Just saw an ask about Nancy’s lack of social behaviors that inspired some thoughts. I didn't want to intrude on them with my disagreements. They make a couple of reasonable points, but I believe they're missing some aspects of Nancy’s personality to interpret them. Obviously, some of this comes down to personal interpretation, but this is my understanding of Nancy Wheeler.

Addressing their points: Canonically, Nancy isn't a social person. She didn't reach out to Robin at all in the year after Starcourt Mall. The only people we see her regularly hanging out with, after Barb's death, is whoever her current boyfriend is. These are all facts. I personally feel her questioning Robin's presence in season 3 was less a 'I have absolutely zero idea who you are' reaction, and more of a 'why the heck is this new person helping us fight a monster and making comments, since when?' type reaction. This is up for interpretation though, so I won't argue that point.

However, Nancy’s lack of social life is not an indicator of a lack of desire for friendship. Nancy struggles with opening up to people. She finds emotional vulnerability and genuine connection both difficult and terrifying. We see this aversion present itself in her relationship with Mike, as well as signs of it presenting in her dysfunctional family. 

Barb was her only real friend in the beginning of the show. We see her change herself, to try to conform to Steve's group, but even then she is very distant from everyone but Steve and Barb. She relied on previous bonds in a social situation, and made no attempts to create new ones. Granted, Tommy and Carol weren’t people she cared to be friends with. However, this seems to be a pattern of behavior, as indicated by her social situations throughout the show. Another example is the party in season two, when she got drunk and only actually talked to Steve.

Nancy stays inside a social comfort zone. She is not outgoing without a purpose. She’s good at listening, but she doesn’t talk to people without an external reason, such as a story. What some people may forget, is that once Nancy is comfortable with someone, many of those barriers go away. She actually stays quite close to people she likes and feels comfortable with, especially in a distressing situation. She made Barb come to the party for this exact reason. 

The Upside Down dangers created the perfect situations to create deep bonds with Steve and Jonathan. They were forced into situations that lowered guards and allowed them to be genuine with each other. There’s a reason she ended up dating both of them, and essentially relying on them for connection over the years. It wasn’t just trauma bonding, but also that barrier free connection. 

Jonathan was the one to distance himself from Nancy in between season one and two. We see Nancy still reaching out at the beginning of season two. He had been placed in the comfortable zone, and as such, she was quite social with him, despite not dating yet. She ends up distanced from Steve because ex status took him out of that zone, alongside lack of communication in their relationship and the inability to be emotionally vulnerable with him. 

Then we go into post-season three territory. Nancy and Robin don’t talk after Starcourt. Why would they? The two saw each other in a dangerous situation, but they never actually connected. There was no bond, and I highly doubt that Robin took the initiative to attempt to develop one afterwards. Steve started dating Nancy because he put persistent effort into showing his interest. She’s not exactly the type to reach out first. Once within the trust and comfort zone, then yeah, she will initiate contact with a person, but she struggles before then. 

As for people outside of the Hawkins Gang, alongside her natural social aversion, there’s also the barrier of being unable to be completely honest with them. This is a major thing for Nancy, who likely values genuine friendships, and has little respect for superficial ones. This, alongside the trauma surrounding Barb, hinders her quite a lot.

After Jonathan moves away, Nancy is left relatively alone. She has working relationships with people in the newspaper, but not much beyond that. Perhaps there was the possibility of a friendship developing over time with Fred, but that was cut short. Even then, once again, the person she’s closest to got there because they were placed in a situation where she had an external reason to initiate contact.

Does that mean she doesn’t really care to make any more friends aside from Jonathan? Turn now to the famous line: "Does that make us friends? As in, officially?"  

Look at that smile, and try to tell me that she isn't ecstatic to have Robin confirm their new relationship.

This girl desperately wants a friend. She just doesn’t know how to make one. Looking just at that scene, Nancy is visibly nervous. She doesn’t say anything until Robin drops the friend-word, and then she feels the need to confirm it with her. She wanted it so badly, and was so relieved when Robin revealed that she felt the same way. This wasn’t a little thing to her.

