Darts
Sorry it's taking me one million years to get out the next canon chapter of MMSS! I promise it's coming :) In the meantime, I wrote this little one-shot/drabble.
This takes place during the timeskip in chapter 6S/6M
Story masterpost
Warnings: Torture, nonconsensual bondage, gag/muzzle, poison/burning
“Nick, are you really sure there isn’t some other way to test this?  This….don’t feel right.”
Jerome had been the one who’d spoken, but it was currently Bailey who was looking down the rifle sight at the vampire chained to the tree across the yard.  In the crosshairs, he could see the vampire’s terrified face, tears streaming down its cheeks through the muzzle and dripping off its chin.
“Would you like to test this out mid-combat, Jerome?” was Nick’s answer.  “With a real live vampire that will kill you or worse if it doesn’t work?”
Jerome shuffled his feet awkwardly.  “Well, no, but-”
“Then I suggest you keep quiet and let me run the experiments.  Bailey, you may fire when ready.”
Bailey’s hands were clammy on the rifle stock.  The vampire was sobbing so loudly it could be heard even across the distance.
He got up.  “I can’t do it.”  He walked over to Jerome, head hanging.  “It don’t feel right.”
Nick rolled his eyes and picked up the rifle, bracing it against his shoulder.  “Fine, then.”
“It’s all right, man,” Jerome said softly to Bailey, taking his hand.
“I know he deserves it, but it feels bad,” Bailey said.  He couldn’t look down range at the victim chained to the tree, desperately clawing at the silver chains keeping him immobilized, trying to call out for help.  “Like, I know it’s for the greater good, but it still feels bad.”
“That means you have a heart, man.”
There was a pop as the rifle fired a dart, which landed squarely in the vampire’s shoulder.
Valen’s entire body went rigid and he screamed, an unearthly shrieking that seemed to vibrate the ground even muffled as it was by the muzzle.
“You two needn’t trouble yourself about it,” Nick says casually, writing something down in his notebook.  “Vampires don’t feel pain the same way we do.  They have no need for it, since their healing factor means their body is less vulnerable to damage, and pain is just the body’s signals to the brain to avert damage.”
Well, there was certainly no way to avoid the damage being done to him.  He tugged wildly at the chains on his arms and legs, raking his claws into the tree, teeth cracking with the force of him biting the bit from clenching his jaw.  Foam dripped out of his mouth and down his chin, eyes wheeling around wildly, a cacophony of growls and pleading, desperate sounds falling from his mouth.
Nick leaned the rifle on the ground, checking his watch.  “So, by my estimation, this one will take three hours to wear off.  We’ll have to wait until nightfall to cart it back to the lab anyway, but we have to test different distances, so I think we can spend the week repeating this until we establish the effective range.”
“This is fucked, man,” Bailey said.
“Bailey,” Nick said tersely.  “This will have a longer range than crossbows, and also the ability to incapacitate non-lethally.  Doesn’t that sound like an incredibly effective tool to-”
“F-fuck you,” Jerome said.  “Man.  I’m not hanging around watching this anymore.”  He turned around and started to walk off.
Nick sneered at his back.  “That-”
“You are not,” Bailey interrupted hotly, recognizing the tone, “about to call my boyfriend a slur.”
Nick stood there in stormy silence.
“What the fuck ever,” Bailey said, waving to Nick dismissively as he turned to follow.  “Count me out.”
That left Nick standing there with the rifle, while Valen squirmed and moaned in the background.  “Technically this is breaking the rules,” he calls after them.
Neither of them responded.
Nick shrugged and turned back to face the tree, where his victim was still twitching, eyes bloodshot.  “I guess it’s just us for now, then.”

Me over here in my corner thinking about YJDW, and how absolutely ironically sad it would be if after all the huffing and puffing about ghosts and all the hell he gave Danny, that Wally himself came back as a ghost post-Endgame and only Danny could see and talk to him.
I need to rewatch the OG show again but for a happier alternative, what if Danny saved Wally from his original fate?
(Young Justice: Deathly Weapons)
It seems my primary creative contribution to fandom has been the creation of a bespoke, artisanal brain-corner in which people are compelled to sit and think about DW 😅.  It’s nice to know that, while I may have sunk-cost-fallacy-ed myself into this hole, the rest of you are having fun climbing into it with me.
As for an Endgame!AU, that’s kind of complicated by DW’s… let’s say fraught relationship with canon.  I really like YJ Season 1, but as everyone and their dog has been unable to escape me telling them I think lead-showrunner Greg Weisman is an appallingly bad storyteller (in fact I think he writes like a cowardly, exploitative incel) and under his “creative control” the later entries became an infuriating mess.  Back when there were only two seasons in the mainline canon I used to cut Invasion a lot more slack – allowing it to coast on the uninformed and incorrect assumption that both entries came from the same creative team, and that the seeming disjointedness of Invasion’s narrative was the result of executive meddling or troubled production at a time when a lot of Cartoon Network’s PG animated shows were infamously being put through hell by the network.
However, after the disappointment of the “revival” I did a little bit more looking into things and realised that what I actually liked was the output of Season 1’s distinct production team – a team which included heavy input from experienced DC creatives like lead-directors Jay Oliva and Michael Chang (previously credited on the Teen Titans 2004 series, which was also praised for good character-storytelling).  It became clear to me that there were actually two separate products:  Season 1 (plus a couple of early tie-in comics by non-Weisman writers)… and everything else.  Turns out that dropping your primary directors results in a directionless story, whodathunk?
Once I took off those rose-coloured glasses, I ran into the problem that it’s actually not possible to get from Season 1 to Invasion without fundamentally breaking the narrative in really unpleasant ways.   Deathly Weapons has since become fully canon-divergent from that break-point.  I want to pay respects to the arcs, themes and characterisation of the Oliva-Chang Season, which means Invasion wouldn’t reasonably happen in the DW!Verse.  Ergo, no timeskips, no character-assassinations, and Wally never gets randomly knifed to “subvert the expectations” of viewers who might be familiar with a prominent Flash-storyline from another unconnected continuity.  I’m not kidding: that is why Endgame ended the way it did, this is what Greg and Brandon think storytelling is, their opinions should not be trusted.
So in a way I guess that problem kind of solved itself.
Tumblr media
But that’s not very satisfying, is it?
Looking back at my brainstorming notes from the before-times (when DW was planned with the loose possibility of connecting back into later canon), I had a post-Endgame future-fic idea which focussed more on Dick.  The idea was for Dick to end up at Danny’s apartment while trying to cope with losing Wally.  Once there I had a scene where he wanders aimlessly while Danny is out dealing with some unavoidable adult-life stuff, leading him to find some old photos of Tucker.  The main scene was going to be Dick having a “conversation” with Tucker’s (metaphorical) spirit - speaking to the memory of his foster-brother’s late best friend about his own now-gone best friend, and asking Tucker to look out for Wally wherever they might be now.
I suppose that’s more where my style of angst lands for grief/death arcs.  I like to focus on death arcs as a reflection of the character’s life – the specifics of their personality, the distinct impression their presence left on the people around them and how the unique hole they occupied aches without them.  I’ve mentioned this before in the Jason-ask but my general thesis is that we are haunted by absences more than presences; we project ghosts in attempt to fill the hole(s) left when someone abruptly vanishes from our lives.
