About
I've been meaning to make an intro post so here are some facts about myself
I have a computer science degree
I have an obscene amount of mediocre knowledge on various art medias both performance and visual (to name a few: printmaking, stage combat, FX makeup, cosplay, and more!). I do not practice all of them continuously, but I do also write :)
I own at least one cat
Favorite color is black
I am queer, Black Lives Matter, and feminism is for everyone
I am technically an adult
Some games I play: Legend of Zelda (many of them), Hades, and Animal Crossing. Waiting for another Jak and Daxter forever
I don't know what else to put in this post lol I guess I will update it if things become relevant

in art school i only did printmaking. i took the required intro courses in drawing, photo, painting, ceramics, and 2&3d design, but my head and my heart were always in the print studio. i so stubbornly believed i had found the only medium that made sense to me because the ~process~ is so central to printmaking. it’s chemistry and materials science, a little wood and metal working, design and iteration, and it’s often stupidly difficult. i bought into this idea that other mediums were about virtuosity and raw talent, rather than all the things i found satisfying about printmaking. of course i was afraid i wasn’t good enough, that’s just being an artist. but i think now that i was maybe just trying to distance myself from making art by making beautiful objects that required a lot of skill and specialized equipment because i don’t think i made any good art until i was cut off from the studio after graduating. i was left with a little paint and so broke i only had trash to work with. that first show after was some of my best work because i was fighting through my newly limited media to get where i wanted to be, instead of hiding from that place inside technique.

Nomi J. Connors - Writeblr Intro
Hello everyone, I'm Nomi (all pronouns apply) and I am a romance and fantasy author. I have an interest in both clean and erotic romance novels and short stories. I have been known to dabble in horror short stories and in poetry.
My purpose for being on Writeblr is to share my work in a low pressure environment, and to read and support the work of others. I always respond to friendly DMs and I try to reply to asks in a timely manner.
My other interests include art (specifically printmaking and paper making, though I'm getting into digital art), Stardew Valley, Skyrim, MXTX's works, and writing and playing music (I play a lot of instruments and sing). Sometimes these intersect with my writing, and I will post about them from time to time.
Some boundaries: I will block minors on sight. My work is not for those under eighteen, please don't interact until you are of age. I also do not take unsolicited constructive criticism, especially on matters of taste.
Here are a couple of my WIPs and completed projects:
Lunar Lagoon: An erotic romance set in the modern Mediterranean. Lyria, a mermaid, and Amelia, the transfem captain of an antique sailing vessel, must navigate a budding relationship formed from mutual pleasure as it blossoms into something meaningful and deep, while avoiding the ire of Lyria’s overprotective father. Love should be smooth sailing… right?
Crossroads: An erotic romance set in the US. Hazel Abernathy is a struggling witch fighting a losing battle against her local HOA and the crumbling infrastructure of the house her mother left to her when she passed. She’s ready to get back out there and on Valentines Day, meets the sweet and charming Aleksander, and the bombastic and enigmatic Lillian. The two of them, powerful demons in their own right, have their own struggles with mysterious spiritual attacks on the nightclub they own.
I hope to have the second draft completed by the end of March.
Wear a Coat: A horror short story set in the Appalachian mountains, where I come from. What happens when you don’t follow your mama’s advice and go looking for berries without a coat? Maybe you’ll just get cold or maybe you’ll attract unwanted attention from something dwelling deep within the forest…

How did you get into linoprint?
My intro to printmaking class had us do linoprints as our second assignments, and I found the process to be really fun, cheap, and easy to do. Also I'm a slut for unmounted linoleum so I end up buying more of it even though I have enough of it as is. I'm still doing my intro to printmaking class this semester and our current assignment is etching, and hopefully I can pass this semester because next semester I get an intro to screen printing (I've done a simple single layer screen print before), and an intro to lithography (you know that I'm eating those stones). I also just generally like the aesthetics of printmaking, they strike a resonance with me that I can't really explain so I was hyped for this class, especially after playing Copper Odyssey.
Thanks for asking!

