Idk what this is I finished it tonight as part of my goal to publish something every month 😂 it’s not really hurt/comfort, it’s not really angst, but some secret third thing. I hope you enjoy regardless!

Sasha looked across the table at her girlfriend. Anetra was pushing the food around her plate wordlessly, eyes glued to the table. It wasn’t like her, and Sasha was worried.
“Babe, are you sure you’re okay?” Sasha asked for what was probably the fiftieth time that night.
“Yes, and stop asking.” Anetra said curtly, spearing her fork into a steamed carrot with far more force than necessary.
Sasha sighed, pressing her fingers into her temples and counting to 5 in her head. It wouldn’t do anyone any good for her to snap at Anetra right now, but she was at her wits end trying to get her to open up.
“Sweethea—“
“I’m fine, Sasha. Stop patronizing me,” Anetra interjected, finally tearing her gaze away from her uneaten plate of food to glare at Sasha.
It caught Sasha off guard, and she felt her palms go slightly clammy. All she wanted to do was help, but somehow she’d made an even bigger mess of this. Still, she couldn’t just drop the subject. In the six months they had been together, Sasha had never once seen Anetra like this.
Anetra seemed to notice the minute change in Sasha’s demeanor. That or the weight of whatever was happening became too much.
It looked like Anetra deflated. Her shoulders sagged and her irate expression melted off to something hollow and haunted. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to get upset,” she mumbled. Sasha’s heart broke a little. Carefully, she extended her hand, supine. After a moment’s hesitation, Anetra reached out, entwining their fingers and squeezing gently.
“I didn’t mean to upset you,” Sasha started carefully, rubbing her thumb along the back of Anetra’s hand. Anetra swallowed thickly and Sasha watched, gauging whether or not she was about to try.
“You didn’t– It’s nothing–” She cut herself off to stare at the ceiling in a move Sasha knew all too well. She was trying to keep tears at bay. “I just… I’m not fine. I know I said I was, but I'm not,” she said finally, blinking hard before meeting Sasha’s eyes again. Sasha’s heart broke again.
“Oh, my baby. Come here – dinner can wait,” she said softly, squeezing Anetra’s hand.
Anetra bit her lip harshly, hard enough to leave an imprint. “Can we go to the couch?”
“Of course we can.” Sasha stood up, keeping her grasp firm enough to hopefully be grounding.
They walked, hand-in hand, across the threshold into the living room. Sasha sat down first, pulling Anetra down so she was on her lap, arms snaking around her waist. “Is this okay?”
Anetra just nodded, burrowing into Sasha’s frame. It seemed, from the outside at least, that she was trying to make herself smaller. Sasha’s grip tightened minutely. “Do you want to talk about it? We don’t have to.”
Anetra shifted, nuzzling her face into Sasha’s shoulder before speaking. “I ran into Marcia.” Her voice was muffled, talking directly into the soft wool of Sasha’s cardigan. “At the store.”
Sasha swallowed a lump, trying to keep her own emotions in check. Anetra needed her to be strong right now. “Oh love, I’m sorry, that must have been jarring. Did she say anything to you?”
Anetra shook her head and Sasha could have sworn she heard a tiny sniffle. “She acted like she didn’t even know me… We were together for five fucking years and she acted like I was a total stranger,” Anetra’s voice broke and Sasha held her close, rubbing circles onto her back.
“I’m so sorry…” Sasha felt helpless. She didn’t know what to say, how to comfort Anetra. How could she possibly condense 5 years worth of relationship trauma into a genuine comfort? It felt like an impossible task. Useless platitudes sat on the tip of her tongue. “You deserve better than that,” she tried finally.
Anetra pulled back slightly, wiping her eyes with her sleeve. “Yeah. I do. I’m gonna go take a bath.” She carefully unwound herself from Sasha’s grip, standing up and heading towards the hall before Sasha could think of anything to say. Anetra paused at the entrance to the hallway, looking back at Sasha. “I love you,” she said quietly.
“I love you too,” Sasha replied. Anetra gave her a tiny smile before disappearing into the bathroom. Sasha leaned back, groaning and rubbing her face. I love you just wasn’t enough. She needed to come up with a plan to cheer Anetra up, and fast.

So…
The dynamics of ships… why is Elriel a good fit for the ACOTAR series? Why is it just as intriguing and beautiful as Feysand or Nessian? I’ve written hours and hours of Elriel fan fiction, exploring dynamics and tropes, and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of their potential.
It’s established that our High Lady is a fighter. Feyre can physically fight for herself. She beat the Weaver which showed her mate that she was worth of the engagement ring and fought the Wyrm while her mate watched. She defended the Rainbow. She even won the war with Hybern through fighting. There are countless times where Rhys has sat back and let his girl go out swinging.
Then we have Nesta. Nesta is feisty and learns to fight for herself. She wields the mask, becomes a Valkyrie, and even goes through the Blood Rite. Cassian didn’t swoop in and save her… he let her fight.
Now Elain. Our girl needed rescuing. She did not fight her way out of the Hybern camp through cunning and brute strength. Azriel swooped in and saved her. And you best believe if she had been plunked into the Rite, Azriel would have come and saved her immediately. She is never incited on physical fighting missions like the Battle of Adriata and the closest she has gotten to blood was stepping out of shadow to stab the King of Hybern.
Now.
Does that make you uncomfortable? Does Elain needing help make you think less of her? Is she weak because she’s not like her sisters? Is that why everyone is wanting another story with a Valkyrie falling in love with a bat boy?? Because our other heroine is too weak and needs to be shipped off to a controlling high lord in spring ??????
This is what frustrates me.
Physical protection and physical fighting is not the only way to show strength.
Nesta was WRECKED after the Cauldron. She was self-destructive and cruel. Elain seemed to struggle but eventually healed through her hobbies and natural processing of everything. Even the loss of her fiancé, she recovered from. She is mentally strong.
