Ultimate Chronological Order Imodna Playlist!!!
Hello! I feel like I have to introduce myself ‘cause I’m barely on Tumblr. I’m still learning how to use it, I posted a couple of fanarts and they went really well, so I want to try and make myself a spot in here. My name is Noel (they/them) and I’m a big fan of Critical Role. I started watching a few months ago, with Exandria Unlimited. Once I was done I went ahead and started Campaign 3. I’m currently on episode 49 (I know, I have a lot ahead yet). I also watched the first season of Candela Obscura and a couple of One-Shots.
Today I’m here to talk about the Lesbian Southern Gothic Witches. Earlier this week I started to obsess over a playlist. An Imodna playlist, to be more specific. It started with me listening to one I found on spotify (I will credit below because it’s been a huge inspiration for this project) and I got the urge to make my own. At the beginning it was something chill, something normal…until it was not. Over the course of the last 3 days I haven’t thought about or listened to anything else. I got the idea of making the playlist in chronological order and I started to take it very seriously. I divided their history in 10 different chapters and assigned each song to the correct time period. At first it was just gonna be into chapters, but then I started to put them in order inside the chapters too, and it became very personal. For real, this playlist has been the one and only thing I wanted to talk about for days. Last night I finally finished it. I’ve played it for run tests several times and I think it’s finally ready to see the light (kinda feels like the project of my life even though I only spent a few days working on it).
After all this brainrot it didn’t feel right to just tweet a link to the playlist, I wanted the world to know everything that went through my head in the process of making this. I also don’t have many people around who care about Critical Role, and I thought it was a good opportunity to connect with the fandom. So all of this took me here, to tumblr. All of a sudden it became very clear that this was the perfect place to set my baby free.
There’s some things I wanna make clear before you start reading, the first being the classic: english is not my first language. Sounds like a joke at this point but for real, it’s very likely that this thing is full of grammatical mistakes and I want to apologize in advance (specially about the in/on/at situation, I’ve been having lots of trouble with those for some reason) This is also the first time I do something like this so it may not be perfect. The second thing is that this will obviously be filled with spoilers. In fact I actually haven’t even got to The Scene, I saw it around on Tumblr and Twitter (impossible to avoid that spoiler, but I don’t really care). I’m aware that there’s a lot of Imodna moments that I haven’t seen yet, but I couldn't wait to start this playlist. I don’t know if the episodes I have left to watch will translate into new chapters or into new songs for the chapters I already have but either way, I will keep this post and the playlist updated.
With that being said, welcome to this ride through an unhinged mind. Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy!
The tether scene is one of my favorite ones. I love that metaphor with a passion. That’s why I chose this name for the playlist. With the photo I wanted to make an allusion to the red thread myth given that Laudna herself carries around a spool of red string. I even edited the picture so the hands on the right are slightly gray like Laudna’s.
There’s not just one specific vibe to this playlist, but I find it to be a very calming one, with the exception of some specific moments that we will talk about later. I tried to avoid strong and distracting beats so I could keep it a little ethereal. Lots of acoustic guitar (which I love). I’m not going to talk about every single song because some of them have pretty obvious meanings. Usually the songs aren't a 100% match, but they do have a part to it that speaks to me and to the story on a certain level.
Tumblr media
× Imogen and Laudna’s separate lifes ×
At the beginning of the journey that is this playlist, I wanted to introduce the characters. Intertwining their songs, we get to know Imogen and Laudna’s pasts, before they have each other to face the terrors of being witches in a world that doesn’t quite understand them.
Delilah - Florence + The Machine (Laudna)
I sometimes wonder if Marisha has ever listened to this song, because oh my fucking god. I wanted to start the playlist with Abbey, I didn’t because with the intertwining I couldn’t make it fit, but this one is a very good start as well. This song shows perfectly how it must have been being brought back by Delilah and having that power all of a sudden.
Abbey - Mitski (Imogen)
Matilda - Harry Styles (Laudna)
Imogen - Nick Mulvey (Imogen)
Laudna's lullaby - Ginny Di (Laudna)
Time comes in roses - Bess Atwell (Imogen)
The Tradition - Halsey (Laudna)
Burn it down - Daughter (Imogen)
There’s several songs from this album on this playlist. It couldn’t fit better. It reflects perfectly the moment Imogen started to develop her powers. It even refers directly to the way she parts ways with her town (which doesn’t happen for a few chapters but still I felt this one belonged here). Her fear of being a disappointment, her father becoming absent, the feeling of being cursed. It’s all here.
The hanging tree - The hunger games (Laudna)
Still I wait - Anna Leone (Both)
Even with everything they had to go through, they both still wait and cling to hope.
× Imogen and Laudna meet ×
Finally, their paths cross. They experience the feeling of warmth for the first time in a long time. They both feel the need to keep the other one close and begin to appreciate the little things in life, learning how to be taken care of. Goodbye loneliness.
Season of the Witch - Lana Del Rey
I'd like to walk around in your mind - Vashti Bunyan
How important is this song knowing what Imogen can do…
Comfortable Silence - Bella Porter
Without you without them - Boygenius
A hole in the earth - Daughter
That Moon Song - Gregory Alan Isakov
Love brought weight - Old Sea Brigade
That distant shore - Steven Universe
Sick of losing soulmates - Natalie Dawn
I Hear a Symphony - Cody Fry
Sidelines - Phoebe Bridgers
The bug collector - Haley Heyderickx
Sometimes I feel that it’s always Laudna taking care of Imogen, as if she didn't have anything on her own plate. It can't be easy to live with a voice in your head and paranoia. This song shows how Imogen is there to hold Laudna too when it becomes too much.
Look up - Joy Oladokun
If the last one was an Imogen’s POV, this one is totally a Laudna’s POV. Her and her silly little pep talks. “You’re so capable”.
Daylight - Taylor Swift
I love the idea of them learning that life can be good if you find someone to share it with. This song encapsulates that perfectly.
Spell - Dora Jar
I wanted this one to be the last one of the chapter because it introduces the idea of leaving together.
× Imogen and Laudna run away together ×
“Would you run away with me?” They learn what it’s like to have a home that’s not a place, but something entirely new. The past still follows but they’re no longer crushed by it, because they don’t have to sustain it on their own.
Departure - Daughter
Second child, restless child - The Oh Hellos
Just the two of us - Grover Washington, Jr.
I really like to imagine Imodna slice of life scenes when I listen to this song.
Dandelion Wine - Gregory Alan Isakov
Homesick - Dwara, Khotton Palm
Graceland Too - Phoebe Bridgers
When I realized how much of a Laudna's POV this song is, I almost cried.
Telepath - Manchester Orchestra
I really really like Manchester Orchestra, it's one of my favorite bands. I never let go of the chance of spreading them around, and this one is the best song they have. Laudna's POV for sure.
everything i wanted - Billie Eilish
With songs like this one and Intertwined, I wanted to introduce the idea that even though they're definitely better off now that they left the town, that doesn't instantly solve all of their problems. As I said before, the past follows, but they're no longer alone with it.
Savior Complex - Phoebe Bridgers
Intertwined - Dodie
Nothing else matters - Phoebe Bridgers
As long as they're together, nothing else matters.
× You lied ×
Even though I only have a few songs for this precise moment of the story, I thought that it was very important to include their first fight. The gem is broken and Imogen feels betrayed. Laudna is left abandoned and thinks she deserves to be punished for Delilah’s wrongs. We explore jealousy for the first time.
Witches - Daughter
The silence at the end of this instrumental song represents the loneliness that Laudna felt when Imogen left her alone after her incident with Delilah
Landfill - Daughter
There are two possible ways of reading into this one. This is in my opinion a Laudna's POV. She could either be talking to Imogen, expressing her deep rooted desire for a punishment for what she’s done; or to Delilah, alluding to the attachment she has to her own powers (that at least as far as she knows are there because of Briarwood) opposed to the hatred she feels for her and for herself for wanting those powers (this is a theme that they explore later on future chapters)
Are you okay? - Winnetka Bowling League
Afterglow - Taylor Swift
The archer - Taylor Swift
× Laudna’s death ×
Otohan Thull relentlessly kills three members of Bells Hells. A coin is flipped and Laudna is gone, again. What awaits beyond the afterlife? Perhaps a little girl, a monster and a tree.
DVD menu - Phoebe Bridgers
If death’s not exactly DVD menu by Phoebe Bridgers, then someone tell me what’s like because I can’t imagine otherwise. I freaking love how this song connects with Daffodil.
Daffodil - Florence + The Machine
Death with dignity - Sufjan Stevens
Bells in Santa Fe - Halsey
I like to imagine that Laudna didn't appear in Nightmarish Whitestone immediately. Up until this point, she's in a limbo, accepting her own death. Bells in Santa Fe marks the moment she sets foot in that Upside-down kind of world. The constant repetition of “All of this is temporary” is like a mantra for her, the only hope she has of getting through it with her sanity intact is believing that this will also end and she will finally find peace.
Willow Tree March - The paper kiss
Hard times - Ethel Cain
Tether me - Galleaux
With this song and the next one, I wanted to express desperation. We don't get to know in the series how she feels throughout all of this, but I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been. There's a point where anyone would have started begging for help.
Matilda - alt-J
× Imogen’s grief ×
“Is she your favorite?”. Imogen feels deeply guilty for what happened. The possibility of bringing Laudna back is the only thing that’s keeping her from losing it completely. All the regrets, all the words she wishes she said before, all the times she didn’t approached her when she wanted to, come afloat. Grief, disassociation and sorrow.
Words - Storefront Church, Phoebe Bridgers
This song is meant to represent the exact moment of Imogen floating and losing control, with Otohan in her head pushing her to let go.
Goner - Twenty One Pilots
No other song in existence can express better the moment Imogen realize Laudna's gone for good.
Lanterns lit - Son Lux
True Faith - Ashley Johnson
Hurt for me - SYML
Carry you - Novo Amor
My love - Florence + The Machine
Lucky for you - Novo Amor, Gia Margaret
Killer + the sound - Phoebe Bridgers, Noah Gundersen
Should have known better - Sufjan Stevens
Ya'aburnee - Halsey
Show you a body - Haley Heyderickx
Imogen (even Laura) loses hope for a moment during the ritual they do for bringing Laudna back. The end of this song summarize this repeating a lyric over and over (you can clearly see through this playlist how much I love repetition).
× Back together ×
After Bells Hells confront Delilah at the Upside-down-Whitestone of Laudna’s nightmares, Pike manages to bring her back to life. Imogen and her are back hand by hand, and nothing can ever tear them apart again. Here’s where I think something awakes inside them, but they are far from realizing it.
I am the Antichrist to you - Kishi Bashi
Like an angel “fallen from the sky with grace”, Laudna’s back on Imogen’s arms.
Darling - Halsey
This love (Taylor's Version) - Taylor Swift
Now that you're home - Manchester Orchestra
Lose you again - Manchester Orchestra
Halloween - Phoebe Bridgers
But not kiss - Fayer Webster
Like I said, something changes after this. What they’ve been through is not nothing. This song is here to show that something is born deep inside them, on their subconscious far from their reach yet
× Back to Gelvaan ×
Same as with the “You lied” chapter, I felt that this one was important even though I just have one song for it. It just matches perfectly. Imogen and Laudna visit Imogen’s hometown and the place where they met, searching for answers. Old wounds, some closure and an emotionally absent father.
My tears ricochet - Taylor Swift
× Tethered ×
In this chapter the platonic bond is peaking. It takes place right before The Unraveling, giving in to the “Can I kiss you?” phase and becoming romantic. They’ve been through hell and back just to stay together. This is my personal favorite bit of the playlist, everything is extremely intense but not yet explicit.
Tethered - Sleeping at last
I Will - Mitski
Anchor - Alli X
Don't let them see you cry - Manchester Orchestra
Crosses - José González
Quietly - Manchester Orchestra
Francesca - Hozier
Moon song - Phoebe Bridgers
Capital Karma - Manchester Orchestra
Everywhere, everything - Noah Kahan
In a week - Hozier
Monster - King Princess
j's lullaby (darlin' i'd wait for you) - Delaney Bailey
I will follow you into the dark - Miya Folick
I wouldn't ask you - Clairo
× Can I kiss you? ×
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The beggining of something new, the next and most logical step of this journey. The platonic becomes romantic and they get to truly explore the feelings they always had, and some novel ones. This is the moment I know less about, but I’ve used my imagination and my own headcanons.
Can I - Genevieve Stokes
I debated a lot whether to put this one at the end of the last chapter or the beginning of this one because I don't know how relevant Laudna's death is up to this point, and there's a huge reference to this in this song. I know for a fact that the Delilah’s plot is not over and things will change, but I couldn't resist the urge to put it in here, given the name of the song and its obvious connection to the chapter.
We'll never have sex - Leith Ross
Wading in Waist-high Water - Fleet Foxes
This is the last time - The National
All my ghosts - Lizzy McAlpine
Prière pour la nuit - Barbara Pravi, November Ultra
Chewing Cotton Wool - The Japanese House
Bandages - Rachel Bobbitt
This is it, this is The Ultimate Chronological Order Imodna Playlist. I don't know if I'm the first one doing this, probably not, I don't know if this has any value to anyone beyond myself, but I had a hell of a lot of fun. If only one person were to read this till the end I would be more than satisfied.
I’ll link here the playlist that started all of this. Massive respect for this person whoever it is, I took lots of the songs from here
Infinite thanks to anyone who gets here or saves my playlist, feel free to respond with any song that you think adds to the story!! Something tells me this isn't the end of my Imodna brainrot so,,,, more things could be on their way (a fanfic, perhaps?).
No idea how to end this so… long live Lesbian Southern Gothic Witches!!!