Because of that I tend to have very different story approaches for metaphorical ghosts (which explore the internal struggles of living characters coping with a loss) vs literal ghosts (actual tangible creatures who represent an external struggle).  I know it sounds kind of ironic considering that I killed off about 70% of the core Danny Phantom cast for Deathly Weapons, but when I kill a character it’s usually so I can do a retrospective on the value of their life.  So long as they’re mourned well, I don’t personally feel a need to bring most “dead” characters back.
That said, there is a lot of potential angst that could come from someone “becoming a ghost” with the way I’ve been headcanoning it to work in Deathly Weapons.  In Chapter 16, Phantom mentions that ectoplasmic ghosts are formed when the impression of a dying person’s consciousness is preserved in ectoplasm and gives rise to a new entity.  In a best-case scenario you get a complete translation of the same person to a new bio-medium, but in other cases you might get an incomplete or warped impression – missing some pieces and exaggerating others, like a reflection in a funhouse mirror.  This is how I like to explain the humanoid DP ghosts being so gimmicky and single-minded: they’re a flanderization built from only the strongest parts of their living personality at the moment of death.  It’s also one of the reasons why Phantom and the others don’t rush to “well, they might be a ghost now” as an easy solution to characters dying or being presumed-dead.  Sure, that character might not be entirely gone… but would the pieces that remain actually be them?
It’s a style of horror that isn’t especially my bag, but I think there’s a lot of potential angst mileage in that specific brand of “came back wrong” – leaving a ghost that is uncannily like you but is missing the specific memories or details needed to actually make you you.  A familiar stranger – unable to be the person they were, having no say or fault in being what they are, but who everyone has to deal with anyway (especially if they retain enough memories to understand that they know you).
That said, there would be no situation in which Wally came back as complete ghost where he wouldn’t be completely pissy about it.  Just, the indignity of it all, really.
Still, I think it’s worth considering that, while Wally is certainly giving Danny hell with where he is in the story right now (Mission 1 of Arc II at the time of this post), in any five-years-later post-DW scenario the two of them would be a lot more chill with each other.
While some of the YJ cast have ended up with relatively static planned personal arcs throughout DW (for clarity, a static arc is where a character doesn’t experience substantial personal change across a story – they may receive elaboration into their personality, history and/or develop new relationships with others but by the end they are still mostly the same person) I hope people can trust that Wally isn’t one of them.  Him acting like a sulky, stinky jerkass right now isn’t because I’m planning on having him be The Sulky Stinky Jerkass™ for the entire story, but because he’s at the start of his major personal arc.  His flaws are on full display at the moment because he’s going to have to confront those flaws, how they hurt him and others, and make the decision on whether (and how) to be better.
The loose timeline for DW’s planned story is that the main arc (right now comprising 11 planned missions) takes place over 6-ish months from the point where Phantom first joins the Team.  Wally’s personal arc is planned to be part of that.  Add an additional 4-and-a-half years on top of that and they would have had a lot of time to let the water settle under the bridge.
With that being said, we’re heading into the stormiest parts of the water at the moment.  The interpersonal angst is going to get much worse before it gets better.  Not somebody-dies level, but some people are going to hurt each other quite badly before the resolution and a LOT of yelling is going to happen.
Here’s a teaser for one of the worst lines :
“Better that than some green-wood who gets people hurt because he wanted to play hero!”
Yeah, things are going to get mean.  It may be a different flavour than some expected but I am nonetheless intending to serve 4 chapters of angst, and more than one of the boys is going to get served a lot of crow to eat over that mess.

had some mattfoggy thoughts today
imagine like a timeskip, five or so years. matt is getting old. he’s already relatively old to be daredevil-ing in the show, but now it’s only gotten worse. especially after midland circle, his body just can’t do what it used to. some mornings it’s so bad he literally can only lay in bed for hours until his muscles are warmed up at least a little. this of course gets to him. everything hurts all the time and it makes it harder to do what he values. this of course makes him upset and guilty.
foggy and him are in a committed relationship, and matt likes to suffer in silence, but some days it’s so bad that it’s impossible for foggy not to notice his huge limp or the way he bumps into things because his hearing got messed up again when he took a hit to the head.
foggy is so loving and gentle with him.i love me some hurt/comfort and need it to survive on a daily basis.
okay so uh matt's really not that old in show canon (pretty sure he's only like early 30's) so i made the timeskip... longer than that lol. i kinda used this as an excuse to stretch my prose muscles so it's pretty short and not super plot-y. hope you like it, it was a blast to write!
880, T, warnings: mentions of blood, canon-typical violence
It’s an ache that never quite goes away. Day in, day out, legs, back, shoulder, hip. His body is more scar than skin, and Foggy’s fingertips catch and stumble as they roam across it. He still puts on the mask after twenty years and he feels more like an actor than a boxer. Sometimes his voice gets stuck in that rhythm, that cadence, that range that makes the Kitchen’s underbelly shiver.
He tells them, “Stay out of my city”. He tells them, “Leave her alone”. He tells them, “Go ahead, try and land a punch”.
He tells them, “Please land a punch. Then land another and another. Harder, please, harder, give me an excuse to go home, I’m tired.”
Foggy sighs the same he always does, heavy and weary and so sad for Matt. He knows just how many times the cartilage and bone in Matt’s nose has splintered and cracked, can see it in the slight bend in the bridge of it that will never leave Matt’s face. He kisses Matt’s knuckles, red and raw, kisses Matt’s hair, sweat-soaked and uncombed, kisses Matt’s lips, split and stinging and still curled into the sneer he can’t quite shake after such a long night out.
There are nights so bad that he doesn’t even bother going to work the next day. His thighs still burn and his ribs throb hungrily and the pounding in his head is only exacerbated each time someone slams a door half a mile away. Foggy has to whisper those days, skips his cologne and forgoes his coffee. Every beat of Foggy’s heart is a pounding drum in Matt’s ears and he has to lay on the bed naked because the feeling of clothes brushing against his skin feels like road rash.
There’s the reverse, too, when someone fires their handgun too close to Matt’s ear, or hits his head with their aluminum baseball bat one too many times, and Matt has to stumble home in a daze. He can only tell where he’s going by following the scent of Foggy’s shampoo and only knows what’s in front of him by the vibrations that ripple out of his footsteps. Foggy will break out the extra-strength acetaminophen and guide Matt bodily to the bedroom; he can’t communicate with the words that Matt won’t hear.
He won’t ask, “are you okay?” on those nights, just drop two pills into Matt’s hand and hope he understands. He won’t say, “you scared me” on those nights, just let Matt smell the salt in the air as he starts to cry. He won’t say, “I love you” on those nights, just lift up Matt’s left hand and kiss the silver ring on the third finger.
He knows Matt understands that one.
Karen keeps a supply of full-coverage makeup at the office for days when Matt can’t avoid going to court with a face that’s colored in shades of yellow and green and purple. She taps the makeup sponge onto his face as gently as she can, but each time she makes contact, Matt still winces. She sees Foggy’s face on the days when Matt saves the day, and on the days when he’s the one that needs saving. They’ll both find extra excuses to touch each other on those bad days, letting their kisses and hands linger on each other for a moment longer than is strictly necessary, just because they need the reminder that the other one’s still breathing.
She hates herself for it, but on those days she thinks, I dodged a bullet. At least it won’t be me who’s widowed when Matt finally loses one drop of blood too many.