Feyre too, has had moments of weakness. She could have physically run out of that wedding, but her mental bondage kept her walking down the aisle. Rhys had to intervene and save her in her moment of desperation. Elain could be walking down an aisle to Lucien right now, but she’s not. She’s choosing her own path and showing mental strength.
The fact that Azriel has rescued Elain physically and the fact that she cannot fight does not make her a less powerful or valuable female. Measuring women by their ability to perform historically-masculine acts is misogyny. She does not need to conform to the masculine power standard of 90’s feminism to be worthy of her own bat boy.
The beautiful thing about Elriel is that they have both been cast aside, despite being loyal to their core, Azriel to Mor for centuries and Elain to a gross human loser who broke her heart. They love even when it hurts. Even when it’s not reciprocated.
This dynamic feeds into their bond beautifully because in each other, they find what they’ve always needed—someone who wants them and sees them and chooses them above everything else.
Azriel will always physically protect Elain and champion her mental and emotional needs, but I believe Elain has the power to save Azriel too; to open up a side of life for him where he is desired and love— where he is protected and listened to and nurtured. A place where someone chooses him above everything else.
This is why Elriel is just as beautiful as Feysand or Nessian. It’s not unequal and Azriel doesn’t need a Valkyrie to “match his strength.” Elain is already strong.

OKAY SO
Korekiyo's whole deal is being obsessed with the beauty of humanity, right? Studying how different people behave under different circumstances, sort of observing from the outside. Despite the love xe feels for humanity, there's this sort of alienation. Xe ends up watching everyone else from the edge of the room during class events, xyr this kind of tall, dark, unnerving presence with greasy hair and a mostly obscured face and unconventional interests. In a lot of xyr interactions with the rest of the V3 cast, xyr classmates seem really uncomfortable or even actively distrusting of xem.
And Kiibo's matches up really well with Korekiyo's, their through line is how disconnected they feel from humanity despite being like. The ultimate reflection of everything humankind is. Kibo aspires to be more human, and feels outright offended when their classmates insinuate that they're less than human, or that their life doesn't have the same value as any other person's. They feel like they need to be useful or provide something of value to their friends in order to deserve a place in their circle
(side note I am Not going to use he/him for either of these characters ever. transfem Kiibo + nonbinary Korekiyo supremacy. these are mostly the versions of them i’ve made up in my head anyways so who cares that's all shipping is anyways)
Korekiyo would be the perfect person to affirm Kiibo's value as a person and humanity imo, while Kiibo is a good in-point for Korekiyo to start socializing with more of their friends. I won't take this as an opportunity to shill for my Korekiibo fanfiction, but I have a whole speech from Kiyo written out talking about how Kiibo is the culmination of humanity's desire to share the experience of sentience etc etc
Robotlover Korekiyo Shinguji, you can pry this headcanon from my cold dead hands. What's more human than something created by humanity the way they were created in the image of 'god'? etc
It's really cute!! Korekiyo Does Not Shut Up but thankfully Kiibo loves listening, and there's a lot of substance in what xe says. Even if it rambles for an hour on end, there's information to be gained there, and that applies especially to Kiibo. I think xe would be really interested in the ways Kiibo tries to be more than just the ‘Ultimate Robot’, how they strive to be as close to humankind as they can despite being a robot.
I think Kiibo and Korekiyo would find comfort in each other's shared distance from their peers, too. Korekiyo clearly has a very non-traditional or even distorted view of intimacy and relationships, and likely an extreme discomfort with feeling like xyr out of control. Xe likes to be the person who has information and knowledge to give in xyr relationships, kind of taking up the role of teacher in most conversations in canon.
Kiibo is sort of new to the whole idea of interpersonal relationships, but still goes out of their way to seek out that king of intimacy, as shown in their free time and love suite events. They seem like the type to be eager to learn, which fits perfectly with Korekiyo's affinity for teaching. I can imagine them cuddling while Korekiyo infodumps for hours on end about the entire history of fortune telling or something lol
And now: Things I Just Think Are Really Cute About Their Dynamic
- Consider that Kiibo could probably pick up Kiyo and have xem perched on their shoulder like a weird bird if their strength limiters were turned off. That beast probably weighs about as much of a stack of paper cups wearing a military uniform, xe’ll blow away like a napkin if you roll down the windows of a car on the highway
- Korekiyo is Wife Guy: Evil Edition in my mind. Xyr the type to send xyr partner flowers and the first unlucky person to upset that partner a pipe bomb. Kiibo finds this very reassuring but is working on helping xem find ways of expressing affection that aren’t also felonies
- Korekiyo says things like ‘I think if I were to eat you you would taste like strawberry shortcake’ and Kiibo is just. Okay ❤️ Yay ❤️ All of xyr compliments are incredibly unnerving but Kiibo finds them endearing anyways
- The visual contrast between the two is just. Augh. Tall and flowy and gorgeous and a little terrifying and 5’3 robot with spiky white hair and chunky armour and shounen protagonist demeanour. They are so Connecticut Clark and Malfina to me
- Korekiyo is a BDSM aficionado and Kiibo does not know what sex is
- THIS IMAGE. KIIBO IS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE GAME THAT KOREKIYO CALLS ‘MY DEAR’. I AM INSANE ABOUT THIS

Another amazing character study video from you yet again. Okay, before I go into my commentary, I would just like to say that I love Gabrielle Aplin. I’ve been obsessed with her debut album ‘English Rain’ for like… ever.