Moonlighting rewatch, S1E1: Pilot
So, you know how a lot of television shows can’t really be judged by the first one or two episodes? Moonlighting is certainly one of them. The first episode, which is simply titled “Pilot,” originally aired as an ABC Sunday Night Movie, therefore, there is a lot of set up. The opening scenes play out much more like a standard action crime movie common from the mid 80s. The main mystery centers around a wrist watch (that’s not really a wrist watch) a World War II pilot, and a cache of smuggled Nazi diamonds.
After the perfunctory set up for the crime, we are introduced to Madeline “Maddie“ Hayes, a fashion model, as illustrated by a slow camera pan over several magazine covers, advertisements, and portraits (many taken from Cybill Shepherd‘s early and later modeling career). All is not well in the Hayes home, however, as Maddie discovers that her accountant has milked her dry and taken off with all of her liquid assets. Her lawyer tells her not all hope is lost; she still has several businesses that she was invested in. However, most are losing money and were solely intended to be tax write offs—one of which is the City of Angels Detective Agency.
That’s where we meet the wonderfully daffy Agnes DiPesto and her boss, the wise-cracking, too-cool-for-school private investigator, David Addison. He, of course flirts and lays on the charm, only to be crushed when Maddie declares that he is fired and the business is being shut down. He calls her a cold hearted bitch, she slaps him, and the first step in “enemies to friends to lovers” has been engaged.
David later tracks Maddie down and pleads for the agency to be rescued, but soon they are both entangled in the mystery of the stolen wrist watch and now two murders. This, of course will be set up for the resurrection of the detective agency, and the off the charts chemistry of this comedic, crime solving duo.
Also, remember how many of us who remember the show from the mid-80s will tell modern Tumblr users that the show did not age very well? Yeah there is definitely some old-fashioned sexism. David’s flirtations border on sexual harassment, the way to flatter a woman is not by mistaking her for Playboy’s Miss March 1976, and he definitely has an issue with taking no for an answer. He certainly takes advantage for his own purposes, primarily to save his detective agency, while placing he and Maddie in danger more than once.
Highlights from the first episode:
The mohawk punk rocker that chases down the wristwatch and later gets stabbed for his trouble is fairly recognizable for a lot of 70s bad guy roles, particularly as one of the lead bad guy greasers in the musical Grease.
When Maddie’s chef Andre quits, there’s a hilarious sequence where he illustrates the difference between bouncing and not bouncing. “See this plate? *smashes on floor* No bouncy! This check? Bouncy bouncy bouncy!”
The comically long greeting Agnes gives when she answers the phone for City of Angels detective agency.
The puns, right off the bat, the puns: “Ms. DiPesto, you’re looking rather pail.”
The elevator chase (trust me, you’ll understand when you see it) is both suspenseful and ridiculous.
The bad guy with the glasses (besides, of course, the nazi) is probably one of the creepier villains I remember in sometime.
Heads up, remember, this is an old show so it is still in 4:3 aspect ratio, which they maintain on Hulu.
The one time that the famous Moonlighting theme song by Al Jarreau is during the closing credits, not at the top of the show.
Feel free to post your own thoughts on this first episode, and we’ll see how things change in episode two, as Moonlighting becomes more established as a TV show and not a weekend made for TV mystery movie.

DTVA/DTS TAGTEAM TWEET-ATHON MOVIE #44: PIGLET’S BIG MOVIE(2003)
Well, at least you tried...
This is what I consider movie #2 in the “Anime Pooh” quadrilogy. The movies are fairly standard in their openings, but slowly grow more melodramatic as they go on, coming to an overly dramatic climax.
Also, there’s a strange focus on Roo, who is the stand-in for the plucky shonen protagonist. He’s not in this one all that much, but he’s still more present here than in other movies in the series.
But regardless, this is definitely a direct sequel to The Tigger Movie, as they reference it several times throughout. It feels like they wanted to do for Piglet what The Tigger Movie did for Tigger.
I feel like they had a good idea for an opening and ending to this movie, but had no idea how to stretch it to 75 minutes, so they just padded the middle of this movie with what are essentially TV episodes. And this one wasn’t even meant to be a show!
The segments are cute enough, though I’m not sure if I would say they get their point across that Piglet is braver than he seems.
The Kanga segment is just uncomfortable, and just serves to show that Rabbit is racist against kangaroos for some reason. And the less said about the bath scene the better.
A lot of the characters besides Piglet all seem really “jerkass” in this movie. It’s not abominable, but it’s reaching it’s apex, especially with Rabbit.
Also, I feel like a movie called “Piglet’s Big Movie” should probably focus on Piglet’s perspective more, instead of how others feel about him while he isn’t actually there.
The ending is just really over-dramatic, though not nearly as pure anime-feeling as The Tigger Movie’s ending.
The animation is really great, actually. I feel like DisneyToon has finally gotten the hang of 2D animation, and know how to make it look really good.
(Oh yeah, DisneyToon is finally here. Jungle Book 2 was the first movie to use the name in the end credits, and this one follows suit)
The music just really takes me out of the movie. It’s all of these pop renditions of songs which I think were from the original book? Regardless, they just sound bad.
It’s not helped by the fact that the end credits just play over one of the music videos for these songs. It’s really quite awkward, and just makes the filmmakers look lazy.
Ehhhhh...this is just sort of boring. It didn’t actively insult my intelligence, but I feel like it would’ve been a lot better if they actually wrote a real movie instead of 3 shorts.
2.5/10: Why is the poster for this movie just a shot of Piglet’s ass? Who approved that?

Ah- omg Bee! I- You have me gushing so hard over this. Tumblr is being a butt so I had to reroute this question but thankfully I didn’t lose it from the horrible formatting this hellsite has. I will put my answers under a read more because it’s kinda lengthy, apologies in advance. Haha, anyway thanks for the asks!

