eating clean(er)!
prefaces:
i know talking about food can be a sensitive subject, so i want to give some prefaces before we begin:
this is not about weight loss, this is about health. people can be thin but still have a diet that is not beneficial for their health. even tho i’m not overweight, im still striving to eat healtheir for the sake of my health and the health benefits of whole foods. 
 i know it can also be difficult to eat healthy (healthier foods are typically more expensive in the US) and a lot of people don’t have the time to put time into thinking about what they’re going to eat. you don’t need to eat completely farm fresh food, these are simply tips for bettering your current diet.
eating better:
read about nutrition. you can buy or check out books on it or read online, but read about the importance of eating good and what we need in our diets.
find fun recipes. the first step is finding recipes you can make at home. generally, eating at home is cheaper and also a lot healthier. and finding recipes that are fun and new makes eating healthy a lot better :)
make a list of fruits and vegtables you like and dont like- this will help you know what to buy and what to eat more of. this is a great starting point
add more fruits and vegtables to your meals. find new ways to incorporate them into your meals- snack of them- whatever. just strive to eat a fruit and vegtable with every meal.
add more whole foods into your diet. obviously this includes fruits and vegtables, but also things such as poultry, eggs, nuts and beans. fish is also really good for you. find ways to incorporate the nutrients you need.
start with healthier snacks. to put it simply, just swapping out highly unhealthy snacks (such as chips, sweets, etc.) with healthier alternatives (such as fruits) can make a big impact. not only will these healthier options satisfy your hunger better, but you’ll also be provided with the proper energy your body needs.
balance it out! dessert is fun to- so are sweets and milkshakes and ice cream and all of that. eating healthy doesn’t mean getting rid of those foods, it means eating healthy most of the time but letting yourself enjoy a variety of foods.
how to start:
do your own research. the internet is full of misinformation and fear mongering, so before you even begin take time to research things like the effects of canned foods and other ultra-processed ones. you don’t have to be an expert in nutrition, but building a better knowledge of healthy eating and WHY it’s important is crucial to start.
find healthier alternatives. for example, i love fruit snacks and gummies, so not only do i eat less of those, but i tend to go for the healthier versions. changes like this will make healthy eating a lot easier!
start small. maybe just add a fruit or vegtable to two of your meals a day and then all of them. progress always comes from little steps, so find something that works for YOU.

conclusion
self-love means nourishing our bodies in order for them to be their healthiest versions. our bodies keep us alive and do so much for us- so in return we need to nourish them with what they need to keep us feeling good. treating our bodies to the nutrients they crave helps us feel more energized, improves our overall health and mood. it gives us a healthy feeling and a glow. hope u enjoyed this post :))))- amy <3

Hello some IMPORTANT NEWS, today marks an entire year since I (Eira, creator of the show and voice of Sam Enfield) started taking testosterone and I would like to report that it is great. Thank you for your time.
I am the happiest and healthiest I’ve been since I was a kid and it’s such a powerful little thing that it radiates out of me like an LED light.
Being trans is hard but it doesn’t have to be! And it feels important to remind you even in times like these there is still joy out there. I’m out here stubbornly enjoying myself.
They say the best revenge is living well and bestie I am living my wellest.
Well, you know, within reason, one can only expect a certain level of wellness when you’re trying to nurture a career in the arts without a family fortune to back you up.
But even with the whole Hardly Any Money thing and the Mostly Eating Beans thing I’m still the happiest I’ve ever happied and that counts for a lot I think.
Like seriously I have been a Dramatically Miserable person in the past. I’ve violently hated myself! It was rough!! I couldn’t get out of bed!!!
I still struggle with depression and anxiety and neurodivergence is its own kettle of fish but for the first time in my life I actually like who I am as a person.
Anyway I love you all, do something kind for yourself today. Have a nice apple or a bar of chocolate or take a long bath or cuddle a fuzzy creature.
Whatever brings you joy, do it, because joy is important too, especially in times as dark as these. Okay bye ily and I mean it, no take backs xxx