Buffy and Willow are a dynamic that is so interesting because there’s such rich history there and therefore lots to talk about with them. I do feel like their showdown in ‘Two To Go’ had been a long time coming in the show given how much jealousy, resentment and ignorance Willow had towards Buffy. And we learned in ‘Restless’ that she feared Buffy just being Buffy would expose her for the fraud she believes she is. Her being the one in her nightmare to rip the cool identity off to reveal the nerdy identity underneath. In a way Willow always believed Buffy to be her downfall just because she couldn’t match up to her. Just because Buffy was somebody and she wasn’t. I’ve written in my BUFFY REWATCH recap for the episodes ‘Welcome To The Hellmouth’/‘The Harvest’ about how that very first one-on-one interaction and conversation they had in the first episode told us so much about Willow and her problematic relationship with the theme of consent. Why she ignores, disregards and even takes it away. What the root cause for her doing that is. It has a lot to do with not being asked for it herself. How the people around her just expect her to do things just because she can. Just because she makes herself available to them. And honestly Buffy is the worst for it. But it’s specifically because it’s Buffy why it’s even more bothersome for her because who would she be without Buffy? Who is she without Buffy in general? Willow is someone that places her worth and value so much in the people around her that she doesn’t really know how to function as an individual person otherwise. Which is extremely sad but it’s honestly one of the most fascinating things about her character. That she’s only ever playing a role and assuming an identity that’s not authentic to who she really is or how she feels in the moment. And you never really get to see the ‘true’ Willow because of this. Because she’s the inner circle surrounding Buffy along with Xander and Giles, everything she does or says is performative as to prove herself to them. And with Buffy especially she’s always looking for ways to be useful or valuable to her and that’s partially why she gets into magic and becomes dependent on it. Because she knows Buffy needs it and she wants to be the one that provides it because that makes her feel special.
So by the time all of what goes down in Season 6 happens - this revealing of who she truly is and how she truly feels… it feels like tremendous payoff because we were waiting for something we didn’t even know we were waiting for. Didn’t even know we wanted. And the feeling that it’s been overdue for a long fucking time because this has always been Willow’s perception of Buffy and her relationship with and to her.
Which is just another reason why I think Season 7 is the worst season. Because they don’t properly reconcile with each other over it and reconnect as best friends. They don’t talk about what went down between them. The fact they used violence on each other, the fact Willow really felt this way. It’s so inorganic and unnatural how they interact in Season 7 it’s almost disorienting. It doesn’t feel right at all. But then there’s a lot that doesn’t for me when it comes to Season 7. ☹️
FAITH VICTORIA: “I just started listening to Gabrielle Aplin and I'm really loving her songs.
Willow and Buffy in season 7 peaked in same time same place, with Buffy admitting she thought Willow was still murdering people, and giving away some strength. But then it was rarely ever addressed again. They go back to interacting as friends, which is nice but ignores the massive climactic showdown they had last season. Maybe if they had made meditation more of a regular thing they both do in order to regain balance within themselves, Willow with magic and Buffy with slayer powers, they could have continued to bond and talk about their resentment and problems in a healthy manner without interrupting the plot much. I would have been really interested to see Buffys reaction to finding out Willow wanted to turn Dawn back into the key, and Willow's response. And maybe them comparing retroactively how they both view their friendship. I mean Buffy always thought of Willow with affection, so I imagine it would be quite confusing for her to hear that Willow always thought she had something to fake.”
It wasn’t enough. I mean none of the core Scooby interactions are enough in Season 7 but they especially seem so bloody distant. And I would understand that if it was about being hesitant to pick and clean up the debree from the explosion that was their relationship in Season 6…. But it’s not. It’s just because the writers don’t want to bother with it. So them being completely okay again for the final season just like that feels extremely unearned and therefore off. They don’t sit with the emotional beats enough to make them feel satisfactory. ‘Same Time, Same Place’ should have been just the start. Instead it was really all that we got for it.

real talk sending asks on anon is so hard. you lose track of what you sent so easily. i almost wish this was a main blog just so i could say hey without inserting my full url at the end like a dork
anyways.
this fic was such a Project with a capital P that there were so many scenes and little bits i thought of writing, but eventually scrapped for brevity even though we all know that’s not my strong suit. here’s a list of some of my notes under the read more because of spoilers, most of them are more recent because they’re fresher in my memory lol.
for clarity’s sake here’s how i hc it when i write about these characters being vtubers: the models on screen are a more polished or stylized lookalike of the person behind the screen, but without some of the details of the real person. so basically while vtuber!ike looks like how we all know him, the ike you interact with during the off-collab also has blue-tipped hair and gold earrings that match his glasses chain, but doesn’t wear the same thing daily, shows a full range of emotion, and has, ya kno, pores and freckles and all that instead of anime skin. they’re identical but in different art styles lol. (obligatory disclaimer that i’ve always written for the characters and not the real people working for nijisanji, and that we do not encourage unhealthy parasocial relationships here)
i wanted to hone in on the friends-to-lovers dynamic as much as possible by establishing friend moments before the actual meat of the romance during the off-collab. same with establishing pen and paper as a common in-universe ship. i’m a believer that including these scenes only strengthens the dynamic between mc and li, even if they aren’t necessarily about them interacting!
