The Bumbleby merch is . . . sold out?

As much as I love the ship didn't we agree not to send funds to RT? While there's evidence that the first 6 episodes were animated in July 2022 in the first v9 trailer (before the October controversy) and thus the kiss itself wasn't pushed to save the company, RT's merch/marketing team is still suspicious as hell. Those people were LOOKING to profit off of the LGBTQ+ community AND IT WORKED.

That same team used Fair Game as a marketing tactic without approval from the creatives, sold ship merch AFTER Clover died. That segment of RT does not — and never will — care about the LGBTQ+ community.

Use the free wallpaper with the T-shirt artwork. Follow the artist's Twitter. Just stop feeding these corporations that do NOT give a fuck about you in real life.

They knew what they were doing with the merch, and they SUCCEEDED.

liking rwby despite some... questionable writing decisions and despite roosterteeth is like still liking a disney movie despite disney does that make sense

Oh no anon you are mistaken. I do not like RWBY. I hate RWBY. I divorced RWBY three years ago when I realized that the entire premise of their plot is "Ruby is right and morality is determined by proximity to her" and that opened my eyes to the SCORES of other bad writing choices they've made prior. Just I got custody of the cast in the divorce so those are my characters now.

I also just have a lot of merch leftover from before the divorce that I hang onto because I do still love those characters so much.

So in the RWBY fandom they do their ship names by using words or phrases associated with both characters and using that as the ship name instead of just fusing names together, E.G Checkmate (Weiss X Blake) or Lucky Charms (Qrow X Clover) (I hope that's the right ones I've never seen the show)

I think the mlp fandom should also adopt this naming format because while some name fusion ship names work and sound good E. G Lyrabon or Moonlight (Moondancer x Twilight) others sound kinda bad and don't roll of the tounge, like PinkieDash or especially DitzyTop/DerpyTop and any combo of Tavi and Vinyls Names. So yeah, let's do it with words and phrases instead. Some Examples:

Yang Xiao Long: A Look At Emotional Repression

(and how it may play into Volume 9)

So I made this post the other day and hadn’t completely figured out how to form my half baked thoughts into an actual theory yet but I think I’ve finally got it down.

Strap in this is a long one.

Now, as I mentioned in the original post, I think it’s highly likely that Yang has the same medical condition as Klein that makes it so his eyes change color based on his emotions. Unlike Klein, however, I believe that Yang’s trauma has caused her to repress her emotions to the point that her eyes barely change color unless she’s using her anger as a way of igniting her Semblance.

Now, before digging further into this theory, I want to introduce (or re-expose) you to Plutchik’s Flower of Emotions, as I’m going to reference it in relation to the three colors we have seen Yang’s eyes turn so far (yes I said three).

Now, we’ve already seen Yang’s eyes change color numerous times in the show, but it’s almost always been them turning red when she becomes or makes herself become angry. Which makes sense, since out of all the emotions that exist, anger is one of the safest ones to feel, especially when you’re a traumatized teenager just trying to survive existing.

In fact, many people use anger as a mask for their fear… and when you live in a world where terrifying monsters are trying to kill everyone, there’s a pseudo-goddess trying to destroy the world(?), and you’ve got abandonment issues up the wazoo…. yeah there’s a lot to be scared about.

The second color we see her eyes is her (supposed) natural color, which is purple. What’s interesting with purple is that it represents loathing, disgust, and boredom… which might in the surface level seem like a strange set of emotions to be heavily tied into Yang’s everyday eye color but we’ve seen in canon the depths of her own self-loathing and how that effects her decision making — there’s a reason that she’s willing to throw herself between others and danger without a second thought, after all.

In Volume 2 when they’re discussing their dreams for the future Yang seems disgusted with her own lack of direction in life, and while we didn’t go into too much depth in Volume 8, Ren does make it clear that all the bravado she puts on is just a front. And while he’s specifically reassuring her it’s okay to be scared, she isn’t always walking into a death trap the size of a whale (ha ha) when putting up her walls.

Now, the last color we see Yang’s eyes turn is orange, which is fascinating both due to when it happens but also because of what it represents; vigilance, anticipation, and interest.

