So doing my rewatch of 9-1-1 before I actually start watching season 7 (although feel like I’ve seen most of it through here and twitter) and in Chim Begins, Chim saves Tommy from dying from a methane leak. So in conclusion we have Chimney to thank for BuckTommy and bi!Buck revelation

if you love him let him go (if you love him let him know)
pre-buddie, bucktommy | T | 3k | angst, pining tommy needs to tell eddie something not on ao3 atm because i can't figure out if this is done or if i'm continuing it - please let me know your thoughts! now on ao3 because i hate not having all my fic in one place
“Can I get you another beer, man?”
Eddie checks his watch. It’s only a little after nine thirty. He’s kind of hoping to get home before Chris goes to sleep, but he’ll not be heading to bed any time soon, will likely stay up later than Eddie. Friday night means he disregards his supposed bedtime — not that he sticks to it that well on school nights, now he’s sixteen. “Sure, thanks.”
Tommy nods, disappears into the kitchen, returns a moment later with a can of IPA in one hand, a bottle of lager in the other. They’ve already finished the six-pack Eddie brought over, but trust Buck — well, Buck and Tommy — to have Eddie’s favorite beer in their fridge. Tommy hands over the can, already cracked open, and Eddie takes a sip as Tommy settles down at the opposite end of the couch. He doesn’t turn to face the TV, sits twisted towards Eddie instead, but he does pick up the remote and turn down the volume, the post-fight commentary rendered nearly unintelligible.
“I wanted to talk to you about something.”
Eddie twists towards Tommy himself, something not-quite-anxious-but-almost flaring in his chest. Over the years they have been friends, he and Tommy have spoken about lots of things, including those not so easy to discuss: their respective experiences in the army, Tommy’s tough childhood, Eddie’s difficult parents, the hard aspects of the job. But they’ve all been topics that have come up naturally, raised organically. Tommy has never led into anything with such a pointed opener before.
Eddie studies him. He has one knee pulled up on the couch cushion, foot poking out off the end, the other foot planted on the floor, nearly parallel to the base of the couch. One arm is up on the backrest, the other relaxed, beer bottle in that hand, resting on his thigh, dripping condensation painting a charcoal ring on his — probably Buck’s, in fact, given how tight the fabric is stretched over the muscle of his leg — grey sweats. He’s not tense, but he’s not smiling, and there’s something about his expression that Eddie can’t place. It’s not that he hasn’t seen this look before, because he’s pretty sure he has, witnessed it in flickers across numerous occasions over the years, there and then gone, present for but a heartbeat. But he’d never known what it meant any of those times and he certainly doesn’t now.
“'Course,” Eddie says, when Tommy doesn’t go on, seems to be waiting for some kind of sign. Then adds, feeling like it’s necessary given the gravity he can feel pulling this lightsome evening down to something more serious.  “Anything.”
Tommy sighs, bites his lip like he doesn’t want to speak, even though he’s the one who said he wanted to talk, then shakes his head and takes a pull of his beer.
“Is everything okay?” Eddie’s starting to feel worried now. He mentally scans back over the past few weeks, trying to remember if Tommy has mentioned anything about work that could be a problem. He saw him at basketball last week, and nothing had seemed off. Plus, Buck hasn’t said anything. Not that he’d necessarily tell Eddie about an issue Tommy was having, not if Tommy wanted it kept private, but Eddie can usually tell when Buck’s concerned about someone, and he hasn’t picked up on anything, not at all.
But maybe this isn’t about a problem Tommy is having. Maybe this is a Buck problem, something Buck has kept from Eddie. It would make sense why Tommy would bring it up with him; sometimes a concerted, multi-person effort is the only way to get through to Buck. And Tommy’s more likely to bring in Eddie first, and then expand the team to include Maddie, Chim, more, as needed.
“Is Buck okay?” Eddie asks, something like panic constricting his throat, making the words come out a little strangled.
Tommy actually laughs at that, a small, choked thing, an exhale of sound and air. He shakes his head again, but not a no. More like an extension of the laugh, a motion to accompany it, to better convey the disbelief — not humor — contained in it. “He’s fine.”
It’s a relief to hear. Buck had seemed physically okay, when Eddie had seen him briefly before he left the house, since he’d maybe purposefully waited to order his Uber until Buck pulled up in his jeep outside, despite Christopher’s insistence he didn’t need to wait for Buck to arrive, despite the fact that his kid is more than old enough to be left in the house alone for the twenty minutes it would have taken Buck to drive over, while Eddie was ferried the opposite way. But there could still have been something, Buck could have been fighting through pain, much better at hiding any hurt of his body than he is at masking his emotional distress.
“But,” Tommy says, and that one word is enough to have Eddie’s muscles tightening once more, “It is Evan I wanted to talk about.”
Again, Tommy doesn’t follow it up with anything. Eddie has found, in their time as friends, that Tommy is not often a man lost for words. Quite the opposite, in fact. He usually says what he means, means what he says, and is an expert at listening and delivering sage advice. This reticence– it doesn’t feel like it bodes well, has the hair on the back of Eddie’s neck prickling.
“Alright,” Eddie says, a feeble prompt. “So, Buck?”
Tommy nods, like he’s gearing himself up for something, to face a challenge, to take a punch. Eddie is expecting something bad, so the words he says catch him even more off guard than they would have. “I want to ask Evan to marry me.”
Maybe if Tommy had seemed eager, excited, when he turned to him, Eddie could have anticipated the blow, could have felt a creeping suspicion this is where Tommy was headed, could have been provided with enough of a heads-up to brace himself. As it is, he doesn’t see the hit coming, takes it full force to the chest, so hard it steals his breath, knocks the wind from him. His mouth goes slack, and he feels his fingers slide against the slippery sides of his beer can, almost spills it over Tommy and Buck’s lounge carpet before he gets a hold on it, on himself. He forces himself to smile. “That’s– that’s great,” he makes himself say, only faintly aware that Tommy isn’t smiling back, like this moment should call for. “Did you–” he swallows around the bile climbing his esophagus, “Do you want help planning the proposal?” He wishes he could take the words back the second they’re out. Because this — just hearing that Tommy wants to ask Buck — is torture enough. To be involved with it, to help enable it, Eddie will be lucky if it doesn’t kill him. Maybe not his body, but certainly his soul.
“No.” Tommy shakes his head. “No, I want to ask him to marry me. But I’m not going to. At least, not now.”
Eddie squints at him. The news that Tommy wants to marry Buck might hurt Eddie, but it’s not exactly surprising. Eddie’s seen how much Tommy cares for him in the years they’ve been together, has seen the way he looks at him, the way they look at each other. Has felt the way it burns him, the scorching heat of flame, the searing cold of ice. He doesn’t understand what Tommy is saying, doesn’t understand why this proclamation seems not to be a happy one. “Why not?” Eddie asks, almost grateful for the opportunity to present confusion, curiosity, rather than forced pleasure at the thought of one of his closest friends and his– best friend marrying each other. “You guys are serious. I mean, you live together.”
Tommy huffs another laugh, still more disbelief than humor, really the opposite of humor. “His lease was up.”
“Right. But he chose not to renew it. He chose to move in with you,” Eddie says, slow, struggling to understand, the pounding of his pulse not helping him think clearly, see through the puzzle that is everything Tommy has said so far and the way he has said it.
“He was never going to renew it,” Tommy tells him.
And that’s– that’s something Eddie didn’t know. He hates it when he learns information about Buck from Tommy, always has, even though he fights with everything in him not to feel like that. Tommy is Buck’s boyfriend, of course he’s going to know things about him that Eddie doesn’t, know him in a way that Eddie doesn’t.
“We hadn’t spoken about living together,” Tommy says, eyes on Eddie. “But he’d said he thought the loft was too expensive and he was spending nearly every night at mine by that point. When he wasn’t on shift. Or at yours.” Eddie pulls his eyes away, takes a sip from his beer for something to do, even though the bitter taste is turning his stomach. “He said he wasn’t going to renew it, that he’d look for somewhere new, cheaper. But this was too close to the end of his lease to find a place before he had to move out. I asked where he was going to stay in the meantime.”
“And he said with you,” Eddie guesses, more a statement than a question.
But Tommy shakes his head. A smile curls his lips but his eyes– his eyes don’t match. “He said he’d crash on your couch, actually.”
Eddie takes another mouthful of beer, holds it there, on the back of his tongue. He didn’t know any of this. Buck would, of course, have been more than welcome. Likely why he hadn’t asked in advance, why he planned for it without seeking permission.
“I said he could stay with me, instead. That he’d be able to sleep in a bed here.” Eddie swallows, the beer somehow thick and cloying in a way that it shouldn’t be. “And then when he started making noises about looking for a new place, I told him he should stay.”
While it’s not how Eddie had, unwillingly, pictured it in his head — Tommy and Buck mutually agreeing that Buck shouldn’t renew his lease, deciding they wanted to live together — it still doesn’t explain what Tommy has said. “And he did stay,” Eddie says. “So, why aren’t– Does Buck not want to get married?” But that can’t be it, that can’t be right. Eddie is certain Buck does want to be married, only he’d tried hard not to think of Buck wanting that with Tommy, with anyone. Anyone else.
“No, he does,” Tommy confirms it. He leans over and deposits his beer on the coffee table. Then sits back, still turned to Eddie, but arms crossed over his chest, like a protection of himself. “We’ve spoken about it, discussed it. And he’s told me he’s always wanted that, to get married, to be part of a family.” Tommy pops one hand out of the fold of his arms to hold it up, out, quelling, like Eddie has protested. He hasn’t, but his heart is doing something approximating a riot at the idea of Tommy being Buck’s family. “And I know he has a family. He knows he does. In you and Chris, in Maddie and Jee, in the 118. But–” Tommy breaks off, tips his head to the side, gaze boring into Eddie’s face so strong that Eddie wishes he could turn away, duck and run. “You know how much he’s always wanted to belong somewhere.”
He does, Eddie thinks, the thought almost violent in its intensity. He belongs with me. Except, he doesn’t. Not really, not how Eddie wants, not the way he does with Tommy.
“And I want that for him,” Tommy goes on, tucking his hand back in, squeezing his arms tighter about himself. Eddie’s never seen him like this, hunched in on himself, curled small. Tommy is usually so open, larger than life. “I want to be the one to give that to him.”
Eddie wants to be the one to give that to him. Desires it desperately, a secret need he’s tucked as far inside himself as he can. He can feel it now, raging to be let out, to be set free. But he can’t, he won’t. Buck is with Tommy, he’s happy with Tommy. Tommy who is so warm and kind and good, Tommy who is better than Eddie in every conceivable way, who brings so much to Buck’s life, who gives all of himself to Buck. Who wants to give him even more. Wants to, but apparently won’t.
Eddie doesn’t understand. “Then, if you want to, why won’t you ask him?” he questions, trying to.
“If I ask him now, he’ll say no.” Tommy states it like indisputable fact, like it’s the most obvious thing in the world that Buck would refuse him.
Eddie shakes his head, understanding even less. “But he loves you.”
Tommy smiles again, then, larger than he had before, but as devoid of happiness, as empty of cheer. This smile hurts to see, reflects the way Eddie felt inside when Tommy had said I want to ask Evan to marry me. “I know he does.” Tommy’s tone is sure, but wistful. “But he loves you more.”
It’s like– It’s like nothing Eddie has ever felt. Or maybe it’s like everything he’s ever felt. The shock of a residual lightning bolt, the joy of being a part of the 118, the pain of a bullet ripping through his shoulder, the awe of holding his son for the first time. Eddie wants Tommy’s words to be true maybe more than he’s ever wanted anything. But he also cannot believe them, has no trust that they are true. Because they can’t be. Buck loves Tommy. Not Eddie.
“We’re friends. Best friends,” Eddie points out. “Of course, he– he loves me. But not more. Not like he loves you. He’s in love with you.”
Tommy sighs, arms uncrossing, palms coming to rest on his thighs, body taking on a posture Eddie is familiar with, the one he falls into when he’s talking someone through something, the one he adopted when Eddie came out to him some six months ago. “Eddie, he’s in love with you.”
Eddie shakes his head. It’s everything he’s ever wanted to hear, but coming from the wrong lips. Spoken by not by Buck himself but by Buck’s boyfriend, oh god. “He isn’t. Tommy, he can’t be.”
But Tommy is nodding, nodding like what he’s said is true, like he wants Eddie to believe it.
“He’s not,” Eddie says, hears the denial, the disbelief spill from him. Buck doesn’t love him. He doesn’t. But Eddie– Eddie loves– “I’m sorry,” Eddie says, almost a gasp. “Tommy, I’m sorry, I–”
“It’s not your fault,” Tommy cuts him off. “I knew what I was getting into. When I started seeing Evan, I knew there were going to be three people in this relationship. I just–” Tommy sighs again, scrubs his palms along his thighs. “I didn’t expect it to get this far. I thought we’d just be a fun, easy thing. Something to ease Evan into his sexuality, that new part of himself. I didn’t expect it to go like this. I didn’t expect to feel like this.” Tommy closes his eyes, lashes falling to his cheeks. He breaths in and out, while Eddie’s own breath is caught in his chest. When Tommy opens his eyes, he says, “But I don’t have to tell you how easy it is to love him.”
Fuck. Tommy knows. Because Eddie does. He loves Buck, loves him so endlessly he doesn’t know where the feeling starts and where it ends. Doesn’t know when it started; doesn’t think it will ever end. “I’m sorry,” Eddie whispers, needing to say the words again, needing Tommy — his friend — to hear them.
Tommy lifts one palm from his thigh, his wrist pressing into the muscle as he cuts his fingers to the side in a dismissal. “Don’t apologize for it. I’m certainly not going to. I’m never going to be sorry for loving him.” He drops his hand back down, pats his leg, emphasis of the point. “But it is a problem.” He smiles, rueful. “I thought I’d be able to break up with him, if he didn’t break up with me. I should have, ages ago. I certainly should have when you came out.”
Eddie, selfishly, had hoped Buck would break up with Tommy then. But it had seemed like a farfetched fantasy. He had told Buck he was queer after Buck had already moved in with Tommy. He’d admitted it to himself, to Frank, before that, but hadn’t told anyone else for weeks. In hindsight, sometimes he figures he’d left it too late, but most of the time he didn’t think it would have made a difference at all. But now, with what Tommy has told him, maybe it would have. It’s a knife sliding between Eddie’s ribs to think maybe. Maybe.
“But I didn’t.” Tommy looks resigned, shoulders drooping.
“Why are you telling me this?” Eddie needs to know. It seems like Tommy has known for years that Eddie has loved Buck. Loves Buck. I knew there were going to be three people in this relationship. So why is he only bringing it up now?
“Because I didn’t. Because I can’t. I can’t break up with him. But I want to move forward. And I want to do so with him, for us to further our life together. But if I ask him to marry me when he doesn’t know for sure that you’re not an option, he’ll say no.”
Fear freezes Eddie’s insides. “So, what– what are you asking me to do?” Because Tommy is asking something of Eddie, wants something. Something Eddie fears he will have to make himself give.
Tommy straightens up, shoulders rolling back. He’s serious, solemn but not demanding or pleading when he says it. A devastating request. “I’m asking you, as my friend, to let him go.”
Eddie could be sick, he thinks, could vomit up the three and a quarter beers and the half a dozen chicken wings he’s consumed since he got to Tommy and Buck’s place. Could spill the mess of his insides up all over himself, all over Tommy, all over their lives. Tommy is his friend, was his friend before he was ever Buck’s boyfriend. Eddie should do this thing for him. Should give Buck his blessing to marry Tommy, give Buck up, give him over, completely, to this man who has loved him so well for the past three years. Eddie should; in his gut he knows it would be the right thing to do. But his heart– his heart is in revolt. It’s Buck. He loves him. How can he ever let him go?
Tommy leans forward, places a hand on Eddie’s leg, squeezes his fingers around the ball of his kneecap, until Eddie lifts his gaze and meets his eyes. “Or,” he says, somehow even more serious, “I am telling you, as your friend, to go and get him.”