in the same way i wanted to establish the comfort of being in love with your best friend just as much as the worry. the outlast scene is really tense but i wanted to write it so the dialogue there could apply to anyone comparing themselves to others. same with the last two scenes. one of the elements i love most in hurt/comfort is that they can be like little affirmations even when the reader is completely different from the insert. reader and ike have a million different insecurities about themselves but they rarely see what the other is so worried about because it’s just another part to love. and when they do see it, they’re still there for each other even if it’s as simple as a weird photo or as big as pining
while we’re at it SHOUT OUT TO AIA, MIKA AND ALBAN FOR BEING THE REALEST MFS EVER i loved writing those three interacting with reader. they’re so funny sometimes. and when they’re not, they also serve as great sober advice. they all have different ways of getting you there—aia is the “soft” one but encourages you to get out of your comfort zone when she sees an easy way in and out, alban is the one that tells it to you straight and gives godly advice because of it, and because she’s close with both you and ike, mika does a lot of work behind the scenes encouraging you both. but at the end of the day no matter what your love life looks like, those three are there asap if you need them, regardless if they’re online or in-person
in the meanwhile vox, nina, and mika serve as ike’s close circle of friends and i think that’s beautiful lmao. i didn’t make those four’s relationship that explicit but i like to think of it as a family dynamic of sorts. vox and nina are the patient parent figures while mika is a younger sister type, and all of them also hype ike up like how aia, mika and alban hype you up
and speaking of vox i wanted to include him referring to ike as his work husband, and maybe a more serious one-on-one advice/shovel talk with reader about ike. this was one of those things that was tricky to place in the order of scenes, so it was eventually scrapped
honestly i think this fic is more about the power of friendship than the power of love lmao. it’s a love letter to friends that would drop everything for you regardless if they see you romantically or not, just as well to friends that want you to get every bit of happiness you deserve
you can probably tell how much of this fic is ruled by close friendships down to the kiss scene. reader is pretty clumsy with their feelings, and ike is even worse (though reader never notices because they’re so worried about themselves). i have this hc that for his first kisses, ike would always ask before he goes in, but if it weren’t for that this would’ve been one of those mutual go-for-it wordless kisses, you know what i mean? where everything feels right and even righter when you realize the other person is also leaning in
ESPECIALLY WHEN READER BUMPS IKE’S GLASSESSSSSSSS one of my favorite things in fic is when it’s not always picture perfect and people mess up! and then roll with it! things happen irl including being clumsy but those things tend to be the parts that make things special. i said what i said about reader and ike always being there for each other even when they’re insecure and i meant it. especially because the happiness is so contagious that reader smiles before kissing back and how they both take a laugh break before kissing even more
ren’s ukulele is also a personal touch. it’s not a very grand feeling to just zone out with your friends while one of them plays music, but it is one that i hope everyone experiences once. it really is comfortable, and if you have a friend that’s a bit of a smartass like ren? it gets funny too
when this fic was in development around early april if i remember correctly, ren did a karaoke stream with iris, which was the moment i realized that was the perfect song to describe the fic. i mention a bunch of other songs but iris is the “theme song”. it’s romantic and pretty and intimate, but with an ukulele and nina casually singing along, it fits the comfortable vibe well
wannabe by the spice girls was chosen for the recognizable goofy factor alone. i mentioned motionless in white, my first story and spiritbox mostly because i’ve heard ike mention them before on stream, but spiritbox gets a special shoutout here because i’m pretty sure they’re one of the only ike band recommendations i actually like (talluh too if you include the two songs i’ve listened to). toxicity gets mentioned because, uh… i was watching gavis bettel’s birthday karaoke when that happened and he was too blasted to do system of a down but that just stuck with me. i also have to admit i never actually listened to the emo holy trinity and only knew one mcr song from guitar hero but luckily it’s recognizable and it’s in a wide enough range that i think most people could sing it. ahhh i wish writing lyrics in fic wasn’t so clunky! i have such a picture in my mind of how reader and ike would sing the breakdown and onward
vox singing george strait is pure self-indulgence and i am begging us all to imagine handsome from the cowboy asmr singing christmas cookies. i have been thinking about this since october 2022
the final bonus scene is a neat bow to explain the important parts of the off-collab as well as ike’s real feelings. after all, the fic was written with limited pov and one of the major sources of tension is that ike’s feelings aren’t explicitly stated until the second confession (and the high-stress q&a stream). i wanted it to be so reflective and fond that it feels like a victory lap, and reaffirm what reader and ike’s relationship actually means to him even though he struggles with articulating it out loud
that final scene also had the most ideas that ended up scrapped. this includes but is not limited to: ike telling chat about the cafe with reader but without admitting it was a date, alban teasing ike in the chat, reader teasing ike in the chat, confirming that uki and ren going cafe-hopping was actually so they could playfully gossip about the sexual tension in this airbnb, actual descriptions of the photos reader took, confirming that ike or reader stole the other’s shirt (ike is a smaller guy so i wanted to keep it ambiguous for any reader body types), redirecting to reader’s stream, ike and alban actually talking about why alban knows so much (and him giving ike a shovel talk), and maybe most tragic of all; a forum-style text post scene where the delulu fans get it right for once and guess that reader and ike are in a secret relationship
i might write the delulu fan forum fic one day for fun but if i do then i’m going to call this little series “the pliskinverse” unironically and im that is not a fate i want to impose upon anyone
the word ~ verisimilitude ~ recently entered my vocabulary from a review of the candle cove creepypasta. it basically means when fiction seems authentic, like how a kind character would have polite manners or how an evil villain would laugh completely different than the hero. you could say an ooc fanfic would lack verisimilitude for example. anyways i bring this up because that creepypasta is formatted like a forum thread with distinct personalities between the posters... just like how i wanted the chatters to come across! i don't think it's subtle but i did write them all with different personalities and interests in mind. maybe for fun you can look through them and figure out what team they all play for, even though i'm awful at coming up with fake usernames

i think the reason people are so attached to tip is because it doesn’t feel weird or fetishized. i feel like a lot of fanfic content on tumblr is written to be innocent reader x non-innocent man with a corruption kink, which isn’t inherently bad but it gives off SUCH creepy vibes sometimes. i think it’s so refreshing to read something like tip where the reader isn’t made to look stupid constantly. on the other hand i think ur doing an amazing job with professor bradley and portraying those characters and that trope in a way that feels sexy but still mature and real. bradley isn’t taking advantage of reader, and it’s her choice to do the things she does.
sorry for ranting!!! please take this as a compliment lol.