An Updated Introduction
Figured it was high time I updated my intro post given I've actually accomplished my goal of Being A Vendor since I established this lil art-centric Tumblr.
So welcome to my portfolioblr! This is where I share both finished images and work-in-progress shots of my art. I'm still a pretty small fish artist all things considered - I've vended at GeekCraft Expo twice, 2D Con once, and a handful of little pop up events. I still do not have an online storefront and am I sure if that is in the cards.
Most of these images represent the things that helped me survive. Between major life events and day to day stress, I feel I should pay homage to the things that helped to quell the ever-present anxiety and dread over the current state of the world. These things may not be popular currently, but they have a special place with me and I hope with others.
I’m a printmaker by trade, focusing on linocuts - a type of relief printmaking using carved linoleum (think rubber stamp but bigger). The linocuts I plan on selling are all hand-carved and printed, then hand colored with Copics. I’ll be getting prints made of the colored version for sale, as well as selling limited runs of the hand-pulled black and whites. I’ve also been exploring making charms using polystyrene (shrink plastic).
Appreciate you stopping by and hope you see something you like!

100k fics I need in my life yesterday:
Hob Gadling as one of the Monuments Men. Hob Gadling later coordinating a heist against the British Museum to reverse-Indiana Jones their stolen artifacts. Hob Gadling hobfathering an entire ‘criminal’ empire based on forged art and fake IDs
Hob Gadling inadvertently getting taken into the fold by the abolitionists (and getting back into the printmaking business, then also getting to flex his former merc skills bc the slavetraders keep hiring thugs to put him out of business)
Hob Gadling vs his Intro to English Lit for STEM Maiors class (hush, I owe my degree to my ‘calculus for poets’ professor, and to this day I think I still have a crush on her)
Hob Gadling shadow-funding several homeless shelters, he also convinced the dean of the law school to require a ‘service learning credit’ and then has one of his shelters be one of the volunteer opportunities. Hob Gadling taking these bright young students along for street outreach so they can ::physically see:: some of the realities the rough sleepers face, in the hopes that they’ll carry a bit of compassion with them as they go on to be barristers or MPs. Hob Gadling knowing he can’t change the world on his own but knowing he can sometimes plant fulcrums.
Hob Gadling with a sword. Just a gigantic fucking sword 😍😍😍

Introduction
Hi ho! I'm Timothea (the h is silent) I'm a 26 yr old lesbian, printmaker, bookmaker, painter and writer in exactly that order. This blog is dedicated mainly to my fantasy writing project "The Faceless Empress". My goal is to write a full novel that I can typeset, print and bind by hand.
For now, because I am more of a bookmaker than I am a writer, my plan is to release it in a series of zines so I can fuck around with book structures and formats to keep myself engaged.
About Me
I'm a morbid creature. I don't realize it until I open my damn mouth at work and a cannibalism joke falls out.
I listen pretty much exclusively to Hozier. A lot of my writing inspiration comes from his music. This may briefly become a hozier fan page when Unreal, Unearth comes out. I'm very sorry.
I am happy to give writing advice, but do know that I may take ages to get to it. The ole brain don't work like it used to.
I am happy to receive writing advice, but do know that I fully reserve the right to ignore it and carry on as I please.
Tag me in all the things! I can't promise I'll respond, but I will enjoy it all the same.

Surrealism
Hello! welcome to my first blog post of the surrealism series. For the next three weeks, I will be posting about Surrealism and topics related to it.
The Beginning
What is Surrealism - Surrealism aims to revolutionize the human experience. It also balances a rational vision of life with one that asserts the power of the unconscious and dream
Why Surrealism Important- Surrealism taught the world to see art not merely visually and literally; but to appreciate it on a subconscious level as well
Co-Founder- André Robert Breton was a French writer and poet. He was best known as the co-founder of surrealism. His writings about surrealism are included in his Manifesto, in which he defines surrealism as "psychic automatism". This means the thought in the absence of all control over moral or aesthetic concerns.  The artwork below is titled Egg in the church or The Snake, the media is a photographic collage. He describes the title and subject of symbolic cryptic Surrealist/ dreamlike interest in the female body as form, as well as an interest in themes concerning sexuality and religion