Favorite Game(s)
Okay, I'm going to say two for several of these because I'm a hopeless mess but for games, I have a guilty pleasure for SatBK too much to not let the game go. The game is a fantasy game where Sonic is summoned to the world of Camelot by a wizard named Merlina to help stop the Black Knight known as King Arthur. The game is a Wii game so the controls can be a bit janky (it's motion controls similar to a Legend of Zelda game) but honestly, I find that part to be quite challenging and a fun experience nonetheless. As a kid, I never got past King Arthur's boss fight but now that I'm older I beat him a few days ago and currently working on the "after-credits" stuff as we speak. Twelve year old me would be so proud!!
Tumblr media
As you can probably tell, Shadow's counterpart in that game is a fav of mine considering my current icon is him, Lancelot! I really admire Jason's voice acting for Lance in this game a lot, it's way more expressive and cut-throat because the game felt like a last in many ways so they tried to put a lot of effort into SatBk from not just the voice acting but also the story and the music (unlike the previous game, Crush 40 did several songs for SatBK along with having a few other musicians in the OST). Lance is one of the royal knights and closest knight to King Arthur in the story so it's kinda strange at first to see a character like Shadow put his loyalty to a higher authority per say.
But nonetheless, it works really well! His and the other knights interactions with Sonic really shows how vastly different yet similar they are to their modern counterparts. (Ex: Shadow and Lancelot, Knuckles and Gawain, Blaze and Percival)
I wish they kept doing more storybook games, I love that game so much that I grew up playing that along with a few others which brings me to one of my other fav sonic games, Sonic Unleashed which my sibling played a lot and it still holds a lot of weight because it' just that awesome. Honestly ask anyone and they'd still say that game holds up after all these years and not to mention I just adore the CGI in the game's intro cutscene like look at this:
youtube
JUST CHEF KISSES IT'S AMAZING!!
Favorite Show
For shows, Sonic X! I grew up watching that on Sunday mornings when 4kids aired it although I very much despise how they handled a lot of the scenes, dialogue, music choices, and a variety of other things BUT the voice acting, intro song, and some other stuff makes it unique enough and still manages to be alright in the end. Even without some of the cut footage they took out from the japanese dub, the 4kids one still holds some of the same weight from some of the most devasting and heartfelt scenes from the show plus it was still rather fun and entertaining for kids and fans alike.
Favorite Movie(s)
For movies, I love the Sonic 2 movie and can't wait for any indication for the 3rd with Shadow or who his va will be but instead of talking about that I wanna bring up Sonic OVA which is one of the older sonic movies.
Tumblr media
Sonic OVA otherwise known as Sonic the Hedgehog Movie was an two-episode anime film that showcased Sonic and Tails going on an adventure. The first episode is basically them helping Eggman stop his evil robot from taking over his evil fortress while the second episode showcases a sonic character from trying to destroy the world (Not spoiling who because I always thought the reveal was neat as hell). Along with Sonic and Tails, Knuckles makes an appearance and helps the two stop Eggman and his evil machines but Sonic falls victim in the process. It's a fun old-school film yet the ending is a bit bittersweet to me which makes it all the more enjoyable. Plus I love the environment in the film a whole lot.
And now onto the topic you know me too well about... OH BOY
Tumblr media
Shadow the Hedgehog
Otherwise known as The Edgelord aka Doom and Gloom aka the guy who wants to piss in a Hot Topic- Okay scratch that!
Shadow is my all-time favorite character in the Sonic franchise. Ever since I got introduced to the game series, I was hooked on this red striped emo boy and will most likely be until the day I inevitably perish from this earth as morbid as that is. Shadow has a lot of cool qualities about him that make him one of the most unique characters in the entire series. Sadly... he gets ruined a lot because of this.
In my humble opinion, both SA2 and Sonic Heroes are the thing that define Shadow the most as a character. Sad to say it but Shadow the Hedgehog the game does not do justice as much as the other games did nor did it for the other characters he interacted with, not that I hated the game. I’ve been playing Shadow the Hedgehog recently because my brother wanted me to get acquainted with it and have enjoyed it so far.
My favorite things about Shadow are these four things:
His Backstory
His Promise
His Relationship with Others
His Abilities
His Backstory
One of the most interesting yet tragic backstories for a Sonic character. Shadow was created by Gerald Robotnik (Eggman's grandfather) as the ultimate lifeform, a cure for his granddaughter, Maria's illness but was also fit to be a means of a weapon because the government funded Gerald's experiments. Shadow was really close to Maria to the point he saw her as an older sister figure and would end up helping her while on the space colony ARK. However, people did not like Shadow because of how strong he was and feared him to the point GUN invaded the ARK and tried to get rid of everything and everyone on there including Shadow. Because of this, Maria saved Shadow and he was sent to earth but she died in the process along with everyone on the ARK that day while Gerald was taken to Prison Island. Before Maria was killed, she requested that Shadow protect the people of earth and bring them happiness.
However in Sonic Adventure 2, the game that brought Shadow into the series, that promise was changed by Professor Gerald as a means to seek revenge on everyone for killing his granddaughter, Maria. Shadow was later woken up by Eggman 50 years later and told Eggman about Professor Gerald’s device on the ARK to take over the Earth. Shadow lost all his memories and the only thing he recalled was that flickering promise with Maria that Gerald changed in his memories.
His Promise
Before Maria was killed, this is what Maria told Shadow:
Tumblr media
In Sonic Adventure 2, Rouge the bat asks Shadow if he’s the real Shadow since all data on him hinted that he wasn’t the Shadow everyone thought he was but he replies that even if he isn’t the real shadow, the promise he made with Maria is the most real thing about him.
youtube
No matter how many times Shadow loses his memories or when people are against him, he keeps that promise close to his heart because he loved Maria.
In Sonic 06, one of the best lines he uttered was this:
Tumblr media
“If the world chooses to become my enemy, I will fight like I always have!”
Even when people are against him, betray him, or otherwise eventually leave him-the very people Maria wanted him to protect and walk alongside with, Shadow still chooses to fight for them even knowing what lies ahead for his fate.
His Relationship with Others
Shadow doesn’t have many friends like Sonic or many of the other characters in the series however that doesn’t stop him from making allies or fighting alongside the other members when the time comes.
Maria Robotnik
Maria is the first friend Shadow makes.
Shadow sees Maria as a close friend and keeps his memory of her close to his heart. Unlike the many humans Shadow saw on earth and the ARK, Maria treated Shadow with kindness and didn’t think of him as a weapon. They both vowed to each other to visit the earth one day and would often look down at the planet through one of the windows as they studied together and played. Whenever Shadow was confused, Maria was there to help him. While Maria knew she could count on Shadow when things went wrong. Ultimately, Maria sacrificed herself to save Shadow from the military with her last thoughts on him fulfilling his purpose and bringing happiness.
Fun fact, Maria was the person to give Shadow his name!
Team Dark
Tumblr media
Team Dark consists of Shadow, Rouge the bat, and E-123 Omega, a robot who was created by Eggman that seeks revenge on his creator. The team was first introduced in Sonic Heroes and follows the trio in trying to stop Eggman. The group are basically a team of misfits who have either done bad things in the past or were designed to do evil yet come together to form a good solid team with good intentions in mind, sort of a found family of sorts.
ALSO, I will personally go to SEGA and annihilate them myself if they say Shadow isn’t friends with these two. Team Dark is and will always be a thing in the series and they can’t take away the friendship these three have for each other!
Sonic the Hedgehog
Last of all, the fabled hedgehog who loves adventure, Sonic! Shadow rivals Sonic unlike any other character and is seen to have about the same in abilities-strength and speed. Unlike characters like Knuckles or Eggman when it comes to fighting the blue speedster, Shadow was specifically designed to match Sonic in appearance and strengths.
When Shadow first met Sonic, he didn’t think much of him nor did he care for him. Sonic only thought of Shadow as a impersonator- a faker because he stole a chaos emerald and everyone thought Shadow was him because the only hedgehog they knew was Sonic while Shadow thought Sonic was a copy of him. Yet throughout their interactions in Sonic Adventure 2, both begin to view the other as a rival. Eventually, Sonic gets thrown out of the ARK into space and manages to survive with a fake chaos emerald which impresses Shadow to the point that he, himself believes that Sonic is the ultimate life form and not him. They later encounter each other a final time as Sonic goes to stop the ARK from falling to which Shadow asks the ultimate question, “what are you?” to which Sonic responds with this famous line:
Tumblr media
To which they soon fight each other a final time. However, I always thought the line really solidified Sonic as a character and how he differentiates with Shadow. He’s a free spirit at times and does what he thinks is right. Which I’ll bring up later on.
When Shadow recalls Maria’s real wish in SA2, he goes and helps Sonic stop the ARK from crashing onto earth by both of them turning into their super forms using the chaos emeralds. Their power alone doesn’t stop it so Shadow does something only he can do and that was to take off his Inhibitor Rings to unleash his full power but with the cost of that he ends up falling down onto the earth. Sonic ends up getting his rings when going back to the ARK and hands one to Rouge, knowing they were close and telling everyone what happened to Shadow.
During the 4th Twitter Takeover, Shadow even states Sonic tried to save him before he inevitably died yet pushed Sonic away so he wouldn’t fall too but the hero’s determination wasn’t forgotten by him, finding the moment to be one of his most memorable adventures.
youtube
When Shadow comes back from the dead to join Team Dark in Sonic Heroes, Sonic is surprised to see the guy alive again jokingly saying “Heh. Talk about being stubborn and full of surprises...”
So not only does Sonic surprise Shadow at times but the same can be said vice versa.
Later in the series, the two still remain as rivals at times and on occasion, allies. However the two have conflicting views with each other, Sonic being a free spirit and only does what he thinks is right while Shadow is stubborn and only does what he thinks is right as well. Their views and ideas often rebuke the other but ultimately they have mutual respect for the other. And in recent stuff, they have faith in each other’s choices and help each other. Sonic is one of the only people to get through to Shadow and because of this, Shadow takes his words into account even if he still despises him sometimes. Also like I stated before, the two have very similar strengths and speed that often times they can be close and personal with the other, both in the sense of fighting and understand the other when it comes to things, not any of the other characters match what they have as crazy as that is.
On another note, I see fans also depict Sonic as being that promise Maria gave Shadow. While Shadow was kept away, Sonic was basically fulfilling said wish by protecting people from Eggman and wanting peace for his home. Sonic shows the same kindness Maria has and often times her same free spirit and overall nature for the planet that once reminded Shadow.
His Abilities
This last one is gonna sound a bit silly but I don’t know how else I’m going to phrase it so here goes.
Shadow is known for his speed just like Sonic but unlike Sonic, Shadow uses his hover shoes to move around but in better terms, some would say he skates around. To put it simply, I find the way he moves to be fun and cool haha! It’s cool to play as him and watch him glide across the screen. In games like Sonic Adventure 2, that feels especially nice! I don’t know how to describe it really, it’s just really neat.
He also has the ability to drive vehicles but one I find very interesting is his bike, the Dark Rider! A cool motorcycle he rides in one of the racing games and was used to promote his game, Shadow the Hedgehog back in the day.
Favorite Side/Lesser Known Characters
Tough question but I’ll shorten this down unlike the others.
Tumblr media
Mephiles aka what you might know as Memphis Tennessee from the Sonic Fandubs is one of the most evil and darkest villains in the sonic franchise. He comes from the game, Sonic 06 and seeks out his other half, Iblis in order to become whole again and destroy the world.
Mephiles is basically what Shadow could have been if he stayed on the darker path. But in Shadow’s story of Sonic 06, he proves Mephiles wrong and stops him. However even though Shadow and the others stop him, ultimately, Mephiles still kills Sonic and becomes whole like he sought after. Killing Sonic wasn’t even a necessary thing for him to do but he does so anyway because he was THAT evil. Not to mention Mephile’s voice is terrifying, his laugh and dialogue still gives me chills from listening to it.
Sadly, Mephiles is only in Sonic 06 and will never be used again as a villain character for the series. He’s made a few cameos here and there but ultimately will never rear his ugly mug of a no mouth face again.
I wish he was in Sonic Speed Battle though...
Tumblr media
Cream the Rabbit, a lovable rabbit girl who wants to help Sonic and his friends with the aid of her close friend, Cheese the Chao. Cream is a member of Team Rose and helps Amy from time to time. She hates violence and is a very well-mannered kid that can fly with her bunny ears similar to Tails using his tails.
I love her relationship with Sonic a whole lot, seeing as I grew up playing sonic games on the computer with her in it and watching their interactions in Sonic X. Sonic acts like a older brother to Cream, he looks out for Cream and is impressed by her skills and sweet nature. In the IDW comics, he even states that unlike other children who look up to him, he believes that she will grow up to be a great person in the future and knows he can count on her like she can count on him!
Tikal the Echidna, a character from the first Sonic Adventure game, who aids Sonic and his friends to stop Chaos, an entity known for its destruction after Eggman tried to use Chaos to take over the world.
She was designed for Sonic Adventure specifically in similar vein that Shadow was specifically designed for Sonic Adventure 2 however unlike Shadow’s death and resurrection, Tikal didn’t really come back into the series. Though to be fair, unlike Shadow, Tikal is a part of the Master Emerald and befriended a literal god of destruction that looks like a water monster named Chaos.
Her design is based off of South American culture, along with the rest of her tribe and their village! She’s a pacifist who was raised by her grandmother and wanted to stop her father from stealing the chaos emeralds from Chaos. She loves chao, the little creatures that live around the temple. She wishes for peace but struggles a lot with that sometimes but thankfully Sonic helped her in SA. She’s amazing!
Tumblr media
And that wraps it up! Sorry for how long this is, I wanted to be consistent and accurate with each character so hopefully I made this thorough enough. Thanks again for the ask, @potofbees!

