Getting to know your BL mutuals - 2022 Edition
Simple, answer the questions. @ some people. Include the tag 'g2ky BL mutuals 2022' on your post so we can find everyone's answers!
Thank you for the tags @negrowhat @callipigio @respectthepetty @lelephantsnail and @firstkanaphans! I loved reading your answers.
What has been the BL that took you by surprise this year?
I only started watching BL in July, so the genre as a whole took me as a surprise. And early on I didn't really know what to expect, so I wasn't really surprised by anything. But recently both Big Dragon and Eternal Yesterday have moved me in unexpected ways. Big Dragon because the story ended up being so different, and much more interesting, than the first episode led me to expect, and Eternal Yesterday because I started it having basically no idea what to expect and it's blown me away with it's storytelling and it's weird concept that somehow is tender and heartbreaking and funny and so very human.
What has been the BL that you felt a bit disappointed with this year?
Probably I would say Color Rush. I know it didn't come out this year, but that's when I saw it. It was one of the earliest BLs I watched, and I went into it with high expectations based on hearing great things about it and it just didn't work for me. I was intrigued by the concept, the execution just felt too sketched out to make it work for me. (Also I really wished that the only time it shifted into color was when the dude whose name and sci-fi identity I forget was actually seeing in color, and that it was in black and white for the rest. That alone would have made the world building feel more solid.) That said, I'm curious to re-watch it (since it's so short) and see if my opinion changes with a lot more BL under my belt.
If we're talking shows this year, probably Senpai This Can't Be Love! which started off intriguing, and then just kind of fizzled out. I didn't even watch the last two episodes. War of Y was more frustrating and infuriating, but I didn't have expectations for it in the first place so I wasn't that disappointed.
What has been your favorite BL this year?
AHH! How do I chose??? The ones I've given 10/10 have been: I Told Sunset About You, Bad Buddy, Old Fashion Cupcake, Utsukushii Kare (My Beautiful Man), Semantic Error, Blueming, and To My Star 2: Our Untold Stories. But even though I was a bit frustrated with the ending, the one that felt most like my show as I watched it week to week was The Eclipse. So maybe I will put that.
What are your favorite BL couples (not just of 2022)?
I made another post listing my top ten BL relationships so I will copy and paste it here. I don't know if my "couple" list would be different, but in making this one I was thinking specifically about the way they love each other, and if it felt like a love I believed.
Qi Zhang & Ye Guang (About Youth)
Pat & Pran (Bad Buddy)
Da-woon & Si-won (Blueming)
Mark & Vee (Love Mechanics)
Hira & Kiyoi (Utsukushii Kare/My Beautiful Man)
Nozue & Togawa (Old Fashion Cupcake)
Jae-young and Sang-woo (Semantic Error)
Seo-joon & Ji-woo (To My Star & TMS2)
Fighter & Tutor (Why R U?)
Akk & Ayan (The Eclipse)
I wrote that in October, so I'd now add See-eiw & Cake (My Only 12%) and Yai and Mangkorn (Big Dragon) to the list. And Mitsuru & Koichi (Eternal Yesterday) will probably end up on there once it finishes.
If you had to suggest a BL for someone what would it be?
Hmm. I'm taking this to mean someone who's never seen BL before. Probably Semantic Error or Old Fashion Cupcake. Both are really well crafted series, and are simple but still nuanced and interesting stories. I'd also put Bad Buddy on the list, in some ways it exists in conversation with other Thai BL, but it was the first I watched (besides ITSAY) and it still made sense to me and in a way that made it a good intro to Thai BL. There are many other shows that are a little odder or more difficult (ITSAY, Utsukushii Kare, Blueming) that I think could be a great introduction for the right person, but I wouldn't give them as a blanket rec.
And it's far, far too early to say as it's only been one episode, but if My School President keeps it up, that would be on the list as a tropey Thai high school BL expertly executed.
What's your non-BL favorite for this year?
I have watched very little that wasn't BL this year. But The Devil Judge, despite being pretty obviously a gay romance story under the censorship, isn't technically a BL so I will say that one. If I'm allowed to go back to fall of 2021, (it ended less than a year ago!) I will put Wheel of Time.
Being late to the party means that a lot of you all have done this already, but as far as I could tell @thequeenofsastiel @petrichoraline @iguessitsjustme @biochemjess @bengiyo @benkaaoi @chawarin-panich @asdfghjklmpff @aliceisathome @clairificusrex @respectthepetty @poetry-protest-pornography @waitmyturtleshaven't yet.

MY TOP 20 BL SERIES OF 2022
1. Love Mechanics [thai]
Overall just very well done series. The drama wasn't too silly or frustrating, it had nice kissing scenes and storylines, and YinWar's chemistry is getting better and better which each series they do. I really enjoyed it.
2. Semantic Error [korea]
Love the manga too and thought the tv depiction was nicely done. A bit less racey but that's expected. Korean BL's are my favorite and they are getting better each year. The chemistry bewteen the actors was great too. Plus I just enjoyed the storyline a lot.
3. Not Me [thai]
OMG I loved this one so much. One of Thailand's best imo. I've always liked offgun but this was the series that really pulled me in. They grew so much doing this one and felt more comfortable with each other. Overall, the storyline was just well done and really drew me in, I really loved it more than I was expecting to!
4. Blueming [korea]
Korea does it again. Seriously well done drama, loved the scenerery. I think the chemistry was nice, not my absolute favorite ever, but it was a very cute watch and the love scene was really well done!
5. Minato's Laundromat [japan]
My favorite Japan BL this year. I really liked the chemistry between the leads and the storyline. There were so many adorable scenes and moments and the ending kiss was so cute. Loved it.
6. Cherry Blossoms After Winter [Korea]
Another great Korean drama that first came from a Manga. The manga is definitely worth checking out, its super cute and the adaptation was well done. Not the best chemistry of all time but it was still very nicely done.
7. Old Fashion Cupcake [japan]
There were a few things about this one that threw me off a bit but overall it was a very enjoyable and fun series, I liked the dynamic of the mains, I enjoyed the premise and I liked that they were a bit older too. It was fun.
8. Love is in the Air [thai]
Cheesey at times and not the best story, could be a bit over dramatic, but the chemistry between the main two pairings is what really kept me interested. I love boths ships and the love scenes in this one were... um.... WOW. That's all. lol.
9. Kinnporsche [thai]
Extremly hot series, great production value, love the acting and premise, the dark/gritty vibe of the series was refreshing to watch. I really enjoy BL's with darker storylines. This seires was definitely more humorous than I was expecting. There were some awkward moments and I started losing a tad bit of interest near the end but the earlier episodes were so fun to watch.
10. Mr. Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss [japan]
Japan has some adorable ass BL's, that's for sure, and like SK, they are getting better and better too. This one was just utter adorableness? I really loved it. I found the premise to be super funny and cute. There were def. some weird bits and the kisses could have been better, but oh well.
11. Till the World Ends [thai]
Haven't seen the finale yet, but I found this series very fun and enjoyable. The premise was pretty unique and it just kept me very entertained from beginning to end.
12. My Only 12% [thai]
I LOVED this series in the beginning but the last two episodes were a bit odd with some random drama. I will say that the chemistry between santaearth was SPOT ON in this series. Santa in particular is just utterly adorable! The love scene and close moments were so well done.
13. Choco Milk Shake [korea]
The story was a bit dorky/over the top imo but it was still enjoyable and really cute to watch. I was hoping for more of a poly type thing I guess, but I'll take it for what it was.
14. Star in my Mind [thai]
Okay, so I admit, the storyline wasn't great, but I just adore joongdunk so I am a bit biased. The starting episodes were so good and then it kinda fell flat for me but I did enjoy the series. The side series was decent too. I'm stoked for the new series with these two cuz I think it'll be even better.
15. Kissable Lips [korea]
Vampires, check. Attractive leads, check. Chemistry, check. I love Korean BL's (have I mentioned that) but sadly, the series as a whole was just too short and felt kinda unfinished. Plus the ending not being very happy imo brought it down a tad. But love these two actors together. They were greaat in their other series as well. But I found this one to be a bit more intriguing.
16. Big Dragon [thai]
Chemistry between the leads was the best thing about the series. I also enjoyed the side ship. I thought the series kinda dropped off at the end I didn't enjoy the ending episodes but the earlier ones were really fun to watch and I am excited for season 2.
17. Senpai, This Can't Be Love [japan]
Another cute series from Japan. Not the best of the bunch but I liked the easy, nice, office setting and storyline.
18. Roommates of Poongduck 304 [korea]
Also cute, light, and enjoyable to watch. Not a whole lot else to say. If you haven't seen the behind the scenes kiss though GO DO IT. Best kiss ever?
19. Cutie Pie [thai]
ZeeNunew are just too cute together. Overall, the story kind of dragged in this one but the love scenes kinda made up for it? Shallow I guess lol.
20. Eternal Yesterday [japan]
This one started out strong, and I liked the chemistry between the two. But I didn't love the entire premise of the series. Ghost storylines aren't really my thing and I just knew it was going to end sad, so I couldn't get that invested in it.
Honorable Mentions:
Ghost Host, Ghost House [thai] - I can't rank this one because I've only seen 2 eps. I am enjoying it a lot so far. I didnt watch initially cuz the premise seemed odd but I kinda like how they are doing it and I am excited to watch more episodes.
Miracle of Teddy Bear [Thai] - Weird premise, but I am enjoying it so far. Not worthy of the top 20, I think the episodes are too long and frankly, the one guy constantly yelling and being awful is hard to watch, but I hope the last 6 episodes are decent. I think the concept is unique and the chemistry between the two is nice.
Check Out the Series [Thai] - Have only seen 2 episodes and its okay so far. The chemistry is good, but the plot is a bit slow for me, hope it picks up later. But can't quite judge it yet.
His Man [Korea] - Tehcnically this is not a BL but a reality series in Korea about young gay men trying to find love matches. It was SO good, if anyone is interested, definitely check it out. It was just cute, especially because the relationships were real. The pairing that ended up together at the end was my favorite from day 1, so I was happy. Hope they do a season 2!
Enchante [thai] - I got a bit bored of this series by the end of it but it was still very fun to watch. The storyline went a bit wonky in the end but it was okay. I did like the chemistry between the main two. Excited to see them in their other series later in 2023.
Color Rush 2 [Korea] - Season 2 didnt comprae to season 1, especially with the casting change, but I still enjoyed it. I like this universe and the storyline and the new ship was decent.
My Tooth Your Love [taiwan] - This list tells me that Taiwan needs to step up their BL game! After History and We Best Love (my favorite BL OF ALL TIME!) They haven't had many series I have loved. This one was the best this year. A few others this year were decent but I want more! Overall this series was nicely done. I enjoyed the early episodes a bit better.
Takara-Kun to Amagi-kun [japan] - I didn't seem to enjoy this one as much as other people seemed to. I think maybe I found the dialogue/translations to be a bit off/awkward? Not sure. I loved the dynamic of the main two characters the most, but I prefered some other Japanese BL's. But it was a fun watch.
Secret Crush on You [thai] - This show was so cringey at times, and the storyline was just overall a bit weird, but it was like a trainwreck that I coudln't stop watching and the chemsitry between the main two is just good... so, at least there was that.
Love Class [korea] - Honestly don't rememebr this series well enough to give a proper ranking but I think I enjoyed it haha.
Once Again [korea] - See above. I think this was the one about time travel? It was good, but didn't capture me like other Korean BLs normally do.
Plus and Minus [taiwan] - A tad less interesting than My Tooth Your Love, but more interesting than For Youth lol. The main actors dating in real life is HELLA ADORABLE THO.
Mr. Cinderella [vietnam] - The only Vietnamese BL to make the list. Bless the one company and actor who continue to release drama's for us. Sadly, I dont enjoy most of them as they feel a bit cheesey and unprofessional. This series though, I enjoyed the most so far.
The Eclipse [thai] - People love this series, but for me, it was just okay. It had nice moments and nice chemistry but overall I didnt love the storyline. Sorry friends! Excited for the new series with the main two though.
I did watch quite a few more BL's that didn't make my list, so it's possible I forgot something, but either they weren't that memorable or they were just okay for me. Some of the series I watched in 2022 came out earlier than 2022. So I didn't include them even if I watched them this year.
Here are the BL's I REALLY didn't enjoy. I can elaborate if anyone is interested...
Tuxedo The Series - enjoyed the chemsitry of the main two but the abuse I just couldn't look past. And the storyline fell flat.
To My Star 2 - Loved part 1, it's one of my fav. bls of all time but I hated what they did in season 2. They completely ruined one of the characters for me and I just couldn't get past it, despite their hot makeout at the end lol.
180 Degress Longitude Between Us - I admit, parts were well done, but I found it utterly boring 90% of the time and I didnt enjoy the relationship between the two, I found the age difference a bit off putting. IDK, something about the story just didn't grab me.
Fahlanruk the Series - So bad. Started out fine, but the constant abuse and yelling was just too damn much for me. I couldn't get into it.
Oh My Assisant- Worst korean bl I've seen so far. The SL was just so flat and the ending was really lame. I am sorry, this was a bust for me.
I am currently watching My School President and Never Let Me Go and OBSESSSING over them. So good and cute so far. I'm also enjoying Candy Color Paradox, The New Employee and The Director Who Buys me Dinner... all super fun and cant wait to see more eps as well as more dramas in 2023!
I will probably go back through shows from 2021 and make a list there as well since that is when I started watching BL. I will also make a list from my fav shows that were released prior to 2021 just for the fun of it!
Also check out my lists from other years! https://gothicbarbie.tumblr.com/post/705678223200174080/my-top-bls-of-2019-and-earlier https://gothicbarbie.tumblr.com/post/705674738528354304/my-top-15-bls-of-2020