Day 2 of getting my sh!t together!
It is the second day of getting my life together, and although it wasn't perfect, it was still consistent. I am an insomniac, so sleep doesn't come easily to me without any help. I did not take my supplements or drink chamomile tea last night, which generally helped me to sleep. The supplements are usually made up of lavender and other herbs that help relax your nerves.
It works for me. So, I tossed and turned till 4 in the morning, as a result of which I could not go for a walk in the morning. But, I woke up just in time for my yoga class and joined it. I don't really enjoy it, but doing yoga makes me feel better throughout the day. It also helps me with sore muscles and body aches. I also feel very calm and at peace while doing it.
However, unlike yesterday, work was good. I managed to get a lot done and also binged on a couple of episodes from Queen of Tears. I'm so hooked on it. But, I can't watch anything at a stretch so I take breaks in between. It was a decent day but I wasn't feeling my best. I can't figure out why.
Anyways, now let's come to food. Since I woke up late, I wasn't in the mood for breakfast but I still ate something and lunch was a fulfilling Bengali meal, it was so yummy. Dinner was light and hearty. Also, I drank chamomile tea now, so hopefully I can sleep.
Breakfast:
1) Ice cream sandwich (I know not the healthiest option but I love it)

Morning Snack: I got snacky right before heading to shower and that's when I had some leftover white potato curry aka shada alur torkari! It's so yummy. There are days when I eat this for dinner by itself.

Dinner:
I had some chicken ham so I boiled some corn and stirred it with the ham in some butter and pepper. I then put together a salad with the buttered corn and ham, cucumbers, onions, and green chilies, sprinkled some garlic salt, pepper, and chat masala. Served with a spoonful of relish on top. This really put my day together. It was so comforting.

I'm going to sound like a conspiracy theorist but bare with me
every Nigerian president that has step foot into office is a fucking puppet of the UK. oh their smart don't get me wrong but everything they do benefits the UK and lines their (that is the presidents) pocket!
why is 100 naira on the verge of being useless? once upon a time (I'm talking about 2022) I could walk into a store a get a small loaf of bread and a pepsi! not the healthiest but that shit keeps you full for four hours at least. heck in 2017 you could get a full plate of rice and stew with fried beef/fish from a "mama-put" but now in the year 2024 a 100 naira isn't even getting you a loaf of bread!!! what the fuck is happening in our country? where's all the money?
no one can afford to eat, health care is fucking expensive, insurance isn't accessible to everyone, there's a housing crisis even though houses are being built everywhere, public infrastructure is depleting, more than half the fucking population is living below the poverty line, public school education is shit, the private schools are kicking prices to the sky (2021-2022 academic school year my parents paid 1.7million naira in fees. if I was still in Nigeria, I'd be paying 2.5million but the quality of education hasn't changed!!!), all the teachers in the public universities are on strike, SARS is at an all time high, and there are NO JOBS!! EVERYTHING IS BEING RESERVED FOR THE BOURGEOIS
people are dying in cargo ships trying to cross the atlantic because facing whatever evil is out there is better than dying because of their circumstances. and then we have fucking illiterates (as the country is designed to keep us stupid) having religious and tribal wars!!!

Species of choice: Think of this as like, Italian sashimi - it's generally raw fish sliced insanely thinly. You can use any fish you like.

Recipe: This is an appetizer, and there's really nothing to it. Get your fish and slice it really thin while raw (please be careful here - learn how to pick or prepare fish raw), then lay them out and drizzle the olive oil on top. Toppings are your choice, according to ACNH - lemon, salad, basil, lime, etc. look like some of the things ACNH has put on their Carpaccio dishes.
Eating raw fish comes with pros and cons. On one hand, raw fish maintains all of the benefits eating fish provides, particularly more omega 3 fatty acids than cooked fish does (though both options are low in fat and always have a lower carbon footprint than other meat options like beef). The con, however, is that there's always the risk of getting food poisoning or a parasitic infection.
Fish are full of parasites. Many fish - both marine and freshwater - harbor some life stage of a parasite, with many hoping their host fish gets consumed by their final host, like a marine mammal, for example. Many of these parasites remain inactive while at cooler temperatures and begin to react when heated, such as in the stomach of a mammal. Bacteria are relatively the same - they enjoy moist, warm environments to grow uncontrolled. This is why refrigeration was such a boon to humanity. It ensured that food was safe to eat, even days after capture, collection, or purchase and less people got sick from eating spoiled food. However, freezing doesn't *always* kill parasites, which is why cooking fish is the next best thing to keep yourself healthy.