Life update
Ooooohkay well, obviously, I haven't been updating on here, nor have I been going out for exercise daily. Honestly, that lasted a little longer than I thought it would. Maybe once my fall convention gauntlet has slowed down, and if I can convince myself to go out jogging in the cold, I'll get back into it. As it stands now, though, I'm either too busy or too tired to go out jogging, sadly.
Last Wednesday, I went to go see the Ghost Files live show down in Atlanta. I drove down earlier in the day so I could make my pilgrimage to Sweet Hut, a chain of restaurants in Atlanta that primarily sell these very cheap, very delicious bread buns. Like the name suggests most of them are sweet, but they have a fairly good selection of savory buns, too (think like bbq pork, ham and cheese, green onions, cheese filled, etc.). I stocked up on a bunch of those to eat all weekend for lunch and dinner and just as snacks.
Ghost Files live was a wonderful experience. The venue it was at was an old several stories tall church called The Tabernacle. I had a pretty good seat, all things considered. The episode they screened was the season finale (still not actually out on Youtube as I'm writing this!) which was of course absolutely hilarious, they had to pull out all the stops for the finale naturally. Watching it with a room full of strangers was a next level experience. There were parts where I was laughing so hard I was crying. And then after the show, of course, the Ghoul Boys themselves came on stage to tell jokes, have witty banter, and answer audience questions. And they did an estes spirit box session on stage, resulting in a ghost having "liquid beef" with Shane Medej.
10/10 experience, will absolutely go again if they tour next year and come anywhere near where I'm living. It was great. And that was only the start of the weekend!
Thursday morning I got up bright and early to get my badge for Anime Weekend Atlanta. I had a few hours to kill until I had anything to do, so I wandered around the Cumberland Mall, attached to the Cobb Galleria via a sky bridge. I hadn't been since 2019 (to the mall or AWA), and in the intervening years they ADDED A WHOLE ASS ARCADE WITH JAPANESE RHYTHM GAMES? So I might have spent over $20 on credits to play said Japanese rhythm games. And y'all, I have a couple of litmus test DDR songs that I try to play every time I get the chance, to test where my level of stamina, coordination and general health is at. Not only did I pass them, I actually did better at them here than at Dragoncon! What the heck! I got a high B on Daikenkai on Standard mode!! I also got to dick around with some taiko drum master, a couple of new rhythm games I've never played nor seen in any con's video game room, and get my ass kicked at Time Crisis 5. It was fun! A great way to kill a few hours!
Then I did the Super Happy Fun Sell, AWA's Thursday night flea market. Once I got set up I literally didn't have time to leave the table or even look at my phone for more than a minute or two. I was swamped. I sold a lot. I bought Lucina and Robin Amiibos from the table next to mine. It was very packed.
AWA, in general, was pretty packed. All weekend, but on Saturday afternoon in particular, I found myself having to employ Dealer's Room crowd tactics in most of the Galleria. It's definitely time for them to move to a new, bigger venue. I just hate that they are, because I have such fondness for the Cobb Galleria and the Renaissance Waverly. I have over a decade of memories at that location. It's sad to see them move, even if it's for the best. Also they'll be in December next year?! What the fu-
I decided on a whim to enter the costume contest, because one of my hotel roommates was entering and I went along with her for solidarity, realized in line I could enter Izou, filled out the application, and got a judging time. Spoiler alert: I didn't win anything, but it was still a lot of fun to be in the contest itself! I got to cheer on the other contestants, I got to see some cool ass cosplays, and I got to show off my (fake) man tits on stage to a crowd of adoring fans. Or at least a crowd of indifferent fans and some people cheering.
On Friday I also got to meet Michelle Ruff (the voice of Yoko from Gurren Lagann), tell her how much Gurren Lagann means to me (a whole lot) and get her to sign my box set! I went to the Type-Moon photoshoot as Izou and there was another Izou there!! He was in the second ascension form (with the big hat and the red hair) and we got many pictures together. It was great! There was a great turn out, lots of characters, including ones I haven't seen often at cons!
Saturday morning I got up early and got into my Xellos cosplay to meet another voice actor. This time it was Veronica Taylor, the voice of Amelia from Slayers! She called me Zelgadis, which I'm attributing to muscle memory because she probably said the name Zelgadis 2000% more times than the name Xellos. I got to tell her how much Slayers means to me (a whole fuckin lot), got a picture with her, and she is just one of the kindest, coolest people out there.
I then proceeded to make a full loop of the entire dealer's room and artist alley, spend way too much money, and come away from the experience so ready to get changed out of Xellos. Unfortunately I was changing back into Izou for the costume contest, so I didn't get much respite from the heat, but oh well. In the dealer's room I found something I've been searching for for a while - the nendroid of Izou! And also Okita Souji, which I got a discount on. I also spent far too much money at the only booth I've seen selling CDs, but I found the Fire Emblem Awakening OST, Slayers NEXT and TRY, the Digimon Adventure 02 character song CDs, and the effing Gurren Lagann soundtrack. Like I wasn't going to just throw my money at them?? I also found some cool stuff in the artist alley. All in all, not too bad.
As mentioned earlier, the costume contest was pretty fun. Afterwards I peeled myself out of my fake chest and put on normal clothes, because I had to repack the car for the journey ahead.
Sunday I got up super duper early and got on the road headed to Greenville for SC Comicon Jr, where I had an artist alley table! I did pretty decently and managed not to spend all of my earnings on dumb shit. Just some of them. I found a vendor selling the 151 Erika full art cards and blacked out and I have two copies of one and one copy of the other one. Leave me alone. The same vendor also had that tin with Hop and Wooloo on it which I've been looking for for ages so, y'know, it all worked out.
After SC Comicon Jr I had dinner with some friends at the local Menkoi branch and then got on the road to finally go back home. And after being stuck in traffic for an hour and a half more than necessary because of construction and wrecks, I finally made it back at like 10pm.
And then I had to work solo the next day. And the next. And now we're at today, where I called out sick for a very deserved day of rest and packing for Nekocon, because I am insane. I just did 1.5 cons and a live show last weekend, next weekend is a convention volunteering with the manga library, the next weekend is an artist alley con here in Charlotte, then a one-day con down in Charleston on the 19th, and by the end of this gauntlet I just hope I have the money to buy a license for Hatch Embroidery and/or a PS5 so I can finally play Baldur's Gate 3 and Fate/Samurai Remnant, and eventually FF7 Rebirth in February.
Whew.
OH AND I'M ALSO TRYING TO DO NANOWRIMO
DID I MENTION I'M INSANE

He was also involved in the development of new recording artists, as well as appearing in concert, across the United States. Over the years, Dante has finished producing several videos which include The Association, The Grass Roots, Mark Lindsay, Lou Christie, and Brian Hyland just to name a few.

His voice can also be heard on dozens of radio and TV commercials.
#Who wrote sugar sugar archies series
Dante also co-wrote many songs performed by Jay And The Americans and Johnny Mathis, and was musical producer for Disney's TV series The Little Mermaid.ĭante can be heard singing background vocals on numerous hits including the McCoys' "Hang On Sloopy", Tommy James' "Draggin' the Line" and the Manilow hits of the '70's. The song was a takeoff of "Leader of the Pack," sung by the Shangri-Las. Previously, with The Detergents in the mid-'60s, he helped take "Leader of the Laundromat" into the Top Ten. Some of Ron Dante's other production credits include, Cher, Ray Charles, John Denver, Dionne Warwick, Pat Benatar, Paul Schaeffer and of course, The Archies. Barry asked Ron to listen to some of his songs that day and the two went on to turn out some of the biggest hits of the seventies. The other singers on that commercial were Valerie Simpson and Melissa Manchester. Dante met Manilow while both were singing a commercial which Barry had written. Another backup singer, Andy Kim, had a #1 hit in 1974 with a solo song, "Rock Me Gently". Ellie Greenwich and Toni Wine, the female vocalists, enjoyed lengthy careers as a songwriter and session vocalist, respectively. Ron Dante, who sang all the lead vocals, went on to sing other Bubble gum tunes like the Billboard #9 hit "Tracy" (as The Cuff Links) and produced most of Barry Manilow's chart successes in the seventies. The group is also notable for the singers who provided the voices of The Archies, all of whom went on to successful careers. The group also enjoyed another Top 10 hit in 1970, with "Jingle Jangle", before Bubble gum music gave way to Disco. It went to #1 in the Summer of 1969, selling six million copies and knocking The Rolling Stones off the top of the charts in the process. "Sugar Sugar" was an infectious tune built on rich boy-girl harmonies and a catchy instrumental hook played on the xylophone. But it was a song released the next year that won the animated group its biggest success. The first one, "Bang-Shang-A-Lang" was a #22 hit on the Pop charts and got the band off to a good start. The Archies' songs were also issued as singles. Kirshner tapped veteran Pop producer Jeff Barry to assemble the snappy, kid-friendly songs The Archie Show needed. The show's music was supervised by Don Kirshner, the man who put together the music for The Monkees. Each episode featured a song and dance segment performed by the characters. The Archies began their animated lives when The Archie Show debuted on Saturday morning in September of 1968. Why? Because they were cartoon characters. However, despite this success they never did any live performances or touring. Search for: Follow This, That, and the Other on WordPress. The Archies were a Bubblegum Pop group that had a #1 hit, appeared frequently on Saturday morning television, and put out three hit albums. I’m gonna make your life so sweet, yeah yeah yeah Oh sugar, pour a little sugar on it honey Like the summer sunshine pour your sweetness over me When I kissed you, girl, I knew how sweet a kiss could be I just can’t believe the one to love this feeling to I just can’t believe the loveliness of loving you It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1969 and remained there for four weeks. The song was initially released in late May 1969, on the Calendar label, but achieved only moderate chart success until it was re-released in mid-July 1969 on the Kirshner label, where it became a massive success by late summer/early fall. The “you are my candy girl” line came from them thinking about what kids that age like (candy). The song falls in the genre of pop music known as “bubblegum music.” Bubblegum music, which was popular in the late 60s and early 70s, had an upbeat sound designed to appeal to pre-teens and teenagers.Īccording to Jeff Barry, he and Andy Kim wrote this song with preschoolers in mind since that was the audience for the Archie TV show. It was originally recorded by the virtual band the Archies, a group that performed on the Saturday morning cartoon show, Archie. “Sugar, Sugar” was a song written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim. For this week’s Song Lyric Sunday, the prompt is “sugar/candy.” I’m positive that many of my fellow bloggers will select the same song I have chosen, since it’s all about sugar and candy!

Contents of Sunlightheartstudio's Yugiowned! GX 2, Parts A and B (To the best of Kirby's memory)
Like I mentioned earlier, I'm not sure about the order of a lot of these...particularly about which skits belong to which part. (I do know that Part B had several of those weird longer anime crossover things.) It's a bit like playing the Clefairy Says minigame, except I have to remember a combination of like fifty arrows and I haven’t actually seen the blackboard in over a decade! Warnings as before: Language and sexual references.
Also: SHS posted a preview beforehand, which contained at least one clip that didn't make it into the actual video. This was one featuring O'Brien and "Where the Hood At." I think I can guess why it was cut.

NOTES
* Made well before the John Mulaney sketch existed.
** Thought it'd be worth noting that this was one of my favorite clips in the whole series. The way the facial expressions synced up with the music, the camera zooming in and out at the words "touch myself," and the fact that Weird Al's voice sounds vaguely similar to Manjoume's...hilarious!
*** Too bad "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons wasn't a thing at that time.
**** I remember thinking at the time, "But those characters DID have sex at the end of the movie! Us Valentineshippers still have hope!"
***** For the life of me, I couldn't find the source for this on Google, even though I remember all the words.
****** I wish I knew what this song was. It was pretty.
******* This was popular enough to be its own video at one point.