Imma rant about a show I haven't ranted about here before; Ducktales! (The new version)
I really like the 2017(?) Ducktales. The show looks nice, voices are great, storyline is interesting and jokes are funny. I find most episodes highly entertaining but there is one episode spesifically that was just a huge dissapointment. S3, ep 3; "Double-O-Duck in you only crash twice!"
After quick research it has come to my atenttion that Double-O-Duck is a character many fans knew already. Having this information earlier might have made my watching experience a bit nicer than what it was.
You see, the person who did the title translations in Finland, was clearly out for blood. They translated the name Double-O-Duck as Double Duck.
I have read through countless amount of Donald Duck comics and my favorites have always been the ones were our loveable, clumsy and unlucky protagonist is secretly working as a spy called Double Duck! We get those unlucky, clumsy moments but also action scenes, cool bad guys, plot twist and the good old fashioned spy movie feel that is created by suits, gadgets and secret names. Whats not to love?
So there I was, browsing trough Disney plus, when I saw new episodes had finally come. I read trought the titles and what do I see? I spy episode with a character that is suposedly Double Duck! I did not, however, read the description as I didn't want to get the slightest bit of spoilers.
You can imagine my disapointment when the episode was nothing, NOTHING like I had expected and I do mean that in the worst way possible.
It wasn't that the episode was bad, I just couldn't shake off my dissapointment. I really tought I'd see Donald get his own episode where he can be pretty much the cooles Duck alive! There are some good Donald episodes where he shows off his adventure skills but this would have been his own little secret. Double Duck means a lot to me. I loved, no I still love those comics. I remember playing this Double Duck game as a kid that I just loved. The game is no longer a thing, just a memory. And when I finally tought my fave spy was gonna get shown on screen, welp, I ended up dissapointed and sad.

REACTIONS TO EPISODE 3 - ONE'S JUSTICE (... like the game?!)
That is a joke, folks. If I get "This chapter came before the game" or some other stupid reply I'm deleting it and blocking you. It is a JOKE.
Still salty from... nevermind...
You all know the drill, my reactions are genuine and played for laughs! Don't take them too seriously. Some of you need to be told this for anything, honestly.
Before we get into the episode, folks!
Look, I am aware that because of what happened some people hate Hawks and love Twice, and vice versa. Personally, I'm pretty neutral on the situation for the fact that it can be interpreted in many different ways so therefore I'm 🤷🏿‍♀️. I don't hate either character.
With that, it's been MONTHS since I got any message in my inbox of any hero or villain slander and I would love to keep it that way.
I already made a post about how I think it's very stupid that people have to choose sides because others insist they do. If you like Hawks, you like Hawks. If you like Twice, you like Twice. Let it be.
Harassing people over who their favorite character is because you hate the character is by far one of the stupidest, most pathetic thing you can do in this fandom and in other fandoms. Just don't interact with that person and call it a day!
LAST EPISODE'S REACTIONS!
NOW TO THE REACTIONS!!
I won't lie, I wasn't expecting a recap again but I'm glad they replayed that scene when Eraser Head tripped the Doctor.
Intro a banger as always!
When Re-Destro stressed out! 🤣 Man's went from 🙂 to 😠 and the delivery was *chef's kiss*. HILARIOUS!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edgeshot coming in with the killer move. "Move, you die. Try me, bitch." Okay, he didn't say that. Still though! I love Edgeshot.
"It's called Electrification?" What if Kaminari called it something else?! Huh?! Like Wattz?!
I forgot how acrobatic Midnight is... GO, QUEEN!! THAT FLIP!
If Curious hadn't died, I'm sure an interview between her and Midnight would be a fun one.
"Stay still and have a nice nap." Again, GO, QUEEN! Second, Midnight really out here "Take your ass to sleep" on people when you think about it! XD
Tumblr media
KAMUI WOODS!!!
YES, MUDMAN REPRESENT 1B!!! REPRESENT!!
SHEMAGE, YES!! CLASS 1B, REPRESENT!!!
For anyone new, yes, I love 1B just as much as I love 1A.
*Shows Twice and Hawks* Hello Darkness my old friend...
Skeptic grinding his teeth was funny to me. He's like so irritated. Drop your hair care routine, my guy.
Twice was so scared and Hawks looks like an absolute menace! *shivers*
You know what, I love Twice, I do. But Hawks had a point about his quirk. If the cards were played right in the villains' hands sooner, Japan could have already be in absolute chaos. Luckily, Twice's clones are actually easy to wipe out with large attacks and well, Twice is Twice. Seriously, how can you hate the guy?
Just saying, even though Hawks looks downright scary... that shot of him staring out through the darkness has meme potential.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I cried a little when Twice started to break down. HE CARES FOR HIS FRIENDS! HE CARES!! He blames himself for the Overhaul deal, and not once have I recalled the others in the LOV actually blame him which is so heartwarming and heartbreaking.
He thought it would be too sad had he not been welcoming to Hawks.
"You were just unlucky." Well, DAMN!
That's the thing with these characters. No character is really too good or too bad. Some of the villains show "heroic" traits. Some of the heroes show "villainous" traits. That's why I say we shouldn't have to choose which side we're on because it's not all black and white.
"You're a good person." Oooh, and there goes my feels. 😭😭😭
Okay, thanks to the Hawks and Twice scene, I had whiplash when it went to the other heroes because uh... what the hell is that??
Tumblr media
VAST HYBRID: CHIMERA CENTAUR!!! LET'S GO, SUNEATER!!! YOU'RE DOING GREAT, SWEETIE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"So cool! Say it again!" "Leave me alone!" Oh, Suneater!... relatable...
DARK SHADOW!!
FATAXI! I love how Tokoyami is just sitting there. Tiny little guy. Like even compared to his classmates, he's short.
"I'll become an even stronger hero." Yes. I believe in you, my goth bird son!
Oh! Twice got a half time cut title card! First villain, too, for this season! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Tumblr media
Oooh... nope, nope, nope. I refuse to cry. I refuse... and the tears are coming... 😭😭😭
"... to protect everyone's happiness!" DAMN IT!! HOW CAN YOU NOT CARE A LITTLE?! HE JUST WANTS HAPPINESS!! HE WANTS HIS FRIENDS TO HAVE HAPPINESS!! THIS IS SO FUCKING UNFAIR!
"Twice, you did nothing wrong." See? Dabi cares!!!
Okay, the whole Dabi & Twice vs Hawks scene, still in my feels! So intense! That blue is BEAUTIFUL!
BUT! How did Dabi know his name... probably did his own research, I don't recall. Maybe Skeptic with his nosy ass.
As sad as that scene is... that poo line got a chuckle out of me. I forgot about that line!
Toga's reaction is just... I just got up. I need to lay back down.
WOW!! They made basically a tribute to Twice in the ending song! Anybody else notice?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall Opinion? MY FEELINGS ARE HURT!! I'M CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING, WE'RE ALL CRYING!! COMPOSED THE MUSIC FOR THIS EPISODE DESERVES AN AWARD, DAMN IT!!! THE POWER IN THAT MUSIC! CLAP IT UP FOR THE CAST AND ANIMATORS! Seriously, can we appreciate them at least?!
As much as people complain about BONES, same energy should go into at least complimenting the creative team. Like Twice's VA, Daichi Endou, fabulous performance! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Excited to see what more goes down in the next episode!! "INHERITANCE" LET'S GOOOO!!!