Buck x reader - my shield
Tumblr media
A Buck (911) shy reader please? His friends thinks Buck is making things up that he has a girlfriend or shy reader picked her best friend to be they godfather of their newborn son who’s a mama boi. Then Buck thought it’s a good idea bringing his friend to the hospital to see his family - Anon💜
Buck smiled down at his phone as he saw the message notification from you, and he opened the text.
“What’s got you so happy?” Eddie asked.
Everyone looked up from where they were sat over to the young firefighter.
“My girlfriend messaged me.” Buck beamed.
“We’re still going on about that? Really?” Chim laughed.
Buck furrowed his brows a little bit.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, we know you, you’ve probably slept with more women then everyone here combined. No offence.” Hen said.
Buck put his phone into his pocket.
“I’m capable of having a girlfriend!”
“We’re not saying that! We’re just saying it’s not likely.” Chin snickered.
Buck stormed away, and when his shift ended he immediately went to your apartment and knocked on the door.
It didn’t take long for you to answer, and one looked at him and you had your arms around him.
Buck hugged you tightly, burying his face into your shoulder as he let out a deep sigh.
You placed your hand on the back of his head and just held him for a few minutes in silence, standing out in the hallway of the apartment complex.
“What’s wrong…?” You whispered.
You pulled away and slowly dragged him into your apartment and closed the door, leading him over to the couch.
Sitting him down, you sat cross legged next to him, taking his hands in yours as you gazed at him.
“I’m.. im so fed up of everyone saying I don’t have a girlfriend!” He exclaimed.
You furrowed your brows a little bit.
“They think because I was a dick when I first joined I still am. But I’ve been trying to tell them for months I’m not like that anymore…” he mumbled.
You gave Bucks hands a small squeeze and smiled softly at him.
“I know you’re not Evan.”
He sighed softly.
“It’s just frustrating you know… I want them to believe me…”
You nodded your head in understanding.
“Well, they’re doing that BBQ tomorrow… right?”
Buck nodded his head and looked up at you.
“I’ll come with you.”
“You don’t like things like that.”
“No. But you do, and then they can see you’re telling the truth.”
You smiled sweetly up at him, and Buck smiled back, leaning down to capture you in a soft kiss before he pulled away.
“You’re amazing…”
He wrapped his arms around you and pulled you into him, cuddling you while you guys just watched some crappy films.
When the next day rolled around, you both got ready to go to the station for the BBQ.
It was his day off, but he said he’d go anyways, and since he was going you wanted to go with him to show everyone he wasn’t lying and you were real.
But as you guys drove there, you were nervous. You couldn’t stop fidgeting and when Buck pulled his car into a spot, he stopped and reached over, taking your hand in his.
“You don’t have to do this you know that right?”
He looked at you in concern and you smiled at him, nodding your head.
“I know. But I.. I want to.”
Buck smiled and nodded his head and you both got out of the car, and he took your hand in his, letting you hide yourself behind him slightly.
He smiled down at you.
“When you’re ready to go we’ll go.” He said softly.
“Thank you…”
He led you around the front of the building and you saw a group of people all laughing and talking.
“And he finally shows up!”
“Shut it Chim.” Buck snapped.
You squeeze his hand and he sighed, giving you an apologetic look.
“And he’s brought company, who’s this?” Bobby smiled.
“Guys, this is (Y/N). My girlfriend.”
You gave them a shy wave and all they could do was stare in shock as they looked at you.
You were so different from Buck, shy, quiet, but they could only smile warmly at the sight of you using him as your shield