Sense and Other Specific Headcanons
What does your muse smell like?
Shane smells like the black coffee he drinks, the beverage that starts every one of his mornings, hints of a richness unfound anywhere else. Combined with touches of Old Spice Cologne, warm spring water and bar soap, campfires and freshly churned dirt, natural musk, Shane's scent is all his own.
What does your muse's hands feel like?
Rough and callused. From years of dedicated work as a deputy and as a survivor of the apocalypse thereafter, Shane's hands have been through hell. Hardened around the edges, scarred from where battle had been seen and fought. Almost like sandpaper in certain spots, muscles in the hands themselves strong, soft only toward those loved most.
What does your muse usually eat in a day?
Shane's day always begins with a fresh cup of black coffee. No sugar, no cream. Just straight black, but most always accompanied by some sort of breakfast treat. Life as an officer didn't always allow for a big and hearty breakfast, life of a survivor isn't all that much different. For those quick mornings, if he can, he'll grab something small to go with his coffee. A doughnut. A piece of toast with butter. Something easy to make and quick to eat. For days when he can actually enjoy the meal, sit and feast comfortably. Shane likes to go all out. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast with jam, hashbrowns, pancakes and/or waffles, yogurt. It's all there. Lunch is usually a bit lighter, in terms of quantity. He'll go for the simple: a sandwich with chips on the side, maybe soup. A meal far more plain but never less satisfying. Dinner's much like lunch, never as heavy as breakfast, but still able to carry its own. More often than not, Shane settles for protein orientated dinner options. Big steaks. Big burgers. Big fillets of fish. Served with a side of veggies, potatoes or mixed greens, sometimes French fries, if he has the patience for the prep, sometimes pasta, it really depends on his mood and what he's craving.
Does your muse have a good singing voice?
No. Shane can't sing to save his life, but he does try with great effort! Though he's guaranteed to be a little off-pitch and off-key, he'll sing to his favorite songs until his heart's content. For his own enjoyment and the enjoyment of friends who are forced to hear him, he's so bad, he's almost good. Belting out his favorite Elvis tunes, or singing the chorus to any Pearl Jam classic, Shane takes center stage without fear.
Does your muse have any bad habits or nervous ticks?
Yup. He definitely does! In terms of bad habits, one is the fact that he drinks when he's upset. Shane doesn't have a dependency on the bottle, but when he's overly stressed about something, utterly depressed, it's where he turns to. A bottle of beer to soothe his hurting heart, a glass of nothing but good whiskey to calm his spirits. It's not the healthiest choice - Shane isn't proud of his habit - but it is one that he makes continuously whenever he's in that certain funk. Nervous ticks are few and far between, but one that he does have would be running a hand through his hair/scalp. Whenever the feelings of anxiousness creep over, instantly, Shane's hand is in his curls, roaming through them, touching them. Even with the buzzcut, fingertips are always rubbing his head, working out the worries as best as they can.
What does your muse usually look like/wear?
Shane's look never really changes, nor does what he chooses to wear. He's sported the same look for so many years, it's almost weird to see him without it. Curls styled by moose on top of his head, a buzzcut shaven clear to the scalp, with mindful eye of the electric razor, sometimes he has a beard, sometimes not. Outside of those four styles, Shane doesn't venture to try new things. Doesn't care to. In regards to what he wears, his go-to look is a nice pair of dark blue jeans and a basic t-shirt, usually black or brown. A pair of brown boots on his feet, a thick black belt across his hips, his clothing style is definitely casual and practical. Occasionally, he'll throw on a flannel, red plaid with detailing of black or navy blue.
Is your muse affectionate? How so?
Affection for Shane is most always saved for the people he loves or cares about. Warm embraces and tender kisses. He's not very touchy-feely with those he doesn't know, unless it's someone in honest trouble or in desperate need of help. Strangers won't come to know his physical affection at all, and enemies will only be welcomed to the brutality of his fists, his guns and weaponry. Around kids, though, especially those within his own group or community, he's a total softie and turns into a real teddy bear of a man. Very gentle and very affectionate.
What position does your muse sleep in?
Shane sleeps on his belly. Done so ever since he was a little boy, when Jean would rub his back to help him fall asleep. It's hard for him to find sleep in any other position.
Can you hear your muse in the hallway from another room?
Yes. Most definitely! Either by voice or the fall of his footsteps, Shane isn't exactly a fieldmouse of a man. He's loud and obnoxious. Even when he isn't in one of his tempers, he's just a commanding person and can be heard from any nearby space. One stomp from his foot, or one joyous laugh, and anyone who knows him would recognize them as belonging to Shane.