Getting To Know Your BL Mutuals
I was tagged by @gunsatthaphan thank you so much! I've never done one of these before, but it seems fun.
So here I go. rules: answer the questions and @ some people. include the tag 'g2ky BL mutuals 2022' on your post so we can find everyone's answer.
What have been the BLs that took you by surprise this year?
1. Between Us - I had to drop UWMA because I couldn't handle how hard Pharm was playing into the Blushing Maiden trope. Boy really just looked like he did not enjoy the physical part of their relationship at all, and it made it uncomfortable to watch. Also the reincarnated soulmate tragic death bit was just not doing it for me. I was afraid Between Us would be more of the same, BUT IT'S NOT! It's actually really good so far and Win and Team have explosive on screen chemistry. I guess all the work Boun and Prem have done together since 2019 has really paid off!
2. Old Fashion Cupcake - Mostly because I'd never heard of it. It just showed up on my Viki recommendations one day and was exactly what I was in the mood for. As always with Japan, the production values are perfect, the cinematography is excellent, and the acting was brilliant. I also loved seeing a romantic lead who was 39. (I'm 46, so it's nice to see representation nearer my age!)
3. My Only 12% - I generally dislike High School BLs because their characters are younger than my sons and it's hard for me to relate unless their acting is surprisingly good. And that's what happened here! SantaEarth knocked it out of the park. I laughed with them, cried with them, oooed and awed with them. They really made me feel it all!
What have been the BLs that you felt a bit a lot disappointed with this year?
1. Check Out - I mean, episode 0 was killer. How did they drop the ball this badly???
2. Coffee Melody - It started out with pretty production values and made me hope everything would be equally as excellent. But it was just so boring.
What has been your favorite BL this year?
Hard call! I think I have to answer this by country because they all approach BL so differently. Also only addressing shows that started airing in 2022, so that automatically removes Bad Buddy and Not Me from the running.
Japan - Old Fashion Cupcake. See above!
South Korea - Semantic Error. I was afraid of the bullying plot, but when I watched it, it just seemed funny. They somehow struck that magic balance of making Jae Young irritating and attractive without being an actual asshole. Plus I loved the excellent production values, tight plotting, hilarious dialog, Yu Na being a hot af bisexual babe, and the excellent kissing game our leads brought to the screen.
Thailand - Kinnporsche the Series. I liked the way they improved so much of the gross from the books so the story made more sense and wasn't as offensive. But I really enjoyed the excellent cinematography, the acting from literally every cast member, and the distinctly Thai humor. It's also obviously very big budget and just LOOKS expensive, you know? Like something I'd see on American or Korean TV. Even the violence looks real, which is something Thailand usually has a very hard time pulling off. Plus the cast is just so pretty. I'm also a huge sucker for darker narratives, so it was refreshing to see one mixed in with so many fun BL tropes. I expected to be massively disappointed by this drama and was pleasantly surprised instead.
Favorite BL couples (not just of 2022)?
Actors or characters? I want to answer actors because that's more fun to me.
1. I am forever indebted to MaxTul because I really needed to see their steamy physical chemistry back in 2018. My intro to BL happened when I stumbled upon Advance Bravely on YouTube. It was so much fun to see fanfic tropes between two men! But the ending was wonky AF because of Chinese censorship. So I asked around on Tumblr for more manly men doing fanfic shows, and found out that BL was a whole Thing and the epitome of manliness was in Together with Me. Was the girlfriend plot obnoxious? Yes. Did MaxTul deliver believable chemistry anyway? Yes. If I hadn't seen them, I probably would have given up on BL because the next few I watched didn't do it for me at all (Love Sick, Sotus, Puppy Honey, Kiss Me Again). But because I knew couples like MaxTul were out there acting their hearts out, I made it through my BL dryspell and into 2019 and shows that I actually did love (like Theory of Love and Deep Blue Kiss).
2. Offgun because they clearly enjoy each other's company, they're in it for the long haul, and their fans aren't rabid shippers. Gun's acting was always leagues beyond his co-stars, but Off has completely risen to that challenge and become formidable in his own right. I also adore how Gun has clearly melted Off's heart over the years. Watching his real life evolution from being touch averse to actually initiating physical intimacy with Gun over the years is like watching a slow burn 140k+ word fanfic unfold right in front of me. I think their fans not straying into delusionally obsessed crazies is also a sign that they're good guys managing their coupledom like pros.
3. FirstKhao because they surprised me so much with The Eclipse. I knew they were decent actors on their own, but together they're 🔥🔥🔥. Also I really enjoy their personalities outside of their performances. I am excited they decided to cobrand, and I am hoping to see more stellar acting from them in the future!
What's your non-BL favorite this year?
Oooo. This is hard! Do I answer based on how many times I re-watched a 2022 show, or how high quality I think it was, or how well I rated it?
Sh**ting Stars wins if we're talking about the number of times I re-watched it. It's a no drama romcom from South Korea. A celebrity and his PR manager have been frenemies for a decade then realize they're in love. It's got killer banter and good side characters, is laugh out loud funny, has no annoying tropes, and has 5 side couples (and you will root for all of them).
But based on acting and script and cinematography? My Liberation Notes knocked it out of the park! It's a slice of life South Korean drama. 3 siblings in their 30s feel stuck by life. The youngest decides to liberate herself from disliking everyone by choosing to like a nameless stranger unconditionally. This is the story of the ripple effects from that one decision.
Time to tag people! (not sure if all of these are mutuals but imma tag you either way so deal with it!! 💜)

Bob's Burgers: The (Raccoon) King and I (14x07)
This one was so fun! The return of Little King Trash-Mouth!
Cons:
I don't really have many complaints, other than that I thought the shenanigan-level could have been higher with the kids? When Louise realized her bid to sell a concert experience for candy wasn't going to work out as planned, I was sort of expecting her to go way more wild with it. I wanted those kids sneaking around backstage, tripping over wires, interrupting the concert, all that jazz. As it was, it was a dinky little subplot that was just fine, but nothing special or memorable.
Pros:
In the main story of the episode, Linda discovers that her favorite raccoon friend has a hurt paw, and calls Animal Control for help. Teddy then informs her that Animal Control isn't going to help Little King Trash-Mouth, but rather take him away and kill him as a pest! The rest of the episode features Linda, with help from Tina and Teddy, trying to keep their poor raccoon friend away from the Animal Control worker who is just trying to do her job. In the end, we see our raccoon friend reunite with his partner Gary, which is so heartwarming! I actually smiled with real affection when I saw them nuzzling faces like that.
This was a good use of Teddy, I feel, I liked that he was backing Linda up and trying to help but also just kind of confused about the situation. And Tina pretending to have won the lottery to provide a distraction was pretty funny.
Bob's plot thread was a quieter, more contemplative one that I really enjoyed. He's excited to see a band come through and perform on the street that had one big hit back in the day. The band is still together touring, and Bob thinks this is inspirational. That is, until the tour manager comes in and tells him that the whole group is miserable. Imagine just doing the same thing over and over and over for the rest of your life, knowing you'll never do anything new or innovative again... Bob flashes forward to the thought of growing old making burgers, and it majorly bums him out.
But then? When the band gets to their one big hit, the manager says that sometimes they have a great time: sometimes everything clicks into place and the music is flowing and the crowd is locked in, and they remember why they were passionate about this in the first place. And Bob is invigorated by this thought, that even if his life becomes a drudgery some of the time, he will have moments of passion in his chosen career. I don't know, I just found that kind of moving! It feels true to my own experience with some things in life, where I know a lot of things will be more of the same, but I'll have these shining moments of connection and joy that light up the rest of my life around it.
So that's that! A fun episode. It almost felt like the stuff with the band and the stuff with the raccoon could have been two separate A-plots in two separate episodes rather than both happening here, but for what we got, I really did enjoy it!
8.5/10

top 5 bfu episodes: can be both true crime and supernatural
this is gonna be a toughie (and i’m mostly basing this on pure personal preference and history with the ep) but here goes...
SPN
5. the toxic woman (after watching this episode i brought it up to my chem teacher. as it turned out, he’d heard about the toxic woman case! and i asked him if we could talk about it in class later in the year. we never got anywhere near that level of advanced chemistry in class but i like to think that we shared a bonding moment that day.) 4. annaliese michel (in a series full of quotations and stock photos, it is nice to hear authentic audio from a the scene of an old case) 3. bigfoot: the convincing evidence (it’s a cryptid episode! those are always great) 2. lizzie borden (i was a massive bordenhead growing up. of course it appeals to me. also, it’s a double-whammy of an unsolved murder and ghost-hunting) 1. 3 horrifying cases of ghosts and demons (i mean... could it be anything else?)
TC
5. jack the ripper (i do love how they had a fuck-ton of suspects and most of them were plausible. you can’t say that for a lot of true crime eps. also... it’s jack the ripper. it’s the unsolved murder case.  4. poisoned pill murders (a very interesting case. also, this was the first episode that i saw right when it came out, so it’s kinda my milestone from “watches this show casually” to “actively follows it”) 3. JFK (sometimes you wanna hear about some small-town crime or an obscure little case. but sometimes you wanna go big or go home) 2. d.b. cooper (a fun ep for an enigmatic guy. also, the line “i’m a mystery man, give me a bourbon” was where i got half my url from!) 1. the axeman (i think this was the first BFU episode i ever watched all the way through. it’s got a special place in my heart. also it has razor boy)