How do they even get to that point in season four? First, Robin puts herself in Nancy’s orbit, despite Nancy’s discomfort. People have a tendency to discount her ideas and not listen to her. She was an unknown variable in a stressful situation. However, the situation allowed them to really talk and the start of a connection was created. Robin had listened to her, and had validated her theory. 

Nancy was starting to like her.

What did she do next? Take advantage of the situation they were in, to sneakily attempt to grow closer. It wasn’t just the fact that Robin was competent and Nancy respected her after the library, but because she wanted to spend time with her. There were plenty of options within the group of competent people, yet Nancy repeatedly singled Robin out. Nancy was trying to become friends.

I say take advantage of it though, because it is a lot less stressful to initiate conversations with someone if you have an excuse. ('They were in a dangerous situation, it wasn't about wanting to be her friend, whaaatt.' Lies.) Suddenly a lot of the normal social pressure and anxiety around initiating contact is decreased. And look at what Nancy does in that scenario, she immediately reaches out. 

Give her a reason, or a purpose, and she can go up and talk to anyone about anything. Take that away, and she gets too stressed or anxious to be the first. 

Anyway, to sum up, Nancy sticks to people she’s comfortable with. Robin, and maybe Steve depending on how the romance is handled, have managed to maneuver themselves into her comfort zone by the end of season four. She has confirmed friendship with Robin, and as previously established, once Nancy likes you, she is social. She will reach out to you, and spend time with you. 

Outside of danger, she likely takes a while to trust people, so anyone who wants to join in the hangouts would need to be willing to put in some effort and be patient with her, but it isn't impossible. She wouldn’t avoid them, just stick close to comfort people.

She's not completely anti-social. Nancy is an introvert who struggles to trust, but once you have that trust, she is a reliable friend.

Our beloved V and her love

Players have been looking at the world from V's perspective. Valerie is the observer who brings our eyes. We see the story of many characters, but we have less opportunity to observe our girl. Perhaps it is easy to be less sensitive to many of her behaviors and emotions, since we have been long used to seeing those options as a means to serve the plot of the game. However, if we do not take it all for granted, but think deep inside the logic behind with some of our subjective initiative, we will realize that the johnny/v relationship from V's perspective may be a perfect example of "showing instead of telling".

Valerie seems to be more accustomed to show her love and care to others. She is the one always offering a helping hand in her established relationship. You can say this is a coincidence caused by the characteristics of the first-person RPG, but in any case, the result is that she is relatively more introverted in various relationships. She listens instead of telling. It's more like everyone needs her than she needs them [born to be a merc, don't you think?]. She listens to everyone's troubles and solves all kinds of problems, but she seldom easily shows her vulnerability until she has to. Even if she decides not to hide the sad truth from her friends, she rarely asks for support directly. What she says more is "It's okay." or "I feel better now. No worries." or "I've found a way. Hope it works". This is what I find most endearing and remarkable about our girl - the main storyline is her plight. She is dying. Her life is counting down. She is the one who needs help. But beyond that, dozens of side jobs are basically about her pulling others out of the shadows, out of the mire, and into a new life. Imagine a patient with terminal cancer who is still doing psychological therapy for others, and you will find that she is so strong and brave, and so good at pretending; that she can even fool the group of strangers behind the screen who think they know her best. The new legend in NC that we knew doesn't even know how to escape the scythe of death.

This is where it gets interesting. With Valerie, we visited Judy's hometown flooded by the reservoir. We met the family members who are dependent on River. We understand the past of Panam and Aldecados. And we know very well the years of light and gloom of Kerry.

The problem is, we don't know much about V. We have only a one-sided perception of her life. Again, you can say that this is the beauty of first-person RPGs! Leaving enough room for the player's imagination! We can totally make up our story for our V. But the objective truth is that our knowledge of V's memory in the game is from the prologue and some seperated side jobs about her background (i.e., street kid/corpo/nomad). In addition, what we get is only fragments of her childhood that she dictated to herself, and Johnny's words.

Yes. Johnny's words describing the first half of V's life.

The man is the closest obeserver of V.

V: "Sure seem to know a lot about my past."