As much as I do enjoy the ‘show me the way’ kind of trope in fics, and I’ve done it plenty of times, I really fucking love seeing readers hold their own and really give these men a run for their money
Like in Power and Control, the reader is definitely Jake’s match in a lot of ways. They’re very very similar and I think the dynamic of them testing those limits is so fun

OK. Here’s the thing:
I know some of us are eagerly looking forward to the 100mph head-on trainwreck collision that Vegaspete is shaping up to be in Kinnporsche. I also know there are people who are dithering in the tags about the extremely problematic aspects of the relationship in the novel and how the show might handle it vs. the novel. ALSO, it appears, based on what I’ve heard about the novel (because I’ve not got access to an English translation, I guess if anyone can point me to one, that’d be great, although I expect to continue to approach the show, by and large, as its own distinctive entity), that they’ve ... I hate to say de-fanged ... how about softened the show’s approach to Kinnporsche, themselves. (Although I’m just going to point out that, in MY jurisdiction, legally, someone who’s drugged out of their mind isn’t considered capable of giving consent, so. There’s that.)
ANYWAY. In Ep 4, Vegas tells drugged, bound Porsche not to worry, that he’s not going to hurt him, which is, frankly, typical rapist language that could be written off. He also tells him that “a guy like me doesn’t want to force anyone,” which ... is potentially kind of interesting, in the context of the show. Is this true? Is this BS that Vegas tells himself? (This relates to Vegaspete, I promise - I’m getting there.) Vegas tells Porsche he just wants to “put a stamp on him” - to mark him? - to rile up Kinn. What exactly does that mean? Because that’s not something that necessarily requires actual sex to do, only something that will send Kinn’s head in that direction. He tells Porsche not to worry, he’ll be gentle, and at that point, Porsche head-butts him, which - don’t get me wrong, Vegas absolutely deserves that and more, BUT  - seems to mark a change in the way Vegas is dealing with Porsche, specifically seems to ramp him up. He says, “so this is how you like it.” He give a little laugh, and also draws in a little breath, almost like a gasp. And that’s when he rolls Porsche over (although he still makes no move to remove any clothes, although he doesn’t have a lot of time to go that direction before his goons come in to warn him that Kinn is hot on Porsche’s trail).
Later we get a scene of Vegas all freaky-deaky in his red-lit room, naked, having a post-O cigarette and caressing his own lips like he’s turned on as he flashes back, specifically, to the head-butt.
Separately, there’s also a clip floating around somewhere from a trailer a year ago that I don’t know will make it into the final version of the show, of Vegas standing on a balcony with Porsche, presumably bagging on Kinn, telling Porsche that he wouldn’t hurt someone he loves “that” way - which, given the Kinn/Porsche dynamic we’ve seen so far, is likely to mean by being withholding.
This is even more tenuous, but I feel like I’ve also seen a BTS clip from a shoot-out scene of what looks like Pete scrambling under a table to haul someone protectively into his lap to shield them from whatever’s going on, and don’t think that didn’t make me catch my breath at the possibilities (although this may turn out to be completely wrong-footed, because I can’t tell who the other person is supposed to be, and I can’t even 100% guarantee that it’s Build in that scene).
So. What does this all have to do with Vegaspete? Well, I think we’re establishing that Vegas is turned on by power dynamics and pain, I think we’re establishing that he’s fascinated by a partner who’s a match for him. I think we have the potential for him to actually forge an emotional connection, and I have to wonder if that’s not something he’s hungry for, even if he doesn’t yet recognize it, himself. I also have to wonder if we’re not de-fanging him a little bit from the novel - I have to wonder how much that goes to his statement that he doesn’t want to force anyone and what kind of buy-in we’re supposed to have about that, and how much that might be about a desire to have someone choose him and choose to be with him.
Anyway, what I’m getting at: This ... gives me some ideas about how I would thread the needle if I was trying to maintain all the possibilities we see in the “i will consume you” Vegaspete trailer while still maintaining this as a viable pairing that’s not going to turn too many people off. Here’s what I’d do, if I was going to re-write this relationship from the novel version:
Pete goes to find whatever he goes to find in Vegas’s computer files. Either he finds it or he doesn’t, that’s not the important part. The important part is that he gets caught at it. And then, Vegas offers him a deal: Pete can have the thing he was looking for, can walk out of Vegas’s sanctum sanctorum with a successful mission under his belt - IF he can endure Vegas’s attentions. And Pete says “yes.” Gives us that scenario where Vegas isn’t precisely forcing him. That scenario that doesn’t exist in real life but sits in that fanfic limbo of ”dubcon” as distinct from “noncon.” Then, cue all of the BDSM - heavy on the SM - that we’ve been given tantalizing glimpses of, with an increasing intimacy between them as Vegas keeps pushing and pushing and pushing ... and then, Vegas blinks. Starts to wonder if he’s forcing Pete into this. If Pete would do this with no exchange on the line. Tells him, fine. Take that thing you were looking for and go. You’re free to do that. And Pete does.
And then. Pete comes back.
(If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you ...)
(When is a monster not a monster ...)
And that is how I’d thread that needle, based on what they’ve already given us.

IndieWire: Yup, Rachel Brosnahan’s Favorite ‘Maisel’ S4 Scene Involved Luke Kirby and That Very Blue Room
[...] Brosnahan’s other favorite appears in the season finale, when Midge and Lenny Bruce, seeking refuge from a blizzard, finally “do the deed.” The actors are professionals, but the scene broke new ground for their characters’ relationship and made it difficult to stay serious.
“We’ve been working together for so many years and it was brand new territory for Midge and Lenny and therefore for us,” Brosnahan said. “But it also felt like it paralleled what was on the page in such as fun and funny way. He says to her ‘I’ll be laughing the entire time,’ and that’s exactly what we did.”

Let’s talk about Midge and Lenny.
It’s one of the relationships that has evolved the most and they have met their match in each other. They are mentor and mentee and intimate friends and have this sparkle and this chemistry that you can’t wrap up into a singularly defined relationship.
Even though this is a very sexy scene and something that has been building for a long time, the piece I loved the most about it is that it is the moment where he acknowledges that she’s a brilliant comic and that he respects her, because he feeds one of her own lines back to her from a set that came from a really emotional place. In a season where she was trying to figure out what kind of comic she wanted to be and what feels really and truly her, from the gut, he listened. And then they got to bone. Many, many wishes came true in that moment for the characters.