Dramas I finished in 2021
This is the first year I dropped more than I finished, and I took a reaaaally long break after Broker because...it broke me.
Currently watching and enjoying Luoyang but likely won't finish it this year so I'll save it for next year's wrap-up.
Listed in order of how much I liked them - ymmv.
Word of Honor - (5/5) we all loved this so I don't have to write my own redundant review detailing point by point why it rocked. Thank you WoH team for making an excellent wuxia. Early on everyone was selling this as 'omg, watch it it's so gaaaAAYyyy' which (yes it was and yes that was fun but...) more than that it was so well written it still brings a tear to my eye. See, it's possible. It's possible to have a well-written cdrama that is simultaneously fun and doesn't insult the audience's intelligence. Sure, I also like the actors but my hero is the writer, Xiao Chu. 💌
The Imperial Coroner (4.5/5)- a surprise delight that didn't rely on tropes to move the plot along or get certain characters together. Well paced, decent acting, fun characters, and a plot that actually kind of made sense. Both male and female characters act like...humans? not cardboard cutouts. Hm, I wonder if... yes. The screenwriters were both women - suspicious. Low-budget but made the most of it. Yes, it is very anachronistic (regardless of which vague time period it's supposed to be set in) but still cute and a quick watch.
Dear Diary (4.5/5) - Don't let the ridiculous premise, or the fact that Youku shelved it for years, keep you from watching this. Though superficially it's a romance, the underlying theme of the drama is about learning to accept and embrace your younger self. The plot basically makes sense and the acting from everyone is fabulous. The supporting characters are real and enjoyable. Pacing is tight, and they film on locations!? (except for one cheap set which we'll just ignore). There are a few more plot holes near the end but in general touching, oddly relatable, and the ending is not trite or stupid! Oh wait I'm 3/3 the screenwriter is a woman.
Duolou Continent (3.5/5) Cute characters and enough action/fights to keep me content (though the whole spiritual sausage thing was....a little gross tbh.) I'm not familiar with the source material so can't compare, but it was on the whole fun and in terms of low-budget costume dramas with Xiao Zhan worth a watch. Moved pretty well, though episodes were short. Was very happy to see Calvin Chen (who I only know from KO One) and his surprise six-pack, lol.
My Heroic Husband (3.5/5)- watched because it included many actors from Joy of Life. It mostly held together and was funny in places - I do love a dumb time-traveler joke (the wheeled suitcase was my favorite gag by far.) My main complaint is the FL was unnecessarily weakened/sidelined as the show went on - you don't have to have a helpless wife to be a heroic husband, ok? I feel strange saying it but there could've been more....business focus?? weird. It also indulged in one of my least favorite tear-jerking plot devices (unsure if it's common enough to be a trope but I hates it.)
The Legends (2019) (3.5/5)- yes this is a couple years old but since I like both Xu Kai and Bai Lu, and it's a wuxia...veering into xianxia... gave it a try. The first 12? 14? eps are brilliant. Loved it. FL is written more like a man - morally questionable! smart! independent! but then gradually the plot and characterizations fall apart. I've been informed this was intentional on the part of the writer which is too bad. Some of the secondary characters/relationships are also really good.
Court Lady (3/5)- wasn't sure what to expect, mostly watched for the costumes, setting, and Xu Kai (the first two were solid....last reason was ill informed since he wasn't in it that much and his character was...meh.) The costumes and hair were amazing (sets - a bit anachronistic) in general the art direction was pretty good, but still not Longest Day in Chang'An good. They did ok with the female characters, making them more well-rounded and interesting, but the FL was maybe a bit too too clever/lucky. There were soooo many eps and it followed so many character's sub-plots I kinda lost interest but powered through to the end despite a bit of boredom. Favorite characters were (as usual) secondary. The HE was rushed and cliche and strangely unsatisfying.
The Devil Punisher (3/5)(TW) - started in 2020, finished in 21. Premise was solid but - it was just ok. I enjoy a good cheesily-acted Taiwanese drama now and again. Too much use of misunderstandings between the CP trope - and I don't really like a love rivalry as the main plot device when it could've been something way cooler. Honestly with the longer 1hr plus episodes I may have nodded off during some of the later eps since it didn't entirely hold my interest after we found out (not a shock) who the villain was.
Movies
Including for completeness: both Yin-Yang master movies. I liked the one with Mark Chao and Deng Lun more - it was visually really pretty (are they purposefully making movies giff-able in the same way museums are making some exhibitions instagrammable now??) and I liked the plot. The one with Chen Kun was more of a family movie I guess?? anyway they were both ok.

Summary:
On her sixteenth birthday, orphan Himari Momochi inherits her ancestral estate that she's never seen. Momochi House exists on the barrier between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is meant to act as guardian between the two worlds. But on the day she moves in, she finds three handsome squatters already living in the house, and one seems to have already taken over her role!
Plot Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ /5 Character Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Romance Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5 Would I Recommend? Yes
What I Liked:
The characters are cute, funny, and with detailed backstories that help them to be very interesting in their own ways. The shikigami were the comedic relief for the majority of the series but they each held their own dark secrets that made them carry a shadow of mystery. Aoi and Himari are also very bubbly happy-go-lucky teenagers who also carry a burden trudged from their past.
Wonderful world building with establishing Momochi House as the "haunted house" at the top of the mountain with an entire active village below that ties nicely into the series. It felt like a real place sometimes, as if inspired by a childhood home.
There were a few chapters that managed to steal some tears. At one point I thought a cute romantic fantasy story has no right to be this sad. Prepare a box of tissues for volume two.
What I Didn't Like:
There were a few important plot arcs that ended without resolution or explanation that left me very confused. I waited until the end to see if they were brought up again but they didn't. They were left unfinished in the middle of the series which bothered me, especially since they were directly important to the main characters.
The ending played out how I expected. It was a nice ending but I wish it wasn't as predictable.
My Thoughts:
I'm not sure what inspired me to pick up this series but I'm glad I did. It was a very cute read all the way to the end with many pleasant surprises sprinkled throughout. The characters were very fun to experience. Their dynamic is more found family which made their interactions all the sweeter.
I very quickly fell in love with Ise. He is my favorite character in this manga series. I love this angsty orangutan with a reluctant soft spot for his friends, your honor.
Tumblr media
As cute and romantic as this series is, there were several episodes that covered dark and serious issues such as suicide and child predatory behavior.
Volume two emotionally wrecked me with chapter five. The Lantern Procession is an event where those lost to suicide pass through the Momochi House. An ayakashi, Zushi, tried his best to see his sister who walked in the Procession. He tried to get her attention so they could meet again. I'm starting to cry just thinking about it. That would mean he lost his sister to suicide and now this is the only time he can see her again.
Tumblr media
Not to mention the cliffhanger of a lifetime in volume four. That had me running and stumbling for volume five.
For most of the series I eagerly reached for each volume excited to read on. I loved the characters, the story, the romance, and the funny quirky moments thrown in that reminded me to smile.
While I loved it there were also several things that made me question the series.
Aoi entered the Momochi house as a child and since then had been trapped there, having been selected as the next Nue to protect the house and its gates. Because of this he didn't have much socialization and couldn't finish school. He was essentially a young child in a 17 year old's body. When Himari learned of his story she thought the same thing, that he hasn't had the chance to emotionally mature. Aoi reminds me of Damon from Ghost Wife (Webtoons). Himari almost had to teach Aoi how to behave himself and how to respect boundaries. Although he is a very kind and selfless boy he's also immature and Himari calls him out for it.
There were also major plot trails that went dead without a proper conclusion. I waited until the very end to see if they were revisited or mentioned but alas, they were dropped for good. Which is really sad considering one plot thread revolved around Himari's mysterious past. With Himari being an orphan with an unexpected deed to an enchanted house I hoped we'd find out more about her parents and her connection to the house. Unfortunately that trail runs cold and after Himari makes a difficult decision that directly impacts revealing her past, we never truly know what happened to her parents.
Not to mention the lost progression with Aoi's friend Hidaka and the abrupt conclusion to Kasha. Both arcs were very important and impacted both Aoi and Himari's futures and both arcs just - ended. I'm still trying to piece together how a power-hungry demon with nothing but time and the same skills as the Nue could just give up after a fight that mimicked so many others they've had previously.
Speaking of Kasha, that demon is a creep. He gives me major pedophile vibes and I want nothing to do with him. He's not even that cunning. He can outsmart two human teenagers as if that's even a feat. Aoi and Himari were oblivious to each other's feelings for the majority of the series even though they slept together, I don't think it would take much to fool them into another supernatural trap.
Plus, the majority of their fights were won with the power of love and it got boring really fast. The Nue fought diligently all the while telling Himari to stay behind where it was safe but every single time she ran to his side instead. I'm so confused by how a hug could win a fight. So many fights were won with her declaring her love. How?!
Tumblr media
Then my interest began to wane around volume 12. The plot got buried under side stories and it became difficult to keep up. I had to remember where they left off with a certain situation from a few volumes back when it was readdressed later. The plot became blury near the end and I didn't know what everything was amounting to (other than Aoi and Himari being together).
Overall; It's a cute short fantasy read with very likable characters and a good mixture of emotional content and comedic moments. I'm glad it was only 16 volumes.

Book Review — Manga Edition: Dragon Ball Volumes 1 , 2 , and 3 by Akira Toriyama
this is my first book review! or manga more like it, either way, it’s a book.
I’m going to let you all know that I grew up watching the show / series so I will be a bit biased when it comes to giving a review, but it will be honest nonetheless.
So let’s get started!
Disclaimer: This is all based off of my opinion. I am not a professional book critic or manga critic at that. This is all for fun!
Tumblr media
Quick story: I found this book when I was on vacation with my boyfriend in San Diego, and we went to Barnes and Noble on a bit of a trip. I was curious to see what they had in the manga section and wanted to know if they had any DB or Yu-Gi-Oh (they did indeed had ygo!)! So I snatched them.
It took me a while to finish this manga only because I wanted to enjoy the fantastic art Toriyama had done and soak in the world of DB on manga. Also, I only had volumes 1-3; I'm too broke to buy the rest.
First Impressions:
well, as I mentioned before, I was and still am a fan of anime; so, when I got my hands on this, I was pretty excited!
Upon opening the manga, you are presented with young Goku from the cover, black and white on the inside color, which I thought was a pretty cool contrast from the exterior.
the back cover blurb definitely catches any kid's attention or adult for that matter -- asking the stereotypical "What do you get when you bring together?" Sounds like the beginning of a cheesy joke, and then it goes on to list things that sound cool.
The first tale of the manga is presented in color! Which I loved! I got to see how Toriyama envisioned the world in color. The only downside is I thought the entire manga was going to be in color, so it fooled me...
Art and Writing:
I love Toriyama's art style. He is good at creating likable characters or dislikable ones based off of how he draws them. To be fair, there isn't a single character I dislike so far in the first three volumes. Even if I dislike them a lot, Toriyama does an excellent job of drawing them in his style that it's hard to dislike them properly.
Not sure what I mean? Let me explain, I'm not a big fan of Pilaf, but he is drawn very well and cutely -- I may add -- that it's hard to properly dislike him.
He is also really good at drawing facial features. Not once did I not laugh or giggle at an exaggerated moment or facial expression in the manga. He is really good at portraying those emotions for his characters.
The writing, man, do I love the writing! It's so funny! I found myself laughing a lot throughout the manga, laughing at the peculiar things Goku or his friends say.
I have many moments that stick out to me, but my favorite is when Emperor Pilaf captures Bulma and threatens her by doing something horrid and unimaginable. Of course, this prompts the readers and characters to imagine something so to happen to Bulma. The 'horrible act' Pilaf was talking about was simply blowing her a kiss! I laughed so hard (even though I knew it was coming, I saw the anime remember?) because the last thing I would have thought of was a blown kiss being considered so vile and horrid.
Manga v. Anime:
one of the biggest things I noticed off of the bat was the dialogue change.
Certain words were changed to meet the tv standards during the time the anime aired.
instead of "why would I wanna see your dirty butt?" Goku in the anime says, "what do I care about seeing your dirty old fanny?" of course, I understand that this is done so that the VO actors can match the character's lip flaps on screen. But I still decided to mention it.
One thing I really didn't like about the anime was that there were more Pilaf-centered episodes. He annoys me. I expected the manga to have the same, but boy, I was glad when Pilaf was only present in maybe 3-4 tales.
Rating:
As I have mentioned initially, I grew up watching anime, so I was excited to read the manga and wasn't disappointed.
It was an excellent refresher to watch the original source material. It was really nice because I forgot something happened in the anime!
I have always been told and sometimes believe it's better to read the source material first and then watch the tv/movie adaptation, but I'm glad I didn't.
I can hear the VO actor's voices when I read the manga, and I had double the fun!
So without further ado...
I give it a big fat five stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you all for joining my TedTalk! This has been my first book/manga review!
Please like, comment, and reblog if you enjoyed reading this! Also, feel free to add your own opinions or strike up a conversation with me regarding all things DB!
I am currently reading Stephen King's A Memoir of the Craft: On Writing. I plan to write a review of it as well, and I am also re-reading Twilight, so I'll review that as well! My next manga is the love of my life, Yu-Gi-Oh! Atem here I come!
Please follow me for more writing and grammar tips and more!

