Quick Severus Snape Headcannon:
Despite what others believe, Severus Snape and Lily Evans passed notes to eachother in class (if they were done with their classwork) and sometimes in the library when they studied.
Severus kept all of the folded notes in a little wooden box and re-read them later on.
After a long, tiring day of teaching dunderhead students, Professor Snape goes into his office and opens up the locked desk drawer with the little wooden box in it. Once in a blue moon, the shadow of a smile crosses the grumpy professors face while he looks at the contents of the box.
(Check out my other posts if you like this Severus headcannon, I plan to add more headcannons)

Lily 2.0
so, a while ago, back when this blog was just finding it's foot, i made a post with a headcanon about why Jilly and Snilly wouldn't work out, wich was taken from a Prince Chaser fict , a ship that...if we are being honest probably wouldn't work out 'cause who would date someone who comited or threatened to comit CSA on them back when they were kids? but the ficts about it are cute and the ship is at least better than...say Severus Snape/Dumbledore.
anyway, back to the topic: after i made that post, a fellow Snape fan by the username of emma03080114 made several good points that i decided to include on it so now i present you....LILY 2.0 :
as much as they hated each other, James Potter and Severus Snape had one thing in common: although they liked to claim otherwise, neither of them truly loved Lily:
Yes they idealized her, as teens often do but it was not love.
To them, she was a princess from a fairytail, capable of doing no wrong and with next to no character flaws whatsoever.
James was crushing hard on Lily. He was atracted to Lily because of her beauty and popularity as well as her fiery temper'cause what he wanted the most was to have a stay at home warrior woman for a wife. To him, Lily was a challenge wich is what he loves the most as we can see when we take into consideration that it was him who decided that the marauders would become Animagi and it was him who had the idea for the marauders map. Hence why his main strategy to win her over was not to become closer to her but instead wear her down untill her NO becomes a YES.
He viewed Lily as Princess Peach a fiery damsel in distress, kidnaped by the big bad Bowser Severus who was tretening to crush her heart and bring her with him to the darkness, doing to her as he saw fit. (not that James knows shit about videogames or anything muggle really but i thought it was a good analogy)
James was the one who decided to get married and have kids right after they graduated Hogwarts and if it weren't for the war, Lily wouldn't have agreed 'cause she wanted to persue a carrer (probably as a healer or charms master) however, James, who had the most dotting parents anyone could ever wish for, had always idelized the notion of family and wanted one for himself. Once his parents died and seeing the war wouldn't stop anytime soon, he decided to fulfill that dream before it was to late.
Some may argue that he had to have loved Lily at least a bit since Harry came into existence but that could also have been motivated by lust and his own desire to have kids. it is more than clear that he was sexualy atracted to her and you don't have to love someone to have sex with them nor vice versa.
Severus, on the other hand, viwed Lily was his Belle, the only one he felt would ever be able to love the moster he saw himself as. He was unloved by his dad and although his mom may have loved him, she didn't love him enough to leave Tobias for his sake.
Never being exposed to real love or friendship prior to knowing lily is not surprising that he mistook the platonic love we did feel for her for a romantic love.
Neither Severus nor James ever got to truly know her, to see her as a person instead of an idea. Hence why i personally think that, had James and Lily lived, their relationship wouldn't last long.
They were just not right for each other: she was too headstrong, too opinionated and too independent to be the dotting wife he always dreamed of. Heck i can't even imagine her as a stay at home mom like most of the pureblood wifes seem to be.
In the End, Lily chose James because she, Like her sister, was a social climber and despite James being a certified toarag, he was pretty, popular, dominant and dirty rich was well as being a pureblood, thus giving her acess to the same social group that disciminated against her.
She also wasn't touchy enough for James or Severus and since she idealizes herself, believing herself to be superior to others, interpersonal justice is the only form of justice that matters to her. Thus, she would never correct Severus on his prejudiced views until those views resulted in her own feelings being hurt (like they canonically were at the lake.), plus despite the fact that she cares about thim, she never tried to view his side of the story. She never stoped to consider, for example, that a vast majority of the slytherins are either children of death eaters and/or planing to be death eaters so if Severus stoped talking to everyone associated with death eaters, he wouldn't have anyone to talk to in his house.
Honestly, i think that, for him to change without Lily dying, he would have to see muggles being mercilesly tourtured by those who follow the one he chose to call master, as well as having someone who suports him for real (ie not like Dumbledore who was more than happy to keep him in the DE instead of offering him a better option).
and for James to change for real, ('cause i don't think he did. i think he just toned down his bullying whenever Lily was around),he would have to see how much what he and his friends did truly hurts Severus. To do that, he would need to talk to someone who knows what Severus had gone trough or truly reflect if what he did was ok. Truthfully, is hard for people like him to change, unless something or someone makes them more empathic with others
Tumblr media
Wow this poster got long!
Once again, thanks for your input emma03080114 and for those who are wondering, no i do not hate Lily, i just think that she would be better off with someone else.