you get me so high - e.b
Tumblr media
summary: request
evan buckley x reader
gif does not belong to me
a/n: i adore this idea, thank you for sharing <3 i worked on this very sporadically, and i’m not the biggest fan of it but i hope you enjoy!
whoever brought those brownies in was an angel to y/n. yeah, a felony for sure, but she’d be lying if she said she didn’t secretly enjoy it.
even though the whole station had been haunted by taylor and her team the entire day, all of the worries of the job seemed to vanish. buck wasn’t sure why, but he just saw everything different than he has before. nature called for him and he was more than excited to be at his job.
he just wanted to laugh at everything, each little girl in front of him was the most adorable thing he’s ever seen. he watched y/n from across the room, sitting on the floor and playing with a girl in a massive dress shaped like a pastry.
“where did you get this dress?” she asks, running her fingers down the satin on the side.
“my mommy bought it for me!”
“can she buy one for me?” y/n asks, turning her head to see the grown firefighter skipping over.
“y/n!” he shoots out quickly, jogging over to lean next to her on the ground.
“hi buck! will you buy me a dress like this?”
“only if you buy me one,” he smiles. “maybe we should put bobby in one.” he starts completely laughing at the thought of bobby in a pretty pink dress, with a sash and a tiara.
“what is going on- buck!” chim shouts. “can someone help us over here?”
“how are we not helping?” buck asks, leading y/n to just shrug. they glance over at eddie in the corner, looking at all the pageant girls like they have 5 heads. he almost looks fearful of them, swaying in his spot.
the next few minutes were a blur, and suddenly they were all handcuffed together against a wall. hen, eddie, buck, and y/n were all connected by their hands, being watched by athena like they misbehaved at school.
“ooh, you made him cry!” buck teases, looking at the tears streaming down eddie’s face. y/n just looks closer to athena’s face.
“you’re a hot cop, thena,” y/n speaks airily, just smiling cheekily at the officer in front of her.
“you guys are high as hell and you’re on duty.”
“what?” hen exclaims. “i didn’t smoke anything-“
“well you ate something! someone brought marijuana brownies into the station, so you’re all off work.”
the team just looks around in shock, not fully caring until y/n and buck start giggling once more. “just- just sit down against this wall, and do not move.” athena demands, walking away to deal with the other emergency in the main room.
y/n and buck sat fine against the wall, comparing hands and very lightly slapping each other on the sides. a few spouts of silence would happen for a few minutes while the group of stoners just watched the world pass in front of them.
“buck,” y/n whispers.
“what?” he asks.
“you’re really cute, like i just figured i’d let you know.”
“thanks, you’re a cutie, too,” she giggles at his words, throwing her head back against the wall as he just glances at her. normal, sober buck would’ve had a racing heart and nerves fluttering all over his body because she told him he was cute. he knows he’s not bad looking, but hearing it from her is when he truly believes it. now, he just figured why not? yolo, anyway.
“no, you’re like cute cute. like hot oiled up firefighter cute.”
“that means so much, y/n,” he says, the sly remark almost making his heart clench.
“i want you under my christmas tree.”
“well, i want you in an easter egg for me.”
“well, i want you-“
“can you just shut up?” eddie asks, still distressed about being handcuffed and drugged. “we get it, you’re into each other. and what happens when you’re not high?”
“i don’t remember talking to you,” buck teases, giving eddie a side eye but keeping his head directed towards the pretty girl next to him.
“alright,” athena comes back into sight. “let’s get you all home, maybe sleep off some of this.”
the next morning, y/n remembered every little thing she said to buck, and he remembered every little thing he said to her. they hoped maybe it was like alcohol, making them forget what they may or may not have said, but nope. it was clear as day. it didn’t feel as awkward, though. it felt easier. like a weight was off their shoulders after being weighed down for so long.
when they both arrived at work, the look from the other just told them everything they had to know. buck meant everything he said, and so did she. her eyes lightly wandered over his, and he didn’t even make her say anything. they both knew that those cookies made a great thing burst open.

rae!!! thank you mwah (also requested by an anon & @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove <3)

buck/eddie | 1.7k | rated t | prompts: absurd terms of endearment | ao3
The day Eddie calls him that for the first time, Buck’s tearing through the hospital at top speed, narrowly avoiding mowing down nurses as he stumbles toward Eddie’s room.
He’s okay, Buck knows he’s okay, he’s just here on concussion watch and because he needed a doctor to reset his shoulder when it was dislocated at the house fire earlier. He’d been talking and coherent when Hen and Chim bundled him into the ambulance, reassuring them all that he felt fine, terribly unconvincing given the grimace, but no cause for major worry either.
Still, Buck couldn’t ride with him to the hospital, having to finish their shift and wash off an inch of soot before hurrying to pick up Chris from school. Even rushing through his shower and haphazardly pulling on his civvies so not to alarm Christopher didn’t feel fast enough, and when Chris had started to kick up a fuss about being dropped at Pepa’s instead of coming with Buck to the hospital, he’d nearly torn his hair out.
He’d placated Chris with the promise that he’d try and get Eddie released this evening, happy as ever to volunteer to spend the night keeping watch at the Diaz house. Thirty minutes and several agonising red lights later, he’s here, barging right into this hospital room before any orderlies can stop him.
Hen blinks at him from her seat beside Eddie’s bed, eyebrows raised.
“You’re loud enough to wake the morgue,” she informs him, sipping her paper cup of coffee. “Bull in a goddamn china shop.”
Buck frowns at her good-naturedly, rounding the bed to Eddie’s other side.
He’s sat up against some pillows, bleary-eyed but smiling at Buck. “You came.”
“Of course I came,” Buck huffs, squeezing his arm gently.
“You always come,” Eddie agrees. His eyes are glassy from the mix of pain and painkillers, voice slurring ever-so-slightly. “Mi patito.”
Hen chokes on her coffee, coughs turning into laughter. “Your what?”
Eddie’s lips turn down at the corners as he looks at her, pouting. “He’s got the little tail, look.”
He gestures at Buck’s ass, and Buck cranes his head back to see what he’s pointing at. His shirt isn’t tucked in properly at the back, sticking out of the waistband of his pants in an upturned fold of fabric.
“Patito,” Eddie says again, nodding. “Little duckling.”
Hen snorts, dissolving into laughter as she doubles over in the tiny plastic chair. Buck shoves the hem of his shirt into his trousers properly, disgruntled by their amusement.
“Duckling, huh?” Hen grins. “I guess he does follow you around enough.”
“He followed me into the house today,” Eddie says, leaning back heavily into his pillows. It’s true—Buck had ignored Bobby’s shouts to stay put and raced back into the burning building after Eddie’s pained grunt had come through the radio, a badly-secured beam glancing off him as it fell. “Stupid as hell, but would’ve had a lot worse than a fucked shoulder if he hadn’t.”
Buck’s not sure if that’s a compliment or an admonishment, but it’s absolutely soaked with affection, so he doesn’t let himself dwell on it, smiling wryly back at Eddie.
Eddie’s studying his face, serious even if the corner of his mouth is tugging up on the right, smile inevitable.
“He’d follow me anywhere,” he says, confident, to Buck or to Hen or just the room at large. “Patito.”
Buck feels a sudden wave of embarrassment, caught out and called out on this thing that was never meant to be a secret but he hadn’t planned on saying out loud anyway, hoping no one would draw attention to the bottomless well of devotion he houses for Eddie. That he’d do anything and everything if only it meant he’d be beside Eddie for it. He’s scraped raw, naked under fluorescent lights for everyone to see.
Hen, perceptive to a fault, stands, ignoring Buck’s flaming cheeks and whatever shame is rolling off him right now.
“M’gonna check with the nurses about when he can be discharged,” she murmurs, leaving the room quietly.
Buck swallows, ducking his head as he sits. He doesn’t look directly at Eddie, instead fiddling with the scratchy blanket on the bed.
“Buck?” Eddie asks. Buck doesn’t look up. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No, ’course not,” Buck says, shaking his head and smoothing out the blanket. “You’re right, I-I do follow you everywhere.”
“Okay,” Eddie says carefully. “Is that bad?”
Buck huffs a laugh. “No, no, it’s not. Just—revealing, I guess.”
Eddie’s silent for long enough that Buck chances a glance at him. His brow is furrowed deeply, and he’s frowning at Buck.
“I would follow you anywhere too, you know,” he says.
Buck’s heart flip-flops. He does know this, and it’s nice to be told, but he thinks all his endless adoration, the entirely unshakable loyalty with which he follows Eddie, comes from a considerably different place than Eddie’s. The roots of his wanting wrap around his heart and clench tight in ways Eddie’ll never be familiar with, steadfast friendship being the only thing he’s ever wanted from Buck.
“I know,” he says anyway, moving one hand to grasp Eddie’s briefly. “I know, Eds.”
A nurse bustles into the room, patient chart in hand.
“Alright,” she says, “hello there. Are you Mr Diaz’s partner? Will you be taking him home today? He needs regular monitoring tonight, but Firefighter Wilson mentioned your line of work, so he should be good to be looked after at home by his significant other.”
“Oh,” Buck says. “Um, yes. And no. Yes, I’m taking him home. No, I’m not his significant other—I’m just his, uh, work partner.”
“Oh! Sorry for the misunderstanding,” the nurse says cheerfully. “Shall we go over the concussion protocol before we get him discharged?”
Buck lets her run him through what to do and what to watch out for, well-versed in this rodeo but nodding in all the right places anyway. When she leaves to sort out the paperwork, he turns back to Eddie, who’s be quiet for this whole exchange.
“Actually, speaking of,” Buck starts, pulling the words out of his throat like barbed wire, “do you want me to call Marisol and, uh, let her know what happened?”
Eddie scowls at him. “Marisol? Why the hell would you call her?”
“Because she’s your actual significant other?” Buck says, frowning at the unreasonable amount of derision Eddie’s throwing his way. “And she might like to know that you were hurt?”
“She is not my significant other,” Eddie says, looking deeply unhappy.
Buck blinks. “What? Since when?”
“Since…” Eddie screws up his face as he thinks, and then screws it up in a different way when the pull of his muscles must aggravate the headache concussions so generously come with. “Since two Thursdays ago. The 14th. The day we had the fighter jet call.”
“Oh,” Buck says.
His heart isn’t sure what to do—glow bright at the thought of Eddie’s relationship crashing and burning, because Buck’s not as good a friend as he wishes he was, or sink even further at the fact that Eddie, even hopped up on heavy-duty drugs, can pinpoint with such precision the exact day they ended things, his unhappy face only further proof that the break-up was probably not his decision, if he’s so cut up about it. Which—
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Buck asks. “I’m sorry, man.”
Eddie shakes his head. “Don’t be sorry. Why are you sorry? Also, you didn’t tell me when you broke up with Natalia, so…”
“I did,” Buck protests. “I told you that day in the locker room, that day that—”
He cuts himself off, breathless for no reason.
He did tell Eddie in the locker room, the day that they had the fighter jet call. The 14th. Two Thursdays ago.
“Eddie?” he asks.
“I texted her from the station parking lot,” Eddie confesses. “After Chris’s date went home, I, uh. I went over to her place and broke up with her.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Buck asks again, infinitely more hushed.
“’Cause you’d follow me anywhere, patito,” Eddie says softly, and his voice is so brimming with sadness, Buck’s chest aches. “Didn’t—didn’t know if this would be something you’d—actually want, or if you’d try anyway just because I asked.”
“Eddie,” Buck breathes, a quiet and desperate thing. “Eddie, you have to know—”
“I know you love me, Buck. And—whatever way that is, I’ll take it. Okay? I just—I couldn’t pretend that that thing with Marisol was anything more than me trying to—trying to—fill some gap while you were with Natalia. And I was a dick, but—you broke up with Natalia and I’m so tired of pretending. I’d follow you anywhere, patito, but I—I wish you’d follow me home.”
“Okay,” Buck nods, heart whirring with this new revelation and taking upon itself to glow, not in petty vindication, but with sweet, sticky happiness, honey-gold and sun-warm as it spreads from cell to cell, his whole body alive with it. “Okay. I’m following you home.”
“I know you are now,” Eddie frowns. “You have to make sure I don’t die in my sleep.”
“Jesus, Eddie, first of all, dark,” Buck laughs, “and, secondly, no, I mean I’m following you home. I mean I love you in every way. I mean I broke up with Natalia because everything was always about death and I want things to be about life and—that’s you. It’s been you for a long time.”
“Oh,” Eddie says, still frowning. “Does this mean you’re not sleeping on the couch tonight?”
“Do you want me to sleep on the couch tonight?”
Eddie shakes his head. “No, I’ve never wanted you to sleep on the couch. You’re always falling asleep on that damn couch. I want you to fall asleep in my bed.”
Buck laughs again. “I think we can make that happen.”
The nurse comes back in with discharge papers, Hen at her shoulder, and Eddie asks, “Hey, what’s the medical advice about making out with a concussion?”
Hen says, “Oh, for the love of God.”
And, Buck thinks, if you’re hand-in-hand with someone the way the two of them are, who’s following who doesn’t really matter, because they’re getting there together.