Falling for the popular nerd part 2
Eric x reader
A/n; sorry for so many delays ive been having some tonsil pain or glands that I wasn't expecting and ugh it's weird. :((
@thefeetlesfan ♥️hope y'all like this.
Summary : your date with Eric after you meet him and his group of friends. You let your nerdy side come out even though you are Rich and Jackie doesn't approve. Will you and Eric be able to date? Donna and Eric are broken up this is around kinda where she started dating Casey but I'm not really making it one specific episode or anything. Enjoy and hello Wisconsin!!!!!
Tumblr media
It was finally the day of your "date with Eric." The only person you could really tell was your mom but then she was over protective, about being with a guy alone. You were beyond excited. You could really be yourself around him. I mean of course you were still nervous as hell and worried wheather you looked good or not.
The hub
3:30 pm 1977
You walked in seeing Eric at the counter.
"hey y/n I got us a table."
"oh thanks. What a gentleman." He walked you over holding out your seat for you.
"that is i... You look really nice by the way."
"thank you", you blushed. "So how was school?"
"oh you know same old same old. Homework yay." You laughed.
After a little while he asked if you wanted to go see the new movie coming out.
"yeah sure im down."
"great so what that'll be our second date??" He asked.
"oh these are dates???" You asked bewildered.
"uh- uh no I -."
"Eric I'm kidding, this was a great first date. Im having a great time."
"oh good. Yeah- yeah I knew that." You both laughed it "well what was your favorite movie from last year? Besides star wars of course."
"well Rocky, but freaky Friday was great."
"but not as great as Rocky man. Hey what did you think of The Omen??"
"oh that movie was amazing. So many deaths, it was crazy."
"I think it was about like what 7 or 8?"
"10 but who was counting right? Haha" You gave him a cute smile, both of you laughing it off again.
"wow, see you are just so awesome."
"Thank you! So are you."
"thanks. well hey it's getting late, can I drive you home??."
"Sure. I would love that." You got out your wallet to distribute to the date.
"oh no please I got this y/n."
~~~
You walked into Eric's basement seeing the whole gang.
"hey Eric ready to go?" You ask your date.
"uh where are you guys going??" Jackie asked.
"to the movies?"
"as like a date?" Michael asked.
"no." You said, looking at Eric with soft eyes. Both of you knew that each of your groups were gonna make a big deal.
"well it seems that way. "
" guys we were just going out to hang."
"well if it's not a date then why don't we all come." Your eyes widened.
"okay. Yeah.. fine." Eric said. Everyone got up walking to the door Eric whispered sorry in your ear.
~~~
The movie was hard to watch with them talking and getting out of the car.
"Eric you took her to the drive in because you were so gonna make out with her."
He closed his eyes for a quick second. "no I wasn't."
"yeah right."
"Kelso shut up." Hyde smacked him in the arm.
"OWW."
~~~~
Eric drove everyone home and you were the second drop off.
"well I had ... fun thanks for taking me Eric. Have a good night"
"no problem and yeah me too. Night y/n."
"oh she is totally into you." Hyde said. "thanks for taking me." Donna and Hyde mimicked you with a high pitched voice.
"yeah she was practically throwing herself at you."
"Michael!! No she wasn't she is popular she doesn't want to go out with a nerd. We've already been through this."
"well yeah but we've ALREADY been on a date so ha Jackie suck on that."
"ew, When?"
"Two weeks ago."
"oh we are so gonna have a talk about that y/n!"
"or maybe you should just let them date. Who cares, Jackie you can't choose who dates who. This isn't a soap. Especially with these nerds."
"well, no offense Eric but I didn't like the way you treated Donna so I'm just looking out for my friend."
~~~~~
You're putting out the trash when Jackie walked over to you.
"why didn't you tell me you were going on a date with Eric?!! And that you already went on one?"
"well to be fair you were exactly being nice to Eric when we were trying to talk."
"I'm never nice to him." You sighed.
"Jackie, you don't think Eric is a good match just because he isn't rich, but that doesn't matter to me. He's cool and funny."
"Are we talking about the same Eric?"
"Jackie!"
"look, I get you like him somehow, but I just don't want to see you get hurt the same way Donna did."
"I think that's one of the nicest things you've ever said that wasn't about yourself."
"don't push it."
"thank you Jackie. I really appreciate you looking out for me, I don't know if he'll hurt me and if he does then I guess it's better than not trying with him. So you approve now?"
"well I don't approve but I think he makes you happy. If he hurts you I'll get Hyde to beat him up."
Haahah you laughed and hugged Jackie.
'thanks Jackie."
~~~~
You were hanging out at Eric's basement with the gang laughing while playing a game.
"man this is great. Look at all the happy couples. Jackie and hyde, Michael and Brooke, Donna and Casey, Eric and y/n and for Fez? I get no one. It's not fair!"
"aw Fez don't worry you just haven't really met anyone outside your circle you need to go mingle."
"hmm I guess your right. I'm going to go to the hub then! Don't wait up for me losers."
"I like his spirit."
"we should all go on a triple double date!" Michael said.
"ummm-"
Hyde stopped you, "let him have this."
Eric: "I mean I'm down."
You looked at him and smiled "me too."
"yeah let's do it."
"hey y/n it's almost 8:00 want me to drive you home?"
"yes please thank you. Bye guys."
~~~
You guys were singing some songs on the way there laughing hysterically, after 7 mins Eric pulled up to your house.
"you know, not to be all sappy and everything but you really do make me happy and actually have fun. I'm hoping you just don't ruin it by being a serial killer."
"you never know I might have stuff hidden in my basement."
"nah just the money in your Candy land game."
"wait you know about that too??"
"noooo..." You shook your head making you both laugh.
"no but seriously, I really like you and I feel the same way." Eric said.
"well I'm glad we're on one the same page then." You smiled evilly leaning in, Eric doing the same. It was a great kiss. His lips were so soft and you had butterflies in your stomach. You pulled back after a minute.
You: "wow, you're a great kisser, but I think... I have to try it again and see."
"then I guess we have to do it again."
"I think Soo."

A REVIEW OF MY FAVORITE NETFLIX ORIGINAL KOREAN DRAMA: HOSPITAL PLAYLIST
Tumblr media
https://t.co/fkqOasA6Tk
Hello, K-Drama fans! I stepped out of Tumblr for more or less than a month. It's a good thing that I didn't forget I have a blog here. Lol. I've been busy so I wasn't able to cross out most of the dramas on my list. But the drama I am about to review right now is actually a series that I already crossed out of my list twice! So what made me watch Hospital Playlist for the second time?
• Introduction to the Drama
Short Gist:
It's about five friends who used to be school mates in medical school, who are now working at the same hospital.
Director Shin Won Ho and screen writer Lee Woo Jung previously worked on the famous Reply series (which are a work of art!)
Tumblr media
The five main characters are (from left to right) Jo Jung Seok, Jeon Mi Do, Jung Kyoung Ho, Yoo Yeon Seok, and Kim Dae Myung . Quite an interesting line-up, huh?
Yoo Yeon Seok also appeared in many dramas and movies. He's in this industry for 17 years now (if my calculations are correct). He was in dramas Dr. Romantic, Gu Family Book, Reply 1994, etc. Yeon Seok has starred in many medical dramas already.
Jo Jung Seok, an award winning actor, has starred in many dramas and movies. He appeared in dramas The King 2hearts, Oh My Ghost, Jealousy Incarnate, etc. He's a good rom-com and drama actor.
Jung Kyoung Ho has been appearing in the small screen since 2004 and has already landed in many roles. He was in Beating Again, Missing Nine, and Prison Playbook. If you noticed, he was Yoon Seri's ex-boyfriend in Crash Landing On You, which was just a special appearance.
Kim Dae Myung is more of a big screen guy. He has been appearing in movies since 2012. Some of other dramas where he starred are Misaeng: Incomplete Life and The Sound of Your Heart.
The only woman in the main cast is originally a play and musical actress. She's a fresh face in the world of K-drama. Jeon Mi Do had her first role 2 years ago in a drama called Mother. She appeared in a movie called Metamorphosis last year and finally, had her second role this year in Hospital Playlist.
A second season of the drama is to be expected next year. 😉
• The Experience
As I mentioned earlier, I've already watched this drama twice! It's not even that long since I watched this for the first time, and I just finished watching it again.
The first time I watched Hospital Playlist, I didn't know what it was all about. I was actually just having a phase where all I wanted to watch was medical dramas (yes... that's true, even though I am not a med student or anything related) so I clicked on it immediately as soon as all of the episodes were released on Netflix. But as soon as I finished watching the first episode, I couldn't really stop myself from watching more.
Typically, I enjoy watching light and funny dramas but this one is on another level. It has become my favorite Netflix original drama! Until now, I still can't get over it. I can't wait for the next season to be released.
•Points that I Liked About the Drama
Tumblr media
https://t.co/OC3HEzU0a4
1. Hospital Playlist tells a lot of story about different people. There are five main characters but the story does not only revolve around them but also tells the story of the people around. This is actually common when it comes to medical dramas since there are a lot of patients. However, in this drama, they didn't just focus on patients but also on the hospital staffs. In fact, there are so many doctors from different departments that are shown here. I got to see more of what's happening during their breaks, how senior doctors look over the interns and residents and other staff, etc. Of course those are not real life scenarios, but it seemed real and made me feel like I am one of them.
Tumblr media
2. Light and funny but really heartwarming. It's the kind of drama that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. It's not the slapstick comedy kind of drama but more of a situation-based kind? I don't know if you get it at all, LMAO. Watching it makes you feel like you're just catching up with friends, talking about your daily lives and laughing and reminiscing about the past.
3. Plotless but not nonsensical. It is not a complicated drama which is easy to watch no matter how old or how young you are. It should still be watched chronologically, though, because there are still a lot of stories to follow about each character. There's just no definite goal that was shown in the drama but the way the story was told, it's almost perfect.
4. One of the most realistic medical dramas. There are no exaggerated medical scenes where the doctors have to do impossible things and whatsoever just to save a patient.
Tumblr media
https://t.co/Z6U1T2nBI0
5. I love the characters. It's impossible to choose a favorite character! Even the supporting ones are characterized well. Each character is different, that's why even if there are many of them, you won't get lost.
6. It's a medical drama so I learned a lot as well. If you are interested in medicine or currently taking up medicine related programs, Hospital Playlist is a good k-drama option to watch.
Tumblr media
https://t.co/xGbTvz4giu
7. The OST is good. I highly recommend this drama if you are a sucker for good OSTs like me. All of the songs here are just covers. I am not familiar with the original songs since they are from the 1990s and early 2000s, but I still enjoyed them. For a month, I've only played Hospital Playlist OST. I'm not even kidding!
Tumblr media
https://t.co/p3gGyjAKSS
8. They didn't overdo the romantic scenes. I ship a lot of the characters because there are also side stories like doctors who start to like each other. But none of them are cringey. I had a good time watching some characters' love story as it progresses.
9. There are so many cameos. I won't mention them because it may lead to spoilers but I swear, I love those special appearances!
• The Ending
The ending of the first season was satisfying. There are still unanswered questions, though. That's something to look forward to for the 2nd season. I can't say much about the ending because I know that it's not the final one yet. Still, my heart was contented with the 12 episodes.
•Final Thoughts
Will I watch it again? YES. FOR SURE.
Will I recommend it? YES. WATCH THIS DRAMA RIGHT AWAY OR ADD THIS TO YOUR PENDING LIST IMMEDIATELY.
Rate: 10/10 (for this season only)
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The reason why it's a 10/10 for me is because I prefer dramas like this, okay? If anyone disagrees with me, you can try to convince me to change my mind but I doubt anything will change. 🤣
•Hospital Playlist Top 5 OST
I really had a hard time picking my top 5 favorite songs because all of them are good. This is a really hard task for me, why did I even do this to myself? Lol. I feel my heart breaking. I. Am. Not. Kidding. So the songs I listed here are not really my top 5, it's rather a proof of my claim that everything is good. ('cos i just can't, i am sorry).
Me to You, You to Me by Mido and Falasol
Lonely Night by Kwon Jin Ah
Introduce me a good person by Joy
Aloha by Cho Jung Seok
In front of city hall at the subway station by Kwak Jin Eon
That's it! There's nothing I don't like about Hospital Playlist and I have no issues, too. If I am to think of one, it would probably be about the release date of the second season because I am dying for it.
So what are your thoughts? 😊 Thank you for reading!