Johnny:"Well, seen flashes of your past, just like you've seen flashes of mine."

That's what makes their relationship so special. Valerie rarely reveals her past voluntarily and shows her thoughts, but whether she wants it or not, she has a partner who shares these secrets with her and is as close to her as her sense of self. I have to mention her time with the joytoys in the clouds that connects her subconscious. In fact, if we talk to the end, we will find that it is very much like a simple conversation she had with Johnny back in the Tapeworm. Angel and the Sky have slightly different lines, but they both end with the phrase "If you must kill, kill. If you must burn all the world to the ground, then let it burn.", I don't think this is an echo without any particular purposes.

So for Valerie, the relationship with Johnny is different from her other intimate relationships. In the dialogue with Johnny we can see Valerie releasing her various emotions to the greatest extent possible. She rarely comes across as the strong and reliable merc who seems to be powerful and always makes people feel safe. On the contrary, in Tapeworm and Chippin' In, we can see V show her vulnerability and sensitivity while changing Johnny. She often expresses her confusion and anger. She no longer says "I found a way". She asks "what do you want". She can be confused, fearful of death, and greedy for life. she becomes a resentful and incomprehensible about the city and her fate. She becomes an ordinary young person, resentful and uncomprehending about the city and her fate. Johnny knows her past like he knows the back of his hand. He knows everything she cares about most and the root of all her fears. He listens to her, understands her and even stubbornly decides to save her. He keeps asking her forcefully to accept his help and reminds her after the meaningful concert that "Kerry's got his life back. Whereas we should be worryin' about how to get yours back". So Mr. Pondsmith, the original author of the board game, is right in saying that because of Johnny's presence, V was cushioned before she had a nervous breakdown and became a cyber psychopath.

Such companionship and closeness would be like painkillers. Perhaps V is unconscious to herself, but she has developed dependence long before she realizes. Her subconscious habit of defending him would have been able to show her subtle preference. Before she knew it, Johnny was already a source of security. No matter how much she usually argued with him and said she didn't want to hear him anymore, her subconscious was looking for him at the most fearful and uncomfortable times.

When V first accessed the cyberspace in the Pacifica with the Voodoo Boys, she uneasily seeked confirmation from Johnny as she stepped into the biting cold water. And before she had a near-death experience of that time of unconsciousness, she fell to the ground and called out Johnny's name, saying in her mind that she was going to die, until he held her wrist and said she ain't dying yet cuz he got her. It is said that people are most honest when they are dying. Did Valerie find her true feelings about him at that time? Did she realize that she only wanted to rely on this pure solace of the heart, despite all the friends she had met, despite knowing that Johnny could not technically and literally offer her a hand in the material world?

Maybe that's why she gave that answer when Johnny asked her if she would take a bullet for him.

The Johnny in her head is just a mass of data, a phantom, and a copy of the engram. Everyone including Johnny knows this, and Valerie reminds herself of this fact from time to time, but she still believes in the end that he is a part of her soul, a comrade who will accompany her to the end. The kitten (Nibbles) they picked up together was real, the tattoos he left on her arm were real, and so were his dog tags and his promises.

Valerie's desire to live is so strong, but in the most ideal development path of the plot, even if she had to endure the suffer because of the RELIC, she didn't even take much of tablet to block him out until the final rooftop choice. Could it be that she would rather endure physical pain than experience sudden loneliness and isolation on a spiritual level? She emphasizes her control over her body, yet she swallows Endotrizine for him again and again to fulfill his last wish when she knows she is getting closer to death. Why could she trust a man who was destined to take her life? Why can you trust someone who has shown all his "previous conviction" to her, someone she knows is a jerk in the past?

Only Valerie knows why.

In the deleted dialogue, Hellman says that she, letting Johnny control her body, is like a young girl in love and doesn't care anything else (I dont know the original lines in English but I do see the line in the Chinese ver voice package). In the end of the secret ending, Rogue said that Johnny must have made a pretty big impression on V for getting on board. The truth is it's hard for an outsider to really understand what it's like to have someone so close in spirit.