Midoriya is the definition of an overtrainer and we all see how it detriments him: tiredness caught up with him during a run with All-Might, he ‘barely passed’ the written portion of the entrance exam which isn’t normal for someone so academically inclined, and devoted to improvement. I might do the 10 month training plan at some point, but I wanted to go along with the theme of workouts at UA. Midoriya definitely still somewhat overtrains, he is always doing ‘distributed workouts’ which will be a key feature in this (at least for the vanity muscles, come on, he’s 14-17 in the series). He likely trains full body 4x a week which shouldn’t really be done. There comes a point of probable diminishing returns where the body is simply not able to cope with that much volume. However, Midoriya needs to train ‘every muscle’ which probably means a lot of compound movements per workout. He is also constantly working on his quirk which is more physical exertion. In terms of his musculature, he only looks small compared to Todoroki and Bakugou because of his height. Additional factors include he only began working out recently, burns way too many calories (his quirk is literally stockpiling energy and releasing it), his overtraining/lack of sleep, and training mainly for strength not hypertrophy. Which leads me to say, strength training usually comes with hitting failure without a ton of volume, saving this workout from being 2000 reps of everything. 
Diet: Midoriya is seen eating a variety of foods, he seems to appreciate fried meats like Fuyumi’s Karaage and especially KATSUDON! His favorite food! His mom seems to ordinarily prepare him healthy meals that include fish, eggs, vegetables, and rice. He drinks tea fairly often (caffeine is a stimulant and has benefits). He also likes sweets, taiyaki, cake and the like. A balanced diet is the takeaway here,Midoriya can enjoy the modern diet to the fullest, he needs to eat to get stronger and perform better. As normal people, just mind how you feel, and adjust accordingly. Katsudon is fairly balanced, plenty of macros, especially protein, served with a vegetable side and it’s a great dish to add to the weekly rotation. This program is pretty strenuous, so protein to help those muscles recover, vitamins and creatine may also be recommended according to preference. 
Recovery: Midoriya might take advantage of the school infirmary way more often than others, physical therapy for his injuries and healing quirks for much simpler things like soreness is probably how he manages. He’s not as well off as Bakugou, but he seems to enjoy heat therapy such as onsens, compression items (for injuries yes, for soreness, I’m not sure), and he seems like the type to pop a voltaren/ibuprofen/paracetamol (otc painkiller, I’m guilty of taking a panadol/tylenol when I push too hard). 
Similar to Bakugou: It goes without saying, you might want to do a Week A PE on Mon, Wed Fri then a Week B 4 x full body . Anime people are… built different. I’ll be doing 2 lighter workouts and 2 heavier ones just because it makes sense. Incidental training may occur on these ‘lighter days’. WARNING: The volume of this program may be too much to do in one week. Just don’t. Yes, some people are also built differently. Let’s not get ourselves Rhabdomyolysis shall we?