Why many people dislike Tommy Kinard
Listen, I don't like to try and dictate what characters others can like. However, I do find it concerning how quick so many people are to forgive a bigot who didn't even get a proper redemption. So, especially for those who simply don't really remember Tommy, here's a quick recap of him:
Let's start with Chimney Begins. Tommy is one of the firefighters at the 118 when Chimney becomes part of the team. The first thing Tommy says when Chim arrives is 'Hey Eli, did you forget to tip the delivery guy?' On its own, this isn't really bad, because it could very much just be a harmless joke. But in combination with Tommy's behavior throughout the rest of the episode, one could argue the comment has racist undertones. But this one's up to interpretation so let's move on.
Although not explicitly stated, it's very obvious the 118 captain is racist which is reflected in the way he treats him: he only lets him do annoying chores, is a jerk towards him, actively isolates him, and so on.
The rest of the team, including Tommy, does nothing to try and change this. In fact, they actively take part in isolating him too, for example by letting him sit by himself at a tiny table instead of the group table while they eat. Even when Chimney attempts to talk to them, everyone but Eli (the paramedic who ends up training Chim) blatantly ignores him.
One time, Chim and Tommy are alone in the locker room and Chim says: "Hey man, let's build a bridge here." Tommy doesn't even react. Chim keeps making suggestions of things they could talk about, like movies or sports, to which Tommy still doesn't react except by rolling his eyes. Chim then asks: "You just really don't like me much, do you?" and Tommy responds: "If I thought about you at all, honestly, I probably wouldn't."
Mind you, he doesn't even know Chimney and yet he's pretty sure he wouldn't like him. What exactly is he basing that on? Race, perhaps? (Tommy is very close to some other guys on the team by the way.)
Eli tells Chim that the treatment isn't personal and that the reason everyone is so distant is because in this job, friends die and that the team isn't just gonna give Chim their friendship until they earn his respect. "You don't name a puppy until you know it's gonna pull through."
In my opinion this is absolute bullshit though. You cannot tell me every single probie at the 118 has been treated this way for weeks (maybe months? I don't remember exactly). Also, keeping someone at a distance doesn't mean you have to treat them like literal dirt. It's also worth mentioning that once the captain, Tommy and his best friend leave the 118, no probie seems to ever be treated this way again. So if it's about the nature of the job, why wasn't it like this for everyone? So, despite what Eli said, I think Chim's treatment was definitely caused by racism.
Eventually, Chimney is finally allowed out on calls and risks his life to save Tommy's, which basically makes Tommy go: "Oh hey! Maybe I could treat this guy like a human being?" He thanks him for saving his life and from this point on they're friends. I don't know about you guys, but personally I think someone who doesn't see it fit to treat you like a person until you save their life doesn't seem like a very great guy.
Let's move on to Hen Begins. The 118 is still under the same captain, who is also a misogynist. Unlike the racism, this isn't only implied but confirmed.
I've seen people argue that Tommy can't be blamed for not standing up to his captain because that's his boss. And yet, when the captain says "This is our new diversity hire" about Hen, Chimney says, "You know, Cap, there's another way to say that," which immediately proves that Tommy could stand up to him as well, and simply doesn't have the guts.
They treat Hen similarly to the way they treated Chim. Tommy, along with everyone else but Chim, for example throws some gear on the ground before Hen's feet so she takes care of it, not saying so much as a single word to her in the process.
Chim tries to make conversation with Hen and says "I would've bet money that you were from the east coast, you just kinda have that vibe." Hen laughs and says "Thank you for the compliment?" to which Tommy replies: "New York bitchiness is a compliment?"
He doesn't even know Hen and she's done nothing that could be seen as 'bitchy.' Just some good ol' fashioned misogyny. Chim also recognizes that comment for what it is immediately because he goes "woah, woah, nobody said anything like that, come on." Tommy only huffs in annoyance as a response.
The captain then goes on a rant about how training female firefighters is a waste of money and Chim once again stands up for Hen, unlike everybody else, including Tommy, who just lets the misogyny stand.
It isn't until Hen rescues someone on a call that Tommy and his friend admit they wouldn't have found in time, that they finally treat her like a person. You'd think they'd have learned from Chimney that maybe people shouldn't need to prove themselves to you in order for you to treat them like a human being, but apparently not.
Ultimately, the team submits complaints against the captain and supports Hen but if you ask me, this should've happened a lot sooner and not only after they deemed her worthy.
And that's pretty much all we see of Tommy, except for some short scenes in Bobby Begins Again in which he just interacts with his team until he leaves for a different station at the end of the episode. There's no redemption, no proper apology and, if you ask me, considering the fact that he treated Hen the same as Chim, there's also no development.
And yet there are people who will defend this man with their lives as if 90% of his screentime wasn't him being a bigot or at best a coward without the guts to stand up to his bigoted captain.
So yes, personally I think liking Tommy Kinard is weird.

Rejection
“Hey Eddie, who’s that?” Buck asks, pointing a finger. He watches Chimney and Hen laugh with a woman Buck has never seen before. Eddie looks up with an eyebrow raised, looking at the direction that Buck is pointing. “Oh, that’s Y/n. She came in yesterday when you were off shift. She’s doing an externship with Hen and Chim before her paramedic exam, I think.” Buck’s eyes have yet to leave Y/n and Eddie notices. Eddie lets out a breathy laugh. “You’re going to burn holes in that girl if you keep staring, Buckley.” When he doesn’t stop, Eddie bumps Buck's shoulder. “She’s beautiful.” Buck gets up to talk to her but groans when the bell begins to ring. Eddie gets up finishing his last bite of food. He taps Buck’s back. “At least you get to see her in action soon.” Eddie rushes off to get his gear on. Buck watches for a minute as Y/n grabs things for the ambulance and then hops in. “Come on Buck!” Cap yells out putting Buck back in reality. He rushes to get ready.
The scene was cold and bloody with a few missing fingers in between. A few ice skaters had a collision after one of the skaters lost balance. Y/n felt like she was on cloud nine because of how much praise she was receiving from both Hen and Chimney. She had just finished wrapping the second to last person when she saw a guy slipping across the ice. Y/n giggles slightly as he struggles to catch himself. “Hey Hen, Chim? Who’s that?” She asks still looking at the handsome man as he finally stands up straight. They both look up to see who she’s looking at. “That’s Evan Buckley. But everyone calls him Buck.” Hen answers first. Chim looks at the way Y/n is looking at Buck. He bumps Hen’s shoulder as she fixes up the last person for transport. Hen looks up seeing where Y/n’s eyes are. “Oh no. Don’t tell me,” Y/n looks over, worried that something happened with the patient when there’s nothing she’s confused. “We know that look. That’s all.” Y/n is even more confused by Chim’s statement. “You’re making googly eyes kid.” Y/n shakes her head. “I am not! But a separate question, not that I care at all, is he single?” Chim and Hen laugh at her statement as they walk with the gurney, taking their last patient to the ambulance. When they get them settled and have the doors closed, they turn to Y/n. “Y/n we’re going to warn you for both you and Buck. Buck is or was a bit of a player. He’s tried the long-term thing and to put it simply it hasn’t worked out. I know your externship is only for a few months and you’re going to go off to who knows where. I just don’t want either of you getting hurt.” Y/n nods her head in thought, the other two walk forward. Behind her, Buck runs up to her. “Hey.” Y/n looks to her side and notices the handsome firefighter. She smiles slightly and nods her head. “Y/n right? Nice to meet you, I’m Buck.” Buck puts his hand out for her to shake. She accepts his handshake. “Nice to meet you, too, Buck.” Buck grins at the mention of his name, he loves it way it sounds. “Planning to be a paramedic, huh? From what I’m seeing you’re a natural.” Y/n smiles and nods. “Well if you ever wanna talk about the job over coffee…” Buck pauses looking at Y/n for a response. “Maybe some other time,” She smiles and makes her way onto the van with Hen. “Catch you later.” She says with a wave. Buck frowns disappointed, he grins when he remembers she said some other time.
It had been a month and a half since Y/n started her internship and a few minutes since Buck last flirted with her. Ever since the warning from Hen and Chim, Y/n did her best to ignore Buck’s constant flirting and to try to push down the feelings that she had for him. Everyone found her rejection funny even Cap. There was even a drinking game that the others, each person taking a shot every time Y/n rejected Buck  (besides Cap who played with shots of water). The game was usually cut short because it would happen 5 times in a minute. Y/n couldn’t help but admire Buck’s commitment. Buck grew to like Y/n for more than just her looks over the past weeks. It was her determination to do the job, her kindness to everyone around her, and the empathy she showed, she even had Chris wrapped around her finger, even if Y/n was for sure to say it was the other way around. He watched her and Chris currently at the cookout that Cap was holding. Y/n’s face lit up as soon as he came over to her. Buck had no idea what they were talking about but it had Chris laughing. “She’s really good with him,” Eddie said walking up to Buck. “Yeah she is,” He said without his eyes leaving her form. Suddenly Chris gives his best subtle thumbs up to Buck and Buck returns it. And Y/n definitely misses the exchange but Eddie doesn’t. “Please don’t tell me you’re using my kid for your flirting.” Buck smiles as Eddie groans. “I am not using your kid for my flirting.” Eddie shakes his head.
“What do you think about my Uncle Buck?” Chris asks randomly. Y/n laughs and pulls the boy closer tickling his sides. “Are you scheming for your Uncle Buck?” Chris laughs. “Maybe.” Y/n tickles a bit more. “Okay! Okay! He bribed me to ask. He said he’d give me 10 bucks!” Y/n releases him with a smile. “You’re supposed to be on my side Chrissy.” Chris looks serious for a moment. “You should go on a date Y/n/n. He’s really nice! And he saves people like you! You have a lot in common!” She gives Chris a small smile. “We’ll see Chris,” Y/n says. Chris gets up quickly and makes his way over to Buck. “Buck! Buck!” Buck picks Chris up by his legs. “What’s up, buddy? Did you complete your mission?” Buck says with a smile. Chris nods his head. “She said ‘We’ll see.” Buck turns his head towards Y/n for confirmation. “We need to talk first,” Y/n says to Buck. “Outside?” Y/n nods her head as he puts Chris down. “Wanna take a walk around the block?” Buck asks and Y/n confirms as Buck grabs his jacket.
The sun was slowly starting to set when they got outside. There were a few minutes of silence. “So…” They both say at the same time. They laugh. “You go first.” Buck motions. “When I first got here Hen and Chimeny told me something about you.” Buck raises an eyebrow. “What did they tell you?” Y/n looks up at the sky. “Don’t tell them I told you, but they said that you hadn’t had anything serious for a long time and you’re a bit of a player.” Buck wipes a hand over his face groaning. “I’m not really a short-term girl and I didn’t want to try anything if I was going to go to a further station. I wanted to wait to ask you what you were looking for after I got the confirmed assignment.” Buck pauses looking at her. “I guess you got your assignment back?” Y/n nods with a smile, “Cap informed me today that I will be staying with 118. Don’t tell Hen I told you first. I was supposed to tell her.” Buck grins congratulating her. “Thank you, but that means that it’s time for my question. What are you looking for here? I don’t want to be just one of your conquests or something. I like you and I don’t want to get hurt-” Buck cuts her off, “You like me?” Y/n nods sheepishly. “I like you too. And I don’t want something short with you Y/n. The player thing was from a while ago and even then since I met you, I haven’t been with another woman. I can’t even if I wanted to, you’re all that’s on my mind Y/n. I wouldn’t embarrassingly get rejected all the time if I didn’t want something with you.” Buck stands right in front of Y/n now. They’re close, only breathe apart. “You wanna try?” Buck nods, “I wanna try.” Y/n then breaks the gap between them and pushes her lips against his. They fit perfectly against each other. It is slow and sweet like no kiss either has ever had before. They release. “Remind me to give Chris $1,000.” Y/n laughs. “Me too.”