So the ache never quite goes away for any of them. Karen’s conscience aches and Foggy’s heart aches and Matt’s head aches and Matt’s chest aches and Matt’s hip aches and Matt’s back aches and Matt aches and aches and aches.
Matt crawls through the window in January, a few days after his fifty-third birthday, and he can feel his blood pooling under the skin on his back where the crowbar hit him. Foggy meets him at the bottom of the stairs and asks how the night went. His voice has gotten deeper with age and his steps are so much more tired. Matt himself is no spring chicken, but Foggy tells him that the gray hairs at his temples and jaw and the thin lines that criss-cross his face only make him that much more handsome.
Matt winces as Foggy rubs the arnica cream into the blooming bruise on his back, and Foggy doesn’t bother apologizing for it after all these years; Matt knows that Foggy’s sorry, and Foggy knows that Matt’s not. He straightens his back as much as he can as Foggy examines his face, and the air between them is still, waiting to be filled with whispers or tears or shouting or some combination thereof.
Foggy strokes Matt’s face, sees the dark circles beneath his tired eyes, and he knows that it’s now, knows that this time he might finally get through the Devil and reach the man. He rubs a thumb over Matt’s cheek, and Matt smiles like he’s breaking.
“Come home,” Foggy says, and Matt just closes his eyes, nods, and aches.

They’re gonna use byler in s5 to help bring Will and Mike to their lowest points.
Let me explain
First, let’s look at Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey cycle, one of the most well known story structures in western canon.
Tumblr media
The lowest point on the chart, the Abyss, is where the hero reaches their lowest point. In Homer’s Odyssey, the Abyss is characterized as the part in the story where Odysseus quite literally travels to the land of the dead.
An important part of the Abyss, however, is Rebirth. For a hero to be able to reach their full potential, they need to first go through their lowest point.
We see this in season 4 with El and the Nina Project. El is able to gain her powers back and is now stronger than ever, but she had to go through hell first to get there.
At this point, Will has mostly accepted that him and Mike will not be together. He’s probably been spending most of season 3 working through this. And if we are reading at a purely surface level, Mike and El are back together and supposedly in love and happy. So how do we get these two to their lowest point from here? For Will, we could go through the proposed scenario that he confesses to Mike and Mike politely rejects him, but how exactly would that bring him to a low point if he is already anticipating this? With Mike, you could have El dump him midseason and then he gets back with her at the end, but wouldn’t this feel repetitive? Have they not already done this in the last two seasons?
Granted there are a few different ways that they could go about this, but I wanna propose this:
El and Mike break up early season, maybe even end of the first episode. After the timeskip, we establish that Will and Mike have grown closer. They are both beginning to realize that maybe the other person feels the same way that they day. Then, midseason, we get an affirmation. There is a mutual confession (kiss?) that happens, and they are both extremely happy that after all this time of waiting it was reciprocated.
And then, through some kind of circumstance, maybe something Vecna related, maybe some kind of miscommunication, they are split apart. Maybe there’s a rejection from one or both sides, which sends both of them into a spiral. However, from here, we can have the big coming together at the end which will give them the strength to defeat Vecna, or something along those lines.
I mean, what is a more compelling story that follows the flow of the Hero’s Journey? A repetitive plotline that feels anticlimactic, or something fresh that pushes these characters to their lowest lows and also their highest highs? But that’s just my two cents.

While everyone is looking at homestuck stuff today might as well get a shoutout for my currently unnamed music au featuring pitch vriskezi
(under the cut this time is only au stuff! Noone is gonna ask so might as well get the rant out now)
It’s basically a meteorstuck kinda au? Except I decided to say fuck it all the trolls are alive (mostly because I have a few songs in my playlist that are very much feferi<>sollox vibe and I kinda need them alive to be able to sing yknow)
So uh. Trolls are kinda bug-like. And they communicate with words, yes, but also with dancing, like bees? A lot of body language, especially when it comes to your quadrants; leaning on your moirail’s shoulder, grabbing your kismesis’ wrist to stop them from turning away from you... and also just actual dancing and stuff. So, trolls dance. But then Dave and Rose get on the meteor and teach them about how humans communicate. With music.
Cuz like, in the au, humans can get on the same wavelength as other humans via song. Singing is a way a human shows how they feel or think about anything at any given moment. You gotta learn the lyrics (unlike my other music au, which is also a magic au where the lyrics are chosen for you by fate gods aka me specifically and you dont gotta know the lyrics before singing) but like its sorta a bonding thing? and humans are social creatures so they gotta sing every once in a while or they get sadge
so the kids teach the trolls how to sing and thats all really fun and cool and whatever. meanwhile I’ve fallen prey to karkezi flushed propaganda via fanfiction so now Im sitting in the “what if dave and terezi moirails” because they’re my favorite beta kid&troll and the dynamic they have in canon makes my insides fluffy in the way a good moirallegiance gotta get outta you yknow.
Anyways timeskip to after they win Im very much ignoring how by that point both sessions were lost and I decided both of the groups win and like the humans make a new earth ig and like they still have their godtier stuff (at this point Im just picking and choosing what I want based on random music from my 600 songs playlist being put on shuffle). and uh. Well dave becomes a film person (I wanted to say director but also he writes the movies so also scriptwriter and just. he makes movies). And decides to make actual homestuck’s plot into a 12 movies and ongoing film franchise that is basically as well known as like. star wars or whatever. but bigger bc I never actually watched star wars so I only know about it the basic stuff a person who once dated someone who watched all the star wars movies enough times to quote them offhandedly would.
anyways dave is stuck with the part where the trolls get actually introduced to the audience in non-text form and is like “can I convince a bunch of actors to dye themselves grey and put candycorn looking horns on their heads without anyone thinking Ive lost it” when actual trolls (all 12 beta trolls+a bunch of friendsim trolls I thought would be fun to put in+unnamed background trolls for the confusion of wtf is sgrub) land a ship in the middle of area 51 and immediately get cornered by human guards patrolling the area in case aliens ever crashed there.
Anyways is now a good time to mention rose grew up to become the person who runs area 51 because she is and apparently at some point during the 3 years on the meteor she pulled like feferi and karkat aside to go “yo so when we win the games if yall wanna stop by earth 2.0 Imma go run our alien communication center so just ask the people there for rose lalonde yea” and uhh. they do. the other trolls in the background are Confusion over who tf this rose lalonde person is. the human guards are confused abt how tf the aliens know the full name of their leader bc usually the aliens just go “we want to speak to ur manager” or whatever so one of them takes their walkie talkie and talks to her and rose is like “oh hey they made it btw is one of them wearing green and looks like a vampire tell her I love her” to which kanaya fckn melts ig. soft gfs.
and uhh. well at this point except rose all the other beta kids can kinda teleport? Jade is still part-dog, john is wimdy, dave stops time and powerwalks over then unpauses time... rose just calls her limo like “dude I gotta get to this specific part of the desert plz” and by then dave is having a passionate debate with the guards about how trolls are actually awesome and the guard is like “they havent sang anything to make me think theyre intelligent species” or whatever and then the 12 main trolls do like. choreographed dancing with rainbow colors and stuff to various feel-good songs in my playlist. And then dave starts live streaming with scifi tech he alchemized during the game that he kept around like “yo ik theres rumors abt the trolls showing up for the next movie can we all give it up to my moirail and the rest of these lovely folk” to which the internet immediately implodes bc imagine fckn. idk. big time movie producer just starting a livestream in which he casually talks to a bunch of aliens while his half-dog bestie is floating the in background.
yeah and then the protagonist of friendsim sees that happening and goes to talk to the friendsim trolls who are there and thats fun and idk
dave is really good at assigning trolls random songs they should like. my playlist is almost entirely clown cult music its all violence and bright colors and yelling into the void and starting a revolution over the fact you suck at video games.
also the alpha kids are there. because dirk strider is my favorite homestuck character I want to dunk him in my tea like he’s a sad animal biscuit. he also gets a song where he and hal are being passive aggressive and sad about prince of heart stuff ig

ina11 x blue lock idea dump bc they've been rotating in my head for too long
real madrid!og!hiroto & sae.