Yang’s orange eyes show up at the end of Volume 7 during Team RWBY’s fight against the Ace Ops (below). What’s interesting about this is that her and Blake’s fight vs Elm and Vine is arguably one of Yang’s best fights in terms of keeping a level head and fighting strategically (the only other fight I can think of that competes is her and Blake vs Adam).

This is also one of the few fights versus other people where team RWBY absolutely dominates. Normally if their fights with other people there’s a lot more back and forth but between the Ace Ops struggling to fight without their lucky charm and fighting amongst themselves and Team RWBY having the superior teamwork, the whole fight’s just a wipe. And even if it wasn’t, for basically the first time since the Vytal Festiva, their opponents aren’t trying to kill them or even maim them (for the most part *cough*Harriet*cough*} so the personal stakes are a lot lower.

So it would make sense why Yang isn’t relying on her fear masking anger here. She and Blake are totally in sync with each other, and have already destroyed Vine and without a word shared between them they’ve almost defeated Elm... so for once when Yang activates her Semblance she's not desperately trying to end the fight to protect the team... she's anticipating the final blow after remaining vigilant enough during the fight to pull off the whole “defeating our opponents without talking” thing she and Blake pull off.

Plus, while it might have played a slightly smaller role during the fight itself, Yang is interested in Blake, and the two of them were, as mentioned above, in perfect sync the entire fight.

Important to note with this one that (I believe) CRWBY has said this was just an animation choice in Volume 7. I believe that this is false for two reasons. 1. Earlier in the Volume when Yang’s eyes previously went red they were undeniably red (below) and 2. it wouldn't be the first time that CRWBY accidentally revealed something that was meant for a later Volume and chalked it up to an animation error... that’s what happened in Volume 1 when they accidentally showed that Penny was a robot.

How does this tie into Yang’s arc in Volume 9? Well, after falling to her death Therapy Island, with the rest of Team RWBY, this Volume is set up to be the perfect opportunity for each of the girls to address their emotional issues, particularly Yang and Ruby, who unlike Blake and Weiss did not resolve their personal arcs in Volumes 4-7.

And while Ruby’s mounting breakdown has been pretty obvious, Yang’s has been building slower, quieter, and over a much long period of time (likely since pre-Beacon even) and is likely going to take a lot of people off guard cause she’s really good at hiding how messed up she is inside.

And oh boy, am I excited to see those walls come crashing down.

Sun is one of the few characters in RWBY without loads of baggage. He left the show before the writers could truly tarnish him. Unfortunately they left that to the book author, who magnified Sun's existing flaws to ridiculous levels in an OOC manner to the point the narrative itself was putting him down. Of course he ain't perfect. His lack of character beyond serving as a springboard for Blake to bounce her ideas off and be a potential love interest leaves much to be desired. Sun can be bad at reading people and situations but he means well. He's a goofy himbo, with a badass weapon, and easy on the eyes. How he opened Blake up with patience and understanding while always being there to support her is something anyone would be lucky to have in a friend or boyfriend. Not to mention his talk with her after his near death showed he was able to be serious when needed. Arguably they flanderized his silly side for comic relief after Beacon more than I would've liked but it's not like he was the only one who experienced character derailing. He remains my favorite after MKEK ruined the others. Monkey boy is the GOAT.

I did hear bad things about how EC Myers treated Sun in the novels. Unfortunately I haven't read the books and don't intend to spend money on any more RT products, but from what I hear from other, bigger Sun fans than me, it's not a flattering picture.

But yeah, there is a charming simplicity to Sun. Same blonde hair, sunny disposition and motif... he's kind of like Yang without the baggage - which has its pros (he's a very stable, likable character) and cons (he's pretty static and not very compelling unless paired with someone).

Talking about AUs and rewrites, if one were to tackle Sun in their fanfic, they do have to somewhat account for the fact he and Yang occupy a very overlapping role towards Blake - a cheerful, more extroverted foil who keeps her from withdrawing into herself and infecting her with their positivity.

For most, if they had to choose between the two to prioritise, it typically lands on who they like or ship with Blake more. I do like the idea of giving Sun a lot more substance and make him more of his own character, with a life beyond just being Blake's support. It's not common though, but I do admit I need to look into more Sun-focused stories when I can. If any followers know of any fics that explore Sun more - like his past and motivations, feel free to reply!