It's never the same thing as "Let's try. We can break up if it doesn't work out". Once that "you're in me, and I'm in you" state is confirmed, she can't get out of it - unless she denies herself. As long as she can't let go of herself, she can't let go of him. She's willing to give to him as much as she's willing to give to herself.

So even at the end of the six months Valerie has left to live, she will feel that she can't hear him anymore and can't see him anymore, but she will never lose him. There will always be a part of her soul that belongs to him. Maybe she will listen to his songs, holding all the traces of him left behind and missing him without a word, because no one can understand.

She will only tell them that she just got used to him.

Finally! Here are the designs for the USC AU! Here is the first part, introducing Martlet, Dalv, Chujin, and Ceroba!

It went surprisingly well drawing the four since I'm used to drawing skeletons and humans, and I barely draw animals and other creatures, anthropomorphic or not.

Though I gotta say that Chujin and Ceroba (mostly Ceroba) gave me hell designing them, so I had to research the costumes (why are there so many sexualized samurai outfits for women-) and use reference from other UTY Swap AUs-

This is the stats screen for Kathryn “Katie” Emmerson, my MC for the story. She is the oldest twin, but she is more soft-spoken. Her younger twin brother Landon was always one to wear his emotions directly on his sleeve and take charge of the situation, while she is one to observe before acting. She is a lefty and loves to write, and tends to get lost in her thoughts and daydream often. She is a bookworm and introverted, while her brother is more athletic and social. *Very* much opposites. Katie struggles with her self-image a lot, doubts herself and her abilities. She is one of the top students in the class, but she believe it to be because she works hard, not because of any real talent or intelligence.

While Landon is irresponsible and carefree, she studies and keeps herself on the straight and narrow. After all, *someone* had to fill in the shoes Maggie left unfilled, and their father Arthur… well, who knows where he is? So she kind of had to grow up a bit faster as a result.

I have the headcanon that Katie’s *not* close to her mother Maggie while her twin is, hence him throwing away the locket picture. It hurt Landon more, hence not wanting to keep it. She has lost hope of her mother returning, but she tries to give her brother hope by trying to be more optimistic in front of him about it. Now if Landon can sense that… no idea :O

Rosie, her best friend, does make life a bit more gentle, though– when Katie has a bad day, she knows just who to go to for a hug. Always more willing to listen than to speak, the two tend to balance each other well, with Katie being the more quiet one and Rosie being more outgoing.

In terms of confrontation, Katie acts with words/smarts. So when confronted with B, she cut straight to the point on the matter. You and Gepard are very similar, but I think that's why you two get along so well. You both are not the most socially adept people, but you both wish to protect those closest to you in your own ways.

I imagine you guy's love story starts as childhood friends...well sorta. You two are kind of more friends by association then anything. You're Serval's best friend so you two know of each other and have talked a few times over the years, but don't know much about each other besides that. Best friend's brother trope but in reverse.

You guys don't really get to know each other until Serval and her band have an after party for their latest album release. You're there to support you best friend (and be the designated driver) and Gepard is there for the same reason (and to be the security/bouncer). You two bond over childhood memories and your shared love for Serval and start talking (totally wasn't part of Serval's plan to set yall up).

After that night you guys start to hang out more, outside of Serval planning something, when Gepard has some free time. You two mainly spend your time together in the quieter parts of Belobog like the library to read together. He likes to read your writings and sometimes you'll draw pictures of him (which makes his face go a bright pink despite not being in the frosted wasteland lately strange)

It takes Gepard awhile to realize (and help from Serval, Luke, Dunn, and Pela) for him to realize he's been slowly falling for you. He goes through the 5 stages of grief trying to understand his feelings. When he finally reaches the acceptance stage, he starts to plan how he will ask you out. He remembers Serval reading him stories about handsome knights wooing beautiful princesses with their chivalry and gentlemen like nature, so that's exactly what he does.

One day he knocks on your door with a bouquet of roses, gets down on his knees, and asks if you will go out with him. Except it didn't go at all as he had planned given that he kept fumbling with his words, and you were frozen like one of the ice statues he had seen in the wastelands. It was hella awkward for both of you and he was about to turn away in defeat you let him inside to talk things out. and the rest is history.