SO LITTLE is known about hiroto he's practically an oc (free real estate babey)
also he died still.
or not! :D
idk hiroto's death could in some way push sae to fix his relationship with rin or something. this route feels too sad esp because i always think of hiroto's death happening RIGHT after sae lost the match against blue lock. like he turned off his phone on his flight back to spain and once he landed it's just all over the news.
i love it.
or: real madrid!yuuichi & sae.
how is it that it's all revolving around people w siblings ties as their main plot points
anri/hitomiko. i like to think of this pair taking set in areori universe timeskip (the kids are in highschool), so areori!kira most probably was recruited into the project as well, and it's when anri went scouting at eisei that they first met
girlbosses with ambitions and severe work-life balance problems and anri is so depraved of validation while hitomiko is so bad at communication so there are SO many things that could go wrong <3
kira finding out his sister is dating the project manager:
also going with blue lock!areori!kira. shidou&kira. they've known each other since kira's delinquent days
often crashing at shidou's place (he lives downtown so closer to his gang activities) (also he'd rather not go back home)
shidou isn't part of his or any other gang but he found him play football somewhere somehow and kira's skill being honed by playing alone interested shidou (who more or less did the same so it's always about who could do [some tricks] best) while shidou pissed kira off so much he would always accept his challenges out of sheer spite
also shidou wanting to play with kira for the sake of it, because he loves football and with no ulterior motives (like winning the nationals like kiyama LOL (ik that was a miscommunication but STILL AJDKA)), affirming kira's wish to have a sincere companion. yeah!
areori!kira&reo. rich people with SEVERE parental issues! (which sanrio merches both collabbed with kuromi!)
actually they need a separate post they are *THE* rotisserie chicken in my brain
or: og!kira&reo where kira plays in real madrid and reo admired him so much for being able to break off of the future his family had laid out for him
blue lock!haizaki also
haihiro skill-wise just SO would survive bllk.
canon!kira basically speedran through blue lock's first selection in the two episodes he played in lol
HAIZAKI&SHIDOU DEVILS OF THE FIELD COMBO 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝
canon!haizaki is a freak and shidou is an EVEN BIGGER FREAK
haizaki and shidou having the same title n kira's hissatsu being the explosion and shidou's obsession with the explosion whatever that is. there's something in there.
praying for whoever went up against these three in third selection arc
no gouenji. too much of a legend for a project like this i couldn't imagine him being in blue lock ever
debating on blue lock!aphrodi also but the sheer power of chigiri&aphrodi won, people.
blue lock!resistance japan BC THESE KIDS HAD BEEN THROUGH IT YK.
like if you survived god eden and fifth sector's training regime OF COURSE you'd survive blue lock.
also: ego consulted with kageyama (international fugitive) and kudou (coach with dubious (?) past and methods) for the program.
mizukamiya/aiku, for whatever reason.

🖊!!
Wah okay!!
So the character I'll be talking about is Snow Strike! I'm just gonna dump a load of fun facts bahaha- this'll be long but I'll include summaries at the end! I'll link her TH too
Initial Character Creation Snow was originally a Warriors OC by the name of Snowstrike, who I made on Scratch when I was like 8 or 9. She was my fourth warrior cat OC, intended to be my sona! You see, while Swiftpelt was a good cat, there was no personality to him at all! When I made Nightfur to replace him, an all-black cat, her name was way too bland. Then I made Frostfire, but she was too violent and didn't represent me at all!
I asked myself, "Okay. What type of name is cool?" and the first name that appeared was Hawkfrost. So, clearly, I'd like something similar. ThunderClan was my favourite clan, too.. so, how about I made a cat that could control lightning and thunder? I couldn't outright name her "lightning" or "thunder" since lightning was too long and thunder was the clan name. The solution? Her suffix would be "strike", like a lightning strike! As for her prefix, it needed to be something that was similar to 'white'. Whitestrike was boring, afterall. Eventually, I landed on Snowstrike!
Because she was the embodiment of thunder, she clearly needed the personality to match. This lead to her base traits of being rambunctious, but extremely loyal to her clan!
I believe she was subconsciously based off of Rainbow Dash, since the time I liked Warriors was directly after I liked MLP.
TL;DR I was making my Warriors fursona when I was 8 and decided an electric cat named Snowstrike that behaved like Rainbow Dash was perfect.
Warrior Cat Story - Snowstrike's Tale You won't be able to find it anywhere because I took it off of the face of the internet, but Snowstrike's Tale was the first Warriors story I ever wrote. And of course, it featured Snow!
The gist of it?
Snowkit is a mischievous kitten born in EmberClan (ThunderClan rebranded). She has a brother, Rowankit. She's also best friends with the kits also in the nursery, who are for some reason the exact same age as she is - Dawnkit and Sunkit! Dawnkit is being forced to be a medicine cat by her mom, for Wolfscar doesn't want her kit out fighting, but is fine with Sunkit doing as such.
Dawnkit is insistent Snowkit doesn't mention it to Flamewing, but Snowkit didn't pay attention to her reasoning and decides to tell the random warrior about it anyway. Flamewing nods and brings it up to Sorrelstripe (Not the canon cat; the deputy) who tells Fawnstar. Fawnstar decides to make all kits warrior apprentices on the spot, including three kits you've never heard of until now and the main cast. Snowpaw's mentor is Hollyleaf's reincarnation named Hollypelt.
The whole apprentice stage is a big timeskip. When Snowpaw and company get their names (Without the other three kits, by the way) their names are decided by the whole clan chanting their names. This results in Snowstrike, Rowanheart, Sunclaw, and Dawnsky!
Suddenly, NightClan (ShadowClan rebranded) bursts in and attacks the clan! This includes 7 kittens that closed in on Snowstrike. She puts them in her nest, and then the battle's over with NightClan retreating. It turns out Fawnstar has died during the battle, losing her last life despite saying she had 4 lives left! One of the kits Snowstrike basically kidnapped is nameless, so they name her Fawnkit in honour of the leader.
Some time later, Sunclaw confesses his love to Snowstrike, who rejects him because she isn't interested in him. (And it's not because she had another tom she liked! It's because she straight up didn't like anyone!)
And then she dies during a battle, fighting Burnclaw I think. What a story, huh? Thank 9 year old me for it!
TL;DR Snowstrike supposedly has lightning powers but never uses them and rejects being in a straight relationship.
Why 'Snow Strike'? I was doing my rebranding - like, instead of all Warrior cats OCs, I wanted non-battle cats! So, rather than Swiftpelt, he was named Swift. Rather than Nighttail, she was named Night. And rather than Snowstrike, of course, she was named Snow.
