people take pride in not reading the actual canon books or not following them, their "canon" is a bunch of popular fics (all of them with unrecognizable Remus and Sirius characterizations. ATYD even has a disclaimer about it in its summary!). I honestly don't understand how they're so proud of saying that they can't handle reading books aimed at 8-12 year olds, but I guess that explains why they're all so creatively bankrupt.

It’s baffling to be honest. If you solely base everything you know about HP on fanon and fanfic only, you are gonna end up with a completely different story!

I can understand teenaged Sirius and Remus (and Peter) having slightly different characteristics/being ooc in marauder era fics since they have yet to live through the shitstorm that is their early 20s and beyond and are just students. However the level that some people change their characters makes it almost impossible to line them up with the characters you see in the canon series, and from things labelled “canon compliment” or that have “slight divergence from canon but still relatively canon compliment” it can be quite off putting.

I am all for headcanons, i have quite a few myself, but to claim that someone’s headcanon/OC is part of the canon narrative is very annoying! *cough cough* Grant Chapman *cough cough* And then using that fanfic/headcanon/OC to justify and back up their arguments about stuff that happens in the canon storyline is just mind blowing!

I think the thing that personally annoys me most about atyd is the people who try to use this fic as gospel. That claim that this story is the actual canonical story of the marauders at Hogwarts. The people who get so pissed off if you say 1 negative word about it. (Well I have a lot of negative words about it and I’ll gladly share them 😅)

Besides the people who take pride in not reading the canon books are missing out on a LOT of lore and characterisation of some characters, but that’s their loss. Also kind of a stupid thing to take pride in but oh well, gold star for them I guess, you managed to avoid a children’s book series 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

No, thank you for this incredibly sweet message!! It makes me incredibly happy (I immediately showed this ask to my fiancé because it made me BEAM) to hear that!!! I joined the Marauders fandom when I was 12/13 - originally by lurking and then eventually by fanfic creation myself. Back in the day, Jily was such of a commonplace ship!! When I was 17ish? I started getting into art, and I created some very rough Marauders fanart because I was very immersed in the world & fandom. Unfortunately, during the big bad Corona, I started to fall out of love with the Marauders fandom due to all the controversies within it - and the rise of certain ships I personally disagreed with. I felt like I had to conform to the new look of Marauders content or cease creation. (This wasn't ACTUALLY the case, I just didn't have the headspace and growth mindset at the time to realize that inherently other creators or myself are doing nothing wrong by simply just doing what they love.) I've always wanted to create a blog specifically for the Marauders, but I felt as though I missed the "prime". I've since realized that is not true!! The Marauders are an incredibly fan-nurtured niche in the canon Harry Potter fandom! The fans keep it alive by breathing new life into it. So, I decided with this blog, I would create a space where I felt comfortable to share the part of the Marauders that *I* personally originally fell in love with. That's what I think is the beauty of this fandom- at its core - we all share these characters and nobody has the right to make anyone feel unwelcomed in it! Personally, one of the things I love about the Marauders is Jily! It's been a dream come true to see that there are such supportive and kind people in this fandom - like yourself - who support new creators even though the content may not be as popular as it once was. So, really from the bottom of my heart, thank *you* for taking the time to send this in my ask box! And thank you for bearing with my needlessly long post lol

Bad:

•Snape was a blood supremacist who called lily a slur.

•invented a curse for enemies (marauders)

I don’t think a good person would make up a curse which mutilates someone terribly. That too, during his time in Hogwarts.

•oh yeah later on he became a death eater 😋 (the main goal of the death eaters wasto eliminate all muggle-borns in the wizarding world and establish voldemort as its ruler)(magical nazis basically).

Plus when voldy was going to kill lily, Snape was like yk what you can kill the husband and the INFANT just don’t hurt my lily flower teehee like okay james bullied him so him not caring about james made sense but harry was a child bro

•BULLIED CHILDREN DURING HIS TIME AS A PROFESSOR????? he was literally neville’s bogart ffs and not because “some teachers are just scary okay Neville was afraid of almost everything!!!” but because Snape bullied neville on a daily basis plus threatened to kill his pet after a failed potion thingy. plus he made fun hermione’s physical appearance (when draco made her teeth all big and Snape was like hah it’s the same there’s no difference) and he bullied for BEING GOOD AT ACADEMICS LIKE 😭😭😭???? •turned into an illegal animagus at the age of 15 so his werewolf friend (Remus) has company during his transformations.

•took sirius black in after he ran away from an abusive hoursehold.

•SAVED FUCKING SNAPE FROM REMUS IN HIS WEREWOLF FORM AFTER SIRIUS SENT HIM THERE.

JAMES SAVED SNAPE.

•literally died trying to stall Voldemort so Lily and Harry have some time to escape or just live in general.

So my point is canon james was a bit of an asshole but he still did way more good deeds than Snape even though Snape was in all the seven books like one of the good things he did was literally the consequences of his own actions (healing draco).

All of this is canon btw. NONE of it is fanon.

i've seen your post in the anti atyd tag and i'm so happy to find a fellow marauders fan who doesn't like atyd! remus' PERSONALITY and backstory were so changed. how do marauders fans like fanfiction of remus as the main character where he is a completely different character? where is the love for the real, actual character if what makes him him was modified? real remus was a completely different character, and people seem to have forgotten him 😭

Honestly! 😂 I think one of the biggest things that annoys me about it is when people claim it’s a canon compliment fic… like no it’s not!

The only canon compliment things about it are the names of the characters, the places and the time frame… everything else is different! If it were canon compliment Remus would be living at home with his parents!

I genuinely get a small bit of anger when i see people treating it as canon. Sometimes I see people dishing out “fun facts” to others and then they follow it up with ‘(but that’s according to atyd’s which is pretty much canon)’ and i’m sat there like 😒… it’s like me going “Fun fact: Ron Weasley was secretly a vampire the whole time and killed Charlie when he was 6 and that’s why he never appears in the films (but that’s my canon)”

Also random side note: Its physically impossible for me to listen to the actual song since it just brings up bad memories of this fic existing, which sucks since the song is amazing!

Too many videos, adverts and search suggestions about rugby have been appearing on all of Regulus' platforms to be coincidence. It only took a brief mention of the sport in a conversation with Barty and Evan while they were at work for it to flood every digital space Regulus owns. The funny thing is that of all the players out there, the one who is most reluctant to leave his phone is the one called Potter, who is apparently an eminence in the sport. 

Regulus knows only the basics about rugby, preferring soccer to be honest, but over the last few days he has found himself in the spare time he has between flights, looking up more information and watching the games this James guy plays in. 

All of this makes him feel a little foolish for succumbing to the insistent advertising, but a couple of days later it proves extremely useful when he sees a silhouette Regulus has become quite familiar with boarding the plane, and it leaves him gaping in surprise. When James Potter greets the cabin crew, which almost no one does genuinely, Regulus chokes with his own saliva, earning amused looks from his two friends and leaving him blushing as he helps the Gryffindor flanker find his seat in first class. 

Despite the initial surprise, the flight goes off without a hitch, save for Barty making crude gestures at him from the back of the aisle every time it is Regulus' turn to attend to a particular passenger. A passenger who appears to be nervous, as Regulus has seen him catch rugby balls at several miles per hour, but seems to have lost all motor skills when he drops the blanket he is trying to hand him twice.

At the end of the flight, despite being at the front of the plane, James decides to be the last to get up to disembark, but not before giving Regulus his number.

Some time later, all of Regulus' platforms are flooded with James Potter again, but for slightly different reasons. And well, probably now somewhere in the world someone else is complaining because he's the one accompanying the player in almost every picture.