You guy's relationship is shy, but sweet. You're both pretty awkward baby beans so you guy move pretty slowly, but sure enough you are moving forward. You guys prefer to keep your relationship quiet, not that you lie you just don't do PDA or call each other nicknames in public. In private however Gepard isn't opposed to hand holding and some snuggles.

Serval loves yall's relationship so much, she's glad her brother and best friend have both found good people let alone each other. She likes to tease you guys on how shy and flustered you are. Sometimes Pela uses you two as inspiration for her own writing and you guys compare notes. Dunn is especially happy for his boss/best friend, he had never seen him so happy.

Gepard himself can be a workaholic too, but he understands that you can't protect anyone if you don't take care of yourself. So, he likes to help you live a healthier life like he does. Positive reinforcement talk in the mirror, helps you overthink less by taking deep breaths and encouragement, he makes sure you eat 3 Nutrional meals a day, he makes sure you get decent rest (at least 8 hours of sleep at night), and he asks you how your day was and how you're feeling. he can seem like a bit of a parent, but he just loves you and wants you physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.

Gepard is very busy as captain of the silvermane guards and doesn't always have time to hang out, but you're always on his mind when on duty. He keeps a little picture of you in a locket which he wears at all times. It reminds him of all the things worth protecting.

Wrote this little relationship study for Isabela and Camilo pretty late tonight. Here’s an unedited version for tumblr, full version on AO3. I’d really like to do some more studies on rarely paired characters. Enjoy!

Camilo always felt as if Isabela didn’t like him very much.

Sure, it was never to the extent she had been with Mirabel, for which he was grateful (he really didn’t think he could survive Isabela’s stare-downs the way his youngest prima could.)

Her disdain for him was always quieter, more subdued. It was just enough that, had you not been looking for it, you may not realize it was there.

Camilo always noticed it, buried deep under perfect smiles, though little sprouts broke three in the little things she did.

She never would laugh at the jokes he made. Even the ones he made for her, when he thought she seemed a bit too tense and tried to lighten the mood, they were always met with a glance of narrow eyes and downturned lips.

Before big events she would stare at him just a second too long, as if she expected him to ruin them somehow. She seemed to always think he was going to deliberately cause chaos. (Camilo didn’t, though he didn’t always make that clear. It was a good cover for his natural clumsiness in his own skin.)

Every time, every way he tried to connect, it just fell flat. Slowly, he stopped trying.

The more Camilo watched, the less he really wanted Isabela to like him.

Isabela was hurting his sister.

Dolores was quiet, and introverted. With all the noise, she opted to keep her thoughts inside her head until absolutely necessary.

Thanks to his gift, Camilo was a master of observation, and he saw it all.

He’d heard her sigh at feeling like she was second place her entire life. He had seen her face fall each time Isabela became the perfect, eldest grandchild even though Dolores was only a few months - not even an entire year - younger.

Then, he’d seen Dolores fall in love.

She would sit on the balcony every night, with that same puppy-dog look written over her face. For the longest time, Camilo wasn’t sure exactly who she was listening to, until he finally caught her staring at him across the courtyard.

His sister was in love with resident dumb hunk Mariano Guzman. Now, Camilo didn’t quite understand it. He still thought Dolores could do significantly better with all she had to offer (her kindness, her patience, her grace, her willingness to give up the last arepa) but he couldn’t deny he’d never seen her happier than the day Mariano was reciting poetry in the town square.

She was in love, totally and completely, with the man that his prima had been courting with, and planned to marry.

The man that, just two months shy of the beginning of their courting, Isabela had said she had no interest in. The man that Isabela had told Dolores she should speak to.

Once again, he saw his sister biting her tongue to keep the peace. She wasn’t allowed to be angry, not at the golden child. Dolores never raised her voice

So neither did Camilo, but that didn’t mean he couldn't hold a bit of animosity for what his Prima did.

….

Then, Casita had fallen. The family was different, casita was different, and eventually, the magics hold was different too.

Isabela had changed. She was vibrant, free, and often smiling so much more. Her smile was different, and he couldn’t help but wonder which one was her real smile.