Several years later I was giving all my characters last names. For reasons. Referencing her warrior name, she was named Snow Strike.
TL:DR Snow Strike was named after Snowstrike, of course!
Current Storyline Snow's current storyline is one I love!
Snow disregards any warning of the dangerous thunderstorm coming to her area and leaves her house. Unfortunately, she's caught within the worst of it - and is struck by lightning and dies.
Before she's fully "dead", she's trapped in some sort of.. middle space. Supposedly, people there decide what to do next - to haunt as a ghost or to reincarnate (At the price of memories). Snow chose.. neither. In fact, at the same moment she had died, someone else had too.. and by some strange coincidence, they could talk to each other! This someone is Thorn Daemos.
They get along well. Snow can see that Thorn is fading bit by bit, due to a curse that's spread by how Thorn dies, and is going back to life. Snow insists she'll come find Thorn, and Thorn (Jokingly) asks her to promise. The two of them swear rather formally that they'll find each other in life - which, unknowingly, ties their life forces together. This causes both Thorn and Snow to come back to life.
Snow's a ghost who can't interact with anything (As in, basically incorporeal) until she finds Thorn, but the issue is.. she's lost her memories of the time while she was dead. All she can remember is that she needs to find someone.. and that's not vague at all, is it?
TL;DR That moment when you tie your life force with someone which means you need to be somewhat near them to be alive and you already forgot who they were
And that's all I can think of right now..

Headcanons - The Lego Movie Combined Timeline
This-- may get complicated.
A few minor explanations before we get started...
The Lego Void - My replacement for the human scenes in the movies. The Lego Void has a heavily increased gravity for any non-human, and has random spots where it tears into the universe, so those who exist in the Void can watch the universe’s stories in real-time. This ‘Lego Void’ is full of floating Lego/Duplo blocks (it’s called the Duplo Void in the Systar System) that have been harvested in part by Lord Business so he could build his vast empire.
Rex is not aware (in my AU) of Queen Watevra’s real plans (nor of Armamageddon), and just assumes that everything in the Systar System is out to either brainwash or kill him, Emmet, and Celexa.
I do ship Emmet x Lucy in Canon, but--- I have a crush on Emmet/Rex, so... In my AU, Emmet and Lucy do not get together- although by the end of the second movie, Lucy sees Emmet/Rex as BFFs.
The Lego Void Beast - I don’t have all the ideas down in my head yet, but I’d say it appears like the time-god-machine-monster from Sonic Generations... And that its powers rest mostly in darkness/insta-building things, as well as gravity manipulation (can you say OW).
There are (a few) ‘Verse/Ship Dependent’ things in here, but I did my best to make them as non-impactful on the story as possible, save for the final fight.
TIMELINE ONE - REX DANGERVEST
Celexa teleports into the Lego Void (my replacement for the Infinite Abyss of Nothingness’ human-realm).
Watches the world for a time from the Lego Void before seeing Wyldstyle- at the time NeverSmiles- in trouble.
Teleports out to save/help NeverSmiles- Backstory Event kicks in and they immediately lose the ability to TP/gain their light abilities.
Timeskip one year.
Emmet finds the Piece of Resistance.
Celexa and Wyldstyle tail the police back to the station.
In the night, Wyldstyle to save Emmet.
Emmet crushes immediately on Wyldstyle.
Celexa deals with the police chasing Emmet and Wyldstyle, alongside Wyldstyle.
Wyldstyle finds out fast that Emmet is completely average, cue her despising him.
The three crash through Bricksburg’s border.
They all land in The Old West, with Wyldstyle huffing off towards the nearby town while Cel stays back to exposition dump to Emmet about the Piece, the Masterbuilders, and Lord Business.
Also here, Cel has suffered a few injuries- uses some gauze (something unknown to Emmet at this time).
Emmet slow to return to Wyldstyle, crush with her has failed entirely.
Cel sneaks into town as a ‘Lego’ (light manipulation = perfect disguise minus the fact that it’s not solid woot!).
Cue them meeting Vitruvius and all going into Emmet’s mind.
Vitruvius and Cel see his potential when he’s able to manipulate his mindscape with ease.
Wyldstyle is a mix of annoyed/impressed and blames it on his very, VERY unoriginal life.
Cue chase by police.
Batman rescues them all.
The journey to Cloud Cuckoo Land takes all night (rushing through Middle Zealand as they do).
Over the course of the night, Emmet and Cel chat (after all, Lego seeing his first human is very confused). Eventually turns into a chat about belonging and the like.
Reach Cloud Cuckoo Land- Emmet delivers his (awful) speech, attack of the police again!
Meet Benny (best spaceman).
Cel captured alongside the Master Builders, captured while defending Emmet’s team as they built the submarine.
TIMELINE SPLITS.
CEL’S TIMELINE
Cel awakens on the way to the Think Tank.
Escapes.
Jumps into the Infinite Abyss of Nothingness- awakens back in the Lego Void.
Forced to watch Emmet’s Timeline unfold until he falls in.
END OF SPLIT.
EMMET’S TIMELINE
This plays out mostly the same as the movie until Emmet falls into the Infinite Abyss of Nothingness- save that he starts off this split a bit more despondent like the others, before pulling himself together in order to get everyone back/save the planet. SO FOR THOSE WHO DON’T REMEMBER THE MOVIE THAT WELL.
Submarine explodes, everyone saved by Emmet’s double-decker couch.
Then saved by Metalbeard after the police think Emmet is deceased/the Piece is at the bottom of the mcfUCKING OCEAN-
Emmet uses his memory of instructions to recreate an Octan spaceship with the Master Builders (after Batman steals a warp drive[?] from Han Solo).
He’s told the Piece might explode once it is reattached to the Kragle.
Everyone sneaks into Lord Business’ lair.
Benny + Metalbeard work on the tech (disabling a shield surrounding the Kragle, a device made to freeze Legos [it’s Krazy Glue]).
Unikitty and Batman (daylighting[?] as Wayne) stall Lord Business’ machine-build progress.
Wyldstyle and Emmet go to take care of the Kragle itself, with Wyldstyle taking out guards while Emmet goes into a giant vent to get to the Kragle.
Also, minor scene of Wyldstyle being forced to sing ‘everything is awesome’, and Wyldstyle reveals her real name to Emmet (it’s Lucy) before taking off for her part of the plan.
Batman handblocks Emmet.
Batman + Emmet try to destroy the Kragle, but the plan falls apart entirely (probably thanks to Vitruvius, THE BLIND MAN, being the scout).
Everyone is captured, Vitruvius reveals the prophecy about the Special was made up- and then dies.
Emmet sacrifices himself to save everyone by falling into the Infinite Abyss of Nothingness- only to end up in the Lego Void.
END OF SPLIT.
TIMELINE ONE - REX DANGERVEST
After Cel manages to raise Emmet’s spirits, the two jointly find a way to return from the Lego Void.
Cel goes to help the others while Emmet goes to confront Lord Business.
Emmet and Lord Business have their mega-showdown/talkdown.
Lord Business disarms the Kragle, his office explodes.
Lord Business goes to get a cure for the Kragle while everyone else repairs the damage from the war.
Once everything is repaired, they all prepare to go about their daily lives...
Only to be attacked by the Duplo-folk.