"why are you limping?"
This kinda turned into "2 times Buck's limping because sex with Eddie was too good and 1 time he wishes it was the reason"
"Why are you limping?"
Damn it, Buck thinks, closing his eyes at Bobby's question and begging the heat not to crawl too high up his face. He thought he might have been able to hide it, but clearly the hitch in his step is much too obvious to miss.
Buck is just glad he's early and no one else from A shift is at the station yet, because he would have never heard the end of it.
Definitely would not have been able to fool them all.
"Nothing," he says, washing his hands to join Bobby in making lunch at the counter. They've learned that it's better to cook earlier when they have time and reheat the food later than waste time doing it when they might only have minutes to sit down for lunch.
Bobby gives him a skeptical look. "Are you sure? If you hurt yourself on your last shift, you have to tell me."
"Yeah, cap, I'm sure," Buck says, wracking his brain for an explanation. "I think I have a cramp or something, it'll pass."
"Alright, if you say so. Hand me the knife."
Bobby seems happy to let it go, and Buck thanks whatever higher power is out there as he does what he's told.
He does not want to tell his Captain that his boyfriend fucked him so good last night he can barely walk—no thank you, he'd rather die.
Walking from stand to stand at the food market is more fun than Buck remembers being, although it might be because the sun is out without it being so hot that he's gonna get sunburned.
And walking isn't the most comfortable thing to do today, but it's worth going through if it means watching Jee-Yun tug on her dad's hand to get to the strawberries quicker—she's been on a strawberry kick lately, or so her parents have said.
Speaking of which, Maddie waits for Jee and Chim to be further along before stopping him with a hand on his wrist and frowning at him.
"Okay, why are you limping?"
Oh, god, no, not again. It was one thing for Bobby to ask last time, in a professional environment where Buck could guess he wouldn't push.
It's another thing for his sister to notice, because she does like to push when she's concerned, and Buck is also never able to lie to her.
"Well, uh," he says, balancing from one foot to the other. He regrets it immediately, hissing as pain flairs up his ass. The worst aprt is, he likes it. He's going to hell. "It's nothing, I think I, uh—twisted my ankle."
"Your ankle, Buck? Seriously?" she deadpans. "If you'd twisted your ankle, you'd have texted me about it to complaining about how stupid it is."
"No, I wouldn't, because I wouldn't want you fussing."
"But you're admitting that's not what it is?"
Shit. Her cocked eyebrow is incredibly annoying.
He huffs, feels his neck grow uncomfortably hot. "Come on, Maddie, can't you just let it go—"
"Evan," she gasps silently, her eyes going wide with the laughter she lets out a second later. Buck freezes. "I should have figured, the last time I was limping like this was when Chimn and I stayed at this hotel and—"
"Ew, Maddie, gross," Buck says, swatting her hand away.
He likes to hear her laugh, always, but she's being a complete menace right now, which isn't fair. He thought that was his job.
"Fine, fine, but you didn't deny it," she says, grinning up at him.
He rolls his eyes, but he once again finds himself victim to his inability to lie to her. "Yeah, well, maybe you're right, okay? But can we stop talking about it, please?" he begs through gritted teeth.
He's not mad, or annoyed, but honestly? Kind of embarrassed.
But Maddie just lights up even more. "Why, you deserve some good things! I should send a gift basket to whoever treated you so well."
It's his time to grin at her. "Well, you know Eddie's address."
He pats her shoulder, watches in real time as her brain short-circuits with that information, and then walks away to join his niece.
"Wait, Eddie?"
The door to his apartment opens and Buck definitely doesn't startle, because he was expecting it.
He just kind of, maybe, forgot that Eddie was coming over this early, and so he jumps where he's sitting on the couch, causing what feels like every muscle in his body to lock up.
"Hey, babe," Eddie says with a blinding smile when he finally comes into view in the kitchen, where he's laying out the take out food he promised he'd come with.
"Hey," Buck says, hissing as he gets up. The pain in his lower back and tail-bone is just as bad as it was thirty minutes ago, shooting up his spine with every step.
He must not be able to hide it, or maybe he's not imagining the faces he's pulling, because Eddie is at his side in a second, concern swimming in his eyes and painting his hovering hands.
"Buck, you okay? Why are you limping?"
Buck can't help the laugh that bubbles out of him, although it's cut short when he takes a last step towards Eddie to kiss his lips with a small peck.
"What's so funny?" Eddie asks, looking at him like he's crazy—he probably is.
"Nothing, it's just that usually when people ask me that it's because you've pounded me into the mattress like you were hoping I wouldn't be able to walk," he says.
He's rewarded with Eddie's rosy cheeks, the ones that only appear when Buck is being overtly flirty or raunchy with his words. He doesn't hdie anymore the way he did at the beginning, but his cheeks? They still flush, and it's always the most enjoyable sight.
And then Eddie frowns, checking Buck over.
"Wait, I know I didn't pound you into anything last night, so unless you got a little crazy with toys, what happened?"
With a grown, Buck lets himself fall into his boyfriend, hiding his face in his neck. "Fell down the stairs," he mumbles, hoping to distract Eddie with a press of his lips.
It doesn't work. Instead, Eddie lets out a soft, sudden laugh, but his hands on his lower back are soothing, like he knows exactly where it hurts. "And how did you manage that?"
"I don't know, I was going a little fast, I guess."
"So you were running. Down the stairs, like a child?"
"Leave me alone, I'm in pain."
"Enough to go to the hospital?"
"No," Buck says quickly, wrapping his arms around Eddie.
Eddie hums. "Well then, I get to scold you for being an idiot."
Every one of Eddie's words is lace with the kind of fondness reserved for him and Christopher, something soft and caring, that says, I'm here for you.
"But I'm your idiot," Buck says.
Eddie sighs, and kisses the crown of his head in the same breath. "Of course you are."