On this date in music…

Y/n invites the AOT gang to a party.
You looked around for your friends, having foolish lost track of the chaotic group after you paused to hang your coat up. You warned them all to remain close, these college parties tended to get a little wild for your liking, but of course, they were all too stubborn.
"Hey you! I already said that we weren't playing Lady Gaga here!" Your ears prickled, and you turned, seeing Hanje at the DJ's box. You quirked a brow but made a mental note of where she was for later.
You moved on, searching for the rest of your friends. You opened the door to a bathroom, finding several girls hunched over, puking into the toilet, sink, and tub. Erwin was standing in the midst of the chaos, holding their hair as they drunkenly emptied their guts.
"Erwin? We've been here five minutes!" Erwin looked up at your newfound appearance. "Y/n! Quick, I think something in their drinks made them sick, you need to warn the other people at this party!" You met his blue eyes, "What?" He made a motion with his right hand, accidentally tugging on a girl's hair and bobbing her head. "Hey!" She squeaked before puking again. "Hurry, Y/l/n! They may not have much time left."
You rolled your eyes. "Erwin, they're drunk, not suffering from food poisoning." He looked down at the girls. "Really?" You sighed.
Later, you came upon Levi, who had been keeping a practiced eye on Hanje and other various members of your friend group. He had designated himself the designated driver of the group, which was admirable but you made sure not too drink too much either, knowing that there was no way Levi could possibly deal with all of you being wasted.
Reiner had challenged Annie to a drinking game, and was in the midst of losing miserably, whilst Bertholdt silently cleaned up the mess that Reiner and Annie created with their squashed beer cans.
You also found ymir and Historia cheerfully dancing to Poker face, and you marveled at the way the two seemed to be in their own world. You smiled, at the red that dusted ymir's cheeks and at Historia's hand on her cheek. A crash from the kitchen behind you caused you to cringe and jump slightly, before you rushed in.
Not unsurprisingly you found Connie and Sasha at the epicenter of the chaos. Neither were drunk but both were still idiots. A broken dish and what had been cheese fries was on the floor at their feet. "Hey! What'd I say about getting into their food?" You pointed threateningly at the duo. "If we do it don't get caught?" Sasha had a fry in her mouth and big eyes. "Clean this up, I'll go get Levi." "Oh, no don't get Levi!" Connie whined, waving his hands dramatically. "I'm getting him!"
Marco and Armin had found a old monopoly game and had sat down to play it in the dinning room of the house. You found it especially funny at the amount of girls the two had unwittingly attracted, who sat down to play with them.
"Y/n!" You perked up and turned, careful to not spill your drink. Jean smiled at you, his eyes the tiniest bit lidded. "Care for a dance?" You had actually been expecting this, since Jean's flirtiness doubled with the mix of alcohol. "You look hot, y/n!" He gently wrapped his hands around you as the two of you slid onto the dance floor. You laughed, enjoying Jean's wild dance moves. Finally he popped into a Russian dig, "hype me up best friend!" He called, and you whooped until he ran right into Eren.
"You drunk idiot! Hello, Y/n!" Eren glared at Jean, but smiled at you. "Look at this drink I made! It was clear but now it's brown!" Before you could respond, Jean hopped up. "y/n doesn't care about your shit drink!" You sighed as the two began arguing, which slowly developed into a tense dance battle between the two men.
Mikasa had been with Eren, you guessed most likely protectively watching over him. She watched with you, before you smirked and outstretched your hand. Mikasa took it, a blush creeping onto her cheeks.
In the soft glow of a living room, you and Mikasa danced together to an old 80's tune, the rest of your friends giving elsewhere. It was a nice party.
--------------------------------------------------
Y/n wears a skimpy outfit
You smiled at yourself in the mirror, tugging gently on your new top. Oftentimes you found it hard to truly appreciate your body, but the corseted top made you feel like a definite hot girl. You wore long black shoes, tight leather pants, dark jewelry. You just looked ready to step on some bitches.
You exited your room, and grabbed your purse, ready to head out with your girls. Eren was sitting on your coach, playing some video game. "Hey we'll be heading out soon so I left some numbers to order pizza for when you get hungry." You turned, digging in your purse for your keys. "Y/n, I'm not a child! I can take care of- holy shit, y/n!" You turned, Eren had dropped his controller, no longer focused on his game. "You can't go out like that! There are men out there!" You smiled and pulled out ur taser, flashing it a couple times. "I know."
Mikasa exited her room from the same hall, entering the living room. "Y/n, you look nice." You smiled and put your taser up. "thanks Mikasa!" "Wait, Mikasa you're going out too?" Eren stood up. "it's girls night out, Eren." You rolled your eyes. "but I wanna go too!" Mikasa opened her mouth but you beat her to it. "No."
The front door opened and Armin entered, his blonde hair flittering in his eyes. "Hey; Eren, Mikasa, and..." A blush erupted onto his cheeks. "Y/n!" His blues casted panicked glances around the room as if he wasn't sure he should make direct eye contact with you.
Eren pointed to his flustered friend. "See!" Again you rolled your eyes. "You look v-very nice, y/n." Armin mumbled before he sat down. "Thanks, sweetie." Armin's face reddened.
Suddenly the front door to the apartment flung open, allowing Jean, Marco, and Connie to enter. They were in the midst of conversation, laughing at a joke Connie had said. "Hey bitch-" Jean's words caught somewhere in the back of his throat as he saw you. His cheeks erupted into fire and he stopped, causing Connie and Marco to slam into him. "Hey!" Connie looked past Jean's frozen position, and smiled knowingly. "Bark, Bark, Bark! Y/n you look a sexy grim reaper!" Jean blinked as you laughed. Connie slid past Jean and made his way to the kitchen, giving the others a greeting as he did so.
Marco smiled at your outfit. "You look so pretty y/n!" Your cheeks were beginning to hurt from happiness and you wondered if you should wear this stuff more often and not just in your dreams. Jean seemed to snap out of it. "You...you...nice, y/n." He managed to get out, not right before Eren made fun of his stuttering.
Sasha exited her room, and to the delight of everyone gave a twirl in her little dress. "y/n! You look very nice!" She may or not have said whilst grabbing your boob. Historia admitted to helping you pick out the fit, and ymir made everyone thank her for her service.
"you should wear this more often, y/n. Or at least less more often." Annie nudged you from behind. You were amazed at her sauveness but also the blush that dusted the tips of her ears.
Reiner and Bertholdt came through the fire escape (because Reiner has been on a "parkour!" Kick recently. But Reiner made sure to call you hot, (effectively pissing off both Jean and Eren.) And Bertholdt simply blushed, quickly agreeing with Reiner.
Finally Hanje, Erwin, and Levi arrived, Levi bringing leftovers from his tea shop. Hanje had squealed and called you "hot!" Erwin was certain you were only wearing a bra and refused to look at you, whilst Levi couldn't take his eyes off of you, but said nothing all the same.
"Well ladies, I hope you all are ready!" Hanje smirked. "Who's riding with me?"
--------------------------------------------------
Y/n gets a tattoo
"So...what do you think?" You stood in front of Hanje, Annie, and Ymir, your shirt raised to your underboob. Hanje clapped excitedly. "It looks great, y/n!" "I like the view." Annie said dryly. Ymir nodded. "yeah it's nice, just don't show Historia."
"Don't show me what?" Historia entered the living room via the kitchen. Immediately her eyes found your tattoo, and she smiled. "lovely!"
The others found the tattoo under different circumstances however.
Sasha had known first, since she went with you to get it originally, having helped you pick out the design. By that I mean, she mainly just agreed with whatever you said but helped you out none the less. Mikasa found out before you were training together, (she thought it looked cool).
Eren found out because he walked in on you in the shower. "Shit! Wait is that a tattoo!?" He would've told you he liked it had you not kicked the shit out of him and lectured him about coming over to your apartment constantly, blah, blah, blah.
Armin found out because you showed him, (and he promptly died a bit) but he also really liked it and you invited him to come get another one with you some time. Maybe, just maybe you had a weak spot for the blonde.
Jean and Connie found out because you sent Marco a snap of it, and they looked at it from over his shoulder. Connie laughed at Jean's sharp in take of breathe and Jean tackled Connie. Meanwhile as they fought in the background Marco sent you a video snap of his response.
Reiner found out via a training session, much like Mikasa. "Why, y/n I never knew what a sly devil you could be!"
Bertholdt knew because Reiner made sure to describe it to him in great detail, knowing that the tall fellow would get flustered.
Erwin was probably told at some point but forgot so anytime he sees in you in a bikini or something skimpy he gets his mind blown.
Levi found out because, you may or may not have sent him a snap (with much different intentions then the one you had sent Marco.) Levi thought it was badass, though.
--------------------------------------------------
Y/n kisses the AOT gang
Yes, you had kissed each member of the gang. For any of these bitches, they could get it, let's be real.
You had given Eren forehead kisses many a time between he and you. This had been pretty random but regardless, it was something the two of you did often.
You often kissed Armin on the cheek, pinching them together whilst you smushed his face and pulled him in for hugs. Really, you loved Armin.
You kissed Jean on several occasions, partially because you weren't one to refuse an offer from an attractive man and also it was the quickest way to fluster the boy. He has the king of talking the talk but never actually walking the walk.
You give Marco and Connie platonic cheek kisses everytime you see each other. They also give you cheek kisses back. Marco also gives hugs!
You blow Reiner kisses all the time because that's exactly what your friendship is.
You give Bertholdt sweet little cheek kisses and he's always a blushing mess afterwards.
You give Erwin goodbye kisses and he always returns them.
You've made out with Levi. His tongue's been in your mouth. Yes, you kiss.
You give Hanje cheek kisses all the time. You seriously love this woman.
You've made out with Annie too. You also give her kisses on her neck just to hear her giggle.
You and ymir don't usually kiss, but you and Historia kiss each other's cheek.
You've kissed Sasha smack on the lips before, and you two cuddle all da time.
You give Mikasa forehead kisses because touch isn't necessarily her love language but you know when she needs it.
--------------------------------------------------
Y/n gets into a fight
You don't get in trouble, like ever. You're reliable, kind, level headed. However sometimes you come across a Titan of an issue and need your friends to rally behind you.
Historia will get into an argument for you, but she isn't scary at all, nor is she very powerful when it comes to muscle might.
Mikasa will kill a bitch for you. Straight up. She may not always show it outright but she loves you.
Ymir would video tape the ass whooping of whoever dares to cross you until they tried to come after Historia. Then she's seeing red.
Annie would laugh at whoever is trying to fight you. She won't step into the fray directly until you need her though, she trusts you do take care of it.
Eren doesn't care if they haven't even thrown a punch if they even say a damn thing that he doesn't feel you deserve he will start the fight. He has no self control. He's an aries.
Jean will also fight for you. He'd be a hundred percent more levelheaded about the problem but he won't let you take shit.
Connie will at first be confused and then pull his signature "bruh" face. He'll be the one that takes the phone from Ymir after Historia gets involved.
Sasha will try to protect you the best she can. She doesn't want you hurt so she'll probably grab a spoon as a weapon and charge.
Reiner is just trying to vibe and then suddenly he's pulled into an all out war. Sigh. But at least it's for you.
Hange will find this all very funny, but she'll help out in between snorts.
Erwin will just stand there looking at your antagonist dead in the eye with the slightest raise of his brow. That's the end of it all.
Armin will go all manipulative bestie on however is bothering you.
Levi merely get in between you. He may be short but nothing scare him and he's literally willing to kick some ass if need be.
Bertolt would just take you somewhere else. Yes he's super annoyed and upset at this person, but he has better things to do with his time.
--------------------------------------------------
Y/n gets a dog
To be honest, you'd wanted a pet for a long long time. Living closely with seven other women- and essentially nine men, had made that prospect rather slim, until one day approximately four months ago when you dropped the question.
The response was rather positive, so you carefully crafted a schedule and supplies.
The little puppy had been the runt of the litter, but that didn't bother you one bit (your not so secret infatuation of a certain 5'2" raven haired fellow solidified that.)
You were the first person to arrive home that day, and when you did you hurried to get the house puppified.
Bertolt came by early that day and was the first to see the puppy. At first he wasn't so sure about the little rascal. It seemed so hyper, a little too hyper, actually. But then, it licked him and he fell in love. He actually completely forgot you were even there he was so enthralled.
Levi came by with takeout, and much like Bertolt he wasn't sure about this creature. He'd always been more of a cat person, but even then he wasn't exactly an animal person. Just too messy. But for your sake he pat the pup on the head. (And to both your and bertolt's shock the puppy began to follow Levi around.
Armin loved the puppy. He immediately scooped it up and sang to it. You had never seen the blonde so happy as he cooed over the little Beasty. He raised it up into the air and swung it until Levi yelled at him for waving the animal over the takeout.
Erwin seemed a bit indifferent to the dog, almost as if the animal had just always been there. He did make sure however to share his food with it.
Hange tickled the poor animal savagely, vowing to buy it a sweater for the winter. You told them they didn't have to, but they refused. "What's a godparent for?"
Sasha vowed to help feed it and promised it that she would only buy it the best food possible.
Marco adored the tiny thing. "have you named him yet?" He had asked while lovingly scratching behind it's ears. "he looks like a sugar...or a Coco?"
Connie immediately sat down and started playing with newly named Sugar. "Connie! You're getting Sugar too riled up." Levi warned, but right then Connie was attacked by the tiny pup, and despite the small size of the dog the sheer force almost knocked Connie over. "Tch, idiot."
Jean was the first to take Sugar for a walk and you joined him. Together the two of you laughed at how cute Sugar looked as he bounced around in the grass. You made sure to have Jean clean up after him though, don't worry.
Sugar immediately fell asleep on Eren who threatened anyone that would dare touch or wake up him. Eren was extremely content with this little ball of joy.
Annie wasn't really excited for the puppy but she did promise to train Sugar when it was time, so there's that.
Ymir tried to act similar to Annie but Ymir is a total dog person, and after a bit she scoped up Sugar and put the sleeping pup on her own lap.
Mikasa was just happy everyone else seemed happy. She did sit by ymir though so she could get a few good pats in.
Later that night Historia grabbed the puppy and took him into her room, which she shared with Ymir. Really this puppy wasn't yours, it was everyone's.
--------------------------------------------------
The AOT gang goes to a concert
You pulled into Eren's hand practically dragging him through the crowd. "That's the last time I'm letting you lead us anywhere, Eren!" He groaned behind you. "I thought the sign said Row one, it was an honest mistake!" You shot him a dangerous glare. "It was a sign for the bathroom!"
Finally you met up with your friends, who were all already comfortably seated, waiting for the concert to begin. "Hey guys sorry we're late, we had some...sign trouble."
You and Eren found your seats, "Good news is if anyone wants to know where the bathrooms are.." you elbowed your brunette friend.
When the concert began, it was immediately pretty damn hype. You and Jean clasped hands and danced together, shouting out the lyrics to the first song at the top of your lungs.
At the second song and Sasha took orders for food, and grabbed some grub. As you waited in the unnecessarily long line you pulled her into a hug and took a quick picture.
When you returned you stood by Reiner, but some big headed bastard had moved in front of your spot. So you climbed into Reiner's shoulders and screamed at the stage from your pretty impressive view.
Connie dared you to throw your bra on stage, but didn't actually think you'd do it. His face, and literally everyone around you, was priceless. In fact, you got a round of applause.
Hanje was video tapping about 90% of it, but they often drapped a hand around your shoulders and pulled you into the video, the two of you singing along to the musicians voice.
You and Levi held hands when a soft song came on, him pulling you into his chest at just the right note. You dipped your head into the chin, enjoying the soft thud of his heartbeat against the deep bass of the speakers. It was nice.
You face timed Bertolt, who unfortunately couldn't attend because he had "work". He enjoyed the concert better from that angle anyways.
You and Historia took a ton of pictures! So many! Some weren't even in focus! But you two didn't care!
Marco grabbed his phone light every chance he got and kept accidentally flashing it in people's eyes. He got you like seven times.
Erwin kept complaining that it was too loud, but you literally saw him full on do the sprinkler because he was vibing so hard.
You and Mikasa went to the bathroom together, and you forced her to take a picture with you. You also got lost on the way back but Mikasa helped guide you back. What would you do without her?
When you returned you ran into ymir and Historia dancing together, laughing and giggling. Damn them and their happiness.
After the show you and Armin went and met the people you watched and got a picture with them. They kept referring to Armin as your boyfriend so in the photo he looks like a tomato. He swore you to secrecy.
On the way back to the apartment you switched riders with Hanje so that she could take Eren home and you could just take Annie back to the apartment you shared. The whole way back you just let loose in the car. Annie could be very loud when with people she trusts entirely.
-------------------------------------------------
Y/n flirts with the AOT gang
Unfortunately for you y/n you're not the sad drunk, clumsy drunk, dancer drunk, you're the flirty drunk. I guess there are worse things, though. These are the times when drunk you has flirted with your friends and their reactions.
One time you got blasted at a work party and Eren had to come drive you home. He was shocked at first, but he truly does care about you and is also the most oblivious person ever so he was just like "okay."
Annie was super confused at first, but she actually really liked the attention. She'd never admit that to you though. So she just kinda bumped shoulders with you and almost knocked you down, had she not caught you.
Jean actually almost shit himself your flirting flustered him so bad. But he realized that you were drunk and immediately lifted you up and took you home.
Armin blushed, squeaked, and giggled. He knew you were drunk but he just couldn't help it. He helped you to bed and you fell asleep next to each other.
Sasha took you out to eat immediately after you said you wanted to go on a date with a hot babe like her, because she just needs one reason to go get something to munch on. It helped sober you up and when you puked she held your hair. Besties.
You did have a line though and you never actually flirted with Historia or Ymir but Ymir always took videos of you drunk and Historia always made sure to help you to bed. Those two were your constant watch dogs though when you were having fun.
Reiner "pretends" to go along with your flirting. He really just likes it because your hawt. "oh really? Tell me more about my eyes." He does however makes sure no one messes with you and always makes sure you get home safely.
When you get drunk around Mikasa the Ackerman always just pats you on the head. Sometimes though she makes fun of you.
Whenever you flirt with Connie hes also drunk so he flirts back. The two of you are the most chaotic drunk duo though and always end up breaking shit.
Erwin tells you to stop. "Stop that y/n, it's weird." But he's always blushing when he says that and he acts like a parent. "No, no more tequila!"
Hange will literally just have fun with drunk you. She'd vibe and even give you her glasses.
Marco would think it's really funny, but he'd stick with you for as long as he needs to to make sure you're okay and then he'll take you home.
Levi will look so annoyed and so done but he'll blush and wrap his fingers with yours. Much like Jean, he'll try to take you home as soon as possible. He gets jealous way too easily for this and often he'll stay the night with you.
Bertolt's brain literally melts. Reiner has to drag him away from you. You've broken the poor man.
--------------------------------------------------
They walk in on you changing
Annie- She opened the door and come in without even paying attention, realized you were essentially naked when you squealed. She rolls her eyes, and mutters "look the door next time," but that's a mental image she'll be keeping for a while.
Armin- he doesn't even allow himself a second peak, immediately putting his hand over his eyes. "Oh! I'm so sorry y/n! I-i-yeah!" He practically runs out of there faster than lightening.
Bertolt- He freezes, and you have to push him out. His brain dies and he stands outside your door for several minutes still trying to process.
Connie- he doesn't even notice you, but when you yell at him he simply turns and farts at you.
Eren- "If you were changing why didn't you lock the door?"
Erwin- "I'm sorry I thought this was the bathroom. Did you get a new book shelf?"
Hanje- She comes in, sees that your changing and puts a hand over her eyes, continuing to tell you what she wanted.
Jean- he puts his hands on his hips and smiles, "you knew I was coming, didn't you?"
Levi- he doesn't really care and neither do you (nothing he hasn't seen before) but he doesn't make sure to shut the door and wrap you on the head. "you have a lock, brat, use it."
Marco- opens door. "Whoops." Closes door. "Sorry y/n!"
Mikasa- "hey y/n," just continues.
Sasha had half a donut in her mouth when she walked in on you and then immediately it fell from her mouth when she turned and saw your body. she blinked and quickly bent over, grabbing her donut and covered her eyes, but only partially.
Reiner- "Hey, y/n I- Woah! Nice ra-" you effectively cut him off by throwing a shoe at his face.
Historia- "Oh! Sorry sweetie, you're so pretty, oh my goodness!"
Ymir- after storming in she proclaims, "Historia saw you naked, I have to kill you now."
--------------------------------------------------
They find you crying
We all have those days, and this is when they find you having one.
Ymir found you in the your bedroom, completely bundled in blankets with the lights shut off. She notices that you've been crying because your sniffing loudly, but says nothing about it. "Hey, Y/n, do you have the wifi password?"
She'd leave, but tell Historia, knowing Historia is better suited to check on and deal with helping you. Historia will walk in and raise her hands, in an open hug. You'll wordlessly scootch over and allow her to slide in beside you and gently pull you into her grasp.
Sasha heard you crying and grabbed her comfort snacks, a blanket, and the puppy. All of which she carried into your bedroom. The two of you would sit, eat, and watch some comfort shows. "it's the best medicine!"
Reiner saw your car parked outside the apartments and thought he'd knock on your car window. When he got up to your window though, he noticed the tears that were streaking down your face. He'd immediately climb into the other side of the car, hopping into the passenger seat. You're shocked, having not even noticed him hanging outside your car to begin with. "Uh, Reiner?" "So," he buckles up. "Who did it?"
Mikasa could hear you crying when she was up late at night, (your door had been open a crack.) So she grabbed some ice cream and two spoons, and wordlessly walked into your room. She said nothing and didn't press you for information, and the two of you shared Sasha's favorite ice cream.
Marco witnessed you go full on break down mode after a ROUGH day and immediately gave you the greatest pep talk known to man. You were so amazed at his genuinely kind words you stopped crying, but Marco had become so touched that he had started.
You had actually went to Levi's apartment, and sat with him. He made you tea and listened silently as you told him about what had happened and how sad you felt. He didn't press any advice on you or dry your tears with grandiose words, but he genuinely listened and acknowledged your feelings. Then you cuddled, and it was more than enough.
Jean said something flirty to you and for one reason or another it set you off and tears were aflowing. At first he panicked because he thought he made you cry. When he realized it wasn't him, he gently brought you into him and held you as you cried into his shirt. Finally you looked up at him and he wiggled his eyebrows mischievously, "Would sex make you feel better?"
You called Hanje and told what happened after a particularly rough day, so she and moblit went and grabbed you some takeout and spent the day with you. They even took you to egg the offenders house. Revenge is sweet.
Erwin thought you were sick, so he left after finding you crying in your room, bought you soup, made it and just acted like you were sick. You didn't have the heart to tell him the truth.
Eren saw you crying and then flicked you in the head and promptly left. You were stunned, but also found it funny and confusing, so you stopped crying.
Connie facetimed you and by the end you weren't crying because you were sad, but because Connie's really fucking stupid.
Bertolt noticed you were in your room for a while so he checked on you. He gave you a hug and then asked you very nicely to "stop crying."
Armin literally sat his ass down and stayed with you until the two of you fell asleep. He's a top tier friend who cares deeply about your emotional health so he does everything he can to sort you out. He holds your hand, nods, listens, gives you advice, and agrees with you.
Annie calls you a crybaby but she sits down beside you none the less. She doesn't press nor did she speak. But she wants you to know that's she's here in her own special Annie way.