CUE MOVIE TWO.
City repeatedly destroyed by Duplo-folk, five years pass and Bricksburg is now Apocalypseburg- Emmet and Cel are the only two who have not gone gritty in this time.
Attacked by General Mayhem, who kidnaps Batman, Benny, Lucy, Metalbeard, and Unikitty (who has earned an ‘Ultrakatty’ form since the first movie).
Emmet and Cel set out to save the others.
Cel presumably dies while trying to keep Emmet safe from the Glasstroids in the Stairgate.
Emmet’s exploding house-spaceship sends him flying towards an unknown world (Undar of the Dryar System, as he later learns).
Emmet spends five years seething in self-hate and pity, thinking his friends have abandoned him and he was useless in saving anyone when it came down to it.
Eventually, he manages to escape-- straight into the Lego Void.
Here, he finds the new vest/hair/etc., renames himself... And finds time travel devices lying around.
Creates the plan to go back in time and save his past self + Cel, at this point he just thinks the others were faking being kidnapped so they could avoid him.
Creates his fist-spaceship.
Travels back in time to get a team of raptors.
Trains raptors via tennis ball.
Prepares to travel forward again to save Emmet and Cel.
TIMELINE REVERSES.
TIMELINE TWO - THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART
Emmet and Cel are saved by a stranger who quickly reveals himself to be Rex Dangervest.
Emmet does not copy Rex’s mannerisms (but he does try every here and there) as the trio make a run for the Systar System.
They decide to land on the planet of Heck Town, where Rex’s raptors are all kidnapped and (presumably) brainwashed while the trio are attacked by a flash mob singing Catchy Song (see this drabble for more details).
Cel gets injured fending the mob off, Rex saves them from breaking their skull, Emmet breaks the ground and the trio falls to another planet underneath Heck Town.
Emmet manages to find a way out for them all.
They land in a Lego supply chain on its way towards a giant star-cake at the center of the Systar System.
VERSE/SHIP DEPENDENT: Emmet/Rex realizes he has feelings for Cel.
The trio make it to the star-cake and meet up with Lucy.
Rex assumes Lucy has been brainwashed.
Lucy has to convince everyone involved that she is not brainwashed, Cel backs her up.
Rex is nervous.
Emmet crafts a plan to save them all after getting some intel from Lucy concerning the ‘phone’ device and the music that ‘brainwashes’ Legos.
Break, Lucy to deal with General Mayhem, Cel to go with Emmet in case he needs backup, Rex unknown (back to his ship).
The cake is being used as the location for a treaty-signing between Batman and Watevra.
That is, until Emmet destroys it.
Emmet destroying the cake leads to a universe-collapsing event, with everyone being pulled into the Lego Void.
VERSE/SHIP DEPENDENT: Rex/Celexa confess their feelings to Celexa/Emmet.
Emmet, Rex, and Celexa have to work together to get everyone else out of the Lego Void-- which leads to the two sides (the Systar System and Apocalypseburg) realizing the humongous misunderstanding.
When they all escape, Emmet is suddenly pulled (plot device I have no explanation) by an intense gravity to Undar.
Rex goes to save Emmet, Celexa and Lucy are not far behind.
Rex stops when he reaches the planet and realizes Celexa and Lucy followed him.
It’s revealed that Rex is Emmet from an alternate timeline, and Rex figures that he’ll now disappear (although he’s a bit suspicious of Lucy, always will be), since Emmet is going to be saved in this timeline.
The gravity of Undar suddenly reverses, trying to expel Rex, Lucy, and Celexa.
Cue final fight against the Lego Void, which has materialized due to wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey shenanigans to set the timeline straight.
VERSE/SHIP DEPENDENT: Celexa risks their life to save Emmet/Rex from the Lego Void Beast (both nearly die in the process).
Upon its defeat, Lego bricks start spewing everywhere on the planet.
The team escapes- injured but alive- and returns to the mass of others that were unable to fight back against the gravity effects of the Lego Void.
They all move to a new section of the universe, and rebuild afresh with Syspocalypse Star.
The planet Undar is now a source for resources for Syspocalypse Star, although only Emmet/Celexa/Rex/Lucy ever gather resources from there (this has become their collective job) since everyone else is unable to move upon reaching the intense gravity of the planet.
END OF TIMELINE.

pairing: kita shinsuke x f!reader
summary: y/n is a rising star in the music industry, having almost everything you could have ever hoped for as a small-town country girl. now after releasing two triple platinum albums in consecutive years, you face the dreaded artist’s burnout… in order to recover, your manager suggests, you should return to your hometown in hyōgo for a long-deserved break.
genre: socmed/smau, slice of life
warnings/tags: timeskip!, mutual pining, slow burn? more like rekindling, slight canon divergence

You finished sending your texts to Osamu and sat back in your bed, tossing your phone aside and then pulling the covers over your head. As you tugged and curled into your blankets, your phone fell to the wooden floor of your bedroom with a heavy thunk. Cursing, you drew back the covers and reached over the edge of the bed, trying to find balance. All of the blood rushed to your face as you huffed, still attempting to rescue your phone without actually laying foot on the ground.
Once you finally recovered it, you sat back onto your bed with a heave, any sleepiness you had now gone. You stared at the ceiling, wondering what you should do that day. A hand fisted itself into the thick blankets as you tossed and turned, trying to find some comfort in your plush bed. You hadn't been able to sleep well the past couple of days, for whatever reason. Your neck hurt, your back was sore, hell, your entire body ached for some reason, restless and yet so tense at the same time.
You sat up suddenly. What was it Kuroo had said to you? You weren't sure.
"Ugh..." You buried your face into your hands, memories of last night's conversation rushing back to you; remembering how you'd started talking about Kita when you were nodding off. It had been over two years since everything between you went down. Why couldn't you stop thinking about it? You could feel the burn of embarrassment and shame behind your eyes, your throat beginning to close up. Sniffling, you opened your phone and scrolled through your contacts. Who wouldn't be busy? Your hand stilled, and your face brightened, if only for a moment. Kenma. He had a calm and comforting presence, which never failed to mellow you out. Plus, he didn’t really talk about emotions or feelings so he wouldn’t ask you about anything related to Kita, nor would you be tempted to talk about him.
You texted your bodyguard and driver, Ichiro, who agreed to pick you up from your apartment and then drive you to Kenma’s. Thanking him for coming on such a short notice and then reminding him to not text and drive, you got dressed for the day, choosing to wear your comfiest hoodie.
A few minutes later, your phone lit up again with Ichiro’s standard “here” text, and you were out the door, not forgetting to bring a hat and sunglasses with you, though. After locking the door and slipping your accessories on, you rushed into the elevator and then made your way down to the car.
The car ride itself was silent, as Ichiro seemed to have picked up on the mood you were in and decided not to comment. Although he was usually stoic, he always maintained a conversation if you initiated it, his responses albeit short. By now you knew that the brevity in which he spoke was not because of anything against you, however, but because he was naturally a quiet person. You wouldn’t have had anyone else for the job, though.
The car softly jolted you as it pulled to a stop, and you unbuckled quickly after realizing you were already at Kenma’s apartment. “Thanks!” you called out, opening the door yourself and then shutting it. You smiled and waved before Ichiro merged back into traffic, watching the car eventually disappear in the long stream of vehicles.