Faris D'jinn (long) appreciation post
Warning: If you don't like very long posts or deep analysis of a character or situations, maybe you want to skip this. But you are always welcome.
I will always say this: Treasure of the found lamp! is one of my favorites episodes of the Ducktales bomb (the other is Nothing can stop Della Duck!) I like the jokes, the journeys of the two groups, the cameos of different characters that appeared in Season One. But most of all... Him.
Tumblr media
Faris D'jinn. Middle Eastern adventurer. Seeker of the lamp. Descendant of an actual genie and the amazing woman who freed him. Here are ten reasons (not counting the facts that he is a great swordman and a cool biker because everyone knows that) of why this warrior is one my favourite characters in the Ducktales universe:
1. He is not what he seems
Tumblr media
The first time I saw this guy in the SDCC 2018, and the person presenting the characters said he was Dijon from the Ducktales movie, there were two different reactions from my part:
"OMG! They acknowledged the movie. That means Merlock is going to return!" And...
"This Dijon looks so COOL! But...he looks like a terrorist"
And before you sue and attack me, there are some comments in YouTube that reflected my thoughts. One of them said he looks like an ISIS member.
But I have investigated and I found out that in fact, there are some people that wear traditional black clothes in the Middle East and are NOT asociated with violence or radical groups. So, my bad people. I'm really ashamed for making this statement. I try to not be an ignorant of different cultures for reasons like this.
Anyway, those months I tried to stay positive that, if he was a bad guy, he could get a redemption arc. Because there's no way that this awesome Ducktales crew, that handles the Latino community very well, is going to portray arabs in a bad light, just like every old Hollywood productions (I'm looking at you, Aladdin)
And when the promo of Ducktales and Big Hero 6 appeared, with this warrior using his sword in front of a very scared Scrooge... well... I put my thoughts on another post, but I was a little concerned for the Middle Eastern representation.
Great was my surprise when I saw the episode for the first time. Let say that the power of the lamp wasn't the only plot twist of that episode.
2. He's so serious that it's funny
Tumblr media
His single-minded quest for the lamp before the Ifrit's dawn (a fact that he monologued for 10 minutes without blinking) leaves him with no time to joke around, except everyone around him is a goof, and that makes him hilarous in a sense. Best demostrated when he answered ALL the riddles from a literal JOKE BOOK. He's so smart... yet so gullible that it's amazing. It's like he can't tell when someone is lying or making a joke... I don't know if that's possible. There's also his reaction at the "got your nose" prank which, honestly to me, was one of the best reactions EVER. Maybe it's how he screamed "monster!" and how he seems to really believe the creature got his nose. Truth to be to told, I was very surprised the first time I saw him laugh, that was something unexpected. And how the premise of the episode was him getting a family of adventuring Ducks, a greek Godness, a sea monster and a bunch of Beagles involved in a quest...to give himself a birthday present, like... Who gives himself a birthday present? (Really, I don't know someone who does that)
3. He is grateful even with enemies
Tumblr media
He defeated Charybdis and the poor monster was whipped and given the beat of his life because he wanted to help Scrooge and Webby with the phony quest, and the first thing the warrior does is thanking him and saying that he will be remembered in the story of the lamp. That impressed me... And somehow made worth all the pain that Charybdis had. The same happened with the "Minotaur" and Ma Beagle (the little bow that he made is priceless). Many people would mock their defeated enemies and give them zero respect... but not him. That was so honorable, it reminded me of how Medieval Knights act, which would be discussed in the seventh point of this post.
4. He forgave the Ducks easily
Tumblr media
"Djinn, I'm sorry I tricked you. If I'd known what was at stake..."
"Another chapter in the legend. A final trial before we find the lamp! It's all part of the journey!"
Like wow... That was something I was NOT expecting, because I wouldn't expect a guy who was shouting and slicing things all day to be that... nice. And maybe that could be because there was no time in the episode for the liar revealed drama. But the points D'jinn made about why he forgave Scrooge make total sense. He loves adventures and journeys, he likes to write in a scroll about the trials he had, so he instead took the positives aspects that the phony quest had and continue with his life. Now that's something you don't see very often. Instead of swearing revenge and dedicate his time ruining someone's life (I'm looking at you Glomgold, Magica, Negaduck and other villains) he forgave the Ducks, focused on the present and keep only the most important facts. I like that way of thinking.
5. He has a deep love for his family's history (and his heritage and bloodline)
Tumblr media
He comes from a family that, as far as I'm concerned, keeps the stories of their past alive, passing them to the next generations. It's been ten generations since the genie was freed. What the ex-magical creature got was more valuable that having phenomenal cosmic powers: A loving wife and many descendants who remember them with such passion, and now one of said descendants, fascinated by their love story has adquired the "totem that started it all". I heard that arabs in particular are family oriented people, they would do ANYTHING for their loved ones, and that's the first time I saw that in a cartoon (at least in a Disney cartoon, the other example that is Non-Disney is the Oscar nominated "The Breadwinner", which I recommend you guys have to see it, it's so good)
D'jinn made a long journey from the Middle East to America (at least I think Duckburg is in America) for a powerless lamp because of it's sentimental value, which leads us to the next point...
6. He is a sentimental guy
Tumblr media
You wouldn't expect a tough, serious and to some extent dangerous guy to have powerful feelings like love? Right? Think again. There's a reason of why the call D'jinn (and his VA, Omid Abtahi) a cinnamon roll. He has strong emotions, that is (I think) one of the reasons of why he's so dramatic. It's part of his personality. In fact, his volatile personality (using many times his sword, cutting things, flipping a table) has a solid base of why it is the way it is. I'm not saying that destroying the couch and threatening the Duck family is not wrong, I'm saying this because this is NOT a matter of the "He's an arab and all arabs are volatile/barbaric/will scream and attack you 'cause that is their nature" thing that all the Hollywood movies I saw (at least the examples I saw in the documentary "Reel Bad Arabs") have. No sir, this is different.
And talking about Arab stereotypes...
7. He's a HUGE improvement from the Ducktales movie and series
Back in 1990, he was Dijon, a thief and mook to Merlock, the Big Bad Wolf of the Movie. He was funny and the interactions he had with Scrooge in the movie and the series are funnier (Also, did you know that the last words Scrooge said in the series was "Dijon!" because the duck was running towards him 'cause he stole his watch?)
But, as the Nostalgia Critic put it in his review of the Ducktales Movie
"I don't know... Is this considered racist now? Yes, he has an accent and is a thief..."
He's fine as a comic relief, but nothing makes him different from the Crows of Dumbo, or the Indians of Peter Pan, or the Siamese cats of Lady and the Tramp, or...
Honest Trailer's guy: Stop it!
OK ok. The point it's... The Ducktales reboot did it again. They took a not so well liked character from the '87 series and made him/her a lovable character, like Mamá Cabrera (I swear, she's also mi mamá now)
Now he's honorable, charming, etc (and yes, those words are from a YouTuber reviewer) But specialy, they changed his name to Faris D'jinn which not only sounds more arabic, but also foreshadows his relationship with a genie. Plus, Faris means "Knight" in arabic, which describes what he is and how he acts perfectly.
8. He's different but at the same time just like everyone else
Tumblr media
Gif belongs to @i-mostly-reblog-things
Yeah, he looks different, speaks with an accent that's not American, has a different mindset about things in life and maybe that could come from the country he's been raised, or his family or maybe he decide to be the way he is on his own accord. But, as an lesson learned in the episode "The Depths of cousin Fethry!"
Just because something or someone is different doesn't mean is bad.
True, D'jinn didn't make a first good impresion with the Duck family, except from Webby (You go girl! It seems that she has a talent to see edgy but misunderstood people and give them a chance) but at the end everyone was celebrating his birthday with him. They give him a cake! This small but powefull gesture made me 100% convinced that, even with flaws and conflicts, they are the perfect family. It still surprises me that the crew of Ducktales and Disney would make a scene like that. If someone told me a year ago that they would make a scene with: An arab. Dressed with traditional clothes (turban and all). Wearing all black. Celebrating his/her birthday with an American (Scotish in Scrooge's case) Family, I would have laugh and say: Yeah, sure, like they would actualy show that.
But they did it and I couldn't be more happy.
Just a pause from this Ducktales' post
Some of you could be thinking as you read this: "Nice that your people are shown in a positive way"
The thing is... I'm not arab. I'm a latinoamerican who just happens to love Middle Eastern cultures. My country isn't very prejuiced towards Middle Eastern people (maybe because there's a few of them) but I have come from a long way. To being sure that everything there was just sand and violence to wanting to visit some of the many wonders that the East has to give, meet people and learn their point of view. I think everyone should do that at some point, instead of, you know, getting all your arab information from Hollywood movies and concluding that everything would be better if the Middle Easterns were dead. As this quote from the YouTube Documentary "Reel bad Arabs" states:
"We feel that Arabs are not like us, are not like everyone else, then let's kill them off, then they deserve to die, right?"
The thing is, they are more similar that we think, it's just that the international media doesn't show that... until now.
And going back with Ducktales
Yeah, this dude looks different, but he laughs, feels, and enjoys having a great time just like everyone else.
It's the same that is happening with Fenton and the latino representation. D'jinn is a hero who happens to be arab. A dramatic warrior. A family values man. A great allie, friend and who knows what many things more. He, and other Ducktales characters, have so many layers that it's incredible. Just like people, you can't define someone only from their personality or their race. There are so many things that make a person unique. D'jinn broke the expectations I had for him (or he sliced them with his sword) for the better.
9. He's better than Aladdin in many ways
By starters, the voice actors. Aladdin's VA is American and has an American accent in the movie. D'jinn's VA is Omid Abtahi, born in Iran, a Middle Eastern actor. And I'm not saying arab because Irani people are not Arabs (correct me if I'm wrong). Omid doesn't have an accent, as far as I know, but I think it's a nice detail to have the warrior being voiced by someone who comes from the same place. Then, we have the fact that Aladdin lied to almost everyone and D'jinn was a victim of a lie. True, the Ducks assumed he was going to kill them all (and for a good reason) but a lie is still a lie. I don't know many things about Middle Eastern clothes and fashion in the past and the present, but I can tell you will find (maybe traditional) people who wears something more close to D'jinn than Aladdin, and I'm pretty sure the warrior would free a genie if he has the chance because he's a descendant of one. But apart from their differences, both are really good people with a big heart and a kind soul, it's just that we find out Aladdin is good in the beggining of the movie with the bread and orphans scene and with D'jinn almost in the end of the episode, because to be honest, I was expecting him to be lying about wanting to protect the lamp and instead working for the new Merlock, since that was his role in the original movie. Many of us expected a lying thief, but instead we got another Diamond in the Rough.
10. He is a key for one of Scrooge's character developments
Tumblr media
Gif belongs to @everythingducktales
The richest duck in the World was SO impressed by the warrior's story that he opened a museum of valuable artifacts so he can share his stories with his family and the world. Let's repeat that. Scrooge McDuck, a very famous, very important and proud adventurer took the advice of a stranger (he also was 100% sure this stranger would kill him and his family if he doesn't get what he wants) because he saw his "human" side, a family side that made the duck realize "maybe we are not so different after all".
Not even the Buzzards (people who worked with Scrooge for who knows what many years) were capable of convincing Scrooge to do some of their plans (but lets be honest, their plans are awful)
That made him be more open about his adventures, his past experiences and his treasures, each one with a unique story. Maybe that would prevent unfortunate yard sales in the future.
Bonus:
11. He is going to return
Tumblr media
It is confirmed in one of Frank Angones' posts that he is going to appear in the future, maybe as an allie of the Duck family in an adventure. Or who knows? Maybe they can recruit him as a member of a superheroes team along with Gizmoduck, Darkwing Duck and others. Plus, I want to see him interact with Launchpad and Donald.
That would be all... for now.