Three opinions on popular ships nobody asks for
(I wanna say that I’m a sucker for aesthetics, and usually go with my gut, my opinions are a reflection of that. I don’t look at the practical side of the ship, it’s only a ship after all. So I’m just having fun.)
(My opinions aren’t relevant, I believe that everyone should respect what the other person wants, as long as it isn’t harmful, so yeah enjoy!)
WOLFSTAR:
Why? It just doesn’t sit right with me. Not that I don’t enjoy it being a background ship, sometimes it’s really wholesome and well writen.
And then again my headcanon is that Sirius is platonic soulmates with James, although that doesn’t cut Remus out of the picture.
I really enjoyed them in fics, but I usually filter them out, alongs side with…
JEGULUS:
No…? I mean you do you but… God it makes me uncomfortable.
First of all, I do love “My big brothers best friend” trope, but in this scenario…
Although canon has never stopped me before, and I feel like a hypocrite, again I remind myself I am allowed to like what I like.
SNILLY:
And Snilly… people might hate me for this but the country I live in is theoretically free so lets go. Have you seen those Trans!Lily and Severus fan fics?
God that had me have an epiphany, before that I believed that their love for each other was strictly platonic, and from all the variants I enjoy Platonic!Snilly most.
But god damn if Trans!Lily or straight up gender bended isn’t nectar for my ears and eyes.
And damn me but if they are both gender bended then I might start jumping.

Hi! Recently discovered your blog and really love it! I've been making my way through your posts (as I'm sure you've noticed, sorry) and I've noticed that some from like 2018ish are still pretty relevant to Snape discussions today. I'm fairly new to the fandom so I was wondering: have the anti snape people just been recycling the same talking points for the past 4-5 years? That would be kind of depressing if so, since so many of these arguments are just bad and you'd think that they'd trickle out as people realize it... Or have you noticed some definite trends in the arguments and talking points surrounding Snape that have changed over the years?
it's funny bc i dont really pay that much attention to notifications (every once in a while i dive in to see if there's any responses/tags i want to respond to, but otherwise they're white noise 2 me) but i can always tell when someone's just found this blog bc a lot of times i'll get so many notifs from them in a row. so no need to say sorry! there's no bigger compliment to me than someone who wants to keep all my opinions about snape lmao.
anyway, hand to god, i'm pretty sure anti-snape people decided on their four arguments about ten years back and have just been recycling them with different wording ever since. there are arguments i remember seeing in ye olde harry potter fandom that are almost unchanged today. the pervasive idea of snape as a creepy stalker, that snape traumatized neville, and that snape willing gave up harry and james to "have" lily are the three i've noticed just have stuck around for so, so, so long. it's VERY frustrating.
to be fair, hp has regurgitated plenty of fandom discourse just by way of being a long-lived fandom with a healthy and quarrelsome fan base. but the snape arguments in particular always seem especially long-lived. i don't think i noticed exactly how repetitive they were until i ran this blog and started seeing them crop up over and over (and over and over).
in the anti arguments, the main thing i've noticed though is the same thing i think everyone's noticed about the way people talk about characters they don't like - there's so many social justice buzzwords thrown in to "prove" a character is "problematic." back in ye olde hp fandom days, there were plenty of people who didn't like snape and there were shipping wars and such (jilly vs snilly and so on) but the vitriol about snape being abusive and problematic and so on is something that's a more recent trend and is really born out of the way people need to make characters they dislike morally bad so they can feel justified in it. (the inverse is also true - the push to make james and the marauders feminists and such all comes from the desire to make characters we like better/less "problematic.") there's been a much steadier shift from "i don't like snape and i think he's mean" to "i think snape is actually the most evil, abusive character who traumatizes children for fun and doesn't mind killing babies" (all arguments i've seen at least once if not multiple times lol).
on the flip side, from the pro-snape camp, i feel like the arguments around snape have become more nuanced and there's been a lot more mining of material. that said, there's also a lot more defensiveness - whereas before there could be a live and let live attitude about anti snape people, now it really does feel like you have to defend on all sides just to say something about a fictional character you like. so that leads to a lot more snappish discourse than there used to be over snape on both sides tbh.
but aside from discourse, the trend i've really loved seeing is how much more we've pushed to examine snape's identity - the uptick in ace!snape and trans!snape headcanons, the queer shipping with snape, and so on are much more varied than back in the old days where you basically had... snilly as a major pairing and snape as a het white dude and that was it. (at least in my corner of fandom!)

