Jily Microfic March 25: Proud

@jilymicrofics, 400 words. On AO3. 🦡💛 Also for @mppmaraudergirl’s Alight with happiness fest Day 3: Thrice defied I see this as a prequel of sorts for Disheartened.

It's a lovely Saturday in late July and James and Lily are strolling down the Diagon Alley, hand in hand. The people around them walk with hurried steps, usually in small, huddled groups, and keep their heads down. No one stops to chat with a friend. But James and Lily are smiling and giddy. They are picking up things for their new flat: in just a few short weeks, the two of them are moving in together. They’ve already been to several shops but there’s a new boutique Marlene recommends that’s just down a side alley off the main street and that’s where they’re headed now.

Their steps echo on the cobblestones. The side alley is narrow and quiet. They’re less than ten yards in, when there’s a scrape of a foot behind them. Lily glances over her shoulder and immediately whirls around, wand in her hand, her back angled towards James. She hears him yell a spell and has just a split second to think that there’s more than one enemy cornering them, when the masked figure in black robes slashes with their wand.

A jet of dangerous red arcs towards her, but the countercurse is ready on Lily’s tongue. All the sparring with Sirius, all the duelling lessons in their Defence Against Dark Arts classroom, the vast knowledge of magic she’s been building for years have honed her skills for this moment. It comes to her with such an ease that she casts the protective spell nonverbally. Her opponent's eyes widen behind the mask as their curse veers harmlessly to the side. Lily smiles and lets loose.

It’s a short and swift battle. Lily knocks out her opponent first, then turns to help James, though he’s holding his own well enough. The remaining Death Eater is swearing in a shrill voice when they’re finally forced to retreat. They run to their fallen comrade and Disapparate with a loud crack.

The victory is heavy and heady in her veins as she turns to face James, eyes bright.

He cups her jaw and his lips crash against hers in a wild kiss.

“I’ve never been so bloody proud of you, Lily Evans,” he murmurs against her mouth before she silences him with another kiss.

“Let’s go shopping.” She laughs, twining her fingers with his again. The day seems cheerier, the world seems lighter, and nothing is going to stop her.

Thanks for the tag @nodirectionhome-ao3! I almost feel unworthy as I really am not writing much now and feeling a lot of conflict about how to move forward in fandom, but it's still fun to have a chance to chat about what I am writing (even if it's slow).

Titles

Maybe Tomorrow: The epilogue is all that's left! This is a hard story to categorize, but essentially Harry and Hermione are fixing up Potter Manor the first Christmas after the war, on Christmas Eve they wake up to find themselves seemingly in the future, or some possible alternate reality. Friends to lovers, time travel, domestic fluff and plenty of angst thrown in.

Untitled James and Lily. A one shot sitting in my drafts. Mischief and games, and a first kiss. Possibly going to connect it to At The Beginning.

Found. I've actually pulled this from Ao3 and it's become a personal project instead. It's a spin off from my Seasons Series. Second generation, original character, coming back from the dead and other fun stuff. Harry/Hermione.

Iris. Another project I'm unsure of. It's still online, but may take it down in future to also write for myself instead of an audience. It's the first long story I ever attempted, and was a tad ambitious with it. Harry and Hermione. Hidden child, post war, angsty as hell. And a mystery plot that is slowly driving me insane as I try to weave in the appropriate clues.

Don't really know at this point. @bettertoflee and I have lost steam on In Between which is supposed to be a steamy, fake dating, 8th year Harmony. Life is just hectic and neither of us are feeling overly motivated. I have several vague James and Lily ideas floating in my brain, as well as a few original short stories I'd like to experiment with...but lately writing has been a chore and my creative muse feels depleted!

As you can see the theme is that I have all these Harry and Hermione WIPS, yet no will to work on them, or at least continue posting (sigh). And I would like to write more James and Lily, yet keep freezing. So fun times all around!