Hello, can you do Dream Team fighting for Y/N? Have a good day 🌻💛
Mine [Dream Team]
OF COURSE!  I actually had a draft similar to this, but I was too lazy to finish it so this is basically that one shot. And I don’t really know if you wanted it to be like friends or a polyamorous thing, so I just made it a bit of both. Like really close friends that could be misinterpreted as a relationship.
⚠️CUSSING, MAINLY PLAYFUL FIGHTING⚠️ Pronouns: they/them
“[Nickname]!” Sapnap groaned, walking out of his room, his shoulders slumped forward as he reached his arms out toward you. “Gogy’s being mean-”
“Sapnap, go away!” Dream yelled, cuddled up to you as you watched Gravity Falls on the TV. “It’s my time for [Y/N] right now! Go back to streaming!” The blond frowned, burying his face in the crook of your neck as Dipper let out a girly scream when Grunkle Stan walked into the bathroom.
You laughed, leaning your head on Dream’s head. Sapnap pouted, crossing his arms as he walked back to his room.
““That was a little mean, Dream,” you yawned, eyes not once moving from the TV, “Once this episode’s done, it’s Sapnap’s turn for cuddles, alright?” Dream groaned, pulling away from you to pout. ““You’ve been hogging me for two hours, Dream. Usually it’s one.”
““Fine,” Dream dragged out, tilting his head back as you smiled cheekily. You placed a kiss on his cheek and he instantly brightened up, kissing your cheek just as the episode’s end credits rolled.
“Sapnap! Come here, bud!” You called as Dream made his way to his room to, most likely, do some YouTube stuff. The teen came running down the stairs, hurrying over to you with a grin on his face.
“[Y/N]!” He shouted, settling on the couch and wrapping you in a tight hug. ““I stopped streaming as soon as possible!” He placed a kiss on your forehead, accompanied by several more all over your face, his grin never faltering as he pulled you onto his lap.
//
““Sapnap, it’s my turn!” George yelled from the top of the stairs as soon as an hour had passed. ““I wanna watch TV with them!”
“Blame Dream! He had them for two hours!” George gasped and turned to Dream’s room, hurrying into it to start yelling at the speed runner.
““This is kind of unfair,” you murmured as the next episode began rolling, the theme song of Gravity Falls playing in the background of your conversation. ““As soon as George gets his-”
“[Y/N]! Dream’s fighting with me!” George screamed from Dream’s room, causing both you and Sapnap to jump in surprise. You wiggled out of the hug he had been holding you in, rushing up the stairs and into where both Dream and George were. You opened the door, stopping in the doorway when you saw they were only bickering, accompanied by the occasional smack.
“Oh my goodness, you two,” you rubbed your temples, ““You know what? Fuck today, nobody’s getting alone time for a week. All of you,” you raised your voice so that Sapnap could hear, ““Make sure to be in bed by seven or I swear, I’ll make the time two weeks. Come on.”
Dream hurried and flopped onto his bed, curling up in his blankets and rolling himself up. Sapnap ran up the stairs and toward his room, while George scampered out of Dream’s room and into his own.
You sighed, turning around and closing the door as you walked back to the living room, unpausing the TV to continue watching Gravity Falls.
//
““This is all your fault, Dream,” Sapnap nearly yelled as he sat up in his bed, ““if you didn’t hog them for two hours, we all would have been cuddled with them!”
““Yeah! I didn’t even get any time with them!” George agreed, ““Dream, how dare you?”
““Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t feeling too well today-”
“If you were feeling well you could have just told us!” Sapnap’s voice got a bit too loud and any noise from the living room stopped. The call went silent and footsteps could be heard, though they grew faint in the direction of your room. The three let out relieved sighs, though they were too soon as they all got a notification.
MY BELOVED:
My room now. No complaints.
“We’re fucked.” Sapnap gulped nervously.
“This is your fault, Sapnap!”
“Oh my god, shut up! We’re fucked, George!”