Feeling somewhat better, you entered the complex after buzzing in. and then made your way to Kenma’s apartment, knocking on the door and patiently waiting. There was a long pause and some shuffling behind the door before it opened a crack. Two large yellow eyes peered out into the hall, and then landed on you. The door shut and then opened without the door chain to stop it this time, and you stepped in.
“I brought my Switch,” you proudly announced, looking to the side of the corridor where Kenma was standing, a little hunched over and slouching. You held up your video game console, which was covered in skins and cute accessories you'd purchased. Some of them you'd gotten for free from Kenma though, who got sent free stuff all the time.
“Hi, Y/N,” he said, a soft smile on his face. He pulled half of his hair back with a hair tie and followed you back to where he streamed his games, settling into the chair that all of his fans could recognize by now. “We can play Minecraft, if you want. I haven't gone on our world for a while, so we could both go on.” Kenma swiveled to look at you inquisitively, waiting for an answer.
You lazily waved a hand at him. “No! Today you’re supposed to stream, right? I just crashed your place so I don’t really have a say. You should record and then if you have time after we can play,” you insisted, sitting on the bean bag behind his gamer chair. “I’ll watch or maybe work on my own world.”
Kenma thought about it for a few seconds, then nodded, setting up his microphone and monitors. “Last chance,” he mumbled, then put his headset over his ears, blocking out everything else. You watched in the background with mild interest as he went through his usual monotonous introduction, one that his fans seemed to adore despite its lack of flair. Perhaps it was exactly that what made him so endearing to the internet. Smiling, you glanced back down to your Switch, and opened up Minecraft.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Setting your phone down for a second after replying to Atsumu, you called out lazily: "Oiiii, Kenma.” After a beat of silence and no response, you called again, "Kenmaaaa."
He had been just finished streaming, and pulled off his headphones. "Hm?"
You sat up excitedly, startling Kenma. "When I move, you should visit! Once I get settled in, at least."
He blinked, looking up at the ceiling as if calculating the pros and cons. "Too many bugs," he finally responded with a small grimace. "And it's gross and hot outside."
At that, you broke out into a laugh, the heartiest and most meaningful you’d had in a while. His particular comment wasn't even that funny, it was just- it was just so him. Was your sense of humor breaking? “Maybe I'll be able to change your mind," you mused. "We can even stream a video collab with the both of us- we should try Animal Crossing!" You clapped excitedly, beaming. "Kenma, let's do Animal Crossing once it comes out!”
He squinted his eyes, scooting away from you and your blinding enthusiasm. "Fine," he muttered, hunched over his phone now. He scrolled for a few minutes before speaking again. "Did you see that we're trending? On Twitter and YouTube." Kenma handed you his phone, stifling a small laugh into the collar of his sweatshirt as he sat back.
"I did," you snickered, laying his phone on the table and lying back on his bean bag chair. "My favorite response is the one about the Kodzuken simps," you said, wiggling your eyebrows suggestively at Kenma and then cackling when he turned completely the other way from you. "Kenma, they're devastated!" You gasped dramatically and then draped an arm over your forehead, fainting.
He rolled his eyes at you, shaking his head. "Shut up, Y/N."
After your giggles died out, you saw him offering a controller to you. "Game night!" you cheered, accepting it and sitting up straighter. "We should get takeout!"
Kenma lifted a brow, as if to say why are you even telling me this? "Already on its way.”
The two of you chatted as you played Minecraft, Kenma being a little more open when his mind was preoccupied with gaming. He was, of course, much better than you, eyes glued to the TV screen which had been hooked up to the game console. "Has Kuroo told you who's going to the Olympics?"
You shook your head, then remembered that Kenma wasn't looking your way. "No," you replied slowly, focused on getting out of the water so you could escape the mobs that were chasing you. "But a few of the boys from Inarizaki are. As for Kuroo, I think he was going to say something, but I fell asleep last night. He said something about you and an advertisement, though?"
Kenma smiled, finally breaking his gaze with the screen and looking at you. "Hinata Shōyō from MSBY is collabing with me, to promote the 2020 Olympic games."
Your eyes lit up in recognition. "That's right! Atsumu is teammates with him. I haven't talked to him one-on-one, though. He seems sweet!"
Kenma turned his attention back to the TV, where he was almost done building a house. "He played volleyball in high school too. They beat Inarizaki his first year at Nationals."
You stopped to think, your hands stilling on the controller. Your breathing slowed. In your third year, Inarizaki hadn't progressed further into Nationals, like everyone predicted. Despite being assistant manager, you hadn't thought it would be a big deal to miss their first match in the competition; assistant managers weren’t even allowed on the actual court anyways. You had all thought you were going to get further. You had thought you would get to see your boys play one last time. You had thought you would get to see Kita lead his team to Nationals, as team captain.
You had missed out on that opportunity for signing a record deal.
Beside you, Kenma noticed how quiet you'd gotten but didn't comment, instead going to the door when the buzzer notified him of their takeout delivery. You picked at a loose string on your hoodie, remembering why you didn't often go to Kenma when in distress. While you knew he cared about you and your wellbeing, you also knew that heart-to-heart conversations weren't his strong suit. When he returned a few moments later with your favorite foods, you pushed down the eruption of guilt and self-loathing with a bright smile. "Sorry, what were we saying? Something about Kuroo..." You strained to keep your eyes crinkled and happy.
Kenma's brow furrowed. "Kuroo-"
You interrupted him, and he let you. "Oh yeah! Kuroo and I are gonna hang out on Thursday! Wanna come? I'm leaving Saturday morning, so unless I see you before then, this will be the last time you see me before I leave for Hyōgo."
You watched his face run through a couple of emotions before settling on contemplation. Kenma blew a wisp of stray hair from his eyes and then begrudgingly: "Sure..."
This time, you gave him a true smile and clapped excitedly. "Yay! Should we try to get some of the others to join us? Lev? I want to be able to say goodbye to all of you in person, if possible." Then, swiping the plastic bag from Kenma, you opened the bag hurriedly and began pulling out things. "Here are the plates... and the chopsticks..." You set everything out and then let him load his plate with food first. Soon after, the two of you were back to playing Minecraft, squabbling over who got to use what equipment. After Kenma finally relented and let you have first pick, the both of you set out to fight the swarms of mobs gathered near your shared house.
"Hey, Y/N."
You had looked away for only a couple seconds, but you were blown up by a Creeper. "BITCH," you screeched, "I just fucking died?!"
Kenma snickered, running past your character and stealing everything you'd left behind. You gasped even louder. "BITCH-"

Introducing... Charlotte Inari
My One Piece OC. My second one, actually. I put a lot of work into designing her, so I thought I should share this with you. Maybe you'll enjoy this. Hopefully.
Watch me tag @mondfahrt because I want their approval because they're kinda my idol when it comes to One Piece on Tumblr. Notice me, mondfahrt-sama!
This is a long post, so I'm placing a cut. But please still read it, I put lots of work in it.
Name
シャーロット・イナリ (Japanese)
Charlotte Inari (English)
All of the Charlotte siblings are named after some kind of food or ingredient, mostly related sweets. Inari is named after inari sushi, an offering usually given to the fox spirits/statues of the Japanese kami (goddess/spirit) Inari who is the kami of foxes, fertility, rice, sake, agriculture, industry, prosperity and wordly success. Depending on the story, she presents as male, female or androgynous. Inari sushi is a pouch of fried tofu filled with rice that looks like it has little fox ears.