Upcoming Scenes, Events, Details

So it's just the epilogue left. One detail is that so far it's only one scene and not very long, but still, I am so excited to finally wrap this up and reveal some stuff. It's probably the story that has meant the most to me on a personal level, and it feels so good to have finished something that I worked hard on and am proud of.

There is a kiss that I am very eager to write. Plus some group dynamics that I'm having fun experimenting with.

Now that I'm not writing this for an audience there has been some freedom with being able to let go of certain details and it feels great to just jump around and have fun with it. I'm working on a scene of a cute "first" date that makes me all fluttery ❤️ Also Ron will be making another appearance soon, and I do love writing him.

There are some cute scenes I'm excited to write, but they are a ways away and I don't want to say too much. I will say there is a kiss that I am also very excited to write in this one to! Let's just see if I ever get through all the "mystery" bits.

Well, if we could summon the energy/ability, there is a smut scene in In Between that I know I'm eager to write, or read, who knows which of us will make it happen 👀 I would also very much like it if my desire to write would come back as I keep getting snippets of Jily banter in my head that would be good to get down.

Not sure if anyone will be interested in reading any of this, but yes a glimpse at the chaos of my writing life (at least fandom wise).

Lily frowned at her phone and moved to her entrance, grabbing the package from the console and heaving the door open.

She glanced to right to see a a very fit man with ruffled curly hair, black jeans and bright hazel eyes that danced behind his square glasses.

A very gorgeous man who was apparently not gay.

“Hi” she called “I’m just over here”

He threw a lopsided grin at her and started making his way over.

“I’m Lily” she said extending her hand and smiling at him when he reached her door.

“James. As you already know” he said grinning ruefully.

“Not gay James” Lily corrected him, biting her lip as a laugh bubbled out of her.

“Yes. Why did you think that?” James said, his brow furrowed “I’ve never been told I give off a gay vibe”

“You don’t” Lily said “but…well…look” she extended the postmarked package his wallet had arrived in.

“What?” he said glancing down at it.

“Well, the return address is a gay club” she said laughing “I’m sorry I made assumptions, but”

“Oh yeah right, of course” James said laughing awkwardly “nope, definitely straight, just there with my mates”

“It’s a fun club” Lily agreed “my friend Kingsley loves it. Used to go there every weekend when he was single”

“Kingsley Shacklebolt?” James asked suddenly.

“Yeah, that’s him!” Lily said smiling “I think he was there this last weekend with his boyfriend. Did you meet him?”

“Yeah, I’m Sirius Black’s brother”

“Oh I have heard about you. I suppose I just didn’t put the dots together” Lily said smiling at him. God, he was fit .

A clap of thunder alerted Lily to the fact that the sky had suddenly decided to open and her sofa was about to get drenched.

“Shit” she cursed running to yank the window closed.

It was easier when a second pair of joined, helping her move the old window back to latch closed.

Lily felt her breath hitch as she registreed the hot press of his body against hers.

He seemed to realise he was flush against her.

“Sorry” he said hastily, stepping back to create distance between them.

Lily suddenly felt overwhelmingly hot even though the cool thunderstorm had blown in a draft.

Her eyes flicked over his soft lips where his tongue darted out nervously. Lily had the sudden urge to taste him. She pulled her gaze away to meet his own, only to notice it was darker than when they’d last locked eyes.

Fuck.

Lily wasn’t even aware she’d moved, but her mind came back into her body at the sizzling feel his lips left on hers.

He was delicious.

She fought the moan he pulled out of her, before giving in when his warm hand slipped under her shirt.

“Shit, you sound amazing” James murmured.

Lily lost herself in his lips until his hand traced a questioning circle around her thigh and she became aware enough of her surroundings that she realised they’d migrated to the couch.

As she pleaded with him to touch her, a faraway thought crossed her mind.