on the school dance fallout or, a thorough examination of the boys’ apologies to julie
full disclosure, i used to take serious issue with 1.06 for what it did to julie’s righteous anger in light of the boys letting her down, and my gripes haven’t fully gone away. but i have spent some time thinking on the fallout since my first (several) viewing(s) of the show and i finally noticed some emotionally nuanced storytelling that i needed time to come to appreciate. so, if you’ll indulge me another gif-filled meta post...
everyone knows that a good apology demonstrates an understanding of how you wronged the person you’re apologizing to, otherwise the words i’m sorry end up being fairly empty. and luckily for the boys, julie does a good job of immediately and effectively communicating her hurt feelings:
Tumblr media
the first part is directed at luke specifically as her main co-writer, while the rest is about how all three of them let her down. it couldn’t be more clear that the reason she’s so betrayed is that a) they’ve made her feel like julie and the phantoms is less important to them than sunset curve and b) they’ve failed to consider her point of view or empathize with how important the show was to her.
which is why singing sorry a bunch of times, though charming, leaves her unmoved. and it’s why booking another gig actually makes her angrier. a gig the boys have deemed important enough to show up for is not a present or an olive branch to her, it’s a slap in the face. and if the boys had actually been paying attention to what she’d said the night of the dance, they could have anticipated her reaction.
but they clearly haven’t listened, so they haven’t learned how to do better or make things right. which is why this is such an important beat in the scene in the studio:
Tumblr media
hounding julie to rejoin the band, even with such nice sentiments as “you’re the best thing that’s happened to us since we became ghosts”, does nothing to address how undervalued julie feels getting stood up because, as she points out above, their ability to do what they love is very limited without her. that makes her a powerful and essential member of the band, but it doesn’t prove that they care about her, julie, the person. and you can see in the reaction shot how the truth of her words lands for all of them.
their remorseful silence gives julie the opportunity to reiterate one of the points she made the night before, and it’s important to note which part of her hurt feelings she chooses to revisit.
Tumblr media
the fact that they made the choice to pay more attention to their old music in spite of the music they were creating together is the thing that hurt her feelings the most. and, of course, her open hostility and her imagined reasons for why the boys picked sunset curve over julie and the phantoms (i.e. selfishness) puts luke on the defensive and ends with everyone leaving the scene dissatisfied.
great! okay, so here’s the part that’s bugged in the past (and the present, just. a little less so.) — in their attempt to deescalate the situation, alex and reggie give julie, and the audience, the all-important luke backstory. but like asking julie to rejoin the band with a shinier gig than a school dance flies in the face of actually making amends, so, too, does asking julie to empathize with luke’s emotional journey when the boys failed to take julie’s into account when they hurt her. only this time, it works as an olive branch.
now, i’m not saying that julie’s acting out of character in being sympathetic to luke’s pain, quite the opposite is the case. and i’m also not saying it’s bad that she does find sympathy for his situation — again, i’d argue that the opposite is true. it’s just, at the same time, it’s not a good look to force aside the young woman of color’s hurt in service of the white dude who hurt her feelings in the first place’s tragic backstory. the narrative is asking julie not to be mad at the choices luke made in the past two episodes because he’s really sad, actually.
and sure that’s an ungracious read of the moment, but i stand by the fact that it’s present in the text of the episode all the same, even with a little more nuance than i’m currently giving it credit for.
all that being said, alex and reggie do a bit to win back this highly insensitive maneuver with another stab at an apology.
Tumblr media
alex addresses julie’s comment about them knowing “how tough it’s been for her to play” by reiterating that not showing up let her down and they get that that’s a crappy way to feel, while reggie takes a crack at julie’s “our songs were good” by emphasizing that they all love being in a band and making music with her. it’s a slight step up from their sorry in the garage, but not a complete fix because they’re all still sitting with the fact that they need julie to make the most of their music and how that complicates their declarations of loyalty.
the thing that makes this attempt at reconciliation different than those prior, of course, is this line:
Tumblr media
the acknowledgement that things haven’t been fixed + the politeness + the implication that they’re willing to put in the time to earn her trust back so long as she lets them makes the apology a good enough one to accept. well, that, and:
Tumblr media
one gets the sense that if rose could actually speak to julie in that moment, she’d be reminding her the value of grace. and, of course, we know that this also serves as a reminder to julie that good things are fleeting, loss is around every corner, and holding close what you care about is important. so she does just that by letting go of her (righteous, righteous) anger and reuniting the band.
still, even though alex and reggie have had their chance to make amends, luke doesn’t get the same moment to show he’s actually paid attention to julie’s needs in 1.06. so, naturally, he starts immediately in their first scene together in 1.07.
i mentioned in my exhaustive list for “finally free” that julie picking a sunset curve song for their reunion number is a lovely, understated way for her acknowledge luke’s lost musical legacy, and i have similar feelings about the fact that luke suggests “edge of great” for their follow-up gig. it’s his first step in proving to her that he does care about the music they’ve written together with actions instead of empty apologies and misguided gestures.
by the end of the episode, though, the three of them take a step back (reggie gets points for his being, like, half a step) when they learn that, in addition to letting down julie, one of the consequences of their night chasing revenge is a ticking clock on their existence.
Tumblr media
though i understand the urge to protect julie from the alarming news that their power is going out, there’s also a lot of selfishness behind the decision. julie loses them in the end no matter what, but lying to her about it and planning to leave without an explanation shows a disregard for her emotional journey in a similar way standing her up did. in fact, this plan is basically to stand her up for eternity. not cool, guys.
naturally, since it’s luke who’s the one proposing the terrible plan and it’s luke who never officially demonstrated his understanding of how he hurt julie’s feelings by not showing up when it mattered, it’s fitting that he’s suddenly more in tune with his own feelings. and, with that, comes a new awareness of how his and julie’s feelings interact, starting with this moment in 1.08.
Tumblr media
you can see his conflict over her declaration. she’s worried without knowing just how much there is to be worried about, and that makes him sad because it’s confirmation of the fact that he’s important to her. that losing him will mean a lot of pain for her. but instead of cluing her in, he makes a conscious choice to continue withholding the information of his imminent departure. and maybe it’s such a weak deflection because he’s already starting to come to terms with how unfair he’s being to her, but even so, he’s not being a good friend when julie is showing up for him in big, unexpected ways he’d never even thought to ask for.
and again, here —
Tumblr media
— just after they’ve acknowledged that there’s a something and not a nothing between them, you can see him sober with the thought that she doesn’t know they’re about to lose each other. but it’s still not enough to move him to share. maybe because he prefers that she live with the possibility of that something when he no longer can, maybe because he’s too caught up in his own feelings about how crappy this hand they’ve been dealt by the universe is. but in any case, he keeps tight-lipped.
UNTIL.
Tumblr media
it’s seeing her excited about a future their music can’t have that finally pushes him into coming clean. and i love how subtly this demonstrates that he has been paying attention, actually, and he knows that what hurt julie the most was the feeling that their music took a backseat to his past. if he crosses over without telling her the whole, ugly truth about the mistake he made by standing her up, then he crosses over stuck in that mistake. because part of that whole, ugly truth is the beautiful realization that no music is worth making, julie, if we’re not making it with you. and he’s not quite at that particular aspect of his truth yet — he still has to experience the what if of caleb’s club to be able to make the declaration with the conviction he does — but when he finally does tell her that and means it, she’s given the catharsis she’s needed since the dance. because he’s backing up his apology with action (i.e. being willing to literally no longer exist instead of making music with someone else) and providing her with the same consideration she showed him when she rejoined the band because his loss felt more important than her anger. and reaching that level of give and take in their relationship, physically represented in their hug, finally sets them free.
so, yes. even though 1.06 is clunky and a little tasteless at times, i can acknowledge that the story manages to win any missteps back. quite poetically, honestly. all’s forgiven.