What was it like to read that scene?
It was something that I was really resistant to for a long time — the idea of them getting together romantically or sexually — because I just loved their relationship so much, and I felt very strongly about the idea that it could stand alone and didn’t need to cross that line to be fulfilling. However, I changed my mind in that moment. I knew it was coming — Amy let me know because she had for many years told me it would never happen, so she pulled me aside to let me know that she lied — but once I actually saw it on the page I completely changed my mind. I can’t imagine a more perfectly-written scene to culminate in them finally getting together, so I ate my shorts. It’s a real testament to what a brilliant writer Amy is.
Compared to you and Alex, you and Luke have fewer scenes together but the chemistry is insane. Even in previous seasons, did you ever think “We just need these characters together as often as possible?”
Oh, yes, absolutely. I love working with Luke. He’s a really singular performer. He’s electric and strange and such a generous scene partner. His well is so deep. I always want more Luke on the show, and therefore more Lenny and Midge. He’s one of the only actors who is allowed to come in and change the metronome of the show, change the pace, change the tempo. As someone who’s there operating at a certain pace most of the time, it always feels like a breath of fresh air to try something else and explore a different part of this character that I’ve lived in for so long.
How did you go about approaching that scene to nail the dynamic and the pacing?
We’re good friends, and we were like, “Oh god, how do we do this?” There were many, many, many giggles; it was so awkward and so fun and so goofy. There’s nothing more awkward than pretending to have sex with someone in front of 150 people, but you figure out the moves and you pray that it looks [natural.]

Has that happened to you before as an actor, with intimate scenes?
It’s always ridiculous. It’s always the goofiest thing to do. I’ve been very fortunate that to have not had any uncomfortable feelings in that environment, and that is such a privilege as a young actress growing up in this industry. But they’re all totally different and it is so dependent on who you’re doing those scenes with. We had a blast — we always do — and this was no different, just new for us.
I love that you’re giggling at just the memory.
Oh, my God. I think Luke planked over me at one point, and that really sent us.
This scene does have a lot of coverage, as opposed to the one-shot with Susie. What was it like in contrast?
We don’t always get the opportunity to do that, so it always feels like a luxury to have the time to really dig into something, to really beat-by-beat and moment-by-moment make sure that we’re getting exactly what we want. We really took our time with that moment because it is so [pivotal]. It launches out of this season and into the next.
How did you react to watching it afterward?
I actually don’t watch my own work unless I have to in ADR or unless it’s something I’m producing, so I have no idea what it looks like! But the response has been positive, so it seems like we were able to accomplish our goal.
How do you feel on this side of it, now that you’ve come around to them having that relationship?
It was such a perfect scene that it felt like the only way that could have ever gone. I learned a long time ago to stop predicting what was going to happen next, because I’ve never been right and it’s always been better than what I could have hoped for, and I certainly feel that way about this scene. We’re a little over halfway through this fifth and final season, and I have no idea where it’s ultimately headed.
Looking forward, what can we expect of this relationship now that they have crossed that line?
I think as always with this show and with them, you can expect the unexpected. I think people will be surprised — hopefully in a good way. That’s very vague but about as much as I can without getting fired with only a couple months to go. [x]

Okay so I’m back, what is a way I could do this I’ve never really written cabinetduo much but I really like their dynamic, I want to stay away from weird things. How do u write yours? I’ve seen a few different take from other authors before but I don’t want to make it overly confusing
i’m a little sleepy so this answer might not be the best. first off: i am not the headcanon police, nor am i the boss of every cabinetduo enjoyer ever. you can write whatever take you like. “weird things” is a hugely subjective term, too, so i have a hard time parsing what exactly it means.
that being said! i write cabinetduo a lot of ways. i have written them a lot. you can scroll my ao3 if you’re not familiar, but basically everything from stepbrothers (devil town) to shared trauma found family (footnotes) to a gas station employee and the kid who drove him to the emergency room (bigfoot au). that’s the beauty of fanfic - there’s no one “right way” to interpret the characters. mix and match your favorite elements from canon with new things. reinterpret stuff in whatever setting you want. go wild.
( kinda off topic but this has made me realize that i actually only have one fic where cabinetduo are the focus and also fully brothers, and it’s unposted. in that au, schlatt and quackity are married, which does technically make schlatt tubbo’s brother in law. now there’s a dynamic nobody talks about. )

4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
Most words that cannot be spelled phonetically. Cathedral is a huge one. I cannot pronounce it correctly and doubt I ever will lmao.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, as well as Dark Delicacies III: Haunted. Ironic considering the titles, but yeah. These aren’t my favorite books by any margin, but they’ve stuck with me over the years. Because of their messages, or simple nostalgia. Besides, who doesn’t love a good harmless scare every now and then? My own writing doesn’t really haunt me, unless it’s an unfinished fic I’ve lost passion for. It could be because of personal experience, certain engagement or lack thereof, or because another story is shouting at me louder than it is.
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
Ohhh, I do. Sometimes post it notes if they’re nearby. I dog ear paper backs, not hardcovers. I was always taught hard covers were ‘worth more’ and while that’s a weird sentiment to impress upon a kid, it’s stuck with me. I used to read in the bath tub when I had one XD it was a huge soaking tub with a big tile section behind the tub for stacks of books and my stereo.
Nah, I don’t judge. If it’s your book, who cares? I’m usually just grateful to meet fellow bookwyrms~ My copy of the Spearwielder Trilogy by RA Salvatore is so worn and hammered both back and front covers have had to be taped back on, it’s missing one page entirely but I’ve read it so much I know what happens.