Perhaps dating wasn’t getting old after all.

what's up tumblr (yet another blog intro)

i've decided to redo this post itself every time i want to make a new intro instead of making a new post :)

hi everyone, i'm tas, and i post a lot of hp stuff

note: everything in bold is either a favorite of mine or something important

hey everyone :) you can call me tloui or tas. my pronouns are he/it. i'm aroace. idk if there's much else to say there lol

i don't post about much other than harry potter on here, but i do have other interests (of course). my favorite musical artists are ajr, troye sivan, and tate mcrae. my favorite movies are vengeance (2022) and moneyball. my favorite books are red, white & royal blue, the catcher in the rye, project nought, and this was our pact. i also really like all the riordianverse books (and i do actually reblog things about pjo on a regular basis). lastly, my favorite colors are blue, green, yellow, pink, and red, which you can probably tell from the banner image and dividers i made for this post.

as for what i post myself, it's harry potter. just harry potter. (yk... minus that one tbosas post). i despise both jkr and pretty much all canon events (it was a canon event) so if you ship almost any canon ship, you're probably out of luck here. (i do ship some canon ships [cough cough drastoria and jily cough cough] but i almost never post about them anyway lol)

my favorite character is percy weasley and i post about him a lot. i'm a slytherin percy weasley truther all the way and love perciver (it's one of my otps) so if you ever wanna chat about percy (or penelope, oliver, and marcus) i'm here :)

even though my favorite character is percy, most of my fics & fic ideas are set in the marauders era. i'll also write some next gen stuff occasionally, and while i have a ton of ocs for next gen, the ones i reference most are lucy, skye, and katie (perciver oc kids) and henry and luella (deamus oc kids).

out of all ships, i write jegulus the most. even if it isn't the main ship, it's featured in a lot of my fics & wips

i slam the door and i'm on my way - jegulus, wip, teen and up. currently 3 chapters and 6.8k. ↳ regulus joins sirius at james's house during his sixth year. together, james, regulus, sirius, and the rest of their friends (both the gryffindor crew and the slytherin skittles) work together to bring voldemort down.

if you stayed - jegulus, complete, general. oneshot, 5k. ★ ↳ regulus leaves his family for good and stays with james and harry while he gets back on his feet in exchange for him looking after harry while james works. regulus is sure james is going to make him leave when the summer ends and harry goes back to school, but this might not be the case after all.

one big family - multi, complete, general. oneshot, 1.3k. ★ ↳ harry celebrates his eleventh birthday with his parents, his sister luna, and their friend neville. a no voldemort au with background jegulus, pandalily, and more :)

as a last note, while i do post almost exclusively harry potter stuff on here, i do make my own stories, and a lot of them. i've only made one post about my original work on here, but i might make more if i feel like it, so i thought i'd add a small section talking about basic bits of my original wips

tsbom - tsbom is the world where i put any character that exists in our world, aka a world without magic or fantasy elements. the characters live across the us, but they're all connected somehow. (this is the universe that my one oc post has come from).

tlotlk + the realms - the realms is the wip as a whole, and tlotlk is the first book, which i'm currently in the process of writing. this series follows a boy as he becomes a knight & falls in love with the prince of the kingdom he's protecting :)

twoa, tcon, ion, & bote - these wips all take place in the same universe, which is also collectively called twoa. this is a universe where gods exist and different human/humanoid people are spread throughout the universe. earth shows up a few times, but isn't the main focus of the series. almost all characters are gods, demigods, or mages, but there are also a few other magical beings & mortals mixed in.

tcor - a story about a girl falling into a world she doesn't belong in with few memories and the knowledge that something is after her. (no it's not horror lol). with the help of a few friends, she's determined to get to the bottom of the mystery and fend off whatever's hunting her down.

beachside - ten kids end up in a replica of their hometown, except they're alone and this version of it is considerably more hostile. just a lot of found family honestly.

these aren't all my wips, but they're the majority of them, as well as the ones i work on the most. while it may not be mentioned in the summaries i gave here, all of them are queer & include romance, usually multiple romances. (i may be aroace, but i write a lot of romance.)