Surrealism dreamlike Imaginary
Intro- Surrealist dreams-like imagery is probably the most recognizable element of the surrealism movement. Each artist relied on their motifs through their unconscious mind being painted. At its basic, the imagery is perplexing and even uncanny, as it is meant to complex the viewer's mind. Some motifs that artist use in their works Include:  Max Ernst was obsessed with birds and Salvador Dali include ants or eggs.
Tumblr media
Die Verwandlung (The Transfiguration) – 1977
Artist #1- Speaking of Salvador Dali, was a Spanish surrealist artist renowned for his technical skill, precise draftsmanship, and striking and bizarre images in his work. This piece is titled The Persistence of Memory, he described the melting watches are a senseless symbol of time and space, its also thought of as the collapse of knowledge of cosmic order. He said he was inspired by Albert Esiten’s theory of Special relativity.
Tumblr media
The Persistence of Memory, 1931
Artist #2- Max Ernest is a German painter, sculptor, printmaker, graphic artist, and poet. This piece is titled The Triumph of Surrealism he stated that he tried to create a sense of chaos and destruction because He forces the viewer's mind to think of these elements in a biblical sense. Ernst draws his audience to imagine the angel in the painting as if it were the angel of death from the seven plagues.
Tumblr media
The Angel of the home,1937
War Effect on Surrealism
Intro- Most surrealist artists had to change their art to help express their moods and their unconscious minds about certain wars or periods. What was originally sweet-like dream settings become more monster-like and depressing.
Artist #1- Another painting by Salvador Dali and its titled Soft Construction with Boiled Beans. He created it to represent the terror of the Spanish Civil war, he also painted it only six months before it began. He claimed that he was aware the war was going to occur before it began because of the power of his subconscious mind. He also described it as the monster pulling its body parts, like my country is being pulled apart by the civil war.
Tumblr media
Soft Construction with Boiled Beans, 1936
Artist #2- Max Ernst, who fought in the trenches during World War I, began his painting "Europe after the Rain II" in France in 1940, before leaving Europe and arriving in New York in 1941. He said he wanted to show  emotional desolation, physical exhaustion, and fears of the destructive power of total warfare combined - after the rain of fire
Tumblr media
Europe after the Rain II, 1941
Surrealism in 3D
Intro- The newest form of surrealism was being formed and had to do with the sculpture's media, called assemblage. Surrealists believe this had the power to puncture the thin façade of our reality and tap into our minds. They also stated to aid the structured insanity of all the senses.
Artist #1- This piece is called Breakfast in fur created by Méret Oppenheim, who is a German-born Swiss Surrealist artist and photographer. She wanted the piece to cause the viewers different feelings within like for one she described the object to be relaxing but not causing aggression because of the fur or when the fur is nice to pet or touch but uncomfortable if drinking.
Tumblr media
Breakfast in Fur, 1936
Artist #2- This piece is called Dining Table and was created by Michael Beitz who is still alive he does sculptures, drawings, and functional designs to examine his relationships and anxieties. He described this piece to look at "the silent tension that often exists between close people and the inability to communicate." He says loves doing surrealism in the real world because he loves to change everyday items and change their structure
Tumblr media
Dining Table, 2011
Artist #3- This piece is called Knot and another one was created by Micheal Beitz, he described this piece as the need the cancellation within the sofa and it represents the no longer comfort and leisure. How he describes his works are very serious but somewhat pleasing to the viewer and funny and funny. This is stated isn't true the only thing funny things come from uneasy places.
Tumblr media
Knot, 2011
Surrealism and Graphic Design
Intro- Companies try to strive to craft refreshing items, this new refreshing can be a surrealist technique because it is an element of surprise for the design world. Customers can be caught off guard by a contrasting color palette, unusual pairs of images, and typefaces that stretch how a letterform can bend. Because of these wacky elements, it can create a unique language and viewers out of their traditional experiences into a different world.
Artist #1 This logo is created by KisaDesign and is titled Sandbox, it was for Sandbox Films which is a production studio that illuminates the art and beauty of science. The logo is creating a surreal look by changing the sand into the mountain.
Tumblr media
Sandbox films,
Artist #2 This logo was created by Yiying Lu who is an award-winning artist, entrepreneur, educator, and bilingual speaker. She was named a “Fast Company's Most Creative People in Business” I couldn't find who she design this look for but again created the dream-like motif of making you second guess yourself. Couldn't find what the logo was designed for but this an example for of her surreal work
Tumblr media
Thank you for tuning in this week of my blog, tune in next week for the next topic of Surrealism in different mediums.
See you Next Week!