One odd thing I do is that I ‘rub’ the left side of the page with my right thumb. I roll the middle of the page while reading, which means many of my older books have odd wrinkles or worn sections in them. Some paper takes it easier than others, thankfully I read fast so I don’t wear out the pages except by multiple read throughs.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
OOF this is a hard one. I think my tops would be The Projectionist/Norm, although tbh Mike, Bonnie and Cade Yeager are close behind him.
We don't see a ton of Norm except for his audio tape, and ofc his level in the game. He's fun to write because he doesn't talk and while he's def got the potential to be as fierce and feral as Bendy, he's also more mature and able to help Henry in the MB series. I also just...love his design sm.
Mike is an easy answer--he had nothing but his name and eye color back when I wrote LB. It was fun building him from the ground up for the KGA.
Bonnie is my favorite animatronic, I love all the Bonnies actually. Mostly because his personality is based off my bratty little wabbit Hiccup who was with me through a lot. I miss him, but writing Bon helps me a lot.
Cade's just fun because we finally had a competent human in the bayverse. I liked Sam and Mikela but they were kids--Cade was a new dynamic esp bc he bonded to Optimus Prime, instead of how they typically matched Bee with a pet whooman. I also love smart characters that are also stupid. See, Mike Schmidt. Bless their hearts.
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
The ‘first draft is the worst’ rule. Most of my chapters are written in one go, with little variations. At most I nudge entire scenes to later chapters. I write until I hit a word count near 10k, then drop it for a day, then read through it once or twice for spelling errors, then done. Reworking is how I stall out on so many projects. It’s also why I don’t plan writing in advance either.

How to use: Put the subtitle file in the same folder as your video file and rename it to match the video’s file name (e.g. if the video is named “ST_01.mkv”, name the corresponding subtitle file “ST_01.ass”). Episodes 31-38 make up the biggest set of filler episodes to be sandwiched in between manga-adapted ones, which means there’s a pretty big difference between the manga and the anime’s ways of handling continuity at this point of the story. The events of chapters 20-21 were obviously written to be direct follow-ups to what had happened in chapters 17-19, so it was easy for me to approach the translation knowing exactly what concepts were being alluded to in each line, but the anime’s approach isn’t as clear-cut.
Of course, it’s still overall the same plot making the same points, but these 8 filler episodes serve as an extended period of time where our five main characters (Meimi, Seira, Asuka Jr., Rina, and Sawatari) and their dynamics are in an “in-between” state that the manga’s story had progressed too quickly to depict in detail. One of the reasons I decided to translate the manga-adapted episodes first before going back to the filler episodes was that it was helpful to have the manga plot points as “landmarks”, since I could approach each filler episode thinking about what plot points it’s meant to follow up on and what it’s supposed to be leading up to.
I think it’s tempting to be fooled by the seemingly episodic nature of the anime fillers and assume that the series doesn’t have much continuity, but even if the heists aren’t strictly related to each other in terms of plot events, each episode has a clear theme in terms of how it advances Meimi and Asuka Jr.’s character stories. It’s actually fairly easy to figure out what each episode’s purpose is once you have the full picture of the entire plot and know what everything is going to lead up to. But it does mean that my translation process for this series involves a rather abnormal amount of note-taking to make sure I don’t miss any small details…
I’m not saying this to brag or complain about how much work this series has been to work on (on the contrary, it’s been very rewarding), but I do hope people watching the anime with this translation can look out for those details and get as much as they can out of the story and characters. I think the best possible result for me that would make this entire project feel worthwhile would be if it succeeds in bringing out the little things that help people connect to or resonate with it. And I’m sure there must be many wonderful things about this series and about Meimi and Asuka Jr. that even I haven’t noticed yet, so I hope I’ve preserved enough details to give readers/viewers things to work with in forming their own insights.

I know this is like taking a bat to the beehive but... I really wanna hear your opinions on the whole... Imprinting thing
(Note before we go any further: this meta is written purely about the shapeshifting aspect of the Quileute characters, I don’t at all get into the racism in Twilight or any kind of social commentary. This is a purely watsonian meta. Others in this fandom have already addressed the racial dynamics at play, far more eloquently and knowledgeably than me. If I say something in here that’s in any way offensive, that’s not my intention and I’m open to criticism.)
Ooh imprinting.
I touch upon it here, basically I hate it.
The imprinting is part of this theme where the shapeshifters lose their free will and autonomy, and I find it tragic, cruel, and unnecessary.
First of, the fact that they have to phase at all.
They’re made warriors to protect their tribe. There’s no choice involved, only genetics and magic irrevocably changing their lives, and at a ridiculously young age, too. Sam is the oldest of them, and he is 19.
Violence is an inherent part of what they become. Their purpose is to protect the tribe, by fighting vampires. Not only is this insanely dangerous (we see Jake get so injured by a single vampire that he’s bedridden for weeks), but if they succeed, they will have killed. In the singularly brutal manner of tearing apart and burning someone who looks a lot like a human, who talks and might beg for their life, at that. And I remind you, most of these shapeshifters are literal children. They might not see vampires as people, but all the same, killing one can’t be good for their mental wellbeing. (Thought: Perhaps an argument can be made for Laurent’s death having a part in the turn Jake’s personality took? Some, though not many, of the symptoms for PTSD do fit. I don’t know enough about PTSD to pursue this train of thought, but it occurred to me just now, in particular he becomes quite aggressive and prone to outbursts after that incident, so into a parenthesis it goes)
Not to mention how inhumane that responsibility is. Vampires in the Twilight-verse are terrifying, and the shapeshifters might have the power to fight them. But (and this is where I plug one of my all-time favorite animes, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as it asks the question “Is it okay to sacrifice yourself for others?” because that’s... well there’s a parallel to be made to the shapeshifters. It’s on Netflix!) does that mean they should? Is it really their responsibility? Again- they’re kids!
