The blindfold was tight against her eyes and she frowned asshe tried to figure out where he was taking her. The seat-belt was snug and secure, and he heldher hands her lap, stopping her from lifting the blind fold.

“No peaking Darcy Elizabeth, I mean it.”

“We’ve been driving forever? Where the hell are we going?”

“If I told you Doll, it wouldn’t be a surprise.”

Bucky’s voice is laced with amusement and he gives her handsa gentle squeeze. She clucks her tongue inirritation, but she’s actually pretty excited.

Dating Bucky Barnes, there was never a dull moment. They’d been together for six months now, shestill couldn’t believe she was lucky caught to have caught his interest. She wasso silly in love with hm she’d get in a car in the middle of the night and lethim blindfold her first.

When the car finally stops the sudden cut of the engine plungesthem into silence. From the lack ofsound, she knows they’re nowhere in the city. She hears the car door open and his boots hit gravel before the doorcloses.

Opening the passenger door for her, he helps her outcarefully.

“Okay, can I take it off now?” she whines as he wraps an arm around her waist, leading her carefullyover what feels like grass.

“Just be patient. Notlong now.” She can hear him smiling andcan’t help the smile that graces her own face in response. The air smells freshand cool, the scent of trees and grass heavy in the air.

“You remember we were talking about moving out of the city?” he asks, suddenly, lifting her up bridalstyle.

“Bucky? What is goingon?” Her belly is full ofbutterflies. What is he up to?

When he puts her down again her feet touch a wooden deck.

“Okay, are you ready?”

She nods at the question and feels him use careful fingersto untangle the knot at the back of her head, letting the blindfold slip free.

When she blinks the darkness away and looks around she holdsher breath. They’re high up, the lightsfrom the city, far in the distance, just a glow on the horizon really. She’s standing on a pretty wooden deck, there’sa table off to one side and chairs and a bottle of some face wine sheremembers they ordered on their first date, cools in a bucket.

She looks at him in question, unable to say a word.

“I think this is the first time since we met that you’vebeen lost for words.” He grins down ather, pulling her into his body.

“Bucky, what is all this?”

He turns her round and points to the area behind thedeck. There’s little stakes driven intothe ground and twine marking out a foundation and rooms.

“I bought the land a while back with the back pay from thegovernment. Got an architect to sort outthe plans. Break ground on it tomorrow. Thought maybe, if you wanted, this could beour place. Our home.”

Darcy is still lost for words when he suddenly drops to oneknee. She knows what’s coming, but itdoesn’t make it any less fantastical as he proposes to her.

Her heart beat rushing in her ears, headdizzy. He’s kneeling at her feet,looking up at her, nerves plain on his face and she stands there, mouth open,hand clamped over it. All she can do isnod frantically. His smile lights up hisface and she feels tears swimming in her eyes as he places the ring on her finger.

He stands and pulls her close as she wraps her arms aroundhis neck, seeking kisses and reassurance that all of this is real. He doesn’t disappoint, kissing her till she’sbreathless and a high tinkling laugh breaks it way out of her.

“I love you.” She finallymanages to whisper into his mouth between kisses.

“I love you too, Doll.”

They sit on the deck drinking wine and he pulls out theplans for the house. They drink and talkand bicker over rooms and spaces and she snuggles in his lap, content andsafe. It’ll be nice out here, among thetrees, away from the busy city and the constant noise. The moon is high overhead and she’s more thana little tipsy when he asks her to dance.

She falls into his hold easily, dancing barefoot on the deck,nothing but his voice singing softly in her ear. She feels at home already. Can picture their future in her minds eye. A housewith a deck and big garden, with enough room for a couple of kids and dog. She’s not missed that there’s five bedroomsin the plans, but she doesn’t bring it up, she doesn’t need to because shewouldn’t have it any other way. So shesnuggles close, head resting on his broad chest and closes her eyes as hekisses her hair. It’s not the life sheexpected before she met Bucky, or even before she met Jane, but it’s the oneshe wants, the one she needs. She knows itdeep in her bones that this is where she belongs, dancing in his arms in themoonlight, forever.