While Midoriya is great, he isn’t the healthiest in terms of recovery, so he destroys himself during the week, and rests on weekends. School isn’t too challenging for him, so he has enough time for himself to do his homework and readings. 
**Optional Incidental Training: To be done during study breaks/upon waking such as the curls and grip training Deku is constantly seen repping out. These can be supplemented with the ‘lighter workouts’. I’ll put some examples of when he might do these:

Talking about cooking and health and stuff.
CW TW for calorie counting, restricting, etc. If anything along the lines of what one may consider 'dieting' (though I don't consider this to be a diet) is triggering for you, skip over this post. Keep yourself safe 💜
I forgot how much better home cooked food is than restaurant food. Even 'nicer' restaurants (like sit-down places, nothing expensive, I'm poor and live in rural Ohio lmao) can't compare to home cooked food (the exception is like, sushi, but I'm not exactly in an area where I can get fresh fish I would feel comfortable consuming raw outside of a restaurant).
I've been in a health slump for almost a year now, since maybe last spring. Some long-time mutuals might remember I made posts sometime in 2021-22 about seeing a doctor about dietary concerns due to my somewhat high cholesterol (because I basically live on cheese and eggs). I was doing well for a while, until the app I used to track my meals started glitching. It just wouldn't save anything I put into it, and I had to go looking for another one that didn't suck and wasn't paywalled. I found one that was alight but still required a lot more effort than the one I had been using (which had also been recommended by my doctor).
So I fell off of tracking for a while. Life stuff got in the way and I didn't have the time, energy, or motivation to keep up with consistently cooking at home, and takeout was just more convenient. Unfortunately it was a boil the frog situation, in which I didn't notice the gradual decline of my mental health during this time. When you hear shit about food having an influence over your mental wellness, it's absolutely true. And you don't really realize it until you start cooking your own food. Even if you aren't cooking the healthiest thing in the world, it's going to make you feel better mentally and physically than any restaurant or takeout food will.
I've been wanting to get back to being healthy because I'm tired of being tired even after 2 cups of coffee and a bottle of dr pepper throughout the day. And because I'm sure my cholesterol is back up to the Shitty Range again, but I'll need to wait until the next blood test to find that out.
I had to wait until after the holidays to restock my kitchen with real food because no fucking way was I shopping around Christmas and New Year's. So now I have real food again, and it's wonderful. I already feel better overall. I haven't had this much energy in like, a year. I actually wanted to clean today and I fucking hate cleaning with every fiber of my being.
And yes, I am restricting calories, because this was what my doctor told me to do. I'm not technically under his supervision anymore, but that's just because he had told me I was doing well and didn't need him to check in on me every month, but I could go back if I wanted, if I had any issues. I'm not making my daily calorie goal/limit public because it's tailored to my height, weight, age, and birth gender, so it won't suit everyone and I also don't want people screaming at me and telling me I'm 'starving' or some shit (I'm all for body positivity, but I really hate the toxic, anti-health side of it).
But I need that restriction and tracking because I probably have undiagnosed BED, and it helps me a lot with that. Without it, I tend to eat absurdly sized meal once a day that is lacking in well-balanced nutrition, and leaves me feeling physically unwell. Or I graze on food all day that has zero nutritional value and also leaves me feeling unwell.
This isn't about weight loss for me, though that is a nice side effect and I won't lie when I say it's exciting fitting into clothes I haven't been able to wear in years. It's about health - physical and mental - and I know I feel best when I'm getting enough protein (something I struggle with when not tracking) and eat a controlled amount of calories.
Anyway it's just nice to feel good and energetic and healthy again after so long and I just wanted to ramble about it I guess.
Also, I know that not everyone can cook for themselves, for whatever reason. Disability, money (I'm on food stamps and it's the only reason I can afford healthy food), time, etc. I am in no way trying to shame anyone for not being able to or not wanting to cook. I don't care what anyone else does. This post is just about me and what makes me feel happy and healthy.