‘The work which becomes a new genre itself will be called COWBOY BEBOP’
Tumblr media
(No spoilers, really as much pitch as review)
I finally did it. My first anime, my first TV show at all in months: Cowboy Bebop, 1998, one season, untold influence.
This is probably the most objectively cool thing I’ve ever watched, which is funny as before I just sought out this knowledge directly from the right people in my life, I had something drafted to post here that ran essentially "Alright, which of you nerds can tell me what version of Cowboy Bebop I’m supposed to watch."
Because if you’re in the non Japanese-speaking world, you’ve got options: the original Japanese voice cast with subtitles, or a dubbed version with American voice actors. Watching a dub goes against every one of my instincts, but as one friend told me with charmingly abrupt solemnity in a park: “It’s considered the best English anime dub of all time.” Well, that’s something. And as my local advisor @starlingshrike elaborated, the American cast also appreciably includes Black actors, appropriately reflecting the 1990s anime rarity of Cowboy Bebop’s racial diversity.
All that said though, there’s just something about an original isn’t there, watching a piece of art as it was first created, with an Asian cast that is also highly regarded. Really selling herself as my Bebop Virgil right from the start, Katie concluded that they’re tonally really similar, so one could definitely ping between the two editions to compare. And after four episodes, I knew I was just going to metronome through the whole thing like that—both worlds, baby!
Okay sure but what IS this show?, you’re asking. Well let’s give that a whirl: Cowboy Bebop (カウボーイビバップ) is an experimental space western jazz noir, following a gradually expanding crew of perpetually broke and hungry misfit bounty hunters in the 2070s. Their ship is called the Bebop, the structure is episodic, and while there’s seemingly no genre type the show can’t ably fold into their riff, at the core there’s always this distinctive, casually forlorn vibe to it all, maybe best conveyed by the most frequent end title card, which you’ve probably seen before:
Tumblr media
You see what I mean? It’s cool, it’s just…it’s cool.
The opening credits are to a song called ‘Tank!’, which just sounds like a song that should be called ‘Tank!’, and I was grateful this was all on Hulu in the U.S. so I never had to be insulted by Netflix asking if I wanted to skip them. No I do not, 3, 2, 1 let’s jam. The sharp, kinetic vibrancy of the opening evenly slides into the way the show can be violent at times, which is exactly as a Watchman-esque graphic novel is violent: that ropey look to blood spray, the way a face might go smooshy at an impact, stylized close-ups, very storyboarded.
The closing credits, meanwhile, are to a song called ‘The Real Folk Blues’, a big & mournful Japanese track where just the title is crooned in English, forever tricking me into trying to sing along. I listened to it play over its hazy, watercolor-y black & white backstory montage a thousand times as I always wanted to catch both takes of the next episode previews, which much like this ending montage, also never clearly reveal anything, though that’s because the Cowboy Bebop promos are the greatest submission to the art form I’ve seen since Mad Men.
These ones are deliberately fucking with you though, most including several of the characters just going on squabbling tangents and never getting to any real information, or in some cases straight up lying to you. One of them is nearly entirely in dog barks. Another soon devolves into a character delivering this literal VO, which honestly I should have recognized as a sign that episode would turn out to be one of my very favorites: “...Well, actually the story doesn’t go anywhere. At first glance, it’s pointless. The actions are on a small scale, and the ending is forced. But then again, what conclusions will you draw from it?”
Which brings me to my next point about the tone: it’s so…elliptical. Little of this show’s overarching mythologies are ever really explained, and yet, you still get it. In this and other ways, I do think what director Shinichirō Watanabe was doing with Cowboy Bebop is much closer to David Lynch than a lot of things that try to claim that nearness. As something like Lynch's Twin Peaks, it works in symbolism and half-understood touchstones, and this kind of storytelling of introspection. Dreamy, individual, shared with us but not spelled out. So many of these episodes feel sort of like a dream, like a sort of vignette, where you aren’t always certain how you’ve gotten here, and you aren’t quite sure what this important thing this character just said means exactly, but it has still hit you like a seismic shift in the emotional landscape of this world.
Meanwhile, anchoring its spot in its sci-fi show lineage, Cowboy Bebop fully embraces the scrappy workaday fantasy of space domesticity, a top tier enchantment for me. They also maintain even in entirely unconstrained animated form the original Star Trek precedent that 50% of other planets just look like the desert outside of Los Angeles—tradition! It's certainly not all stars and deserts though, as the style pulls from so many different artistic traditions across both the East and the West. I am not a designer yet I want to be a designer and be assigned just one specific episode of Cowboy Bebop I get to work on. The little drifting spores falling on the minarets on terraformed Venus...the high contrast Batman metropolis of 'Pierrot Le Fou'...that empty city back on shattered Earth with the lion fountain and the palms...
I mean this show is so visually striking. We see a lot of different environments, but they all feel lived in, like there really are people there, getting their clutter places. And the people themselves! They all have such looks. This could likely be an anime thing I’m just now being introduced to, but the proportions here are just so incredibly ambling to look at. Everyone’s legs are like 1.75 times the length of the rest of their body, which really lands somewhere between sexy and dorky.
Oh here’s the Bebop crew by the way, which comes together over the first nine episodes:
Tumblr media
Jet / Jetto
In spaceship show function and demeanor, Jet Black is both Bones and Scotty poured into the mold of Papa Bear, and obviously I love that. It’s his ship, and when not chasing bounties he’s usually either cooking, patching Spike up, tending to his bonsais, or grousing at Faye for bringing her little fighter jet back all smashed up for him to fix. At one point he describes himself as having to "raise Ein," the dog, and I about lost it at how Dad that phrasing was. Please bring that dog up well.
Voice cast preference: I’m pretty even on this one! American Jet is grumbly rumbly and that’s good, but Japanese Jetto has more drawn-out melody, and that’s very good as well. I can tell you I do like hearing characters call him Jetto better 100 percent—love an o.
Tumblr media
Spike / Supaiku
Our Romantic lead and titular Space Cowboy of the end card, Spike Spiegel is a talented fighter and lackadaisically lonely bastard who in nearly every other episode finds himself in some fatalistic scenario where he just rests a cigarette in his mouth and shrugs, welp, guess I’ll die. He frequently complains to Jet that their ship has been overrun by dogs, children, and women with attitudes. Yes Spike & Jet are space roommates. Do with that what you will—please.
Voice cast preference: I think I’m gonna give the edge to American Spike, that is uh, a good voice. “Yup American Spike hot,” as I updated Katie. I do like Japanese Supaiku very much as well though, who has this smooth, river rock woefulness that really anchors some of my favorite Spike episodes, many of which I spent with him.
Tumblr media
Faye / Fei
Haha well I’ve written myself into a trap here, because the point of Faye Valentine is that we really don’t know what her deal is at first, especially as it seems she keeps changing her story. She’s aloof, but also keeps hanging around anyway—I’m inclined to describe her as like a stray cat with money problems. I really love that the grungy ship bathroom becomes like, *her* space. Most of the best character growth is Faye stuff.
Voice cast preference: It’s Japanese Fei no contest. An endearingly improvisational quality to her delivery, she feels very much like a real girl, which is wild given how, well, wild her character and circumstances are. American Faye’s hot girl sass took longer to grow on me, though eventually she did too as her performance deepened with the character.
Tumblr media
Ed / Edo
I’m looking forward to how this sentence is gonna go: so the gang has an episode about a new addition to the Nazca lines that leads them to tracking down an infamous hacker named Radical Edward—who turns out to be a nonbinary 13-year-old with the full chosen name of Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivruski the IV. “Ed made up that name for Ed, isn’t it cool?” As befalls Spike & Jet with every member of their forced-family, they can’t manage to shake this weirdo off, so Ed joins the ship as well, where she takes to floating along behind Jet loosely latched to his shoulders like a zero-gravity buoy, and no actually I never did figure out the rules for how the artificial gravity works on the Bebop. It works on aesthetic principles, I think.
Voice cast preference: It’s tipping toward Japanese Edo for me, though I actually feel these two voice actors might be hitting the most similar cadence in their respective performances, which is like, BIG whimsy.
Tumblr media
Ein / Ain
Ein is an outrageously valuable scientifically enhanced Welsh corgi, and this may be a slight spoiler for the second episode, but none of them know this, they just think he’s a dog they’ve ended up with with no greater importance, and this is the kind of joke in this show that makes me laugh for days.
Voice cast preference: I swear they have different voice actors for the barks but Wikipedia is not backing me up here.
And then there’s also these recurring Red Dragon Syndicate characters, all Spike's constellation, who show up in a handful of episodes over the course of the season, but I think those are best just doled out to you as they come. The fifth episode in particular is worth it to just suddenly ~experience~ everything that's going on with its particular genre swing.
Besides, while the Syndicate stuff does form the most overarching backbone in terms of plot, also like, does it though? I’d honestly argue that the more philosophical concept of the past’s influence on the present has more bearing on the manner and material of this show than anything specific that happened with Vicious or Julia. One of the most interesting things to me about how this show works that it would be possible to totally change the details of Spike’s backstory and still have the series run pretty much the same way, because what matters is how his haunting works in the present, not actually sorting out what created it in the past. Katie proposes, and I think she’s dead on here, that the true emotional climax of the series is actually the end of the episode that comes right before the two-part finale. The reason why I think this is so right, is that moment is all to do with how the characters’ grappling with the past is affecting each other right now, and for really the first time seems to turn forward-looking, to ask them to now grapple with what they see in front of them. It’s an incredible moment, transformative and open-ended, open-ended because it's transformative.
All of which is not to say that the actual finale of the series isn’t a huge tune as well. A different conclusion style, there’s a resolving sense of cosmic closure to it, with an all-timer of a final note.
Wow I have written so much about the ending of this show just now all without touching the plot, huh! Well hey hopefully this will work on people—join me in anime outer space.
See You Cowgirl, Someday, Somewhere!

RWBY Vol8 Finale Review
Okay so I just wanna say right away that this review would’ve been out sooner, but the ending credit song is watch pushed me over the edge and made me cry. So I’m little drained.
Tumblr media
Of course the episode starts off with Salem finally coming back. Honestly I’m shocked. She’s only been gone for a little over an hour I believe. That’s way faster than I thought considering the blast she was hit with.
Tumblr media
90% of this episode is fighting which I’m perfectly happy with, so breaking down scenes is a little scarce and far apart. But I will say I like a bunch of the fighting. I thought James’s gun was stupid, but then he swung while detaching one pistol to pistol whip Winter and I’ll admit it, I said “yoooo!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay...the Ace Ops stuff is probably the biggest thing I’m “meh” on. I totally get what they’re going for and I’m actually one of the few people who likes Harriet, but this scene fell pretty flat for me. We barely see the Ace Ops interact with one another that isn’t them threatening RWBY or talking about following orders. Like I never had any doubts that they do in fact care about each other beyond a coworker level but the show didn’t really show that. It would’ve been nice if despite them saying they aren’t friends several times, CRWBY added gentler moments with one another.
Like if Harriet calms Elm down on the way to to whale, Vine senses Marrow’s uneasiness and pulls him aside to tell him that he’ll watch Marrow’s back and they’ll talk when the job is done. It could’ve been neat if Harriet was about to move and scream Marrow’s name right before Ironwood shoots, but Winter was a step ahead. Just little things like that to show these characters really do value one another and don’t actually buy the crap their selling about being completely professional. Plenty of real life military soldiers will tell you that like it or not, it is impossible not to learn the life of their teammates and essentially become family when they’re overseas. Even if they don’t necessarily like a certain individual.
Tumblr media
I actually didn’t expect Cinder to betray Neo this episode until Neo fell off the ledge. I thought we were building to Cinder valuing having people as teammates to raise hell instead of looking at them as pawns. To an extent she still does, but I guess it’s more of she has to work well with people and use actual teamwork in general, not with specific individuals. Power of teamwork yes. Power of friendship, no....
Tumblr media
Cinder gets bonus points in my book for doing what most don’t, cut Blake’s ribbon! I’m so used to anime tropes letting heroes recover that I wasn’t expecting a genuine good play.
Tumblr media
So I’ve said she was going to die ever since she came back, then I said it when she hacked, and one more time she was human. I never had faith she’d make it through the volume. So when I tell that it still broke my heart to see this. I never wanted her go. Penny is like my second favorite character. I’m a bit surprised Cinder didn’t get the power. This is the second time she’s nabbed Penny. I would assume she has at least a bit of the power though.
Tumblr media
Winter really did become the Winter maiden. We were right from the start. I do like that Penny choosing how she wanted to die and who to give the powers to mirrors Winter’s conversation with Weiss in V7 a bit about being roped into something but still gaining the control to actually choose how go about the situation by deciding the terms.
Tumblr media
Skipping ahead a bit because once again, I was just floored by the fights. Next real thing that really hit me hard was so many people think other people are dead for varying reasons, and only some of them are true. I do not know how Ren and Nora especially are going to cope with hearing Jaune fell. That’s their second teammate. Out of those two, Oscar, and Emerald, I don’t think any want to or fit to lead as a new team of four. Maybe Nora really will step up and kick off the active part of her self discovery. Then there’s Winter. Maybe she’ll keep them together. If anything I hope her and Whitley finally have this genuine moment because they think they lost their sister. And who knows, maybe to a certain level Jacques dying as well conflicts them in a way because they didn’t love him but it’s still a shock he’s dead. Like I’m pretty sure for Whitley at least that the hate for his father didn’t run deep enough to wish him dead. Pietro is gonna die of broken heart and I don’t know how Qrow or Tai will react. Hopefully Raven gets involved.
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, I thought the crash was anticlimactic and Ironwood among others could still be alive, but then the rushing water came....
I am shocked nobody actually killed James. Pretty sure he’s dead though. Just like how Arthur burned to death which is by far the most unsettling thing this show has done period. Even though the villains lost members, it doesn’t really feel like they lost at all. Especially when the ones who died were killed by their own people basically.
All in all I really liked this finale. I’m relieved the reason team RWBY fell wasn’t because they jumped after Yang because that’s not risk people should take and would be a middle finger to everyone they leave behind. Wasn’t expecting Jaune to fall. That’s nuts. Not mad about it. Now he has to explain to Ruby that he personally stabbed Penny on request. Like good lord, he’s not going to cope. The only saving grace I personally have is CRWBY might be nice to me and the path towards comforting certain characters may lead down a path with Lancaster or Whiteknight at the end of it. I’m not gonna hold my breath. Can’t believe we lost Nuts n Dolts twice...
Also Neo might wanna kill Cinder more than Ruby now.