*After Lily broke up a fight between Severus and the Marauders*
Lily: That was absolutely uncalled for. You know that the Lupin boy is sick.
Severus: I said nothing wrong.
Lily: You need to stop throwing uncomfortable truths in people's faces. It hurts them.
Severus: He hurt me.

everyone's like 'snape hated harry because he looked like james' .. but what if he hated him because he had lily's eyes and it was so hard for him to look into her eyes after all again ?

hi i saw you might pick up Severus Snape as a muse and I was wondering are you alright with OC's that are "What if" kids? I have an OC that is the What if child of Snape and Lily, I could tell you more about her if you like, I also got a google doc bio for her - chaosxmuses
Okay! So I really wanted to wait until I was back at my laptop to answer this, since it was going to require more attention than I could spare it to answer fully while at work! Thank you for your patience, it’s greatly appreciated. ♥
My general rule of thumb when it comes to any canon-connected OC’s--be they children, parents, siblings, lovers, friends, what have you--is that I am willing to play them out to the exact extent to which you are willing to work with me to arrange things to fit both of our canons.
That’s going to mean compromise--and a lot of it!--on both sides. In general I’m not opposed to it: see also my ungodly slew of Descendants (thanks Destini & Flynn). But that doesn’t mean I won’t have little hang-ups or issues with working things out if I don’t feel it particularly fitting of the character I play.
One of my most cherished interactions in the past took the form of LeFou (mine) and his daughter LaFolle (Peggy; that’s the most recent URL I could find!). Peggy was really amazing and totally respected me when I said my LeFou could never be LaFolle’s biological father, and our adopted family writings--both modern and Disneyified--were heart-warming and 100% the only reason I’ve ever considered picking LeFou back up again.
I. LOVE. Original. Characters.
You just have to be willing to work with me a little is all, so I don’t feel my back’s against the wall and I’m forced into your headcanons anymore than you feel that way about me and mine!
I’ll PM you regarding the Snilly kiddo specifically after I’ve finished reading her info. ;)

snilly and no particular au, just curious of your headcanons
Lily’s parents are actually very fond of Severus. It’s obvious to them that he’s being physically abused but there is very little they can do about it. They try to provide shelter and help but Severus doesn’t like charity and he is very reluctant to let them.
They’re both complete hardcore fan of The Lord Of The Rings when they’re young, before Hogwarts. They’ve read the books several times, they know some parts by heart. It’s something that always makes Severus think about her later on. Every time he stumbles on a copy. He still has the books hidden away in his quarters.
He and Lily worked together to create charms, spells and potions - at least until the Mudblood incidents. It’s not always successful but they like to experiment, as reckless as it can get. The first time they manage to get one to work, Lily gets so enthusiastic, it’s not all Severus can do not to kiss her.
They meet once after Hogwarts, on the wrong end of a battlefield. Severus is the first to lower his wand but she follows suit. The look she gives him though... Disappointment and sorrow all rolled into one. It’s a memory he carries for a long time.
When they have a fight, they always patch it up by sharing a cigarette. It’s tradition. Lily isn’t a regular smoker and neither is he (because it’s hard to find at school). The cigarettes always come from Tobias. Severus steals them just to annoy his father. Lily insists it’s stupid but it’s an act of defiance.
Send me an Au and I will give you 5 Headcanons!

I actually love the headcannon that Lily is plus-size, I just imagine her as this large ball of light and I think physically that fits her so well. With flowing slightly curly ginger hair and caring green eyes as big as dinner plates, it'd make her ultimate picture of beauty. That and she's this beautiful full girl dragging around a poor scrap that is Severus malnourished ass and it'd make the contrast between them that much more prominant from a strangely metaphorical point of view. And plus-sized girlys definitely need more positive representation and I think Lily is insanely positive and could be just that :)