The weekend had gone by fast. It was Friday when your car took a shit, and it was now Sunday. Jungkook had spent most of yesterday morning looking over your car, along with your dad and they both confirmed you needed a new transmission. You couldn't do much about anything on the weekend so you spent it mostly in your room, wishing your sorrows away.
But now you have an even bigger problem, you have to face. What the hell are you gonna do as far as work? Your car is more than likely not getting fixed anytime soon.
Transmissions aren't cheap, and even then, depending on the cost, it might just make more sense to get yourself a new car, with how old yours is. Neither of which you can afford right at the current moment, but if you save up more money this next month, you could at least start to think about it.
It was all too much. You didn't want to handle this, but you had to.
Pulling yourself out of bed, and decided it would be good to actually eat a full meal, you bring yourself to the kitchen, where everyone sits. Including him.
"Y/N! Good morning my sweet girl! Just in time for breakfast... how'd you sleep?" You gave your mom a side hug as she kissed your forehead.
"Eh, it was fine." You really weren't in the mood to converse. You sat yourself down across from Jungkook. Unfortunately (maybe not so) that was the only seat available at the table.
"Morning Y/N." Jimin said as he sipped his coffee.
"Good morning Chim," you looked at him and smiled. You looked at Jungkook and dropped the smile. "Morning to you too."
You probably should be treating him better. He did help you with your car, as well as spent his morning yesterday looking at it. And he hasn't asked for a single form of payment. And honestly, weren't you glad to see him again?
"Morning to you too, sweet cheeks." He flashed you a 'two can play this game' sort of smile.
You rolled your eyes and just in time, mom saved the day by placing a large plate of pancakes down. "Eat up! I made lots!"
Just as you went to reach for a plate to grab some food, he did the same. Your fingers touched and you were sure this was what it felt like to be electrocuted. It felt good? To feel his touch? No. Y/N, no. You're supposed to be upset at him.
You backed your hand away so quick, you would think it was a snake trying to bite you. "Sorry." You mumbled.
He just chuckled, grabbing a plate he asked, "How many pancakes do you want?" Huh? This man is not about to serve you food. In your own home, nonetheless.
"I can get my own." You stood your ground.
He chuckled again, but this time a little more dark. "I said, how many do you want?" His eyes were piercing you.
"And I said, I can get my own." You gave him the same smile he gave you this morning when he greeted you.
His eyes still staring into your soul, he spoke, "Y/N, you don't listen very well," he turned to Jimin, thank God. You couldn't take his eyes looking at you like that. "Chim, how many does she usually eat?"
Jimin looked at you and you flashed your eyes so fast to him to give him that look.
"She eats two, usually." This bitch ain't loyal.
Jungkook turned back to you and smiled. His way of saying 'Haha bitch, so you thought'. He put three pancakes on the plate and sat it down in front of you.
"I only eat two..." you mumbled.
"And I've noticed you haven't ate much this lately. So eat up." Wait, he actually noticed you this weekend? Yes, anyone in this house could know you mostly stayed in your room, but he noticed you were eating less? Which is true. When you're anxious you eat less. No one usually notices though.
How were you supposed to be mad at that? A silent 'thank you' left your mouth with a small smile.
The rest of breakfast went on like it normally does. Except for one more voice added to the conversation.
"So uh, I need to figure out that to do about getting to work. For the next little bit anyways." You really didn't want to bring this up, but you had to. Tomorrow was Monday, you had no other choice.
"Hun, we can get you a rental car. It's the least we can do." Your dad said. He truly was such a great dad.
"Dad, that's expensive. I don't want you wasting your money." You sighed. It was true. Although your parents were definitely well off, and could honestly just buy you a new car, you valued spending your own money. As much as you know your parents would help you out in a heartbeat, you were twenty three. You needed to do this on your own.
Before your dad could even counter back an argument, Jungkook spoke up.
"I can take you to work."
Oh no, I think the fuck not.
"Kook, I work 40 minutes from here. Not happening." Suddenly the argument with your dad, seemed like a better one to have.
"Y/N, I work around that area anyways, I can drop you off, and pick you up. It's not a big deal. Seriously." This big doe eyes were hard to resist. In every way.
"Look, you guys, I don't want to be a burden. Now please, can we talk about this seriously?" You were on the verge of tears at this point.
"You are not a burden Y/N, I promise you, it would do no harm for me to take you to work. Now c'mon." He looked at your even sterner.
"Kookie's right, sis. He does work near you. And your hours work perfectly. Just let him help." It was hard enough taking Jungkook's eyes piercing you, but your brothers too? You had a soft spot for Chim. He knew it, and he used it to his advantage for a lot of things.
Rubbing your face and wishing it would melt away, you sighed. "Fine! But only for this week. I just... need time to figure things out." You didn't even want to look him in the eyes.
"For as long as you need, I'm here."
Sure you are Jungkook. Sure you are.

They’re in the back seat of the engine on the way back from a call. Buck has been glued to his phone the whole drive, blushing and smiling like a teenager with a crush.
Buck laughs out loud at something Tommy says and Chimney has finally had enough. “Come on, Buck, if I knew I was gonna have to deal with watching this all day I never would’ve saved Tommy’s life when I first started here. Put the phone down, man.”
Hen tuts at him. “Come on, Chim, let the boy enjoy his queer puberty. It’s actually kind of sweet.”
“You saved Tommy’s life?” Buck asks, his eyes wide and concerned. He’s still texting without looking at his phone.
Chim sighs. “Yeah, he never told you about that?”
Buck shakes his head. “No, he uh. He doesn’t like to talk about his time at the 118. Says he still feels bad about the way he acted back then.”
“Well he’s not wrong about that. We forgave him a long time ago but he’s come a long, long way from the Tommy Kinard we knew back then.” Chim says. Buck looks at him expectantly so he keeps going. “But yeah, a few months into the job I was finally allowed to go out on calls. There was one fairly early on that had all the signs of a gas leak but Captain Gerrard refused to believe it. Tommy was passed out inside so I ran into the store and carried him out just as the building exploded. That’s when he decided to be nicer to me. Not nice, but nicer.”
“Oh,” Buck says. And then he flares his nostrils and turns back to his phone, fingers flying furiously.
“Are you- are you berating him for having his life saved?” Hen laughs.
“No,” Buck says, annoyed. “I’m berating him because I’ve told him about every time I’ve almost died and he never once mentioned that my brother-in-law saved his life. Seems like a pretty big thing to leave out!”
Eddie laughs at that. “Maybe he didn’t want to compare his trauma to yours. Maybe he wanted you to have your space to talk about it without changing the subject to himself. Seems pretty mature, actually.”
Buck thinks about that for a second and then starts backspacing. “That’s actually really nice of him.” A wide puppy love smile washes over his face. “Fuck, he’s so good to me.” He starts typing faster again.
Chim groans. This is gonna be a long drive.
It is, but then it ends. They get back to the firehouse and start removing their turnouts. Buck corners Chimney before he can rejoin the group.
“Hey, uh. I-I should’ve said this earlier but, um. Thank you. For saving Tommy.” Buck wraps himself around Chim in a goofy but sincere hug.
Chim lets out an oof but hugs him back. “Of course. We are in the life saving business, after all.”
“I know,” Buck says, his voice thick. He squeezes Chim just a little harder. “I’ve just- I’ve never been this happy before. I’ve never felt so comfortable in my own skin. It’s not all Tommy, but he’s a big part of it. I think that navigating my bisexuality would’ve been a lot harder without him. If I’d ever even managed to figure it out without him kissing some sense into me, I mean. To think that I could have never had this, that he could’ve died and been such a minor footnote in your life is just…” Buck shudders against him. “So thank you. Thank you for giving me this.”
Chim is unexpectedly moved. Buck frustrates him, sure, but he loves him like a brother. “I’m glad you’re happy, Buck. I’m glad I could play some small role in that. You know I feel the same way about Maddie, right?”
“Ew, don’t talk about my sister,” Buck jokes, but his voice is still thick. It sounds like he’s trying not to cry.
Chim laughs. “I think it’s only fair.”
“Yeah, alright,” Buck chuckles. He finally lets Chim out of their hug but he keeps a hand on his shoulder and looks him in the eye. “Seriously, though. Thank you. I couldn’t ask for a better brother-in-law.”
“Neither could I, man.” Chim points his thumb upstairs. “Lunch?”
Buck nods. They walk up the stairs and join the rest of their work family, grateful that the 118 has become a place they can call home.

Do you think Tommy is here to stay for a while? How do you think is going to evolve his relationship with Buck? Will we get another kiss next episode?
I would love for him to stay forever!! Love him!!
Hey, Anon! Thanks for stopping by! I love talking about anything related to bucktommy, so you've basically made my day with your ask!
This turned into a long ass post, so I'm putting the rest under the cut.
Yes, I really do think Tommy is here to stay for a while because, honestly, he's the perfect LI to become Buck's endgame.
And I know that that thought is the biggest issue with certain stans right now, but like, he can easily have little storylines weaved throughout the series with the main and guest stars. And, if you actually read the interviews that the actors and Tim are doing, it's clear that's the goal. In fact, I was actually going to make a post for that idea, but I'll just add it here:
Hen, Chim, Bobby
Tommy clearly has a connection to Hen, Chim, and Bobby from his days at the 118. We've seen it in S2, so it's a canon fact. Chim saved his life, so that's a strong fucking bond right there. Not to mention they clearly enjoy quoting movies and probably discussing the plot of movies together. (Thank you, Bobby begins for the bar scene) Tommy was there when Kevin died, too, so he understands the loss that Chim has experienced through the job. And let's not forget that he had the opportunity to watch Chim become an amazing paramedic.
When it comes to Hen, he helped get rid of Captian Gerrard when Hen was being put through hell. (And yes, I do believe he said something to the higher ups. He is a military guy, and following the chain of command is very important to them, so I'm not surprised he never voiced his opinions outloud. Add that with the idea that he was very deep in the closet, he was probably terrified of that man.) And he knows that when it comes to Hen, she will never give up to do what's right and I like to think Tommy took a page from her book and applied that to his life on his journey to accept himself.
Then Bobby. Probably the first man in a leadership position that treated him with kindness and respect. When Bobby comes to the 118, there's some resistance, mostly from Sal, but even through all that, Tommy sees that Bobby is fair (transferring Sal to another station instead of fully firing him) and welcoming (by incorporating family dinners).
Athena
I was struggling with how he'd be connected to Athena, but then I remembered: trivia night!
Athena and Bobby used to have game night with Michael and David. Can you IMAGINE Bobby and Athena inviting Buck and Tommy over for dinner and game night??? I can. And I am so here for it!
Teams would absolutely be: Bobby and Buck. Athena and Tommy.
And let's face it. Athena sees Buck as Bobby's un-adopted son, so if Tommy makes Buck happy, Athena is good.
Karen
This one is interesting and maybe a tiny bit of a stretch, but I really believe that Tommy and Karen could connect through their interest for aviation/aerospace. She's a rocket scientist for crying out loud. He'd be like a little kid at the place where she works.
I also like to think that maybe, due to his childhood and being constantly between homes, he can help discuss the trauma that Mara might feel.
Maddie
I mean, the most important thing to her is that Tommy obviously makes her little brother happy and giddy. She wants to meet him, which is something I can't recall Buck or Maddie ever saying before about one of Buck's LI. Maybe Abby, but Buck was living in her apartment soooo... yeah.
I know Lou has revealed the backstory he has set up in his mind for Tommy and after saying his father was an alcoholic, I can't stop thinking that maybe little Tommy unfortunately experienced abuse from his father or witnessed it happening to his mom. Tommy, having a childhood connected to domestic violence, while not in the exact same way that Maddie experienced it, gives them something in common on a deeper level. An understanding of how important it is to accept love and open yourself up to the possibility.
Eddie
Eddie's friendship with Tommy is actually so interesting to me too because I have this crazy "invisible string" theory that includes him.(Platonically) But, moving on...
Clearly, they share a love of the same things. Muay Thai, watching fights, cars, Buck, basketball, the military.
For me, the military is their real connection because of Eddie's breakdown. No one else in Eddie's life can really understand what he's gone through and how it feels to maybe be the only one of your unit to survive. I'm pretty sure Tommy has already gone through therapy, and since Eddie had no one to reach out to with shared trauma like Frank suggested, he found that second chance in Tommy.
Buck
I mean... they connected lips and soon hearts. 🥺 Sooo....
Next question...
I really hope their relationship evolves in the cutest, sweetest, sometimes naughty, way!
I want to see nervousness. I want to see them learning things about each other. I want them to cuddle and laugh and go on double dates.
I want them to worry about the other one during a dangerous call or rush to each other at a moments notice.
I want to see them fall so in love with each other that I can sue ABC for giving me cavities from all the sweetness.
Having said that... I also want to see disagreements. Arguments and vulnerability and then the process of apologizing and making up.
So, basically, I want them to evolve into a healthy, stable, loving relationship.
And hell yeah! There will be a kiss on Thursday. I'd like to believe we'll see more than one just because of Oliver's interview, but for sure, we're getting one initiated by Buck and honestly I cannot fucking wait!!!!
I want him to stay forever, too. You're not alone 🩵