Hi. I had an idea for a neat HP one shot/drabble prompt, if you are interested. I would understand if you aren’t interested in it, but regardless here it is=

Jily(James and Lily Potter)lives/muggle prompt/AU, ‘all a dream?’: “Harry! You are awake! Oh thank god”

“M mum? D dad? You are alive? Was it all a drea..”

“Son, you have been in coma for a while”

He had been asleep for a while… a while being 4 months and two weeks and 6 days.

Harry’d been hit in the head by a book, when he’d gotten into an argument with his friend Ron. Unfortunately, Harry fell backwards and had hit his head on the corner of his bedpost.

The force had fractured the back of his skull- just over his parietal lobe… after rushing him to hospital, his parents had seen him for all of two seconds before he went into surgery.

Ron was a mess, and Harry’s girlfriend and best friend was worse. Hermione kept yelling at Ron for his stupidity, and Lily had to send Ronald home.

Surgery had gone well. EEGs came back with heightened brain activity, highly indicating dreaming and imagination being present. There was only a tap of impact on his parietal lobe. The surgeons expected him to make a solid recovery, but were slightly concerned about writing not being the same.

James and Lily agreed that they would rather have their son never write again, than him be dead, and they cried when the surgeons told them that surgery went well.

4 months, two weeks, and 6 days later, Hermione is sitting in the bed beside her boyfriend, typing on her laptop.

Lily is asleep on her husband’s lap, on the inflatable mattress they purchased, and James is chatting with Hermione on Harry’s latest labs.

“He seems to be making progress. They’re thinking he’s going to wake up soon!” James exclaims, excitedly.

“I’ve been doing some research, and based on his heightened EEG levels, they’re thinking that rather than being able to hear us, Harry is actually having a dream that is so strong it mimics reality.” Hermione frowned, looking down at Harry, whose brow had furrowed for some reason.

She softly brings her finger down to poke at the bunched up skin on his forehead. “Please wake up, you idiot. I love you, but I will kill you before this thing does.”

Hermione is met with a further scrunch, including his nose. She wouldn’t have given it much thought, except for the fact that Harry’s mouth started to move like he was yawning. That’s new.

“James? He’s seriously making faces. Could you call in the nurse?”

“Alrighty!” James perked up, and gently moved his wife from his lap, to rest on the pile of blankets beside him. He skipped out the door, when Harry’s eyes started flickering like he was dreaming.

“I miss your eyes. Can you open them please?” Hermione whispered, moving her hand to cup his chin. Her response is a seriously scrunched face, and a raspy voice.

“Burr-ite.”

“He’s awake?!” There’s a crunch coming from the air mattress, the light is shut off, and Lily’s on Harry’s other side. Her hand reaches out to stroke his hair.

“Seems like it! Harry, love, can you hear me?” Hermione whispers.

“I got the doctor!” James yells, throwing the door open and striding into the room. “Any change?”

“L-ow-d,” rasps Harry.

“Bloody hell! He’s awake!” James exclaims, rushing up to beside his wife.

“I need you all to move away from the bed, so that I can look at him closer, please,” the doctor says, pulling his scope off of his neck.

The group moves away, and Hermione gracelessly drops her laptop onto the mattress. After what feels like hours, the doctor turns to them and says, “he’s fine. Let him readjust.”

Hermione is the first there, and she slips her fingers through his hair. “Hey handsome. Good to see your eyes again.”

A quirk of his lips. “Mione. What am I doing here?”

“Ron gave you a bonk.”

“Harry! You’re awake!!” Lily shouts, going onto Harry’s other side. James creeps up behind her.

“L-ow-d,” Harry whispers again.

“Oh I’m sorry, honey. You’re awake!”

“M-uh-m?” He rasps out. “Duh-add?”

“Yes, honey, we’re here. You’re okay.” Lily replies.

“Th-aw-gh-t yu-ew we-er d-eh-d,” Harry states, his words chopped and stuck. Likely a result of the impact of waking up, and possible aphasia.

Hermione and Lily share a glance. His raised EEG levels were in fact due to a hallucination.

“You were out for a while, honey.”

“So… I dreemed it?” He slurs out.