Camilo wondered a lot of things about Isabela.

He wondered why she picked the colors she did for her dress, bright blue and pink, despite finally saying her favorite color was actually red. He wondered how she learned to move on from her broken engagement so quickly. He wondered how much pacing it took her to finally come clean and announce she had no plans to marry any man.

He wondered how she managed to find herself so effortlessly.

All it took was a hug and then Isa seemed to know who she was. She dressed differently, she walked differently, sometimes it even felt like she breathed differently (far more deeply, as if she was calmer now.)

Most of all, above all else, he wondered why he couldn’t too. How was it after three weeks Isabela was able to know what she liked, to be herself, but he himself was still staring up at walls?

Some nights, Camilo found himself staring into the mirror for hours. He would simply stand there, observing, wondering which details were correct. Were they all truly his, or had he picked a few up and forgotten to let them go?

He never slept those nights.

His room was simply too oppressive, with all the reflective surfaces and pictures of different people he’d need to take shape of. Casita would carefully help shift tiles to get him down to the kitchen on shaky knees, where he could stand over the sink, heaving and sure he’d be sick.

He wasn’t.

His shoulders were still trembling when he pushed himself up, slipping away out to the back patio of casita. Maybe he just needed some fresh air. He was hunched slightly, trying to get his breaths to even out and heartbeats to slow when a hand met his shoulder, almost jumping from his skin.

“Camilo? Are you okay?” His prima’s voice asked gently. It wasn’t the way it was with an overly sweetened, feminine tone, but still had the same gentle warmth of Julietas.

Merida.

“Peachy.” He mumbled, half-heartedly in reply. He should pull on a smile, crack a joke she would roll her eyes at like he usually did, but his head was pounding and Camilo just couldn’t pull out the energy to care.

“I thought you were supposed to be a good liar.” Isabela cut in, but Camilo couldn’t bring herself into lifting his gaze to hers. He didn’t need that cold stare, the one that made him feel as if he’d done something wrong before he could even take a breath.

Wait, no, that wasn’t true anymore. Isabela had turned a new leaf, changed into her true self, and was much happier for it.

He didn’t feel like anything had changed.

“Camilo? What’s wrong?” His prima repeated, “something’s up. Should I get Lola?” She asked, voice teetering on uncertainty.

That’s what caught his attention, as his gaze flew up to her shaking his head.

“Please don’t.” He pleaded. Later, attempts to recover, “Don’t need to stress her out just because of me.”

She hummed gently, wavering before nodding in acknowledgment. Having seemingly reached the end of what she could do, she began to move away, but was called back suddenly.

“Isa?”

The small tremble in his voice caught her attention quickly, spinning back, “yes?”

“How do you do it?”

“Hmm?” The eldest asked, eyes widened slightly when processing the sentence. “Do what?”

“Just, this.” He says, feeling a pang in his chest. “You just- You found everything you liked, so easily. How do you know this is anymore “you” than before. What’s the difference?” He asks in quick succession, ignoring the shake in his words. “It’s like you found yourself in a week.” He mumbles.

Isabela chuckled suddenly, shaking his head. “Yeah, I totally worked through over a decade of self-repression in a week.” She cuts in sarcastically. Camilo looked up, and upon seeing his expression near tears, her expression fell to much softer.

She saw his shoulders stiffen, moving to sit next to him with a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Milo, I’m still learning just as anyone else is.” She brag, leaning back with a sigh. Chuckling slightly, she continued, “You know why I’ve been making so many cati? They’re harder to kill. I’ve been working on so many new things, and all of them fail at least once.” She explains.

“It just feels like you’re always so sure of yourself.” He concedes after a moment, pushing the fallen curls from his face. “You look into a mirror and know exactly what you are.”

“Wasn’t always like that. I had to rediscover what I liked.” Isabela cut in with a warm smile. Slowly, she slid his hand into hers. It was a bit stiff and awkward, and it made her realize just how long has it been since they’ve talked this way? When was the last time she and Camilo had a serious conversation. When had Camilo last had a serious conversation with anyone?