Crew & Position
Officially, she's part of the Big Mom Pirates, but she travels with the Straw Hats, initially out of debt to Luffy and to eventually return to her family.
Wanted Poster
Inari is a bit hard to recognize on her wanted poster due to her devil fruit's abilities. Her epithet is "Kitsune" (Japanese) or "Sly Fox" (English Dub), due to her name and its relations to foxes, as well as the fact that her appearance changes so frequently (kitsune are known to shape-shift).
Bounty
Her bounty is strongly influenced by her lineage, making for high sums. She isn't a weak fighter, but her bounty makes her seem more dangerous than she actually is in a one-on-one fight, at least when compared to the likes of the Monster Trio. The Marines think that, if they get her, they might have a chance of catching more members of Big Mom's crew or get some insights and believe that Inari must be incredibly strong due to her lineage.
After Enies Lobby: 125,000,000 Berry
After being an active member of the Big Mom Pirates during the time skip: 256,000,000 Berry
After Dressrosa: 388,000,000 Berry
Unlike the other Straw Hats part of the events, she didn't get a bounty raise after Whole Cake Island since she didn't participate in any fights.
Age and Birthday
Inari is 16 before the timeskip and 18 after. Her birthday is June 25th. You may or may not recongize this as Pudding's birthday. That's because they're twins, making Inari the 36th daughter and 77th child of Big Mom aka Charlotte Linlin. This also means that everyone in the Charlotte family is two years older in this alternate universe. I partially did this because I didn't want Inari to be 14 when joining, but also because I want to avoid the situation of Sanji (19) and Pudding (16, in regular canon) getting creepy.
Origin and Residence
Inari was born on Totto Land on the Grand Line but has lived on other islands in other seas throughout her childhood. The longest of these was on Skypea under the reign of Enel. Afterwards, she lived on the Going Merry and Thousand Sunny until the timeskip, when she returned to Totto Land. Once the two years were over, she returned to the Thousand Sunny, but only until the Straw Hats had to leave her with her family on Totto Land.
Appearance
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being Pudding's twin, she, of course, resembles her a lot. Her hair and eye color change due to her devil fruit, but her facial constructs stay the same. She has large eyes and prominent lips and is relatively short. Her most definining feature is her third eye which she keeps hidden under her bangs most of the time, much like her sister. Her bangs are inspired by her big sister Smoothie's hair style. Though, unlike Pudding, she has grown more comfortable with showing her third eye and usually keeps her bangs parted when around the Straw Hats or uses it as a shock factor in battle. Had she not eaten her devil fruit, she would look much like the images above. Her hair would be light brown with a slight pink tint and her eyes a dark blue (like Pudding's in the manga).
Personality
Her devil fruit influences her personality in minor ways too, but that's only noticable when she picks up defining quirks. In general, she strongly resembles her twin sister personality-wise and has also picked up some traits from her mother.
Inari is emotional and impulsive. She is quick to act, displaying a certain level of anxiety whenever something isn't going as planned and throwing her all into protecting those around her. When not caught up in battle, she's very kind and gentle, especially to her nakama. She loves sweets and tea parties as they remind her of home.
Her dream is one much like her mother's: To create a place where people of all races can live together and peace and be happy together.
Devil Fruit
Okay, buckle up. Her devil fruit is the Kami-Kami no Mi, or Spirit-Spirit Fruit in the Dub (or God-God Fruit, haven't decided on how fancy I want to be). It looks like a strawberry, which is why Inari ate it in the first place. She got it when she was still very young and her older siblings brought home treasure they had stolen from their enemies after battle.
The Kami-Kami no Mi turns the user into something that could be compared to a guardian angel or a "daimonion", meaning a personal deity in Greek myth and philosophy.
It puts them into a servant-master relationship with someone else. The user is the servant and has to obey orders from their master. In return, they get magical abilities related to their master's own abilities and their personality. One of these abilities is an elemental power (earth/fire/water/air) and the other can be literally anything. After the timeskip, Inari has perfected her abilities so far that she can control two elements and an individual power if her master is strong enough to provide these powers. She can't, however, gain any advantage when it comes to haki from her master.
Whoever the devil fruit user's master is (or who their allegiance is currently to) is openly visible, as their appearance changes to more closely resemble their master and their master's name appears on their left inner wrist.
The user's allegiance changes if someone saves them from death or defeats their old master. This person then becomes their new master.
This all probably sounds like a lot right now, so let me give some example: In Skypea, Inari was servant to Enel. Her hair was a light dirty blonde and her eyes were a pale blue. She had the elemental power of air and the ability to redirect lightning and electricity but not generate it. After Enel was defeated by Luffy, Inari's hair color changed to dark brown and her eyes turned a deep blue. She kept the element of air because this also happened to be Luffy's element, but her individual ability changed to superhuman agility in reference to Luffy's speed and agility, also due to his devil fruit. During the Davy Back Fight, she was saved from Big Pan by Sanji. Her hair turned straw blonde and her eyes became a lighter tint of blue. Now, she had control over the element of fire (even before Sanji could use Diable Jambe) and her individual ability was increased acrobatics which manifested mostly in her being able to copy Sanji's high kicks and handstand shenanigans. You know, those cool things he does.
She picks up little quirks from her masters too. For example, she tends to get lost a bit more easily when bound to Zoro and runs from fights more when bound to Usopp.
Other Abilities
Inari uses two war fans, also known as tessen. These are mainly used for directing and focusing her elemental abilities, but also for slicing down enemies Zoro style. In general, her fighting style is influenced by who her allegiance is currently to due to how strongly her devil fruit influences even Inari's sub-conscious. For example, she relies more heavily on kicks and aerial attacks when bound to Sanji, uses her fans to slice when in allegiance to Zoro and uses longer-ranged attacks when connected with Usopp. She can use a katana if necessary as she learned how to sword-fight as a little kid, but is only really any use with it if bound to a swordfighter like Zoro. If push comes to shove, she will take on of the blades out of her tessen and use it as a knife.
Being a half-blood member of the Three-Eyed Tribe, she may be able to read poneglyphs one day, but due to her mixed heritage, it is known if she will ever reach that power.
Straw Hat Trivia Because It's Cute
Her animal resemblance is a fox.
Her specific color is a pastel orange with a slight pink hue.
She smells like strawberries.
Her favorite food is strawberries, chocolate and candy of any kind. She also adores Sanji's soufflée. Her least favourite, ironically, is tofu. She only likes tofu as part of inari sushi. Her cooking speciality is an amazing strawberry cake that she perfected with the help of Sanji. She's pretty good at making sweets in general.
Her favourite type of island and season is spring on a spring island.
Her blood type is XF.
She bathes every two days and usually sleeps for about six hours from 10pm to 4am plus some naps spread out around the day - usually cuddling with Chopper or attempting to cuddle with Zoro. He lets her rest her head on his chest or shoulder and won't get disgusted or move away when she cuddles up to him, but doesn't actively cuddle her back.
In a race of the Straw Hats, depending on who she is currently bound to, she would place somewhere between 4th and 7th. 4th if bound to Sanji, 5th if bound to Luffy, 6th if bound to anyone else with the element of air so she can propell herself with it and 7th if she's just running regularly.
Backstory & Relationships
Will be part of a different post, because this one is already too long.