“Yes, son. You dreamed it.” James says, putting his hand on his son’s.

“‘S go-od. Was a we-ird dre-em.”

Turns out, Harry hallucinated being a wizard, which sent Lily into a laughing fit. Harry told her that he had fought some bald snake man with a stick, and married Ron’s sister.

Harry told Hermione that she’d married Ron, and she was splitting a gut with laughter. Though they had all been friends as kids, Ron was far too irritated with Hermione and vice-versa.

James and Lily weren’t too concerned about the concepts in Harry’s dream. They just kept asking him what the hell a huddle poof was.

Can I share a little headcanon with you?(im going to anyway so sorry if you say no)

In Everlong (don’t ask me why) but I can somehow see James and lily having twins - a boy and a girl. Every time I think of them and imagine their future, I always see them with two kids, Sirius and Marlene with a little girl a few years younger, and then Teddy about 10 years younger than the twins. And obviously Mia and Monty living to see their grandkids grow up to older than the age of 10 months 🥹

I’ve adopted these twins as my personal headcanon for any sort of jily muggle AU HC universe that I’ve built up in my head - like q round of characters and personalities that they would have in a story if I ever get round to writing.

Everlong has a lot to do with that HC - lily and Remus being teachers, that childhood friends to lovers trope for Jily, the close dynamic of the VVA group chat (and the potters having at least 2 teslas between James and Fleamont 🤣🤣)

Yeah so literally NO ONE asked for this so idk read knwo why I’ve written it all out.

But I can’t stop thinking about Everlong and I figured I’d try and articulate why 🤣🥹

I have Harry as an only child, for a few reasons, but mainly I like the idea of his childhood being parallel to James', with his parents offering a great example of love etc.

Sirius and Marlene having a daughter (or twin girls) who grow up besties with Harry 💕

1.holy shit ayesha i just found your blog after what, six, seven years? i don't know when/if you'll see this but i was this tiny thirteen year old on tumblr, absolutely goggle-eyed over jily and everyone within the jily fanfic circle (what was it called? you guys had a name im sure). i'm 18 and in my first year of uni rn, and it just struck me how time really FLIES. i was feeling a little low and impulsively decided to binge jily fanfics (something i havent done in close to half a decade) and it

2. all just came flooding back. the amount of time i spent reading jily fic! staying up till 4am writing my own terrible stories on the back of my school notebooks! some of the happiest, most creative years i've spent have been with you guys tbh, soaking in everything. i'm so delighted your blog's still up - it's like a small pocket of my girlhood, a window into the past. much much love and i hope you're doing well. (we never talked or interacted much, but i held you in very high esteem). <3

Omg, this is such a sweet message to receive! Similarly, I did spend a lot of my teenhood in that HP/Jily space. I'm so glad that the conversations and space were a happy place for you!! It feels like such a creative whirlwind and wild time in retrospect, and especially where now I don't really feel the connection to HP itself anymore, I am so glad to have had created some good memories with wonderful people.

Hahaha, I can't say I ever particularly felt connected with a group name myself (aside from Brorgy, shout-out to Katie, Kristina, and Todd), but I do still have 'never be royals' and 'moviepaloozaparty' in my tracked tags, in the remnants of group chat names from that time.

I'm glad that my blog can serve as that window. Time really does fly; this blog has been up for ten years. I definitely still hang out on the internet and share interests; they're just a bit different now! I think I'll always love this kind media engagement and creative outlet. I'm very flattered that any of it has made an impact.

It's both, really. We tell a story line by line and sometimes there is commentary that slips in 🙃 It's basically crack fic! Not meant to be taken too seriously but hopefully it will make some people laugh (we certainly did when writing!).

I remember reading a jily fic that was a modern AU and told mostly through texting (similar to yours, v funny) where they were in high school and in a series of group chats. all i remember from the fic is that throughout the plot they’re trying to figure out who started a fire at the school and Lily is suspended for it at one point. would you or your lovely followers have any idea about this fic? xx
