Owltober Day 8 : Parallel

I'm a little disappointed in how this one came out but it'll do, I might try to redo it after Inktober

Owltober Day 8: Valvonauts AU

I said I'd do some pictures of Scout in various minds-- So here's three minds my friends asked for. Gordon's Gauntlet (Aka Freeman's Mind), Misha's Misery (Aka Heavy's Mind), and Tavish's Night Terrors (AKA Demoman's Mind).

Also, a default Scout for reference. I'm aware he should have bandages on his hands all the time but please consider: I am lazy /lh

A few notes for each are under the cut.

Default Scout: I wanted to keep his look as a mix between Scout and Raz, so. Bag, hat's changed up, not much else big.

Gordon's Gauntlet: I tried to mimic the HEV suit! I know it should have sleeves, but I decided to make it a running gag that Scout will rip off the sleeves of almost any shirt he's in-- In this mind, it'd take 'til Gordon removes them for him. Also, the marking on the suit is his emblem in TF2.

Misha's Misery: I wanted it to look a bit like he was given a wool coat! Also, the shorts are because I was thinking about the look of someone who's castaway, and thought that cutting his pants off would work for that. The glasses are because Heavy's mind has some library vibes as well.

Tavish's Night Terrors: He's dressed partially like someone from Celtic lore, as that's a common theme in Tavish's story, but also the sword is entirely because hehe Eyelander reference. The piano key edging on the tunic is because he plays piano!

Thing you wished the show focused more on: Willow Park (and whether she and Amity are officially friends again)

I loved almost everything about season 2A...except for one thing.

Where’s Willow?!?!

The lack of Willow episodes/scenes in this season saddened me. I could include Gus in this, but at least he had his own story line in one of the episodes (granted, most fans mainly cared about the lumity plot line). But Willow had no story line focused on her like we had in season 1 (Understanding Willow and Wing It Like Witches).

Willow is such an amazing and interesting character. She is a good and kind character, but can also kick your butt with her plant magic if you threaten her loved ones and friends. We have seen the other main characters’ powers grow this season (especially Amity in “Escaping Expulsion” and “Eclipse Lake”). But I am dying to see an epic fight scene between Willow and whoever dares to fight her.

Additionally, I really want the show to tackle Willow’s complicated relationship with Amity. “Understanding Willow” ended with Amity declaring to make things right and not let Boscha and the rest of the gang bullied Willow anymore. Willow said they still weren’t friends, but it was a start.

While Willow and Amity have worked together to save Luz in different situations (playing grudgby against Boscha’s team, saving her from getting killed by the Abomaton 2.0), we still haven’t received any direct confirmation that Willow and Amity are officially friends again.

All I ask for season 2B is to see Willow in more episodes, and also give us at least one Willow focused episode. Lastly, a scene where either Willow or Amity acknowledge each other as friends. Just so we the fans know that Willow has truly forgiven Amity and they are friends again, instead of them just being friendly toward each other for Luz’s sake (Luz being Willow’s best friend and Amity’s girlfriend).

Owltober Day 8: Favorite Background Character

I wasn’t entirely sure what qualified as a background character, but I decided to go with Tiny Nose. There’s really no particular reason I like Tiny Nose, I just love it when the creators of shows voice characters within them. It’s almost like a little Easter egg. I’m a big fan of Tiny Nose solely because I’m a big fan of Dana. I think it’s hilarious that she decided to voice this spherical walking face with a huge nose that loves conspiracy theories. Fight against the oppwessor!

Owltober day 8: thing you wished the show focused more on

That's hard to say, since I think it's doing fine so far, and the best excuse for the "rushed" pacing is the show being cut short.

But I, like other people, wish the show focused more on Willow and Gus like they did in season 1. They're Luz's first real friends, and they're powerful witches. They deserve more attention.

I've already reblogged two posts talking about more Willow content, so I won't say anything else about that.

Instead, I'll just say I kinda want to see more of how the classes work at Hexside, or just in the schools in general.

I'd especially like to see more of potions, since I have a degree in chemistry and would be interested to see how that all works.

Owltober Day 8: Things You Wished the Show Focused More On

In season 1 I would've said Eda being a teacher to Luz. "Adventure in the Elements" is one of my favorite episodes because we get to see Eda be a teacher. I would've loved more episodes of her teaching Luz like that or if she helped Luz discover the plant glyph in the beginning of the Grom episode.

Season 2 has been non stop with moving the plot forward, and I get that, especially with season 3 getting shortened. However, for the sake of the post, I'll say I wished it focused more on Luz, Amity, Willow and Gus as friends. Willow has been pushed to the sidelines this season, Luz and Amity had a lot a moments together, and Gus had great development...in one episode. I'd love it if all four could hang out as friends and not split up at the beginning of the episode. Have them all over at the Owl House with Luz answering their questions about the human realm, or practicing magic, having fun with their Palismans, anything!

Owltober Day 8: Something You Wished The Show Focused On More

.The Clawthorne's and their relationships with each other. Now don't take this as me saying Keeping up Affearances was lazy, I love that episode but seriously. Lilith deserved to stay longer as having her and Eda interact was great and only having them be together for four episodes was just sad.

We didn't even get to see Lilith tell Gwendolin she was the one who cursed Eda, It all happened off screen which for Titan's sake is a such a cop out. We see how guilty Lilith feels and just imagine her admitting to her Mother that she is the cause of the pain her Daughter has lived through for decades, You just know Lilith broke down doing it cause there is no way she did that without crying.

That would have been a scene! One of the best and yet they cut it off screen which is sad. I know Dell is probably going to show up in S2b and Gwen and Lilith too maybe but still. I love all their interactions and I love a family who has some issues with each other but still love each other and I wish I saw more of it.

Owltober Day 8!

Favorite Background Character!

Tiny Nose! Who’s name I didn’t know for the longest time and referred to as Bill Cypher’s depressed cousin! She’s one of the very few fleshed out background characters and even appears in the intro! I would love to see a scene between her and Hooty just for the sheer terrorizing shenagins that would happen.

Honorable mention goes to that kid who cheers for Willow during the training session of Wing it Like Witches. I don’t know his name but I’ve dubbed him Hades in my head because of the comic I mentioned yesterday. He’s got the flower while Willow wrecks shit.

Rose City Comic Con 2017

We’re a month out so now’s a good time to remind folks that I’ll be at Rose City Comic Con in Portland from September 8-10! I’ll be located at table A-03 in the Artist Alley. I’m excited to visit the northwest again and share a whole new fleet of tiny paintings and zines with you guys :)

Owltober Day 8: Thing You Wished the Show Focused More On

For the most part, I’ve been very pleased with the content of the second season. One thing that I would enjoy seeing more of is the home life of some side characters, especially Amity. We did get one episode that focused on Amity’s parents, and while I did love that episode, it felt incomplete and like it needed a follow up episode. I wouldn’t mind seeing more home life scenes of other side characters, too: Willow, Hunter, maybe even Boscha or a different bully. Unfortunately, we probably won’t have time for that. Because Disney is a bitch.