So, as someone who also loves MASH (watched it in syndication and bought the whole series on DVD), so you have like a top 5 favorite episode or moments? If so, what are they? And how did you feel about the finale? I have been told that my dad did not like the finale and some old family friends also said it wasn't... Good. Me? I'm conflicted. I do see the pros and cons of what happens but you might be the only generational peer I know. So your opinion means a lot to me.
Wow! I was not expecting this ask, but I’m so glad you sent it. To be honest, it’s been a couple years since I sat down and rewatched the whole series chronologically, but I think I remember it enough to answer your question. (That, and I went through each episode summary to jog my memory.)
I decided to go with my top 5 favorite episodes. (Specific moments just felt too… specific?) These opinions have definitely changed over the years, and they may change when I watch the show again, but for now, they’re as follows:
Season 1, Episode 17: Sometimes You Hear The Bullet
This was the first episode I remember seeing Hawkeye vulnerable. Some later episodes with Sidney attempt to dive into his mind when strange reactions arise, but they always felt a bit forced in my opinion. This episode, on the other hand, was simple, yet devastating. Colonel Blake’s quote sums it up perfectly: “There are certain rules about a war. Rule number one is that young men die. And rule number two is, doctors can’t change rule number one.” This episode really sets the tone for the whole series. There’s going to be a lot of humor, but we’re not going to let you forget where these characters are.
Season 4, Episode 18: Hawkeye
This episode was masterfully written. Hawkeye gets in an accident, and then must talk constantly to the Korean family who takes him in, in order to stay conscious. It’s the only episode of a sit-com I can recall is entirely a monologue, yet it never feels boring. Hawkeye’s character is at the forefront with his humor, but always in the background is his intelligence and concern for his wellbeing. It’s an episode that truly showcases both sides of his character in a way that is both natural, and funny enough, entertaining.
Season 4, Episode 24: The Interview
I must say that the atmosphere of this show is always perfect, but this episode was especially so. Shot in black and white, it really doesn’t feel like anyone is truly acting when the journalist interviews the cast of characters from the 4077th. It seems like it’s more of a documentary segment than an episode of a military sit-com. As someone who comes from a journalistic background, I now appreciate the unique writing in this episode more so than I did when I was young. MASH was all about unique episode formats, and this is one of its best examples.
Season 9, Episode 5: Death Takes A Holiday
I’m not a crier, but this episode did it for me. As funny and serious about political/societal issues as this show was (many of which are still very relevant today), sometimes, things were just supposed to be sad, because that’s the way things were. The moment Hawkeye stood up and changed the hands of the clock, I lost it. It’s a gesture that speaks more than any dialogue in the episode, but it completely broke my heart. Mike Farrell’s writing/directing talent really showed in this episode.
Season 11, Episode 5: Who Knew?
Like the first episode I mentioned, this is another where the audience gets a “surprising” amount of humility, vulnerability, and honesty out of Hawkeye. It’s a heartbreaking realization to some that someone could be so rich on the inside, yet never share it. Not judging others based on many circumstances is a theme upheld throughout the show, but this is really the first episode where it forces the 4077th to look at themselves a little more closely. As it turns out, someone they perceived as distant, was actually in awe of their work, and unfathomably kind. Just a little shy. Hawkeye admits that’s he’s like her, but openly shares with those he cares about just how much so. It doesn’t feel forced, cheesy, or weighted. It feels like honesty, showing through the wisecracks.
Honorable Mentions:
Season 1 Episode 2: To Market, To Market
Season 3 Episode 5: O.R.
Season 3 Episode 11: Adam’s Ribs
Season 4 Episode 4: The Late Captain Pierce
Season 6 Episode 7: In Love And War
Season 6 Episode 15: The Smell Of Music
Season 7 Episode 10: Point Of View
Season 7 Episode 20: CAVE
Season 8 Episode 11: Life Time
I know a lot of these episodes are more serious or deviant from the normal structure, but I just want to stay that I love all the humor, but these are moments that stick out to me.
The Finale:
To be honest, the first time I saw the finale as an adult (about 4 years ago), I thought it was perfect. In retrospect, maybe as someone older, more cynical, more critical, more observant, or more of whatever else, I do see its flaws. Hawkeye’s breakdown is described but never shown. Hawkeye is belligerent, as was his character, but it seems overdone. BJ’s grand goodbye also came across as very cheesy.
However, I love the idea that Hawkeye finally hit his breaking point, because it was a long time coming. It could’ve been executed so much better, but the lead up to it was FLAWLESS. I just wish the aftermath was better. BJ and Hawkeye were close, and shared many vulnerable moments, but I think leaving it at a huge and wave would’ve been best. (Even though the message looked good to viewers.)
In short, I’m also conflicted about the finale. I think there are aspects of it that could’ve been done better, and some that were incredible. But ultimately, there’s a reason 106 million people tuned in to watch it. This show had a special place in a lot of people’s hearts, so no matter how the writers chose to end it, I think that’s the most important thing, that it meant something to people.
Ngl, I’d be a liar if I said I didn’t get emotional every time I watched that “goodbye” fade away with the iconic series music.
I really hope this answered your question(s), and that I did this masterpiece of a show some justice.
THANK YOU for this ask!

Review/Reaction for "Quack Pack!"
Forgot to mention on the first post that i loved that they added Della on the intro just a nice touch and secondly i feel that the animation got better, don't get me wrong the animation has always been good but in these two episodes it looked a lot smoother and more animated (i see the irony in that sentence).
This episode was unsettling and somewhat disturbing ok i may be exaggerating but those humans were super creepy and nightmare inducing. But the plot and humor of this episode was so good.
Favorite Moments
The 90's sitcom cringe was real and strong on this episode.
The cold open and the intro had me in stitches. Also Don Cheadle beautiful buttery voice reveal was amazing.
So i first thought that Scrooge was going to dress the children in old timey fauntleroy suits not Donald which why Donald why???
Huey's mad descent to realizing that something is off and wrong in that reality was great including the self-referential jokes like the fourth wall, the acknowledgement of the live audience, the commercial break and that transition was beautiful.
Those ads especially that Disney Channel parody were so weirdly nostalgic.
Launchpad and his band One Day You Will make it just not today or ever.
Then we get Goofy which was so Goofy it was nicely done.
The Flashback effect and realization was so funny to me i watched that scene like 5 times, also why is Goofy remebering he wasn't even in the adventure.
Ok so Donald's wish was not that surprising to me i Will get to this on the Review part of this post.
I love how all the family react to the Flashback with their catchphrases and Beakley's acknowledgement of her awful catchphrase is the Cherry on top.
Ok so casting a classic 90's sitcom actor as Gene a genie that has been stuck since the 1990's in this epsiode parody of a 90's sitcom was Genius.(so many 90's)
So Donald's reason for the wish and Della's reaction to it, like i felt the pain.
Donald selfishness ughhhhhh come on Dude.
I hope i never see that Ducktales reboot that Gene teased NEVER.
Those Humans they are gonna haunt my dreams and nightmares for weeks.
Loved how Dewey was holding Della's shirt it was so cute and nice little detail (i wish i could show a screenshot but My phone is broken and i can't take screenshot so if You wish to see it for yourself it's around 16:02 and 16:08). Also Dewey's weakness is having low self-esteem and disapproval is a whole mood.
The fight was great as always loved the humor, the gags and the whole cleverness around it was epic. I adored that talk Donald and Goofy had about what's normal and how your own family uniqueness is what makes You normal it touched My heart. Loved that when Donald enters the room and starts getting angry the family cheer at him cause they know that Donald is going to finish this fight, also liked that Goofy is just taking pics, Launchpad and that saxophone solo is something i didn't know i needed and of course we get that iconic and trademarked Goofy howl.
I AM very CONFUSED so Goofy exists in Ducktales now but he didn't exist before but he is popular so Goof Troop exists but not in that reality so he exists in the human reality is Goofy even real or is he just made of genie magic but if he's real that means that Goof Troop is canon but is it in the same reality i am just what WHERE IS MAX???
Loved Donald's final wish and i loved him in there on his Houseboat with the triplets i think since the season 1 premiere we haven't seen them together just the four of them, Louie was going all Disney Villain with the wishes he was suggesting and i just love this final scene.
Review time.
Ok so i haven't seen Ducktales the movie, Quack Pack or Goof Troop take this as biased or unbiased review.
Gene the genie was great liked his character and personality.Goofy You can't go wrong with Goofy he was lovable and so great with Donald. Wish to see Gene and Goofy in future episodes.
Loved the overall craziness of the epsiode and the self referential humor and comedy it was great didn't expect it to be a Donald focused episode i'm not complaining i just didn't expect it was still great, So Donald's wish came with good intentions but it was horribly executed, and yeah it wouldn't be Bad to have normal problems for once in awhile but forcing the family to be something they're not that's where You draw the line but Donald wanted to be normal that's where he is wrong not that he has a problem is that he needed to accept his family just the way they are and this might be the beginning of some character growth for Donald first starting with his family maybe then with his Friends and lastly Daisy.(if You want a better analysis on Donald in this episode ge see @drummergirl231-2 post about it she does an excellent analysis)
Overall this was a great episode with wacky hijinks and good comedy not the multidimensional travelling episode i was hoping for but it was still super creative i give this episode 4.5 ducks out of 5