“I tried accordion with Mira, romance books from Tia Pepa, Papi’s love for the piano. None of it felt right, so I started to see what I liked. I like expanding my plants, I like reading of the plants in other places, but I had to find those things. Didn’t mean I was searching alone.”

Her primo was silent, seemingly lost in thought. She could see the look on his face, see him slipping away, so she nudged him. “It doesn’t mean you’re searching alone, Milo.” She gently reminded.

The air hung for a moment. She didn’t let go of his hand, letting Camilo process it all. He was still trying to take smooth breaths, when after a moment, he began to stumble.

“Maybe we could start in the garden? I think I’d like to learn more about your plants, or what they do?” Camilo asked. His entire demeanor was stiff and questioning, relaxing as Isabela only smiled.

“That sounds wonderful. I’m looking forward to it.” She agreed, “maybe we could use some of my colored pollen in your hair.”

Can I get a HOTD or GOT match up? I’m cool with whichever. Romantic ship, please. For physical appearance, I’m 5’4 and while I don’t have a *lot* of upper body strength, I have pretty strong legs (thanks to fencing). I wrote a really long essay abt how much I love this Windblume event and abt how much I love how Collei was handled

It's around 670 words here, feel free to read it under the keep reading! I mostly just wanted to ramble abt Collei, so it's a bit messy sorrryyyy

This Windblume event is literally all I could’ve wanted in a Collei Mondstat event, Genshin writing isn’t exactly infamous for being peak literature, but in this instance it was extremely authentic and wonderfully done in my opinion. I had always assumed that when they did this event it’d be Collei’s first return back to Mondstat, but I’m actually really happy it wasn’t it lent itself to being able to tell a more interesting and enthralling story and not just “Collei says hi to all her old friends for however many hours” I also especially love how Collei and Amber’s relationship wasn’t a main focus, and they honestly didn’t interact all that much. We *know* Collei and Amber dynamic we know they love and care for each other a massive amount, we didn’t need an event just to reaffirm what we already know, so I love that instead of focusing on the pre established they instead decided to establish a new bond for Collei. Collei and Sucrose bounce off each other extremely well Sucrose is almost like a Collei who didn’t have the events of the manga holding her back, a person who while is still introverted and not the best at social interactions still has a mature and logical mindset, I adore the way they could instantly bounce off each other and how Sucrose was able to understand the issues Collei struggles with and was able to help and listen to her, she understood when Collei needed breather and never forced herself onto her, she was content to listen to Collei or just sit next to her for an indefinite period of time, she understood what *Collei* needed and was happy to let her take however much time she needed.

And while Collei and Sucrose’s relationship may have been the focus of this event, Collei and Amber’s wasn’t completely pushed off to the side and I think the new perspective of it we saw was also very beautiful, in this event Amber took more of the position of a distant observer she could realize that in this current moment Collei didn’t need Amber and Amber didn’t take any offense to that she’s an incredibly smart character who can read people and tell what they need and in this current moment Collei didn’t need Amber she needed someone who could personally understand what she’s going through and that’s such an authentic and mature behavior. By all means, Amber could’ve forced herself into Collei’s journey, but she knew that sometimes people need a different kind of person at a current moment that doesn’t change their bond because Collei sought out a different individual Collei can’t rely on just one person and Amber absolutely understands that. One of if not my favorite line in the event is in Amber’s letter where she says that her and Collei is not that of savior and saved, but simply that of good friend’s and I think that’s so incredibly beautiful I think it shows the difference in Collei and Amber’s mentality where savior and saved is very much so how Collei views her and Amber’s relationship as she looks up to Amber, I think to a certain extent she deifies her in her mind, a person who saved her from an awful point in her life and gave her a fresh start a new leaf. But that’s not at all what it is to Amber, she just did the right thing she doesn’t see Collei any lesser than her she doesn’t feel like she’s owed some debt for what she did for Collei because that’s just what friends do. All she wants for Collei is to grow and be able to live a happy life and that’s why she was able to take that step back in this event she could see that growth and development, and it’s okay she wasn’t the catalyst for it because that *never* was important to her.