Then there’s the time Sam lost control, and accidentally mauled the girl he loved. And it’s so cruel to both him and Emily. Sam never chose to have to control himself in the first place, he never chose shapeshifting. He didn’t choose to imprint on Emily either, and he didn’t choose to lose control that day. At no point in the series of events that led to Emily being mauled did Sam have any real choice, and yet he will shoulder the guilt for what happened for the rest of his life.
These kids get superpowers, and several of them seem to enjoy being shapeshifters, but the fact remains that they now carry this huge responsibility to protect their families and homes, doing so is incredibly dangerous, they lose out on their regular lives, and they can’t opt out of it.
This all sucks, but then we get to the fact that they are deprived of their free will, as their alpha can issue an order they physically can’t break. The alpha becomes alpha because of bloodlines, not because of a democratic election. Jake got a mockery of a choice in that he could choose to become alpha himself, or let Sam continue, which was really just choosing between a rock and a hard place. There is no limitation to what this order can be, from “don’t say X to person Y” to “let’s kill someone you love”. Jake has to struggle to break that last one, and he’s only successful because of the bloodline thing letting him become his own alpha.
Oh, and there’s the massive invasion of privacy when they have a hive mind. Cool concept, less cool to have it be reality. Leah is the poster child for how a hive mind can backfire, and they can’t opt out of this.
I’m not good at gifs, but the shapeshifters just make me think of that gif of someone flicking a lightswitch on and off, “WELCOME TO HELL!”. Of course, Twilight in general is a pit of despair for everybody, so I suppose that gif really is... well it sums up all of canon.
So, we have these kids aged 19 or younger, as of Breaking Dawn they skew as young as thirteen, their lives are turned upside down by something they can’t opt out of, they must shoulder this huge responsibility to protect their homes and families from the terrifying threat of vampires, and on top of all of that, they must obey orders that are so irresistible, they can compel them to harm someone they care for.
With all of that in mind, you’d think that the shapeshifters had enough on their plate. That through all of this they would at least retain their selves, and be able to look forward to a future where they could stop phasing, and go on to live normal, human, lives.
Yeah, NOT IF THEY IMPRINT.
I’ll just quote Jake’s description:
Everything inside me came undone as I stared at the tiny porcelain face of the halfvampire, half-human baby. All the lines that held me to my life were sliced apart in swift cuts, like clipping the strings to a bunch of balloons. Everything that made me who I was—my love for the dead girl upstairs, my love for my father, my loyalty to my new pack, the love for my other brothers, my hatred for my enemies, my home, my name, my self—disconnected from me in that second—snip, snip, snip—and floated up into space. 
I was not left drifting. A new string held me where I was. 
Not one string, but a million. Not strings, but steel cables. A million steel cables all tying me to one thing—to the very center of the universe. 
I could see that now—how the universe swirled around this one point. I’d never seen the symmetry of the universe before, but now it was plain. 
The gravity of the earth no longer tied me to the place where I stood. (Breaking Dawn, page 237)
Everything that made me who I was disconnected from me.
Jake’s love for his father, his home, his very own self, it’s all gone now. And while I have thoughts on the authenticity of this imprint, whether it was organic, the description above is apparently how imprinting feels. It’s along the lines of what Sam, Jared, and Paul all describe.
I don’t think I can put into words just how devastating I find imprinting, I think the above quotation speaks for itself. And as with all other shapeshifter things, there is no choice involved.
We see its devastating effects in the Emily, Sam, and Leah debacle. Sam and Leah were serious together, so much so that they were engaged. Sam had fallen for and chosen to be with Leah. Perhaps they would have broken up eventually, but Leah was still the choice he made. Then he imprints on Emily, and all that is for naught. He had to break up with Leah, who if she hadn’t phased never would have learned why, Emily and Leah’s relationship is ruined, and Emily must forever live with the knowledge that if Sam had his free will intact he would be with another woman.
Then there’s Jared and Kim. Kim crushed on Jared, but Jared never noticed her. The fact that they were in the same class is damning: if a boy is attracted to a girl, he's gonna notice her. Jared never did.
Quil imprints on Claire, who is a toddler. That’s just a recipe for misery and disaster all around.
And I’ve only touched the shapeshifter side of things. They lose their autonomy and freedom, but the imprintées draw the short straw too. They’re now responsible for this other person’s happiness. Sure, having someone who’ll be whatever you need them to be sounds nice (well, it sounds horrifying, but I’m playing ball) on paper, but you can’t opt out of them being like that. The imprintée can’t say “Sorry, not interested,” and she certainly can’t shut the imprinter out of her life, not without irrevocably ruining the imprinter’s life. The imprinter needs her. She’s the center of his earth now, but she didn’t choose to be.
Imprinting is a liferuiner for everyone involved.
Then we have the question of what imprinting is even for. I’m afraid I agree with Billy, that it’s for procreation. We see Sam, who was dating a woman about to phase (even if Leah isn’t infertile, she’s a warrior now. She can’t run in the woods and fight vampires, and gestate and nurse a child at the same time) conveniently imprint on her cousin, who as cousin to Leah is from a shifter bloodline. Claire, as Emily’s cousin, has those same genetics. Paul imprints on a woman from the Black family line. Jake is the outlier, but either Renesmée’s gift helped that imprinting along, or he imprinted because of the offspring they could potentially have (I firmly believe it’s the former because the latter... NOPE. Also, I can’t imagine whatever magic drives imprinting would want vampiric progeny for the future generations. Regardless of Renesmée’s person, her biology is wired to desire human blood. That’s exactly what Jake is supposed to protect people from. Bad match.).
I just.... ughhh. God, I hate imprinting so much, and on every level.
To me, everything about the shapeshifters is about free will, autonomy, and the loss thereof. And it would have been beautiful if their story was about reclaiming that, but it isn’t. None of this, with the exception of the alpha orders, is even acknowledged.
So, in summation, yes I hate imprinting, but it’s only the horror cherry on top of a very sad and problematic cake.