Tease Tidbit Tuesday
Tagged by @diazsdimples @tizniz @wikiangela @giddyupbuck @hippolotamus @jesuisici33 @disasterbuckdiaz. Thank you all for tagging me ❤️ (be sure to check out all their snippets!)
Here’s a little something from a phone call between Buck and Bobby on the night of Eddie’s breakdown from when your heart releases, you won’t fall to pieces.
Prev snippet here.
Bobby hums in thought. “Are you with him right now?”
“Yeah. Yeah I didn’t want to leave him alone. Not like this.”
“Eddie needs the kind of help that we can’t provide, but what we can do, what you’re already doing a great job of so far, is be there for him and for Chris.”
“I was so scared, Bobby. I- I thought he- that he’d—.”
“It’s okay, Buck. He’s okay. He’s going to be okay.” Bobby says, his voice soft and soothing and Buck finds that he actually believes him. “Do you need me to come over?”
Buck chokes back a sob of relief. He knew Bobby was the right person to call. Eddie and Chris are a part of his family too. Buck doesn’t have to shoulder this alone. Knows that if he said yes, Bobby would break a few traffic laws to get here. Or get a police escort from Athena.
“No- no I’m alright, just uh- it’s been a long night.” Even though he could use the comfort, he feels like tonight needs to be just him and the Diaz’s. Doesn’t want to bring too many cooks into the kitchen or whatever. “Could you uh- could you come over in the morning though? I need to get Chris to school and I don’t want to leave Eddie alone. Not that I think he’s going to-to do anything I just—.”
“Don’t want him to feel like he’s alone in this. I get it, Buck. Trust me, I get it.”
“Yeah.” Buck supposes Bobby really does get it. He still remembers finding Bobby passed out drunk on his bed, back before he’d opened up his heart to life again, to actually living and being a part of it. Remembers how he and Hen (and Chim later on when Bobby trusted enough to let another person into his world) would take turns sitting with Bobby at his apartment on his bad days or driving him to AA meetings so he knew he wasn’t alone in the battle, they had his back. So yeah, if anyone gets it, it’s Bobby. “Thanks Bobby.”
“Anytime kid.”

22. Falling asleep on the other ones shoulder and 45. Feeling their temperature
Buck deteriorated fast. As their shift stretched longer and longer into the endless calls that barely gave them time to eat, let alone rest, Buck’s overcompensated perkiness grew thinner and thinner. His over bright smiles dimmed. His jumps into action resembled more and more like scraping himself off the floor. The color in his cheeks disappeared into a grey in his complexion that mingled with the soft flush that went all the way up to his hairline. Eddie was pretty sure whatever fever reducer he’d taken was probably long gone from his system, giving by the shine in Buck’s eyes. The same fever reducer he didn’t think they all knew he’d taken before his shift. And none of it was helped by the traffic. No one in the fire truck said anything. Silence had been their only form of survival when their banter had started to turn sharp and their stomachs grumbled. Hangry wasn’t there yet but it would be if they didn’t get a move on. It was kind of ironic that for the first time in their shift that they weren’t running from back to back calls, it was when they were stuck in a traffic jam. Most drivers were silently fuming, inching their cars up before their breaks squealed as they stopped. No one had started blowing their horns but it was only a matter of time before the very thin patience LA commuters had, broke. The soft weight next to him was steadily getting heavier and heavier with each passing minute until soft curls loosened by sweat and wearing his helmet, tickled Eddie’s nose. Buck seatbelt harness kept most of him upright but his head had found a spot on Eddie’s shoulder in the slow drift into sleep. Eddie’s skin lit up in a sea of goosebumps at Buck’s soft exhale, the heat of his breath fanning Eddie’s collarbone. Buck had taken his headset off twenty minutes earlier with a barely audible complaint of a headache and no one had told him otherwise. Buck’s hand slipped in between Eddie’s legs, slack and limp, and Eddie was careful to scoop it up so he could hold his hand across his thigh. Hen and Chim stared back at them with Bobby peering over his shoulder from the captain’s seat with a frown pulling at the corner of his lips. “Asleep?” He asked and Eddie nodded at the even low rhythm Buck’s chest was rising and falling as he slept. “How’s his fever?” Hen asked. Eddie reached up to curl his palm over Buck’s cheek, shifting his fingers to press in the soft skin under his jaw. Buck didn’t even stir. “Not great,” Eddie tried to say quietly. “But not in the danger zone yet.” He didn’t mention the fact that Buck’s fingers were cold. Bobby’s eyes were already fixed with concern. “When’s the last time he hydrated?” Hen again with her own worry pulling her lips into a frown. “I had him drink a Gatorade at that call at the gas station which was about,” Chimney trailed off to check his watch. “Two hours ago.” “Alright,” Bobby said with a nod as Eddie skirted around the rules a little and pressed a kiss against the crown of Buck’s head. “Let’s try and get back to the station before another call comes in and get him some more fluids. After that I’ll call in for a swing.” “Buck’s going to hate that,” Chimney said but Eddie could see Bobby’s decision was already made. He had to agree with him. But for now they were stuck and Buck was comfortable. Eddie draped his own arm across Buck’s thigh and held him as much as he could while they waited.

Inspirational Saturday
hi everyone, I was barely active cause mental health is a bitch and I wasn't writing for days, but today i finally broke this block and started a new wip I named "please, stop twisting knife(never wanted to cause your pain)" where Eddie is going to be engaged to a wrong guy for a moment and date this guy for longer moment, not seeing how he destroys his and Buck's friendship (Buck's insecurities and Eddie the king of denial Diaz are gonna be in the fic for long time) I was tagged today by @monsterrae1 <33 meet the moodboard and 966 words of angst I wrote cause I wasn't posted for a moment
Tumblr media
“I still don't know how I can help choose the ring for the guy I met like …,” Buck tries to remember all the situations he was with Alec at least in one room,  “3 times? And let's not forget he is not my biggest fan,” Buck says, trying to sound casual. But everyone in the shop, except Eddie, looks strange at him. “Don’t you think Chris, Pepa, Hen, Karen, Chim or Maddie, Bobby or Athena, hell even Ravi, could be a better choice? They at least know him.”
“And he would not be angry with you for spending time with them. Them not me,” is left unspoken, but Buck has to bite his lip hard not to let it slip from him.
Buck turns away from Eddie, who looks so beautiful and joyful admiring rings. His face has this pure happiness and smile, Buck would be drinking like crazy, like the most thirsty man alive, seeing the purest water, if it wasn’t the face Eddie has because he wants to marry someone else. The guy who made them strangers. Even if Eddie keeps trying to deny it.
They are not family. They do not have movie nights or dinners, or even fucking calls and texts between them. Buck, thank god to Chris’ stubbornness, has it only with a boy. Mostly calls or texts, of course, because dinners or movies are barely even possible in between Buck’s shifts, Chris' school and social life. Plus to it Eddie and Alec’s attempt to create a family by constantly having family activities, and Buck left behind so easily.
He is just a memory now. And he always would remember who he was all those years. Temporarily replacement of a missing part for the third member of Diaz household, while Eddie was getting ready to find someone to be permanent. While he was getting ready to let someone take this place to never leave again.
Really, Buck is not even surprised he was so easily replaced. Just some words from Alec about him wanting Eddie to spend less time with Buck, Buck saying yes man, no problem, and now they are here. Him being not even a friend for Eddie. But just a guy who he still works with.
Eddie can deny it how he wants, but they are not friends anymore. They are closer to being strangers than friends.
Isn’t it the most painful of all of this situation?
Buck thought he had Eddie on his side forever, but he lost him too fast. He couldn’t even say a word because Eddie is happy. And why shouldn't he be?
He has an amazing partner and the best teenager in the world as a family. They are adopting the cat soon. Eddie and Alec want to buy a house together because they started to talk about a new kid in the future, and they just want more space for their family. Family where Buck would not have any place because he is not wanting here by big part. And he wouldn’t even try to make Alec angry trying to be here.
Just the thought that he knows all about Eddie’s plans for the future from someone, not from him, makes Buck sick, like someone twisting the knife into his guts, so he tries to concentrate on the rings the seller shows them.
At least about the engagement he found out from Eddie.
But Buck wishes to hear it from anyone else. Seeing Eddie’s face today, when the knocks on his door was too long and too exciting, almost screaming in Buck’s face how he needed to find the perfect ring right now and Buck should help him, destroyed part of his heart he considered dead for weeks, maybe even months, to never be recovered ever again.
He felt and still feels the sharp blade opening his back, cutting out his lungs to get to his heart, sticking and leaving the knife in his almost non-beating organ.
Buck can’t stop thinking, if he would be staying alive a little longer after lighting, would it feel the same, or would a heartbreak by the man who had your heart in his hands for years be way worse? Should Buck buy the suit for his funeral and not Eddie’s wedding?
“Yeah, I could ask them, but it would make no sense to buy the ring with them as they are not my best friend and not gonna be my best man,” Eddie grins at him sheepishly and Buck just forces the smile he perfected for years, making people believe he is fine.
He never used it with Eddie.
“Best friends, huh? What I was doing for the last nine months, Eddie? What books have I read? What movies have watched? Who is my celebrity crush of the week? A year ago you would answer easily. Now you don’t even know I’m moving to the house I bought some weeks ago.”
It rushes through his brain, making Buck hate himself for being petty and not staying truthful to his words to always have Eddie’s back, even though he knows for Eddie it means nothing now, but not for him.
For him it was a vow he takes with him to grave. So he presses his little overgrown nails so deep into the skin of his palm that he almost feels like cutting through the skin, and says, “I’m proud to be your best man. Let’s try to choose the perfect ring.”
Buck swallows blood in his mouth from all the organs being crushed and chopped into bloody soup inside him when Eddie just smiles like he can’t see - and Buck hates that he actually can’t, that Eddie never saw him - how he breaks him and shows Buck two rings he likes the most.