Powerpuff Girls 2016 - “Power Of Four (Parts 1-2)”
Tumblr media
Written by: Jake Goldman, Haley Mancini
Written & Storyboarded by: Kyle Neswald, Benjamin P. Carow, Julia Vickerman, Cheyenne Curtis, Alicia Chan, Grace Craft (sic), Jaydeep Hasrajani, Leticia Abreu Silva
Directed by: Nick Jennings, Bob Boyle
The first ratings stunt special! Might not be the only one.
(I know, I promised one review. I'll just say I really should have learned my lesson with the hour long DuckTales episode. Parts 3-5 will be up tomorrow.)
Before we start, some explanation about how I split this review up: While this episode aired as a 1.25 hour special in the US, this episode will air in at least one other country as five separate episodes, all with the word Bliss in the title. Cartoon Network's app has it both ways, just in case you want your pain piece-meal. Or is it pain? Let's just get this "bliss" over with.
Part 1 - Find Your Bliss
Written & Storyboarded by: Alicia Chan, Grace Kraft
Tumblr media
The special starts with Blossom and Buttercup accusing Bubbles of breaking an award and melting a Candle Man action figure, respectively. Bubbles says it's not her, it's Bliss, a teenager who can't control her emotions!
Blossom and Buttercup don't believe her, because, as a montage shows, she has a habit with making up imaginary friends. But there's no time to worry about Bubbles breaking random things thanks to her "imagination", they got a Space Tow Truck movie to go to! Basically, the writers think 6 year old girls would be into Star Trek. Before they can do that, the Professor tells them to do chores.
While Blossom and Buttercup are able to finish their chores easily, Bubbles can't help but be found with a bunch of broken plates. This time, she blames Bliss's elephant friend, named, according to the captions, Mee! Yes, that will turn into several "Who's On First?" gags, none of which are particularly bad. After a little "pow-wow", Blossom and Buttercup decide to do some drastic measures.
Tumblr media
See, as this reboot has proven time and time again, the Powerpuff Girls can easily be stopped by tying them up like Penelope Pitstop. Even the Powerpuff Girls knew this, as all we needed to keep someone who can fly and lift buildings full of people at the same time from causing trouble is a tiny hand truck and some green ribbons. Not the silliest thing that stopped them, by a long shot.
Blossom runs out of popcorn immediately before the movie, and the Professor tries to use his new invention: a pen that could fire lasers, immobilize people, scratch your back, and maybe write! After accidently immobilizing a few kids in the audience, he realizes it's stuck on the immobilization option, and decides to just get some popcorn. This will be important later. Mostly the pen, though the popcorn does lead to a smirk-worthy joke.

Earth Plow, an old-time radio character that the Professor used to like that is somehow real, bursts through the screen, and because this is a 3D movie, we get the obvious joke. Of course, Earth Plow is not too happy about other vehicles that are not of this Earth, and wants to show off that he's still got it by doing a Mark Twain impression. He also has a problem with getting criticized, as he starts attacking with his lasers as soon as everyone starts booing. The Powerpuff Girls intervene, but will they prevail?
Not really, Blossom and Buttercup just can't seem to handle this guy, as he almost instantly traps them with a claw. What's worse is that Bubbles is still stuck on that hand truck and green ribbon of doom. Clearly, someone else has to appear out of nowhere and help them, and that's not something unique to this special. As Earth Plow attempts to run Bubbles over while she yells for Bliss, we get a flash of light, and we finally get the reveal everyone's been waiting for.
Well, that's a slight lie considering a certain Cartoon Network division jumping the gun, but we'll just keep it to ourselves.

It’s Bliss! She has blue hair, because natural hair colors are not cool enough! She has long legs, and yet she essentially has the same body design as her 10-years-younger sisters! And she’s totally not an overpowered fan-character, because just this flash of light was able to blow a villain that easily took care of two Powerpuff Girls out of the theater. Okay, that’s a bad example. I have a feeling this special is going to be full of them.
The Professor comes back with his trashcan full of popcorn that he was, a result of said smirk-worthy popcorn joke, and he finds Bliss. The first thing he does when he finds this new Powerpuff Girl? He calls her "Blisstina", tells her sorry, and zaps her with the immobilization pen. I'll admit, this was a legitimately shocking scene, and a great ending for this part.

By reboot standards, this was a great opening, and it actually intrigued me for future parts. That's something I didn't expect from watching more than 40 episodes of this show, and certainly not something I expected when I watched the initial promos. Where did this Powerpuff Girl come from? What are her special powers? Why did the Professor decide to immobilize her daughter the first time he saw her for years?
All of this will be answered, and I'll say this: if you are thinking this quality is throughout this entire special, this must be your first episode.
Part 2 - Bliss Reminiscence
Written & Storyboarded by: Kyle Neswald, Benjamin P. Carow
It turns out, the Professor put her in a stasis bubble, protecting her from the rest of the world, and protecting the rest of the world from her. This part is all about Bliss's origin story, as told by three different people, including herself. We start with the Professor, and from the first sentence, we can tell that they’re not going to pay any respect to the original. It all started ten years ago...
Tumblr media
Envious of "bitter"-never-before-mentioned-"rival" Professor Neutronium’s perfect little boy, who looks like Astro Boy and apparently saves Tokyo on a regular basis, he wanted to make the perfect little girl. So instead of wanting to make the world a better place and/or wanting to have a family, Professor Utonium made the Powerpuff Girls out of envy. Is this the Professor, or Dick Hardly from the original's Knock it Off?
Other than that, it is the all familiar story, complete with animation similar to the original's opening: the Professor mixes together sugar, spice, and everything nice, and somehow manages to knock into a vial of Chemical...W? That does explain why she seems to have powers the Powerpuff Girls don't have, besides "we gotta make her special", but we’re supposed to believe he messed up twice? It gets even worse. Not only did he bumble twice...
Tumblr media
...he bumbled 22 other times with 22 other chemicals! This scene raises far too many questions that, unlike previously, will never be answered, as I don’t think they thought further than "Chemical X? Whatever happened to Chemical A through W? Wakka wakka!" There's a slight implication that it might have made at least one monster, but that's all we get.
We also learn that her name isn't just Bliss, but Blisstina Franchesca Francis Mariam Alicia Utonium. At least it's not Blisstina Powerpuff. The father of the year that he is, he even tells the girls we're familar with that Blisstina was his favorite little girl. Buttercup calls him out on this, and he just immediately denies it. Not funny.

Her powers began to evolve, as she starts teleporting around the room. Is this her unique power? Not really, this is just one of her normal powers. It's because she's made of Chemical W, you see. It's not just because "we got to make her special!" That's not the only power she gets, either.
Even as a preschooler, even in the original they're all born preschoolers, roll with it, she can't control her emotions. Literally! Whenever she feels a strong emotion, any of them, she causes a large blue explosion that destroys the house. It all ends with Bliss getting fustrated over not having any milk for her cereal, and causing the whole house to explode. When the Professor woke up, she was gone, and he assumed death. For those in the know, they never mention Bunny. Are you really that surprised?
After the Professor leaves for a reward for "best ham" after promising never to leave Bliss, father of the year, Bliss suddenly wakes up from her immobilization. This stasis bubble being able to prevent her from teleporting, She tells her side of the story, starting with the Professor creating her before the Powerpuff Girls immediately stop her. Bliss actually left the Professor while he was knocked out. She goes to a island because, despite being so powerful, she causes problems!
Tumblr media
Specifically, she goes to Bird Poop Island. It's here that she meets Mee, her magical pet friend that will surprisingly have more of a reason to exist other than "we got to make her special!" Even when he demonstrated her ability to self-destruct, Mee didn't care. After 10 years, she finally got homesick, decided to teleport back to her old home, and she found Bubbles and started her "pretend I'm your imaginary friend" game.
As Bliss begs to be let go, it's Reboot Jojo's has to make his appearance in this special, as he posed as the "ham award" giver for the Professor to leave the room. Unfortunately, he is the "ham". No, not really, Jojo, not even if you make this face for no reason:
Tumblr media
Sweet dreams, kids.
He decides to tell his side of the story, starting with the time he pushed the Professor right into the chemicals. Actually, they never even get to this, as the Powerpuff Girls immediately tell him to skip to his friendship with Bliss. Judging by this and the extended opening, I’m not convinced they’re even aware of that plot point. Now, I know this is supposed to be a reboot...
Tumblr media
...though I'm not convinced the writers know this, but it's one of the biggest aspects that made Mojo Jojo significant as an arch-villain. It's a part that seperates him from being just a silly monkey with a silly hat; he was involved in their creation. To have it pushed aside is just...a stab in the heart.
The silly monkey explains that Bliss was his best friend when he was still an ordinary baby monkey. When Bliss went bye-bye, he was so sad. The end. You know, I would have accepted that the Professor actually bumbled with the Chemical W, and that he missed Bliss so much that he intentionally bumped the Professor when he was mixing the Chemical X. That would have been an okay retcon. Instead, we got...
Tumblr media
...that. Reboot Jojo uses this backstory as a reason for Bliss to join him. He hits the lever, accidently opening the garage door. Finally, a decent joke, and it took them this long. He then hits the other lever, freeing Bliss.
The Powerpuff Girls and Jojo try to convince her at the same time, and Bliss feels that's she's about to explode again. She uses her telekinesis for the first time to flip back the lever to use the bubble to protect the house from a huge explosion that makes her disappear again. They don't cry this time, as if they knew she didn't actually die.
To make a long story short, she didn't. She wants to start this family thing, and maybe this will help her control her powers. The part ends with her accidently making the house explode again. Oops.
Tumblr media
There wasn't a lot to like about this part besides the garage door gag. While the last part ended with a great twist, the twists and retcons they put with this one just feel like bad jokes at worst, and misguided at best. I can't even respect that this is the first time they even mentioned Chemical X. If there's any good news, it's all uphill from here. A very, very slight one.
See you tomorrow for parts 3 through 5, and my final rating!