Hello! ✨ 🤗 🤗 Thank you for making the request. I loved it. I cried and screamed with emotion 🥺 ✨ thank you, thank you, thank you so much. ✨
And well I had an idea 🙈 you could make an Evan Buckley petition with the song Skyfall by Adele.
Reader is an actress, an actress recognized by Hollywood. Who she is linked to different actors of the moment. Which makes Buck uncomfortable and nervous. Because he believes that their relationship could affect Reader's career. However, he is also afraid to see the harassment reader receives from the press and photographers. So one day, reader unhesitatingly takes him to an award ceremony for one of his films. They both pose for the cameras. Buck wraps her in his arms and doesn't let go of her hand at any moment. He only lets go when she receives the award and the camera points at them both.
And the next day they both learn that they received the name "Hollywood's most powerful couple".
Chim, Maddie and Eddie jokingly name Buck "Hollywood's boyfriend". (well it's just a thought) 🙈
😅 Again, thanks for agreeing to BTR's request. 🤭 🤗✨
skyfall - e.b
Tumblr media
summary: request
evan buckley x reader
gif from @catdadeddie
buck sat in his apartment, watching his girlfriend on the tv and the trailer for her new film. if she couldn’t be here with him, he may as well just watch her. it’s not the same, it never would be but it would have to do. he missed her in his arms and just naturally being next to him without a choreographed move or line.
y/n knew buck was at home doing all of this. he’s the only thing on her mind at red carpets. instead, she was miles away at a panel for her movie. she loved her job. she amount of opportunities and gateways to success put her on top. every movie has piled up and showcased her talent, and she loves it.
every job has its downfalls, though. the complete lack of privacy is overwhelming and you can never underestimate the scrutiny of the media. all sections of her life were on display at all times. she only wanted to do what she loved on the movie sets, not have every move dictated by the press.
so, she decided that she and buck would remain low profile. there was no lie that she was in a relationship. y/n didn’t need to hide that she loves someone, but she’s horrified of fucked up people getting involved in bucks life. buck has identical fears. if he and y/n came out with their relationship, people could ruin his life because they’re angry. y/n’s seen with a-list actors every day that people would kill to see a relationship. some of it isn’t just for himself, it’s for her. he first-hand views the harassment and cruelty she gets. he reads it on social media and in the news, reporting every last drop of it. it surfaces a new insecurity in buck, feeling less than the rest because he’s just a regular man.
y/n knows he’s more than that, so that’s enough for him. she honors him more than anyone and his personality and work ethic is admired. it doesn’t matter how much money he makes or what he wants to do with his life because y/n wants every last moment with him.
when the biggest award ceremony of y/n’s career comes up, she thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to bring buck into the light. she wants to brag about him being hers, and show off all of his riveting qualities. she knows there’s not a part of him that doesn’t deserve to be in the spotlight.
she pulled up the the firehouse one time in full disguise. she ripped it all off before running into bucks arms as he lifted her off the ground. he missed her beautiful face that was across the country. his coworkers watched in entertainment as he just beamed whenever he looked at her.
“i missed you so much,” y/n smiles.
“i know, i’m just happy you’re home now,” buck says, keeping his hands placed on her forearms. it’s like the entire world disappeared behind them. every person, every noise, every sense just vanished when looking into the others breathtaking eyes.
“i, uh, need to ask you something,” y/n starts, giving buck a small amount of anxiety, but he knows they can deal with whatever it is together.
“yeah,” he says quickly. “of course, come in here.”
he leads her into a private room and shuts the door. buck moves back over to grab her hand, entwining their fingers together and giving her the support to continue. “what’s going on, baby?”
“the oscars are coming up,” she spits out quickly, and buck doesn’t know if he should be relieved or not. “and i want you to come with me. i know you might think it’s a bad idea, but i’m sick of hiding from everyone and they have nothing against you and me.”
buck laughs softly, continuing to graze her hand with his fingers. she looks up at him with an expression of anticipation and maybe even a little timidity. when she sees the smile creep up on his face, she can’t tell whether it’s an excited one or a mocking one.
“you know i would never miss that for the world, right?” he tells her and she releases a breath, dropping her shoulders and the corners of her mouth pull up. “i don’t care if you’re nominated and win or lose, i’ll be there.”
the days went painfully slow for the rest of bucks team as floods of questions and concerns came their way. he was stalled on what he should wear, what time he should get there, should he get his hair done now or sooner to the date. everyone was ready to put in earplugs at his questions, but at the end of the day, they were more happy for him. they were excited to see him on their tv screens with his perfect match on his arm. they knew buck was made for y/n from the day he met her.
when buck was picked up in the pitch black limo with shaded windows, he felt like the most luxurious man in the world. he was bouncing his leg up and down in the seat, y/n having to put her hand on it to calm him down.
“alright, so,” he begins. “what do i do? do i just stand there or do i pose or-“
“buck!” y/n giggles. “relax, it’s all gonna be ok. you’ll know what to do, trust me. i’ll be there the whole time.”
“i’ve never been on a red carpet before,” he exhales, starting to see the crowd of people outside. “can i hold your hand in there?”
y/n looks at him with gentle eyes, putting out her hand and squeezing his. as she steps out of the car with the help of the guards, buck slips his hand out. when he gets out of the car, he adjusts the buttons on his tux and connects with y/n again.
the walk down the carpet was casual, but also had buck internally panicking. he had never been in a room with so many celebrities at one time. seeing all the hot actors and actresses of the moment was so overwhelming, and whenever they shook his hand he felt like floating. he almost cried when andrew garfield looked in his direction. he was completely mesmerized by the way y/n interacted gracefully with everyone. he knew he had the right girl.
the air became thicker in the venue until the best actress category was called up. each of the names swiped through the massive screens and the names started to echo off the walls. the two actors at the front had the envelope, ready to reveal the name of the winning actress. buck felt the shaking of y/n’s hand, trying to ease her worries of losing, or even winning. some part of him knew that she won even before they called her name.
when he hears the thrilling, “y/n y/l/n in f/n!” on the mics, he jumps out of his seat. he looks at his girl with his jaw to the floor, tears already forming in his eyes. she’s still processing that her name was even called, but just looking at buck brings her back down.
“oh my god,” she whispers once he pulls her in.
“you did it! you fucking did it!” he leans away, cradling her face and giving her a kiss before letting her go up. she almost wishes she could drag him up too, or stay down on the floor with him. “go get ‘em,” he winks.
y/n’s speech ran through her lips quickly, being unprepared as she told the world what she thought. “holy shit,” she breathlessly chuckles. “thank you to everyone who helped me get here today, my family, my parents, my coworkers on this movie. i’m so thankful i even get to be on this stage. the director, greta, you are absolute magic. this is one of the best projects i’ve ever been involved in and- oh my god, why is this timed? but anyway, also evan, i love you more than words and this is all for you!” she blew him a kiss before running of stage, picking up the layers of her dress to show off her new shiny award to him.
flashes of bucks face and y/n’s director came over the screen, making y/n and him the hot topic for the night. fans all over social media were buzzing with excitement, finally getting to see the man who painted the bliss onto y/n. news headlines and tweets were filled with, “y/n y/l/n and her new boyfriend - hollywoods new power couple?”
every time she saw one, y/n smiles brightly and sent it to buck who showed it off to his friends. now, when he sat around the table with y/n or just lay with her in bed, he knew she was more than just some girl. she was the one for him no matter what, and he didn’t need the internets approval to realize that. despite the few hateful people, buck chooses to ignore them completely. they’re not the one laying next to y/n right now.
he faces the teasing from his sister and his best friends about being the new hollywood boyfriend, but as long as he’s y/n’s, that’s all he needs.

A little something I came up with based on the theory Tommy is going to be pivotal in saving Chimney in the next episode:
****
After a long, chaotic day, it’s nice to stand still for a moment and enjoy the sight in front of him, of an old friend and a newer acquaintance dancing like there’s no one else in the room. He leans against the bar, savours the drink in his hand and people watches.
As Chimney twirls his glowing bride, he feels a familiar figure come to stand beside him. He doesn’t need to look over to know who it is.
“I can’t stop staring at you in your suit.”
Tommy can’t help the smile that spreads across his face in response.
“I know,” he replies easily, very aware of the hungry eyes that have been on him since Maddie and Chimney said I Do. “You’ve been staring all evening.”
“Can you blame me?”
His body heats up under the gaze now focused on him.
Tommy lets out a huff, “You’re not the only one who’s been staring.”
“I know.” Buck laughs softly, a little cocky.
Tommy likes it.
Buck shifts a little closer, both keeping their eyes on Maddie and Chimney in the centre of the dancefloor.
“You saved the whole wedding, that’s one way to win over my sister.”
“Eh,” he shrugs, “I owed Chim one.”
“Do you think about it at all?”
“Hmm?”
“Well, I only joined the 118 after you left and me joining is the reason Chimney and Maddie met? Strange huh, how things happen?”
“Like fate?” Tommy asks.
“Maybe, I just think we should listen to the universe when it speaks.”
Finally, Tommy twists his neck and meets Buck’s eyes. His eyes sparkle, reflecting the strung-up lights and his cheeks are a soft pink. It’s those lips that Tommy can’t help but stare at for a moment. He’s been addicted to those lips since he first kissed them.
“And what’s the universe saying now?”
Buck leans in, his lips almost touching Tommy’s ear as he murmurs, "That you deserve to be properly thanked for today…somewhere private?”
Tommy’s eyebrow arches at the suggestion. He’s proud of just how quickly Buck has grown since their first kiss, from looking awkwardly around a restaurant to openly flirting with him in a room full of his friends and family.
“Won’t people notice you’re gone?”
“Better be quick then” Buck slides his hand down Tommy’s arm and slots their hands together. Decision made, Tommy downs the rest of his drink and puts the empty glass back on the bar. If anyone notices them slipping out, Tommy is too focused on the man pulling him towards the cloakroom to care.
